- 0:00I went to Mexico last week and I was fishing with the Tricer guys
- 0:05and dude, it was like, that's when I knew I was fully cooked.
- 0:09It was like anytime I would sit down, didn't matter if it was in
- 0:12the truck with huge potholes everywhere, in the boat, friggin
- 0:16slamming waves. I would just be sleeping sitting
- 0:19up like falling over and stuff. And then we got here doing any
- 0:23time we'd hike up to like, you know, different knobs to glass.
- 0:28I would glass for like 15 minutes and then just be
- 0:30freaking sawing logs a couple. 5 minutes.
- 0:35So yeah, I've been so cooked. But we restarted now on the pod,
- 0:40so we have audio. We got Vince, absolute legend of
- 0:45the show. Good looking guy here, Nice guy.
- 0:47I know him possibly better than anybody, but what I want to know
- 0:54about is this deer OK? We filled Brianna in 169 and
- 0:57change Buck with the bow. 169 We'll call him one second.
- 1:01Hunting with the pops. I did watch the video.
- 1:03It's on your YouTube channel, Mesa Outdoors.
- 1:06People can check that out. But tell me the story I never
- 1:09got to hear from straight from the horse's mouth.
- 1:11Yeah, so make a make a Long story short.
- 1:13You know, that day it was was that the day before New Year's
- 1:17Eve went out? Where's the bucks are rutting?
- 1:21We're seeing bucks pretty much all day long.
- 1:23We put between my dad and I, there's probably 3 or 4 stocks
- 1:26and even in that, that morning I put a stock on a buck in that
- 1:29same wash that I end up shooting that buck in and 100 all day
- 1:34chase bucks around all day had some opportunities didn't didn't
- 1:37connect. And at the end we're like, oh,
- 1:39well, let's just go check that spot.
- 1:41You know, we had left maybe 45 minutes left the light and I
- 1:45could just see if any bucks and move back in.
- 1:47And we pulled up just glassing off the quad, just checking out
- 1:51the spot for probably maybe 10/10/20 minutes and I just see
- 1:54this big white butt right below chasing a doe.
- 1:57All I saw was his butt and I was like, OK, that's a that's a good
- 1:59deal. It's gotta be a butt.
- 2:00So he was he. Was and.
- 2:02He was pretty thick, you would say.
- 2:03He was thick. He was packing some cheese.
- 2:05Dumpy. OK, nice.
- 2:07The big dump. Nice.
- 2:08OK, shout out to Cal. Raleigh I love, I love it.
- 2:11Big dumper and I just threw the vinyls up real quick and I saw
- 2:15the rack through the Ocotillos. I just was like big buck, big
- 2:18buck and I took off running with my the bow was already, you
- 2:21know, out of the the case on the quad.
- 2:23So I took off running. Old man's right behind me and
- 2:26like I said, I put a stalk in that wash before so I kind of
- 2:29knew what it looked like on the other side if he were to pop out
- 2:32and it was pretty open or at least a little bit more open.
- 2:36So I get to that spot and I stopped when that little
- 2:39clearing and I just was panning and I just see that rack looking
- 2:42right at me at 60 yards. Dad's behind me ranges him.
- 2:45As soon as I go to draw back, he takes off back and down into
- 2:48that wash comes up the other side.
- 2:51And I figured, OK, he's at least maybe 8090.
- 2:54Sorry, he's getting ready to dial and my dad's like one O 4
- 2:57like I got A10 5HE just drew back and I was little shaky.
- 3:03So I was like, OK, maybe if I go to like my knees or something,
- 3:06like I'll be a little bit more stable.
- 3:08And as soon as I did that, I was rock solid.
- 3:10And the craziest thing was that 60 pin I have or that slider pin
- 3:14is green and my, my luminoc is green as well.
- 3:17So when I shot, I had that pin right where I wanted it.
- 3:20And I just watched that arrow literally hit right where that
- 3:23green pin was. And he probably ran, I don't
- 3:26know, 20 yards, stumbled, got back up, ran another 20-30
- 3:30yards, stumbled. And then we lost him.
- 3:32And we just kind of sat there and waited for a little while.
- 3:34And my dad's like, I see your buck, he's up.
- 3:37I was like, oh, shit. Like that deer still standing.
- 3:40I thought he was cooked, you know?
- 3:42And so that deer ended up going down into the washer, like, OK,
- 3:45we'll back out, come back in the morning.
- 3:47And literally right where that deer last saw him, he was down.
- 3:50There. Oh, no, I think I did hear this
- 3:52story at some point because I remember hearing how you went
- 3:55back and then he what? He didn't end up actually going
- 3:58anywhere. And I was worried because that's
- 4:00at that distance, you know, you're like, did I get enough
- 4:02penetration? Like, did I get deep enough in
- 4:05there to to do some damage? It's a problem I always have,
- 4:08you know. Always, always, yeah, things
- 4:13could relate. That's why I use those Beast
- 4:15products. I got to penetrate D.
- 4:17Luckily you sent me those a little bit before then.
- 4:20You almost got a complete pass through, yeah.
- 4:22It was a pinwheel, right? Good shot.
- 4:24Right through the shoulder and it was on the opposite shoulder
- 4:26sticking out. Nice.
- 4:28So I mean, at that distance, getting that much penetration, I
- 4:30was pretty impressed and that's why I've been using ever since.
- 4:33What a great shot, huh? Far shot.
- 4:36I don't like to shoot that far, but sometimes you sometimes it's
- 4:39what you got. You know, that's what I always
- 4:41say like, you know, bow hunting for me, I love to get close.
- 4:44That's that's like my favorite thing is stalking in super
- 4:47tight, but sometimes the best you could do you stalk and it's
- 4:51like, well, it's 81 and I got no more cover.
- 4:54He knows I'm something's up like I'm cooked.
- 4:56It's either I do the 81 or we'll try again, you know, and if you
- 5:01feel comfortable and the wind's not too bad and whatever and
- 5:04you've been practicing, you know, I that's the thing.
- 5:07It's all about preparation. People get sometimes a little
- 5:10like panties in a bunch about shooting at distance, but really
- 5:14it comes down to not every and not every shooter is the same.
- 5:17Like it's so much comes down to your preparation, your practice,
- 5:20your setup, and then of course, conditions, you know, like if
- 5:24it's flat ground and it's dead out, you know, you shoot far,
- 5:29you know, but if it's forty mile an hour winds on the top of one
- 5:32of these ridges, well, you're lucky to shoot past 30, you know
- 5:35what I mean? Like, so it's always just
- 5:37dependent. But yeah, I was so pumped when I
- 5:40saw the picture of that buck because I know you guys have,
- 5:43you know, been trying the bow hunt for a few years.
- 5:46Yeah, down there for sure. Yeah, it's a tough hunt.
- 5:48It's hard to pull it off on such a dandy.
- 5:51And that was your guys first one with the bow, right?
- 5:53Yep, that's awesome. First buck down there at the
- 5:55bow. Yeah, for the both of us.
- 5:57But shout out to my dad on that one because he was, he was on my
- 6:00ass about getting on the bow, like leading up to that.
- 6:03So like that whole probably month and a half before then him
- 6:06and I were going out and shooting quite a bit.
- 6:08I was shooting by myself quite a bit.
- 6:10And then he just kept it and tell me you need to shoot long
- 6:13range, like 20 or 60 because I'm like the same way.
- 6:15I like, I like to get close like with the bow at least, you know,
- 6:18I mean, yeah, we, it's doable with that is extended ranges,
- 6:21but typically you want to get pretty close to him, you know,
- 6:24if you can. But my dad was like, you need to
- 6:26stretch it out. You need to stretch it out.
- 6:27There's some, you know, cause a lot of that stuff is pretty
- 6:29open. I mean, there's brush, you know,
- 6:31don't get me wrong, but there, there's potential for a lot of
- 6:34long shots. So I shooting a lot of basically
- 6:37maxing myself out to like one O 5.
- 6:39So that's how I knew like, OK, one O 5.
- 6:41That's how I'm capped like no further than that.
- 6:43But, you know, I hear stories of guys shooting gear out to one
- 6:4610120 in Arizona, you know, and you're like, like, I couldn't
- 6:50even imagine that far. Yeah, I mean, like I said, it
- 6:53really like just comes down to how much you've been practicing
- 6:57and also like your shooting skill.
- 6:58Not everyone's the same talent of shooter.
- 7:01But my thing is to like a lot of times at those real far shots,
- 7:06it's like generally you're going to hopefully your misses are
- 7:09going to be more up and down rather than left and right.
- 7:11So even if you miss by a couple of yards, I mean probably just
- 7:15hit under a more over them, you know, because the worst is
- 7:19obviously hitting something like farming and wounding it, you
- 7:23know, with But yeah, I was so pumped that you crush that deer
- 7:26and you know, it was a it was a good year out there.
- 7:31I got that Coos whitetail the IT was 79 inch I think if I
- 7:36remember. So I was pumped on that as my
- 7:38biggest 1 yet. Cool hunt.
- 7:41I mean, ours was a little different because the Coos live
- 7:43up high, you know, But yeah, I ended up shooting them 46 I
- 7:49think it was. So, you know, nice shot, but a
- 7:51Coos deer is, you know, small target.
- 7:53You know, almost like get myself.
- 7:55The ones out here I'm still like, granted we haven't seen
- 7:59any golly whompers yet or anything and nothing more than
- 8:02forks, but these deer are tiny looking.
- 8:07I'm like they put my pin on it. I'm like covers a lot of that.
- 8:15Well, you shot a lot of meal deer, so you know, as soon as
- 8:17you saw your first Coos do that, you shot your like, holy smokes,
- 8:20kind of like this is a they're quarter of the size.
- 8:22Compared to like when you see like what?
- 8:25Because I'd seen regular whitetail and then seeing my
- 8:28first mule deer. And of course, you know this
- 8:31one's not going to put down like a little mule deer.
- 8:34I'll go on any mule day. You don't you want to pass on
- 8:36that mule deer? I'll go.
- 8:37You want to pass? I'll go.
- 8:39I'll go on any mule deer. But here you could let go if
- 8:42you'd like. Or would you like to keep?
- 8:43I don't know. Your hand looks uncomfortable.
- 8:45I. Love you know that I love
- 8:47passing the. Mic you do.
- 8:48I find it. It's very annoying, but but when
- 8:52we walked up to his first mule deer and I imagine like 170,
- 8:57that one probably looked pretty Dang similar then to the size of
- 9:00this one. And I was like, I think I
- 9:04whispered and like under my breath, but I was holding the
- 9:06camera so it caught. I was like, holy shit.
- 9:09It was like the size of a small cow.
- 9:13Like actually a small cow. It was that big.
- 9:16It's not even an exaggeration. Like when you see a fully mature
- 9:21grown mule deer, they're massive.
- 9:24I always say it's like a horse with horns.
- 9:26Those damn, because they're just all barreled stomach, you know,
- 9:30And then they got these big old long legs, you know?
- 9:32Like it didn't even resemble a deer to me when I saw it.
- 9:35Like other than it having antlers, like just the size of
- 9:38its neck, the size of its face, like nothing about it to me
- 9:41resembled what I resembled deer ass.
- 9:45I was like this thing identify as something else, you know, and
- 9:49small elk, I don't know, but they are huge.
- 9:52But out here not as huge, which makes further shots a wee bit
- 9:58trickier to put your pin on. Yeah, yeah.
- 10:01Out here. How do how do you enjoy hunting
- 10:05out here? A Little Mix of everything, spot
- 10:09and stock. We do have quite a few tree
- 10:12stands set up ground blinds and then you can do a little bit of
- 10:17Rd. dogging if you need to. You love.
- 10:18It. I love it.
- 10:20If you're cooked, you've been hunting hard and you're like, I
- 10:22need to put the the lamborffis away for a little bit.
- 10:25You just get in the dodge. You just, you know.
- 10:29Yeah, it's a so we James loves, I won't say we yet.
- 10:34James loves a certain area and it's a lot of little hill
- 10:38hopping and I always crapped on that spot because I'm just like,
- 10:46there's no big deer here. And I think I think the biggest,
- 10:50if not the second biggest fork and horn we've seen so far.
- 10:53We saw it there the other day and it's like, maybe I'll eat
- 10:57some of my words. I don't know, we'll see.
- 10:59And but once you get out there and you're trying to spot and
- 11:02stalk in those little hills, it's so hard because I mean,
- 11:07they're just, they're cruising and it's it's morning, so
- 11:10they're not bedded down anytime soon yet.
- 11:12And so like you're just, you get to hell.
- 11:15We got to the first one and didn't see him.
- 11:19So James sits down to start glassing and I before even cuz I
- 11:23get there after him before I could even sit down.
- 11:26I yeah, sat and I didn't even get any stuff out.
- 11:29And I look up and I see him hopping over the, the hill sat
- 11:32next across the little ditch. I'm like, there they go, James
- 11:36and he's like, all right, pack up.
- 11:38So I had no break, nothing. It was just like, get back up
- 11:41and go. And you're once you get to the
- 11:43bottom of those, sometimes they're not a lot of them.
- 11:47Right now I don't. Know.
- 11:51Oak everywhere. The bushes are thick like the
- 11:53chaparral bushes. Are and James just pushes
- 11:55through them and I'm over there like like kicking the Bush and
- 12:00cannot get my leg to go through it because they're so
- 12:03intertwined together and dead. So like I am trying.
- 12:07I think I told James there's a, there's a scene that'll come out
- 12:10when this video comes out of a previous stock.
- 12:14And I don't know if it was before or after.
- 12:15I don't know at this point now on this trip, but we went
- 12:19through some stuff that was so thick.
- 12:22I got to the end. I was hollering to Jesus.
- 12:25I was like, I think I could have floated and swam across that
- 12:28brush. It was so thick.
- 12:29Well, I could barely push my way through it.
- 12:32And so he's just cruising through the brush and I'm over
- 12:36here. Like, did he go this way?
- 12:37Did he go this way? What's the best route?
- 12:39So like 10 minutes later, I'll get up to the next one to him.
- 12:42This time I actually get to did I get to sit down?
- 12:46I don't know. I think for like a second and I
- 12:50think this time it was long enough for me to just get the
- 12:52tripod out. And James goes, I see him and
- 12:56he's looking through the vines like where he's like, you know,
- 12:59over there's building there before that a couple hails.
- 13:02Mike, I don't know what you're talking about.
- 13:04It's like, all right, let's go. Jesus.
- 13:09So it's just it's non-stop in those little hills, like if
- 13:12they're cruising, you're cruising.
- 13:14And I was tuckered by the end. And of course he's with they're
- 13:18kind of all seem to still be hanging out with other bucks
- 13:21right now. It's a little early.
- 13:23So of course the smaller, I hate smaller bucks when they're when
- 13:27you're with a bigger buck and they're smaller ones that I hate
- 13:29em. I hate em all day long.
- 13:31I'll shoot em, but I hate them. And this one just had us pinned
- 13:36down so far away. And it was you didn't do
- 13:38anything about it. It wasn't settling down.
- 13:41So that didn't pan out ultimately at the end.
- 13:43That was that shot. I was telling you about that.
- 13:48Yeah, you know, things happen, but.
- 13:51Yeah, you've had a bit of a rough go this trip.
- 13:53Should we maybe dive into your rough go?
- 13:55Well, that's one of the rough go it was that one.
- 13:58I'm I'm going to say it was far. It was very far.
- 14:00I won't tell you how far unless James caught it on camera and it
- 14:04gets said in the video, then you can go watch it there.
- 14:07But I will say I was happy with that shot.
- 14:09He was a little quartered away, but it landed right underneath
- 14:14him. It would have been good, but he
- 14:16had stepped a little bit after James had ranged and at that far
- 14:20of a distance with only 51 lbs makes, although anything past 60
- 14:25starts making big differences, you know, per yard.
- 14:29So I was OK with that one. I wasn't as bummed.
- 14:34Then the next one I was more bummed about.
- 14:36I'm going to say, oh, we're a little overbowed right now.
- 14:39We just switched to a brand new bow, brand new strings.
- 14:42So they're a little tight. And what's confusing me is it is
- 14:46the exact same poundage that I had on my last bow.
- 14:51And it feels. It's just 'cause it's different
- 14:54draw cycle, so anytime you switch bows, the draw cycle is
- 14:58going to have like a learning curve to it and although I.
- 15:01Haven't learned it. I haven't learned it.
- 15:03Yeah, I mean, and even though the chorus R and the virtue are
- 15:06quite similar on draw cycle, they may even have the same Cam.
- 15:10It's very similar. It's just going to feel a little
- 15:14bit different, you know. So I would say like a bow can
- 15:17have a very easy draw or a very, very like harsh draw.
- 15:22And either way over time you'll get used to it.
- 15:24That better does not have like a harsh draw.
- 15:27It does not have a harsh draw, but you're just not used to it
- 15:29yet. Diff is all get out.
- 15:31So I'm over here doing back bends and somersaults to get
- 15:34this bow back right now, which is crazy because in the shop I
- 15:38could draw it when we went out to your practice range, I could
- 15:42draw it. I drew it for a ton of shots
- 15:44before I finally had James step in and help me with the last
- 15:47few. And I don't know if now I'm just
- 15:50like scared of it or something, but like, or I'm not putting an
- 15:53effort, but it it's tough. So then we got to opportunity #2
- 16:02we'll call it. And there'd probably been
- 16:05multiple opportunities in between that one and this one,
- 16:07but this one was like a real opportunity.
- 16:10And I jump out of the vehicle 'cause we were pounding a lot of
- 16:17miles in the truck and I love it and I jump out.
- 16:26This one goes smoother like I range apparently a must
- 16:32arranged. He he walked a little away from
- 16:35us, but he was super close to begin with.
- 16:37So I was like, I've been getting used to the fact like I don't
- 16:41need to range the animal if he's standing right next to you or
- 16:44right behind a Bush like like a small 1.
- 16:47You could just range the damn Bush.
- 16:49I thought I ranged the Bush, but this grass is so damn tall out
- 16:52here. I must have just caught enough
- 16:55blades of something that I got 10 yards less than what he was.
- 16:59So I got 40 and James got 50. But he was in the truck filming,
- 17:04so I did not hear him. I mean he.
- 17:09Was Brianna just has no filter out?
- 17:11I mean, you know, whatever is legal, like if the mall is to
- 17:15Step 1 foot off the road. She saw I'm stepping.
- 17:18One I'm step now does it say I mean FOOT does it does it
- 17:22specify the definition of foot like do I just need to get one
- 17:26of my feet off the road more feet or or do I have to step one
- 17:31legal 12 inches off of the road It doesn't I'm stepping off the
- 17:36road though, but nonetheless it. Is such a liability to bring
- 17:39anywhere that would be you are a major liability, you know that.
- 17:44Nah, I'm following the legal law of the land.
- 17:49Anyways, I don't hear him say 50.
- 17:52And you know, the wind out here is it's good you won't hear it
- 17:55in this video because James will tune it out.
- 17:57But it's it's ridiculous. It's ridiculous.
- 18:01I don't hear him say 50. So I shoot, but I probably
- 18:06shouldn't have shot because he started moving.
- 18:09I hit nowhere near him. It was one of those like, just
- 18:16trigger instincts where like you panic because they start moving
- 18:20and so instead of letting go, you just punch the trigger.
- 18:24Yeah, I do that. I did that.
- 18:26And so he trots off, goes down a ravine and back up and then just
- 18:31proceeds to stare at us for like 20 minutes.
- 18:34Just doesn't leave. So that was a nice sporky.
- 18:38Then by nice I mean he was very little, but he was legal.
- 18:43But so he, he lived another day. And then, and then there's
- 18:50opportunity #3 today we've been cruising yesterday in the
- 18:56evening heading home and there's an area we'd seen 2 pretty nice,
- 19:01nice fork and horn bucks in, but way out in some very thick
- 19:05stuff. So like there ain't no getting
- 19:07these things. We attempted to, we made about 5
- 19:10steps and they went bolting and they were like 100.
- 19:14It was 104 yards away to Y range where they last were.
- 19:19And you just see them go bolting and then you hear like the
- 19:22crashing, the breaking. I was like James, you hear that?
- 19:24That's what we just sounded like to them.
- 19:27No wonder we didn't make it in. But so we are around that area
- 19:30again today and on the left side was 2 little fawns and so we're
- 19:37stopped looking at them and I go, where's your Mama?
- 19:44And I turn and look right 'cause there's a little ravine ditch on
- 19:47the right side of the road. I'm like, she's going to come up
- 19:49out of that and cross the road with the babies.
- 19:51She is not what came out. Two forkin horns come up out of
- 19:55the ditch. I'm like I just, I, I froze.
- 19:58I go, James do not move, and I go.
- 20:03To get out. I, I and they were calm.
- 20:07The the bigger one kind of like he walked off, but he's just
- 20:11walking like no care in the world.
- 20:12Didn't look at me, nothing. I'm paralleling and now on the
- 20:16side of the road with the smaller one, it's just not
- 20:21giving a carrot. Stops broadside, gives me time
- 20:24to range. I range it 32 yards, put the
- 20:27range Finder back away. Then it comes time for the draw.
- 20:36I mean it was obnoxious so bad I knocked the arrow off of the the
- 20:40rest. I was like, the reason I knew
- 20:43was because I felt metal on my finger and I looked down and it
- 20:46was the broad head of cutting my finger open.
- 20:49And so me I'm like trying to save it and not have to let down
- 20:53so I don't make as much movement.
- 20:56I'm trying to push it back up. But with this new rest, the the
- 21:01whale tail sits right next to the thing.
- 21:03It doesn't touch it, but like you have no room to bring your
- 21:05arrow up and around. So as I'm shoving, I'm just
- 21:08cutting my finger more because I'm shoving the broad head, not
- 21:11the the arrow. And so I have to let down.
- 21:15And as soon as I let down, he turns and you know, ass away
- 21:18from me or to me walks away. But they walked away so calmly
- 21:23that like James tried grunting at him.
- 21:26They just didn't stop. But they gave no cares, like
- 21:29they weren't alert, they weren't scared.
- 21:32So we watched them and they walked over to this Bush and
- 21:37we're like, well we'll go try again.
- 21:39This time I noticed James brings his bow with.
- 21:42He's soft, tight. He is.
- 21:47And I was like, I don't look buddy, hand me the camera like
- 21:50I'm done. I'm fired.
- 21:52I'm out of. And he's like, no, this is it.
- 21:57Yeah, he's just I'm going to stand right here and you're
- 21:59going to go go finish it. I'm like, OK, all right.
- 22:05So I walk off on my own to go stalk these things now.
- 22:08And James is, I think we stopped.
- 22:10He stopped at 53 yards away from this Bush.
- 22:14And I kept going and it wasn't as loud as yesterday, but it was
- 22:20still loud and it wasn't super windy, so I was amazed.
- 22:24But I got all the way up there and I eventually had gotten on
- 22:27to like a little Deer Trail, so it got a lot quieter.
- 22:31And I think that's what saved me.
- 22:33And I got up there and I was sure that these things would not
- 22:37be anywhere near this Bush by now.
- 22:39The stuff's so tall, those deer could leave and you'd never know
- 22:42it. But Nope, there were his antlers
- 22:46right above the Bush that I was too short to see over.
- 22:49I was like, just give me a little bit of body.
- 22:52If I could see a little bit of body, that means I could shoot
- 22:54through that brush. That's all I need.
- 22:57Nah, couldn't see anything. But Jane's being, you know, 10
- 23:02inches taller than me. 6 foot of course, 6 foot one 'cause I'm 5
- 23:07foot one tall enough that he would have been able to see over
- 23:12that and his bow is faster, pulls more poundeds.
- 23:16He could have shot through and put it down all day long.
- 23:21But no. So I fumble the the racehorse
- 23:25again instead of just standing still while I could see his
- 23:29antlers staring my direction. I'm like, and then I realized
- 23:34that like my side cover was up and I didn't flip it back on my
- 23:38range Finder pouch. So then I'm like having to
- 23:41fumble hands to switch the bow over to flip it open and stick
- 23:44the range Finder away. Hot mess.
- 23:46It was just an absolute disaster.
- 23:49And, and so after I ranged him, he was still staring, but by the
- 23:53time I put it away and looked up, he his antlers were gone.
- 23:56I'm like, OK, he's behind the Bush.
- 23:58So I drew was like, all I was hoping is that he was just going
- 24:00to come out the side of the Bush and I'd be able to shoot at
- 24:03about 25. He was at 22 and he just went
- 24:08straight away. And but he went to another
- 24:11bigger Bush and I was like, OK, James started coming up.
- 24:14I'm like James is just going to get a shot.
- 24:16He's going to be able to shoot a long bomb and just put this
- 24:19thing down and we'll be done here.
- 24:20Like we can have pops tonight at the steakhouse and no, I guess
- 24:25he said he ranged it was 120 and he didn't feel like launching
- 24:28that out of four key. So at.
- 24:30Any at anything I ain't shooting that far.
- 24:32But Brianna Brianna she she leaves rules at home.
- 24:36She's not a big rules gal. Give me give me events here one
- 24:39to 10 review of Brianna's hunting after hearing this story
- 24:43effort. A25I give you that.
- 24:45That's all that matters. You know, I'm out here in these
- 24:48streets. I'm trying.
- 24:51She's a different zip code. No rules apply.
- 24:54She's unbelievable. But Brianna is 100%.
- 24:59If I ever get cancelled, it's going to be because her.
- 25:01There's no question about it. Yeah, I'm.
- 25:04I'm such a rule guy. It's ridiculous.
- 25:06But I'm following. All the rules, yeah, she is
- 25:08actually, I mean technically following all the rules I.
- 25:11Am do you guys just have some wild Wild West rules out here?
- 25:14But. It is the wild, Wild West
- 25:15sometimes, yeah. This is a.
- 25:19You need to learn a filter. Nah, what's the fun in that?
- 25:24It is fun out here though, You know, like you get your own
- 25:28little section of kind of privacy in all of California
- 25:33first, the rest of us peasants out in the public lands.
- 25:39But it's fun that you have a diversity here in what you can
- 25:43do between tree stands or you can spot and stalk Glass Rd.
- 25:48hunt if you want to. She's the.
- 25:51Heck yeah. Yeah, big fan.
- 25:53At this point, it's the only way it's going to get done.
- 25:55Actually I tried twice that still do the job, so I don't
- 25:58know. Probably 80%, maybe more success
- 26:02rates probably done from the road out here, I'm going to say.
- 26:04I'm in Rd. hunting happens in all states, don't matter if it's
- 26:07Utah or Arizona and Nevada, anywhere there's a lot of roads.
- 26:11It's something that exists and doesn't mean it's easy, but you
- 26:14still like there's hard parts of Rd. hunting.
- 26:16I think it's hard. But in in a a sense like is
- 26:21hard, I'll keep them on, OK. It's harder in a way because I
- 26:27think you can have more opportunities.
- 26:30Hold on. You can definitely cover more
- 26:32ground, I think that's why. I want more ground.
- 26:34There's more opportunities when you catch them off the side of
- 26:39the road because there's, you know you're going to see more
- 26:42because you're covering more ground.
- 26:45But when it comes to like the final moments, I don't think
- 26:48that every opportunity you have is as likely to be successful as
- 26:54a spot in stock or a tree stand sit, because they're already
- 26:59alert. Now they're staring right at
- 27:01you. You just kind of have to hope
- 27:03that they're in that sense of alertness that they're still
- 27:05confused because once that's gone, they're gone.
- 27:10And so like probably 60% of the OR more honestly, 80% of the
- 27:17road hunting stocks, you could say like where you actually get
- 27:21out of the vehicle, you do are not successful because they they
- 27:26blow town. But it's fun because it like it
- 27:31kind of gets you on your feet. It gets you to like move quickly
- 27:34in those final seconds, which I struggle at immensely.
- 27:39My stocking skills, fantastic. My closure skills, not so much.
- 27:48Might as well just have Brianna do a solo podcast here today.
- 27:52Do all the. Talk.
- 27:52No, I don't. Well, anyway, Vince said you
- 27:55didn't. We'll talk as much.
- 27:57Yeah, but we have a guest. You got to involve the guest.
- 28:00You know, this is unbelievable. We'll just.
- 28:05Here's what we'll do. I'll crash zoom just on Brianna
- 28:07for most of the time. What is your favorite style of
- 28:12hunting like out of you know, sitting Rd.
- 28:15Hunting, you know, spot and stock What's what's kind of your
- 28:19face? Still hunting?
- 28:21Yeah, still hunting is good, but I'd say like my favorite is
- 28:24probably, I guess you'd consider spot and stock with a bow would
- 28:27probably be. And then like with a rifle, I
- 28:30like to just get somewhere and just sit.
- 28:32Like I'll sit till dark and I like to just say to your spot,
- 28:35yeah, same spot, just sit. A lot of times.
- 28:38I mean those deer don't move till the last 5-10 minutes of
- 28:41light anyways, you know. So if you can just sit, I
- 28:43already have everything all set up and I'll just sit glass as
- 28:46much as I can. Look at any little nook and
- 28:48cranny, any little pockets of trees that you can see through.
- 28:52Just, I mean, especially some of the areas that I like to hunt
- 28:54out here, it's super thick and all you're going to do is catch
- 28:58a window of movement and that's your chance to shoot that deer
- 29:02or whatever you're going after, you know, So I'd say just
- 29:05getting up somewhere high sitting glass and.
- 29:08It is so true. Like that last first or last
- 29:12little bit of light is always it.
- 29:14You know, especially for the more mature animals, wouldn't
- 29:17you say? Kind of tuck up longer unless
- 29:19it's rut time. Yeah.
- 29:21Then that kind of goes out the, but I mean, I've sat and watched
- 29:24bucks, like bigger mature bucks, they'll get up out of their bed
- 29:28or whatever, say they're in like a little Canyon and they'll
- 29:31stand there for 20-30 minutes and not move until like it's
- 29:35completely, almost like you can't see any more things.
- 29:37Wow. And I think, you know, that's
- 29:39why they're so big, right? It's because they're not moving
- 29:41out when someone could see them. No, that's.
- 29:43What we were talks about back in some of that big country, it's
- 29:49like it's so immense, you know, that there's some lunkers back
- 29:53there, but they're rarely seen because there is so much land
- 29:58and topography. I'm like they're, I'm sure in
- 30:02any one of these giant canyons tucked way down in there or way
- 30:06up in there underneath the big thick thing of bushes just
- 30:12chilling. They're hot, they're heavy.
- 30:14You know, they're not these little tiny forkies that can
- 30:18just run for miles. They're carrying a bunch of
- 30:20weight. So like they bed down and bed
- 30:23down for hours and just, they're happy little campers just like
- 30:26that. I'm like, what I'd give to see
- 30:28one of those lunkers just decide to mess up, you know?
- 30:31Well, even like that big fork my dad shot a few years ago, that
- 30:35big heavy boy, I took a shot at him, missed.
- 30:38He takes off running, goes up this hill, makes about halfway
- 30:42and he's gassed, mouth open, tongue hanging out.
- 30:45And he probably went another 50 yards and just bet it in some
- 30:48thick brush and it was like almost cresting over the hill.
- 30:51My dad's like, oh, I think he went over.
- 30:53I was like, he didn't go over, he's in that brush.
- 30:55And sure as shit, you know, we kind of like still wanted our
- 30:58way into it. Like he'd go 50 yards, I'd go
- 31:01100 yards and just keep kind of incrementing our way past each
- 31:04other. And before you know what that
- 31:06books that bug stood up and that's how I shot him with that
- 31:09bug was in that brush. Oh, wow.
- 31:11Yeah. But he was gas going up.
- 31:12Oh yeah. You've seen how big the country
- 31:14is. You're.
- 31:15Huge. And you're carrying all that
- 31:17weight running up them hills. He was done.
- 31:21That is something that was. Like, I don't think I'd like to
- 31:25walk any of those. They're massive.
- 31:28Did you go to that spot I told you last night down South having
- 31:33those two zone? I think so, yeah.
- 31:35Yeah, I think so. Some big stuff in there.
- 31:37Oh, huge, yeah. Huge.
- 31:38It's tough with a bow. Yeah.
- 31:40Right down there, yeah. No, I one thing I like about
- 31:44your guys hunting area is the diversity of the terrain, right?
- 31:51I mean, you can hunt flats, you can hunt thick stuff, you can
- 31:55hunt wide open stuff, the beach, you can hunt the beach, you can
- 31:59hunt oak trees. Like, you know, there's all
- 32:02sorts of different types of terrain, which I think it's
- 32:07pretty cool because if you can learn to hunt every single one
- 32:10of those types of terrain, you know, effectively, that's going
- 32:14to help so much when you go hunt like different new states or new
- 32:17spots or whatever, because you've experienced a lot of
- 32:22different pockets, you know, and that's one thing I think it's
- 32:26really cool about here. But what is your favorite?
- 32:29Like terrain taunt? Like terrain type?
- 32:31Terrain type out here, I'd say like the thick oaks and then
- 32:37probably as you go further South, some of that big open
- 32:39country. Yeah, I do like that stuff.
- 32:43But with a bow, I definitely say like the dunes and stuff, it's
- 32:46just so quiet. It's just you can get, I mean,
- 32:49we've gotten into like 10 yards of pigs just because you can
- 32:53sneak on through that stuff, you know, and you're not making a
- 32:55whole lot of noise. And then if you have good wind
- 32:57coming off that coast, you could jump on them if you want, if
- 33:00you're sneaky. Art pigs bad ass dude I love.
- 33:04Pigs, I love pigs, I love hunting pigs.
- 33:06And then especially if you're trying to get good with the bow,
- 33:08like that's what I've been focusing on a lot this like last
- 33:11year in the tail end of of last year or this year and then tail
- 33:14end of last year was getting better with the bow.
- 33:16And, and I think a lot of it comes from your stocking skills.
- 33:19Oh yeah. So totally doing like here pigs
- 33:22are year round. So you have a lot of opportunity
- 33:25to get better with the bow. And so that's why I've been, I
- 33:28was on, I don't know if you've seen a lot of the videos I was
- 33:30asking with all the pig stuff, but I was.
- 33:32Like man, they must be slammed up there because he's posted
- 33:35nothing but Pig Con I. Was I was probably going out,
- 33:38I'd say every day, if not every other day, just looking for pigs
- 33:42and trying to find spots that, you know, I haven't haunted too
- 33:44much before that had pigs and then every chance I had, if I
- 33:48had a good opportunity to go in the bow, I'd take it, yeah.
- 33:52Tell me about your bow set up. Give me, give me arrows.
- 33:56The kind of the whole breakdown of your bow.
- 33:57Have you changed anything? Else I'm still running the the
- 34:00ventom, the Ventom Pro, running the Easton Axis Arrows 5 OS.
- 34:06No, just the the 5mm. They're still 5mm, but the old
- 34:10man's got the five OS. He I think we should talk about
- 34:13this. Can you switch brands?
- 34:14Like if you're a loyal Hoyt guy forever and then switch over to
- 34:19Matthews, can you do that? I know he did do it, he told.
- 34:22Is that allowed? It's barely.
- 34:23Allowed. That's what I figured, yeah.
- 34:25But I mean. He said he took him a while to
- 34:28get used to the old live, but now he loves it.
- 34:30Now he. Loves it.
- 34:30He's been out slinging them and getting pretty good with that
- 34:33thing and gave it to him. Yeah, he told me he'd been just
- 34:35frigging dropping Dimes at like 120.
- 34:39Heck, he does a lot of but you, you saw the range.
- 34:41So he I mean it's improved a lot.
- 34:43So now they have the big block targets.
- 34:45Too, so I love it the range. Is nice sending long range
- 34:48shots, you don't have to worry too much.
- 34:49I mean, if you miss that block, I mean there's some other
- 34:52problems were the. Hay bales behind.
- 34:54Just hay bales before so and our arrows like 90% of the time
- 34:59they're blasting through the the hay Bale, you know, then you're
- 35:02hitting the wood the. Blocks are nice.
- 35:04Yeah. Oh boy.
- 35:05Let me tell you, those blocks are nice.
- 35:07I'm excited tomorrow we you know, you text me and I said
- 35:11there's a few tasks I would like to get done while we're here.
- 35:15Despite being cooked, I want to get a few tasks done.
- 35:18I want to get Brianna a deer, which is proven to be the most
- 35:21difficult task. I want to do that one.
- 35:24I want to that was a questionable one.
- 35:27Do a pod with Ryan, which we got that done.
- 35:30I want to do a pod with you. We're getting that done even
- 35:33though Brianna basically Brianna Pod, but we got that done talk.
- 35:38About all my it's, you know, not my problem that I've and it's
- 35:42kind of my problem that, you know, my dear stories just
- 35:46happened to there be a lot of them.
- 35:47Yeah, it's true. I told her at least she's
- 35:50getting her money's worth, you know?
- 35:52And then I said I wanted to go to the steakhouse, which I'm
- 35:55very excited about. We, we've been talking about it
- 35:57all day. So excited.
- 35:59Haven't been since the first year we've come.
- 36:01This is our fourth year, so it's been a while.
- 36:03The fourth year. It's only the 3rd.
- 36:04I know it's fourth year, 4th year.
- 36:08Well, think about it. I shot a buck my first year.
- 36:10I shot a buck my second year. I did not shoot one the third
- 36:13year and then this year, so I was fourth year, but I, I can't
- 36:17wait to go to that steakhouse. And that was task number three
- 36:20of four. And then the last task archery
- 36:23range baby. And we got how many guys 5.
- 36:26Five so far, and there's unless you wanted some more to come.
- 36:28And there's 20. Targets Correct 20 targets.
- 36:30So I think if we have 5 that's actually perfect.
- 36:34Is that total? Yeah, that including me and
- 36:36Brianna. Yeah, so it'll be us or you 2
- 36:38and then myself, my dad and Ryan.
- 36:40OK, so here's here's what I'm thinking. 20 targets, right?
- 36:44I think we do my favorite game right now, the elimination game,
- 36:48right? So basically you shoot 4
- 36:50targets, add up the scores, lowest person booted out, then
- 36:55you move on the scores go back to 0 next four lowest booted and
- 37:01then eventually you have a champion on the on the last
- 37:04target it's the Bennett. Oh, it's the best the playoffs.
- 37:07I usually playoffs actually that usually every time I've gone out
- 37:10first. Hey, I probably might beat you
- 37:12on this one. Actually, it might be 5 target.
- 37:14Actually, no, it'll be 5 targets.
- 37:16If we have five of us, I think it'll be 5 targets and then
- 37:19someone will eliminate. That's my favorite right now.
- 37:21So much fun. So I'm thinking maybe we do
- 37:24that. So stay tuned.
- 37:26Stay. Tuned is that is that the last
- 37:28minute you just put out was that same way yes, I think I just I
- 37:32watched that last night oh it's. The best, yeah, that format's
- 37:35the best, especially for like 20 targets.
- 37:38It's a lot of people when playing just because.
- 37:40Oh. You get worked up, dude.
- 37:42When you feel like you're on the bubble.
- 37:43You. You could be hanging in there
- 37:46like Joey, you know, is hanging in there.
- 37:48It's actually shooting really good.
- 37:49And then he just had a span of targets.
- 37:51He did absolutely ass OB because you have a few and he got kicked
- 37:54out. He there's one is that the one
- 37:57where he shoots over the ram or whatever?
- 37:59He said just he this throws his handler and the the temper
- 38:04tantrum did not stop there. Like all the way from there to
- 38:07the next target. He was yelling that he's done
- 38:10shooting today. He was already out, but like you
- 38:12could just now just shoot for fun.
- 38:14Like no, I'm done shooting. Like he was pissed.
- 38:18And so that's how the game works though.
- 38:20Like it is what it is. And my score, ultimately, I go
- 38:24out first, but I think I had like the third highest score
- 38:28overall on the course. So it's like if you just start
- 38:33off ass like you're out, doesn't matter what you end with.
- 38:37You're just between a hinge and a thumb release.
- 38:39So one time. So we shot a Pennsylvania attack
- 38:44with them. I wanna say he shot 5 releases
- 38:49over 4 days. No, Joe is a, he's a legend
- 38:54dude. He shot like two or three
- 38:56different thumbs, couple of engines.
- 38:58I'll have to bring that release that I just picked up, I think
- 39:02middle of last year. Have you ever seen that it's
- 39:04like the TJ scat release? No, it's a hydraulic.
- 39:07So it's, I don't want to say it's a tension, but it's a
- 39:11timing based. So as soon as you let go of the
- 39:13thumb, the hydraulic and it starts closing and then it opens
- 39:16up. So then it releases it.
- 39:19I never tried it, do you like it?
- 39:21I use it for just basically or you say like a target panic,
- 39:26like getting rid of that, just making sure to hold the pin on
- 39:28there and then it just goes off. All you do is let go of the
- 39:30trigger and then it. I guess it's almost like a
- 39:33dudgeon really does. It go off the same is the
- 39:35timing. The screen, yeah.
- 39:37So you can bounce it in between anywhere from like 1 to 2
- 39:41seconds or all the way to like 8 seconds.
- 39:43So as soon as you let it go, 8 seconds and then it goes off.
- 39:47Dang, I'd never Or something like.
- 39:49That I'll bring it. I'll bring it tomorrow and you
- 39:50could check it out all. Right, I'm down to try it, so
- 39:52yeah. It breaks like a surprise shock.
- 39:55Exactly. Because all you're doing is just
- 39:57holding it back and waiting for it to release.
- 40:00So your whole objective is just hold that paint on there.
- 40:03When it goes off, it goes off. How has your?
- 40:06Journey as a content creator been going tell me how's how's
- 40:10have you been having fun? Yeah, I, I enjoy it.
- 40:12You know, meet a lot of cool people, talk to a lot of cool
- 40:15people. I mean, the power of social
- 40:18media is pretty insane. You know, all the guys you get
- 40:20to talk to and gals and whatnot. But channels grown.
- 40:24I've been having a pretty good couple months, especially as we
- 40:26roll into season, you know, pumping out videos or at least
- 40:29more long form stuff. But I think the last time I was
- 40:33on with you that last year, early last year.
- 40:36Yeah, at the house. I think I was at like 1500 Subs
- 40:40and now I'm like 33 somewhere in there.
- 40:42Yeah, that's that's great growth.
- 40:45That's great growth. I love to hear.
- 40:47Got to keep the train going. That's right.
- 40:49That's right. Yeah, It's it's it's fun.
- 40:51And, you know, I like that your guys kind of crew up here.
- 40:56You got you, you know, making content, Ryan doing his podcast
- 41:01and then the other dude, I don't know his name.
- 41:03I think he does the show as well.
- 41:05Hunter. Yeah, that's cool.
- 41:06Yeah. Just kind of a few of you doing
- 41:08like different stuff. I think that's awesome.
- 41:10The thing is there's never like, there's never too much content,
- 41:16you know what I mean? Like people can choose to watch
- 41:18or not watch something. So like, it doesn't matter if
- 41:21there's more or like. So I always think it's cool when
- 41:24people do something, even if it just starts as like a side thing
- 41:28or a passion project, you never know what it'll become.
- 41:30And as long as you're having fun and a good time, send it.
- 41:34I think that's why it's cool. You all have like a conglomerate
- 41:37of, of guys doing different stuff.
- 41:39I I think that's really neat, you know, cuz how long?
- 41:43When did you start the channel? I want to say 20 21/12/22 maybe
- 41:50there. So a few 3-4 years, yeah, it's a
- 41:52good run, dude. It's a great run.
- 41:54You've had some good videos. I watched the one where you shot
- 41:57that buck in. I don't know what area G
- 42:01something California. It's my late season deer hunt.
- 42:04Yeah, and you squeeze off the shot and then there's no round.
- 42:07That was, you know. There's only like one person
- 42:09commented on that. They're like the most impressive
- 42:12thing about that whole video was the non flinch when you pulled
- 42:15the trigger and it didn't go off.
- 42:16I was like, I'm so glad at least somebody noticed.
- 42:18How are you? I thought the same thing.
- 42:20I was like, what the hell, this thing's not going off.
- 42:22And I just remember because it was my dad's rifle and we had
- 42:25his set up for that distance and he handed me the rifle once we
- 42:30got down there and I thought he already had one in there and he
- 42:34didn't put one in there yet. So when I went to squeeze it, it
- 42:36didn't go off because there's no round in the chamber and I was
- 42:40like, it's impressive, yeah. You did regroup.
- 42:42Nicely. And he's like, well, that's the
- 42:45biggest thing too, Especially when you're in those high, you
- 42:47know, pressure, high intensity situations.
- 42:51You got to keep it together. Yeah, Otherwise shit's gonna go
- 42:54sideways real quick. You got to keep it together, You
- 42:56hear that? Yeah, I don't.
- 42:58I don't do that too well. Some ice in the veins.
- 43:00Yeah, James and I, we get a little testy.
- 43:04I don't know about us, but. I believe if if we went back to
- 43:10January 2025 Javelina Hunt Arizona and we put up an
- 43:17unedited version of all the background commentation being
- 43:22had while Ted and I are attempting to get Javelina.
- 43:25Let me tell you what happened. So we're in this group of
- 43:28Javelina, right? And I'm like, I'll just, you
- 43:31know, we'll let Brianna shoot first, obviously.
- 43:34So, well, we get in here and stalk in.
- 43:40There's a whole group of Avelina right off to our right.
- 43:42And then they start to filter in front of us, right in front of
- 43:46us, right? And I'm watching 1 go by, two go
- 43:50by and she's not doing anything. She just.
- 43:52And then before you know it, the whole group pretty much gone.
- 43:56So then this last little trickler comes through.
- 43:58She draws, farms it right off a branch right in front of us, and
- 44:02you hear me go? Oh jeez.
- 44:05Oh well, you know I'm blowing a gasket behind the camera.
- 44:07So then we regroup, we get her on another one and is she
- 44:12looking at this, that these like Javelina coming from the right
- 44:15through this little window and I'm filming from like 1010 yards
- 44:19back and I can, I'm like there's one right to the left, like just
- 44:23look slightly to the left. And you know, I mean this one
- 44:26was standing there for 2 minutes like a 3D target, bro.
- 44:29And she just would not look slightly left to see it.
- 44:33Finally she gets a shot at these other two she's been looking at,
- 44:36right. And my dad just waiting in the
- 44:39wings. Right.
- 44:39He ready to go. He's already ready.
- 44:41Oh, he ready, right. So Brianna shoot, she hits this
- 44:45one. It goes down.
- 44:46My dad and I do have this on the he goes and like runs a few
- 44:50steps yard sales over a branch, right, Just like stumbles over
- 44:55this branch and I'm like, jeez, look, the roof is still standing
- 44:59there. This summit didn't even move,
- 45:01bro. It's still standing there like a
- 45:033D target. I'm like 10.
- 45:05There's one right there, and there was one like right in
- 45:08front of it. Mine finishes its relations and
- 45:13I put it down. So he went out peacefully, but
- 45:16the other one just never left. And Ted was watching this whole
- 45:20thing take place, and I think he just was preparing.
- 45:24So he had eyeballed what he was going to go for, and that's
- 45:27where he went. But it turns out he couldn't
- 45:30shoot from the direction he was trying to go.
- 45:31So he comes running back and James is like, what are you
- 45:35doing? He used some lesser kind words.
- 45:38But basically at one point in the recording he goes, I'm
- 45:40hunting with a bunch of idiots. I was fired up and then I
- 45:47proceeded and then I proceeded to.
- 45:50I hit one a little bit low and I ended up running through the
- 45:53desert for like a mile to get it.
- 45:56I'm literally sprinting bro, like it was crazy.
- 45:59Halloween hunting is undefeated. Have you done it yet?
- 46:03What do they call them? The.
- 46:05God, no, no, God's gift to. Both.
- 46:06Oh, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 46:07Have you done it yet? I haven't.
- 46:09I missed the the window because it's usually like the second
- 46:13week of October and I thought it was later.
- 46:17And so I go to check. I'm like, OK, I need to come and
- 46:20tell my dad. We need to at least try and
- 46:21shoot 1, you know, colored pack grapes.
- 46:23Just, you know, it's fun, right? Yeah, it's pretty, pretty good
- 46:27opportunity to hunt with the boat as well.
- 46:30Missed the dead deadline. What are you going to do with
- 46:32this? I'm going to try it this year.
- 46:33This year. I actually had it marked on my
- 46:34phone. This is it.
- 46:36Yeah, a week before. So I'm like, OK, I need to do
- 46:40this, get it done. And that way we can because we
- 46:43see them all the time and it's they're everywhere, I feel like.
- 46:46You see a lot of, see a lot of that's good.
- 46:48That means you're glassing well, so that's what that means.
- 46:51And it's like, you see one guy, what the hell is that little
- 46:53thing over there? And do I say go to the ground?
- 46:55And it's like, OK, there's one, OK, there's 234.
- 46:59And you just start picking them out, dude.
- 47:01These things just sink when you come up out of the air.
- 47:03They do, yeah. They're like like a gnome.
- 47:05Crazy. And when you like, stalk into
- 47:07them, especially, like, it's just like pigs, but like pigs on
- 47:10steroids, Yeah, like when you stalk in and the wind is good
- 47:13and you can get in quiet and right in there with them.
- 47:16I mean, they're like, I say, like pigs on steroids because
- 47:20like, they're constantly grab assing, like they're fighting
- 47:23with each other non-stop, like they're hoofing at each other.
- 47:27And like one will go to eat the same prickly pear that the other
- 47:30one's eating and it'll get mad at it and then it'll go running
- 47:33around. Yeah, it's just like, so then
- 47:36you get all amped up because like they're all amped up.
- 47:38And so like now you're freaking out.
- 47:41And and then like once one just gets an idea that you're there,
- 47:45but they don't leave. So like they'll circle around
- 47:48you like freaking a pack of wolves, but blind wolves that
- 47:53can't really do much and and try to sniff you out.
- 47:56And they're just like. Can you call?
- 47:58You can call them in too. Oh yeah, you hit a.
- 48:00Is it a predator? Call.
- 48:01It's like a varmint call, yeah. I've seen guys do that.
- 48:03I'm like. Yeah, you hit that squeal.
- 48:06And sometimes and they just run in.
- 48:07Sometimes, yeah, sometimes you gotta be tough.
- 48:10With the blow, you have that thing just barreling in on you.
- 48:12You're just like. They do barrel in too.
- 48:15Oh my goodness, those things run like a bowling ball.
- 48:18As far as finding the one that's sitting still is like half the
- 48:21time the hard part. I think, yeah, I think you'll
- 48:24very much enjoy. Pretty bad, yeah.
- 48:27And it's a what is it? Just one big.
- 48:28Glance. Yeah, they back, Yeah, they
- 48:30smoke a little bit like a skunk, but like a little different.
- 48:32But it almost got blasted by a skunk right in the kisser on
- 48:35this trip. Yeah, 5 feet away and he is
- 48:38ready to go tail up. I was like.
- 48:41Skirt. Are you seeing a lot of them
- 48:42right now? We always saw one skunk.
- 48:44Yeah, like this time of year it's like sometime during deer
- 48:46season, I feel like I see a lot more skunks than normal.
- 48:49I don't know if it's like they're breeding lot of coyotes.
- 48:52There's a shit ton of coyotes. I tried to.
- 48:54I tried. That my did you see my post?
- 48:56No, with my my buck that I just shot.
- 48:58No. Oh, yes, yes.
- 48:59I didn't see it. Yeah, sorry.
- 49:00Yeah, it was crazy. Insane.
- 49:02That was maybe 8 hours gone. Gone.
- 49:05And like they didn't leave anything.
- 49:08It was nothing but the head. Now that's crazy.
- 49:12That's crazy. But I was so bummed out.
- 49:15Yeah, that's a bummer cuz the meat's so good.
- 49:18The meat that butcher the deer out here eats so well.
- 49:22Do you still use that same butcher or are they still?
- 49:25Yep, just dropped Anthonys buck off.
- 49:28We have run out of that meat probably a little while ago now,
- 49:33but we sparingly used it because I loved it.
- 49:38So I have never, and I don't think we'll ever find another
- 49:43butcher as good as him. It's nice because he's like,
- 49:46I've been back there when they're prepping it all up and
- 49:48they're cutting the jalapeno. You can tell, yeah.
- 49:51It's all fresh, the cubes of cheese.
- 49:54It's like. The meat is amazing.
- 49:56It is very expensive, but it's very good.
- 49:59Very, very good. I mean you're literally going to
- 50:01pay probably double like a normal butcher, but I think it's
- 50:05worth it. Almost like it's really good.
- 50:07Butchers have gone up though, like by us, I've he's probably
- 50:10pretty Dang comparable now and like, no, no.
- 50:14No. Didn't they get boned out
- 50:17though? Or was it not boned out?
- 50:19Quartered. Quartered So you didn't bone it
- 50:21out. I think that's that's probably
- 50:22where cuz usually I'll take cuz off these deer you get 3040 lbs
- 50:27of. You bring boned out, boned out.
- 50:29I'll do that. This.
- 50:30Time it's usually around 150 to 180 bucks somewhere in there.
- 50:34With how much jalapeno cheddar whatever that I had like 40 lbs
- 50:38or something? So you probably did it all as.
- 50:41That was it was cuz ours was double.
- 50:42It was 300, but it was. No, it was like two 250
- 50:46something. Yeah.
- 50:46So, yeah, yeah, that's about it. Cuz I think boning out it's like
- 50:50maybe a dollar, $52 a pound was for him to do.
- 50:53It yeah, so maybe that's why I don't I don't know.
- 50:56But yeah, anyway, it was worth it.
- 50:57It was really good side of the road.
- 51:01But anyway, with that being said, kind of a roller coaster
- 51:04of a pod. I did thoroughly enjoy it.
