- 0:01We tend to attract those energies, beings and forces to
- 0:05us that respond to the vibratory pattern of our thoughts,
- 0:09emotions, feelings, desires, and physical state.
- 0:15Keeping this in mind, we can review our relationship to
- 0:19places of worship, whether a temple, mosque, church, or
- 0:25other. Some individuals and on some
- 0:29occasions bring true devotion to the place of worship.
- 0:33Yet we also see many other drives, desires and motives
- 0:38operating as people visit their local shrine.
- 0:42A major motive is desire. We pray to God to give us
- 0:47something we want, whether it is money, family, children, a
- 0:51better job, a better relationship with someone, et
- 0:55cetera. In some cases, we attend out of
- 0:59a sense of fear that we will not achieve heaven after our death
- 1:04or will endure suffering for sins we have committed.
- 1:08In some cases, we come under the influence or control of a
- 1:12charismatic leader and subordinate ourselves to that
- 1:16individuals dictates. Whatever the motive that brings
- 1:20us to the place of worship, we create thereby an opening to and
- 1:26action of corresponding beings and forces that represent the
- 1:30vibrational patterns of our own energies.
- 1:34Thus, to the extent we bring our desires, fears and wishes into
- 1:38the place of worship, we attract those beings and entities that
- 1:43act on the vital plane. They may take a brilliant form
- 1:48that can mislead us into believing they are divine beings
- 1:51answering our prayers. In reality, they are harvesting
- 1:56and feeding off of our energies and do what they need to do to
- 2:00elicit more of those energies from us.
- 2:04For those who come with a sincere sense of devotion,
- 2:08without desire, without fear, without any personal demands,
- 2:13but with a sense of consecration and dedication, they of course
- 2:18attract those forces that aid their devotional feelings.
- 2:22And in such cases, they are not misled by vital forces residing
- 2:27in the place of worship due to the collective force of the
- 2:30people who come with desire or fear.
- 2:34Sometimes the simplest, humblest and least ostentatious shrine is
- 2:41the one that holds the deepest and truest devotional energies.
- 2:46The Mother observes. Quote in all religious
- 2:50monuments, in monuments considered the most well as
- 2:55belonging to the highest religion, whether in France or
- 2:59any other country or Japan, it was never the same temples or
- 3:03churches, nor the same gods. And yet my experience was
- 3:08everywhere almost the same, with very small differences.
- 3:12I saw that whatever concentrated force there was in the Church
- 3:16depended exclusively upon the faithful, the faith of the
- 3:19devotees, and there was still a difference between the force as
- 3:24it really was and the force as they felt it.
- 3:28For instance, I saw in one of the most beautiful cathedrals of
- 3:32France, which from the artistic point of view is one of the most
- 3:37magnificent monuments imaginable.
- 3:40In the most sacred spot I saw an enormous black vital spider
- 3:45which had made its web and spread it over the whole place
- 3:49and was catching in it and then absorbing all the forces
- 3:54emanating from people's devotion, their prayers and all
- 3:57that. It was not a very cheering
- 4:00sight. The people who were there and
- 4:03were praying felt a divine touch.
- 4:06They received all kinds of boons from their prayers, and yet what
- 4:10was there was this, this thing? But they had their faith which
- 4:15could change that evil thing into something good in them.
- 4:19They had their faith. So truly, if I had gone and told
- 4:24them, do you think you are praying to God?
- 4:27It is an enormous vital spider that's feeding upon all your
- 4:30forces. That would really not have been
- 4:34very charitable. And that's how it is most of the
- 4:38time, almost everywhere. It is a vital force which is
- 4:42there, for these vital entities feed upon the vibration of human
- 4:46emotions. And very few people, very few,
- 4:50an insignificant number, go to church or temple with a true
- 4:54religious feeling. That is not to pray and beg for
- 4:58something from God, but to offer themselves, give thanks, aspire,
- 5:05give themselves. There is hardly one in a million
- 5:10who does that. So they do not have the power of
- 5:13changing the atmosphere. Perhaps when they are there they
- 5:18manage to get across breakthrough and go somewhere
- 5:21and touch something divine. But the large majority of people
- 5:25who go only because of superstition, egoism and
- 5:30self-interest create an atmosphere of this kind.
- 5:34And that is what you breathe in when you go to a church or
- 5:37temple. Only as you go there with a very
- 5:40good feeling, you tell yourself, oh, what a quiet place for
- 5:46meditation. Reference Sri Aurovindo and the
