- 0:03Speaker 1: Hello, Hello, and welcome into foul Territory. I'm Trisher Weathercare
- 0:07Speaker 1: along with a couple of my favorites, Kevin Billar Todd Frazier.
- 0:10Speaker 1: We are ready for a fantastic day of talking a
- 0:14Speaker 1: lot of baseball. Subscribe tweeted us hashtag FT and by
- 0:18Speaker 1: merch at Foul Territory shop dot com. Guys, I think
- 0:22Speaker 1: the first thing that we have to do is say
- 0:25Speaker 1: congratulations to Red Sox fans, because they're kind of this
- 0:28Speaker 1: surprise team right now. They're in the middle of a
- 0:31Speaker 1: thirteen game winning streak and that's pretty incredible when you
- 0:36Speaker 1: consider the way that they started the season.
- 0:38Speaker 2: Guys, right, Kip, Yeah, I'm excited to talk to Tim
- 0:41Speaker 2: later on. But you know, I was covering the Blue
- 0:44Speaker 2: Jays middle of June. Watched the Red Sox play, and
- 0:47Speaker 2: I honestly thought they were one of the worst teams
- 0:49Speaker 2: that I had seen. I had been following a lot
- 0:51Speaker 2: of teams in the division covering the Blue Jays, and
- 0:53Speaker 2: I thought they were an awful team. I thought they
- 0:55Speaker 2: were going to be written off. The fact that they've
- 0:57Speaker 2: won thirteen in a row is incredible. Watched in the
- 1:00Speaker 2: last four days, there was something really special going on there,
- 1:04Speaker 2: especially Saturday's game. They were down late in the game,
- 1:07Speaker 2: William Ray, you came up with that big home run,
- 1:09Speaker 2: but you could kind of just see Fenway. The entire
- 1:12Speaker 2: team is starting to believe that something magical is about
- 1:14Speaker 2: to happen.
- 1:16Speaker 3: Listen, it's all about ebbs and flows of the year,
- 1:19Speaker 3: and it's all about how you handle those ebbs and flows.
- 1:23Speaker 3: They are on an epic run right now. Everybody talked
- 1:25Speaker 3: about this team being out of the woods. Everybody talked
- 1:28Speaker 3: about breaking this team down, sending everybody out.
- 1:31Speaker 4: I think it all it took was a.
- 1:33Speaker 3: Little contrarous magic here getting angry at some people and
- 1:37Speaker 3: lighting a fire not only under his rear end, but
- 1:40Speaker 3: everybody else's.
- 1:41Speaker 4: I think that's all it took. And now you're seeing that.
- 1:44Speaker 3: You go on a run during the season, you know,
- 1:47Speaker 3: a twenty game eighteen and two was seventeen and three.
- 1:50Speaker 3: This time, what twelve, maybe thirteen, maybe fourteen in a
- 1:53Speaker 3: row like this is fantastic.
- 1:55Speaker 4: You get right back into it.
- 1:57Speaker 3: If you worry about your team anybody else's, I promise you,
- 2:02Speaker 3: when you do go on that run, everything else will
- 2:04Speaker 3: start stacking up.
- 2:06Speaker 4: I control, I blind Contrara's for this one in a
- 2:09Speaker 4: good way.
- 2:09Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. Give Contraras some credit. Like, I know, he's
- 2:13Speaker 1: kind of been you know, obviously he's Contraras's. He plays
- 2:15Speaker 1: with a lot of fire, but he's been in the
- 2:17Speaker 1: news recently for all that stuff that happened. But like, guys,
- 2:20Speaker 1: I like love the way that he plays. We have
- 2:22Speaker 1: the Red Sox on Apple TV on Friday at Fenway.
- 2:26Speaker 5: It's Blue Jay's Red Sox, and I'm.
- 2:28Speaker 1: So excited because he always fires me up with the
- 2:30Speaker 1: way he plays. I know people have their different opinions
- 2:32Speaker 1: on him, but I like that fire and I think
- 2:34Speaker 1: it's good for the game.
- 2:36Speaker 5: We're gonna take a lot more go ahead.
- 2:38Speaker 2: I was gonna say it's it's pretty amazing. And me
- 2:40Speaker 2: and Kratty talked about this last time. I was on
- 2:42Speaker 2: the fact that he was a catcher and that he's
- 2:44Speaker 2: moved to first base and when you watch him play,
- 2:47Speaker 2: it looks like he's played first base his whole life.
- 2:49Speaker 2: And really what it's done for his offensive game. I
- 2:52Speaker 2: think he already has more homers at this point, a
- 2:55Speaker 2: new career high. You know, a couple of games into
- 2:57Speaker 2: the unofficial second half of the season. So it's pretty
- 3:00Speaker 2: amazing what he's been able to do and obviously his
- 3:03Speaker 2: leadership ability, what he used to do behind the plate,
- 3:06Speaker 2: he's now brought to that clubhouse in Boston, And like
- 3:10Speaker 2: Todd Father said, you got to blame this guy for
- 3:12Speaker 2: kind of sparking this kind of run that this team's
- 3:15Speaker 2: been on.
- 3:16Speaker 1: Or thank him because it makes the Al East that
- 3:18Speaker 1: much more exciting right now, right, I fricking love it.
- 3:21Speaker 1: I'm so excited to have the Red Sox on Apple
- 3:23Speaker 1: on Friday, and we're gonna talk a lot more Red
- 3:25Speaker 1: Sox with Tim Healy at one forty five. So if
- 3:28Speaker 1: you're a Red Sox fan and you're watching, don't leave us,
- 3:30Speaker 1: because you're not gonna want to miss that conversation. All Right,
- 3:33Speaker 1: it is time for charge the mound's charging about.
- 3:39Speaker 4: All right?
- 3:40Speaker 1: Our first topic of discussion here, guys, you've seen it
- 3:43Speaker 1: everywhere in the news show. Hey Otani, he's not gonna
- 3:46Speaker 1: pitch against the Phillies. The Dodgers are being cautious with
- 3:49Speaker 1: his knee recovery. There's our good friend Katie Wu making
- 3:53Speaker 1: the report. Like I said, they're just being cautious. They
- 3:56Speaker 1: don't have a date for when he could make his
- 3:59Speaker 1: next Pitching Star art. But there you see a quote
- 4:01Speaker 1: from Dodgers manager Dave Roberts. He said, we just want
- 4:04Speaker 1: to continue to give thee the best chance to get
- 4:07Speaker 1: into a good spot. And I guess, guys, you can
- 4:11Speaker 1: certainly understand that.
- 4:12Speaker 5: KP. What was your initial reaction when you saw this news?
- 4:16Speaker 2: Yeah, you know what's interesting, you know, I think my
- 4:18Speaker 2: immediate response went to see, he's a generation, lifetime player.
- 4:24Speaker 2: But I immediately went to the rules of the game,
- 4:26Speaker 2: like Otawny is, you know, on the roster as a
- 4:30Speaker 2: pitcher and a hitter, and like, if he's not able
- 4:33Speaker 2: to pitch for a certain amount of time, does it
- 4:35Speaker 2: change the way that they are able to kind of
- 4:37Speaker 2: maneuver their roster. And the other thing I kind of
- 4:40Speaker 2: thought about too, is I mean, it's a four time MVP,
- 4:43Speaker 2: he's probably on pace to win his fifth. But the
- 4:46Speaker 2: Dodgers are trying to do something that hasn't been done
- 4:49Speaker 2: in a long, long, long, long long time, and trying
- 4:51Speaker 2: to win three consecutive World Series. At what point do
- 4:54Speaker 2: the Dodgers decide, Hey, maybe we just shut him down
- 4:57Speaker 2: for a little bit of time. Let's allow him to
- 4:59Speaker 2: get fully healthy. He had watched the second game of
- 5:01Speaker 2: the doubleheader last night against the Yankees, and he didn't
- 5:04Speaker 2: look one hundred percent. And obviously otawani at that's called
- 5:08Speaker 2: seventy percent is better than most players on this planet.
- 5:11Speaker 2: But if the Dodgers are trying to do something like
- 5:13Speaker 2: win a third consecutive World Series, you know, at what
- 5:17Speaker 2: point do they have that conversation with him, the organization
- 5:20Speaker 2: and maybe just give him a couple weeks off to
- 5:23Speaker 2: allow the need to heal, allow him to come back
- 5:25Speaker 2: and do what makes him really special and be that
- 5:27Speaker 2: two way player.
- 5:29Speaker 4: Listen, these Dodgers.
- 5:31Speaker 3: I call them these Dodgers because they're like by themselves
- 5:34Speaker 3: eleven and a half game lead in the NL West.
- 5:38Speaker 3: I mean, I gotta be honest with you. I I
- 5:40Speaker 3: think this is it's a gift in a curse.
- 5:42Speaker 4: You know.
- 5:42Speaker 3: The gift is somebody else can get on the mound
- 5:45Speaker 3: and get some reps and see if this guy, one
- 5:48Speaker 3: or two guys can come in playoffs and be like,
- 5:51Speaker 3: all right, I feel comfortable throwing this guy in the
- 5:53Speaker 3: you know, the fifth inning to go two or three innings.
- 5:55Speaker 4: You know, this is the been the Dodgers m MO.
- 5:57Speaker 3: You know, some guys get injured, other guys up and
- 6:00Speaker 3: they find one or two other horses, whether it's hitting
- 6:03Speaker 3: or pitching, to help them along.
- 6:05Speaker 4: The way saw yesterday in the game.
- 6:08Speaker 3: The couple of bats they saw it Tony the one
- 6:10Speaker 3: at bat, he didn't look good striking out against Bednar,
- 6:13Speaker 3: swinging out a lot of different pitches. He looked all
- 6:15Speaker 3: over the place. But then he hit a groundball at
- 6:17Speaker 3: first base and he ran it out and almost beat
- 6:20Speaker 3: it and rolled his ankle. So I think everybody in
- 6:22Speaker 3: the West Coast was holding their breath. But he came
- 6:25Speaker 3: back from it. It looked like he ran off fine,
- 6:27Speaker 3: and he was fine after that. But again he looked
- 6:30Speaker 3: like he was moving a little bit. So that's going
- 6:32Speaker 3: to give some hope knowing that he's for me at least,
- 6:34Speaker 3: that he's closer to getting to that one hundred percent mark.
- 6:38Speaker 3: You know, not everybody's going to be one hundred percent,
- 6:40Speaker 3: but close to where he needs to be moving forward.
- 6:44Speaker 4: They have all the time in the world. This is
- 6:46Speaker 4: what they do.
- 6:47Speaker 3: All their horses will be one hundred percent and then
- 6:49Speaker 3: they'll move on and make that big run in the playoffs.
- 6:51Speaker 3: So yeah, I mean, would it be smart to just
- 6:55Speaker 3: sit him for fifteen to twenty days. Yeah, but I
- 6:58Speaker 3: don't think that's in his nature or what he wants
- 7:00Speaker 3: to do. But again, KP, I love exactly what you're saying.
- 7:03Speaker 3: You can easily do that and then kickstart him for
- 7:06Speaker 3: you know, say mid August September range, and then he'll
- 7:09Speaker 3: be ready to rock.
- 7:12Speaker 6: What if you can actually have it all? And I'm
- 7:14Speaker 6: talking about Mintmobile taking the premium wireless bouginess crats, but
- 7:20Speaker 6: then bringing it to the transparency in pricing and the
- 7:23Speaker 6: affordability in pricing.
- 7:25Speaker 7: They're gonna lay everything out there with a cheap bill
- 7:28Speaker 7: that you know what everybody can handle right now.
- 7:32Speaker 6: You can even bring your current phone and your number
- 7:34Speaker 6: if you're thinking about it and you're like, I'm worried
- 7:36Speaker 6: about that, No worries. They have you covered because they're
- 7:39Speaker 6: able to convert people all the time to the Mintmobile way.
- 7:42Speaker 6: Go to mintmobile dot com slash territory. That's mintmobile dot
- 7:45Speaker 6: com slash territory. Cut your wireless bill of fifteen bucks
- 7:48Speaker 6: a month at mintmobile dot com slash territory.
- 7:50Speaker 4: That's it.
- 7:51Speaker 6: There's no catch upfront payment of forty five dollars for
- 7:54Speaker 6: three months ninety dollars for six months or one hundred
- 7:56Speaker 6: and eighty dollars for twelve month. Plan required fifteen dollars
- 7:59Speaker 6: per month equivalent taxes and fees extra initial plan term
- 8:02Speaker 6: only greater than fifty gigabytes may slow when network is busy.
- 8:06Speaker 6: Includes up to twenty gigabyte hotspot capable device required availability,
- 8:10Speaker 6: speed and coverage varies Cementmobile dot Com.
- 8:13Speaker 1: Yeah, like you said, you know, the Dodgers, they're going
- 8:16Speaker 1: to be fine. They got that eleven and a half
- 8:17Speaker 1: game lead. They're still going to honor a six man rotation.
- 8:20Speaker 1: And their hope is that Blake Snell, who threw on
- 8:23Speaker 1: Saturday in this first rehab start, will you know, be
- 8:26Speaker 1: built up to return at.
- 8:28Speaker 5: The beginning of August.
- 8:29Speaker 2: I believe it is.
- 8:29Speaker 1: But guys, here's the next question I wanted to ask you,
- 8:33Speaker 1: and we'll go to you first, Todd on this one.
- 8:36Speaker 1: Does this likely take him out of this cy young conversation?
- 8:40Speaker 1: I know Ken Rosenthal really talked about this a lot
- 8:43Speaker 1: on Fair Territory today.
- 8:45Speaker 4: Yeah, I think it does. I think it does.
- 8:48Speaker 3: He's you know, you have to pitch, you have to pitch,
- 8:51Speaker 3: and you got to put numbers up as a pitcher.
- 8:52Speaker 3: I mean, first and foremost, the guy is absolutely incredible.
- 8:56Speaker 4: He's a unicorn.
- 8:56Speaker 3: As we talked about what he's been doing, I don't
- 8:59Speaker 3: know how you body can keep up with everything, and
- 9:02Speaker 3: you're seeing it is taking a toll here and there.
- 9:04Speaker 3: But yeah, I think if he doesn't, you know, eventually
- 9:08Speaker 3: get on the mound here, sooner than later, I think
- 9:10Speaker 3: it's a done deal for somebody else.
- 9:14Speaker 4: Yeah, I I it might be.
- 9:15Speaker 3: It might be a year for another pitcher to come
- 9:19Speaker 3: in there and steal this cy Young award. You know,
- 9:24Speaker 3: I don't think it really matters for him anymore right now.
- 9:26Speaker 3: I think he wants to be one hundred percent healthy
- 9:28Speaker 3: and win another World Series, you know, on the selfish shot.
- 9:31Speaker 3: I'd like to see him keep rocking and try and
- 9:33Speaker 3: win another cy Young. But that's just the nature of
- 9:36Speaker 3: the piece. He's not one hundred percent, and I think
- 9:38Speaker 3: it does take him out of the running.
- 9:40Speaker 1: Yeah, it certainly probably does. And like you said, that's
- 9:43Speaker 1: probably not even remotely on his mind right now right
- 9:46Speaker 1: KP No.
- 9:48Speaker 2: I think he was on his mind going into the season.
- 9:50Speaker 2: I don't think it's on his mind right now. But
- 9:52Speaker 2: I think with everything that he's accomplished obviously winning World Series,
- 9:56Speaker 2: you know, four time MVP. I think that was kind
- 9:58Speaker 2: of the last thing to potentially solidify him as the
- 10:02Speaker 2: greatest player to ever play this game. No one else
- 10:05Speaker 2: on earth has ever won four MVPs and then go
- 10:07Speaker 2: out and win a cy Young too. So I definitely
- 10:10Speaker 2: think there's some disappointment with him with everything that's kind
- 10:14Speaker 2: of happened this year with his health. But like Todd mentioned,
- 10:17Speaker 2: this guy's doing something that hasn't been done, you know,
- 10:20Speaker 2: since Babe Ruth, and Babe Ruth didn't even actually do
- 10:23Speaker 2: it as long a lot of us thought he had
- 10:25Speaker 2: done it, you know, the idea of pitching and hitting simultaneously.
- 10:29Speaker 2: So eventually, yes, it's gonna take a toll on his body.
- 10:32Speaker 2: I know how much it took a toll on my body,
- 10:34Speaker 2: just prepare to, you know, play the outfield hit and
- 10:38Speaker 2: not have to go through this other idea of throwing
- 10:40Speaker 2: bullpens and then pitching and then the recovery, all the
- 10:42Speaker 2: things that go into it. So I definitely think it
- 10:45Speaker 2: takes him out of the cy Young race. I think
- 10:48Speaker 2: it would have been an amazing accomplishment if he was
- 10:51Speaker 2: able to do it, But the fact that he just
- 10:52Speaker 2: hasn't been able to kind of rack up the amount
- 10:56Speaker 2: of innings probably necessary for him to win a cy
- 10:58Speaker 2: Young I'll just probably need to do what's best for
- 11:01Speaker 2: them long term trying to win another World Series.
- 11:05Speaker 3: I'm gonna get four names KP Jacob Mazerowski, Chris Sale,
- 11:10Speaker 3: Chase Burns, Christopher Sanchez. I mean, those are four really
- 11:13Speaker 3: good guys right there. I think they're all on the
- 11:15Speaker 3: running here as they move forward. I'm gonna ask you,
- 11:17Speaker 3: who do you think is the guy right now? If
- 11:19Speaker 3: oh Tony can't keep pitching.
- 11:21Speaker 2: Well, it's definitely the me is you look at to
- 11:24Speaker 2: do this? I mean the high velocity, the showmanship, obviously
- 11:28Speaker 2: the statistics to back, but to me kind of the
- 11:31Speaker 2: dark horse and all this is Chris Sale. What Chris
- 11:34Speaker 2: Sale has done since he's gone to Atlanta and just
- 11:37Speaker 2: continue to get better when it's incredible, He's defined the
- 11:40Speaker 2: odds of getting older. I do think with kind of
- 11:44Speaker 2: the way that Milwaukee potentially navigates down the stretch with
- 11:49Speaker 2: the Miz being a younger pitcher not kind of having
- 11:52Speaker 2: a ton of innings under his belt in his career,
- 11:54Speaker 2: I do think there's a potential for them to maybe
- 11:57Speaker 2: baby him a little bit down the stretch, knowing that
- 11:59Speaker 2: they're destined for the postseason again and what they really
- 12:02Speaker 2: need is a healthy miss in the postseason. I do
- 12:04Speaker 2: think there was an opportunity for Chris Sale, who really
- 12:07Speaker 2: has no inning limits. This guy's a generational I think
- 12:11Speaker 2: with his most recent cy Young, I think he cemented
- 12:14Speaker 2: himself in Cooperstown. He's the guy that I would I
- 12:18Speaker 2: don't know what the betting odds are right now, but
- 12:20Speaker 2: I would like to put money on because I think
- 12:22Speaker 2: he has the ability to kind of sneak up and
- 12:25Speaker 2: ultimately win another Cy Young.
- 12:27Speaker 1: I would love to see him win a say Young
- 12:30Speaker 1: at thirty seven years old, Like, fire me up that.
- 12:34Speaker 1: And maybe it's just because I'm thirty six years old
- 12:36Speaker 1: and I'm like, I want to root for the old
- 12:38Speaker 1: guys in the game, you know, because that relates to
- 12:41Speaker 1: me a little bit. But that would fire me up.
- 12:43Speaker 1: I would love that. All right, Let's talk about another
- 12:45Speaker 1: piece of news for the Dodgers right now. Will Smith
- 12:46Speaker 1: is out for another month, and of course we know
- 12:50Speaker 1: the deadline is quickly approaching. There's a couple of layers
- 12:53Speaker 1: to that. There could his injury change the Dodgers trade
- 12:57Speaker 1: deadline plan. And what do you guys think they're gonna do?
- 13:00Speaker 1: Are they gonna explore the starting pitching market? You know,
- 13:03Speaker 1: with Shoehy scratched again, how does this change things?
- 13:05Speaker 5: What do you see?
- 13:06Speaker 2: KP? Yeah, I don't think catchings are concerned. Obviously, they
- 13:10Speaker 2: have Dalton Rushing, who on most teams is a starting catcher.
- 13:14Speaker 2: He's a young kid, but he's kind of evolved into
- 13:17Speaker 2: that role of being the everyday catcher for the Dodgers
- 13:19Speaker 2: while Will Smith is out. That's just the luxury that
- 13:22Speaker 2: the Dodgers have. This guy was probably big league ready
- 13:24Speaker 2: three four years ago. He just had to buy his time.
- 13:27Speaker 2: You know, when they were able to move on from
- 13:29Speaker 2: Austin Barnes, they brought him up. And you know, I
- 13:32Speaker 2: don't think they go out and do anything from the
- 13:33Speaker 2: catching standpoint, because when Will Smith is healthy and in
- 13:37Speaker 2: the lineup, he's arguably the best catcher in the games.
- 13:40Speaker 2: But I do think their bigger concern is on the
- 13:42Speaker 2: starting pitching. You know, Blake's Now hasn't pitched this year,
- 13:45Speaker 2: glass Now has been out a ton this year. You know,
- 13:48Speaker 2: o Tawny's out, But it's amazing what was the guy's
- 13:50Speaker 2: name who throw last night they brought up for the doubleheader.
- 13:53Speaker 2: I mean he was throwing ninety eight mile hour, you know,
- 13:57Speaker 2: a wicket slider, and it's like, this is just a
- 13:59Speaker 2: guy that they have in triple A. So do they
- 14:02Speaker 2: need to go out and get another starting pitcher. No,
- 14:05Speaker 2: they have guys in house. But will they probably go
- 14:07Speaker 2: out and are probably get the best starting pitcher on
- 14:09Speaker 2: the market, probably because that's what the Dodgers do.
- 14:13Speaker 4: Yeah, they threw.
- 14:15Speaker 3: They threw seven guys yesterday and all of them, you know,
- 14:18Speaker 3: did pretty decent if you want the truth, Klient, I
- 14:20Speaker 3: think the guy's name was that just came in. But listen,
- 14:24Speaker 3: I don't think they really need to do much. I
- 14:27Speaker 3: understand because of injury purposes. Will Smith should be back
- 14:30Speaker 3: in the next month or so. They could do really
- 14:34Speaker 3: whatever they want it if you want. Truthfully, they have
- 14:37Speaker 3: the horses, they have a lot of guys, a lot
- 14:39Speaker 3: of prospects that they can use if they want a
- 14:41Speaker 3: nickel and dime here and there. So I mean, I
- 14:45Speaker 3: think the Dodgers are just sitting back and just waiting
- 14:48Speaker 3: for guys to be ready to go. So if they
- 14:51Speaker 3: don't do anything, come trade deadline, I wouldn't be surprised.
- 15:00Speaker 1: Time for the hot corner. We're talking Rentaro Sasaki. With
- 15:04Speaker 1: the two hundred and thirty fifth pick in the MLB Draft,
- 15:07Speaker 1: the Marlins selected the Japanese Japan's all time home run leader,
- 15:12Speaker 1: and he made the decision to elect to sign with
- 15:15Speaker 1: the Marlins. He had a long Instagram post about it,
- 15:17Speaker 1: explaining this decision. But KP, you know a lot about this,
- 15:22Speaker 1: so I want to go to you to understand this
- 15:24Speaker 1: decision more and figure out.
- 15:26Speaker 5: What you think about it.
- 15:28Speaker 2: For sure, I don't know a lot. I know some,
- 15:30Speaker 2: but I do know that he was kind.
- 15:31Speaker 5: Of yourself than that.
- 15:33Speaker 2: Okay, I do know he was. He's a little bit
- 15:35Speaker 2: of a trench. Oh no, can you guys hear me?
- 15:40Speaker 2: We can stay here you yes, sorry, I Mike just
- 15:43Speaker 2: went out real quick. But yeah, he You know, he
- 15:47Speaker 2: was a young kid in Japan. He could have gone
- 15:49Speaker 2: the traditional route and you know, gone and played in
- 15:51Speaker 2: the minor leagues in Japan, worked himself up to the
- 15:54Speaker 2: the the major leagues of Japan, but instead he decided
- 15:57Speaker 2: to challenge himself. He came over to the United States,
- 16:01Speaker 2: enrolled in Stanford and then even after that, he had
- 16:04Speaker 2: an opportunity to go back for more money to his
- 16:07Speaker 2: native country of Japan and play in the major leagues there,
- 16:10Speaker 2: but he's deciding to bet on himself. He came over
- 16:13Speaker 2: and learned the way that American baseball's played. He immersed
- 16:16Speaker 2: himself in the American culture. I love what he's doing.
- 16:19Speaker 2: He's challenging himself. You know, you look at some of
- 16:22Speaker 2: the money differences of what he's eventually gonna sign for
- 16:25Speaker 2: with the Miami Marlins versus what he would have got
- 16:27Speaker 2: going back to Japan. He's not making the best financial
- 16:30Speaker 2: decision for himself in the short term. Potentially in the
- 16:33Speaker 2: long term, yes, but I love the fact that he's
- 16:36Speaker 2: willing to take the hard route, you know, leaving his
- 16:40Speaker 2: country at a young age, going to Stanford and now
- 16:43Speaker 2: choosing to go into the minor leagues as opposed to
- 16:45Speaker 2: going back and playing in the major leagues of Japan,
- 16:48Speaker 2: which you get the best travel, you get all the
- 16:50Speaker 2: best stuff. He's gonna go on that grind in the
- 16:53Speaker 2: minor leagues because he wants to challenge himself. And this
- 16:55Speaker 2: is a very unique situation and it's a really cool thing.
- 16:59Speaker 2: And I'm going to be for him because I love
- 17:01Speaker 2: what he's doing, betting on himself, challenging himself and kind
- 17:05Speaker 2: of being the first one to do it. It's a
- 17:07Speaker 2: really cool thing that he's doing. Hopefully it's successful and
- 17:10Speaker 2: you'll see a lot more of these international players. Maybe
- 17:14Speaker 2: take this route as opposed to the more traditional route.

- 18:21Speaker 4: I think he did his homework too.
- 18:23Speaker 3: I mean from reading about all the things that he
- 18:26Speaker 3: went through and he talked about, you know, looking at
- 18:28Speaker 3: the facilities, and I think he's betting on himself and
- 18:32Speaker 3: I think this is fantastic. Ultimately, we won't know if
- 18:37Speaker 3: it was the right or best decision for him.
- 18:39Speaker 4: Until you know, future years ahead.
- 18:41Speaker 3: He understands he still has a ways to go, and
- 18:45Speaker 3: he said, I understand better than anyone. I still do
- 18:48Speaker 3: not have enough ability. So he's gonna work his butt
- 18:50Speaker 3: off to be the best he can be. We know
- 18:53Speaker 3: he's going to be disciplined and you know he's going
- 18:55Speaker 3: to be respectful and you know, listen, the kid can play.
- 18:58Speaker 4: It's a matter of him getting a made.
- 19:00Speaker 3: It to what they do here in the United States
- 19:02Speaker 3: and going out there and working his butt off, which
- 19:04Speaker 3: I think you will.
- 19:05Speaker 4: Man. He seems like he's very smart.
- 19:08Speaker 3: He's brought up the right way, and I'm definitely rooting
- 19:10Speaker 3: for him too as well.
- 19:12Speaker 2: Yeah, and you know, and I don't think he Probably
- 19:14Speaker 2: he might have factored this into his decision, but the
- 19:16Speaker 2: fact that there is kind of that fallback plan that
- 19:19Speaker 2: he can always go back to Japan, I think makes
- 19:21Speaker 2: it a little bit easier decision for him to go
- 19:24Speaker 2: out and explore this opportunity, because realistically, every guy that's
- 19:28Speaker 2: in Japan, maybe not every guy. Most guys in Japan
- 19:31Speaker 2: dream of playing in the Japanese League, but they also
- 19:34Speaker 2: dream of playing in the major leagues. They it's a
- 19:37Speaker 2: different route that they have to take once they sign
- 19:39Speaker 2: their deals to play in Japan. It takes him a
- 19:41Speaker 2: certain amount of time. Then there's these posting things. He
- 19:44Speaker 2: decided to skip all that and go to college be
- 19:47Speaker 2: draft eligible in the United States. It's a really cool story.
- 19:52Speaker 2: I'm rooting for him. The fact that he kind of
- 19:55Speaker 2: has that safety net potentially makes his decision easier. But
- 19:59Speaker 2: nothing that he said in his Instagram prost or anything
- 20:01Speaker 2: that I've read he had mentioned that safety net. So
- 20:05Speaker 2: he's going for this. It's a really cool story. It's
- 20:08Speaker 2: gonna be fun to watch over the next couple of
- 20:09Speaker 2: years to see if he can kind of be the
- 20:11Speaker 2: first one to kind of blaze this new new path
- 20:14Speaker 2: in the game.
- 20:16Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 20:16Speaker 1: Absolutely, Well, his Instagram post was awesome. He just sounded
- 20:20Speaker 1: kind of wise beyond his ears. All right, let's go
- 20:22Speaker 1: on to another piece of news right now from Diamondbacks
- 20:25Speaker 1: manager Tory Lavello.
- 20:28Speaker 5: Have you guys heard you know the Archie Bradley rule.
- 20:31Speaker 5: He broke it down for us.
- 20:33Speaker 1: Let's hear what he had to say about a recent
- 20:35Speaker 1: thing that came out about Prodomo.
- 20:37Speaker 5: Yeah, Jerry put it on his Instagram.
- 20:40Speaker 4: Yeah, and then Steve ask Mike, Okay, that's.
- 20:43Speaker 5: Archie Bradley roll.
- 20:44Speaker 2: You guys know what the Archie Bradley rull is.
- 20:45Speaker 8: No, if you do something on social media that I
- 20:48Speaker 8: have to talk about, I do like it.
- 20:52Speaker 9: Art Remember Archie was doing it like by the week.
- 20:55Speaker 9: I love Archie fame players ever. But oh my god,
- 20:59Speaker 9: he made my job misuble really stopped. Okay, I'm aware
- 21:05Speaker 9: of it. I got a snapshot of him holding up
- 21:07Speaker 9: his hand. Somebody asked me what was going on. I
- 21:09Speaker 9: was in between glasses of wine.
- 21:11Speaker 8: I didn't respond, So this will be my first, my
- 21:14Speaker 8: first comment on it. Yes, he didn't get a cort
- 21:17Speaker 8: Zone injection. He did have a little bit of hand
- 21:20Speaker 8: pain started maybe adder around the San Diego series, So
- 21:25Speaker 8: we just felt like at the break, when we had
- 21:27Speaker 8: the time, let's go ahead and do this.
- 21:31Speaker 5: But I think he's gonna be fine.
- 21:32Speaker 8: When I when I learned about it, and and we
- 21:36Speaker 8: were we were progressing towards him getting examined on Monday,
- 21:39Speaker 8: coming out of the LA series, I was very well
- 21:42Speaker 8: aware of the fact that there could have been an injection.
- 21:45Speaker 8: I didn't know what happened until I got that screenshot,
- 21:48Speaker 8: and then I went and read some reports and.
- 21:50Speaker 5: Saw that there was an injection. So I was told
- 21:53Speaker 5: it's not going to hinder him whatsoever.
- 21:56Speaker 1: I think most managers would be happy if social media
- 21:58Speaker 1: just didn't exist for players. But obviously this sparked a
- 22:02Speaker 1: lot of concern among Diamondbacks fans and I'm sure all
- 22:04Speaker 1: the beat but you know how that happens, you guys,
- 22:06Speaker 1: thinks spread like wildfire. It just kind of has a
- 22:10Speaker 1: trickle down effect. But Prodomo was on a TikTok live
- 22:12Speaker 1: stream with a handwrap. If you didn't hear what he said,
- 22:15Speaker 1: it was just a minor injury. He had to get
- 22:17Speaker 1: a quarterzone shot reportedly not a serious issue.
- 22:22Speaker 5: KP.
- 22:22Speaker 1: We'll start with you, what do you think about tori'stis.
- 22:25Speaker 1: I love that he was like I was in the
- 22:26Speaker 1: middle of a glass of wine.
- 22:27Speaker 5: You're not gonna interrupt that.
- 22:29Speaker 2: But what do you thinking about is I love that
- 22:32Speaker 2: there's a name for it, the Archie brather rule. And
- 22:34Speaker 2: I don't know if you guys happen to follow Archie
- 22:36Speaker 2: on social. He's just continued to do what he did
- 22:38Speaker 2: as a player. Now he's just full time on social.
- 22:41Speaker 2: I get it to me, it's really a nothing burger.
- 22:44Speaker 2: I think maybe the team, you know, maybe one to
- 22:47Speaker 2: keep it a secret under wraps. You know, a quarterzone
- 22:50Speaker 2: injection is not like a serious thing. It happens more
- 22:52Speaker 2: often than you. Probably don't hear about all the quarterzone
- 22:56Speaker 2: shots that guys get. Probably not the best look for
- 22:59Speaker 2: the play going on a TikTok live or an Instagram
- 23:02Speaker 2: live or whatever something live, you know, with a hand
- 23:04Speaker 2: wrap on and then having to kind of, you know,
- 23:07Speaker 2: circle back and talk about the quarterzone shot. It's probably
- 23:10Speaker 2: best that the team comes out and just says yes,
- 23:12Speaker 2: over the break or on an off day or in
- 23:15Speaker 2: between games, you got a quarter zone shot. He's had
- 23:17Speaker 2: some hand pain, But to me, it's not really a
- 23:19Speaker 2: big deal. It's just it's more work on Tory's part.
- 23:22Speaker 2: That you know, you have to feel like when you
- 23:24Speaker 2: don't come out with the news and a player comes
- 23:26Speaker 2: out with it and then you have to kind of
- 23:28Speaker 2: circle back, it almost feels like you're covering up something.
- 23:30Speaker 2: A quarterzone shots a nothing burger to me.
- 23:35Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, listen, I've done the live stuff, but
- 23:38Speaker 3: with my kids opening cards and stuff, I'm afraid of
- 23:41Speaker 3: all that kind of thing.
- 23:43Speaker 4: I don't know. I guess it is harmless.
- 23:45Speaker 3: But at the same time, now everybody knows about everybody's
- 23:49Speaker 3: wondering what the heck's going on, so you just got
- 23:51Speaker 3: to be careful what you do with that kind of stuff.
- 23:53Speaker 4: I guess it's not the.
- 23:54Speaker 3: Worst thing, but now you're hearing you've got a quarter
- 23:56Speaker 3: zone shot, so it's very worrisome. Now, hopefully it's okay
- 24:01Speaker 3: as they move along.
- 24:07Speaker 6: If you're watching us, you already know we're wearing Mack
- 24:09Speaker 6: Weldon right now as we talk about a great brand
- 24:12Speaker 6: that makes things so comfortable and easy to wear. But
- 24:15Speaker 6: if you're listening to the show, let me tell you
- 24:17Speaker 6: a little bit more about Mac Weldon with my friend
- 24:20Speaker 6: Aer Kratz.
- 24:21Speaker 7: Yeah, it's comfortable, it's light. It's summertime right now. For
- 24:25Speaker 7: me though, they cater to what I need tall clothes. Normally,
- 24:30Speaker 7: when I buy tall clothes it's like something that's cumbersome
- 24:34Speaker 7: and boxy. It still fits incredibly well, super light, perfect
- 24:39Speaker 7: for the summertime. They got me all covered.
- 24:42Speaker 6: Comfortable performance material can be yours. Mack Weldon is the spot.
- 24:49Speaker 6: Don't sweat the heat this summer. Feel as effortlessly cool
- 24:52Speaker 6: as you look with Mac Weldon. Go to Mackweldon dot
- 24:55Speaker 6: com and get twenty percent off your first order of
- 24:57Speaker 6: one hundred and twenty five bucks or more with promo
- 24:59Speaker 6: code foul. That's c kW e ld o n dot
- 25:02Speaker 6: com code f ou l.
- 25:04Speaker 1: All right, at the topic right now, the Phillies struggles.
- 25:06Speaker 1: They've lost ten straight games, and they've lost twenty of
- 25:12Speaker 1: the twenty five games started by the fifth starting spot
- 25:16Speaker 1: in their rotation this year. That's obviously a glaring problem. Guys,
- 25:21Speaker 1: I want to know what you think of what's happening
- 25:23Speaker 1: to the Phillies right now, particularly that fifth spot in
- 25:26Speaker 1: the rotation.
- 25:27Speaker 5: Title'll start with you.
- 25:29Speaker 3: Yeah, this is a weird one. This is it's very
- 25:33Speaker 3: it's strange. Listen, Wheeler, Sanchez and Lozardo are fantastic. Lizardo
- 25:37Speaker 3: is another EBB and flow guy. Like listen, when he's on,
- 25:40Speaker 3: he is a delight. He's hard to hit, nice left
- 25:45Speaker 3: handed piece. Sanchez. We all know what he can do.
- 25:48Speaker 3: He's gotten hit a couple of times, but he's still
- 25:51Speaker 3: been really really good this year. Wheeler, He's been doing
- 25:54Speaker 3: it since he was in diapers. I gotta be honest
- 25:57Speaker 3: with you. The guy's stoic. And when the first time
- 25:59Speaker 3: he picked up ball and his face was just like
- 26:02Speaker 3: this when he pitches and he does what he does best.
- 26:04Speaker 3: I think it started at T ball and nobody could
- 26:06Speaker 3: hit him there, even though you can't pitching t ball,
- 26:09Speaker 3: everybody knew what was gonna happen with him, you know,
- 26:12Speaker 3: taking all the jokes aside.
- 26:14Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 26:14Speaker 3: It's weird. It's weird. Are they not comfortable? Are they
- 26:17Speaker 3: not excited enough? Are they not feeling like things are
- 26:21Speaker 3: gonna go well? They have a really good team and
- 26:23Speaker 3: they came in strong here and they have to find
- 26:25Speaker 3: a way because for them to win in the playoffs, Yeah,
- 26:28Speaker 3: in a short series It's great to have these three guys,
- 26:30Speaker 3: but moving forward, they're gonna have a little bit more
- 26:33Speaker 3: difficult time.
- 26:33Speaker 4: So throw all the.
- 26:35Speaker 3: Numbers out the window, go out there and give your
- 26:37Speaker 3: best foot forward, especially when these three guys aren't pitching.
- 26:41Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, obviously, I think going in the season,
- 26:43Speaker 2: Andrew Paynter their their top pitching prospect that you know,
- 26:46Speaker 2: they just kind of been waiting for his turn to
- 26:48Speaker 2: get in the big leagues. You know, underperformed kind of
- 26:51Speaker 2: in that fifth starter spot. You know the other guy
- 26:53Speaker 2: that we didn't mention, who's you know, quote unquote their
- 26:55Speaker 2: fourth guy, Aaron Nola. You know, he's as consistent as
- 26:58Speaker 2: they come. Is he the same pitcher he was a
- 27:00Speaker 2: couple of years ago. No, but as a fourth starter
- 27:03Speaker 2: he is very serviceable.
- 27:05Speaker 4: To me.
- 27:06Speaker 2: Could the Phillies go out and prove their rot and
- 27:09Speaker 2: go out and get a you know, back end starter. Sure,
- 27:12Speaker 2: I don't think it's that big of a deal because
- 27:14Speaker 2: come playoff time, which the Phillies are going to be
- 27:17Speaker 2: a playoff team, you know, fisth starter. You know, would
- 27:19Speaker 2: you talk about rolling out? You know Zach Wheeler, which
- 27:23Speaker 2: you mentioned, I think is probably the best picture I've
- 27:25Speaker 2: ever faced in my career. You know, this guy is unhittable.
- 27:28Speaker 2: He's just been doing it for so long. The stoicness,
- 27:31Speaker 2: the confidence, the stuff is. I've never seen anything like it.
- 27:36Speaker 2: Obviously what Christopher Sanchez has turned into. And then you
- 27:39Speaker 2: got Lizardo. I mean, those three are going to carry
- 27:42Speaker 2: you in a short season. You add Nola at the
- 27:43Speaker 2: end of that rotation. I don't think it's that big
- 27:45Speaker 2: of a deal. It is a very interesting thing that
- 27:48Speaker 2: to lose twenty out of twenty five games when a
- 27:50Speaker 2: fifth starter it's his turn in the rotation, you know,
- 27:54Speaker 2: I know Don Maddenley's not necessarily you know, a new
- 27:57Speaker 2: school guy, He's an old school guy, which I appreciate.
- 28:00Speaker 2: At some point, maybe you try an open her and
- 28:01Speaker 2: you try to switch things up a little bit in
- 28:03Speaker 2: the fifth spot, because clearly whoever's taking the ball every
- 28:06Speaker 2: fifth day in that fifth spot isn't getting it done.
- 28:09Speaker 1: All right, KP, you mentioned it, but Todd, I want
- 28:11Speaker 1: to get your take on it. Does that just put
- 28:12Speaker 1: a lot of pressure on the bullpen and almost make
- 28:15Speaker 1: you think they're wasting a pretty historic season from the
- 28:18Speaker 1: top of their rotation or is that is.
- 28:20Speaker 5: That going too far.
- 28:22Speaker 4: No, I agree totally without a doubt.
- 28:24Speaker 3: And then then you think about come trade deadline here,
- 28:27Speaker 3: like what are the Phillies gonna do?
- 28:28Speaker 4: What are their needs?
- 28:30Speaker 3: And if they're not doing well with the pitching, they're
- 28:32Speaker 3: gonna have to find somebody else. So they're you know,
- 28:35Speaker 3: not to bring up everybody, but a lot of these
- 28:37Speaker 3: teams that are in it, which is a whole heck
- 28:39Speaker 3: of a lot because of now you get three three
- 28:41Speaker 3: teams in the wildcard. It could be a dangerous it
- 28:44Speaker 3: could be exciting, it could be like, wow, it's surprising.
- 28:47Speaker 3: Trade deadline. We'll see what the Phillies want to do here.
- 28:50Speaker 3: But again, the bullpen, it seems like, has to be
- 28:53Speaker 3: ready to go come jump Street when these guys aren't pitching.
- 28:56Speaker 3: So the ebbs and flow is a pitching It's nuts, man.
- 28:59Speaker 3: This is this game is it's totally transparent. Teams are
- 29:03Speaker 3: really good from top to bottom, and everybody wants to win.
- 29:06Speaker 4: So we'll see what happens.
- 29:07Speaker 1: All right, Let's talk a little bit about the Orioles.
- 29:11Speaker 1: They just locked up Kyle Bradish. They're in agreement on
- 29:14Speaker 1: a five year, ninety million dollar contract extension. Reported by
- 29:19Speaker 1: Jeff Passing, of ESPN. They locked up their best starter.
- 29:22Speaker 1: They bought out three years of free agency.
- 29:24Speaker 2: KP.
- 29:24Speaker 5: What do you think about this the Orioles did with Bradish?
- 29:28Speaker 4: Oh?
- 29:28Speaker 2: I love it. First of all, it's close to home.
- 29:31Speaker 2: It's my agent. And kind of a cool backstory with
- 29:34Speaker 2: it too is his son is now working with him.
- 29:36Speaker 2: He he you know, he passed all the things he
- 29:39Speaker 2: needed to be become an agent. So this was their
- 29:40Speaker 2: first deal that they did, father's son side by side.
- 29:44Speaker 2: So congrats to Scott and Quinn Leventhal. You know they
- 29:47Speaker 2: they were he was my agent. Now his son, you know,
- 29:49Speaker 2: works for him too, So it's a pretty cool backstory.
- 29:52Speaker 2: Love what the Orioles are doing. You know, they got
- 29:54Speaker 2: Shane Bass signed up to you know, now they have
- 29:57Speaker 2: Kyle Bradish, you know, for the foreseeable future. To me,
- 30:01Speaker 2: they might be the most interesting team at the deadline
- 30:04Speaker 2: because the Orioles have underperformed the last year and a half.
- 30:09Speaker 2: That being said, they are only eight games behind the
- 30:11Speaker 2: Rays in the division. They're two games back of Boston
- 30:14Speaker 2: and the wild card. But you talk about a team
- 30:16Speaker 2: that has so much talent and so much young talent,
- 30:19Speaker 2: and potentially they had opportunities over the last couple of
- 30:23Speaker 2: years to go out and make some big splashes. They
- 30:25Speaker 2: probably could have got a Terrek Scoobel into their rotation
- 30:28Speaker 2: for a Jackson Holiday. They've had a lot of big
- 30:31Speaker 2: time prospects that they've decided to hold on to. Some
- 30:34Speaker 2: of those guys have worked out, some of those guys
- 30:37Speaker 2: have not worked out. They still have an abundance of prospects.
- 30:40Speaker 2: Do they decide to go out and move some of
- 30:42Speaker 2: these guys? And when you talk to GMS, you know
- 30:44Speaker 2: this is the hard thing because you covet these guys
- 30:47Speaker 2: and you deal with a lot of the things of
- 30:50Speaker 2: them not performing right away, and then when they finally
- 30:52Speaker 2: get a chance to get to the big leagues, get
- 30:55Speaker 2: established and they start having success, obviously they have trade value.
- 30:59Speaker 2: And it's a really hard position for the Orioles to
- 31:01Speaker 2: be in because they have some of those guys that
- 31:03Speaker 2: they've waited their time to be successful at the big
- 31:06Speaker 2: league level. Do they believe they have a team to
- 31:08Speaker 2: go on and postseason and do something special. I don't know,
- 31:14Speaker 2: but they're a very interesting team. They are a very
- 31:16Speaker 2: interesting team depending on what they do over the next
- 31:19Speaker 2: week and a half. I think is gonna be very
- 31:21Speaker 2: telling if they go out and try to add some guys,
- 31:24Speaker 2: or they go out and try to sell off some
- 31:26Speaker 2: of these pieces and really start to build for the future.
- 31:29Speaker 2: Started with, you know, a Kyle bradish and a Shane
- 31:31Speaker 2: Base and their rotation.
- 31:34Speaker 3: Listen and you talk about that that. I agree with
- 31:36Speaker 3: you totally. I love everything about it. It's a great,
- 31:39Speaker 3: great idea to lock him up, Bradish up. But I've
- 31:43Speaker 3: said this a couple of years ago. These young guys, man,
- 31:45Speaker 3: when are they finally gonna click? I mean Colton Cow's Er, Holiday,
- 31:50Speaker 3: Jeremiah Jackson, Kobe Mayo, I mean Gonner Henderson. Like listen,
- 31:55Speaker 3: I was a big component. You needed to trade some
- 31:58Speaker 3: of these guys to get some veterans in there. I
- 32:00Speaker 3: know they got Pete Alonzo. I know they got a
- 32:02Speaker 3: couple guys that are there now, but they had an
- 32:06Speaker 3: opportunity to get some guys. These prospects you don't know
- 32:10Speaker 3: what you're going to get out of Mostly all these prospects.
- 32:13Speaker 4: I'm a big component. You don't see the veteran guy anymore.
- 32:16Speaker 4: It's very tough. It's just not there.
- 32:19Speaker 3: And they wasted that opportunity to bring in somebody that
- 32:23Speaker 3: has done it before. The names were historical, they had
- 32:27Speaker 3: the best prospects in baseball, and they didn't really do
- 32:30Speaker 3: anything with it. So again, I'm not feeling bad for
- 32:33Speaker 3: him on this component. I do think these kids can
- 32:36Speaker 3: come in and do well, but the time is ticking
- 32:39Speaker 3: for these guys to do well. Baseball is a what
- 32:43Speaker 3: have you done for me lately kind of business, and
- 32:46Speaker 3: right now it's just it's just not there.
- 32:48Speaker 1: Okay, So let's talk about one guy in particular, and
- 32:51Speaker 1: that would be Gunner Henderson. I know that's kind of
- 32:53Speaker 1: like a big mystery in baseball right now. It's a
- 32:55Speaker 1: lot of the questions, you know, surrounding him. I've read
- 32:59Speaker 1: a lot about how he's aggressively chasing. I've just read
- 33:03Speaker 1: a lot about his regression this year. Because this was
- 33:07Speaker 1: once a guy that you watched a pitt and you
- 33:09Speaker 1: were like, damn, he's going to be one of the
- 33:10Speaker 1: best hitters, right But this season it's just been dramatically different.
- 33:16Speaker 2: KP.
- 33:17Speaker 5: What do you make of that?
- 33:18Speaker 2: I don't know what to make of it, because you
- 33:20Speaker 2: talk about Gunner Henderson and he is, you know, on paper,
- 33:25Speaker 2: one of the best players in the game. This is
- 33:26Speaker 2: a guy you thought, year after year after year would
- 33:29Speaker 2: be in the conversation to win an MVP, that's how
- 33:32Speaker 2: talent he is. But I think you know when you
- 33:34Speaker 2: take a different view at it. I think as someone
- 33:37Speaker 2: who played in the major leagues for a long time,
- 33:39Speaker 2: same with Todd, like, the game is really hard, even
- 33:41Speaker 2: for the best players. So the fact that a guy
- 33:44Speaker 2: as talented as Gunner Henderson is struggling this year, I
- 33:48Speaker 2: don't have the answers for it. This guy's a way
- 33:50Speaker 2: better player than I ever dreamed of being. It's it's incredible,
- 33:53Speaker 2: but I think it just speaks to how difficult it
- 33:56Speaker 2: is at the major league level to be successful every
- 33:59Speaker 2: single year. This guy is one of the most talented
- 34:01Speaker 2: baseball players in the game, hitting two twenty with a
- 34:04Speaker 2: six eighty two ops like, it doesn't make any sense
- 34:07Speaker 2: to me. It just speaks to how difficult this game
- 34:10Speaker 2: is and really how mental this game is. And it's
- 34:14Speaker 2: hard for me to speculate because I don't know Gunner.
- 34:15Speaker 2: I'm not around him, I'm not in the clubhouse. But
- 34:18Speaker 2: when things aren't going well, obviously the physical tools help,
- 34:21Speaker 2: but mentally it's really hard when things aren't going well,
- 34:24Speaker 2: when you know you have that talent, and it's just
- 34:26Speaker 2: kind of been this snowball effect. You've just been waiting
- 34:28Speaker 2: for him to get going and he just hasn't been
- 34:30Speaker 2: able to get it going.
- 34:33Speaker 3: Yeah, and oh, go ahead, I'll go. But like it's
- 34:36Speaker 3: the pitching. I gotta be honest. The pitching has gotten.
- 34:39Speaker 4: So much better.
- 34:40Speaker 3: And that's one of the reasons I can't speak for
- 34:42Speaker 3: ukp of why I'm not playing in the game in
- 34:45Speaker 3: baseball anymore. It's just been so well, I'm not making
- 34:48Speaker 3: an excuse, but listen, a lot of these guys, I mean,
- 34:50Speaker 3: you look at Fernando Tattoosts junior guy couldn't hit a
- 34:53Speaker 3: home run for you know, the time beings got six
- 34:55Speaker 3: home runs. So it's like there's some weird things going
- 34:58Speaker 3: on in baseball with you know some.
- 35:01Speaker 4: I think, honestly, that might be the eighteen hundred either way,
- 35:06Speaker 4: I think.
- 35:07Speaker 3: I think honestly, I think he's gonna be fine, but
- 35:11Speaker 3: he has to understand staying in his own maybe doing
- 35:13Speaker 3: a little more homework. It's his all speculation as a hitter.
- 35:16Speaker 3: I remember when I struggled, less is more. I would
- 35:19Speaker 3: try and do not as much, just get in the cage.
- 35:21Speaker 3: And work on little things and not have eight hundred
- 35:24Speaker 3: people tell me what to do. So I think he's
- 35:27Speaker 3: gonna be fine. It just might be one of those
- 35:29Speaker 3: years that, you know, we look back on and hopefully say, oh,
- 35:32Speaker 3: remember that year he struggled.
- 35:33Speaker 4: He's good now.
- 35:33Speaker 1: Yeah, he's too good of a face for the league too.
- 35:36Speaker 5: I think he's a really nice guy. He's a high
- 35:39Speaker 5: character guy.
- 35:39Speaker 1: I've covered him a lot because when I was with
- 35:41Speaker 1: the Rays, obviously they played the Orioles nine hundred times
- 35:44Speaker 1: a year, but he even talked to the Baltimore Sun
- 35:47Speaker 1: about the stretch, saying it was probably one of the
- 35:49Speaker 1: most frustrating things he's ever been through.
- 35:52Speaker 5: Because if you know Gunner, you know.
- 35:53Speaker 1: That he's got that work ethic behind the scenes, but
- 35:56Speaker 1: it's just not translating to the games right now. And
- 35:59Speaker 1: then you have to want you hit on this. It's
- 36:01Speaker 1: like the mental toll of it, right You step up
- 36:03Speaker 1: to the plate every time and you're probably putting so
- 36:06Speaker 1: much pressure on yourself and just trying to figure it out.
- 36:09Speaker 1: Do you just drive yourself crazy at some point sometimes
- 36:11Speaker 1: when you're going through this.
- 36:13Speaker 2: This is an interesting take, And obviously you know my
- 36:15Speaker 2: story is a little bit different than Gunners. But I mean,
- 36:19Speaker 2: he's so talented that it's hard when you struggle at
- 36:22Speaker 2: the big leagues for the first time. And there used
- 36:23Speaker 2: to be this idea that you would spend a little
- 36:25Speaker 2: bit more time in the minor leagues and hopefully you
- 36:27Speaker 2: struggle there so you learn mentally how to deal with failure.
- 36:31Speaker 2: He's now really dealing with failure for the first time
- 36:34Speaker 2: at the highest level of professional baseball, you know, with
- 36:37Speaker 2: the whole world putting this expectation on him, him putting
- 36:40Speaker 2: this expectation on him to be an MVP caliber player
- 36:43Speaker 2: every year. It's a really difficult thing. What is he
- 36:45Speaker 2: He's twenty three years old. It's it's crazy how talented
- 36:49Speaker 2: and how quickly these guys get to the big leagues
- 36:51Speaker 2: because they're so good. But that's the hard thing is
- 36:54Speaker 2: if you have never really struggled at any point in
- 36:56Speaker 2: your career, and I can imagine Gunner with how good
- 36:59Speaker 2: he is, never in little league, never in high school,
- 37:02Speaker 2: never in the minor leagues, probably ever struggled, So going
- 37:04Speaker 2: through it for the first time at the major leagues
- 37:06Speaker 2: is a very difficult thing to do, you know. And
- 37:09Speaker 2: Todd mentioned there was a time, maybe a year or
- 37:12Speaker 2: two years ago, that they had a lot of this
- 37:13Speaker 2: young talent. But having a lot of young talent at
- 37:16Speaker 2: the big league level at the same time, it can work.
- 37:20Speaker 2: But you gotta have some veterans in there. You gotta
- 37:22Speaker 2: have some guys that have some experience, and I think
- 37:24Speaker 2: they potentially missed the ball of bringing in the right
- 37:27Speaker 2: guy to maybe play second base or third base next
- 37:30Speaker 2: to Gunner to keep him kind of level throughout his
- 37:32Speaker 2: playing career.
- 37:35Speaker 6: Todd father, are you hitting some games this summer?
- 37:37Speaker 4: What's the deal? Oh, of course, it's real simple, Scotty Brown.

- 37:58Speaker 4: It's the best opportunity.

- 38:35Speaker 1: Okay, good stuff on the Orioles and Gunner Henderson. Let's
- 38:39Speaker 1: talk a little bit about the Cubs. There's a report
- 38:40Speaker 1: they're acquiring Aaron Sevali from the A's guys.
- 38:44Speaker 5: We know that it's from Jesse Rodgers of ESPN. We
- 38:47Speaker 5: know that the Cubs are second, you know, in the
- 38:50Speaker 5: NL Central, and.
- 38:53Speaker 1: We also know that that they are aggressively operating as
- 38:58Speaker 1: buyers ahead of the trade line and executing that trade
- 39:03Speaker 1: while actively pursuing possibly another trade. There have been reports
- 39:07Speaker 1: about Peralta from the Brewers, but Todd, since KP just finished,
- 39:11Speaker 1: i'll guess you your take on what the Cubs are doing.
- 39:14Speaker 5: And this Savali.
- 39:15Speaker 3: Report, Yeah, I mean from the looks of if they're
- 39:18Speaker 3: acquiring right now, they're they're looking to be buyers.
- 39:21Speaker 4: I mean, at the end of the day, at least.
- 39:23Speaker 3: From my viewpoint, if you're trading for a guy right now,
- 39:27Speaker 3: what is that showing you that that they want to
- 39:30Speaker 3: win for one and they're they're looking to add, which
- 39:33Speaker 3: I think is great, and they're starting earlier than later.
- 39:36Speaker 3: I mean, I like Aaron Savali, another nice little piece
- 39:39Speaker 3: to add to the pitching.
- 39:42Speaker 4: You know, at the end of the day, I like
- 39:44Speaker 4: where the Cubs are at.
- 39:45Speaker 3: They're playing well, you know, I think they're going to
- 39:49Speaker 3: be some team to mess with as they move forward
- 39:51Speaker 3: here into the playoffs. Yeah, I think they're gonna keep
- 39:56Speaker 3: getting after it, and then there might be some more
- 39:59Speaker 3: suitors for as we talked about earlier, say a Suzuki.
- 40:02Speaker 3: I mean, listen, well, it be hard to trade him, yes,
- 40:05Speaker 3: but if they're moving pieces around now and picking up
- 40:08Speaker 3: guys here and there, there might be an opportunity. But
- 40:11Speaker 3: knowing that, I still think he's got a lot of
- 40:13Speaker 3: great baseball to play for the Cubs if they don't.
- 40:27Speaker 5: All right, KP.
- 40:27Speaker 1: We got to ask you it was your first time
- 40:29Speaker 1: visiting the Hall of Fame Museum, Your visit to Cooperstown,
- 40:32Speaker 1: how was it?
- 40:34Speaker 2: It was amazing. I mean it started off, you know,
- 40:36Speaker 2: I got to go to the Cooperstown the twelve U
- 40:40Speaker 2: tournament there, and honestly, I've been able to do a
- 40:43Speaker 2: lot of really cool things in my career, a lot
- 40:46Speaker 2: of really cool things post career, but being part of
- 40:49Speaker 2: that opening day ceremony with ninety four teams, there was
- 40:53Speaker 2: absolutely incredible talk about the purest form of baseball, A
- 40:57Speaker 2: bunch of twelve year olds getting ready to you know,
- 41:00Speaker 2: play a six day tournament, staying on campus, being around
- 41:05Speaker 2: all these other kids, all you can eat, all you
- 41:07Speaker 2: could drink. The cool part You get a chance to
- 41:09Speaker 2: talk to all the coaches, remind them their twelve year
- 41:12Speaker 2: old kids make this the best experience as possible. And
- 41:14Speaker 2: then the next morning I had to get up and
- 41:17Speaker 2: get a ride to the actual Baseball Hall of Fame,
- 41:20Speaker 2: first time I was ever in there. It's an incredible experience.
- 41:23Speaker 2: I mean the fact that there's just so much history
- 41:27Speaker 2: in there, and when you played the game, you have
- 41:29Speaker 2: an appreciation I think beyond even the casual fan. The
- 41:34Speaker 2: fact that I got the whole Lou Garrig bat I
- 41:37Speaker 2: got to see Hank Aaron Jersey. You know, there's so
- 41:41Speaker 2: many incredible things that I actually got to hold in
- 41:44Speaker 2: my hand, so many things I got to see. Didn't
- 41:47Speaker 2: have enough time there because you could literally go room
- 41:49Speaker 2: to room reading all the stuff. It's an incredible, incredible experience,
- 41:54Speaker 2: something I'm fortunate I got a chance to do. I'm
- 41:57Speaker 2: thirty seven years old, have never been to the Hall
- 41:59Speaker 2: of Fame. The only thing that would have made it
- 42:01Speaker 2: better is if I would have been able to bring
- 42:03Speaker 2: my dad with me or you know, some of my
- 42:05Speaker 2: older kids with me to it. And definitely a place
- 42:08Speaker 2: I plan on going back, especially when my son has
- 42:11Speaker 2: maybe a greater appreciation of the history of the game.
- 42:15Speaker 3: That's what I was gonna ask. So my son's twelve,
- 42:17Speaker 3: we're going August sixteenth, I'm gonna I'm doing the same
- 42:20Speaker 3: exact thing as you're.
- 42:21Speaker 4: Well, you're at the All Star Village, right.
- 42:24Speaker 2: Yeah, All Star Village. That's the one a little bit
- 42:26Speaker 2: further right. Is that the one that's closer?
- 42:29Speaker 3: No, I actually from me, I'm not very sure which ones,
- 42:34Speaker 3: but I'm looking at your picture here on.
- 42:36Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah a Star, Yeah, I was privilege. Is your
- 42:40Speaker 2: son playing in it.
- 42:41Speaker 4: Yeah, we'll be playing in Augusta.
- 42:46Speaker 2: It's an incredible experience. The the the opening day ceremony.
- 42:52Speaker 2: You know, they have this giant hill on the outfield
- 42:55Speaker 2: that all the parents come kind of like theme dressed
- 42:58Speaker 2: up shooting, you know, and there's kind of like the
- 43:01Speaker 2: Spirit Award that I was kind of responsible of awarding
- 43:05Speaker 2: a team, but all ninety four teams get a chance
- 43:07Speaker 2: to kind of go on the field in uniform with
- 43:10Speaker 2: their flags, some have mascots. It's just like the purest
- 43:13Speaker 2: form of baseball. It takes you back to a time
- 43:15Speaker 2: when you play the game because it's so much fun.
- 43:18Speaker 2: Followed that, then they do like a skills competition infield
- 43:21Speaker 2: turning double plays. It was like eight teams they do
- 43:24Speaker 2: fastest around the diamond base running, and then they do
- 43:28Speaker 2: a home run derby and these twelve year olds with
- 43:31Speaker 2: these bats were hitting absolute bombs and it was so
- 43:34Speaker 2: much fun to watch, you know it. Honestly, it was
- 43:38Speaker 2: one of my most favorite things I've ever done. I
- 43:40Speaker 2: hope to get a chance to go back kind of
- 43:42Speaker 2: as that ambassador, but maybe in six or seven years
- 43:45Speaker 2: when my son is old enough. What a dream that
- 43:48Speaker 2: would be.
- 43:52Speaker 5: Making memories with your son in baseball. There's nothing like it.
- 43:56Speaker 5: All Right, before we go, let's talk about the mi
- 43:57Speaker 5: is real quick.
- 43:58Speaker 1: He's taking the mountain night for the Brewer to start
- 44:00Speaker 1: a highly anticipated three game series against the Mats. We
- 44:04Speaker 1: know he missed his last start for the All Star Game.
- 44:06Speaker 1: He didn't pitch his weekend. Do you guys think that
- 44:09Speaker 1: resting him and missing that last start was probably a
- 44:12Speaker 1: good move by the Brewers? And what do you expect
- 44:14Speaker 1: from him in the second half?
- 44:17Speaker 2: Yea, I mean they got a little bit, They got
- 44:20Speaker 2: a little bit of a sizeable cushion in their division. Obviously,
- 44:24Speaker 2: a young pitcher, kind of a unicorn in his own too,
- 44:28Speaker 2: with the velocity that he's pitching at. He's a guy
- 44:32Speaker 2: that you know, if he continues at this pace and
- 44:36Speaker 2: he continues to make his starts, he's probably gonna win
- 44:39Speaker 2: the nlsy young. But what the Brewers decide to do
- 44:43Speaker 2: for his long term health for the betterment of this
- 44:45Speaker 2: team is going to be a very interesting thing to
- 44:48Speaker 2: watch down the stretch. You know, I talked about a
- 44:50Speaker 2: lot of the interesting pitchers pitching today, and I took
- 44:53Speaker 2: a lot of those strikeout props the lowest I could
- 44:56Speaker 2: get the mizz with that like eight strikeout, and I
- 44:58Speaker 2: wanted to take it, but I I just I'm unsure
- 45:01Speaker 2: how Milwaukee is going to use him down the stretch,
- 45:04Speaker 2: considering they do have that sizeable lead. But anytime they
- 45:07Speaker 2: can afford to maybe skip his start or push him
- 45:11Speaker 2: back a couple of days, I think it's going to
- 45:13Speaker 2: do benefits not only for him, but for Milwaukee down the.
- 45:16Speaker 3: Stretch easily, easily. Seems like everybody needs a quick break
- 45:21Speaker 3: here and there. I think he's rearing ready to go
- 45:25Speaker 3: for this cy young and he's going to be the
- 45:27Speaker 3: dude that you don't want to see come every fifth day.
- 45:30Speaker 3: So fantastic to watch him and his cronies get after
- 45:33Speaker 3: it there in Milwaukee.
- 45:34Speaker 4: We'll see how he does, but I got a good
- 45:36Speaker 4: feeling about it. All right.
- 45:38Speaker 5: Let's talk about Corby and Carrol.
- 45:39Speaker 1: Yesterday he was taken out of the game and he's
- 45:43Speaker 1: day to day after hyper extending his right elbow during
- 45:46Speaker 1: a swing on Sunday in the bottom of the seventh inning.
- 45:51Speaker 1: They say that it's a minor injury. It's not going
- 45:54Speaker 1: to require imaging. At least that was the latest that
- 45:57Speaker 1: I read.
- 45:58Speaker 5: Kip. Have you ever had a hype were extended right elbow.
- 46:02Speaker 2: Unknowingly. I'm sure I have. I'm sure I've done it
- 46:05Speaker 2: at some point. I mean, I think the good thing
- 46:09Speaker 2: for him is it's it's not his throwing arm, so
- 46:12Speaker 2: it's a little bit less concerned. But the way that
- 46:14Speaker 2: Corbyn Carrol does swing, the fact that it's his right elbow,
- 46:17Speaker 2: it is his you know, his bottom hand, and he
- 46:21Speaker 2: does tend to release a ton. He's a one handed,
- 46:24Speaker 2: finished guy. Probably a little bit concerned, but the fact
- 46:27Speaker 2: that they don't feel the need to go get it
- 46:29Speaker 2: image images of it probably just a day to day
- 46:34Speaker 2: thing a couple of days.
- 46:37Speaker 3: I've had it done three times. I've had three different
- 46:39Speaker 3: surgeries sculped on my elbows. You can see I can't
- 46:42Speaker 3: even straighten my arm from over swinging, and it's weird.
- 46:47Speaker 3: It's my right hand too, like this one. I've had
- 46:51Speaker 3: it sculpt three times. There's nothing in between my elbow
- 46:53Speaker 3: and my try sept area, so it's a pain in
- 46:56Speaker 3: the butt.
- 46:57Speaker 4: It's how you can handle it. It's one of those things.
- 47:00Speaker 3: I've had to put stuff there so I don't hyper
- 47:03Speaker 3: extend it over a period of time, but you work
- 47:06Speaker 3: through it, hopefully, there's no other damage. Maybe, like I said,
- 47:08Speaker 3: at the end of the year, get it kind of
- 47:10Speaker 3: cleaned out so you can get all those loose impediments
- 47:12Speaker 3: out of there.
- 47:12Speaker 4: But it's a pain in the butt. It's just annoying,
- 47:16Speaker 4: that's all.
- 47:17Speaker 5: Yeah, it's annoying.
- 47:18Speaker 1: It kind of seemed like what Corbyn was saying yesterday
- 47:21Speaker 1: down playing it a little bit. You know, he talked
- 47:23Speaker 1: about how he hyper extended the exact same elbow earlier
- 47:27Speaker 1: in the season.
- 47:28Speaker 5: At KP, you just said it, you were like, I
- 47:29Speaker 5: probably have. I don't know, So it's.
- 47:31Speaker 1: Probably just an annoying thing at this point. But as
- 47:34Speaker 1: they said, it should be minor. As you also mentioned KP,
- 47:37Speaker 1: it's on his non throwing arm.
- 47:39Speaker 5: So that should be good news for them. Thank you
- 47:41Speaker 5: everyone for watching.
- 47:42Speaker 1: Don't forget to stay on for Dodgers Territory at three
- 47:45Speaker 1: pm today on the Dodgers YouTube channel.
- 47:47Speaker 5: We'll see you later.
