Mitchell and Dudley have more walnuts than their wagon can reasonably carry. T.C. has a pickup and already knows what’s waiting for them at Warren’s hardware store.

It ought to be a straightforward trip: sell the walnuts, collect the money, and buy the walkie-talkies.

But the boys have another stop to make, and Miss Ruth has a question about Halloween that leaves them looking at each other without saying much.

T.C. notices that. He notices a few other things, too—before Warren gets to explaining which button to push.
