- 1:01>> Can I intercede just for a second? Well,
- 1:04a brown cabbage roll.
- 1:06>> Doodoo brown.
- 1:07>> A brown cabbage roll.
- 1:08>> It makes me think of a PEI potato. Bud
- 1:11the spud from the bright red mud.
- 1:14[laughter]
- 1:14>> Ain't easy.
- 1:15>> Edward Island. Prince Edward Island.
- 1:17>> Oh, please. Uh, show us your gator.
- 1:20>> Is it a gator? I thought it was a
- 1:21lizard.
- 1:22>> Well, no. Gator gets a little walking
- 1:23around money and he goes crazy.
- 1:25[laughter]
- 1:25Jamie, what did you say you wanted to do
- 1:27with that?
- 1:27>> Does that thing double up as a puff
- 1:29ring?
- 1:30>> Maybe for some people.
- 1:31>> Definitely not the Irish.
- 1:32>> Make it bigger.
- 1:34>> The [laughter] Irish. That is not going.
- 1:38>> Yeah. We're just going to shoot the
- 1:39[ __ ] talk about whatever. And uh this
- 1:41is our first podcast here right here in
- 1:44Chesterfield, Missouri. We're going to
- 1:46be doing this every single week. So, you
- 1:48know, it's going to be all five of us
- 1:49one day. Maybe just a couple of us.
- 1:51We're going to get guests coming on. We
- 1:52got all kinds of different guests, not
- 1:53just hockey guys. Exactly.
- 1:55>> We got a lot of different interests. We
- 1:57love hockey. Of course, we will have
- 1:58some really cool hockey people that come
- 2:00on here, but we have other interests,
- 2:02too. Like whether it's musicians,
- 2:04doctors, lawyers, like whatever it is,
- 2:06we're going to try and dive into as
- 2:07much. And we might get laughs in here,
- 2:10we might get tears in here, we might
- 2:12have people who exchange some strong
- 2:13opinions, but that's what we're here
- 2:15for.
- 2:16>> I'm sure you're for sure you're getting
- 2:17that.
- 2:17>> We're I believe there'll be a sex
- 2:19therapist on, too.
- 2:20>> That's never a bad idea, too. I know you
- 2:22guys have a history of making people
- 2:23cry, so that'll definitely happen.
- 2:25>> Do it.
- 2:27>> You're making me cry with that uniform.
- 2:29>> That's great.
- 2:31>> Watching you get out of the truck this
- 2:32morning was great. [laughter]
- 2:33>> I'm like, no doubt.
- 2:35>> The energy.
- 2:35>> I think it'd be fun just to find out how
- 2:39we have all gotten to this point. Like
- 2:40we know the hockey and we played all for
- 2:42the Blues and whatnot, but like how we
- 2:44met each other originally. Cuz like Sup,
- 2:46I we have a funny story.
- 2:47>> Yes. and and super you tell your side of
- 2:50it
- 2:50>> if I can remember
- 2:51>> why because
- 2:52>> I can't really I remember some of it
- 2:54psych train no when we're on the
- 2:56>> choo train the dance floor across the
- 2:58floor
- 2:58>> that was when we were in the blues
- 2:59[laughter]
- 3:00we're playing in the minors
- 3:01>> okay yes so I was in Baltimore the
- 3:04Baltimore bandits
- 3:05>> yeah they're no longer around is playing
- 3:07for the Ice Cats I was doing my thing
- 3:09kind of Yep with a state charges a
- 3:12dollar 2525 [laughter]
- 3:15>> so anyways I was stretching the blue
- 3:17line trying to get a breakaway, doing my
- 3:19[laughter] thing. RZ comes up and slash
- 3:21two hands me.
- 3:23>> You don't know each other.
- 3:24>> No, never never met each other.
- 3:25>> This guy's behind me for half the first
- 3:27period. I'm like, I'm done with this
- 3:28[ __ ]
- 3:28>> Playing my game. I'm doing my thing. I'm
- 3:30like, whoa, whoa, whoa. I didn't look at
- 3:32Who is this guy? I'm like, buddy, calm
- 3:34down. [laughter] Like, let me go out
- 3:37here. I'll do my thing. I'll get a
- 3:38breakaway and get a goal. Next shift,
- 3:40I'll let you go. I'll miss my defensive
- 3:42coverage. You go back to You'll get a
- 3:44goal. We'll both be in the NHL next
- 3:46week. You're negotiating [laughter] this
- 3:47deal. I'm not kidding.
- 3:48>> During a shift,
- 3:50>> during a shift?
- 3:51>> I'm not kidding you. I [ __ ] slashed
- 3:53this guy. And he looks at me. He goes,
- 3:54he goes, "WHOA, WHOA, WHOA." He goes,
- 3:56>> "Can we just get along out here?" And
- 3:58I'm like, "Okay." At this point, I'm
- 3:59like, "What the hell is this guy doing?"
- 4:01>> Confused.
- 4:01>> Then he says to me, just like, I mean,
- 4:03verbatim, he goes, "Hey, hey, hey,
- 4:05here's how it works. You let me go on a
- 4:07breakaway. I score a goal. Next time
- 4:09we're in the defensive zone, I let you
- 4:10go. You score a goal. We're both in the
- 4:13show by the end OF NEXT WEEK." RIGHT?
- 4:15GENIUS. It's genius.
- 4:16>> Sure as [ __ ] We were both in the show
- 4:18like a week later. Like come on. I'm not
- 4:20lying.
- 4:21>> And I'm like, then he got signed by the
- 4:23Blues and we didn't really know each
- 4:25other. We're staying in the same hotel
- 4:27for training camp and then I think we're
- 4:29at Westport and we're at some bar and
- 4:32you know, come over the train
- 4:34and they had like the conga line going.
- 4:36I'm watching these people and then like
- 4:38four people in I mean he's like
- 4:39[laughter]
- 4:42>> I was like, "Okay, I like this guy.
- 4:44[laughter] How old were you guys at this
- 4:45time?
- 4:46>> 23.
- 4:48>> I was think I was 21.
- 4:49>> Yeah, I'm 53 now. I'm 52 years old now.
- 4:51Yeah. Two years older than me.
- 4:52>> Subie was blowing that [ __ ] on me 17
- 4:54years later when I was in the minors.
- 4:56>> Cutting deals.
- 4:57>> Cutting deals, baby.
- 4:57>> He tried to ask me in a fight.
- 4:59>> He asked me to fight the first time we
- 5:00played him.
- 5:01>> WHAT DO YOU EXPECT? I'M LIKE, I COACHED
- 5:02THIS. I was just going to [ __ ] around.
- 5:05>> Fight.
- 5:05>> Yeah, that's great.
- 5:07>> We're in We're in Albany. I'm playing
- 5:08It's a lockout year. I'm playing in
- 5:10Hershey. I
- 5:10>> 94.
- 5:11>> No, 040. This is the lock I've been in
- 5:14the league for a long time now and we've
- 5:16known each other.
- 5:16>> I'm playing in the American League.
- 5:18>> Hold on. Your first game together
- 5:19>> against each other?
- 5:20>> I mean, and Okay, go ahead.
- 5:22>> So, he was a kid. I coached him here
- 5:24with the the Sting. [laughter] And then
- 5:26I see him out there playing for Albany.
- 5:29And I'm in Hershey. I don't want to be
- 5:30in the American Hockey League, but I got
- 5:32to make some money.
- 5:32>> Oh, no.
- 5:33>> And this kid all fired up like snot
- 5:36rockets coming up. [laughter]
- 5:38>> And he's like, he's like, "Hey,
- 5:40>> it's like that.
- 5:41>> WE GOING? WE GOING?" I'M LIKE, THE [ __ ]
- 5:43are you talking about? I go, "Hey,
- 5:45Dennis Bony's on the bench. You can deal
- 5:47with him." I'm like, "I'm not fighting
- 5:48this guy."
- 5:50>> So then he tried to run me. It's okay.
- 5:52Get out of the way.
- 5:53>> What do I [clears throat] What am I
- 5:54supposed to do? Not do that. Like I got
- 5:56to do it. I got to do your job.
- 5:58>> It wasn't It wasn't shame. I
- 5:59>> remember wiping your ass for you.
- 6:01>> Can I ask this one question? Did you
- 6:03think about You knew what you were going
- 6:05to do? Were you thinking about him
- 6:06before the game? Cuz everybody I don't
- 6:08care any guy who scraps in the game.
- 6:11Lozy, you got one. Except for you.
- 6:13>> I had like 10.
- 6:16>> DID ANYBODY HEAR FRANKIE the animal? Did
- 6:19anybody here fight Frankie the animal?
- 6:20>> He did.
- 6:21>> I did too.
- 6:22>> Yeah. Okay. Now he did.
- 6:24>> I did. You
- 6:25>> both got kicked out.
- 6:26>> Sergey Creassov still because of you.
- 6:29>> Thank you. He tried to butt in me right
- 6:30in the eyeball. Got him right. Got me
- 6:32here. I fought him every game since
- 6:33then.
- 6:33>> Yeah. You You fought him.
- 6:35>> Fought. I instigated the fight every
- 6:36time.
- 6:37>> Okay.
- 6:37>> Dang, boy. Yeah, because he almost took
- 6:39my eyeball out. got me hit butt enemy
- 6:42right in the against the rules.
- 6:43>> That's right.
- 6:44>> He was crazy, too.
- 6:45>> Big time crazy.
- 6:46>> Yeah.
- 6:46>> Were you thinking about ribs before the
- 6:48game?
- 6:50>> So, you were Yeah. So, you had already
- 6:51manufacturing who you were going to in
- 6:54order to go after.
- 6:55>> Well, if Bomb's out there, I'm probably
- 6:56going to fight him first, but I was
- 6:57probably just bullshitting Jamie, you
- 6:58know, like, let's do it. You know, I
- 7:00know he didn't want to be there.
- 7:02>> I'm just getting up. I'm like, this is
- 7:04during a lockout. If this comes near me,
- 7:07I'm gonna [ __ ]
- 7:07>> But I did I know you're gonna cross
- 7:09check me my fate and I didn't want to
- 7:10deal with that. [laughter]
- 7:11>> So I I was just bullshitting him.
- 7:13>> It was funny.
- 7:15>> It was more of a funny moment than a
- 7:16serious moment.
- 7:17>> But he would have he would have
- 7:18>> Oh, HE WOULD HAVE FOUGHT. YEAH,
- 7:20>> PROBABLY. But
- 7:21>> I would have fought him. The door
- 7:22opened. He was going to
- 7:23>> But that's not going to happen. I would
- 7:24have cross-cheed him in the face.
- 7:25>> Right in the face.
- 7:26>> There's no I if I get suspended for 10
- 7:27games in the American League during the
- 7:28lockout year, I don't get
- 7:29>> No, I WANTED YOU TO NO, JAMIE. I wanted
- 7:32you to cross check me and knock my teeth
- 7:34out and I'd have [ __ ] pearly whites
- 7:36put in and they would have paid for it.
- 7:37Now my teeth are brown and I can't
- 7:39afford to get the pearly whites. So you
- 7:41should have knocked them out back in the
- 7:42day.
- 7:42>> Toothbrush.
- 7:43>> I got one of these. [laughter]
- 7:45>> Those were those were late to Hey, those
- 7:47were late to Eureka. But
- 7:48>> you guys always know where I live
- 7:50through these bad boys.
- 7:52>> It's like breadcrumbs everywhere I go. I
- 7:54got I got to use these bad boys right
- 7:55here.
- 7:55>> They make them with a little brush on
- 7:57the end of them, too.
- 7:57>> Yeah. No, I got those, too.
- 7:59>> How do you floss your ass with that? Uh,
- 8:01easily actually just put it up there and
- 8:04floss it. Okay. And then I use with your
- 8:06teeth and then uh I drop it on the
- 8:08ground and you know where I live.
- 8:09>> Well, so put that address out there.
- 8:12[laughter]
- 8:13>> Lozi, did you play against any of these
- 8:15guys in the minor leagues?
- 8:16>> Uh, played with Soup. Uh,
- 8:18>> another great story.
- 8:19>> 99 2000. Uh, I was the last cut from the
- 8:23Blues that year. They picked Terry Jacob
- 8:25off waivers. So I got sent to the
- 8:26miners. I was pissed. Uh, they had
- 8:28Chaser still played that year. That's
- 8:30the year they won the the President's
- 8:32Trophy and he got sent down couple games
- 8:35into the season for whatever reason. And
- 8:38you know, typically a guy's making a
- 8:39million bucks gets sent to the minor,
- 8:41he's going to be pretty pissed off.
- 8:42[laughter] Snoop in to the LIKE, HEY,
- 8:45>> HERE TO PLAY a
- 8:46>> million dollars. No problem. [laughter]
- 8:49>> I'm like, I've never seen a guy here get
- 8:51sent to the miners like my hometown,
- 8:52too.
- 8:53>> He's like, he's going to his hometown.
- 8:54He's making a million bucks. He's like,
- 8:56whatever. Right.
- 8:57>> It worked out good. So Soup was a great
- 8:59teammate even though he hadn't changed
- 9:01anything. He was at the far blue light
- 9:02the whole time. Greg Gilbert's losing
- 9:04his [ __ ] every other game going, "What?"
- 9:06Gibby was my first.
- 9:07>> Everybody has a different style. We all
- 9:09have different styles.
- 9:10>> Subie and I learned to make magic with
- 9:12that style. Once we got I got to know
- 9:13what he was doing. We just look at each
- 9:15other and we know and I we go D to D and
- 9:17he would just blow the zone. I be
- 9:19>> little.
- 9:21Are you talking about on the ice or off
- 9:23the ice?
- 9:23>> Both. [laughter]
- 9:26checking disrous. Yes. Okay, good. I
- 9:29didn't know if you were playing
- 9:30metaphors in the game of hockey for
- 9:32other things.
- 9:32>> No. Well, good.
- 9:35>> We got to ease into those stories.
- 9:36>> What's what what story we show how you
- 9:39guys
- 9:40>> together? How I put you in the NHL?
- 9:42>> Um, [laughter]
- 9:43>> you're welcome.
- 9:44>> Thank you. S put me in the NHL. Uh, we
- 9:47were the one story that kind of I
- 9:49remember from the from that season. Uh,
- 9:51we were on the road in Manchester and so
- 9:53we had our blue ice cat jerseys on and
- 9:56I'm getting prepped before the game. You
- 9:58know, I'm not really paying attention to
- 10:00what's going on around me. Get my jersey
- 10:02on. Go out there for warm up.
- 10:03>> Worcester ice catch.
- 10:04>> We're the Worcester ice cor.
- 10:07Welcome to Worester where the stage edi
- 10:14I'm skating around the ice and I'm like
- 10:17>> like their team's laughing. The coaches
- 10:20are all laughing. Oh god. My team's all
- 10:23laughing. I'm like, "What the [ __ ] is
- 10:24going on here?"
- 10:26>> So anyways, Brent Johnson's our goalie
- 10:27and he skates up to me. He's like, "I
- 10:29can't do this anymore." And he pulls
- 10:30something off my back and stupid taken a
- 10:33white piece of tape and made it an S and
- 10:35put it on my jersey [laughter]
- 10:37slow on it.
- 10:38>> The font was perfect.
- 10:40>> The font was perfect. Everybody's dying
- 10:42laughing. I got slow [laughter] on my
- 10:44back
- 10:44>> on a game day in warmup.
- 10:47>> In warmup. [laughter]
- 10:49>> In warmup. I got two goals and an assist
- 10:51that day and then I went I got I had
- 10:53like I don't know eight or 10 points the
- 10:54next 12 15 games. They were calling me
- 10:56millennium man low all this other crap.
- 10:58>> The other team saw you at that everybody
- 11:01got worse. So every game when he gets
- 11:03two goals and assists continue on but
- 11:05have a next game.
- 11:05>> So next game he taped a hockey card to
- 11:07the front of my helmet and I DIDN'T PAY
- 11:08ATTENTION LIKE YOU KNOW YOU TAKE YOUR
- 11:11HELMET.
- 11:11>> You got in twice.
- 11:12>> Oh like six times
- 11:13>> dude.
- 11:15There was bubble gum bubblegum rappers
- 11:17t, you know, to taped to my pants and
- 11:19just [laughter]
- 11:20and he just would not let it go. And
- 11:22finally I threatened his life and said,
- 11:24"Okay, enough's enough. I've had enough
- 11:25of this."
- 11:26>> You got it six times.
- 11:27>> It went on for about 3 weeks.
- 11:29>> So you were living up to the first S.
- 11:30You were part time.
- 11:32>> Absolutely.
- 11:33>> Right here on the front. It was
- 11:36>> Whose hockey card?
- 11:36>> Mine. [laughter]
- 11:40>> He taped his hockey card to the front of
- 11:41my helmet and I went
- 11:42>> game day again.
- 11:43>> Yeah.
- 11:43>> In warm up. This was warm up warm-ups
- 11:46and everybody. How long did you How long
- 11:49before you let him off the hook?
- 11:50>> Halfway through the warm up. Someone
- 11:51>> halfway the other team with that
- 11:53[laughter] too%.
- 11:55>> That's freaking awesome.
- 11:56>> Oh yeah, dude. That's all you were
- 11:58missing.
- 11:58>> Get a pocket card on you.
- 12:00>> Somebody do that in the NHL for you.
- 12:04>> So he didn't never look at the front of
- 12:06the He never looked at the [laughter]
- 12:07front of the uh
- 12:08>> helmet. Oh my god.
- 12:10>> Excuse me. That's like the number. What
- 12:13a rookie. We have our first
- 12:14>> That's a rookie podcast.
- 12:16>> You're a rookie podcast can't answer
- 12:18right now. [laughter]
- 12:21>> I had to think.
- 12:22>> So what? So yeah, Bubblegum, the hockey
- 12:25card, a slozy.
- 12:26>> Yeah, that's about it.
- 12:29>> I can't remember. It was
- 12:30>> there was some repeat offenses, another
- 12:31hockey card, and then I just started to
- 12:33pick up on I started looking at my gear,
- 12:34you know.
- 12:35>> Well,
- 12:36produced.
- 12:37>> I know. I know there's a couple guys
- 12:38that know what it's like to get ready
- 12:39for a hockey game when you're a tough
- 12:41guy. And whether or not there's a hockey
- 12:43card in the front of my helmet, it's not
- 12:45part of like what's going on after you
- 12:47beat me down for a couple of weeks. And
- 12:49then and how do you get mad at this guy
- 12:50cuz he's over in the corner going
- 12:52[laughter]
- 12:53and you're just like, I want to kill
- 12:54you, but you make me laugh too, you
- 12:57donkey. Like [laughter]
- 12:58>> it's tough.
- 12:58>> It's a good combo.
- 13:00>> Although it does become a pain in the
- 13:01ass getting pranked every [ __ ] day.
- 13:03>> Then you're just like your head's on a
- 13:04swivel.
- 13:05>> Once after after about 3 weeks, it
- 13:07wasn't funny anymore. So, we went on and
- 13:10I had a great year that year. I had like
- 13:1230 points and 250 50 minutes.
- 13:14>> There are some pranks though that [ __ ]
- 13:15some guys up like somebody
- 13:18>> Well, some of them are mean spirits.
- 13:19>> Well, some somebody even during alumni
- 13:21skate back in the day when I was young
- 13:23skating with you guys in alumni.
- 13:25Somebody put a [ __ ] tape on my
- 13:27blades.
- 13:28>> Oh, yeah.
- 13:28>> So, that [ __ ] you up. You go on the
- 13:30ice, you don't know it, and allape clear
- 13:32tape on the bottom of the skate. like
- 13:34now I pulled my goddamn growing because
- 13:36somebody and no I couldn't find out who
- 13:37it was. They locked that thing down and
- 13:40I'm like damn man I that that [ __ ] me
- 13:42up a little bit.
- 13:43>> We had um when I was with the Islanders
- 13:46>> yeah I like to pull pranks and whatnot.
- 13:48Little pranks but I was running late one
- 13:50time for practice New York traffic. I'm
- 13:52like I get to the rink I'm struggling.
- 13:55Guys are already getting on the ice. I'm
- 13:56just arriving
- 13:57>> and I go to put my skates on and of
- 13:59course the laces are cut. I'm like, now
- 14:02the trainers were solid. They met me in
- 14:04like the the change room, the back door,
- 14:06so the coaches couldn't see me come in.
- 14:08I get all my stuff. Like I start
- 14:10dressing in the back room so it looked
- 14:12like I was already dressed and I was
- 14:13coming out of there. Put my skates on.
- 14:15The laces snap. No big deal. So I go out
- 14:18with no laces. Take a little bit of a
- 14:20half lap. Can manage go. Ah, there's
- 14:22something wrong with my skates. Go to
- 14:23the bench and lace. [laughter] I find
- 14:25out through the grape vines. Gino Ojik
- 14:27who did it.
- 14:27>> Oh, Gino. Rest in peace.
- 14:29>> Yeah. Rest in peace. love Gino. But I
- 14:32was so pissed off that the next day I
- 14:35called a buddy of mine, this guy named
- 14:36Mike Zakardi on Long Island. He had a
- 14:38buddy who owned a like a garage. Had a
- 14:40tow truck. While we're at practice, I
- 14:42had them come take all the tires off
- 14:44Gino's car and put it on blocks.
- 14:46>> Nice.
- 14:46>> And I hid the tires all around the rink
- 14:49and I had a note to each one with clues
- 14:51for each tire. HE WAS THERE TILL 4:00 IN
- 14:54THE AFTERNOON GETTING HIS TIRES.
- 14:55[laughter]
- 14:55>> DID YOU WRITE THOSE IN CRAYON? YEAH,
- 14:57because if he had written my crayon, he
- 14:59wouldn't have understood. Needless to
- 15:01say, I didn't get pranked again.
- 15:04>> Like, no.
- 15:04>> So, time is like, "Stop." You know what
- 15:06I mean?
- 15:06>> The prank doesn't always need to be
- 15:09acknowledged by anybody but you. So, I'm
- 15:11the I like to do things to to you know,
- 15:14you know, entertain myself. We're in New
- 15:16York and we're practicing on the Well,
- 15:20there was a rink there that was on the
- 15:21water. Do you remember?
- 15:22>> Yeah. Yeah. The on the pier there,
- 15:23Chelsea.
- 15:24>> Yeah. That Chelsea Pier, is that what
- 15:25it's called? So, Do you remember the guy
- 15:27who played uh in that movie Shaw Shank?
- 15:30>> Yeah, Tim Robbins. We were on the same
- 15:31team together. Was on that team too.
- 15:33>> Yeah. So that now did you know that I
- 15:36cut his laces?
- 15:37>> No, I didn't know about that.
- 15:37>> So he was he was Oscar award.
- 15:40>> Okay. So
- 15:42>> I It was And this guy is 6' freaking
- 15:45He's a monster, boys.
- 15:46>> Andy Dra and he's out skating and you
- 15:49know you know and he knew that we were
- 15:51coming in. I went to say hi or whatever.
- 15:53He just brushed me off. I go, "All
- 15:55right. Well, that's how that works.
- 15:56Okay. So, you know, Ray's unloaded all
- 15:59the stuff and he's got he's in a
- 16:00dressing room all by himself and he's
- 16:02still on the ice. So, I I I cut his
- 16:05shoelace, you know, one of his shoelaces
- 16:07and I glued one of his shoes to the
- 16:09floor
- 16:09>> and I cut a thing out of his zipper. So,
- 16:13we're all he gets off the ice and I
- 16:16don't tell anybody. And there's, you
- 16:17know, Mr. Defrain trying to get dressed
- 16:19and you could I could hear him. Mother,
- 16:23what the hell? And I go, I'll teach you
- 16:25for not shaking my head and just indul
- 16:26[laughter]
- 16:28me.
- 16:28>> You low life actor you.
- 16:30>> And I was laughing so hard in the
- 16:32dressing room. I was
- 16:33>> I didn't know you did that.
- 16:34>> Oh, Fuzzy. Cuz Fuzzy sat beside me all
- 16:36night. It was Fuzy. I was fury. I don't
- 16:38know who the freak it was. It could have
- 16:39been Fuzzy. Why you laughing, Twister? I
- 16:42go,
- 16:42>> can't even tell you. [laughter] Can't
- 16:44even tell you. That's the first I told
- 16:46Jason that story. I think that's about
- 16:49I've never told anybody else, which I
- 16:50thought was hilarious.
- 16:51>> I can't believe I didn't know about
- 16:52that.
- 16:53Wait, he's calling in right now. Andy
- 16:55Defrain is calling in right now.
- 16:57>> A tall drink of water.
- 16:58>> He's online, too.
- 16:59>> He's a huge Auggie fan though, man. You
- 17:01got to respect that. Like,
- 17:02>> is there anybody else feeling the
- 17:03earthquake over there? Every time
- 17:05Twister like goes like this, drops his
- 17:07absolute hands on here. IT'S LIKE HULK
- 17:10SMASH.
- 17:12>> Oh boy. [laughter] Like he's got those
- 17:14bought at Walmart like this. All the
- 17:16water just
- 17:17>> May I just say this, Jamie? [laughter]
- 17:19Yesterday, we were talking. I go, "Good
- 17:21job." up and I put my hand on her and I
- 17:23go, "Oh my god, I'm so sorry."
- 17:26[laughter]
- 17:26>> Just beating the We're going to need
- 17:28some reinfor
- 17:31the table there. [laughter]
- 17:32>> Like I I got a a skate cutting story
- 17:36that was happening to me. You remember
- 17:37Chris Kennedy?
- 17:38>> Yes.
- 17:39>> Oh yeah. Yeah. With the Rangers
- 17:41>> under the bed.
- 17:42>> He uh he he what?
- 17:43>> Under the bed somewhere. He did
- 17:45something crazy.
- 17:46>> Whispering under the mic and the mic
- 17:48right here. Still going to pick you up.
- 17:50Zoom [laughter]
- 17:51pocket. So they can't read my lips.
- 17:55>> So he was hing on the bed.
- 17:57>> Offensive coordinator. [laughter]
- 17:59>> YELLOW ZIPPER FLY SEVEN.
- 18:02>> But he kept cutting my laces every day
- 18:04and it wasn't fun. Like I was a rookie.
- 18:06He was douchebag. He like
- 18:09>> he had he had that in him.
- 18:10>> If Gibby like if we did our you know the
- 18:12three lines where you skate down, pass
- 18:14it across, drive to the net, all the
- 18:15different things that he did with us. He
- 18:17he would like fire the puck so hard that
- 18:20nobody could and then we'd have to stop
- 18:21and go back and do it again and do it
- 18:23again like everything. So finally after
- 18:25a while like I kind of went after him at
- 18:27practice and everyone's like no you
- 18:29can't whatever. So he stopped doing it
- 18:31three year two years two years later.
- 18:34>> Uh we were at a line brawl. I was in
- 18:35Worcester and we were we had a line
- 18:37brawl in Hartford and he was with the
- 18:38Wolfpack and I was like
- 18:41>> yeah [snorts]
- 18:42get him.
- 18:42>> Oh [ __ ] get him. grabbed him and
- 18:44heard that predator sounds in the
- 18:47background
- 18:49>> and he knew it too.
- 18:50>> Tobacco was hungry that night.
- 18:52[laughter]
- 18:52>> He didn't sleep that afternoon.
- 18:53>> Did you give it to him?
- 18:54>> Oh, just like rented me.
- 18:57>> Just beat him down.
- 18:58>> We should got it on VHS. [laughter]
- 19:02>> I had to You had to find a way to like
- 19:04to fight to do it to where you're doing
- 19:06it like we did. But uh I didn't love
- 19:09fighting like I didn't love the the
- 19:11feeling of like I wasn't
- 19:14I didn't want to fight. I just wanted to
- 19:15fight. I wanted to make the NHL more
- 19:17than I didn't want to fight, if that
- 19:18makes sense. Right. And uh but after
- 19:21that one, oh [ __ ]
- 19:23>> it was so good.
- 19:24>> So like three years of RETRIBUTION LIKE,
- 19:27OH, I just pounded through. Yeah. Get
- 19:29you.
- 19:30>> So you guys, I'm sure you've heard I
- 19:31think I told the one night when we did
- 19:33the event at Rack House, like my first
- 19:35time interacting with Twister, first
- 19:36time ever is 1993,
- 19:40I think, or maybe 94. Brentwood Ice
- 19:43Rink, the old like not the what it is
- 19:44now, like the old thing. And we have the
- 19:47we had like three locker rooms because
- 19:48they
- 19:49>> 94 95.
- 19:50>> Okay. We didn't have like a big locker
- 19:52room. You had to break it up into three
- 19:54spots for training camp
- 19:55>> and it's my second NHL training camp and
- 19:59like I I'm coming off a pretty good year
- 20:01and I'm like, "Okay, it's time to make
- 20:03this team." Like enough like I I don't
- 20:05want to go back to junior. I want to
- 20:06make this team. And so I remember my
- 20:08brother getting me all fired up. my dad
- 20:10too like, "Hey, first time somebody
- 20:12[ __ ] with you, just just [ __ ] beat
- 20:14the [ __ ] out of you because they saw
- 20:16that you put up like a 100 points, you
- 20:17know, the season." Now they like show
- 20:19like, "Okay, [ __ ] Let's go." Like I
- 20:21don't give a [ __ ] So Twister is in
- 20:24training camp that year. Now Twister is
- 20:26not a extremely tall guy and you got to
- 20:28remember on the ice he's not wearing any
- 20:30shoulder pads or barely anything and
- 20:32everybody else wearing shoulder pads. So
- 20:33you can like guys are bigger, you know.
- 20:35He didn't look very big. I know it's
- 20:37hard to believe. He didn't look very
- 20:38big. It's hard to believe.
- 20:39>> And I make a pass like D to D. You know,
- 20:41you make your pass kind of following
- 20:42your pass a little bit. I see him
- 20:43coming. I'm like, "Okay, whatever." And
- 20:44he kind of finishes me like two or three
- 20:46seconds late. So, I'm like in my head,
- 20:48I'm like, "It's go time." I like cross
- 20:51check him in the back as he's skating
- 20:52away. And he turns around and looks at
- 20:55me and I'm like, "Okay." Like, "This is
- 20:56this what we're doing." And he goes
- 21:00[laughter] and skates away. And I'm
- 21:02like, "Yeah, that's right, PUSSY."
- 21:04YOU'RE LIKE, "YEAH, YEAH." YEAH. YEAH.
- 21:05>> And he's like looks back and one more
- 21:07shoulder check and he must have known
- 21:09like that I was more of an offensive
- 21:10defenseman at the time. Anyways, and I
- 21:13get back to the bench and Basil McCrae
- 21:15is on my team. He shimies down, pops me
- 21:18in the side of the head. [ __ ] your
- 21:20problem. He's like, "Hey, [ __ ] you
- 21:22get him riled up. I've got to fight for
- 21:24you."
- 21:24>> Exactly.
- 21:25>> I'm like, "I'll fight him." HE SAID,
- 21:26"DON'T GO NEAR THAT GUY." [laughter] SO,
- 21:28I'M LIKE, "OKAY, FINE. WHATEVER." At the
- 21:30same time though, let him sleep.
- 21:31>> Like, I'm young. I got balls big enough
- 21:33to come in a dump
- 21:33>> and you were what round draft pick?
- 21:35>> Third, second pick for the year, but and
- 21:37I'm like, okay, like I'm not afraid.
- 21:39Like I'm going to show these guys.
- 21:41Anyways, we don't end up fighting. Thank
- 21:42god. Uh we go to the train wreck after.
- 21:45>> I knew who you were. You didn't know who
- 21:47I was. That's weird. Weird. He's been in
- 21:49the game a long time at that point.
- 21:51>> I know. But at look, I knew of Tony
- 21:54Twist. I didn't know that was Tony. You
- 21:56don't didn't have the name plate. Didn't
- 21:58have the internet. We didn't have like
- 21:59>> No, I get you practice. Yeah,
- 22:01>> we get to the train wreck for we used to
- 22:03go for wings and beer. Imagine training
- 22:05camp. Wings and beer after the first
- 22:07hands.
- 22:07>> Oh, no.
- 22:08>> And sometimes twice.
- 22:09>> Well, you'd stay there for dinner and
- 22:10then stay there [laughter] for dinner.
- 22:12>> It was a day. And so Nelson Emerson
- 22:14drives me to train wreck. Nellie is one
- 22:17of the best dudes ever. And we walk in
- 22:20and we're kind of waiting to get the big
- 22:22table for all the guys. And there is
- 22:23this silverback gorilla chest out like
- 22:28huge chest paws dragging behind him big
- 22:31huge biceps. He walks by looking at now
- 22:34I go who the [ __ ] is that? He goes
- 22:35THAT'S THE GUY YOU WANTED TO FIGHT.
- 22:37[laughter] I'M LIKE oh [ __ ] So then we
- 22:40have a preseason game after I forget who
- 22:41we're playing and I forget who the hell
- 22:43he fought. He drops the gloves in the
- 22:45first period and beats the living piss
- 22:47out of this guy. And in the back of my
- 22:49head, I'm going,
- 22:50>> "Well, that was a good business decision
- 22:52not to get involved." Although, I didn't
- 22:54make the decision.
- 22:55>> I made the decision because I knew you
- 22:56were you this you were the second pick
- 22:59for the Blues. Yeah.
- 23:00>> Second [clears throat] pick for the
- 23:01Blues. And you're looking at I'm going
- 23:02to go this kid has got no
- 23:05freaking idea. That's why I just
- 23:07laughed. I mean, what what am I going to
- 23:09prove? I I'll end up I'll end up getting
- 23:12slapped over the knuckles for knocking
- 23:13out the second.
- 23:16You don't want his blood on your
- 23:17knuckles.
- 23:17>> Yeah, I know. Mine was a little
- 23:19different.
- 23:21[laughter]
- 23:22>> Go ahead. Take my blood.
- 23:26>> That one.
- 23:27>> I don't know if you were still there.
- 23:28>> I hadn't been there yet. I
- 23:30>> No, he was uh 95 96.
- 23:32>> Yeah, but he was
- 23:33>> What were you doing in '94 95?
- 23:34>> What year was your first train?
- 23:36>> 94 was the Olympics.
- 23:37>> 9798. He came after me in '98 99.
- 23:40>> Well, I was at that training camp. You
- 23:42You and Nasher kind of had it coming a
- 23:45little bit.
- 23:46>> No, I First off, I had nothing coming
- 23:49and I wasn't going near Chaser or
- 23:51Twister. I fought everybody else in camp
- 23:53and back then there was plenty of other
- 23:55guys to fight.
- 23:56>> Yeah, but you grabbed Chaser.
- 23:57>> No.
- 23:58>> Well, no, no, that's not because
- 24:01>> Nasher was out running around trying to
- 24:02get noticed, which Nasher should. He was
- 24:04on my team. Pavle Demetri and Chase were
- 24:06on the same team. I remember this. You
- 24:08and I were on the same team that night.
- 24:09>> He smoke he smoked uh Nashville or Nash
- 24:12just absolutely lit Pava up and Chaser
- 24:15came over and beat him up. And then the
- 24:17next shift they were in front of the
- 24:18bench and Chaser's working him again.
- 24:20And I'm like at the first one I'm like
- 24:22you want to go take after Pavl Demetria,
- 24:24I'm not sticking up for you. Yeah, but
- 24:26if you're going to keep if it's going to
- 24:27keep happening. So I just jumped over
- 24:29the boards. I stepped in front of him
- 24:30and I said you want to fight him, you
- 24:32got to go through me. And then I
- 24:34proceeded to, you know, have some fun
- 24:36with Chaser and apparently I did okay
- 24:38because this guy came after me.
- 24:40>> Well, the problem is this is the rumor
- 24:41that got around the the Hardy's Ice Plex
- 24:43at the time,
- 24:45>> the rumor that got around, true or not,
- 24:47doesn't matter, is that you kind of
- 24:49jumped chaser.
- 24:50>> And so then Tommy Boy over here,
- 24:54>> it was like and he was like,
- 24:56[clears throat]
- 24:57[laughter]
- 24:58and then for 24 [ __ ] hours, that's
- 25:00all he was thinking of. So for TV
- 25:02timeout, the rumor around the ring
- 25:05wasn't that I got I jumped Chaser.
- 25:07Chaser's rumor that around the ring
- 25:10because because he was carrying a black
- 25:11guy, you know, you're right. Could be a
- 25:14good
- 25:16That's where that rumor
- 25:18from our standpoint. We're not in that
- 25:20game.
- 25:21>> We're like up in the wait room or
- 25:22whatever and we hear this come funneling
- 25:24up. Oh, I get that. I was gone already.
- 25:26I was You're gone.
- 25:27>> I was gone. I was already back time in
- 25:29the wait room.
- 25:30>> Yeah, I was. You should have.
- 25:31>> But Bobby Pagger, Gibby, like I was in
- 25:34the dressing room cuz I had to get my
- 25:35hand fixed up. And they were all like,
- 25:37"Oh, that's awesome. Good job. GOOD
- 25:39LUCK.
- 25:40>> I'M FEELING I'M FEELING REALLY good
- 25:41about myself until dinner that night and
- 25:43everyone's like, "Dude, Twister is
- 25:45coming to get you." Cuz we had to play
- 25:46Twister to you guys the next day.
- 25:48>> Remember the next morning stretch?
- 25:49>> Yeah. He's not there. No motor no
- 25:52motorcycle in the in the You always used
- 25:53to put park your motorcycle in the
- 25:55Zamboni. You parked it around the other
- 25:57side. I'm like, "Baby's got the REED LOW
- 25:59FLU. [laughter] YEAH. NO. NO, he
- 26:02doesn't. He does not. He ate the reed
- 26:04lo.
- 26:05>> All by design. All by design.
- 26:07>> You hid your bike just as [ __ ]
- 26:09>> Oh, dude. I promise I hid my bike.
- 26:11Didn't come out for stretch. I mean, it
- 26:12was like I mean, it was like I didn't
- 26:14exist. Like the whole time I like I know
- 26:16you just I don't know whether to shoot
- 26:20this or steal third base. Like
- 26:21>> we were all like, "Oh shit." And then
- 26:23like nobody's talking to him cuz he
- 26:24don't want to talk to nobody. [snorts]
- 26:26And some people I know were trying to
- 26:28talk to you a little bit and you were
- 26:31obviously it would be like it's like
- 26:33prison, right? Like you know you're
- 26:34going out in the yard and someone's
- 26:35going to try to shank you. That's a bad
- 26:37feeling.
- 26:37>> Yeah. It's terrible. It was a terrible
- 26:39feeling.
- 26:39>> And and in training camp like twist
- 26:42twister, we're we're fourth liners.
- 26:44Okay. But in training camp, when you're
- 26:46a veteran, you're on the first line,
- 26:48right? It's all the NHL guys, then it's
- 26:50the minor league guys, and then it's the
- 26:51junior guys to try and keep camp fair.
- 26:54So the junior kids are playing with the
- 26:55junior kids, right? And so I'm thinking,
- 26:58you know, Twister's on the first line,
- 26:59I'm on the third line.
- 27:00>> First time for everything. [laughter]
- 27:02>> Maybe maybe we won't get out there
- 27:04against each other. Yeah, right. Yeah,
- 27:06right. As soon as I jumped over the
- 27:08boards, he jumped over the boards and
- 27:10yelled, "Oh, I turned around and his
- 27:12gloves weren't on." And I was like, "Do
- 27:14not let his right hand make contact with
- 27:17your face." That's
- 27:18>> tie him up.
- 27:19>> All I had in my mind. So I got him and
- 27:22he was We were spinning around. And we
- 27:23end up landing on the ground and I was
- 27:25down face first on the ice and kind of
- 27:28had my hands like this and Twister
- 27:30sitting on my back yelling
- 27:32>> and open hand cuffing my helmet, I'm the
- 27:35[ __ ] sheriff in this town, boy. And I
- 27:39just remember laying there arena.
- 27:42>> You are the sheriff and if you could
- 27:44just stop hitting me and get off me.
- 27:47Thank you. You win, man. Have another We
- 27:50can resolve this peacefully. We're in
- 27:51good shape here.
- 27:53Well, Twister got me into hockey, man.
- 27:55All these young kids in St. Louis. Like,
- 27:57we all came and watched [ __ ] Holy and
- 27:59Chaser and Twister. And I just remember
- 28:01seeing him at a young age being down
- 28:04there beating the [ __ ] out of guys. And
- 28:06I'm like, "What is that thing?"
- 28:07[laughter]
- 28:08>> I go, "What are you
- 28:09>> think?"
- 28:10>> And then, you know, he would go in the
- 28:11pony box, take off all his [ __ ] He'd
- 28:13have the tattoos going.
- 28:14>> He just happened to shed the gear.
- 28:16>> Shad the gear. The girls are going,
- 28:19>> dude. I go, "What the [ __ ] is that?"
- 28:21BOWER SHIRT, RIGHT? I GO, I WANT TO BE
- 28:23THAT, you know, like that's how you we
- 28:25we all got in the early 90s, man. That's
- 28:27how we got into hockey here in St.
- 28:28Louis. Just you got to go to the games.
- 28:30We've got obsessed with the Blues and
- 28:32you had some big characters out there
- 28:34that [ __ ] grabbed our attention.
- 28:36[ __ ] I was going to, you know, Cardinal
- 28:38games and stuff like that.
- 28:39>> How old were you at this point?
- 28:41>> Six, seven, eight, nine, you know, that
- 28:43age. Then you came back and, you know, I
- 28:46was a little bit older. But I didn't
- 28:47start hockey until I was 11, 12.
- 28:49>> What?
- 28:50>> Yeah. Are you kidding? No. You never
- 28:52skated before 12. At 15 or 16, he was
- 28:55playing junior hockey for the Sting. And
- 28:58I was unrestricted. I hadn't signed a
- 29:00contract yet. And back then, you didn't
- 29:01do the PT.
- 29:01>> You hadn't touched the ice.
- 29:03>> Didn't touch anything.
- 29:04>> But he's playing junior hockey. That's
- 29:07I'm helping out with the team.
- 29:09>> And this guy,
- 29:11>> it was [ __ ] hilarious cuz he's
- 29:13sitting on the bench and yeah, Cam, he's
- 29:14like he's he's he's intense, you know?
- 29:16He's just he hasn't changed a bit. And
- 29:18he had to wear the full cage because he
- 29:20was like 16. He wasn't old enough to go
- 29:21with a half visor. And so every guy who
- 29:24skated by the bench, he was [ __ ]
- 29:25yelling, "Yell, I'll take THIS [ __ ]
- 29:27THING OFF. I'LL TAKE IT OFF. I DON'T
- 29:28CARE." IT WAS HILARIOUS. So I grabbed
- 29:30him and I I see he's he's a gra. He
- 29:32wants to get after it. I go, "Hey, kid."
- 29:34>> I go, "Don't worry about it." I said,
- 29:35"Listen, just stop."
- 29:36>> 16 years old.
- 29:37>> Yeah. I go, "Don't waste your energy."
- 29:38Go, but when you touch the ice,
- 29:41>> kid everything that moves. Give somebody
- 29:42no choice but to fight you. They have no
- 29:44choice to fight you at that point. Like
- 29:46if you yell at people that not going to
- 29:48take you serious, you got a full c just
- 29:50run around and [ __ ] Little did I know
- 29:53is what he was going to do the rest of
- 29:54his life is run around and murder people
- 29:56and fight people.
- 29:57>> Yep.
- 29:58>> How long did you How long did you guys
- 30:00spend together?
- 30:01>> Me and Jane maybe. Well, he that was I
- 30:04don't know what year is that? 2000. Like
- 30:07God, you were you were in like you were
- 30:08doing you were in between you
- 30:10>> I was a free agent and
- 30:12>> back then like I said you didn't do the
- 30:13PTO thing. you waited till somebody
- 30:15realized they didn't have a good team
- 30:16and then you signed a contract. So
- 30:18Ottawa got to camp, whatever, and they
- 30:20some of their young defenseman weren't
- 30:22developed. They called me and said,
- 30:24"Hey, you want to sign?" But until then,
- 30:26I was helping run practices and I was
- 30:28skating in practice, but then helping
- 30:31coaching that. And so in ' 04 when you
- 30:33finally met the ice, you decided, I'm
- 30:35going to beat the [ __ ] out of
- 30:36>> Mike Murphy. Yes,
- 30:38>> I think Mike Murphy and then John
- 30:40Vivian.
- 30:40>> John Vivian, they went through a bunch
- 30:42of coaches. If you look at the roster on
- 30:44Hockey DB during the 2000 Sting year,
- 30:47there's 150 players that came in and out
- 30:50of there. [laughter]
- 30:51150. And we were partying. I was wearing
- 30:54I was wearing a [ __ ] do-agg that had
- 30:56skulls on it
- 30:57>> with my warm-ups,
- 30:59>> dude. I'd put it under my I put it under
- 31:01my helmet like cigarettes in his sleeve.
- 31:04>> I would
- 31:0616 with a do-rag on
- 31:08>> with with skulls on it. It was It was
- 31:10pretty funny.
- 31:11>> That's awesome. Yeah,
- 31:12>> you were already doing the role,
- 31:13>> but he like he was determined. And then
- 31:15I remember following him a little bit as
- 31:17much as you could back then, even though
- 31:19I was in the NHL following. Then I saw
- 31:21he got drafted to the OHL and then I saw
- 31:23that he was like beating a piss. I was
- 31:25like, geez. Then I saw you get drafted
- 31:26the NHL. It's kind of a weird thing
- 31:28because you know, you look back and he
- 31:30was just a kid when I met him and then
- 31:32he's then then he's challenged me to a
- 31:34fight [laughter]
- 31:35and he starts
- 31:36>> I was joking.
- 31:37>> 11 or 12 years old skating. That's
- 31:39unreal. You know, Ed Jovonoski was like
- 31:4211 years old or 12 years old before he
- 31:43even touched the ice.
- 31:44>> Yeah.
- 31:45>> And then at 18, he was the first
- 31:46overall. Impressive.
- 31:47>> Like Craig Cox was 13 or 14 before he
- 31:50hit the ice. Remember Coxy?
- 31:51>> Damn rightough.
- 31:52>> The California kid, he didn't start
- 31:54skating like till 13 or 14. He makes the
- 31:57National Hockey League before 21.
- 31:58>> Those are anomalies. So,
- 32:00>> you're an anomaly.
- 32:01>> You are, correct me if I'm wrong, the
- 32:03first St. Louisb born kid to make the
- 32:06NHL.
- 32:07>> Born and raised to play for the Blues,
- 32:08too.
- 32:09>> Yeah.
- 32:09>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, the play took it
- 32:11took I played my first preseason game at
- 32:1318. So I was I started like 11 12 and
- 32:16then all of a sudden 6 years later I'm
- 32:17playing.
- 32:17>> But you're the first born and raised
- 32:19>> because there's a lot of kids that came
- 32:20here.
- 32:21>> Well, La Fontaine was born here and he
- 32:23left six years. So we don't count same
- 32:27New York. Pat Leaf Fontaine.
- 32:28>> Yeah. But but when we were young all the
- 32:30kids that I was skating with, we didn't
- 32:31know [ __ ] we knew who Patontaine was.
- 32:33I had no idea he was even. So we're we
- 32:35weren't like oh Pat La Fontaine made it
- 32:37from here. We can do it. Like that
- 32:39wasn't the mindset. We're just like
- 32:41let's just let's just do this. You know
- 32:42what I mean? And we didn't even know
- 32:44like my parents didn't know I didn't
- 32:46know Canada very well. I thought it was
- 32:47Eskimos up there. No offense to all you
- 32:49Canadians. I love all y'all up there
- 32:51especially Saskatchewan, Alberta,
- 32:53Manitoba.
- 32:54>> We call them Inu.
- 32:56>> I'm just saying like we didn't know.
- 32:57They're like, "You got to go to the
- 32:58OHL." I'm like, "Okay." Like where the
- 33:00[ __ ] [laughter] that? So it just it
- 33:01all worked out. My mom and dad uh were
- 33:04really good about that [ __ ] man. But um
- 33:06they were struggling for a while there
- 33:07cuz it did cost a lot of money
- 33:09>> and then all of a sudden they pay for
- 33:10everything and then they were chilled
- 33:11out for a little bit and
- 33:12>> that's when I got my first brand new
- 33:14pair of skates was when I got drafted to
- 33:15the OHL like I was fortunate enough to
- 33:17get drafted first round.
- 33:18>> So Brie Wolves and John Kirk I think we
- 33:20still remember
- 33:21>> Kirk still in the business. Shout out to
- 33:23Kirk.
- 33:24>> Um
- 33:25>> he works with Warrior. Warrior good
- 33:27sponsor of this podcast.
- 33:29>> Warrior was he worked for
- 33:30>> he was with Nike or with Bower.
- 33:32>> And so he's he grabs me. And he's like,
- 33:35"Hey, come on over here." I'm like,
- 33:36"What are we doing?" He's like, "I got
- 33:37to size you up for skates." I go, "I
- 33:38can't afford those." He goes, he goes,
- 33:40"No, no. The team pays for
- 33:42[clears throat] a pair of skates." I'm
- 33:42like, "What?" I'd never had a new pair
- 33:44of skates. My dad got them at garage
- 33:46sales for my brother.
- 33:48>> Chief Rolling Puck.
- 33:48>> Yeah. Chief Rolling Puck. He would buy
- 33:50them from my brother. And then when he
- 33:52would grow out of them, I'd get them.
- 33:54But even if they're two sizes too big,
- 33:56I'd have those huge wool socks in my
- 33:58skates playing hockey.
- 34:00>> Love it.
- 34:00>> Until and right through tier two. And
- 34:03then I got my first pair of brand new
- 34:04skates from John Kirk Bower at the OHL
- 34:07draft.
- 34:07>> That's what they Windsor asked me that
- 34:09too when I got drafted by them. They're
- 34:10like they called me the trainer calls me
- 34:12like Cam what kind of stick do you want?
- 34:14I'm like [ __ ] a right-handed one.
- 34:16[laughter]
- 34:17>> I THINK I THINK RIGHTANDED TRY LEFT.
- 34:22>> I COULD TRY A LEFT BUT [laughter] I'M
- 34:23PRETTY sure I swear to God THAT'S WHAT
- 34:25YOU SAID.
- 34:26>> I GO A right-handed one. He's like no no
- 34:28we have Bower, we have Sherwood. We have
- 34:30this. I'm like oh whatever. Just give me
- 34:32something.
- 34:32>> It's wild, isn't it? I never
- 34:34>> I'm only going [laughter] to two
- 34:35somebody with anyway.
- 34:36>> I remember going to my first Blues
- 34:39training camp. Phipe Bzon was on that
- 34:41team and I didn't have a stick. Like you
- 34:43come out of junior hockey like, "Where
- 34:44are your sticks?" I'm like, "I I've got
- 34:46one stick in my hand." And so the Blues,
- 34:48Terry Roof was there.
- 34:51So I I tried the East because I Holly
- 34:54had the East and the metal one. I was
- 34:55like, "I want to try one of those, you
- 34:56know." I was like, "Okay, kid. Grab it."
- 34:58I'm like, "Grab as many as I can cuz I'm
- 34:59like if I get cut, I get to take these
- 35:00home with me." So like four of them that
- 35:02I cut down and like said Phipe Bzon's
- 35:05blade and I really liked it and uh so
- 35:08then I went back to junior that's the
- 35:10year I had my my huge year that year in
- 35:12junior high using Philippe Bzon baby.
- 35:15>> It's wild and then you retired and I
- 35:16couldn't get them anymore. So then I had
- 35:18to like look around. I didn't have my
- 35:20own pattern. When you're a young kid
- 35:21they don't say hey what's your pattern
- 35:23have like a freaking
- 35:24>> No, it was just like a like a Patrick
- 35:26Kane curve like today. Very modest you
- 35:29know. I didn't like the huge curve and
- 35:30whatnot. I like kind of a more old
- 35:32school traditional blade for me.
- 35:35>> Yeah, those sticks are expensive now,
- 35:36man.
- 35:37>> What kind of What kind of blade did you
- 35:39like in your stick? [laughter]
- 35:41>> I think a right-handed move.
- 35:45>> I mean, [laughter]
- 35:46right. I think I'm right-handed.
- 35:48>> Then you had Sup with that uh what was
- 35:51that Eastston called?
- 35:52>> Uh the Tlex. the Tlex and Sup came in
- 35:56and like I played
- 35:58>> in the HL against him and then the
- 36:00All-Star game in the HL against each
- 36:01other and I knew he could play
- 36:03>> but I had no idea the way he could shoot
- 36:05the puck. And still to this day, even
- 36:08like as we get older, you come in and
- 36:10you get that little half clapper. It's
- 36:13not a wrist shot or snap shot or a slap
- 36:15shot. It's like a little boom and that
- 36:17[ __ ] comes flying off that stick.
- 36:19>> That's He's got that the other night
- 36:22skate. Like lost that one bit. You just
- 36:26come down.
- 36:26>> Lost the skating for sure.
- 36:27>> Well, we all lose the skating,
- 36:28>> but still hard down.
- 36:29>> That little boom. You lost sight of your
- 36:32penis for a while, [laughter] too.
- 36:33>> That's because of my cataracts.
- 36:37>> Give me some of that for my cataract.
- 36:38>> There was a reason why they make
- 36:39mirrors. [laughter]
- 36:41>> Jesus.
- 36:43>> Can't shave in the shower without a
- 36:44mirror,
- 36:45>> right? [laughter]
- 36:46>> Go back to Cam. Cam is the first St.
- 36:48Louis guy in the uh Hall of Fame, the
- 36:50amateur hall of fame. our first Hall of
- 36:52Fame, right?
- 36:53>> For St. Louis, like player. Yeah. Yeah,
- 36:55I think so. Yeah. Yeah.
- 36:58>> I I don't I don't know.
- 36:59>> They line up They line up all the
- 37:00jerseys. His one's the first jersey.
- 37:02>> Oh, yeah. And then they go all the way
- 37:03through.
- 37:04>> Yeah, that's that's an NHL game.
- 37:06>> That was a good event the other night,
- 37:07man. That was That was nice. Patty
- 37:08Maroon was in.
- 37:09>> Big Rig.
- 37:10>> Yeah, Big Rig got in and uh you know,
- 37:12Zuki was in. Mike Zuk and
- 37:14>> Donnie Lux and just they I give little
- 37:17Scotty Rup a shout out, too, man. and he
- 37:18puts on a damn good show at those uh
- 37:20Hall of Fame dinners. We we went
- 37:22>> people, man. There really is.
- 37:23>> Well, [ __ ] This is a hot hot bed, dude.
- 37:25I mean, there's players, if you look at
- 37:27the jerseys lined up, it's going to
- 37:29eventually going to be wrapped around
- 37:31that whole St. Charles Convention
- 37:32Center, dude.
- 37:33>> Well, what's funny is you go to Santine
- 37:36and you know, like when you playing the
- 37:38show, they had like couple Paul Stazzy,
- 37:41Cam Jansen, you know, now there's like
- 37:4420 names on this list of St. Louis kids
- 37:46>> tons
- 37:47>> that have made the NHL now and that's in
- 37:50a very short amount of time
- 37:51>> and some girls too like Joey Dunn you
- 37:53see in the paper
- 37:55>> she's going to be like the first pick
- 37:56overall in the PWHL
- 37:57>> she's a absolute rockar
- 37:59>> I hope they keep building that league up
- 38:00man they got to keep building that up
- 38:02and
- 38:02>> can I intercede I was wondering could
- 38:04you take us to a break because I got to
