- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Three O Take where we talk
- 0:04all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate Reyes.
- 0:10It all starts right now. Welcome back to the Three O Take
- 0:16Percent by Chinook Sedry. This is episode 581.
- 0:19I'll be your host, Kyle Cord. I'm here with my Co host Nate
- 0:23Reyes. Nate.
- 0:26Good Lord, Casey, how are we? Dude didn't even have a dog in
- 0:32the hunt. But man, I was, I was nervous.
- 0:37To take a lot. For a while.
- 0:40I think who was it, Joe Davis at the end of the game, I think I
- 0:43had three heart attacks, dude, during that thing.
- 0:46That was OK. Let's just let's let's go ahead
- 0:50and check the boxes here. One of the best World Series
- 0:55you'll ever see, one of the best Game Sevens you'll ever see, and
- 0:59quite frankly, I think just one of the best games you're ever
- 1:02going to see. That game had everything that
- 1:06game had. Great defense, clutch ABS, small
- 1:12ball. The coolest under pressure
- 1:17moments, the greatest of pressures, one would argue.
- 1:23You know, I mean, you had closely, you had three two
- 1:26counts. You had balls just just off the
- 1:29black not getting called. You had Bang Bang plays, forces
- 1:34at home. I got guys crashing into each
- 1:37other. I mean, early in the game diving
- 1:40catches like you had you had extra base hits, you had home
- 1:43runs. You had like insane how?
- 1:47Many Here's something that I'm I'm just now thinking of how
- 1:51many starting pitchers were featured in this game.
- 1:55We had for Toronto. We had Max Scherzer, Chris
- 2:00Bassett, Treya Savage, Shane Bieber all go.
- 2:08We had Shohei Ohtani, Tyler Glass, Now Blake Snell,
- 2:14Yamamoto. 8 starting pitchers in Game 7.
- 2:21That is the definition of an all hands on deck.
- 2:24That's the definition of a Game 7.
- 2:25Dude. That was just impeccable.
- 2:30What a great World Series. One of one of the best World
- 2:36Series I think we're going to see in our lifetime.
- 2:39And I, I wanted to say this closer to the top because I know
- 2:44that we may have some hate listens from people that just
- 2:49can't stand the Dodgers. Let me try to hopefully put this
- 2:52into perspective for you. I need the people that hate the
- 2:57Dodgers to take off their Dodger hate hats for just a second.
- 3:01Sure. And understand that it's OK to
- 3:08set aside your hatred for the Dodgers.
- 3:10And understand that we just witnessed A downright classic of
- 3:15a World Series. And specifically with game
- 3:18seven, that was frankly the last thing that I was thinking about
- 3:23was how much money the Dodgers have spent.
- 3:25I was simply locked into a game seven of one of the best World
- 3:30Series that we've seen, one of the best we've seen in our
- 3:33lifetime, featuring 2 very good teams that were not willing to
- 3:40give an inch. And that's part of the reason,
- 3:45if not the entire reason we saw this thing going to extras.
- 3:49I mean, you could not have asked for a better finish to this
- 3:53series. This was unbelievable.
- 3:58It's excellent, man. It's excellent.
- 4:01Had everything. Where do we start?
- 4:02Where do you want to I mean? This game, well, here's the
- 4:06thing. This game was Game 6.
- 4:07Too, Because there's. That's what I'm saying.
- 4:11It's controversy as to why we're here.
- 4:12It's probably some upset Blue Jays fans that feel like they
- 4:15probably shouldn't have even been to Game 7 so.
- 4:20That that's what's so crazy about this Game 7 is it was so
- 4:24good that game. I mean, it frankly wouldn't have
- 4:28mattered how Game Seven would have gone 'cause then at that
- 4:31point you're just talking about who wins it and Game 6 is sort
- 4:33of an afterthought anyway. But because of how just
- 4:37downright incredible to Game 7 was, it truly feels like an
- 4:41afterthought now. Maybe not so much for Blue Jays
- 4:43fans, because maybe now they're looking at Game 6A little more
- 4:46closely under the microscope going that was that was maybe a
- 4:50missed opportunity. There was a lot.
- 4:51There was a handful of missed opportunities for the Blue Jays.
- 4:56I don't look, I don't think we're talking about the Blue
- 5:00Jays. Fans certainly are.
- 5:01But the Blue Jays were two inches away from winning the
- 5:11World Series. 2 inches a split second away from winning the
- 5:19World Series. Not to rub salt in the wound,
- 5:20but that hurts. Missed.
- 5:23Missed opportunities. I don't know.
- 5:27First off, let me I'm going to address our group chat real
- 5:30quick because I don't remember getting that much support after
- 5:34the Yankees lost last year from all of our friends in the group
- 5:38chat. Ton of support to our guy Micah,
- 5:41but I don't remember. Getting any love after we got
- 5:47got embarrassed, but whatever. I mean, Blue Jays fans are
- 5:50getting therapy appointments set up, you know, mental, mental
- 5:55health checks. I don't think I got any of that
- 5:57poor name because nobody cares about the Yankees.
- 6:01Nobody dude. Anyway, moving on.
- 6:05Happy for for this. No no, no, no no no no.
- 6:08Stop. This is that classic meme where
- 6:10it's the guy looking himself in the mirror and he says this has
- 6:14nothing to do with you, but you get in there and make it about
- 6:17you. Typical Yankee fan.
- 6:19That's what we got to do, baby. That's what we got to do.
- 6:21Sit. No, I'm just kidding.
- 6:22Go ahead. Yeah, I mean, I don't know
- 6:28what's worse. Do you like your your biggest
- 6:33fear of your team coming true on the biggest stage or being so,
- 6:44so close, so close to hoisting the first trophy in in 30 plus
- 6:50years? Like I, I don't know what's
- 6:55worse. I this was such an evenly
- 6:58matched World Series. I know you mentioned there was a
- 7:01lot of opportunities missed. Yeah.
- 7:03I mean, you could argue that for both sides.
- 7:05I think, you know, like, obviously a ton of runners left
- 7:08on base. Historic, historic World Series.
- 7:16So many different narratives, so many different storylines.
- 7:21I mean, I I guess if you want to kind of break it down a little
- 7:24bit, I mean, going back to Game 6, like, you know, all these all
- 7:28these comments and videos about like the quotes that Mookie had
- 7:34of him being down in the dumps and like just reflecting of like
- 7:37how poorly he's played for him to have, you know, a clutch AB
- 7:40and a clutch knock and drive in some runs.
- 7:43It's like you have that you have, you know, Andy Pahas, who
- 7:48has been horrendous offensively, making an insane.
- 7:54I don't think Kiki had that ball tonight.
- 7:56I don't that looked like he was in the worst position possible
- 8:00to make that play on the track. So for Pas has to come in, just
- 8:04lay him out to make that play. I'm like, good for you Andy,
- 8:08because Kiki was not on that. I'm sorry.
- 8:10Meredith, well known non 162 girl, yeah, even she looked at
- 8:16me and she goes, he was basically he would have been
- 8:19backwards trying to catch that ball.
- 8:21What was he doing? I'm like hard to say.
- 8:23Worst possible. Position to get in, but you have
- 8:27that storyline right. I mean you have just one of the
- 8:33greatest post season performances in vladdy.
- 8:39You have a storyline of Boba shet missing 2 full months and
- 8:44and hitting a massive home run to start off game seven.
- 8:48I mean you there's so there was just everything, everything in
- 8:54this World Series. You had two games.
- 8:56We we had an extra game. This was Game 8.
- 9:00Like I you have a starter in Yamamoto who just won an MVP and
- 9:06I told I called that by. The way Oh no, no, we're going
- 9:08to get into it. We're going to get.
- 9:09Into it for him to come back. I like there's just so many
- 9:12storylines and just excellent overall at 10 out of 10 A+ and
- 9:20shame on the people saying it was scripted in our comments, by
- 9:23the way. Our guy.
- 9:28That's the beauty of our game. Friend of the pod, Dallas
- 9:30Braden, He he said it, He, I, I saw something, I think it was
- 9:35today people talking about, well, of course it's going to
- 9:37game seven. It's everything's scripted,
- 9:39scripted for the Dodgers. To his point, he he said it
- 9:43perfectly. He said you still have to be
- 9:45able to execute the script. And that's the beauty of this
- 9:48game. We talk about it with the All
- 9:49Star game as an example, where it's like, that's why the All
- 9:53Star game is still so great because unlike the NBA where you
- 9:57can just Cadillac it lollygag and put up 300 points, in
- 10:02baseball, you can't you can't really take the foot off the
- 10:06pedal. You still have to be able to hit
- 10:0895 plus in an All Star game. You still have to be able to
- 10:11play great defense, make smart base running decisions.
- 10:15And that's, that's like, if, if you OK, if you want to believe
- 10:20that there's some element of this that's scripted, go ahead.
- 10:24But understand that the people making those decisions.
- 10:28Under the left center fence like.
- 10:30Understand that the people making the scripts can only take
- 10:35it so far. The guys on the field have to be
- 10:40able to execute it. OK, So just put that, put that
- 10:46aside. But you mentioned the ball.
- 10:48I feel like we, we, if we didn't mention it, what are your
- 10:53thoughts? Because I feel like I have my
- 10:54thoughts. I I would venture to say we're
- 10:56probably aligned here, but this was a very contentious moment in
- 11:01game. Understandably so, but very
- 11:04polarizing. You had people on the furthest
- 11:09ends of the spectrum arguing about how this play should have
- 11:13been handled. If if I was on, if I was on the
- 11:20Blue Jays side of it, I'd be fairly salty about it.
- 11:23But the reality is that's it's the rule.
- 11:26That's the rule. Could he have gotten down and
- 11:32and snagged it and probably lost no time at all?
- 11:38Maybe, Probably because he did. After it was called, Daddy just
- 11:41went down and grabbed it. However, on the other side, if
- 11:46he does try to grab that and he struggles with it, it's not
- 11:51called dead the second you make that attempt and you're fighting
- 11:56for it. If you got to lift the fence to
- 11:59be able to pull that thing out, like then it is live.
- 12:04He made the right call. We're taught that at the
- 12:06youngest of ages. I mean, because, you know, you
- 12:09grow up playing under crazy weird fences and, and chain link
- 12:13fences and, you know, uneven fields.
- 12:15It's just what happens. Balls sneak under the fence or
- 12:18they get wedged. And so you kind of grow up like
- 12:20getting used to having to do that.
- 12:23It's crazy to see it on the biggest stage at the biggest
- 12:26moment and I, I do, I do feel for the Blue Jays fans because
- 12:32for those who maybe didn't get to see the play, you know what I
- 12:36mean? That's a guy on 1st like he's
- 12:381000% scoring on that. He was absolutely scoring on
- 12:43that and was likely going to push a triple maybe, but it was
- 12:50the very least. It's an easy double and we got
- 12:53tie game at that point, right? So I get it.
- 12:58I feel for him. But that's the rule, the rules,
- 13:01the rule. I mean, it's it it got stuck,
- 13:04hands go up and that's how it is.
- 13:08I don't, I was trying to think of, I don't know why there's
- 13:11like this play from a long time ago that stuck in my head.
- 13:16I want to say it was like, it was like the Marlins, like the
- 13:21old Florida Marlins. And I think a ball got stuck and
- 13:26I want to say it was Gary Sheffield, but I don't, I don't
- 13:29know why I want to, but I feel like it was Gary Sheffield
- 13:32putting his his arms up. Umpire comes out and just like
- 13:36easily grabs it. Like easily proves that it's
- 13:40not. I don't know how that call got
- 13:42changed. I don't know if it was awarded
- 13:441. Oh, I saw that clip.
- 13:46I saw that clip today. It yeah, Yeah, I know what
- 13:48you're talking about. I don't know if I don't think it
- 13:50was Sheffield, Yeah. It's like a 30 year old play.
- 13:54I don't remember the result of it, but it's it makes you wonder
- 13:58like, you know, did if they would have spent a little more
- 14:00time on it. You know, like if we could have
- 14:02just maybe there's a new rule that like ball gets wedged,
- 14:09outfielder puts his arms up and it can't be touched until it's
- 14:16maybe investigated by the umpires, you know, like, let's
- 14:20call it dead on that spot. And then let's just use common
- 14:25sense from that point. You have you have replay
- 14:29abilities. You can see that like, OK, is
- 14:32this guy, because at that point he was either a step from third
- 14:36base or maybe even past third base.
- 14:38And I think that common sense, you can say, OK, this ball is
- 14:42not that wedged. I can grab it easily.
- 14:45He passed their base. Let's just award him the run.
- 14:49You know what I mean? Like I wonder if there's going
- 14:51to be some rule change to it because it's it's not a pretty
- 14:58rule. It's an ugly rule.
- 15:00And we have we have a weird game where there's quirks and unique
- 15:05fences and and stadiums and fields and just weird things
- 15:09like that that just sometimes come into play and it sucks.
- 15:13I hope it doesn't. I mean makes you wonder if it's
- 15:16going to go down as like the, you know, the a rod home run in
- 15:19O nine against the Phillies, like hitting off the camera or
- 15:22not like it makes you wonder if if it's going to be remembered
- 15:26that way. But I don't know.
- 15:30How do you feel? I'm assuming you agree like it.
- 15:33It's the rule, right? It's the rule.
- 15:35It was this, it was the smart decision, it was the right
- 15:39decision. And if if you're going back for
- 15:42that ball and you see it get lodged and in that split second
- 15:46it even remotely has the appearance of being lodged, you,
- 15:52your brain immediately has to tell you put your hands up
- 15:55because like you said, you're taught that from the youngest of
- 15:58ages. And so you do not want to risk
- 16:03going down there because, yeah, it's easy for us, like armchair
- 16:07coaches to sit there and be like, a ball's not launched
- 16:10after we've watched the replay a dozen times and can slow it down
- 16:14in slow motion. Yeah, in that, in that, in that
- 16:17very moment, you don't, you don't know until he actually
- 16:22goes over and picks up and like, OK, maybe it wasn't as bad as it
- 16:24looked, but it had the appearance of being lodged.
- 16:27The what? The padding was indented.
- 16:30You don't run the risk of getting down there and having to
- 16:33fight the wall. And he did the right thing for.
- 16:35Any amount of time he did the right thing, and that's just the
- 16:38rule. If he is struggling with it, the
- 16:41second he's fighting for it, it's no longer called dead.
- 16:45You can't undo it. The play continues, so if he
- 16:48continues to fight for it and struggle, that guy's just going.
- 16:52So he did the right thing anyway.
- 16:56Tough. Just an added added layer to
- 16:59this series, man, just an it had everything.
- 17:01It had everything unreal and then we we haven't even
- 17:06mentioned the ending of Game 6. I mean, like, I, I feel like
- 17:13I've said this multiple times, this series, not hyperbole, just
- 17:19like this has been one of the best World Series that get the
- 17:22ending to Game 6 was so gut wrenching.
- 17:26There's so many gut wrenching moments in this series.
- 17:28I feel like. And I just, I just didn't even
- 17:32want to see it end, quite honestly.
- 17:33Like I put out the tweet earlier tonight where I was like, let's
- 17:35go, let's run this like let's go 18 again.
- 17:39And granted, I didn't want to have to stay up till 3:00 in the
- 17:42morning, but like just for the quality of baseball, we are
- 17:45seeing, the moments that we are seeing develop the narratives
- 17:48that we were seeing continue for all of those reasons.
- 17:51I wanted this series, this game to continue on and on and on.
- 17:56But the ending of Game 6, just a tough break.
- 17:59Like you got to you got to know that you got to freeze there.
- 18:09I don't know, I got I, I feel like I have to walk a tight line
- 18:11because there's so many, so many plays we've seen even just this
- 18:15post season where I'm like, it's easy for us to sit there and be
- 18:18like, well, you got to know to do this.
- 18:20You got to be able to execute. But you know, in that, in that
- 18:25moment, you just got to at the very least freeze.
- 18:29Even if you don't go back, you got to freeze to give yourself a
- 18:31chance to get back. Who was on 2nd?
- 18:35Barger. You got to know the word.
- 18:42You're not scoring on that. It's it's a one hop.
- 18:46At best case scenario, it's a one hop.
- 18:49You're not scoring on it. It was tough, man.
- 18:56And that I think that's what just, I'm not trying to nerd out
- 19:00in any way. It's just like our game is just
- 19:03insane, dude. Because like you talk about Kiki
- 19:07making a season saving, championship saving catch and
- 19:13play in a very athletic play to just on the run to make that
- 19:19throw to 2nd. To Miguel Rojas, who had.
- 19:23Oh, crazy tweener hop. I mean, have a couple games.
- 19:28Miguel Rojas. My goodness.
- 19:30It's just like another narrative, but another story is
- 19:34just storylines all over the place.
- 19:36But and and then the very next game, you're like, I think Kiki
- 19:40got bailed out, right? Like we already talked about,
- 19:42it's just insanity, man, insanity.
- 19:46But yeah, there's it's not to the extent of what we saw, you
- 19:58know, like poor baseball being played by the Yankees last year
- 20:01at all. I don't think the Blue Jays
- 20:03played bad baseball at all. That's just a bad moment.
- 20:06But we've talked about it for months now, dude.
- 20:08And basically the entire season like it.
- 20:10The fundamental aspect of the game, like that's genuinely what
- 20:14it comes down to, is making the fundamental plays.
- 20:18And I don't know why it's just so evident on the bases
- 20:24specifically, so evident just and and catching, you know what
- 20:32I mean? But it comes down to base
- 20:34running, whether extra 90 is given or extra 90 isn't taken
- 20:39advantage of because of bad base running or I haven't.
- 20:46I never, never did I play at that level, never will.
- 20:49I never have. I never coach at that level.
- 20:52But like, I think you and I played the game long enough to
- 20:55where like base running drills are just it's ingrained in you.
- 21:05I could, I could go to first base right now and I could walk
- 21:08through my lead. I could walk through my
- 21:10secondary. I could go 1st to 3rd on a base
- 21:13hit like that. It's just the way that it's
- 21:16ingrained in you and taught. And I would again, like I'm not
- 21:20on the big league level. It's not, I'm not saying that
- 21:22I'm just it's just becoming more and more evident.
- 21:26And I'm not calling out the Blue Jays entirely here because it is
- 21:30baseball wide and you see it on the biggest stage and it's not
- 21:36OK. And that can be the difference.
- 21:38It was the difference. We're not just saying this
- 21:42because we're we're being grumpy old men.
- 21:45It's like the reality is that that does make the difference
- 21:50between winning and losing these games.
- 21:51And you saw two of the closest match teams that I've seen in
- 21:56recent memory where that does play a factor.
- 22:00That's what it does come down to something so minute like that.
- 22:05And it just, it needs to be better.
- 22:08It needs to be taught, it needs to be ingrained more.
- 22:12And I, I don't know what I mean. We could go down that path
- 22:15forever and just talk about how I think baseball has just turned
- 22:19into rushing athleticism and not rushing up the, the disciplined
- 22:25development and then develop the, the correct development.
- 22:29You know, it's just athleticism will take over.
- 22:32Athleticism will get us through it.
- 22:34We'll, we're OK with 200 strikeouts because athletically
- 22:37he's incredible. We're OK with 25 errors at
- 22:41shortstop because athletically he's incredible.
- 22:43It's like, no, like let's get the fundamentals down.
- 22:46Anyway, rant over. Coach Nate.
- 22:54Once it's in you guy, it's hard. To I get, no, I get it.
- 22:57It's not a it's not a knock. I like having, I like having the
- 23:01the analytical eye because honestly, once I got out of the
- 23:04game from a playing perspective, I just, I feel like I lost that
- 23:07and I'm, I've become more of a fan, but it's good to it's good
- 23:10to have that. It's such an analytical eye.
- 23:14Such an important aspect. It's such an important and and
- 23:18like if you, I think if you're maybe you're a new fan and
- 23:22you're and you're, you know, watching us for listening to us
- 23:25for the first time. And maybe you're, you know, just
- 23:29got caught up and and swept up in this postseason because it's
- 23:32been great. And maybe you want to start
- 23:34paying deeper, you know, more attention into our game.
- 23:38But that's kind of that like next level of what you look for,
- 23:42right, and start looking into what makes our game insane.
- 23:46It's not just, you know, ball and a stick.
- 23:50It's there's so much to it that needs to be paid attention to.
- 23:59Then that's the stuff that gets me upset.
- 24:01I'm not going to, I'm not going to be the guy that says, why are
- 24:03you swinging at that slider in the dirt?
- 24:05Because you're probably trying to gear up for 98 on your hands.
- 24:08You know what I mean? Like it's that's, that's a
- 24:11different aspect to it. It's the little stuff that can
- 24:14and should be done the right way.
- 24:15That doesn't take a lot of skill set and a proper secondary in a
- 24:24tweener line drive to left field with a guy in front of you.
- 24:33Well, that's game six you mentioned.
- 24:36You mentioned new fans that maybe maybe catching all of
- 24:42what's been going on for the first time or they're being
- 24:46introduced to this game. Talk about a time to be
- 24:48introduced to this game. Fantastic.
- 24:51I mean, you've got you've got people.
- 24:54I in fact, I had people texting me that I know aren't real
- 25:00baseball watchers telling me like, OMG, can't believe that
- 25:05just happened. This is unbelievable.
- 25:07So on and so forth throughout the entire evening.
- 25:10Yeah. And then I saw earlier where,
- 25:13you know, Caitlin Clark of all people is tweeting out this is
- 25:18the best baseball game I've ever seen.
- 25:20Like people, people that you just got to assume aren't, you
- 25:24know, 162 people are tuning into this and they're blessed with
- 25:31game seven that we saw tonight. And, and I know I, I, I keep
- 25:35feel like I'm, I'm repeating myself at this point, but this
- 25:38was just such an incredible game.
- 25:40Like going back to your point about narratives and and
- 25:42storylines, there was so much packed into one game that made
- 25:50this game as great as it was. I mean, you can talk about
- 25:53getting a vintage Max Scherzer start again, honestly, a start
- 26:00that needs to be talked about. I mean, you you don't really
- 26:03know what you're going to get from him at this age, at this
- 26:06stage of his career. I know he's had some his he's
- 26:08had some bright moments this year.
- 26:10But in a game seven, you going up against Shohei Otani, another
- 26:15narrative, another storyline here.
- 26:16Like, yeah, the game's greatest player getting the ball to start
- 26:20game seven of the World Series, the Beau Bichette Homer, Treya
- 26:25Savage talking about calling something.
- 26:28What did I say? I said in his last start he was
- 26:30going to put what I think it was pitch into the 7th and then
- 26:33you're going to see him in relief in game seven.
- 26:36We saw him in relief in Game 7. Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
- 26:41Well, I think he deserves his own segment some time on that.
- 26:45I'll, I'll keep the list moving, but my goodness, what a what a
- 26:49series. The Miguel Rojas Homer, the Max
- 26:54Muncie Homer, the Miguel Rojas play at the plate where he
- 26:57almost fell over and the the series would have been over.
- 27:01The Andy Pajez Kike Hernandez catch.
- 27:03You talked about the Will Smith World Series winning Homer.
- 27:08Clayton Kershaw getting a ring honestly was a basket case out
- 27:14in the pen. I don't know if you saw.
- 27:15Yeah, he was going. Nuts dude.
- 27:18Dude he was. He was not getting in and just
- 27:20full emotion. Was it well did was it just me
- 27:24or did what, what, who, what, which Homer was it?
- 27:27Was it the IT would had to been the Will Smith Homer where he's
- 27:32like he's like Oh my gosh, Oh my gosh, Oh my gosh.
- 27:35Did I see him or did I not see him?
- 27:38I thought he made like a beeline over to the the actual like
- 27:43bullpen mound area or at least the general vicinity where he
- 27:47would have warmed up. Was he was he getting ready at
- 27:50any point? I.
- 27:51Don't know if he was getting ready.
- 27:53Because I I thought I saw at some point he was at the very
- 27:57least getting loose. I think it felt like in in no
- 28:00disrespect to Kershaw, but it felt like if if the blue, if the
- 28:04Blue Jays were going to pull this off and the Dodgers were
- 28:07willing to lose it, it was probably with Yamamoto on the
- 28:09mound. No, he did get loose.
- 28:11That's right. I remember he was getting loose
- 28:14in conjunction with Sasaki. So they were both, they're both
- 28:17getting hot. Well, maybe not getting hot, but
- 28:19at the very least getting loose. So I mean.
- 28:22Man, I I didn't think Yamamoto was going to come back out.
- 28:28No, I mean, we can get into him in a minute, but I I agree.
- 28:32I mean, and you didn't mention. Vladdy.
- 28:34Like Vladdy. Vladdy having.
- 28:36Ernie Clement breaking the post season hit record.
- 28:40Is that was it, was it franchise record or was it actually No, I
- 28:45think it was an entire post it all together.
- 28:54No, not Ernie Clemente. First player in baseball history
- 29:00with 30 hits in a single post season.
- 29:05That. This tweet says they've only
- 29:07been playing the sport 150 years.
- 29:10That's. That's crazy.
- 29:12That's something else, right? And then you saw.
- 29:17And and real quick on the Ernie Clement thing.
- 29:19That's such a beautiful counter to the, you know, the Dodgers
- 29:24narrative that people love to push.
- 29:25And I understand why they do it. You know, I saw, I've already
- 29:29seen countless. This World Series was bought,
- 29:32not earned. OK, if if that's the approach
- 29:35you want to take, so be it. It's not going to die anytime
- 29:39soon. It's not going to die anytime
- 29:40soon, and if that's approach you want to take, then take it.
- 29:43But it's such a beautiful counter when you see a guy like
- 29:46Ernie Clement, of all people. Ernie Clement.
- 29:50Like, let that sink in. Ernie Clement of all of the
- 29:53names. Unknown.
- 29:55No disrespect, that's a no name coming in this World Series.
- 29:59The ultimate of no disrespects, the star power, the MVPS, the
- 30:06MVP potentials in this series, Ernie Clements, the guy to take
- 30:11that record, that's. It's such a just beautiful
- 30:14demonstration, beautiful example of, oh, why we love this game so
- 30:19much. Ernie Clement, you go, dude.
- 30:28I mean it's just kind of all over the place.
- 30:29I know we're all over the place. I'm sure you're all over the
- 30:31place. We just finished this freaking
- 30:33game. You know, Jeff Hoffman, who had
- 30:41been shaky down the stretch. He re earned the closing
- 30:44position and that's kind of that like as a Blue Jays fan, I think
- 30:49we you guys know that like that worst fear in the back of your
- 30:52mind of like like I've seen this guy that is worse like I hope he
- 30:57holds it down. I hope those days are behind him
- 30:59and then you know, it is what it is.
- 31:02I think that home run can come off anybody, but like that
- 31:06that's tough. You know, Sir Anthony Dominguez,
- 31:10like that's a transaction that you made at the deadline.
- 31:12Like, you know, like there was just somewhat ran out of steam
- 31:21in in that in that Blue Jay bullpen, you know, Shane Bieber
- 31:26deadline acquisition. You know, that's it's another
- 31:31tough Homer. Like it's.
- 31:33It well, did you I was going to ask you, did you feel like at
- 31:37any point tonight that I mean, aside from the game obviously
- 31:42being over, did you feel as though there was any real moment
- 31:45in the game where you're like, they lost the game.
- 31:51It's only a matter of time before this game is over and
- 31:54they lost the game because I feel like even the even the
- 31:57moments like a Max Muncie Homer or you know, like the Jeff
- 32:02Hoffman giving that up. It's just like, that's just
- 32:04baseball. I don't feel like this was, I
- 32:07agree, a blown situation necessarily or like they just
- 32:10handed it over kind of thing. No, I don't think so.
- 32:13I I think it was more so for me at least, like if we're just if
- 32:17we get to play Monday morning quarterback and kind of sit back
- 32:20and like look at the roster as a whole, like I, I understand it's
- 32:26game seven. I understand, you know, going
- 32:30the length, I understand starters getting put in the
- 32:35game, But like in reality, I, it's hard to say that that is a
- 32:47better move than just having relievers that you can trust,
- 32:52because those are the scenarios that they're they're always in,
- 32:56right. Asking a starter at the end of
- 33:00his season to get you a couple out of the bullpen, not having
- 33:05the normal routine, not having the normal, you know, days off.
- 33:08And I get it. You can sit there and say, Oh,
- 33:09this, they're professional athletes.
- 33:11They should be able to just adapt to any scenario.
- 33:13But pitchers are a little weird, you know, and I, I think the you
- 33:20go, you go back to, you know, the Red Sox World Series of like
- 33:23seeing Chris Sale close it down and you're like, that had like a
- 33:27substantial like it that stuck. It like stood out in my mind.
- 33:31You know what I mean? Seeing so many starting pitchers
- 33:37because of the lack of depth in the bullpen was interesting.
- 33:43And that was a different side of the game that I, I don't think
- 33:47either team going into it would prefer to be in that situation.
- 33:51Yamamoto is a different story. I think Yamamoto was
- 33:55otherworldly during this, during this World Series, but like to
- 33:59see so many other starters to have to rely on that so much.
- 34:04I think both bullpens were depleted.
- 34:06And I don't think, I mean, the Blue Jays are right there that
- 34:11they got all the way to that point, but that's the way they
- 34:13used their bullpen the entire post season.
- 34:18It was like this just Schneider managed to hit the right button
- 34:22the whole time. And I'm not saying even hit the
- 34:24wrong button. Like you said, it's just like
- 34:25baseball happens. But it's it was interesting.
- 34:29It was interesting to see and and like ideally, I think when
- 34:34you're building a bullpen at the deadline to make a deep run into
- 34:38the postseason, it's hard to imagine saying we we gave up a
- 34:43home run with no disrespect, we give up a home run to Shane Beat
- 34:48would with Shane Bieber on the bump versus like that nails
- 34:52reliever that we got at the deadline.
- 34:54You know what I'm saying? Does that make sense?
- 34:57Yeah, I don't know if I'm being too nitpicky and I I get that
- 35:01it's game seven. You throw everything in the
- 35:03kitchen sink at it. I just think if you were to like
- 35:06sit back and like unplug for a second, say, like, you know, is
- 35:11that the most ideal situation that you would want yourself to
- 35:14be in if you're the Blue Jays? And I don't think it is.
- 35:17No, but I think I think in a situation like that though,
- 35:22you're you, I feel like you have to throw structure out the
- 35:26window. You have to throw, you know,
- 35:28Norm like what guys are used to out the window and just have to
- 35:33look at it as though you have to get 27 outs.
- 35:37And if I'm the if I'm the Blue Jays, no disrespect to anybody
- 35:40in their pen, but I think I want to take my chances that like
- 35:45there's a reason these guys have been so are good, have been so
- 35:49good throughout their career. And to your point, it's not,
- 35:53it's not a normal circumstance or situation for them to be in,
- 35:57but I feel like I would, I would rather go down swinging with a
- 36:04guy like Shane Bieber on the bump as opposed to XYZ reliever,
- 36:09even if they've been locked down, even if that's their
- 36:13normal, you know, you know, window of the game that they're,
- 36:18they're poised for. So that's why it's I, I, I, I'll
- 36:24say this. I see both sides of it.
- 36:25I think I think you're right. But get a Game 7 is like, we
- 36:30just don't see them all that often, you know, and we
- 36:33especially don't see game sevens in the World Series all that
- 36:37often. So it's, it's just I, I think
- 36:41it's tough. I, I'm unbiased, I, it doesn't
- 36:44affect me either way of who would have won this thing, But I
- 36:46think it's, it's just interesting to sit back and, and
- 36:49look at that and understand why GM's attack the deadline the way
- 36:53they do. And it was just interesting that
- 36:56we saw two teams with very shaky bullpens.
- 37:01Then we saw the bullpens being, you know, that there's no
- 37:07toothpaste less than that left than that tube.
- 37:08You know what I'm saying? Like we got all of it out that
- 37:10we could, we squeezed everything out that we had to rely on our
- 37:14rotations to get get us across the finish line.
- 37:17Like it's just, it's interesting to pay attention to that anyway,
- 37:21but. I mean, as a as a neutral fan in
- 37:27this particular series, I loved it.
- 37:30Like seeing like your big your big guns roll out of the pen.
- 37:34I'm like. Snell coming out.
- 37:35Like just the talent that was coming through those bullpen
- 37:42doors tonight on just unbelievable.
- 37:46And I got to say, Speaking of a a neutral fan, I got to shout
- 37:50out this comment on this on our on the post that I put out
- 37:54tonight where I put out one of my tweets where I said, Simply
- 38:00put, one of the greatest game sevens you're ever going to see.
- 38:04And I got to shout out Keith Blake, this was on Facebook.
- 38:08You know, this is rare. You find it, you find a quality
- 38:10comment on Facebook. Usually it's there's.
- 38:13A lot of warriors on Facebook. Usually it's just toxic waste,
- 38:19but shout out to Keith Blake, he said.
- 38:22Absolutely gluttonous for the neutral baseball fan.
- 38:25Everything and more from the whole series.
- 38:28And then they give us that gem and I said, couldn't have said
- 38:33it better. Yeah to everything, dude.
- 38:37Yeah, to everything. Truly, I and I, I'm really I, I
- 38:42genuinely do not think I'm being a victim of the moment here.
- 38:46Genuinely think you you saw about everything you could see
- 38:53as it pertains to baseball. The game of baseball packed into
- 38:57one game. Yeah, I think that was, I think
- 39:01that was one of the best World Series I've ever watched and the
- 39:05best game seven I've ever watched, hands down, because it
- 39:09didn't go too far, you know what I'm saying?
- 39:11Like if it went like 16 innings and I'm like, all right, like,
- 39:15you know what I mean? And it probably would have been
- 39:16excellent. But it's like there wasn't a
- 39:19lull. There was no lull.
- 39:21It went to extra innings. It was still intense.
- 39:24There wasn't like this like, oh, they went hitless for three
- 39:28innings. You know what I mean?
- 39:29Like it because that gave me that that 18 inning game did
- 39:32have a lull where it was like, holy crap.
- 39:35So I'm going to get it out of the infield.
- 39:36You know what I mean? This, this had no lull.
- 39:41This had no lull. It was just excellent baseball.
- 39:45Let's talk our MVP, dude, and let's talk that.
- 39:48Where's that receipt? Where's that receipt?
- 39:52You've had your fair, I'll give you credit, man, You've had your
- 39:55fair share of receipts this this World Series.
- 39:57That one felt good. I'm proud of that one.
- 40:01I am proud of that one. You know what, let me just see
- 40:04if I can find it on the spot here.
- 40:05And while I do that, why don't you, why don't you tell us just
- 40:09about what you saw from Yoshinobu Yamamoto tonight?
- 40:14Freaking guts. Just guts, dude.
- 40:20I mean, let's go through the lines.
- 40:22Let's go through the lines here. So when did he he threw?
- 40:28Did he throw game one? No, those are Tani.
- 40:37They didn't even throw game 20. I'm looking at the Phillies
- 40:39series. That's why.
- 40:40What am I doing? Get together.
- 40:44All right, there we go. So game one.
- 40:49Little bit of a clunker from Snell Game 2.
- 40:54Let's bounce back, right, Let's get back on the on the grind.
- 40:58Sure, we'll just throw ACG 1 earned 8 KS, four hits.
- 41:05Game three warmed up for game 3, by the way.
- 41:10And I don't I don't know if that's going to be talked about,
- 41:13but the fact that he was willing to go and warm up and like Dave
- 41:18Roberts comes out and says, yeah, that was the next button
- 41:21being pressed because there was no other button to press.
- 41:24That was the next button being pressed after going CG.
- 41:28Let's roll them out there for the 18 inning game.
- 41:33Game six, excellent. I mean, like I hate saying only
- 41:396 innings, but still. Was that game six?
- 41:46Game five? Sorry, no.
- 41:48Game six. No, it was game six.
- 41:50Yeah, back-to-back nights, Game 6.
- 41:52Like which hits which five hits one earn one walk, 6 KS.
- 42:00Which, if you remember, and I'm about to play it, that was all
- 42:04that it would have taken from you to get your MVP nod.
- 42:08I agree, didn't even need this. And then he came back out in
- 42:12Game 7 and did this. Here's your receipt.
- 42:14Hold on, let me see if this will play. 8 plus strikeouts or
- 42:18whatever. We're going to chalk this up as
- 42:20one of the best pitching performances in World Series
- 42:23history, win or lose. I have no doubt that he will,
- 42:29which is hold on. Then or.
- 42:33Here we go, my stock. For you just shot through the
- 42:36roof did for him with that, I'm going to throw out.
- 42:40I'm going to throw out not necessarily a prediction or
- 42:44maybe somewhat of a take, but just just the receipt, a safety
- 42:48receipt, if you will, just in case we need to go back on this.
- 42:52If Yamamoto goes out strong Friday, I'll say if Yamamoto
- 42:59goes 7 plus and the Dodgers come back and win this thing, he's my
- 43:06MVP. He's been unbelievable.
- 43:14I mean, you're what, 6? Yeah, but then he gives you
- 43:17what? He gives you what, tonight 2?
- 43:19And a third, two and 2/3, something like that tonight.
- 43:21Unbelievable, man. Like that stuff that legends are
- 43:24made of. What what Yoshinobu Yamamoto
- 43:26did, that stuff that legends are made out of.
- 43:29And honestly, what was going through my mind really for the
- 43:34games that he was in. I'm sitting there thinking, I
- 43:38think people need to remember this is a guy that operated on 6
- 43:42days of rest typically. And look, I know, I know that
- 43:46people are gonna, well, the, the classic, they're professional
- 43:50athletes. They get paid millions of
- 43:52dollars to play a kids game. I know, I know.
- 43:57But even more so, we're talking about a guy that typically
- 44:04required for much of his career has required another day of
- 44:07rest. And you can call it soft, you
- 44:09can call it whatever. That's just been his MO.
- 44:11That's been the way that he's played the game.
- 44:14That's the way that he's developed as a pitcher.
- 44:16So you take that into account and the fact that he came out
- 44:20the literal next night after going 6IN Game 6 and that was
- 44:27only how many days after the the CGI mean.
- 44:31Just like what else could you do?
- 44:37But what's up your cap man? That's the what a what?
- 44:40A series. So Game 6 was last night Friday,
- 44:45right? Yeah, and he threw.
- 44:50I'm losing track of my days Game 2 and.
- 44:56Also, we just. Moved we just Saturday.
- 45:00So I mean that's it's five day rest, normal rest, but still
- 45:04it's it's the fact that I I think it's just the I don't
- 45:09know, man, I think there's a lot of competitors out there that
- 45:13are like, yeah, give me the ball.
- 45:15I'm willing to go the next day. I think we we still talk about
- 45:19CC and his performance with Milwaukee when he got traded
- 45:23over there. Like it's it's that willingness
- 45:26to like give me the ball. But we like we saw it.
- 45:30It wasn't like a verbal thing. It wasn't like Dave Roberts
- 45:33saying, oh, Yamamoto came to me and we were willing to do.
- 45:37He was in the bullpen getting hot.
- 45:39He was ready to roll the very next day after throwing ACG and
- 45:46then again goes 6. How many pitches did he throw on
- 45:52Friday? Friday Load man 96 pitches. 96
- 46:10pitches. Crazy man, the highs and lows of
- 46:16this game. We love like I again, you, you
- 46:21and I are sort of all over the place right now.
- 46:22But I'm just I'm looking right now at I was trying to get the
- 46:26final line for Vladdy for this postseason and I'm just seeing
- 46:32the most gut wrenching like he oh man, this, this dude was torn
- 46:38up. But 18 games for Vlade this
- 46:41postseason. Slash 397-490-4795 Eight homers,
- 46:4715 RB is 313 extra base hits, 29 hits and all.
- 46:53Even that what inning was that? That double that he hit down the
- 46:57line? And on the hands.
- 47:00Oh yeah. Pulling the hands in, barreling
- 47:04just enough to get it down the line.
- 47:06Like that second diving play at first.
- 47:09Oh my goodness, I. Think it was foul but like still
- 47:12like that catch, it was just he. I I got to say.
- 47:18Every year and a lot of respect for me, I've been I've been
- 47:24wondering where, where's the movie, if you will?
- 47:28I know we're tired of that, but the paycheck was making me
- 47:33wonder. We didn't see like a truly like
- 47:36wow, $400 million, whatever. What was his final five hundred
- 47:42$500 million regular season? I just I didn't see it out of
- 47:47him but he basically put up like one of the best post seasons
- 47:55I've ever seen. I don't think that's an
- 47:59exaggeration. No, again, not I verbally, I, I
- 48:04have to say, I think we saw I, I think we saw Vlady Junior mature
- 48:10before our eyes in this World Series alone.
- 48:14Like I feel like I saw a guy that was willing.
- 48:18I hate using this analogy, but I feel like we saw a guy that was
- 48:22willing to go to war for the guys in that clubhouse and he
- 48:29backed it up. Like he showed up.
- 48:31This isn't the guy that just collected his paycheck and was
- 48:35like, I'm cool with this, if we get a ring in the process, so be
- 48:39it, but I'm chilling. No, this was a guy that made it
- 48:43very abundantly clear that he was going to do everything that
- 48:49was within his power to help bring a World Series back to
- 48:51Toronto. And they fell again.
- 48:54And I'm not, I'm not pinning this on one play or one moment,
- 48:57but when you look at it as closely under the microscope as
- 49:01you can, they were two inches away from winning the World
- 49:06Series. I mean, that's as cool.
- 49:09That is literally as close as you can get to winning the World
- 49:12Series without winning it. Unbelievable.
- 49:20Unbelievable. Real quick, while I'm thinking
- 49:21of it, talking about talking about fantastic performances do
- 49:25not want, I do not want to conclude this this episode
- 49:32without mentioning Louis Varland.
- 49:35I know I mentioned it in our fantasy group chat.
- 49:40That dude is a dog. And I like whether or not, you
- 49:43know, he had a legendary postseason or a mediocre
- 49:48postseason. To me, that's not important.
- 49:51To me, what was most impressive about what he did and setting
- 49:55the record for most appearances in a postseason was the simple
- 49:59fact that he took the ball like this wasn't a guy that was like
- 50:02Skip I I just, I can't, I can't. Yeah, he he did well, but it's,
- 50:08it was not a situation of him being like Skip I I just can't
- 50:11go tonight. Like, you know, I I'm giving you
- 50:15everything I can, but I just need He took the ball in all but
- 50:20one postseason game for the Blue Jays.
- 50:23That's insane. And I'll, I'll be the first guy
- 50:27to get on relievers and be like, come on, we can go, we can go 2
- 50:33days in a row. Like I understand it's Max
- 50:36velocity for a lot of these guys, but let's be, let's be so
- 50:40serious right now. You guys can go more you, we, we
- 50:44can go consecutive days. And he went all but one game.
- 50:53He went the whole month of October just crazy.
- 50:58So I got to got to tip my cap there to to Louis Varlin, you
- 51:02know? Yeah, definitely.
- 51:07They they didn't lose this series because of one guy, but
- 51:09they most certainly did not lose it because of Louis Varlin.
- 51:12I'll say that. Yeah, yeah, What else we got,
- 51:20man, I mean. That boba shit, Homer, yeah,
- 51:24going back to earlier in the game that I wanted so badly for
- 51:32that to be his moment. And it it was.
- 51:36And I saw some, I saw some people going back and forth in
- 51:39the comments being like that, you win or lose, that does not
- 51:42take away from this moment. He's going to remember that for
- 51:44the rest of his life. Surely he's going to look back
- 51:46on it a little differently given the outcome.
- 51:50But man, what a like for a guy, him and George Springer, which I
- 51:55don't think we've we've necessarily mentioned yet
- 51:59regarding just battling this series.
- 52:03Yeah, we had some stuff going. Major, major respect.
- 52:08Mad props to both of those guys. I.
- 52:13Wanted to watch the Boba Shet home run again 'cause that was a
- 52:16good pimp job too. Oh, the bad drops.
- 52:19So clean. So clean.
- 52:23Possibly his last Big Blue Jays moment.
- 52:29I want it so badly for that to be his.
- 52:32If you're new, by the way, we will be getting into a full
- 52:36season recap and we will be getting into everything
- 52:39throughout the whole offseason. So we're not going anywhere, by
- 52:42the way. Great plug.
- 52:44Yeah, yeah, man, just like I'm just going to.
- 52:51I, I created a list of things that I wanted to make sure we
- 52:55covered. I know we mentioned it briefly,
- 52:57but Miguel Rojas, the Dodgers, 9th.
- 53:02The Dodgers simply do not win this World Series without Miguel
- 53:04Rojas, as simple as that. Which Which, coming into this
- 53:09World Series, would have been the last thing that I thought
- 53:13I'd be saying. Yeah, that's, I mean the.
- 53:18Again, that's the beautiful thing about this game that we
- 53:20love. Miguel Rojas and Ernie Clement
- 53:23being two key pivotal figures in this World Series.
- 53:29Yeah, crazy man, Crazy. Great stuff.
- 53:39Great, great, great World Series.
- 53:42And I know going back it I, it's obviously easy to say now, but
- 53:46we were absolutely spot on by saying that the Blue Jays were
- 53:50going to give the Dodgers a better run than what the
- 53:54Mariners could have done. No disrespect to the Mariners,
- 53:57but like, I just don't think we would have gotten this World
- 54:00Series. This was absolutely excellent.
- 54:07I think, I think of the four LCS teams, this was going to be your
- 54:14best bang for your buck without a doubt.
- 54:17And I, I think, I don't think I need to explain why or, or state
- 54:22my case. I think you saw that tonight in
- 54:25Game 7 and for the duration of this entire World Series.
- 54:29Yeah, I, I, I, I have a new found respect for the Blue Jays.
- 54:35Likewise, new found respect because again, they played the
- 54:44last three plus months the incredible baseball, excellent
- 54:52baseball. It's just, it's so refreshing to
- 54:59see and not to, you know, beat a dead horse, but I it's just so
- 55:05refreshing to see two teams willing go ahead and say what
- 55:13you want about paying for World Series pain to be in the dance.
- 55:18Let's not forget the the the Blue Jays are top five in
- 55:21payroll as well. But it's so refreshing to see
- 55:25two teams that are willing to do what it takes to take the
- 55:31necessary measures to give themselves the best chance to
- 55:35win a World Series. And it took every last game to
- 55:41make it happen. But it was just so refreshing to
- 55:45watch that and not to I mean, you, I gave you a, a, a Yankee
- 55:50card this episode to to drop a little Yankees reference in.
- 55:54I'm going to make a Red Sox reference here.
- 55:55If, if you'll, if you'll allow it.
- 55:58I'm we're sitting here watching this World Series unfold.
- 56:03And meanwhile, I'm hearing about how the Red Sox are already
- 56:06talking about how they're not going to be able to afford XY
- 56:09and Z player this offseason and that we really need to temper
- 56:12our expectations. So that's the kind of that's the
- 56:15kind of stuff that's us, us fans, US fans that don't have
- 56:20dogs, that didn't have a dog in this fight.
- 56:22That's what we get to go back to now and the gloomy days of the
- 56:25offseason. But yeah, man, this, I, I mean,
- 56:29we could go on and on about how great this this series was.
- 56:34Trying to think, by the way, if, if DVDs were still a thing, this
- 56:38would be a DVD that I would purchase and watch again.
- 56:41Oh yeah, if I was a Dodger fan, I'd be like, I'm buying this DVD
- 56:44bro 'cause I could watch. It's like, this is the greatest
- 56:48first season of a show this is I've ever seen.
- 56:53I would watch that show over and over again.
- 56:56Yeah, petition to bring back the World Series DVDs.
- 57:02I'm in on that. No way.
- 57:04Where we plug them in, I don't know what, where do we put them
- 57:07into, you know? The consoles, yeah, I think PS
- 57:12the the Playstations, that the Xboxes, they'll still, they'll
- 57:15still, they'll still pump out. Do get the PS2 by the way.
- 57:19Again, if you're new, this isn't the normal setup.
- 57:22It'll get better. Behind me, the backdrop will
- 57:24look less like a storage closet. He moved into his new office
- 57:30digs. Yeah, it'll change soon.
- 57:36It'll change soon for Clayton Kershaw.
- 57:38I know we mentioned that new chapter of life he's about to
- 57:42embark upon, but great to see that moment.
- 57:47Great. Great to see it wrap up for him
- 57:49this way. Great World Series moment,
- 57:52important World Series moment. Not a forced World Series
- 58:00moment, You know what I mean? Could you have a mat?
- 58:04Could you imagine if he had got, if he had been brought in to
- 58:09close that thing out? That would have been, I don't
- 58:14know if he would have got through it, but that would have
- 58:16been insane if it was a little more of a laugher.
- 58:25Another receipt you had, though. Another receipt you had.
- 58:29Hold on. I got the quote.
- 58:30I got the quote. It was you're talking about
- 58:37Kershaw. You're talking.
- 58:38Well, you're talking specifically about Dave Roberts.
- 58:41Yeah, But you said, where is it? You said Dave Roberts can't help
- 58:47but pay attention to narratives as it relates to Clayton
- 58:50Kershaw. And you said, you're basically
- 58:51just like, I don't think he'll be able to help himself if
- 58:53presented with the right opportunity.
- 58:55And he was real close. Yeah, real close.
- 58:58Yeah, I, by the way, I guess, you know, kind of my closing
- 59:06thoughts on it. I think we've been hard on Dave
- 59:08Roberts in the past for I think valid reasons.
- 59:14I thought he did a really, really good job managing this
- 59:18World Series. I agree.
- 59:22Think of too many instances where I disagreed.
- 59:27And look, I, he's, I feel like we've had this conversation
- 59:32before, but he like, it's easy to look at Dave Roberts and be
- 59:38like, how hard could it be to manage that team?
- 59:42But as much on the flip side, there's a lot of pressure there
- 59:50because if you don't do what he's done the last two years,
- 59:55there's people calling for your job.
- 59:58So. Again, you can look at Dave
- 1:00:01Roberts situation and be like, you know, I mean, he's got
- 1:00:05Otani, Yamamoto, Freeman bets, the list goes on and on.
- 1:00:11How hard could it really be? Well, if you fall short with
- 1:00:15that roster, good luck to you. But yeah, man, kind of kind of
- 1:00:23wrapping it up here with the the Will Smith Homer.
- 1:00:29Even when that happened, I, I genuinely thought I told I told
- 1:00:35Meredith when, when how did they tie it up the Miguel Rojas
- 1:00:43summer when Miguel Rojas tied it up, I said, there's the Blue
- 1:00:47Jays are still going to win this game.
- 1:00:49And before I could even explain why she she was like this home
- 1:00:55field advantage is just going to be too much like for the for the
- 1:00:59Dodgers. And I said yeah, like I this
- 1:01:01play and I my quote exactly was the Rogers Center is a gunpowder
- 1:01:07keg waiting to explode. And we came so close to it.
- 1:01:13But then when Will Smith decided to show up to fulfill the Will
- 1:01:18Smith prophecy? Oh my gosh, it's never ending.
- 1:01:21It lives on. Yeah, they someone needs to add
- 1:01:25the reliever Will Smith to a coaching staff somewhere, just
- 1:01:29in case. Just just in case, Yeah.
- 1:01:33And if the team he gets added to, the staff he gets added to
- 1:01:36is out of it by the All Star break, can we somehow maybe
- 1:01:40trade? Yeah.
- 1:01:42Trade a coach. Trade a coach.
- 1:01:45To a contender, no man, but awesome moment for Will Smith.
- 1:01:50Awesome, awesome way to to wrap this thing up man.
- 1:01:53What a what a game, what a series.
- 1:01:56And our last our our our new, most recent repeat World Series
- 1:02:04winner. Haven't seen it in 25 years.
- 1:02:07Back in bracket man. Tell me our game is scripted.
- 1:02:12Go ahead and try to tell me. Can't.
- 1:02:18It ain't. That's again, to go back to the
- 1:02:23two inches thing. We were two inches away from the
- 1:02:28Dodgers not being able to quote ruin baseball.
- 1:02:31And I get it that they won, but like it.
- 1:02:34That shows you how much of A game of inches that this sport
- 1:02:39can be and is people are saying, well, Dodgers are just going to
- 1:02:44buy their way to another trophy, to another World Series trophy.
- 1:02:472 inches, yeah. It's crazy stuff.
- 1:02:52Well, what do we, what do we got?
- 1:02:55We're probably going to take a mini break, right?
- 1:03:01Like. Take a little breather, yeah,
- 1:03:04we'll play it. We'll play it by ear.
- 1:03:06Have to get AI think a maybe some kind of recap.
- 1:03:13I I like the idea of touching on our hot takes episode.
- 1:03:18Yeah, we did that last year. I like that.
- 1:03:20I like that. Just kind of go back and reflect
- 1:03:22to see how much things have changed or how wrong or correct
- 1:03:27we were, which is rare, but yeah.
- 1:03:31And then like I said, if you're new, we we're going to keep this
- 1:03:35thing rolling all offseason. Not entirely sure what it's
- 1:03:39going to look like or or what days, but we don't go anywhere.
- 1:03:43We're going to stay with it. We have a ton of managerial
- 1:03:47changes to cover already. We have a lot to to go over.
- 1:03:53So and then before you know it, it's going to be winter meetings
- 1:03:57and transactions are going to be happening.
- 1:03:59Trades and free agent signing. So we'll be here the whole
- 1:04:02offseason. If you don't watch, I recommend
- 1:04:06it. YouTube is is something we're
- 1:04:09trying to build. So if you want to hit us up on
- 1:04:11that, hit some subscribe and we're going to do some fun
- 1:04:16stuff. We're going to shake things up
- 1:04:18slightly in this offseason. We're going to do a lot of new
- 1:04:21and fun things and hope you hope you hop on.
- 1:04:28Another season in the books, my friend.
- 1:04:30Season the books man, this is season 7 for us.
- 1:04:34Season 7, You know, I moved. It's crazy.
- 1:04:37I moved to Arizona yesterday. Eight years ago.
- 1:04:40Yesterday. Did you really?
- 1:04:42I moved to Arizona. Yeah.
- 1:04:45The nuts flown by. I had hair back then.
- 1:04:49A lot. A lot has.
- 1:04:51Changed in the time we've been doing this, but it's been a
- 1:04:55pleasure. Yeah, man.
- 1:04:57But no, you're right. If you're new and you're
- 1:05:01wondering what what happens once the offseason hits, it's more
- 1:05:06the same. We will be here, we'll be
- 1:05:08talking ball, we'll be talking a lot of non ball stuff too.
- 1:05:13We we like to get weird in the offseason.
- 1:05:16Frankly, that's when. We do get weird.
- 1:05:20That's that's when some of our best sides come out, our best
- 1:05:23material, best content. I you know, I have to say it,
- 1:05:27that it has to be the offseason, but you know, it's.
- 1:05:29It's fun. We set the bar high for the
- 1:05:32offseason. It gets.
- 1:05:33It gets fun. It gets weird.
- 1:05:34Sprinkle of non baseball stuff too so.
- 1:05:37That's what I'm saying. Yeah, we, we talk ball, we talk
- 1:05:40a lot of non ball stuff. But yeah, we're we're looking
- 1:05:44forward to it. Appreciate all of you who have
- 1:05:47stuck around with us for the duration of the season, even
- 1:05:51those of you that maybe joined on a little late, maybe even
- 1:05:53those of you that just tacked on for the the postseason.
- 1:05:56Maybe those of you that tacked on for even just the World
- 1:05:59Series. Maybe those of you that even
- 1:06:01just discovered us for Game 7 because you're like, I love this
- 1:06:04baseball thing. Where can I, where can I?
- 1:06:08You know, we're going to get more of it.
- 1:06:10You're welcome in. I love you.
- 1:06:12I'm going to cradle you. I'm going to hold you tight.
- 1:06:21I got to work on that. Beautifully said.
- 1:06:23Yeah. Beautifully said.
- 1:06:26That's it, guy. That's it, man, another season
- 1:06:29in the books, Like I said, we'll, we'll play it by ear.
- 1:06:32We it's, it's always hard to tell how how we bounce back from
- 1:06:36a, a World Series finale. Sometimes we take a little bit
- 1:06:41of a breather. Sometimes we just jump right
- 1:06:43into a recap and and kind of get the control in there.
- 1:06:46But we'll be back nonetheless. But other than that, that's all
- 1:06:52I got. Don't.
- 1:06:54Go chasing curve balls. We love you all as always.
- 1:06:57Looking forward to talking more baseball with you guys soon.
- 1:06:59Until next time, stay filthy.
