- 0:00Welcome back to Fostering Faith. And so we are
- 0:03here and we are back for another episode. And
- 0:06so if you do not know us, we are Fostering Faith.
- 0:09My name is Tracy Foster. I'll be your host today.
- 0:11And we're going to do something a little different
- 0:13today. You know how sometimes you can just be
- 0:16listening to something and you just want to laugh
- 0:17and think and grow a little closer to Jesus.
- 0:20Well, we have that for you today. And so we're
- 0:22going to cover every topic. Think of this episode
- 0:25as like a casserole, kind of like whenever you
- 0:28go for Christmas. morning breakfast and it's
- 0:31like you have your pancakes and your sausage
- 0:34and your eggs all like kind of in one casserole
- 0:36uh it's a little bit of everything and so we're
- 0:39gonna have a very good bite of soul searching
- 0:42food so grab your coffee settle in and let's
- 0:45get started and so some topics that we have been
- 0:47looking at um if you just scroll through any
- 0:49social media or podcast and so you look on apple
- 0:53or spotify and you see true crime you see comedy
- 0:56you see Faith and wellness and navigating the
- 1:02news, family, friends, fiction. You have faith
- 1:05forward. And so we have so many different topics.
- 1:08And so what about having a podcast that kind
- 1:11of covers it all? And so as we had the opportunity
- 1:14to do a women's conference two weeks ago, it
- 1:19was a war conference. And so we were able to
- 1:22gather around women and encourage them and inspire
- 1:25them. And I loved every minute of it. I loved
- 1:29it because we got to do breakout sessions. I
- 1:32got to lead one on leadership and how to lead
- 1:36with grace and just walk the women through how
- 1:39I have ran my business and have been. successful
- 1:44in that because we let Christ lead everything
- 1:48as far as schedules and money and just whatever
- 1:51he wants to do with our time and our attention.
- 1:54Our focus is on him and we live by godly principles.
- 1:58We don't go by what earthly standards of success
- 2:02are and we lead by grace. We lead people in the
- 2:07way that he has led us and so we were able to
- 2:10do that breakout session. And then we were able
- 2:13to do the devotion in the morning. And I called
- 2:17it Wake Up Esther. And so our script was Esther
- 2:21414. And so you were made for just a time as
- 2:25this. And so we got to encourage the ladies and
- 2:27women that they were made for just a time as
- 2:30this. And so if you know the story of Queen Esther,
- 2:34she was made the queen to save the Jews. And
- 2:38so as we walked through the story, we were able
- 2:40to encourage and motivate. that no matter where
- 2:43and what position that you are in, you are able
- 2:46and well -abled to do things that are really
- 2:50hard with Christ by your side. And so Esther
- 2:52prayed and fast, and she walked into the king's
- 2:54corridor, and she didn't know whether she was
- 2:57going to get the golden scepter passed to her
- 2:59or what, but she did it by faith. She did it
- 3:02knowing that God has called her for more, and
- 3:05she was able to save the Jewish nation. So we
- 3:09are always... in prayer with our heavenly father
- 3:12because his ways are greater than our ways and
- 3:14whenever it does not make no sense uh we know
- 3:17that his ways are greater and he's equipped us
- 3:19with everything that we need if we allow him
- 3:22to lead um then we really can't fail and so as
- 3:27we were looking into doing uh podcast topics
- 3:29for this week uh we were just like you know what
- 3:32are people searching for what are people like
- 3:34really interested and how can we tie that into
- 3:36a biblical principle and so you have true crime
- 3:38and so We have true crime in scripture. And so
- 3:43let's address the elephant in the room. True
- 3:45crime. It's everywhere. I mean, you can't scroll
- 3:48through podcasts without tripping over a story
- 3:50of disappearance and murder and like what happened
- 3:55to them. But if you've ever thought about one
- 3:58of the greatest true crime stories ever, seriously,
- 4:00it was about the betrayal of a conspiracy. Prison
- 4:04escapes, God redeeming it all. Joseph's brother
- 4:07threw him in a pit, sold him for slavery, and
- 4:10they thought they got away with it. But plot
- 4:11twist, God used that to save a whole nation.
- 4:15That's divine justice at its finest. And so you
- 4:18can just see the headlines now, CSI, Canaan.
- 4:23And so we look at the scripture and we have such
- 4:26true crimes and we have so many different things
- 4:29that we can look at in scripture that really
- 4:31are. juicy. I mean, even just look at the story
- 4:34of David. Look at the story of Moses. I mean,
- 4:36you have murder, you have deceit, you have kings,
- 4:39you know, hiring people to kill people off. I
- 4:42mean, so you really have just a really true crime
- 4:46story. You have brothers killing their brother
- 4:48because they raped their sister. I mean, you
- 4:51walk through 1 Samuel, 2 Samuel. I mean, you
- 4:53walk through the Old Testament. And I mean, you
- 4:56really do have true crime situations. And you
- 5:00just like, how can people be bored reading scripture?
- 5:05There's no way. I just can't imagine like opening
- 5:08it up and just being bored out of your mind.
- 5:11And then you have the comedy. We all need to
- 5:15laugh. Laughter is literally almost the best
- 5:18medicine. I mean, just a good laugh. I mean,
- 5:21even just to assign depressed patients, like
- 5:24they have to watch funny movies. They have to
- 5:27laugh every hour. And that really does break
- 5:29the cycle in your brain. And so you produce endorphins.
- 5:32You produce, you know, hormones that make you
- 5:35naturally happy. And so speaking of drama, which
- 5:39lightens things up. So you have the awkward prayer
- 5:42moments, like whenever you're in a small group
- 5:44and someone says, let's go around and pray out
- 5:46loud. Suddenly your brain is like loading screen
- 5:49and it's like doing that buffering, buffering,
- 5:52like buffering, like what? So how about when
- 5:56someone's prayer is like really long and you
- 5:59start mentally assigning like your spiritual
- 6:01Fitbit that's like 10 ,000 words and counting.
- 6:03But hey, God hears it all. Even if it's the ums,
- 6:07the awkwards, the pauses. And it's done with
- 6:10grace. And so as you walk into, you know. religion
- 6:15and faith. It doesn't have to be serious. God
- 6:18is funny. And he has a really big sense of humor.
- 6:21Try praying for something and you getting it
- 6:24and realizing how bad of an idea it was. And
- 6:27he's saying, he asked for it. Like, there you
- 6:30go. And so he really does have a sense of humor
- 6:33and he is kind and he is funny. And just the
- 6:36times throughout the day that you could just
- 6:37sit back and laugh and just be like, oh my gosh,
- 6:40like. I asked for this. This is what I got. And
- 6:43I bet he's just up there just kind of laughing.
- 6:46And so it really is just a walk with him in our
- 6:50everyday lives and we don't have to take it so
- 6:53seriously and we can just laugh and carry on.
- 6:56So what about the wealth or the fitness and faith
- 7:01aspect of all the podcasts? And so let's talk
- 7:04about health. And no, I'm not here to push anyone
- 7:06to drink. a kale smoothie, because I don't do
- 7:10that myself, or a recipe. It's all about balance.
- 7:13Our bodies are temples. And let's be honest,
- 7:15we've done a ton of podcasts before on faith
- 7:18and wellness. And those are my two most favorite
- 7:22topics is health and wellness. And it is about
- 7:27faith in Jesus. And so it's a different aspect.
- 7:29And you can go back and listen to the other podcasts
- 7:31that we've done. And so in my journey, whenever
- 7:34I delivered Gia, I was 300 pounds. And I was
- 7:37on 100 units of insulin a day. I had gestational
- 7:39diabetes with her. And I made it a goal to be
- 7:44back to my pre -pregnancy weight before her first
- 7:49birthday. And so it was with hard work and discipline
- 7:52and the want to be the mom that could chase her
- 7:56around the room and to be the mom that could...
- 7:59Just have so much energy and just be up and just
- 8:02do all the things that god has called me to do
- 8:04with her I really do feel like health and wellness
- 8:08are so important with your faith because he cannot
- 8:10take you in ministry if you're not healthy. And
- 8:13so sometimes we just need to let go and let God
- 8:17in that sense. God created rest too. And so it's
- 8:20about the temple and what you're putting into
- 8:22it. And so in our practice, we really focus on
- 8:24the food that God made. We focus on protein.
- 8:27We focus on, you know, low carb vegetables, cruciferous
- 8:30vegetables, berries, you know, low glycemic index
- 8:32foods, you know, water, tea, and coffee. We don't
- 8:35trade, you know, cocaine for heroin. We're not
- 8:37doing and fake sugar for real sugar. We're not
- 8:39doing any of that. You know, we're just eating
- 8:40simple one word ingredients and then we're leaving
- 8:43it at that. And we're working out, we're moving,
- 8:47we're strength training, we're gaining muscle,
- 8:49we're getting our, you know, gram of protein
- 8:51per ideal body weight. We're drinking our gallon
- 8:53of water. We're, you know, having electrolytes.
- 8:56We're doing all the hard things. And so it is
- 8:59about hydration and movement. you know, being
- 9:03careful of what you're putting in your gates.
- 9:05And so that, you know, the worship music that
- 9:07you're listening to, you know, the, whatever
- 9:09you're running to, whenever you're listening,
- 9:11whenever you're on a treadmill, those are things
- 9:13that are going into your gates. And please know,
- 9:15you know, trying to worship whenever you're running
- 9:17on a treadmill is harder than it is because I've
- 9:19almost fell off several times. And it is, um,
- 9:23you know, it's, it's pretty funny, but, uh, it's
- 9:27also very scary whenever you're trying to fall
- 9:28off a treadmill. Uh, and so we really do have,
- 9:31you know, faith and wellness, you know, whenever
- 9:34we're talking about Christ, he is, um, he made
- 9:38you. And so I just take it as such a, a journey
- 9:41to take care of what he's given us. And it really
- 9:45is just a, a desire of mine to inspire and encourage
- 9:50people that if I can do it, you guys can do it
- 9:53and you can see all my other videos. I've lost
- 9:56the weight. I've lost more than that. I've lost
- 9:57160 pounds. I've kept it off. And we work out
- 10:01every day except for on Sundays. We have a day
- 10:03of rest and we hydrate. We eat clean food and
- 10:08we thrive. It's not about struggling and just
- 10:11being all the things because really what you're
- 10:13linked to, I mean, we know that your gut health
- 10:15is so important and you are what you eat. So
- 10:17if you eat junk, you're going to feel like junk.
- 10:20And so it really is. I just try to take care
- 10:22and be a great steward of what he's. given us
- 10:25and navigating the news in Christianity. What
- 10:28are we doing? Um, and so watching the news sometimes
- 10:32can feel like taking a drink from a fire hose,
- 10:35overwhelming and not refreshing, but as Christians,
- 10:37we don't have to live in fear. Psalm 46 one says
- 10:41that God is our refuge and our strength and ever
- 10:43present help in our trouble. So instead of doom
- 10:47and gloom and like just scrolling just trying
- 10:51to think to like the latest news and like all
- 10:53the things every news line just pause and pray
- 10:56and trust me it'll change how you see the world
- 11:00all the headlines who's in charge uh who's ever
- 11:03sitting in the president's seat who's in charge
- 11:05and so these headlines are maybe an opportunity
- 11:07to expand our prayer life because those things
- 11:10that we necessarily wouldn't have prayed for
- 11:13we now have access to for him to take over because
- 11:16he has the final say, because he has what our
- 11:20best interests are in heart. And we have the
- 11:23opportunity to intercede for those people that
- 11:26don't even know us. And so we see a tornado,
- 11:28we see a fire, we see famine, we see all this
- 11:31negative stuff and like, how could God let this
- 11:33happen? But in the same instance, like where
- 11:35we can take the opportunity to grow in our spiritual
- 11:39life and to pray and to really have the heart
- 11:44and the empathy and the sympathy and the apathy
- 11:47for those people that are going through these
- 11:50tough times. And it is about, um, my patients
- 11:54bring me the news every day. I don't have to
- 11:57turn on the weather. I don't have to turn on
- 11:59the news. I don't have to turn on anything because
- 12:01they inform me of everything that is going on.
- 12:04And it is an opportunity to, to, for them to
- 12:07remember like, that's great, but. you know, who
- 12:10sits on our throne, you know, we are Christians.
- 12:12And so we really do believe that he is the King
- 12:16of Kings, the Lord of Lords, and that, um, he
- 12:18will take care of everything. And so we are not
- 12:22going to just sit by idly. We're going to do
- 12:23our part and we're going to act like he has asked
- 12:26us to, to be. And, but it's just a great opportunity
- 12:29instead of, you know, just scrolling, doom scrolling.
- 12:32Um, what happens if we pray or scroll? And so
- 12:35like looking at that, looking at those negative
- 12:37things that are happening, but taking that chance,
- 12:39to sit back and pray for those people and to
- 12:44see those people like God sees those people.
- 12:46And it really could just maybe change the way
- 12:48that you see the world. And then you have your
- 12:53section of family and friends and fiction. And
- 12:57now for my fellow parents out there, you know
- 13:01family time is... Just blessed and stressed.
- 13:05And in .2 seconds, the little moments matter,
- 13:08but maybe bedtime Bible stories with a side of
- 13:11silly voices in the living room dance party for
- 13:14Jesus in my jam. Fictional fun is great, but
- 13:17making memories rooted in joy sounds even better.
- 13:21And so as we walk through the time with your
- 13:25family and your friends, we have a teenage daughter.
- 13:27You have Gia that was on the podcast before,
- 13:30and she's the one that originally wanted to do.
- 13:33this and a 13 year old girl with all the things
- 13:36that she has going, um, she wanted to go ahead
- 13:39and have me continue with this podcast just to
- 13:42continue with it. And she'll jump in, uh, whenever
- 13:44her life calms down, but it's about those little
- 13:47moments. It's about those little memories. It's
- 13:50about, you know, like, oh my gosh, like this
- 13:51is so amazing, but then you can get frustrated
- 13:54or you can get angry or you can get lost in your
- 13:56busy schedule. and your family and your friends
- 13:59and who you surround yourself with is so important.
- 14:02And we've mentioned it on the podcast so many
- 14:04times about how important it is to have those
- 14:07friends and those families, members that, you
- 14:10know, just surround yourself with, that edify
- 14:12you, that build you up, and that you're really
- 14:14being resourceful whenever it comes time to having
- 14:17your tribe, to having your people, that you are
- 14:20utilizing the people that God has given you to
- 14:24build you up and not tear you down. taking inventory
- 14:27about your most precious thing which is your
- 14:31time who are you allowing in your time who are
- 14:33you allowing in your life who are you needing
- 14:35to weed out but yet you don't want to, and you
- 14:38have like, oh, they've, we've been friends for
- 14:4020 years and, and it really isn't, um, the best
- 14:43situation. And, um, loving people from a distance
- 14:46is a thing. And, and selecting that tribe of
- 14:49those people that you can call at one o 'clock,
- 14:51two o 'clock that you are praying for that you,
- 14:53that you love them like a sister or a, you know,
- 14:57a brother and you, their kids and their, their
- 15:00husbands and their, all the things. And so it
- 15:02really is. And so, you know, that fictional time
- 15:05and you have structured time and you have all
- 15:06this. other stuff. And so we used to read this
- 15:08book whenever Gia was little. It was a crayon
- 15:11book and every color had a different personality.
- 15:14And so I would change my voices and She still
- 15:19talks about it to this day. I mean, so she talks
- 15:21about how we would read books and we would have
- 15:23so much pretend time and we would have creativity
- 15:26boxes and we would do all these fun things and
- 15:30I would make her food that looked like animals
- 15:32or whatever she wanted that day. We would do
- 15:36just fun things for lunches and she would like,
- 15:38oh, I want a campfire. And so I would make her
- 15:40a sandwich and I would put like a campfire on
- 15:44the piece of bread and I would make like little
- 15:47you know pretzels with a little marshmallow um
- 15:49on there and it was just a fun way for her to
- 15:52know just how much I loved her and that she was
- 15:55worth the time and the energy to make um you
- 15:57know homemade pop tarts and to make homemade
- 16:00applesauce and make it in little tubes because
- 16:02that package stuff freaked me out and so I would
- 16:04make her food for her because I just felt like
- 16:08that was something that my mom did for me uh
- 16:11she always uh she would have a Tracy friendly
- 16:13uh egg McMuffin in the bathroom for me in the
- 16:18morning in high school and she would make it
- 16:20and she there was a stuff called Maggie I don't
- 16:24know if you guys are familiar with it it's just
- 16:25junk in a bottle but it's delicious it's salty
- 16:29briny and I don't even know and she would put
- 16:32with turkey bacon and cheese and an egg and put
- 16:35that Maggie on there with an English muffin and
- 16:37I would have a glass of something to drink and
- 16:42she wouldn't make it and she would wrap it up
- 16:43and stay warm and she would come and wake me
- 16:45up. And that's the kind of memories that I wanted
- 16:47for my daughter. I wanted my daughter to know
- 16:50that she had a mom that took time out of her
- 16:53schedule to make sure that she had something
- 16:55special every day. And then you have lunch notes
- 16:57and then you have like, you know, I love you
- 16:59and like just a little bit of something. And
- 17:02then you have the teenager that. oh my gosh,
- 17:05don't do that, mom. Like, what are you doing?
- 17:08Like, she wants Lunchables and I thought I was
- 17:10going to cry the first time that she asked me
- 17:12for a Lunchable because that's all what her friends
- 17:14had. I'm like, oh my gosh, like, I just can't.
- 17:16I just can't. give you that it's just horrible
- 17:20and I felt so bad and um and we pick our battles
- 17:24and it's gonna be fine and so now I get to hand
- 17:28my daughter her cold water in the morning and
- 17:30then I hand her her supplements um because she
- 17:33chooses not to eat breakfast for the most part
- 17:35And so it's those little functional, you know,
- 17:38fictional moments that you're taking time that
- 17:40you're just making those memories because the
- 17:42memories are what's going to last. And so as
- 17:45we move forward into our faith forward, what's
- 17:47next? And so as we wrap up today's episode, remember
- 17:50this, that God is in every part of our lives.
- 17:52Laughter, questions, praise, and even true crime
- 17:56podcasts you can't stop listening to. It's all
- 17:59there. his faithfulness. And I am so grateful
- 18:02that we got to navigate this together. And so
- 18:05until next time in fostering faith, laugh, pray,
- 18:09and praise. in one time and so as we've walked
- 18:14through this true crime comedian corner faith
- 18:18and wellness navigation family friends and functionality
- 18:22of life you have the faith to move forward because
- 18:26he is with you he is every part of our lives
- 18:30he is our laughter he is our joy he is the author
- 18:34of the greatest true crime manuscript. He has
