- 0:00So MAGA owns the media now. Anyone, anyone cheering nobody.
- 0:08I didn't think so. Hey guys, sub emergency, welcome
- 0:11back to my channel. And let's let's talk about this
- 0:14because if you weren't aware, there was just a monumental
- 0:17media merger. That's a lot of M's that just
- 0:19went through between Paramount, Skydance, essentially Paramount
- 0:23Pictures and all that comes with that and Warner Brothers
- 0:26Discovery. And if this sounds like old news
- 0:29to you, that's because because it initially was or at least we
- 0:32all thought it was like this is nothing new.
- 0:34There has been talks of a Warner Brothers merger happening for
- 0:38honestly like months now. And a lot of people when this
- 0:41news broke were like, Oh my God, this is really bad because this
- 0:43is the potential death merger of media of having everything under
- 0:451 conglomerate. Except that conversation was had
- 0:48primarily around Netflix because for a while it was poised that
- 0:53Netflix was going to buy Warner Brothers discovery and
- 0:57everything would be under the Netflix umbrella.
- 0:59However, as I lived yesterday, as of recording this video,
- 1:02Paramount made a counter offer towards that deal that was at a
- 1:05higher amount than what Netflix is going to pay.
- 1:07And Netflix yesterday decided that, yeah, I don't need that.
- 1:09I don't know who need that, but we at Netflix do not need that.
- 1:13So we are backing out of the steel, which means that
- 1:15Paramount is now acquiring Warner Brothers Discovery, which
- 1:19again is flooding the news with the end times of media rhetoric.
- 1:23Paramount just outbid Netflix to take over Warner Brothers.
- 1:26And if you live in the US, this is actually pretty bad news.
- 1:30Over the last year, President Trump has been quietly planting
- 1:33allies at almost every major news outlet.
- 1:36And if one person controls the media, they control the
- 1:39narrative. Everything that you see, but
- 1:42importantly, everything that you don't see.
- 1:44And I'm pretty much here to tell you that, yeah, some of that is
- 1:48very valid. Like, this was a $110 billion
- 1:52deal that essentially just sold our news, our media and our
- 1:55entertainment to the Trump administration.
- 1:58Like, this might be hyperbole, but this feels very similar to,
- 2:00like, the entertainment equivalent to the Supreme Court
- 2:02being packed with conservatives. Because this is going to last us
- 2:06quite a long time. And the repercussions of this
- 2:09have yet to be fully seen, but definitely will be realized in
- 2:12due time. And I think by the time that
- 2:13they are fully realized, it might be too late.
- 2:15And let me explain why to breakdown exactly why everyone
- 2:18is freaking out about this, we have to understand what these
- 2:21parent companies really entail and why this feels so sketchy
- 2:24entertainment wise. Like, yeah, this sounds like a
- 2:26big deal. Yes, this was a large amount of
- 2:29money that was used for this deal.
- 2:30But what has actually come with it?
- 2:32And in order to break that down, we have to initially talk about
- 2:35what comes with each company. So let's look at Paramount.
- 2:38So when you think of Paramount, you may think of things like
- 2:39Paramount Plus, which does not sound really crazy because
- 2:43Paramount Plus historically hasn't been the most relevant
- 2:46streaming service. Although, and I say that as
- 2:48someone who's had a Paramount Plus gift card for I want to say
- 2:51like four or five years at this point and has not redeemed it
- 2:54because I have to watch it on there.
- 2:56So maybe this is an example of patience being a very true.
- 2:58But Paramount as it stands prior to this deal going through owns
- 3:01the CBS network, which includes things like CBS News and all
- 3:04that comes with that. BET, Comedy Central, country
- 3:07music television, Nickelodeon, the Paramount Network, Pop,
- 3:10Smithsonian TV Land, VH1 and Showtime as well as Pluto TV.
- 3:14And that's already a huge swath of entertainment and news when
- 3:16we talk about that. But with this Warner Brothers
- 3:18acquisition, they're also gaining HBO and HBO Max, CNNTNT,
- 3:24the Discovery Channel, TOCHDTV, the Food Network, Cartoon
- 3:28Network, and much, much more. And that combined under one
- 3:31company is insane and is an exorbitant amount of IP under
- 3:35one name. And I'm going to get serious in
- 3:36a second, but I swear, if I see Superman being some kind of
- 3:40dealer for roof smoking a point with SpongeBob SquarePants in
- 3:44this new season of Vuforia, I am going to crash out.
- 3:46Because what do you mean they are now all under the same
- 3:49company? Like this is insane.
- 3:55We can't win. We can't win bro Why?
- 3:58But getting that contract? Be serious.
- 3:59For me, this essentially means that in the streaming sector,
- 4:02the three main superpowers right now are Netflix, now Paramount
- 4:06and Disney. And that's already not great
- 4:07when we're talking about like, the whole, let's not monopolize
- 4:10all of entertainment. But the implications of this
- 4:12politically is really where things start to look scary.
- 4:15Now just came out literally to go to Netflix is declined to
- 4:18raise the offer and it's looking like Paramount is going to buy
- 4:21Warner Brothers. We were just getting used to the
- 4:24idea of Netflix and Warner Brothers being one unit and that
- 4:29took a lot. And you mean to tell me that the
- 4:31fucking Ellison's are going to have a major stake in Hollywood
- 4:35and going to be pumping out Trump Zionist and conservative
- 4:38propaganda? This is some bold mind.
- 4:41It is after multiple CEO's went to Congress, went to go visit
- 4:45Trump, the DOJ was stepping in. Meanwhile, us, the consumers,
- 4:49have to suffer. So like I said, with this
- 4:51acquisition, one parent company now owns news sources like
- 4:55CBSCNN and TNT, if you can call with that.
- 4:58I just say that because TNT typically owns things like
- 5:01sports and Sports News as well as also owning MTV.
- 5:04And this becomes especially concerning when you look at who
- 5:06the head of Paramount is right now and who his ties and
- 5:09allegiances are currently to enter David Ellison.
- 5:12And if that last name sounds familiar, that's because David
- 5:15Ellison is the son of Larry Ellison, the very popular
- 5:18billionaire who has not only been a long time Republican
- 5:20supporter and donor as well as someone who has very closely
- 5:23aligned themselves with Trump, but he also is the owner of
- 5:27Oracle. And if Oracle's sounds familiar
- 5:29to you, it's because Oracle is pretty much everywhere.
- 5:31But Oracle is most recently in the news because they are now
- 5:34the largest stakeholder of TikTok.
- 5:36Yes, yes. So one family with very close
- 5:40allegiances to Trump to the point where they get personally
- 5:42invited to the State of the Union address, not only own the
- 5:45largest social media platform in the country, but also own damn
- 5:48near half of the news media companies as well as regular
- 5:53media entertainment companies. And if that doesn't sound
- 5:55concerning to you, or if you're like, just because they're
- 5:58really close aligned to Trump, doesn't mean they're going to do
- 6:00things in favor of Trump and let their political affiliations
- 6:03bleed into their work. And then I have some news for
- 6:06you. And that news for you,
- 6:08ironically, comes with the historical precedent of CBS and
- 6:11specifically the recent fall of CBS.
- 6:13Because if you weren't familiar, CBS was a news platform that
- 6:16used to pride itself on its neutrality, often trying to
- 6:19report on stories geared towards the mainstream massive audience.
- 6:22So they weren't perfect by any means, but they generally tried
- 6:25to stick somewhere in the middle in terms of reporting and in the
- 6:29ways that they wrote about stories.
- 6:30However, many have noticed that recently CBS has taken a turn as
- 6:34David Ellison has become more and more cozy with the Trump
- 6:36administration has moved CBS from being more center left to
- 6:39now leaning more right. With CBS News's new editor in
- 6:43chief, Barry Weiss taking prominent stances to make CBS
- 6:47more anti woke and also getting in the news for the untimely
- 6:49cancellation of the late night show with Stephen Colbert.
- 6:52Essentially making moves and going after people that have
- 6:55criticisms over the Trump administration and what's been
- 6:57going on in the world. And we've also been seeing CBS
- 6:59make interesting changes to the languages and headlines that
- 7:02they put online, either covering more of what the Trump
- 7:04administration is doing and framing it in a positive or
- 7:07neutral way as opposed to a neutral negative way no matter
- 7:10what is coming out. As well as under reporting on
- 7:12things that are just flat out bad IE Epstein stuff, economy
- 7:16stuff, ICE stuff. This is a chart showing the
- 7:19decline in Tony Decapol's first week on air. the Y axis here.
- 7:23Admittedly not very generous to Tony Decapol and CBS, but here
- 7:27it is. On Monday of last week, his
- 7:29first week, the viewership was around 4.4 million.
- 7:32Pretty good. But by Thursday, literally 3
- 7:35days later, it shot down to 3.9 million.
- 7:39Fully 500,000 people said Nah we're good.
- 7:42And now after two weeks we know. Viewership down 23% compared
- 7:46with the same period a year. Ago and this is setting a spooky
- 7:49precedent now that we have more news networks under that same
- 7:52parent company of Paramount and only time will tell if these
- 7:55news networks like CNNMTV and TNT go down a similar the root,
- 7:59which does bring up more questions around what it means
- 8:02to be a Free Press. Like is the press really free if
- 8:05billionaires can essentially just buy them out and make them
- 8:08say and report on whatever they want or not report on whatever
- 8:11they want. And this is all coming out of
- 8:13time where we are deep in the mis and disinformation wars
- 8:15where it is harder than ever to know if something is true or not
- 8:18AI manipulated or not, or are in some way shape or form just
- 8:21plain flat out propaganda. And just to zoom out again, I do
- 8:24have to reiterate, like, things are wild when you have these
- 8:27billionaires controlled doing pretty much all of entertainment
- 8:30and news because again, the Ellison family now has control
- 8:32over large swaths of news networks, large swaths of
- 8:36entertainment, and again, the largest and most popular social
- 8:40media app in the US with that being TikTok.
- 8:42And we are already seeing the rise of censorship and takedowns
- 8:45of content that are political, anti Trump, anti ICE, pro
- 8:48Palestine, anti Israel or generally any other
- 8:51controversial topic on that platform.
- 8:53So let's just hope that doesn't spread to the others as well.
- 8:56Like we're really living in a time where billionaires own our
- 8:58media. Like besides the Ellisons, you
- 8:59already have tech billionaires that have continuously cozied up
- 9:02to this current administration like Bezos who owns the Amazon
- 9:05properties as well as the Washington Post that has become
- 9:08a publication that has been known to underreport, misreport,
- 9:11or does not report on things that are not in line with this
- 9:13administration's goals. Then you have other tech
- 9:15billionaires like Zuckerberg and Musk who own the other social
- 9:18media platforms, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter who have
- 9:20all tailored their apps to become these pro Trump rage
- 9:24baity misinformation slop sites where you really can't tell
- 9:27what's real and what's fake. And that is so sad to me because
- 9:29I will always talk about how they follow Twitter is so
- 9:31personal to me. Like I remember a time where you
- 9:34can go on Twitter and reliably, you know, Internet literacy and
- 9:37all, but you know, like reliably trust that like breaking news is
- 9:41going to break and be by and large pretty accurate on that
- 9:44app when it happens. And now you just can't use the
- 9:47app that way anymore. Because for one, if you're lucky
- 9:49enough to get news that is actually relevant to your area
- 9:51and or relevant to stuff that is actually happening, all the
- 9:53posts under it are either going to be engagement farmers only
- 9:55fans, bots, or a vague post you're trying to capitalize on
- 9:58the moment or just random red pill conservatives with three
- 10:01American flags in their bio saying like slurs.
- 10:03And before I go any further, I do have to have a quick reality
- 10:05check with you. If you zoom out right now and
- 10:07think about all the things that we've just talked about and
- 10:09imagine you were hearing about this all happening to another
- 10:12country. It would sound like that country
- 10:14is not doing well and is in the throes of authoritarian
- 10:16propaganda. So let's not pretend that it's
- 10:19just different because it's happening here in America.
- 10:22Like should all this happen anywhere else, we would think
- 10:24that it is a problem and it is one.
- 10:27And this is all just so pointing because this mass acquiescence
- 10:30that we're seeing of our media to the Trump administration and
- 10:34to the MAGA movement is scary because we've now reached a
- 10:37point where the administration essentially controls or at very
- 10:40least has very heavy influence and a large share of our news
- 10:43and media. And besides the propaganda of it
- 10:45all, I don't need to explain to you why this might not be a good
- 10:48thing just solely based on how things have been playing out
- 10:51over the past year. And I don't mean to fear monger
- 10:53when I say this, but our press, our media and our entertainment
- 10:56have become compromised and it feels like we kind of just got
- 11:00AI don't know, deal with it. And this is really my main thing
- 11:03here and where I'd like to hear from you in the comments as to
- 11:06what's your thoughts, solutions and how you're going to move in
- 11:08the future are going to be because like, what do we
- 11:10realistically do from here? Where do we go from here?
- 11:13Because in my mind, boycotts are the first thing that come to
- 11:15mind. But what happens when we get to
- 11:17the point where we have to boycott pretty much all of the
- 11:19companies that are involved in our forms of entertainment, in
- 11:24our forms of news and our forms of community building and
- 11:27engagement with the global world?
- 11:29Because in my mind, that becomes isolating in a different way.
- 11:31And I really don't have an answer to this.
- 11:33And again, I'd love to hear from you because, yeah, I don't have
- 11:35answers to this. I really just am making this
- 11:38video to, for one, keep you informed and to two, open a
- 11:41conversation about this because I think we do need to come
- 11:44together to figure out how we're going to move, what's going to
- 11:47happen because this cannot continue.
- 11:50And this does feel illegal. I don't know the legality behind
- 11:53this. I know there are some lawsuits
- 11:54like antitrust stuff, but it doesn't really seem like those
- 11:57are going to have substantial gains in terms of changing
- 11:59things. What are we to do?
- 12:00And again, I really feel bad making these sorts of videos
- 12:03because I don't mean to be alarmist and don't mean to be
- 12:04dumorous and super negative, especially because I feel like
- 12:07you come to these videos on YouTube or Spotify, wherever
- 12:09you're watching this to kind of get an escape or at least to
- 12:12think about something else while you're eating a meal.
- 12:14But I really just want to make sure you're informed in the loop
- 12:16and thinking about these things critically because we need to be
- 12:19doing that more, especially in the times we're currently in.
- 12:21So for at least while the lights are on here on YouTube, we're
- 12:25going to keep talking about it. But yeah, things aren't looking
- 12:28good right now.
