- 0:00Speaker 1: Time now for back to the basics and healthcare with
- 0:02Speaker 1: Balance Life Chiropractic. We've got doctor Harley with us.
- 0:04Speaker 2: Hello, doctor Harley, Hey John.
- 0:06Speaker 1: We're going to chat about back pain today, which that
- 0:09Speaker 1: is something I bet a lot of people if you
- 0:11Speaker 1: said back pain, give me something that you think of
- 0:13Speaker 1: when I think of back pain, they would probably say chiropractors, right, you.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Know, that's kind of one of the initial things people
- 0:18Speaker 2: think of chiropractors working on is back pain or if
- 0:21Speaker 2: someone has back pain, like, oh, I should go the chiropractor.
- 0:24Speaker 2: And yeah, you know, back pain is one of the
- 0:26Speaker 2: number one causes of disability in our country, and probably
- 0:28Speaker 2: all of people didn't think about like that's a good
- 0:31Speaker 2: cause of disability.
- 0:32Speaker 1: I never really thought about that, but I suppose it probably,
- 0:35Speaker 1: and especially if that's something that you struggle with for
- 0:37Speaker 1: a long long time, it can be debilitating, right.
- 0:39Speaker 2: Yeah, you know that's where we see like kind of
- 0:41Speaker 2: the opioid epidemic, we are getting better about that. Chiropractic
- 0:45Speaker 2: is getting pushed more as a first line of treatment
- 0:49Speaker 2: for major chronic back pain. And we've been talking a
- 0:52Speaker 2: lot about men's health this month. Well, that is a
- 0:54Speaker 2: big thing that a lot of guys deal with is
- 0:56Speaker 2: back pain?
- 0:56Speaker 1: Yeah, And if if that's something that a person listening
- 1:00Speaker 1: struggles with, chiropractic might be the answer, and I would
- 1:03Speaker 1: encourage them to reach out to you. What are some
- 1:06Speaker 1: of the things that people should think about like when
- 1:08Speaker 1: they're when you're thinking about back pain and is a
- 1:10Speaker 1: chiropractor right? I suppose if you got like ribs poking out,
- 1:13Speaker 1: maybe that's not Maybe that's not the issue. But there
- 1:16Speaker 1: are a lot of times where it could be. The
- 1:17Speaker 1: could be the.
- 1:18Speaker 2: Case, isn't it. There's a lot of different things that
- 1:20Speaker 2: can contribute to back pain. It can be specifically from
- 1:23Speaker 2: like your lumbar part of your spine, so like the
- 1:26Speaker 2: actual spine part. It could be coming out of your hips.
- 1:29Speaker 2: If your hips aren't moving very well, that puts a
- 1:31Speaker 2: lot more work intention on your low back. It can
- 1:34Speaker 2: be really tight hamstrings that when they're really tight, they pull,
- 1:38Speaker 2: you know, straight down, so they're going to kind of
- 1:40Speaker 2: pull your back down with it. Another thing we see
- 1:43Speaker 2: a lot more is like weak abdominal muscles. I talk
- 1:46Speaker 2: about this a lot with patients as we tend to
- 1:48Speaker 2: as Americans not have very strong core. Yeah, you know,
- 1:52Speaker 2: we sit a lot more so, our back and our
- 1:55Speaker 2: core muscles should kind of ying and yang with each other.
- 1:57Speaker 2: Ones pull on one side, one's pull on the other side.
- 1:59Speaker 2: They should balance. But when we don't have those strong
- 2:02Speaker 2: core muscles, our back muscles actually are working harder, so
- 2:05Speaker 2: they do fatigue a lot faster.
- 2:07Speaker 1: So would that be something where you should stretch or
- 2:09Speaker 1: what would you do to maybe not have that as
- 2:11Speaker 1: an issue.
- 2:12Speaker 2: So if it's a weakness issue, you need to work
- 2:14Speaker 2: on your core strength, doing more abdominal type working out.
- 2:17Speaker 2: If it's like talking like ham strings, trying to stretch
- 2:21Speaker 2: the ham strings, get them to be more relaxed, and
- 2:23Speaker 2: that can be coming from a weak core as well
- 2:26Speaker 2: as their kind of opposites of each other when you
- 2:28Speaker 2: think about our pelvic muscle system.
- 2:31Speaker 1: I didn't realize how weak my core wasn't until I
- 2:34Speaker 1: tried to Kayak. I have apparently a very weak core.
- 2:38Speaker 1: I was like, I'm done, I can't do this. Heidi
- 2:41Speaker 1: was doing great, She's got a very strong core. If
- 2:43Speaker 1: somebody listening is going, okay, I would like some assistants
- 2:45Speaker 1: to find out maybe what I can do because I'm
- 2:47Speaker 1: struggling with back pain. Like I said, I encourage them
- 2:50Speaker 1: to try chiropractic, and I absolutely encourage them to reach
- 2:52Speaker 1: out to you. What is the best way to connect?
- 2:54Speaker 2: Yeah, chiropractic is a good bridging point. If like you
- 2:58Speaker 2: are coming with back pain, You're like, I'm not sure
- 2:59Speaker 2: where this is coming from. We can assess your muscles,
- 3:02Speaker 2: we can assess your spine and your hips, see what
- 3:05Speaker 2: is really the contributing factor to the problem, and then
- 3:08Speaker 2: go from there what's gonna be the best course of treatment.
- 3:10Speaker 2: It's as simple as giving us a call to get started.
