- 0:39SPEAKER_03: Welcome in, everybody, to the Talk and Tech Podcast.
- 0:42SPEAKER_03: My name is Steven Rodriguez, my co-host Tristan McGonagall.
- 0:45SPEAKER_03: Tristan, how are you doing today, man?
- 0:47SPEAKER_02: I could be doing better.
- 0:49SPEAKER_02: You know, I could be doing two and oh better, but instead I'm doing one and one better.
- 0:53SPEAKER_02: But hey, we take what we can get, right?
- 0:55SPEAKER_03: That's okay, man.
- 0:56SPEAKER_03: I'm happy with the one and one against UT and Baylor.
- 0:59SPEAKER_03: I'm very happy with it.
- 1:01SPEAKER_03: So yeah, man, we uh we did not play, did not play up to our personal standards against Baylor, but again, Baylor is a very, very, very good team.
- 1:13SPEAKER_03: They are a Final Four contender, a national championship contender.
- 1:17SPEAKER_03: They have, it seems like, you know, with their team, and we said this in the preview, but they just are they all this is the year they all came together.
- 1:24SPEAKER_03: Everybody stayed on the team.
- 1:26SPEAKER_03: They have a lot of seniors, they have a lot of returners, they have NBA caliber talent.
- 1:30SPEAKER_03: I mean, every team once in a while has these years where they just get everything coming together, and it looks like Baylor has just that.
- 1:37SPEAKER_02: Man, I hope you're completely wrong, but there's absolutely truth to everything you're saying.
- 1:43SPEAKER_02: Um, UT's also a very good team, too.
- 1:45SPEAKER_02: So I thought that there was a good chance we can get them.
- 1:47SPEAKER_02: And you know what?
- 1:48SPEAKER_02: It's not like it was a blowout or anything.
- 1:49SPEAKER_02: It was a close game for the vast majority of it, and it ended close, it was single digits.
- 1:54SPEAKER_02: So um very proud of the way our guys played.
- 1:57SPEAKER_02: Uh I still think we have a lot of uh fight in us, and I think we could still, you know, the Big 12 trophy is kind of getting further away, but uh especially with the way Baylor is undefeated, and um Kansas is still pretty playing pretty well, except against Baylor.
- 2:11SPEAKER_02: So um it's it's that may be out of the zone.
- 2:14SPEAKER_02: Maybe we can go get a tournament trophy, but we still have a lot to look forward to for the rest of the season, as well as going into March.
- 2:20SPEAKER_03: Here's a stat for you that you never thought you would uh hear.
- 2:24SPEAKER_03: Texas Tech is one and three at home in Big 12 play.
- 2:30SPEAKER_02: What is Chris Beard the coach?
- 2:33SPEAKER_03: One and three at home, man.
- 2:35SPEAKER_03: And uh granted, two of those games, one was against Baylor, one was against Kansas.
- 2:39SPEAKER_03: We didn't have McCullough for that game, but we did blow the Oklahoma State game, and then we've only played Kansas State at home.
- 2:47SPEAKER_03: That was our only win in Big 12 play so far.
- 2:49SPEAKER_03: So uh the encouraging news is that we're undefeated Big 12 play on the road.
- 2:54SPEAKER_03: So just just a weird year, man.
- 2:57SPEAKER_02: We are Road Warriors, but I mean we're we're we're missing that crowd, man.
- 3:01SPEAKER_02: I think that's that definitely has a play in it.
- 3:04SPEAKER_02: Uh, we're really missing that wonderful crowd we developed.
- 3:07SPEAKER_02: So I think there's that that's definitely a part of the reason why we haven't been performing our best because Chris Beard really feeds off of that, more so than a lot of coaches out there.
- 3:16SPEAKER_02: So I I'm really hoping that next season this is gonna be behind us, but that's an interesting stat, man.
- 3:22SPEAKER_02: Uh it's an unfortunate stat because um home games are kind of the ones you're supposed to win, while road games are the ones you want to just nab where you can, you know, so in college basketball.
- 3:33SPEAKER_02: So a little disappointing, but you know, these we've we've hosted a lot of good teams.
- 3:37SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no doubt.
- 3:38SPEAKER_03: And we have a couple now that we have these cancellations with the TCU game that was supposed to partake today, and the Iowa State game on Saturday.
- 3:47SPEAKER_03: We have a couple road games up ahead that we're gonna get into more next week, but we're gonna start off on Monday with West Virginia and then we're going to LSU for the SEC Big 12 showdown.
- 3:58SPEAKER_03: I will be there.
- 3:59SPEAKER_03: Our boy Jackson from Ramblin' Raiders will be there.
- 4:02SPEAKER_03: By the way, shout out to him and uh his girlfriend and his buds that we met up there uh in Austin to watch the Baylor game.
- 4:07SPEAKER_03: We had a great time, uh, super cool group.
- 4:09SPEAKER_03: Uh, and you know, we got some stuff coming for you.
- 4:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we're gonna start uh we're looking forward to collabing with them.
- 4:14SPEAKER_02: I mean, what a great uh group of guys.
- 4:16SPEAKER_02: I had a blast.
- 4:17SPEAKER_02: Jackson's a really great guy.
- 4:19SPEAKER_02: Uh he was the one that set it up.
- 4:21SPEAKER_02: What a welcoming dude.
- 4:22SPEAKER_02: And we just drank some cold ones and uh cheered on our boys with some other Red Raiders in the bar.
- 4:26SPEAKER_02: So it was a lot of fun.
- 4:27SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no doubt.
- 4:28SPEAKER_03: And so, and because of that, we didn't really pay attention to the game as closely as we usually do.
- 4:32SPEAKER_03: I mean, we're having a great time and we're getting into it, obviously.
- 4:35SPEAKER_03: We weren't just not paying attention, but you know, so we can't really give you the the play-by-play stuff.
- 4:42SPEAKER_03: I wasn't doing the live tweeting like we usually do, but you know, I I from taken from the stats, 25% from three in that game, just not good.
- 4:51SPEAKER_03: I mean, that's not gonna cut it uh no matter who you're playing.
- 4:54SPEAKER_03: And that that's credit to Baylor's defense.
- 4:56SPEAKER_03: That's kind of you know, we we need to get better from outside.
- 5:00SPEAKER_03: Uh Terrence Shannon and Kyler Edwards both having off games.
- 5:03SPEAKER_03: Uh, you really I just can't wait to see one of these games where Kyler just goes nuts and plays good the whole game.
- 5:09SPEAKER_03: I've been waiting for that all year.
- 5:11SPEAKER_03: Uh has not happened really yet.
- 5:13SPEAKER_03: Um, but Mac had a big game and McCullough had a big game.
- 5:16SPEAKER_03: So there's some bright spots, there's some you know bad stuff that we need to fix, and uh, but but Baylor's just a tough team, man.
- 5:22SPEAKER_02: Yes, absolutely.
- 5:23SPEAKER_02: And surprise, surprise, often started out really slow.
- 5:26SPEAKER_02: The the first half was 26 to 18 in their favor.
- 5:30SPEAKER_02: That's crazy.
- 5:31SPEAKER_02: So, I mean, what a what a low-scoring game.
- 5:34SPEAKER_02: And Baylor's defense is raw.
- 5:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so I'm not saying that it's entirely on our offense, but I mean, you don't like seeing numbers like that in the in 20 minutes.
- 5:43SPEAKER_02: So it it didn't bode well before the second half, but then we got back in it, even tied the game.
- 5:49SPEAKER_02: Um, but it's unfortunately we just couldn't, you know, crunch it out.
- 5:53SPEAKER_02: Uh, they kept hitting they hit us hit some great shots and just kind of kept us out of it.
- 5:57SPEAKER_03: No doubt.
- 5:57SPEAKER_03: And we got to fix that, man.
- 5:59SPEAKER_03: We we uh these slow first halves are killing us.
- 6:02SPEAKER_03: I mean, with UT, with Baylor, with numerous other games this year, Houston, those type of those type of games.
- 6:08SPEAKER_03: We need to you know bite him in the butt early, man, get some good shots, and we just could not get that going.
- 6:13SPEAKER_03: Luckily, Chris Beard's such a great uh coach when it comes to halftime adjustments and doing that sort of deal.
- 6:19SPEAKER_03: So um, but but Mac was big and McCullough was big too.
- 6:22SPEAKER_03: Uh, you know, Marcus had a pretty decent game, so um just it just got to pick it up in certain areas.
- 6:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah, for sure.
- 6:28SPEAKER_02: I mean, whenever you're looking at the straight up stats between our two teams, you know, they they they outperformed us on the all on offense clearly.
- 6:34SPEAKER_02: Uh they were at what uh 42 from the field, we were at 35 uh from the field, and they were at 37 from three, we were at 25 from three.
- 6:43SPEAKER_02: So, I mean, those numbers don't bode well.
- 6:44SPEAKER_02: It's just once again, the offense is kind of coming back to us and just biting us to the butt.
- 6:48SPEAKER_02: Uh, but I will say one thing we we got them on free throws, but uh unfortunately it didn't uh sort of.
- 6:55SPEAKER_02: They they they got 13 free throws, but our percentage was a little better.
- 6:58SPEAKER_02: Um, but uh yeah, I guess that's kind of null.
- 7:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you just kind of you kind of give and take with free throws, you know, whatever.
- 7:05SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I I'm encouraged that we're shooting a little better from the line for sure.
- 7:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but I mean it's how it you're not gonna win from the line, so it's just uh it's just kind of there, they'll make you lose, but I don't know if it'll necessarily make you win.
- 7:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but uh obviously you you know more about that sort of part of the game than I do, but whenever you're just looking at straight three a field and threes, it it's not there, you know, in this game.
- 7:29SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no doubt.
- 7:30SPEAKER_03: We Baylor's great defense, and uh normally when you're holding a team to shooting you know 42 or whatever percent from the field and you know low 30s from three, that's an okay defensive outing.
- 7:41SPEAKER_03: But when we're shooting that, I mean shooting 35 total percent field goal percentage is is not good, not good at all for uh for our boys in the Scarlet and Black.
- 7:51SPEAKER_03: So um, like like we said, just a tough game.
- 7:53SPEAKER_03: We did move up in the rankings, though.
- 7:55SPEAKER_03: We moved up to 12 uh after we beat UT and uh well really split the split the series between UT and Baylor this uh this past week.
- 8:03SPEAKER_02: So and like we were saying, I I I I definitely appreciate the win being from UT.
- 8:08SPEAKER_03: Yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah, no doubt.
- 8:10SPEAKER_03: Rather be UT than Baylor.
- 8:12SPEAKER_03: And and Baylor just looks they just look OP, man.
- 8:14SPEAKER_03: I mean they really don't they haven't had and they just killed Kansas.
- 8:19SPEAKER_03: I mean they only won by eight them against Kansas, but they really beat Kansas like bad.
- 8:24SPEAKER_03: I mean, they they would have lost, they truly should have lost by 11, but that dude threw the threw in that uh half court shot there at the end, uh to make it eight, and that also threw off the line for you gamblers out there.
- 8:36SPEAKER_03: A lot of y'all were upset because I think it was I think the line was Baylor minus eight and a half, and he made that shot and pushed.
- 8:45SPEAKER_03: I wanna sorry, no, yeah, it was just a really screwy day for uh if you bet if you bet Kansas on that one.
- 8:53SPEAKER_03: So shout out to all the gamblers who lost on that last uh last second three-pointer.
- 8:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I bet Ramblin's uh gambling show, ladies locks is we're probably upset about that one.
- 9:03SPEAKER_02: Uh yeah, but yeah, yeah, no doubt.
- 9:05SPEAKER_02: But um again, hey, we we swe we we were we said we were gonna be happy if we went one and one in this series, so we that's what we did, and it's not like we got blown out by Blair by Baylor by any means.
- 9:17SPEAKER_02: So we we still have a lot to look forward to, and um I I the well the the worst part about all this is that we don't have any more games to look forward to for now, yeah.
- 9:26SPEAKER_02: We we got a long stretch of no games, yes.
- 9:31SPEAKER_03: Yeah, for sure.
- 9:31SPEAKER_03: And so and those games are just postponed for now, they're not canceled, so we're probably gonna have to go.
- 9:37SPEAKER_03: We're gonna play those games probably eventually.
- 9:39SPEAKER_03: I don't, I mean, unless the schedule just gets too out of hand, uh, and there's more and more cancellations.
- 9:45SPEAKER_03: But I got on the pod Twitter and kind of did a little breakdown of those types of things.
- 9:50SPEAKER_03: They had some key dates that came out uh here in the past couple days about when the NCA tournament is actually gonna start.
- 9:57SPEAKER_03: Um, and so like the last regular season game we're scheduled for right now is against UT on February 27th.
- 10:03SPEAKER_03: And then the Big 12 tournament is scheduled March 10th through the 13th, selection Sunday, March 14th, and then the NCA tournament starts on the 18th.
- 10:12SPEAKER_03: So I you know, with these type of things where we're gonna have to squeeze in some teams either before those dates or after the UT game on the 27th, we really only have a 10-day window there to schedule our postponed games, and now we have two of those.
- 10:29SPEAKER_03: So if we get three, four, I mean, Iowa State is now gonna be on their fourth straight cancellation, a Big 12 play.
- 10:37SPEAKER_03: And so I don't know where they're gonna fit all these games in.
- 10:41SPEAKER_03: I really don't for uh to only have 10 days to really squeeze those games in before the Big 12 tournament, that's just gonna be a tough deal and a super big challenge for the Big 12 and the NCAA, man.
- 10:52SPEAKER_02: That's concerning.
- 10:54SPEAKER_02: Uh, especially with those two uh it's against those two teams, so that can really help the record out a bit if we go and go 2-0, which we should.
- 11:02SPEAKER_02: So I I hope that there's there's plans in the making to go ahead and make those up immediately after the UT game.
- 11:08SPEAKER_02: I would assume it's after the UT game.
- 11:11SPEAKER_02: Um, but it's uh like I said, it's a 10-day window, that's tight.
- 11:15SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and they can, I mean, they can squeeze like between some of these weeks where we have like there.
- 11:21SPEAKER_03: I saw that there's a week that we have um between OU and K State where there's like games six days apart, like we'll play on a Monday, and then the next one won't be until Saturday.
- 11:30SPEAKER_03: So they could throw in the TCU or Iowa State game there on Wednesday, Thursday sort of area.
- 11:35SPEAKER_03: You know, it's it's just gonna be a lot of mixing and jumbling.
- 11:38SPEAKER_02: So um yeah, but if you do a lot of squeezing like that, I I just I hope you don't overheat your players, you know.
- 11:44SPEAKER_03: Oh, no doubt.
- 11:45SPEAKER_03: I mean, that's gonna mean four games in one week, you know, when you're doing that.
- 11:47SPEAKER_03: And and Baylor's already gonna have to do that.
- 11:49SPEAKER_03: I mean, they already have that down when they had to uh postpone the West Virginia game earlier this year.
- 11:56SPEAKER_03: They're gonna play them and they're gonna play four games in one week.
- 11:58SPEAKER_03: And our guys can do it, they're young, and and we have a pretty deep roster, so uh, you know, we're gonna have to spread around some minutes there.
- 12:05SPEAKER_03: But uh yeah, man, don't wanna don't wanna tire your team out before the uh before the postseason.
- 12:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah, for the before what we're all here for.
- 12:12SPEAKER_02: So yeah, um, yeah, uh hey, it's it's at least it's postponed, not canceled.
- 12:17SPEAKER_02: So let's just cross our fingers, Red Raider Nation, and uh hopefully we'll be cheering on our boys to take out the especially the frogs.
- 12:23SPEAKER_02: So yeah, uh for sure.
- 12:26SPEAKER_02: Iowa State we haven't seen us play the frogs yet, have we?
- 12:28SPEAKER_03: No, we haven't.
- 12:29SPEAKER_03: I in Iowa State I'm not too worried about TC's a little better than Iowa State, they're not like the gold standard by any means, but uh they're still a little better, and they're and you know it's gonna be at their place.
- 12:39SPEAKER_03: So uh that's always a little tougher game, despite our home and away records, right?
- 12:43SPEAKER_02: So that's our that's our home court, dude.
- 12:45SPEAKER_02: What are you talking about?
- 12:46SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's true.
- 12:46SPEAKER_03: I guess yeah, yeah, Fort Worth basically is is Texas Tech's home court part two and part three, besides Hilton Coliseum in Iowa State.
- 12:54SPEAKER_03: So we're just we're we're just out here.
- 12:57SPEAKER_03: Our home court is every home court, man.
- 12:59SPEAKER_03: That's how we make it.
- 13:01SPEAKER_02: Except ours right now.
- 13:03SPEAKER_03: Except ours.
- 13:04SPEAKER_03: We're we're not gonna talk that.
- 13:07SPEAKER_03: But I think that's it for basketball.
- 13:09SPEAKER_03: Until next week, we're gonna give you previews for the hopeful West Virginia and LSU games uh coming up in the coming week.
- 13:16SPEAKER_02: Um, still a fun time.
- 13:18SPEAKER_02: Thanks again to the Rambling cast.
- 13:20SPEAKER_03: No doubt.
- 13:20SPEAKER_03: Thanks again.
- 13:21SPEAKER_03: Shout out to Rambling Raiders, go give them a listen.
- 13:23SPEAKER_03: But I did want to bring up the uh I didn't want to quite leave basketball yet.
- 13:27SPEAKER_03: Uh, a couple things because Texas Tech Women just upset UT women, which we haven't won there in I think what six or seven, eight years, something like that against UT.
- 13:38SPEAKER_03: So big time win for the lady Raiders out here upsetting.
- 13:41SPEAKER_03: I believe it was number 20 or number 21, Texas.
- 13:44SPEAKER_02: So that's a one-two punch, baby.
- 13:45SPEAKER_02: Heck the dudes first, and then the ladies coming in for the second.
- 13:49SPEAKER_03: No doubt.
- 13:49SPEAKER_03: We're out here just beating UT.
- 13:51SPEAKER_03: We're out here owning the University of Texas.
- 13:55SPEAKER_02: We're all we're all we're all down with throwing some horns down.
- 13:58SPEAKER_02: So that's that's great, great look, ladies.
- 14:00SPEAKER_02: And I mean, it just a great look for uh Krista and our new staff, too.
- 14:04SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah, no doubt.
- 14:05SPEAKER_03: Big, big first significant win for Krista Gerlich, and uh, you know, some of these players that are working their tails off.
- 14:11SPEAKER_03: I mean, Lexi Gordon and um who's the girl, the transfer from Oklahoma State.
- 14:16SPEAKER_03: She's kicking butt.
- 14:17SPEAKER_03: Yeah, Vivian Gray, she's kicking butt.
- 14:19SPEAKER_03: And so uh, you know, lady raiders are getting there.
- 14:22SPEAKER_03: It's gonna take you know, it's gonna take a little time, especially after you know what happened with them this past offseason and all the crap they went through.
- 14:29SPEAKER_03: So for them to be playing hard, yeah, man.
- 14:31SPEAKER_03: But and for them to get a significant win against Texas, I mean, that's big time.
- 14:34SPEAKER_03: So shout out to them.
- 14:36SPEAKER_02: Bright future, yeah.
- 14:37SPEAKER_02: No doubt, I definitely believe in it.
- 14:38SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, sure, for sure.
- 14:40SPEAKER_03: No doubt.
- 14:41SPEAKER_03: What she's shown so far.
- 14:42SPEAKER_03: I mean, we're out here, we're out here trying to get Texas Tech uh women's basketball back to the glory that it was in the 90s.
- 14:48SPEAKER_02: We'd be with the Cheryl Swoop days, the Girling days.
- 14:52SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 14:52SPEAKER_03: Krista Gerling when she was uh oh, I can't remember her main name, but she was a different name.
- 14:57SPEAKER_03: Uh obviously got married, so you know, change that up.
- 15:00SPEAKER_03: But um, yeah, another another piece of basketball, Jalen Tyson.
- 15:03SPEAKER_03: Man, start remembering this name, Red Raider fans.
- 15:06SPEAKER_03: I mean, he's our four-star commit.
- 15:08SPEAKER_03: He already signed with the team, he's gonna be on the basketball team next year.
- 15:12SPEAKER_03: He is awesome.
- 15:13SPEAKER_03: I mean, he's been killing it lately, and uh just just big size, man.
- 15:19SPEAKER_03: He's 6'6, it shows that he's 185.
- 15:22SPEAKER_03: I watched him when we originally were looking at him last year, his junior season, and he was much skinnier than he is now.
- 15:28SPEAKER_03: So I'm looking, he's probably pushing towards the 200s by the time he gets on tech on Tech's campus.
- 15:33SPEAKER_03: And now, I mean, that's Kevin McCullough's size.
- 15:35SPEAKER_03: That's that's some good stuff, and he is killing it.
- 15:38SPEAKER_03: 28 points, 29 points, 30 points.
- 15:40SPEAKER_03: I mean, back to back to back playing against these really good schools.
- 15:43SPEAKER_03: He is he's he's good.
- 15:45SPEAKER_03: It looks like he can do everything, man.
- 15:46SPEAKER_03: He loves that step back jumper, he's got some pretty decent handles for a guy that's 6'6.
- 15:51SPEAKER_03: Looks like he can really do it all, and I'm I'm really seeing a lot of Jared Culver in this guy, potentially.
- 15:56SPEAKER_02: Hey, we you know what's really nice about watching our program that's been on the rise is you start recruiting capable freshmen, yeah.
- 16:03SPEAKER_02: So, you know, dudes that can immediately make an impact.
- 16:05SPEAKER_02: So that's that's really great to hear.
- 16:07SPEAKER_02: I'm glad to hear that young man's finishing off his high school career on a high note.
- 16:10SPEAKER_02: But I'm really excited to see him put on that red and black.
- 16:13SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no doubt.
- 16:14SPEAKER_03: And and the weird thing, I've been watching some of his highlights, his team is wearing masks during the game.
- 16:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah, are they like special in any way?
- 16:22SPEAKER_02: Are they just no?
- 16:24SPEAKER_03: They're just they're just the regular blue with the white strings, like everybody's wearing.
- 16:28SPEAKER_03: Where are they?
- 16:29SPEAKER_03: Uh, they're in um, I I think they're in the DW area.
- 16:32SPEAKER_03: I'm not 100% sure, but um, yeah, in uh John Paul II high school, uh, is where he's from.
- 16:38SPEAKER_03: And uh it's weird.
- 16:39SPEAKER_03: It's uh it doesn't really matter.
- 16:42SPEAKER_03: None of them are covering their noses, like the coaches aren't wearing masks, but they're wearing masks like during the it's weird, it's weird, but um and uh you know, even beside the fact, I mean he's killing it.
- 16:52SPEAKER_03: So if he has to wear the mask during the game and he puts up 30 points, I don't give a I don't give a shit.
- 16:57SPEAKER_02: We're just thinking of this as extra cardio, yeah.
- 17:00SPEAKER_03: No doubt, no doubt.
- 17:01SPEAKER_03: Just make it a little harder to breathe.
- 17:03SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 17:04SPEAKER_02: That's what athletes love is making it harder to breathe.
- 17:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah, so just a weird, a weird little uh tidbit there from uh Jalen Tyson.
- 17:11SPEAKER_03: But once he gets on campus, man, I think he's gonna be an immediate impact freshman.
- 17:15SPEAKER_03: I mean, he seems like he's got it, and he's hyped up.
- 17:17SPEAKER_03: I saw one, I saw one uh group of highlights from one game, and he uh fouled out and he was so dejected.
- 17:25SPEAKER_03: But even after his team came back and ended up winning after a big comeback from the other side, and he was celebrating, I mean, getting at his guys, I mean, you know, some Chris Beard stuff, some stuff that you like to see from a guy that picks up your guys even when you can't really contribute because you fouled out or you're out of the game.
- 17:40SPEAKER_02: So uh we like attitude guys, we like guys that bring culture.
- 17:44SPEAKER_02: So that's that's a good sign, man.
- 17:45SPEAKER_02: It's that's it's something that you can't really train any guy.
- 17:48SPEAKER_03: So yeah, for sure.
- 17:49SPEAKER_03: So uh lucky, lucky to get this guy signed with Texas Tech, and uh hopefully next year, you know, he's gonna kill it.
- 17:55SPEAKER_03: But uh we did have another shout out Texas Tech track and field starting off on a very, very strong note.
- 18:03SPEAKER_03: These guys and girls are just unreal, man.
- 18:06SPEAKER_03: I mean, we get some of the best from all around the world.
- 18:11SPEAKER_02: It's the best program on campus.
- 18:13SPEAKER_02: I'm pretty sure we're technically still the reigning national champions.
- 18:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, because they did, yeah, they got their stuff probably cut off from COVID in the 2020 season.
- 18:21SPEAKER_03: But uh, three Red Raiders became world leaders in three different events, man.
- 18:26SPEAKER_03: Shout out that to Ruth Asoro, uh, triple jump.
- 18:30SPEAKER_03: She came, made a new world world leader in that in that event now.
- 18:35SPEAKER_03: Courtney Lindsay in the 200 meter, and oh my god, if I can I cannot pronounce this man's name.
- 18:41SPEAKER_03: Um, I'm gonna give it a go.
- 18:43SPEAKER_03: Uh to Keith Takitine Hadili uh in the 800 meter, he's Algerian.
- 18:50SPEAKER_02: And uh high five, man.
- 18:53SPEAKER_02: High five on giving your best shot there.
- 18:55SPEAKER_02: But you know what's you know what's really cool about uh track and field is that these are guys you can you you you have a good shot of seeing in the Olympics.
- 19:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you know, whenever they're doing stuff like this, like these are the ones that you see go to the Olympics.
- 19:09SPEAKER_02: So the team sports, not as common, but with with with these individual sports, it's really cool to see them because not even just uh playing for our beloved United States, they can like go play for their home countries too, which is just as awesome.
- 19:21SPEAKER_02: So uh that's it's just I I hope we get to turn on the Tokyo Olympics and be like, there they are, there's Red Raiders, baby.
- 19:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we we've been able to do that before.
- 19:30SPEAKER_02: So I I want to see it again, you know.
- 19:32SPEAKER_02: So I love the Olympics, I know you do too.
- 19:34SPEAKER_03: So no doubt, man.
- 19:35SPEAKER_03: I mean, it's uh that it's right up there, it's right up there with March Madness is the best event in sports.
- 19:40SPEAKER_03: I mean, it's it's awesome to see how elite we are at at these events, and uh another shout out to Cabe Oladipo for the weight throw.
- 19:51SPEAKER_03: He threw that bad boy 71 feet and 10 and 0.75 inches or 21.91 meters.
- 20:00SPEAKER_03: He threw the weight throw.
- 20:03SPEAKER_03: Just absolutely nuts, dude.
- 20:05SPEAKER_03: Absolutely nuts on these people.
- 20:07SPEAKER_03: Uh Ruth Asoro also, she also got Big 12 athlete of the week.
- 20:12SPEAKER_03: So shout out to her.
- 20:13SPEAKER_03: She she set some new records too with her combined triple jump and long jump, I think.
- 20:18SPEAKER_03: Uh, getting a combined jump of 68 feet and 2.5 inches.
- 20:24SPEAKER_03: That's combining both events, but still, you think about that.
- 20:28SPEAKER_03: This girl jumped a human being.
- 20:30SPEAKER_03: This girl, this girl jumped 68 feet in two events.
- 20:35SPEAKER_03: It's that's insane madness, dude.
- 20:38SPEAKER_03: That's nutty, dude.
- 20:40SPEAKER_02: Man, okay.
- 20:41SPEAKER_02: So I'm pretty sure our national championship was in the men's team.
- 20:44SPEAKER_02: So I hope the ladies can be able to do that.
- 20:45SPEAKER_03: Well, I think it was wasn't it combined?
- 20:47SPEAKER_03: Wasn't it just like the outdoor university?
- 20:50SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 20:51SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 20:52SPEAKER_03: You might be right.
- 20:52SPEAKER_03: I'm talking out of our ass right now.
- 20:54SPEAKER_02: So I yeah, we really are.
- 20:55SPEAKER_02: But I all we know is we got a natty in this hoe.
- 20:57SPEAKER_02: So let's all we know.
- 20:59SPEAKER_03: All we know is we're elite at track and field.
- 21:02SPEAKER_03: So hopefully in the coming events, you know, we're just as elite and we're just as awesome, and we get all these people on watch and on notice for the Olympics.
- 21:11SPEAKER_02: Absolutely, man.
- 21:12SPEAKER_03: No doubt.
- 21:13SPEAKER_03: But I mean, unfortunately, with the uh with the two cancellations or two postponements, I should say, on basketball this week, there's not too much to talk about uh more with sports.
- 21:24SPEAKER_03: So we figured, you know, we'd kind of give you something a little different, you know, something to kind of make up a little time that we would have had talking about these upcoming games.
- 21:33SPEAKER_03: So we're gonna just do a few little quick fire questions to each other and just kind of debate some random shit, man.
- 21:39SPEAKER_03: I mean, we're just gonna we're just gonna talk about some stuff.
- 21:42SPEAKER_02: The guns up quickfire here.
- 21:44SPEAKER_02: A little uh, a little mostly tech and Lubbock West Texas related stuff.
- 21:50SPEAKER_02: Um, so let's go ahead and give it a go.
- 21:52SPEAKER_02: You know, let's let's waste some people's time.
- 21:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no doubt, man.
- 21:55SPEAKER_03: So I'm gonna give you the first question.
- 21:57SPEAKER_03: All right, hit me.
- 21:57SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna go favorite spot to eat.
- 22:00SPEAKER_03: On campus?
- 22:01SPEAKER_02: On campus?
- 22:03SPEAKER_02: Great question.
- 22:04SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna have to say the Einstein's in the Rawls, because I probably spent the most money there than any other food joint.
- 22:10SPEAKER_02: Because I would get a coffee there like every dang day, maybe an everything bagel.
- 22:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 22:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah, for sure.
- 22:15SPEAKER_03: I went to the one by uh Talkington.
- 22:17SPEAKER_03: I think that was the one over there, uh, the the nicer dorms that we couldn't have.
- 22:22SPEAKER_01: Uh yeah, man.
- 22:23SPEAKER_03: Yeah, Einstein's was always clutch in the morning.
- 22:25SPEAKER_03: Just grab a bagel and a coffee and what was removed.
- 22:27SPEAKER_02: I I would get I would get the hazelnut coffee and everything bagel with either like the jalapeno schmear or the salmon schmear.
- 22:36SPEAKER_02: Those were my two.
- 22:37SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 22:38SPEAKER_03: I mean the sandwiches were fine.
- 22:39SPEAKER_03: I didn't get the sandwiches very often, but they did have the like salmon.
- 22:44SPEAKER_02: Oh, the Novalox.
- 22:45SPEAKER_03: Oh, dude, yeah.
- 22:46SPEAKER_03: That was fire.
- 22:47SPEAKER_03: But uh, like in terms of bagels, I'd usually just go everything with uh they had a garlic herb cream cheese, fire.
- 22:54SPEAKER_03: It made your breath smell like I was about to say, salmon scheme and garlic herb.
- 22:57SPEAKER_03: Yeah, bad, bad for the breath.
- 22:59SPEAKER_03: Not good for the breath.
- 23:01SPEAKER_03: Make sure to get some gum.
- 23:02SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah, get some gum or some mouthwash, bring it with you.
- 23:05SPEAKER_03: But uh, it was just so good.
- 23:07SPEAKER_03: I couldn't resist.
- 23:08SPEAKER_03: It was like, sorry guys, you're just gonna have to deal with my rank breath.
- 23:13SPEAKER_02: All right, good, good opening question, dude.
- 23:15SPEAKER_02: All right, for this one, great, great question for you is favorite bathroom in the bars.
- 23:22SPEAKER_03: Bathroom in the bar.
- 23:23SPEAKER_03: That's a that's fun.
- 23:25SPEAKER_03: That's a good question.
- 23:26SPEAKER_03: Um oh man, golly.
- 23:30SPEAKER_02: You want me to open it up?
- 23:31SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you you start her off here and let me think.
- 23:33SPEAKER_02: All right, so kind of a basic one, but I have a good reasoning, chimmies, because the the toilet stall had no door, so there was no dividers between the urles, so everyone was in this massive bonding experience.
- 23:49SPEAKER_02: So we're all just dudes, you know, letting it go.
- 23:53SPEAKER_02: You know, there's a big old mirror so you can see everybody, and there's no walls, it's just guys being dudes in this borderless bathroom.
- 24:01SPEAKER_03: Okay, I think most people would put that as their worst bathroom of the bars.
- 24:07SPEAKER_03: You're going full on, that's the best.
- 24:09SPEAKER_03: So, all right, man.
- 24:10SPEAKER_03: I'm not gonna agree with you on that one.
- 24:14SPEAKER_03: But I'm probably gonna say, I'm probably gonna say PM because PM is where I probably made the most friends.
- 24:20SPEAKER_03: Uh, it's a good way to get away from the smoke.
- 24:24SPEAKER_03: I know, you know, if you want to smoke whatever, I don't have a real problem with it.
- 24:27SPEAKER_03: But you know, going into the bathroom is kind of an escape a little bit.
- 24:30SPEAKER_03: It's a single, yeah.
- 24:32SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 24:33SPEAKER_03: And so, you know, you could just get away from it and and just kind of get out of there.
- 24:37SPEAKER_03: And that's also when you're the most uh that's when we were the most drunk, was when we were at PM because for some reason we always ended there.
- 24:43SPEAKER_03: So it's like yeah, you're meeting friends on the way there, and then you know, it's a good time.
- 24:48SPEAKER_03: So I'm gonna go with PM.
- 24:50SPEAKER_03: Uh definitely a fun question.
- 24:52SPEAKER_03: That's something I did not expect.
- 24:56SPEAKER_03: No doubt.
- 24:57SPEAKER_03: So I'm gonna go.
- 24:59SPEAKER_03: Let's see.
- 25:00SPEAKER_03: Favorite underrated tech athlete since we were freshmen.
- 25:05SPEAKER_03: So 24 since 2014, who's your favorite?
- 25:07SPEAKER_03: You can't say Jared Culver, can't say Mahomes.
- 25:10SPEAKER_03: Favorite underrated athlete, under some guy that people wouldn't really expect, but you just absolutely loved the first one that pops to my mind, and I'm sorry that it's football, it's Dylan Cantrell.
- 25:22SPEAKER_03: Okay, okay.
- 25:22SPEAKER_02: That guy had like I feel like if you throw it to him, that there's a 95% chance that guy's catching it.
- 25:28SPEAKER_02: And I always felt like we were always underutilized the man, and he was built like a brick house.
- 25:33SPEAKER_03: So yeah, he was really he had tight end size.
- 25:37SPEAKER_03: He was a big dude, but yeah, I I agree with you.
- 25:39SPEAKER_03: Every time we were throwing it to Cantrell, we're like, the dude's gonna catch it.
- 25:42SPEAKER_03: Like, if you need a five yard, yeah, man.
- 25:45SPEAKER_03: If you're like third and three and you need four yards, throw it to Cantrell because it's gonna be it's gonna be converted for sure.
- 25:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's gonna be there.
- 25:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no doubt.
- 25:56SPEAKER_03: Mine is mine's odiasse, and so you know, everybody loves everybody loves that Final Four team, everybody loves the team that made it there.
- 26:04SPEAKER_03: They talk about Jerry Cover, they talk about Matt Mooney, Moretti.
- 26:07SPEAKER_03: Odeyase was on this team for five, four years.
- 26:10SPEAKER_03: He was a fifth-year senior by the time he left.
- 26:13SPEAKER_03: He progressed so great throughout his time.
- 26:17SPEAKER_03: Like when he came into tech, and your brother can vouch for this because he was there for his freshman season, and my god, man, yikes was he not looking good as a freshman.
- 26:28SPEAKER_03: I mean, he couldn't run right, he couldn't, he was out of shape, he was a little tubby, like and he came in and just completely changed his body.
- 26:36SPEAKER_03: And I remember the one summer, I it was probably between his like sophomore and junior year or something like that, and he just beefed up.
- 26:42SPEAKER_03: And we were like, Whoa, who is this guy?
- 26:45SPEAKER_03: And he was such a crucial part of that Final Four team, you know, a guy that does all the dirty stuff, sets screens, rebounds, you know, gets in the band, like you know, gets bodies up, guys.
- 26:55SPEAKER_03: Just the dude that you love, man.
- 26:57SPEAKER_02: He became such a leader, you know.
- 26:59SPEAKER_02: He really, he really became he really filled that role when I I don't I don't know if anyone was really expecting it to happen.
- 27:04SPEAKER_02: I feel like he just kind of transformed over beard took over, and I think it's just kind of like that beard effect.
- 27:10SPEAKER_02: So that's a good that's a good one, man.
- 27:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah, man.
- 27:13SPEAKER_03: And he came in when Tubby was still coach, so right.
- 27:15SPEAKER_03: That's what I mean.
- 27:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah, Tubby brought him in and he went through the coaching change like crazy.
- 27:20SPEAKER_03: Like, I mean, everybody would with Chris Beard, but um, you know, he was a real leader and a real uh uh a guy that was there through the whole program change, man.
- 27:28SPEAKER_03: So shout out to Norrance.
- 27:30SPEAKER_03: He was in uh we had a class together one time, and uh he no one showed up for this.
- 27:35SPEAKER_03: It was one of those like where you don't look at your email in time and the class got canceled, and so like you know, maybe one fourth of the people show up, and we were just all sitting there, just kind of waiting around.
- 27:45SPEAKER_03: It was like 9 a.m.
- 27:46SPEAKER_03: and we were like, What the hell?
- 27:48SPEAKER_03: Where is everybody?
- 27:49SPEAKER_03: Did and so and Norrence is sitting in front of me and he's like, Hey man, I think class is canceled, and it's like super deep voice.
- 27:56SPEAKER_03: I was like, All right, right on, dude.
- 27:58SPEAKER_03: Thank you, Norrence.
- 27:59SPEAKER_03: Thanks, Norrence.
- 28:01SPEAKER_03: Yeah, dude, yeah, he was he was always my favorite, probably underrated.
- 28:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's a good one, man.
- 28:06SPEAKER_02: And he he's kind of unforgettable for our class, so yeah, uh, because he was a freshman, we were a freshman, right?
- 28:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, I think that's right.
- 28:13SPEAKER_03: I think that's right.
- 28:14SPEAKER_03: When we came in in 2014, he that was his friend, yeah, yeah.
- 28:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah, all right.
- 28:18SPEAKER_02: You ready for mine?
- 28:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah, go ahead.
- 28:20SPEAKER_02: All right, so you drank too much coffee, or you know, you ate too much before class.
- 28:26SPEAKER_02: Is this another bathroom question?
- 28:29SPEAKER_02: You gotta do something that you don't like to do.
- 28:31SPEAKER_03: You can't have two bathroom questions.
- 28:34SPEAKER_02: Are you this is my this is my question?
- 28:37SPEAKER_02: We can make it quick if you want, but all right, but this trip isn't gonna be quick.
- 28:41SPEAKER_02: Where do you go on campus?
- 28:45SPEAKER_03: If you need if you need a timeout, if you just need a full ass timeout, where are you going on campus?
- 28:56SPEAKER_02: Everybody can relate to this one, and I don't want anyone to pretend like they can't.
- 28:59SPEAKER_03: You know, I can't first off, I can't believe this is your second bathroom question.
- 29:04SPEAKER_02: My second question.
- 29:05SPEAKER_03: This is your second overall question.
- 29:07SPEAKER_03: This is your second bathroom question.
- 29:09SPEAKER_03: I wasn't expecting one, but if if I need a full time out, if I need just a just time to myself to let the demons out, I appreciated, and this might be a weird answer, but I don't remember.
- 29:25SPEAKER_03: It was one of the science buildings, it was the building that they actually put the re the big wreath on at Kerala Lights, so one of the really old ones, yeah, and underrated.
- 29:37SPEAKER_03: You go down to the like the bum floor floor, there ain't nobody there.
- 29:43SPEAKER_03: And it unless it unless there was a class, like they had one big, like a like big hall down there.
- 29:49SPEAKER_03: I think that's where we took uh uh geology.
- 29:52SPEAKER_03: And once you go down there, I mean I just went one time, I was not just and I probably was there for 15-20 minutes, and I was not disturbed at all.
- 30:02SPEAKER_03: So, shouts out to either the chemistry or science or whatever building, but uh yeah, that's that's my answer to your second bathroom question of the day.
- 30:14SPEAKER_02: English building, easy go to the third or fourth floor, ain't nobody up there, and they're nice and fresh, they're new, they got the latest technology, they're nicely tiled, they're clean, they're unused, they're empty, nobody's disturbing you.
- 30:31SPEAKER_02: It's a really quiet floor, so you have all the you have everything going your way to concentrate and get it done.
- 30:38SPEAKER_02: That's easy.
- 30:40SPEAKER_02: Shout out English building.
- 30:44SPEAKER_03: Good place to poop.
- 30:50SPEAKER_03: You're the worst.
- 30:52SPEAKER_03: Your turn.
- 30:54SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 30:55SPEAKER_03: Um keeping keeping it uh keeping it away from the bathroom.
- 31:03SPEAKER_03: Let's go with favorite type.
- 31:06SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna just do a generic one.
- 31:08SPEAKER_03: Favorite type of beer.
- 31:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 31:13SPEAKER_03: Favorite type of beer to drink in college.
- 31:14SPEAKER_03: Like, what are you?
- 31:16SPEAKER_02: Like if you're at the you know with the board.
- 31:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah, if you're if you're at the let's do both.
- 31:20SPEAKER_03: If you're at the bar, so say we're going to crickets, which beer are you ordering?
- 31:25SPEAKER_02: Lone star long neck.
- 31:27SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 31:28SPEAKER_02: Lone star light if they have it, you know?
- 31:30SPEAKER_02: That's it.
- 31:30SPEAKER_02: I want the riddles on the cap.
- 31:32SPEAKER_02: It's like a buck, and it's light, it's shrinkable, it's cheap, it's cold.
- 31:37SPEAKER_02: Easily Lone Star Light or just Lone Star.
- 31:40SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 31:40SPEAKER_02: Now with the boys.
- 31:42SPEAKER_02: With the boys, you grab yourself a suit suitcase of Keystones.
- 31:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah, always.
- 31:46SPEAKER_02: You get that like$20 at most case for 30 30 stones.
- 31:52SPEAKER_02: That's that's the move.
- 31:53SPEAKER_02: Is yours gonna be any different?
- 31:55SPEAKER_02: Am I hearing anything different here?
- 31:57SPEAKER_03: I mean, I don't think so.
- 31:58SPEAKER_03: I think I like to at the bars, it's a little different.
- 32:01SPEAKER_03: I don't, I don't, I don't I guess we would order Lone Stars most of the time, but if I'm like going, like I probably want like at least at least to start off hide.
- 32:11SPEAKER_03: I want something that's you know, you know, a little step up step up from Lone Star.
- 32:16SPEAKER_03: So probably like a Love Street or like a shiner blonde.
- 32:20SPEAKER_03: Damn, like your first that's like your first or second beer, like that's all right, you know.
- 32:25SPEAKER_03: And then, but then you know, as you're carrying on, it doesn't really matter what you're drinking as long as it has alcohol in it.
- 32:32SPEAKER_03: So stars, stones, natty light, whatever you want.
- 32:36SPEAKER_02: Here's here's my big thing with stars, besides everything I've listed is every place will have a different kind of lone star for you.
- 32:43SPEAKER_02: You go to crickets, they're gonna give you a draft lone star.
- 32:46SPEAKER_02: Okay, you go to Chimmies, they're gonna give you a tall boy lone star.
- 32:50SPEAKER_02: Nice.
- 32:51SPEAKER_02: You go to pretty much any of the others, you get a long neck lone star, which gives you a riddle.
- 32:56SPEAKER_02: So it's it's a fun journey you take with lone star.
- 33:00SPEAKER_02: And it's the most it's like the cheapest beer at the bar.
- 33:03SPEAKER_03: It's the most versatile beer.
- 33:04SPEAKER_02: It is there.
- 33:05SPEAKER_03: You go, boom.
- 33:06SPEAKER_03: And it's Texan.
- 33:07SPEAKER_03: There you go.
- 33:08SPEAKER_03: That's good, good.
- 33:09SPEAKER_03: Oh, also, I should say Ziegenbach.
- 33:10SPEAKER_03: I drank a good amount of Ziegumbox towards the end.
- 33:13SPEAKER_03: Yeah, Jazz had the Ziegenbach on tap.
- 33:15SPEAKER_03: Like, that's where shout out to Jazz.
- 33:17SPEAKER_03: If y'all in Lubbock have not been to Jazz, you need to go right off there off 19th, right across from well, not right across from campus, but like a little ways down.
- 33:26SPEAKER_03: Go to Jazz, Jazz Rock.
- 33:28SPEAKER_02: Sure.
- 33:29SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 33:30SPEAKER_02: You know what?
- 33:31SPEAKER_02: Let's keep it with let's keep it with booze.
- 33:33SPEAKER_02: So you asked me beer.
- 33:35SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 33:37SPEAKER_02: We're we're going to Broadway and we're getting cocktails to begin.
- 33:40SPEAKER_03: It's Texas T.
- 33:41SPEAKER_03: The answer is.
- 33:45SPEAKER_03: That's what we do.
- 33:46SPEAKER_03: We went to we went to local and got a Texas tea to start off the night at least like three-fifths of the time.
- 33:54SPEAKER_03: Like, okay, that's that's how you get your night started.
- 33:56SPEAKER_03: Like, if you're gonna have a yucky night, you better start with Texas teas.
- 33:59SPEAKER_02: But you can only get those at local, so you'd have to start at local to get the Texas teas.
- 34:03SPEAKER_02: There you go.
- 34:04SPEAKER_02: We started local.
- 34:06SPEAKER_02: I you know, I I I love I love the tenacity of that answer with the Texas teas, but I gotta say, it's the Chilton.
- 34:15SPEAKER_02: It's especially the spicy Chilton at Chimmies.
- 34:18SPEAKER_02: Those I think Chimis had the best Chilton.
- 34:21SPEAKER_02: I I I really do.
- 34:22SPEAKER_02: They squeezed the lemon right in front of you and everything.
- 34:24SPEAKER_02: It was it's it was it was phenomenal.
- 34:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that that and their they were really uh known for their citrusy beverages, you know, with their with their margaritas and everything like that.
- 34:34SPEAKER_03: But yeah, I agree with you.
- 34:35SPEAKER_03: I I miss Chilton's.
- 34:36SPEAKER_03: Like it's weird that no one really knows about it outside of Lubbock, and that's what makes it like so cool.
- 34:42SPEAKER_03: Exactly.
- 34:43SPEAKER_03: You know, the drink itself so like I don't know so like awesome, just that it's it's a Lovbock staple.
- 34:50SPEAKER_03: Exactly.
- 34:51SPEAKER_02: West it's the West Texas icon, and it's so refreshing.
- 34:54SPEAKER_02: And I'm not a big vodka guy, but with Chilton's, I'm all in, you know.
- 34:58SPEAKER_03: I don't know how you can't be a big vodka guy in mixed drinks.
- 35:00SPEAKER_03: Like, you just that's that's the liquor that gets the most mast.
- 35:04SPEAKER_03: Like you do not taste it.
- 35:05SPEAKER_02: Yes, but most of the times, whenever I'm having a cocktail, I do want to taste the booze.
- 35:10SPEAKER_02: Like, if I'm having old fashioned, I'd like to taste the whiskey, or if I'm having a ranch water, I'd like to taste the tequila.
- 35:15SPEAKER_03: You know, it's well, that's why people drink vodka drinks, so they don't taste taste the other.
- 35:19SPEAKER_02: That's true, but I'm just saying that's not usually my thing.
- 35:21SPEAKER_02: Okay, shout out shout out.
- 35:24SPEAKER_03: Okay, I'm gonna go another, and you can keep this to Lubbock specific, you can keep it to your whole life.
- 35:30SPEAKER_03: What's the best concert you've been to?
- 35:33SPEAKER_02: Jimmy Buffett.
- 35:35SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 35:35SPEAKER_02: Uh I've been to Jimmy Buffett a couple times in Frisco, and it's just a blast.
- 35:40SPEAKER_02: You're like at this big old Pete Beach party with a bunch of old people that just love Jimmy Buffett, and it's just so much fun.
- 35:45SPEAKER_02: You're getting hammered on uh land sharks, yeah, and you know you're you're wearing goofy tie-dye or or beach gear, and it's just it's just it's just a beach party when you're landlocked.
- 35:55SPEAKER_02: It's definitely Jimmy Buffett and every song you can sing to.
- 35:57SPEAKER_03: Right on, yeah.
- 35:58SPEAKER_03: Everybody knows Paradise.
- 36:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but I've also seen George Strait in concert, which is obviously a dream come true.
- 36:04SPEAKER_02: But it for just fun, it's Jimmy Buffett.
- 36:07SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no doubt.
- 36:08SPEAKER_03: Where'd you see George Strait?
- 36:09SPEAKER_03: Did you see him in Oklahoma?
- 36:10SPEAKER_03: Tulsa in Tulsa, yeah.
- 36:11SPEAKER_03: Yeah, was he at the the Bach?
- 36:13SPEAKER_02: He was at the Bach.
- 36:15SPEAKER_03: Right on, man.
- 36:16SPEAKER_03: That's a good concert.
- 36:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah, what about you?
- 36:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's mine's George Strait.
- 36:20SPEAKER_03: Mine, you know, in San Antonio when I was probably oh, I don't know, 15 or so, 14 or 15.
- 36:27SPEAKER_03: And uh he was doing his like his first of three uh going away tours.
- 36:33SPEAKER_03: And he was he was down in San Antonio.
- 36:35SPEAKER_03: He sang a lot of the old songs because you know he's from the area, and uh it was at it was at uh the Alamo Dome and he had the spinning stage.
- 36:44SPEAKER_03: And I think Miranda Lambert was there with him, and um he had another he had another person there with him, but uh uh just he's it's epic, man.
- 36:52SPEAKER_03: Going to see George Strait before you know he finally stops doing it whenever that is.
- 36:57SPEAKER_03: It's just uh you know, it's something I can tell my kids about.
- 37:00SPEAKER_02: That's a great answer.
- 37:01SPEAKER_02: You know, I'm not never gonna argue with uh you saying George Strait for that one.
- 37:05SPEAKER_03: So but but I also saw Kiss Live and they were good, man.
- 37:08SPEAKER_03: I really enjoyed that concert.
- 37:10SPEAKER_03: Those those old dudes were were kicking it still, and I mean that was probably it was surprisingly, that was my first ever concert ever when I was probably like 11.
- 37:19SPEAKER_03: 11 or 12.
- 37:20SPEAKER_03: My uncle got his tickets to go see KISS, and KISS was it was entertaining as hell, man.
- 37:25SPEAKER_03: That one's different, yeah.
- 37:27SPEAKER_02: That's going super old people, yeah.
- 37:29SPEAKER_03: No doubt, no doubt.
- 37:30SPEAKER_03: Bunch of an older crowd there.
- 37:32SPEAKER_02: I will say I can imagine that.
- 37:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah, for sure.
- 37:36SPEAKER_03: So, okay, let's do one more.
- 37:38SPEAKER_03: Let's do one more each.
- 37:39SPEAKER_03: We don't want to make this you know five hours long.
- 37:42SPEAKER_03: But uh, I'm gonna go with I want to keep it I didn't my last one wasn't specific to tech, but I'm gonna keep it okay.
- 37:54SPEAKER_03: Favorite favorite way to waste your time in college to distract yourself.
- 38:06SPEAKER_02: Uh pounding stones and playing video games on a Tuesday night.
- 38:11SPEAKER_02: My man.
- 38:11SPEAKER_02: Easily.
- 38:12SPEAKER_03: I knew you were gonna say video games, but pounding stones.
- 38:16SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah, and it's on a Tuesday night, and how it starts is I get home from lacrosse practice and you're just chilling there.
- 38:24SPEAKER_02: One of us goes to the fridge and goes, Want a beer?
- 38:27SPEAKER_02: And like, yeah, yeah, and then it just turns into a whole night, and you're playing Pokemon Stadium, and I'm playing like Battlefield on the PlayStation, you know, the boys.
- 38:38SPEAKER_02: We have the setup, those are my favorite nights to just waste time, like not including going out and hanging out with everybody.
- 38:43SPEAKER_02: If I'm just in, then yeah, stones and video games.
- 38:46SPEAKER_03: Well, because this was like on Tuesdays or some stupid day, just getting because one guy goes, beer, and you go, all right.
- 38:57SPEAKER_02: Especially whenever uh uh Clay moved in with us, it was just all three of us would be in the living room getting drunk on a rack of stones and finish it at night, you know.
- 39:05SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, for sure.
- 39:06SPEAKER_03: I had the old N64 down there playing uh Pokemon.
- 39:10SPEAKER_03: We got from Goodwill 20 bucks, easy money, best best money I ever spent in my life.
- 39:16SPEAKER_03: Uh no, but I could never beat the elite four.
- 39:19SPEAKER_03: I still cannot beat the elite four.
- 39:21SPEAKER_03: Uh please give me give me game, uh, give me cheat codes, give me something to work, give me the ultimate god lineup that I can beat the elite four in in in 64 Pokemon Stadium.
- 39:33SPEAKER_03: Please, yes, treasured listeners.
- 39:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah, help me out.
- 39:36SPEAKER_02: Drop a drop a lineup, six Pokemon from Pokemon Stadium of how Steven beats the elite four.
- 39:41SPEAKER_02: You could never do it in college.
- 39:43SPEAKER_03: I know your team's yeah, no, that was mine.
- 39:46SPEAKER_03: Okay, easy.
- 39:47SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no, that was yeah, that was mine.
- 39:49SPEAKER_03: That's that's I mean, great, great times with the boys just messing around.
- 39:54SPEAKER_03: We didn't do this enough, we had easy access to our roof.
- 39:58SPEAKER_03: We should have got on the roof.
- 39:59SPEAKER_02: I was thinking the same thing.
- 40:01SPEAKER_02: I agree.
- 40:02SPEAKER_02: We didn't get up there.
- 40:03SPEAKER_03: Cigars or whatever, just we didn't get on the roof enough.
- 40:06SPEAKER_03: I was really excited when we got the house that we had easy accessibility to the roof, and we just didn't take advantage.
- 40:13SPEAKER_02: That's that's 100% true.
- 40:14SPEAKER_02: We usually only get up there if we were already pretty hammered, though.
- 40:17SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no doubt.
- 40:18SPEAKER_03: We barely made it up there, but that's true.
- 40:20SPEAKER_03: All right, man.
- 40:21SPEAKER_03: Give me your last quick fire.
- 40:22SPEAKER_02: All right, my last one.
- 40:25SPEAKER_02: Okay, you know, I've been bugging about uh bugging you about this one for a while, and it's gonna be off topic.
- 40:30SPEAKER_02: Favorite dinosaur.
- 40:32SPEAKER_03: Damn it.
- 40:34SPEAKER_03: You and the dinos, man.
- 40:36SPEAKER_03: Um like dinosaurs.
- 40:39SPEAKER_03: Uh Spinosaurus.
- 40:40SPEAKER_03: That's it.
- 40:41SPEAKER_03: Jurassic Park, Jurassic Park 3.
- 40:44SPEAKER_03: Awesome movie.
- 40:45SPEAKER_03: The Spinosaurus was really cool.
- 40:47SPEAKER_03: It's big.
- 40:48SPEAKER_03: I like big animals.
- 40:49SPEAKER_03: Like the whale is my favorite animal.
- 40:52SPEAKER_03: Spinosaurus, the bigger they are, you know.
- 40:54SPEAKER_02: Why would you why would you not why would you not pick a sauropod then?
- 40:58SPEAKER_02: What do you what?
- 40:59SPEAKER_02: Those are long necks.
- 41:01SPEAKER_03: No, I like the guys that have the sharp teeth.
- 41:04SPEAKER_03: Like, shout out Littlefoot from Land Before Time, but I I like I like the spinos.
- 41:10SPEAKER_02: That's that is a good answer.
- 41:11SPEAKER_02: Um, but in and but the the little inaccuracy in that movie is that a spinosaurus would be able to defeat a T-Rex.
- 41:18SPEAKER_02: The Spinosaurus' face is just not built for combat.
- 41:21SPEAKER_03: So I just Jurassic Park was trying to make the movies.
- 41:27SPEAKER_03: I think they're going more for entertaining.
- 41:30SPEAKER_02: Their their mouths are made for fishing, but anyway, I'm gonna have to go with Dinoticus.
- 41:34unknown: Oh my god.
- 41:36SPEAKER_02: Nobody knows what that is.
- 41:38SPEAKER_02: Dynauticus is what the Velociraptors were in Jurassic Park.
- 41:41SPEAKER_02: Because in reality, Velociraptors are the size of turkeys, but deny Dinoticus is a big boy.
- 41:47SPEAKER_03: You just asked this question so you could show off some dinosaur knowledge.
- 41:51SPEAKER_02: I'm flexing over here, fellas.
- 41:53SPEAKER_03: You're flexing your dino knowledge that you've learned from this podcast.
- 41:56SPEAKER_02: What about you, treasured listeners?
- 41:57SPEAKER_02: What do you guys say about it?
- 41:58SPEAKER_02: I know you all have a favorite dinosaur, no one asks anymore because you're not a kid, but never never outgrow your dinos.
- 42:05SPEAKER_03: It's a it's a it's okay if you outgrow your dinos.
- 42:09SPEAKER_03: It's okay if you grow into a normal person and don't really speak of dinosaurs much.
- 42:14SPEAKER_02: Well, that was a fun segment, man.
- 42:16SPEAKER_02: Uh, if we ever have to waste time again, that that would be fun.
- 42:18SPEAKER_02: So uh, and I'll get some more bathroom questions.
- 42:22SPEAKER_02: So let's round this out with uh song of the week.
- 42:25SPEAKER_03: All right, man.
- 42:26SPEAKER_03: Uh you go first, you always go first.
- 42:28SPEAKER_02: All right, so I'm gonna go with a very good classic, one of my favorite songs of all time.
- 42:33SPEAKER_02: I'm going old school again.
- 42:35SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna have to go with Glenn Campbell's Gentle on My Mind.
- 42:38SPEAKER_02: All right, it's another song where he's reminiscing about uh his past, maybe like an old lover, you know.
- 42:44SPEAKER_02: And it's just like one of those times when you're at peace and in your head.
- 42:48SPEAKER_02: So it's a really great song, very beautiful, good melodies, good instrumentals.
- 42:51SPEAKER_02: So I'm gonna have to go with that one, gentle on my mind.
- 42:54SPEAKER_03: That you're moving on the back roads by the rivers of my memory, and for hours you're just gentle on my mind.
- 43:04SPEAKER_03: You're big, you went through a Glenn Campbell phase.
- 43:08SPEAKER_02: I do, I got a lot of vinyls up here.
- 43:09SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 43:10SPEAKER_03: That was right when you were starting your vinyl stuff, yeah, too.
- 43:13SPEAKER_03: And you were like big Glenn Campbell guy, but yeah, yeah, man, he's got some good tunes for sure.
- 43:19SPEAKER_02: Legend.
- 43:19SPEAKER_02: What about you?
- 43:20SPEAKER_03: Uh, my song of the week is Tupelo by Jason Isbell and the 400 unit, going back to a little country vibe for me.
- 43:29SPEAKER_03: Um, it's off of his album, The Nashville Sound, or their album, I should say.
- 43:33SPEAKER_03: It's him banned.
- 43:34SPEAKER_03: He has he has some stuff, but uh he also has the stuff that he does with the 400 unit.
- 43:39SPEAKER_03: Yeah, they're good and they're good, man.
- 43:41SPEAKER_03: This song is really it's really calm.
- 43:43SPEAKER_03: It's got a good story, kind of about him and a girl, you know, going back to Tupelo, Mississippi.
- 43:48SPEAKER_03: Also, uh birthplace of Elvis Presley.
- 43:51SPEAKER_03: So kind of uh, you know, in that sort of uh sort of vibe into it.
- 43:55SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's just a really good song, just kind of kind of slower, but it his vocals are great in it, man.
- 44:00SPEAKER_03: He really sounds good.
- 44:01SPEAKER_01: I get out of this hole, I'm going to Tupelo.
- 44:08SPEAKER_01: There's a girl out there that'll treat me fair.
- 44:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Chris Beard would be proud.
- 44:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that was a song of the week on a uh uh fireside chat not that long ago.
- 44:19SPEAKER_02: Well, there was it was Alabama Pines, another fantastic song.
- 44:22SPEAKER_02: Okay, so uh good one, man.
- 44:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I really like his songwriting ability.
- 44:26SPEAKER_02: He's uh he's definitely kind of a staple in the alternative country's country lane.
- 44:29SPEAKER_02: So good way to round it out, man.
- 44:31SPEAKER_03: Yeah, man, no doubt.
- 44:32SPEAKER_03: So uh go listen to Tupelo by Jason Isbell and the 400 unit.
- 44:36SPEAKER_03: But uh, I think that's gonna end it here for this week's episode of Talking Tech Pod.
