- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome to a meeting of the minds crafted from decades
- 0:05Speaker 1: of talk show experience, an extension of the magic they've
- 0:09Speaker 1: created together on radio in the phenomenon called M & M.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Hot topics in the news and wisdom from life. It's
- 0:17Speaker 1: Mark Davis and Mike Gallagher. This is M & M Extra.
- 0:23Speaker 2: It's one of those rare days where you've got one
- 0:26Speaker 2: of the M's. I'm Mike Gallagher. Mark off today on
- 0:29Speaker 2: what is a somber occasion. This, of course, is the
- 0:32Speaker 2: one-year anniversary of the assassination of our Salem media colleague,
- 0:38Speaker 2: Charlie Kirk. And I thought it would be very important,
- 0:42Speaker 2: first of all, to acknowledge Preborn as our title sponsor
- 0:45Speaker 2: because Charlie was heavily, heavily involved with Preborn. In fact...
- 0:51Speaker 2: He shared with me personally how much he appreciated the
- 0:54Speaker 2: opportunity to tell his audience about the opportunity you have
- 1:00Speaker 2: to provide ultrasounds to young women, girls who are considering
- 1:05Speaker 2: an abortion. You can stand for life today and support
- 1:09Speaker 2: our title sponsor, Preborn, and provide ultrasounds to girls and women.
- 1:13Speaker 2: You'll double the likelihood that she's going to choose life.
- 1:17Speaker 2: To donate, just call 833-850-BABY, 833-850-BABY, or go to preborn.com
- 1:25Speaker 2: slash mmextra, preborn.com slash mmextra.
- 1:33Speaker 1: It's kind of.
- 1:33Speaker 2: Hard to put into words what those of us here
- 1:39Speaker 2: in the building are feeling today. And when I say
- 1:43Speaker 2: here in the building... I mean the Salem media world.
- 1:49Speaker 2: You know, if you're new to this podcast and if
- 1:51Speaker 2: you're new to maybe the Mike Gallagher show or the
- 1:53Speaker 2: Mark Davis show, you may not know about the inner
- 1:57Speaker 2: workings of the Salem infrastructure. I've been with this company
- 2:02Speaker 2: now a quarter of a century. I started with Salem
- 2:06Speaker 2: in 2001. In fact, I was just thinking about this.
- 2:11Speaker 2: I'm probably around my 25th anniversary as a syndicated talk
- 2:16Speaker 2: show host with Salem Media. And it has been the
- 2:22Speaker 2: happiest journey of my life outside of my family and
- 2:25Speaker 2: my friends. Professionally, you couldn't ask for a better place
- 2:30Speaker 2: to be. Salem is a company with a mission. The
- 2:35Speaker 2: mission has always been sort of stated as.
- 2:39Speaker 2: To do well as a company while doing good for others.
- 2:45Speaker 2: Alan Power, who is a longtime Salem executive who recently retired,
- 2:50Speaker 2: loved to say that. To do good while doing good.
- 2:53Speaker 2: We want to do well as a company. We are
- 2:55Speaker 2: not a nonprofit. We are a for-profit broadcast company. like
- 3:03Speaker 2: most of the places you go to, but we also
- 3:06Speaker 2: want to make a difference in people's lives. That's why
- 3:08Speaker 2: we have partnerships with organizations like Preborn. That's why we
- 3:12Speaker 2: reach out to and partner with Food for the Poor.
- 3:16Speaker 2: That's why we partner with organizations like Prison Fellowship. And
- 3:22Speaker 2: I think you know that. I think our audience gets it.
- 3:26Speaker 2: I think our audience understands it. I think our audience...
- 3:31Speaker 2: clearly gets our mission. And that's why this feels like
- 3:37Speaker 2: a giant extended family. It is a very familial atmosphere.
- 3:45Speaker 2: When you and I engage together, we take the high
- 3:51Speaker 2: road together. We go on the low road together. We've
- 3:54Speaker 2: been through ups and downs. We've been through a lot together.
- 3:59Speaker 2: And so when a member of our family is struck
- 4:03Speaker 2: down by an assassin's bullet, it's very personal for all
- 4:10Speaker 2: of us. And I will never, ever forget the rush
- 4:16Speaker 2: of emotions I felt a year ago today when we
- 4:20Speaker 2: learned that Charlie was murdered. Charlie was doing what Charlie
- 4:27Speaker 2: loved to do most, go on to a college campus
- 4:31Speaker 2: and invite kids who disagreed with him to debate him.
- 4:37Speaker 2: And that was his crime. That was his sin. If
- 4:42Speaker 2: people on the hard left didn't like the views that
- 4:48Speaker 2: Charlie espoused, they had an opportunity to challenge those views.
- 4:56Speaker 2: And for years, the little clips, you've seen them. If
- 5:01Speaker 2: you're engaged in this podcast today, you've seen all the
- 5:07Speaker 2: clips of Charlie, little snippets of the debates that he
- 5:11Speaker 2: would have with college kids. He thrived on that. He
- 5:17Speaker 2: loved it. It was like his oxygen. He had so
- 5:21Speaker 2: much joy in walking on to a college campus and
- 5:26Speaker 2: generally surrounded by supporters and fans. But the kids who
- 5:32Speaker 2: disagreed with him, the college students who wanted to challenge him,
- 5:36Speaker 2: were given the microphone. He was being challenged by a
- 5:43Speaker 2: young man the moment he was gunned down. And Charlie
- 5:51Speaker 2: did it with.
- 5:54Speaker 2: A sense of sort of grace. He did it with humility.
- 6:00Speaker 2: He actually did it with kindness. You know, this monster
- 6:08Speaker 2: who climbed up on the roof and put the bullet
- 6:13Speaker 2: in Charlie's neck, he's got a legal team that I
- 6:17Speaker 2: suspect is very good. And one of his lawyers said
- 6:25Speaker 2: in court a week or so ago that it was
- 6:29Speaker 2: established that what Charlie said was hateful speech. Now, I
- 6:36Speaker 2: don't doubt that there are people who think that Charlie's
- 6:39Speaker 2: beliefs were hateful. You have a right to feel that way.
- 6:44Speaker 2: If you believe in the nuclear family, if you believe
- 6:49Speaker 2: in a strong border, if you believe in Trump's the
- 6:55Speaker 2: current mass deportation that's underway, you might consider that hateful speech.
- 7:02Speaker 2: You may think of those views as hateful views. Doesn't
- 7:08Speaker 2: make it true. That's an opinion. You're absolutely entitled to
- 7:12Speaker 2: that opinion. For a lawyer in a murder trial to
- 7:17Speaker 2: stand up and vilify the victim, to victimize as the
- 7:25Speaker 2: expression goes, to make Charlie Kirk, the bad guy, the
- 7:32Speaker 2: culprit in his own death, in his own political assassination,
- 7:41Speaker 2: is as reprehensible an act as anything I think I've
- 7:47Speaker 2: ever seen. It stunned me. It stunned me. For a
- 7:53Speaker 2: lawyer to stand up in a court of law, I
- 7:55Speaker 2: get that the lawyer is trying to get his client
- 7:58Speaker 2: off the hook. And in a world right now with
- 8:00Speaker 2: Lindsey Clancy, in a world right now where Luigi Mangione
- 8:04Speaker 2: is a hero, in a world right now where the
- 8:08Speaker 2: kid in Texas that plunged the knife into the other
- 8:12Speaker 2: kid is a martyr and a hero, I get that.
- 8:16Speaker 2: that right is wrong and up is down and left
- 8:19Speaker 2: is right. I get that good is portrayed as evil.
- 8:22Speaker 2: I understand that. But for a lawyer to stand up
- 8:26Speaker 2: in a courtroom and proclaim as if it was a
- 8:31Speaker 2: fact that the beliefs and the views and the ideology
- 8:36Speaker 2: of Charlie Kirk was hateful, well, all I know is
- 8:43Speaker 2: that that lawyer someday maybe in the great beyond, in
- 8:49Speaker 2: the afterlife, is going to have to be held accountable
- 8:53Speaker 2: for such a slander. Again, and he may feel that
- 8:57Speaker 2: way personally, his personal views. And I have no objection
- 9:01Speaker 2: with that. I didn't agree with 100% of what Charlie
- 9:03Speaker 2: stood for or what he believed. But this guy's a lawyer.
- 9:08Speaker 2: This guy is an officer of the court. This man
- 9:13Speaker 2: is supposed to represent truth. not present a bias that
- 9:20Speaker 2: smeared the man who bled out at Utah Valley University
- 9:28Speaker 2: in front of hundreds and hundreds of horrified onlookers. So, look,
- 9:35Speaker 2: it's important to try to stay positive, I think, on
- 9:38Speaker 2: this one-year anniversary of Charlie's assassination. I'm kind of excited
- 9:43Speaker 2: about the fact that there's a movie called out at
- 9:47Speaker 2: salemnow.com that features one of Charlie's very last interviews. The
- 9:53Speaker 2: movie is called Can You Hear Me Now? And it explored,
- 9:59Speaker 2: Charlie was all about his faith, was very much a believer,
- 10:06Speaker 2: and shared his Christian values and beliefs with any audience
- 10:11Speaker 2: that would show up to hear him or see him.
- 10:15Speaker 2: And Charlie explored with the in this conversation, in this
- 10:21Speaker 2: last interview, he explored the eternal question, is God there?
- 10:30Speaker 2: Does he hear us? Does he speak to us?
- 10:35Speaker 4: Do we hear God?
- 10:37Speaker 2: And I thought on this one-year anniversary of Charlie's terrible,
- 10:43Speaker 2: terrible death, it would be a good opportunity to share
- 10:49Speaker 2: Some of Charlie's comments from the movie Can You Hear
- 10:54Speaker 2: Me Now? Available now at SalemNow.com.
- 10:58Speaker 5: Abortion has been a big thing for a long time.
- 11:01Speaker 4: And it affects people.
- 11:03Speaker 5: And it hurts people.
- 11:04Speaker 3: So has murder and slavery and child sacrifice.
- 11:06Speaker 4: That is completely different.
- 11:08Speaker 5: No, it is murder. You are saying slavery is the
- 11:10Speaker 5: reason for abortion?
- 11:11Speaker 3: Okay, so let me ask you a question then.
- 11:15Speaker 5: Define what is murder. What is murder?
- 11:18Speaker 4: So are you going to be talking about first degree murder,
- 11:21Speaker 4: like homicide, like going and having.
- 11:22Speaker 6: The intent to kill a person, having.
- 11:25Speaker 4: The intent to kill somebody?
- 11:26Speaker 5: But I'm just saying a human being, right?
- 11:29Speaker 4: Yeah, but a clump of cells is different.
- 11:30Speaker 5: Hold on, time out. If it's a clump of cells,
- 11:32Speaker 5: what species is it? What species is it? Yes. What species?
- 11:38Speaker 5: It depends. Whatever's going to be pregnant, whatever you're trying
- 11:41Speaker 5: to abort.
- 11:41Speaker 3: Is it a homo sapien, a crocodile, or a raccoon?
- 11:44Speaker 5: Which one is it? What species is it? Oh, wait.
- 11:47Speaker 3: So if it's a human clump of cells, then it's
- 11:50Speaker 3: a human life deserving of human rights. A Christian nation,
- 11:54Speaker 3: as Thomas Jefferson wrote in the Declaration of Independence, we
- 11:56Speaker 3: hold these truths to be self-evident.
- 12:01Speaker 4: The laws of nature and nature is God.
- 12:03Speaker 3: He's appealing towards a natural law that is not an accident,
- 12:07Speaker 3: but is created by a divine author of the cosmological order.
- 12:11Speaker 3: We call that the Logos in John 1. But a
- 12:14Speaker 3: Christian nation is one that lives out Christ's commands. Do
- 12:18Speaker 3: you know that outside of any book, not Montesquieu, not Locke,
- 12:22Speaker 3: not Rousseau, not any of the thinkers of the Enlightenment.
- 12:25Speaker 3: It was Deuteronomy, the book of Deuteronomy, that was cited
- 12:28Speaker 3: more than any other book at the time of the
- 12:30Speaker 3: American founding. The first question is, why should Christians be
- 12:33Speaker 3: involved in anything? That's the first question. And some people's
- 12:36Speaker 3: theology is, hey, just be focused on the next life
- 12:40Speaker 3: and nothing here matters.
- 12:41Speaker 4: Well, that is not the gospel at all.
- 12:43Speaker 5: Christ our Lord said on this rock, build my what?
- 12:46Speaker 2: Church.
- 12:46Speaker 5: Wrong. Ekklesia. It's not the word church. The English translations
- 12:49Speaker 5: of common Bible say church.
- 12:50Speaker 3: Well, actually, it shouldn't because the original Greek term says
- 12:53Speaker 3: on this rock, build my government structure.
- 12:56Speaker 5: Ekklesia was a secular word.
- 12:58Speaker 3: Used in that time, which was all about the advancement
- 13:01Speaker 3: of freedom and liberty, which are the two words in Greek,
- 13:05Speaker 3: which are the two words there. So the point being,
- 13:07Speaker 3: Christ called us to be salt and light. We as
- 13:10Speaker 3: Christians should change the environment that we come in contact with.
- 13:12Speaker 5: That's what salt might do.
- 13:14Speaker 3: So why should we then not care about changing government
- 13:17Speaker 3: to be more Christlike? Whether it be Nehemiah, Jeremiah, Daniel, Moses, Aaron,
- 13:22Speaker 3: they all thought deeply about how to either influence secular
- 13:26Speaker 3: government for God's purposes or form a government for God's purposes.
- 13:31Speaker 6: So what's stopping us from speaking into our nation?
- 13:35Speaker 4: Oh yeah, I forgot. There's this little phrase called.
- 13:39Speaker 5: Separation of church and state things. Church and state. Church
- 13:41Speaker 5: and state.
- 13:42Speaker 4: Church and state.
- 13:43Speaker 5: Church and state. Church from state. Separation of church and state.
- 13:48Speaker 4: Yeah, it's somewhat of a new phenomenon.
- 13:50Speaker 3: The first usage of that phrase, from the best of
- 13:52Speaker 3: my understanding, was actually by Thomas Jefferson to the Danbury
- 13:56Speaker 3: Baptist Convention in a letter he wrote in the early 1800s.
- 13:59Speaker 3: And interestingly, he wrote it to the convention guaranteeing them
- 14:04Speaker 3: that the state will not come after the church. In fact,
- 14:07Speaker 3: that was a foreign concept. to the founders. The founding
- 14:10Speaker 3: fathers sponsored the writing and distribution of Bibles. They held
- 14:14Speaker 3: church practices and services in the U.S. Supreme Court. 55
- 14:18Speaker 3: out of 56 of the signers of the Declaration of
- 14:21Speaker 3: Independence were Bible-believing church-attending Christians themselves.
- 14:25Speaker 6: In addition to the misuse of separation of church and state,
- 14:28Speaker 6: there's another phrase that's been hitting the airwaves.
- 14:31Speaker 3: This unholy marriage of religion and politics is the narrative
- 14:35Speaker 3: of American Christian nationalism.
- 14:37Speaker 6: But over the past 250 years, high-ranking officials from judges
- 14:41Speaker 6: to senators to even presidents have stated that America is
- 14:44Speaker 6: a Christian nation.
- 14:46Speaker 3: But what does it mean to be a Christian nation?
- 14:49Speaker 3: What does it mean to be a Christian nation is
- 14:50Speaker 3: a great question. Well, first of all, where the vast
- 14:53Speaker 3: majority of your people love Jesus, love people, and they
- 14:57Speaker 3: do what God taught.
- 14:58Speaker 4: That's number one.
- 14:59Speaker 3: But number two is also the laws must be rooted
- 15:02Speaker 3: in first and foremost the natural law at a very
- 15:04Speaker 3: base minimum.
- 15:05Speaker 4: John Adams had a very, very powerful quote.
- 15:08Speaker 3: He said the Constitution was written solely and only for
- 15:11Speaker 3: a moral and religious people. It's wholly inadequate for the
- 15:14Speaker 3: people of any other. So if you apply the U.S.
- 15:17Speaker 3: Constitution right now and we flew to Somalia and we
- 15:20Speaker 3: said you guys got to live by the U.S. Constitution,
- 15:21Speaker 3: it wouldn't work. If we went to India right now
- 15:24Speaker 3: and we said, hey, you guys got to live by
- 15:25Speaker 3: the U.S. Constitution. You guys got to live under Hinduism.
- 15:27Speaker 3: It wouldn't work. You see, they are universal principles, but
- 15:31Speaker 3: they're not universally applicable if the people.
- 15:32Speaker 4: Are not Christian.
- 15:34Speaker 3: I've never described myself as a Christian nationalist. So I'm
- 15:37Speaker 3: a Christian and a nationalist. So I've never used those two.
- 15:39Speaker 3: And then right there, that and nationalist. Where in the
- 15:42Speaker 3: scriptures does a Christian? Thank you for Jeremiah 29, seven
- 15:45Speaker 3: demand the welfare of the nation that you are in
- 15:47Speaker 3: because your welfare is tied to your nation's welfare.
- 15:50Speaker 4: Let me continue.
- 15:51Speaker 3: Daniel fasted and prayed for his nation. Esther and Mordecai
- 15:53Speaker 3: cared for their nation.
- 15:54Speaker 4: They were counsel to the king.
- 15:55Speaker 5: Nehemiah, Jeremiah, Joseph, Jacob.
- 15:58Speaker 4: I could keep on going. Moses, Aaron.
- 16:00Speaker 3: In fact, Moses was so political that he wrote an
- 16:02Speaker 3: entire book of the Torah all about how to set
- 16:04Speaker 3: up a government.
- 16:05Speaker 4: It's the book of Deuteronomy.
- 16:06Speaker 3: So, in fact, the Bible is an explicitly political text
- 16:10Speaker 3: amongst many other things. Well, for someone that just says
- 16:13Speaker 3: I'm just describing Christian nationalism, I'd say, what do you
- 16:15Speaker 3: mean by that exactly? We define the term because before
- 16:18Speaker 3: I defend or retreat, are you talking about me creating
- 16:21Speaker 3: a theocracy? If that's the accusation, no, I've never argued
- 16:25Speaker 3: for a theocracy. But what I will argue for is
- 16:27Speaker 3: a constitutional republic full of Christians. And you think about
- 16:31Speaker 3: the type of nation we want. We want one that
- 16:33Speaker 3: is rooted in liberty. Liberty is God's idea, not man's idea.
- 16:36Speaker 3: It says very clearly, where the spirit of the Lord is,
- 16:38Speaker 3: there is liberty. Jesus has said, I have come to
- 16:41Speaker 3: give life and life more abundantly. Enemy has come to lie, steal, cheat,
- 16:44Speaker 3: and destroy. That is John 10.10. The idea of liberty
- 16:47Speaker 3: was so important to God in Leviticus 25.19, I believe.
- 16:51Speaker 3: It not only says proclaim liberty throughout the land of
- 16:54Speaker 3: which you are in, the founding fathers loved it so
- 16:56Speaker 3: much they put that on the liberty belt.
- 17:02Speaker 2: Got a chance to screen the movie, and it is fascinating.
- 17:04Speaker 2: It's very spiritual. It's very much about philosophers and prophets.
- 17:12Speaker 2: Pretty heady stuff, but I think you'll enjoy Can You
- 17:15Speaker 2: Hear Me Now, especially if you are a Charlie Kirk fan.
- 17:19Speaker 2: A big Charlie Kirk fan is a fellow broadcaster, a
- 17:24Speaker 2: very popular podcaster named Benny Johnson. I've met Benny a
- 17:28Speaker 2: couple of times, haven't really had a lot of time
- 17:30Speaker 2: to to speak with him. But I did have an
- 17:32Speaker 2: opportunity to talk to him when we flew out to
- 17:35Speaker 2: Arizona for the Charlie Kirk Memorial outside Turning Point USA,
- 17:41Speaker 2: which was the, and still is, the massive facility on
- 17:45Speaker 2: the grounds there in Phoenix. And this was the house
- 17:48Speaker 2: that Charlie built. Charlie, of course, very famously concocted Turning
- 17:55Speaker 2: Point USA in the basement or the garage, rather, of
- 17:59Speaker 2: his parents' home in Chicago when he was a kid.
- 18:02Speaker 2: He was a teenager, young boy. And he had an idea,
- 18:06Speaker 2: had a vision for an organization that turned into Turning
- 18:13Speaker 2: Point USA. And so you may remember there was a
- 18:18Speaker 2: massive memorial, one of the greatest memorials worship services that
- 18:23Speaker 2: reached millions and millions of people all over the world
- 18:26Speaker 2: in Phoenix shortly after Charlie's assassination. But we decided to
- 18:31Speaker 2: drive over to the Turning Point headquarters because I had
- 18:35Speaker 2: a feeling there was a lot of activity going on there.
- 18:37Speaker 2: And sure enough, there was a huge, huge memorial set
- 18:42Speaker 2: up outside the Turning Point USA headquarters in Phoenix. Flowers
- 18:47Speaker 2: and stuffed animals and messages in memoriam and tributes to Charlie.
- 18:53Speaker 2: And as we were walking around and talking to people,
- 18:56Speaker 2: we came across the very popular podcaster, Benny Johnson. Benny
- 19:01Speaker 2: was sort of in Charlie's inner circle, his orbit. And Benny,
- 19:07Speaker 2: you could see even on the look on his face,
- 19:10Speaker 2: even weeks after Charlie's murder, was deeply impacted by the
- 19:17Speaker 2: assassination of his friend, Charlie Kirk. Benny, there are very
- 19:22Speaker 2: few people in American culture who have had this kind
- 19:25Speaker 2: of an impact on the American people.
- 19:29Speaker 7: Well, right, especially after their passing. So this is what
- 19:34Speaker 7: normally happens is people lose power. Tyrants lose power after
- 19:37Speaker 7: their passing. People live their lives and they go on
- 19:41Speaker 7: and then, you know, you're truly gone when people forget
- 19:44Speaker 7: your name. I've never in my life witnessed what's happening here.
- 19:48Speaker 7: Charlie's social media accounts. have doubled and tripled in size.
- 19:52Speaker 7: My entire social media feed, along with every other person
- 19:54Speaker 7: on earth, is now seeing Charlie's voice speaking to us.
- 19:59Speaker 7: What has happened here is a martyrdom in the true
- 20:01Speaker 7: sense of the Christian tradition. The same way that the
- 20:05Speaker 7: blood of Stephen, who, and it gave me chills thinking
- 20:08Speaker 7: about this, Mike, Was the same age as Charlie upon
- 20:12Speaker 7: his martyrdom. The same way that that inspired the single
- 20:15Speaker 7: greatest growth of Christianity and the kingdom of God upon
- 20:20Speaker 7: his death. That is what we are witnessing here in
- 20:23Speaker 7: Charlie and many interviews explained what he wanted his legacy
- 20:26Speaker 7: to be. What 20 year old man does that, by
- 20:28Speaker 7: the way? He explained many times, I want to be
- 20:30Speaker 7: remembered for courage for the kingdom of God. And God
- 20:34Speaker 7: is using, as he always does, Charlie's martyrdom to advance
- 20:38Speaker 7: the kingdom of God. It is precisely what Charlie would
- 20:40Speaker 7: have wanted. I get chills talking about it.
- 20:42Speaker 2: One of the world's most popular social media influencers, Benny Johnson,
- 20:45Speaker 2: with us here outside Turning Point USA. Benny, you talk
- 20:49Speaker 2: about chills. I came across a video of an interview
- 20:53Speaker 2: Charlie gave the morning he was killed with Fox Nation.
- 20:55Speaker 2: Did you see what he said when he was asked—
- 20:57Speaker 2: How do you live your life? What rules do you follow?
- 21:01Speaker 2: What quotes do you go by? And the first one was,
- 21:03Speaker 2: this too shall pass. I mean, he was so prophetic
- 21:07Speaker 2: hours before he was killed in Salt Lake City, almost
- 21:10Speaker 2: foreshadowing what was going to happen to him.
- 21:13Speaker 7: I will live who knows how long. But whatever my
- 21:19Speaker 7: deathbed is, I will be able to say I was
- 21:22Speaker 7: witness to a miracle. I've worked with Charlie for 10 years.
- 21:24Speaker 7: I saw the prophetic nature of his life. What 14-year-old
- 21:28Speaker 7: is wandering the halls of the RNC convention in 2012
- 21:31Speaker 7: when Mitt Romney was running for president, talking about the
- 21:35Speaker 7: vision for Turning Point, begging for his first donors, wandering
- 21:39Speaker 7: the stairwells there in Tampa? 14-year-old boys are getting Legos
- 21:43Speaker 7: stuck up their nose, not doing that. And what Charlie
- 21:45Speaker 7: has built is the single most powerful youth political organization
- 21:49Speaker 7: on earth. That is the fastest growing political organization in
- 21:52Speaker 7: the world currently.
- 21:53Speaker 5: That is the hand of God. We were witness to
- 21:55Speaker 5: a miracle. We were witness... to a prophetic.
- 21:58Speaker 7: Calling and we all got to see it in our
- 22:00Speaker 7: own ways. Some of us up close, some of us
- 22:02Speaker 7: worked with him like you did, Mike. And when we
- 22:05Speaker 7: were working with Charlie, you could actually see it. And
- 22:09Speaker 7: I don't know, other than the birth of my own children,
- 22:11Speaker 7: I don't think I'll ever be able to say I
- 22:12Speaker 7: was witness to a true miracle.
- 22:15Speaker 4: So this was a true miracle.
- 22:16Speaker 7: It's God's telling us he's real, he's working, and he's
- 22:20Speaker 7: not done with America.
- 22:21Speaker 8: Yet.
- 22:22Speaker 2: It was good to catch up with popular podcaster Benny Johnson,
- 22:25Speaker 2: and I suspect you're going to be hearing and seeing
- 22:28Speaker 2: a lot of Benny in the weeks, months, years ahead.
- 22:32Speaker 2: He's got a huge following. I think somebody told me
- 22:35Speaker 2: he's got like 6 million followers on YouTube, so good
- 22:39Speaker 2: for him. It was nice to commiserate a little bit
- 22:44Speaker 2: with Benny in Phoenix last year. Portions of our show
- 22:47Speaker 2: brought to you by a new movie, The True Story
- 22:49Speaker 2: Behind the Legend of Robin Hood. From the acclaimed director
- 22:53Speaker 2: of Captain Phillips and Jason Bourne, Focus Features presents The Uprising,
- 23:00Speaker 2: starring Andrew Garfield. An all-star cast, breathtaking visuals, visceral action.
- 23:06Speaker 2: The Uprising, a must-see cinematic action. Epic. You're going to
- 23:11Speaker 2: love it. It opens today, incidentally, The Uprising from Focus Features.
- 23:16Speaker 2: This is an epic, and you know the Robin Hood story,
- 23:19Speaker 2: but this is a look at Robin Hood in a
- 23:22Speaker 2: way that you've probably never seen it before. The true
- 23:24Speaker 2: story behind the legend of Robin Hood. Everything was taken
- 23:27Speaker 2: from him. He had nothing left to lose. One man's
- 23:31Speaker 2: stand against injustice, inspiring a movement that will change everything.
- 23:35Speaker 2: In a land of kings, a man of the people
- 23:37Speaker 2: will defy the most powerful empire on earth. and ignite
- 23:40Speaker 2: a revolution. It's The Uprising. Witness the rise of Robin Hood.
- 23:45Speaker 2: From Focus Features, it opens in theaters today. You don't
- 23:49Speaker 2: want to miss The Uprising, rated R, under 17, not
- 23:52Speaker 2: admitted without a parent. You can discover it in Dolby Cinema,
- 23:55Speaker 2: which frankly is the way to do it. Again, it's
- 23:58Speaker 2: The Uprising, starring Andrew Garfield, a version of Robin Hood
- 24:03Speaker 2: you're not going to want to miss. Again, it opens
- 24:05Speaker 2: in theaters everywhere today. And I mentioned as we started
- 24:10Speaker 2: today how important it is to do good. And this show,
- 24:17Speaker 2: this podcast, Eminem Extra, which I am honored to do
- 24:20Speaker 2: on a daily basis with my dear friend Mark Davis.
- 24:24Speaker 2: And Mark and I have been through a lot together
- 24:26Speaker 2: in the decade or so that we've become good friends together.
- 24:29Speaker 2: And this is kind of the idea that we launched
- 24:31Speaker 2: this podcast was to take the magic we do on
- 24:34Speaker 2: his radio show every morning and kind of present it
- 24:37Speaker 2: in a podcast content, podcast unique format. Mark and I
- 24:41Speaker 2: shared a trip to Guatemala on behalf of Food for
- 24:45Speaker 2: the Poor. We traveled together there to try to do
- 24:49Speaker 2: some good. Mark and I stood there in a community
- 24:53Speaker 2: where hunger is a daily reality. We watched children line
- 24:56Speaker 2: up for their meals. For a lot of kids, that's
- 24:59Speaker 2: all they get. One meal a day. A lot of
- 25:01Speaker 2: parents go without so that their kids can eat. That
- 25:05Speaker 2: stays with you. And I love the pictures. In fact,
- 25:08Speaker 2: we ought to pull out some of the pictures of
- 25:10Speaker 2: Mark and his wife, Lisa, and their son, Ethan. And
- 25:13Speaker 2: I was there and we were cradling some of these
- 25:15Speaker 2: young kids in our arms and feeding them. Food for
- 25:18Speaker 2: the Poor has been at this for 44 years. 4.7
- 25:22Speaker 2: billion meals delivered. They don't just drop boxes and leave.
- 25:27Speaker 2: They buy from local farmers. They build self-sufficiency. They give
- 25:31Speaker 2: people a way up. Right now, families are waiting. Every
- 25:34Speaker 2: day without help is another day without a meal. I'm
- 25:37Speaker 2: asking you to join us. Join the Food for the
- 25:40Speaker 2: Poor community. Your gift gives hope and a future to
- 25:43Speaker 2: families who need it the most. All you have to

- 26:04Speaker 2: Don't wait. Let's get this done together. Food for the Poor,
- 26:08Speaker 2: one of the great, great partners of the M &
- 26:10Speaker 2: M experience. We're honoring Charlie Kirk today. It's the one-year
- 26:16Speaker 2: anniversary of the assassination of our Salem media colleague. Had
- 26:21Speaker 2: an opportunity to talk to a lot of really important
- 26:25Speaker 2: people about Charlie's life. his legacy. And I liked hearing
- 26:30Speaker 2: from Charlie himself as we put this together, some of
- 26:33Speaker 2: his beliefs, his thoughts about socialism. Look, that's on the rise.
- 26:40Speaker 2: The Democrat socialists of America have chalked up a lot
- 26:43Speaker 2: of wins. And Charlie, of course, I think saw this coming.
- 26:47Speaker 2: I think the word is prescient. Charlie was very prescient
- 26:51Speaker 2: about the rise of socialism. Here are some of the
- 26:54Speaker 2: thoughts that he had about what it meant, what it
- 26:59Speaker 2: means to be an American and witness this uprising of
- 27:05Speaker 2: socialism in America.
- 27:07Speaker 3: Like the 130 million people that died under socialism in
- 27:10Speaker 3: the last 100 years. The fact that every country that
- 27:13Speaker 3: engages in a socialist direction becomes less free, less prosperous.
- 27:17Speaker 9: Do you think that maybe there's like a middle ground
- 27:20Speaker 9: where you can have a little bit of both?
- 27:23Speaker 4: Everything comes at a price.
- 27:24Speaker 3: The states that are the most socialistic are the worst
- 27:27Speaker 3: and hardest states to live in in this country. California,
- 27:29Speaker 3: New York, Illinois. have the most people leaving. Highest taxes,
- 27:33Speaker 3: most social benefits, most social welfare. And they're leaving for
- 27:36Speaker 3: states that are freer with lower taxes and more economic freedom.
- 27:39Speaker 3: So everything comes at a price. Okay.
- 27:41Speaker 5: Well, thank you.
- 27:42Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 27:42Speaker 4: Appreciate it. Thanks for your time. You've got to give
- 27:43Speaker 4: me a good reason, at least two, why you don't
- 27:46Speaker 4: like Trump. He's racist.
- 27:50Speaker 6: Yup.
- 27:50Speaker 2: Boo me.
- 27:53Speaker 8: Use Google.
- 27:54Speaker 4: Thank you, guys.
- 27:55Speaker 3: Okay, so let me ask you a dumb question. Can
- 27:58Speaker 3: you define what does it mean to be racist?
- 28:03Speaker 4: Do you want me to look up a definition?
- 28:05Speaker 3: No, no. You said he's a racist, so you must
- 28:08Speaker 3: have a definition of racism in your mind. Tell me
- 28:11Speaker 3: what that definition is.
- 28:13Speaker 4: Okay, so I'm going to make you guys wait on this. Oh,
- 28:19Speaker 4: zero knowledge.
- 28:20Speaker 5: Guys, please don't heckle.
- 28:23Speaker 3: I want to try to understand because these words have
- 28:26Speaker 3: a lot of meaning.
- 28:27Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 28:28Speaker 3: But you can't get, I know it's hard on the spot.
- 28:30Speaker 3: I just want you to think about it because if
- 28:32Speaker 3: you say Trump is a racist, you should be able
- 28:34Speaker 3: to easily give a definition of what that word means.
- 28:36Speaker 4: So it's hatred towards another race, right?
- 28:40Speaker 3: So when has he ever exhibited that? Give me clear
- 28:43Speaker 3: and specific examples.
- 28:44Speaker 7: You got one?
- 28:47Speaker 4: Um, well, yeah, I heard someone say he told, uh, told....
- 28:57Speaker 3: Yes! Okay, but let me just help you out here. What,
- 29:03Speaker 3: you think he's a racist because the media has told
- 29:05Speaker 3: you he's a racist? Because you can't give me an
- 29:07Speaker 3: example off the top of your head, and even when
- 29:09Speaker 3: you phone a friend of the audience.
- 29:11Speaker 4: I'm not criticizing you. Maybe the media is lying to you.
- 29:14Speaker 3: Maybe the man who's being called a racist is actually
- 29:17Speaker 3: someone that's trying to improve lives of all Americans.
- 29:21Speaker 10: I was just going to ask if you see the
- 29:22Speaker 10: irony in your own propaganda in the Constitution on your
- 29:26Speaker 10: brainwash tour. Having the explanations here because you don't believe
- 29:29Speaker 10: the reader is smart enough to understand the language.
- 29:31Speaker 9: Is kind of propaganda.
- 29:32Speaker 5: Well, no.
- 29:33Speaker 9: So do you know who that audience is for? For
- 29:35Speaker 9: people who can't read it. Yeah, that's a Constitution for
- 29:38Speaker 9: third graders.
- 29:39Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 29:39Speaker 3: Why are you here?
- 29:40Speaker 5: It out to college students? Let's test your knowledge.
- 29:41Speaker 4: Don't open it up.
- 29:42Speaker 5: What is the 10th Amendment? Um... Okay, let's get easier.
- 29:47Speaker 5: What's the Fourth Amendment?
- 29:49Speaker 9: Isn't that the No Quartering Act? No, that's the Third Amendment.
- 29:52Speaker 9: How many articles are there in the U.S.
- 29:53Speaker 5: Constitution?
- 29:54Speaker 10: There's eight articles.
- 29:56Speaker 2: Seven.
- 29:56Speaker 4: Seven.
- 29:57Speaker 5: What is Article 3 of the U.S.
- 29:59Speaker 4: Constitution?
- 30:00Speaker 10: I just want to ask you a question.
- 30:01Speaker 5: No, no, but I'm just saying, you came here guns a-blazing.
- 30:03Speaker 5: You do not know more than a third grader about
- 30:05Speaker 5: the U.S. Constitution.
- 30:06Speaker 2: The wisdom of the very young Charlie Kirk, who was
- 30:10Speaker 2: taken from us, of course, way too early. He had
- 30:14Speaker 2: a whole... career, a life, a trajectory ahead of him.
- 30:19Speaker 2: A lot of people think Charlie could have been elected
- 30:22Speaker 2: president of the United States. You think about folks like J.D.
- 30:25Speaker 2: Vance and Marco Rubio. Charlie, of course, would hold his
- 30:28Speaker 2: own with any of these guys who are being mentioned
- 30:31Speaker 2: as a future presidential contender. Who knows? It's amazing to
- 30:35Speaker 2: stop and think about the possibilities. You know, I mentioned
- 30:39Speaker 2: the devastating loss for America in But this, of course,
- 30:43Speaker 2: was a huge blow to the Salem media family. I
- 30:48Speaker 2: started the podcast today talking about the family that makes
- 30:52Speaker 2: up the Salem infrastructure. Well, the vice president of the
- 30:57Speaker 2: spoken word, I don't even know his exact title. I've
- 31:00Speaker 2: worked for Phil for decades. Phil Boyce is regarded as
- 31:04Speaker 2: one of the sharpest programming minds in America. He put
- 31:08Speaker 2: Sean Hannity on the radio. He put Mike Gallagher in
- 31:11Speaker 2: New York on the radio. And he discovered Charlie Kirk. Uh,
- 31:16Speaker 2: he really, and Charlie, uh, one of the most humbling
- 31:19Speaker 2: moments I ever had experienced was when Andrew Colvett stood
- 31:23Speaker 2: up in front of a group of people and said,
- 31:25Speaker 2: you know, it's been reported that Charlie grew up listening
- 31:28Speaker 2: to Rush Limbaugh, but he also grew up listening to
- 31:30Speaker 2: Mike Gallagher. Charlie was a student of talk radio and
- 31:33Speaker 2: he wanted to be the next Rush. He wanted to,
- 31:37Speaker 2: and he was on his way. And the guy who
- 31:40Speaker 2: made the decision to, To pull the trigger and put
- 31:43Speaker 2: Charlie on air was the one and only Phil Boyce, who, again,
- 31:47Speaker 2: has been my boss and my mentor for many years.
- 31:50Speaker 2: Had a great opportunity to catch up with Phil and
- 31:52Speaker 2: talk about what it meant to be running a division
- 31:58Speaker 2: of a company at a time when one of the
- 32:00Speaker 2: stars was shot dead. Here's Phil Boyce. All through this
- 32:04Speaker 2: special edition of the Mike Gallagher Show, we've wanted to
- 32:07Speaker 2: reach out to people who were impacted by Charlie's death
- 32:11Speaker 2: and who impacted Charlie. And there's a guy that I've
- 32:15Speaker 2: known for quite some time. In fact, I was adding
- 32:18Speaker 2: it up last night in anticipation of talking to Phil Boyce,
- 32:22Speaker 2: who is the Senior Vice President of Content at Salem
- 32:24Speaker 2: Media Group. He's been one of the best... broadcast minds
- 32:29Speaker 2: in America for many, many years. And he's the boss
- 32:33Speaker 2: here at Salem. But he's the guy that basically put
- 32:37Speaker 2: Charlie on the radio and essentially saw something in young
- 32:40Speaker 2: Charlie Kirk that, you know, his trained years of experience
- 32:45Speaker 2: led him to conclude. And Phil Boyce, as you join
- 32:49Speaker 2: us on this one-year anniversary of the assassination of Charlie Kirk,
- 32:54Speaker 2: It dawned on me, I started working for you at
- 32:57Speaker 2: WABC in New York in 1996. Do you realize that
- 33:01Speaker 2: was 30 years ago, Mr.
- 33:03Speaker 5: Boyce?
- 33:07Speaker 8: Teenage years or maybe before that, I don't know. That's
- 33:10Speaker 8: a long time.
- 33:12Speaker 2: It's a long time, three decades together. You've been in
- 33:15Speaker 2: my life for a very, very long time. And, of course,
- 33:17Speaker 2: you and Diana, Lady Di, as we call her, mean
- 33:19Speaker 2: a lot to me and your kids. And we've been
- 33:21Speaker 2: through a lot of highs and lows together. We always
- 33:24Speaker 2: joked about standing by the printer and singing Now the
- 33:28Speaker 2: End is Near. If the ratings came in the way
- 33:30Speaker 2: we didn't like it, it'd be W-A-B-C. And, of course,
- 33:33Speaker 2: on a very serious note, we've been through terrible, terrible
- 33:37Speaker 2: situations like the loss of our colleague, and our friend
- 33:41Speaker 2: Charlie Kirk a year ago. Can you share as a
- 33:44Speaker 2: guy who manages and hires and recruits talent what you
- 33:49Speaker 2: saw in Charlie Kirk that maybe others didn't see? Because
- 33:53Speaker 2: obviously something stood out to you and you made it
- 33:57Speaker 2: a point to be sure that Charlie had a platform
- 34:00Speaker 2: here at Salem Media. Well, that's true.
- 34:03Speaker 8: When you mentioned 1996, Charlie, Fast forward a little bit
- 34:07Speaker 8: to 2019, which is when I met Charlie walking down
- 34:12Speaker 8: the corridor at CPAC. And that was at the Gaylord
- 34:16Speaker 8: National right outside Washington, D.C. And I had been watching
- 34:20Speaker 8: Charlie up to that point and been thinking, Charlie has
- 34:23Speaker 8: the gift. He knows how to do talk radio. And
- 34:28Speaker 8: I didn't know the backstory as to why he knew,
- 34:31Speaker 8: but I just felt like he knew. So when I
- 34:33Speaker 8: see him coming down the hallway and there's a bunch
- 34:36Speaker 8: of people around him, I finally was able to get
- 34:38Speaker 8: along with him. And I said, Charlie, have you ever
- 34:40Speaker 8: thought about going on the radio or being a podcaster?
- 34:44Speaker 8: Because at that time, Salem was thinking about starting the
- 34:47Speaker 8: Salem Podcast Network. And he said, yes, I've thought about
- 34:51Speaker 8: it and I've signed a deal with another company and
- 34:55Speaker 8: I'm getting ready to start my podcast here in about
- 34:58Speaker 8: a month.
- 34:59Speaker 5: And of course, I was disappointed.
- 35:00Speaker 8: But I said, look. Why don't you do this deal
- 35:03Speaker 8: with them, of course, do well, build your podcast into
- 35:07Speaker 8: good numbers. And then at the end of whatever this
- 35:09Speaker 8: time is, and it turned out it was about a
- 35:12Speaker 8: year I was going to get a call from him.
- 35:13Speaker 8: At the end of that time, call me back and
- 35:16Speaker 8: let me know how it's working for you. And if
- 35:18Speaker 8: you're happy there, then we sign with them.
- 35:20Speaker 5: If you're not.
- 35:21Speaker 8: We'll be waiting here for you. Well, he did call.
- 35:24Speaker 8: It was actually Andrew Colvett who called me. I'd never
- 35:26Speaker 8: met Andrew before, who's his longtime agent and producer, and
- 35:31Speaker 8: said he wanted to talk to Salem about bringing the podcast,
- 35:35Speaker 8: which at that point had become quite successful, and he
- 35:38Speaker 8: wanted to bring it over to Salem. And so we
- 35:40Speaker 8: started working that out. But one thing that Charlie told
- 35:43Speaker 8: me in the first time that I met with him
- 35:46Speaker 8: was that he wanted to be the guy to someday
- 35:49Speaker 8: fill Rush Limbaugh's shoes. Now, that told me a lot
- 35:52Speaker 8: about him because not too many people were big enough
- 35:56Speaker 8: at that time to even consider filling Rush Limbaugh's shoes.
- 36:00Speaker 8: The fact that he was thinking like that meant that
- 36:03Speaker 8: he was thinking big. And he had.
- 36:06Speaker 5: a belief in.
- 36:07Speaker 8: Himself that he could do this. Now, my problem was
- 36:11Speaker 8: that the Rush Limbaugh slot, which is noon to three Eastern,
- 36:16Speaker 8: was also Dennis Prager's slot. So if I was to
- 36:19Speaker 8: bring Charlie onto the Salem platform, I had to figure
- 36:22Speaker 8: out a way to squeeze the two together and convince
- 36:25Speaker 8: stations to take both. That took quite a bit of doing.
- 36:29Speaker 8: But after we got him signed and we were able
- 36:32Speaker 8: to launch the radio show, stations began to take an
- 36:35Speaker 8: hour of Charlie and two hours of Prager. Now, here's
- 36:39Speaker 8: the kind of classy guy Dennis Prager is and was. Dennis,
- 36:43Speaker 8: of course, he's not going to be happy that we're
- 36:45Speaker 8: giving an hour of his show away to Charlie Kirk.
- 36:48Speaker 8: But he said, look, because it's Charlie, I believe in
- 36:51Speaker 8: him so much, I'm not going to have a problem
- 36:54Speaker 8: with this. So Dennis Prager was big enough to say,
- 37:00Speaker 8: Squeeze Charlie in over the top of my show. We'll
- 37:03Speaker 8: somehow make it work. And we did, which was really
- 37:06Speaker 8: the amazing thing. When we went back over the archives
- 37:10Speaker 8: to find some of the clips that we wanted to
- 37:12Speaker 8: pull out to run a Charlie Kirk tribute, one of
- 37:15Speaker 8: them was a 2015 interview that Dennis Prager did with
- 37:18Speaker 8: 22-year-old Charlie Kirk. And it's fascinating to hear what they
- 37:25Speaker 8: were talking about at that time. Now, remember, Charlie had
- 37:28Speaker 8: started Turning Point USA in his parents' garage when he
- 37:32Speaker 8: was 18. So at that point, that was four years later,
- 37:36Speaker 8: it was starting to grow and build and become a
- 37:38Speaker 8: big organization. So that's the amazing thing about Charlie. He
- 37:42Speaker 8: had big dreams, big goals, believed in himself, and he
- 37:47Speaker 8: knew he could do it. And look, I've met many
- 37:50Speaker 8: talk show hosts who have the same feeling, but it's
- 37:53Speaker 8: that one feeling, the drive to succeed that I find
- 37:57Speaker 8: in all of these talk show hosts, you included, Mike,
- 38:00Speaker 8: Sean Hannity, Mark Levin, all of the guys we have
- 38:03Speaker 8: now at Salem.
- 38:04Speaker 4: I see that quality in them.
- 38:07Speaker 2: Well, you also have an ability to let your faith
- 38:12Speaker 2: get you through real challenging times. We're talking to my boss,
- 38:16Speaker 2: Phil Boyce, who's the Senior Vice President of Content here
- 38:18Speaker 2: in Salem Media. You mentioned, Dennis, you know, I look
- 38:23Speaker 2: at what the last few years have meant for our
- 38:25Speaker 2: company and to you. Of course, losing Charlie a year
- 38:28Speaker 2: ago today to an assassin's bullet. We lost Seb Gorka
- 38:32Speaker 2: to the White House. He wanted to work for President Trump.
- 38:34Speaker 2: He had a thriving show on Salem Media. Dennis, of course,
- 38:38Speaker 2: had a terrible fall at his home in Los Angeles.
- 38:42Speaker 2: In the Los Angeles area, we lost Dennis. We lost
- 38:45Speaker 2: Chris DeGaulle who wanted to go become a congressman, and
- 38:48Speaker 2: God bless him. But, Phil, every time I'd say to you,
- 38:53Speaker 2: how are you getting through this? Because, look, this falls
- 38:56Speaker 2: on your shoulders and the executive team at Salem to
- 38:59Speaker 2: have to make decisions that are very tricky and very complicated.
- 39:03Speaker 2: And even though we're dealing with human loss and lives
- 39:06Speaker 2: and heartache and pain— we're a business and you've got to,
- 39:11Speaker 2: you're the guy that's got to keep, as they say,
- 39:13Speaker 2: the proverbial trains running on time. But you always had
- 39:16Speaker 2: a very simple answer to me as to where you
- 39:19Speaker 2: turned when you have these challenges. And I hope you
- 39:22Speaker 2: don't mind sharing your answer with our audience because you
- 39:26Speaker 2: have been tested, my friend, the company has been tested
- 39:29Speaker 2: and yet we kind of know where to go when
- 39:32Speaker 2: we have these tests in front of us.
- 39:35Speaker 8: Yeah, we've never been through anything like this at Salem
- 39:39Speaker 8: for the last year and a half. As you mentioned,
- 39:41Speaker 8: all those that we lost and some of them for
- 39:44Speaker 8: good things, some of them for bad things. And in
- 39:47Speaker 8: every single case, God sent a replacement. And I have
- 39:52Speaker 8: to turn my faith and my trust to the Lord.
- 39:54Speaker 8: I could not do this by myself. People ask me, well,
- 39:58Speaker 8: where did you get this ability to pick great talk
- 40:01Speaker 8: talent like the ones that I've mentioned? And it's really
- 40:04Speaker 8: not me. I think it's a gift that God gave
- 40:07Speaker 8: me at an early age. I think I'm better managing
- 40:10Speaker 8: people and in the C-suite than I am on the air.
- 40:14Speaker 8: I started out on the air like a lot of
- 40:16Speaker 8: us did at an AM rocker. And I thought it
- 40:18Speaker 8: was the funnest thing I'd ever had the opportunity to do.
- 40:22Speaker 8: Little did I know where it was going to lead me.
- 40:25Speaker 8: And of course, now... Helping Salem through this difficult time
- 40:29Speaker 8: and finding new talent and fighting the battle that we're
- 40:32Speaker 8: in with this country. It's a thrilling opportunity, one that
- 40:36Speaker 8: I always thank the Lord for because I couldn't do
- 40:40Speaker 8: it without him.
- 40:41Speaker 2: Well, to be able to take time today to just
- 40:44Speaker 2: focus on the Charlie Kirk we knew and loved is important.
- 40:48Speaker 2: You've been an important part of his life. Look, he
- 40:51Speaker 2: was a student of talk radio. I'll never, ever forget
- 40:55Speaker 2: having my heart touched by Andrew Colvett. who stood up
- 40:58Speaker 2: at a group in Tampa, Florida one day and said,
- 41:01Speaker 2: it's always been reported that Charlie grew up listening to
- 41:03Speaker 2: Rush Limbaugh, but in reality, Charlie not only listened and
- 41:06Speaker 2: grew up on Rush Limbaugh, he grew up on Mike Gallagher.
- 41:09Speaker 2: And that just, to this day, I get a little
- 41:12Speaker 2: emotional when I think of that because to believe that
- 41:15Speaker 2: any of us old-timers had any impact on Charlie's life
- 41:20Speaker 2: is incredible. And I will tell you, Phil, on a
- 41:22Speaker 2: very personal note, to know you and work for you
- 41:25Speaker 2: for the better part of 30 years, It's been a
- 41:27Speaker 2: real blessing in my life because there are very few managers,
- 41:31Speaker 2: very few bosses in the universe who have the kind
- 41:34Speaker 2: of core convictions you have to do the right thing,
- 41:37Speaker 2: to tell the truth, to have our backs. And just
- 41:41Speaker 2: know that you're– and I'm not just saying it because
- 41:44Speaker 2: you're my boss, but I'm saying it because I admire
- 41:46Speaker 2: you greatly. I'm glad you could spend a few minutes
- 41:47Speaker 2: with us today on this special episode of The Mike
- 41:50Speaker 2: Gallagher Show honoring Charlie Kirk. Thank you, Phil. Keep fighting
- 41:54Speaker 2: the good fight, boss.
- 41:54Speaker 1: Thank you, Mike.
- 41:55Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 41:56Speaker 8: And same to you, Mike. Thank you. Thank you very much.
- 42:00Speaker 2: Phil Boyce, our boss here at Salem Media, talking about
- 42:04Speaker 2: the passing of Charlie Kirk. Look, portions of our show
- 42:08Speaker 2: are sponsored by some great companies and businesses that make
- 42:11Speaker 2: your life better, like Ph.D. Weight Loss. If you've noticed, hey,
- 42:16Speaker 2: this past year I got a little sloppy with my
- 42:18Speaker 2: weight progress. A few years ago I lost over 50 pounds.
- 42:22Speaker 2: the PhD weight loss way. And thanks to Dr. Ashley
- 42:25Speaker 2: Lucas and her brilliant program, giving me the tools for life.
- 42:28Speaker 2: I know what to do. And if I fall off
- 42:30Speaker 2: the wagon, if I get a little sloppy and if
- 42:32Speaker 2: I get lazy and I eat junk like I did
- 42:35Speaker 2: over the last six months or so, well, then I
- 42:38Speaker 2: get right back on the bandwagon, get right back up
- 42:40Speaker 2: on the horse. I thought I needed to lose about
- 42:42Speaker 2: 10 or 15. I took off another almost 30, 25,
- 42:46Speaker 2: 30 pounds just in the last couple of months because
- 42:49Speaker 2: PhD works. it's a godsend for me. If I can
- 42:54Speaker 2: take that weight off without being hungry, anybody can do it.
- 42:57Speaker 2: The quick fixes, they eventually fail. You need to know
- 43:00Speaker 2: what's causing the weight in the first place. The metabolism
- 43:03Speaker 2: and PhD weight loss is right there for you. Right now,
- 43:07Speaker 2: when you call and mention the M & M podcast,
- 43:09Speaker 2: the M & M Extra podcast, They're going to give
- 43:11Speaker 2: you two free weeks added to the program. They'll pay

- 43:35Speaker 2: you about what Preborn is all about. They offer free
- 43:38Speaker 2: ultrasounds to girls and women. When a young woman sees
- 43:41Speaker 2: her baby in the womb, hears her baby's heartbeat, it
- 43:46Speaker 2: actually doubles the chance. And they know this. They've studied this.
- 43:49Speaker 2: It doubles the chance that she's going to choose life
- 43:52Speaker 2: over abortion. $ 140 helps gives five moms a free ultrasound.
- 43:54Speaker 2: Saves babies. $ 280 saves 10 babies. And just $ 28 a
- 43:56Speaker 2: month can help save a baby a month for less
- 43:59Speaker 2: than a dollar a day pre-born. Wonderful organization, a very
- 44:10Speaker 2: special place, and I'm so thankful that Preborn is our
- 44:15Speaker 2: title sponsor. Preborn, make the call, make the donation, support
- 44:19Speaker 2: them today. Call 833-850-BABY, 833-850-BABY, or go to preborn.com slash mmextra.
- 44:23Speaker 2: Thank you for giving the gift of life, Preborn. Go

- 44:38Speaker 2: a big note of appreciation and gratitude to Preborn for
- 44:42Speaker 2: being our title sponsor. I mentioned at the outset that
- 44:45Speaker 2: on this one-year anniversary of Charlie Kirk, the movie Can
- 44:48Speaker 2: You Hear Me Now? Let's hear one last snippet from
- 44:53Speaker 2: this great movie. This is Charlie. Charlie Kirk talking about
- 44:57Speaker 2: the power of standing up, the courage, the determination, the
- 45:02Speaker 2: grit it takes to stand up and fight for what
- 45:06Speaker 2: you believe in.
- 45:07Speaker 3: Stop being so next life focused if it comes at
- 45:11Speaker 3: the cost of you not caring about this life. We're
- 45:15Speaker 3: all concerned about the next life, as we should be. Okay,
- 45:18Speaker 3: my kingdom is out of this world. But Jesus said,
- 45:20Speaker 3: on this earth, thy will be done, right? My kingdom
- 45:26Speaker 3: on this earth, as it says in the Lord's Prayer, right?
- 45:29Speaker 3: And so we're supposed to bring heaven to earth if
- 45:33Speaker 3: we can. Satan would love Christians to kind of just
- 45:36Speaker 3: be a spectator. to sit idly by, not engage, not participate.
- 45:41Speaker 3: Is your hesitation rooted in biblical truth or in kind
- 45:45Speaker 3: of fleshly gain? Are you afraid of the names that
- 45:49Speaker 3: people are going to call you? Are you afraid of
- 45:51Speaker 3: the criticisms, the accusations you might receive? And it's up
- 45:55Speaker 3: for us Christians to keep America a good nation, an
- 45:59Speaker 3: even better nation, and for us to understand that it
- 46:03Speaker 3: is the word of God that needs to be the
- 46:04Speaker 3: bedrock of any functioning and flourishing civilization.
- 46:07Speaker 2: Charlie Kirk, the one-year anniversary of his passing. Tomorrow, Mark returns,
- 46:12Speaker 2: and we will present a special 9-11 tribute. It will
- 46:15Speaker 2: be the 25th anniversary of 9-11. That will be tomorrow
- 46:20Speaker 2: on the M & M podcast. I hope you join
- 46:22Speaker 2: us then. In the meantime, again, keep Charlie in your
- 46:24Speaker 2: heart today. God bless Charlie Kirk. Thanks for joining us.
- 46:27Speaker 2: I'm Mike Gallagher on behalf of Mark Davis for the
- 46:31Speaker 2: M & M Extra.
