- 0:31Speaker 2: Let's get right into the business. What up, y'all?
- 0:35Speaker 1: I am your host Vegas and this it's hip Hop

- 0:41Speaker 1: on all things hip hop, music and culture that happened
- 0:46Speaker 1: throughout the week. First and foremost, Happy New Year to
- 0:50Speaker 1: you and yours. Hopefully you're safe. I know you're about
- 0:53Speaker 1: to go to the gym, and I know you're gonna
- 0:56Speaker 1: quit within the month of January.
- 0:58Speaker 2: It's all good.
- 0:59Speaker 1: But if you can keep it going, please join me,
- 1:02Speaker 1: you know, because I'm trying to get back.
- 1:04Speaker 2: You know, I'm trying. I'm trying.
- 1:06Speaker 1: The holidays was good to a brother, Okay. Also, excuse me,
- 1:13Speaker 1: big shout out to the subscribers on the audio side
- 1:17Speaker 1: of things, you know who've always supported the podcast, which
- 1:23Speaker 1: is approaching ten years this year in twenty twenty six.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Now I have to probably go way back to figure
- 1:31Speaker 1: out what date I started this podcast, but I know
- 1:35Speaker 1: for a fact it's going to be ten years, ten
- 1:40Speaker 1: year anniversary of this podcast. So big shout out to
- 1:44Speaker 1: those who have been supporting in audio form for the
- 1:48Speaker 1: longest time. Also, big shout out to those of you
- 1:51Speaker 1: who have joined me within the last two years I
- 1:56Speaker 1: think two years, yeah, within the last two years, since
- 1:58Speaker 1: about twenty twenty three, I think as far as you know,
- 2:03Speaker 1: like doing the video form of this podcast, which was
- 2:06Speaker 1: something was it was requested years ago, but it was
- 2:11Speaker 1: it was just a brother didn't have the time right
- 2:13Speaker 1: to edit a video and audio and I had to
- 2:16Speaker 1: find that sweet spot where I could do both and
- 2:20Speaker 1: you know, not slack on some of the content. And
- 2:24Speaker 1: you know, again more to come in twenty twenty six.
- 2:29Speaker 1: So big shout out to everybody who supported on YouTube,
- 2:32Speaker 1: because we did reach the goal of twenty five thousand
- 2:37Speaker 1: subscribers on YouTube. So I appreciate y'all for that. Obviously,
- 2:43Speaker 1: the goals increase. I mean I see some shows that
- 2:47Speaker 1: have seventeen people on the crew and they either have
- 2:52Speaker 1: less or they have way more, and I think we
- 2:56Speaker 1: could get there, and you know, as of the taping
- 2:59Speaker 1: of this podcast. The YouTube channel is knocking on the
- 3:03Speaker 1: door of thirty k which is crazy, but nevertheless, let's
- 3:09Speaker 1: get right into the business. Same So if you don't know,
- 3:14Speaker 1: I have a substack those who aren't familiar with substack,
- 3:19Speaker 1: that's a place where writers typically write, even though they've
- 3:22Speaker 1: now added audio on video and live streaming, so it's
- 3:27Speaker 1: become something more. Hopefully the written part doesn't get lost,
- 3:32Speaker 1: because that was one of the things I liked about.
- 3:34Speaker 1: I was like, okay, you know, I used to during
- 3:37Speaker 1: the blog era, I used to have a blog called
- 3:39Speaker 1: hip Hop Politic dot com. If you watch one of
- 3:43Speaker 1: my last episodes, not the last one, but maybe the
- 3:46Speaker 1: legend has it episode where I slipped up and said
- 3:49Speaker 1: that I had a blog back and a blog error
- 3:53Speaker 1: doing a lot of the same things I do here.
- 3:55Speaker 1: And it was nice to see that substack was a
- 3:58Speaker 1: place where a lot of respetfect did writers would go
- 4:01Speaker 1: and just write about things, music, whatever it was. So
- 4:05Speaker 1: I was like, you know, let me go there and
- 4:06Speaker 1: I put out a couple of pages from my book
- 4:10Speaker 1: or a couple of chapters from my book, and there's
- 4:13Speaker 1: more where that came from. And I've done a couple
- 4:16Speaker 1: of things there, but to kick off twenty twenty six,
- 4:20Speaker 1: I was like, well, let me write. You know, I
- 4:24Speaker 1: think I wrote maybe two or three times this year,
- 4:27Speaker 1: maybe a little bit more. I can't really remember, but
- 4:30Speaker 1: I was like, to end off the year, let me
- 4:32Speaker 1: write something. So I did a written version of this
- 4:36Speaker 1: episode there, but the video version obviously will contain more
- 4:42Speaker 1: of my thoughts on twenty twenty six. So the thing
- 4:46Speaker 1: is is, twenty twenty five was a really good year
- 4:52Speaker 1: for hip hop.
- 4:52Speaker 2: It really was.
- 4:53Speaker 1: And I'm just going to read the opening paragraph of
- 4:57Speaker 1: my substack just to give you an idea where my
- 5:01Speaker 1: thoughts were for twenty twenty five. All right, So twenty
- 5:05Speaker 1: twenty five was a great year for hip hop music.
- 5:07Speaker 1: Despite the Billboard slide, no one who cares about the
- 5:10Speaker 1: music should be disappointed. From the clips historic run to
- 5:15Speaker 1: master A Pill's legend has its series of albums by
- 5:18Speaker 1: hip hop legends, including nas Day La, Soul Mob, Deep,
- 5:22Speaker 1: and more. The New School also pulled up with stellar
- 5:26Speaker 1: releases by Jed and Shae Noir and Freddie Gibbs and
- 5:30Speaker 1: Westside Gun. But the year kicked off with it unforgettable
- 5:34Speaker 1: Super Bowl halftime performance by Kendrick Lamar. I did a
- 5:38Speaker 1: whole like after the super Bowl, which the Eagles won.
- 5:41Speaker 1: You see it over there. I did a whole like live.
- 5:47Speaker 1: I think it was a livestream or just at least
- 5:49Speaker 1: a recording about that performance. That did pretty well for
- 5:55Speaker 1: my channel. So you could check that out if you
- 5:56Speaker 1: want to, you know, take a trip back in time.
- 5:59Speaker 1: But come on, dog, all from the future, now, right,
- 6:01Speaker 1: we all saw that. But what I'm saying is performing
- 6:07Speaker 1: at disc record which was not like us at the
- 6:10Speaker 1: super Bowl, was just crazy. I mean, we never seen
- 6:13Speaker 1: anything like that before. And then also obviously the Grammys.
- 6:16Speaker 1: But again, record sales aside twenty twenty five felt like
- 6:20Speaker 1: artistry mattered again or matters again, let's just say that.
- 6:27Speaker 1: And a lot of the reason why I felt that
- 6:31Speaker 1: way is because if you look at my Best of
- 6:35Speaker 1: the year, the majority of the content, they were just
- 6:40Speaker 1: good albums. Now, not to say that every year I
- 6:45Speaker 1: do this, there aren't good albums. Of course they are.
- 6:48Speaker 1: It's just that typically those albums every year are you know,
- 6:54Speaker 1: it's just joints I like, right, or they're the best
- 6:59Speaker 1: of a category. Right. If I'm like, yo, if you
- 7:01Speaker 1: want bars listen to this yo if you want, you know,
- 7:04Speaker 1: Street joints, listen to this or his something that's probably
- 7:10Speaker 1: more personally my favorite than yours. That's typically what my
- 7:14Speaker 1: lists look like, right, like a variety of things. But
- 7:19Speaker 1: they were artists like Saba and no Id putting the
- 7:23Speaker 1: album together, Ruben Vincent Chid, who I always knew, but
- 7:27Speaker 1: I didn't always check for his albums. There was just
- 7:29Speaker 1: so much music that I was like, these are good,
- 7:34Speaker 1: these are straight up good albums.
- 7:35Speaker 2: It's like old school.
- 7:37Speaker 1: And then you got Daylight Soul putting out a stellar
- 7:39Speaker 1: album and Mob Deep putting out stellar album and the
- 7:42Speaker 1: clips returning and the way they did, and it just
- 7:45Speaker 1: felt like bars maddened again, you know, maddened again, and
- 7:52Speaker 1: artist street mattered again. You know, like I'm not just
- 7:54Speaker 1: gonna make a bunch of singles. I'm gonna make a
- 7:57Speaker 1: cohesive album that's so great that, like in the form
- 8:01Speaker 1: of the clips, every time we drop a video or single,
- 8:05Speaker 1: you know, things go back up because everything is good.
- 8:08Speaker 1: And I feel like prior to maybe Hip Hop fifty,
- 8:15Speaker 1: you know Nas, notwithstanding the Nas and Hip Boy Run,
- 8:18Speaker 1: I felt like we didn't always get that, you know
- 8:21Speaker 1: what I'm saying, Like typically and you know, I know
- 8:25Speaker 1: what happened with the Battle, but I was a Drake
- 8:28Speaker 1: fan also, I felt like, you know, I would just
- 8:33Speaker 1: do like the young kids would do. You know, you
- 8:35Speaker 1: listen to the album, you pick what you like, and
- 8:37Speaker 1: you keep it moving. And everything just felt like I'm
- 8:41Speaker 1: looking for the dope records in the album. And it
- 8:44Speaker 1: was rare that an album was just complete and so
- 8:49Speaker 1: well done that you know, that project usually stood out
- 8:54Speaker 1: by itself. Like I did an episode recently called don't
- 8:58Speaker 1: Call It a Classic, and I took five albums from
- 9:01Speaker 1: the last five years that I feel comfortably calling the
- 9:04Speaker 1: classic just because of how good they are.
- 9:07Speaker 2: Front to back, first track to the last track.
- 9:11Speaker 1: So that was a rarity, whereas I feel like, and
- 9:14Speaker 1: I'm not saying my picks from twenty twenty five are
- 9:17Speaker 1: all classics.
- 9:18Speaker 2: Is one I would call it classic, but you know
- 9:22Speaker 2: what I mean.
- 9:23Speaker 1: It just felt like this year there was so much
- 9:28Speaker 1: quality music. No one who loves hip hop could complain.
- 9:32Speaker 1: If you were old school, that mass appeal run was
- 9:36Speaker 1: probably great to you, you know.
- 9:38Speaker 2: What I'm saying.
- 9:39Speaker 1: If you were a younger cat, but maybe you still
- 9:42Speaker 1: dig some of the older stuff, or you're discovering it.
- 9:46Speaker 1: That was great also, and again clips and it just
- 9:49Speaker 1: Freddy Gibbs and Alchemists dropped like twenty seven albums. You know,
- 9:55Speaker 1: it just felt like there was a change, and change
- 10:00Speaker 1: impacted not just the guys who made the fluff music
- 10:06Speaker 1: that we referred to as mumble rap.
- 10:08Speaker 2: Right, definitely changed for them.
- 10:11Speaker 1: Now, sales might still be what it is, because I mean,
- 10:14Speaker 1: it's still trendy, right, someone like twenty one Savage. I
- 10:17Speaker 1: don't even like that dude or his music. I don't
- 10:21Speaker 1: know him personally, but that wouldn't stop his album from selling.
- 10:26Speaker 2: Or Cardi B.
- 10:27Speaker 1: Well, I don't think Cardi B is in that same category,
- 10:29Speaker 1: but you know what I mean, Like, it didn't necessarily
- 10:32Speaker 1: stop the people who were more popular in hip hop
- 10:37Speaker 1: from doing some sort of numbers, right, maybe not as
- 10:41Speaker 1: crazy as before, but something. But it also, at least
- 10:46Speaker 1: for me personally, I realized this was the first year
- 10:51Speaker 1: that some of my favorite MC's didn't make my top fifteen.
- 10:59Speaker 1: Kin wait a, I've been listening to Conway for a minute.
- 11:03Speaker 1: I've been listening to Conway before he got shot. How
- 11:05Speaker 1: about that? I told you I was writing during the blog. Ever,
- 11:08Speaker 1: in all of that did a radio show before that. Okay,
- 11:12Speaker 1: so hip hop we go way back, but this is
- 11:15Speaker 1: the first time I was like, nah, I mean it's
- 11:20Speaker 1: it's more of the same, and I like more of
- 11:21Speaker 1: the same, but it's just not as special as the
- 11:25Speaker 1: ones I have in my top fifteen, right, And that's
- 11:29Speaker 1: not just being nice. All these guys I'm about to
- 11:31Speaker 1: talk about are nice on a mic, no doubt about it,
- 11:34Speaker 1: better than some of the people who are in my category.
- 11:38Speaker 1: But sometimes you could be nice, but you just not
- 11:41Speaker 1: making dope music, or you're making music that's dope.
- 11:47Speaker 2: But we've heard it.
- 11:48Speaker 1: A million times, So why don't I just go back
- 11:52Speaker 1: to the four or five albums you drop last year?
- 11:54Speaker 1: That's what I mean, right, Another album Summertime Butch Bennie.
- 12:00Speaker 1: I like that better than the first one he dropped,
- 12:03Speaker 1: and I was rocking that during the summer, you know
- 12:05Speaker 1: what I'm saying, or late summer. But I just felt
- 12:10Speaker 1: like there were albums that were just better. That was
- 12:12Speaker 1: just me as a fan of Bennie and Conway, you know,
- 12:15Speaker 1: running up the numbers for the guys.
- 12:17Speaker 2: I like, same thing could be said for Ransom.
- 12:22Speaker 1: Davies and Ransom dropped the project, but I felt like
- 12:25Speaker 1: Davies and Young Chris was better. I felt like it
- 12:28Speaker 1: was a better project to.
- 12:30Speaker 2: Me, more well rounded. Now.
- 12:32Speaker 1: The other one, of course, was Bars and all that
- 12:35Speaker 1: Ransom dropped the joint with Conductor Williams that I thought
- 12:38Speaker 1: it was better than Final Call. You know what I'm saying,
- 12:41Speaker 1: really dope, but it didn't crack my top fifteen, so
- 12:47Speaker 1: you see what I mean. Like, these are my guys,
- 12:49Speaker 1: these are go to Skatzu, these are the mainstays. Every year,
- 12:55Speaker 1: I can count on them to drop something dope, but
- 12:58Speaker 1: twenty twenty five was a little bit difficult, and I
- 13:03Speaker 1: feel like with the talent they have, obviously they can
- 13:08Speaker 1: put out a better project than what we got, which
- 13:12Speaker 1: wasn't whack. But at the end of the day, when
- 13:15Speaker 1: I looked at all the different releases from the mass
- 13:18Speaker 1: appeal stuff to guys who are renewed I was new to,
- 13:23Speaker 1: it just was more refined as projects, you know what
- 13:27Speaker 1: I'm saying, Like as projects, not as a bunch of
- 13:31Speaker 1: bars and beats as projects. And I felt like my favorites,
- 13:37Speaker 1: including Currency, I listened to all his stuff. I just
- 13:41Speaker 1: feel like there was just better out. So that's what
- 13:44Speaker 1: I mean when I say that, and it takes nothing
- 13:46Speaker 1: away from what was dropped, because obviously it was the
- 13:49Speaker 1: top fifteen. If I make it a top twenty five,
- 13:53Speaker 1: probably all three of those guys get in, right, all four.
- 13:56Speaker 1: So that was that.
- 13:59Speaker 2: But that was the thing about twenty twenty five that
- 14:02Speaker 2: was great.
- 14:03Speaker 1: It felt like bars were back, and it felt like
- 14:07Speaker 1: it started originally back when Nas and hit Boy had
- 14:11Speaker 1: their run, right, because it was something to be said
- 14:17Speaker 1: about somebody who dropped in like ninety three, or really
- 14:21Speaker 1: debuted with Main Source a live at the barbecue? What
- 14:24Speaker 1: was that ninety two ninety one? Something crazy?
- 14:27Speaker 2: Right?
- 14:28Speaker 1: A guy who Nasty Nas, who had a debut, dropped
- 14:33Speaker 1: like six albums in what was that two and a
- 14:37Speaker 1: half years, and then he drops an album with DJ
- 14:40Speaker 1: Premier in twenty twenty five. But that sixth album run
- 14:45Speaker 1: with hit Boy combining, you know, a younger generation producer
- 14:50Speaker 1: with a legend in hip hop to make new music.
- 14:55Speaker 2: That sounds great.
- 14:57Speaker 1: I think it energized everything because it happened before Hip
- 15:01Speaker 1: Hop fifty. It happened before the mass appeal run. It
- 15:04Speaker 1: happened before the clips dropped, It happened before LL came out.
- 15:08Speaker 1: It happened before Snoop and Doctor Drake got together. It
- 15:11Speaker 1: happened before Pete Rock and Common put out the basic
- 15:15Speaker 1: classic if you ask me, Auditorial Value one. So I
- 15:20Speaker 1: feel like that run kind of set the tone for
- 15:24Speaker 1: what we were going to get from a lot of
- 15:26Speaker 1: classic artists. But also in the same time, where Kendrake,
- 15:31Speaker 1: who's not necessarily new school but definitely younger than NAS's generation,
- 15:36Speaker 1: original generation of fans, he also set a tone with
- 15:41Speaker 1: that battle with Drake because they both were going you know,
- 15:46Speaker 1: it was about bars on both sides. So we can't
- 15:49Speaker 1: really take Drake out and say, oh, because he lost.
- 15:52Speaker 1: He wasn't trying to rap, he was. He just lost.
- 15:56Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. He just lost. But it
- 15:59Speaker 1: showed that that put it this way, and I'll cap
- 16:03Speaker 1: this off and go right into my predictions of the year.
- 16:09Speaker 1: But when Kendrick said, de Line, I make music that electrifying,
- 16:18Speaker 1: you make music that pacifying. That's a dividing factor right there.
- 16:23Speaker 1: That is what we are dealing with going into twenty
- 16:25Speaker 1: twenty six. Are you making music so the fans who
- 16:32Speaker 1: expect a certain thing get what they expect and they're
- 16:35Speaker 1: satisfied or you're making music that gets hip hop fans
- 16:42Speaker 1: excited about rap. Again, there's a very big difference. You
- 16:47Speaker 1: can be excited for something new and not really feel
- 16:52Speaker 1: like this is anything beyond what you've heard, or you
- 16:56Speaker 1: can get something new and say, I mean kinds of
- 17:00Speaker 1: thoughts if you a real hip hop had all kinds
- 17:02Speaker 1: of thoughts come across your mind, like damnus crazy? Who
- 17:05Speaker 1: produced it? You know, blah blah blah, is there tour?
- 17:08Speaker 1: Like all these things come to mind. So I feel
- 17:11Speaker 1: like that was twenty twenty five in a nutshell in
- 17:14Speaker 1: twenty twenty six.
- 17:16Speaker 2: Should be just as good.
- 17:18Speaker 1: Right, But let's get into the part of the show
- 17:21Speaker 1: where I like to give off a couple of my predictions,
- 17:26Speaker 1: you know, going into the new year. Some came true, right,
- 17:30Speaker 1: I believe one thousand percent. And this is before it
- 17:34Speaker 1: was announced that I said we were going to get
- 17:38Speaker 1: a Mob Deep album and we got it, okay, so
- 17:41Speaker 1: I was right. But I also said jay Z might
- 17:46Speaker 1: drop an album, and it kind of felt like he would.
- 17:52Speaker 1: But I feel like even now he should right somewhere
- 17:59Speaker 1: between the Diddy situation, what fifties trying to do when
- 18:05Speaker 1: that like kind of dies down or gets a little quiet,
- 18:08Speaker 1: a little too quiet, jay Z will drop and answer
- 18:14Speaker 1: everything right now? Is he telling the truth?
- 18:17Speaker 2: I don't know. I don't know.
- 18:20Speaker 1: Maybe you were at the Freakouts of Freakoffs whatever, but
- 18:23Speaker 1: you know what I mean. Like, I feel like with
- 18:27Speaker 1: jay Z's let's just say, last three albums, right, what
- 18:32Speaker 1: was that four point forty four.
- 18:37Speaker 2: Magna carta Holy Grail?
- 18:38Speaker 1: And maybe even on that jay ZN Beyonce album where
- 18:44Speaker 1: Beyonce was out rapping. Jay Z ain't gonna lie, he
- 18:48Speaker 1: probably wrote it. But I'm just saying, Beyonce sounds good
- 18:51Speaker 1: as a rapper. I wouldn't mind it, Okay, I'm just saying, Plus,
- 18:54Speaker 1: you'd be damn there rapping on the singing apples, but
- 18:57Speaker 1: you ain't hear it from me.
- 18:57Speaker 2: Huh, leave me alone. I don't want no static, I
- 19:01Speaker 2: want no smoke.
- 19:02Speaker 1: But I kind of feel like there's a lot for
- 19:06Speaker 1: jay Z to talk about, not just the Diddy situation,
- 19:09Speaker 1: but also just the state of hip hop hip hop
- 19:13Speaker 1: fifty and recently, which could be a hint. Rock Nations
- 19:20Speaker 1: Ig put out a post for this book called the
- 19:24Speaker 1: Book of Hove and I don't know if it's a
- 19:27Speaker 1: collector's item or something that came out before. I'm a
- 19:30Speaker 1: jay Z fan, I doubt I will own it. I'm sorry,
- 19:33Speaker 1: I'm not that big of a fan, okay. And plus
- 19:36Speaker 1: when they were going through the pages, I was there
- 19:38Speaker 1: for most of that, so none of that's like remarkable
- 19:41Speaker 1: to watch. I still feel like jay Z's still active, right,
- 19:44Speaker 1: That's when somebody retires, that's when you kind of reflect.
- 19:49Speaker 1: So I feel like we'll get something from jay Z
- 19:52Speaker 1: addressing super Bowl situation, Diddy situation, hip hop in general,
- 19:59Speaker 1: old guys coming back. I mean, you might as were
- 20:03Speaker 1: putting Nas on your project, Playboy, because Nas got seven albums,
- 20:07Speaker 1: doll drop seven albums in like what five years?
- 20:12Speaker 2: Crazy, So that's one thought.
- 20:15Speaker 1: The other one, it's not that big of a thought,
- 20:18Speaker 1: but I feel like Questlove and Black Thought were teasing
- 20:22Speaker 1: at one point a new Roots album, and I feel
- 20:25Speaker 1: like this is the same album they've been teasing forever,
- 20:29Speaker 1: but I don't know if there's any appetite for it.
- 20:33Speaker 2: I think they've teased a new Roots.
- 20:36Speaker 1: So much that once Black Thought did that freestyle and
- 20:40Speaker 1: started finally dropping solos, and a couple of those solos
- 20:45Speaker 1: was dope, especially the world with Danger Mouse called cheat Codes.
- 20:50Speaker 1: I feel like, who wants to hear roots album when
- 20:53Speaker 1: you can just get this? Because this is really what
- 20:55Speaker 1: you're gonna get. You know why? I hear Black Thought
- 20:58Speaker 1: on other stuff when we want this. Okay, So Danger
- 21:03Speaker 1: Mouse and Black Dought have already teased it. So cheat
- 21:06Speaker 1: Codes two is happening. I don't know when, but that
- 21:11Speaker 1: is definitely a highly anticipated album for myself, including the
- 21:15Speaker 1: jay Z if it happens, the return of j Cole
- 21:20Speaker 1: right the fall off, Remember we was getting everything he
- 21:23Speaker 1: was getting post that was like right up, like first
- 21:25Speaker 1: I'm gonna go to the store, then I'm come back
- 21:28Speaker 1: with your change, and then I'm gonna drop this single
- 21:31Speaker 1: and then album. None of it happened. And this was
- 21:36Speaker 1: like since twenty twenty four where that tease was happening,
- 21:38Speaker 1: None of it happened, right, you know why? We know why?
- 21:42Speaker 2: Right?
- 21:44Speaker 1: It was like he got out of that battle situation.
- 21:46Speaker 1: He said, hey man, I'm gonna take it on the
- 21:48Speaker 1: chin man. I don't want no smoke whatsoever. And fans said,
- 21:52Speaker 1: oh you all that top, King of the Top. I
- 21:55Speaker 1: wish it would like all that talk and this is
- 21:59Speaker 1: how you behave you put out that dud then you
- 22:02Speaker 1: take it off the mixtape, and the mixtape wasn't that bad,
- 22:05Speaker 1: to be honest, I liked it a lot, but he
- 22:08Speaker 1: kind of killed his own momentum. And then when he
- 22:10Speaker 1: would try to drop songs while people would jump on him,
- 22:15Speaker 1: especially songs that spoke to anything related to the battle anything.
- 22:21Speaker 1: I mean, he made a record essentially apologizing to Drake.
- 22:25Speaker 1: I guess because he apologized to Kendrick, so that he
- 22:27Speaker 1: made a song go apologize to Drake. I guess Drake
- 22:30Speaker 1: would pick up the phone some light skin energy. You
- 22:33Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, Like, come on, man, what you doing.
- 22:35Speaker 1: You ain't gotta apologize to him? Whatever.
- 22:38Speaker 2: That's the battle with man Seed, to be honest.
- 22:41Speaker 1: Light skin on, light skin crime, and hip hop Drake
- 22:45Speaker 1: versus Jaco. Drake would still lose, but Cole would be back.
- 22:50Speaker 1: I'm just saying, but I think this is the year.
- 22:55Speaker 1: I think this is the year because the last record
- 22:58Speaker 1: he dropped, which was twenty twenty five called Clouds, I
- 23:03Speaker 1: thought that was dope, and I thought that's the pocket
- 23:07Speaker 1: he should remain in, which is displaying your skill, having
- 23:13Speaker 1: something to say in general, to forget the battle, forget
- 23:16Speaker 1: what fans say or think about you just right and
- 23:20Speaker 1: be a MC and we know he's nice. It's just
- 23:23Speaker 1: we don't want to hear that. You know, I'm the
- 23:25Speaker 1: king of this.
- 23:25Speaker 2: You're not. You're not.
- 23:27Speaker 1: Okay, there's nothing wrong with just rapping. Rapping doesn't have
- 23:32Speaker 1: to always be braggadocious rap. We have a million rappers
- 23:37Speaker 1: that do that. That's like the first thing you do
- 23:39Speaker 1: as a rapper. And then if you want to be
- 23:43Speaker 1: an artist or MC, you are really more so like
- 23:48Speaker 1: an artist.
- 23:50Speaker 2: You're right about other things.
- 23:51Speaker 1: And we know he's absolutely capable of it because he's
- 23:53Speaker 1: done it in the past. And keep the title because
- 23:56Speaker 1: now the fall off means something totally different, you know
- 24:00Speaker 1: what I'm saying. And Kendrick need to be featured on
- 24:04Speaker 1: the album. That's how you neutralize it. On the song
- 24:06Speaker 1: to fall off, they should just battle each other on
- 24:09Speaker 1: the song, you know, not like a real battle, but
- 24:12Speaker 1: talk about their feelings, right, mister Morale, When you did this,
- 24:18Speaker 1: blah blah blah blah, cold world, Yo, when you did
- 24:21Speaker 1: this and I felt like blah blah blah, And then
- 24:24Speaker 1: just switch the beat some crazy and they just get
- 24:27Speaker 1: busy and everybody would just.
- 24:29Speaker 2: Group hug and say, Drake, you're from Canada, we over here.
- 24:36Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 24:36Speaker 1: That battle made it difficult for me to listen to
- 24:39Speaker 1: like my best to Drake mix, Like every time I
- 24:41Speaker 1: listen to it, I'd be like, man, shut up, and
- 24:44Speaker 1: I love those songs.
- 24:45Speaker 2: But that's what happens.
- 24:48Speaker 1: Another sort of prediction, but just something I would like
- 24:53Speaker 1: to see. Why not have another massive peal legend has
- 24:56Speaker 1: its series of albums dropped now? Granted this could be
- 25:01Speaker 1: something more for twenty twenty seven, because I don't know,
- 25:07Speaker 1: and I haven't watched interviews about it, but I don't
- 25:10Speaker 1: know if this original rollout was like years in the
- 25:14Speaker 1: making or was it you know, Ray Kwon and Ghosts
- 25:18Speaker 1: and Daylight, like they had albums and it made it
- 25:24Speaker 1: easier because they would go listen, you know, master pipl right,
- 25:27Speaker 1: listen to the albums like yo, we should do this
- 25:29Speaker 1: and roll out blah blah blah. So they would have
- 25:34Speaker 1: or at least mass appeal and non specifically would have
- 25:37Speaker 1: been had to have been working on this, you know,
- 25:40Speaker 1: in advance to me to get a twenty twenty six drop.
- 25:46Speaker 1: But there's a number of people who I would love
- 25:49Speaker 1: to be a part of it. At the top of
- 25:51Speaker 1: the top of my list. It's scarface a no brainer.
- 25:55Speaker 1: Is cool g rap because of the connection with Nas,
- 25:59Speaker 1: but also little Kim and I believe I said on
- 26:02Speaker 1: my Legend Hasard episode Lauren Hill. Now I said it
- 26:09Speaker 1: weeks ago, but as a hip hop head, why not.
- 26:16Speaker 1: I think NAS's Nas may be the one to get
- 26:19Speaker 1: that to happen. Who knows, and the last one before
- 26:24Speaker 1: I get into a couple of little throwaways here and there.
- 26:27Speaker 1: But Varro Manch Varro Manch has been working on a
- 26:31Speaker 1: follow up to his solo debut, Internal Affairs. The new
- 26:37Speaker 1: title is External Affairs. Obviously, Varrol Manch has had a
- 26:42Speaker 1: number of albums in between them, but to make a
- 26:46Speaker 1: sequel to that album means that this will probably be
- 26:51Speaker 1: a very different album from what you've heard from him
- 26:55Speaker 1: in recent years, which I'm expecting nothing but dopeness and
- 27:00Speaker 1: I have nothing but patience. But I definitely wanted to
- 27:04Speaker 1: drop in twenty twenty six. A couple of other obvious
- 27:07Speaker 1: ones that I've said, you know, time and time again,
- 27:10Speaker 1: like p Rock and Comment, Auditorium Volume Too. They put it,
- 27:15Speaker 1: you know, they put a year between that original release,
- 27:19Speaker 1: and I'm cool with that. Also, you know, I think
- 27:24Speaker 1: in general, I would just like to see Bars matter,
- 27:29Speaker 1: and it's not necessarily about just old school people because
- 27:33Speaker 1: obviously it's for except for j Cole for the most part,
- 27:36Speaker 1: but I guess he's old school too. Everybody I named
- 27:40Speaker 1: it from a certain era, but I would prefer it
- 27:46Speaker 1: just to be about Bars going forward. Like so the
- 27:50Speaker 1: guys I like who are newer right, whether they're underground
- 27:54Speaker 1: or mainstream. I would like to see more people put
- 27:59Speaker 1: some care into their albums because I think one thing
- 28:02Speaker 1: that was proven in twenty twenty five, especially with the
- 28:06Speaker 1: Old School leading the way, was that if you make
- 28:11Speaker 1: a good album, people will listen to it. People it
- 28:14Speaker 1: won't just be let me grab the songs I like,
- 28:17Speaker 1: because they will probably like the entire project and not
- 28:21Speaker 1: want to listen to it. Outside of that, and I'm
- 28:24Speaker 1: talking about hip hop heads. If you casual and Ace
- 28:27Speaker 1: Trumpets was your joint from the Clips and you put
- 28:30Speaker 1: it on your playlist and you moved on, congratulations, you
- 28:35Speaker 1: are not a hip hop head. It's just not There's
- 28:37Speaker 1: no way you could have listened to that whole album.
- 28:40Speaker 1: If you're a fan of the Clips and just said
- 28:43Speaker 1: to yourself this is the only good one, and I'm
- 28:46Speaker 1: going off to put these bad bunny songs on this
- 28:48Speaker 1: playlist next. You just I appreciate you being here, but
- 28:53Speaker 1: you know, step your game up, you know, don't worry.
- 28:57Speaker 1: There's plenty of people on the internet breaking it down
- 28:59Speaker 1: and they myself and others.
- 29:01Speaker 2: So there you have it.
- 29:04Speaker 1: Twenty twenty six preview. What are you expecting in twenty
- 29:08Speaker 1: twenty six? Are there artists who you want to hear
- 29:12Speaker 1: albums from in twenty twenty six, whether it's old school
- 29:15Speaker 1: or new school, cats, somebody who hasn't dropped an album yet,
- 29:19Speaker 1: but you know, maybe they're freestylers circulating across the internet
- 29:24Speaker 1: and you can't wait for them to actually put out
- 29:26Speaker 1: a projects.
