- 0:20Mora as we are every Tuesday. I'm Mike Crispino and the Huskies getting ready
- 0:25to go to Houston take on Rice. This team and it's three and two.
- 0:28They're in the AAC Now Rice and they're three and oh at home.
- 0:33Coach, you go into a game with a team that's had success at home,
- 0:37obviously, what's one of the first things you gotta do to get them
- 0:42on their heels a little bit and take control of this game. Run the
- 0:46football and played good special teams and play salty defense. There's three things for
- 0:51you when you go on the road. They say you got to pack your
- 0:53offense, you gotta pack your special teams in your defense. And then I
- 0:57always think running football when you're on the road is really important. So you
- 1:03can't you can't give up. We just talked about him. You can't give
- 1:06up big plays. You know, you got to make him earning their yards.
- 1:10Yeah, last I mean last week, Husk he's running for two hundred
- 1:12and eighteen. I mean, that's that's the kind of rushing game. If
- 1:17you can get that on a weekend, week out, basis, boy,
- 1:22that would be that would be a nice boost for the team. The work
- 1:26of Cam Edwards just started playing running back here at Yukon thirteen. Carries seventy
- 1:32four yards in that game. What do you like about him? He looks
- 1:36like he can find holes when there aren't holes there. That's what I see
- 1:38when I'm sitting up in the booth. Yeah, he runs hard. He
- 1:42runs hard, and he he falls forward and you're right, he's patient.
- 1:49He's patient and he finds holes. That's exactly what happens. And another guy
- 1:56that you wouldn't consider a running back, he does wear a number nine.
- 2:00He's something Gilannie Stafford continues to be. I don't know what you call him.
- 2:05Man, he's like he's a bull in a china shop on the offensive
- 2:09side when you give him the football. I mean, it's exciting stuff.
- 2:13And coach, he caught a pass. I've seen him do it in practice.
- 2:16He's a legit athlete on both sides of the ball. Yeah, he's
- 2:22pretty talented. You know, he played running back in high school. I
- 2:23have tape of him playing running back and he's pretty good. He just played
- 2:29a really dynamic game on both sides of the ball. He was all over
- 2:31the field on defense, he made big plays on offense. He had this
- 2:36this, uh incredible intensity about him. And you know on that last play
- 2:40that he that he found a way into the end zone. You know,
- 2:45Nick told him in the huddle, hey brother, you know we're giving it
- 2:46to you and I know you're gonna get in and he says, I will
- 2:50not be denied, and he wasn't denied. And then to see him,
- 2:53you know, roll, move out into the flat and catch the ball like
- 2:55it was just second nature. You know. I think that at this level
- 3:00you have guys that are multidimensional and it's important to try to use them.
- 3:06You know, it's typically easier for a defensive player to move over and play
- 3:09in an offensive package than it is for an offensive player to come over and
- 3:14play defense because you can do specific things with him, like we're doing with
- 3:17Jilani. But you know, we're going to try to use all our players
- 3:21in ways that benefit this football team, you know, based upon their skill
- 3:25set. Tell me, I don't. I didn't get to see the replay,
- 3:30but I think it was on the touchdown he leaped up into the into
- 3:36the pile, got stopped, ended up, ending back on his feet,
- 3:40and then he started again. I mean, that's a that's a tough athletic
- 3:45move to make for a guy three hundred and ten pounds. Yeah, he's
- 3:50like, you know, he he's got really good feet, and he's got
- 3:53really good balance, he's got really good change of direction. He's got a
- 3:55lowsen or gravity that when you're right he kind of in there and bounce back
- 4:00and kept his feeting and leapt in there and he just wasn't going to be
- 4:03denied. And you know, you'll see him make a lot of plays on
- 4:06defense that are that are athletic in nature, where he can put his foot
- 4:11in the ground and change direction quickly, and he has explosiveness to to to
- 4:15get a guy in a gap before the guy can get going. So it
- 4:17doesn't surprise me at all. I think he relishes the role, you know,
- 4:23I mean, you know, eventually you kind of run out of things.
- 4:26You can do. But until it gets stopped, you just keep doing
- 4:29it. I was gonna say, I mean, if you're the other,
- 4:32if you're a Rice and you're looking at the video and you're looking at the
- 4:35last few games and you're seeing this guy getting in the end zone and get
- 4:39your first downs, you've got to suddenly put him in the game plan,
- 4:43right, If you're the defensive cordiner, you've got to figure what are we
- 4:45gonna do about this guy? Yeah, but yes, you're right, and
- 4:49they'll have a plan for it, you know, and they'll they'll do it.
- 4:54Whoever we just played, did I try to move on and forget you
- 5:00touched? You touched it? I'm kidding. No, They'll they'll stack it
- 5:03up in the middle, you know, and they'll say, hey, we're
- 5:05not gonna let him. We're gonna we're gonna try to submarine your linement and
- 5:09get under him and stack it up, and someone's gonna go up and try
- 5:12to greet him. But you know, he's still two hundred ninety seven pounds
- 5:15and he's still compact, and he's still athletic, and he's still move people
- 5:17out. So uh yeah, it's it makes your plan, It makes your
- 5:23opponent plan, that's for sure. Yeah, and it opens some things up
- 5:28maybe. I mean, Nick Harrison that that little flip four yard touchdown pass,
- 5:32But you made it look easy there because everyone played the run and Harris
- 5:36just leaked out and no one, no one covered him. I mean that
- 5:40was beautiful. Yeah. That and then Gilani's reception, right, you know,
- 5:46everyone gets so geared up and locked in on the run and all of
- 5:49a sudden you drop a little play action pass on him and as you said,
- 5:53Nick gets a touchdown, Gilanni gets a whatever fifteen twenty yard game and
- 5:58a first down. I mean those are the things that when you have versaonal
- 6:01players that that really care and work out it and you can count on you
- 6:06can do those types of things. All Jam Morris with us. This is
- 6:11Yukon Football Coaches Show. Coming up a little later on, we'll be talking
- 6:15with defensive lineman Dalmont Gordine and the veteran wide receiver who we just talked about,
- 6:20Cam Ross. We continue on the Yukon Football Coaches Show from Learfield
