- 0:01Speaker 1: buddy TRENTP from My Carolina CBS seventeen in studio check
- 0:04Speaker 1: them out weekdays nine am. We're talking about the research
- 0:07Speaker 1: that was just released showing that parents these days are
- 0:11Speaker 1: financially supporting their kids further and further into adulthood, like
- 0:15Speaker 1: paying for their cars, rent, even groceries, cell phone bills.
- 0:19Speaker 1: Should there be like a cutoff for when parents stop
- 0:22Speaker 1: paying for their kids their bills, their day to day
- 0:26Speaker 1: expenses nine one nine eight sixe one oh five to one.
- 0:29Speaker 2: But Trent, what do you think?
- 0:30Speaker 3: I went to Dave Ramsey recently, a DPAK and I
- 0:32Speaker 3: have some life lessons to glean from money. That was incredible,
- 0:35Speaker 3: and I love Johndalone deeply, but I mean, come on
- 0:38Speaker 3: the cutoff. If you're lucky enough to get your parents
- 0:41Speaker 3: to maybe pay for your college tuition, maybe.
- 0:43Speaker 2: That twenty two year old, when you get your first job,
- 0:45Speaker 2: it's over.
- 0:45Speaker 3: Get your all your bills paid by yourself with your
- 0:49Speaker 3: first real paying job.
- 0:50Speaker 1: I mean, some kids are and I don't mean to
- 0:51Speaker 1: say some kids because we're still kids too, but they're like, hey,
- 0:54Speaker 1: it's cheaper if you're on the family plan, then it
- 0:56Speaker 1: would be for individual.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Little disclosure a good along. That's one thing I get
- 1:00Speaker 2: on to some thank you mom and dad back in take.
- 1:02Speaker 3: I'm a family plan, but everything else my car pay
- 1:05Speaker 3: with my insurance. I've been doing it since twenty two.
- 1:08Speaker 3: I've had a job since I was fifteen, and they
- 1:10Speaker 3: instilled that in me. You're gonna have to pay your
- 1:12Speaker 3: own way with all.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Do you have to pay back to your parents for
- 1:15Speaker 1: the cell phone or no. It's just kind of like
- 1:16Speaker 1: part of me in the perk of a car.
- 1:17Speaker 2: I probably should have been mo them, but I don't.
- 1:18Speaker 2: They don't have one. Yeah, they're good to be with that,
- 1:22Speaker 2: I know.
- 1:23Speaker 3: Isn't that so bad because like, oh you're saving money,
- 1:25Speaker 3: It's like, okay, well, thank you mom and dad. But
- 1:28Speaker 3: everything else, you know, really journey.
- 1:30Speaker 1: They have great family plans. And to be honest as
- 1:33Speaker 1: a mama, I will probably help my kids for as
- 1:35Speaker 1: long as they need to for the rest of their life.
- 1:38Speaker 1: So that's just how we roll nine one nine eight
- 1:40Speaker 1: six oh one oh five to one. Research shows parents
- 1:43Speaker 1: are helping their kids financially for their day to day
- 1:46Speaker 1: expenses further and further into adulthood.
- 1:48Speaker 2: Should there be a cutoff?
- 1:50Speaker 4: Do you?
- 1:50Speaker 5: And I? Five?
- 1:51Speaker 2: It's the Erica Show.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Recent research showing that parents are paying for their kids groceries, rent,
- 1:56Speaker 1: day to day expenses further and further into adulthood.
- 2:00Speaker 2: Do you think there should be a cutoff? Andrew?
- 2:02Speaker 1: Thing is?
- 2:03Speaker 5: I mean you want your own space?
- 2:04Speaker 4: I mean, don't. Nobody really wants to stay at home
- 2:06Speaker 4: with their parents. Come on, now, nobody wants to. I mean,
- 2:09Speaker 4: and nobody wants to live off their parents if they
- 2:10Speaker 4: don't have to. Now, if you've got the resources and
- 2:13Speaker 4: the ways to help their kids. Okay, but you know,
- 2:16Speaker 4: not every month, not every moth No, and don't call
- 2:19Speaker 4: me when your life was turned off.
- 2:20Speaker 6: Don't do that.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Thank you for calling. Have a good day, do you?
- 2:24Speaker 4: And five?
- 2:24Speaker 2: It's the Eraka Show. Who's this? Where are you? Conn
- 2:26Speaker 2: is from Shelby.
- 2:28Speaker 5: I live in Sanford, but I've picked up the terms
- 2:32Speaker 5: and I was, you know, listening to the radius. I
- 2:34Speaker 5: thought I would you guys a call.
- 2:36Speaker 2: I will thank you. Okay, So question for you?
- 2:38Speaker 1: How old is too old for your parents to pay
- 2:41Speaker 1: for your bills like your cell phone or maybe car insurance?
- 2:43Speaker 5: Never too old, man, if your family can help you
- 2:47Speaker 5: by all means, what do.
- 2:50Speaker 2: Your parents pay for you?
- 2:51Speaker 5: No, but y, I would definitely say yes.
- 2:57Speaker 2: So how old are you one?
- 3:00Speaker 5: I have a five year old? And by all means
- 3:03Speaker 5: in the future, I mean I don't want to condone
- 3:06Speaker 5: bad behavior or anything by all means, but there's a
- 3:09Speaker 5: lot of times in my life where it would be
- 3:11Speaker 5: helpful if somebody helped me out financially and I had
- 3:14Speaker 5: to do on my own. So, you know what, I
- 3:16Speaker 5: support people that uh have that.
- 3:19Speaker 1: Some people said they've got the old school mentality where
- 3:22Speaker 1: it's like eighteen, you're on your own. Some people are like,
- 3:24Speaker 1: it just depends on the circumstances, and then others. I've
- 3:27Speaker 1: had people calling in here They're like, Oh, I'm a
- 3:28Speaker 1: grown a adult, like fifty years old. My parents still
- 3:31Speaker 1: pay for my cell phone.
- 3:32Speaker 2: So what do you think? Texas nine one nine eight
- 3:35Speaker 2: six oh one oh five one? And how old? What's
- 3:37Speaker 2: your five year old's name?
- 3:38Speaker 5: His name is Romeo?
- 3:39Speaker 2: All right, shout out to Romeo.
- 3:41Speaker 5: All right, you take care, you have a good day.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Thank you, thank you for listening. Do you want to five?
- 3:46Speaker 2: It's thee Erica Show. We were talking about earlier.
- 3:48Speaker 1: Should there be an age cut off when you stop
- 3:51Speaker 1: paying for your adult kids, stop paying their bills because
- 3:54Speaker 1: research shows that you know, parents are paying for their
- 3:56Speaker 1: kids further into adulthood than they used to. Sarah's on
- 3:59Speaker 1: the phone, and you actually pay for your parents now.
- 4:02Speaker 6: Send here thinking about it. I admit I was thirty
- 4:05Speaker 6: four before I was like, hey, Mom, you want to
- 4:07Speaker 6: get on my bill? And she was like, yeah, I've
- 4:09Speaker 6: been kind of thinking about upgrading my phone blah blah blah.
- 4:13Speaker 2: And I was like, Mom, just.
- 4:14Speaker 6: Come get on our bill. And so, I mean, I'm
- 4:16Speaker 6: thirty five. It's only been a year, but it's it's
- 4:19Speaker 6: one of those moments where you're like, no, girl, now
- 4:22Speaker 6: I pay for that bill.
- 4:24Speaker 2: I love that though.
- 4:25Speaker 1: It's such a turning point where you're like, no, I
- 4:27Speaker 1: got the bill when it comes to dinner or whatever,
- 4:28Speaker 1: because it used to be like they would always pay
- 4:30Speaker 1: for it, and now I'm like, I got it, don't
- 4:31Speaker 1: worry about it.
- 4:32Speaker 5: And it does.
- 4:32Speaker 6: It feels so good to be like no, Like, can
- 4:35Speaker 6: I tell you what to do for a minute. This
- 4:36Speaker 6: is me, this is my money, and I'm telling you
- 4:38Speaker 6: that I got this for you. I love you. I
- 4:41Speaker 6: love that in my mid thirties, but it finally happened.
- 4:45Speaker 2: I love that. Well, that's so cool. Thank you very
