- 0:05Speaker 1: NFL Now is a production of the NFL in partnership
- 0:08Speaker 1: with I Heart Radio. We have an injury report, specifically
- 0:37Speaker 1: on the quarterbacks. We have a weather report as well,
- 0:40Speaker 1: specifically on the downpour that we might have in the
- 0:45Speaker 1: early game on Super wild Card weekend Saturday in Santa Clara.
- 0:48Speaker 1: We have any and everything that you need to know
- 0:50Speaker 1: about these six games coming up in this hour here
- 0:53Speaker 1: of NFL Now on NFL Network. From our newsroom in
- 0:56Speaker 1: Los Angeles. My name is ANDREWS Siciliana. We begin with
- 0:59Speaker 1: our reports on the Raiders and Derek Carr, specifically the
- 1:03Speaker 1: fact that for all intents and purposes is the Raiders
- 1:06Speaker 1: are now accepting phone calls for their all time leading passer.
- 1:11Speaker 1: He's been there nine years, but he didn't play the
- 1:13Speaker 1: last two games. Jarret Stidham did, and car was away
- 1:16Speaker 1: from the team. They're moving on and they're ready to
- 1:19Speaker 1: trade him. Derek Carr has taken to Twitter to thank
- 1:23Speaker 1: Raider fans both in Vegas and back in Oakland, and
- 1:26Speaker 1: he said that while in the past he has suggested
- 1:29Speaker 1: he only wants to play for the Raiders, he now
- 1:32Speaker 1: is ready for the next chapter. He now is ready
- 1:35Speaker 1: to go win a championship somewhere. It's just not going
- 1:39Speaker 1: to be with the Raiders. It's good more on this one.
- 1:42Speaker 1: The en rappapor Tom Fella Sero with me. Now Ian
- 1:45Speaker 1: there is a deadline of sorts here because there's money
- 1:49Speaker 1: that's come and do tell me about that. Yeah, the
- 1:53Speaker 1: forty plus million dollars becomes fully guaranteed in Derek Carr's
- 1:56Speaker 1: contract three days after the super Bowl, and that is
- 1:59Speaker 1: the deadline. And usually these things can linger and we'll
- 2:02Speaker 1: talk about it all February. This is not that case.
- 2:04Speaker 1: What a new team needs to know, and really what
- 2:07Speaker 1: the Las Vegas Raiders need to know as well as
- 2:10Speaker 1: is Derek Carrs guaranteed money gonna be on the books?
- 2:12Speaker 1: Presumably they would release him before that money becomes fully guaranteed.
- 2:16Speaker 1: That we do not know that for sure, and the
- 2:18Speaker 1: forty Niners and Jimmy Garoppolo are a great reason for that.
- 2:21Speaker 1: But what the Raiders need to figure out, Thomas, what
- 2:24Speaker 1: is the market? No doubt about it, Derek Carr is
- 2:26Speaker 1: going to be one of the hotter free agent potentially
- 2:29Speaker 1: quarterbacks available, but we don't know is he going to
- 2:32Speaker 1: be the hottest trade quarterback available? You of Tom Brady
- 2:35Speaker 1: potentially of Jimmy Garoppolo, Baker Mayfield. They are going to
- 2:38Speaker 1: be others, But does the team want to lock in
- 2:40Speaker 1: their starting quarterback right now? With a month ago before
- 2:44Speaker 1: free agency. The Raiders are gonna be making calls, They're
- 2:46Speaker 1: gonna be taking calls. They're going to be figuring it
- 2:49Speaker 1: out meanwhile, not shutting the door in anything. Well, Derek
- 2:52Speaker 1: Carr said out a goodbye statement, so it certainly seems
- 2:55Speaker 1: he is pointing to a which direction this goes ian
- 2:59Speaker 1: There are parallels here to the Lions and Matthew Stafford
- 3:02Speaker 1: a couple of years ago, where the sides got together
- 3:05Speaker 1: in the days after the regular season ended, decided it
- 3:08Speaker 1: was going to be best to go their separate ways
- 3:10Speaker 1: and then work together to figure out Matthew Stafford's landing
- 3:14Speaker 1: spot that ended up being the Rams. The deal got
- 3:16Speaker 1: done on January, which would fit the timeline that the
- 3:20Speaker 1: Raiders are on. The difference, of course, here, is that
- 3:22Speaker 1: Derek Carr does have that forty point four million dollars
- 3:25Speaker 1: and becomes fully guaranteed if he's still on the roster.
- 3:28Speaker 1: At four pm Eastern one pm Pacific time on Tuesday,
- 3:31Speaker 1: February four, so it's very clear. Besides have one month
- 3:35Speaker 1: to work something out, car has no trade clause, and
- 3:38Speaker 1: even if he didn't, he would still have control over
- 3:40Speaker 1: this situation by simply saying he's not going to go
- 3:42Speaker 1: someplace if he doesn't want to be there. If they
- 3:45Speaker 1: can't work something out, then the expectation would be the
- 3:49Speaker 1: Raiders would end up releasing him. But again, they've got
- 3:51Speaker 1: a month to try to figure out something trade wise,
- 3:53Speaker 1: all right. Derek Harr turns thirty two at the end
- 3:56Speaker 1: of March. For those who say we'll go get a
- 3:58Speaker 1: young quarterback, Tom Brady is playing Monday Night at the
- 4:01Speaker 1: age of forty six. Thank you, Ian, Thank you Tom.
- 4:05Speaker 1: What is the market now for Derek Carr All time
- 4:09Speaker 1: leading passer and Raiders franchise history, Mark Ross all kinds
- 4:13Speaker 1: of comebacks? Actually tied with Brett Farr for fourth quarter
- 4:16Speaker 1: and overtime comebacks. He's come through in the clutch, never
- 4:19Speaker 1: won a playoff game though he hasn't. But I think
- 4:23Speaker 1: it'll still be robust Andrew, And that's just because there's
- 4:26Speaker 1: just not a lot of good quarterbacks in the league,
- 4:28Speaker 1: not enough to go around. You got your top tier guys.
- 4:31Speaker 1: The Mahomes and Allen's and then after the drop off there,
- 4:35Speaker 1: you know you've got some younger guys in the mix.
- 4:37Speaker 1: But I think it'll be robust because Derek Carr has
- 4:39Speaker 1: shown to be a Pro Bowl quality quarterback in this league. Yes,
- 4:43Speaker 1: he had the down year this year, but teams will
- 4:46Speaker 1: also look at the person that Derek Carr is, the dependability,
- 4:51Speaker 1: the leadership, the intelligence, Dell factor all that in and
- 4:55Speaker 1: say Derek Carr will still work and get better and
- 4:58Speaker 1: get back to that Pro Bowl form that he has shown.
- 5:01Speaker 1: You'd have to look at sort of the trades in
- 5:03Speaker 1: the past couple of years four quarterbacks. Let's just use
- 5:06Speaker 1: Carson Wentz for an example. Two years ago, the Eagles
- 5:09Speaker 1: got a first round pick for Carson. Last year, the
- 5:11Speaker 1: Commanders gave up a second round pick. Some other picks
- 5:14Speaker 1: were involved there, but essentially a second round pick for
- 5:16Speaker 1: Carson Wentz, the guy that showed that he wasn't the
- 5:18Speaker 1: answer for for Indie and then goes and still gets
- 5:22Speaker 1: more trade value there. So I think there Car when
- 5:25Speaker 1: teams really start looking at the player that he can
- 5:28Speaker 1: get back to the forum and the person that will
- 5:31Speaker 1: really intrigue teams and to go get Derek Andrew the
- 5:34Speaker 1: bigger Mayfield Traders for a conditional five granted, much different situation.
- 5:38Speaker 1: He was on the fifth and final year. It was
- 5:40Speaker 1: a guaranteed year coming off of his rookie deal. But yeah,
- 5:44Speaker 1: teams need quarterbacks and the carousel has now officially begun
- 5:49Speaker 1: to spun. Thank you, Mark Ross. Speaking of the quarterback carrousel,
- 5:52Speaker 1: let's talk Jets quarterbacks here Zack Wilson, Joe Flacco, Mike White.
- 5:57Speaker 1: As Robert Salad does his postseason press conference today, also
- 6:02Speaker 1: in Rapp Report, Jets owner Woody Johnson spoke to the
- 6:06Speaker 1: local media. What do you have to say about the
- 6:07Speaker 1: whole quarterback thing? Well, the quarterback thing is gonna be
- 6:12Speaker 1: a big part of the Jets off season. And which
- 6:14Speaker 1: quarterback are they're gonna go after? How much are they're
- 6:16Speaker 1: gonna pay for him? Are they going to trade a
- 6:18Speaker 1: lot of questions. Woody Johnson provided some answers today, telling
- 6:22Speaker 1: local beat writers that he would be willing to pay
- 6:24Speaker 1: for a potential free agent or traded quarterback. It could
- 6:28Speaker 1: be big money. Everything involving quarterbacks is big money. So
- 6:31Speaker 1: hearing a commitment from Woody Johnson there, I think was
- 6:34Speaker 1: important and essential if the Jets are really gonna do
- 6:37Speaker 1: anything this offseason. The other thing that Woody Johnson said
- 6:40Speaker 1: was that there is no playoff mandate for Joe Douglas
- 6:43Speaker 1: and Robert Salt, which also is good to hear. That
- 6:46Speaker 1: said they're gonna want progress. The only progress you would
- 6:49Speaker 1: think would be the playoffs. So while there's no mandate,
- 6:52Speaker 1: clearly everyone involved knows that they are going to need
- 6:55Speaker 1: to show improvement and probably make the playoffs. So the
- 6:58Speaker 1: words are words, but I think the it is very
- 7:00Speaker 1: clear inside the organization that things need to get better
- 7:04Speaker 1: and it starts at the position. Also interesting and maybe
- 7:06Speaker 1: something for later that we could do another day. Woody
- 7:09Speaker 1: Johnson said that he wasn't necessarily happy with the way
- 7:12Speaker 1: that Zack Wilson was developed, but again we'll hold that
- 7:16Speaker 1: to another day. Meantime, Tom on the coaching search, what
- 7:19Speaker 1: are the Carolina Panthers up to? Carolina Panthers are putting
- 7:26Speaker 1: in a lot of interview requests right now, Andrew. Of course,
- 7:28Speaker 1: they've already conducted multiple interviews with the likes of Jim Caldwell,
- 7:32Speaker 1: Frank Reich, their interim coach, Steve Wilkes. They've requested a
- 7:35Speaker 1: handful of offensive coordinators, and another request that went in
- 7:38Speaker 1: today was for Demiko Ryan's the forty Niners defensive coordinator,
- 7:43Speaker 1: who has been a hot name so far in terms
- 7:45Speaker 1: of requests. The Cardinals actually also have put in for Ryan,
- 7:49Speaker 1: so have the Broncos and the Texans, So the first
- 7:52Speaker 1: candidate that we know of that has four different requests.
- 7:54Speaker 1: He's obviously done a phenomenal job with that forty Niners defense.
- 7:57Speaker 1: He's a former NFL player, strong leadership traits, and really
- 8:00Speaker 1: impressed the Vikings when he interviewed for their job a
- 8:03Speaker 1: year ago. Meanwhile, the Texans interviews are continuing. One name
- 8:07Speaker 1: that they have requested is Ram's assistant head coach and
- 8:11Speaker 1: tight ends coach, Thomas Brown. Brown interviewed with the Dolphins
- 8:15Speaker 1: for their head coaching vacancy one year ago. He's somebody
- 8:18Speaker 1: that Sean McVeigh has called one of the greatest competitors
- 8:20Speaker 1: that he's ever been around, a former NFL running back himself,
- 8:23Speaker 1: So keep an eye on Thomas Brown amongst some of
- 8:25Speaker 1: the other names. In Houston, where they completed their interview
- 8:28Speaker 1: with Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson today and just made
- 8:31Speaker 1: that announcement of moments ago. Thank you Tom, and thank
- 8:34Speaker 1: you Ian. Coaching news and quarterback news. It's that time
- 8:38Speaker 1: of the year, heading into Super wild Card weekend coming
- 8:41Speaker 1: up next on NFL Now. The Niners of the first
- 8:45Speaker 1: came up on Super wild Card weekend. They get the Seahawks.
- 8:50Speaker 1: We get Tayshawn Gibson, who had a couple of picks
- 8:52Speaker 1: last week. What do they have in store for GINO
- 8:55Speaker 1: and Round three? We'll find out rolling in the balance,
- 8:59Speaker 1: But you're to team for the stuf that I appreciate
- 9:01Speaker 1: the world, Wayne, a Niner, you knowing that one come
- 9:09Speaker 1: left one time for the NFC West, the divisions, faithful
- 9:13Speaker 1: to the pay Niners game up your chest. It's time
- 9:16Speaker 1: for playoff performance and nothing left. Kristin McCaffrey's looking ready
- 9:19Speaker 1: at the starting trash. That mid season train got the
- 9:22Speaker 1: fake Bolson and number twenty three got to squad rally
- 9:24Speaker 1: the route eighteen hundred plus scrimin Yard is still counting.
- 9:28Speaker 1: See him seven, moving like he's running down a mountain
- 9:31Speaker 1: where Bertie has been bawling. He was two we three,
- 9:33Speaker 1: Mr Relevant been looking relevant to me. He went from
- 9:36Speaker 1: getting lasting and tramped the leading the playoff team. With
- 9:39Speaker 1: his past and the flash, but not least as a
- 9:42Speaker 1: defense guaranteed to have your team wondering where to lead.
- 9:46Speaker 1: Went led by Nick Bolsa in his past rush the
- 9:48Speaker 1: forty Niners plus a ring. I guess we'll see if
- 9:51Speaker 1: that adds up, see if it adds up to a win.
- 9:55Speaker 1: The first step on that road to a potential super
- 9:58Speaker 1: Bowl is this week, and it could be raining. Tayshawn Gibson,
- 10:01Speaker 1: coming off a two pick performance week a team joins
- 10:03Speaker 1: us live on nine. How are you, tay Sean? I'm
- 10:07Speaker 1: doing well? Playoff football can being it can be feeling
- 10:10Speaker 1: any better. You cannot feel anybody. You might feel better
- 10:13Speaker 1: if if it wasn't a ninety percent chance of a
- 10:15Speaker 1: downpour though, right man, Absolutely nobody like ring games, but
- 10:18Speaker 1: you know what, that's what comes with it. So playoff
- 10:20Speaker 1: football gotta take it as it come. Okay, rain game,
- 10:23Speaker 1: So they run the ball, You run the ball. Is
- 10:25Speaker 1: that that? That's the simplistic way to look at this, right,
- 10:29Speaker 1: No one's gonna throw, You're gonna run. You gotta be
- 10:32Speaker 1: a mutter. Is that a cliche or is that a
- 10:35Speaker 1: real look at this game on Saturday? You know, honestly,
- 10:39Speaker 1: I think that that's a realistic look. Um, when when
- 10:42Speaker 1: it comes down to you know, sloppy football man, you
- 10:45Speaker 1: when it when it's raining and things like that. It's
- 10:47Speaker 1: just one of those things where you want to control
- 10:49Speaker 1: the ball. So obviously they have a good running back,
- 10:52Speaker 1: they have a good run game. Um, we have a
- 10:54Speaker 1: good run back. We have good run games. So it's
- 10:56Speaker 1: gonna be about who gonna be the most physical team
- 10:58Speaker 1: out there, and obviously that's who's probably gonna control the
- 11:01Speaker 1: temple and control the game. And obviously we're excited for
- 11:03Speaker 1: that matchup or run deep fence. Got some dogs up front,
- 11:07Speaker 1: so you know, if I'm a bet man, I definitely
- 11:09Speaker 1: like my eyes with the guys that we have. But
- 11:11Speaker 1: obviously it's gonna be exciting matchup. Come out there Saturday
- 11:14Speaker 1: and help me out. You're you're thirty two years old.
- 11:17Speaker 1: Why does Kyle Shanahan call you dad? Because this team
- 11:22Speaker 1: is so young. So when you got a guy like
- 11:24Speaker 1: me thirty two, you know, thirty two in the real world,
- 11:26Speaker 1: you're still a young man, but thirty two and in
- 11:28Speaker 1: the NFL world, as y'all know, especially in this locker room,
- 11:31Speaker 1: I'm definitely the old man. Got three kids, so you know,
- 11:34Speaker 1: I'm definitely Dad. Man. I gotta take those young guys
- 11:36Speaker 1: under my wings. Man. You know some of those guys
- 11:38Speaker 1: my my running mate huff Uh, he's teen years younger
- 11:41Speaker 1: than me. He's a two thousand babies, So to put
- 11:43Speaker 1: that in perspective, I'm definitely an old man in the room.
- 11:46Speaker 1: So you know it's a title that I wear with
- 11:48Speaker 1: a with a badge on it. Man, for sure. Man,
- 11:49Speaker 1: it's pretty funny Talano who fun goes having an amazing
- 11:52Speaker 1: season in his second year heading to the Pro Bowl here.
- 11:56Speaker 1: So Dad is evidently gonna make some money. After that
- 11:59Speaker 1: two pick game last week, Jimmy Ward went to the
- 12:01Speaker 1: locker room, Tay Shawn said that you're about to make money.
- 12:05Speaker 1: What a ride it has been. I mean, you were
- 12:07Speaker 1: sitting at home with your kids in August the phone rang,
- 12:11Speaker 1: and dude, I know it's about team, but this has
- 12:14Speaker 1: been quite a one year deal for you. You know,
- 12:18Speaker 1: I couldn't script it, man, All glory be to God,
- 12:20Speaker 1: this just was a perfect opportunity. Obviously, shout out to Jimmy.
- 12:24Speaker 1: He has been nothing but you know, one of my
- 12:26Speaker 1: closest friends on the team. Um, just helping me throughout
- 12:29Speaker 1: this process. Him and Huff. So I appreciate those words
- 12:32Speaker 1: from Jimmy Man obviously, just just being able to play
- 12:35Speaker 1: with a guy like him, in my opinion, one of
- 12:36Speaker 1: the best sages in the league. But I couldn't scripted
- 12:39Speaker 1: this any better. I say, sitting here going into preseason three,
- 12:42Speaker 1: I couldn't have scripted and said, man, I would be
- 12:44Speaker 1: here right now on this team, on the best defense. Um,
- 12:47Speaker 1: with the type of success that we've been able to have. Um,
- 12:50Speaker 1: you know, I'll be lying if I said I've seen
- 12:52Speaker 1: this happening. So I'm just humbled to have this opportunity.
- 12:55Speaker 1: First and foremost, I'm humbled to be in a position
- 12:57Speaker 1: to be here. And you know, it's just fun. It's just,
- 13:00Speaker 1: you know, I have nothing to lose. It's just truly is.
- 13:02Speaker 1: It's fun and it's a kid's game. Although I'm dad,
- 13:05Speaker 1: I'm still out here having fun like I'm a kid still.
- 13:07Speaker 1: And it looks that way. You lead the team with
- 13:09Speaker 1: five interceptions, including one off Geno Smith week two, when
- 13:13Speaker 1: you guys beat the Seahawks when they were riding high.
- 13:15Speaker 1: They are coming off that big Monday Night went over
- 13:17Speaker 1: Russell and the Broncos to open up the season, is
- 13:20Speaker 1: this offense different now than the one you saw a
- 13:24Speaker 1: week two or a couple of weeks ago in Seattle. Absolutely.
- 13:28Speaker 1: I think that when you see Geno Smith is coming
- 13:30Speaker 1: off of a Pro Bowl bi is so when you
- 13:32Speaker 1: look at a guy like that, he's obviously playing high
- 13:34Speaker 1: quality football right now. Walker the running back, when we
- 13:37Speaker 1: first seen him week two, he didn't get me any touch,
- 13:39Speaker 1: And I think Penny was still a guy, and he
- 13:41Speaker 1: just progressively got better and better and better as a
- 13:43Speaker 1: as a year went on, and he's one of the
- 13:45Speaker 1: top running backs in the league and his first year
- 13:47Speaker 1: and not even in the full season of playing. Obviously,
- 13:49Speaker 1: they have weapons Lockt Metcalf, those guys are still top
- 13:52Speaker 1: tier receivers man. So um, I think that those guys
- 13:55Speaker 1: are jelling and they're playing good, complimentary football. They can run,
- 13:58Speaker 1: they can pass, tight ends blocking tight ends, can make play.
- 14:00Speaker 1: So we gotta work cut out for us. Obviously seeing
- 14:03Speaker 1: them two times, Uh, the outcome of those two games
- 14:05Speaker 1: doesn't matter. Everybody know him. Playoff football. It's winning to
- 14:08Speaker 1: go home, so you can get teams best shots. So
- 14:10Speaker 1: we're expecting a dog fighting rightfully. So that's a good
- 14:13Speaker 1: division opponent. That's coming in here and we'll see high
- 14:16Speaker 1: shakeout ta Sean. Should Damiko Ryan's be a head coach
- 14:19Speaker 1: next year, absolutely no question about it. If he's not,
- 14:22Speaker 1: it's my choice, um, due to him staying here and
- 14:26Speaker 1: want to be around the guys, which I'm sure everybody
- 14:28Speaker 1: would love Miko to stay here. But I mean he's
- 14:31Speaker 1: been lights out and and it'd be a travesty if
- 14:33Speaker 1: he's not a head coach somewhere else obviously. Uh right now,
- 14:38Speaker 1: we focus on playoff football, so you know, I think
- 14:40Speaker 1: that that's the most important thing. But he's done a
- 14:42Speaker 1: light He's done an incredible job. I have nothing but
- 14:45Speaker 1: respect for him since the day I walked in here.
- 14:47Speaker 1: Just his knowledge of the game as well as being
- 14:50Speaker 1: a player. He understands the game from a different land.
- 14:52Speaker 1: So just been a wonderful joy to work with a
- 14:54Speaker 1: guy like Miko for sure. What makes him so good?
- 14:57Speaker 1: Like you guys have a lot of talent there obviously,
- 15:00Speaker 1: and that that's always the thing with coordinators. It's like, Wow,
- 15:03Speaker 1: he was so good and then he goes to kind
- 15:05Speaker 1: of head coach somewhere, but he's not taking all of
- 15:07Speaker 1: you with him, all right. Um, you know I think
- 15:10Speaker 1: that just just his understanding of the game. I think
- 15:13Speaker 1: that the way he caused the game just the understanding
- 15:15Speaker 1: of the game. And like I said, he never gets
- 15:17Speaker 1: too high too low. I don't think i've heard Minko
- 15:20Speaker 1: Yale two months this year. Obviously, it's a testament to
- 15:23Speaker 1: the players that he had, but it's a testament to
- 15:25Speaker 1: the coaching. And I think that he's just a guy
- 15:27Speaker 1: who commands the room. He's a leader of men, and
- 15:30Speaker 1: it's just like I said, it's just a pleasure to
- 15:32Speaker 1: work with this group of guys, obviously, and he's just
- 15:35Speaker 1: been who I envision him being. The defense was great
- 15:38Speaker 1: last year. You come in this year and take even
- 15:40Speaker 1: bigger step, which is hard to do when you was
- 15:42Speaker 1: already a dominant defense. And that's just a testament to
- 15:45Speaker 1: show the type of coach he is, the man he
- 15:47Speaker 1: is the player here I mean in the coach is
- 15:49Speaker 1: so like I said, he's just a guy who command
- 15:52Speaker 1: this room. And you want to play for a guy
- 15:53Speaker 1: like Miko, and it's fun going out there. You don't
- 15:55Speaker 1: want to let him down because you understand what the
- 15:57Speaker 1: game meaning him and it spells out on the guys
- 15:59Speaker 1: that he's leading out there. Every Sunday. Well, if dad,
- 16:02Speaker 1: if your dad, rather than he's a grandmother, he's a
- 16:04Speaker 1: guy of father at Tashawn Gibson happy you're back at
- 16:10Speaker 1: the postseason. Congratulations on the success and good luck to
- 16:13Speaker 1: you on appreciate it. Thank you. I think you'll have
- 16:16Speaker 1: Tayshawn Gibson everybody to San Francisco. Forty diers let him
- 16:18Speaker 1: with five interceptions this year coming up next, Speaking of picks,
- 16:22Speaker 1: stacks thrown one in seven consecutive games. Does that change
- 16:26Speaker 1: Monday night in Tampa? How does it change? Coming up?
- 16:33Speaker 1: A big folk gang in around. It's all about resilience.
- 16:41Speaker 1: Let's go Dallas, you're ready for the play a let well,
- 16:44Speaker 1: I feel the same. It's not enough to make them
- 16:46Speaker 1: no more this time of what's some games he used
- 16:48Speaker 1: to aim This road to a ring is no West shot.
- 16:51Speaker 1: The Cowboys gonna need that director from Mr Prescott shout
- 16:54Speaker 1: the debt and when he's in the quarterback zone and
- 16:57Speaker 1: it's a rap. One of the recons this season. Dallas's
- 16:59Speaker 1: on the matter. Last year took the first rat of ross,
- 17:02Speaker 1: but that was that. Now we all try, let's getting better.
- 17:05Speaker 1: How you wanted in the Scott Winks leets. We're talking Russian.
- 17:08Speaker 1: You should meet Tony Politic. They'll just eat. They see
- 17:11Speaker 1: SAT team in on the deep fens. So you need
- 17:14Speaker 1: to retreat this season, they've been a league ceedee land
- 17:17Speaker 1: sup with single coverag journal you might want a chance
- 17:20Speaker 1: of second day? Was this man? So Michael Parsons in
- 17:23Speaker 1: that deep fits too much to hand to tune into
- 17:25Speaker 1: this playoff run. Don't touch the shack. Darren Woodson said yesterday,
- 17:31Speaker 1: you know, maybe a Hall of Famer Darren Woodson that
- 17:33Speaker 1: if they had that anthem back in the day, they
- 17:35Speaker 1: would have won more than three Super Bowls. Just throwing
- 17:37Speaker 1: it out there. So the Cowboys maybe said, listen to
- 17:40Speaker 1: that anthem as they get ready to head down to
- 17:43Speaker 1: Tampa on Monday. This is very different music, however, and
- 17:45Speaker 1: get ready to face Tom Brady. I think you gotta
- 17:50Speaker 1: embrace these opportunities. I'm gonna think about it. I mean,
- 17:52Speaker 1: you're talking about you know, clearly you're probably the most decorated,
- 17:57Speaker 1: you know, player of our generation, maybe even a history
- 18:00Speaker 1: of the Nasal Football League. So I mean that speaks
- 18:02Speaker 1: to what he's accomplished. But uh, I know, as competitors,
- 18:06Speaker 1: we're we're all excited about this opportunity to compete against Tom.
- 18:10Speaker 1: But the end of the day, this is this is football.
- 18:13Speaker 1: You know, it's uh, you know, it's you know, it's
- 18:15Speaker 1: more about the eleven and all the things that go
- 18:17Speaker 1: into it. But yeah, I would say, you know, that's
- 18:20Speaker 1: something you can ask the players in locker room, Like,
- 18:22Speaker 1: I mean, we're we're excited about the opportunity if Cowboys
- 18:26Speaker 1: too and oh career franchise that is against the Bucketeers.
- 18:29Speaker 1: They have thirty five all time playoff victories. Tom Brady
- 18:34Speaker 1: has thirty five all time playoff victories. That we got
- 18:36Speaker 1: a million numbers to throw at you. Um, we can
- 18:39Speaker 1: also say that Dak Prescott, G. D. Batista completed a
- 18:42Speaker 1: career low thirties seven point eight percent of his passes
- 18:44Speaker 1: in Week eighteen. That was the Cowboys worst loss of
- 18:46Speaker 1: the year. Regardless, if they are to beat Brady, they
- 18:49Speaker 1: probably need a better offensive balance than what we've seen
- 18:53Speaker 1: of late. Yeah, the offensive balance is almost entirely out
- 18:57Speaker 1: of whack. Actually, if you go back to when the
- 18:59Speaker 1: Cowboys had Cooper Russian there um and and they were winning,
- 19:03Speaker 1: they were not attempting anywhere year. The number of passes
- 19:06Speaker 1: that they have been lately thirty seven. They were nowhere
- 19:10Speaker 1: close to those numbers. Part of the problem is that
- 19:14Speaker 1: their balances out of Part of the problem is that
- 19:16Speaker 1: they have not been able to run the ball very effectively,
- 19:19Speaker 1: especially if you look at the last three weeks, the
- 19:21Speaker 1: numbers have declined until against Washington it was down to
- 19:24Speaker 1: sixty four yards rushing, which is just abysmal. But in
- 19:27Speaker 1: the last four weeks they're averaging averaging only three point
- 19:30Speaker 1: two yards per rush. That is just nowhere near what
- 19:34Speaker 1: this team wants to be. Don't forget this team wants
- 19:36Speaker 1: to be a run first offense. Then Kellen Moore, the
- 19:39Speaker 1: offensive coordinators, said they've got to find a way to
- 19:42Speaker 1: be more efficient. He said, you don't need the big
- 19:44Speaker 1: explosive runs, the twenty yard runs, but you've got to
- 19:46Speaker 1: get more efficiency so that you are not in third
- 19:49Speaker 1: and long and then you're putting it all on the
- 19:52Speaker 1: passing game. And more said, we got to figure out
- 19:54Speaker 1: a way, whether it's mixing up personnel or presentation, they've
- 19:57Speaker 1: got to find a way. The bottom line here is
- 20:00Speaker 1: the inability to run, and part of it certainly is
- 20:02Speaker 1: that there are injuries along the offensive line. But the
- 20:05Speaker 1: inability to run is putting even more pressure on the
- 20:08Speaker 1: passing game. And that's what we're seeing with Dad right
- 20:11Speaker 1: He is looking like he's pressing and trying to do
- 20:14Speaker 1: too much. It's all on his shoulders and the Cowboys
- 20:17Speaker 1: are going to have to try to figure out a
- 20:19Speaker 1: way to get the running game going to give him
- 20:22Speaker 1: some relief. If the Cowboys don't win this, it'll be
- 20:25Speaker 1: their ninth consecutive road playoff loss. The only streak longer
- 20:31Speaker 1: the Lions at eleven. That's what's at stake. Partly Monday
- 20:35Speaker 1: night in Tampa, Thank you, Judy Batista, A game that
- 20:37Speaker 1: will wrap up Super Wild Cards weekend. This game will
- 20:41Speaker 1: open it up. This game is at four thirty Eastern
- 20:44Speaker 1: time on Saturday, the Seahawks and the Fortys. And if
- 20:47Speaker 1: you haven't heard by now, Brock Purties, first time to
- 20:52Speaker 1: the postseason, welcome to the playoffs, and just how these
- 20:58Speaker 1: past six games prepared you for what you're about to face. Yeah, um,
- 21:04Speaker 1: I'm not trying to make it bigger than what it is. Um.
- 21:07Speaker 1: Obviously there's more on the line and everything. Um, but
- 21:10Speaker 1: I think you know, having six games under my belt
- 21:13Speaker 1: in terms of just playing in an NFL game and
- 21:15Speaker 1: trying to win for four quarters. Um, you know, to
- 21:17Speaker 1: help me get to this point, and um, all the
- 21:20Speaker 1: guys in the locker room got my back. They've we've
- 21:22Speaker 1: all grown together, so um we're ready for what's ahead.
- 21:27Speaker 1: Very interesting way to TEPU A question. Welcome to the playoffs,
- 21:31Speaker 1: Steve White, welcome as well, live in Santa Clara. See
- 21:34Speaker 1: if we had Tayshaun Gibsons into the chair a couple
- 21:36Speaker 1: of the minutes ago, and he pointed out the difference
- 21:40Speaker 1: between back in September when these two teams met, specifically,
- 21:44Speaker 1: Kenneth Walker the Third another rookie. Well, absolutely, Keth Walking
- 21:50Speaker 1: the Third, like brock Purty, is surging at the end
- 21:53Speaker 1: of the season. His last three games, he's gone from
- 21:56Speaker 1: more than one hundred yards a game and he's done
- 21:59Speaker 1: it on seventy eight carries no fewer than twenty three
- 22:02Speaker 1: in any of those three games. So he is their
- 22:04Speaker 1: workhorse who gets stronger as the game goes along. So
- 22:07Speaker 1: I talked to Guard Gave Jackson about Walkers kind of
- 22:11Speaker 1: surging right now, and he said, look, it's part of
- 22:14Speaker 1: the experience, but he's so tough and physically gifted, but
- 22:17Speaker 1: he said, it's mainly trust. So the game is slowing
- 22:20Speaker 1: down for him now, but he's seeing how the offensive
- 22:22Speaker 1: line is setting up blocks, he's reading blocks, and then
- 22:26Speaker 1: he says, if nothing's there, he's gonna make something happen,
- 22:29Speaker 1: either with his power or his shake. Now, the thing
- 22:32Speaker 1: is they're playing a Niners defense tops in the NFL
- 22:35Speaker 1: and run defense, and they really haven't allowed Seattle to
- 22:38Speaker 1: get anything going on the ground in these first two games.
- 22:41Speaker 1: But as the cliche is, and as both teams are saying,
- 22:44Speaker 1: those first two games don't have anything to do with
- 22:46Speaker 1: this woman, no, but the rain may have a lot
- 22:49Speaker 1: to do with the fact that you're gonna have to
- 22:50Speaker 1: run the football to win this game. And Elijah Mitchell
- 22:54Speaker 1: coming back last week is huge. It is huge now.
- 22:59Speaker 1: Elijah Mitchell. The Niners speaking the prior to games have
- 23:02Speaker 1: run for three hundred and fifty nine yards against Seattle
- 23:05Speaker 1: this year. They've gashed them. But again that you talked
- 23:08Speaker 1: about the weather conditions, it's gonna be rainy, potentially sloppy
- 23:11Speaker 1: on this field in those two prior games. Elijah Mitchell,
- 23:14Speaker 1: the Niners Week one starter who's missed most of the
- 23:18Speaker 1: season with a niche brain. He hasn't played against Seattle.
- 23:22Speaker 1: He is back, and Chris Florster, the run game coordinator, said,
- 23:26Speaker 1: having him back and the combination of him McCaffrey is
- 23:29Speaker 1: fantastic because Christian McCaffrey, as you know, fast, versatile, and
- 23:33Speaker 1: Elijah Mitchell is fast and powerful. He finishes runs more
- 23:36Speaker 1: powerfully than just about any back in the NFL. To
- 23:39Speaker 1: what that allows the Niners to do is to not
- 23:42Speaker 1: only use different personnel sets and different running plans, but
- 23:45Speaker 1: to use both of those guys and some of their
- 23:47Speaker 1: other running backs on different parts of the field. And
- 23:52Speaker 1: so having Elijah Mitchell back again to punish a lot
- 23:55Speaker 1: of times you see him now in the second half
- 23:56Speaker 1: of games, to punish after McCaffrey's kind of season things
- 24:00Speaker 1: up with more of the finesse game could give them
- 24:02Speaker 1: more options and that's been a huge part to what
- 24:05Speaker 1: their offense has done these past couple of weeks. And
- 24:07Speaker 1: maybe this offense looks like the one that they rode
- 24:09Speaker 1: to the Super Bowl in January. In January where Jimmy
- 24:13Speaker 1: Garoppolo was not allowed to throw a pass and all
- 24:16Speaker 1: they did is run and run and run and run,
- 24:18Speaker 1: which they might do Saturday. Thank you. Steve White's there
- 24:21Speaker 1: in Santa clar ahead of the storm coming on Saturday.
- 24:26Speaker 1: Coming up next, we're going indoors, no rain in Minneapolis.
- 24:31Speaker 1: Can the Vikings find a way to protect Kirk Cousins
- 24:34Speaker 1: this week when the pluck kick up the bone running,
- 24:43Speaker 1: you're watching NFL Now, NFL Network. You're looking at Justin
- 24:45Speaker 1: Jefferson with a double digit catch performance against the Giants
- 24:49Speaker 1: Week sixteen. Everybody got involved, including t J. Hockenson. It's
- 24:53Speaker 1: these same two teams in a playoff rematch on Super
- 24:56Speaker 1: wild Card weekend in a building in which the Vikings
- 24:59Speaker 1: when eight one this year. I think playoffs all bring
- 25:05Speaker 1: an excitement that's just great to have, you know. I
- 25:08Speaker 1: think that intensity and and that sense of urgency is
- 25:11Speaker 1: what makes the playoffs fun. And it's kind of a
- 25:14Speaker 1: fun challenge to uh to know that, um, it's winner,
- 25:17Speaker 1: go home. I think there's a competitive thrill there if
- 25:23Speaker 1: you will. That's that's fun about that that um you know,
- 25:25Speaker 1: you you play your work, You go back to April, May,
- 25:29Speaker 1: June and August and and the whole season really to
- 25:33Speaker 1: get to this opportunity, and they're gonna get it in
- 25:36Speaker 1: front of their home fans. James Palmer Mark Ross back
- 25:39Speaker 1: with me. When they did play Week sixteen, the Giants
- 25:41Speaker 1: put more pressure James on Kirk Cousins than any team
- 25:44Speaker 1: had done nineteen pressures the entire season. That's a tall
- 25:47Speaker 1: task for a banged up offensive line. This week, it
- 25:51Speaker 1: really is. We were watching that little highlight before we
- 25:53Speaker 1: heard kirk Cousins talking about he was throwing some darts
- 25:55Speaker 1: out there, but he was also getting hit on almost
- 25:57Speaker 1: every one of them. He was sacked four times in
- 26:00Speaker 1: that game, as you mentioned the pressures, Andrews also hit
- 26:02Speaker 1: eleven times. Now they're trying to piece together this offensive
- 26:05Speaker 1: line to where he's not under that pressure again in
- 26:08Speaker 1: this game. They're hoping to get Garrett Bradberry back at
- 26:11Speaker 1: the center position. They had a pretty spirited practice yesterday.
- 26:14Speaker 1: To my understanding, he came out of that looking pretty
- 26:15Speaker 1: good in the eyes of the coaching staff with that
- 26:17Speaker 1: lower backstrain, hoping he can go. We know they don't
- 26:21Speaker 1: have Brian O'Neill at the right tackle spot. He's done
- 26:23Speaker 1: for the season, and they're hoping that they're not having
- 26:25Speaker 1: to play a third string right tackle over there like
- 26:28Speaker 1: they have in the past. So what the biggest aspect
- 26:30Speaker 1: of protecting Kirk Cousins is is it's a priority to
- 26:33Speaker 1: Kevin O'Connell because of the way Cousins plays in a rhythm,
- 26:37Speaker 1: the way that he plays fast and free with his
- 26:39Speaker 1: decision making when he is able to be protected because Mark,
- 26:42Speaker 1: that's extremely important. By the way, we know, this offense
- 26:45Speaker 1: is designed to where there's not just routes for just
- 26:47Speaker 1: one guy, play designs for just one player, even though
- 26:50Speaker 1: a lot of them they want Jefferson to be open on.
- 26:53Speaker 1: He has to make a lot of decisions and if
- 26:54Speaker 1: he's under pressure during a lot of them, it makes
- 26:56Speaker 1: it a little bit more complicated, and so we'll see
- 26:59Speaker 1: a type of pressure he is under. We know that
- 27:00Speaker 1: they blitz so much more than really anybody else in
- 27:03Speaker 1: all football. The Giants do well see if they can
- 27:05Speaker 1: protect Kirk Cousins with this offensive line, because it really
- 27:08Speaker 1: changes the way this offense opera the last four years.
- 27:12Speaker 1: The six seed is seven and one, Mark Ross wild
- 27:14Speaker 1: Card weekend. Are the Giants gonna upset the Vikings? Yes
- 27:19Speaker 1: they are, Andrew, this is the one that sweet spot
- 27:21Speaker 1: almost like March Madness. You know, that's twelve five seed
- 27:25Speaker 1: and that twelve is gonna win this six three seed
- 27:27Speaker 1: in the NFL playoffs. As you mentioned, eight in the
- 27:30Speaker 1: last nine years to a sixth seed has won and
- 27:33Speaker 1: the Giants, so historically they've got that in their favorite
- 27:36Speaker 1: but specifically in this game. James mentioned about the defense,
- 27:39Speaker 1: how well the Giants defense played in the first game. Well,
- 27:42Speaker 1: I thought it was the best offensive performance by the
- 27:45Speaker 1: Giants offense total yards. They just kept beating themselves. Daniel
- 27:50Speaker 1: Jones threw a bad interception, Daniel Bellinger fumbled the ball,
- 27:53Speaker 1: and they had that block punt, so that's what really
- 27:56Speaker 1: hurt the Giants. And still it was just that sixty
- 27:59Speaker 1: one yard field goal it's time expired that beat them.
- 28:02Speaker 1: So I think they have a lot of confidence going
- 28:04Speaker 1: to this game against them Ansota that yes, we can
- 28:06Speaker 1: roll on offense, our defense can get pressure, we just
- 28:09Speaker 1: cannot beat ourselves, which has been the formula all season
- 28:12Speaker 1: for the Giants and their wins of playing mistake free
- 28:14Speaker 1: football and opportune moments coming through. So I would expect
- 28:18Speaker 1: more of the same. And y g another six seed
- 28:21Speaker 1: beating a three seed. Andrew, Okay, hey Vikings Social team
- 28:24Speaker 1: used take two there. Okay, you're slipping it anyway, Andrew,
- 28:28Speaker 1: you're just getting somebody upset. I'm also with you. I
- 28:32Speaker 1: think the Giants can pull this off. Thank you Mark,
- 28:34Speaker 1: and thank you James. It is one of six games
- 28:38Speaker 1: on Super wild Card weekend. The Giants and the Vikings,
- 28:41Speaker 1: a rematch from weeks sixteen, is at four thirty Eastern time,
- 28:46Speaker 1: the second game on Fox. It is immediately following the
- 28:51Speaker 1: Bills and the Dolphins in Orchard Park. They split this year,
- 28:57Speaker 1: Judy in the regular season. What's the biggest challenge for
- 29:00Speaker 1: the Bills this week? Frankly, I think it's keeping an
- 29:04Speaker 1: even heel. There's been so much going on around the Bills,
- 29:08Speaker 1: and they weathered the emotional storm last week, of course
- 29:11Speaker 1: with Damar Hamlin and his incredible recovery um. But now
- 29:15Speaker 1: they've got to get back up and play the way
- 29:17Speaker 1: they can play. But they also know that they are
- 29:20Speaker 1: playing a very diminished team. The Miami Dolphins scored ten
- 29:24Speaker 1: fewer points when ta is not playing, from twenty six
- 29:27Speaker 1: points per game to sixteen. Well, the Bills know that
- 29:30Speaker 1: the Bills have been executing very well. They're on a
- 29:33Speaker 1: seven game winning street, but they got to keep their
- 29:35Speaker 1: level now and they can't risk looking ahead either. Micah
- 29:39Speaker 1: Hyde has returned to practice. Everybody's really psyched about the
- 29:42Speaker 1: possibility of a Micah Hyde return for a potential divisional
- 29:45Speaker 1: round game and maybe another meeting with the Cincinnati Bengals.
- 29:48Speaker 1: But I think the biggest challenge for the Bills this week, Andrew,
- 29:52Speaker 1: is just maintaining their level and getting back to normal.
- 29:56Speaker 1: There have been so many highs and lows just in
- 29:59Speaker 1: the last ten days or so. They just have to
- 30:02Speaker 1: go out and execute a game plan and if so
- 30:06Speaker 1: and if they do it, then they would advance as
- 30:09Speaker 1: the two seed in the a f C. Thank you,
- 30:12Speaker 1: Judy Batista. This is NFL now on NFL Network, and
- 30:15Speaker 1: we have some sad news to pass along. We lost
- 30:17Speaker 1: Charles White yesterday. The former Ram, the former Brown, the
- 30:21Speaker 1: former Trojan, and the former Heisman Trophy winner in nineteen
- 30:25Speaker 1: seventy nine. A member of the College Football Hall of Fame.
- 30:27Speaker 1: Still to this day, Charles White is USC's all time
- 30:31Speaker 1: leading rusher with over sixty two hundred yards, just a
- 30:35Speaker 1: mind blowing number. He was a first round pick of
- 30:37Speaker 1: the Browns and then eventually made his way back to
- 30:40Speaker 1: l A to join the Rams. Were in eight five.
- 30:43Speaker 1: He reunited with John Robinson, his coach for mESC and
- 30:46Speaker 1: Charles White led the NFL and carries and yards and
- 30:49Speaker 1: rushing touchdowns as tough as they come. Charles White is
- 30:54Speaker 1: survived by his ex wife, by five children, and by
- 30:57Speaker 1: a granddaughter. He was sixty four years old. NFL Now
