- 0:00Aloha. Tuesday morning in Hawaiʻi. I'm Mele with what's happening today.
- 1:33Expect muggy conditions and more showers. An area of extra moisture moves in tonight and Wednesday, bringing frequent showers to windward and uphill areas, especially overnight and early morning. Brief heavy rain is possible, but widespread flooding isn't expected. Leeward sides stay mostly dry, though occasional showers might spill over. If you're hiking this morning, stick to the leeward slopes to dodge the afternoon wet.
- 1:54Surf is moderate on both Oʻahu shores — 4.1 feet at Waikiki, 4 feet at Waimea. Watch for shore break and rip currents. Kauaʻi's at 5.2 feet with similar conditions. Maui is calmer at 3 feet, and the Big Island is nearly flat at 1.2 feet — solid for snorkeling if you're on Hawaiʻi.
- 2:08At Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park, a few trails and roads are closed for maintenance — Kahuku Unit roads, Kīpukapuaulu Trail, and the Lava Tube Bridge. The park is open, but Kīlauea remains at Advisory alert level. Watch for volcanic ash in dusty areas and check conditions before you go.
- 2:23If the Big Island is on your radar, our new piece on macadamia farm tours walks through the free stops, factory tastings, and what's worth bringing home. We've also put together an August guide to Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park as it hits 110 years — what's open around Kīlauea right now, fee changes, and how to plan your visit with the current closures in mind.
