• 0:04
Speaker 2: It's Thursday, so you know what, Anne just chirping away.
• 0:08
Speaker 2: My foot is healing from my foot surgery. My laser
• 0:11
Speaker 2: is healing from my laser. Everything's healing. I'm healing. I'm
• 0:16
Speaker 2: in my hyperbary chamber.
• 0:18
Speaker 3: I had my Mel Robbins podcast come out this week,
• 0:20
Speaker 3: which was awesome. I was a guest on her podcast,
• 0:23
Speaker 3: which was great. So I got so many beautiful dms
• 0:26
Speaker 3: in my messages, which I always love, and about our
• 0:30
  Speaker 3: podcast as well.
• 0:31
  Speaker 2: I'm gearing up.
• 0:32
Speaker 3: I have two shows in Westhampton September twenty first. It's
• 0:36
Speaker 3: now sold out, so I have tickets for September twenty second,
• 0:39
Speaker 3: So if you're in that area, come see me before
• 0:42
Speaker 3: I go on my next big tour. What else is happening.
• 0:47
Speaker 3: I had one of my Pupsi's visiting, Poopsie. Whoopsie was
• 0:50
Speaker 3: visiting for two weeks. That basically drove me off a cliff.
• 0:53
Speaker 3: Lots of lots of issues, lots of driving, lots of
• 0:58
Speaker 3: chauffeur ring, lots of being a stepfather.
• 1:01
Speaker 2: Yeah exactly, So that was that. Well, you're looking fresh faced.
• 1:06
Speaker 1: I feel like you're relaxed because you've been like kind
• 1:08
Speaker 1: of offer a little bit, so that's really nice.
• 1:11
  Speaker 4: I have.
• 1:11
Speaker 3: I've been in LA for four straight weeks, which is
• 1:13
Speaker 3: you know, not something that is yes, And my new
• 1:16
Speaker 3: move and date to my house, everybody pay attention is
• 1:18
  Speaker 3: August twenty second.
• 1:20
Speaker 2: Let's see if this happens. Let's see.
• 1:22
Speaker 1: All right, I'm putting money on it this time. That
• 1:24
Speaker 1: might be a foolish decision, but I'm going to.
• 1:27
Speaker 2: Okay, Well, thank you. I appreciate that. And we have
• 1:29
Speaker 2: some exciting guests coming up in the next few weeks,
• 1:31
Speaker 2: so I've been reading lots of books to prepare. Yes.
• 1:34
Speaker 3: Our guest today, though, is an Olympic medalist in figure skating.
• 1:38
Speaker 3: Figure skating is one of my favorite pastimes, as we
• 1:41
Speaker 3: all know, because of my coordination.
• 1:43
Speaker 2: So our guest Today's Olympic medal is in figure skating.
• 1:45
Speaker 3: He's an author, actor in TV personality and host of
• 1:49
Speaker 3: the podcast Intrusive Thoughts with Adam Rapon.
• 1:52
Speaker 2: Please welcome Adam Rapon.
• 1:55
Speaker 3: Okay, shall we close the door and begin great, I'd
• 1:59
Speaker 3: like to I'm chewing on food.
• 2:02
Speaker 2: We haven't done that yet, not today.
• 2:05
Speaker 3: We have a very special guest here today, and I
• 2:07
Speaker 3: who's someone I'm meeting for the very first time. I
• 2:09
Speaker 3: just want to go over a list a little bit
• 2:11
Speaker 3: some of your accomplishments. Okay, before I introduce you, Ada's
• 2:14
Speaker 3: Rippon Okay, twenty eighteen Olympic bronze medalist in figure skating.
• 2:18
Speaker 2: Okay, this is a team event.
• 2:20
Speaker 3: He was the first openly gay man to make a
• 2:22
Speaker 3: US Winter Olympics team and to win a medal, and
• 2:26
Speaker 3: he won Dancing with the Stars Season twenty six in
• 2:29
Speaker 3: twenty eighteen. You're one of Time magazine's most one hundred
• 2:32
Speaker 3: most influential people of twenty eighteen, and your profile was
• 2:36
Speaker 3: written by Cher. That's fucking cool. He is a vocal
• 2:39
Speaker 3: advocate for LGBTQ plus rights, including opposing Mike Pence leading
• 2:44
Speaker 3: the twenty eighteen Winter Olympics delegation That's another highlight campaign
• 2:48
Speaker 3: for Elizabeth Warren in twenty twenty two, and has been
• 2:50
Speaker 3: critical of the International Olympics Committee selection of host cities
• 2:54
Speaker 3: that have human rights violations. Okay, first question, which do
• 2:59
Speaker 3: you think is gay the Winter or Summer Olympics.
• 3:02
Speaker 2: I think this summer.
• 3:05
Speaker 5: Wish they were the gayer one, but I definitely think
• 3:07
Speaker 5: it's the Winter one.
• 3:09
Speaker 3: I think you're right, I think the winter is gays. Dude,
• 3:11
Speaker 3: Now tell me why do you say that.
• 3:13
Speaker 5: I think like inherently you're thinking like summer games naked gay,
• 3:19
Speaker 5: But when you really think about it, winter you always
• 3:23
Speaker 5: have to buy some sort of costume, right, whether it's
• 3:26
Speaker 5: like some sort of ski gear costume or whatever. And
• 3:30
Speaker 5: all of the winter sports are like most of them
• 3:32
Speaker 5: are like you have to go to the chalet.
• 3:35
  Speaker 2: Also there's ice.
• 3:36
Speaker 3: There's also there's a figure skating and ice dancing basically
• 3:41
Speaker 3: are happening, and that takes the cake. So whatever's happening
• 3:44
Speaker 3: in the summertime would have to quadruple down on its
• 3:47
Speaker 3: gayness to overtake that, you know what I mean, because
• 3:50
Speaker 3: that's like having a bullet ball and wiping out nine
• 3:52
Speaker 3: pins already. With ice dancing and figure skating, yeah, I mean,
• 3:56
Speaker 3: I'm saying them like they're two different things. But ice
• 3:58
Speaker 3: dancing is a part of figure skating kind of right, yes, yeah,
• 4:01
Speaker 3: oh yeah, I don't want to I don't want to denude.
• 4:04
Speaker 2: Figure skating or diminish figure skating, no d thing.
• 4:07
Speaker 5: And I'm sure the whole figure skating community now is
• 4:09
Speaker 5: grateful that you don't want to denude them.
• 4:11
Speaker 2: I don't want to denude them like a plant.
• 4:14
  Speaker 5: No.
• 4:15
Speaker 2: I also want to say that Adam was so nice
• 4:16
  Speaker 2: that he.
• 4:16
Speaker 3: Brought it not only donuts from Sidecar Donuts, he brought
• 4:19
Speaker 3: in gluten free donuts for us. I'm not even a
• 4:21
Speaker 3: donut person, and I've already down to half a one,
• 4:23
Speaker 3: a gluten free one.
• 4:24
  Speaker 2: They're amazing. I don't have a problem with gluten. I
• 4:26
Speaker 2: don't know what's going on. I'm having donuts and gluten
• 4:28
Speaker 2: free donuts. It's like a fucking double whoopsie doodle.
• 4:30
Speaker 3: And you brought me a condom from the Olympics. Yes, wow,
• 4:34
Speaker 3: I love that you think I used condoms.
• 4:36
Speaker 5: No, I didn't think that you did. I thought that
• 4:39
Speaker 5: you'd want that condom. Freight the Olympics as like a momento.
• 4:42
Speaker 3: How much sex is happening in Olympic village at the Olympics.
• 4:45
Speaker 5: Okay, So I think in the summer there is probably
• 4:49
Speaker 5: a lot more happening. Like it's like I said, hotter
• 4:52
Speaker 5: there there's more likenedity.
• 4:54
Speaker 3: I'm going to disagree with you because of the climate.
• 4:56
Speaker 3: When it's cold you need someone to snuggle with. There's
• 4:58
Speaker 3: more of an impetus for it. To take a lover
• 5:00
Speaker 3: in this summertime, it's like, fucking, we're hot, we're outside,
• 5:03
Speaker 3: there's men and women everywhere.
• 5:05
  Speaker 2: Why choose one.
• 5:07
Speaker 3: In the winter, I want to hunker That's what I
• 5:08
Speaker 3: want to hunker down with, like a mountain man.
• 5:10
  Speaker 2: Uh huh.
• 5:11
Speaker 5: I don't know if people when they go to the
• 5:13
Speaker 5: Olympics are like concerned about hunkering down, But if they were,
• 5:18
Speaker 5: I do think that your theory would kind of pan out.
• 5:21
Speaker 5: But when you're at the Olympics, so like now, because
• 5:24
Speaker 5: there have been Olympic villages in the past that have
• 5:26
Speaker 5: like completely like people went in, they left, and then
• 5:29
Speaker 5: it's like turned to rubble. And so now when the
• 5:31
Speaker 5: cities like present a plan, they need to show like
• 5:34
Speaker 5: what will the village become. So at the Olympics that
• 5:37
Speaker 5: I went to in Korea, it was all of these
• 5:40
Speaker 5: like condo buildings that had already been like bought. So
• 5:43
Speaker 5: I shared like a three bedroom condo with like five people.
• 5:47
Speaker 2: So how does that work with five people? Are you
• 5:50
Speaker 2: sharing beds with people? You were sharing rooms? So like
• 5:54
Speaker 2: two in fash room.
• 5:55
Speaker 3: Awful, But I guess that's part for the course, right
• 5:57
  Speaker 3: with the Olympics.
• 5:58
Speaker 5: Yeah, Well, and so they and then like everything's covered
• 6:00
Speaker 5: in plastic too, like no, like because it was somebody
• 6:03
Speaker 5: had already bought it, like that was the plan, Like
• 6:06
Speaker 5: this was going to be something.
• 6:08
Speaker 2: And is there what city?
• 6:09
Speaker 3: Like Okay, Salt Lake City and like say Whistler, Canada.
• 6:12
Speaker 3: Those were two great spots for the Olympics, right A
• 6:15
Speaker 3: Rio fucked it up big time, didn't they?
• 6:18
  Speaker 2: Yeah?
• 6:18
Speaker 3: I think I mean it was weren't they swimming and
• 6:20
Speaker 3: sewage and like that.
• 6:24
Speaker 2: Yeah, that was Paris too.
• 6:25
Speaker 5: There's a lot of sewage related summer incidents, I think.
• 6:29
Speaker 2: Yeah, a lot of sewage related swimming. Yeah, yeah, exactly.
• 6:33
Speaker 3: Now you've had a lot of success since the Olympics,
• 6:35
Speaker 3: and I think that there is a definite correlation or
• 6:38
Speaker 3: tell me if you think there is a correlation between
• 6:40
Speaker 3: being a figure skater and then being able to transition
• 6:44
Speaker 3: from that, because there's a lot of athletes that have
• 6:46
Speaker 3: trouble transitioning from their sport into the entertainment industry. But
• 6:49
Speaker 3: I feel like figure skaters, specifically gay male figure skaters,
• 6:54
  Speaker 3: have an advantage.
• 6:55
Speaker 2: It's almost like you the world is your oyster when
• 6:57
Speaker 2: you come out of that. Do you agree with that?
• 7:00
Speaker 5: I think like in the figure skating world, especially like
• 7:03
Speaker 5: if you're like a gay guy, when you're in there,
• 7:05
Speaker 5: there's a lot of like internalized homophobia within the sport.
• 7:10
Speaker 2: And it's gotten like so much better.
• 7:12
Speaker 5: But when I was like younger, it was like you
• 7:13
Speaker 5: just didn't want to be that because it was everything.
• 7:17
Speaker 5: Like every like father I say, like in quotes, would
• 7:19
Speaker 5: fear that their son would go in and they'd like
• 7:21
Speaker 5: turn gay, which is but do you?
• 7:25
Speaker 3: Yeah, but don't you become gay before you become a
• 7:27
  Speaker 3: male figure skater.
• 7:28
Speaker 2: I understand that not every male figure skater is gay.
• 7:30
Speaker 3: I understand, yes, but you don't become gay by doing
• 7:34
Speaker 3: a sport, just like you don't become trans by hanging
• 7:36
Speaker 3: out with someone who is trans.
• 7:38
Speaker 2: No, so what comes first? The chicken or gay is gay?
• 7:42
Speaker 2: Or the ice gate the gay? The gay? Yeah, because
• 7:45
Speaker 2: you don't become gay.
• 7:46
Speaker 5: I was like, because gay, Yes, I was already become right.
• 7:51
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 7:51
Speaker 5: So I think like being an athlete sets you up
• 7:56
Speaker 5: to I think have like a work ethic that not
• 7:59
Speaker 5: a lot of people do have. I think like maybe
• 8:02
Speaker 5: ninety percent of the people that I've met I think
• 8:04
  Speaker 5: are so lazy.
• 8:05
  Speaker 3: But I like what you're saying because You're right, there's
• 8:07
Speaker 3: a level of professionalism that if you're going to devote
• 8:10
Speaker 3: yourself to a sport at that level, you're going to
• 8:13
Speaker 3: be able to succeed at other things. Which is interesting
• 8:16
Speaker 3: because you know, I just watched that video of Mary
• 8:18
Speaker 3: lou rettin getting a dui, you know, and like her
• 8:22
Speaker 3: sobriety walk, and I was just like, what happens to
• 8:25
Speaker 3: some of these athletes that aren't able to parlay it
• 8:28
Speaker 3: into I mean, and we know what happens that happens,
• 8:30
Speaker 3: you know what I mean that aren't able to parlay
• 8:32
Speaker 3: it because you are giving You're gifted with the first
• 8:35
Speaker 3: batch of ingredients that is required to make a successful person,
• 8:39
Speaker 3: which is work ethic.
• 8:40
  Speaker 2: Yeah right.
• 8:42
  Speaker 5: I think like I was very good, but I wasn't
• 8:45
Speaker 5: like the best, and I think people who were the best,
• 8:49
Speaker 5: it's very hard for them to pivot into something else
• 8:53
Speaker 5: because I've felt that, like, Okay, I'm starting like at
• 8:57
Speaker 5: zero now having to work my way up, and I
• 8:59
Speaker 5: know how much time and energy it took to be
• 9:03
Speaker 5: very good at what I did in my last career,
• 9:06
Speaker 5: and I think some people are intimidated by that, like workload.
• 9:10
Speaker 5: But I told you before we recorded the podcast that
• 9:13
Speaker 5: I had just read your book, and I feel like
• 9:16
Speaker 5: I really see eye to eye with you in the
• 9:18
Speaker 5: way that well, one, we're both one of six kids.
• 9:21
Speaker 2: What number are you one? Oh? Ay, exactly, Well we're booked,
• 9:25
  Speaker 2: we bookend. Yeah.
• 9:26
Speaker 5: But I think that, like, uh, when I was reading
• 9:30
Speaker 5: your book, that you put yourself in so many like
• 9:32
Speaker 5: independent situations of like you know, moving across country when
• 9:36
Speaker 5: you were really young and not as a typical like oldest.
• 9:40
Speaker 5: My mom was really willing, like when I was training,
• 9:42
Speaker 5: to put me in like situations that like now, I'm like,
• 9:45
Speaker 5: those were dangerous, but they helped me grow up really quickly, right,
• 9:51
Speaker 5: And I think that that also helped me because I
• 9:53
Speaker 5: wasn't afraid because my mom didn't seem afraid putting me
• 9:56
Speaker 5: in those situations, even though she must have been.
• 9:59
Speaker 2: But or maybe she wasn't.
• 10:01
Speaker 3: Maybe she wasn't thinking like that, and maybe she was thinking,
• 10:03
Speaker 3: that's the necessary step in order for you to achieve
• 10:07
Speaker 3: your goals is to be put in those situations, like
• 10:09
Speaker 3: it's a means for you to get seen by the
• 10:11
Speaker 3: right people or the training. I mean, what kind of
• 10:13
Speaker 3: situations are you talking about? I mean it was all
• 10:15
Speaker 3: related to ice skating right.
• 10:17
Speaker 5: Like, you know, when I was like young, like twelve thirteen,
• 10:19
Speaker 5: I was like always taking the Greyhound bus from Scranton
• 10:22
Speaker 5: into like Philadelphia, like every Monday, Philly back to Scranton
• 10:27
Speaker 5: Friday night. And I think like just being a young
• 10:32
Speaker 5: person and having that level of like responsibility and just
• 10:35
Speaker 5: like if you didn't know, you asked questions, and that
• 10:40
Speaker 5: helped me, especially like pivoting into like an entertainment career
• 10:44
  Speaker 5: where it's like I don't know a lot of stuff,
• 10:45
Speaker 5: and so I've had to ask a lot of questions.
• 10:47
Speaker 5: But I'm not embarrassed to not know. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
• 10:53
  Speaker 5: yeah yeah.
• 10:55
Speaker 3: Your podcast, The run Through, you talk a lot about
• 10:58
Speaker 3: the world of figure skating. What you think are the
• 11:01
Speaker 3: biggest like dramas that are going on in sports right now,
• 11:04
Speaker 3: whether it's figure skipping, well, in your sport, let's start
• 11:07
  Speaker 3: with your sport.
• 11:08
Speaker 5: Well, you know what I think like a big thing
• 11:10
Speaker 5: that's like happening now, is that, especially after like the
• 11:13
Speaker 5: big like gymnastics scandal of like with Larry Nassar and
• 11:17
Speaker 5: the abuse that was going on in there, that there's
• 11:20
Speaker 5: like a reckoning of things that we thought were normal
• 11:24
Speaker 5: and the way that like we were treated when we
• 11:25
Speaker 5: were younger. It's like a real balance of like you
• 11:29
Speaker 5: don't need to do these like destructive things to kids
• 11:33
Speaker 5: to make them be performsful, right, And you know that's
• 11:38
Speaker 5: like more on like a serious note, but on the
• 11:40
Speaker 5: run through, Like it's the off season right now, so
• 11:43
Speaker 5: we're going through different like lore things that have happened
• 11:46
Speaker 5: in skating that are like amazing and like very entertaining.
• 11:50
Speaker 5: And there's the story of this like ice dance team.
• 11:54
Speaker 5: It's like in the nineties, like this is the real
• 11:56
Speaker 5: golden age of like amazing, incredible drama. So it's like
• 12:00
Speaker 5: the nineties Soviet Union. Yeah, oh done right, it's gone.
• 12:05
Speaker 5: So where the natural place to go is, obviously, say
• 12:09
Speaker 5: it together, Lake Placid. So there's a big fleet of
• 12:12
Speaker 5: Russians that go to Lake Placid, fleet of Russians and
• 12:16
Speaker 5: so it's like this whole like dance camp. So there's
• 12:20
Speaker 5: this one couple and they're like the most you have
• 12:23
  Speaker 5: a question.
• 12:23
Speaker 3: I was just gonna I was wondering why Russians are
• 12:25
Speaker 3: so good at ice skating, and then I just realized
• 12:29
Speaker 3: that they live in the tundra.
• 12:30
  Speaker 2: Right, I mean, that's why there's nothing.
• 12:32
Speaker 3: Else going on but skating, and and if you want
• 12:36
Speaker 3: to get out of there, you better skate your ass off, right.
• 12:39
Speaker 3: That's how you're going to get out of Russia exactly
• 12:41
Speaker 3: is by ice skating, right, But actually not necessarily because
• 12:43
Speaker 3: a lot of those Russians, you know, whenever I watch
• 12:45
Speaker 3: the Olympics, this is this is how I feel like
• 12:46
  Speaker 3: everyone's always.
• 12:47
Speaker 2: Rooting for their own country.
• 12:48
Speaker 3: I'm always rooting for the Chines, Russians, and the Russian
• 12:51
Speaker 3: I am because I know if that they don't, if
• 12:52
Speaker 3: they don't fucking win, they're going to get their ass
• 12:54
Speaker 3: handed to them when they get back. I know that
• 12:56
Speaker 3: Chinese people and and Chinese coaches and the Russian I've
• 13:00
Speaker 3: got to be the worst coaches and then and then
• 13:02
Speaker 3: they have to take the shit from their country too.
• 13:04
Speaker 3: And their whole culture is not supportive of what we're
• 13:07
Speaker 3: talking about in modernizing athletics, you know what I mean?
• 13:10
Speaker 2: Yeah, sport, they're not.
• 13:11
Speaker 3: There yet, and they're probably not going to get there
• 13:13
Speaker 3: while we're still alive.
• 13:15
Speaker 5: No, I would say that, like definitely, like culturally at least,
• 13:19
  Speaker 5: I don't. I can't speak for the Chinese, but they can't.
• 13:23
  Speaker 5: I can't. No, I actually can't legally I can. I've
• 13:26
Speaker 5: been asked not to. But the Russians I can definitely
• 13:29
Speaker 5: say that, like are like twenty years behind behind.
• 13:32
Speaker 2: That's it, only twenty years, I would say, only twenty Yeah, twenty.
• 13:37
Speaker 3: Okay, great, that's good to know. That's not as dark
• 13:40
Speaker 3: as I would think. I would think it's more like
• 13:42
  Speaker 3: forty five.
• 13:43
Speaker 5: I would say, probably in the last like because of
• 13:45
Speaker 5: like what's going on over there now, they've probably fallen
• 13:48
Speaker 5: back and they're like five or ten because there's still
• 13:51
Speaker 5: like some coaches, like, you know, flirting with their fourteen
• 13:54
  Speaker 5: year old students.
• 13:55
Speaker 2: Right, and of course Celine Dion's always going to happen,
• 13:58
Speaker 2: you know, of course. So you go to back to
• 14:00
  Speaker 2: Lake Placid.
• 14:01
Speaker 5: Yes, okay, So there's two couples there, right, There's one
• 14:04
Speaker 5: that's like a favorite for gold, and then there's another
• 14:06
Speaker 5: one who's like younger.
• 14:07
  Speaker 2: Okay.
• 14:09
Speaker 5: So the one the favorite for gold married okay, married
• 14:13
  Speaker 5: young how young?
• 14:15
Speaker 2: Twenties nineteen twenties, early twenties.
• 14:18
Speaker 5: The other couple they're not together, okay, But the female
• 14:22
Speaker 5: from this couple starts to have an affair with the
• 14:25
Speaker 5: man from the married couple.
• 14:27
Speaker 2: Oh okayle situation no, oh.
• 14:30
Speaker 5: Like she doesn't know. He's like going behind her back.
• 14:33
Speaker 5: In Lake Placid, there's nothing else to do there. Skate train, affair.
• 14:37
Speaker 5: Those are the only three things you can do in
• 14:39
Speaker 5: Lake Placid. You could fuck the lake. It's zen, I
• 14:43
Speaker 5: mean that would be fun. Cdrilla Hall through the lake
• 14:45
Speaker 5: and fuck it. Yes, four things you can do in
• 14:48
Speaker 5: like fuck the lake and the first three. So they're
• 14:52
Speaker 5: in this affair and the number one couple.
• 14:56
Speaker 2: She doesn't know that it's happening.
• 14:57
Speaker 5: So they go to the Olympics together and for good luck,
• 15:01
Speaker 5: the man who's having the affair gives his affair partner
• 15:06
Speaker 5: his girlfriend his wedding ring for good luck, which she
• 15:10
Speaker 5: wears on a necklace through the first two segments of
• 15:14
  Speaker 5: the entire competition.
• 15:16
Speaker 2: So then she finds out. The wife finds out, and
• 15:19
  Speaker 2: she's like right.
• 15:21
Speaker 5: Because she's like, aha, has the ring like dangling, like
• 15:24
Speaker 5: knocking the collar bones. So she finds out, she you know,
• 15:29
Speaker 5: gives the ring back like whatever. So she's just hoping,
• 15:31
Speaker 5: like the affair stops. Then they go on tour and
• 15:35
Speaker 5: she's hoping it's not happening. They're all on the same tour.
• 15:37
Speaker 5: The affair is like very in her face at this point.
• 15:41
Speaker 5: And so while they're on tour, they're in Los Angeles
• 15:43
Speaker 5: and they go to Spago and at Spago she sees
• 15:47
Speaker 5: the number one team. She sees her husband at the
• 15:50
Speaker 5: bar at Spago with her name is Oxana.
• 15:54
Speaker 3: Of course there's only two yes and those she chose
• 16:01
Speaker 3: the h three yeah, and fuck the lake.
• 16:02
Speaker 5: Those are the four things. So she's at the bar.
• 16:06
Speaker 5: So the wife goes over and she takes the back
• 16:09
Speaker 5: of her head and she's max it onto the bar.
• 16:14
Speaker 2: Okay, she should have done that on the frozen lake.
• 16:17
Speaker 2: First of all, she should have done that at the Olympics.
• 16:20
Speaker 3: She should have done that on Lake Blas said when
• 16:21
Speaker 3: she had the first opportunity. But okay, fine, she didn't
• 16:24
Speaker 3: know what she knows now exactly.
• 16:26
Speaker 5: Now she knows the addressed to Spago, and she knows
• 16:28
Speaker 5: that they're having an affair in public. So this is
• 16:31
Speaker 5: like the nineties, but this was like they covered this
• 16:33
Speaker 5: like on TV and so like this was like amazing,
• 16:37
Speaker 5: Like these were the pieces that.
• 16:38
Speaker 2: We were watching when you're watching the Olympics.
• 16:41
Speaker 5: So this is like the Golden Age and this Oxana
• 16:43
Speaker 5: is like she eventually, so there's another Oxana in nineteen
• 16:47
  Speaker 5: ninety four Bayoul.
• 16:49
  Speaker 6: Yeah.
• 16:50
Speaker 5: Yeah, so like two three years after she wins gold,
• 16:54
Speaker 5: she gets a duy Akxana Bayola. Yes, and this other
• 16:57
Speaker 5: Oxana her name's Oxana Grieshook. She's won the Olympics in
• 17:01
Speaker 5: ninety four and she's still skating. So she's like has
• 17:04
Speaker 5: more titles in ice dance, right, this this same Axana
• 17:07
Speaker 5: who had her head smashed at Spago.
• 17:10
Speaker 3: Okay, so she's not with the guy anymore though, No,
• 17:13
Speaker 3: she's do over him.
• 17:14
  Speaker 2: She's moved on.
• 17:14
Speaker 5: Yes, she's moved on because the wife called her and said.
• 17:18
Speaker 2: Hey, get the fuck away from my husband.
• 17:20
Speaker 5: No, he's having an affair on you with some other
• 17:24
Speaker 5: younger girl at the rink.
• 17:25
Speaker 3: And her name is also Oksana Tatiyanakana, Olgana Olga and yes,
• 17:33
Speaker 3: okay for Russian female names.
• 17:35
Speaker 2: Yes, the only four.
• 17:38
Speaker 5: So she's like, okay, that's fucked up, and she now
• 17:44
Speaker 5: is like successful. I told you about this other Oxana
• 17:47
Speaker 5: that's you know, Oxana Bayoul do u I okay? So
• 17:52
Speaker 5: this Oxana Grishuk, the ice dancer. She wants to go
• 17:57
Speaker 5: into Hollywood and you know she's from the Soviet Union.
• 18:00
  Speaker 5: She's in like Placid. I think she's watching a lot
• 18:02
Speaker 5: of MTV haircut, bleach, blonde, Bindi. She looks like when
• 18:08
Speaker 5: Sefani lots of MTV going on, okay, and she wants.
• 18:13
Speaker 2: To be like a Hollywood star.
• 18:14
Speaker 5: But she's upset because you know there's she's Oxana, but
• 18:18
Speaker 5: everyone's getting her confused with the other.
• 18:21
  Speaker 3: He's already who's a success and has notoriety in a
• 18:24
Speaker 3: different way now too, Yes and thunder so to speak.
• 18:28
  Speaker 2: Yes.
• 18:29
Speaker 5: So she gives this interview where and like I said,
• 18:32
Speaker 5: this is the golden age of figure skating drama. So
• 18:37
Speaker 5: she gives this interview and she's like, I've legally changed
• 18:40
Speaker 5: my name to Pasha because my name should be reflective
• 18:44
Speaker 5: of who I am, and I don't want to be
• 18:47
Speaker 5: confused with Oxana Bayule because she's a fat hasband and
• 18:52
  Speaker 5: a criminal.
• 18:55
Speaker 2: Well does it get any better? No?
• 18:58
Speaker 1: Well, and we have a sixth name too, Pasha Pasha.
• 19:02
Speaker 2: So is Aksana Bayul a criminal?
• 19:05
Speaker 5: Well no, but she just called her a criminal, yeah,
• 19:08
Speaker 5: because she had a dui.
• 19:09
Speaker 3: But that's not a criminal. If your name, I mean,
• 19:11
Speaker 3: if you've been arrested. A criminal is somebody who like
• 19:14
  Speaker 3: that's not a it's it's a crime. But would you
• 19:16
Speaker 3: call someone who gets a DUI a criminal?
• 19:18
  Speaker 6: No?
• 19:19
  Speaker 2: I mean, I guess, I think.
• 19:21
Speaker 3: I mean, of course I get it, I get it,
• 19:24
Speaker 3: but I just want to make sure, like I've had
• 19:26
  Speaker 3: a DUI?
• 19:26
  Speaker 2: Am I a criminal? No? I think it's been You're
• 19:29
  Speaker 2: not attacks like.
• 19:31
Speaker 5: That was another key that we all will be right.
• 19:34
Speaker 5: But she wasn't even there yet, like the metals still warm, right,
• 19:38
Speaker 5: you know, because it's just been a few years. If
• 19:39
Speaker 5: that has been, I mean, that's really the mud slinging.
• 19:43
Speaker 2: Was they don't do that anymore. That sounds glorious.
• 19:46
Speaker 3: It was What about Share writing your profile for your
• 19:49
Speaker 3: time one hundred most influential?
• 19:51
Speaker 2: How did that happen? Did you be Chair? Have you
• 19:53
Speaker 2: met Shair? I have met Chair.
• 19:55
Speaker 5: I had no idea I was going to be on
• 19:58
Speaker 5: that one hundred most Influential People of twenty eighteen and
• 20:03
Speaker 5: I found out and then I found out that Share
• 20:07
Speaker 5: had written my write up.
• 20:09
Speaker 2: When I got the magazine.
• 20:11
Speaker 5: I had no idea, and I obviously, like, you read
• 20:15
Speaker 5: it and you're like, this can't be like the Share
• 20:17
Speaker 5: And it was the Share.
• 20:19
Speaker 3: That's weird because I was on that list once and
• 20:21
Speaker 3: I could have sworn they asked me who I wanted
• 20:23
  Speaker 3: to write mine?
• 20:24
Speaker 2: Yeah, but you're like famous. Oh you think they tell
• 20:27
Speaker 2: some of the people and not the rest of the people.
• 20:29
Speaker 3: Right, But I mean to get Share to write it,
• 20:31
Speaker 3: that means somebody had to go out on your behalf
• 20:33
Speaker 3: and ask Share to write it. And she would have
• 20:34
Speaker 3: had to have been a fan. Why she's just going
• 20:36
Speaker 3: to write a random letter for somebody she doesn't know.
• 20:38
Speaker 2: I mean, you have a point. What was it like
• 20:40
Speaker 2: when you met Share?
• 20:41
Speaker 3: Because I've met Share before and I felt like I
• 20:43
Speaker 3: was dealing with a non real person.
• 20:46
Speaker 5: I felt like I was like Madame Tusson's like come alive.
• 20:49
Speaker 2: Yeah, it was like night at the Museum.
• 20:50
Speaker 3: I didn't want to take any more steps closer because
• 20:53
Speaker 3: I didn't know where it began and where it's like, Yeah,
• 20:56
Speaker 3: I was like the hair and the face it was
• 20:58
Speaker 3: she was we were in Vegas.
• 20:59
Speaker 2: It was bad stage up after her show in Vegas.
• 21:01
Speaker 3: This was so many years ago, and I remember just
• 21:04
Speaker 3: looking at her and thinking is it okay?
• 21:07
Speaker 2: Like is she okay? Is it okay?
• 21:09
Speaker 7: Where is it? Like?
• 21:10
Speaker 2: Does it? Do I touch her?
• 21:12
Speaker 5: It's very like it's abba hologram, because like a hologram
• 21:16
Speaker 5: in person, she looks like a hologram.
• 21:18
Speaker 2: Yes, And so somebody was like rushing.
• 21:20
Speaker 5: They're like, you have to meet Share, and so like
• 21:22
Speaker 5: they bring me over to her and she's like, you know,
• 21:25
Speaker 5: it's it was the premiere of like the Share show,
• 21:27
Speaker 5: like the Broadway play, and I'm like, hi, Share and
• 21:32
Speaker 5: there and she's like hello, like you know, she's one
• 21:34
Speaker 5: of the animatronics from like Chuck E Cheese, just like
• 21:37
Speaker 5: waving and then like I hear somebody whisper scream in
• 21:40
Speaker 5: her ear and they're like, it's the skater you wrote
• 21:43
Speaker 5: the piece about him, and she like lights up, and
• 21:45
Speaker 5: so I gave her a hug. And when I gave
• 21:46
Speaker 5: her a hug, I've never felt anybody so corseted, so tight, so.
• 21:51
Speaker 2: Wound up like a geisha like wound. Yes, I felt
• 21:55
Speaker 2: like one loose thread. Share would have been all on.
• 21:58
Speaker 1: The floor, like they'na say you felt the missing ribs
• 22:00
  Speaker 1: or something.
• 22:01
Speaker 2: I couldn't feel. She was hard to the touch, but
• 22:06
Speaker 2: she was very nice.
• 22:07
Speaker 3: Yeah, I can imagine that that would be something you
• 22:09
Speaker 3: have to wrap like a doll and then you put
• 22:12
Speaker 3: shoes on it and you're like take one foot forward,
• 22:14
Speaker 3: one step forward, because when you see her dancing, like
• 22:16
Speaker 3: just as recently as this last in the last few months,
• 22:18
Speaker 3: she was at some event and I was like, wow,
• 22:20
Speaker 3: Shares on stage wearing pantyhose and moving. I mean, you know,
• 22:26
Speaker 3: she's not doing triple soucals or anything, but she was
• 22:28
  Speaker 3: fucking moving.
• 22:29
Speaker 2: Yeah. And I'm like, I mean, she's moving more than
• 22:32
  Speaker 2: I can move.
• 22:32
Speaker 5: Right in this case, she's like getting fully decked the
• 22:35
Speaker 5: thing and she and.
• 22:36
Speaker 2: She's getting fucked or plucked, I should say, because.
• 22:39
Speaker 1: She's got that young boyfriend who's like thirty years old
• 22:41
Speaker 1: having a great time.
• 22:42
Speaker 3: Let me ask you a question about when you came
• 22:44
Speaker 3: out before, because you came out.
• 22:46
Speaker 2: Is it twenty sixteen, twenty eighteen? You came out twenty
• 22:49
Speaker 2: sixteen and then twenty eighteen were the Olympics.
• 22:50
  Speaker 5: Yes, So I actually I have a friend, her name's
• 22:53
Speaker 5: Ashley Wagner, and in like twenty fourteen, she was going
• 22:57
Speaker 5: to the Olympics in twenty fourteen, and they asked her
• 22:59
Speaker 5: and she was like very outspoken about how she didn't
• 23:03
Speaker 5: think Russia had come out with this like anti gaye
• 23:05
Speaker 5: propagandla and it's twenty fourteen. A lot has happened in
• 23:08
Speaker 5: the like last like eleven years of people speaking up
• 23:12
Speaker 5: and they ask every athlete about you know, what do
• 23:15
Speaker 5: they think about it? And everyone's like, well, you know,
• 23:17
Speaker 5: I'm not from there. Who am I to knock their
• 23:20
Speaker 5: traditions and whatever. And my friend Ashley was like super
• 23:23
Speaker 5: out spoken. She was like, it's fucked up. And I remember,
• 23:27
Speaker 5: like I had just come out of like the closet
• 23:29
Speaker 5: myself like a few years earlier, and I wasn't out
• 23:32
Speaker 5: like publicly or anything like that, and I was asked
• 23:36
Speaker 5: about it, and I kind of skirted around the question,
• 23:39
Speaker 5: and then eventually I didn't make that Olympic team, and
• 23:42
Speaker 5: I in the years leading up to the twenty eighteen
• 23:45
Speaker 5: Olympics was like, Okay, if I'm going to skate for
• 23:48
Speaker 5: more years, I'm going to do everything that I wish
• 23:50
Speaker 5: that I had done before. And I really regretted not
• 23:53
Speaker 5: saying anything. And so in twenty fifteen I decided to
• 23:56
Speaker 5: like come out publicly. You know, I have not an
• 24:00
Speaker 5: Olympian or like a national champion yet at all, like
• 24:03
Speaker 5: so nobody really cared. So it's like, okay, we know,
• 24:05
Speaker 5: like nobody cared. It was for me like personally, and
• 24:09
Speaker 5: so when I had already been out for like a
• 24:11
Speaker 5: few publicly for a few years, and then when I
• 24:14
Speaker 5: had made the Olympic team in twenty eighteen, that's when
• 24:16
Speaker 5: I found out. It was like, oh, you're the first
• 24:19
Speaker 5: openly gay American athlete.
• 24:22
Speaker 3: So you didn't do it with the intention of being
• 24:24
Speaker 3: the first openly gay no male figures.
• 24:27
Speaker 2: Possible that that would be the twenty eight Yeah.
• 24:30
Speaker 3: Yeah. Also like my question because I think it's I
• 24:34
Speaker 3: feel as a public figure that it is so important
• 24:37
Speaker 3: and this is people disagree with me all the time
• 24:40
Speaker 3: on it, but it's so important to be honest about
• 24:42
Speaker 3: who you are because you don't understand how many people
• 24:45
Speaker 3: you're helping. And that's not necessarily anyone's burden to carry,
• 24:48
Speaker 3: Like you don't have to be a public person. And
• 24:50
Speaker 3: then all of a sudden, like, yes, I have to
• 24:52
Speaker 3: come out with every secret. But it's like if you're
• 24:54
Speaker 3: if somebody, if you're part of a marginalized community and
• 24:57
Speaker 3: you have a huge platform, it's kind of like, I
• 25:00
Speaker 3: feel a personal responsibility to make sure that you are
• 25:03
Speaker 3: loud and outspoken about it for everybody coming after you.
• 25:06
Speaker 2: How do you feel about that?
• 25:08
Speaker 5: I feel that like well, as an athlete and when
• 25:11
Speaker 5: you go to the Olympics, it's like your time to
• 25:13
Speaker 5: share your story and who you are, and sometimes you
• 25:16
Speaker 5: just have a few minutes to do that during your performance,
• 25:19
Speaker 5: during your interviews. And if I wanted to like perform
• 25:22
Speaker 5: and I wanted people to connect with me, I it
• 25:25
Speaker 5: was incredibly important that they knew who I was and
• 25:28
Speaker 5: what I stood for and what was important to me.
• 25:31
Speaker 5: And one of those cases was, like, you know, when
• 25:33
Speaker 5: you're getting ready for the Olympics, there's this talk of
• 25:36
Speaker 5: like enjoy the experience as much as possible, and for me,
• 25:40
Speaker 5: I sat down and I thought, like, what does that
• 25:42
Speaker 5: even mean? And it meant that, like, listen, I'm going
• 25:46
Speaker 5: to go I'm going to skate great, I'm going to
• 25:47
Speaker 5: do everything I can to be in the best shape
• 25:49
Speaker 5: of my life. But I also want to enjoy myself
• 25:52
Speaker 5: and I love the entertainment stuff, like I love connecting
• 25:55
Speaker 5: with people, I love talking with people, I love making
• 25:58
Speaker 5: people laugh. And so that means that I'm going to
• 26:01
Speaker 5: go into and every interview and I'm going to act
• 26:04
Speaker 5: like they're my best friend, and I'm going to answer
• 26:07
Speaker 5: questions super honestly like I would if we were like
• 26:10
Speaker 5: at dinner and I got asked this one question of
• 26:13
Speaker 5: like what do you think of Mike Pence leading the
• 26:15
Speaker 5: athlete delegation? And I remember like giving that interview in
• 26:18
Speaker 5: my car at the rink, which is like in a
• 26:20
Speaker 5: strip mall. So it's like I'm sitting in my car
• 26:22
Speaker 5: at the Taco Bell light from like it's like pouring.
• 26:25
Speaker 2: I look beautiful, by the way, It's just like gorgeous.
• 26:27
Speaker 3: Beautiful right now, by the way. Yeah, your skin is
• 26:30
Speaker 3: what is the word for that? Alabaster? Yeah, alabaster.
• 26:34
Speaker 2: That is absolutely my like golf, Yes, of course it is. Well,
• 26:38
Speaker 2: you're reaching it. I mean you're ascending. Thank you. Wow,
• 26:42
Speaker 2: I'm off track now, I know, but try and stay focused, okay,
• 26:46
  Speaker 2: Taco Bell. Yeah.
• 26:48
Speaker 5: And I remember I was asked this question, and I
• 26:51
Speaker 5: remember thinking in that moment it was like just answer
• 26:54
Speaker 5: it honestly. And I answered it and was like, I
• 26:57
Speaker 5: don't think that he like stay ends up for like
• 27:00
Speaker 5: every athlete. I don't think he should be leading the
• 27:03
Speaker 5: athlete delegation. Somebody who was like a proponent of conversion
• 27:07
Speaker 5: therapy doesn't represent me. Somebody who thinks that I'm mentally
• 27:12
Speaker 5: unwell does not represent who I am. And I said it,
• 27:16
Speaker 5: and it was just like okay, great, like we move
• 27:18
Speaker 5: in and like how are you feeling? Like is the
• 27:20
Speaker 5: next question? And then like a few days later it
• 27:24
Speaker 5: was like okay, That's when I really felt like the
• 27:26
Speaker 5: momentum of like what I had said, because I was
• 27:28
Speaker 5: just like some nobody was not favorite for.
• 27:30
  Speaker 2: Gold or whatever.
• 27:31
Speaker 5: It's this old gay guy going to like the Olympics
• 27:34
Speaker 5: for the first time.
• 27:35
  Speaker 2: Who cares?
• 27:36
Speaker 5: And I remember, like I was, you know, we have
• 27:38
Speaker 5: all of our music like downloaded or for our programs
• 27:40
Speaker 5: on our phones, so like I would always put my
• 27:42
Speaker 5: phone on airplane mode when I was training so I
• 27:45
Speaker 5: could play my music and my mom wouldn't be like
• 27:47
Speaker 5: calling me in the middle of like wop yeah exactly
• 27:50
Speaker 5: exactly my famous routine just walked up. Yes, And so
• 27:54
Speaker 5: I turned my phone back on and I have like
• 27:56
Speaker 5: thirty missed calls, and I'm like, what's going on? So
• 28:01
Speaker 5: I find out I call my agent at the time,
• 28:03
Speaker 5: and he's like the Office of the Vice President wants
• 28:06
Speaker 5: to like they want to set up a meeting, and
• 28:09
Speaker 5: I'm like for what, And so you know, I've.
• 28:13
Speaker 2: Got a tutorial right to send me to camp? Yeah,
• 28:17
  Speaker 2: and so to.
• 28:18
Speaker 3: Take him to camp with you because I believe he's
• 28:22
  Speaker 3: gay too.
• 28:23
Speaker 2: I think he has a tendency. Can't be that homophobic
• 28:25
Speaker 2: unless you're gay, it doesn't make any sense.
• 28:26
Speaker 3: No, it's always the case. Yeah, I mean, I'm just
• 28:29
Speaker 3: dating always. I'm platitudinizing right now. It's always the case.
• 28:32
Speaker 2: It's always the case.
• 28:33
Speaker 5: So I was dealing with like the communications person at
• 28:36
Speaker 5: US Figure Skating as well, because they went to like
• 28:39
Speaker 5: the Olympic Committee who forwarded them to US Figure Skating,
• 28:41
Speaker 5: like our governing body. And she was this lesbian woman, Barb, obviously,
• 28:49
  Speaker 5: and she's like.
• 28:50
Speaker 2: So, kid, what are you going to do?
• 28:52
Speaker 5: And I said, Barb, tell Mike Pens to fuck himself,
• 28:56
Speaker 5: like I'm not gonna do this meeting, like I have
• 28:59
Speaker 5: to practice. And she's like, I'm not going to say
• 29:02
Speaker 5: it in those terms, but I love you. Hung up
• 29:05
Speaker 5: And so then that was that until I got to
• 29:08
Speaker 5: the Olympics, where like it had leaked that they had
• 29:10
Speaker 5: reached out and they tried to set up this meeting
• 29:14
Speaker 5: and I denied it, and then it became like a
• 29:16
Speaker 5: much bigger story once I had gotten there.
• 29:19
Speaker 2: Yeah, so then and did so you never ever had
• 29:22
Speaker 2: any interaction with him no, and I never will God willing.
• 29:26
  Speaker 2: Oh not.
• 29:27
Speaker 3: Well, he seems to be in the background right now.
• 29:29
Speaker 3: I'm surprised they haven't arrested him yet. It's shocking, isn't it.
• 29:32
Speaker 3: Actually it is shocking. Are you ready to take some callers.
• 29:35
Speaker 3: We're going to take a break and we're going to
• 29:36
Speaker 3: be right back with Adam Rippen. And then we're going
• 29:38
Speaker 3: to take some callers and we're back with Adam Rippin. Adam,
• 29:46
  Speaker 3: you're so delightful.
• 29:47
Speaker 2: I'm going to just double check pronunciation for your last name.
• 29:50
Speaker 2: As long as you say Adam Rippon, Rippin, it doesn't matter.
• 29:54
Speaker 3: Yes, we're going to take a break and we'll be
• 29:55
Speaker 3: right back with Adam Rippan.
• 29:57
Speaker 2: And we're back with Adam Rippan.
• 29:59
Speaker 5: You have to say your name right, it doesn't I
• 30:01
Speaker 5: feel like that part doesn't.
• 30:03
Speaker 2: I'm not a bunch of different Yeah, Adam Rippon is
• 30:05
Speaker 2: your name? Okay? Okay, thank you. Don't suck it up again.
• 30:08
  Speaker 2: I won't. Yeah, okay, So.
• 30:10
Speaker 5: Don't doesn't that make you wish that like I had
• 30:12
Speaker 5: a name that was like simpler. No, I don't feel
• 30:15
Speaker 5: any like connection to Ripon or rip In. Yeah, I
• 30:19
Speaker 5: feel like handler is so like rolls right off.
• 30:21
Speaker 2: The hand hand handler or hand job. Yeah, I wouldn't
• 30:26
  Speaker 2: mind hand jobs.
• 30:27
Speaker 3: You don't ever have to go handler like sometimes I
• 30:29
Speaker 3: have to enunciate handler really yeah, I think is I
• 30:32
Speaker 3: have a problem with d's and L handler?
• 30:36
  Speaker 7: Yeah?
• 30:36
Speaker 1: I guess you're right because handler handler sounds like you're
• 30:39
Speaker 1: missing with the D handler.
• 30:40
Speaker 5: Because I feel like if I saw rippon, i'd say
• 30:43
Speaker 5: rip in like it's not I'm not saying like baton
• 30:46
Speaker 5: for like button right.
• 30:47
Speaker 2: Like a aren't you saying baton? I am never mind
• 30:52
  Speaker 2: red handed. Yeah.
• 30:53
Speaker 1: Well, our first callers today are Jackie and Hope.
• 30:56
Speaker 2: Actually we need these on. Is it Jackie or Hope?
• 31:00
  Speaker 2: I mean's fun you'll see why.
• 31:03
Speaker 1: So Jackie is the one who wrote in and said,
• 31:05
Speaker 1: Dear Chelsea, My wife and I have been married for
• 31:08
Speaker 1: almost eleven years together for thirteen. Several months ago, my
• 31:11
Speaker 1: wife had a coworker who was very forthcoming in her attraction.
• 31:14
Speaker 2: To both of us.
• 31:16
  Speaker 7: It definitely threw.
• 31:16
Speaker 1: Us for a loop, considering that we've never considered ourselves
• 31:19
Speaker 1: the polytype or open to other partners.
• 31:21
Speaker 2: But we opened ourselves up to the idea.
• 31:23
Speaker 1: Things got a little weird and we decided to take
• 31:25
Speaker 1: some space and not talk. Fast forward six months later
• 31:28
Speaker 1: and we found ourselves all at better places in our lives,
• 31:31
Speaker 1: so we felt we could revisit the conversation. At first,
• 31:34
Speaker 1: we thought we'd just have some fun times in the
• 31:35
Speaker 1: bedroom and just be friends aside from that, but we
• 31:38
Speaker 1: quickly realized that we really liked her and started forming
• 31:41
Speaker 1: more of an emotional connection as well as a physical one.
• 31:44
Speaker 1: My wife is more used to sharing me, considering that
• 31:46
Speaker 1: when we started dating, I was a divorcee with three kids,
• 31:49
Speaker 1: and I was also dating another girl who was in
• 31:51
Speaker 1: a polyamorous marriage. Me, on the other hand, I've always
• 31:54
Speaker 1: had her all to myself and all of her attention,
• 31:57
Speaker 1: so as we move forward, I can tell that she
• 31:59
Speaker 1: isn't experience and seeing the same insecurities that I am.
• 32:02
Speaker 2: I also really like this girl.
• 32:03
Speaker 1: We connect on so many levels, and I feel myself
• 32:06
Speaker 1: missing her and wanting to spend more time together. But
• 32:08
Speaker 1: I also catch myself feeling a little jealous at times
• 32:10
Speaker 1: of their relationship. For the most part, we've spent most
• 32:12
Speaker 1: of our time together as a threesome, but it's the
• 32:15
Speaker 1: moments when they see each other or talk when I'm
• 32:16
Speaker 1: not around that I worry they'll form a stronger bond
• 32:19
Speaker 1: than my wife and I. I find myself getting annoyed
• 32:21
Speaker 1: with myself for not being able to just be as
• 32:23
Speaker 1: fluid as they are. And they're both doing everything right,
• 32:25
Speaker 1: saying the right things, showing the right amount of affection,
• 32:28
Speaker 1: and I really love the situation for the most part.
• 32:30
Speaker 1: It has absolutely enhanced our marriage with all of the
• 32:33
Speaker 1: communication and transparency required to even make such a scenario work.
• 32:36
Speaker 2: So why am I still.
• 32:37
Speaker 1: Having these feelings from time to time? I can imagine
• 32:40
Speaker 1: having this beautiful relationship together as a threaple, and I
• 32:42
Speaker 1: really want it all to work out, So any advice
• 32:44
Speaker 1: to get me out of my head and out of
• 32:46
Speaker 1: my own way would be amazing. Sincerely, CHECKI, Hi, Checky, Jackie, Jackie.
• 32:53
  Speaker 3: And Hope.
• 32:55
Speaker 2: Check Republic. I just have to say this about throubles.
• 32:59
Speaker 3: If you up for this situation and most of this
• 33:03
Speaker 3: I mean, first of all, you have to be okay
• 33:05
Speaker 3: with every aspect. I know that doesn't make it okay,
• 33:07
Speaker 3: but you have to have a conversation with yourself every
• 33:10
Speaker 3: time these feelings come up that you just said yourself
• 33:14
Speaker 3: in the letter that the good outweighs the bad, and
• 33:16
Speaker 3: it's just your insecurity, So for in order for you
• 33:19
Speaker 3: to say yes to this situation, it's almost like there's
• 33:21
Speaker 3: not really room for your insecurity because you can't extinguish
• 33:25
Speaker 3: your insecurity, but you can constantly just remind yourself that
• 33:29
Speaker 3: these are thoughts in your head.
• 33:30
Speaker 2: You have an understanding.
• 33:31
Speaker 3: You guys have an open understanding and arrangement, and it's
• 33:35
Speaker 3: almost like being with somebody and expecting them to cheat
• 33:38
Speaker 3: on you every single time you're not with them.
• 33:40
Speaker 2: What's the point of that.
• 33:42
Speaker 3: You've already said yes to this situation, so you really
• 33:45
Speaker 3: have to kind of go at it with open arms
• 33:47
Speaker 3: and hope and assume that the best is yet to come,
• 33:50
Speaker 3: and assume the best everyone has their best intentions because
• 33:54
Speaker 3: coming from a place of self doubt or being non trustworthy,
• 33:57
Speaker 3: and it's all self doubt.
• 33:58
Speaker 2: It's from what I can gather from you.
• 34:00
Speaker 3: Letter isn't moving anyone in any direction, but just like
• 34:03
Speaker 3: leaving you feeling not great about everything.
• 34:06
Speaker 8: Yeah, I think that as each day gets easier, so
• 34:09
Speaker 8: that's a plus. And I think in the beginning it
• 34:11
Speaker 8: was more the fact that they had a prior work
• 34:14
Speaker 8: relationship that I felt like, oh, they know each other
• 34:16
Speaker 8: already a little bit better and so like not sure
• 34:19
Speaker 8: if I was gonna get on that same level. But
• 34:21
Speaker 8: like with time, you know, we are finding that we
• 34:24
Speaker 8: have a lot more stuff in common. So like that
• 34:26
  Speaker 8: has been helpful.
• 34:27
Speaker 3: But but it's also you have to like have a
• 34:29
Speaker 3: lot of respect for yourself in the fact that you
• 34:32
Speaker 3: are unique and what you have to offer, nobody else
• 34:34
Speaker 3: has to offer, no matter what the dynamic, no matter
• 34:37
Speaker 3: if they spend more time together than you do.
• 34:39
Speaker 2: She doesn't have what you have.
• 34:41
Speaker 3: She is a completely different person and offers a completely
• 34:43
Speaker 3: different set of excitement than you do. It's not one
• 34:47
Speaker 3: is more than the other, it's one is different.
• 34:49
  Speaker 2: Than the other.
• 34:51
Speaker 7: So that's what she tells me.
• 34:52
Speaker 2: So like you have to really.
• 34:54
Speaker 3: Work on your self love and your self respect because
• 34:58
Speaker 3: that's what it's all about. It's about no knowing that
• 35:00
Speaker 3: you have high value and that you're giving high value,
• 35:03
Speaker 3: and that you're not competing with anybody in the situation.
• 35:06
Speaker 8: Yeah, no, I definitely don't think it feels like a competition.
• 35:09
Speaker 8: I think it's feels or was feeling a little bit
• 35:11
Speaker 8: more like fomo. I guess in a way like right,
• 35:14
Speaker 8: what am I missing? Or which is also stupid, like
• 35:16
Speaker 8: fomo is stupid. I you know, what do you think, Adam?
• 35:20
Speaker 5: I mean, I think that like in this situation, when
• 35:23
Speaker 5: you're feeling these like different doubts and insecurities, maybe you
• 35:26
Speaker 5: never wrapped your head around a polyamorous relationship before and
• 35:30
Speaker 5: so it's it's new to you. And I think that
• 35:32
Speaker 5: like one thing that you know, when we have these insecurities,
• 35:36
Speaker 5: sometimes like the scariest thing is just saying them out loud.
• 35:39
Speaker 5: So I feel like to keep everything like out in
• 35:42
Speaker 5: the open so that you're not holding onto anything just
• 35:44
Speaker 5: thinking like, oh, just it's stupid that I'm thinking that.
• 35:46
Speaker 2: Just say the stupid thing and get it now.
• 35:49
Speaker 7: And I have been.
• 35:49
Speaker 8: I've been very vocal with like, you know, just so
• 35:52
Speaker 8: you know, because I think it does help to put
• 35:54
Speaker 8: that out there. I have actually had open relationships with
• 35:57
Speaker 8: every partner I've been with, but it's different this time because,
• 36:00
Speaker 8: like you know, we've been together longer than any other
• 36:03
Speaker 8: relationship I've had, and it was I think it's just
• 36:04
Speaker 8: a little scarier opening up our marriage because like it's
• 36:07
Speaker 8: on a different level than any other relationship.
• 36:09
Speaker 7: So I have hopes that everything is gonna work out.
• 36:13
Speaker 5: Yeah, I think just like that constant check in with
• 36:16
Speaker 5: like all partners, just to make sure everybody's always, like
• 36:19
Speaker 5: constantly on the same page, because I think some of
• 36:22
Speaker 5: that fear is that maybe there is a miscommunication or
• 36:25
Speaker 5: maybe somebody's feeling something that somebody's not. And I think
• 36:28
Speaker 5: that like just a constant check in between the three.
• 36:31
Speaker 3: Of you, but a regular it's like a schedule check in,
• 36:34
Speaker 3: not a constant check in, because I feel like it's
• 36:36
Speaker 3: not every time something comes up for you, because you
• 36:38
Speaker 3: have to figure out a way to self soothe. Also,
• 36:41
Speaker 3: you have to understand that the voices in your head
• 36:43
Speaker 3: sometimes are just silly.
• 36:44
Speaker 2: Then that's all they are.
• 36:45
Speaker 3: There's a difference between like, you know, being impulsive and
• 36:47
Speaker 3: being instinctual. Just because you feel left out, then you're like,
• 36:51
Speaker 3: you don't have to react to that. Then you could go, oh, yeah,
• 36:54
Speaker 3: you know why I feel left out. This has happened
• 36:55
Speaker 3: before when they're together.
• 36:56
Speaker 2: This is just me.
• 36:57
Speaker 3: This is like the negative narrative I have in my head.
• 37:00
Speaker 3: That's not happening. I'm safe, I'm in a healthy, loving relationship.
• 37:04
Speaker 3: Everything's out on the table. And then you talk yourself
• 37:06
Speaker 3: out of it most times and you're fine if you
• 37:08
Speaker 3: really have a ghet or of feeling and you're like
• 37:10
  Speaker 3: something's off, then that's a different situation. But what I
• 37:13
Speaker 3: suspect and what I'm hearing is that you just have
• 37:16
Speaker 3: you know, this kind of negative self not self talk,
• 37:19
Speaker 3: but this kind of negative idea of what's happening without you,
• 37:22
Speaker 3: that you're missing out, And I think you can talk
• 37:24
Speaker 3: yourself out of that, like you can counsel yourself to
• 37:27
Speaker 3: make that going. Oh, this is what happens when they
• 37:30
Speaker 3: go away. Okay, this is what happens when they're on
• 37:32
Speaker 3: a date. Oh, I'm doing my thing, Okay, I'm going.
• 37:35
Speaker 8: To be You're not doing any of that separately. We
• 37:37
Speaker 8: have agreed that, like we're the our dynamic. What we
• 37:40
Speaker 8: want is like the attraction is it's like the three
• 37:42
Speaker 8: of us. So it's a little bit more unique and
• 37:44
Speaker 8: where like we don't have intentions of dating separately apart
• 37:48
Speaker 8: from like each other whatever. But there are moments where
• 37:51
Speaker 8: like there might be a work thing that they might
• 37:53
Speaker 8: have to discuss or like you know, she and I
• 37:55
Speaker 8: go do something together. But when we have those moments
• 37:57
Speaker 8: one on one, it's more of like a platonic friendly nature.
• 38:00
Speaker 8: We're not like doing anything physical or whatever. Unless we're
• 38:03
Speaker 8: all together. And I think that makes everybody feel more
• 38:05
Speaker 8: comfortable because that was the attraction on her part, was
• 38:08
Speaker 8: like us together. It wasn't like oh I have the
• 38:10
Speaker 8: hots for you or I have the hots for your wife.
• 38:12
Speaker 8: It was like you guys are you know? So just
• 38:14
Speaker 8: kind of like went here WiFi. Do you have anything
• 38:17
Speaker 8: to say for yourself? You've been very quiet.
• 38:19
Speaker 7: I usually always am. They don't let me get a
• 38:22
  Speaker 7: word in.
• 38:23
Speaker 6: So that's kind of been my biggest hurdle is I
• 38:26
Speaker 6: now have two of these and they gang up holding them.
• 38:32
Speaker 7: I you know, I mean I'm at max capacity right now.
• 38:35
Speaker 7: Let's just say it.
• 38:36
Speaker 6: But yeah, Like I was used to sharing her and
• 38:38
Speaker 6: sharing partners beforehand, so I think like just seeing them
• 38:41
Speaker 6: bond has been great. Like I get a sense of
• 38:44
Speaker 6: happiness when I see them being happy or just connecting,
• 38:50
Speaker 6: because I feel like that's that's the biggest thing that
• 38:52
  Speaker 6: draws me to this, is it's a bonus. I don't
• 38:55
Speaker 6: look at it as like breaking down the pie and
• 38:58
Speaker 6: like we're getting less of each other. It's just more
• 39:01
Speaker 6: yeah mm hmmm, yeah, Yeah, I mean I'm taking it
• 39:05
Speaker 6: a day at a time. That's all I can say. Yeah,
• 39:07
  Speaker 6: I didn't even know about.
• 39:08
Speaker 7: This whole call in thing. She forwarded me an email.
• 39:11
Speaker 6: She told me what she did, and I was like,
• 39:13
Speaker 6: I would like to sit on this, even though I'm
• 39:17
Speaker 6: mostly here for technical support, but i'm usually a few
• 39:21
Speaker 6: a few words. They don't let me get any any
• 39:24
Speaker 6: words in other words, Okay, Well, you.
• 39:25
Speaker 3: Guys seem like you all respect each other and love
• 39:27
Speaker 3: each other, so I think everything's going to be fine.
• 39:29
Speaker 3: I think you just have to get those little voices
• 39:31
Speaker 3: out of your head, and you do that by exercising
• 39:34
Speaker 3: your self soothing your self love and your self respect.
• 39:38
Speaker 3: There's nothing, there's nothing to see. It's kind of like
• 39:40
Speaker 3: there's nothing to see here.
• 39:42
Speaker 1: Yeah, like even body language together, and like the way
• 39:45
Speaker 1: you're both looking at each other when the other like
• 39:47
Speaker 1: you guys have something really special.
• 39:49
  Speaker 2: So I don't think there's a.
• 39:50
Speaker 8: Lot that's I think that betther part of it too,
• 39:52
Speaker 8: for me was that like I have done this before
• 39:55
Speaker 8: with other, you know, relationships, and it came so easy
• 39:58
Speaker 8: to me, and it's like this time, it's like I
• 40:01
Speaker 8: think it's because it felt like there's so much more
• 40:03
Speaker 8: at stake and so much more to lose.
• 40:04
Speaker 7: She'll share this and you're hard to show. I mean,
• 40:08
Speaker 7: I got a real, real prize on my hands here,
• 40:10
Speaker 7: but so yeah, that's part of it.
• 40:12
Speaker 8: It's like, am I an idiot for doing this because
• 40:15
Speaker 8: like they have so much more to lose, like you know,
• 40:18
Speaker 8: but I'm like no, because I don't know.
• 40:20
Speaker 7: I'm trying to just be organic with it.
• 40:21
Speaker 8: It's like an opportunity presented itself, and I feel like
• 40:23
Speaker 8: we owe it to ourselves to explore it. That's kind
• 40:25
Speaker 8: of where we're at with the thing, because we think
• 40:27
Speaker 8: they're looking for it by any by any means.
• 40:31
Speaker 5: So yeah, I think you do owe it to yourselves
• 40:33
Speaker 5: and just enjoy it, you know, experience.
• 40:37
Speaker 8: We're recent empty nesters, so it's just like the timing
• 40:39
Speaker 8: and all of it just seems like what are we
• 40:42
Speaker 8: Why should we not see what happens?
• 40:44
Speaker 7: Why not? Yea, so well?
• 40:46
Speaker 2: Will you check in with us in a few months?
• 40:48
Speaker 7: Absolutely, it was good to do that.
• 40:50
Speaker 2: Yeah, don't care from you again?
• 40:52
Speaker 3: Love it Okay, Bye, ladies, Nice to you so much.
• 40:55
Speaker 7: Nice to meet you.
• 40:56
Speaker 2: Bye another happy throat wile served. Have you ever been
• 41:00
Speaker 2: part of the threat ball?
• 41:01
  Speaker 6: No?
• 41:02
Speaker 2: Do you have friends who are Yeah? I think so.
• 41:04
Speaker 2: Are you in a relationship yeah, I'm married. Oh oh god,
• 41:08
Speaker 2: how's that going? Good? Do you have chick kids?
• 41:10
  Speaker 5: No?
• 41:11
  Speaker 2: I can't even say it. I'm like, well, I feel
• 41:13
Speaker 2: the same way. It's like I stutter when I say kids. No,
• 41:16
  Speaker 2: I no, I don't I don't want kids. Yeah. Good,
• 41:19
Speaker 2: it's kind of what's the point the world is about
• 41:22
Speaker 2: to explode? Well, I know, bad timing, Yeah, to have children.
• 41:26
Speaker 3: Anytime I see a pregnant woman, I just am so
• 41:28
Speaker 3: confid you need a ride and like yeah to mars.
• 41:33
Speaker 1: Well, our next caller is Catherine with a K and
• 41:36
Speaker 1: this is a long email. I just want you to
• 41:39
Speaker 1: It's a very long email, but kind of.
• 41:40
Speaker 2: Like it all needs to be there, so okay. Sometimes
• 41:43
Speaker 2: emails I have trouble for the same Yeah, well you through?
• 41:47
Speaker 7: Yeah, hold her hand.
• 41:49
  Speaker 1: I am in a conundrum that I don't know how
• 41:51
Speaker 1: to get out of, but won't.
• 41:52
Speaker 2: At this time for one main reason. Let me explain.
• 41:55
Speaker 1: I've known this guy since twenty nineteen. We met on
• 41:58
Speaker 1: Ashley Madison and started at three year sugar baby.
• 42:01
  Speaker 2: Sugar daddy relationship.
• 42:03
Speaker 1: We hung out once a week the majority of the arrangement,
• 42:05
Speaker 1: with more time when our schedules allowed. We lived an
• 42:08
Speaker 1: hour from one another, and this dynamic was great for
• 42:10
Speaker 1: both of us because he's a workaholic and I was
• 42:12
Speaker 1: just as busy being a single mom to my two
• 42:15
Speaker 1: sons while working full time and dealing with their unhelpful
• 42:17
Speaker 1: co parent dad. Obviously, because we met on Ashley Madison,
• 42:20
Speaker 1: he was married with two children of his own. I
• 42:23
Speaker 1: knew this, he was transparent about it, and it worked
• 42:25
Speaker 1: out perfectly for me, as married men tend to be
• 42:28
Speaker 1: too busy for a real relationship. Call me terrible, but
• 42:30
Speaker 1: that dynamic works best for me at the stage of
• 42:32
Speaker 1: my life. From the beginning, we both said this was
• 42:35
Speaker 1: strictly business. Both our sexual needs were met, I received
• 42:38
Speaker 1: financial compensation, and we respected the boundaries surrounding his married
• 42:41
Speaker 1: life and my children. Then, of course, he fell in
• 42:44
Speaker 1: love and wanted more, while I fell in love too,
• 42:46
Speaker 1: I didn't want more. I wanted the arrangement to be
• 42:49
Speaker 1: kept the same, the main reason being I didn't trust
• 42:51
Speaker 1: that he wouldn't do the same thing to me that
• 42:53
Speaker 1: he was currently doing to his wife. My marriage also
• 42:55
Speaker 1: ended because my ex husband did the exact same thing
• 42:57
Speaker 1: to me. It's crazy how I was willingly to be
• 43:00
Speaker 1: the other woman. I own my shit, and therapy has
• 43:02
Speaker 1: been great for me. During our initial three year relationship,
• 43:05
Speaker 1: he never once mentioned leaving his wife, but did state
• 43:08
Speaker 1: that they should get divorced. He told me they weren't
• 43:09
  Speaker 1: sleeping together.
• 43:10
  Speaker 2: Believable. I don't know.
• 43:11
Speaker 1: Divorce is messy since he was married. I met someone else,
• 43:14
Speaker 1: which I didn't feel guilty about. He eventually found out
• 43:17
Speaker 1: and all of a sudden decided to leave his wife.
• 43:19
Speaker 1: I'm sure that this was in an effort to prove
• 43:21
Speaker 1: to me he wanted to be with me.
• 43:23
Speaker 2: I'm not naive. I know he would eventually do to
• 43:25
Speaker 2: me what he did to his wife.
• 43:26
Speaker 1: And we stopped seeing each other after in an argument
• 43:28
Speaker 1: in which he said some nasty things. No one talks
• 43:30
Speaker 1: to me that way. We've both moved on, or so
• 43:32
Speaker 1: I thought. A couple months ago, I texted him in
• 43:35
Speaker 1: a weak moment. He responded, We met up and slept
• 43:37
Speaker 1: together once in April. We both wanted to do it again,
• 43:40
Speaker 1: but haven't. He is divorced from his wife, currently living
• 43:42
Speaker 1: with a new lady.
• 43:43
  Speaker 7: He claims is.
• 43:44
Speaker 2: Great and he's happy. But if that's the case, why
• 43:46
Speaker 2: is he meeting me? I know why.
• 43:48
Speaker 1: Our sex is phenomenal. My main struggle is that I
• 43:51
Speaker 1: know this is wrong. I'm not a stupid woman. I
• 43:53
Speaker 1: know he's a liar and a cheater and always will be.
• 43:55
Speaker 1: I put myself in that category two because my current
• 43:58
Speaker 1: boyfriend has no idea. I don't want to get back together,
• 44:01
Speaker 1: but I know what I like sexually, and he delivers
• 44:03
Speaker 1: it every single time. I think it's purely sexually driven,
• 44:05
Speaker 1: because I don't yearn for him or find myself missing him.
• 44:08
Speaker 1: I only text what i'm horny to note. I am
• 44:10
Speaker 1: not having grade sex with my current boyfriend. He tries,
• 44:12
Speaker 1: but it's not there. So what's a lady to do.
• 44:15
Speaker 1: We're only here on this earth for a short time,
• 44:17
Speaker 1: we might as well have grade sex. Please give me
• 44:19
Speaker 1: some advice. I admire you as a fellow boundary living,
• 44:21
  Speaker 1: fierce independent woman.
• 44:23
  Speaker 2: Boundary loving. I'm a boundary I don't have boundaries.
• 44:26
Speaker 1: And then the day I emailed her, she emailed me
• 44:28
Speaker 1: with an update that said, we sleve together this morning.
• 44:31
  Speaker 2: Phenomenal as usual.
• 44:33
Speaker 1: So Hi, Hi Catherine, Hi Catherine, Hi Catherine, Hi.
• 44:37
Speaker 3: This is our special guest, Adam Rippon here today and
• 44:40
Speaker 3: he is here to counsel you.
• 44:43
Speaker 2: Yes, that was a long letter. I was being able
• 44:45
  Speaker 2: to pay attention.
• 44:46
Speaker 3: Throughout the whole letter, there was a lot happening, a
• 44:48
Speaker 3: lot of different characters.
• 44:50
Speaker 2: Okay, Adam, do you want to start this one? Sure,
• 44:52
  Speaker 2: I'll start.
• 44:53
Speaker 5: I think that you're right in thinking that, like, if
• 44:56
Speaker 5: you get into a relationship with this guy, that it
• 44:59
Speaker 5: will end in disappointment. It'll end up the same way
• 45:03
Speaker 5: that it started. Basically, Yeah, I think you know that.
• 45:07
Speaker 5: And I think that the like forbidden sort of love
• 45:10
Speaker 5: and the lusts that you're able to like have with
• 45:13
Speaker 5: each other can be really passionate because it is what
• 45:16
Speaker 5: it is, Like you do that and it's then you
• 45:18
Speaker 5: don't see each other, and it's this like really exciting,
• 45:20
Speaker 5: like adrenaline pumping thing. And I think that more so
• 45:25
Speaker 5: than like the sex with him, it's that rush of
• 45:27
Speaker 5: adrenaline that you're feeling. And I think it's the rush.
• 45:32
Speaker 5: And I think that you think of that rush, and
• 45:33
Speaker 5: you think of like the thrill that like that sexual
• 45:37
Speaker 5: chemistry that you guys have is so intoxicating that it's
• 45:40
Speaker 5: probably making the sex better feeling better than it actually is.
• 45:45
Speaker 2: And I think like when you're with your with your boyfriend, you're.
• 45:49
Speaker 5: Thinking, like God, it's just it's not that exciting, well,
• 45:51
Speaker 5: because it's not wrong and it's not like forbidden. So
• 45:54
Speaker 5: I think it's that like adrenaline, and sometimes it's like
• 45:57
Speaker 5: thinking about that will make it less exciting. If you're thinking,
• 46:00
Speaker 5: it's just these chemicals like pumping into my brain making
• 46:03
Speaker 5: you want to do this, What do you think, Catherine with.
• 46:05
Speaker 4: The King, No, I definitely agree, that's definitely part of it.
• 46:09
Speaker 4: Even when we were exclusively but maybe not exclusively on
• 46:14
Speaker 4: his part, seeing each other back in twenty nineteen, it
• 46:16
Speaker 4: was the same thing. I saw him once a week
• 46:18
Speaker 4: and then you know, he went off and did his
• 46:20
Speaker 4: life for the rest of the week and I did mine,
• 46:22
Speaker 4: and then when that day came around the next week,
• 46:24
Speaker 4: it was new and exciting again.
• 46:27
Speaker 7: So I get that.
• 46:27
Speaker 4: Part two where I struggle the most is do I
• 46:32
Speaker 4: have feelings or is it just the lustiness that we
• 46:36
Speaker 4: just talked about, like the fun and exciting and the wrongness,
• 46:40
Speaker 4: or do I actually really care?
• 46:42
Speaker 3: I think that you have to trust your female instinct,
• 46:46
Speaker 3: your internal instinct, which is this guy is trouble.
• 46:50
Speaker 2: Is the right voice in your head that's you've been saying.
• 46:53
Speaker 3: You've said that three times in that letter in three
• 46:55
Speaker 3: different ways, and you said it again with regard to
• 46:59
Speaker 3: the situation, and as it stands today, we as women
• 47:02
Speaker 3: need to pay attention to that inner voice. It is
• 47:05
Speaker 3: protecting us. You don't may not even ever find out
• 47:08
Speaker 3: what it's protecting you from. Hopefully you don't find out
• 47:12
Speaker 3: what it's protecting you from. But I would just say
• 47:14
Speaker 3: to everyone who's listening today, always listen to that fucking
• 47:19
Speaker 3: voice that is like your internal like reader telling you no, no, no, no,
• 47:24
Speaker 3: something's off here, and it's never fucking wrong. And we
• 47:29
Speaker 3: instead think, oh, well, this is fun. I might have
• 47:31
Speaker 3: fun with him. I mean, he's doing the same everything.
• 47:34
Speaker 3: His behavior hasn't changed at all. He's got some other
• 47:36
Speaker 3: woman now, and so you're now talking about having an
• 47:39
  Speaker 3: affair with him.
• 47:39
Speaker 2: But for what you like?
• 47:41
Speaker 3: Why just because it's good sex. That's not a good
• 47:44
  Speaker 3: enough reason.
• 47:45
  Speaker 4: I don't think, I know, I agree with you, And
• 47:48
Speaker 4: that is the main thing. Other than and sometimes people
• 47:53
Speaker 4: can play pretend attentive. Would check in things like that, right,
• 47:59
Speaker 4: Things that always start at the beginning of something and
• 48:01
Speaker 4: if you're lucky, continue on so you have a lasting relationship.
• 48:05
Speaker 2: But eventually those things die. Yeah, but that's a chase
• 48:08
  Speaker 2: that's a chase.
• 48:09
Speaker 3: This guy has demonstrated his behavior over the years, and
• 48:12
Speaker 3: it's pretty consistent, right, And the idea that if you
• 48:16
Speaker 3: were to be with him, he's going to change into
• 48:17
Speaker 3: this different person is exactly what you think.
• 48:20
  Speaker 2: It is bullshit.
• 48:22
  Speaker 7: I know that.
• 48:22
Speaker 4: I think I just needed to hear it from some
• 48:24
Speaker 4: other people. Yeah, of course, to kind of solidify what
• 48:29
Speaker 4: I already do know. So then I guess my main
• 48:32
Speaker 4: question goes too, in which I know I can block
• 48:36
Speaker 4: and such, How do I resist the orges to text
• 48:39
Speaker 4: because A, I know he's always going to answer, and B,
• 48:43
Speaker 4: like we said at the beginning, it is very very
• 48:45
Speaker 4: good for whatever the reasons. Maybe the sex is very
• 48:49
  Speaker 4: very good.
• 48:50
Speaker 2: Do you know how you're going to resist your urges
• 48:53
  Speaker 2: to text him?
• 48:55
  Speaker 7: How?
• 48:55
Speaker 2: Because you're a grown ass fucking woman. You are grown
• 49:00
Speaker 2: I knew you were gonna say what hello?
• 49:02
Speaker 3: Because you don't feel like texting him back anymore. It's
• 49:05
Speaker 3: a wrap on this guy. Forget about him. You are
• 49:08
Speaker 3: a grown woman who is empowered. Give yourself a little
• 49:12
Speaker 3: bit more power. You are not going to text him again.
• 49:16
Speaker 3: You don't need his validation, you don't need to have
• 49:18
Speaker 3: good sex with him. There are millions of men out there,
• 49:21
Speaker 3: find somebody else to fuck.
• 49:23
Speaker 2: You already have somebody to fuck, don't you. Isn't that
• 49:25
Speaker 2: wasn't that part of the letter that you're also fucking
• 49:27
  Speaker 2: someone else?
• 49:29
  Speaker 7: I am?
• 49:30
Speaker 3: Yes, so yeah, it's not as good and bad. Okay, Okay,
• 49:36
Speaker 3: this guy's not the right one. Find somebody else to
• 49:38
Speaker 3: tickle your fancy. I seriously, like you've said to me
• 49:42
Speaker 3: in this letter enough times for me to know for
• 49:45
Speaker 3: you that you need to be told to trust yourself
• 49:47
Speaker 3: and trust your instincts.
• 49:49
Speaker 2: Yeah you know already.
• 49:51
Speaker 5: Yeah, I think you knew the answer all along, like
• 49:54
Speaker 5: you were alluding to it throughout the whole email.
• 49:56
Speaker 3: Go write down on a piece of paper that right,
• 49:58
  Speaker 3: I am a grown woman.
• 50:01
Speaker 2: Write that down and put it on your mirror in
• 50:03
  Speaker 2: your bathroom.
• 50:04
Speaker 3: And I want you to say that to yourself every
• 50:06
Speaker 3: fucking time you have an urge, walk into the mirror,
• 50:08
Speaker 3: look at that, and say to yourself in the mirror,
• 50:10
Speaker 3: I am a grown ass woman.
• 50:12
Speaker 2: Okay, I'm going to do that. Yeah, Okay, let's not
• 50:15
Speaker 2: have this conversation again.
• 50:16
Speaker 3: Okay, we will not, Okay, okay, Catherine with Okay, good
• 50:20
  Speaker 3: luck with everything.
• 50:21
Speaker 2: Thanks for calling in.
• 50:22
  Speaker 7: Thank you bye.
• 50:24
Speaker 2: Bye meeting on Ashley Madison. Also, I'm looking at myself
• 50:28
  Speaker 2: in here.
• 50:28
Speaker 5: I look like Steve Harvey in this shirt, which has
• 50:31
  Speaker 5: been a tough.
• 50:32
  Speaker 2: With white face.
• 50:33
Speaker 3: Yes, I mean your skin couldn't be more opposite than
• 50:37
  Speaker 3: Steve Harvey's.
• 50:38
Speaker 2: I have to be honest with you. Similar.
• 50:41
Speaker 3: Yeah, but that is a Steve Harvey shirt. Yes, that's
• 50:43
Speaker 3: not what you're giving is Steve Harvey. Like you have
• 50:46
Speaker 3: to really go, you have to really get in there
• 50:48
Speaker 3: to figure that out.
• 50:49
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 50:49
Speaker 3: Yeah, Ashley Madison, I almost started watching that documentary the
• 50:52
Speaker 3: other night on Netflix or wherever it is, and I
• 50:54
Speaker 3: was like, I don't care. I don't care about this story.
• 50:56
  Speaker 3: I don't care about Tawdrey. I don't like tawdry stories.
• 51:00
Speaker 3: I don't like tawd Like. I tried to watch that
• 51:02
Speaker 3: Poop Cruise. I'm like, this is tawdry.
• 51:04
Speaker 1: The poop Cruise, Miss Netflix all about there.
• 51:07
Speaker 3: There's a cruise that like lost their power in the
• 51:10
Speaker 3: middle of some ocean and then everyone has a poop
• 51:13
Speaker 3: it And I was like, you know what this is.
• 51:14
Speaker 2: They had to poop and buckets. When you don't like
• 51:17
  Speaker 2: like poop, I don't like cruise. I don't like poop.
• 51:19
  Speaker 2: I don't like cruises. I don't I don't like festivals,
• 51:24
Speaker 2: you know, whenever they're like I've never been, I will
• 51:26
Speaker 2: never go. Sorry. I don't need to be like dusty,
• 51:29
Speaker 2: like I don't know, sweaty and dusty and hot and
• 51:32
Speaker 2: thirsty and being on drugs. It's too much of a combination,
• 51:35
Speaker 2: like I want to be on You hate drugs, Yeah,
• 51:38
Speaker 2: I hate drugs. I hate them. Well, should take a
• 51:42
Speaker 2: break and wrap up with a quickie.
• 51:44
Speaker 3: Sure, we're going to take a break and we'll be
• 51:45
Speaker 3: right back with Adam Rippon. Am I saying it now?
• 51:51
Speaker 3: I or even too much?
• 51:53
  Speaker 6: No?
• 51:53
Speaker 2: I think you can make it more and more.
• 51:55
Speaker 3: Okay, we're gonna we're back with Adam Rippan, the litlt
• 52:00
Speaker 3: and I have so many different ways I can say things.
• 52:02
  Speaker 2: Oh, excellent.
• 52:03
Speaker 1: Well, our last call comes from Jess. She says, dear Chelsea,
• 52:08
Speaker 1: from one dog lover to another, I need your help
• 52:10
Speaker 1: before I spiral. I rescued a dog from the shelter
• 52:13
Speaker 1: seven months ago. She's a little over a year old now,
• 52:16
Speaker 1: and since the day I brought her home, I have
• 52:18
Speaker 1: been her everything. I feed her, I walk her, I
• 52:21
Speaker 1: give her peanut butter. I take her to the dog park.
• 52:24
Speaker 1: I clean up her emotional and literal messes. Basically, I'm
• 52:28
Speaker 1: her unpaid therapist, chef, chauffeur, and life coach. And yet
• 52:32
Speaker 1: this bitch is obsessed with my husband. The man does nothing,
• 52:36
Speaker 1: He didn't even want a dog. He barely acknowledges her existence.
• 52:39
Speaker 1: And still she looks at him like he's the second
• 52:41
Speaker 1: coming of Caesar Milan. She snuggles him, She follows him around,
• 52:45
Speaker 1: She waits for him at the door, like he's deployed overseas.
• 52:48
Speaker 2: I could be on fire and she'd be like, but
• 52:50
Speaker 2: where's dad? Chelsea? Help?
• 52:52
Speaker 1: How do I get this furry little trader to appreciate
• 52:54
Speaker 1: the woman who saved her from doggy prison and spoon
• 52:57
Speaker 1: feeds her high quality kibble every day.
• 53:00
Speaker 2: Attached to a photo for reference.
• 53:01
Speaker 1: Please note her delusional level of devotion centreats and therapy.
• 53:05
Speaker 2: Send help, sincerely, Jess.

Speaker 3: Hi, Jess, this is this is our special guest, Adam Rippon.
• 53:12
  Speaker 1: Hi.
• 53:13
  Speaker 7: I see you.
• 53:14
Speaker 2: Nice to meet you too.
• 53:15
Speaker 3: Have you thought about is killing your husband an option
• 53:19
Speaker 3: or considering it? Yeah? Not not with a gun, not
• 53:23
Speaker 3: in a violent way, like a.
• 53:26
  Speaker 2: Way and snuggling.
• 53:28
Speaker 3: Oh, there's nothing you can do.
• 53:31
Speaker 2: No, there's nothing you can do.
• 53:33
Speaker 3: I mean, all you could try to do is let
• 53:35
Speaker 3: him do all of the work that you're doing and
• 53:37
Speaker 3: see if that flips a switch and the dog because
• 53:39
Speaker 3: sometimes dogs like the person that plays harder to get you.
• 53:42
Speaker 7: Know what I mean.
• 53:43
Speaker 3: But there's nothing you could do about a dog's affection
• 53:46
Speaker 3: my dogs. First of all, you're coming to the wrong
• 53:48
Speaker 3: person for good dog advice. My dogs don't respect me.
• 53:51
Speaker 3: None of them have ever respected me. They don't understand
• 53:55
Speaker 3: how hard I work and how much I provide for them.
• 53:57
Speaker 3: They love me, but they don't respect me. So like
• 54:00
Speaker 3: you asking me how to get your dog to love
• 54:01
Speaker 3: you more is like it's like talking to It's like
• 54:04
Speaker 3: talking to Liza Minellie about not doing any pills.
• 54:06
Speaker 2: You know what I mean. I don't know how to
• 54:08
  Speaker 2: help you.
• 54:09
Speaker 3: But what I can say is you can try and
• 54:11
Speaker 3: take the responsibilities, put them all on your husband and
• 54:13
Speaker 3: see if that changes it and flip a switch.
• 54:16
Speaker 7: You know what I mean?
• 54:17
Speaker 3: Star Well, right, right, But but like there's something to
• 54:23
Speaker 3: be said for you know, everyone says, oh, it's who
• 54:25
Speaker 3: feeds them, who doesn't, who takes them for walks, who
• 54:27
Speaker 3: does that like, maybe if he is doing all of
• 54:29
Speaker 3: those things, if you're doing all of those things and
• 54:31
Speaker 3: he already and your dog loves him so much, maybe
• 54:34
Speaker 3: if he's doing all those things, the dog will start
• 54:36
Speaker 3: being more attracted to you because he doesn't feel like
• 54:38
Speaker 3: you're waiting on him.
• 54:39
Speaker 2: And is it a he or she? She?
• 54:41
  Speaker 3: It's a she that she she won't feel like you're
• 54:44
Speaker 3: waiting on him handed her, hand and foot.
• 54:46
Speaker 2: There's a lot of genuine confusion on this show. I'm
• 54:49
  Speaker 2: so sorry.
• 54:50
  Speaker 7: That's okay.
• 54:51
  Speaker 3: Yeah, I think I've considered maybe she's just a whore
• 54:54
Speaker 3: and she just loves maybe. Yeah, I mean, yeah, they are.
• 55:00
  Speaker 3: I mean a girl dog with a man. I can
• 55:01
Speaker 3: see where you're going with that. My dog is very
• 55:04
Speaker 3: into females, loves females like he's very sexual. You know,
• 55:08
Speaker 3: he wants to be around women all the time. He
• 55:10
Speaker 3: knows exactly the faces to make. It's very manipulative. He
• 55:13
Speaker 3: only wants to me when he needs something, you know
• 55:15
Speaker 3: what I mean. He's not like coming over and going, hey,
• 55:17
Speaker 3: you want to hug in the middle of the day.
• 55:19
Speaker 2: It's like food related. Uh huh.
• 55:22
  Speaker 3: Yeah.
• 55:22
Speaker 2: He is a protector. Actually, Actually, Doug is.
• 55:24
Speaker 3: The best dog I've had so in terms of like
• 55:26
  Speaker 3: a relationship.
• 55:27
  Speaker 2: But he doesn't.
• 55:28
Speaker 3: When I say Doug, come, it's like I might as
• 55:30
Speaker 3: well be talking to a hot air balloon.
• 55:33
Speaker 2: Or Adam Rappon or Adam Rappon.
• 55:35
Speaker 1: Yeah, you know what, this actually might be a time
• 55:39
Speaker 1: for a second dog.
• 55:40
Speaker 2: Maybe it's just like you need to get a dog
• 55:42
  Speaker 2: for yourself.
• 55:43
Speaker 7: You have a second dog.
• 55:44
Speaker 5: Oh wait, what's the deal with the second dog?
• 55:48
  Speaker 2: Yeah?
• 55:48
Speaker 5: I have two dogs too, Jessica, and I feel kind
• 55:51
  Speaker 5: of your pain.
• 55:52
  Speaker 7: I have Achwaa.
• 55:53
Speaker 2: He is twelve years old and he was also rescued.
• 55:57
Speaker 3: And it's funny because it was my husband dog first,
• 56:00
Speaker 3: but now he is obsessed with.
• 56:01
Speaker 2: Me, So you know what it is? Yeah, but well
• 56:07
  Speaker 2: but I can't believe you. I can't believe you how
• 56:10
Speaker 2: greedy you have a dog that he rescued. First of all,
• 56:13
Speaker 2: you don't have to say that chihuahua was rescued.
• 56:15
Speaker 3: Nobody is going to a breeder to buy chihuahuas, so
• 56:18
Speaker 3: you don't again, Okay, okay, we know it's a rescue,
• 56:21
Speaker 3: but I mean, you already have a dog that is
• 56:25
Speaker 3: obsessed with you. That's his dog, and now the same
• 56:27
Speaker 3: thing happened to you and you're calling into a dear Chelsea.
• 56:30
Speaker 2: You know, I always have two kids who are also
• 56:32
  Speaker 2: obsessed with me.
• 56:33
Speaker 7: But I want all of them.
• 56:36
Speaker 3: If people keep coming out of the woodwork during this
• 56:38
  Speaker 3: phone call alone, I mean, I think everything's good, everything's
• 56:42
Speaker 3: fine with you, and just keep going and just hope
• 56:44
Speaker 3: for the best and be grateful for the love that
• 56:46
Speaker 3: you are. Go where the light is, Harriet fair enough,
• 56:49
Speaker 3: And it's over there. It's it's next to a heat lamp,
• 56:51
Speaker 3: next to the chihuahua.
• 56:52
Speaker 5: Uh huh celebrating their thirteenth birthday.
• 56:56
Speaker 7: Yeah, he saves with my hating times.
• 56:58
Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, all right, we'll take care. Thanks for calling in.
• 57:02
Speaker 2: I thank you bye.
• 57:04
Speaker 3: Talk about a problem, not problem, but it's like a
• 57:07
  Speaker 3: non problem problem.
• 57:09
  Speaker 2: Yeah, you know.
• 57:09
Speaker 5: The hardest thing about I never had dogs until I
• 57:12
Speaker 5: got the dogs that I have now. I have Tony
• 57:15
Speaker 5: and Tracy. Tony's from Mexico, Tijuana and Tracy's from a
• 57:20
  Speaker 5: dumpster in Bakersfield.
• 57:22
Speaker 2: Oh and we got Tracy when.
• 57:23
Speaker 5: She was like one year old already, she didn't know
• 57:26
Speaker 5: her name, she wasn't trained at all, like total street dog.
• 57:32
Speaker 2: And Tony is like we had him since he was
• 57:34
  Speaker 2: like a puppy.
• 57:34
Speaker 5: He's like great, And Tracy, I've really had to learn that,
• 57:38
Speaker 5: like dogs just don't think the same way that we do,
• 57:42
Speaker 5: and like sometimes like you just need to think of
• 57:44
Speaker 5: Like I think in this situation, it's like the dog
• 57:46
Speaker 5: is just associating like relaxing with the husband, because the
• 57:50
Speaker 5: husband's always relaxing when they're together, and when like the
• 57:54
Speaker 5: dog is with Jessica, I think the dog is just like,
• 57:57
Speaker 5: oh wet, this is what I who I eat with,
• 58:00
Speaker 5: but this is who I relax with. Like dogs compartmentalize
• 58:03
Speaker 5: like different things like that.
• 58:05
Speaker 2: And Tracy, she's also a huge bitch my dog. I mean,
• 58:09
Speaker 2: do we really know what dogs are thinking? And do
• 58:11
  Speaker 2: we really care? I don't.
• 58:13
Speaker 3: Sometimes I care too much, I think, But it's like
• 58:15
Speaker 3: what could they possibly be thinking?
• 58:18
Speaker 2: Not much, I'll tell you that what are they thinking?
• 58:20
Speaker 3: They forget people when they're gone, and they remember you
• 58:23
Speaker 3: when you come back, so there can't be a big
• 58:25
Speaker 3: margin of thinking, you know what I mean. They're like,
• 58:27
Speaker 3: votes you again, I'm excited.
• 58:28
Speaker 2: To see you, and then three minutes later they're over it.
• 58:31
Speaker 2: So it's like if nothing matters real, it doesn't know
• 58:34
Speaker 2: it nothing does matter.
• 58:35
Speaker 3: All right, Adam Rappan, I can't believe we finally got
• 58:38
Speaker 3: the pronunciation of your name right. You wouldn't think it
• 58:40
Speaker 3: would be that confounding. It's r ippo, n.
• 58:43
Speaker 5: I know, but in our English of today, we don't
• 58:47
Speaker 5: go hard on with that.
• 58:50
Speaker 2: That are we go in Yeah, that's true and any
• 58:55
Speaker 2: other thing. Thank you for the.
• 58:57
Speaker 3: Donuts, the gluten free donuts specifically, even though I'm not gluten.
• 58:59
Speaker 2: For I really enjoyed it, but you went to it
• 59:02
Speaker 2: immediately because I wanted to be higher.
• 59:04
Speaker 3: I was like, that's better than a real donut, you
• 59:05
Speaker 3: know what I mean, I better take the gluten free one.
• 59:09
Speaker 2: You can listen to Adam's podcast.
• 59:11
Speaker 3: It's called The run Through, and he gave us a
• 59:13
Speaker 3: real nice slice of that's in today's episode. I am
• 59:16
Speaker 3: definitely going to be listening to it. And thank you
• 59:18
Speaker 3: for coming. I'm my friends were very excited that I
• 59:21
Speaker 3: was having you on my podcast, and now I understand why.
• 59:23
Speaker 2: And I'm so glad I'm more familiar with you.
• 59:25
Speaker 5: I'm so glad to be You're so cute familiar with you.
• 59:28
Speaker 5: You're also so cute. I'll also say that thank you.
• 59:32
Speaker 5: I also have another podcast. Called intrusive thoughts of course,
• 59:35
Speaker 5: if you don't want to listen to anything that's not
• 59:37
Speaker 5: solely figure skating related. Because I don't talk about getting
• 59:40
Speaker 5: your head smashed in at Spago all the time.
• 59:43
  Speaker 2: You know, it's.
• 59:43
Speaker 3: How can although that could be a recurring theme for
• 59:46
Speaker 3: a podcast, it's judging by what's going on at Spago.
• 59:50
Speaker 2: Yeah, so in truth of thoughts you talk more about
• 59:52
Speaker 2: like there is kind of like everything. Yeah thoughts.
• 59:57
Speaker 1: I did enjoy your sun flowers have too many muscles,
• 59:59
  Speaker 1: and that's I don't like that.
• 1:00:00
Speaker 2: Don't they look strong? Totally?
• 1:00:02
  Speaker 7: Right?
• 1:00:02
  Speaker 6: Yeah?
• 1:00:03
Speaker 2: I just I did a feel to win. Dancing with
• 1:00:05
  Speaker 2: the Stars.
• 1:00:06
Speaker 5: Felt good, Chelsea, real good, real fucking good.
• 1:00:11
Speaker 2: How did you celebrate something like that?
• 1:00:12
Speaker 5: Well, it was like a whirlwind because it was like
• 1:00:15
Speaker 5: right after the Olympics. So I celebrated at first by
• 1:00:18
Speaker 5: losing like ten pounds, which I didn't even know I
• 1:00:20
Speaker 5: could like lose still after like the Olympics, and so
• 1:00:24
Speaker 5: it was at an all time low weight wise, all
• 1:00:27
Speaker 5: time high win wise.
• 1:00:29
Speaker 2: But that seems like a win win. It was a win.
• 1:00:31
Speaker 3: I mean, as a gay man, aren't you just excited
• 1:00:33
Speaker 3: to be losing weight?
• 1:00:34
Speaker 2: I think as a gay man.
• 1:00:35
Speaker 5: You're always excited to be focused on your weight whatever
• 1:00:37
Speaker 5: it is, high, low, dangerous.
• 1:00:40
Speaker 2: Yeah, but what did you do to celebrate? You didn't
• 1:00:42
Speaker 2: answer that question. I don't think I did an anything.
• 1:00:45
Speaker 3: No, really, you win Dancing with the Stars and you
• 1:00:47
Speaker 3: don't go out and like have a night or I.
• 1:00:50
  Speaker 2: Mean maybe I did that. I don't have a cupcake,
• 1:00:53
  Speaker 2: a donut. I think I a sidecar, don't gluten free. Maybe,
• 1:00:58
Speaker 2: I mean, if that's what it has to come down,
• 1:01:00
Speaker 2: I think so. I mean it was like I was
• 1:01:02
Speaker 2: so tired at that point, like it was.
• 1:01:04
Speaker 5: It was right after the Olympics too, and so I
• 1:01:07
Speaker 5: think I just took a good old nat and I
• 1:01:09
Speaker 5: was literally like inch thick of like spray tan too.
• 1:01:15
Speaker 5: Oh it's amazing. I go to sleep, you wake up,
• 1:01:17
Speaker 5: you look down shroud of Turin. It's like just it
• 1:01:20
Speaker 5: was a biblical experience of being bat tan.
• 1:01:23
Speaker 2: I would have really looked like Steve Harvey. Wow, what
• 1:01:25
Speaker 2: sounds like you really have a thing for Steve Harvey today.
• 1:01:27
  Speaker 5: I do because I'm looking and I'm like, I should
• 1:01:29
  Speaker 5: host family feud.
• 1:01:30
Speaker 2: When I see myself, maybe will.
• 1:01:32
Speaker 3: Host family feud. Let's put that on your vision board. Okay, Okay,
