- 0:48and women's and then again Rob Dosser, boys, he been good to
- 0:52us. Field of 68.
- 0:53Back with us recapping the Final Four from Saturday and then
- 0:57taking a look ahead to what we can expect tonight is Michigan
- 1:01and UConn will collide for a national champion.
- 1:04Point spreads about 7, a couple of six and a halfs, 6 and a
- 1:06halfs in the market still out there, but for the most part,
- 1:10sevens everywhere else. We'll get that tonight.
- 1:14Masters coming up this weekend. Matt Rudy will join us in the
- 1:16middle of the week as he always does.
- 1:18The preview of the first of golf's 4 majors and away we go.
- 1:22How are you, Trent Condon? How was Easter with the family?
- 1:25It was great yes, got to hang out.
- 1:27The Easter Bunny made his way to the homestead.
- 1:30So yes, late night outside and away we went.
- 1:34That's. What you do?
- 1:34We hide them outside. Yeah, yeah, the the eggs are
- 1:37outside. So the Bunny got out there
- 1:38hopping around and making that happen, and away we go.
- 1:41Now spring felt like spring finally yesterday for a while.
- 1:44That was very nice. Yeah.
- 1:45In the afternoon, as the front can.
- 1:47Win though. It was getting you, wasn't it?
- 1:49Oh. Just drives me nuts.
- 1:51But we're here and as we will put the cap on, of course,
- 1:54college basketball here tonight. The women are in the book after
- 1:57yesterday. What a.
- 1:58Disappointing game. And then it's the masters.
- 2:00And then it's time for you to shine as hockey and.
- 2:04And the NFL. Draft, the NFL draft,
- 2:07absolutely. So lot going on here still.
- 2:09It's still a very busy time before things really slow down,
- 2:14May, June, But we got the transfer portal we do, and
- 2:16that's going to be big for really all four programs that
- 2:20matter the most, both the women and the men for Iowa and Iowa
- 2:23State, a lot of intriguing angles to look at.
- 2:25There, no. And a couple of a couple of
- 2:27really good players from one from the Big 10, one for the Big
- 2:3012. Haggerty from K State, far and
- 2:32away their best player. He's in.
- 2:34Blackwell from Wisconsin, he's in.
- 2:37These guys are going to get paid.
- 2:39And it's just the beginning of the, I don't know, on an
- 2:42onslaught. We'll see where it goes or where
- 2:45it ends, but it's buckle up. As you said, it's going to be a
- 2:49crazy couple of a couple of weeks, certainly to see, you
- 2:52know, as everybody tries to replenish their roster.
- 2:55Is Ben Mccomb's contract done? I, I see conflicting things that
- 2:59it's getting close. Remember that during the run.
- 3:02It's, I don't know if it's true or not.
- 3:04It's it's on X that that they started to I think Beth Getz
- 3:09came out and apparently was quoted as saying that they're
- 3:12working on working on something. Do we, do we know how close they
- 3:16are? I'm not saying he's going
- 3:17anywhere. I think it'd be all speculation
- 3:19at this point. This point, OK, we'll ask Guy
- 3:21Colt if he's got anything or not, but I would anticipate that
- 3:24that's being done behind the scenes.
- 3:26So let's recap some basketball. Let's go back to Friday night.
- 3:29And obviously, unfortunately and and it does over shadow South
- 3:34Carolina's convincing win over the free square.
- 3:38Good God, we got it again. Duke Final Four UConn women just
- 3:41cinches. Absolutely.
- 3:43Put them in there. Yep.
- 3:44Build that championship parlay. You bet a little.
- 3:46You're gonna make a ton. Yep, you just gotta put a couple
- 3:49of those keys in there. This is the easy part.
- 3:51This is how you do it, folks. Probably forget it that, aren't
- 3:55we? My good God absolutely destroyed
- 4:00Colorado. You better win the Stanley Cup.
- 4:02Do you know I believe, where this started, with you and me
- 4:05putting together these championship parlays?
- 4:07Do you remember? I do.
- 4:09I remember when. Did one of us hit?
- 4:11No, we saw a few of them. We would talk about them on our
- 4:14TV show Inside the Numbers on Mediacom, and they kind of pop
- 4:17from time to time. And we were talking about four
- 4:20years ago, the South Carolina women.
- 4:22Oh, I do remember that part, yes.
- 4:24And I remember you came in one morning like I got it.
- 4:28I, I got it figured out. And I'm like there's.
- 4:31Not any mornings I've come in in that frame of mind, right?
- 4:34And I was like, that's it. Hell of an idea.
- 4:36I'm going to do the same thing. So I'll put together this with
- 4:38the NBA championship, a college basketball, maybe throw a Super
- 4:42Bowl, whatever it was. We started building these things
- 4:45building. And almost every one of them had
- 4:47South Carolina that year. And then 22 showed up in Dallas
- 4:51and completely changed that. And I was glad to lose those
- 4:54tickets, and I know you were too.
- 4:56Yes, but four years later, here we are again.
- 4:59Well, this is another easy one. We're right back at it again
- 5:02with this Yukon team. They're going to dominate their
- 5:04and, no and and on a Friday night.
- 5:06Trent, they got destroyed. They got manhandled.
- 5:09They did. Physically manhandled, and
- 5:11that's what Dawn Staley's teams can do to you is completely take
- 5:14you out of it physically and they did that.
- 5:18In a way it is unfortunate. It is.
- 5:20And I think I think that showed up again on Sunday, yesterday in
- 5:25the championship game. It's just all the inertia, all
- 5:28the extra that goes into he just didn't win a game.
- 5:32It's the extra layers that go into it and how that just
- 5:36impacts the clubhouse, the locker room.
- 5:39Those things, they do matter and they're things that we can't
- 5:42measure analytically. They're not things that you can
- 5:45put something quantitative on and say this is going to happen,
- 5:48so this is going to happen, but you can see it.
- 5:51And that's why these are not robots.
- 5:53These are not just algorithms out there playing.
- 5:55These are people and the people I believe were impacted of what
- 5:59happened. Now, credit to UCLA.
- 6:02And I was so excited for that game.
- 6:04And it just, it wasn't a game. They were completely taken out.
- 6:07But back to Friday night. How do?
- 6:10You support this guy? It's.
- 6:12Seriously, I know he, I guess he wins.
- 6:15And if you in an alum, I mean, you're, you're going to look the
- 6:18other way, put your head in the sand because that's what fans
- 6:20do. But how do you support this guy?
- 6:24What a fool he made of himself. He has been this guy though for
- 6:3130 years. But I don't think that, yes, he
- 6:34has of without a doubt, yes. But the country saw just how bad
- 6:38it can get, and it was terrible, absolutely.
- 6:41Terrible and then during the final four you have all the
- 6:44commercials on Saturday rolling with him with whatever was
- 6:46healthy gardener with you're right and talk about just cringe
- 6:49worthy. Like I the first time my wife
- 6:51saw it, I just looked over at her face and I I thought she was
- 6:53going to throw up right just see him and just absolutely
- 6:58despicable in a moment like that.
- 6:59Your undefeated team got their ass 1 and that's your reaction
- 7:04to be upset? First of all, handshake before
- 7:06the game. Right and first of all, it was
- 7:08bad when Holly was in Holly Roll Yeah right.
- 7:11That that interview him after the third quarter or sometime
- 7:14prior to the fourth quarter talked about the calls and if
- 7:17you could only hear some of the stuff that's coming up, really
- 7:19you're going to throw another coach under the bus for her
- 7:22language. That's how you're going to use
- 7:24your time in front of the in front of the camera to talk
- 7:27about how the the game's going. Like, I mean, I guess the game
- 7:30wasn't going very well, but good God.
- 7:33And then even yesterday, because the game was a blowout, it kind
- 7:36of trickled back into it. If the game would have been
- 7:38competitive, then maybe the Yukon, South Carolina, I turned
- 7:42it off. I turned it off.
- 7:44It was over after midway through the third quarter and I turned
- 7:46it. Well, I did turn off.
- 7:47I turned a baseball. The Cubs are another story.
- 7:50Got that Bullpen's awful. My good.
- 7:52I know we're nine games into it, but the Jesus I don't know
- 7:54what's worse them are the blow Jays who gets swept by the God
- 7:58forsaken Chicago White Sox. What an embarrassing weekend for
- 8:01the defending American League champion.
- 8:03There's. A lot of bad bullpens, of
- 8:05course, my Twins, we anticipated were going to be bad.
- 8:08How about the Nationals? Mike Palm came with that us that
- 8:10nugget on Friday. And I have jumped aboard on the
- 8:12overs of national games 'cause they can swing it.
- 8:15Their bullpit yesterday, they're up 62, they lose 86, they're
- 8:18going to the 8th. They're up 6, two against the
- 8:21Dodgers and they lose 86. And I think 8 1/2 was the total
- 8:24in that one. It was cruised over.
- 8:25Took a while to get there, but I'm going to be playing that
- 8:28angle I think a lot this season. But yeah, bullpens overall.
- 8:31Back to Friday, though. Don Staley, did you see the clip
- 8:34from back behind the South Carolina bench?
- 8:37Yes, I did see that, yes. She's going to whoop Gino's ass.
- 8:41And she would. She absolutely would.
- 8:43I mean, she's a -. 250 favorite in that fight.
- 8:45I'm taking Don Staley every single day of that one and I'm
- 8:48laying the lumber with Don Staley.
- 8:50But to have an incredible performance overshadowed by that
- 8:55and a guy that's a whiner and a complainer.
- 8:57And if he's so worried about decorum, if that's what his
- 9:01sticking point was, was the decorum of it, I mean, he's
- 9:04lying. He's lying.
- 9:06He's upset that he got his butt kit.
- 9:07That's how it is. That's all that this is.
- 9:11But did his team then shake hands afterwards?
- 9:14So decorum only matters in this one instance.
- 9:16I didn't see that they didn't shake hands.
- 9:18After he didn't know. He didn't, I know, but did the
- 9:21teams well. He worries about decorum.
- 9:23They go shake their hands, go congratulate the team.
- 9:25Saw him that just beat your undefeated team.
- 9:28Yeah, only matters for a pregame handshake at the Final Four.
- 9:32That's what matters, apparently, to the liar, the scumbag Gina
- 9:37Orion. And it's unfortunate.
- 9:38There he is. I'm watching walk off the floor.
- 9:40It's on the yes. It's on.
- 9:41What's this McAfee right now? Well done, UCLA, you deserve
- 9:45your flowers. Unfortunately, it's going to be
- 9:47overshadowed Just how dominant that they were going to be
- 9:51overshadowed. Let's get to the men from from
- 9:53Saturday night. First game was better of the
- 9:55two, yes, as far as competitive game being.
- 9:59Did you feel like Illinois was getting?
- 10:02Over the hump. I did.
- 10:03I did. I thought that they had a chance
- 10:05when they cut it to four. I want to say, Yep, cut it to
- 10:08four late in the game. I thought, you know, here's the
- 10:10chance to come back, but then. Because that was the second time
- 10:13you kind of got a scoring slot, yes, Yep, you can handle one.
- 10:17But now you're going through it again.
- 10:20But they found a way. They did.
- 10:21They did find a way and and hats off to him, hats off to Danny
- 10:25Hurley, hats off to that team. It's a fun team to watch play.
- 10:29I don't know how much fun they're going to have tonight.
- 10:31We shall see. Remains to be seen because this
- 10:34Michigan outfits rent. You know what it reminded me of?
- 10:37It reminds me of how I kind of felt back in the The Players Era
- 10:42tournament to Las Vegas when they were just so damn dominant.
- 10:46They look like they're at that again.
- 10:49We'll see where it goes. Obviously there's some health
- 10:51concerns that that you've got to pay attention to.
- 10:55With Len Borg, how many minutes did he play 14?
- 10:59Is that what it was? Yeah, that's off the top of my
- 11:02head. What it was.
- 11:02Let me click on the box score here. 15 is what they have.
- 11:06Yeah, it came back out there. Hit a couple of threes, like,
- 11:09all right. But that's all he wanted to do,
- 11:11Simi, because I was paying close attention to him.
- 11:13It's not like he was getting real involved.
- 11:16And it sounds like there's real concerns like like.
- 11:20Jefferson concerns. I don't think that I think he's
- 11:23going to make it a go, but how? Because he walked on, you could
- 11:25pull away. I mean, Jefferson, he was helped
- 11:27off the floor. Impactful this is going to be, I
- 11:30think that is going to be a question, but.
- 11:32If they were playing Rutgers tonight in February, he wouldn't
- 11:35play. Right.
- 11:36Yeah, absolutely. And there was some also some
- 11:38talk afterwards that there were some maybe handlers that weren't
- 11:41exactly excited about him. Stop.
- 11:42Talking though that he said it out of his own mouth, his mom
- 11:45and his agent. I'm so glad you reminded me of
- 11:49that. I, I guess it's the era that
- 11:51we're in right, but he was asked after the game.
- 11:54He said, well, my mom didn't want me to go back in my agent.
- 11:57They were texting my mom and my agent were saying, you know,
- 11:59don't go back in the game. I wanted to go back in.
- 12:01I mean, really, that's where we're at now that you're getting
- 12:05texts in the locker room from mom and they're looking out for
- 12:09your and their best interests for sure.
- 12:13But it just, it just struck me as odd.
- 12:16You know, one thing, 1 angle as watching that unfold and Arizona
- 12:21gets it back to seven. Oh, maybe right back to 13.
- 12:24Just snap over the finger just as quickly as that is.
- 12:28All right, 2 great front lines going up against each other.
- 12:31I guess the angle that maybe I miss most that I shouldn't have
- 12:34is Michigan can beat you a bunch of different ways.
- 12:37There's kind of 1 angle for Arizona.
- 12:39It's Bradley off the bounce and then the big front line.
- 12:42Will you negate that? Frontline Bradley gets in foul
- 12:44trouble. They don't have a counter punch
- 12:46to that. Bradley picked up with his third
- 12:49foul. Did you like the third foul?
- 12:51I didn't like it either. He did put yeah.
- 12:54When the whistle went, you knew what it was.
- 12:56Good. I know, I know.
- 12:57And you knew. That I just didn't like the
- 12:58whistle. I'm with you.
- 13:00But if you're going to blow the whistle, that has to be the
- 13:02call. No, I agree.
- 13:03I just was kind of hoping they'd I know because for competitive
- 13:06sake of. Right.
- 13:08It wasn't a game, Yes, it was the player of the year in the
- 13:10Big 12. And that frontline crevas looked
- 13:14awful. He did.
- 13:15Dribbling into trouble, trying to do way too much the.
- 13:18Other kid Karchenkov. A berries.
- 13:20Now, I know a lot of them were late when they were just
- 13:22hoisting, but he was completely out of sorts.
- 13:25This Michigan squad, they are deep, they are talented, they
- 13:29can beat you a bunch of different ways.
- 13:30But if there is one team, you know, you know what, I think
- 13:33it's one coach. There it is.
- 13:35You said it's correct, Yes. Not one team, one coach that can
- 13:39come up here. We'll talk a little bit more
- 13:41about the game plan and kind of how this sets up here, but
- 13:44that's the one angle to it. It's Hurley.
- 13:47It's Hurley on the sideline. You talk about already 2
- 13:50national championships, three Final Fours in four years, but
- 13:53you do this, You talk about completely different
- 13:56stratosphere. This is by far the best coaching
- 13:59performance if he can. Without a doubt.
- 14:00Even have his team with a. Shot to get there.
- 14:03Final 10 minutes, you got a shot.
- 14:04That's a great coaching job in its.
- 14:06Own going back to knocking out Duke the way that they did and
- 14:08then taking care of Illinois and we'll see.
- 14:11I thought we were going to be ticketed for Big 10 versus Big
- 14:1510, but it's going to be a Big 10 versus a Big East.
- 14:19And away we will go. Again.
- 14:21The number's about 7:00. What time's it tip?
- 14:2310 minutes to 8? Is that what I saw 750?
- 14:2575750 Our time. That's not brutal.
- 14:28So that'll be over by 10:30. By the way, I don't know what
- 14:32they can do. I don't know what the answer is.
- 14:35I know what the answer isn't. The chain smokers.
- 14:38And did you happen to be watching television?
- 14:41The actual guys on the set? And by the way, what a
- 14:43difference Ernie Johnson makes. Night and frickin day.
- 14:47No offense. Nate Brilson.
- 14:49James Naismith. Yeah, yeah, the guy from SNL
- 14:53playing the character. I have no idea who was.
- 14:54Is that what he's in SNL? Well, he was 20 years ago, yeah.
- 14:59I could just feel how uncomfortable it was for
- 15:03everybody squirming in their seats on the panel.
- 15:06A It wasn't funny. No, not in the least.
- 15:09And that's what it was meant to be.
- 15:10And I just, I mean, if you're Barkley or you're the Jet or
- 15:14you're Ernie, you don't want to be there for that.
- 15:16No. Right that was terrible and then
- 15:19the chain smoke. I've I've heard of them just
- 15:21because of their name. I couldn't tell you one song
- 15:24that they. Sing and I'm sure you've heard
- 15:25them. Do you think?
- 15:27There's probably four or five songs, really.
- 15:29Yeah, yeah, absolutely. Kidding.
- 15:30Yeah. All right, I'll touch your word
- 15:32for it. But I want to see why did that
- 15:33game have to tip off an hour right afterwards?
- 15:37It's what to. Get the chain smokers and
- 15:39Naismith in it, yes? It's the final four.
- 15:41I get it. It's not going to be 25 minutes
- 15:43after the conclusion of the game, yes.
- 15:45It's like most tournaments. Yes, you're going to extend it
- 15:47out. You're not going to have that.
- 15:49I completely understand that. Part Got to hear some
- 15:51commercials because they're paying a lot of freight for
- 15:53that. Because the estimated tip time
- 15:55originally I think was five O 9 and 749.
- 15:59That rings a bell. I think you said that last week.
- 16:02And then we get to. I look down, I look at my phone,
- 16:07it's after 8:00 and they're still not close.
- 16:09They haven't done the starting line UPS.
- 16:10What the hell is going on? I I man, that was bad.
- 16:15Yeah. That was bad.
- 16:16And no knock on the chain smokers.
- 16:18I enjoyed some of their songs. OK, got no problem there.
- 16:22Time and place, right? Nobody wants that, no?
- 16:25And the Naismith thing was? Naismith thing was just as bad
- 16:27as you were ever going to find television wise.
- 16:30Get it off really bad for him. I did good God, sitting on that
- 16:34set, but but back there and he Johnson just being there.
- 16:37I think it's the I I think Barkley and the jet are just
- 16:40more comfortable with Ernie and he's been there and maybe the
- 16:43audiences too. You know how I am in change.
- 16:45Not real good with it in the beginning and and maybe next
- 16:48year I'll like Burleson. I don't think I will, but.
- 16:52You will probably maybe you you hated Boog in the beginning.
- 16:55Well, I didn't hate him nationally.
- 16:57You hated him on Cubs bro. I did.
- 16:59I I did. Give it time.
- 17:01Yeah, you'll be fine. Yeah, I think Burleson was
- 17:03completely fine. Yeah.
- 17:05Yeah. All right, You'll get there.
- 17:07Maybe I will, what else from the weekend as we're on the cusp of
- 17:10the Master? Did you watch golf for the
- 17:12weekend? I watched a lot of golf.
- 17:13Did you, were you invested A. Little bit some top 20s I
- 17:17didn't. The guy that I bet to win Seb
- 17:19Straka I think barely made the cut but the JJ spawn part was
- 17:23incredible. I didn't see, I didn't see a
- 17:25shot. So he's played really well at
- 17:28this course before. Had him on the card as a top 20,
- 17:30that was it. But he.
- 17:31Is he on the lift? No, no, no.
- 17:34He's the one that won the US Open last year, had the
- 17:36incredible shot on 17, the par four that he got on there and
- 17:41won that one. Just kind of a career journeyman
- 17:43guy in his mid 30s and got it done.
- 17:45He's playing at a really high level at this point.
- 17:47He came roaring back. A good field, good card overall
- 17:50and just a good, good appetizer absolutely to kind of get things
- 17:55going. So it was fun to watch him just
- 17:57pouring rain in San Antonio as they're playing down there.
- 17:59Yeah, playing through there. We had that back and forth with
- 18:02the women's game and my my mom was like, so can they hold the
- 18:06umbrella over their head? No, you got to move the umbrella
- 18:08away right as they're putting. So you had the caddies there
- 18:10with that. But I'm so excited for the
- 18:12Masters. I am too.
- 18:13Would you bet Scheffler he was up to 5 1/2 to one.
- 18:15I think he's come down a tick or two.
- 18:18I think he's in the mid fours now.
- 18:19Somewhere around there. His wife just had a baby that
- 18:22their second child a second boy. Apparently the last time he
- 18:27showed up as a new Papa, he won. Yes.
- 18:31But this is number 2. I don't know, I I'm just going
- 18:34to stick with our Bobby McIntyre.
- 18:35Just going to ride the lefty. I don't think I'm going to get
- 18:38invested anymore one bit. Just go in there.
- 18:42I love the tournament. I you know, I don't I don't want
- 18:45to be sitting on like last year. I had a huge Rory stack him up
- 18:49right and I needed him to win. And of course he he did win and
- 18:53I love the story as well. But I think I'm just going to
- 18:55sit on the sidelines of Bobby Mac's great if he's he's there.
- 18:58If not. And he was off to a great start.
- 19:01He had a three shot. We only I saw he finished one
- 19:03back right so he started the day up 3.
- 19:06Yesterday. No, that was at one point on
- 19:08Saturday, I think he was, yeah. And.
- 19:09Then gave a couple back. I was fine with that.
- 19:12Yeah, me too. Don't win.
- 19:13Don't. Win a shuffler by the way.
- 19:15Currently plus 475 at 475. Yep, that's the price that is
- 19:18there. John Brahma is the second choice
- 19:20at +1050. And that's Circus Plus.
- 19:24This is Yeah, this is circa. Because I saw single digits most
- 19:27places for Rob. Well, and also remember at Circa
- 19:30I will give you this advice if you are looking to bet on the
- 19:32masters, wait until we get to Wednesday because these odds it
- 19:36will get as close to what you would get even odds on betting a
- 19:41particular. Game, right?
- 19:44They will go from the what they call the, the threshold, which
- 19:48is you go to DraftKings, FanDuel, see the big places for
- 19:53golf. It's like laying -130 I mean,
- 19:55that's kind of the hold that they have in the market compared
- 19:57to what you get. Circa's not going to get down to
- 19:5910% -, 110, but it's going to be 15 to 18% hold.
- 20:03Significant difference from the big shops.
- 20:05And that's what you're going to see the big difference in these
- 20:07kind of prices when it pertains to the winners.
- 20:09Not everyone, because they might have somebody that came in about
- 20:12$100,000, right? And and put those kind of big
- 20:15bets in that are going to sway things.
- 20:16But wait till Wednesday if you're betting at Circa, which
- 20:18you should be for golf. For golf, you absolutely.
- 20:20Should it is going to you're going to see about as good a
- 20:23prices for most of the guys in the market.
- 20:25Well, and Speaking of that, I, I, you know, I had my Illinois
- 20:28ticket at 80 to one, right? And so I have 3 apps.
- 20:32I have DraftKings, I have Circa and I have bet Rivers and I my
- 20:34big ticket was on bet rivers. So I had to use bet rivers to
- 20:38get my hedge in. It was by far the worst prices.
- 20:41I mean, it truly is. DraftKings was second best
- 20:45circa. I was getting the best price,
- 20:47but but because I had the my, you know, my shot in the dark at
- 20:52Bette Rivers, I was forced to take a short price and play
- 20:54around there. So we'll see where it goes.
- 20:57I've got Michigan and I've got UConn, so it doesn't matter who
- 21:00wins the game tonight of but it will once we get to the Stanley.
- 21:03I have one other hedging opportunity tonight.
- 21:06I'm in like a point spread betting pool.
- 21:08You don't even pick them. You just given different teams
- 21:11throughout the course of the tournament.
- 21:12So if Michigan wins and if Michigan covers tonight, I win
- 21:15the whole pool and it's like $400.00.
- 21:18So do I just take Yukon and the points on the other side and
- 21:21Garam ITC? Yeah.
- 21:23Get something. And I kind of feel good about
- 21:24Yukon and the points. I certainly do if it's seven out
- 21:27of 7 1/2, if you find something like that out there, we'll see
- 21:29kind of what the day does. But I think that's the.
- 21:31Simplest. So you're going to wait till it
- 21:33goes up, you think? I think so.
- 21:35You think it will. You think?
- 21:35We're going to get Michigan money coming in.
- 21:38Yes, I think so too. Have you seen the betting splits
- 21:41at all today? I have not.
- 21:42We'll take a peek at that before we get to my picks at the end of
- 21:44the. Show.
- 21:45All right, let's get Devin in here, then we'll go to break.
- 21:47We get David Icolt. He'll join us first on the
- 21:50Hawkeyes. Bill Seals kicks off our number
- 21:522 on Iowa State and Rob Doster Field is 68.
- 21:55More on the natty tonight. Hello, Devin.
- 21:57How are you? Doing good gentlemen.
- 21:59Happy Monday. I have a quick question.
- 22:01You guys are going to have to help me out here and dig into
- 22:03the memory files. So last year there was some
- 22:06major golf tournament that had a rain delay and there was a
- 22:10gentleman that resided in Des Moines.
- 22:12Two years ago, was that two years ago?
- 22:15Did he ever take DraftKings to court?
- 22:17He did, you know he did. And he win that.
- 22:20I don't know. Didn't we have the lawyer on?
- 22:22Didn't we have his attorney? On yes, absolutely we.
- 22:24Did and then I. Wonder if he won that?
- 22:27Yeah, go ahead. Sorry.
- 22:28I was going to say, Devin, I think that because we were on
- 22:31his side, on the guy on the player's side, and then we saw
- 22:35was it a house rule, Trent? It kind of got us off the scent
- 22:39a little bit thinking, you know, I think it's going to turn out
- 22:42badly for this kid. That's a great one, Devin.
- 22:44You know what was so I should or Trent, one of us should follow
- 22:49up and see how this thing turned out because I, I'm trying to
- 22:53remember the attorney's name that we.
- 22:54Had. I can't remember now.
- 22:56Good question, Devin. Anything else?
- 22:59Nope, that's all I got, gentlemen.
- 23:00Thank you. The call.
- 23:00Yeah, good blast from the past. Yeah, because it this he bet.
- 23:06Everybody to finish in the top 20 that was currently in the top
- 23:0920. Right, because he knew that
- 23:10there was an all likelihood to get the tournament was going to
- 23:13be called after 50. Four holes, 36 holes with the
- 23:18way that it was going and it was maybe leading into a major, so
- 23:21they weren't going to push the thing till Monday or even
- 23:23Tuesday if need be. And then DraftKings decided.
- 23:26I think it was that Pebble. I think it was the January
- 23:29tournament Pebble, and he just parlayed all the top 20 guys
- 23:32that were currently there all together.
- 23:33Of course it hit because that turned out to be the official
- 23:36results. And we were on.
- 23:37We were on his side from the jump.
- 23:39But then the house rules. Then the house rules and that's
- 23:42why they're, that's why they're published, because they protect
- 23:45you and they protect the the operator.
- 23:51Yeah. I wonder how that, you know
- 23:52what? I'm guessing it didn't go well
- 23:54because we didn't hear any more about it.
- 23:55Absolutely. Although we do were saying at
- 23:58the time that this is going to take a while to filter through
- 24:00the courts. Yes, those things do drag out.
- 24:03Yeah. Going up against a DraftKings
- 24:06though, they got some lawyers. Sure.
- 24:08Yeah, Yeah, this guy had a, I don't remember who whose
- 24:14attorney was. Well, I'll be 1.
- 24:16I don't feel good about his chances, but I I hope we got
- 24:19something out of it. All right, David Eichel will
- 24:21join us next. We'll do some Hawkeye related
- 24:23topics with David Eichelt, another woman in the portal for
- 24:26Iowa today, and anything about her that you know.
- 24:30Tegan Milady. Yes.
- 24:32So she's the one that Tom mentioned to us on Friday.
- 24:35Her boyfriend had just passed away in a car accident.
- 24:38That's the story. Yes, and she's from Wisconsin.
- 24:43I she had a non no contact. I think we can connect the dots
- 24:48here. She's probably going to go to
- 24:50Wisconsin. Yeah, and that's one.
- 24:54Yeah, yeah. Time Out, Come Back Eye, Colt
- 24:57Next Miller and Condon on the Iowa Sports Radio Network.
- 25:11I'm Mary Connon, welcome back 12:30 Iowa Sports Radio network.
- 25:16Just to follow up on the golf story the Devon called in about
- 25:20it was the 2020 four AT&T Pebble Beach.
- 25:23The Dallas County resident or resident at the time Nick Davis
- 25:28and his attorney was Clive based attorney Ben Lynch.
- 25:31And apparently the case gets to court in September of this year.
- 25:36So if you're bored of football in September, which I'm guessing
- 25:40you won't. No, probably not.
- 25:43You may want to circle. Around to this.
- 25:45Let's get David Eicholt in here. He joins us hawkeyeinsider.com,
- 25:4924/7 Sports. Thanks for coming on, brother.
- 25:52How are you? We're staying busy, man, but
- 25:55it's all good. It's it's a fun time of year and
- 25:59I'm just kind of counting down the days till the end of April.
- 26:02Then it feels like we get a check out a little bit more.
- 26:04But we're good, man. We're thriving.
- 26:06No, the portal obviously is going to keep everybody busy, no
- 26:09doubt about that. Hey, I do want to ask you Bob,
- 26:11before we get into the portal, we'll do some football obviously
- 26:13as well as we haven't spoken with you on in a while.
- 26:16And I know Ference etcetera has met with you guys, members of
- 26:20the media. So we'll bring maybe bring that
- 26:22up again. But Ben Mccollum's contract,
- 26:25there was some some conversation as I was making their run
- 26:29through the tournament that Beth Getz was starting to renegotiate
- 26:34or redraw the contract. Do you know where that is at or
- 26:37even if that story was accurate? I thought that she was quoted in
- 26:41the piece, but I could be mistaken.
- 26:44Sure. So I mean, from my sources and
- 26:46my understanding is I do think that they are going to be
- 26:48meeting sometime probably this week to iron out some of those
- 26:51details. And, you know, again, I think
- 26:53Beth knows that she's going to have to give an extension.
- 26:55And I think Ben's also earned it just based on what what he's
- 26:58been able to show. But, you know, North Carolina's
- 27:01approaching that Penn State football level To me, if they
- 27:04don't get Billy Donovan, I mean, then they're really striking
- 27:07out. And I think they're still going
- 27:08to try to go after buying thin from Vanderbilt.
- 27:10But if that doesn't happen, it's probably Scott Drew or Ben
- 27:13McCall from from my understanding.
- 27:16And I do know that some North Carolina donors have started to
- 27:19kind of poke around and see what the buyout is there.
- 27:21And look, I, I don't think Ben McCollum is going to North
- 27:24Carolina, OK. I mean, I'm not trying to
- 27:26instigate anything. I think Ben McCollum made it
- 27:29clear he wants to stay at Iowa. I would be a lot more worried
- 27:33about Ben. This is just my opinion is if
- 27:36Kansas had opened up this season because, you know, Kansas will
- 27:39probably poke around at that point in time too.
- 27:42But you know, from my understanding is Beth and Ben
- 27:45are likely going to meet early to midweek.
- 27:47And I think they'll be able to iron out some details because I
- 27:49think both sides know that they need to get done with how much
- 27:53Ben Mccollum's name is trending. I wouldn't blame him for using
- 27:56some of that as leverage to continue to get more resources
- 27:59for himself. No doubt and keep building
- 28:01things up, Help out your assistant coaches.
- 28:03There's a lot of different avenues that go into it.
- 28:05It's not just strictly about the head coach.
- 28:07There's a whole pot in this new era of NIL.
- 28:09Obviously that's a piece of it too.
- 28:11So as we get ready to descend into it starting tomorrow, point
- 28:16guard rim protecting big, I mean, is that it is maybe
- 28:20there'll be something else that pops up, but is that the two big
- 28:23ticket items that I was looking at and and how set are they
- 28:26knowing some of the names that they're going to officially be
- 28:29calling starting tomorrow? Yeah, I mean, of course, I think
- 28:32those are the two. I also think they might poke
- 28:34around for maybe a combo guard, you know, just to kind of, you
- 28:37know, maybe put Kale Combs at the one in some circumstances.
- 28:40I think we know how much that helps Bennett Sturtz, especially
- 28:43late in the season when he wasn't the one bearing all of
- 28:46that responsibility. But yeah, I think Iowa knows
- 28:49that they're going to have to shell out some big money for for
- 28:51a rim protector and they're going to need a scoring kind of
- 28:54lead guard. We know that there's a few
- 28:57targets they've probably already identified.
- 28:58I do think some things are going to be in the works, I think, and
- 29:01we'll hear about some visits probably here in the next 48
- 29:04hours or so, at least the ones that will be scheduled out.
- 29:07But it will be interesting to see what Ben McCollum and
- 29:10company want to do. Do they want to show out the
- 29:12money for an elite point guard and and kind of a meh rim
- 29:15protector or an average rim protector?
- 29:17Or do they kind of want a probably good point guard, but
- 29:20maybe not an elite point guard and then put more of those
- 29:23resources in NIL dollars toward an elite rim protector and kind
- 29:27of that elite big? Because there are some nice bigs
- 29:29in the portal right now that I think would definitely fit
- 29:32McCollum system. And I think he knows after
- 29:34watching what Michigan's been able to do during their run,
- 29:37what Illinois was able to do, what Harris Reid for Uconn's
- 29:40been able to do, absolutely unbelievable.
- 29:43So I think they know the value of having an elite kind of rim
- 29:46guy. But I'd also throw this out
- 29:48there, that Kansas Center is in the portal right now.
- 29:52I know his asking price is about four to five.
- 29:55Yeah. Really.
- 29:57That'll. Work.
- 29:58Yeah, there are some people in this camp that they're trying to
- 30:01think they could get 4 to $5,000,000 and that I'm, I'm
- 30:05saying that just from the market price so people understand what
- 30:08some of these elite bigs are going for.
- 30:10It's it's not going to be a cheap price tag.
- 30:13I thought you were going to crystal ball him.
- 30:14I was. Oh, absolutely.
- 30:16No, no, no. That price tag's a.
- 30:19Little too much. That's a little steep.
- 30:22Wouldn't that be something, a kid like that?
- 30:23He's talented, man. He could play, no doubt about
- 30:27that. What about Tavian banks?
- 30:30What, what are we hearing as far as his likelihood any any news
- 30:35out of banks? You know, I think he's kind of
- 30:38prepared that it's, it's over, quite frankly.
- 30:41I mean, I think at this point, based on everything I'm hearing,
- 30:44I'd be very surprised if if Tavion Banks, if he was given
- 30:47the waiver, if he came back, look, I think I would obviously
- 30:50take him. But it's also one of those
- 30:52things. And this is where decisions have
- 30:53to be made no matter what the percentage is.
- 30:56I mean, do you want to wait to find out if he's potentially
- 30:59back because that you're talking about, you know, withholding
- 31:02some nil resources for potential other pieces in the portal.
- 31:05You have to shift around kind of your thinking about the portal
- 31:08and all those things. I mean, as good as Banks was and
- 31:11look, Banks in that first half against Florida, I hope people
- 31:13give him enough credit. He's a big reason why Iowa beat
- 31:16Florida in that game. He's consistently one of the
- 31:19toughest guys on the floor. I think you just can't bank on
- 31:23him coming back no matter how it looks you, especially with how
- 31:27critical these next two weeks are.
- 31:29I mean, we talked about Mccollum's extension, we talked
- 31:31about the portal opening, all these things.
- 31:33I think that both sides would be open to that idea.
- 31:36And if you have to make it work, laid down the stretch, if for
- 31:39some reason he does get the waiver, you do what you can to
- 31:42make it work, but you move forward with the assumption that
- 31:45he does not return to Iowa. Any specific names, anything
- 31:48that you think is going to be connecting the dots here on the
- 31:51men's side that makes sense that you think is going to be some of
- 31:53those initial calls that are going to be made?
- 31:57So I look at a couple, I think Finley Biz Jack from Butler is
- 32:01going to be a guy, 17 points a game, probably not the best
- 32:04assist guy, but he can go out there and he can get you a
- 32:07bucket. You know, his usage rate at
- 32:09Butler was was incredibly high. Another name, look at Isaiah
- 32:12Johnson, maybe from Colorado. You talk about a guy who's a
- 32:15bucket, 17 points, 3 assists, 49% from the field, 38% from
- 32:20three. But I'll tell you one of my
- 32:22favorite guys in the portal. Now, I don't know if I was going
- 32:24to call, but this would be one of my first call.
- 32:27He's from Furman. Alex Wilkins, 6 foot, 518 points
- 32:32and five assists a game. And Furman has one of the most
- 32:35efficient and fun offenses year in, year out in college
- 32:38basketball. I think if you're talking about
- 32:39a guy that can create his own shot, a big playmaker and a guy
- 32:43who's not afraid to go challenge opposing bigs at the rim, I
- 32:46think he's the guy there. And another guy just from a
- 32:48front court perspective, Anton, I think it's I think it's Bonky
- 32:53from Charlotte. He's 7 foot yeah, 7 foot 2,
- 32:56about 11:00 and 9:00 average, and he gets about two blocks a
- 33:00game. He's got one year of
- 33:02eligibility, but you talk about from a size and athleticism
- 33:04perspective, he kind of fits Mccomb's billing.
- 33:08What about going the other way? Any Fulgaris news?
- 33:12I don't think so at the moment. I will say this, I would still
- 33:16lean he does not return to Iowa. If I had to crystal ball it, I
- 33:19mean, I'm 5545. I think both sides would like
- 33:23Dermain, Iowa City. I think he has a good
- 33:24relationship with the coaching staff and his teammates have
- 33:27obviously spoken highly of him. But we know what Fulgaris would
- 33:31get in the portal and it's one of those things to where do you
- 33:34really want to allocate those resources to a guy with respect?
- 33:38He made big plays. His his Iowa legacy is secured
- 33:40without question, right? If you want to sell out seven
- 33:44figures for a guy who was inconsistent all year, I just
- 33:48don't. I think the thing that Ben
- 33:50McCollum wants more than anything else and what makes his
- 33:52system work and his ex's and O's work, it's consistency.
- 33:57Alvaro made some big plays, but when he was bad in the matchup
- 34:01wasn't right, it just did not work out.
- 34:04And I think right now, given Iowa's roster, he'd have to play
- 34:07more of the five. And he wants to play the four.
- 34:09And you talk about how much you'd want to pay him, which
- 34:10would take money away from getting an elite dollar or or a
- 34:13true rim protector. If Alvaro's willing to take a
- 34:16little bit of a discount compared to what he's being
- 34:18offered, I think you bring him back.
- 34:21But if you're given the choice about putting those, I'm just
- 34:24throwing out a hypothetical number here, right?
- 34:26If you have a 1.3 or $1.4 million, do you want to throw it
- 34:30to Alvaro Fulgaris or do you want to throw at a rim protector
- 34:33given what's already on the roster and the log jam that that
- 34:36the shooting guard through the power forward position.
- 34:38Remember they got Trey Thompson, Ethan Harris.
- 34:41I think you will. I want to say better of our
- 34:43walk, but it might be best for both sides if it does end up
- 34:46coming into fruition. But I think he'd be welcomed
- 34:48back to Iowa City. Over to the women's side, we
- 34:51mentioned Tegan Mulaney in the portal, the unfortunate news of
- 34:54her boyfriend passing away and anticipate she's going to get
- 34:57closer to home. What about Emily Rodriguez
- 35:01still? I mean, yeah, we go back to we
- 35:03thought this thing was over in December, and here we are with
- 35:06the portal open. Is there even a sliver of hope
- 35:09that maybe Emily Rodriguez is going to be part of this team
- 35:12next year? I mean, I'm never going to say
- 35:14never, but I'd be stunned. I would too, Trent.
- 35:17I, I mean, I told you guys back in December, I was pretty
- 35:20surprised she came back for that second semester.
- 35:23I think. I know I'm not the only one of
- 35:25our colleagues that that thought that I thought she was kind of
- 35:27going to be off the team or they were going to part ways.
- 35:31But he. It's unfortunate too, because
- 35:34Emily fits so much of what Iowa was missing.
- 35:37You talk about a person who could go create her own shot.
- 35:40She can finish at the rim. Yeah, I think at a time she was
- 35:43out place defensively, but she was still learning the system.
- 35:45But from a prototype of what Iowa needs, she does fit that
- 35:49bill. And with all them that are
- 35:50already in the portal for Iowa, she would have a role.
- 35:52But I just think with the back injury, with all the other drama
- 35:56behind the scenes, and, you know, I'll say it.
- 35:58I mean, I told you guys back in December, do you know how hard
- 36:01it is to take off Jan Jensen? And even in her press
- 36:06conference, she had said one sentence about her.
- 36:08It goes like, oh, well, she's, you know, she's working her way
- 36:10back. Jan does not speak that direct
- 36:13and that short at times. That's not a character
- 36:15indictment. That's just how she kind of
- 36:17interacts with the media. I got to say, man, maybe 5% and
- 36:21I still might be pushing it a little bit too high.
- 36:23I'd be floored unless something has drastically changed here
- 36:26over the last several weeks. Who's Jen going to be looking
- 36:29at? What's their area of need?
- 36:33Yeah, I mean, I think it starts with perimeter shooting, outside
- 36:36shooters, snipers. I mean, you know, they go there
- 36:39went 6 to 42 from 3 point range in the NCAA tournament.
- 36:43But if I'm then you know what I do?
- 36:44I'd throw every dollar at possible.
- 36:46Kimura Johnson from Virginia because she she is in the portal
- 36:50and she is absolutely I think she pair alongside chit chat
- 36:55right very nicely. But obviously a name that's
- 36:57already out there and there is going to be a visit in the
- 36:59works. That's Iowa State's Kenzie Hare,
- 37:01the former Marquette sharpshooter.
- 37:04I think she would fit a very nice need for what they need.
- 37:06But again, people are going to overreact to names if they're
- 37:09rotational player and their stats.
- 37:11But I think it's important to remember, guys, they need
- 37:13probably four people out of the transfer portal.
- 37:16Like these are not going to be all impact players, but I think
- 37:20they need some elite outside shooting.
- 37:21And more importantly, I think this has been a key thing that
- 37:24Jan Jensen's teams have been missing.
- 37:26They need more players that can create their own shot.
- 37:29They just doing Lucy Olsen was the only one that was a shot
- 37:31creator on that team. Chitchat right was good this
- 37:34year. We thought Addie deals be a
- 37:36little bit farther along than she was.
- 37:38But at the end of the year, guys, the offense just came down
- 37:41to okay, wait for Ava Hayden to get post position and do the
- 37:44high low action. And that's why teams collapsed
- 37:46in the pain until Iowa had heard them from outside.
- 37:48But unfortunately for Iowa, they never heard them from outside.
- 37:52Do you anticipate taking that a step further?
- 37:55The triangle offense that they employed this year with Stalky
- 37:57made sense in the high post. Is that something that is always
- 38:00going to happen under Jan Jensen, or are we going to see
- 38:03some more evolution offensively of what they're trying to do
- 38:05depending on the kind of the pieces that they have each and
- 38:08every year? You know, I think that's always
- 38:11going to be somewhat of a staple.
- 38:12And I think when you look at the roster they have, I think it
- 38:15works because look, I love McKenna Volitsko.
- 38:17I think she's going to be an immediate impact player.
- 38:19I think she's Uber athletic. I think she's good enough
- 38:21shooter. She's going to pass her.
- 38:23She's an ideal 4 for the system. Not high, low.
- 38:25I think it's always going to work in that triangle offense.
- 38:28But I'd also point to this, it's going to work a lot better when
- 38:32you have players that can make the outside shot consistently
- 38:34because I was offense for the most part, guys, I don't think
- 38:37it was a problem. But when I know I keep pointing
- 38:39to Taylor McCabe, but I really think that that hurt things
- 38:42because her play style and her ability to stretch the offense,
- 38:45you know, the defense and and be a catalyst on the defensive end,
- 38:48the floor. It really hurt this team.
- 38:51I do think the biggest area in need of Jan Jensen's growth and
- 38:54something she's going to look very closely at this offseason
- 38:57when it comes down to getting a bucket in clutch time.
- 39:00They just always looked like they weren't ready for the
- 39:03moment. I mean, I, I think back to chit
- 39:05chat, right? That last regulation against
- 39:07Virginia. And then you think about the end
- 39:09of the first overtime when Ava got the ball with 1.5 seconds
- 39:12left and she just kind of stared and looked at the rim and didn't
- 39:15put up a shot. And she admits she thought there
- 39:17was more time on the clock than there was.
- 39:19But I think when you talk about out of balance plays, when you
- 39:22talk about end game situation, I think that's the area that
- 39:25really needs to grow more so than the actual team of the
- 39:29offense, if that makes sense. Done on basketball?
- 39:32Trick couple on football? Let's get your thoughts on where
- 39:36football is at as they go through their spring practices.
- 39:38You heard from Ference last week.
- 39:39What stuck with you? David Eichelt.
- 39:43I mean, I think Jeremy Hecklinski and Hank Brown, they
- 39:45go down to the wire about who starts.
- 39:47I think Hank Brown's more of the traditional Kirk Ference kind of
- 39:50quarterback. He's more of a pocket presence.
- 39:52He does everything very consistent according to the
- 39:54staff and the teammates. The teammates love him, but
- 39:57Jeremy Hecklinski is a guy who wants to push the ball down
- 40:00field. But the other thing that was
- 40:02really interesting to me was I asked him about Hecklinski and I
- 40:06asked him about the Drew take comparisons and his kind of
- 40:08gunslinger mentality. Kirk also brought up CJ.
- 40:13Bether in comparison with Hecklinski, not from a physical
- 40:16standpoint, but he said Jeremy Hecklinski is a guy who he'll
- 40:19make some passes, he'll force the ball to fit in ridiculously
- 40:23tight windows. He just needs to learn when to
- 40:25take those chances, when not to. But he said CJ Bether was the
- 40:28same way and he kind of mastered when to take those risks versus
- 40:32not. And I think if you're talking
- 40:34about two of the what, 4 best quarterbacks in Kirk fairness
- 40:37era and you have a guy fighting for a spot, Kirk doesn't throw
- 40:40out those kind of statements lightly.
- 40:43So I'm I'm keeping a very close eye on heck Glinski.
- 40:45The other thing is Tony Diaz I think is going to be a major
- 40:48part of this team. The way he kind of, I want to
- 40:53gushed about Tony Diaz. He made it pretty clear he was
- 40:56pretty happy. That's gushing for Ferris.
- 41:00I agree. And and my big take away too, it
- 41:02wasn't a guy that's been on campus either, somebody that has
- 41:04been there for a couple of months and have Kirk talk that
- 41:07way about a new guy that is a rarity.
- 41:10So expectations going to be through the roof again and we'll
- 41:13see if they actually throw the ball down the field.
- 41:15Are are you going to be holding your breath, David?
- 41:18Not until I see it. Then again, we guys, we all saw.
- 41:21We all saw 2 passing touchdowns from Kane McNamara in the first
- 41:25game. We saw what happened.
- 41:26After that. So we'll we'll.
- 41:28Circle back around week 6 or so and then we'll see whether.
- 41:31Good stuff, hawkeyeinsider.com, David Eichel.
- 41:34David, as always, appreciate your contribution.
- 41:37We'll talk in the weeks ahead. Thank you, David.
- 41:39Thanks guys. Take care.
- 41:40Have a good week. Yeah, you're the same David
- 41:42Eichel as we check in on Iowa. We'll come back, finish up our
- 41:46first hour of the program. Bill Seals covers Iowa State.
- 41:49He kicks off our number 2 Rob Doster field of 68 on the
- 41:52national championship and how we got there at about 1/25. 1:30
- 41:56Transplays of the Day Circus sports sponsor those Miller and
- 41:59Condon talking sports with you on the Iowa Sports Radio
- 42:02Network. I'm Hillary Condon coming up
- 42:08here with Bill Seals, Iowa State, Rob Doster on the
- 42:13national championship. Matthew Boyd has landed on the
- 42:1615 day DL, joining Kate Horton. They have that Horton news.
- 42:21That was brutal. I was watching it live when it
- 42:23happened. See him that wasn't, wasn't he
- 42:27going to end well? And Catcher very quickly knew
- 42:29that he needed help, but he was struggling.
- 42:30And anyways, we'll see where it goes.
- 42:32Apparently they thought that they had some depth.
- 42:34Javier Assad, who's had a couple of starts, First one wasn't bad,
- 42:38second one not so good. He's been called back up.
- 42:41We'll see. They are in Tampa here today.
- 42:45I opened, I got to work, logged on to Twitter with us.
- 42:49You know what I missed one time I left Anka need to get here.
- 42:51And I saw that the face of the WNBA had been traded.
- 42:54Oh really? Are we still going down this
- 42:56road? I guess we are Angel Reese, you
- 43:00know where she what her status is regardless the tweets reel,
- 43:04she was traded to Atlanta. Not sure what that means or not.
- 43:06But I know one thing and she is not the face of the WNBA as much
- 43:10as some people out there want to believe that she is.
- 43:13Your Bears are ultimately, I guess, going to be forced to
- 43:17make a decision here in the next two or three weeks as to what
- 43:20they're, where they're going to call home, where they're going
- 43:21to start, you know, putting a shovel in the ground and start
- 43:26to build their new stadium. Yeah, there was a tweet earlier
- 43:28this morning from Adam Schefter. He said the Chicago Bears will
- 43:31decide where to build their new stadium in the next few weeks.
- 43:34According to league sources, if Illinois doesn't pass
- 43:36legislation for early tonight soon, sources believe the Bears
- 43:39are likely to be Indiana. Bound.
- 43:41So I I'm about to ask you a question.
- 43:43I know you have no idea and and nor should you.
- 43:45Do you know if the Illinois legislature is still in session?
- 43:48You're asking the. Wrong.
- 43:49I knew as soon as I. Down the hall a little bit,
- 43:52maybe they could help you. Yeah, maybe so.
- 43:53Yeah, Not, not so much here. So what?
- 43:55Does it end normally? Isn't it end the round now?
- 43:58I, I mean, I guess I don't know. No, maybe it's maybe it is.
- 44:02But point being is, you said, you know, if the legislature in
- 44:05Illinois doesn't decide, well, here's hoping that they're still
- 44:08in session and they get to make that choice.
- 44:10Because it comes down to the taxes at at Arlington Heights
- 44:13and the way that things are presented at this point, Cappy
- 44:16told us months ago. In the current structure right
- 44:19now, the Rams play the pay the highest amount per year in taxes
- 44:24for their stadium. And I think he's it was either 8
- 44:26million or 12 million, one of the two.
- 44:28But it's by far the furthest and the current way that things are
- 44:31situated. If the Bears would build a
- 44:32stadium at Arlington Heights, they would pay $100 million a
- 44:35year in state tax. Jesus, a year.
- 44:37That's ridiculous, right? It's untenable.
- 44:39Yeah, absolutely. It's It's as simple as that.
- 44:42So if they get that worked out and they're going to put a lid
- 44:44on the on on the building, is it more likely that because you
- 44:47know what happens if you build a stadium, you get a Super Bowl?
- 44:50At least that's the way it's been.
- 44:52So if they build a stadium in Arlington Heights, are they more
- 44:55likely to get a Super Bowl there if they move to Indiana?
- 44:58Same. It's.
- 44:59It doesn't make a difference. I mean they gave one to
- 45:01Jacksonville for crying out loud.
- 45:03The The bear Chicago Chicago land will get.
- 45:08Super Bowl. So you the the the tourists can
- 45:10still stay in Chicago. Absolutely.
- 45:12Because I think back to when I went to the Super Bowl 50 and
- 45:15the the Niners home. It's a 45 minute drive from San
- 45:18Francisco. If you're lucky.
- 45:19If you're lucky, yes, if you're leaving time.
- 45:21Right. And depending on where you're
- 45:22staying, right, it could be an hour and a half.
- 45:24It could be two hours, depending on what part of the huge area
- 45:27that you're going to be. I think in Chicago.
- 45:29Yep, I. Mean.
- 45:30Yeah, you can stay in Bolingbrook.
- 45:31It's going to take a while. Yeah, certainly if it's in
- 45:34Indiana, it's going to take an even longer time if you're
- 45:36staying out in the western suburbs.
- 45:38Hour number two, Bill Seals on Iowa State, Rob Doster on the
- 45:42national championship. Trent will make some plays.
- 45:47Circus sports sponsor those. Hour 2 is coming up next.
- 45:50Miller and Condon talking sports with you.
- 45:52Glad you're with us on the Iowa Sports Radio Network.
