- Ronaldo answers! This is The Sports Reset for Wednesday June 24th In World Cup soccer, Portugal got the story of the night, rolling past Uzbekistan 5 to 0 as Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice and became the first man to score in six different men's World Cups. England had a bumpier night, drawing Ghana 0 to 0 despite controlling long stretches; Nico O'Reilly hit the bar late, and Ghana's defensive stand kept both teams moving toward the knockout round with their group positions still open. Croatia kept its tournament alive by beating Panama 1 to 0, while Colombia edged Congo DR 1 to 0. In MLB, the Philadelphia Phillies pulled off the wildest finish, beating the Washington Nationals 14 to 9 after an eight-run ninth inning powered by Brandon Marsh's tying homer and Bryson Stott's go-ahead shot. The Yankees beat the Tigers 4 to 3 behind Jazz Chisholm Jr.'s go-ahead homer. In the WNBA, the New York Liberty beat the Las Vegas Aces 87 to 76. Looking ahead, today's World Cup slate has Brazil against Scotland at Hard Rock Stadium as the headliner, with Mexico against Czechia in Monterrey and Canada against Switzerland at BC Place giving the day real group-stage weight. South Korea against South Africa, Qatar against Bosnia-Herzegovina, and Haiti against Morocco round out a busy soccer board. In MLB, the Chicago Cubs and New York Mets play a doubleheader at Citi Field after the June 22 makeup, and Juan Soto's day-to-day back tightness gives that matchup an extra health watch. The Houston Astros and Toronto Blue Jays run it back after Houston's 11-inning win, while the Philadelphia Phillies visit the Washington Nationals again after that late collapse. In the WNBA, Phoenix Mercury at Indiana Fever is the early attention grabber, and Atlanta Dream at Golden State Valkyries gets a little extra shine with Atlanta drawing broader title-conversation attention. Off the floor, the NBA Draft continues tonight with Round 2 after the Washington Wizards took AJ Dybantsa first overall.
