- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:29So we're talking about facing the ugly truth today because
- 0:35it's around us and we have to face it.
- 0:37Now there are two situations that I'm going to bring up in my
- 0:40own personal life because it it just they're, they're happening
- 0:44live. And it will help to understand
- 0:47it's not just about one thing where the ugly truth shows up.
- 0:50It shows up across the board. So yesterday I had a day planned
- 0:55where I was going to go do a bunch of chores and get lots of
- 0:58things done so I could come back and have a nice evening family
- 1:03food, chicken, white bean, chili, all this stuff.
- 1:07We were like going to chill out. Everything was going to be great
- 1:10and all of a sudden we came back home and one of the girls was
- 1:17out on the lawn dead. And I knew immediately something
- 1:22was wrong because there was a vulture sitting on the post to
- 1:25the main garden. And vultures don't just come
- 1:28down unless there's something there.
- 1:30So somebody obviously killed one of my Bard rocker girls and she
- 1:36was really not in good shape. It wasn't just that she was
- 1:39killed, it was that she was really torn apart.
- 1:42And it was AI was hysterical, of course, because it happened when
- 1:46I was not here. And immediately I go into this
- 1:50phase of being angry and frustrated because this happens.
- 1:53And if you're a regular follower, you know, we have
- 1:56phases of this that seem to take place.
- 1:59And it's not something I do well with because, you know, I don't
- 2:04like to lose them. They're my pets.
- 2:06We use them for eggs and we use them for to give them love and
- 2:10have them as pets. But we do not, we do not eat the
- 2:14girls. So it's it's just it's not
- 2:17something that I can entertain ever doing.
- 2:20So here we are dealing with the ugly truth of the fact that
- 2:23we're coming into this phase of the year where these things
- 2:27start to happen. And I get very wound up about
- 2:30this. And immediately I, I just feel
- 2:34this wave of like, I have to put them all inside.
- 2:37I have to stuff them in. I have to do, you know, keep
- 2:41them safe. But the truth is they would have
- 2:43a very, very limited life if I did that.
- 2:46And I have to allow myself to say, Nope, they're allowed to go
- 2:49out. They're allowed to free range.
- 2:51And I have to figure out what I'm going to do to make sure I
- 2:54know where the attacks are coming from when you're going to
- 2:57get killed. Finally, we have Internet that
- 2:59we can use so that the I could get trail cams so we could see
- 3:03what's happening. My guess is it's a hawk that did
- 3:05it, couldn't pick her up after he did it.
- 3:08And then the vultures saw her dead and decided to come in and
- 3:12do what vultures do, which is like, you know, natures cleanup
- 3:15crew. And that's how she was so torn
- 3:18apart because it didn't look like it was a normal thing.
- 3:21And we are completely fenced in. So, you know, it, it was
- 3:25something, maybe it was random, maybe it wasn't, who knows.
- 3:28But I have to not put my head in the sand so I can't I can't go
- 3:33ostrich myself and say OK, I'm going to ignore it.
- 3:36Now the second one that happened is here.
- 3:38I am totally different type of story here.
- 3:40I am going to order all the seeds for the veg, for the big
- 3:43vegetable garden. And I've got a bunch of stuff
- 3:46that's already been sent in. I like to get from different
- 3:48places. I like to get very old world
- 3:51seeds organics, things like this.
- 3:53So there's this catalogue called the rare seed Catalogue and it's
- 3:56tremendous. It's huge.
- 3:58And they actually make you pay for the catalogue, which I don't
- 4:00mind because there's so many great varieties in there and
- 4:03strange and different varieties. But when I get it, I immediately
- 4:07go into this place of, oh, I want that.
- 4:10Oh, I want that. And then I have to face the ugly
- 4:13truth that I can't have all of them because they don't all grow
- 4:16here. Well, and not only that, but I
- 4:19cannot grow 87 varieties of things and it becomes
- 4:24overwhelming. And then I start to feel this
- 4:27emotion of going, I'm so sad. I don't have more space.
- 4:31I need to make the garden bigger.
- 4:33I need to have this. And I start to catastrophize all
- 4:36the good stuff that I have because it's not enough.
- 4:39I start to go down this road. Well, it's not, it's not going
- 4:41to work, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 4:42Not all of this, mind you. All of this conversation is
- 4:46taking place in my head. I am not saying this out loud.
- 4:49I'm taking the catalogue. I'm circling things.
- 4:53I'm I'm preparing what I'm going to order.
- 4:55I've got a cart open on my computer.
- 4:58But I'm not saying it out loud, but I know in my head I have to
- 5:02face the ugly truth that I don't have room for all that stuff.
- 5:06And I don't even know that I would want to have room for all
- 5:09of it because it would mean so much more work.
- 5:12So point of this conversation today, no matter what you're
- 5:16doing in your life, sometimes you have to face the ugly truth
- 5:19of what is and you have to stop and pause and say, hey, it's OK.
- 5:24I can still get in the right emotional head.
- 5:27Be excited about what I have to fix it.
- 5:30Be grateful that you know my rest of my chickens are totally
- 5:33OK. The Roosters had them safe,
- 5:35everything was fine, everything was fine.
- 5:38And that I have this big beautiful garden that's already
- 5:42tremendous and huge to work with.
- 5:44And maybe I can try to be creative about it, but the point
- 5:47is I can't do that when I'm in that state, running around in my
- 5:50head, going down the rabbit hole of panic.
- 5:54I have to face the ugly truth and then get myself grouped back
- 5:58up. All right, my friends, I hope
- 6:00you have a blessed day and I will see you tomorrow.
- 6:02Bye.
