- 0:10Speaker 1: He now gets a fancy intro Max Munsey joining us
- 0:13Speaker 1: on FT max Happy off season to Yeah, I know
- 0:16Speaker 1: spring training is right around the corner, So how are
- 0:18Speaker 1: things going? And did it feel like it went way
- 0:22Speaker 1: too damn fast?
- 0:25Speaker 2: Yeah, it is it only it's only felt like it's
- 0:27Speaker 2: been a couple of weeks that most. It's been pretty
- 0:31Speaker 2: hectic off season for me, you know it Just like
- 0:35Speaker 2: I said, it's felt like it's been about two weeks long.
- 0:39Speaker 3: Do you get a fresh cut?
- 0:40Speaker 4: I mean, looks like you got a fresh cut up top.
- 0:43Speaker 5: No, it's been it's been a little bit.
- 0:45Speaker 4: Oh it's looking nice, looked like you you might have
- 0:48Speaker 4: put some product up there.
- 0:51Speaker 2: No, it's it's early in the morning getting ready to
- 0:53Speaker 2: you know, work out, so it's uh uh yeah, no
- 0:55Speaker 2: no product in there.
- 0:57Speaker 3: We just had Alice call on the other day and
- 0:59Speaker 3: I was like, like, how how many requests do you get?
- 1:02Speaker 3: Because there's you know, there's the Mookie Freddie Show, Hey
- 1:06Speaker 3: Yamamoto level, and then there's the guy who hit a
- 1:10Speaker 3: big home run in Game seven of the World Series level,
- 1:13Speaker 3: and then there's Alex call and he said he's been
- 1:16Speaker 3: pretty busy. Did you say more or less yeses to
- 1:21Speaker 3: doing appearances this year with the baby on the way
- 1:24Speaker 3: and the fact that now it's your third World Series championship.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Uh, mainly because you know just how hectic the off
- 1:35Speaker 2: season has been.
- 1:35Speaker 5: I've said no to a lot of things.
- 1:38Speaker 2: You know, there's still a couple of things I've said
- 1:39Speaker 2: yes too, But it's just you're trying to get as
- 1:41Speaker 2: much time with the family as possible. You know, it's
- 1:44Speaker 2: back to back years, especially with starting overseas last two years,
- 1:47Speaker 2: where it's it's been a really long year, and so
- 1:50Speaker 2: just trying to get as much family time as I
- 1:51Speaker 2: can right now knowing that, Uh, you know, we're gearing
- 1:54Speaker 2: up for another long haul and you know it's it's
- 1:57Speaker 2: eight nine months of baseball, So you try to get
- 2:00Speaker 2: the family time when you can.
- 2:04Speaker 3: Where are you right now?
- 2:05Speaker 4: Are you haven't reported to Arizona yet, have you?
- 2:09Speaker 3: No?
- 2:09Speaker 5: I'm at a I'm at Dodger Stadium right now.
- 2:11Speaker 3: Whoh, you're bad.
- 2:12Speaker 4: That's why it looks so fancy. Uh when do you
- 2:15Speaker 4: go to Arizona?
- 2:17Speaker 3: Uh?
- 2:17Speaker 2: You know, I'll be out there right when pictures and
- 2:20Speaker 2: catchers report. So what is that like two weeks two
- 2:22Speaker 2: and a half weeks away?
- 2:23Speaker 5: Something like that early guy.
- 2:25Speaker 4: You're an early guy, You're a you're an overachiever.
- 2:28Speaker 3: Max. It's good you're an overachiever. That's not true.
- 2:30Speaker 5: Well, no, I wouldn't call it over achiever. For me,
- 2:32Speaker 5: it's more I in the past.
- 2:35Speaker 2: I'd always gotten out there right around in the first
- 2:38Speaker 2: day of February, you know. To me, I always felt
- 2:41Speaker 2: like that was a good time to get out there,
- 2:42Speaker 2: start getting adjusted, making sure you're out on the field,
- 2:45Speaker 2: you know, because in the off season you can do
- 2:47Speaker 2: all the hitting and ground balls and everything you want,
- 2:49Speaker 2: but until you're actually out there on the field, it's
- 2:51Speaker 2: just kind of it's not really the same thing. And
- 2:53Speaker 2: so I always felt like getting out to Arizona starting
- 2:56Speaker 2: to get accimated, and you know, I felt I also
- 2:59Speaker 2: felt like that puts you more in the proper mindset
- 3:01Speaker 2: of I'm getting ready for the season. Uh, you know,
- 3:04Speaker 2: because like I said, when you're in the cages or
- 3:06Speaker 2: you know, you're at home, you just you can train
- 3:09Speaker 2: as hard as you want, you just don't reflect you're
- 3:10Speaker 2: in the right mindset. And so for me, it's easier
- 3:13Speaker 2: to get adjusted to it than try to just flip
- 3:15Speaker 2: the switch on day one.
- 3:17Speaker 3: Does everybody go with you. Now you have three kids,
- 3:20Speaker 3: your wife, does everybody go with you.
- 3:23Speaker 5: They'll be out there eventually.
- 3:25Speaker 2: They're not going to come out, you know when I
- 3:26Speaker 2: go out, but uh yeah, once once game starts and
- 3:28Speaker 2: everything though, they'll be out there. And you know they
- 3:31Speaker 2: they love Arizona just as much as I do. It's
- 3:33Speaker 2: a great time of year to be out there. It's
- 3:35Speaker 2: a you know, the weather's amazing and you know, just
- 3:38Speaker 2: spring training is just a fun It's a fun time
- 3:40Speaker 2: for the families. You know, you get to see everyone
- 3:42Speaker 2: again and they always got a bunch of stuff going on,
- 3:44Speaker 2: and uh, you know, like I said, in Arizona, there's
- 3:46Speaker 2: a ton of stuff to do for the kids.
- 3:49Speaker 3: Are you excited to make me? Sorry? Crat's go ahead.
- 3:52Speaker 3: Oh no, no, yeah, we we're just we're just looking
- 3:55Speaker 3: looking at who the new new signings for the Dodgers are.
- 3:58Speaker 3: What do you got on the fact that they went
- 4:00Speaker 3: out and got Kyle Tucker, the fact that they were
- 4:03Speaker 3: like Edwin ds he's a decent closer. We'll just bump
- 4:08Speaker 3: Rokie out of the closer position. How is that? How
- 4:12Speaker 3: is that received by your teammates? But also how how
- 4:16Speaker 3: do you receive the negative backlash that everybody has brought
- 4:21Speaker 3: about all the evil empire and the Dodgers are ruining
- 4:24Speaker 3: baseball and all that chatter.
- 4:28Speaker 5: Well, first off, it's exciting as a player.
- 4:31Speaker 2: You know, it's really exciting for us where you're adding
- 4:33Speaker 2: two really big pieces and you know it's not really
- 4:36Speaker 2: like we needed anything, but adding you know, two big
- 4:39Speaker 2: pieces like that, it's very very exciting.
- 4:42Speaker 5: Uh.
- 4:42Speaker 2: You know, I think for us as an organization, you
- 4:44Speaker 2: just can't you can't really worry about what is being
- 4:47Speaker 2: you know, said on the outside. We just have to
- 4:48Speaker 2: worry about ourselves. And that's how we've always gone about business.
- 4:52Speaker 2: We just try to worry about what happens in the clubhouse,
- 4:54Speaker 2: what happens on the field, and you know, let everyone
- 4:56Speaker 2: else say what they want away from us, that it
- 4:58Speaker 2: shouldn't affect us.
- 4:59Speaker 5: We just need to be be out there focused on ourselves.
- 5:01Speaker 2: And you know, that's that's how we've always gone about business.
- 5:04Speaker 2: It's how we're going to continue to go about our business.
- 5:09Speaker 3: Max.
- 5:09Speaker 4: But seriously, it's your fault. Okay, it's the Dodger's fault.
- 5:12Speaker 4: Everyone's saying it's all the Dodger's fault, that there's gonna
- 5:16Speaker 4: be a work stoppage in a salary cap Can you
- 5:18Speaker 4: guys handle that pressure this year? Not forget the repeating
- 5:22Speaker 4: and trying to win another one, But it's all the
- 5:24Speaker 4: Dodger's fault that they spend money and they actually try
- 5:27Speaker 4: because they make so much damn money because they spend
- 5:29Speaker 4: money and try.
- 5:32Speaker 2: Sure, yeah, I mean, I guess it's our faull one.
- 5:36Speaker 4: Everyone else is the Dodger's fault. Global warming, you know,
- 5:40Speaker 4: the ice, the snowmem again we just had. It's all
- 5:43Speaker 4: the Dodgers fault.
- 5:44Speaker 3: I mean everything.
- 5:44Speaker 4: It's like the Dodgers. I've ruined every sport now, so
- 5:47Speaker 4: way to go.
- 5:47Speaker 3: Max.
- 5:48Speaker 4: I'm super I'm super proud of you that the Dodgers
- 5:51Speaker 4: win every year and you guys ruined everything in the world.
- 5:54Speaker 3: Way to go.
- 5:55Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, sorry about that, you know. And it's uh,
- 5:57Speaker 5: I don't.
- 5:58Speaker 2: Like I said, we just try to worry about ourselves
- 6:00Speaker 2: and uh, you know, the fallout happens after that, but
- 6:02Speaker 2: uh no.
- 6:03Speaker 5: I mean, it's just it's.
- 6:07Speaker 2: The work stoppage thing is that was gonna happen, you know,
- 6:11Speaker 2: and we don't know if it's gonna happen.
- 6:12Speaker 5: But look, we're not adding any more fuel to that fire.
- 6:16Speaker 2: If that happens, it was always gonna happen, and it's
- 6:18Speaker 2: not gonna only happen just because of us. You know,
- 6:21Speaker 2: that's that's a totally different issue that uh, you know,
- 6:24Speaker 2: I don't really want to fully get into at this moment.
- 6:28Speaker 2: There's be plenty of time for that over the next
- 6:29Speaker 2: over the next year. But yeah, you know, we we
- 6:34Speaker 2: just got to focus on ourselves.
- 6:36Speaker 3: All right. Something you have to get into is a
- 6:38Speaker 3: guy that were just showing a picture of right next
- 6:40Speaker 3: to you, Kyle Tucker. Honestly, big league vets like him,
- 6:44Speaker 3: and like you necessarily don't have to sit down and
- 6:46Speaker 3: be like, Kyle, this is how we do this. How
- 6:49Speaker 3: do you guys, as the Dodgers make him feel as
- 6:52Speaker 3: comfortable as possible to hit the ground running on opening day?
- 6:58Speaker 2: You know, that's where spring training is so important. You know,
- 7:00Speaker 2: it's for him to come in and start, you know,
- 7:03Speaker 2: as a new player. One of the hardest things to
- 7:05Speaker 2: do is learn faces. You know, you're talking about clubhouse attendance,
- 7:10Speaker 2: training staff, strength staff, you know, coaches, all the you know,
- 7:15Speaker 2: front office guys that help us out, the analytical guys.
- 7:19Speaker 2: It's a lot of faces to learn, and so you
- 7:21Speaker 2: know the easiest way for him to get acclimated is
- 7:24Speaker 2: to kind of just get to spring training and watch
- 7:26Speaker 2: how we do things, because you know, like you said,
- 7:28Speaker 2: we're not just gonna We're not gonna have like a
- 7:29Speaker 2: sit down meeting and be like, Okay, this is how
- 7:31Speaker 2: the organization runs. You know, he's just going to see
- 7:34Speaker 2: how that, how that unfolds on it's on its own,
- 7:36Speaker 2: and uh, you know that that's where we've always done
- 7:39Speaker 2: a really good job in spring training with with new guys,
- 7:42Speaker 2: is we just kind of go about our business and
- 7:44Speaker 2: they they immediately pick up on what we do within
- 7:46Speaker 2: two or three days, and you know, everyone's just focused
- 7:50Speaker 2: on on us and focused on getting better each day
- 7:52Speaker 2: and what can we do each day to get better?
- 7:55Speaker 2: What you know, there's one little thing will work on
- 7:57Speaker 2: every single day, and it's that's what we're focused on
- 7:59Speaker 2: the most, and it's all out winning a baseball game.
- 8:01Speaker 2: And you know that's always been that's always been our
- 8:04Speaker 2: number one objective is just win the game that day.
- 8:07Speaker 5: And uh, you know, guys pick up on that pretty quick.
- 8:10Speaker 4: Were you involved in the recruiting pitch for any of this?
- 8:12Speaker 4: Did the Dodgers call you and say, hey, we need
- 8:14Speaker 4: you to reach out to Edwin Diaz. He's a pretty
- 8:17Speaker 4: good closer.
- 8:17Speaker 3: We'd like to have.
- 8:18Speaker 4: Hey, Kyle Tucker is thinking about coming here. Max, reach
- 8:20Speaker 4: out and make this guy feel comfortable.
- 8:23Speaker 2: No, I wasn't involved in an I don't know. I
- 8:26Speaker 2: don't know too many guys that were involved in that.
- 8:29Speaker 2: You know, I think those deals kind of just came together.
- 8:32Speaker 4: Obviously, you guys, Max, you guys are so good.
- 8:35Speaker 3: You sell yourselves.
- 8:36Speaker 4: You don't even have to remember when you guys were
- 8:38Speaker 4: all meeting for dinners with show Hey, all secret dinners, Like,
- 8:41Speaker 4: oh man, we got to have secret dinners with show Hey.
- 8:44Speaker 4: And now people are like, forget that, I want to
- 8:46Speaker 4: have dinner with Max Munsey and please make them come
- 8:49Speaker 4: to me now.
- 8:52Speaker 2: No, I mean, obviously I'm not in the war room
- 8:55Speaker 2: with the front office guys.
- 8:56Speaker 3: But uh uh.
- 8:58Speaker 2: You know, my understanding is those deals was kind of
- 9:00Speaker 2: just just came together.
- 9:02Speaker 5: You know.
- 9:02Speaker 2: I think those guys wanted to come here, they wanted
- 9:04Speaker 2: to win, and you know, obviously we gave them a
- 9:07Speaker 2: lot of money. But you know, that's one of the
- 9:10Speaker 2: things that we've created here is people know about our
- 9:12Speaker 2: culture and know about what our organization is about and
- 9:15Speaker 2: they want to come be a part of it.
- 9:17Speaker 3: Are you a little mad that you guys signed ds
- 9:19Speaker 3: because you got okay decent numbers against him, or are
- 9:22Speaker 3: you fine now that you're not going to need to
- 9:24Speaker 3: face them anymore?
- 9:26Speaker 5: Oh?
- 9:26Speaker 2: Yeah, I'd rather not face them. I don't care what
- 9:28Speaker 2: my numbers are. It's not a guy that you want
- 9:29Speaker 2: to face.
- 9:32Speaker 3: Speaking of a guy that you don't ever have to face,
- 9:34Speaker 3: and anybody has to face except for WBC guys. Kershall,
- 9:39Speaker 3: what do you think about him finally getting his chance
- 9:43Speaker 3: to pitch into WBC, because from what we heard it
- 9:46Speaker 3: was insurance before that he wasn't able to that he
- 9:50Speaker 3: wasn't able to participate. Kind of like what's going on
- 9:52Speaker 3: with Korea and U Tuva right now? And what do
- 9:55Speaker 3: you expect to see from Kershaw when he throws into WBC.
- 10:01Speaker 5: You know, I'm super pumped for him.
- 10:03Speaker 2: I know he really was bummed that he couldn't do
- 10:06Speaker 2: it the last time. You know, he really wanted to,
- 10:09Speaker 2: but like you said, there was an insurance thing and
- 10:11Speaker 2: it just for him it wasn't worth that fight, you know,
- 10:14Speaker 2: So I'm excited to see him go out there and
- 10:16Speaker 2: get to put on, you know, the the United States Jersey.
- 10:20Speaker 2: I think that's a cool moment for you know, any
- 10:22Speaker 2: baseball player to be able to rep their country. And
- 10:25Speaker 2: I don't know what to expect out of him. I
- 10:27Speaker 2: I the only thing I can tell you is that
- 10:29Speaker 2: he's going to compete. You know, That's that's what he's
- 10:32Speaker 2: always done. He goes out there and competes to the
- 10:34Speaker 2: absolute best and you know, the chances that he gets
- 10:37Speaker 2: to pitch, I can promise you he's going to compete
- 10:39Speaker 2: and he's going to be fiery out there.
- 10:40Speaker 5: But yeah, I don't know what to expect.
- 10:42Speaker 2: I don't know, you know, when the season ended, I
- 10:45Speaker 2: don't know how uh how much he's kept his arm
- 10:49Speaker 2: in shape. You know when I would imagine when you
- 10:53Speaker 2: make that decision to retire, you're pretty sad.
- 10:55Speaker 5: I'm not throwing a baseball again. So I don't know where.
- 10:57Speaker 2: I don't know where he'll be at, but uh, you
- 10:59Speaker 2: know it'll it's gonna be really fun to watch, and
- 11:01Speaker 2: you know, I'll be cheering him on for sure.
- 11:03Speaker 3: All right.
- 11:04Speaker 4: First of all, as long as he rocks the dad body,
- 11:06Speaker 4: there's nothing more American and him walking around everywhere with
- 11:09Speaker 4: no shirt on and the total dad go for Clayton.
- 11:12Speaker 3: You deserve it.
- 11:12Speaker 4: You've had a unbelievable career, first ballot Hall of Famer.
- 11:14Speaker 4: But is this maybe a hint that he might not
- 11:17Speaker 4: be retired, he might come back, because man, if you're retired,
- 11:20Speaker 4: why the hell do you want to get all up
- 11:22Speaker 4: and get ready to pitch in the WBC every once
- 11:24Speaker 4: in a while, Like you think if you're retired, like
- 11:26Speaker 4: no more throwing, no more working out, no more any
- 11:29Speaker 4: of that.
- 11:30Speaker 3: But Clayton's like, Nope, I'm gonna pitch for the USA.
- 11:33Speaker 5: No.
- 11:33Speaker 2: I think he's pretty sad on being retired. You know,
- 11:38Speaker 2: his body has been through so much, his arm has
- 11:40Speaker 2: been through so much, and you know, he had to
- 11:42Speaker 2: fight through a lot of stuff last last couple of years,
- 11:44Speaker 2: and you know, he won back. He's won three World
- 11:48Speaker 2: Series back to back World Series now, and you know,
- 11:51Speaker 2: I think he's pretty he's he's pretty okay with where
- 11:54Speaker 2: he's at, and uh, you know he's he's such a
- 11:57Speaker 2: good dad at home, and I think he's ready to
- 11:59Speaker 2: take that on full time that you know, unless he
- 12:03Speaker 2: comes out in the WBC throwing ninety five. I think
- 12:06Speaker 2: he's I think he's pretty pretty set on where he's at.
- 12:09Speaker 3: We discussed it. That wasn't gonna be our next question.
- 12:11Speaker 3: We discussed that if he pops in ninety seven, do
- 12:16Speaker 3: you think because of the you know, the competitor, you
- 12:19Speaker 3: know the person, you also know the father and husband
- 12:21Speaker 3: that he is, does he say.
- 12:25Speaker 2: Maybe?
- 12:26Speaker 3: Because every other year he's tried to do the med,
- 12:28Speaker 3: the heavy ball stuff, and it's like still just eighty
- 12:30Speaker 3: nine sliders down in a way too, you know, down
- 12:33Speaker 3: and in two three era and finishes the season out.
- 12:36Speaker 3: Does he come back if he pops in ninety five
- 12:38Speaker 3: or ninety seven.
- 12:40Speaker 2: I don't think so. You know, like I said, I
- 12:43Speaker 2: think he's pretty content with where he's at. But you know,
- 12:46Speaker 2: in years past, he's been he's you know, already well
- 12:50Speaker 2: into his workout. It's been ramping up, you know, right
- 12:52Speaker 2: from the season ending, and you know, who knows, giving
- 12:56Speaker 2: his arm a little bit of a break even though
- 12:57Speaker 2: it was you know, only a month or two. He
- 13:01Speaker 2: he may come back in his arm might feel great.
- 13:02Speaker 2: And you know, if he does do ninety five, he
- 13:05Speaker 2: might think I could do this out.
- 13:06Speaker 5: Of the pen for a year.
- 13:07Speaker 2: But no, I really believe he's he's pretty content with
- 13:10Speaker 2: where he's at.
- 13:12Speaker 3: We agreed on the show, but it's a fun exercise
- 13:15Speaker 3: to talk about it, of course. Yeah, your manager, Doc
- 13:19Speaker 3: Roberts said he would love to manage the twenty twenty
- 13:25Speaker 3: eight Olympic team for Team USA. Do you want to
- 13:28Speaker 3: see professional the big leaguers play in the Olympics And
- 13:33Speaker 3: do you think Doc would be a great manager, even
- 13:36Speaker 3: though he'd have to go right up until the day
- 13:38Speaker 3: before the Olympics started with you guys and then bang
- 13:41Speaker 3: right into Team USA.
- 13:45Speaker 2: Well, first off, yes, he would be a great manager.
- 13:48Speaker 2: You know, he's he's e lite at what he does.
- 13:51Speaker 2: He's so good at knowing his players and knowing how
- 13:55Speaker 2: they operate. And you know, if you had professional players
- 13:58Speaker 2: in the Olympics, He's going to know every single one
- 14:00Speaker 2: of them. So there wouldn't be that I got to
- 14:03Speaker 2: get to know my players face. He'd be able to
- 14:05Speaker 2: get right into there and and be able to to
- 14:07Speaker 2: you know, know everybody and manage them. And you know,
- 14:12Speaker 2: if there were professional players, the first thing that he
- 14:14Speaker 2: would do would would you know, be he'd get in
- 14:16Speaker 2: contact with, you know, all the coaches of those players
- 14:19Speaker 2: just to learn, you know, more about those guys. And
- 14:23Speaker 2: you know, the thing with the professional players being in
- 14:27Speaker 2: the Olympics is that would create such a long break
- 14:31Speaker 2: in the middle of the summer that you know, I
- 14:34Speaker 2: don't know if that's a h a reasonable thing to do,
- 14:40Speaker 2: because you're not going to continue the season with star
- 14:42Speaker 2: players not playing in you know, for their teams they're
- 14:45Speaker 2: gonna if they're going to be in the Olympics, you're
- 14:46Speaker 2: not going to keep the season going, you know.
- 14:50Speaker 5: I I don't know.
- 14:53Speaker 2: If I have a good answer to that, just what
- 14:55Speaker 2: I like to see it maybe, But at the same time,
- 14:57Speaker 2: that's kind of what the WBC is for. It's a
- 15:00Speaker 2: almost like Olympic Baseball, just not in the Olympics. So
- 15:04Speaker 2: you know it, the WBC is a really fun event
- 15:07Speaker 2: that I really enjoy watching and I think it's really cool.
- 15:10Speaker 2: But to do it again in the Olympics, I don't know.
- 15:16Speaker 4: Yeah, Well, WBC's this year, so you get you get
- 15:19Speaker 4: you get the full country and everything this year, so
- 15:22Speaker 4: we can enjoy that. And if it happens in the
- 15:24Speaker 4: next Olympics, that'd be great because it'd be cool to
- 15:26Speaker 4: showcase baseball. But Japanese, the Japanese team wins every seems
- 15:31Speaker 4: like they win everything every year. You know, they're they're
- 15:33Speaker 4: in the finals, they're winning this and that. We just
- 15:35Speaker 4: talked about rookie Sazaki and Dave Roberts came out and said, oh,
- 15:39Speaker 4: he needs a third pitch. Have you faced him in
- 15:42Speaker 4: like live VP, and does he need a third pitch
- 15:44Speaker 4: a slider, a curveball or something, because you know, fastball
- 15:47Speaker 4: split coming out of that pen in the in the
- 15:49Speaker 4: playoffs was pretty good.
- 15:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean being a starter and being out of
- 15:54Speaker 2: the pen is you know, your pitch mix has to
- 15:56Speaker 2: be a little bit different. You know, if he's sitting
- 15:59Speaker 2: a hundred with the split, it's because the split is
- 16:03Speaker 2: so unlike any other pitch that's out there.
- 16:06Speaker 5: You know, it's it's almost more like a forkball.
- 16:09Speaker 2: You know, he threw a couple of splits last year
- 16:10Speaker 2: that had like seven hundred eight hundred rpm on it,
- 16:13Speaker 2: which you know, that's that's getting close to knuckleball territory.
- 16:20Speaker 2: I don't know, if he's sitting one hundred, he probably
- 16:22Speaker 2: doesn't need another pitch. But you know, when you look
- 16:25Speaker 2: at some of the guys out there, you look at
- 16:26Speaker 2: you know, Paul Skins or you know de Grom they
- 16:30Speaker 2: all have the third pitch that they mix in there,
- 16:32Speaker 2: and it's just something to keep the hitter off balance.
- 16:34Speaker 2: When there's only two pitches you have to worry about,
- 16:36Speaker 2: your approach becomes a little bit more simple. And when
- 16:39Speaker 2: you're talking about seeing guys two three times through in order,
- 16:42Speaker 2: it's a you got to have just something you can
- 16:44Speaker 2: throw in there as a wrinkle, even if it's not
- 16:45Speaker 2: a very good pitch.
- 16:46Speaker 5: You just have to have something to throw in there
- 16:47Speaker 5: as a little bit of a wrinkle.
- 16:49Speaker 3: Did you happen to catch show Tany's MVP acceptance speech
- 16:53Speaker 3: any any parts of it?
- 16:56Speaker 5: I did not know.
- 16:57Speaker 3: Okay, well, when you go back and check it out,
- 17:00Speaker 3: because he did it all in English. He did a
- 17:02Speaker 3: very good job. Fans have been clamoring. They're like, we
- 17:06Speaker 3: rarely get to hear show Hey speak let alone in English.
- 17:11Speaker 3: How is his English? And what is the one thing
- 17:13Speaker 3: that you guys get on him for when he's speaking
- 17:17Speaker 3: English to you guys, And because you've said it multiple times, Oh,
- 17:21Speaker 3: he's very comfortable. He usually speaks English. He rarely uses
- 17:24Speaker 3: an interpreter in the clubhouse, and he didn't use an
- 17:27Speaker 3: interpreter when he gave when he got his MVP award.
- 17:31Speaker 2: Well, you know, he can speak base baseball very very good.
- 17:37Speaker 2: But speaking baseball and speaking just normally is two different,
- 17:43Speaker 2: you know, two different things. And you know, in terms
- 17:46Speaker 2: of like a speech, he obviously had time to practice
- 17:49Speaker 2: that he knew what he was going to say. You know,
- 17:51Speaker 2: that's a different story than if he's doing an interview
- 17:53Speaker 2: with you know, where questions are coming at him that
- 17:55Speaker 2: he doesn't know what's going to be said. You know,
- 17:58Speaker 2: in the clubhouse, he obviously speaks you know, good English,
- 18:00Speaker 2: because like I said, he can speak baseball very very well.
- 18:05Speaker 2: It's uh, it's always been cool to see him interact
- 18:08Speaker 2: with with teammates, you know, because he really tries. He
- 18:12Speaker 2: definitely really tries. He's not a guy that just says,
- 18:15Speaker 2: oh what don't I don't know, I'm not going to
- 18:16Speaker 2: try to learn. You know, he really tries to learn
- 18:19Speaker 2: what his teammates are saying and he tries to interact.
- 18:21Speaker 2: And you know that that's always been a cool thing
- 18:25Speaker 2: for me to see is that he cares, Uh, he
- 18:27Speaker 2: cares enough about his teammates that he wants to learn
- 18:29Speaker 2: how to communicate with them.
- 18:32Speaker 3: I need to ask you a question, do you have
- 18:34Speaker 3: a selfie with show Hey.
- 18:37Speaker 5: No, I see, I try not to bother him with
- 18:39Speaker 5: that kind of stuff.
- 18:39Speaker 4: I got one. I got one at the awards on
- 18:42Speaker 4: the on the stage show Hey. I was nervous as crap,
- 18:45Speaker 4: John Franco. I don't know if you know, John Franko,
- 18:47Speaker 4: the old picture for the Mets Mets Legend was sitting
- 18:50Speaker 4: next to me and show Hey was up on the
- 18:52Speaker 4: stage at the awards, and John's like, you think he'll
- 18:55Speaker 4: take a picture, And I was like, I don't know,
- 18:56Speaker 4: let's go together.
- 18:57Speaker 3: But he won't say no to both of us, will he?
- 18:59Speaker 4: And so we just kind of ran up there real fast,
- 19:01Speaker 4: and we got him real quick, John and I Hey,
- 19:03Speaker 4: hey Hey. And so now the next question is if
- 19:06Speaker 4: I bring a copy of that to spring training, will
- 19:07Speaker 4: he sign it for me?
- 19:11Speaker 5: Probably not.
- 19:15Speaker 3: No.
- 19:15Speaker 2: I mean, like you know, all my teammates they get
- 19:18Speaker 2: bugs so much with that kind of stuff that I've personally,
- 19:22Speaker 2: I have never tried to be one to ask them
- 19:23Speaker 2: for anything.
- 19:26Speaker 3: What listen next?
- 19:27Speaker 4: It was a once in a lifetime shot. So I
- 19:29Speaker 4: took the shot, okay, just because yeah, there you go. Look,
- 19:33Speaker 4: I mean, when are you gonna get a picture with
- 19:35Speaker 4: you and show. Absolutely, I mean that was that was
- 19:38Speaker 4: my shot.
- 19:38Speaker 3: So I took it.
- 19:39Speaker 5: I took and you're dressed up nice.
- 19:42Speaker 2: Look it's gonna look good hanging up in the office
- 19:43Speaker 2: right right now.
- 19:44Speaker 4: Just think if now, if I sign it goes down
- 19:46Speaker 4: in value. If he signs it, it goes like way
- 19:48Speaker 4: up in value. Even if he writes to AJ, I
- 19:50Speaker 4: can take a little something and wipe that off with man,
- 19:53Speaker 4: I could sell that for like a dollar.
- 19:55Speaker 5: Well I wouldn't. I wouldn't put that out there for
- 19:57Speaker 5: him to hear you.
- 20:00Speaker 4: I would never do any of that. So let's just
- 20:03Speaker 4: understand I would never do any of that.
- 20:05Speaker 3: I just want people to know that.
- 20:08Speaker 1: Max who gets bothered the most. There are many famous
- 20:12Speaker 1: teammates at this point. Who gets bothered the most for requests, photos,
- 20:17Speaker 1: whatever else that pops up at the ballpark each day?
- 20:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean it's this show is probably the top.
- 20:24Speaker 2: But you know, it's tough to pick from from all
- 20:27Speaker 2: my teammates. You know, I know Kersh got bugged a
- 20:31Speaker 2: lot last year because when it became known that it
- 20:34Speaker 2: was his last year, the request started flooding in. Guys
- 20:37Speaker 2: wanted to make sure they try to get a jersey
- 20:40Speaker 2: or a ball or just you know anything. So I
- 20:44Speaker 2: know he he got bogged down quite a bit towards
- 20:46Speaker 2: the end of the year last year. But yeah, shows
- 20:49Speaker 2: probably at the top.
- 20:52Speaker 1: All right, I'm gonna finish with I got two fan
- 20:55Speaker 1: questions on here.
- 20:56Speaker 3: One on this.
- 20:58Speaker 4: It's nice when you're Max and you're a star, You've
- 21:01Speaker 4: done a lot of special things and you walk into
- 21:03Speaker 4: your walk around and hey, show Hey, Hey, Mooky, Hey, Freddy, Hey,
- 21:09Speaker 4: Will Hey, Yamamoto, Hey, dot it out, Rokie.
- 21:13Speaker 3: And then your maxes Max, can you go get show Hey.
- 21:16Speaker 4: Yeah exactly, you just kind of slish, you know, like
- 21:18Speaker 4: Kyle Tucker can just kind of as good as Kyle
- 21:20Speaker 4: Tucker is. He can just slide behind, hide behind Showy
- 21:23Speaker 4: and Freddie and Mooki and you guys just walk in
- 21:26Speaker 4: and nobody even Yeah, Hey, Max, can you please get
- 21:28Speaker 4: show Hey to sign my picture for me?
- 21:31Speaker 5: Then, you know, I really don't mind that at all.
- 21:34Speaker 2: You know, I've been very comfortable with where I'm at,
- 21:37Speaker 2: and uh, you know, I've been very comfortable with who
- 21:39Speaker 2: I am, and you know, at the end of the day,
- 21:40Speaker 2: all those guys being in here just gives us a
- 21:42Speaker 2: better chance to win. And that's when I get to
- 21:45Speaker 2: go home and look at, you know, the three World
- 21:46Speaker 2: Series trophies I've got, and it's it's just it's it's
- 21:49Speaker 2: a good reminder every single day that it's, you know it,
- 21:52Speaker 2: it really takes a full team effort to win these things,
- 21:55Speaker 2: and you know, every single year, and you know, last
- 21:58Speaker 2: year was actually, you know, a really cool The World
- 22:01Speaker 2: Series last year was obviously really cool to me, just
- 22:03Speaker 2: because it took every single guy on the roster to
- 22:06Speaker 2: win that. If any one of those guys was missing,
- 22:09Speaker 2: we don't win that World Series. Every single person on
- 22:13Speaker 2: the roster played a big part in you know, winning
- 22:15Speaker 2: that World Series. Whether it was a catch or a
- 22:17Speaker 2: hit or a certain pitch or whatever. Every single guy
- 22:21Speaker 2: contributed to the one last year. And so it's just,
- 22:23Speaker 2: you know, it's such a team effort that, you know,
- 22:26Speaker 2: I don't mind being in the shadows.
- 22:28Speaker 5: It's fun. Max.
- 22:30Speaker 1: I'll cue up a fan question here, and I'll try
- 22:33Speaker 1: to combine actually both, so the fan jokingly asked, or
- 22:37Speaker 1: maybe not, are you gonna practice the wheel play in
- 22:40Speaker 1: spring training this year? Do you guys have it down?
- 22:42Speaker 1: And other fans have asked also if there's anything that
- 22:45Speaker 1: you're working on or that you changed.
- 22:47Speaker 5: In the offseason.
- 22:47Speaker 1: So I'll kind of mix both of those questions together
- 22:49Speaker 1: because we had Nolan ar and Ottawan yesterday and he
- 22:52Speaker 1: actually said he's done many things differently this offseason. These
- 22:55Speaker 1: guys can probably comment more about what he was saying,
- 22:58Speaker 1: but it had more to do I guess with rest
- 23:00Speaker 1: I whatever else that he's trying to switch up as
- 23:04Speaker 1: everybody gets a year older and you try to be
- 23:06Speaker 1: the prime version of yourself. So thoughts on both there.
- 23:12Speaker 2: Well, first the wheel play, Uh no, I don't I don't.
- 23:15Speaker 5: Know that we'll practice at this spring.
- 23:16Speaker 2: We'll practice the usual bunt defenses and uh, you know,
- 23:21Speaker 2: well we'll see what We'll see what Bobby g has
- 23:23Speaker 2: drawn up for us once spring starts. But you know,
- 23:27Speaker 2: as I talked about it last year after we ran it,
- 23:29Speaker 2: that's a play that we hadn't practiced since the pitchers
- 23:31Speaker 2: stopped hitting, and uh, you know, it's just one of
- 23:34Speaker 2: those things where it just kind of it came together
- 23:36Speaker 2: in the moment, and if we have to run them again,
- 23:38Speaker 2: I think it will be another come together in the
- 23:40Speaker 2: moment type of thing. And Doc's gonna trust the players
- 23:42Speaker 2: on the field to know what they need to do,
- 23:44Speaker 2: and you know, obviously we'll have a discussion about it,
- 23:46Speaker 2: but I don't yeah, I don't think we will be
- 23:49Speaker 2: practicing it. And ask for the other question, Uh, you know,
- 23:54Speaker 2: I think the thing that most of us have done
- 23:57Speaker 2: this year is just having the experience of being you know,
- 24:01Speaker 2: in the World Series multiple years now understanding how important
- 24:05Speaker 2: rest is.
- 24:07Speaker 5: So I think.
- 24:10Speaker 2: Most of the guys I've talked to have been on
- 24:11Speaker 2: the same program that I've been on that we haven't
- 24:14Speaker 2: started any baseball activity until you know, the middle of
- 24:18Speaker 2: January almost some guys are still just now starting and
- 24:22Speaker 2: just trying to give your body as much rest as possible,
- 24:25Speaker 2: knowing that if we want to make another run to November,
- 24:29Speaker 2: you know, the you got to be as rested as
- 24:32Speaker 2: you can to get through through the summertime. Most guys
- 24:35Speaker 2: like to hit and throw all year round, but for us,
- 24:38Speaker 2: you know, we got to have that rest. And so
- 24:40Speaker 2: most most guys have just uh pushed back their training
- 24:43Speaker 2: until until now, starting now knowing that spring training this
- 24:47Speaker 2: year is going to be more how it was you
- 24:50Speaker 2: know in the old days, where spring training is almost
- 24:53Speaker 2: like your off season, where you're really starting to ramp
- 24:55Speaker 2: up in spring training instead of showing up to spring
- 24:57Speaker 2: training fully ready to go, which you guys have seen
- 25:00Speaker 2: that evolution just as the years have gone by. It's
- 25:03Speaker 2: it's more and more you have to be ready from
- 25:05Speaker 2: the first game of spring versus oh, you're using spring
- 25:07Speaker 2: training to get ready, all.
- 25:10Speaker 3: Right before we let you go? Are you? And kersh?
- 25:12Speaker 4: The only two guys that have all three rings are.
- 25:15Speaker 5: Key King, Yuki kek, Rookie Will.
- 25:22Speaker 3: There's a whole lawsuit, a lot of y'all.
- 25:25Speaker 5: Yeah, and then uh D May and Tony Gonsolin count.
- 25:33Speaker 3: Oh yeah, man, there's a lot.
- 25:36Speaker 4: Yeah, man, that's amazing that you guys have kept this
- 25:38Speaker 4: many guys together for.
- 25:40Speaker 3: A long time.
- 25:41Speaker 2: Well yeah, obviously obviously, Doc, but yeah, I think that
- 25:44Speaker 2: might be it.
- 25:45Speaker 3: That's pretty awesome though.
- 25:46Speaker 4: That's a lot because I mean, I look at teams now,
- 25:49Speaker 4: the twenty twenty one White I'm just using the twenty
- 25:50Speaker 4: twenty one White Sox. There's not one player left and
- 25:53Speaker 4: they didn't win anything, and their team's all gone. But
- 25:55Speaker 4: you know, usually when guys win that, you know, the
- 25:58Speaker 4: free agent contracts or this, that they leave, you know, whatever.
- 26:02Speaker 4: It's just an amazing feat that you guys have kept
- 26:04Speaker 4: that many guys together for so long. It's a credit
- 26:07Speaker 4: to the organization and the people in that on that team.
- 26:10Speaker 2: Honestly, Yeah, it's been it's been a fun ride, and
- 26:13Speaker 2: it's you know it it's it's just really cool to
- 26:16Speaker 2: have that group of guys to have been through all
- 26:18Speaker 2: of this together and you know it is it is
- 26:22Speaker 2: pretty wild that uh, you know, three World Series, you know,
- 26:27Speaker 2: four or five years of winning one hundred plus games.
- 26:29Speaker 5: It's it's it's been a good ride.
- 26:32Speaker 1: Incredible dude. Well, great catching up with you, have a
- 26:35Speaker 1: great workout. Next time we see you. We'll be in
- 26:37Speaker 1: spring training, so safe travels out there. We'll see as soon.
- 26:40Speaker 5: Okay, all right, sounds good.
- 26:42Speaker 3: Appreciate you.
- 26:43Speaker 5: Thanks Max,
