- 0:00Hello and welcome to Candid Coaches Conversations.
- 0:04I am Coach Mai Lee and with me is Coach Shunta' good morning,
- 0:08Shunta'
- 0:09Good morning.
- 0:10And today we have taken over the podcast.
- 0:13Yeah.
- 0:14Yeah.
- 0:16as you can tell, Kimberly is ~ has allowed us to hold the mic for this week
- 0:22and we're really excited and ~ Shunta' how has your week been?
- 0:27My week has been phenomenal because I have a countdown to my trip.
- 0:33I'm going on a one-week vacation to Puerto Rico.
- 0:36So I'm so excited.
- 0:38Yeah.
- 0:38It's a well deserved vacation.
- 0:40And it's a family vacation like all four of us and that has never happened.
- 0:46So I'm super excited about that.
- 0:48that's wonderful. ~ and
- 0:49Yeah.
- 0:50you said Puerto Rico? ~
- 0:52Yes, ma'am. Thirty two people.
- 0:53Whoa, wow. you mean your whole family?
- 0:57Well, it's the four of us. So my husband,
- 0:59my daughter, and my son. That's what I really mean.
- 1:01However, yes, it includes what,
- 1:04twenty-eight more people? So my
- 1:06Well.
- 1:08sister ~ is turning 40. And so her goal was 40 for 40.
- 1:13So
- 1:13~
- 1:14she came up short, but I don't think she's too disappointed with 32 people going
- 1:19to Puerto Rico with her.
- 1:21Wow,
- 1:21that's a monumentous event. That's amazing.
- 1:24Yeah, it's gonna be interesting.
- 1:26Like
- 1:26Yeah.
- 1:27twenty something people are gonna be in one house together for a week.
- 1:30Wow.
- 1:30Exciting.
- 1:30Okay, bold.
- 1:32Yeah, and gosh I've heard so much ~ so many good things about ~ Puerto Rico,
- 1:37so I hope you all really enjoy.
- 1:39Get some sun, sand
- 1:39Thank you. Thank you.
- 1:41and beach in for me.
- 1:42Yes. How's your week been?
- 1:44it's been it's been actually really good.
- 1:46I don't know if you can hear my dog.
- 1:48She is very excited about her week.
- 1:51Ha ha ha ha.
- 1:53yeah, solid, solid week, solid things going on.
- 1:56yeah, I think I need to put a vacation on the calendar though,
- 2:00because yeah, I'll take some of that energy.
- 2:03Please do. I think that
- 2:05vacations are important, staycations are important.
- 2:09so even a one night out and just away from your home environment,
- 2:14going and renting a room and just giving yourself the freedom to not
- 2:17do anything is so important.
- 2:19Yeah, that's a great idea. Yeah,
- 2:21I might do an I've been talking to some friends on doing a staycation into Austin.
- 2:26Yep.
- 2:27Mm-hmm.
- 2:28So I might figure out what that looks like.
- 2:30Yeah.
- 2:31Yes. Keep us posted.
- 2:33Yeah, absolutely. fill up fill up my own cup.
- 2:36we, you and I were talking, we were looking at the calendar and
- 2:40that our next retreat, planting seeds for 2027,
- 2:44was coming up. And
- 2:46Yay!
- 2:47and then we I would love to know like how in the world,
- 2:51what was your journey on being a part of retreats and how did that come about?
- 2:56Wow, that is a very, very great question.
- 3:00so it's twofold, right? So sit back and bear with me.
- 3:04back and enjoy. We like a good story.
- 3:06Yes. Okay, so when I started my coaching career,
- 3:10well, prior to starting my coaching career,
- 3:13I always believed that I was built for greatness.
- 3:15However, I didn't know exactly what that looked like,
- 3:18who that was going to have me around,
- 3:21or where I was gonna go with that.
- 3:22I would even say younger, I was like,
- 3:25I want to be a motivational speaker.
- 3:26Not knowing exactly what that meant,
- 3:29what that entailed, what was that,
- 3:31I
- 3:31was just like.
- 3:31I want to speak to people and help them,
- 3:34right? And so then I didn't know that they had conventions,
- 3:38they had conferences, they had workshops and things until I met Kimberly.
- 3:44And so ~ I was invited to Growth.
- 3:47They went there, enjoyed it, loved it,
- 3:50hired her as my coach. And when I hired her as my coach,
- 3:54whoa boogie.
- 3:56Yeah, like when you hire a coach,
- 4:00get ready to go. Full throttle.
- 4:04I don't
- 4:04Yes.
- 4:05think I've slowed down since. Life has happened and I'm still moving,
- 4:10shaking, going, doing things. Like,
- 4:12whatever you tell your coach, she's gonna push you through to that.
- 4:16And it's great because I have mentioned,
- 4:19like, I think I want to become a motivational speaker.
- 4:22And so she was like, great. I was in my ~ internship for becoming
- 4:28a licensed professional counselor,
- 4:29and so we had supervision hours that we had to get every week.
- 4:33So she was like, You're gonna start presenting to supervision or suggested.
- 4:38I was like, okay, and not even knowing what to present,
- 4:42what to say to people. I mean,
- 4:44some were old, some were younger,
- 4:46some were experienced, more experienced than me.
- 4:48I'm still trying to get the counseling thing underway.
- 4:50And now you want me to go talk to people and speak to people?
- 4:53Like shy, scared, nervous, like what?
- 4:56However, when you hire a coach,
- 4:58you do it, right? You hired them to push you,
- 5:00you hired them to be your accountability partner.
- 5:03So I was like, okay, let's go,
- 5:04let's do it. So did that. loved it.
- 5:07And I mean, it really just seems like it's been a ripple effect ever since.
- 5:12Like I spoke at my mom's ~ where she
- 5:16was a homeless resident.
- 5:19So she was a resident at a homeless shelter.
- 5:22And then she worked her way up and became the kitchen manager.
- 5:26And so she was a kitchen manager there and they asked me to speak there.
- 5:30So that was such an honor and such a privilege to be able to go and speak
- 5:34to the women that poured into my mom.
- 5:37or the place that poured into my mom and others.
- 5:39So love that. And then I believe Kimberly ~ hosted
- 5:45a when life throw you limits make lemonade
- 5:48Mm.
- 5:49retreat. And I went there and I was like,
- 5:52well this is a little bit more closer to home than Growth Day.
- 5:56Cause you know, when I went to Growth Day I said I want to be on that stage one day.
- 5:59And then when Kimberly did her
- 6:02Retreat, I was like, ooh, so I,
- 6:05Shunta' never done this before,
- 6:07made a bold declaration that retreat that I would be speaking at the next retreat.
- 6:13okay, hold on. In what way did you make this bold declaration?
- 6:17~
- 6:18I said it out loud. I stated
- 6:20it out loud at the retreat that I was going to be speaking at the next retreat.
- 6:25Okay.
- 6:27Yes! I cannot believe I did that.
- 6:30~
- 6:31Wow, like
- 6:32with your whole chest. Heck yeah.
- 6:34Yes! And
- 6:36I mean I I yeah, when you when you speak things and when you write things down,
- 6:42it's like the magic just starts to happen.
- 6:45And so I don't even know if Kimberly planned on doing more retreats or
- 6:50how did that even come about? But ~ like we just sat and like one,
- 6:56two, three, four, five. I spoke at five of her
- 6:59Last retreats.
- 7:00Yeah you have.
- 7:01Yeah, you have put that into existence.
- 7:07Yeah.
- 7:07And
- 7:07isn't that phenomenal? Like it's been a growth curve.
- 7:11It's been a whole learning experience,
- 7:14trying to get over my nerves. I don't even know if I'm ever over
- 7:17my nerves because each experience is different.
- 7:20However, you know, my prayer is still the same that I may say something that impact
- 7:24and make a difference in someone's life to help change their ripple look
- 7:29at their generations.
- 7:30Yeah, that's amazing. That's absolutely tremendous.
- 7:34And what a journey.
- 7:34Thank you. That's my story. I love it.
- 7:37Like what a journey. And
- 7:40like as I hear you share kind of your pathway,
- 7:44I think it's so fabulous 'cause I've heard,
- 7:46FYI, it's been on our podcast in the past,
- 7:49how you have
- 7:51figure it out like, hey, I want to speak this into existence.
- 7:54And you started with speaking at supervision.
- 7:56I actually just listened to that podcast.
- 7:59Ha ha
- 8:00and then ~ I've heard Kimberly's side of like she's kind of always had this
- 8:04in her heart to to do retreats.
- 8:07And you know, her and her husband have been working on it ~ and figuring
- 8:11out how they do so and how they create that,
- 8:14right? And the lemons, what was it?
- 8:16When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.
- 8:19Yes, which was her first like curated retreat that she hosted,
- 8:24which was amazing. I've seen the pictures,
- 8:27I've heard the stories, I was not able to attend.
- 8:29and then how so I it was twofold.
- 8:33I went to a retreat. I was ~ brand new to kind of the Houston area
- 8:39and I was getting myself settled and I was doing supervision as well and
- 8:43I went to my own retreat. it was phenomenal.
- 8:46I loved it. And I came out of it and I was like,
- 8:49gosh, I how do I figure out how to do this?
- 8:51Like I wanna do that, like that's what I'd like to do.
- 8:54I think there's a way to do it.
- 8:55and with my military background,
- 8:58I've worked with veterans who have gone to retreats as well.
- 9:01And the like what it what people walk away with
- 9:05Right, and I'm talking like big infantry men,
- 9:09right, who like like may like scoff at the idea of feelings,
- 9:14like they go to retreats and like come out of it
- 9:17with just greater insight, greater growth and like greater connection
- 9:21for themselves and I was like,
- 9:23that's awesome. Like how do I be a part of that?
- 9:25And what I heard was like all three of us plus the concept plus everyone else who's
- 9:31a part of the Live Life Fully community have kind of come together
- 9:34and it just gained momentum and how we it all kind of got built up.
- 9:41Because we all had this individual desire and how
- 9:46Yeah.
- 9:47I think life, universe, God put us all in contact with one another to like grow this
- 9:53forward and now we're about to host our fifth one.
- 9:55Like,
- 9:56Yes. Yes.
- 9:58what is that? It's amaz
- 10:00Amazing. ~
- 10:02my gosh.
- 10:04Yeah, I think it's tremendous.
- 10:04Ha ha ha.
- 10:06And so we've done we've done renewal.
- 10:08We started with renewal.
- 10:10Mm-hmm.
- 10:10we've done planting seeds, and that was last year's planting seeds.
- 10:15So this year we are doing planting seeds for 2027.
- 10:19Yes.
- 10:20We did
- 10:20No yeah.
- 10:21New Year, New You. and
- 10:24Yeah.
- 10:24what were you for that?
- 10:26New Year, New You was when was that one?
- 10:29Was that in April? Yes.
- 10:30That was the one in January.
- 10:32Okay, so in April I was the butterfly.
- 10:35And I talked about boundaries,
- 10:35For spring. Yes.
- 10:37yes.
- 10:40Yeah.
- 10:41Yeah. So that's a segue on what Mai Lee is talking about
- 10:46of how I I don't know, I guess I I got this bug to dress up.
- 10:52So my first ever speaking engagement was at the homeless shelter.
- 10:55And I wanted to not only make an impact with my words,
- 11:00but how I came into the room.
- 11:02~ what I provided the attendees with.
- 11:06So not only do I give did I give like excuse me information for them
- 11:11to workshop and take away with,
- 11:13but I wanted to just be the whole package,
- 11:16right? And so my very first time I dressed up as captain,
- 11:20captain of a plane, an airplane.
- 11:23And my whole thing I had
- 11:24~ passports because you were about to take a flight and it was self-love flight
- 11:30101 and you were going to love going to learn how to love yourself and
- 11:36so so many time as women as men as whomever entrepreneurs just anyone
- 11:43we give give give we take care of others we do for others we do so much
- 11:48for others that we forget to take care of ourselves and
- 11:50And so that's truly my message that I wanted to hone in to those women
- 11:55in the shelter, to anyone that has come to our retreats,
- 11:58that you are important and that you matter.
- 12:01And that if you want to live your life and take care of others,
- 12:04great. However, if you don't start taking care of yourself first,
- 12:08you won't be there to help and take care of others.
- 12:11And I've seen that in so many different avenues of my life where you're
- 12:16the caretaker or you're the
- 12:18The mom or you're the wife or you're the provo the provider,
- 12:21you're this person to everyone that your health is goes last,
- 12:26and your self-care and self-love just goes last.
- 12:30And it's like, I don't have time for that.
- 12:31I don't have time for that. Well,
- 12:33your your body and your illness will start making you have time to start taking care
- 12:37of you. And sometimes by then it's too late.
- 12:39So I said I'd just say that I love dressing up.
- 12:42And so with that one thing.
- 12:43I got the bug and I loved it. So the very first time I dressed up as
- 12:47the captain of your plane, captain of your self-love flight.
- 12:50And then the second one, I was the sun goddess,
- 12:53and it's still, you know, sun goddess of self-love.
- 12:55butterfly, when I dressed up as the butterfly,
- 12:58it was more about setting healthy boundaries,
- 13:00which is still self love, right?
- 13:02You have love and you have respect for yourself,
- 13:04and so therefore you set those healthy boundaries.
- 13:06And then my most recent, well,
- 13:09okay.
- 13:10For Live Like Fully, my most recent one was I dressed up as the boxer.
- 13:14And that one was me versus me.
- 13:16And that one was really dear to my heart because a lot of times it's so easy
- 13:22for us to blame our past, blame bosses,
- 13:26blame the world on our problems,
- 13:29blame the world on what we're going through.
- 13:31However, as long as you're giving someone else control over your life.
- 13:35you're not able to change your life.
- 13:37The moment you take accountability and control of your life,
- 13:41your problems, your situation,
- 13:42whatever the case may be, the moment you have the ability to change it.
- 13:48And so me versus me was just explaining that you got to get out of your own way,
- 13:52take accountability of your actions,
- 13:54and make your life the life that you want to live with intention and purpose.
- 13:59And then we have a separate side,
- 14:01the collective, where I dressed up as the lighthouse keeper.
- 14:05And I love that as well. I love the meaning that it had for I like
- 14:09all of them actually. It's really fun and creative ~ to actually play the role,
- 14:14dress up as the role, and I go all out.
- 14:17So if you haven't been to one,
- 14:19I encourage you to come because my dress ups are a surprise.
- 14:23No one really knows until the day of
- 14:27They
- 14:27are. I think we're gonna have to like start like keeping it quiet
- 14:31and then maybe doing like little peak peak previews and having people guess.
- 14:35Ha ha ha ha.
- 14:35I think
- 14:36would be so great. ~
- 14:38Yes.
- 14:38and so yeah, let's so you do create this whole package and this whole experience
- 14:44and I love how you kind of envision that from the get go to figure out how they get
- 14:50a a very real holistic kind of concept.
- 14:53and so at our retreats, right,
- 14:56I I'd love to share like what a an attendee would be able to experience
- 15:01and get so they they understand what they're signing up for and what they're walking
- 15:05into. And so if you could say
- 15:08If you could pick th three main ideas,
- 15:11right, that an attendee would get ~ by signing up and coming to a Live Life Fully
- 15:16retreat, what would that be?
- 15:17Three main ideas that an attendee would get from a retreat.
- 15:22Okay. one, I think our main purpose is reset,
- 15:27right? It's the reset, refocus,
- 15:30and recharge because like I like I just say it really,
- 15:34like
- 15:35We're so busy taking care of everyone else that we forget to take care of ourselves.
- 15:39And so when I say reset, I we just started implementing.
- 15:44So you're getting a sneak peek if you listen to this podcast.
- 15:48silent retreats. And I attended a silent retreat before and mine was a day,
- 15:54like eight hours, silent retreat.
- 15:55Full day. Right.
- 15:57Yes, silence, like
- 15:59Not even talking to tell you it's food time.
- 16:01and to be honest, it was really amazing.
- 16:04It was good. I've never really completed a coloring sheet like
- 16:09the adult coloring books. It took me three hours,
- 16:12however, I did it. filled the time.
- 16:14However,
- 16:14Yeah.
- 16:16the time that I was able to sit with myself was beautiful.
- 16:20Like to try to just quiet my brain.
- 16:23Like how many times like we can't even cry out our brains at night because we're on,
- 16:28we're thinking. And so just to reset and say,
- 16:31you know what, it's time to quiet your brain,
- 16:34it's time to relax, and it's just time to focus on you.
- 16:37It's time to pour into yourself.
- 16:39You have three to six speakers.
- 16:42So you have different perspectives or people telling you that you matter,
- 16:46take care of you, and who are you,
- 16:48right?
- 16:49Trying to find your identity. We have somatic exercises.
- 16:53so we do some different things.
- 16:55So it's not just it and it's a workshop.
- 16:57Like we want you to gain some knowledge about you and what does that look like?
- 17:03Who are you? And how can you grow?
- 17:06How can you get to the next level?
- 17:08So essentially it's a coaching session with four to six different perspectives
- 17:14of coaching you through.
- 17:15an event like and you can come to every retreat and get free coaching.
- 17:19And we've had we've had a few guests who have come to multiple retreats,
- 17:24who have also shared that they get something different out of it each time.
- 17:27Yeah.
- 17:28Yes, yes. And
- 17:30we will coach you through some things.
- 17:33Yep. I like this. Reset, refocus,
- 17:35and recharge.
- 17:37Yes.
- 17:37And so
- 17:38we would love to invite you to Planting Seeds for 2027.
- 17:42It's going to prepare you, right,
- 17:45and how we want to move into our new year.
- 17:48And we will do it three months ahead of schedule so we can use that time wisely
- 17:53and get ourselves set up for success and what success looks like.
- 17:56And Shante, what day is that?
- 17:58October the third.
- 17:59so you can go to our website and check that out and sign up.
- 18:04Sign up now because we still have early bird special occurring and prices
- 18:08are still at ~ early bird discounts.
- 18:10So absolutely check that out.
- 18:12Yes, llfuly dot com backslash retreats.
- 18:16Very very exciting. And we're excited to see you there.
- 18:19So let's figure out what continued re you said continued reset,
- 18:24refocus, and recharge looked like.
- 18:25I love this.
- 18:26Yes.
- 18:27Okay, wonderful. Shunta' this has been so lovely.
- 18:30It has. Thank you for taking over podcast.
- 18:34Yeah,
- 18:34we might have to we might have to try this again.
- 18:36Okay, outstanding. All right all we
- 18:37I agree.
- 18:41wish you a great week and we will ~ talk to you later.
- 18:44Bye.
