- 0:01Speaker 1: Thanks Mike Layne cracking back in the win column of
- 0:03Speaker 1: five one win over Vancouver. In those sixty minutes that
- 0:08Speaker 1: you saw, what were the biggest differences between your play
- 0:10Speaker 1: then and then you're playing the first two games out
- 0:12Speaker 1: of the break in your mind?
- 0:14Speaker 2: I thought we were a lot better through the neutral zone,
- 0:17Speaker 2: way better pressure. Angles didn't give them. You know, there
- 0:21Speaker 2: were times when they came through the neutral zone with
- 0:23Speaker 2: some speed, but I thought we did a better job there.
- 0:25Speaker 2: And I just think defensively in the D zone, closing
- 0:27Speaker 2: and you know, getting out of our zone quicker. We
- 0:32Speaker 2: talked about spending too much time in our zone in
- 0:34Speaker 2: the previous two games, which allowed us to play more offensively.
- 0:38Speaker 2: I thought our offensive game was pretty good against some
- 0:41Speaker 2: own tucks and made some plays in.
- 0:43Speaker 1: A game like that. You know, given the previous results,
- 0:46Speaker 1: how important for you is it that that was a
- 0:48Speaker 1: statement five to one win? Your best players were your
- 0:51Speaker 1: best players. You had a couple of multi point Night's
- 0:53Speaker 1: showy decord, you know, that confidence from him almost scoring
- 0:57Speaker 1: his first goal of his career. How big was that
- 1:00Speaker 1: for you to see the krack and win in that way?
- 1:04Speaker 2: Uh? Yeah, I mean it was just it was good
- 1:07Speaker 2: to see us get back on on the positive side
- 1:09Speaker 2: of things. You know, Joey played well, our leadership stacked
- 1:15Speaker 2: up in a game where we needed to needed to win,
- 1:20Speaker 2: you know, and that's Vancouver at home, is a game
- 1:24Speaker 2: that we you know, in my mind, if we're you know,
- 1:29Speaker 2: gonna go where we want to go, we have to
- 1:31Speaker 2: win that game. You're not always gonna do that, but
- 1:35Speaker 2: certainly you do yourself as a favor when you when
- 1:37Speaker 2: you win a hockey game like that. And I thought
- 1:39Speaker 2: our guys did a good job of stepping up to
- 1:40Speaker 2: the plate. Uh, tonight, it's a different opponent, you know.
- 1:44Speaker 2: I mean, it's a better opponent obviously, you know, but
- 1:49Speaker 2: certainly we've got to be We've got to be good tonight.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Wrapping up the Vancouver game, have you ever seen two
- 1:54Speaker 1: hat tricks taken away in one season before?
- 1:57Speaker 2: No? No, I never ever understand why they throw their
- 2:00Speaker 2: hats on the ice anyway. I mean you got to
- 2:04Speaker 2: go buy another one. But yeah, that was something else. No,
- 2:09Speaker 2: I've never seen that before. But credit to our fans,
- 2:11Speaker 2: and I thought they were outstanding on Saturday, right from
- 2:14Speaker 2: the get go. Building one's full and you can sense
- 2:18Speaker 2: that energy when they bring it and our guys feet off.
- 2:21Speaker 1: That last time you played Carolina back in January, I mean,
- 2:24Speaker 1: it was a close game in the score, but one
- 2:27Speaker 1: area that the Krakend were limited was shots on goal,
- 2:30Speaker 1: and that's been something you've been preaching here the last
- 2:32Speaker 1: couple of games. How do you have that shot first mentality,
- 2:36Speaker 1: especially against a team like Carolina where on the road
- 2:39Speaker 1: they don't get a lot, they also don't give up
- 2:42Speaker 1: a lot either.
- 2:42Speaker 2: Yeah, well, you just have to take advantage of your
- 2:44Speaker 2: opportunities when you get them. You know, if you get
- 2:47Speaker 2: a two on one, you're gonna have to shoot the park.
- 2:48Speaker 2: You can't try and make a fancy play shots create shots.
- 2:52Speaker 2: They're extremely good defending team. What they do is they
- 2:55Speaker 2: play man on man. So if you put to the net,
- 3:02Speaker 2: you know, that's when you have the opportunity to beat guys,
- 3:05Speaker 2: beat guys on retrievals, and then you know have the
- 3:07Speaker 2: opportunity to shoot the buck again. But clearly going to
- 3:11Speaker 2: be a difficult game. Our mentality going into this game
- 3:15Speaker 2: is to understand.
- 3:16Speaker 1: And know that.
- 3:18Speaker 2: You know, there can't be any level of frustration that's
- 3:21Speaker 2: just a negative emotion when you're not getting shots and
- 3:25Speaker 2: you know, we'll see, we'll see how we have all that.
- 3:28Speaker 1: You were asked this morning by Alison in the larger
- 3:30Speaker 1: media scrum, how do you go about scouting a team
- 3:32Speaker 1: like Carolina? You only see them twice a year? I
- 3:35Speaker 1: know you yourself have coached against them numerous times with
- 3:38Speaker 1: your time back out east. How do you go about
- 3:41Speaker 1: preparing for a game like this in which you haven't
- 3:43Speaker 1: seen this team only once since January and you're not
- 3:47Speaker 1: going to see him again.
- 3:48Speaker 2: Yeah, well, we prepare for every team that we only
- 3:51Speaker 2: see twice the same way. We prepare for every team
- 3:54Speaker 2: with the same way. Or video guys too, She and
- 3:56Speaker 2: Adam Turner do a great job of getting a video
- 3:58Speaker 2: for us and areas that we scout. You know, as
- 4:02Speaker 2: a coaching staff, we're all in the same page, obviously,
- 4:06Speaker 2: and we put together a game plan, formulate a game
- 4:09Speaker 2: plan based on what we see, and you know, we
- 4:13Speaker 2: usually go back to Carolina's last three games, go through
- 4:15Speaker 2: those and then take a look at the Carolina game
- 4:18Speaker 2: that we played there, which I thought, you know, it's
- 4:21Speaker 2: interesting because even though we talk about, you know, the
- 4:26Speaker 2: lack of shot volume in Carolina, we had some really
- 4:28Speaker 2: good looks and we had three or four outnumbered rushes.
- 4:31Speaker 2: Jayden Schwartz had a point blank one in the rate
- 4:34Speaker 2: and the slot in the second period. You know, and
- 4:37Speaker 2: and for the most part, you know that game was
- 4:40Speaker 2: ours to be had. That was one of those ones where,
- 4:43Speaker 2: you know, we felt that we kind of let it
- 4:45Speaker 2: slip away. Certainly when you're you know, when you're we
- 4:49Speaker 2: had the lead with probably six or eight minutes left
- 4:52Speaker 2: in the game, so you know, we played a good
- 4:54Speaker 2: enough hockey game. I don't let the shot clock fully
- 4:56Speaker 2: all the time when you play the Carolina Hurricanes,
