- 1:08Speaker 1: you those listening the next day in your favorite on
- 1:10Speaker 1: demand audio podcast platform on Sunday when this does come out,
- 1:13Speaker 1: a great Sunday, hopefully with this Sabers eight three victory
- 1:16Speaker 1: in Game six to extend it to a game seven.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Back in Buffalo on Monday night, the Sabers improved a
- 1:22Speaker 1: five and one on the road.
- 1:24Speaker 2: This playoffs.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Gonna go over a lot of statistics with you guys.
- 1:26Speaker 1: Gonna go over the scoring summary from head coach Lindy
- 1:29Speaker 1: Ruff as well Brandon putto along with you please to
- 1:31Speaker 1: be joined once again by Jonathan Howe of ninety seven
- 1:34Speaker 1: seven hits FN Jonathan, Wow, just you know I lacked
- 1:38Speaker 1: the words, not just because it's a late late night
- 1:41Speaker 1: with the late start for Hockey Night in Canada, but
- 1:44Speaker 1: after the emotions of what this first period was like,
- 1:48Speaker 1: after Lyon gets pulled on three on four shots, I
- 1:51Speaker 1: would not have imagined that we'd be sitting here talking
- 1:53Speaker 1: about an eight to three Sabers victory after what we
- 1:56Speaker 1: saw in Game five.
- 1:58Speaker 3: I did not expect that at all. I really thought.
- 2:02Speaker 3: I mean, I didn't feel like it was over. I
- 2:04Speaker 3: don't know if I'm just living in La la land,
- 2:06Speaker 3: like if I'm the eternal optimist or what, but I
- 2:09Speaker 3: think when Zucker made it three to two before the
- 2:12Speaker 3: end of the period, I was like, Okay, well they're
- 2:14Speaker 3: not They're not out of it.
- 2:16Speaker 4: There there's something And it felt like even.
- 2:19Speaker 3: Though yes, Lion was our weak point, and it still
- 2:22Speaker 3: felt like we were carrying the play to some extent
- 2:26Speaker 3: even in that first period, so I didn't feel like
- 2:29Speaker 3: we were out of it, but I definitely was stressing
- 2:31Speaker 3: and I definitely was like, this is not how I
- 2:34Speaker 3: wanted to go down for game six.
- 2:37Speaker 1: No, and I know that there's a lot to talk
- 2:40Speaker 1: about here within the game, but I think we should
- 2:43Speaker 1: start out here with the lineup. And again I'm monitoring
- 2:45Speaker 1: the live post game that's going on right now, so
- 2:48Speaker 1: we'll take you to Lindy Ruff when we can here.
- 2:50Speaker 1: But I think Tage Thompson speaking as well, which we
- 2:53Speaker 1: might might get to depending on how lengthy Jonathan and
- 2:56Speaker 1: I really get into it here. You know, when we
- 2:59Speaker 1: talked about it last post game, Jonathan, when Austin was
- 3:02Speaker 1: on with me, we talked about, you know that they
- 3:05Speaker 1: had to split Thompson and Tuck up just it wasn't working.
- 3:09Speaker 1: They were a minus seventeen between the two of them.
- 3:12Speaker 1: They weren't producing. The Habs top line was really you know,
- 3:15Speaker 1: just dominating them all in all aspects, and they were
- 3:17Speaker 1: really just having a hard time being able to generate anything.
- 3:22Speaker 1: And the confidence wasn't there between those guys. So Lindy
- 3:25Speaker 1: shuffles up the lineup on the forward side, puts it
- 3:27Speaker 1: all into a blender, and it worked tonight. So I
- 3:31Speaker 1: mean you got Metsa in on the back end for
- 3:34Speaker 1: Luke Shen, which I thought was a really good idea
- 3:36Speaker 1: to get Zach Metsa and there. He hasn't played since
- 3:38Speaker 1: April fifteenth, but looked really good. And we'll talk about,
- 3:41Speaker 1: you know, him getting a late power play goal there.
- 3:43Speaker 1: But you can sit on the video version on YouTube
- 3:46Speaker 1: for you guys watching along Jonathan. He really switched up
- 3:48Speaker 1: the lines tonight. Thompson went to the wing, Krebs went
- 3:51Speaker 1: back to center on the fourth line, Benson got moved up,
- 3:54Speaker 1: talked about moved down to the second line. Just what
- 3:57Speaker 1: were your thoughts on the way Lindy constructed it tonight
- 3:59Speaker 1: in a must win game.
- 4:00Speaker 3: I think he really focused on having some center depth.
- 4:04Speaker 3: We saw how much Thompson was struggling in the faceoff dot.
- 4:07Speaker 3: He was not showing that he could really carry a
- 4:10Speaker 3: line from a center standpoint. And that doesn't mean that
- 4:14Speaker 3: you know, when you're rolling with F one, F two,
- 4:16Speaker 3: F three, that they don't all interchange anyways. But I
- 4:18Speaker 3: think having Norris up there took some of the pressure
- 4:21Speaker 3: off Thompson allowed him to be a bit more of
- 4:23Speaker 3: a free wheeling winger tonight. McCloud, I think did a
- 4:26Speaker 3: good job of being pretty much unnoticeable.
- 4:30Speaker 2: You know, he wasn't unremarkable.
- 4:32Speaker 3: It was an unremarkable game for McLoud and sometimes that's
- 4:34Speaker 3: all you need from your second line center because Doan
- 4:37Speaker 3: and Tuck did their thing. Helenius, I have to give
- 4:40Speaker 3: you props, Brandon. Last time we were on you were,
- 4:43Speaker 3: you know, pounding the table. You wanted Constant in there,
- 4:46Speaker 3: and you wanted mets It in there. He got him tonight,
- 4:49Speaker 3: and man did they perform. And I know Krebs took
- 4:52Speaker 3: kind of a silly penalty early in the game, but yeah,
- 4:56Speaker 3: I thought he still did a good job centering that
- 4:58Speaker 3: fourth line as well. So as focus on center depth,
- 5:01Speaker 3: I think that was reflected in the faceoff Dot. Josh
- 5:04Speaker 3: Norris had an amazing night in the faceoff Dot. I
- 5:08Speaker 3: think he was like ten for ten through almost two
- 5:10Speaker 3: and a half periods or something like that. So I
- 5:14Speaker 3: think focusing on center depth was the big difference tonight
- 5:16Speaker 3: in the lineup.
- 5:17Speaker 1: Yeah, don't get me going on that Cribs penalty, because
- 5:20Speaker 1: I've I was really fired up at that point when
- 5:23Speaker 1: they just took him just because the helmet came off
- 5:25Speaker 1: of the Montreal player. Yeah, you know, we'll get into
- 5:28Speaker 1: that after, but yeah, I mean just with the lineup,
- 5:30Speaker 1: like they had to change something up. Even if Thompson's
- 5:32Speaker 1: not one hundred percent, I still like him better on
- 5:34Speaker 1: the wing when you're trying to get him going offensively.
- 5:37Speaker 1: It takes a little bit of pressure off him, as
- 5:39Speaker 1: you mentioned, as a center, and the defensive responsibilities just
- 5:43Speaker 1: unbelievable there. And it's oh my goodness, we got a
- 5:47Speaker 1: fifty dollars donation tonight. Hell yeah, sure thing, excavating landscape,
- 5:54Speaker 1: fifty dollars, let's go buffalo from Nova Scotia. Me and
- 5:57Speaker 1: my son had tears tonight. The fact that they showed
- 5:59Speaker 1: up like this, Oh my god, is this a dream?
- 6:01Speaker 1: I have to get like a an audio clip or
- 6:03Speaker 1: something of our j going ballistic when we get these, uh,
- 6:06Speaker 1: these donations.
- 6:06Speaker 2: Now, that'd be perfect.
- 6:08Speaker 1: We are monetized here on the network, and I really
- 6:10Speaker 1: appreciate that as we go forward here, you know, going
- 6:13Speaker 1: into the offseason. Got some ideas about possible we can
- 6:16Speaker 1: bring for you guys as exclusive content. But really thank
- 6:19Speaker 1: you for that. Much appreciated but not expected at all.
- 6:22Speaker 1: But uh yeah, that uh, that's definitely almost the the
- 6:25Speaker 1: craziest thing I saw tonight, even in an eight three game.
- 6:28Speaker 1: But you mentioned the lineup and and Lion got the
- 6:32Speaker 1: start tonight didn't last long. And we talked about on
- 6:37Speaker 1: our last postgame. Austin was very much in the camp
- 6:40Speaker 1: that Lucanan just didn't shouldn't been it, shouldn't play another
- 6:45Speaker 1: game in the series based off of him not being
- 6:49Speaker 1: able to kind of step up in that fifth game.
- 6:50Speaker 1: He looked, you know, just the moment looked a little
- 6:53Speaker 1: bit too big for him. But I got to give
- 6:55Speaker 1: him props tonight. Man, he after Lion gives up three
- 6:58Speaker 1: goals in the first he comes in an almost impossible situation.
- 7:02Speaker 1: Montreal had all the momentum, the crowd was going ballistic.
- 7:05Speaker 1: They had a few more opportunities as well, and he stood.
- 7:08Speaker 1: He shut the door. He stopped all seventeen shots that
- 7:11Speaker 1: he faced tonight from the Canadians after coming in in
- 7:13Speaker 1: that first period. And you know, I think he's earned
- 7:16Speaker 1: himself the Game seven here because we know Lindy Ruff
- 7:18Speaker 1: just rides with the hot hand and you know, even
- 7:21Speaker 1: what a change of events from.
- 7:22Speaker 2: You know, forty eight hours ago.
- 7:24Speaker 3: Yeah, and I mean lyon like he's the road merchant, right,
- 7:28Speaker 3: he had ten wins in the row in the regular
- 7:29Speaker 3: season on the road. It makes sense for him to
- 7:32Speaker 3: be that guy in that moment, I understand the decision,
- 7:35Speaker 3: but I also hated his positioning. Like, if you look
- 7:40Speaker 3: at all the goals tonight, he's out and challenging, which
- 7:43Speaker 3: I love. That's one of the things that I love
- 7:44Speaker 3: about Lion's game. But if you're going to be out
- 7:47Speaker 3: and challenge, you have to be square to the shooter,
- 7:49Speaker 3: and you can just see too much open net for
- 7:52Speaker 3: the Canadian players to shoot at. So you know, from
- 7:55Speaker 3: from my standpoint, not that I know a ton of
- 7:58Speaker 3: about playing goal, but I look at his positioning on
- 8:02Speaker 3: every replay and I was just like, he's just off
- 8:04Speaker 3: by like a foot or two. He's being aggressive, which
- 8:07Speaker 3: I love, but it's just not flying. And I think
- 8:10Speaker 3: that was a really veteran coaching maneuver from Lindy to
- 8:12Speaker 3: be like, hey, it's three on four, three on three,
- 8:15Speaker 3: whatever it was, get him out of there. I don't
- 8:18Speaker 3: care if it's Lion's fallen, don't care if it's the
- 8:20Speaker 3: team in front of him. We need a spark ready
- 8:21Speaker 3: to change. You go to lucan In, and the big
- 8:24Speaker 3: thing about lucan In is just he has the ability
- 8:26Speaker 3: to make the explosive save and sometimes those are almost
- 8:30Speaker 3: better to have in your back pocket because I think
- 8:32Speaker 3: it frustrates the Canadians. I think they started to kind
- 8:35Speaker 3: of look for those opportunities a little more and that
- 8:38Speaker 3: kept them from shooting, I think in some opportunities, and
- 8:42Speaker 3: I think the Sabers just did a better job of
- 8:44Speaker 3: blocking shots. Like I felt like in game game five,
- 8:48Speaker 3: I don't think the Sabers did enough to help lucan
- 8:50Speaker 3: in and that's why he probably didn't really live up
- 8:53Speaker 3: to the moment or didn't have the opportunity to be
- 8:55Speaker 3: the hero like maybe some.
- 8:57Speaker 2: Had thought he might be able to be.
- 8:59Speaker 3: But yeah, a huge game from Luken In once he
- 9:02Speaker 3: came in and really locked it down, really allowed the
- 9:04Speaker 3: guys to play their game, and we saw that the
- 9:08Speaker 3: offensive output when they know that they've got somebody who's
- 9:10Speaker 3: gonna stop the puck for them behind them, what they
- 9:12Speaker 3: can do.
- 9:13Speaker 2: Yeah, they sure did.
- 9:14Speaker 1: And Dobish obviously got pulled late in that game. But
- 9:18Speaker 1: Marty Saint Louis is going to go back to a
- 9:20Speaker 1: starter that was mostly just to get him out of
- 9:22Speaker 1: the neck get his head reset for a Game seven
- 9:24Speaker 1: on Monday night. But we'll talk about him a little
- 9:26Speaker 1: bit more in the scoring summary. But our games test
- 9:29Speaker 1: tonight are brought to you by Janel Flooring. You better
- 9:31Speaker 1: deal anywhere else you don't know Jack. Check him out
- 9:33Speaker 1: at Jannel Flooring dot com or visit their Naga Falls
- 9:35Speaker 1: location to begin your quality flooring project today.
- 9:37Speaker 2: Quickly go over this one.
- 9:38Speaker 1: Jonathan and the Sabers out shoot Montreal thirty six to
- 9:41Speaker 1: twenty two in the game. The first period had three
- 9:44Speaker 1: goals in the first four shots that chased Alex Lion
- 9:47Speaker 1: from this game. Pretty low shot in the in the
- 9:51Speaker 1: third period with Buffalo with that big lead, you know,
- 9:54Speaker 1: the second period was where a lot of the action was,
- 9:57Speaker 1: but ends up being thirty six to twenty two in
- 9:58Speaker 1: the shot department faceoffs.
- 9:59Speaker 2: Big deal for Buffalo tonight.
- 10:01Speaker 1: We know how much they struggle on the Dot, but
- 10:02Speaker 1: they were sixty point seven percent tonight. Maybe that was
- 10:05Speaker 1: because Tage Thompson moved to the wing. I'm not too sure.
- 10:08Speaker 1: Really bad night for Montreal on the dot for their
- 10:11Speaker 1: standards thirty nine point three percent. Buffalo on the power
- 10:13Speaker 1: play went four for six. We know the power play
- 10:17Speaker 1: struggles at times that Buffalo's had. They've had a lot
- 10:19Speaker 1: more success since they moved Benson to that top unit
- 10:23Speaker 1: along with Doan. They've had a lot more success there.
- 10:26Speaker 1: Montreal only goes one for three on the power play tonight.
- 10:29Speaker 1: I think I can read that properly, and that was
- 10:32Speaker 1: big for Buffalo to be able to have a bounce
- 10:34Speaker 1: back performance on the penalty kill. We know they had
- 10:36Speaker 1: a big one in game five or game four, excuse me,
- 10:39Speaker 1: game five. Montreal got to them pretty handily on the
- 10:42Speaker 1: power play.
- 10:42Speaker 2: We know that five man units deadly.
- 10:44Speaker 1: And then in the block shot department you mentioned, Buffalo
- 10:47Speaker 1: did a much better job. They're eighteen to nine in
- 10:49Speaker 1: favor of Buffalo and takeaways five to three in favor
- 10:53Speaker 1: of Montreal.
- 10:54Speaker 3: Anything you want to mention from the game stats tonight, honestly, yeah,
- 10:57Speaker 3: for me, it's all of the face offs. I think
- 10:59Speaker 3: the starting with the puck and shots too. Like I
- 11:03Speaker 3: think having eleven on Dobish making dobish work is the
- 11:08Speaker 3: key to the Saber success. And it's not necessarily that
- 11:11Speaker 3: Dobish shows signs of fatigue by any means. But you're
- 11:15Speaker 3: not gonna score if you don't shoot like you gotta
- 11:16Speaker 3: get pucks on net to them and you gotta limit
- 11:19Speaker 3: Montreal's opportunities. I think coming out of that first period again,
- 11:22Speaker 3: even though they were down three to two and there
- 11:25Speaker 3: was three really ugly goals from Montreal and maybe not
- 11:27Speaker 3: ugly goals, but three goals that maybe you don't want
- 11:31Speaker 3: to be given up in the first period of a
- 11:32Speaker 3: game where you're facing elimination. I think the eleven to
- 11:35Speaker 3: five difference in shots in the first period gave me
- 11:38Speaker 3: enough confidence that, Okay, maybe they're gonna be able to stay.
- 11:42Speaker 4: In this game and maybe eke out a win.
- 11:44Speaker 3: And they did that and so much more, especially exploding
- 11:47Speaker 3: for seventeen shots in the second period.
- 11:49Speaker 1: Yeah, that was where they did most of their damage
- 11:51Speaker 1: as well, and we might as well get to FOURD
- 11:54Speaker 1: with it with the scoring summary. Tonight brought to you
- 11:56Speaker 1: by the Nagar Employment Help Center helping people find work
- 11:58Speaker 1: in the Naga Region nineteen eighty three. Check up thro
- 12:01Speaker 1: the up to date job board of each and to
- 12:03Speaker 1: fight your next work opportunity today. I know Trish at
- 12:05Speaker 1: the Help Center was disappointed that Maryville got the rained out.
- 12:08Speaker 1: I know for you Jonathan as well, but you got
- 12:10Speaker 1: to watch a great Savers game, so I guess that's
- 12:12Speaker 1: a small consolation for a for a rainout of a
- 12:15Speaker 1: great Merritville Saturday.
- 12:16Speaker 3: Yeah, and I know, and then we double back on Monday,
- 12:18Speaker 3: of course, so we'll see how I didn't have my
- 12:22Speaker 3: jersey on, I'm gonna have my hat on.
- 12:24Speaker 2: I gotta have the radio feed.
- 12:26Speaker 3: Which can we take a minute and once again shout
- 12:29Speaker 3: out Dan dun Levy. I mean, we all know the
- 12:31Speaker 3: magic of r J and how much he meant to
- 12:33Speaker 3: this franchise, but I will say it till the cows
- 12:36Speaker 3: come home that I think Dan Dunlevy has done such
- 12:38Speaker 3: a great job jumping in that big chair and representing
- 12:41Speaker 3: the crest, representing the Blue and Gold in a professional way,
- 12:46Speaker 3: in just enough of a Homer way that you still
- 12:48Speaker 3: having fun with it as the local broadcast. But he's
- 12:51Speaker 3: also always fair and had an iconic call tonight. I
- 12:54Speaker 3: love that jumping Jack Quinn the ripper or with the ripper.
- 12:58Speaker 3: That was a great call on the power play goal.
- 13:00Speaker 3: I think it was the second power play goal Quinn
- 13:02Speaker 3: got tonight, and.
- 13:03Speaker 1: Quinn definitely needed that one as well. But yeah, Dan
- 13:06Speaker 1: dun Levy, never you know, RJ's never gonna be you know,
- 13:09Speaker 1: he's he's irreplaceable. But when you go in that share
- 13:11Speaker 1: and Dan dun Levy's done a fantastic job. He's now,
- 13:14Speaker 1: you know, the voice of the Sabers, and I'm sure
- 13:16Speaker 1: RJ's looking down very proud at the at Dan dun Levy,
- 13:20Speaker 1: you know, keeping the chair in good hands.
- 13:22Speaker 2: And yeah, don't even get me started on the on.
- 13:24Speaker 1: The sports Net broadcast again, because for you people in
- 13:27Speaker 1: Western New York, you guys have no idea what we
- 13:29Speaker 1: have to deal with here in Canada with the sports
- 13:31Speaker 1: Net broadcast playing the Montreal Canadians Hockey night in Canada.
- 13:35Speaker 1: Oh my goodness, the theatrics leading up to the.
- 13:37Speaker 3: Game and just you cole play playing like on top
- 13:41Speaker 3: of the fact that it plays when the team comes out,
- 13:44Speaker 3: they're playing on the broadcast like it'd be like if
- 13:46Speaker 3: if ESPN was playing like saber Dance into Rocky Lak
- 13:52Speaker 3: a Hurricane two thousand into money for nothing.
- 13:54Speaker 4: Like That's what we had to deal with on that
- 13:56Speaker 4: Canadian broadcast.
- 13:57Speaker 3: If you're not familiar with watching a game on Roger
- 14:00Speaker 3: Sports that right now.
- 14:01Speaker 1: I mean, I get it, and I don't want Canadians
- 14:03Speaker 1: fans coming after me in the chat. Okay, I get it.
- 14:05Speaker 1: They're the last Canadian team in the Playoffsada. But you
- 14:08Speaker 1: know what, the Sabers have kind of taken on the
- 14:10Speaker 1: role of Candada's team, at least for the people here
- 14:11Speaker 1: in southern Ontario and us here in the Naga region.
- 14:14Speaker 1: So everybody wants to jump on the bandwagon, even those
- 14:16Speaker 1: sad Leaf fans, so you know, shout out to them,
- 14:18Speaker 1: I guess, but they got a lot more problems. So
- 14:20Speaker 1: let's move forward with our scoring summary. Jonathan here and
- 14:23Speaker 1: Dahleen gets the Sabers on the board early. This is
- 14:26Speaker 1: the fifth time in six games the Sabers have scored
- 14:28Speaker 1: the first goal in the game, and they get it
- 14:30Speaker 1: really early there. Dahleen thirty two seconds in just what
- 14:33Speaker 1: can you say, just walks left Coffs. He goes on
- 14:35Speaker 1: the backhand and goes over top of Dobis to silence
- 14:38Speaker 1: a rock as Bell center Crop Gross.
- 14:40Speaker 3: It was a disgusting goal. I was so that's what
- 14:44Speaker 3: I wanted to see from Rasmus. I feel like all
- 14:46Speaker 3: playoffs have been waiting for that spectacular individual play to
- 14:49Speaker 3: set the tone, and he absolutely did that. Of course,
- 14:53Speaker 3: you know it didn't last very long, as Jackuy goes
- 14:55Speaker 3: back at it, but Dahleen set in the tone and
- 14:58Speaker 3: living up to it with a huge as you're pointing
- 15:01Speaker 3: out there.
- 15:02Speaker 1: Yeah, Dahleen scored thirty two seconds into Game six, making
- 15:05Speaker 1: the fastest set fastest goal for to start a playoff
- 15:08Speaker 1: game in Sabers history, behind Derek Roy nine seconds into
- 15:12Speaker 1: Game four of the two thousand and seven Conference Final.
- 15:16Speaker 1: Roy's was also in a potential elimination game, So Dallian
- 15:19Speaker 1: turning back to clock there for the Sabers.
- 15:21Speaker 2: So that's really great to see.
- 15:22Speaker 1: And as you mentioned, yeah, just he really needed that one, right,
- 15:25Speaker 1: Like the captain, he's he's been struggling offensively in the
- 15:28Speaker 1: second round, you know that. You know, he had to
- 15:30Speaker 1: answer the bell here and after some really bad penalties
- 15:33Speaker 1: as well in Game five, and him and Tage Tom
- 15:36Speaker 1: seventy two and twenty six needed to have big games
- 15:39Speaker 1: or the Sabers we're going to get eliminated tonight. And
- 15:40Speaker 1: I feel like they had definitely had bounce back performances
- 15:44Speaker 1: with Dallen starting it off here.
- 15:46Speaker 3: Absolutely couldn't say I could ask for much more from Dawlian.
- 15:50Speaker 2: I thought he was really brilliant tonight. So I know
- 15:52Speaker 2: Habs fans were upset with me.
- 15:54Speaker 1: A couple of post games ago because I didn't go
- 15:56Speaker 1: in depth on every one in Montreal's goals. Well, unfortunately,
- 16:00Speaker 1: you can go watch our friends over at ABS tonight
- 16:02Speaker 1: if you want to listen to the in depth analysis
- 16:05Speaker 1: of all of Montreal's goals. I'm not going to break
- 16:07Speaker 1: them all down for you here, but they do score
- 16:09Speaker 1: three unanswered there, Austin.
- 16:12Speaker 2: It's deja vous from the other night.
- 16:15Speaker 1: But yeah, I mean the first goal, Jack Guy, the
- 16:20Speaker 1: face off win after Demodov has a really good chance
- 16:22Speaker 1: in tight when Dollen gave the puck away off that
- 16:25Speaker 1: next face off arbor Jack Guy, the former Hamilton Bulldog,
- 16:29Speaker 1: takes the points shot there, gets past Lion.
- 16:32Speaker 2: It's one to one.
- 16:32Speaker 1: Another quick strike response from the Canadians, which they've done
- 16:35Speaker 1: all series long. And then shortly after that, Demodov from
- 16:39Speaker 1: the right circle takes the pass from Lane Hudson and
- 16:43Speaker 1: that was on the Krebs penalty that I don't want
- 16:45Speaker 1: to go into, but that was the power play goal
- 16:47Speaker 1: there for the Canadians and just a bomb from Demodov
- 16:49Speaker 1: and Caffield and Demodov have started to pick it up
- 16:52Speaker 1: obviously as the series has gone on.
- 16:54Speaker 2: Demodov makes it two to one.
- 16:56Speaker 1: And then shortly after Jake Evans, after Buffalo gets a
- 17:00Speaker 1: power play, Josh Norris drew the penalty on Philip Deno.
- 17:03Speaker 1: You think, okay, this is Buffalo chance here, and Dobish
- 17:07Speaker 1: came up, came up with a save, and then it
- 17:09Speaker 1: goes down the other way. Jake Evans keeps on the
- 17:10Speaker 1: two on one and goes far side on Lucan it
- 17:14Speaker 1: or on Lion excuse me, and it's three goals on
- 17:17Speaker 1: four shots. The bell center's rocking a shorthanded goal, and
- 17:20Speaker 1: all of a sudden, you see Ugo Peca Lucan And
- 17:22Speaker 1: getting his helmet and he comes in given alex lyon
- 17:25Speaker 1: the early hook there after what was meant to be
- 17:29Speaker 1: his game to kind of shine, and all of a sudden,
- 17:32Speaker 1: you know, it's three to one Montreal, And I think
- 17:34Speaker 1: the most important thing was that the Sabers have been
- 17:37Speaker 1: in this position before in this series and they didn't
- 17:40Speaker 1: let it get to them. I know, Lucan and came
- 17:42Speaker 1: up with a few saves and there was one that
- 17:44Speaker 1: was sort of hanging around his crease right right when
- 17:46Speaker 1: he came in the game. But they really held it
- 17:48Speaker 1: down there because you know, after those three goals they
- 17:50Speaker 1: could have just crumbled in the series, could have been over.
- 17:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:53Speaker 4: Absolutely, I thought that one.
- 17:55Speaker 3: That was another point in the game where I was like, Okay,
- 17:57Speaker 3: I believe they When that puck's slid through Lukenin's legs
- 18:01Speaker 3: and then out the backside, and I can't remember which
- 18:03Speaker 3: defender was there to sweep it away. When that happened,
- 18:06Speaker 3: I was like, Okay, They're not going down this easily.
- 18:10Speaker 3: They're still in this They're playing decent, and it just
- 18:15Speaker 3: felt like there's still reason to believe.
- 18:18Speaker 4: I don't know, maybe I'm just like the.
- 18:19Speaker 3: Optimist or the eternal optimist when it comes to this
- 18:22Speaker 3: team in this season in particular, because like, I don't know,
- 18:25Speaker 3: how do you doubt them after a ten game win streak,
- 18:27Speaker 3: after you know, you lose your win streak on an
- 18:30Speaker 3: ugly loss, you come back and you win four, and
- 18:32Speaker 3: you win three, and you've had to play three goalies
- 18:35Speaker 3: all year, and you've had so many injuries to start
- 18:37Speaker 3: the year and guys coming up, guys going out of
- 18:39Speaker 3: the lineup guys and getting hurt after acquired like this
- 18:43Speaker 3: just there's so many things that they have faced as
- 18:46Speaker 3: adversity throughout the year, and they just keep finding ways
- 18:50Speaker 3: to stay in it, stay alive, and keep going. This
- 18:53Speaker 3: whole game almost felt like a microcosm of the whole
- 18:55Speaker 3: season right where it was like it was so much
- 18:58Speaker 3: optimism with Dollen coming in out and score on early
- 19:01Speaker 3: and then you know, three straight. You're like, they give
- 19:04Speaker 3: up a power play goal, a shorthanded goal, and power plays,
- 19:06Speaker 3: a mass everything, and then they just pour it on
- 19:09Speaker 3: and score six straight, seven straight to to finish it out.
- 19:13Speaker 3: But yeah, that soccer goal late in the first was
- 19:16Speaker 3: the reason that I believed in it. I think that's
- 19:18Speaker 3: the reason the team still had belief going into the second.
- 19:21Speaker 1: Yeah, I think I think Mike Matheson's four minute high
- 19:24Speaker 1: sticking penalty changed this game because if he doesn't take
- 19:27Speaker 1: that on Norris and get on Norris for the cell
- 19:30Speaker 1: job as well on the bleeding, making sure that the
- 19:33Speaker 1: ref saw that, you know, they get that play that
- 19:36Speaker 1: goal and Norris sets up Zucker going going cross crease,
- 19:40Speaker 1: finding him there and it goes over the patent under
- 19:42Speaker 1: the arm adulbish So a little bit of a weird
- 19:45Speaker 1: placement of that shot, but it makes it three to
- 19:47Speaker 1: two right near the end of the period, and I
- 19:49Speaker 1: think that was massive as you mentioned to, after you
- 19:52Speaker 1: go down three to one, your goaltender gets yanked, you
- 19:54Speaker 1: get a four minute power play. If Buffalo doesn't score
- 19:57Speaker 1: in that four minute power play, the momentum continues in
- 19:59Speaker 1: mon Trell's favor and maybe they even go up for one,
- 20:03Speaker 1: but instead they let Buffalo hang around in this game,
- 20:06Speaker 1: and it's a three to two game. App Despite how
- 20:08Speaker 1: disastrous the first period was, it was only a one
- 20:11Speaker 1: goal game, and I think Buffalo and Lindy Rouff obviously
- 20:14Speaker 1: took that as positives going into the room. And they
- 20:18Speaker 1: come out, you know, a minute into the second period
- 20:20Speaker 1: and Benson picks up the rebound after Dobich couldn't find it.
- 20:22Speaker 1: He was kind of scrambling around and he buries it
- 20:25Speaker 1: in the back end. Zach Benson continues to be one
- 20:27Speaker 1: of Buffalo's most dynamic players. He's going to get himself
- 20:30Speaker 1: paid this summer, well deserved. He's turning into, you know,
- 20:34Speaker 1: a young Brad marshand in front of our eyes that
- 20:38Speaker 1: can do so many good things. And for him to
- 20:40Speaker 1: get that game tied early in the second period, Buffalo
- 20:43Speaker 1: had all the momentum after you know, what was a
- 20:46Speaker 1: disastrous first you know, eleven minutes of this game.
- 20:49Speaker 4: Yeah, Benson's goal is huge.
- 20:51Speaker 3: Again, like I've been hammering the table, I got, what
- 20:55Speaker 3: do I know about goaltending? But every single time I'm
- 20:58Speaker 3: watching a goal go in on Dobish, he is going
- 21:01Speaker 3: left to right, right to left. It just seems to
- 21:04Speaker 3: open him up when you have to make him move latterly.
- 21:07Speaker 3: And you know, they get a moving latterly latterly on
- 21:10Speaker 3: that Benson goal and he has to scramble and then
- 21:13Speaker 3: that's loses the puck and that's what allows that goal
- 21:16Speaker 3: to go in. Right, So I think the Sabers have
- 21:19Speaker 3: figured out Yakub Doobish to an extent. It's can the
- 21:23Speaker 3: Montreal defense do enough to protect the weakness that the
- 21:27Speaker 3: Sabers have now found and clearly exposed on things tonight?
- 21:31Speaker 3: But Benson's goal was huge to get it going. And
- 21:33Speaker 3: then I was texting with another friend of mine during
- 21:36Speaker 3: the first period and we were talking about Jack Quinn
- 21:38Speaker 3: because I think he had just he had hit a
- 21:40Speaker 3: post or something in that first period, and my buddy
- 21:44Speaker 3: was like, man, if I watch that guy come in
- 21:46Speaker 3: on the right side with no pressure and they let
- 21:50Speaker 3: him down there and he misses the net again like
- 21:52Speaker 3: I'm gonna lose it, and I'm like, man, jack Quinn
- 21:55Speaker 3: could win the power ball and not be able to
- 21:58Speaker 3: afford to buy a goal. But sure enough, in the
- 22:00Speaker 3: second period he shows up with the power play goal.
- 22:03Speaker 3: It was incredible to see jack Quinn break through like that,
- 22:08Speaker 3: and I think if his teammates loved it. I think
- 22:11Speaker 3: there was a crazy stat I saw on the sports Net.
- 22:13Speaker 3: I was watching the sports Net while having the WGR call,
- 22:17Speaker 3: and I think they said, like, I think he had
- 22:19Speaker 3: like fifty shot attempts going into the playoffs game tonight
- 22:23Speaker 3: and had not scored on any of them.
- 22:25Speaker 4: So for jack Quinn to finally.
- 22:27Speaker 3: Break through, I couldn't have been happier for a guy.
- 22:31Speaker 1: Twenty shots, fifty five attempts for Jack Quinn. Unbelievable to
- 22:35Speaker 1: finally get his first career playoff goal. Just cinema, as
- 22:38Speaker 1: that picture would say, just you know it's it was
- 22:42Speaker 1: big at the time.
- 22:43Speaker 2: You know. It was his first of two on the
- 22:45Speaker 2: power play. Really nice setup.
- 22:47Speaker 1: I think that was Dollen that got it over to
- 22:50Speaker 1: him on the left circle there and he just fires
- 22:52Speaker 1: it short side to make it four to three for Buffalo.
- 22:56Speaker 2: That was his second goal.
- 22:56Speaker 1: Excuse me, his first one was the one timer off
- 22:59Speaker 1: the pass from Dahlin on the other side, but yeah,
- 23:03Speaker 1: he really needed that one put Buffalo up four to three.
- 23:06Speaker 1: And I mean we can go over the entire scoring
- 23:08Speaker 1: summary here, but the skate the Sabers were down three
- 23:11Speaker 1: to one.
- 23:12Speaker 2: In this game.
- 23:13Speaker 1: They scored seven unanswered goals. I do think another big
- 23:17Speaker 1: one was Helenius or Helenus's goal to go up by two.
- 23:20Speaker 2: That was a big one.
- 23:21Speaker 1: I know the Canadians were sort of screaming for a
- 23:23Speaker 1: penalty after Joe Vellano got an elbow up from Boween
- 23:28Speaker 1: Byram trying to enter the zone. There wasn't called. Goes
- 23:31Speaker 1: for a two on one the other way, and Zucker
- 23:33Speaker 1: finds Helenos. He had a couple of chances in his
- 23:36Speaker 1: first playoff game in this same scenario, but as you mentioned,
- 23:39Speaker 1: they got dobish going you know, right to left, left
- 23:41Speaker 1: to right, and Helenus buries this one for his first
- 23:44Speaker 1: career playoff goal.
- 23:46Speaker 2: And that was big for the young man.
- 23:48Speaker 1: Obviously, he's he looks like a like a vet already
- 23:51Speaker 1: at twenty years old. The moment's not too big for
- 23:53Speaker 1: him and he gets rewarded there to put the Sabers
- 23:55Speaker 1: up by two, because I think that was really big
- 23:57Speaker 1: for them to be able to get that two goal
- 23:59Speaker 1: lead there, and that was basically all they needed tonight.
- 24:03Speaker 3: And I mean, like, I can't say enough about how
- 24:05Speaker 3: impressed I am with Helenus's ability to play up the middle.
- 24:09Speaker 3: Like when you had cool It go down earlier in
- 24:13Speaker 3: the year, we were kind of like, Okay, well that's
- 24:15Speaker 3: a center guy, but he's developing as a centerman, Like,
- 24:17Speaker 3: we'll see if that's really that big of a loss.
- 24:19Speaker 2: We acquire Sam Carrick at the deadline.
- 24:22Speaker 3: Krick's brought in to be this faceoff guy, brought into
- 24:25Speaker 3: stabilize up the middle, down low, but be able to
- 24:28Speaker 3: play up the lineup if he needs.
- 24:29Speaker 2: He gets hurt, that sucks, but.
- 24:34Speaker 3: Constant Helenis is just unbelievable to play with the poise
- 24:39Speaker 3: to be winning the face offs.
- 24:42Speaker 4: I know that he was much hyped even as a
- 24:45Speaker 4: junior player.
- 24:46Speaker 3: You know, Yoginan was talking him up as his coach
- 24:49Speaker 3: over on the European side. He's obviously impressed a lot
- 24:52Speaker 3: in Rochester as well. But I am so thrilled with
- 24:55Speaker 3: this guy. I don't want to hear his name in
- 24:58Speaker 3: any kind of trade talks go going forward. This guy
- 25:01Speaker 3: should be a cornerstone centerman that we are building a line,
- 25:04Speaker 3: building a team around up the middle. Keep this guy
- 25:08Speaker 3: in the fold absolutely, And that was their second goal
- 25:11Speaker 3: in two minutes and five seconds, which was big between
- 25:13Speaker 3: the Quinn power play goal and the hell A new
- 25:15Speaker 3: schoal obviously very big there. And then the Sabers end
- 25:21Speaker 3: up getting that that goal in the third from from
- 25:23Speaker 3: Jack Quinn, the second power play marker that really put
- 25:25Speaker 3: it out of reach there, and then Thompson gets the
- 25:28Speaker 3: empty netter with Montreal had the goalie pulled down multiple goals,
- 25:32Speaker 3: and then Zach Metsa on a late power play that
- 25:34Speaker 3: Buffalo gets rewarded after some funny stuff was going on
- 25:36Speaker 3: with you know, ten minute misconducts getting tossed everywhere, and
- 25:40Speaker 3: just a really good, feel feel good moment for Zach
- 25:42Speaker 3: Metza because obviously he hasn't played much, he hasn't played
- 25:45Speaker 3: since April fifteenth, but the great I guess reward for
- 25:48Speaker 3: him coming in in a really tough spot with their
- 25:50Speaker 3: season on the line, getting rewarded with a you know,
- 25:52Speaker 3: a garbage time power play goal like let's let's call
- 25:55Speaker 3: it for what it is. But at the same time,
- 25:57Speaker 3: you know, the Sabers end up winning this game eight three,
- 26:00Speaker 3: but they don't get there with the con without the
- 26:02Speaker 3: contribution to some of those guys in that second period.
- 26:04Speaker 3: Metsa looked unbelievable tonight. Like I have to say that
- 26:09Speaker 3: I was not buying the hype. I was not drinking
- 26:11Speaker 3: the kool aid on Metsa. I know the stats of
- 26:13Speaker 3: how many wins they had when he was in the
- 26:15Speaker 3: lineup versus not.
- 26:16Speaker 2: I get all that, but.
- 26:19Speaker 3: I thought he really stabilized the back end tonight and
- 26:23Speaker 3: just was a great just great at putting out fires.
- 26:27Speaker 3: Like anytime things started to kind of get a little
- 26:29Speaker 3: crazy in the zone, he was able to make the
- 26:32Speaker 3: easy play.
- 26:33Speaker 2: And get the puck out.
- 26:34Speaker 3: And then I think that power play goal was just
- 26:37Speaker 3: a reward for what was a really solid night and
- 26:39Speaker 3: a really solid return to the lineup for Zach Metza.
- 26:42Speaker 3: Probably the best decision that Lindy Ruff has made coaching
- 26:45Speaker 3: wise this entire playoffs, And that might be might be
- 26:48Speaker 3: an overstatement, but I don't.
- 26:50Speaker 2: Think it is right now, No, it isn't.
- 26:53Speaker 1: And I think you know that sixth defenseman has been
- 26:57Speaker 1: a topic of conversation obviously with you know, TIMMS had
- 27:00Speaker 1: a really rough game last game, SHN was in there.
- 27:03Speaker 1: SHN got them to win. In Game five, he didn't
- 27:05Speaker 1: play much. He was sheltered minutes. I haven't exactly looked
- 27:09Speaker 1: at the ice time yet. I got it to pull
- 27:11Speaker 1: up in a little bit here. But I think that
- 27:15Speaker 1: you know what, what Zach Metsa gives you is stability
- 27:18Speaker 1: back there. But he's also he's also mobile, and I
- 27:21Speaker 1: think that's something that you lack from a Luke Shn
- 27:24Speaker 1: and a Logan Stanley. For whatever reason, Michael kessel Ring
- 27:27Speaker 1: has now become the ninth defenseman on this team. And
- 27:29Speaker 1: again that's a discussion for the offseason whether he's you know,
- 27:33Speaker 1: played his last game as a Saber or not. But
- 27:36Speaker 1: I was really happy to see Zach Metsa get to
- 27:38Speaker 1: get in because I think he deserved it. And you know,
- 27:41Speaker 1: I think that they they held the fourth there when
- 27:44Speaker 1: Montreal was really pressing and then allowed Buffalo to sort
- 27:48Speaker 1: of take over that game. They didn't really I didn't
- 27:50Speaker 1: notice Zach Metsa a lot in the defensive end. I
- 27:52Speaker 1: think that was a good thing, Like he wasn't caught
- 27:54Speaker 1: at a position. He wasn't giving up big, big breakdowns
- 27:57Speaker 1: or big you know, opportunities for the Canadians after they
- 27:59Speaker 1: got that lead, they sort of just went into it
- 28:01Speaker 1: to a prevent mode. But I was really happy with
- 28:04Speaker 1: the way that that Metsa played, and I think he's
- 28:06Speaker 1: earned himself that spot for Game seven.
- 28:08Speaker 3: It's funny, actually, I'm looking over the box score and
- 28:10Speaker 3: I didn't I couldn't even tell you where this happened,
- 28:13Speaker 3: but Zach mets was the only Sabers defenseman to finish
- 28:16Speaker 3: on the minus tonight. He was actually minus one with
- 28:19Speaker 3: his twelve minutes and nineteen seconds of ice time.
- 28:22Speaker 4: I couldn't tell you where that happened or what.
- 28:25Speaker 2: The mistake was.
- 28:26Speaker 4: You know, I was sitting here praising him.
- 28:27Speaker 3: We're talking about how he wasn't very noticeable in the
- 28:29Speaker 3: defensive end. But whatever you plus minus isn gonna lose
- 28:34Speaker 3: isn't always the most truth telling stat. But yeah, pretty
- 28:38Speaker 3: wild to see that every single Sabers defenseman besides Metsa
- 28:41Speaker 3: was a plus tonight.
- 28:43Speaker 1: Yeah, quickly going over that. You can see it on
- 28:45Speaker 1: the YouTube version for you people listening in. Benson was
- 28:48Speaker 1: one goal, one assist, plus three to night ten pims.
- 28:51Speaker 1: It's usually a pretty you know, pretty standard statistic for
- 28:54Speaker 1: number six. He logged over twenty minutes tonight. The other
- 28:57Speaker 1: forwards that logged over twenty minutes were McLoud at time
- 29:00Speaker 1: twenty one to fifty six and nobody else.
- 29:03Speaker 2: Actually, those are the only two.
- 29:04Speaker 1: On the defensive side of things, you had Samuelson at
- 29:07Speaker 1: twenty two to fifty three power at twenty two to
- 29:09Speaker 1: twenty two, and he was We didn't really mention him
- 29:11Speaker 1: off the top. He was questionable coming in after he
- 29:15Speaker 1: got nicked up there in Game five, but he was
- 29:16Speaker 1: good enough to go and played some solid minutes tonight
- 29:19Speaker 1: for Buffalo. Was a plus one there took twenty four shifts.
- 29:22Speaker 1: Daleen played just under twenty minutes. Metsa played twelve nineteen,
- 29:26Speaker 1: so again he was able to play a decent amount.
- 29:29Speaker 1: And Timmins had a bounce back game I believe comparatively
- 29:33Speaker 1: atrocious Game five that he had.
- 29:34Speaker 2: He had five blocks tonight.
- 29:36Speaker 1: I know he had three giveaways, but he played seventeen
- 29:38Speaker 1: minutes tonight and got to give him number twenty one
- 29:41Speaker 1: credit the Saint Catherine's Native. I think he had a
- 29:43Speaker 1: really good bounce back after, you know, what was a
- 29:45Speaker 1: really tough Game five for him.
- 29:47Speaker 3: Yeah, I really love Timmins game tonight. I thought he
- 29:49Speaker 3: was really effective, really a huge bounce back. I know
- 29:52Speaker 3: that giveaways. I think giveaways are also not necessarily a
- 29:56Speaker 3: misleading stat but I think there's just so easy against
- 29:59Speaker 3: a team like all They've got active sticks, they got
- 30:02Speaker 3: quick foot speed.
- 30:03Speaker 2: You're gonna give the puck away. You can't play a
- 30:05Speaker 2: perfect game.
- 30:06Speaker 3: But the biggest thing that I thought made the Savers
- 30:09Speaker 3: successful throughout this entire night, it was their ability to battle.
- 30:12Speaker 3: Even when they did lose a puck battle or even
- 30:15Speaker 3: when they did turn it over, it seemed like they
- 30:17Speaker 3: were right there dogging back to get that puck again.
- 30:21Speaker 3: And I just don't think they allowed Montreal to get
- 30:24Speaker 3: to their game. And you know it was it was huge.
- 30:28Speaker 3: I really they gave themselves a blueprint, like even more
- 30:32Speaker 3: so than Game four. Like Game four was a great win,
- 30:35Speaker 3: it was a great road win. You battled out, You
- 30:37Speaker 3: probably won a game that maybe you shouldn't have tonight,
- 30:40Speaker 3: they deserve to win this game.
- 30:42Speaker 4: So how do you build on that?
- 30:43Speaker 3: How do you what do you take away from this
- 30:45Speaker 3: game to go into Game seven in your home rink,
- 30:48Speaker 3: which you, for whatever reason, have struggled with this year
- 30:52Speaker 3: in this postseason. How do you take that game and
- 30:55Speaker 3: make it apply at home for a do or die
- 30:57Speaker 3: Game seven, which is what every player is dreamt of
- 31:01Speaker 3: doing for this Sabers team. I mean, how could you
- 31:05Speaker 3: want anything more other than this? Like, how could we
- 31:07Speaker 3: ask for anything but this? I mean to have seven
- 31:10Speaker 3: games of this series, win loser drawing Game seven. We
- 31:13Speaker 3: have been rewarded with an awesome one, but man, I'm
- 31:17Speaker 3: I'm so fired up, but I just want to see
- 31:18Speaker 3: them not fall flat, just build on this and finish
- 31:22Speaker 3: this series strong.
- 31:24Speaker 1: You're one of the last five teams remaining, you won
- 31:26Speaker 1: the Atlantic Division, and now you're going to Game seven
- 31:28Speaker 1: with a chance to go to the Eastern Conference Final
- 31:30Speaker 1: after a fourteen season playoff throat. So again we talk
- 31:33Speaker 1: about the negatives and things like that. You know, it's
- 31:36Speaker 1: just I think that win loser draws you mentioned, it's
- 31:40Speaker 1: still a successful season. I know the Sabers fans want more,
- 31:43Speaker 1: and you know it's right there for the taking. But
- 31:45Speaker 1: I got to take the posites where we can get them.
- 31:49Speaker 1: I don't know, there's something I want to kind of
- 31:51Speaker 1: ask you, but we Lindy Russ coming to the podium.
- 31:53Speaker 1: So for those listening in audio, this is where we're
- 31:55Speaker 1: gonna take our quick commercial break, but right back here

- 37:11Speaker 1: Robert Hunter. Here's what the Sabers head coach had to
- 37:13Speaker 1: say following his team's bounce back performance tight in game six.
- 37:16Speaker 9: A couple of Bucks went in and we were playing well,
- 37:19Speaker 9: got off the great start, playing well, and I just
- 37:22Speaker 9: told the team stay with it. We're moving the puck well,
- 37:25Speaker 9: defending well.
- 37:27Speaker 7: Lindy, you guys at ow.
- 37:28Speaker 5: Five and one on the road in these playoffs, but
- 37:30Speaker 5: they're five and two of the road.
- 37:32Speaker 7: You know, why, why can't that be when.
- 37:34Speaker 2: These two arenas are so exciting that.
- 37:36Speaker 7: The home team seems to be better off on the road.
- 37:39Speaker 9: Well, we're in the process of seeing if we can
- 37:41Speaker 9: play here on Monday, Lindy.
- 37:50Speaker 5: Going off of that, how do you make Monday feel
- 37:53Speaker 5: like a road game?
- 37:54Speaker 7: Does this involve like added hotels.
- 37:57Speaker 5: Or what are you guys going to do?
- 37:58Speaker 9: Yeah, we've got some thought going into that right now,
- 38:01Speaker 9: but we are going to change up what we've done
- 38:02Speaker 9: at home. I don't I don't have the I really
- 38:07Speaker 9: don't have the answer, and I don't think anybody has
- 38:12Speaker 9: been able to help me with the answer yet. So uh,
- 38:15Speaker 9: you know, I'm sure they're probably searching for the answer
- 38:17Speaker 9: to you know, in their building in Boston was searching
- 38:20Speaker 9: for the same answer in their building. So we know
- 38:25Speaker 9: it's it's one game now for a chance to move on.
- 38:31Speaker 9: Today's askings his first elimination game and he scored on
- 38:34Speaker 9: his first shift and ends up with five points.
- 38:36Speaker 7: And what ways did he he set the toe to you.
- 38:38Speaker 9: Guys, Well, you know again, we've been able to get
- 38:43Speaker 9: off to a quick start. I thought, just that little
- 38:45Speaker 9: rotation and in the play he made, you know, I
- 38:50Speaker 9: think he held on long enough. Somebody went by him
- 38:52Speaker 9: there lowing the D zone and he got to the
- 38:55Speaker 9: net on his backhand, and the heck of a shot
- 38:57Speaker 9: and I don't know whether it went off understick or not,
- 39:01Speaker 9: but it was it was at that time was I mean,
- 39:06Speaker 9: we've been able to score early and that helps take
- 39:10Speaker 9: a little bit of this crowd out of it.
- 39:14Speaker 8: More than the lean for most of your players, that
- 39:16Speaker 8: was a new experience, which we're back against a Waltz.
- 39:20Speaker 7: How proud are you that will your leaders respond to
- 39:23Speaker 7: night in that game?
- 39:24Speaker 9: Very proud of our guys. We talked this morning about
- 39:29Speaker 9: everybody needs to play the best game, that the regular
- 39:33Speaker 9: season doesn't mean anything. In the Boston series doesn't mean
- 39:36Speaker 9: anything in the five games from this point really don't
- 39:40Speaker 9: mean anything. The our defining moment is this game tonight,
- 39:44Speaker 9: that we have to play our best game.
- 39:48Speaker 7: Wendy, what went into all the lineup changes?
- 39:51Speaker 5: You shoveled up the line, you switch your goalie, Like,
- 39:53Speaker 5: what went into that?
- 39:54Speaker 8: And how do you feel like like it worked out?
- 39:57Speaker 1: Uh?
- 39:58Speaker 9: You know, I just think the that you know, our
- 40:02Speaker 9: top line had struggled. They had been good for such
- 40:04Speaker 9: a long time. I mean we'd had a few times
- 40:06Speaker 9: we'd switched back and forth, but really felt that it
- 40:10Speaker 9: was it was just time to make a change. You know,
- 40:15Speaker 9: met with the coaches and you know talking like probably
- 40:19Speaker 9: you guys are talking how can you break up this
- 40:20Speaker 9: line and how can you break up that line? But
- 40:23Speaker 9: the bottom line is we just felt it would help
- 40:27Speaker 9: our couple of our guys get going and and we
- 40:30Speaker 9: went back to the McLeod don talk line, which played
- 40:35Speaker 9: a lot earlier in the year. You know, she just
- 40:38Speaker 9: looked back on games that you know, you thought lines
- 40:41Speaker 9: were real good, and we thought there was a connection
- 40:44Speaker 9: between There was times when awesome would play with Benson
- 40:47Speaker 9: and Tom. Uh So we just decided to put Tom
- 40:53Speaker 9: er over on that side. So I mean, just discussions,
- 40:58Speaker 9: trying to trying to generate the more from your top guys.
- 41:03Speaker 8: Lindy, what in particular sparked this team in the second period.
- 41:10Speaker 9: Yeah, you know, I'll still say this. I thought we
- 41:12Speaker 9: played a hell of a first period. We just didn't
- 41:14Speaker 9: win the score sheet battle. I thought we played an
- 41:19Speaker 9: even better second period, for sure. I thought our skating
- 41:22Speaker 9: in the offensive zone we separated all the time. It
- 41:27Speaker 9: made it really tough. It made it really tough on coverage.
- 41:30Speaker 9: They couldn't quite catch up to, you know, the low rotation,
- 41:34Speaker 9: some of the high rotation, and all of a sudden
- 41:37Speaker 9: we had guys open. But it's like I said this morning,
- 41:41Speaker 9: we need to skate. We need to skate on bucks.
- 41:44Speaker 9: And I thought that was the biggest difference in the
- 41:48Speaker 9: boat zones for us. We skated, We took space and
- 41:51Speaker 9: time away in the D zone, and we skated away
- 41:54Speaker 9: from people in the offensive zone.
- 42:00Speaker 1: There was Sabers head coach Lindy Ruff on the Wild
- 42:03Speaker 1: Bills Auto repair postgame his thoughts tonight after the Big
- 42:07Speaker 1: eight three victory.
- 42:08Speaker 2: Jonathan as Always.
- 42:10Speaker 1: Video courtesy of x dot Com, Slash Buffalo, Sabers MSG
- 42:13Speaker 1: and the National Hockey League. You joked at the beginning
- 42:16Speaker 1: about we're trying to see if we can have Game
- 42:18Speaker 1: seven back here in Montreal. I don't know Sabers fan
- 42:20Speaker 1: would be pretty happy about that, but yeah, I mean
- 42:22Speaker 1: he said he might change some things up for their
- 42:24Speaker 1: preparation going into the Game seven as well, which I
- 42:27Speaker 1: thought was interesting. Maybe get them to stay at a hotel,
- 42:29Speaker 1: which they do on the road. I've heard teams do
- 42:32Speaker 1: that before to try to, you know, simulate, you know,
- 42:35Speaker 1: the solid road play.
- 42:37Speaker 2: But what did you What were your takeaways from what
- 42:38Speaker 2: Lindy said tonight.
- 42:40Speaker 4: I love his sense of humor. I love how light.
- 42:45Speaker 3: This version of Lindy Ruff has been, this era of
- 42:49Speaker 3: Lindy Ruff. Not that he didn't have like a joking
- 42:51Speaker 3: past when he was the coach previous, but he really
- 42:55Speaker 3: seems that like as he has matured and gone on
- 42:58Speaker 3: his career, he's learned how to take things light. He's
- 43:00Speaker 3: learned how to deflect a lot of the serious questions
- 43:03Speaker 3: in a much better way.
- 43:05Speaker 2: He's always been so good in the media.
- 43:07Speaker 3: But I just I think the biggest thing that I
- 43:10Speaker 3: hear from him is that they just they know what
- 43:14Speaker 3: they have to do right and I think that there's
- 43:18Speaker 3: a great comment here in the chat from a trip
- 43:20Speaker 3: to Man reminding us about the fact that the season
- 43:22Speaker 3: did start with Benson, Norris and Tage as a line commination,
- 43:26Speaker 3: and that Zucker McLeod Tuck was a really hot line
- 43:29Speaker 3: that we saw last year. Right, there's enough chemistry throughout
- 43:34Speaker 3: this lineup that you can have the confidence to go
- 43:37Speaker 3: and mix things up, So you know, I think, yes,
- 43:41Speaker 3: they probably second guests themselves when they were looking at
- 43:44Speaker 3: that lineup board or they're looking at the whiteboard in
- 43:46Speaker 3: the locker room between Lindy and the other coaching staff.
- 43:50Speaker 3: I'm glad they made the decisions that they made. I'm
- 43:52Speaker 3: glad that they were willing to risk it, and yeah,
- 43:55Speaker 3: we'll see what We'll see.
- 43:57Speaker 4: What the me and the energy's like.
- 43:59Speaker 3: I mean, even if they did in Montreal for Game seven,
- 44:03Speaker 3: Key Bank was packed tonight for a watch party, I'm
- 44:05Speaker 3: sure it'd be the same thing.
- 44:06Speaker 2: So Savers fans would be probably pretty thrilled with that.
- 44:08Speaker 1: So Canalside's going to be rocking on Wednesday night and
- 44:12Speaker 1: the Blade crew I think will be you know, the
- 44:15Speaker 1: population of Palmonville probably out there, and I'm interested to
- 44:19Speaker 1: see who the the drum will be because we know
- 44:22Speaker 1: that it hasn't worked o well for the Savers as
- 44:24Speaker 1: of late. But you know, whoever they bring in for
- 44:26Speaker 1: that drum, I who are sure hope they win or
- 44:28Speaker 1: they're going to be said that they were the jinks
- 44:29Speaker 1: of the Savers not advancing to the Eastern Conference Final.
- 44:34Speaker 2: We got some Tames Thompson audio.
- 44:35Speaker 1: I think we should go to him as well because
- 44:36Speaker 1: he had obviously a big bounce back performance tonight. With
- 44:41Speaker 1: with his performance he had on the night a goal
- 44:45Speaker 1: and three assists, he was a plus three six shots
- 44:47Speaker 1: on net three hits for number seventy two of the
- 44:51Speaker 1: leader of the Sabers up front and was able to
- 44:54Speaker 1: gain some confidence there on the wing. Let's go to
- 44:56Speaker 1: Tae Thompson. Hear what he had to say following this
- 44:58Speaker 1: big victory tonight, and so.
- 45:01Speaker 8: You know, I think everyone in this room just looked
- 45:03Speaker 8: at it.
- 45:04Speaker 7: It doesn't really matter what's happened up to this point.
- 45:06Speaker 8: You know, regular season, first round, the previous five games
- 45:11Speaker 8: in this round.
- 45:12Speaker 7: Our only job was to win a hockey.
- 45:14Speaker 8: Game tonight, and we've done that and now the same
- 45:17Speaker 8: thing doesn't matter what we've done up until this point
- 45:19Speaker 8: in this game.
- 45:20Speaker 9: OAE in the second period might have been what was
- 45:21Speaker 9: the mess we see three guys in this playoff? What
- 45:23Speaker 9: was the mess in going out into that period?
- 45:26Speaker 7: We we loved our first period.
- 45:29Speaker 8: You know, the score wasn't representative of it, but we
- 45:33Speaker 8: were playing the game the right way. I thought we
- 45:34Speaker 8: were putting pucks deep, you know, for check and take
- 45:38Speaker 8: away over time and space, and I thought our dson
- 45:39Speaker 8: was was good. We were getting looks. We knew that
- 45:44Speaker 8: we played that way for you know, the rest of
- 45:46Speaker 8: the game, that we were going to find ourselves back
- 45:49Speaker 8: in it if not, you know, in the lead, and
- 45:52Speaker 8: how our play was great for us tonight. Kill came
- 45:54Speaker 8: up big when we needed and obviously it will be
- 45:57Speaker 8: steps in and make some big stays when we need
- 46:00Speaker 8: them as well. Take after game five arrestments fantastic.
- 46:03Speaker 1: It was just a matter of if you guys best
- 46:04Speaker 1: players being the best players, and you said, yeah.
- 46:06Speaker 8: Simple as that.
- 46:07Speaker 2: How much did you guys sort of put.
- 46:08Speaker 7: That message kind of like on your shoulders coming into
- 46:10Speaker 7: this months, like.
- 46:12Speaker 8: Yeah, that's something I think we we all in here
- 46:16Speaker 8: pride ourselves on, you know, being the best player every
- 46:20Speaker 8: time we step on the ice.
- 46:21Speaker 7: I don't think anyone goes into a game to play
- 46:25Speaker 7: a game.
- 46:26Speaker 8: Without that expectation of themselves, or at least they should
- 46:30Speaker 8: have that expectation of themselves. And you know it's something
- 46:33Speaker 8: that everyone in this room has. And you know that
- 46:38Speaker 8: there's obviously games that don't go your way or where
- 46:40Speaker 8: you don't have your best effort or need to be better.
- 46:43Speaker 8: And you know, the sun comes up in the morning
- 46:46Speaker 8: and get a new opportunity to do that. And today
- 46:47Speaker 8: was was just like that. So new opportunity, new challenge
- 46:51Speaker 8: in front of us today. It doesn't really matter what's
- 46:53Speaker 8: happened in the past. So that's really the only way
- 46:56Speaker 8: you can look at things.
- 46:58Speaker 4: Do you do an as individuals and collectively as the grip.
- 47:02Speaker 7: The same thing we did tonight.
- 47:04Speaker 8: Forget about what's happened up to this point and let's
- 47:07Speaker 8: play a shift at a time and focus on your job.
- 47:10Speaker 2: There was TAJE.
- 47:11Speaker 1: Thompson on the Nigra Dentric Clinic Free Tier Player Interview,
- 47:14Speaker 1: brought to you by the Niagra Dentric Clinic creating actual
- 47:16Speaker 1: smiles in the Niagara region for over twenty five years. Jonathan,
- 47:21Speaker 1: you know good stuff there from Tage Thompson as always.
- 47:23Speaker 1: A video courtesy of x dot Com, Slash Buffalo Sabers
- 47:26Speaker 1: MSG and the National Hockey League. It seemed like he
- 47:29Speaker 1: had a nice bounce back tonight and had the mindset
- 47:31Speaker 1: that they were going to have a bounce back performance
- 47:33Speaker 1: with their best players needing to be their best players,
- 47:35Speaker 1: and they showed that tonight.
- 47:37Speaker 3: Yeah, they were like even if the score sheet wasn't
- 47:40Speaker 3: dominated by Thompson. I mean, Dollian had five and I
- 47:43Speaker 3: guess Thompson had four points, right, So they did show
- 47:46Speaker 3: up on the score sheet. It was just the actual
- 47:48Speaker 3: way they drove play for me that I was super
- 47:51Speaker 3: impressed by. And it started early with Dallian taking it
- 47:53Speaker 3: to the net and having that absolute highlight reel goal
- 47:57Speaker 3: to kick off the game. Obviously it goes a little
- 47:59Speaker 3: sideways from them, but they fight back. They make smart plays,
- 48:03Speaker 3: even that empty net or that Thompson ends up with
- 48:05Speaker 3: such a smart play to just look up the ice
- 48:08Speaker 3: and just get it towards the net and see what happens,
- 48:11Speaker 3: right as opposed to making a panicked play maybe trying
- 48:15Speaker 3: to skate it a little bit further. The best players
- 48:17Speaker 3: showed up tonight for the Sabers, and that almost galvanized
- 48:20Speaker 3: the rest of the group and allowed them to do
- 48:23Speaker 3: their thing. You saw Jack Quinn break through for those
- 48:26Speaker 3: power play goals. Awesome to see Helenius, Awesome to see
- 48:30Speaker 3: his performance tonight.
- 48:31Speaker 4: Alex Stuck, I know.
- 48:32Speaker 3: His score sheet's not gonna look great with the dash
- 48:35Speaker 3: one and the zeros on the board, but I really
- 48:38Speaker 3: thought Tuck had a better game, maybe his best game
- 48:40Speaker 3: of the series, which again it just goes to show
- 48:43Speaker 3: that he's even got another gear that they can reach
- 48:45Speaker 3: and they're gonna need it from Alex Stuck going into
- 48:48Speaker 3: Game seven.
- 48:49Speaker 1: And I will say about Thompson, like early in the series,
- 48:53Speaker 1: he was asked if he's playing hurt and he basically
- 48:55Speaker 1: snapped back at Paul Hamilton, who's the Sabers, you know,
- 48:58Speaker 1: a traveling reporter, and basically says, of your business. So
- 49:01Speaker 1: to me, that that means that out that TAJE. Thompson's
- 49:04Speaker 1: not one hundred percent. We saw that he wasn't able
- 49:06Speaker 1: to kind of really get that one timer go, and
- 49:08Speaker 1: he hasn't been able to really elevate a lot of
- 49:10Speaker 1: pucks on that breakaway that he had in Game five.
- 49:13Speaker 1: That was a big opportunity for Buffalo he wasn't able
- 49:15Speaker 1: to do that there. So even if he is, you know,
- 49:17Speaker 1: playing herd, he's choosing to be in the lineup, right,
- 49:19Speaker 1: So if you're in the lineup, then you're expected to produce.
- 49:21Speaker 1: And we know that twenty six, seventy two and eighty
- 49:24Speaker 1: nine have been heavily criticized in the series, you know,
- 49:26Speaker 1: after you know, having a good first series against Boston,
- 49:30Speaker 1: but they were just having their lunch eating by the
- 49:32Speaker 1: Canadians top players and the cow Fields and the you know,
- 49:35Speaker 1: the Suzuki's, the Slefkowski's and and Cole and Lane Hudson
- 49:39Speaker 1: running the power play unit for them. So it it
- 49:42Speaker 1: was a definite needed bounce back performance tonight. And as
- 49:45Speaker 1: you mentioned, a five point night for Dolleen, a four
- 49:47Speaker 1: point night for Thompson. I know Tuck, you know, didn't
- 49:51Speaker 1: really get on the score sheet as well, and he's
- 49:52Speaker 1: you know, turned into the new Jack Quinn where he's
- 49:54Speaker 1: just snake bit now. But you noticed eighty nine a
- 49:57Speaker 1: little bit more tonight, even though you know that second
- 50:00Speaker 1: did have some struggles tonight. You know, I thought Ryan
- 50:03Speaker 1: McLeod had a good game, He had some bursts of speed,
- 50:06Speaker 1: He had a post as well, like I thought that
- 50:08Speaker 1: the lineup changes for Lindy and throwing them all into
- 50:11Speaker 1: a blender, you know, really woke the team up. And
- 50:13Speaker 1: you know they got the contributions from up and down
- 50:15Speaker 1: the lineup tonight.
- 50:17Speaker 3: Yeah, And I thought again, like even tonight with Thompson,
- 50:22Speaker 3: it seemed like he could shoot the puck a little
- 50:24Speaker 3: bit better. So I don't know if the guys all
- 50:26Speaker 3: went like a hyperbaric chamber and everybody like magically felt
- 50:31Speaker 3: better or what. I don't know what kind of sports
- 50:33Speaker 3: science tricks that they had, but it just seemed like
- 50:36Speaker 3: everybody had just a little bit.
- 50:38Speaker 2: More in the tank tonight.
- 50:40Speaker 3: You know, I mentioned the last time we had a
- 50:42Speaker 3: chance to have this conversation and you had me on
- 50:45Speaker 3: how in the Boston series it was so noticeable when
- 50:49Speaker 3: the Savers would get that two day break, how much
- 50:52Speaker 3: speed they came out of the gate with after.
- 50:55Speaker 4: Those rest days. They obviously don't have that in this series.
- 50:59Speaker 3: It's gonna be a challenge once again to regroup for
- 51:01Speaker 3: a huge Game seven, pressure packed moment at Key Bank.
- 51:06Speaker 2: We'll see.
- 51:07Speaker 3: I like the idea of putting the team on the road.
- 51:09Speaker 3: I mean, even in the NFL, that's a very common
- 51:12Speaker 3: thing where like the home team stays in a hotel
- 51:15Speaker 3: the night before a game and they lock in, and
- 51:18Speaker 3: I think, just it seems like with this group too,
- 51:20Speaker 3: the big thing about being on the road and being
- 51:22Speaker 3: together is it seems to give the guys like just
- 51:25Speaker 3: this camaraderie. It seems like that's been the story of
- 51:28Speaker 3: this team altogether, is you know, going back to Dolly
- 51:31Speaker 3: and talking about drinking beers with the boys, right, everybody
- 51:33Speaker 3: going to dinner together. It just seems like that that
- 51:36Speaker 3: atmosphere of maybe being all together in the hotel the
- 51:39Speaker 3: night before a big game, maybe that can bring some
- 51:43Speaker 3: magic as maybe that as annoying as that might be,
- 51:46Speaker 3: as frustrating as that might be for some of the
- 51:48Speaker 3: families and stuff like that, it's if that's what's got
- 51:51Speaker 3: to be done to make Game seven happen. And one
- 51:54Speaker 3: other weird stat because I don't know, I don't know
- 51:57Speaker 3: if and maybe you can tell me if this happened,
- 51:59Speaker 3: but they are undefeated at home when Sabertooth comes down
- 52:04Speaker 3: from the rafters.
- 52:06Speaker 2: I don't think he did it in.
- 52:07Speaker 3: Game five, but he did it in Game one of
- 52:10Speaker 3: the Boston series and Game one of the Montreal series.
- 52:15Speaker 3: So to get up there, buddy, you're coming down the rafters.
- 52:19Speaker 3: That if that might be the thing that we need
- 52:22Speaker 3: most for the Savers to win.
- 52:25Speaker 1: Need saber Tooth to risk his life in order for
- 52:27Speaker 1: the Sabers to advance. But yeah, I mean seven goal
- 52:30Speaker 1: scorers tonight for Buffalo. Obviously, they like the big guys
- 52:33Speaker 1: stepped up, but they also got the contributions you know,
- 52:36Speaker 1: up and down the lineup. Maybe that was because the
- 52:38Speaker 1: lines got you know, people got spread out a little
- 52:41Speaker 1: bit more to have that depth scoring. I don't think
- 52:43Speaker 1: the fourth line score, but I think the other three
- 52:44Speaker 1: lines did produce tonight, which was big obviously, and lucan
- 52:48Speaker 1: In you know, was a big performer as well, you know,
- 52:51Speaker 1: looking at that. But I think there's a few statistics
- 52:54Speaker 1: I just want to quickly throw up on the screen
- 52:56Speaker 1: for you guys, just to kind of show what the
- 52:58Speaker 1: what what an interesting game this was. This was for
- 53:03Speaker 1: both teams. This is an interesting one from sports net stats.
- 53:07Speaker 1: This is the first playoff game to feature four goalies
- 53:09Speaker 1: who played without getting injured since Game three of the
- 53:12Speaker 1: twenty twelve Eastern Conference quarter or Eastern quarter Finals between
- 53:16Speaker 1: the Florida Panthers and the New Jersey Devils.
- 53:19Speaker 3: Weird stat would have thought that was the Pittsburgh Philadelphia
- 53:22Speaker 3: series back in the day, but I guess that would
- 53:24Speaker 3: make sense.
- 53:25Speaker 1: And then the Sabers multi goal comeback record. Tonight's win
- 53:29Speaker 1: marks the second time Buffalo has earned five wins in
- 53:32Speaker 1: their first six road contest in a single playoff year.
- 53:34Speaker 1: The Sabers also did it from April twenty second to
- 53:37Speaker 1: May twenty third and nineteen ninety eight. It's the third
- 53:39Speaker 1: multi goal comeback win when facing elimination in franchise history,
- 53:44Speaker 1: following Game six of the nineteen eighty three Division Finals
- 53:48Speaker 1: and in Game four of the nineteen eighty semi finals
- 53:51Speaker 1: that we both were not around for.
- 53:52Speaker 3: No, we were not, but unbelievable, man Like, there's just
- 53:56Speaker 3: so many weird things that are happening with this run,
- 53:59Speaker 3: which makes it feel that much more special and just
- 54:01Speaker 3: makes me really hope that we get something good in
- 54:03Speaker 3: Game seven.
- 54:04Speaker 1: And then the last one here to go over is
- 54:07Speaker 1: Rasmus Dahalin joins Derek Roy on May fifth, two thousand
- 54:10Speaker 1: and six, as At Ottawa and John Tucker. As I
- 54:13Speaker 1: mentioned earlier April on April tenth, nineteen eighty eight, versus
- 54:17Speaker 1: Boston is the only Saber skaters to record five points
- 54:20Speaker 1: in a playoff game all time, so no Saber has
- 54:23Speaker 1: had more than that. So he joins Derek Roy again
- 54:26Speaker 1: for another statistic there. So yeah, trip the man says,
- 54:30Speaker 1: drop Sabertooth on Jack. Yeah, well, I don't know which
- 54:35Speaker 1: which Montreal player you're referring to there, but you know,
- 54:38Speaker 1: maybe Upie comes out and maybe Upie and saber Toooth
- 54:41Speaker 1: can have a scrap for the boys and really get
- 54:43Speaker 1: the crowd fired up.
- 54:44Speaker 2: I don't know, but I don't know if you saw it.
- 54:46Speaker 3: His tooth took a bit of a spill at the
- 54:49Speaker 3: at the watch party tonight. I guess they had the
- 54:52Speaker 3: big flag that they pass around the stands.
- 54:54Speaker 2: It was out on the main like ice.
- 54:56Speaker 3: Yeah, and for whatever reason, they left Tooth alone to
- 54:59Speaker 3: try and wrap it up and pull it.
- 55:00Speaker 2: Off the ice himself.
- 55:01Speaker 3: He took a little bit of a tumble, but honestly,
- 55:04Speaker 3: as long as he is a okay to goal, I
- 55:07Speaker 3: think you got to get the guy up on the
- 55:08Speaker 3: rafters and get Sabertooth coming down to fire up the
- 55:11Speaker 3: crowd a key bank in game seven and make it
- 55:14Speaker 3: extra special.
- 55:15Speaker 4: Sabers and seven.
- 55:17Speaker 2: I believe.
- 55:18Speaker 1: I believe usually I'm the eternal optimist on this show
- 55:22Speaker 1: and Austin's the pessimist. So I guess I have to
- 55:24Speaker 1: play the role of pessimist now since you've now become
- 55:27Speaker 1: the eternal optimist coming in relief. So I don't know,
- 55:30Speaker 1: we can't have both of us banging the table in positivity.
- 55:33Speaker 2: I don't know, but.
- 55:35Speaker 1: Maybe I'll be on both sides of the fence depending
- 55:38Speaker 1: on who's on the show. I can play both gimmicks
- 55:40Speaker 1: if needed.
- 55:41Speaker 4: But all right, which goalie do you start for Game seven?
- 55:43Speaker 1: Then you gotta go back to Lucanan. I mean, I
- 55:45Speaker 1: know lyon you wanted to go to him, and I
- 55:47Speaker 1: know Lucanan struggled heavily at home, But I think you
- 55:50Speaker 1: gotta go Lucan in after he came in and you
- 55:52Speaker 1: saved your season basically in that first period.
- 55:55Speaker 4: I can't disagree with that.
- 55:57Speaker 3: And I really think if I'm Lindy, I pull Lion
- 56:00Speaker 3: aside and be like, just be ready because the leash
- 56:05Speaker 3: is going to be an all time short.
- 56:06Speaker 4: I don't even know.
- 56:07Speaker 3: If Global Pet Food sells a leash that short that
- 56:10Speaker 3: is going to be on the goaltenders.
- 56:12Speaker 2: How about that for a plug.
- 56:13Speaker 1: There you go, A love that, but yeah, it's almost
- 56:15Speaker 1: like the opener in baseball, like he's got a very
- 56:18Speaker 1: short seas we got. We already got a guy warming
- 56:21Speaker 1: up in the pen in the first inning, just in case.
- 56:23Speaker 2: How to get you through?
- 56:25Speaker 4: Is it possible to put Ellis bench?
- 56:27Speaker 9: Like?
- 56:28Speaker 3: Can we dress like eleven forwards and carry Ellis for
- 56:31Speaker 3: a goal? I know Trip the Hants had a couple
- 56:34Speaker 3: of times where he's mentioning Ellis here. I did watch
- 56:38Speaker 3: Colt Malice win US a game in Buffalo against Montreal
- 56:42Speaker 3: this year on Reunion Night, So it wouldn't be insane
- 56:46Speaker 3: at this point to see Colt Malice trust for the
- 56:48Speaker 3: Sabers and get on the IC in Game seven, It
- 56:50Speaker 3: wouldn't surprise me in the slightest.
- 56:52Speaker 2: Yeah, Luke starts in and let Ellis's backup.
- 56:55Speaker 1: That would be a heck of a conversation that lead
- 56:57Speaker 1: up to Game seven, which is a seven thirty start again,
- 57:00Speaker 1: not quite eight twenty like tonight, but still another later
- 57:03Speaker 1: start on a Monday night, and that's a work night
- 57:05Speaker 1: for a lot of people. So hopefully it'll be worth
- 57:07Speaker 1: you guys staying up before we get out of here,
- 57:09Speaker 1: we're gonna put Jonathan on the spot with our stick
- 57:12Speaker 1: tap of the game, brought to you by butt Ends
- 57:14Speaker 1: hockey stick grips specifically for the top end of the
- 57:15Speaker 1: stick design to replace traditional hockey cloth dape. Check him
- 57:18Speaker 1: out a butt Ends with a z dot com and
- 57:20Speaker 1: use a referral code butt Ends slash discount slash armchair
- 57:23Speaker 1: GM to get ten percent off your first order engineering
- 57:26Speaker 1: for greatness and performance. Butt Ends the number one grip
- 57:28Speaker 1: in hockey. Who's your stick tap tonight for the player
- 57:30Speaker 1: of the game, Jonathan ah.
- 57:32Speaker 4: Man, I'm having such a hard time with this.
- 57:34Speaker 3: I mean, I feel like the obvious pick would be
- 57:36Speaker 3: like doline, But you know what, I'm gonna give it
- 57:39Speaker 3: to Jack Quinn. Two goals and assist plus one on
- 57:44Speaker 3: the night finally breaks through to get on the score sheet,
- 57:48Speaker 3: and not just once but twice, and to do it
- 57:50Speaker 3: on the power play. And that second goal was from
- 57:52Speaker 3: an absolutely disgusting angle too. He shelves that thing from
- 57:56Speaker 3: like basically the red line. I gotta give my stick
- 57:59Speaker 3: tap to Jack Quinn.
- 58:01Speaker 1: Yeah, obviously him breaking through there with his first and
- 58:04Speaker 1: second career playoff goals after fifty five shot attempts through
- 58:08Speaker 1: twelve games. It was definitely big for him, and that
- 58:11Speaker 1: power play goal was the game winning goal. So great
- 58:15Speaker 1: choice there. I'm gonna go with lucan In just because
- 58:18Speaker 1: you know, you come in that spot, Lion's given up
- 58:20Speaker 1: three on four, the bell center's rocking, it's a three
- 58:23Speaker 1: to one game.
- 58:23Speaker 2: Your season's on the line. You know. He comes up
- 58:25Speaker 2: with a few big saves.
- 58:26Speaker 1: I know that one sort of squeaked by him again
- 58:29Speaker 1: and it was just incredible to see. But I think
- 58:33Speaker 1: he really needed a bounce back because he's a guy
- 58:35Speaker 1: that has been heavily criticized, you know, and rightfully so
- 58:38Speaker 1: for what was a really bad performance for him in
- 58:41Speaker 1: Game five. But he bounced back tonight and again this
- 58:44Speaker 1: carousel of the Sabers goaltending of oh, it's Lions net, Nope,
- 58:48Speaker 1: it's upl's net. Nope, it's Lions net. And now we're
- 58:50Speaker 1: on the side where it's upl's net again. I don't
- 58:52Speaker 1: know when we'ere we're going to get to the Colton
- 58:54Speaker 1: Nellis portion of it, but I think, you know, lucan
- 58:57Speaker 1: In with the big seventeen saves, he came in and
- 58:59Speaker 1: shut the door.
- 59:00Speaker 2: You know, he did.
- 59:01Speaker 1: The Canadians didn't didn't score a goal on him tonight,
- 59:04Speaker 1: so I think I'm gonna have to give it to him.
- 59:05Speaker 2: And if I have to go to a skater, you know,
- 59:08Speaker 2: I really think that uh.
- 59:12Speaker 1: Tage Thompson deserves a shoutow because I think he had
- 59:14Speaker 1: a really good bounce back game tonight.
- 59:16Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 59:16Speaker 3: Absolutely, I mean, can't go wrong with either of those picks. Again,
- 59:20Speaker 3: I think it's been the theme of the series and
- 59:22Speaker 3: theme of the playoffs. The Big Dog's gotta eat upl
- 59:25Speaker 3: probably came into the season as the starting guy, and
- 59:29Speaker 3: uh Tage Thompson came in as you know, our our
- 59:32Speaker 3: number one forward, and they both had great games tonight
- 59:34Speaker 3: and that's a big reason by the Sabers live to
- 59:37Speaker 3: fight another day.
- 59:39Speaker 1: And thank you to Trip the Man for his nine
- 59:41Speaker 1: dollars ninety nine cent us, which is a lot more
- 59:43Speaker 1: in Canadian dollars. So thank you Trip for tuning in
- 59:46Speaker 1: UH and being a part of our post game show.
- 59:49Speaker 1: Is always great to have our fan interaction there, and
- 59:52Speaker 1: thank you everybody that tuned in live on the chat.
- 59:53Speaker 1: We're just over midnight now, we're now into UH in
- 59:57Speaker 1: the Sunday on this Victoria day long week end here
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: in Canada for you in the United States, we do
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: have it's a long weekend for us on the Monday,
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: so a lot of the Canadian Sabers. Sabers fans will
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: definitely you know, having an early start on their pregame,
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: I think, but you know, I have to somewhat stay
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: even keel for a long night of postgames.
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: So it's just gonna be fun.
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: Like like as you mentioned, as we kind of wrap
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: up here, Jonathan, it was great having you.
- 1:00:25Speaker 2: It's it's a lot of fun.
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: You know, this is what you dream for as a
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: as a fan and somebody and media members covering the
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: team after what the last fourteen seasons are win loser
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: or they can't be draw, but win or lose on
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: on Monday. You know, I know Sabers fans will be disappointed,
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: but it's it's been a fun ride and if it
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: does come to an end on Monday, the Sabers have
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: a lot of momentum you know, on their side, and
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: this won't be the last that we've seen.
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: These are two fantastic, you know, young teams.
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: They're both so fun to watch and I don't think
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: this is the last time the Sabers and Canadians are
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: going to be facing off in the playoffs.
- 1:00:58Speaker 3: No, I don't think so. I have love, you know,
- 1:01:01Speaker 3: all things aside. I absolutely love this Habs lineup. I
- 1:01:04Speaker 3: think they are going to be a problem for a
- 1:01:06Speaker 3: very long time. I think they are going to be
- 1:01:09Speaker 3: that team that takes hold of the Atlantic Division for
- 1:01:12Speaker 3: a very long time. I don't see the end insight
- 1:01:15Speaker 3: for their rain as one of the top teams in
- 1:01:18Speaker 3: the Atlantic.
- 1:01:18Speaker 4: But Buffalo, They've got more than.
- 1:01:21Speaker 3: Enough talent to continue on with it regardless of what
- 1:01:24Speaker 3: happens in Game seven. And this game just made my
- 1:01:27Speaker 3: Sunday on Southern Ontario's Best Rock ninety seven to seven
- 1:01:31Speaker 3: hits FM a whole lot more fun to go and
- 1:01:33Speaker 3: do tomorrow. So I'm looking forward to that and looking
- 1:01:37Speaker 3: forward to somehow. I guess I gotta find a way
- 1:01:40Speaker 3: to listen to the game and call a race Monday night,
- 1:01:43Speaker 3: weather permitting at Maryville Speedway. Busy end of the weekend,
- 1:01:47Speaker 3: but I am so so ready for Game seven.
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: And unfortunately Carolina continues to sit there and lick their
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: chops and get the good scouting report on both these teams.
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: But that long layoff could hurt them as well, but
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: we're not going to get to it ahead of that.
