- 0:00Hi and welcome back to another episode of the Elon Musk
- 0:03Podcast, where we explore the ambitious strides and
- 0:05captivating ventures of tech mogul Elon Musk.
- 0:08In today's episode, we delve into the most recent
- 0:11developments at the social media powerhouse X, formerly known as
- 0:15Twitter. Now, under Musk's dynamic
- 0:17leadership and in a significant organizational shift, Musk,
- 0:21along with Chief Executive Linda Yakorino, will be at the helm of
- 0:24the platform's trust and safety team.
- 0:27This team, responsible for content moderation, has been in
- 0:30the limelight following concerns about potential strikes and
- 0:33harmful content. Yet Musk and Yakorino seem
- 0:36poised and ready to address these challenges.
- 0:39Under the new structure, Musk will oversee X's product and
- 0:42engineering team, while Yakorino will manage all other divisions,
- 0:46including human resources, legal, finance, sales, and
- 0:51operations. And the duo of stewardship
- 0:53promises to usher in a new era for X, potentially refining the
- 0:57norms of social media engagement and safety.
- 0:59Now, Jacarino has also disclosed plans to recruit a new leader
- 1:03for brand safety and suitability.
- 1:06But what does this all mean for X's future?
- 1:09We're set to dive into this and more in today's episode, but
- 1:12before we do so, we're going to take a quick break for a word
- 1:15from our sponsors. So don't go anywhere.
- 1:17We'll be back with more about this intriguing story.
- 1:20Elon Musk acquired the social media platform previously known
- 1:24as Twitter last year, and Linda Yakarino, the executive chief of
- 1:28the newly dubbed company X, will jointly supervise its trust and
- 1:33safety team. This recent development was
- 1:35officially reported by X on Monday, sparking debates and
- 1:38attracting considerable attention to the future path of
- 1:41the popular social media platform and at the helm of the
- 1:44Trust and Safety Team. The two high-ranking executives
- 1:48will focus on managing the platform's content moderation
- 1:51mechanisms in light of the recent controversies.
- 1:54This move emphasizes the company's commitment to ensuring
- 1:58a safe and secure environment for its users.
- 2:02The new arrangement involves the division of leadership
- 2:04responsibilities between Musk and Yakarino.
- 2:07Elon Musk will manage X's product and engineering teams
- 2:10guiding the design, development, and operations of the platform.
- 2:14And on the other hand, Yakarino's expanded role will
- 2:17cover a broad ray of other divisions, including human
- 2:19resources, legal, finance, sales and operations.
- 2:25Now, the Truth and Safety team has been under scrutiny,
- 2:29particularly after Musk's acquisition of the former
- 2:32Twitter in October. Critics and researchers have
- 2:35raised concerns about X's content moderation policies,
- 2:39accusing the company of easing content restrictions, and such
- 2:42changes have allegedly contributed to an uptick in
- 2:45harmful posts. However, X defended its stance,
- 2:48arguing that a considerable majority of content views belong
- 2:52to quote healthy posts, reinforcing the platform's
- 2:56dedication to creating a positive user experience.
- 2:59Now, in an internal e-mail circulating among exemployees on
- 3:03Monday and later shared with Reuters, CEO Linda Yakorino
- 3:06disclosed the company's plans to recruit a new leader for brand
- 3:10safety and sustainability. This vacancy emerged following
- 3:13the departure of A J. Brown, the former head of brand
- 3:17safety, who had spearheaded initiatives to prevent ads from
- 3:20appearing adjacent to unsuitable content.
- 3:23Now, Yakorino's e-mail also revealed a frustrating plan for
- 3:27the Truth and Safety division, delegating different
- 3:30responsibilities to 3X leaders. These responsibilities encompass
- 3:34law enforcement operations and measures to disrupt potential
- 3:38threats, reflecting the company's proactive approach to
- 3:41platform security. Now the reshuffling of the Trust
- 3:44and Safety Team's leadership comes in the wake of Ella
- 3:48Irwin's resignation from the head of the team in June of last
- 3:52year of this year. Sorry 2023, and However, despite
- 3:56the notable staff changes and growing competition from
- 3:59emerging platforms like Macedon, Blue Sky and Metas Threads, X
- 4:05seems undeterred in its pursuit of innovation and growth.
- 4:08Now defying the critics who anticipated the platform's
- 4:11downfall following Musk's turbulent takeover, the tech
- 4:14billionaire asserts that X is in an upward trajectory.
- 4:17He recently revealed that the platform had reached a new high
- 4:21of 541 million monthly users by the end of July.
- 4:25This figure that Musk insists has been adjusted to exclude
- 4:29bots, highlighting the platform's genuine user growth
- 4:32and engagement. All these changes signal that X
- 4:35has committed to evolving its policies and management to
- 4:38ensure a new, safe, productive and engaging user experience.
- 4:43With Elon Musk and Linda Yakirino at the helm of the
- 4:47Trust and Safety Team in the future, the company appears
- 4:50prepared to face the challenges ahead, reinforcing its place in
- 4:54the highly competitive world of social media.
