Stop Running Your Shop Like a Technician | Rick White and Buckaroobob Bucknbob (John Firm) - Ep 27 · Downshift With Tonnika

• Rick White [00:00:00]: If you're an owner and you're still taking technical classes, you're still a mechanic. Buckaroo Bob [00:00:04]: You're still a mechanic. Rick White [00:00:04]: You're still a mechanic. And that's a problem, right, because you're not running the business, the business is running you. Tonnika Haynes [00:00:10]: Definitely. And these all sound like cliches, but it's the realest stuff in the world. Rick White [00:00:14]: Sometimes the smartest stuff is said simplest. Tonnika Haynes [00:00:18]: It's the simplest. It's so simple that it's. Rick [00:00:21]: Welcome to Downshift with my sis, Tanika Haynes. Tonnika Haynes [00:00:25]: We all know as shop owners, sometimes Rick [00:00:27]: you gotta slow down in order to speed up. And that's what this podcast is all about. Rick White [00:00:33]: It's time to downshift. Rick [00:00:41]: I've been taking pictures of me and people. So before I leave, I want a picture of me and you standing side Tonnika Haynes [00:00:46]: by side so you can make. So Michael can make us dance. Rick [00:00:48]: Yes. Yes. We've done one with Tracy, we've done one with Zeb, and now it's your turn. Tonnika Haynes [00:00:55]: That man needs a job. I think he should do that. He should do social media dancing videos Rick White [00:00:59]: for lips Instead of auto repair. Tonnika Haynes [00:01:01]: Instead of auto repair. Yep. Rick [00:01:02]: Yeah. He makes so much more money in half assed marketing. Rick White [00:01:05]: You know, I think if you had lipstick on when you took that picture, Rick [00:01:10]: oh, that would be cool. Tonnika Haynes [00:01:11]: We can do that. Rick [00:01:12]: We can. Tonnika Haynes [00:01:13]: Yeah. I can do like a light gloss that'll come off really easy. You might be pink for the rest of the day. Rick [00:01:17]: I'm in the 180 booth today, so I don't care what kind of lipstick I have on. Tonnika Haynes [00:01:21]: Okay, we'll get you some lips. Rick [00:01:23]: Rick's trying to hold it. Rick White [00:01:23]: I'll just tell people the wig came off, but the lipstick wouldn't. Tonnika Haynes [00:01:28]: Did you bring your wig? Rick [00:01:29]: I did not. But I do have all my gold. Tonnika Haynes [00:01:34]: Maybe I can find some. Something with a glitter in it. Rick [00:01:38]: I brought glasses. I bought like 15, 20 glasses with me. My money glasses. And I bought some gold necklaces and I got some gold rings too. And I got a huge surprise. Tonnika Haynes [00:01:52]: You need to work on that, John. What the hell do you do with yourself all day? Other than this, what do I do? What do you do? Do you even go to work anymore? Rick [00:02:00]: I go there, yes, I do. I spend an hour there. Tonnika Haynes [00:02:04]: Sometimes an hour a month, sometimes a week or. Rick [00:02:07]: Well, I try to get there every week. Today is the official day Cutter is talking with. Cutter's my oldest son. I don't think you've met him yet, but you will. Today he's talking to QuickBooks and this is his first step. Of doing the finances for Firm Automotive. Tonnika Haynes [00:02:25]: Okay. Rick [00:02:26]: I love it. You know, he's already involved with the finances of Firm enterprises. That's not a problem. But he's taking that next level step of getting involved heavier in Farm Automotive. He's getting ready to start doing payroll. Okay. I'm excited. You know what? Tonnika Haynes [00:02:41]: What? Rick [00:02:41]: I only have to go 30 minutes a week then. Yeah. Tonnika Haynes [00:02:44]: I just do still do finances and payroll when I hired virtual bookkeeping, so that's something. I'm still gonna do the payroll. I'm due to taxes until I'm really comfortable with them. Yeah. So we've come a long way. Rick [00:02:57]: He started doing sales tax. Yeah, that's easy. Tonnika Haynes [00:03:00]: But yeah, sales tax is easy. Yeah. Rick [00:03:02]: So quick. Yeah. And I'm not promoting QuickBooks. By no means. But my coach really likes me to use QuickBooks. Tonnika Haynes [00:03:10]: Who is your coach? Rick [00:03:11]: I don't remember. His name is Ricky. Hey, speaking of that, Ricky's here with us today. Ricky. Tonnika Haynes [00:03:21]: So look, you're sitting here with two of your students. Rick White [00:03:23]: Yeah. Tonnika Haynes [00:03:24]: That's funny. We're all on the same mic. Yeah, we are on the ones and the twos. This is crazy. So, yeah, I was looking at the dates because I was trying to figure out when I met everybody because, like, it all gets. Becomes a blur. So it's 2021 and it seems like so long ago, but it's not that long. Rick [00:03:40]: No. Tonnika Haynes [00:03:40]: And I'm just thinking we're celebrating anniversary. But when did you start with Rick? Rick [00:03:46]: I don't remember. When my flower came over. Rick White [00:03:47]: Oh, no, no, that wasn't that long ago. Rick [00:03:49]: It was 2019 or 20. It was right after Covid. Rick White [00:03:53]: No, I think it might have been 21. Rick [00:03:55]: Yeah. Because I had to finish up with the other coaching company that I was involved with. Tonnika Haynes [00:04:00]: Yeah. Rick [00:04:01]: And I kept telling him about six months at the end of my contract with him, I said, get ready. Tonnika Haynes [00:04:05]: Oh, you just contract? Rick [00:04:06]: Yeah. The big show's coming to you. Get ready. Tonnika Haynes [00:04:09]: Yeah. I think first ASTA was of course September 21, and we went to the wing spot for the pre party. Rick [00:04:16]: Right. Tonnika Haynes [00:04:16]: And I was on the other side. Like, Rick was in the patio. And I told Dion. I was like, I want to coach with him. Cause I had been stalking everything from asog and Lucas had said it was a good coaching company. So I think I started in 2022, so that's cool. Rick [00:04:30]: So I had been to ASOG one time before that. That'd be 2020. And I was coaching with you when I went. Rick White [00:04:36]: So. Yeah. Tonnika Haynes [00:04:38]: Okay, so then it's. Yeah. Rick [00:04:39]: Long before You? Tonnika Haynes [00:04:41]: Yeah. Cause you met me, and. Well, I met you, and you. You embraced me, and it was great. Rick [00:04:45]: And I only known him for, you know, like, ever. Rick White [00:04:49]: I think we met 2015. Rick [00:04:51]: 2015. 2011. 20. Rick White [00:04:54]: I think it was 2015. Well, no, that's not true. We probably. We were hanging out. Holy crap. No, no. Rick [00:05:03]: He's old, folks. He's really old. Rick White [00:05:05]: 2001. Rick [00:05:06]: Yeah. Rick White [00:05:07]: ASA, the National. The annual meeting in Vegas. Rick [00:05:13]: It was. Yes. Rick White [00:05:14]: That's when Rick Sharbro. You and I. And so we've known each other for Rick [00:05:18]: a long, long time. Yeah. Rick White [00:05:20]: And then. But it was funny because I think it was in 2015. I did a class at Vision, and he come up to me afterwards and called me a name I didn't like, and he said, where were you six months ago? Rick [00:05:33]: Yeah. Tonnika Haynes [00:05:35]: Because you had signed up with the other company. Rick [00:05:36]: Yeah. Tonnika Haynes [00:05:37]: Oh, so did you have the 180 biz when you met the first time? Rick White [00:05:41]: No, I had my shop back. Tonnika Haynes [00:05:42]: Okay, so your shop owner. Rick White [00:05:43]: Yeah. Tonnika Haynes [00:05:44]: Let's talk about full circles and pivoting and all that stuff. So when we were in the 20 group together, right. You were still working in the shop? Rick [00:05:51]: I was, yes. Tonnika Haynes [00:05:52]: When did you stop? Like, when was you. When did you finally become an absentee? Rick White [00:05:57]: About 10 minutes after the group went there. Tonnika Haynes [00:06:00]: So everybody told you to get the heck out of the way, and you. You did it. Rick [00:06:03]: I did. You know, it's. After everybody left, it was like I. Everybody gave me. There was such. Tonnika Haynes [00:06:11]: Such. Rick [00:06:12]: Such good advice with all the people coming to my shop. Tonnika Haynes [00:06:15]: Right. Rick [00:06:15]: And it meant so much to me. Rick White [00:06:19]: That was a really good event. Yeah. I really enjoyed it. Tonnika Haynes [00:06:22]: That was one of my favorites. Rick White [00:06:23]: My goal was that wasn't the Brad moment. Didn't make that your favorite. Tonnika Haynes [00:06:26]: No, that was memorable. Oh, that'll never not be funny. Rick White [00:06:32]: Because it was Brad, you, Christine. And then I was right there. Tonnika Haynes [00:06:36]: I was like, what? Rick White [00:06:37]: And Brian Walker was kill in a class. And I thought. Christine jumped. I thought she was gonna end up in my lap. Tonnika Haynes [00:06:44]: That was wild. Rick White [00:06:45]: It was so funny. Rick [00:06:47]: A second away from having all that on video, but I'm glad it's not a second away. Tonnika Haynes [00:06:52]: Could you imagine what Michael would do with that? Today the big bird was across from Rick [00:06:55]: me doing a video of me because we're screwing with each other, you know, like we normally do. And he texted me, said, look at Brad. About the time I looked at Brad. That's when he fell over on. Tonnika Haynes [00:07:05]: You had no idea. Oh, thinking about that. I just think about how many wonderful people I've met through conferences Networking and coaching. Because that's the first time I met Kim and Brian. Rick [00:07:15]: Yes. Yeah, all of them. Tonnika Haynes [00:07:17]: So that's crazy. Rick White [00:07:18]: It's kind of funny because Brenda started pushing on doing group. We're celebrating 20 years this year. Tonnika Haynes [00:07:24]: Oh, okay. Rick White [00:07:25]: So that's pretty cool. July 1st will be our 20th anniversary. 2017. Brenda started talking to me about doing group coaching. Before that, it had all been one on one and I kept pushing back and kept pushing, but usually it takes me about two years to go. Oh, okay. So in 2019 we started and there are still people in the group from the original 2019. And just the family that we've created is like, we knew we were gonna do something really special, but what it has done is just off the hook. Rick White [00:08:03]: Good. We actually have had people leave. Tonnika Haynes [00:08:07]: They come back. Rick White [00:08:08]: I saw that. Yeah, there's a bunch that leave and then they're like, man, they're not like you. And it's funny, Jeff Ford, he tried a couple other things and he called me up about a year later and he said, you're an asshole. That's what John called me too. And I said, yeah, I know, I know. I said, what's the matter? He says, these other two groups would have been fine if I hadn't been with you. And he's back again right now. He's actually coaching. Tonnika Haynes [00:08:35]: Yeah, he's coaching. And are you coaching? Are you going to. Rick [00:08:38]: Oh, no, no, no, no. Tonnika Haynes [00:08:39]: Are you built for coaching? Rick [00:08:40]: I'm not going to be coach. I'm never going to coach nobody. Tonnika Haynes [00:08:43]: I don't mind helping. Rick [00:08:44]: I don't mind assisting, but I don't have the knowledge or the skill to coach with somebody. But I will. I will assist and help. My passion is to help the industry in any way I can. Okay. The number one thing I do for 180 biz is I assist him. Rick White [00:09:00]: Rick, you know, he's been great. And it's. It's really kind of cool, though to see the people, like, even people that aren't in the group. Pat and Wendy shorts. I'll get a text from them every once in a while. Just saying hi. Tonnika Haynes [00:09:15]: I saw Sarah yesterday. Rick White [00:09:17]: Yes, Sarah. We sat down and talked. Tonnika Haynes [00:09:18]: Yeah. Rick White [00:09:19]: How long do we talk to Sarah? Half hour, 45 minutes. Tonnika Haynes [00:09:21]: Yesterday I didn't realize that Liz and Keith were in the group. When I was in a group, I didn't. Yeah. Because we've all changed so much. Rick [00:09:27]: Everybody. Tonnika Haynes [00:09:28]: Everybody's changed so much. Shake and bake, baby shaking and baking. But it was. It's all good. I mean, Benji and Christy, I consider Benji my brother. Rick White [00:09:36]: Yeah. Tonnika Haynes [00:09:36]: And I wouldn't have met him if it were not for 180 biz. So that's, that's wild. That connection. Rick White [00:09:42]: It is so cool. The people that. The connections that are made besides the learning and the, you know, the support and encouragement and everything else. Tonnika Haynes [00:09:52]: Cause a KPI formula. All these formulas can be basically the same from group to group. Pretty much math is going to math. But the connections and the networking for me has been a game changer. Like Benji and I still laugh daily. And that's one of the things I wrote down. It's like my aro when I started was $252. Rick [00:10:11]: We learned that was not good. Tonnika Haynes [00:10:12]: That is not good. It's like you guys are actually making money doing this. Like we're doing more than breaking even. So that was crazy. In the pocket you can put money. What? And I don't have to be here every day. So for me, because I'm such a hard nosed person, like, I don't really listen, but I know that about myself. So I have to force myself to just drink the. Tonnika Haynes [00:10:32]: Drink the Kool Aid. Drink the. Just do it. Because I'll just question everything. Rick [00:10:37]: There's nothing the matter with that. Tonnika Haynes [00:10:39]: But the thing is. But when I stopped and I started doing it like my ARO now is year to date was 8:20 when I checked it last. So that's a big difference. And I can't say it's all when Rick [00:10:48]: you checked it last week. Tonnika Haynes [00:10:49]: Yeah. Rick [00:10:50]: You not check it daily. Tonnika Haynes [00:10:51]: I have to check it daily. Rick [00:10:52]: Weekly. Tonnika Haynes [00:10:52]: I do not have to check my checking account. All of those. I do. Only thing I have to check is payroll. Make sure they get paid. Yeah. And my flight schedule. Rick [00:11:00]: And your flight schedule. Tonnika Haynes [00:11:01]: Exactly. Make sure I get to my plane on time. Rick [00:11:03]: I love that. Tonnika Haynes [00:11:03]: But you think about all the things that we used to worry about day to day. Rick [00:11:06]: So almost to the point of what I call a recovering shop owner. Yes. Tonnika Haynes [00:11:10]: That's a good one. Rick [00:11:10]: I love it. Tonnika Haynes [00:11:11]: You know, Cause you think like Rick used to tell me, you I mother too much. I will smother everybody. And I think I need to know about every single car that came through or every single customer. I know about no cars. I remember the customers and I want to meet the new ones. And so if I see a customer and I'm in the back office, it's like, oh, such and such is here. Let me make sure I speak. But other than that, if you ask me about you, I don't know. Tonnika Haynes [00:11:35]: I've trained myself out Of a job. I've hired myself out of a job. And it feels really good to provide. Rick White [00:11:40]: But how? You know, it's funny, you're like, there's this curtain like in the middle. Right. And on this side of the curtain, you know, depending upon where we are, we start as control enthusiasts. Right. We can't say control freak. That's not politically correct. Tonnika Haynes [00:11:54]: You can't say that anymore. Nope. Rick White [00:11:55]: But then as you get to that curtain, it gets scarier and scarier. The thought of being able to let go and then actually run a business instead of being in it, micromanaging, managing and everything else. And it's really cool because tomorrow I'm doing a class on delegate your way to freedom. So that's really gonna be a great class. And then for the Rick live, we're doing the five stages of authority which is building even more into that. It's gonna be a full day class on how to traverse. How do I actually delegate? Tonnika Haynes [00:12:33]: Because you think you're the smartest person and if they don't do it the way I say do it, then it's not going to get done. And I got to sit there and look at them, whatever. But it's almost like raising a kid. You know, a lot of people, their shop is very personal. It's not like, you know, the multi shop operators and they have five, seven shops. No, my one shop is my baby. Those employees are my family and I want it to feel like that. But on the other hand, if you sit there and tie your kids shoes every day of their lives, they're going to never learn how to tie their shoes. Tonnika Haynes [00:13:02]: And so when do they actually graduate? So when do I graduate from being. That's funny. A baby's mama into an adult mom. And then like I know that my kids can go get that driver's license, they can go to the store by themselves and if they need me, they can come to me. So the same thing with employees. They know what to do, they know what the outcome should be, they know what those numbers mean because I don't have to hide that. And that's another thing that I always like, oh, you can't let people, you can't let them know the money. But if you teach them the money, Rick White [00:13:31]: they help you make it. Tonnika Haynes [00:13:32]: They help you make it because they understand that all of that money is not going in my pocket. Rick White [00:13:36]: Right. Tonnika Haynes [00:13:36]: Yeah. So this is how we pay. Yes. We're going to share on that goal. And you give a goal, it's like, okay, this year I want X amount of dollars this year. I want a million. Because everybody thinks that's the magic number right there. Rick White [00:13:47]: Scott, go $1 million. Tonnika Haynes [00:13:50]: So. But everybody wants that million. It's like, how do we get there? And you tell your team, this year, we're going to shoot for a million, and this is the plan. And they look at you and say, well, why don't we just make it 1.25 Boston. Just like, well, damn, everybody's drinking the Kool Aid. I love it, too. But again, shop owners get. They're afraid of that. Tonnika Haynes [00:14:12]: Because you feel like you lost control. I do not feel like I've lost control anymore. I feel like I've built a business, and I do not have a glorified job. Rick [00:14:22]: You built people around you. Tonnika Haynes [00:14:24]: Exactly. Rick White [00:14:24]: The whole idea. And this is one of the things that's really hard. When we start out by ourselves, we're doing everything, and then we hire people to help us, not replace us. Tonnika Haynes [00:14:35]: And then. Yeah. You still want to have the hat on. Rick White [00:14:38]: Yeah. Tonnika Haynes [00:14:38]: Like, you're going to let you hold my hat for a little bit and give it back. You call it scheduling your hats. Rick White [00:14:42]: Yeah, yeah. And. And I think a really big part of this is being able to say, I need to hire people smarter than me. Rick [00:14:49]: Amen. Rick White [00:14:50]: Because when they can do the job better, like, one of the things I like to do, if I'm interviewing somebody, I actually want to be able to learn something from them in the interview. Like, if they can teach me something in the interview, that's value. That's like, okay, I'm interested. Rick [00:15:04]: Yeah. Rick White [00:15:05]: Right. Because you're only going to get, like, if you're. As the owner, if you are the top dog, the business never. You are the biggest limitation on the business. Right, right, right. But if you hire people that have better skill sets in different areas than you do now, the business gets better. Tonnika Haynes [00:15:25]: Mo better. Rick White [00:15:26]: Mo better. Tonnika Haynes [00:15:26]: Mo better. Rick [00:15:27]: I love mo better. Tonnika Haynes [00:15:28]: I like mo better. You and mo money. Yeah, we like mo better. Rick [00:15:32]: Yeah. Tonnika Haynes [00:15:32]: Yes. So that's. That's the whole. That's the thing. That's just the biggest thing to get Rick [00:15:37]: to what we're talking about now. The biggest change was he recommended me. Read the book One Minute Manager. Tonnika Haynes [00:15:42]: That is a great book. Rick [00:15:43]: That was the huge change. Now, the new One Minute Manager is so different, so I can deal with the younger people and understand the way they want to do things. I just finished reading that, listening to that on Spotify, and I recommended Cutter and Winston both to listen to it because that's the program we need to implement. So they can step back like I've done. Tonnika Haynes [00:16:06]: But the fact that you said you are even willing to read and learn is another thing. People think they don't have time, but you don't have to pick up a book. You have so much time. Oh, so much to get audible or Spotify. Don't watch tv. Like right now, my book that has been on repeat if I'm on a flight or whatever is buy back your time. Rick White [00:16:27]: Love that book. Tonnika Haynes [00:16:27]: It's a great one. That One Minute Manager and New One Minute Manager and who Stole my Cheese or something like that. Those are the most simple list things to listen to. And it calls you out on your bull crap. And if you just keep listening to it the same way you learned a song, the same way people learn the American language. Just repeat on repeat. Just listen to it and it becomes a part of your DNA and you're just. If you implement one thing and then another, and then you'll say, oh, yeah, they're talking to me. Tonnika Haynes [00:16:54]: You're calling me out. It's like being in church on Sunday morning. You think the preacher told me, like, wait a minute. You talking to me, master? Rick [00:17:00]: Was he hanging out, being in his class? Tonnika Haynes [00:17:02]: Yeah, you saw what I did. Preacher, he talking about me. But those books are just telling us how to do it. Rick [00:17:09]: Amen. Part of the blueprint. Tonnika Haynes [00:17:10]: They are. Rick White [00:17:11]: Yeah. So Zig Ziglar once heard him say, you gotta do something. Read something 16 times before you can actually make it yours. And if you want to go with a couple other books from that series, there's a book called Gung Ho and a book called Raving Fans. Tonnika Haynes [00:17:29]: Raving Fans. I think I have that one downloaded. Rick White [00:17:31]: Those two are just amazing. Gung Ho's about getting the team working together. Raving Fans is about creating the experience. Tonnika Haynes [00:17:39]: Well, you know the book that was about getting out of my own way that you recommended was. Oh, Misfire. Rick White [00:17:46]: Yeah. Tonnika Haynes [00:17:47]: Is it Misfire? I believe that's the one. Rick White [00:17:49]: Yeah. Mitch. Tonnika Haynes [00:17:50]: Yeah. Rick White [00:17:51]: Mitch Schneider wrote it. Tonnika Haynes [00:17:52]: That was a good one as well. Just getting out your way and let your be more than just a shop owner. That's wrenching and trying to answer the phone at the same time. And shop ownership is not about being in control of everything. Rick [00:18:07]: That's right. It's not. Tonnika Haynes [00:18:08]: I don't think so. Because I think we try to be in control of everything. You're gonna try to control how that technician does his job from start to finish. And that means you're raising your stress level. And one, you don't trust your tech. Rick [00:18:19]: Yeah, right. Tonnika Haynes [00:18:19]: Like, you're micromanaging everything, and you think you're helping, but you're really getting in the way of learning. Rick [00:18:24]: Daddy syndrome. Tonnika Haynes [00:18:25]: Mama. Mama syndrome. I did that. Rick White [00:18:28]: Mama syndrome. Mama syndrome's different than daddy syndrome. Rick [00:18:32]: It really is, ain't it? Tonnika Haynes [00:18:33]: But I still. I still do. Rick [00:18:34]: Not on your head. Tonnika Haynes [00:18:35]: Yeah. Rick [00:18:35]: Yeah. Rick White [00:18:35]: But Daddy syndrome is how I need to have all the answers. Mama syndrome is I gotta wipe everybody's noses and make sure they feel hugged and loved. Tonnika Haynes [00:18:44]: Yeah, I can do. I still do the hugging and loving through. Because I have time. Rick [00:18:48]: Right? Yeah. Rick White [00:18:50]: And people wanna be seen, heard, and appreciated. Right. Valued. So it's important to have that. Tonnika Haynes [00:18:55]: But they don't want you to come up there and tie a grown man's shoes. Rick White [00:18:58]: No. Tonnika Haynes [00:18:58]: Right. Rick White [00:18:59]: No. Like, we gotta get off, you mean. Tonnika Haynes [00:19:00]: Let me get that off your nose, baby. If you don't get. Lady. Rick White [00:19:03]: No, that's my no, no spot. Don't touch that. Rick [00:19:05]: My. Tonnika Haynes [00:19:06]: No, no spot. I'm a grown man. Let me see. Let me see. So I have a question for Rick, and then we both have to ask this question because we both have big personalities. Rick [00:19:19]: Yeah, we do. Tonnika Haynes [00:19:19]: Well, you have a big personality, too. When you first met me, when I first started coaching with you, what. What did you think about me in this one? Rick [00:19:27]: I. Rick White [00:19:29]: Man. Rick [00:19:30]: Oh, I want to hear this. Tonnika Haynes [00:19:31]: I want to hear. Rick White [00:19:31]: No, no, no, no. I really enjoy it. If I get somebody in the group and I say something or we recommend something, and they just do it. They just do what? They just do it. That actually scares me a little bit. Tonnika Haynes [00:19:47]: Okay. Rick White [00:19:48]: Because I don't want lemmings. I want people that are going to push back. I want people that are willing to take the information, kind of tumble it, smooth it out for them, and then implement, right? So when I get people that have very strong characters. Tonnika Haynes [00:20:11]: That was very safe. That was safe. Rick White [00:20:14]: Very strong characters. I actually see it as a challenge, and it makes me a better coach because I've got to be able to get through the armor. Right. Because a lot of times that strong character is really a defense mechanism for what's going on in the back, which is a lot of fear and. And doubt and, you know, uncertainty. So we put this bluster up front. Tonnika Haynes [00:20:39]: He ain't gonna get me. Rick White [00:20:41]: And it's just being able to find the crack and being able to weasel in a little bit, and, you know, Tonnika Haynes [00:20:46]: I ain't got no cracks, Rick. Rick White [00:20:48]: Yeah. So, yeah, it was funny. I was teaching a class at flaca, the accelerator event, and we were talking about influence, and I said one of the worst things you can do to try to influence somebody is tell them what to do, because you push, they push back. It's just. That's complimentary behavior. I said, watch this. And I told the guy what I wanted to do doing the class. And then I started asking questions. Rick White [00:21:27]: And by question three, the person that I was talking to said what I wanted to say. Tonnika Haynes [00:21:33]: Yeah. Rick White [00:21:35]: And I looked at the guy and he went like he couldn't believe it. And I was like, people are always going to believe what they say more than anybody else because they want to have the idea. So for me, I just. I'll just ask questions until someone goes, oh, yeah, like that makes sense. Right. And so my coaching has come a Rick [00:22:02]: long way, to say the least. Rick White [00:22:06]: When I first started. When I first started coaching shops in Rick [00:22:09]: 2003, it was three before y'. Tonnika Haynes [00:22:11]: All, we're so sorry. Rick White [00:22:12]: No, no, no, no. My coaching in 2003 was with a sledgehammer. It was my way or the highway. I was the biggest. Tonnika Haynes [00:22:20]: He was. Rick White [00:22:21]: If we could listen to calls back in 2003, we would be rolling on the floor. Tonnika Haynes [00:22:27]: That's. Rick [00:22:28]: Oh, that would be cool. Some of them calls. Tonnika Haynes [00:22:30]: Yeah. Rick [00:22:31]: Some of them say about this, Rick, Rick White [00:22:35]: today, Today, it's much like, I don't need to be right. I don't have to prove a point. Tonnika Haynes [00:22:42]: So you've grown as a business owner now you're delegating. You've got other coaches. Rick White [00:22:48]: Yeah. So. Tonnika Haynes [00:22:49]: So you. Same journey. We've all been on a similar journey. Rick White [00:22:52]: It really is because for. For up until about the last. Really about the last 18 months, I've been the worst shop owner in the world because I'm in the base, right. And I was. Brenda and I were talking and I said something to her, and she just kind of looked at me and she was like, duh. I looked her and I said, brenda, you realize I've spent the last 18 or 19 years doing the. Doing everything I can to become the very, very best coach I can become, but I haven't been the very best business owner. So now we're. Rick White [00:23:27]: I'm shifting focus, and we're. We're not changing how we do things like the. The message and the content and the, you know, the community and everything like that are the same. But now it's starting to pull back a little bit and say, okay, I'm gonna let other people do this. Rick [00:23:42]: I got it talked into going to fishing. Tonnika Haynes [00:23:44]: I heard. Rick [00:23:44]: Yeah, Yeah. Tonnika Haynes [00:23:45]: I hope you make it back. No, that's not just fishing, though. Rick [00:23:48]: No, it's not it's an adventure. Yeah, the whole thing's an adventure. You should come with us. Tonnika Haynes [00:23:53]: No, I shouldn't. Rick [00:23:53]: Yes, you'd love. Tonnika Haynes [00:23:54]: I had this black girl over in the Amazon dead. Something ate me. No, that sounds like a Deadline episode. Oh, no. Rick [00:24:00]: Most of the people down there are black, but they speak Portuguese. Tonnika Haynes [00:24:03]: They not black. I'm African American from United States of America. They do not like me down there. No. I need all my fingers, toes, all my lim. Rick [00:24:13]: I've been a dozen times. Tonnika Haynes [00:24:14]: I go fishing at my daddy house and get a couple brim. I'll be fine. Rick [00:24:17]: I love it. Tonnika Haynes [00:24:18]: I'll send me some pictures. Rick White [00:24:19]: I'll tell you what. Tonnika Haynes [00:24:21]: Send me some pictures. Rick [00:24:22]: That's it. Rick White [00:24:22]: It's been so long since I've taken time off. John and Brenda have been conspiring. Rick [00:24:27]: Yes, we have. Tonnika Haynes [00:24:28]: Good. Rick White [00:24:28]: So John's like, come on, I want to go on the 19th of October. I'm like, I don't know. I got so much going on. Brenda with her mom and everything. I said. And Brenda went, you're going to. Tonnika Haynes [00:24:39]: Good for you. Rick White [00:24:40]: And she goes, you're not taking a computer. You're not taking your iPad. You may take your phone to take pictures. Tonnika Haynes [00:24:46]: Completely disconnect. Rick White [00:24:48]: You are disconnecting from the 19th to the 28th. Tonnika Haynes [00:24:50]: That's gonna be some good sleep. Rick White [00:24:52]: So I'm. Rick [00:24:54]: Well, you can't call nobody when you're out fishing. Your phone doesn't work. Tonnika Haynes [00:24:57]: That's good. Rick [00:24:58]: So I put it on airplane mode so the battery don't run down so I can take pictures. Okay. And it works when you come back to the big boat because you got a WI fi, because they have Starlink WI fi. But when the boat's in motion, moving from one place to the other, it worked out well because the signal to the Starlink. Okay, so he's going to completely disconnect. Rick White [00:25:18]: It'll be nice. And I'm not worried about it because I got such an amazing team. Tonnika Haynes [00:25:23]: Right. Rick White [00:25:24]: Like, they're ready to rock and roll. Tonnika Haynes [00:25:26]: So I'm so proud of us. Rick White [00:25:27]: Yeah. Tonnika Haynes [00:25:28]: That's so crazy. Rick [00:25:29]: Yes. Tonnika Haynes [00:25:30]: Students and the teachers and everybody's on a similar journey learning how to disconnect. Like, it was like, how are you away from your shop forever? Like, I've been on a plane every weekend for the last couple months just trying to go to the different shows because I want to experience a lot of different coaching shows, trade shows, people and network, and of course, the podcast. How do you do that? They've got it. They've got it. We've grown by 24% from this time last year. So just looking at those numbers, and I'm like, they got it and they don't need me. It's like when your kids leave and they don't need you, except when it's time for some money. So that's what they. Tonnika Haynes [00:26:07]: These kids. Rick White [00:26:08]: Sounds like you need a new kid. Tonnika Haynes [00:26:10]: No, this podcast is the kid. I've got a lot of kids. I've got a lot of automotive nephews and nieces that I love. That I love the kids. I keep saying that, but. Rick White [00:26:19]: You mean like Katie? Tonnika Haynes [00:26:21]: Like Katie. That is my boo. Katie and Ash and even Braxton. And I love the 30 and belows because they're so smart, but they're so stupid all at the same time. And it's the best thing. So I think I was saying, I was at the institute's leadership thing, and Michael had us writing down our new why and trying to come up with that. And it made me cry a little bit. But then also said that what I've been praying for is not what God gave me. Tonnika Haynes [00:26:46]: And I'll talk to him about that later, though. Yeah. I was asking for, like, an apartment in Jamaica, and he gave me a podcast and more people to network with. And I was like, that's not. It's not what I meant. Rick [00:26:56]: Kind of a ways away from that. Tonnika Haynes [00:26:58]: Yeah. I was like, when I say expand my territory, Lord, I was talking about some money and some land. Rick [00:27:01]: Not people, maybe. Tonnika Haynes [00:27:03]: But pointing to people is fun. Yeah. So pouring into people has been really fun. And going to church times. Rick [00:27:10]: What we think we want is not Tonnika Haynes [00:27:12]: what he wants us to have. It's not what we need. Rick [00:27:14]: Not how we're going to get to where he wants us to. Tonnika Haynes [00:27:15]: Exactly. Rick White [00:27:16]: It's not what we need. Right? Tonnika Haynes [00:27:17]: Yep. Not yet anyway. Rick [00:27:21]: What Ricker teaches yet later is not our friend. But maybe it's your friend today. Tonnika Haynes [00:27:26]: Maybe. Maybe not yet. But I'm really enjoying it. Rick White [00:27:31]: See, I like not yet. Tonnika Haynes [00:27:32]: I like not yet because I have a tech. He was. I mean, he is. He's still working on it. And there's another thing. A young tech that I'm working on building up. And I had to work on building his confidence because he would just get so frustrated with stuff. Like, why are you so mad? You're like, just started doing this. Tonnika Haynes [00:27:47]: You're not a master tech yet. And then he. I said, no, you can't do it yet. Yeah, yeah. Literally put it on a sticky note in some marker and then put yet. Yeah, yet, honey. Because there's a lot of things that I can't do yet. You know, I'm not a skilled podcaster yet. Rick [00:28:04]: Oh, but you are, girl. So you're so natural with it. Tonnika Haynes [00:28:07]: Thank you. I'm trying. I'm doing. See, we don't try. Rick [00:28:13]: That's why I beg to be on here today. Tonnika Haynes [00:28:15]: Yeah, we're doing Rick [00:28:18]: every. Every one of your shows are so powerful, so full of information. You know, I just can't stand to miss one of the episodes thinking that you might be telling somebody else how I picked you up at the airport. Yes. You know, or maybe you might be talking about Michael in some way and his funny Big Bird shirt. Tonnika Haynes [00:28:36]: Yes, Big Bird. Everybody knows. I mean, we're such a good family. We're just a motley crew of nut jobs that happened just started automotive. Rick White [00:28:42]: But how cool is that? Tonnika Haynes [00:28:43]: It is the coolest thing in the world. And Jordan thinks it's funny. Like Asta last year, he was like, ma, all your friends are just weird. And I was like, I know. This is the best. And then to see him on stage with Benji with the suit and them dancing, it's like, yeah, baby, your village is never meant to look just like you. And it is what it is. Family is not only DNA. Rick [00:29:07]: No. Tonnika Haynes [00:29:08]: So this is such a blessing that I met Lucas through lurking on ASOG and he says, you need to coach with him. And I took the leap of faith, no matter how uncomfortable I was walking into asta. And it just amazes me that so many people have not had training and they think they can't afford it or they think they're not gonna get anything from it. Rick [00:29:31]: You cannot afford it. Tonnika Haynes [00:29:32]: You cannot afford it. Cause like, look, aro 252 to 824 days a week. And that was five days a week at 252. I'm at four days a week. Absentee owner, 820. And I know it's not the biggest number in the world, but we don't do foreign and we don't do diesel. But that is real growth. Rick [00:29:47]: And that's number for your market. Tonnika Haynes [00:29:49]: And that's a lot for my market. And here's the thing is you've got a class. And no matter how many times I can hear the same information over and over again, I am going to keep going to class. I'm going to keep learning because there might be just something I did not hear. I was telling somebody, like, one of my favorite movies is Friday, which is a very ignorant movie, but it's funny and there's scenes and everybody knows those little scenes. I said, hey, there's a scene when she's cussing Craig out, but did you realize that there was a man laying behind her in that bed while she was on the phone with her boyfriend? They're like, no. I said, yeah, that's when you listen to something over and over. You watch something over, you see it from a different angle. Rick [00:30:25]: Amen. Tonnika Haynes [00:30:26]: Or you discover something different. So that's why training has to be essential, and it has to be repeated. And if you ever think you're too good for training or coaching, then it's time to exit stage right. That way, something to learn. Rick [00:30:39]: It's time to retire, really. Rick White [00:30:41]: I don't think it's. I don't. For me, I think there's, like, three core issues. The first is they're on fire, and they just can't get away. Like, they don't recognize you got to invest to get. To start changing. They want the fire to go out, but the fire's not gonna go out without some water. And the water is training. Rick White [00:31:03]: Right. Knowledge, coaching. And so that's the first thing I see, is they're just on fire and completely reactive. The second is I should be able to figure this out. It's not that I'm too good for it, but I should be able to figure this out. And you can. Just takes a long time. It takes a really long time. Tonnika Haynes [00:31:28]: And things are on fire while you're trying to figure it out. Rick White [00:31:31]: Yeah. And I mean, there's a lot, like, there's a lot of scars that come with that. Right. And there's OE and ope. Right. Which is your own experience and other people's experience. So much better to learn from other people than it is to do it yourself. I don't need to burn myself on a stove. Rick White [00:31:49]: I'll watch somebody else do it and go, damn, I'm. I don't think I'll do that, you know, and it's one of those things. So that's it. And then the other thing I see sometimes is they try coaching, and I use the word try, and it didn't work out for them. And then they're allowing that mistake to bite them twice. Tonnika Haynes [00:32:09]: Oh, yeah. Rick White [00:32:10]: Because the coaching didn't work. And then they say to themselves, all coaching is bad. And it's not just like auto repair doctors, anything else. There's good, there's bad. And it's being able to find one that fits kind of your groove. And they're not going to tell you. Like, I've had people come to me, and I start talking to them about joining the group, and I suggest. Can we just be honest for a second? They're like, yeah, what's up? You don't want a coach. Rick White [00:32:43]: You want a cheerleader. Tonnika Haynes [00:32:45]: Don't we all do? Rick White [00:32:47]: Yeah, but I'm not a cheerleader. I'm a coach. So I'm going to tell you stuff you don't want to hear. I'm going to tell you stuff I got to tell you. This is the funniest story. If you ever get to see Megan, ask her about this story. At one point, I was coaching Eric and Megan, which I still am, and they were really distracted, and I said, what's the matter? And one of their boys was getting bullied at school, and Megan wanted to go scorched earth. No surprise, right? Tonnika Haynes [00:33:24]: Mama bear's coming. Rick White [00:33:25]: Mama Bear? Rick [00:33:26]: Yeah. Rick White [00:33:27]: And I said, you got to let him figure this out. You got to give him the tools. But it's his responsibility to figure this out. You can't go in and rescue him Tonnika Haynes [00:33:38]: because then he'll get picked on more because your mommy came to the school. Rick White [00:33:42]: Not even that. What happens in 20 years when there's another bully at work? Tonnika Haynes [00:33:46]: Facts. Rick White [00:33:47]: Do you see what I'm saying? Rick [00:33:48]: Yeah. Rick White [00:33:48]: You got to give the boy the tools. We are here. I said to them, we are not here as parents to protect our children. We're here to get them ready. Right. We're here. I'm trying to remember the word I usually use, and I can't think of it right now. We're not here to protect them. Rick White [00:34:08]: We're here to get them. We're here to get them ready. Tonnika Haynes [00:34:11]: Get them ready. Rick [00:34:12]: Yeah. Rick White [00:34:13]: Prepared. We're here to prepare them. Thank you. And that's really what it's about. Right? We are here to protect them, but we're not here to, like, stop life from happening to them. Tonnika Haynes [00:34:23]: No, you gotta take training wheels off. Rick White [00:34:25]: They're a whole bunch of people coming into the workforce today that are completely unprepared for disappointment and rejection and failure. Tonnika Haynes [00:34:35]: And they think it's bullying, and it's not. Rick White [00:34:36]: It's just life because they've never felt or seen it before. Tonnika Haynes [00:34:40]: Participation, trophies and all those things. And. Yeah. Oh, the world. Everybody's supposed. No, everybody's not gonna love you. I'm so sorry. Your mama loves you. Tonnika Haynes [00:34:48]: Maybe your daddy will. But no, that's it. Rick [00:34:50]: Not everybody. Tonnika Haynes [00:34:51]: Not everybody has to love you. So you're right. Rick White [00:34:53]: And I. And I like my kids. They understand the only thing they're entitled to in life is Opportunity. And that opportunity often looks like hard work, and it has an expiration date. So if you don't take advantage of it, it goes away. Tonnika Haynes [00:35:08]: Right. Rick White [00:35:09]: But there's another one will come by. It's not a dislike. Don't stare at that one. Look for the next one. Right. But you've got to be able to recognize that it's okay to look for help. Right. And realize, yeah, it's tough. Rick White [00:35:25]: And it is tough. And even now you have challenges. Oh, yeah, right. Those challenges don't go away. They get bigger and better. Tonnika Haynes [00:35:32]: Oh, they get bigger. Rick White [00:35:33]: Yeah. New levels, you know? Tonnika Haynes [00:35:35]: New levels, Right. Rick White [00:35:36]: It's just a fact of life. That's the way I think the good Lord made. I made the world. And it's not a bad thing. Tonnika Haynes [00:35:43]: It's not. You think it's so hard. Like, I had one. I'm having one. Going through it right now. And the monetary side of it, it cost me $20,000. And called Chad and I called Benji, and Chad looked at me and he said, that's one month of profit. And I said, but it's 20. Tonnika Haynes [00:35:59]: He's like, but you've got it cause you've done the work. I'm like, but it's $20,000. He said, but you've got it Cause you've done the work. It's like, okay, brother, you're right. Let's keep on moving. Because eight years ago, I wouldn't had a $20,000 problem. And if I did, I wouldn't have been able to afford a $20,000 problem. But through coaching and networking and 180 biz, I was able to and Detect Auto, because that's my sponsor, I'm able to navigate that so much better, lead through it, and actually coach my team on how to deal with that situation. Tonnika Haynes [00:36:37]: And then the HR side of that situation, they were able to watch me deal with that without tears, without cuss words, without regret. Just made an executive decision like a big girl, and I went on about my business, put on my big girl draws, and came to. Where the heck are we? Pennsylvania. Next. Rick [00:36:54]: Next. Rick White [00:36:55]: And you step back, you'll learn from that experience. What did I do right? What can I do better? What could have gone better? Right. What am I going to do different? And then you move on, and you move on and. And you let it go. You learn, and you let it go. Too many people carry all their mistakes in suitcases, and they carry them every day. That's what we call baggage. Tonnika Haynes [00:37:17]: Yep. Rick White [00:37:17]: You gotta let that stuff go. They're just lessons that's all it is. Tonnika Haynes [00:37:22]: Learn from it. Rick White [00:37:23]: Learn from it. Get better and let it go, you know, because we have this expectation. We gotta be perfect when we start doing something. You gotta go through suck before you get to great. It's just part of life. Tonnika Haynes [00:37:35]: And there's a lot of suck. Rick White [00:37:36]: There's a lot of suck. But there's a lot of cool stuff on. Tonnika Haynes [00:37:38]: There's a lot of cool stuff. And with the suck, if you've got the right people, the right people in your network and you can share the Rick White [00:37:43]: suck, it makes a difference. It makes a difference because you ain't carrying it alone. Tonnika Haynes [00:37:46]: You ain't carrying it alone. And then you realize you're not the only one going through it. I think a lot of people think it's just me. Like you said, I should be able to figure this out. This is me. Why is this happening to my. It happened yesterday. What'd you do? I just didn't cry about it because I knew better. Rick White [00:37:58]: That's one. It's funny because that's one of the major comments I get. Like, after a new client comes on, I usually reach out about a week, 10 days later, and I'm like, hey, how are things going? They're like, this is really cool. Like, I thought, like, I'm not the only one going through this stuff. I was like, yeah, I know. Tonnika Haynes [00:38:17]: Yeah, you just wear it better. Rick White [00:38:19]: But if I told. Tonnika Haynes [00:38:20]: Deal with it better. Rick White [00:38:21]: Yeah, if I told you that it wasn't a big deal, that wouldn't work. Tonnika Haynes [00:38:26]: But if you saw it. Rick White [00:38:27]: But you saw. But if you saw other people going through it, and even if you realized, okay, I'm not alone. And that's the scariest part is being alone. And that's what happens when you set a business up where you have to have all the answers. You create a business where you are isolating yourself and you're alone. Whereas if you get people that are smarter than you or train the people to become smarter than you, that is the goal. Like I was. If you're an owner and you're still taking technical classes, I was getting ready Tonnika Haynes [00:39:00]: to say something about that. Rick [00:39:00]: You're still a mechanic. Tonnika Haynes [00:39:01]: You're still a mechanic. Rick White [00:39:02]: You're still a mechanic. And that's a problem, Right? Because you're not running the business, the business is running you. Tonnika Haynes [00:39:08]: Definitely. Rick White [00:39:08]: Right? Tonnika Haynes [00:39:09]: And these all sound like cliches, but it's the realest stuff in the world. Rick White [00:39:13]: Sometimes the smartest stuff is said simplest. Tonnika Haynes [00:39:16]: It's the simplest thing. It's so simple that it's like, yeah, and taking a whole class about answering the phone. You should. I've heard you answer your phone. Rick [00:39:25]: Yeah. Yeah. Tonnika Haynes [00:39:27]: Take a class about this. Yeah, you should. The simple stuff like. Like Becky says, soap, light and paint. Rick White [00:39:33]: Yeah. Tonnika Haynes [00:39:34]: Step outside and smell your shop. It stinks in there. Literally and physically. Like. Like it stinks. And you got a whole lot of stinky stuff going on. Rick [00:39:42]: Does it smell like a tire shop? Tonnika Haynes [00:39:43]: Yeah. It doesn't smell like a tire shop. Does it smell like differential fluid in your office? That makes a difference to that lady that's coming in with her kids? Like, what just happened? She doesn't know that a battery smells like a rotten egg. She thought you just had numb too. Rick [00:39:54]: Yeah. Tonnika Haynes [00:39:55]: Fix your office. Put some ventilation in there. It's just like all those little things that people don't think important. But I'm a great mechanic. You can't convince nobody to come in your shop, dude, because it's scary. Rick White [00:40:04]: Yeah. So my office was in powder blue, very light tones. No signs, no crap up. We had. We had the diplomas for the guys, their ases up, and that was it. And then we had a book with all their other certs. I had a menu board behind us that told people what we worked on. The kind of work we did in the cars we worked on. Rick White [00:40:27]: That was it. Rick [00:40:28]: Yeah. Rick White [00:40:28]: And then flowers. Tonnika Haynes [00:40:30]: Yeah. I got plants, some pictures and mirrors. Yeah. And music. They don't need a bunch of wiper blades in their face. This is not a part store. Rick White [00:40:40]: Or car magazines. Let's get some car magazines and put them out front. Tonnika Haynes [00:40:43]: That makes so much sense because I'm gonna learn about car. Cars while I'm sitting here getting my car worked on. Yeah. Rick [00:40:48]: Airboats and fishing for me. Tonnika Haynes [00:40:50]: We got the farm bureau book and then the local magazines and then some kids books. Rick [00:40:54]: I'm so excited about you coming to Texas and driving my airboat. Tonnika Haynes [00:40:58]: Oh, my God. Rick [00:40:59]: Yeah. You told me you could. Tonnika Haynes [00:41:00]: I can. Rick [00:41:01]: Yeah. I'm so excited about it. Tonnika Haynes [00:41:03]: And then you get to say yes to so many other things that you never said yes to before. Rick White [00:41:07]: Yeah. And then later you're going, what did I just say? Rick [00:41:09]: Yes, but no. Tonnika Haynes [00:41:11]: I'll get on the air. Hey, give me a date. Give me a date. Let's look at the calendars. And apparently I'm going on the airboat. I need to. I can check that out. Rick White [00:41:19]: It's fun. It's fun. Rick [00:41:21]: Open invitation right now. We'll lay it online. We're having the 2026 Michael Gunther Cookout in Nebraska. Tonnika Haynes [00:41:29]: Why is it a Michael Gunther cookout? Rick [00:41:31]: Guys, he's cooking. Yeah. And we're going to be in August this year. August 6th through the 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th. And we got cabins all set up and. And we're having a good time. We're inviting all the 180 biz family and past members. And members. Rick [00:41:51]: If you've been involved in 180 biz, this is not a 180 biz event. This is a family event. Tonnika Haynes [00:41:58]: Reunion. Rick [00:41:58]: Yeah, baby. Rick White [00:41:59]: It's a reunion. Rick [00:42:00]: Yeah. Rick White [00:42:01]: Yep. I've already talked to Brenda. I'm going out. Rick [00:42:04]: That's cool. Rick White [00:42:04]: So I'll be out at that one. Tonnika Haynes [00:42:06]: That is going to be a lot of lives. Rick [00:42:08]: So we're going to have an open mic night. And it. The. The. The theme of it is let's talk about it. So bring your subject. Bring your idea. Tonnika Haynes [00:42:17]: Oh, we're not gonna sing? Rick White [00:42:19]: No. Oh, Rick [00:42:22]: yes. Tonnika Haynes [00:42:23]: I thought I was gonna go out and be Tina Turner. Rick [00:42:27]: No, we can do this. Tonnika Haynes [00:42:28]: You said open mic. I was ready to do some karaoke. Are we gonna have a Kumbaya? Rick [00:42:33]: Yeah, we'll have a Kumbaya. Rick White [00:42:34]: We're gonna have fireplace. We're gonna be all around the fireplace. Just do we wear our shoes? Relax. Rick [00:42:39]: If you want. Tonnika Haynes [00:42:40]: Yeah. Rick [00:42:40]: It's got a lake. We're right by the lake. So you can go fishing and swimming. And there's a town just like right up the street so you can go down, go shopping, goofing off. So it's a family time. Tonnika Haynes [00:42:52]: I think I'll be interested in that because I like. I'm so glad that I've said yes to so many more things. Like when going to Montana with Kim last year was the best yes I have said in a long time. Rick [00:43:01]: Candace and Jesse or got the accommodations locked in. Okay. We got a bunch of cabins locked. Everyone they got is ours. So there's nobody else going to be there for three or four days. Tonnika Haynes [00:43:11]: Okay. Rick [00:43:12]: But the 180Biz family. Tonnika Haynes [00:43:14]: Is Burris going? I'm not getting. Rick [00:43:16]: I haven't talked to Benji yet about this. No, you're the first to know. Tonnika Haynes [00:43:21]: Thank you. Rick [00:43:22]: Yeah. This is the first official announcement in August. Yeah. We haven't even. Rick White [00:43:30]: Advisor training starts July 7th. Tonnika Haynes [00:43:32]: I don't even want to hear about it no more. I've been asking it for 10 years. Rick White [00:43:35]: No, I mean it. Tonnika Haynes [00:43:36]: July 7th. Rick White [00:43:37]: July 7th is when it's starting. Finally more to come. I know. Tonnika Haynes [00:43:42]: Finally. Rick White [00:43:43]: And it's going to be Megan and I teaching it. Tonnika Haynes [00:43:47]: Really? Rick White [00:43:48]: Yes. Tonnika Haynes [00:43:49]: Megan is outlast. She's so cool. Rick White [00:43:51]: Megan is. Tonnika Haynes [00:43:51]: I'm so Glad they're in North Carolina. Rick White [00:43:53]: Rock star on the front counter. Tonnika Haynes [00:43:55]: Yeah. Rick White [00:43:56]: She's amazing. So she is. Megan and I are going to be teaching it. Rick [00:44:01]: So are we allowed to talk about what's happening in June yet in North Carolina? Tonnika Haynes [00:44:07]: Well, this probably. Rick White [00:44:08]: I don't know. We don't have to get released. Tonnika Haynes [00:44:09]: We don't have the dates locked in just yet. Rick White [00:44:11]: We don't have the dates. Rick [00:44:13]: The only thing I can tell you right now is Rick and Mr. More Money. Mr. Mo Money are coming to North Carolina. Tonnika Haynes [00:44:20]: The road tour. Rick [00:44:21]: Yeah, the road tour. Yeah, North Carolina road tour. And I'm bringing my RV and I'm going to have a good old time. Tonnika Haynes [00:44:27]: Sounds like you bring your. You're bringing your RV with good tires, but you're not going to pull a car behind it this time and rest. Rick [00:44:33]: I probably won't. I think I'm going to be pulling a trailer. So hopefully the trailer won't let go. Tonnika Haynes [00:44:39]: You bring side by sides with you. Rick [00:44:42]: I don't know why I shouldn't because the trailer is a 24 foot enclose. Will we have time? Tonnika Haynes [00:44:49]: You tell me if we'll have time. Rick [00:44:51]: We have time. The side by side will be loaded and I won't bring a car. I'll bring two side by sides. Tonnika Haynes [00:45:01]: Let's see if you get those side by sides out the shop. Dad. Rick [00:45:04]: Yes. Yeah. Tonnika Haynes [00:45:05]: Okay. Rick [00:45:05]: The place to go. Well, we're all right. Tonnika Haynes [00:45:07]: It's up past Raleigh. Rick [00:45:09]: Okay. Tonnika Haynes [00:45:10]: It's probably. It's a little dry now, though. We were so dry. So it's not too much mud. It'd be like dirt. Rick [00:45:15]: And I don't mind us. Tonnika Haynes [00:45:17]: North Carolina hasn't had rain in a while, so everything's so dry. Rick [00:45:20]: Maybe by then it'll rain. Tonnika Haynes [00:45:21]: Hopefully it'll be rain. Get some mud and go in. Rick [00:45:24]: I've seen some muddy pictures of you before. Tonnika Haynes [00:45:27]: Nobody knows that about me. Rick [00:45:28]: Yeah, I love it. Tonnika Haynes [00:45:29]: We'll stick to the lipstick and the cuteness. Rick White [00:45:32]: See? Mud and red. Tonnika Haynes [00:45:34]: Mud and red. Rick [00:45:34]: That would be so cool. There was a couple pictures like that. Tonnika Haynes [00:45:37]: That'd be funny. Rick White [00:45:39]: So. Yeah. Yeah. We're not sure on the date yet. We're still working on the dates. I don't have it firmed up with Kelly yet. Tonnika Haynes [00:45:45]: Okay. Cali Grace is doing a great job. Rick [00:45:47]: I'm so excited about that. Rick White [00:45:48]: So I told her I still was. I want to come to the social, the summer social, and then teach Saturday instead of the Saturday before the Saturday. Tonnika Haynes [00:45:57]: But that's the only thing it's up in the air is that it's a Father's Day weekend. Oh, is it Father's Day weekend? Rick White [00:46:02]: Oh, shoot. Tonnika Haynes [00:46:02]: Yeah. See what happens when you get so busy and popular? Rick White [00:46:06]: It's not popular. My daughter pops this skating tournament competition that she's been skating at, practicing for for like eight months. Tonnika Haynes [00:46:16]: Who? Rick White [00:46:16]: My daughter. Tonnika Haynes [00:46:18]: Skating? Rick White [00:46:20]: Yeah. Ice skating. Tonnika Haynes [00:46:21]: Ice skating. My hips hurt thinking about that. Yeah, Sounds beautiful. Rick White [00:46:26]: Supposed to be the first weekend in June and then she says, no, it's the 12th. Tonnika Haynes [00:46:30]: Oh, my gosh. Rick White [00:46:32]: Like I'm supposed to go someplace on that. So if we need to keep the dates where they are, I will. Tonnika Haynes [00:46:37]: We'll figure it out. Rick White [00:46:39]: I don't want to. Tonnika Haynes [00:46:40]: Yeah. The next weekend is Father's Day weekend. That's the only thing. Rick White [00:46:44]: We could be four wheeling on a. Tonnika Haynes [00:46:46]: On Father's Day. Rick [00:46:47]: We could be. Tonnika Haynes [00:46:48]: Well, then you'd be away from your family on Father's Day. Rick White [00:46:50]: Well, I got 12 kids at home. Close. Tonnika Haynes [00:46:53]: We'll see. So we'll figure it all out. But you've got to get to the expo floor. Do you have a class to teach today? Rick White [00:47:00]: I do. I'm teaching. Grow your referral business. New class. Tonnika Haynes [00:47:03]: Okay. What time is it? Rick White [00:47:05]: 11 o'. Tonnika Haynes [00:47:06]: Clock? Rick [00:47:07]: 1:30. Rick White [00:47:07]: 1 or 4:30. Tonnika Haynes [00:47:08]: I got a 2 o' clock recording, so I might sneak in and sneak out. Rick White [00:47:11]: Oh, this is really cool. We talk about the five areas of referrals and I guarantee you nobody's doing all five. And then tomorrow I'm teaching a class called delegate your way to freedom. Tonnika Haynes [00:47:24]: I think I've done that one, but he's always going there. Rick White [00:47:27]: You could not have done that one. Tonnika Haynes [00:47:28]: Now this one's a different one. Rick White [00:47:29]: This is a brand new class. Tonnika Haynes [00:47:30]: Okay. Rick [00:47:31]: To delegate your way to freedom. Rick White [00:47:32]: It's brand new. Rick [00:47:33]: Brand new. Oh, I bet we know a lot about it though. Tonnika Haynes [00:47:36]: Yeah. Yeah, but you can never know too much. Rick [00:47:39]: Never. Tonnika Haynes [00:47:39]: Well, guys, thank you so much. Thank you for being here. Rick [00:47:41]: It was great. Thank you. Tonnika Haynes [00:47:44]: Yep. Let's go. Get to work. Look, where's Braxton when we need him? Braxton, come turn off everything. Oh, I forgot Ms. Tanika. Rick White [00:47:51]: Work. Work is a dirty four letter word. Tonnika Haynes [00:47:54]: Downshift with Tanika is where we slow down long enough to have real conversations. Hosted by myself, second generation shop owner, Tanika Haynes. This goes beyond your car count, your KPIs. We want to talk about leadership, legacy mindset, and the messy, beautiful journey of building something that lasts. You will hear stories from shop owners, technicians, and other industry leaders who are figuring it all out by themselves in real time. This is a space for growth. Tough love, laughter and leveling up.
