Transcript
- 0:07Speaker 1: This podcast.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Welcome to Meet Eater Trivia, the only game show where
- 0:12Speaker 2: conservation always wins. I'm your host, Spencer new Arth and
- 0:16Speaker 2: today we're joined by Jannis cal Brody, Randall, Seth Hanse
- 0:20Speaker 2: Corey and Nate. This is a ten round quiz show
- 0:23Speaker 2: with questions from Meat Eater's four verticals which are hunting, fishing,
- 0:26Speaker 2: conservation and cooking. And there is a prize. Meat Eater
- 0:29Speaker 2: will donate five hundred dollars to the conservation organization of
- 0:33Speaker 2: the winners. Choosing and for the stat of the week.
- 0:35Speaker 2: This week, we're looking at the performance of Phil's episode
- 0:38Speaker 2: of Not Meat Eater Trivia. If you'll recall, Phil did
- 0:42Speaker 2: Cinema Trivia two weeks ago, and the audience has spoken.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Phil's episode got thirty two percent more views on YouTube
- 0:50Speaker 2: than the average episode of trivia. Yeah, give him some claps.
- 0:54Speaker 2: There we go by those numbers. I think we can
- 0:58Speaker 2: officially declare Phil the best guest host and put me
- 1:01Speaker 2: on the hot seat.
- 1:03Speaker 3: Did Bill also do his own jingles for his own episode?
- 1:08Speaker 2: I don't think he had any different intro.
- 1:11Speaker 4: Yeah, Game of Thrones theme.
- 1:13Speaker 1: It was a whole experience.
- 1:14Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:15Speaker 5: I think it's interesting that you Spencer Newheart, the host
- 1:18Speaker 5: are just immediately assuming that.
- 1:20Speaker 4: It's just the host on the episode.
- 1:22Speaker 5: Obviously, people just tune in for the host, so it's
- 1:27Speaker 5: all Phil.
- 1:28Speaker 3: There's other people in the room.
- 1:29Speaker 6: But well, there's there's some I think there's some caveats
- 1:32Speaker 6: that come with that. One is that I had I
- 1:33Speaker 6: had a handful of visual questions, so I think some
- 1:35Speaker 6: of those viewers probably came over to the podcast.
- 1:37Speaker 4: Possibly.
- 1:38Speaker 6: But but also, uh, neither of us hold a candle
- 1:42Speaker 6: to Shelby, so I think she's the one.
- 1:43Speaker 2: That is the Yeah, that one's like doubled our regular page.
- 1:47Speaker 4: Call's coming from inside the house.
- 1:49Speaker 2: There's but but Phil needs to do more trivia. The
- 1:53Speaker 2: audience has told us maybe next time, Phil, we can
- 1:56Speaker 2: do some you know, uh, media related trivia. And it
- 1:59Speaker 2: has just like one thread connected to the Meat Eater universe.
- 2:03Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, no, I'd love to do it again.
- 2:05Speaker 7: So I'll tell him Stale how to do his job
- 2:07Speaker 7: now Spencer.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Telling him how to do my job? Yeah, yeah, do we.
- 2:12Speaker 4: See a fu Yeah.
- 2:13Speaker 3: MTV used to be music television videos and then it
- 2:19Speaker 3: transformed into what it is now. I mean Meat Eater
- 2:23Speaker 3: in ten years, five years.
- 2:25Speaker 1: We could just have our own Jersey shore.
- 2:27Speaker 4: It could be medium.
- 2:28Speaker 2: Well, Phil, what did you name it? You said it
- 2:30Speaker 2: was when you took over the company.
- 2:32Speaker 4: What was going called game beater? Which you know use
- 2:38Speaker 4: a couple more passes.
- 2:39Speaker 2: Here's our Infrequently Asked Question segment. If you have a
- 2:42Speaker 2: trivia related question for our crew, send it to Trivia
- 2:46Speaker 2: at the medieater dot com with the subject line I
- 2:48Speaker 2: F a Q. Tate Green says, if we keep sending
- 2:51Speaker 2: the same question, doesn't have better odds of getting picked,
- 2:54Speaker 2: and he sent me that question three times on December twelve, thirteen,
- 2:58Speaker 2: and sixteen. Well, Tata got me to read your I
- 3:02Speaker 2: F a Q, so in this case it helped. Normally,
- 3:04Speaker 2: I'm a few months behind in the inbox. So if
- 3:06Speaker 2: you send me a question in January and you don't
- 3:08Speaker 2: hear it by like, may send it again if you
- 3:12Speaker 2: think it's a really good question and I made a
- 3:14Speaker 2: mistake and it should be in the show. Uh, just
- 3:16Speaker 2: wait a few months and then and then send me
- 3:18Speaker 2: that question again. Your best way to get picked, though,
- 3:21Speaker 2: just send me a phenomenal question that's your that's your
- 3:23Speaker 2: best out at getting the show. And if it's a
- 3:25Speaker 2: phenomenal question and you're convinced that it should be on
- 3:28Speaker 2: Meat Eater Trivia, then wait, you know, a quarter, and
- 3:32Speaker 2: then send it to me again and uh, and we'll
- 3:34Speaker 2: see what happens.
- 3:34Speaker 8: Having spent some time in the inbox, I think another
- 3:37Speaker 8: piece of advice is, UH, include the answer to your question.
- 3:41Speaker 2: That's that's whenever I'm reviewing what in the inbox, guest
- 3:46Speaker 2: toasting you. When you guest host, you get you get
- 3:48Speaker 2: access to the inbox. It's true, but there's I smell
- 3:52Speaker 2: a rat.
- 3:52Speaker 8: There's a handful of I mean, it's not uncommon to
- 3:55Speaker 8: see if someone sends in a question and like the
- 3:58Speaker 8: subject line is the question, and then there's no answer,
- 4:01Speaker 8: and it's unclear whether they want you to include that
- 4:03Speaker 8: in the game or provide them with something that's been
- 4:07Speaker 8: bugging them that they don't know.
- 4:09Speaker 2: Some people will ask who if it helps to send
- 4:11Speaker 2: flavor text, and I would say thirty percent of our
- 4:13Speaker 2: people who write in will send their flavor text.
- 4:16Speaker 3: I would appreciate the flavor text.
- 4:18Speaker 2: It helps in that it may inspire a different question.
- 4:22Speaker 2: So the question you sent may not like work for
- 4:25Speaker 2: me to to trivia, but your flavor text, a paragraph
- 4:27Speaker 2: of text can have something in there that I can
- 4:31Speaker 2: mine to use on the show. So flavor text does
- 4:34Speaker 2: help you, but it's not necessary.
- 4:36Speaker 3: Spencer, I almost went casual Camo this morning, and so
- 4:40Speaker 3: it's coincidence and cold outside then yeah, but what does
- 4:44Speaker 3: that have to do with wearing camof a lot of
- 4:46Speaker 3: my warmest gear.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Like any good midwesterner happens to be in cameo print,
- 4:52Speaker 2: got it? Yeah. On a previous episode of Trivia, we
- 4:55Speaker 2: had a question about the auto hooks setting ice fishing
- 4:58Speaker 2: device within a literative name that's been banned in Minnesota.
- 5:02Speaker 2: The correct answer was jaw jacker, but Bryce Jigglinsky wrote
- 5:07Speaker 2: in to say that there's another piece of gear that
- 5:09Speaker 2: would work for the correct answer, the jigs. It's even
- 5:17Speaker 2: more Midwestern than that. Bryce said that he is the
- 5:20Speaker 2: fishing teacher at a school in Wisconsin.
- 5:24Speaker 7: What man that should He needs to let me know
- 5:27Speaker 7: when he's going to retire.
- 5:30Speaker 3: Jacket.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Let me tell you what Bryce had to say. The
- 5:33Speaker 2: Finnicky fooler will also hook for you, has an alliterative
- 5:37Speaker 2: name and is banned in Minnesota. So the Bryce is right.
- 5:41Speaker 2: And if you said finnick like him, then you also
- 5:45Speaker 2: got that one correct. So it could be jaw jacker
- 5:48Speaker 2: or finnicky fooler.
- 5:50Speaker 8: I saw a jaw jacker at Murdox the other day. Yeah,
- 5:53Speaker 8: it reminded me of my defeat in that episode.
- 5:57Speaker 2: What what was your answer?
- 5:58Speaker 5: Seth is the only guy I know who owns one?
- 6:00Speaker 1: I got one.
- 6:00Speaker 4: I got a couple.
- 6:01Speaker 2: You boys ever use them all the time and love them? Okay?
- 6:05Speaker 7: Yeah, when you can drill a shipload of holes in
- 6:07Speaker 7: a state like Wyoming, there's no reason not to have one.
- 6:10Speaker 2: You'd reach for that instead of just a standard tip up,
- 6:13Speaker 2: though every time depends what you're doing, Okay.
- 6:17Speaker 7: Like tip up like you know, like canyon berry were
- 6:20Speaker 7: fishing and forty feet of water too are kind of
- 6:22Speaker 7: a pain, but I use them both Right now.
- 6:25Speaker 2: The Shelby Index for today is a five, so I'm
- 6:29Speaker 2: putting putting us on perfect score alert. With that, we're
- 6:32Speaker 2: onto the game of trivia, play the Dropville. Look, I
- 6:39Speaker 2: need to know what I stand and wind everything? How's
- 6:43Speaker 2: that you just tend to win everything?
- 6:52Speaker 4: Game?
- 6:52Speaker 2: On Suckers, Question one, the topic is woodsmanship, and this
- 6:56Speaker 2: will be multiple choice. Which of these states does not
- 7:00Speaker 2: have a fourteen er? No? Is it? Washington? Colorado? California?
- 7:07Speaker 2: Or Idaho.
- 7:09Speaker 7: Why do I just get the markers that are out
- 7:12Speaker 7: of juice?
- 7:13Speaker 2: All right? Throw that one by the door, and that
- 7:15Speaker 2: one is going to leave this room. It's gonna go
- 7:17Speaker 2: right in the garbage. Oh no, no, no, not that one.
- 7:20Speaker 2: Oh okay, and Randall's gonna find some new markers.
- 7:23Speaker 7: I'm all tangled that blue one you got in your
- 7:25Speaker 7: hand there.
- 7:26Speaker 2: Randall again? Question one? The topic is woodsmanship. Which of
- 7:29Speaker 2: these states does not have a fourteen? Or three of
- 7:33Speaker 2: them have a fourteen? Or one of them did not?
- 7:36Speaker 2: Is it Washington, Colorado, California or Idaho?
- 7:42Speaker 7: Rocky Mountain high?
- 7:44Speaker 2: Okay, Randall the quickest to answer, do you know this one?
- 7:50Speaker 3: Everyone else said that Roady, I could.
- 7:51Speaker 9: Tell you the high points in each of these states.
- 7:54Speaker 2: And why do you know that?
- 7:56Speaker 9: Because I love mountains?
- 7:59Speaker 2: Just to be good at trivia? Again, Washington Point, Colorado, California,
- 8:04Speaker 2: or Idaho? Which of those states does not have a
- 8:08Speaker 2: fourteen er? Is everybody ready?
- 8:13Speaker 1: Colorado? I'm not sure?
- 8:15Speaker 2: Oh happened? I take? I take you mean you're not
- 8:20Speaker 2: sure what the high point is?
- 8:22Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 8:23Speaker 2: Is everybody ready? Go ahead and reveal your answers? We
- 8:27Speaker 2: have cal saying Idah Giannis says Washington, Seth Idaho, Randall Idaho, Corey, Idaho,
- 8:36Speaker 2: Hansei Washington, Nate, California, Brody Idaho. The correct answer is Idaho.
- 8:47Speaker 2: About half of the room got that one right. Fourteen
- 8:50Speaker 2: Heres are mountains with an elevation over fourteen thousand feet.
- 8:53Speaker 2: There are ninety six in America, which are all found
- 8:57Speaker 2: in Alaska, Colorado, Washington, and californi Ornia. The tallest mountain
- 9:01Speaker 2: in Idaho is bore A Peak, which has an elevation
- 9:05Speaker 2: of thirteen Yeah, twelve thousand, six hundred and sixty two.
- 9:10Speaker 2: So Idaho does not have a fourteener. I was a
- 9:13Speaker 2: little nervous about the Tetons. How close are the Tetans?
- 9:16Speaker 2: So I locked up. The tallest peak in Wyoming is
- 9:19Speaker 2: only about twenty feet shy fourteen.
- 9:22Speaker 7: But that's not the Titan st wherever.
- 9:26Speaker 2: I don't remember what it was. But I didn't feel
- 9:28Speaker 2: good about making Idaho a choice when it was only
- 9:30Speaker 2: twenty feet away from being a fourteen er, so I
- 9:33Speaker 2: went with Ira.
- 9:33Speaker 5: And Montana's not a fourteen or state either. It's only
- 9:37Speaker 5: fourteen something granted twelve grant I think is it?
- 9:42Speaker 2: Question two? The topic is conservation This next great question
- 9:45Speaker 2: is via Justin Mathiason. Also known as a controlled burn.
- 9:49Speaker 2: The US Forest Service defines this as quote a planned
- 9:53Speaker 2: fire used to meet management objectives. Also known as a
- 10:03Speaker 2: controlled burn. The US Forest Service defines this as quote
- 10:08Speaker 2: a planned fire used to meet management objectives.
- 10:16Speaker 3: Sur in house Forrester, had it, seth If I'm reading
- 10:20Speaker 3: the question right, I think it's also known as a
- 10:24Speaker 3: control burn.
- 10:25Speaker 2: The US Forest Service defines this as a planned fire
- 10:29Speaker 2: used to meet management objectives. About half of the room
- 10:33Speaker 2: has come up with their answer, bro, do you have
- 10:36Speaker 2: this one right? Oof?
- 10:38Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 10:39Speaker 7: I mean, I know I've heard this term used before,
- 10:43Speaker 7: but I don't know if it's what you're looking for.
- 10:44Speaker 2: Okay, this is question too.
- 10:49Speaker 3: Did you come up with this question?
- 10:51Speaker 2: This was via Justin Mathison.
- 10:56Speaker 3: You know you got a good one.
- 10:57Speaker 7: It gets real quiet responsor.
- 11:06Speaker 2: We still have some blank whiteboards.
- 11:08Speaker 7: I think for a service expert seth Over there got
- 11:12Speaker 7: it right away.
- 11:17Speaker 4: We worked for employed by that, not for service.
- 11:20Speaker 1: Have you done well?
- 11:21Speaker 7: We were on a fire crew, correct, Yeah, in the
- 11:25Speaker 7: private sector. You guys were contractors for for the Forest Service.
- 11:33Speaker 2: Again, also known as a controlled burn, The U S
- 11:36Speaker 2: Forest Service defines this as a planned fire used to
- 11:40Speaker 2: meet management objectives. This is question to the topic is conservation.
- 11:45Speaker 2: This is a tough start for our players looking for
- 11:48Speaker 2: a perfect game. What was what was the Shelby five?
- 11:54Speaker 2: Someone in here has a ten in them today? Not Yanni,
- 12:00Speaker 2: not be honest. I went with the backwards hat today
- 12:04Speaker 2: on a Tuesday, of all days, all days, Tuesday. Is
- 12:10Speaker 2: that you've asked me before you You're always like, oh,
- 12:13Speaker 2: backwards today, Spencer, And then I feel like my answer music, Yeah,
- 12:19Speaker 2: it's like Thursday energy and camo hat, uh huh yeah,
- 12:22Speaker 2: casual camo backwards on a Tuesday, on Tuesday in January.
- 12:28Speaker 2: January has got to have like the worst tuesdays that
- 12:31Speaker 2: there are. I'd say, yeah, it.
- 12:34Speaker 7: Does kind of look like he's getting ready to drink
- 12:36Speaker 7: a beer on the beat.
- 12:37Speaker 2: Yeah, now, yeah, he sees it.
- 12:40Speaker 6: Excuse me's Brodie season. There's a lot of like what's good,
- 12:42Speaker 6: fellow kids energy saying Steve from was it thirty Rock?
- 12:53Speaker 6: Does everyone have an answer for question too?
- 12:56Speaker 1: Thirty Rock?
- 12:56Speaker 3: I like that shot answer which which card.
- 13:00Speaker 2: Steve By plays was a private investigator.
- 13:04Speaker 6: He goes undercover at a high school, but it's he
- 13:06Speaker 6: looks like Steve By, but he's got a skateboard and
- 13:08Speaker 6: a hoodie and like a backwards hat on or something.
- 13:13Speaker 2: Everybody ready, go ahead, and your answers, what's that say?
- 13:19Speaker 7: Cal gets points for creative.
- 13:23Speaker 2: Yeah, it says prescribed burn, Seth prescribed burn, Randall deliberate conglagration,
- 13:32Speaker 2: Corey prescribed prescribed burn. You know hansei, slash burn, nate fire, blaze, dragon, charizar, rody,
- 13:42Speaker 2: prescribed burn. The correct answer is prescribed fire or prescribe it.
- 13:47Speaker 1: I was going for something without burning it. I know
- 13:50Speaker 1: that like.
- 13:52Speaker 5: Uses so many common terms, always jack me out.
- 13:55Speaker 2: If too many years, if too many years passed without
- 13:59Speaker 2: a fire and agecy may use a prescribed fire to
- 14:02Speaker 2: help the health of an ecosystem. Some of the benefits
- 14:05Speaker 2: of controlled burns include minimizing the spread of pests, providing
- 14:09Speaker 2: forage for animals, recycling nutrients back into the soil, and
- 14:12Speaker 2: promoting the growth of new plants. The Forest Service also
- 14:15Speaker 2: says one of the best ways to minimize wildfires is
- 14:19Speaker 2: by using prescribed fires.
- 14:21Speaker 5: I do want to say that a backburn is technically correct,
- 14:24Speaker 5: because if your management objective is to slow down a
- 14:28Speaker 5: fire or stop a fire, a backburn is prescribe burn.
- 14:32Speaker 4: That's right.
- 14:33Speaker 2: Question three, They're not going to give it to you.
- 14:37Speaker 5: Let's go through the Forest Service manel.
- 14:40Speaker 6: When I was at Fort Stewart, I was on this
- 14:42Speaker 6: list of they would send out what training errors were
- 14:44Speaker 6: getting burned, and I'd get like five emails.
- 14:47Speaker 5: A day like prescribe burn, prescribe burn, prescribe burn.
- 14:53Speaker 4: More people should be doing. That is all I'm going
- 14:55Speaker 4: to say. Question property.
- 14:58Speaker 2: The topic is fishing. Encyclopaedia Britannica defines this as quote
- 15:03Speaker 2: brown algae that grows as large coastal seaweeds in colder seas.
- 15:10Speaker 2: M Question three another stumper for our crew. Encyclopaedia Britannica
- 15:17Speaker 2: defines this as brown algae that grows in large coastal
- 15:22Speaker 2: that grows as large coastal seaweeds in colder seas. Brody
- 15:28Speaker 2: with an answer, how do you feel about your answer?
- 15:30Speaker 1: Excellent?
- 15:30Speaker 2: How about you seth?
- 15:33Speaker 1: I like your archer man, Nate.
- 15:35Speaker 3: I'm just thinking brown ship that grows up in uh Alaska.
- 15:39Speaker 2: Okay, I don't deserve it. Oh boy, Brody did not
- 15:45Speaker 2: like that hint. Brown algae as the large coastal seaweeds
- 15:51Speaker 2: in colder seas.
- 15:58Speaker 4: Seth, now what I'm thinking about? Thinking what I'm thinking
- 16:01Speaker 4: about considered algae? Okay, I don't know.
- 16:05Speaker 2: Question three the topic is fishing. Encyclopedia Britannica defines this
- 16:11Speaker 2: as brown algae that grows as large coastal seaweeds in
- 16:15Speaker 2: colder seas.
- 16:19Speaker 4: Brody.
- 16:19Speaker 2: Do you think Seth said too much?
- 16:21Speaker 4: I do, ok way too much?
- 16:24Speaker 1: Too much?
- 16:28Speaker 2: Did it help?
- 16:28Speaker 4: I didn't. I didn't think it was a hint that okay,
- 16:31Speaker 4: saying that Alaska was cold?
- 16:33Speaker 9: I keep going, Seth, what did you think of my answer?
- 16:37Speaker 4: I dig that answer.
- 16:38Speaker 2: Okay, you to Randall and Seth agree on what it
- 16:41Speaker 2: might be. It's everybody ready, go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 16:49Speaker 2: We have cal says Bull kelp Yanness Bull kelp, Seth kelp,
- 16:54Speaker 2: Randall kelp, Corey kelp, Hansi kelp forest, Nate kelp Brody kelp.
- 16:59Speaker 2: Everybody got that. The correct answer is kelp or kelp forest.
- 17:03Speaker 9: Better than my original answer of snot.
- 17:05Speaker 2: Contrary to popular belief, kelp is a type of lgae,
- 17:10Speaker 2: not a type of plant. That means they have hold
- 17:13Speaker 2: fast instead of roots, blades instead of leaves, and a
- 17:17Speaker 2: stipe instead of a stem. Help provides critical habitat for
- 17:20Speaker 2: many fish and marine mammals. You know what else is
- 17:23Speaker 2: good for? What's that?
- 17:25Speaker 7: Kids turning it into whips and beating each other with it?
- 17:28Speaker 6: I was just gonna say, the kids in Alaska get
- 17:31Speaker 6: more entertainment out of kelp anything else.
- 17:34Speaker 2: Every day they come back with it. Beat each other,
- 17:36Speaker 2: make like rock water rockets out of it.
- 17:39Speaker 4: Beat it.
- 17:41Speaker 2: Question for the topic is natural history, and this next
- 17:44Speaker 2: great question is via Aaron Welsh. This female name is
- 17:49Speaker 2: also what you call fossilized tree resin. A lot of
- 17:56Speaker 2: our players quick to answer, they're getting their confidence.
- 18:00Speaker 7: Got any of this in your fossil collection, Spencer?
- 18:03Speaker 2: I do. I did not find it, though it was
- 18:06Speaker 2: given to me.
- 18:07Speaker 9: Female name, Doctor Henry Henry Woo.
- 18:10Speaker 10: I know.
- 18:10Speaker 5: I'm so glad Steve's not here so we don't have
- 18:12Speaker 5: to go down the what's your female name?
- 18:14Speaker 4: Sponsor?
- 18:16Speaker 2: I'd like to hear him argue about this. This this
- 18:19Speaker 2: female name is also what you call fossilized tree resin
- 18:25Speaker 2: what's the category natural history? It's everybody ready funny over there?
- 18:34Speaker 4: Phil Corey, Corey just has he's got some questions.
- 18:37Speaker 1: I guess.
- 18:39Speaker 4: Are you ready?
- 18:39Speaker 2: Corey? Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have cal
- 18:44Speaker 2: and Yanni saying Amber, Seth without an answer. Randall says Amber,
- 18:50Speaker 2: Corey says Pitchy Hansi, Nate and Brody say Amber. They
- 18:58Speaker 2: got it. The correct answer is Amber. Amber is often
- 19:02Speaker 2: translucent with a hint of brown, yellow, or orange. Famously,
- 19:06Speaker 2: it was the catalyst for creating Jurassic Park. Here is
- 19:10Speaker 2: a one minute video of the movie where the park's mascot,
- 19:13Speaker 2: Mister Dna, describes Amber's role in dinosaur cloning. Play the clip.
- 19:18Speaker 4: Phil once again apologies to the YouTube audience.
- 19:22Speaker 11: A DNA strand like me is a blueprit for building
- 19:26Speaker 11: a living thing, and sometimes animals that went extinct millions
- 19:30Speaker 11: of years ago, like dinosaurs, left their blueprints behind for
- 19:34Speaker 11: us to find.
- 19:36Speaker 4: We just had to know where to look.
- 19:38Speaker 10: One hundred million years ago, there were mosquitoes just like today,
- 19:43Speaker 10: and just like today, they fed on the blood of animals,
- 19:46Speaker 10: even dinosaurs. Sometimes, after biding a dinosaurs, the mosquito would
- 19:52Speaker 10: land on the branch of a tree and get stuff
- 19:55Speaker 10: in the sap. After a long time, the tree sap
- 19:59Speaker 10: would get hard and become fossilized, just like a dinosaur
- 20:03Speaker 10: bone preserving the mosquito inside. This fossilized tree samp, which
- 20:09Speaker 10: we call amber, waited for millions of years with the
- 20:13Speaker 10: mosquito inside until Jurassic Park scientists came along. Using sophisticated techniques, they.
- 20:21Speaker 11: Extract the preserved blood from the mosquito and Bengo dino.
- 20:27Speaker 9: Dmy, is this a young Brett Reeves doing the voice?
- 20:31Speaker 12: There were four different regional accents.
- 20:35Speaker 2: Real scientists have tried replicating doctor John Hammond's work from
- 20:40Speaker 2: Jurassic Park, but are still unsuccessful. So I do have
- 20:43Speaker 2: a piece of amber, and it does have a bug
- 20:45Speaker 2: in it. I do, but I did not find it. No,
- 20:48Speaker 2: it's given to me a from a fossil collector in Utah.
- 20:53Speaker 3: No question in the flavor of text. I'm surprised, well,
- 20:58Speaker 3: one of the world's top amber produce.
- 21:00Speaker 2: Oh okay, as we was waiting for you to pitch
- 21:05Speaker 2: in with that question. Five the top of this hunting.
- 21:11Speaker 2: This Kentucky bourbon fittingly got its name after a distillery
- 21:15Speaker 2: executive went on his annual bird hunting nineteen forty. This
- 21:22Speaker 2: Kentucky bourbon fittingly got its name after a distillery executive
- 21:26Speaker 2: went on his annual bird hunting nineteen forty. This is
- 21:30Speaker 2: question five. We will get a scoreboard update from Phil
- 21:33Speaker 2: after this. Who are our bourbon or whiskey drinkers in
- 21:39Speaker 2: the room? Not me, Corey and HANSI.
- 21:43Speaker 4: I drink it, but there's nothing.
- 21:45Speaker 2: It's not like that. Yeah, Hans, you got this one right?
- 21:51Speaker 12: I don't think so, but I'm gonna take a guess.
- 21:53Speaker 2: Okay, Corey, do you have this one right?
- 21:54Speaker 11: Man?
- 21:54Speaker 3: I sure, hope so.
- 21:55Speaker 2: Ok.
- 21:56Speaker 1: There's another bird.
- 21:59Speaker 8: Game bird themed whiskey that I'm thinking of, but I'm
- 22:03Speaker 8: not sure if.
- 22:04Speaker 2: It's a bourbon. This Kentucky bourbon fittingly got its name
- 22:07Speaker 2: after a distillery executive went on his annual bird hunt
- 22:11Speaker 2: in nineteen forty. Ah oh okay, Hansei, one of our
- 22:17Speaker 2: whiskey experts. Going back to his whiteboard, Hansei also a samolier.
- 22:24Speaker 12: I wish taking donations.
- 22:29Speaker 2: I'll tell you that. Yeah, you got to take classes
- 22:31Speaker 2: for that, right, Yeah? Hansei? Or excuse me, Corey, if
- 22:36Speaker 2: you have this one right? Have you had this bourbon?
- 22:39Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 22:39Speaker 2: What do you think of it? You know, on the
- 22:44Speaker 2: beach for tasting the difference all honestly, it all tastes
- 22:47Speaker 2: good out of your ski jacket. Hansei, if you have
- 22:50Speaker 2: this one right? Do you have a review of this bourbon.
- 22:54Speaker 9: Like a number like.
- 22:56Speaker 2: I love on a scale one to ten? Sure, yeah, yeah,
- 23:00Speaker 2: I can.
- 23:00Speaker 12: I can do that.
- 23:01Speaker 2: Do that you're gonna tell us?
- 23:03Speaker 12: Or I had to switch it up because I think
- 23:05Speaker 12: I put a Scotch on there first.
- 23:09Speaker 1: Damn.
- 23:10Speaker 2: This Kentucky bourbon fittingly got its name after a distillery
- 23:13Speaker 2: executive went on his annual bird hunting.
- 23:19Speaker 3: Did you grow up skiing drunk?
- 23:24Speaker 9: Technically?
- 23:24Speaker 3: I was just like heard of people doing it, but
- 23:27Speaker 3: just we just never did it for some reason.
- 23:29Speaker 2: What's that drinking and skiing?
- 23:31Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 23:31Speaker 2: Oh, you gotta have a little nerp on the chair
- 23:33Speaker 2: lift sometimes?
- 23:35Speaker 7: Are you doing something else up there? He used to
- 23:44Speaker 7: do that dangerous back country stuff, so you couldn't afford.
- 23:49Speaker 1: Growing up skiing drunk.
- 23:50Speaker 8: To me, just I envisioned toddlers immediately can be very
- 23:55Speaker 8: interesting visual.
- 23:59Speaker 2: Where people skiing the pizza straight down shots.
- 24:03Speaker 8: You sit at the chair lift and it's like watching
- 24:05Speaker 8: bowling from the perspective of.
- 24:07Speaker 2: Three straight to the bottom.
- 24:10Speaker 8: Car hurt sixty miles an hour into the lift line?
- 24:14Speaker 2: Is everybody there, y'all?
- 24:16Speaker 1: Watch out?
- 24:17Speaker 2: Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have cal saying
- 24:21Speaker 2: bird dog, Giannis says wild turkey, crossed out bird dog,
- 24:26Speaker 2: Seth wild turkey, Randal wild turkey, Cory wild turkey, Hansei
- 24:30Speaker 2: wild turkey, Nate Buffalo, Trace, Brodie wild turkey. The correct
- 24:36Speaker 2: answer is wild turkey. The room did very well.
- 24:42Speaker 5: How often when you go turkey hunting? Spencer like, just
- 24:47Speaker 5: what are you gonna do this weekend? Do you say
- 24:49Speaker 5: I'm going bird hunting? I'm going on my annual bird hunt.
- 24:53Speaker 4: I have just a question.
- 24:54Speaker 2: I think six of our eight players got that right.
- 24:56Speaker 2: I feel good about the word. If I would have
- 24:59Speaker 2: given you, you know you don't answer the question, I
- 25:03Speaker 2: would not say I'm going to bird hunting, but it
- 25:05Speaker 2: wouldn't be wrong.
- 25:06Speaker 9: I'm going to start.
- 25:08Speaker 1: I was picturing the bottle, but I couldn't come up
- 25:14Speaker 1: with the name.
- 25:14Speaker 2: That distillery executive said his buddies in camp loved the
- 25:18Speaker 2: bourbon he brought with him, so they named it after
- 25:20Speaker 2: the bird they were hunting. Other liquors with birdie names
- 25:24Speaker 2: include red Breast, Famous Grouse, gray Goose, Kentucky Owl, old Crow,
- 25:29Speaker 2: and eagle rare.
- 25:31Speaker 1: Old Crow, make cow.
- 25:33Speaker 7: I was just thinking times when your turkey hunt, you'll
- 25:36Speaker 7: be like found some bird.
- 25:37Speaker 1: Gotta didn't find any birds. I heard some birds.
- 25:40Speaker 5: So the same question to you.
- 25:43Speaker 3: It's spring, you're out doing stuff. What are you doing
- 25:47Speaker 3: this weekend?
- 25:49Speaker 4: Our annual bird saying it?
- 25:53Speaker 8: If it's when he went on this annual turkey hunt
- 25:56Speaker 8: in nineteen four, I think I would have been worm.
- 26:00Speaker 2: What's what's your review of wild Turkey bourbon?
- 26:03Speaker 12: I think it's a totally serviceable bourbon. Put it out
- 26:05Speaker 12: a three three point five, three seven five out of
- 26:08Speaker 12: a five. Ok we're talking like if we're talking like
- 26:12Speaker 12: Colonel H. Taylor is like like a four point five
- 26:16Speaker 12: and happy Van Winkle be in a five. Okay, wild
- 26:19Speaker 12: turkey in that three territory solidly serviceable, excellent. I'm gonna
- 26:23Speaker 12: put Old Crow down at like two. And like, what
- 26:28Speaker 12: about in.
- 26:29Speaker 2: A glass bottle?
- 26:31Speaker 9: Glass bottle? If we put a plastic bottle, we're going one.
- 26:34Speaker 2: It's like vodka with caramel coloring. So I'm gonna write
- 26:38Speaker 2: no bourbon questions just so we can get your comments.
- 26:42Speaker 2: Have you had have you had pappy before?
- 26:44Speaker 12: I have never had pappy, so I shouldn't. But you
- 26:46Speaker 12: know it's one of those like it's they the price
- 26:49Speaker 12: come on, like but you know again taking donations here.
- 26:53Speaker 9: You want me to find out what a five is like?
- 26:55Speaker 1: Please?
- 26:56Speaker 9: My desk is.
- 26:57Speaker 2: Open, Phil, We're halfway through the game. Give us this
- 27:00Speaker 2: or board update.
- 27:03Speaker 4: There we are. Hey, it's a pretty it's a pretty
- 27:05Speaker 4: close game all things considered.
- 27:06Speaker 6: We've got Natan last place with two, coming up next
- 27:09Speaker 6: to Cal and Hansei with three points apiece. Then I'll
- 27:12Speaker 6: tie up our Corey, Jannis, Seth and Randall with four
- 27:15Speaker 6: and in first place. It's a perfect game for Brodie Henderson.
- 27:19Speaker 2: Wow. Again, this was supposed to be a tournament episode today,
- 27:22Speaker 2: but Steve couldn't make it, so we had to punt
- 27:24Speaker 2: on that. But the rumors this will be a stressful
- 27:26Speaker 2: tournament and heavy hitters are we still doing We're gonna
- 27:30Speaker 2: do it at a certain point. If we can't make
- 27:32Speaker 2: it happen with Steve's schedule, We're just gonna play it
- 27:34Speaker 2: without him, and I'll figure out an alternative to still
- 27:37Speaker 2: get Steve involved because he is the defending champion. Question six.
- 27:44Speaker 2: The topic is biology. This next great question is via
- 27:48Speaker 2: Joe Mason. Platypus and blank are the only mammals that
- 27:53Speaker 2: lay eggs. Platypus and blank are the only mammals that
- 28:02Speaker 2: lay eggs. The room is stressed again, except for maybe Randall. Randall,
- 28:09Speaker 2: do you have this one right?
- 28:10Speaker 1: I believe so.
- 28:12Speaker 2: Randall is confident. Brody, who has the perfect game going,
- 28:16Speaker 2: is tapping the whiteboard against the bill of his hat.
- 28:20Speaker 9: We need one.
- 28:24Speaker 2: Can you picture it? Bro You know the animal? You
- 28:27Speaker 2: just can't find its name. Platypus and blank are the
- 28:32Speaker 2: only mammals that lay eggs. This is question six. The
- 28:35Speaker 2: topic is biology. Seth now going to his whiteboard.
- 28:47Speaker 9: It's a tough little game here.
- 28:49Speaker 8: I wouldn't have guessed that it was a five on
- 28:52Speaker 8: the old index.
- 28:53Speaker 2: You did well, Seth. How do you feel all your answer?
- 29:00Speaker 4: I honestly have no clue. I just wrote something down.
- 29:03Speaker 2: Platypus and blank are the only here's your hint, they're
- 29:08Speaker 2: the only mammals that lay eggs.
- 29:09Speaker 1: Phill, Do I know this?
- 29:12Speaker 4: H Spencer? Can I give a phil hint that.
- 29:19Speaker 2: You're certain? Fill? It will not help any of the
- 29:21Speaker 2: eight players in the room, then I'd say go for it.
- 29:23Speaker 8: I feel good about that, though, uh no, no, don't
- 29:27Speaker 8: do it.
- 29:28Speaker 2: Do it? I think I know what you're gonna say.
- 29:31Speaker 2: I don't think if it were to help somebody. It
- 29:33Speaker 2: would be Randal and Randall already have it?
- 29:35Speaker 6: Has his answer, Well, honestly, it's a hint that might
- 29:38Speaker 6: actually throw people off because they don't think what they
- 29:41Speaker 6: might know that.
- 29:41Speaker 1: Yeah, but they don't, they don't, they don't do it.
- 29:45Speaker 2: We're gonna we're gonna say, hold off on the hint.
- 29:48Speaker 2: It's a type of Pokemon, isn't it.
- 29:50Speaker 9: You're not far off where chars are.
- 29:54Speaker 2: Platypus and blank are the only mammals that lay.
- 29:59Speaker 9: Eggs, which is just disgusting.
- 30:01Speaker 1: When do you really think about it?
- 30:04Speaker 2: Yeah, we need something to go extinct's perverts, make up
- 30:10Speaker 2: your mind? Is everybody ready? Brody? Just right? Okay, he's
- 30:17Speaker 2: gonna throw some letters on the board. Corey, Hansei, you
- 30:21Speaker 2: give up, go ahead and reveal your answers. We have
- 30:25Speaker 2: callan Yanni without an answer. Seth says pang Randall says kidna,
- 30:32Speaker 2: Cory Wallaby Hansi ant eaters, Nate Pangolin, Brody, that's that's
- 30:40Speaker 2: the word, Randall got it. The correct answer is a
- 30:43Speaker 2: kidna or a spiny anti eater. Now, Hansei said anteater.
- 30:48Speaker 2: But I don't think we're gonna give it. List If
- 30:56Speaker 2: everyone else says, come on for sure, how many points
- 31:04Speaker 2: you have? How many points does head?
- 31:07Speaker 4: Oh?
- 31:08Speaker 6: Sorry, Hansey currently has three if we give him the
- 31:10Speaker 6: point four?
- 31:13Speaker 2: He gets it again. It's an a kidnap, yes, aka
- 31:16Speaker 2: a spiny antieater. Platypus and a kidnap possess other unique qualities,
- 31:22Speaker 2: like legs that are on their sides instead of underneath them,
- 31:26Speaker 2: and having just a single duct for urine feces and
- 31:29Speaker 2: sex rather than multiple openings. Scientists say egg laying mammals
- 31:33Speaker 2: were once common but got out competed by marsupials about
- 31:37Speaker 2: seventy million years ago. Is it still called a cloaca?
- 31:40Speaker 2: I gotta know, cho, I don't know if you.
- 31:45Speaker 5: Platypus is also venomous. Yeah, yeah, which is a crazy fact.
- 31:49Speaker 2: Question seven, Are you going to move on with that
- 31:53Speaker 2: our hint? Oh? Yeah, what's the hint?
- 31:54Speaker 1: Film?
- 31:55Speaker 6: Oh, I was gonna say, he's very prominent antagonist in
- 31:57Speaker 6: a famous video game franchise is technically nap. Yeah, exactly,
- 32:08Speaker 6: But Randall, Randall got it, he knew.
- 32:13Speaker 5: Question Well, the hedgehog is also something that can be venomous.
- 32:18Speaker 5: But and that's yeah, same same deal. But they rub
- 32:22Speaker 5: venom they eat venomous stuff and then secrete it onto
- 32:26Speaker 5: their spines. Oh questions, that's not they're not generating the venom.
- 32:30Speaker 2: Seven The topic is fishing. What American lake has a
- 32:35Speaker 2: monster named Champ whose sightings are likely just long nose
- 32:39Speaker 2: gar and lake sturgeon? What American lake has a monster
- 32:46Speaker 2: named Champ whose sightings are likely just long nose gar
- 32:50Speaker 2: and the lake sturgeon. Brody and Randall both like their answers, Hansei,
- 32:56Speaker 2: do you have this one right? No? Okay? Again is
- 33:00Speaker 2: question seven? The perfect game is now over, but I
- 33:05Speaker 2: think it tightened up as well, says likely just a
- 33:12Speaker 2: long nose gar and the lake sturgeon. What American lake
- 33:16Speaker 2: has a monster named Champ whose sightings are likely just
- 33:19Speaker 2: a long nose gar and the lake sturgeon. We had
- 33:25Speaker 2: a question a few weeks ago about mothman if you
- 33:27Speaker 2: can't tell Right now, I'm reading a cryptids book which
- 33:30Speaker 2: has inspired a few trivia questions.
- 33:36Speaker 12: What is the what's the definition of cryptids?
- 33:38Speaker 2: Like what it's It's any animal that's not recognized by
- 33:42Speaker 2: science or something like that. So there are animals who
- 33:47Speaker 2: were once considered cryptids that then just became accepted, Like
- 33:52Speaker 2: there's a fish that we thought was extinct for sixty
- 33:54Speaker 2: five million years. Yes, and then they found one and
- 33:59Speaker 2: then it just you know, became an animal.
- 34:03Speaker 7: Wasn't that thing always in the fossil record and they
- 34:05Speaker 7: just it wasn't a cryptid.
- 34:07Speaker 2: It was just extinct. Sure, But I think by like that,
- 34:11Speaker 2: it's like Bigfoot, yes, moth man champ.
- 34:16Speaker 4: I don't think Selacanth qualifies.
- 34:19Speaker 1: It's everybody really abominable.
- 34:20Speaker 5: Unless there's a story of Celacanth coming in and like
- 34:23Speaker 5: stealing children.
- 34:24Speaker 1: Right.
- 34:24Speaker 2: The cabra uh huh. Choopocabre is a recent cryptid. Most
- 34:29Speaker 2: of the cryptids that we hear about go back to
- 34:31Speaker 2: like I don't know Native American lore, but the chroop
- 34:34Speaker 2: of cabra was like nineteen ninety nine. Uh. Interesting, it's
- 34:39Speaker 2: not based on some no at first, and it's like
- 34:42Speaker 2: sort of the thought of what a cheopacabra is has changed.
- 34:45Speaker 2: It started in Puerto Rico, where its described as sort
- 34:47Speaker 2: of an alien like figure, and then by the time
- 34:49Speaker 2: it made it to the States in Texas, it's become
- 34:52Speaker 2: like this hairless blue dog.
- 34:54Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 34:55Speaker 2: I just didn't come around until the nineties.
- 34:56Speaker 8: I associated with the Taco bell dog. So because it
- 35:00Speaker 8: sounds like a order at Taco bell.
- 35:03Speaker 2: Does everyone have an answer for the American lake that
- 35:05Speaker 2: has a monster named Champ whose sightings are likely just
- 35:08Speaker 2: a long nose guard and lake sturge. Go ahead and
- 35:11Speaker 2: reveal your answers. Cal says Champlain. Yanna says Placid, Seth Placid,
- 35:18Speaker 2: Randall Lake Champlain, Corey and Hansei say Lake Champlain. Nate
- 35:24Speaker 2: says Okachobe, Brody Lake Champlain. He got it the correct answer.
- 35:29Speaker 4: Great fanetic spelling of.
- 35:33Speaker 9: Where you have all your answers to try to get
- 35:35Speaker 9: one of them right.
- 35:36Speaker 4: No answer.
- 35:38Speaker 2: Champ has been deemed America's lock nest. There have been
- 35:41Speaker 2: hundreds of sightings of Champ going all the way back
- 35:44Speaker 2: to the Iroquois tribe. The lake monster has been described
- 35:47Speaker 2: as being fifteen to fifty feet long, with a snake
- 35:50Speaker 2: like body and horse like head.
- 35:53Speaker 4: You never seen this, Seth.
- 35:54Speaker 3: The answer was in the question.
- 35:57Speaker 4: Well, I almost.
- 35:58Speaker 6: Moved with Champlain, but the the movie Lake Placid was
- 36:02Speaker 6: throwing me off.
- 36:03Speaker 1: But it wasn't on Lake Placid.
- 36:07Speaker 9: A deep cut, frustrating, terrible, terrible question.
- 36:13Speaker 2: Question eight. The topic is cooking and this next Great
- 36:17Speaker 2: Questions via David Servini Merriam Webster defines this nine letter
- 36:22Speaker 2: dish as quote thinly sliced raw meat or fish served
- 36:27Speaker 2: with a sauce. This question eight. We'll get another scoreboard
- 36:33Speaker 2: update from filled the engineer after this. Merriam Webster defines
- 36:36Speaker 2: this nine letter dish as thinly sliced raw meat or
- 36:40Speaker 2: fish served with a sauce. Brody, you got this one, right,
- 36:49Speaker 2: I got nine letters? Okay, Yanni joining them? Yanni, you
- 36:55Speaker 2: got this one.
- 36:57Speaker 4: I believe so.
- 37:03Speaker 2: You Pennsylvania boys. Ever been to Lake Champlain?
- 37:06Speaker 7: No, that's a long ways.
- 37:08Speaker 2: Vermont would be like driving to northeast Montana, right, No, No,
- 37:13Speaker 2: it's a hall.
- 37:15Speaker 9: That northern spot is sneaky big.
- 37:17Speaker 5: To be fair, Northeast Montana is a hall from here.
- 37:20Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like seven hours.
- 37:22Speaker 1: I mean, but we go there recreational.
- 37:24Speaker 4: I don't know, like, I don't know what.
- 37:26Speaker 7: What do you think it would take seth to get
- 37:29Speaker 7: up to northern Vermont like or souther day southern New.
- 37:34Speaker 2: York because it goes across both states.
- 37:37Speaker 4: Probably, well, it takes about nine hours.
- 37:42Speaker 3: We're going.
- 37:44Speaker 2: Is like maybe six hours Lancaster an okay, representative from
- 37:48Speaker 2: that way south Okay, longer from there to make Champlain
- 37:52Speaker 2: six hours fifty minutes. And that's if you're like going
- 37:55Speaker 2: from southern PA from state college, yeah, or eerie state college. Again,
- 38:02Speaker 2: we are on.
- 38:03Speaker 3: This is why the internet. Yeah you really really.
- 38:09Speaker 1: Pittsburgh.
- 38:10Speaker 2: Uh, state College will be seven hours thirteen minutes. And
- 38:13Speaker 2: again that's just going to like the western side here,
- 38:16Speaker 2: Pennsylvania's gotta be We're done, We're done doing uh distances
- 38:21Speaker 2: from Pennsylvania places to Lake Champlain. Again, A nine.
- 38:25Speaker 1: Letter days.
- 38:28Speaker 7: In Northeastern miles or time, that's way longer than Montana time.
- 38:34Speaker 7: It's like, no one thinks twice about driving six hours
- 38:38Speaker 7: across Montana.
- 38:41Speaker 2: Say it's a hall again, A nine letter dish that's
- 38:44Speaker 2: a thinly sliced raw meat or fish served with a sauce.
- 38:48Speaker 2: As everybody ready, and I bet if you're going from
- 38:51Speaker 2: where we're sitting now to like northeast Montana, that's probably
- 38:55Speaker 2: six and a half hours.
- 38:57Speaker 4: Yeah, pass lower.
- 38:59Speaker 8: You'd pass a lot fewer Burger Kings though along the way,
- 39:01Speaker 8: which is how some of us measure our road trip.
- 39:04Speaker 2: Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have callen Yanni
- 39:08Speaker 2: saying Carpaccio, Seth says Sashimi Randall says carpacchio. Corey, Shashimi, Hansi,
- 39:17Speaker 2: and Nate and Brody say carpaccio. They got it. The
- 39:21Speaker 2: correct answer is carpaccio. Here's how you spell it, c
- 39:25Speaker 2: A r p a cc io. Anybody have that right?
