- 0:00As God intended.
- 0:02Let's go.
- 0:20Hello, hello, and welcome to Looking for Healing Radio on the America Out Loud Talk Radio Network.
- 0:26I am your favorite host, Elizabeth Joseph, functional practitioner, certified holistic nutrition specialist and colon hydrotherapist and instructor.
- 0:36And it is here.
- 0:38Can you believe it?
- 0:39December is here.
- 0:43You know what that means.
- 0:45The holidays.
- 0:46Granted, I know last week was Thanksgiving.
- 0:51So hopefully you know that all the shows go to podcasts the next day.
- 0:55So in case you missed it, just go wherever you get your podcast.
- 0:59You can hear them on Spotify Stitcher, wherever you get them, you can go and re-listen to that episode.
- 1:08But this happens every year, doesn't it?
- 1:12Every year, right?
- 1:14Uh holidays, the wrecking the guts, bloated, inflamed, exhausted, constipated, craving sugar, gaining weight.
- 1:25Even if you didn't eat as much as usual, or you didn't eat much more than usual, if you don't feel like you overeat, there's lots of um tools that I see people trying to use.
- 1:40Um work, some don't.
- 1:42Yeah, I really, again, I'm I'm always solution focused.
- 1:46So I really want to give y'all some real solutions that work.
- 1:50I really want to break down, you know, why the microbiome is gonna take a massive hit.
- 1:57Why holiday bloat is not the same as body fat, why nerves, stress and travel shut down the gut.
- 2:04And if you've listened to this show before, you might already know some of this, but maybe not.
- 2:10But sugar and alcohol, oh my goodness, how that creates inflammation for weeks.
- 2:16And I got news for you.
- 2:18Don't shoot the messenger on this one, but gluten, it's even longer, it's even longer.
- 2:25These meat-heavy holiday meals are really gonna clog the system along with all the other heavy foods that we eat, right?
- 2:32Colonics, sauna, and float therapy are gonna work especially well together this time of year for you.
- 2:40And I want to give you again real solutions to reset in January, or hopefully, you know, not just as a temporary um, you know, temporary goal here, right?
- 3:00With our New Year's resolutions, you know, but without punishment, without dieting, without extremes.
- 3:07All right.
- 3:08So here's the truth, right?
- 3:13This holiday damage is really 80% physiology.
- 3:19It's not a willpower thing.
- 3:22You are not failing.
- 3:24Your body is reacting exactly how a human body reacts under these conditions.
- 3:31Let's break this down.
- 3:34Well, first of all, we're going to be overeating, right?
- 3:41In general, we are definitely going to be overeating.
- 3:47Um, you know, holiday parties, we're getting together with family, right?
- 3:53So that's already an issue on its own, which is just the fact that we overeat.
- 4:00Okay.
- 4:01But now we're not just overeating, you know, healthy foods.
- 4:08It's usually gonna really be heavy on the meat, cheese dishes, eggs, butter, cream, all that heavy rich stuff, right?
- 4:18Pastries, breads, pies, cakes, added sugar everywhere.
- 4:27Very little fiber, very little raw grains.
- 4:30Now, if you're you're a black family from the south, you might have some uh collard greens on your menu.
- 4:39All right.
- 4:39Now I grew up different, you know.
- 4:41I'm always talking to my uh black friends about this, you know, that I didn't grow up with the traditional um southern food, uh traditional, you know, black food, black American food.
- 4:53I I grew up very differently, my dad being from the Caribbean, so we definitely still had heavy meals, but I didn't have collard greens until oh my god.
- 5:05Third, third over 30.
- 5:07Like I think in my 30s was the first time I actually had it, believe it or not.
- 5:11But if you have seen collared greens, this dish, um, it's cooked brown, and this definitely is a Caribbean thing as well.
- 5:20My dad, all his greens were cooked, where they're you know, they're falling apart, they're tender, and it's not that there's no nutrition in it, but you're getting very little of it.
- 5:33Um, it's gonna be dehydrating.
- 5:35I mean, think about how a beautiful piece of collard or kale or bok choy, whatever greens you're you're using.
- 5:43Think of how beautiful and vibrant it looks when you first get it, and then when you cook it, it just gets brown the more you cook it, and that's definitely the types of greens that you know I I grew up with.
- 5:53And that's if you're having any greens on the menu, not only are they cooked typically with ham hock or pork, some type of meat, they're also cooked, cooked today, cooked today.
- 6:06They they are brown.
- 6:07They're they're I mean, there's just very little nutrition in there.
- 6:12So we're getting very little fiber, very little hydration.
- 6:16Don't typically see a salad on these holiday menus, right?
- 6:21And then that's on top of you know, the late nights, the disrupted schedule, right?
- 6:27I mean, this is such uh a uh a recipe for disaster, really.
- 6:33I mean, it's it's really this combination is like the best way to shut the gut down, you know.
- 6:38And then we talk about just sugar on its own, right?
- 6:43The sugar in all of the you know, pastries and desserts.
- 6:49It's gonna feed yeast, harmful bacteria, pro-inflammatory species.
- 6:56Uh, you'll feel it as gas, bloating, puffiness, swelling, uh, cravings, uh, brain fog, irritability, suppressed immune system.
- 7:08It's also addictive.
- 7:10Um, remember, sugar has no health benefits, added sugar, not talking about fruit sugar.
- 7:17That's different.
- 7:19All right, that is completely different.
- 7:21Um, but added sugar, cane sugar, white sugar, brown sugar.
- 7:28These are inflammatory, they're more addictive than cocaine.
- 7:33They suppress the immune system, and they light up the dopamine receptors in your gut, like a pinball machine.
- 7:44Um, I mean, it's they're no good.
- 7:48It's no good.
- 7:49You know, I really watch sugar um a lot again.
- 7:52You know, my basis, um, one of the first areas I studied, rather, is actually um was blood sugar management.
- 8:01It was diabetes.
- 8:03So I have a very strong knowledge, base of knowledge there.
- 8:09Uh, so I'm pretty big on looking for you know sugar-free alternatives.
- 8:13Um, you know, I make sure our marinara sauce is sugar-free.
- 8:17I even have a sugar-free ketchup.
- 8:19Um, you know, I've just constantly looking because hidden sugar is is found in a lot of places.
- 8:26So anywhere I can take that out, you know, that way you can be more aware of, you know, desserts that you are having and more aware of really your total sugar consumption versus oh, your yogurt in the morning has it, your cereal, your bread, your ketchup, your condiments, your barbecue, you know, and it just kind of adds up, right?
- 8:46Sugar is already gonna fuel the imbalanced microbes, right?
- 8:49Candida, all of that stuff, right?
- 8:51It just makes everything worse.
- 8:53Parasites, you name it, right?
- 8:56And then what about um what's the other thing that we're all doing?
- 9:00What is it?
- 9:00Oh, yeah, we're drinking, we're drinking, guys.
- 9:05We are drinking alcohol, dude.
- 9:10Most of us.
- 9:12Alcohol is super super toxic, guys.
- 9:18Um, and again, don't shoot the messenger here.
- 9:20I am not here to make you feel guilty, but information is everything.
- 9:24And don't worry, I'm gonna give you some ways to mitigate this damage.
- 9:29Um, I have a nice little concoction that I recommend for my drinkers, all right?
- 9:35Because I was there.
- 9:37I drank the drugs all through my 20s.
- 9:40So I I was totally there.
- 9:43Um, I understand it.
- 9:45And there was a period of my life where the drinking and the um my drinking and my cleansing kind of overlapped.
- 9:55So I got got pretty good at like beating a hangover.
- 9:59Um, so if you do.
- 10:00This it will work.
- 10:02But the one thing I will say, and I'm gonna get to that at the end of the show.
- 10:05But the one thing I will say is you have to consider the amount that you're drinking, and then you have to increase these tools that I'm giving you accordingly.
- 10:14Okay, so just kind of keep that in mind.
- 10:17Um, but alcohol is antibacterial, and that sounds kind of nice, but what that means is that it's killing off all the beneficial bugs in your gut.
- 10:27All right, it's gonna feed candida, it's gonna feed yeast, it's dehydrating, it's irritating to the gut lining, it's connected to leaky gut, it's super damaging to the liver and detoxification pathways, it's inflammatory, and I know in the holistic and functional world, I feel like that word uh toxic.
- 10:48I feel like it gets thrown around a lot.
- 10:51And I don't know about you, but I feel like because of that, it has really lost some of its meaning.
- 11:00I feel like we kind of hear it so much.
- 11:02It's like everything's toxic, it's toxic, it's toxic.
- 11:04But the truth is is some of this stuff really truly is toxic and fatal long term, but toxic.
- 11:14And I'll give you proof of alcohol.
- 11:17I was a bartender for years.
- 11:18I don't know if y'all know that.
- 11:20Again, I've worked in restaurant industry for um almost two decades, okay?
- 11:23So very long time.
- 11:25Now, anyone who's worked in a restaurant um or served alcohol, you have to take what?
- 11:32You have to take a alcohol education class and alcohol certification class.
- 11:38And what does this do?
- 11:40Well, they teach you how alcohol is metabolized and how to, you know, gauge if someone's too drunk, how and when to cut them off, etc.
- 11:48Right.
- 11:49But what's so crazy about alcohol?
- 11:52That something that we drink that's totally legal.
- 11:55If you drink too much, what happens?
- 11:57You die, you die.
- 11:59I mean, literally, it can kill you.
- 12:01I mean, that's kind of crazy.
- 12:03Don't you think?
- 12:05Isn't that nuts?
- 12:06And we're just like, oh, no problem.
- 12:09We're it's no big deal.
- 12:11I mean, that's crazy.
- 12:12Think about that.
- 12:14That's nuts.
- 12:16So again, keep that in mind, right?
- 12:20One holiday weekend might decrease your microbial diversity for two to four weeks.
- 12:28I mean, that's think about that.
- 12:30Again, I want to give you some solutions to try to mitigate that damage.
- 12:35Um, if you use them, right?
- 12:37But this is why you feel the skin flare up, your eczema flare up, your psoriasis, your increase in gas and bloating, your energy crashes, you're constipated, you're getting headaches, you have more anxiety, right?
- 12:51Not to mention dealing with our family, right?
- 12:55That's that's anxiety on its own.
- 12:58And then we pair that with like, you know, this most inflammatory food.
- 13:04We're up late, right?
- 13:06We're doing late nights later than we normally would.
- 13:08So we're getting poor sleep, and then it's just like more cravings.
- 13:11I mean, it's just this worst possible combination, right?
- 13:14Alcohol and sugar, you combine it with all of this other stuff.
- 13:18I mean, it's just it's a problem, right?
- 13:22I mean, most of these holiday meals are fiberless too, right?
- 13:26We talk a lot about fiber.
- 13:28I it cannot be overstated.
- 13:32It is so crucial and important that we're getting fiber.
- 13:39I can't tell you how many of my clients are like, well, I eat healthy, I don't know what's going on.
- 13:44And there's like meat, dairy, and eggs in every meal.
- 13:47If you're doing that three times a day, you're gonna have some dysbiosis, even if you're having that with vegetables every day, even if you're dairy and gluten-free.
- 13:57I've seen it, I've seen it.
- 13:59I can test your gut, I can test your poop, I can prove it to you.
- 14:04So you gotta have more fiber, right?
- 14:07You gotta have more fiber.
- 14:08No fiber means no books bulk stool, means no motility, and no microbial food.
- 14:15The fiber feeds your microbes, guys.
- 14:18Dairy's gonna thicken and increase your mucus, not the good kind, by the way.
- 14:23Slow the gut down and contribute to this like holiday congestion that we experience, right?
- 14:30Meat is already gonna take two to four days to digest.
- 14:36It's not gonna digest even worse when the body's under more stress and dehydrated, right?
- 14:43So the alcohol, don't forget that's dehydrating as well.
- 14:47Eggs are gonna feed bacteria associated with TMAO production, inflammation, and constipation.
- 14:55So, so the result.
- 14:58Well, now we're stagnant.
- 15:02Now we've got toxic fermentation.
- 15:04Now we've got gas, float, pressure, heaviness, toxic load.
- 15:11This is when people think, like, God, I must have gained five pounds overnight.
- 15:14I had uh one of the girls who worked for me, and I remember she was like, I love eggs, but she's like, I feel so poofy and inflamed when I eat.
- 15:24She's like, and it's not my weight hasn't gone up, but my clothes are tight.
- 15:28So interesting, right?
- 15:31So it's not that you gain five pounds overnight, but it could be that you retained water or that you're inflamed, or that you're carrying three to five days of backed up poop.
- 15:40You gotta remember.
- 15:43You should be pooping one meal a day.
- 15:46Excuse me, you should be pooping for every meal you eat, right?
- 15:49So if you're eating one meal a day, you should be having one bowel movement a day.
- 15:53If you're eating three meals a day, you should be having three bowel movements a day.
- 15:57So I'm just gonna take a general rule.
- 15:59So let's just say you eat three times a day and you're pooping once a day.
- 16:04Yay, you're pooping.
- 16:05Listen, that's great.
- 16:07You are absolutely better than the general public, statistically speaking, 100%.
- 16:13However, let's do the math.
- 16:16That means at the end of a week, there's 14 extra bowel movements in your gut.
- 16:2214, y'all.
- 16:24Yeah, yeah, that's right.
- 16:25That's that math.
- 16:27So motility, fiber, water, stress relief, all of these things are super important and gonna affect your bowels, your motility, the fermentation, your toxic overload.
- 16:43It's all connected.
- 16:46And there is a way to beat this holiday toxicity.
- 16:50We're gonna continue talking about that when we come back after this super quick break.
- 16:55You're listening to looking for healing radio on the America Out Loud Talk Radio Network, and I am your favorite host, Elizabeth Joseph, colon hydrotherapist, functional practitioner, certified holistic nutrition specialist, and microbiome certified.

- 19:01Many voices, one freedom.
- 19:04You're not in the first amendment.
- 19:09Now is our time, my fellow Americans.
- 19:13America outloud dot news, liberty and justice for all.
- 19:30And it is the holidays, holiday season.
- 19:36Whatever you celebrate.
- 19:37Hanukkah, Christmas Kanza, we do Kans at my house.
- 19:41Um, and forgive my ignorance because I'm sure that there are also some other holidays around the world.
- 19:47But let's be honest, most Americans are overeating.
- 19:52We're inflamed, we're tired, we're groggy, we're toxic, we're hungover, right?
- 19:58So what about the
- 20:02Other part.
- 20:04How else is this affecting us, right?
- 20:07Well, the holidays typically for most people.
- 20:11And this is, I would say, you know, all over, not just necessarily in America.
- 20:17They're gonna involve, you know, time with family.
- 20:20So travel or long drives, um, airport travel, um, staying up extra late, uh, disrupted sleep, family triggers, right?
- 20:33Maybe even just the idea of like being on socially, which might lead to that emotional overeating, or even like overextending and like compromising your own boundaries, uh, maybe even a little extra caffeine to compensate, right?
- 20:49This is this is gonna raise your cortisol, right?
- 20:53This is the travel, the stress, this is gonna disrupt your circadian rhythm, right?
- 20:58This is gonna slow down your digestion.
- 21:01It's gonna actually increase your blood sugar, right?
- 21:07It's going to reduce your stomach acid.
- 21:10It's going to slow down motility, it increases visceral flat fat.
- 21:16Uh, it's gonna cause sugar cravings.
- 21:19All of this is gonna disrupt your sleep and lower your immune system.
- 21:23So it's not necessarily a willpower thing.
- 21:26It's really like the physiology of what is happening in your body.
- 21:32And this is why we have this show on looking for healing radio on the America Out Loud Talk Radio Network, because for me, the information is power.
- 21:41It's not a shame, it's not a judgment, but these are facts.
- 21:46This is what happens.
- 21:48So I just want you to have all the information.
- 21:52So one, you know what to do.
- 21:54You know what to do in your body, or how to mitigate this, or at least what's happening and what you're feeling inside your body, right?
- 22:02And inside your head, your your heart, your soul, your spirit, right?
- 22:07We want you to really, you know, be empowered.
- 22:15That's that's really what I want for all of you.
- 22:18I want you to be empowered so that you can know what to do so that you're not confused.
- 22:26I think I think that's the worst part for me.
- 22:30And I see that honestly, with a lot of people, is just that you you're just like you feel crappy and then you don't know what's going on.
- 22:43Like, I don't know what's happening.
- 22:45Like that that sucks.
- 22:46I think that feeling to me is is even worse.
- 22:50I, you know, you might still feel crappy.
- 22:52You might still make similar choices, hopefully improved, but I don't want you to be confused of what's happening, right?
- 23:00We want you to understand why, and like maybe there is maybe there is a little prevention that we can sprinkle in this holiday season, you know.
- 23:08So, what about this bloating after the holidays?
- 23:11All right.
- 23:12So this is not always fat.
- 23:15You know, I think a lot of us are just like, oh yeah, I'm gaining all this weight.
- 23:20You know, you can that that can happen.
- 23:24But I would say typically it's not waking.
- 23:27Typically, it's inflammation, backed up poop, gut fermentation, lymph stagnation, and again, that hormonal dysregulation, which can lead to a little bit of increase in visceral fat, as we talked about with when your cortisol is really elevated, right?
- 23:44That lack of illumination and disrupted microbiome.
- 23:47But really, we're generally, I mean, we're really talking about a couple of things here.
- 23:52You know, inflammation is gonna be the big one.
- 23:56And then being backed up, right?
- 24:00It's clogged.
- 24:03I mean, typically one or two colonics will show people this wasn't necessarily body fat.
- 24:08People will lose weight sometimes or feel I feel lighter, I feel 10 pounds lighter.
- 24:13It's because it was waste, right?
- 24:15It's just waste and toxicity leaving the body, right?
- 24:19It's not always necessarily fat.
- 24:26The caveats any of this stuff is you gotta do it.
- 24:30You gotta go get the colonic, you gotta go do the float, you gotta take the supplements, you gotta do it, right?
- 24:36So why do you feel like, you know, here's the other thing too, right?
- 24:42We hear this like flu season, but think about it.
- 24:45Why this immune system is crashing, not because of the flu season, because we're getting less sunlight, so that's vitamin D, that's immune system, right?
- 24:56But 80 to 90% remember of the immune system is in your gut, guys.
- 25:08It's in your gut.
- 25:10So you have to understand that when your microbiome is disrupted in this way with what we're eating and the stress and the travel, that's your immune system.
- 25:24It's also being suppressed.
- 25:26This is why people get sick after travel or after big meals, not because you're exposed to more germs, because your defenses went offline.
- 25:39Same thing with with just everything else with the cortisol and the stress, right?
- 25:44That that's gonna also suppress your immune system.
- 25:50Right?
- 25:51These are the hidden pieces that we don't really think about.
- 25:55You know, the the belly fat, the cravings, the adrenal shutdown, right?
- 26:04When your cortisol rises, remember that's gonna disrupt your sleep, right?
- 26:10So travel is gonna happen with that, family interactions that trigger old patterns, the sugar and the alcohol, it's gonna affect your blood sugar, all of these things that we've talked about.
- 26:23The staying up late, the dehydration, this is all gonna cause insulin issues, drive cravings, increase belly flat, regardless of your calorie intake.
- 26:37This is why, you know, there's a lot of people dieting, and they look for these quick fixes, and and you will get some quick results with some of these diets, a carnivore keto, but what's happening long-term, unfortunately, is that they really are destroying the microbiome even further, right?
- 27:02Now I know we kind of already talked about alcohol as well.
- 27:06Um, but I again I just can't overstate how toxic it is for us.
- 27:11Um, really, really jacks up the liver.
- 27:14You've got to understand that the liver is really important, not just for detoxification, but it supports digestion and blood sugar and hormone regulation, your hormones, men, women, ladies.
- 27:29That's your perimenopause symptoms, your low libido, men or women.
- 27:34This is all related to your hormones.
- 27:37So when we have alcohol and sugar that are flooding the system, this is on top of the poor diet, right?
- 27:49The uh stress, I mean, that the the travel, the staying up late, right?
- 27:56That's causing, you have to understand, that's causing hormonal imbalances on its own, y'all.
- 28:04Already on its own, those things are happening.
- 28:08And then we're coupling that with just the worst, heaviest, most inflammatory food that we can possibly eat.
- 28:15And then we're drinking on top of it because it's stressful to be with our family.
- 28:19Let's be honest.
- 28:21You can't choose them, right?
- 28:24But we love them.
- 28:25We love them.
- 28:27That doesn't mean it's not stressful or triggering or even traumatizing for some of us, honestly.
- 28:33I mean, for some of us, this might really be some real trauma coming back up, you know, or new trauma.
- 28:40Who knows?
- 28:40I don't know, you know, I don't, I don't do the big holidays.
- 28:43I don't have a big extended family.
- 28:45Um, and I love my dad, he's great, but he's an insane person.
- 28:51Oh my God, right?
- 28:53But I've heard stories, you know, people have really dysfunctional families, they're getting into fights.
- 28:58You know, it can really be a thing, you know.
- 29:00Um we live for it.
- 29:03So, you know, we're we're self-medicating, you know.
- 29:06I don't know that we've found the balance for this, right?
- 29:09If we've really found the balance of just like, okay, well, you know, what do you know?
- 29:15We want to spend time with them through our family, you know, maybe maybe it's an obligation.
- 29:19Um, but most of us were we're succumbing to that.
- 29:24We're succumbing to that obligation, and you know, we're doing it.
- 29:29Um, but again, when when you combine all of this stuff, it's gonna again back up your your detox pathways, right?
- 29:39Um, the inflammation we already talked about, you know, just all of these symptoms, right?
- 29:44But what's happening behind the scenes that you may or may not even see again is the hormones, right?
- 29:50Your detoxification pathways.
- 29:52Think about if they're already backed up.
- 29:54Think if you already have like mold or metals in your system.
- 29:57I got news for you.
- 29:58If you have breast implants, you're you're
- 30:00liver is already on toxic uh overload if you have root canals your gut is is compromised which is gonna affect your liver which is gonna affect even your melatonin your ability to sleep all of these things are connected right your lymphatic system all of these are connected right your lymphatic system is is even gonna really kind of take a hit during this holiday time right about it what are we doing when we're when we're you know during this season right parties we're sitting down for hours maybe playing board games we're sitting more we're traveling we're eating more of the inflammatory food more salts more fat we're drinking alcohol or dehydrated we're getting less movement we're thrown off from our regular routine I would say that that's a big one right that's gonna really make your lymphatic system stagnant as well which which again can contribute to a lot of these symptoms that you might feel after and if you're feeling them now then again it's like we're just pouring fuel on the fire here right I mean evaluate now right now why don't you pause I want you to close your eyes or I invite you to rather I invite you to close your eyes take a inventory of how you really feel your toes your knees your calves breathe into these spaces do you feel bloat anywhere any puffiness any pressure any congestion anywhere brain fog um any fatigue or tiredness uh circulation issues any stuck energy anywhere good I hope you did that with me what did you feel now is this how you always feel that's the next question because most of us are just moving through life just day to day right we're just kind of going through the motions we're just kind of make it through life life is hard is hard right it is hard so imagine you already have these toxins or mold or metals or implants or root canals or mercury fillings and if you have all of these oh God bless I tested a guy the other day and uh he had the highest mold results I've ever seen ever um man it was crazy the the I'm trying to remember the strain it was less than it was supposed to be less than 200 was the reference range and he was almost at 3000 and he's been feeling really crappy and doing this detox thing but my guess is he's probably in a moldy home so my point in bringing all of this up is that again we're adding fuel to the fire most of us are already fiber deficient mineral deficient dehydrated overstressed and then we kind of add this on to it right this uh travel extra travel the staying up late eating more inflammatory foods even than we already eat over eating them uh you know the family the triggers all of that the drama right it's it's a recipe for disaster it's a recipe for disaster y'all I mean it is no joke the microbes are out of balance right when the microbes are disrupted they're gonna start signaling to the brain it's not you it's not you y'all it's the parasites that's why they're craving sugar and fat dairy and alcohol but we can we can restore the gut all right so typically here's what's gonna happen internally all right after the holidays and again because it's back to back right it's like we have you know Thanksgiving in uh November right and then I don't know about you but in in December in general you just see a lot of holiday travel holiday gatherings parties and I would say this is for our younger and our family people um even when I was you know single and in my 20s you know we're going out there's lots of bar parties or DJ parties that are late karaoke whatever you you name it right so it's like all around we're just compromised right and so then we have the actual holiday and then what's after that new year's new year's it's a big if that ain't a drinking holiday I don't know what is I don't know what is uh I don't even think we celebrated last year.
- 35:07I mean we kind of did but I think we were in bed by like 10 o'clock that's so lame it's just so funny how my life has changed it just cracks me up every time I think about it but so let's get back to these internal shifts that's happening that you necessarily can't see again sometimes we might have symptoms but even if you don't it doesn't mean these things are not affecting you that's a really big misconception I hear a lot of people listen to your body and listen to your body's great I'm not discouraging you from listening to your body but you have to understand that just because you don't have symptoms doesn't mean it's not affecting you internally that's not what that means just because you have a reaction doesn't mean that thing is bad for you perfect example cruciferous you haven't a reaction in cruciferous does not mean that that is bad for you that means your gut is damaged.
- 35:58We'll get into that a little bit later all right so in December or better yet let's call it the first week of January after all of this right we're hung over after New Year's right what what's happening internally that you can't see is these certain um species of beneficial commensal bacteria we call them acromensia drops bacteroides shift your short chain fatty acid production is going to plummet that's your you know um anti-inflammatory and antioxidants your inflammation is going to increase the diversity drops fiber fermenting microbes starve that's you need that stuff alcohol resistant species grow and your protective mucous layer thins this is gonna lead to all of these symptoms that we are feeling the constipation the heaviness the poor sleep the good news is that the microbiome responds pretty fast to correction within about seven days of proper diet and hydration you're actually going to begin repairing I want to give you tools that I've used and tested with my clients and myself on how to mitigate some of this holiday damage and still enjoy yourself all right we're gonna be right back after this quick break from our sponsors please do not forget to take a look at the America out loud shop at AmericaOut Loud dot shop I'm your favorite host Elizabeth and we'll be right back.

- 40:00That's just fear-mongering.
- 40:01It's just like, this is what's wrong with the world.
- 40:02This is what's wrong.
- 40:03Like the truth is you have so much control, guys.
- 40:06There's so much that you can do.
- 40:08Okay.
- 40:09Um, especially, you know, with these holidays.
- 40:12All right.
- 40:12I mean, really, really and truly, there's so much practical, usable things that you can do.
- 40:20All right.
- 40:22So let's start with with what to do after, right?
- 40:27And then I want to give you some some solutions for during as well, like during these holiday times, during the parties, the family gatherings, the big meals, uh, or again, uh, you know, the bar parties, the DJ parties, whatever it is.
- 40:46First, colonics.
- 40:48And this is for my drinkers and my not drinkers.
- 40:52They're just so effective, y'all.
- 40:54It's gonna clear this excess waste, some gas pockets, um, a lot of the inflammatory byproducts, bile sludge, the nasty mucus, not the good kind, right?
- 41:07Just that even stagnant energy.
- 41:09Um, I mean, I have people have emotional releases more than you would think, just from their colonic.
- 41:17Just from their colonic.
- 41:19Right.
- 41:20I always, you know, hear people like, oh, I had no idea there was so much inside of me, right?
- 41:26But you got to keep in mind, one colonic is probably not gonna be enough.
- 41:32And I I really am cannot stress this enough.
- 41:37I see a lot of people coming in and just kind of getting one colonic.
- 41:41You really want to do, I would honestly recommend if you're eating, let's okay, let's back up.
- 41:47It depends on what you're eating, right?
- 41:49How consistent are you gonna be with these tools and tips and tricks?
- 41:53How are you gonna just eat whatever and try to mitigate the damage after, or are you really gonna, you know, make an effort to stay consistent with your health through the holidays, right?
- 42:02Um, again, there's not a right or wrong, but for me, there's just some non-negotiables.
- 42:07If I'm going to a party, I'm not gonna have dairy.
- 42:10That's just a non-negotiable for me.
- 42:11I'm not gonna do gluten.
- 42:12That's a non-negotiable.
- 42:14I might have a bite, but I definitely wouldn't have a plate of it, right?
- 42:17If my partner has some, I might have a bite of his, but I'll never have like a full portion deliberately.
- 42:23It's just not gonna happen.
- 42:24So if you're still consuming lots of meat, dairy, eggs, gluten, you know what I mean, just all the heavy stuff, and you're not using any of my tips that I'm gonna go over here in a minute, then I would recommend a minimum of five to seven colonics within a week's period.
- 42:41A minimum.
- 42:43Uh I mean, if you really can't do that, maybe three in a row might be okay, but you have to understand Thanksgiving just passed, guys.
- 42:52Um, I was fully booked on that Friday and Saturday after.
- 42:57And almost, I want to say, God, I want to say 100% of my clients celebrated.
- 43:03And you know, we were joking about it, you know.
- 43:05Again, no shame or judgment.
- 43:06It is what it is.
- 43:07They know what they did.
- 43:08A lot of my clients are fairly conscious anyway, right?
- 43:10So they're coming in like, oh yeah, I feel inflamed and I need this, you know, they know what's up.
- 43:16And um, you know, I didn't expect to see much from any of them.
- 43:19I'm gonna be honest with you, and that's exactly what happened because the matter is so dry and hard inside.
- 43:24We'll see some chunky matter.
- 43:26We will um, you know, see some discoloration and some flakes.
- 43:29But the truth is is that every single one of them needed to come back at the very least the next day, but really probably again after that, because we're just barely kind of getting things hydrated and soft that first day.
- 43:42We're not gonna see much movement.
- 43:44The second day we're gonna get it even more hydrated.
- 43:46That third day, we're really gonna start to see some movement and get a lot of the matter out.
- 43:51Um, you know, the backed up stuff that's that's stuck in there, you know what I mean?
- 43:56So again, getting one colonic is okay, um, but you're likely gonna need more than that, right?
- 44:03Um, but my favorite, my favorite combo, you know, just in terms of overall holiday repair or you know, backtracking, is really gonna be, you know, like a float sauna massage combo, you know, again with the colonics, right?
- 44:21Um the float therapy, again, is gonna proven to reduce cortisol by um, you know, 25% and sometimes even up to 40.
- 44:30Um, it's gonna activate that parasympathetic nervous system, right?
- 44:34It's gonna improve, boost your immune system um indirectly because it's calming the nervous system, right?
- 44:40It's really gonna reset the physiology of your stress, and it'll improve your gut motility.
- 44:46Again, this is indirectly, simply because it's calming your nervous system all the way down, right?
- 44:53And I would say, again, one float might be okay, especially if you float often, but it might be very common.
- 45:01You you might need three.
- 45:02You might want to do three in like a week.
- 45:05Now, the sauna is just gonna help you detox from all of that stuff, right?
- 45:11It's gonna improve your circulation, reduce inflammation.
- 45:14The floating is also gonna help reduce inflammation as well.
- 45:16So don't forget about that.
- 45:23The sun is also gonna, you know, again, mobilize the toxins, boost immune function.
- 45:29And the massage, while it's very calming, and it's gonna definitely help reduce that like just stiffness, you know, sometimes that you get from the holidays.
- 45:37It also is is not just enjoyable and a nice relaxing therapy.
- 45:43I really, it's it's it can be medicinal.
- 45:46It's not just gonna relax the fashion, your muscle tension.
- 45:49That's also healing.
- 45:50It's also gonna move your lymphatic system.
- 45:52This isn't a support detoxification.
- 45:55Um, so I mean, really, my favorite day would be like maybe sauna, gym sauna, maybe trying to figure out, you know, which order you want to do that.
- 46:05Um float, float right after the gym for sure.
- 46:09Maybe, maybe do float, then sauna, then massage, then colonic.
- 46:14That would be my professional recommendation.
- 46:16The gym is just your, you know, boosting all your happy brain chemicals.
- 46:20Uh, also really great for anxiety.
- 46:22Also gonna move the lymphatic system.
- 46:24Also gonna help detoxification as well and gut motility, right?
- 46:28The float therapy is gonna help your recovery.
- 46:31It's gonna also reduce inflammation, remove lactic acid, um, you know, calm you the F down, right?
- 46:37The sauna is gonna kind of go even further.
- 46:40And then the massage, I like to do the massage after a float.
- 46:44And a sauna, if you can't do the sauna, you know, at least do the float over the massage before the massage.
- 46:51I like to do it in that order because they're gonna be able to go deeper into your tissues when you um are boosting when you're getting that massage, right?
- 47:03And now I don't know if you've ever had this, but I've definitely had massages where you know, you're like mucusy afterwards, like they go really like deep tissue, you know what I mean?
- 47:14Um, that's great.
- 47:15I love that.
- 47:16When you pair these with colonics, oh my god, it's amazing.
- 47:20I mean, really and truly the results are gonna be exponential because again, you're kind of bringing stuff to the surface, right?
- 47:28You're calming the nervous system, you're bringing stuff to the surface, and then the colonics are just gonna kind of help flush it all out, right?
- 47:34Really, really, really just flush the toxins away, right?
- 47:39So, how can you mitigate, you know, some of this damage?
- 47:47So, this is gonna be like your holiday survival guide, okay.
- 47:53Um, a lot of these are very easy.
- 47:56So, I want to first start with uh the people that are preparing food because if you're not preparing food, you're it it is, it's a little different, right?
- 48:07You have less control, but I want to remind you that this is your family.
- 48:12This is your family and they do love you.
- 48:14They might be difficult, they might be a pain in your neck, but they do love you and they do care for you.
- 48:19And I encourage all of you before I go through this list to give them a little benefit of the doubt.
- 48:25Give it a shot.
- 48:26Don't shoot yourself in the foot.
- 48:28Don't assume that they'll shoot you down or it's gonna be a dramatic or a big thing, you know, and it it might still be.
- 48:34We can't control their response.
- 48:36That's the truth.
- 48:38But give them a shot.
- 48:40You know, just just try it.
- 48:41You know what I mean?
- 48:43Um, you know, hey, mom, I'm I'm doing this dairy-free thing this year.
- 48:47I was wondering, you know, would you mind using uh using this uh you know, milk for the this dish versus sure, you know, and who knows, maybe maybe I'll give you a bunch of flack about it.
- 48:59And listen, that drama's gonna happen no matter what, right?
- 49:02So let's get into it.
- 49:05Your holiday survival tool guide.
- 49:07Um, again, if you are preparing your own food, this is easy.
- 49:14Stop telling your friends and family.
- 49:17I have a client and she's so conscious and so consistent, honestly, she's really amazing.
- 49:22I was very surprised that she's like, well, my daughters were coming, so I made them the real thing.
- 49:26I'm like, they're not gonna know.
- 49:27Why compromise your health for them?
- 49:31And quite frankly, why compromise their health as well if you know better?
- 49:36I don't understand that.
- 49:37I get it.
- 49:38I get you want everything to be good.
- 49:40Give it a chance.
- 49:42Nine times out of ten, they're not gonna notice the difference.
- 49:45All right, so one of the easiest things to do is you make all the same recipes, but you just swap out some of these inflammatory ingredients.
- 49:54Your mac and cheese, your your mashed potatoes, your um, what's another one that people
- 50:00Do uh green bean stuffing, uh, green bean stuffing, green bean casserole, uh, stuffing.
- 50:05I don't think stuffing has any dairy rig in it.
- 50:07But swap it out, swap out the dairy, swap it out.
- 50:11Super, super easy to do, guys.
- 50:12Very easy to do.
- 50:14Any health food grocery store, I'll always, always, always recommend stop going to your fries in your safe way.
- 50:19I will always recommend that.
- 50:20Well, let me not let me back up.
- 50:22Let me not say we'll always because they they are changing, they're improving.
- 50:25But as of right now, they're still very conventional grocery stores.
- 50:28If I can buy Reese's peanut butter cups, Skittles, and um, you know, honey nut Cheerios or or uh Fruit Loop cereal, then that's not a store that I even I don't even want to see those on the shelf.
- 50:42You know what I'm saying?
- 50:43Those are just straight toxic poison.
- 50:44Okay.
- 50:45So you're you can get some healthy options at these stores.
- 50:48If that's the only place that's near you, if you only have a fries or a Kroger or an Aldi's, if you only have those near you, go to them.
- 50:56They are still gonna have some dairy-free alternatives.
- 51:00Oat milk, cashew milk, uh, almond milk, pistachio milk they have.
- 51:05I've seen uh black sesame seed milk.
- 51:08So these are these are pretty common nowadays, y'all.
- 51:11A lot of people are going dairy free.
- 51:13Still read your labels.
- 51:15You still read your labels, and make sure, you know, get the least inflammatory one.
- 51:19And again, do what your budget can allow, right?
- 51:22Um, but that's gonna be super easy.
- 51:23Nutritional yeast is gonna give you a cheesy flavor and get your non-dairy cheeses.
- 51:28If you go to my website, be more raw.com.
- 51:30I have a free, a free download for a dairy replacements guide.
- 51:35And I have pictures on there because I know a lot of you are already putting your nose up to me.
- 51:41I can see you, I can see you right there in the back.
- 51:44And you're like, uh, dairy-free cheese is yucky.
- 51:47Not all of them.
- 51:47Some of them are garbage.
- 51:48Let's be honest.
- 51:49Some of them are crap.
- 51:51But there's a lot of really tasty ones and healthy ones that are not super processed if you're worried about that as well.
- 51:56I don't use any of the processed ones really anymore.
- 51:58On occasion, you know, maybe for the holiday parties, but is my everyday?
- 52:02No, I'm not doing it anymore.
- 52:04Okay.
- 52:04Um, same thing with your butter.
- 52:06Um, you can get a non-dairy one.
- 52:09Um, you can look for even a non-dairy, you can even look for a recipe.
- 52:13Avocado oil, coconut oil, olive oil, um, even nut butter mixes sometimes for baking.
- 52:20Um, but this is gonna, you know, give you again less mucus, less bloat, all of that, right?
- 52:24But you can just find a non-dairy butter.
- 52:26Um, again, very, very easy to find.
- 52:29Okay.
- 52:30Even um, you know, I still wouldn't get one with canola oil, but even the ones like uh Miyoko's is organic, they do use a little sunflower oil in there, even though sunflower oil is a little inflammatory, it's way less inflammatory than actual eggs and actual butter, like a measurably so.
- 52:47It's gonna way, way plummet your blood sugar as well, blunt your blood sugar spike, and your triglycerides are going to be much less than if you were to eat the um real thing.
- 52:59All right.
- 53:00Egg, same thing.
- 53:02Um, there's actually, you can look up egg replacement guide and just go do an image search online, and you'll probably find a nice few uh graphics for this.
- 53:11I actually have one still on my fridge.
- 53:13Um, depending on what you're doing, you there's different options.
- 53:18But what I do is I do flax egg.
- 53:20It's the easiest.
- 53:21I just keep ground flax in my fridge.
- 53:23Um, but you can do like banana for baking or even soaking tofu or garbanzo.
- 53:29Um, you know, it just depends um what you're using.
- 53:33But I would say the one that works best across the board is gonna be the flax egg.
- 53:37Um, it's literally one tablespoon of ground flax and three tablespoons of water.
- 53:42You let it sit, you start around a little bit, and you will see will begin to thicken and become very viscous.
- 53:47Uh, you'll see it's very similar to the actual taste, uh texture of eggs.
- 53:50It's very interesting to watch that happen.
- 53:53Um, the other thing is uh gluten, you know, another really easy way to decrease the inflammation and just make your your holiday a little healthier.
- 54:05Um, you know, instead of you know gluten uh stuffing, get gluten-free bread, you know, get a good one.
- 54:13Um Queen Street, I'm gonna be adding actually a gluten-free guide to that um webpage.
- 54:19But in the meantime, if you want to DM me or email, um, I'll send it to you.
- 54:22I have it ready.
- 54:23I just haven't put it on the website yet.
- 54:24But I have again gluten-free breads that I've tasted and tested.
- 54:28Again, there's crappy ones and there's good ones, just like any food, just like unhealthy food.
- 54:32There's good food and bad food, right?
- 54:35Um, but gluten, you know, uh, if you're doing like a baked mac and cheese, um, you know, that's easy, get gluten-free noodles.
- 54:43Um, you do have to, you know, make sure you watch those closely.
- 54:47You don't want to overcook those, but they'll they'll taste great.
- 54:50They'll taste great, okay.
- 54:52Um, tortillas, I mean, not really a thing that you're probably eating too much of, depending on your family.
- 54:58And if so, get some gluten-free.
- 55:00Super simple.
- 55:01They have brown rice tortillas, there's cassava, um, even organic corn, that's gonna be gluten-free, right?
- 55:07Um, I'm trying to think what else.
- 55:09There's gluten-free pizza uh well, pizza dough as well, but pie doughs, pre-made pie crusts by Holy Gluten Free.
- 55:16Shout out to them.
- 55:16Um, no, they are not paying me for shouting them out, but they they make a great product, it's very versatile and pretty clean.
- 55:24Um, if you're not making the food, you gotta be prepared and for yourself.
- 55:34So, one thing is if you're going out, is again, like if they're your family, just ask to make these replacements.
- 55:40If you're really sneaky or bold, man, depending on how much you know them, honestly, I would just buy the ingredients like for my dad.
- 55:47I would just be like, here, use this milk instead.
- 55:49And you'll use it, right?
- 55:50If you're really sneaky, you can pour the non-dairy milk into their container.
- 55:55If you really want to go that far, um, you know, but before you go out, have the smoothie, eat your salad, drink your water.
- 56:02You know, you get get your food in first so that way you're not like starving, like, oh, I need to eat something when you go to the party or the the gathering.
- 56:10Um, but let's talk about the drinking part, okay.
- 56:12I know this is what y'all are all waiting for.
- 56:15So charcoal, probiotics, and coconut water.
- 56:22That is your key there.
- 56:24Now, again, this has to be used exponentially.
- 56:26The charcoal is your binder.
- 56:27You want to take that the night before and the morning of take as much as you need to.
- 56:32The coconut water is gonna be your best friend that's gonna improve hydration.
- 56:35It's got electrolytes and it's detoxifying.
- 56:38Again, increase as you're drinking more.
- 56:41The probiotics are crucial.
- 56:43You want to get a spore-based probiotic like from microbiome labs.
- 56:47Stop getting your supplements on Amazon, okay?
- 56:50But this is gonna be crucial because the alcohol is killing off all the good bacteria in your gut.
- 56:56Okay, so keep that with you.
- 56:58Um, better get if you can juice your own, like cucumber and watermelon juice.
- 57:02Oh, super hydrating and delicious.
- 57:05But again, you'll want to have a few of these throughout the night.
- 57:07And um, you know, you probably won't remember, but at the very least, have it the night before and the morning next after.
- 57:15All right.
