- 0:05Welcome to The Hypnotist, the show that gives you inside
- 0:09access to cutting edge hypnosis with real clients facing
- 0:12genuine. Issues.
- 0:13Brought to you by The Hypnotherapist, Demanded by
- 0:16celebrities, CEOs and even royalty, Adam Cox.
- 0:20These recordings took place live from Adam Smith in London's
- 0:24world famous Harley Street. So get yourself comfortable and
- 0:31enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:39Hi. It's Adam here, and you're about
- 0:41to listen to a hypnosis session all about changing anxiety into
- 0:47a much more resourceful state. And I was working with a client
- 0:52that was very successful in the area of healthcare, but part of
- 0:56their job was to make presentations to very senior
- 1:00people and we're talking very highly educated.
- 1:03People like doctors. And clinicians, and sometimes
- 1:06they would feel a bit of apprehension presenting to these
- 1:10people. So in this hypnosis session, we
- 1:12actually use a form of stage disassociation and this contrast
- 1:19between association and disassociation.
- 1:22A lot of people when they're anxious, they associate into an
- 1:24unresourceful state like anxiety or apprehension.
- 1:29And to get to that state of calm confidence, it doesn't work that
- 1:34well if you just say be confident, be calm.
- 1:38Because you can't. Plant a tree where there's
- 1:40already a tree. If you're already apprehensive
- 1:42and anxious, it's difficult to then move from that state to a
- 1:47confident state. So what we do is something
- 1:49called disassociation. So you're here in this hypnosis
- 1:52session, the suggestion to go to a cinema in a city and they
- 1:58observe a memory that was anxious as it happened and then
- 2:03rewind it and then see as they would want it to be if they were
- 2:07calm and confident in the same situation.
- 2:10And only when they're 100% confident that the new version
- 2:14is a resourceful state, then they take a first person
- 2:17perspective. And this is an element of
- 2:19priming. We've primed the resource state
- 2:22before, we've accessed the resource state now this is a
- 2:24memory. But then the memory shifts into
- 2:27a future event that doesn't have, that hasn't happened yet
- 2:31because a lot of anxiety is not anxious doing the thing, it's
- 2:36the anticipatory fear before the thing even happens.
- 2:39So it's someone that is nervous of public speaking and they
- 2:43can't sleep the night before their presentation or they feel
- 2:47really anxious just before it starts, or someone that's booked
- 2:50a. Flight and.
- 2:52You know, they know they've got that flight to catch, but
- 2:55they're anxious even on the journey to the airport.
- 2:58They're not on a plane at that point, but they're thinking
- 3:00about the thing before it's happened.
- 3:02And that's connected to anxiety. So it's really important that we
- 3:06prime things that haven't happened yet to be calm,
- 3:09confident and resourceful. So we get this post hypnotic
- 3:13suggestion of a resource state. So that's what's going on here.
- 3:17Now this client, it happened to be presenting in front of senior
- 3:21audiences. For you, it might be different.
- 3:23This is broad enough for you to connect it to something that
- 3:27relates to you. So it might be a memory where
- 3:30you are anxious around a dog and then in the future you see
- 3:34yourself calm and confident around a dog.
- 3:37Or it might be something else. It might be social anxiety, it
- 3:41might be something to do with flying or something else.
- 3:45Whatever it is. Just think of.
- 3:46Your memory update it and then the future thing that would
- 3:50normally cause anxiety in a way where you can imagine it going
- 3:53well in a calm, confident way. And then you'll get more from
- 3:58this. It was created for an
- 4:00individual. Some of the suggestions are
- 4:02going to be good for them and not quite right for you because
- 4:04it was created for them. So if you like the idea of a
- 4:07bespoke session just for you, have a look in the description
- 4:12and the show notes and you'll see various resources, including
- 4:15how to work with me directly. For now though, find a quiet,
- 4:19comfortable place where you won't be distracted or
- 4:21disturbed. Relax and enjoy the session.
- 4:41Take a deep breath in and as you breathe in, breathe in a
- 4:53wonderful feeling of calm relaxation and as you exhale,
- 5:04feel a wonderful feeling of release, as if any tension,
- 5:08stress and worries just leaving your body and you're out with
- 5:13breath, breathing and relaxation and exhaling tension.
- 5:26The deeper you breathe, the more relaxed you feel.
- 5:30And the more relaxed you feel, the deeper you breathe.
- 5:35And as your body relaxes, your imagination awakens.
- 5:42Feel your arms and legs feeling limp, loose and heavy, the tiny
- 5:48muscles in your forehead and your jaw starting to relax.
- 5:53And you may notice your breathing changes.
- 5:57Not just deeper, but lower. Less from the chest and more
- 6:01from the diaphragm. That's it.
- 6:06Just imagine how it would feel if any tension was melting away
- 6:10like ice cubes in the sunshine. And I want you to imagine you
- 6:18keep your body exactly where it is.
- 6:21But your imagination can go on a journey.
- 6:26And I want you to imagine seeing a bookshelf with books of
- 6:32destinations around the world. Imagine choosing a book and just
- 6:41imagine flipping through the pages until you see a city.
- 6:45A city you've been to, or a city you would want to go to and
- 6:51stare at an image that represents that city.
- 6:55And imagine how you would feel if you were floating through the
- 6:58pages and being in that city. Imagine exploring the city.
- 7:08Just imagine there is something strange about that city.
- 7:12The city is the city, but you notice a cinema that does not
- 7:18belong in that city. A familiar cinema.
- 7:23And yet it's there in that different country, that
- 7:26different city. Imagine walking into the cinema
- 7:32having a choice of screens, and each screen is a memory, a
- 7:39moment where real anxiety existed in the past.
- 7:48And I want you to choose one, a real memory.
- 7:56Each screen has a different number, and just imagine walking
- 8:01to that screen to see that memory, but you've got the
- 8:06entire cinema for yourself. No one else is there.
- 8:15And I want you to imagine opening the door or walking into
- 8:18that cinema, having a hundred seats or more to choose from,
- 8:23and choosing the one that seems to be the most comfortable, with
- 8:29the best view of the screen. Imagine sinking into that chair
- 8:36and seeing the screen, and maybe you see those velvet curtains.
- 8:46And then just imagine there is a colour around that you just
- 8:52associate with fun or friendliness, maybe pink or
- 9:00yellow, something that feels light and not heavy.
- 9:09And I want you to imagine the movie starts, but I want you to
- 9:15imagine how connected you feel to the chair.
- 9:17You know that you're watching this on a screen, you're not
- 9:21living this. And imagine just seeing the
- 9:24memory as it was, as an observer.
- 9:30Not better, not worse, just as it was.
- 9:41Observe how you arrived, what happened, and notice certain
- 9:49things about you. Your facial expression, your
- 9:52posture, a tone of voice. Not to judge, just to observe.
- 10:02And then recall the time you've seen movies where they have a
- 10:07flashback scene. They go back to a memory.
- 10:11And just imagine seeing on this screen a memory of you at your
- 10:16most confident, most composed, unflappable, unfazed, oozing
- 10:25resources. That version of you, highly
- 10:29capable. Just imagine observing that
- 10:33version of you from the past that had all of those resources.
- 10:40Imagine floating into the screen and feeling that way, and taking
- 10:43those feelings back with you as you're there on that cinema
- 10:48chair, seeing the screen. Now you see that scene and you
- 10:54rewind it. You rewind reality and you play
- 10:59it forward. But you now see the qualities of
- 11:05that confident, composed, unflappable, determined version
- 11:09of you in the very same environment you were before.
- 11:15But you see yourself dealing with it differently now,
- 11:21breathing slower, looking more relaxed, smiling more, This
- 11:27version of you cool, calm, composed, unflustered.
- 11:35And just play it forward and if anything isn't quite right, just
- 11:41rewind it and start back until you've got a version of you
- 11:46you're seeing on that screen. We handled that same situation
- 11:53that did have anxiety in the way that no longer has anxiety.
- 12:00Not because things are perfect, but because you have the
- 12:06resources, the mindset, the skills and capabilities to
- 12:14handle any challenge. And just observe that confident,
- 12:22resourceful version of you doing the same thing exactly as you
- 12:28would want it to have been. And when you've seen that memory
- 12:33updated with that resourceful version of you, let me know by
- 12:37nodding your head and then rewind it as we start to play a
- 12:45game. You float into the screen before
- 12:49it's even started, feeling all of those confident feelings.
- 12:55You're breathing confidently. You're in a dialogue is
- 13:00encouraging, calm and relaxed. You're alert but not
- 13:08apprehensive. You're confident.
- 13:13And just imagine from a first person perspective, you are now
- 13:17the character in that scene. You're living that moment from a
- 13:23place of pure confidence, calmness and composure.
- 13:29Any challenges, you feel that you can handle them.
- 13:33But the game is that if any anxiety appears, you leave the
- 13:39screen, go back there into that chair in the cinema.
- 13:45You rewind it, see yourself handling it the way you would
- 13:50want to handle it, and then jump back into the character.
- 13:58The challenge is to experience the whole moment from that first
- 14:04person perspective, connected to that confident, resourceful
- 14:09feeling. So take a moment and relive that
- 14:16moment as you would want it to have been with all of these
- 14:21wonderful, confident, calm, resourceful feelings.
- 14:27And the moment you get to the end of that memory, feeling how
- 14:31you would want to feel if it was completely within your
- 14:33capabilities. Let me know if I'm nodding your
- 14:38head. Jump back to the beginning.
- 14:43And now let's call this bit training at altitude, make it
- 14:49more challenging than it actually was and still connect
- 14:55to that feeling of calm confidence.
- 14:59If you can handle those challenges, remain in your body.
- 15:04You feel any anxiety or apprehension or feeling
- 15:07flustered, you jump back to the observer, see it as you would
- 15:12want it to be, and then continue in that first person
- 15:16perspective. And you can make it as
- 15:20challenging as it could possibly be.
- 15:24Absurdly so. A ridiculous level of challenge
- 15:30as we plant a seed of an idea that the moment your mind
- 15:36absolutely believes that you could handle something more
- 15:42challenging than reality, than reality itself, feels well
- 15:49within your sphere of capability.
- 15:54Anxiety is normally a warning sign that you're getting close
- 15:58to your limits, but if your limits have expanded, you never
- 16:04quite reach those limits. So if you could imagine what it
- 16:10would feel like to be living a more challenging version of what
- 16:15happened and still feel confident, let me know.
- 16:21By nodding your head. That's it.
- 16:27Notice how you're breathing in that state and notice it's not
- 16:32relief that you feel at the end. It's pride, confidence,
- 16:38competency, an ever growing certainty that you can handle
- 16:43it. Jump back into the cinema.
- 16:47As we now watch a future that hasn't happened yet.
- 16:54I want you to think of the next thing.
- 16:57Maybe it's scheduled, maybe it isn't.
- 17:01Or maybe it's just a possible thing, being asked at short
- 17:05notice to do something you haven't prepared.
- 17:10Maybe the scale is bigger, more people, maybe the stakes are
- 17:16higher, more seniority, but see something in the future and see
- 17:24that future version of you with all of those qualities of
- 17:28resourcefulness. You see yourself prepared, but
- 17:34not over prepared. See yourself thinking, but not
- 17:41overthinking. See that version of you, excited
- 17:47but not jittery. See that version of you perhaps
- 17:53researching where it would be the kind of people, the kind of
- 17:58faces most websites share BIOS and pictures of rooms.
- 18:05See yourself knowing what to expect, and then observe that
- 18:10version of you on the screen, confidently preparing
- 18:15beforehand, arriving in a relaxed, friendly way.
- 18:26See yourself meeting perhaps people before things start, and
- 18:33then see. See that version of you in a
- 18:39situation that hasn't happened yet, handling what is likely to
- 18:46happen completely fine? Maybe you have an idea of where
- 18:54it is, how many people, the size of the room see it going well,
- 19:03when that future moment that hasn't happened yet seems to be
- 19:09well within your capabilities. Let me know by nodding your
- 19:11head. Jump back to the beginning and
- 19:17imagine it's more challenging. Tough questions, stern faces,
- 19:25bright lights, big room. Maybe see that you've been
- 19:30caught off guard with lack of preparation that you would have
- 19:33liked to have done, and still see that even when all of that
- 19:38is true, that version of you handles it fine, well within
- 19:45your capabilities. And when you've seen a future
- 19:50that hasn't happened yet, when you've observed it more
- 19:55challenging than it's likely to be, and yet you can still feel
- 20:00confident, composed, calm, determined.
- 20:04Unflustered. Unflappable.
- 20:09Then it's time to rewind it to the beginning before it started
- 20:13and shift perspective into the screen where you are that person
- 20:19and scan your body and just breathe the way you would
- 20:21breathe if you were calm and confident.
- 20:25Arrive the way you would if you were unflustered, unflappable.
- 20:32I just imagine hearing some inner dialogue that says bring
- 20:39it on, I'm ready. Imagine there's a part within
- 20:43you that wants to be tested. That part that hopes nothing
- 20:51difficult comes up is the wrong part to be there.
- 20:56We want that strong, defiant part, the part that would run in
- 21:02the rain and like it more because the weather is
- 21:07difficult, or that would feel more pride after running in the
- 21:12heat because it was challenging. That strong defined part wants
- 21:17it to be challenging because you know the more challenges you
- 21:24face, the more confident you become.
- 21:28And the more confident you become, the more relaxed you
- 21:32are, creating a wonderful self fulfilling prophecy of ever
- 21:37increasing calmness, relaxation and confidence.
- 21:42So just imagine experiencing experiencing it the way you
- 21:47would want to experience it. Not because it's easy, but
- 21:52because you're resourceful. Any anxiety comes up, Switch
- 21:58perspectives to watching it on that screen, adjust it, change
- 22:03it, and only return. When you're fully.
- 22:05Confident again, and then continue knowing that when you
- 22:11can imagine reliving a moment of anxiety without anxiety, you're
- 22:19teaching your brain how to be resourceful in difficult
- 22:23circumstances. And when you imagine a future
- 22:27that hasn't happened yet going the way you would want it to go,
- 22:32not because it's easy, but because you can handle any
- 22:35challenge, notice how easily anxiety switches to excitement,
- 22:44apprehension to appreciation. Calm composure becomes the
- 22:52default. And if there are difficult
- 22:56variables, that just means it's more fun for you because now
- 23:03from this point on, challenge equals fun.
- 23:08There are things you've done in your life not because they were
- 23:11easy, but because they were challenging.
- 23:14And what if this is no exception?
- 23:17You'd be bored if it was too easy.
- 23:20You want the challenges, and you can handle the challenges when
- 23:27you've imagined that future event that hasn't happened yet
- 23:30going well from that first person perspective.
- 23:36In circumstances that. Aren't optimal, but they don't
- 23:39need to be. Let me know by nodding your head
- 23:43and then float back from the screen into the cinema.
- 23:47Leave the cinema with a sense that you can handle whatever is
- 23:53coming your way. Each challenge builds resilience
- 24:00and confidence. And find yourself out in that
- 24:04city, the city in the book, and look up at the sky and imagine
- 24:10floating up in the sky and find yourself holding that same book,
- 24:16putting the book back on the bookshelf and floating.
- 24:18Back in your. Body exactly where you are now,
- 24:22but taking all of these new beliefs and resources with you
- 24:28as it's time to return. So take a deep breath in through
- 24:32your nose and out through your nose.
- 24:36Wiggle your fingers and wiggle your toes.
- 24:39Connect and calibrate into the here and the now as I now count
