- 0:08Speaker 1: This is me eat podcast coming at you shirtless, severely,
- 0:13Speaker 1: bug bitten, and in my case, underwear listening un podcast.
- 0:18Speaker 1: You can't predict anything presented by on X. Hunt creators
- 0:22Speaker 1: are the most comprehensive digital mapping system for hunters. Download
- 0:26Speaker 1: the Hunt app from the iTunes or Google play store.
- 0:29Speaker 1: Nor where you stand with on X. Welcome back, Johnny. Hey, thanks,
- 0:36Speaker 1: I don't know, Phil, do you still have all the
- 0:39Speaker 1: JAUNTI quotes? I don't have them fired up right now.
- 0:41Speaker 1: I don't. We should just use them all the time,
- 0:43Speaker 1: even when he's here. Yeah, just have them ready to go,
- 0:45Speaker 1: just just to have him say funny things that he
- 0:48Speaker 1: would say just by sticking them in there. Yeah, I'll
- 0:51Speaker 1: fire it up next time, just to improve my podcast
- 0:54Speaker 1: performance on a regular basis. That would be a great
- 0:57Speaker 1: sentence right there, for instance, to have I'll pull that
- 0:59Speaker 1: one out. I'll put it in the bank. It'd be
- 1:02Speaker 1: fun for me if you could time it to where
- 1:04Speaker 1: Janice cuts Joannie off. Oh that'd be great. Yeah, well,
- 1:07Speaker 1: actually actually interrupts your honest this is a whole new
- 1:12Speaker 1: podcast idea. I think stop doing that. Why do we
- 1:15Speaker 1: have a bank of Yanni quotes? An assignment and missed
- 1:19Speaker 1: an episode, so I was afraid I'd miss him too much.
- 1:22Speaker 1: So Phil made twenty seven Yanni quotes and he could
- 1:27Speaker 1: just hit a button, have Yanna stay stuff, And so
- 1:29Speaker 1: Phil even set it up where you honestly had answers,
- 1:32Speaker 1: like Phil asked him how he liked Dr SEUs, how
- 1:37Speaker 1: he liked Dr SEUs, and Joanni was saying he had
- 1:39Speaker 1: to read it a few times to get it, but
- 1:41Speaker 1: he got it figured out. It was good. Uh. Yeah,
- 1:50Speaker 1: did you see the article that Mark from n SSF
- 1:54Speaker 1: sent us about. It's like, it's a funny article. It's
- 1:59Speaker 1: one of those article is this meant to be? Like, oh, brother,
- 2:02Speaker 1: what will they think of next? But there's a lawyer
- 2:06Speaker 1: Stephen Wise. That's a hell of the last name to
- 2:08Speaker 1: have Wise, especially as a lawyer. Yeah, Like I'm stuck
- 2:11Speaker 1: with like Ronella, which doesn't mean ship. This guy gets
- 2:14Speaker 1: wise Stephen Wise. He um, he spends his time. Uh,
- 2:20Speaker 1: it's kind of funny. Spends his time suing zoo's uh
- 2:26Speaker 1: suing him for illegally detaining animals. Right now, he's suing
- 2:34Speaker 1: the Bronx Zoo for illegally detaining an elephant name Happy.
- 2:38Speaker 1: It's he's it sounds like he does it like a
- 2:40Speaker 1: fair bit, but then he like loses it, but then
- 2:42Speaker 1: goes and does it again, and he brings this case
- 2:47Speaker 1: up to a judge. He he wants the elephant to
- 2:48Speaker 1: move from the bronx due to a bigger zoo, and
- 2:52Speaker 1: the judge has like a good point, and the judge says,
- 2:54Speaker 1: but wouldn't that be just like moving it to a
- 2:56Speaker 1: bigger prison. And then Stephen Wise has a wise reply
- 3:02Speaker 1: where he's like, yes, at a point, we could say
- 3:06Speaker 1: that living on earth is a prison. Oh no, good lawyer.
- 3:11Speaker 1: I don't think he's gonna get this elephant out of
- 3:13Speaker 1: that zoo. But he's you know, uh, the establishing human
- 3:18Speaker 1: rights for animals, right is the yeah, he had smart
- 3:22Speaker 1: thing where like that, um, they're having a dog taking
- 3:26Speaker 1: your dog hunting as slavery, that's right, that's right. Yeah,
- 3:31Speaker 1: I like it. But remember we had that fish case
- 3:34Speaker 1: in North Carolina where they established um, like an act
- 3:41Speaker 1: of cruelty for leaving guy abandoned his house and left
- 3:45Speaker 1: up Oscar. Fish have to fish there, and they were saying,
- 3:49Speaker 1: you can't do it to a dog, you can do
- 3:50Speaker 1: it to a fish. Yeah, exactly. But they've proven that
- 3:54Speaker 1: fish have feelings, according to science Yes podcast, I actually
- 4:01Speaker 1: heard that on Wait wait, don't tell me first. But
- 4:04Speaker 1: there's question do fish have feelings? A song? Feelings? Um,
- 4:12Speaker 1: what's the answer to the question. Yeah, yeah, listen eventually
- 4:22Speaker 1: emotional feelings. They listen. There's a these guys, I haven't
- 4:27Speaker 1: read this, read I gotta find this. Uh. They can
- 4:34Speaker 1: play the sound of water to a willow, yes, and
- 4:41Speaker 1: it will grow in the direction of this sound. We're
- 4:45Speaker 1: going to run out of ship to eat because it's
- 4:47Speaker 1: like Phil having a pretty noisy beverage. He's gotten quite
- 4:58Speaker 1: comfortable around like negative nine degrees out you got like
- 5:02Speaker 1: an ice when you got like an ice cocktail. It's
- 5:04Speaker 1: just water. He's giving you the sound of water. You
- 5:07Speaker 1: know you said the willow Thank you, Maggie Live sound design.
- 5:12Speaker 1: That was genius. Oh I just thought it would know. Um,
- 5:19Speaker 1: that was great. I was like, man, I was a
- 5:21Speaker 1: hearty sip filled his head. No, we're gonna run out
- 5:24Speaker 1: of stuff to eat because, uh, we're all gonna die.
- 5:28Speaker 1: Because if a willow here's water and grows toward it,
- 5:32Speaker 1: that makes me feel bad about eating that tree. Like
- 5:36Speaker 1: beavers should not be doing that to those Willows. Do
- 5:40Speaker 1: you remember when we're driving back from South Dakota, our
- 5:44Speaker 1: arduous journey home from South Dakota, and uh, we were
- 5:48Speaker 1: talking about how we were annoyed over some of the
- 5:51Speaker 1: vaping stuff, right, And my annoyance is that, uh, and
- 5:56Speaker 1: I have friends like this that are they joy they're
- 6:00Speaker 1: they're vaping, they're low profile, smoking, um, and they're very
- 6:05Speaker 1: healthy people and they are so annoyed over this vaping thing.
- 6:09Speaker 1: And and my vaping thing being this realization that vaping
- 6:12Speaker 1: is not good, that is not good for you. And
- 6:14Speaker 1: I'm like, and my annoyances did you really really trick
- 6:20Speaker 1: yourself into thinking that this is somehow not reasonably bad
- 6:26Speaker 1: for you but good for you? And that's like when Yeah,
- 6:32Speaker 1: the studies of like fish can feel pain. Like, how
- 6:35Speaker 1: is this an epiphany for people? Everything wants to live
- 6:41Speaker 1: for God's sake? Yeah? Uh, the guy wrote it. I
- 6:46Speaker 1: can't tell the guy he wrote in a weird uh letter.
- 6:53Speaker 1: He wrote in a letter like telling a funny story,
- 6:55Speaker 1: But I feel like he kind of revealed himself as
- 6:57Speaker 1: as an unsavory character where he said he was hunting.
- 7:03Speaker 1: He was duck hunting in the river bottoms in South Arkansas,
- 7:08Speaker 1: and this is in two thousand seven, so quite a
- 7:10Speaker 1: while ago. There was a memorable story from him, and
- 7:13Speaker 1: he shot a shot a gadwall. Later, he sees like
- 7:20Speaker 1: what he thinks is a stick in the bottom of
- 7:22Speaker 1: his boat, and he goes to throw it out, but
- 7:24Speaker 1: when he grabs a stick, he realizes the sticks connected
- 7:27Speaker 1: to the duck, and the duck has been outfitted with
- 7:30Speaker 1: a little backpack style satellite tracker. Uh and he has
- 7:38Speaker 1: a wow, that's cool moment, and the thing on there says,
- 7:42Speaker 1: if you find this thing, call there needs to be
- 7:45Speaker 1: returned to the l s U. Biology department. So he
- 7:50Speaker 1: calls him, says, hey, I got your thing now. Grant
- 7:53Speaker 1: remember this guy is telling it like it's a good story.
- 7:56Speaker 1: Calls him and says, hey, I got your thing. They
- 7:58Speaker 1: said you gotta send it to us, and he says, well,
- 8:00Speaker 1: I won't send it to you until you send me
- 8:03Speaker 1: a fake one back because I want to mount the
- 8:07Speaker 1: duck with it. Did he shoot the duck or just
- 8:11Speaker 1: found shot it? Shot it off a flock of god walls?
- 8:17Speaker 1: He said, I'll give it back to you when you
- 8:18Speaker 1: give me a fake one, because I want to mount
- 8:20Speaker 1: it with the thing. On it. They never give him
- 8:22Speaker 1: the fake one, and he's all proud of himself for
- 8:26Speaker 1: having their tracking device hanging on his wall. No one's
- 8:31Speaker 1: ever shown up to claim it. Yeah, I mean they're
- 8:34Speaker 1: not gonna like kick your they asked for it back
- 8:38Speaker 1: showing up to claim it like like asking for it back,
- 8:42Speaker 1: We're gonna send someone to kick the door down. I mean,
- 8:47Speaker 1: it's a science department at a school. It's it's not
- 8:51Speaker 1: like they have an enforcement division the school and just
- 8:56Speaker 1: giant coppers where they're like, well, just in case somebody
- 9:00Speaker 1: and say, uh, fake version of this microscope, we can
- 9:04Speaker 1: just magan one oture and then maybe give us the
- 9:09Speaker 1: real one that he stole back. I believe who is
- 9:12Speaker 1: telling us though that. Uh. Folks that shoot collared Elk
- 9:16Speaker 1: oftentimes are like, so that collar, no can I get? Oh?
- 9:23Speaker 1: Yeah right? Did you? H go on? Folks ask they'd
- 9:29Speaker 1: return the collar and then there they'd say like, hey,
- 9:33Speaker 1: I thought this was pretty neat. And I get stems
- 9:35Speaker 1: from like folks shooting banded ducks and geese so that
- 9:38Speaker 1: you know, you keep the band and you call the
- 9:40Speaker 1: number man. Yeah, um, And I think that's kind of like, well,
- 9:43Speaker 1: I shot a banded ELK. I want to keep the band.
- 9:46Speaker 1: But as we've talked about this a bunch and as
- 9:49Speaker 1: you know, and as Carmen van Bianci put it, uh,
- 9:52Speaker 1: and then she puts collars on game animals, and she's like,
- 9:55Speaker 1: once you put that collar or an animal wearing a collar,
- 10:00Speaker 1: as she says, this is a quote, someone has already
- 10:03Speaker 1: got the best of him. M M. And I was
- 10:06Speaker 1: gonna point this out. Did we talk about this, Johnnie,
- 10:11Speaker 1: that when we were hunting mule deer in uh Wolming. No,
- 10:16Speaker 1: I don't think we mentioned that. Yeah, I had two
- 10:18Speaker 1: and fifty yards away from me a little four by
- 10:21Speaker 1: four mually wearing a collar. No desire, no desire to
- 10:25Speaker 1: shoot that deer because someone had already got the best
- 10:28Speaker 1: of him. If he would have been a hundred eighties
- 10:31Speaker 1: seven and a half inches bullshit, bullshit tainted love. No,
- 10:37Speaker 1: I don't care how big it was. No, I was
- 10:45Speaker 1: waiting for you to say something, Well, you know at
- 10:47Speaker 1: that point, he's probably gonna die that winter in good story,
- 10:50Speaker 1: mean Johnie heard, Uh, there's a there's a there was
- 10:57Speaker 1: a buck. He had a name like you know, you
- 10:59Speaker 1: get bucks getting names like big huge bucks get goofy names.
- 11:03Speaker 1: This buck had a goofy name, like like Jumbo or whatever. Right,
- 11:06Speaker 1: and um, these guys were hanging out with they dubbed
- 11:10Speaker 1: the same buck. They called it the cess Ina buck.
- 11:13Speaker 1: Because a couple of years ago, like Wyoming recently made
- 11:17Speaker 1: it that you can't scout from aircraft. You can't scout
- 11:19Speaker 1: big game animals from aircraft. And it kind of came
- 11:22Speaker 1: in because they made it that you couldn't use drones, right,
- 11:24Speaker 1: so you can't scout with a drone. And then it
- 11:27Speaker 1: brings up the question where it winds up being, well,
- 11:31Speaker 1: how can you not scout with the drone, but you
- 11:33Speaker 1: can scout with the airplane. So it's like if you have,
- 11:35Speaker 1: like if you have a certain socio economic class has
- 11:39Speaker 1: to have an airplane, totally cool, have at it. But
- 11:43Speaker 1: if you're just some little scraggly dirt bag where the
- 11:46Speaker 1: drone screw you, well, like kind of what the logic
- 11:49Speaker 1: seems like? Right? So um, either way, and Wyoming got
- 11:53Speaker 1: rid of you can't scout big game out of a plane.
- 11:56Speaker 1: They said, when you could, you would in this area
- 11:59Speaker 1: where they hunt me dear, they said, every day, man,
- 12:04Speaker 1: someone's flying up looking for deer well before this law
- 12:07Speaker 1: went into effect. This guy finds this giant mule deer,
- 12:14Speaker 1: like a two forty five, and the dude took me
- 12:18Speaker 1: and showed me the avalanche shoot where they found it.
- 12:21Speaker 1: Found it an avalanche shoot, and the thing didn't budge,
- 12:25Speaker 1: and they took pictures of it, and they take it.
- 12:27Speaker 1: They take the photos to a guy. Now, this is like,
- 12:29Speaker 1: this is as told to me. I am not saying
- 12:33Speaker 1: I haven't fact checked Steve's gospel truth. I haven't fact
- 12:36Speaker 1: checked any aspect of this. This is a story as
- 12:39Speaker 1: told to me. They take, they build a little dossier
- 12:44Speaker 1: on this buck and present it to a gentleman who's like,
- 12:47Speaker 1: I like that buck so much, um, and I don't
- 12:50Speaker 1: have a tag for Whyolming, I like that buck so much,
- 12:53Speaker 1: I'm gonna buy the Wyoming Governor's tag in order to
- 12:57Speaker 1: go and shoot Jumbo the buck. The problem is he's
- 13:02Speaker 1: going to use this outfitter, and the outfiter in this
- 13:05Speaker 1: area has a why are you looking at me like this? Yeah,
- 13:09Speaker 1: I'm intently listening, that's all. Sorry, I'm intently listening. Did
- 13:15Speaker 1: you get a recording of that film? Can we put
- 13:17Speaker 1: that into the so Honestly, I want you to play
- 13:23Speaker 1: that a lot. That's why I know that he's listening. Steve.
- 13:27Speaker 1: I'm intently listening, you, jerk uh, I'm right, so far right.
- 13:34Speaker 1: This is your understanding so far so I heard the
- 13:37Speaker 1: same story. I can crab right. So he's gonna use
- 13:40Speaker 1: this outfitter and in this area outfitter has to stay.
- 13:43Speaker 1: He has the camp, he has the overnight in a
- 13:46Speaker 1: specified location. Outfitters are not allowed to spike camp, okay,
- 13:51Speaker 1: and they're not allowed to graze horses, so you gotta
- 13:53Speaker 1: take your horses back at night and feed him feed.
- 13:56Speaker 1: You can't be sleeping out. But where they find this
- 13:59Speaker 1: buck with this airplane is too far away from his
- 14:05Speaker 1: designated campsite to get the client over there. So as
- 14:12Speaker 1: told to me, they go and say they go to
- 14:15Speaker 1: the forest service and say, hey, we have a handicapped hunter,
- 14:21Speaker 1: a disabled hunter. We need an exemption from our designated
- 14:26Speaker 1: campsite thing because we have a disabled hunter who who
- 14:33Speaker 1: needs to hunt. So they're like, oh, great, go ahead
- 14:36Speaker 1: and you can spike out. So then the guy still
- 14:39Speaker 1: the this Governor's tag disabled gentleman still manages to ride
- 14:45Speaker 1: what seven miles mm hmm and and shoot the Cessina
- 14:51Speaker 1: buck As told to me. Mhm uh what else that got?
- 15:01Speaker 1: Oh call? You probably know about this. UM. I love this.
- 15:08Speaker 1: A state lawmaker in my home state of Michigan, UM
- 15:14Speaker 1: is proposing that they were they worked up this bill.
- 15:19Speaker 1: You know, they don't have like oversight. They worked up
- 15:21Speaker 1: this bill suggesting that I a Royal National Park institute
- 15:26Speaker 1: of moose hunting season because they have this exploding moose
- 15:30Speaker 1: population and uh he feels the wolves that they're they're
- 15:36Speaker 1: trying to They're flying wolves out there, hoping that the
- 15:38Speaker 1: wolves can kill all the moose, and um he's like,
- 15:41Speaker 1: while we fly a couple hunters out there, what do
- 15:43Speaker 1: you think about that? Cal kind of goes back to
- 15:45Speaker 1: your weeping for the willow preamble, right, because a big
- 15:50Speaker 1: part of this is that exploding moose population is gonna
- 15:54Speaker 1: could potentially severely damage uh plant life out there on
- 15:59Speaker 1: I Royal And that's that's uh yeah why the big
- 16:04Speaker 1: part of why the why of putting wolves out there?
- 16:08Speaker 1: Um yeah, I mean I it really flies in the
- 16:13Speaker 1: face of what a national park is supposed to be for,
- 16:16Speaker 1: does it, though? Right? I mean? Does that No? I like, personally,
- 16:21Speaker 1: I would love to see it happen. Yes, Um, but
- 16:25Speaker 1: I could see you know, it's funny. I read this
- 16:28Speaker 1: in a publication called National Parks Traveler, and I felt
- 16:32Speaker 1: that they would be a much uh stronger like that.
- 16:37Speaker 1: I felt that when I started the article, I'm like,
- 16:39Speaker 1: surely there'll be a part of this article where the author,
- 16:42Speaker 1: the writer strongly condemns this idea. Yeah, but that part
- 16:48Speaker 1: never came. Well yeah, and and maybe it's it's because
- 16:52Speaker 1: they're looking at the whole ecosystem health um, and the
- 16:56Speaker 1: fact that the wolves have not been faring well out
- 17:00Speaker 1: they're left to their own devices. Um, they put one
- 17:03Speaker 1: out there and turned up dead. But they're doing a
- 17:04Speaker 1: knee cropsy on it. Oh really um, because I know
- 17:08Speaker 1: they dropped a few off and then as soon as
- 17:10Speaker 1: the water froze up, they even though they basically had
- 17:13Speaker 1: this semi captive food source, they had tailed it for Canada. Um.
- 17:21Speaker 1: I believe that. I believe that's correct. And then but yeah, man,
- 17:26Speaker 1: I I don't know. It's it's interesting because you have,
- 17:30Speaker 1: like National Parks serve this purpose that I don't want
- 17:34Speaker 1: any other public lands or federally managed lands to serve,
- 17:40Speaker 1: which is a place where lots and lots of people
- 17:42Speaker 1: can go and there, you know, there's a lot more
- 17:47Speaker 1: rules and folks are pretty confined, and you kind of
- 17:50Speaker 1: end up with this weird amusement park type of crossover
- 17:55Speaker 1: and into like something that's supposed to be preserving a
- 17:59Speaker 1: real wild experience, a garden of Eden. This guy. So
- 18:05Speaker 1: it's in the Michigan State House and it's a resolution.
- 18:09Speaker 1: If the resolution passes, it's not binding, but the resolution
- 18:14Speaker 1: just says it's the state legislature passing a resolution where
- 18:20Speaker 1: the purpose of the resolution is to ask the park
- 18:23Speaker 1: to consider it um. The park officials there had already
- 18:30Speaker 1: ruled it out as being inconsistent with existing laws, policies,
- 18:36Speaker 1: and regulations. But the whole situation there is like inconsistent. Yes,
- 18:41Speaker 1: it's a it's an aquarium like kind of like partially
- 18:44Speaker 1: make beliefs situation. That's why I say, man, just let
- 18:48Speaker 1: us take its course. Let's see what happens. They can't
- 18:51Speaker 1: that they can't help them. They can't, I know, because
- 18:54Speaker 1: someone has an idea of what a healthy ecosystem is,
- 18:58Speaker 1: but they really can't on it. It changes all the time.
- 19:02Speaker 1: They should just let it roll because who knows it
- 19:04Speaker 1: will be like a great little experiment. What happens when
- 19:06Speaker 1: the moose eat themselves that at home? And then how
- 19:09Speaker 1: did the willows react? Did they start growing toward away
- 19:13Speaker 1: from the sound of moose who's coming through the woods?
- 19:17Speaker 1: Growing away from it? It used to be caribou and
- 19:20Speaker 1: links right, yea cariboon links up into the hundreds. It
- 19:24Speaker 1: was cariboon links and then like and I think part
- 19:29Speaker 1: of the thing to consider here too is and uh,
- 19:32Speaker 1: your your better half gen and probably be able to
- 19:36Speaker 1: talk to this a little bit, is um. You know,
- 19:40Speaker 1: they're these systems always have a bunch of research going on,
- 19:44Speaker 1: and there's probably a bunch of folks that have dedicated
- 19:47Speaker 1: funding very specifically to something out there, and they're like, well, hey,
- 19:53Speaker 1: like I'm supposed to be doing this, and you know
- 19:56Speaker 1: X y Z is happening, which is getting in the
- 19:58Speaker 1: way of that. And if we let this happen and
- 20:00Speaker 1: I'm not going to be able to do this and
- 20:02Speaker 1: my funding is supposed to be exactly for cure. Funding
- 20:06Speaker 1: is hard to come by, I know, I can tell you,
- 20:09Speaker 1: especially these days from what they hear. And I don't
- 20:11Speaker 1: know if if that's exactly case, but there's always all
- 20:14Speaker 1: sorts of factors. Yeah, what do you think about all that? Phil?
- 20:20Speaker 1: I just was thinking about, Um, you're talking about the
- 20:23Speaker 1: willow growing away. I just immediately think of Pocahontas the film.
- 20:29Speaker 1: His character named grandmother Willow. I'm sure you guys are
- 20:32Speaker 1: really into this right now. I'd love to hear more. Oh,
- 20:35Speaker 1: she's just a willow tree that gives sage advice. Yeah, yeah,
- 20:40Speaker 1: so I don't know, growing growing towards the sound of
- 20:43Speaker 1: the water. That sounds like a good idea. Do you
- 20:45Speaker 1: know Neil Young song Pocahonas. That's a hell of a song.
- 20:48Speaker 1: I don't know. Marlon Brando, you know that one? Cal No,
- 20:53Speaker 1: I don't think I do. Yeah, well, yeah it's a
- 20:55Speaker 1: good one. So uh, big news is not entirely fresh
- 21:01Speaker 1: news are Season eight is out been out Netflix, um
- 21:13Speaker 1: eight brand speak ay new episodes therefore available for streaming
- 21:17Speaker 1: right now and go watch them all. One fell swoop.
- 21:21Speaker 1: And we had a lot of questions coming about the season,
- 21:25Speaker 1: and we asked all kinds of questions about the show,
- 21:27Speaker 1: but we never like tackle them head on. So we're
- 21:28Speaker 1: gonna tackle questions about our new season like the most
- 21:32Speaker 1: pressing questions. And we had tons of how many do
- 21:36Speaker 1: we think I need to make a little plugs. I
- 21:38Speaker 1: feel like listening to this and you haven't seen all
- 21:42Speaker 1: the episodes yet? Is that possible? It is? It is
- 21:45Speaker 1: because I know somebody a big meet or fan too,
- 21:49Speaker 1: hasn't Netflix. No. James Miller, you know him. You've had
- 21:55Speaker 1: dinner at his house. Yeah, we talked about them all
- 21:59Speaker 1: the time. He's a little he's old school, right. He
- 22:01Speaker 1: still serves up a invoice that he writes on his
- 22:05Speaker 1: nineteen two typewriter. He's he's good at it. But he
- 22:11Speaker 1: has Netflix at home. The kids use Netflix, but he's
- 22:15Speaker 1: just like not willing to go over that hurdle of
- 22:19Speaker 1: figuring it out. So whatever small percentage that is. But
- 22:23Speaker 1: like I tell Jimmy, I'm gonna tell everybody else, it's
- 22:25Speaker 1: not that difficult sign up. I think Netflix is still
- 22:33Speaker 1: less than ten bucks a month? Am I right there?
- 22:36Speaker 1: I don't know. It's somewhere around ten bucks a month. No,
- 22:38Speaker 1: they make it like incredibly easy. It's like the smartest
- 22:43Speaker 1: people in the room. Man figuring out how to make
- 22:45Speaker 1: stuff easy. Running cable is harder, like direct TV. Well,
- 22:50Speaker 1: this guy tiles people's houses. He tiles luxury homes, He's like,
- 22:54Speaker 1: I can tile a luxury home, but I can't get
- 22:59Speaker 1: my TV to work. Come on, I'm just saying that
- 23:04Speaker 1: that's that small fraction of people are out there. You
- 23:07Speaker 1: know what. I want to tell them, It's easy. You
- 23:09Speaker 1: didn't do it. In my never ending quest for beaver
- 23:13Speaker 1: trapping permissions, I was out surveying no Old Feller's uh
- 23:20Speaker 1: beaver problem not too far from here at all, and
- 23:24Speaker 1: he was real curious about why I had free time
- 23:28Speaker 1: in the middle of the week. I'll be like, dude,
- 23:32Speaker 1: oh I do is work, man, It's happened right now.
- 23:33Speaker 1: I have a couple minutes ago. Take a look. But
- 23:36Speaker 1: um we got talking. I'm trying to explain what I do.
- 23:39Speaker 1: And Ben, I'm like, well, you know like Netflix. It's like, dude,
- 23:44Speaker 1: that's great, man. I hope you never found out. And
- 23:49Speaker 1: he tells he goes and you know, I did watch
- 23:51Speaker 1: a video once on that YouTube that's the same guys like,
- 23:58Speaker 1: so you uh see a fiddle with your phone there?
- 24:02Speaker 1: You call that work? Do you like? Uh? Yeah, yeah
- 24:07Speaker 1: I do. I had. I was at the Museum the
- 24:10Speaker 1: Rockies last night. You like to go to that little thing? Yeah,
- 24:14Speaker 1: because you get like a free beer and learn about something. Well, yeah,
- 24:17Speaker 1: it's the learning about something. And what's great is, um,
- 24:20Speaker 1: you can just go check out the museum without paying
- 24:25Speaker 1: a bunch of other folks there. You know, you pay,
- 24:27Speaker 1: it's fifteen bucks, I think, and you get three beers
- 24:31Speaker 1: and smappetite. Well the old for the appetizers shops in history?
- 24:35Speaker 1: Is that the name of the program. Yeah, it's like
- 24:37Speaker 1: bruise under the Big Sky? How often do you go
- 24:41Speaker 1: when I'm in town? It's the last Tuesday of every month.
- 24:44Speaker 1: Is it like a pickup scene down there? Um? Boy,
- 24:46Speaker 1: you'd have to really broaden your age range, like like
- 24:52Speaker 1: the median age in diction that most people don't want
- 24:55Speaker 1: to broaden. Yeah, yeah, you're looking at you know, I'm
- 24:59Speaker 1: gonna say six for ish, kind of younger than than
- 25:03Speaker 1: I typically describe it to people. But it's sweet anyway.
- 25:08Speaker 1: There's this uh Um, the curator for the paleontology department
- 25:13Speaker 1: gave a talk on extinct mammals and it's always Montana Central.
- 25:18Speaker 1: Oh yeah, you know what you sent me a thing
- 25:20Speaker 1: I have not gone. It's great trying to raise a family,
- 25:23Speaker 1: man um, and uh I had gone up like probably
- 25:31Speaker 1: every jackass does to a paleontologist. I'm like, so I
- 25:35Speaker 1: got a bone I want you to check out and
- 25:38Speaker 1: that's a rock and she yeah, and she was very nice. Uh.
- 25:43Speaker 1: And it was just really funny though, because I'm like,
- 25:46Speaker 1: did you have your famous tooth with you? Like, let
- 25:49Speaker 1: me whip this out? Um? I I had. Well, so
- 25:54Speaker 1: she studied under your buddy down at Texas A and
- 25:57Speaker 1: m Meltzer. Meltzer, Yeah, David Meltzer, and she kind of
- 26:00Speaker 1: knew that crew down there. I wouldn't go as far
- 26:02Speaker 1: as to call my body. I had to say my
- 26:04Speaker 1: hero hero yes. Um. And so that was kind of funny.
- 26:08Speaker 1: But then this guy comes up and he turns to
- 26:13Speaker 1: the paleontologist he says, hey, you did a great talk,
- 26:16Speaker 1: and then he turns to me and goes, and you
- 26:18Speaker 1: had a great season. Yeah, And I was like, I
- 26:24Speaker 1: kind of feel like an athlete of some sort. I
- 26:25Speaker 1: had a great season. Yeah. It was funny. So did
- 26:30Speaker 1: you go down there by yourself? Know that friend of
- 26:33Speaker 1: mine Andrea meet up with three down there? Yeah? Down there,
- 26:38Speaker 1: drove down former roommates, drove separate cars. Yeah. Yeah, we
- 26:43Speaker 1: dated a long time ago, and now you drive around
- 26:46Speaker 1: separate everywhere. Well, I got that out of her system. Yeah, yeah,
- 26:50Speaker 1: all the questions, you know who, we had a lot
- 26:53Speaker 1: of questions, but the three thousand plus and then but
- 26:58Speaker 1: they paired it down to thirty one. But uh, there's
- 27:03Speaker 1: some of the questions. When I was pruising them, I
- 27:06Speaker 1: found some questions that are on the I know. That's
- 27:09Speaker 1: why I said we should have done it together. You know,
- 27:12Speaker 1: like there was one like how come Uh, it's like,
- 27:15Speaker 1: how come there's curse words words? Yeah, I'm like, I'm
- 27:20Speaker 1: much surprised how few curse words are in there. Yeah,
- 27:22Speaker 1: I didn't feel like there was a lot of cursing.
- 27:24Speaker 1: I don't even know what they were talking about, but
- 27:25Speaker 1: I've heard it from numerous people. Did curl your hair
- 27:28Speaker 1: if you Yeah, it's not like we're like, it's not
- 27:31Speaker 1: like we sit around. We're like, you know what and
- 27:33Speaker 1: and uh, here here's where we'll put in a curse word. Yeah.
- 27:38Speaker 1: And what are you comparing it to Pocahonna's Grandma Willow? Yeah,
- 27:44Speaker 1: when we're on that raccoon has a foul mouth. You
- 27:48Speaker 1: know those movies like when they're watching like a I
- 27:52Speaker 1: don't know, like a like Fast and Furious or whatever,
- 27:55Speaker 1: they're like ha, this is horrible people cursing. Oh um, yeah,
- 28:03Speaker 1: I'm alta shocked how few there are. Well, I feel
- 28:06Speaker 1: like we cut a lot of we cut a lot
- 28:08Speaker 1: of them out. I feel like bad curse words we
- 28:11Speaker 1: beat m But you gotta leave the beep in there
- 28:14Speaker 1: and the beep curse word because it's it shows the
- 28:17Speaker 1: emotion that was going through the person at that moment
- 28:20Speaker 1: when Ronnie being got a chegg by that b that's right. People,
- 28:23Speaker 1: we don't we hang with I don't feel like because
- 28:28Speaker 1: they're foul people, right, They just at times when emotions
- 28:34Speaker 1: run high, they tend to use a foul word, which
- 28:37Speaker 1: I think in the proper context is okay. We don't
- 28:41Speaker 1: hang around with sailors, so to speak. No, I'm not
- 28:44Speaker 1: good at sailing. Is there a difference between what was
- 28:48Speaker 1: coming out on cable and what's coming out on Netflix?
- 28:52Speaker 1: Do you think? No? I haven't. No, I don't. I
- 28:55Speaker 1: don't think that there's any No. I don't know. I
- 28:58Speaker 1: have to go like review because I just don't think
- 29:00Speaker 1: I feel like now and then like someone will say
- 29:02Speaker 1: like whatever, someone will say some little kind of innocuous
- 29:07Speaker 1: swear word. But you know the other thing I wonder
- 29:09Speaker 1: about is like, I don't know. Um, I'm not in jail. Uh,
- 29:15Speaker 1: I grew up like I can, I'm gonna I can,
- 29:20Speaker 1: dang sure, I can, dang sure tell you that what
- 29:24Speaker 1: I when I grew up, I would I was you know,
- 29:27Speaker 1: my my father hung out with a colorful crew of
- 29:31Speaker 1: individuals and my mother would get a little mad now
- 29:34Speaker 1: and then. And I was exposed as a young child
- 29:37Speaker 1: to dirty words. And I'm not in jail. I just
- 29:44Speaker 1: don't know if that's gonna be like the end of
- 29:45Speaker 1: someone to hear right, is it gonna be? It? Is it?
- 29:50Speaker 1: Is it gonna be the end of someone to hear word?
- 29:53Speaker 1: And then their parents have to say, he just said
- 29:55Speaker 1: that word. He's older, don't say that. No, it's such
- 29:58Speaker 1: a self serving read in it. I'm gonna throw my
- 30:01Speaker 1: wife onto the bus because she's like, well, I don't
- 30:04Speaker 1: want my kids running around saying you know shit. I
- 30:08Speaker 1: heard someone else's boys say ship the other day. You know,
- 30:11Speaker 1: it's like, come on, Like, if my kids starts running
- 30:15Speaker 1: around saying it all the time, I'm gonna sit down
- 30:16Speaker 1: and have a conversation about when you say that when
- 30:19Speaker 1: you don't White kids shouldn't say it, you know, Yeah,
- 30:21Speaker 1: we have words for our kids. There's words you just
- 30:24Speaker 1: can't ever ever say. Yeah, your kids know them all,
- 30:27Speaker 1: don't they know? They don't know them all all but one.
- 30:30Speaker 1: And then there's one they don't know. They'll never know it.
- 30:34Speaker 1: So there's like words like they just hear stuff. I
- 30:36Speaker 1: mean they get they hang out with their uncle. I
- 30:38Speaker 1: don't know, they just they hear stuff. You're walking, you're
- 30:40Speaker 1: walking around at night and you trip on a matchbox
- 30:43Speaker 1: car and kids are always looking for that too, because
- 30:46Speaker 1: they're like, oh, I don't know what that word is,
- 30:48Speaker 1: so what is it? If their mom says, if I
- 30:50Speaker 1: say something is in one, you're now with the other.
- 30:51Speaker 1: If their mom says something, they just fall in love
- 30:53Speaker 1: with it. There's like something about like you know what
- 30:55Speaker 1: I mean, it does that. I just dadd it. But
- 30:57Speaker 1: their mom like trips on a matchbox car in the
- 30:59Speaker 1: middle of night, hurts her foot. That word becomes a
- 31:02Speaker 1: big part of everybody's life for a few days. They
- 31:05Speaker 1: all love it. But I'm like, there's like words you
- 31:08Speaker 1: do not like you are for I know you heard it,
- 31:11Speaker 1: never say that word. Then there's like we're explain why, right, Well,
- 31:16Speaker 1: you're get in trouble and people think you're a loser.
- 31:19Speaker 1: And then there's words were like yeah, I get it,
- 31:21Speaker 1: you can stay in the house around us, but don't
- 31:23Speaker 1: definitely don't say it at school. Well, you and I
- 31:25Speaker 1: had conversation with your oldest when we're heading out to
- 31:29Speaker 1: I think set uh crayfish traps over the summer where
- 31:33Speaker 1: it was like, yeah, well, ah, you probably shouldn't say it,
- 31:39Speaker 1: Like you gotta understand, like in certain circles, that would
- 31:42Speaker 1: be like the equivalent of you, like cutting somebody's head
- 31:47Speaker 1: off like that, right, Like you gotta It's it's hard
- 31:53Speaker 1: to like say, like so around here passable, you know
- 31:59Speaker 1: the net house over that would be like the kids
- 32:03Speaker 1: going too bad without dinner and I'm gonna get locked
- 32:06Speaker 1: up for a type of thing, right, Like how do
- 32:09Speaker 1: you explain it? Like you guys got a hard job. Yeah,
- 32:12Speaker 1: I like it. It's interesting to argue about or explain
- 32:15Speaker 1: to kids. Be like you have these things like these
- 32:17Speaker 1: words um and like we all agree that yellow like
- 32:22Speaker 1: when we look, we agree that there's a word y
- 32:24Speaker 1: E L l O W and that word represents this color.
- 32:29Speaker 1: And that's like how language functions. And you saw this
- 32:32Speaker 1: weird thing into it where there's like other words um
- 32:35Speaker 1: that we've all agreed are bad, but we use them
- 32:40Speaker 1: all the time. It's like you get into it's hard. Yeah,
- 32:44Speaker 1: sounds hard, and you're like, well, why those ones? You know,
- 32:47Speaker 1: I don't know what. We just have all agreed that
- 32:49Speaker 1: that's bad and you need to get and you need
- 32:52Speaker 1: to get on board. Sign on the dotted line. Yeah,
- 32:56Speaker 1: we step back and look at it. It's quite childish
- 33:00Speaker 1: really to have those words like homett. So I know
- 33:04Speaker 1: hundreds of words you tell me that don't say that one. No, No,
- 33:06Speaker 1: that's right, that one don't use you know what those
- 33:10Speaker 1: some what's a what's a language? Uh? Professor, researcher And
- 33:17Speaker 1: so if you get into like the sort of history
- 33:20Speaker 1: of a word, it's the etymology. I don't know if
- 33:24Speaker 1: there are etymologists, but I know linguists study um. But
- 33:30Speaker 1: I guess we just have to have them for times
- 33:33Speaker 1: of extreme whatever happenstance and emotion. That's why we have
- 33:39Speaker 1: to have those words. That's why there's some I've been
- 33:42Speaker 1: using the word naughty. That's why there's some naughty. Like
- 33:45Speaker 1: if there's naughty words in the show, I guess I
- 33:49Speaker 1: would generally rather than not be there. Uh mean, we
- 33:53Speaker 1: don't go out our way to put them in there,
- 33:54Speaker 1: but there's a lot of things that happened. They're like,
- 33:57Speaker 1: it's it's a style of filming. Um. Yeah, it's like
- 34:02Speaker 1: like verity filming. It's like a style of filming where
- 34:06Speaker 1: there's there's an artifice to it because you're putting people,
- 34:08Speaker 1: You're you're inviting people to come and hang out and
- 34:10Speaker 1: be on the show, and people are aware there's cameras
- 34:13Speaker 1: aimed at them, and it's artifice. There's uh there's a
- 34:19Speaker 1: performance taking place, but in the case of the show,
- 34:24Speaker 1: we do it like the performance is a real thing
- 34:27Speaker 1: that people actually do, meaning that what you're watching would
- 34:30Speaker 1: feasibly would feasibly be happening in the absence of cameras,
- 34:36Speaker 1: and in fact, most of people that are engaged in
- 34:38Speaker 1: it would probably almost absolutely be doing that or something
- 34:42Speaker 1: very similar in the absence of the camera. But you know,
- 34:47Speaker 1: there's cameras there, and it's not like a surprise. Everybody
- 34:50Speaker 1: knows they're they're there thirty six inches away from your
- 34:53Speaker 1: face sometimes, Like so it's a it's a it's a
- 34:57Speaker 1: distorted reality, but only slightly di started and you are
- 35:02Speaker 1: trying to capture real people in real moments and experiencing
- 35:06Speaker 1: real things and real emotions, and oftentimes you get those
- 35:11Speaker 1: in those moments come with um naughty words like naughty
- 35:16Speaker 1: or dirty. Better Maggie for the words description, dirty words,
- 35:21Speaker 1: curse words. There are dirty words that will happen, and
- 35:25Speaker 1: it would be when you weigh out, uh, like getting
- 35:30Speaker 1: rid of the moment in order to sanitize for for
- 35:35Speaker 1: people's sensitivities around language. You just kind of have this thing,
- 35:39Speaker 1: something's happened, where like that's a great moment, but that's
- 35:41Speaker 1: just too much, you know, it's too much, too much naughty,
- 35:49Speaker 1: too dirty to what's your take on the folks? Instead
- 35:52Speaker 1: of saying funing they get they say freaking. Oh man,
- 35:57Speaker 1: I would get in so much trouble when I was
- 35:58Speaker 1: a kid for that. He said, freaking. My dad hated
- 36:01Speaker 1: it because you're basically saying we've caught our older boys
- 36:04Speaker 1: saying it freaking. We're like, no, no, no no, no, it's
- 36:08Speaker 1: the same thing. I have the same person of my dad.
- 36:09Speaker 1: It's like, my dad's like, we're going to treat it
- 36:12Speaker 1: like you just said it because you're saying it, Yeah,
- 36:15Speaker 1: you're playing a game. I remember the the worst bust
- 36:21Speaker 1: that we ever really care about the kids doing it.
- 36:23Speaker 1: I want to know how you feel about like adults,
- 36:25Speaker 1: because I know some adults that have like a I say,
- 36:29Speaker 1: a clean esque so they lead a clean as you know,
- 36:33Speaker 1: path through life. And so instead of saying the real
- 36:36Speaker 1: course where they say freaking, I'm like, yeah, but I
- 36:39Speaker 1: do it, but I do it now. And then Rogan's
- 36:41Speaker 1: teased me for saying freaking and uh, and the guys,
- 36:47Speaker 1: the um the outfitters were with him wyoming. They don't
- 36:52Speaker 1: like to swear. Did you catch them saying freaking? No? No,
- 36:56Speaker 1: definitely not. Yeah, no, I told you I honor. They're
- 36:59Speaker 1: like they have like they have they speak with honor,
- 37:03Speaker 1: honorable lives and speak with honor. But they will say
- 37:05Speaker 1: like something like son of the Buck or something like that,
- 37:09Speaker 1: and I'm like, man, that's like really like a conscious
- 37:11Speaker 1: decision to like portray a conscious decision to with your
- 37:15Speaker 1: language demonstrate a ethic or you know, um, and yeah,
- 37:25Speaker 1: I'm in her. I guess I'm just interesting language. The
- 37:27Speaker 1: worst time I was really quick story because I remember
- 37:29Speaker 1: it so vividly, The worst time we got busted, Like
- 37:32Speaker 1: I think the moment when we all knew that we
- 37:35Speaker 1: all swore a lot, and our dad knew we swore
- 37:37Speaker 1: a lot. Was my brother Matt. We had a live
- 37:41Speaker 1: well like my dad. You know those things like bread racks.
- 37:45Speaker 1: If you go to a grocer store, you know that
- 37:46Speaker 1: they got that thing. You roll around and it's got
- 37:49Speaker 1: those plastic mesh shelves and you put all the loaves
- 37:52Speaker 1: of bread on there. My old man would make live
- 37:55Speaker 1: wells by getting one, two, three, six of those and
- 37:58Speaker 1: zip tieing them together and then put attaching styre foam
- 38:01Speaker 1: floats and making a hinged lid, so just be like
- 38:05Speaker 1: a like a plastic mesh box that could float around.
- 38:08Speaker 1: You tie it to the end of your dock and
- 38:09Speaker 1: you can put fishing there. And I remember we got
- 38:12Speaker 1: back from we've been fishing open night of bass season,
- 38:16Speaker 1: like going out at midnight, and we caught a bunch
- 38:18Speaker 1: of bass and threw him in the live well, and
- 38:21Speaker 1: someone didn't fasten the lid down, and I remember Matt
- 38:24Speaker 1: laying on the end of our dock, like bending over
- 38:27Speaker 1: at the waist. So he's laying on the dock but
- 38:29Speaker 1: bent over at the waist, fishing around in the live well.
- 38:34Speaker 1: Distraught about all the fish that got away, like they
- 38:37Speaker 1: someone didn't close the latch, and he's down there just
- 38:40Speaker 1: carrying on. And I look and here's the old man
- 38:42Speaker 1: coming out the dock. But also he's just like there
- 38:46Speaker 1: and it's too late, and mag can't seeks his heads
- 38:49Speaker 1: down in the live well and he's just curse like
- 38:53Speaker 1: raising hell, and my dad's coming and I can't notify
- 38:57Speaker 1: him because I'd get busted notifying him. Oh yeah, I
- 39:00Speaker 1: remember being like, oh man, now everybody just knows everything.
- 39:08Speaker 1: It's all out in the open. They will never be
- 39:11Speaker 1: the same. And of the innocence. A question for Maggie
- 39:14Speaker 1: that came up. There's two questions. My favorite people say,
- 39:17Speaker 1: what's my was My favorite episode of workout was one
- 39:19Speaker 1: of the magazine Meg and Tracy. It's the best episode,
- 39:25Speaker 1: Maggie's first turkey hunt. Screwed it up. Just watch it.
- 39:33Speaker 1: It's great. Yep, now everyone can see that I screwed
- 39:36Speaker 1: it up. Can watch it on repeat. By far, my
- 39:39Speaker 1: favorite episode. So Maggie went through hunter safety. Um. But
- 39:44Speaker 1: the episode ends and you're talking about how you wanted
- 39:46Speaker 1: to go back out, and you said you go back
- 39:48Speaker 1: out on Wednesday, and some persons like that, you go
- 39:51Speaker 1: back out on Wednesday. I unfortunately did not too much
- 39:54Speaker 1: work to do, but Yannie gotta go out. Yeah, edit
- 40:00Speaker 1: have as much work to do. Oh yeah, if you
- 40:02Speaker 1: watch the if you watch the episode we're talking about,
- 40:04Speaker 1: you know, the bird sneaky Pete. Yeah, and yeah he
- 40:07Speaker 1: went back and got my ass hand to me again.
- 40:14Speaker 1: I was I was pretty much brining his breasts as
- 40:17Speaker 1: I was sitting there in the dark. I mean I
- 40:20Speaker 1: couldn't have been definitely closer than fifty yards the tree
- 40:24Speaker 1: that I was leaning against, the tree that he was
- 40:26Speaker 1: perched in. And when you went back solo, Yeah, I
- 40:30Speaker 1: thought there was no way. And it was funny too
- 40:33Speaker 1: because I snuck in there in the dark and I
- 40:37Speaker 1: hadn't heard him gobble. I sit down, and I was
- 40:39Speaker 1: there for at least but you just knew where he'd be.
- 40:43Speaker 1: He was in the same tree man every time. So yeah,
- 40:47Speaker 1: I was going I was going for broke hero or zero.
- 40:50Speaker 1: I kind of ended up with something in between, because
- 40:52Speaker 1: I got the hero because I sat there for ten
- 40:53Speaker 1: minutes in the dark long enough to start second guessing
- 40:56Speaker 1: myself and to think, well, maybe I should try to
- 40:58Speaker 1: salvage the morning and go look for you know, trying
- 41:00Speaker 1: to strike up another gobbler, and all of a sudden gobbles.
- 41:05Speaker 1: I'm like, yeah, he's right there, you know, and I'm
- 41:09Speaker 1: here and I haven't like moved, I haven't no noise
- 41:13Speaker 1: for ten minutes, like no call and nothing. I wasn't
- 41:16Speaker 1: gonna call. I was gonna just let him fly down
- 41:18Speaker 1: in front of my gun barrel. And at that point
- 41:20Speaker 1: we were like, hey, but do you want to just
- 41:22Speaker 1: jump in the truck. It was basically over. Yeah, pretty much. Man.
- 41:26Speaker 1: I did know what strip was because we had hanging
- 41:30Speaker 1: right here in our studio, uh, our our probability thing. Yeah,
- 41:37Speaker 1: he had two landing strips that we knew of that
- 41:39Speaker 1: we knew knew that he had, you know, kind of
- 41:42Speaker 1: we never saw him actually fly down, but we he
- 41:45Speaker 1: would appear and we'd see which way he went, and
- 41:48Speaker 1: twice we watched him, so we knew he had gone
- 41:50Speaker 1: two different directions. I definitely had one. It was the
- 41:53Speaker 1: same direction that we set up Maggie and I set
- 41:55Speaker 1: up where we had him come by us. I had
- 41:57Speaker 1: set up on that same sort of general old path.
- 42:01Speaker 1: I thought I had set up kind of choked in
- 42:03Speaker 1: tight enough on him that if he went to the
- 42:06Speaker 1: other way, I would catch a glimpse of him. Well, somehow,
- 42:11Speaker 1: I don't know. I can't He didn't gobble as hard
- 42:14Speaker 1: as he had earlier in the week that morning, and
- 42:16Speaker 1: maybe got twenty gobbles off the tree, and then he
- 42:19Speaker 1: hit the ground and didn't make another peep until he
- 42:22Speaker 1: was yards away. Where did he hit the ground, like,
- 42:25Speaker 1: let's say he's at the center of the clock you're
- 42:28Speaker 1: at I don't know for sure, but somewhere between three
- 42:34Speaker 1: and nine, you know, so on the far end of
- 42:38Speaker 1: the clock. If but if he so, wouldn't work just
- 42:42Speaker 1: to lean against Sneaky Pete's tree because he pitches up
- 42:45Speaker 1: too far out. Plus, how are you going to get
- 42:48Speaker 1: in there? Because he got all day to get in there,
- 42:52Speaker 1: and when he's coming out. For a fact, Sneaky Pete
- 42:55Speaker 1: comes back to the same tree every night. Why can't
- 42:58Speaker 1: you sit with your back to the tree. You could
- 43:00Speaker 1: do that for sure. Why didn't you guys? This was
- 43:02Speaker 1: a morning hunt? Why why didn't you do that? Well,
- 43:06Speaker 1: we just about did. Why didn't you do it that
- 43:09Speaker 1: night when you went back solo? I did that. I
- 43:12Speaker 1: was a morning hunt. When you just hang out and
- 43:15Speaker 1: then because I was at work by like hunted in
- 43:20Speaker 1: for an hour and left. We did go out though
- 43:23Speaker 1: one other morning, but not sneaky Pete. Yeah, Maggie, I
- 43:27Speaker 1: went hunting turkeys and other more so you did do
- 43:30Speaker 1: a turkey return. Yeah, but we didn't even have the
- 43:32Speaker 1: same zone though. We just we just wanted locally here
- 43:34Speaker 1: in Bozeman. Nothing, nothing, not even I was very impressed with.
- 43:42Speaker 1: And I kind of want to know if this is
- 43:44Speaker 1: like this for people that watched the episode. But um,
- 43:48Speaker 1: I had bumped into Maggie earlier this week or last week.
- 43:51Speaker 1: I said, I mean, I haven't watched that yet. I
- 43:53Speaker 1: gotta watch that. And then uh watched it, and I
- 43:57Speaker 1: was amazed at like how even though I knew what
- 44:00Speaker 1: the outcome was, how I was like, shoot at like
- 44:05Speaker 1: I wanted Maggie to have that type of success so
- 44:08Speaker 1: badly that like part of my brain was still like
- 44:11Speaker 1: she can still make it happy. When we started cutting
- 44:15Speaker 1: the episode, months went by, we started calling the episode.
- 44:19Speaker 1: In the minute I finally got to watch, I wasn't
- 44:21Speaker 1: there at the moment and I was off doing my
- 44:22Speaker 1: own thing. When I got to watch the footage, I
- 44:24Speaker 1: just immediately called her for me like four times. I
- 44:27Speaker 1: was like, I just I just don't understand what what
- 44:31Speaker 1: you're thinking? I was too much thinking too much. It's frozen.
- 44:37Speaker 1: Are you gonna have you? Did you hear from people
- 44:39Speaker 1: that when the show came out? Did you hear people
- 44:41Speaker 1: you hadn't heard from in a long time? Yeah, a
- 44:43Speaker 1: lot of people from high school? And what do they
- 44:45Speaker 1: have to say? Like, what were you thinking? They were
- 44:47Speaker 1: just still No one called you a dog on you.
- 44:51Speaker 1: I think they were more like jealous of the opportunity
- 44:54Speaker 1: that I was given high schoolers tons of Minnesota. Yeah,
- 44:58Speaker 1: tons of guys from high school. I from high school
- 45:01Speaker 1: and the old flames people don't say people will say
- 45:05Speaker 1: that anymore. Well I was, I was a nerd in
- 45:08Speaker 1: high school. So is there right? Huh? Yeah? Bad val Victorian?
- 45:16Speaker 1: Is that right? Good deal? Meg? I made a lot
- 45:21Speaker 1: of friends by helping people cheat. Um, you can do
- 45:27Speaker 1: a little hunt in this fall. It's not on the
- 45:30Speaker 1: agenda right now, but I wouldn't be against it. You
- 45:34Speaker 1: don't have a single hunt planned. That's not true, because
- 45:38Speaker 1: I heard a rumor this morning about a little hunt plan.
- 45:42Speaker 1: I thought maybe with HANSI, but he already did duck camp.
- 45:47Speaker 1: I didn't know he was done. He just did it
- 45:48Speaker 1: for like a week. Oh yeah, but you don't you
- 45:51Speaker 1: just want to do like the early mornings around here. Yeah, yeah,
- 45:54Speaker 1: we didn't make that happen. Okay. I heard someone mentioned
- 46:00Speaker 1: getting you out on a little white tailed dough excursion
- 46:03Speaker 1: began this is what I heard. You're willing, but you haven't.
- 46:07Speaker 1: Like so what You're one of the people we always
- 46:09Speaker 1: hear about. There's this big conversation in this country and
- 46:13Speaker 1: in the sporting community about uh, our three and what
- 46:18Speaker 1: our three is? In and in and in and and
- 46:21Speaker 1: and and recruitment, retention, reactivation of hunters. Um my brother
- 46:28Speaker 1: is vehemently opposed to it, and and I understand where
- 46:32Speaker 1: he's coming from, Like, why would you want more people
- 46:35Speaker 1: on the woods? Sorry? Crowded? But um, you're like a
- 46:39Speaker 1: case study because the thing is you can what they
- 46:41Speaker 1: find is you can take it. You get a new hunter,
- 46:43Speaker 1: you take them out hunting, you show them a great time. Um,
- 46:47Speaker 1: but then they don't go out. They don't go out
- 46:49Speaker 1: there like, oh, that was the greatest thing I've ever seen.
- 46:51Speaker 1: I'm so glad I did it. But then they don't,
- 46:54Speaker 1: on their own volition go back out so what is
- 47:00Speaker 1: preventing you too? Busy, really busy. But I don't know.
- 47:05Speaker 1: I think like to go with other people. I still
- 47:07Speaker 1: think I have a lot to learn. You need more
- 47:10Speaker 1: and I feel like tote more confidence out there were toutelage. Yes,
- 47:14Speaker 1: but I have a lot to learn, and I go
- 47:16Speaker 1: out by myself as much as I can. Yeah. Yeah,
- 47:19Speaker 1: I don't know. Maybe I'm still intimidated by it too. Yeah.
- 47:23Speaker 1: Where do you think Meggie is in the oar threes?
- 47:26Speaker 1: Because technically she's been recruited, I mean because she bought
- 47:31Speaker 1: the license, right, it's still it's still recruitment phase. Yeah,
- 47:36Speaker 1: it's not like reactivation. It's like you went out turkey. Yeah,
- 47:42Speaker 1: she might be somewhere between recruitment and she might be
- 47:45Speaker 1: like our one point five another. Okay, go ahead and
- 47:52Speaker 1: rip one out. Question. I got a I got a
- 47:55Speaker 1: couple of saves. Man, Well, why don't you go let
- 47:57Speaker 1: me look at this list? Oh you want to take
- 47:58Speaker 1: a look at the list? I got NB one. Uh,
- 48:02Speaker 1: how do you all spend so much time together and
- 48:04Speaker 1: yet maintain such good friendship? That's a good question, but
- 48:08Speaker 1: it doesn't Uh, we don't have the problem of Um,
- 48:13Speaker 1: I don't know why you don't. We don't have the
- 48:17Speaker 1: problem with people getting of we had directed directly at
- 48:21Speaker 1: you and I when I read it, and I think
- 48:25Speaker 1: that they have a distorted view of how much time
- 48:29Speaker 1: we spend together. I spend more time with you than
- 48:32Speaker 1: I do with my wife. Come on, not quite. Yeah,
- 48:36Speaker 1: spend a lot of time together, but nuts on a dog.
- 48:41Speaker 1: I mean, look at it now. We've been trying to
- 48:43Speaker 1: have a meeting for at least a week because we
- 48:46Speaker 1: haven't been out filling it and we haven't had it.
- 48:48Speaker 1: We haven't been able to get that done. Okay, I'll
- 48:50Speaker 1: never see you, Johnnie. I don't know. We get into
- 48:54Speaker 1: we have some scuffles. Yeah, but I was gonna say
- 48:57Speaker 1: if we had the time, we'd probably we'd hang out
- 49:00Speaker 1: more because we'd go hunting and fishing together. But rise,
- 49:05Speaker 1: um to guilt ridden more. At home, we're trying to
- 49:09Speaker 1: be like how you're supposed to act. And in the
- 49:11Speaker 1: wintertime I turned into a skier and you don't know
- 49:16Speaker 1: you like ski Maggie raced growing up. It was not
- 49:20Speaker 1: an Annie's level. But um, yeah, I don't think that
- 49:24Speaker 1: it's I've never had it. Uh, We've had some disagreements
- 49:28Speaker 1: but never had uh, never had a problem. But I
- 49:32Speaker 1: think it also really it's something that like reinforced itself
- 49:35Speaker 1: because at this point, if we were going to not
- 49:37Speaker 1: get along, we have not gotten along a long time ago.
- 49:40Speaker 1: That's right, But there's something to be said that, like
- 49:44Speaker 1: a huge part of this job is communication too, and
- 49:49Speaker 1: you guys are practiced skilled communicators, so and that's just
- 49:56Speaker 1: not something a lot of folks are good at and obviously,
- 50:01Speaker 1: oh you guys probably aren't good at it twenty four
- 50:04Speaker 1: hours a day. You mean, the ability to always be like,
- 50:06Speaker 1: here's what I'm thinking. Here's what I'm thinking. I understand
- 50:09Speaker 1: where you're coming from, but here's what I'm thinking. Let
- 50:11Speaker 1: me explain this again. This is yeah, right, not a
- 50:14Speaker 1: whole lot of tongue biting. Yeah yeah, that's actually probably. Um,
- 50:20Speaker 1: the lack of tongue biting can burn I probably can
- 50:23Speaker 1: burn things out, but I think it's like done in
- 50:26Speaker 1: the right way with a certain level of maturity. Um,
- 50:30Speaker 1: a lack of tongue biting is probably good. Absolutely, I
- 50:34Speaker 1: would agree a hundred percent. Maggie's very good at this.
- 50:39Speaker 1: She lack of tongue biting. Yeah, yeah, because you I
- 50:44Speaker 1: said something to Maggie. UM, and she immediately clarified, like, hey,
- 50:51Speaker 1: you you said this to me. This is like a
- 50:53Speaker 1: five minute time lapse. Is this what you intended by that?
- 50:58Speaker 1: And I was like, oh god, no, I was like
- 51:00Speaker 1: I was just joking around and really yeah. And and
- 51:04Speaker 1: in turn, I said, hey, thank you very much for
- 51:08Speaker 1: for you know, following up on that, because that would
- 51:10Speaker 1: have been that rather than spending all week thinking you
- 51:13Speaker 1: meant something, you said something that you didn't say for
- 51:15Speaker 1: months for some people. Right. And then it's like, well
- 51:17Speaker 1: Ryan thinks this, Well, thanks very I think that's part
- 51:24Speaker 1: of just my job too. Yeah, let one rip, Ronnie Man,
- 51:30Speaker 1: you got one, I know, you gotta go. You want
- 51:31Speaker 1: to pick one out? Do one? Then you can pick
- 51:37Speaker 1: one out. In the Blue Mountain Bugle episode, which is
- 51:41Speaker 1: the Archery Elk episode in Washington, Um, we lost some
- 51:46Speaker 1: of that elk me in this uh fellow road in
- 51:50Speaker 1: Can I say their Instagram handle? No? I would. I
- 51:54Speaker 1: kind of like his. I like it too. How much
- 51:59Speaker 1: meat did you love? Is from that elk? And how
- 52:03Speaker 1: do you decipher between good and spoiled meat? That's a
- 52:07Speaker 1: great question because it's hard to do. And I had
- 52:09Speaker 1: now in hindsight, and we spent a lot of time
- 52:12Speaker 1: farting around with it. Yeah, in hindsight, I feel that
- 52:14Speaker 1: I was, Um, I'm trying to think. I don't know
- 52:20Speaker 1: if it be I was gonna say that I was
- 52:21Speaker 1: too conservative or too liberal, but I don't know which
- 52:23Speaker 1: how we will apply here in hindsight, Um, I was
- 52:29Speaker 1: thinking things were closer to bad than they were because
- 52:35Speaker 1: nothing I've pulled out of my freezer and thought, whatever,
- 52:38Speaker 1: that smells like a smell of souring flesh, and once
- 52:43Speaker 1: it gets in your nose, it's like trapped in your
- 52:45Speaker 1: nose for a long time. I think, And I think
- 52:47Speaker 1: that you start psyching yourself out and you're thinking that
- 52:49Speaker 1: everything right. You can't get like a clean you can't
- 52:53Speaker 1: almost get like a clean palate. So thoughts of out
- 52:57Speaker 1: of my freezing now, I thought out and like smells
- 53:00Speaker 1: smells like elk, Yeah, but smell any other way. Well, No,
- 53:07Speaker 1: remember that morning we were I don't know if it
- 53:09Speaker 1: was maybe it was the afternoon, and it was the
- 53:12Speaker 1: afternoon before that, our last afternoon they after we had
- 53:16Speaker 1: packed it out, we were taking chunks of meat off
- 53:20Speaker 1: a certain areas that were questionable and cooking them yeah,
- 53:25Speaker 1: and doing a little just fried in the pan will
- 53:27Speaker 1: catch up on the side. I took some pictures of
- 53:30Speaker 1: that taste testing. Yeah, because you can get like some
- 53:34Speaker 1: iridescent meat coloration, right, just like even at home, we're
- 53:39Speaker 1: kind of you can see it in the meat counter
- 53:42Speaker 1: now then yeah, yeah, I don't think there's anything wrong
- 53:44Speaker 1: with iridescence. It doesn't mean that it's getting fresh. It
- 53:49Speaker 1: doesn't you're a desk on the carcass. Yeah, but yeah,
- 53:55Speaker 1: so it's hard to like, yeah, just do a visual inspection.
- 54:01Speaker 1: And obviously the nose can give you away. The one
- 54:05Speaker 1: big game animal that I've got where it was just
- 54:09Speaker 1: you couldn't do anything with it. Um, we did, like
- 54:14Speaker 1: the smell thing was just getting overwhelming, and we would
- 54:18Speaker 1: cook pieces of it and butter and then go out.
- 54:22Speaker 1: We're like processing it in the kitchen, cook pieces and
- 54:25Speaker 1: buttered and go outside to just get in the total
- 54:29Speaker 1: fresh air and then taste it. And everybody you're like, god,
- 54:37Speaker 1: it is not like we were, like, it is not
- 54:39Speaker 1: in my imagination, man, It is rank that bull I
- 54:45Speaker 1: lost in New Mexico this year. I started cutting the
- 54:49Speaker 1: thing open, and um, the bile was coming up through
- 54:57Speaker 1: the ham m m really yes, Like it was swelled
- 55:03Speaker 1: up so badly that the height it like lifted off
- 55:08Speaker 1: of the face and everything. But I was like, well,
- 55:13Speaker 1: because it was less than twenty four hours, and I
- 55:16Speaker 1: was like, well, the if something's gonna be good, it's
- 55:19Speaker 1: gonna be it's got to be like the top of
- 55:21Speaker 1: this backstrap because it's not underneath the weight of the elk.
- 55:24Speaker 1: And then when it'd gotten like the full effect of
- 55:26Speaker 1: the sun and and yeah, man, I peeled that hide
- 55:30Speaker 1: back and and like bile was coming up like impossibly,
- 55:35Speaker 1: it seemed through the meat. H Uh. I wanna give
- 55:40Speaker 1: this a cleaner answer. Lost more meat than I'd would
- 55:43Speaker 1: ever want to have happened again, like top chunks of
- 55:46Speaker 1: the back, hams, anything around the ball, joint um, tenderloins.
- 55:52Speaker 1: It's like some of the like the part the on
- 55:54Speaker 1: the downside, part of the animal, like the like the
- 55:58Speaker 1: heavy part of the shoulder, A lot of stuff. I mean,
- 56:01Speaker 1: some of the knack um, but certainly not. But I
- 56:07Speaker 1: mean it's like it was felt like a real disaster
- 56:10Speaker 1: to me. Yeah, I mean, just who wants to remember
- 56:14Speaker 1: one time losing uh, killing the bull one night with
- 56:19Speaker 1: my bro and I don't know why we thought I
- 56:21Speaker 1: was gonna get cold that night, and we were afraid
- 56:23Speaker 1: to open it up because of grizzly bears. And we're like,
- 56:26Speaker 1: let's just gonna sleep for a little bit and come
- 56:28Speaker 1: back right at daybreak. And we had lost just handfuls
- 56:31Speaker 1: of meat from around the ball joints on the back
- 56:34Speaker 1: legs and being like, man, I'll never have that happen again,
- 56:37Speaker 1: And it happened again. But in terms of like the testing,
- 56:40Speaker 1: I think there's I guess it's like there's there's three things.
- 56:46Speaker 1: Some of it like the bull I'm talking about that
- 56:48Speaker 1: lost my brother when we didn't want to guts we
- 56:50Speaker 1: didn't want bears to find it or to decrease whatever
- 56:53Speaker 1: percent decrease the chances of a bear finding by not
- 56:56Speaker 1: gutting it um and just not know, not want to
- 57:00Speaker 1: be out there all night massing with it, just being
- 57:02Speaker 1: dumb and lazy. Uh. Color greenish blue, like greenish blue
- 57:09Speaker 1: color you can get like meat will sour and will
- 57:11Speaker 1: get a color to it, and you know what you're
- 57:13Speaker 1: looking at when you see it, you buy that yeah smell.
- 57:17Speaker 1: And then finally the I guess the only the one
- 57:20Speaker 1: that the only one that really matters is taste, and
- 57:22Speaker 1: so sometimes you'll see it it'll be green greenish blue
- 57:25Speaker 1: and have a bruised look to it. That's souring. And
- 57:28Speaker 1: then the smell is just it smells like what you
- 57:30Speaker 1: think it smells like. It smells like something that's starting
- 57:32Speaker 1: to rot. And the taste'll start to get slimier too. Yeah,
- 57:36Speaker 1: that's a good point. Very soft rotten meat is soft.
- 57:43Speaker 1: You can you can put a finger into it. You
- 57:45Speaker 1: can run a finger into rotten meat. Yeah, if you've
- 57:48Speaker 1: I've been thinking about that lates. I've been doing some butchering,
- 57:51Speaker 1: and you can definitely. Um, just when I start handling
- 57:56Speaker 1: the meat, I'm thinking to myself, this is gonna be
- 57:59Speaker 1: tender or this is not gonna be tender eating And
- 58:02Speaker 1: certainly the longer it hangs, the more it gets that. Yeah,
- 58:06Speaker 1: because you can get or I have messing around with aging,
- 58:11Speaker 1: you get that enzyme layer. It's kind of like, all
- 58:16Speaker 1: of a sudden, you have an extra layer of liquid
- 58:18Speaker 1: on the meat that wasn't there before. Um, that's a
- 58:22Speaker 1: that's real roll of the dice. It's like, you know,
- 58:24Speaker 1: you gotta do something with it right then. But yeah,
- 58:28Speaker 1: oddly enough, never lost anything doing that that's some tender
- 58:31Speaker 1: meat you got when you want to rip out now, Maggie, Yeah,
- 58:35Speaker 1: just because you know I'm part of the production team.
- 58:37Speaker 1: What's the hardest part of hunting with a large production team?
- 58:41Speaker 1: Does it ever play a role on how many chances
- 58:43Speaker 1: you had with animals? There's some things you gain, some things.
- 58:49Speaker 1: There's some things you gained you things you lose alto.
- 58:51Speaker 1: Don't think our team after being out there is that big.
- 58:54Speaker 1: I mean you guys really go you know, small team
- 58:59Speaker 1: well when you comparative being by yourself for people's a
- 59:02Speaker 1: lot or whatever. There's things you gain and things you lose. Um,
- 59:10Speaker 1: the extra eyeballs are absolutely nice, especially when you're just
- 59:14Speaker 1: having like a big old glass in session on top
- 59:16Speaker 1: of a hill and you're not spooking anything anyways, you're
- 59:19Speaker 1: just looking. It's like the extra eyeballs. It's great. And
- 59:24Speaker 1: we have some camera guys that even bring their own binoculars.
- 59:26Speaker 1: There's nothing to do. They like to glass. They just
- 59:28Speaker 1: think it's fun to glass. And yeah, you pick up
- 59:30Speaker 1: They pick up a lot of stuff, so you're seeing
- 59:32Speaker 1: a lot more stuff up close. It's just harder. Water
- 59:36Speaker 1: foul is just harder. It's just harder. Um, all in all,
- 59:45Speaker 1: it's it's definitely not beneficial all in all, but um,
- 59:50Speaker 1: you know the extra eyeballs is interesting. Mhm uh. But yeah,
- 59:54Speaker 1: up close stuff is can be tough. Yeah, And um,
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: there's a tendency. I think the on camera people have
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: a tendency to want to blame everything on the camera people.
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: That's the first place I go. Someone did something like
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: I never speak anything. It's always he's ever with me,
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: right uh. And and there's a spirited there's a there's
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: a there's like a spirited friendly tension um that goes
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: on where you're paying people to do a job, and
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: their job is to film stuff, and they need to
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: film the stuff, and so there a good camera guy
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: um is willing to take whatever abuse they need to
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: take to like respectfully get the coverage they need to get.
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: On the other hand, from my perspective, I'm like, I'm
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: interested in making a good show. A thing that will
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: help us have a good show is having some action.
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: You're preventing us from having a good show, yes, by
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: fidgeting around too much, but it never comes to blows.
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: I'd be curious your honest's perspective on it. I don't
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: know if I have much to add. Thank you pretty
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: much at the nail and head there. Um Ducks is
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: tough play a role in how many chance you had
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: with the animals. I really like um that. You know, you're,
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: like you said, you're paying people to round a camera
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: and the people that run cameras part of what they're
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: doing is always looking for like pretty things and interesting things.
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: And I feel like that's it's just I I enjoy
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: being in the woods with people who are like, it's
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: not a big giant bow elk, but it's just like
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: a really cool, you know, lin covered rock, or you know,
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: all sorts of little detail things that are really cool
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: that make up a good experience in the woods. And
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: and I always like that. But there are always those
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: times where you're like, yeah, I wouldn't have been moving
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: right there, but it took us a long time to
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: get over here. It's it. We put a lot of
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: pressure on him. It's a tough job because if they
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: don't get the shot in the field because they were
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: sitting behind you, because all the hunters never want the
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: camera guys to get out in front of them for
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: obvious reasons, you know they're gonna break the skyline before
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: you do, they're not gonna be looking etcetera, etcetera. Um.
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: But then when we get back and you're in the
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: editing studio, like, where's the shot? How come there's no
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: shots of me walking out the camera? It's like, well,
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: dumb mass because you were yelling to stay behind and
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: stay low the whole time, you know. So it doesn't
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: make for a fun edit or interesting at it either.
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: But it's just behind the good the good guys, the good,
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: really good ones. They know it so well and they've
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: been out so much that they know, like you're going
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: up a hill and they'll know if they want to
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: get out front to get a walking towards shot. They're
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: like reading the landscape all the time and they know
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: that like at the top of the hill, they're gonna
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: shoot me if I crest over the top of the
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: hill before they get there, and so they'll like run
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: out and get their shots. And they're kind of like
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: watching the top of the hill thing because then they
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: know at the top of the hill they better be
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: back behind you in case you crest over and see something.
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: And they start to it's fun when I can't when
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: you get someone who's so so schooled in it that
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: they're that they're doing all that in their head. You know,
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: they know like when you get up to spot and
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: you first sit down the glass, they know to hold tight.
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: Then you kind of like get a good look around.
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: You know, it's nothing immediately around. They'll get up and
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: do what they gotta do and and then it's fun.
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: You know. Then the tension levels go way down when
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: they really know the situation. But we don't have camera
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: guys that come We don't work with camera guys that
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: really come out of a hunting background. That's a tough
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: thing to find. Yeah, I would ride of someone that
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: knows how to film more than those how to hunt.
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: I think it's probably easier to learn. You've come around then, yeah, slowly,
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: begrudgingly I have. I have. I mean it'd be great both,
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: but yeah, but grudgingly I have because it's just the one,
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: like no one which shooters just work the best, right,
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: you know, the shooters we have that are just like such.
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: We have a bunch of great shooters, but the shooters
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: we have that are just really special ones that are
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: kind of like part of the family. They didn't come
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: out of that m hm. You know they always have
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: lens cloths. That's great. Yeah, when my binoculars get messed up,
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: like Leah, they know how to keep stuff dry. How
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: much scouting goes into each of the new locations you hunt, man,
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: it's that's a weird. While I try to answer this
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: one quickly because I feel like we talked about it,
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: so we go to we're always filming in new places.
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: We're rarely filming in a place that we hang out
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: a whole bunch. But we have fashionally over the years
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: developed such a network of contacts and can kind of
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: really like find anyone anywhere within two or three phone calls.
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: Usually that it's we don't scout the way most people
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: are forced to scout. We like a lot of people
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: to scout, like the old fashioned way, like map breeding,
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: you know, looking at airal images, which we do. But
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: a lot of our stuff, just as we know so
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: many people and are well connected, that a lot of
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: our scouting is people being like, yea, I'm at a
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: hunting it two years ago, and you should check this out,
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: check that out, check this out, check that out. Um,
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: we just have a different scouting method. Yeah, as far
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: as species go, we don't really dive into deep because
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: usually well, I don't know. I think we like learning
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: kind of on the go while we're there, and it
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: makes for interesting content when we're learning while we're filming,
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: right because you can then kind of sort of take
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: the view along with you through that ride about what
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: you're learning, whether it's about the landscape or the animals. Um.
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: But I think sometimes it can hurt us too when
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: you get like one, we have a busy schedule, so
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: it's not like we have one big hunt lined up
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: and I'm gonna I'm gonna research it all summer long
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: and go and scout at one time during the summer
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: and get ready for it. We have a bunch of
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: hunts going on. So sometimes I feel like it hurts
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: because we're just not doing as much research as we could.
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: It's we're a little bit flying through the night and uh,
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: you know, getting some hot tips from some guys and
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: just hitting the ground going, you know. And it's fine
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: when we have a great time and we have success
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: and we get it done. But I think that if
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: you you know, put ten times more effort into the
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: research and scouting, we would do better. You know, a
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: good example of one we talked about would be Um
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: where we filmed, where we filmed started out film him
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: in the Turkey episode that you, Maggie, Um and Tracy
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: were in. Is one of the guys we worked with
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: had heard some birds gobbling right where we started, but
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: then it took five minutes to realize that that's not happening.
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: And then any sort of like quote unquote scouting that
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: we had done was basically someone saying, hey, there were
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: some birds here whatever last spring or the spring before,
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: they were ripping right here, and they weren't there. And
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: then from then on we were just off to the races,
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: running around, flying by the seat of your pants, figuring
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: it out. Kelly, got any faiths Um? I mean, there's
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: there's a lot of good stuff on there, but I
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: feel like we kind of hit some of it often.
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: But you don't have one killing. I don't have one.
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: You have there ever been someone someone asked this question?
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: This is a good question. Have there ever been any
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: planned episode hunts that have turned out so bad they
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: never aired? I like that question too. The answer is yes, yes.
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: Next question one or one one for sure, kind of
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: two one for sure kind of too. So we want
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: to be using a fair bit of one once. Uh
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: you answer refreshment, well, not refreshed. I know which ones
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: I think you're talking about. We did. We we one
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: time did sort of this like homage to mule Deer
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: long ago and told from an ill fated mule Deer
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: hunt pulled footage. But yeah, we've done a hundred and
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: twenty some episodes now something like that. Yeah, and the
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: only one that actually that we just fully didn't use
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: was the bear Hunt, right, yeah, twenty some episodes and
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: there's one time. There's one thing we didn't use. One
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: of my proudest I think sort of I don't know
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: if it's in a acomplishment. I guess it could be
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: an accomplishment, but as a producer of the show is
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: that we went to do another episode of Sooty Grouse
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: with Barbara a second time around, and it wasn't until
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: some point, at some point during that episode, we started thinking,
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: you know what, we might have a pretty good prequel
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: to this. We should look at that footage that we
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: think is so bad that there and there is no
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: episode there. And we went and looked at it, and
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: we said, you know what, there is an an episode
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: here and it will be a great prequel to the
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: one with Barbara and so were. I'm proud to have
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: resurrected one that was in the camp. We're not in
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: the camp. How would you say it was in the cards?
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: Just chopped. So someone's wondering one hunting out of state
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: or out of the country, Let's just keep it to
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: out of state. What are the logistics when traveling with
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: the meat and firearms? Firearms are easy, easy to travel with. Uh,
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: it's just easy. You take your ammunition. Your ammunition has
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: to be in a box designed to hold ammunition. It's
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: best is to carry your ammunition around in the box
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: that you bought it in. But if you're a handloader
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: or whatever and you use those little plastic what's that
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: company MGM, not MGM M, t M MTM case whatever
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: the hell? You keep your ammo in a box designed
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: to hold ammo and slap a label on it make
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: it obvious it's ammo. Yeah, Like, you're probably going to
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: run into some issues if, for some odd reason you
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: had a bunch of thirty six rounds jammed inside a
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: toothpaste to or Yeah, no, no, no, that would be illegal. Yep, Yeah,
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: they're gonna probably question you like, oh no, it's in
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: a box. It's in my travel tooth paste box. They'll
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: not like that. Has Yeah, this box made designed for
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: carrying ammunition. That's a good point. I'm not following that.
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: If you just had a box, you think it's great
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: for carrying ammo, but it wasn't like an AMMO box. No,
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: it stays specifically, it's got to be designed to carry ammunitions.
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: That can't be a toothpaste box. Yeah, And I was
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: thinking along the path of why would somebody make that
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: point specifically. It's probably because I said in a box, Um,
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: that can go well, I think in your regular Duffel
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: bag yep, or or in your case. But that being said,
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: all these things that we're going to talk about now,
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: you should. It depends. It's not so much a T
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: s A. They have some rules too, but the separate
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: airlines have separate rules. So before you fly, you should
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: just go to their web page look up traveling. But
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: I'm gonna tell people how to do it, and tell
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: people right now, and you're gonna you're gonna try to
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: cloud it by talking about what am I gonna try
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: to cloud because yes, with some airlines you're allowed to
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: put your AMMO in the case, but oftentimes the people
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: at the counter don't know the rules and that puzzles them.
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: I always print out the page on the airline website.
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: I was building this up as how easy it was,
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: and all everybody's doing is making it seem hard. Well,
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: just okay, go ahead, Air Canada, man, they are the worst.
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: That's why I say we're going to keep it to
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: travel within the country. But I always just print out
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: the page and I say, I was like, hey, I
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: will do whatever you guys want to make this process easier.
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: But this is what your airline says to do. Here
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: is that they print out from from your website. I've
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: I've had to do that in the past. Is refer
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: someone to their own policy? Yes, Can I just do
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: it in a very nice way? Can I get back
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: to tell how easy it is a fail safe way.
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: A box or two of AAML. I can't have more
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: than seven pounds of it. You gotta get you can't
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: have more. This is per airline. You can't have more
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: than eleven which is which, trust me, is a lot
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: of a box or two of amel in the box
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: you bought it in and put that in your deffel bag.
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: Put your deffel bag. Don't just put it in there,
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: however you wanna put it in there. And you take
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: your firearm and you get a case and your firearms unloaded,
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: and you don't have anything else in the case, and
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: you just have a gun case. It's a hard sided
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: lockable gun case. And you have a t s a
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: lock or a padlock for every lock spot on the case.
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: Meaning if there's four padlock holes four padlocks, that's why
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: you want to buy a two padlock hole hard case.
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: You get a two padlock whole hard case. I use
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: bot and Pelican. Put your padlocks on there. You walk in,
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: you say, I have two bags, a check one of
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: what this is the language I always use, one of
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: which is a firearm. They will then handle all the
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: declaration that says I do hereby swear my gun's empty.
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: You sign it, you put it in there. They either
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: put it on the belt or they have you taken
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: over to the excess baggage place and you hang tight
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: because someone's gonna inspect it. They inspect it, make sure
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: it's not pack full of bombs, and then you go
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: on your way. And when you go to pick it up.
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: It doesn't come out in the luggage carousel used to
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: not too long ago, but now it will come out
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: in the special bag, like where you go to file
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: a claim. When you they lose your bags, they'll hold it.
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: You go and show them your I d they hand
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: your things. Sometimes I put a big zip tie around
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: the box. Nothing to it. It's supposed to all put
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: a big Giants title on it. Man, that sounds easy,
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: Steve Dude. Easy Now with meat, Man, We've done a
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: hundred things. I'm gonna try to give the most typical way,
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: the most typical best way to do it. You go
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: off some other place, you go out of state. Let's
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: say you go to Maryland and you get to seek
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: a deer and you want to bring it home. Um now,
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: maybe I don't know, maybe your uncle has a processing shop. Whatever.
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: I'm just talking about, like normal, just normal, how we
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: would do it. We would get our dear, bone it
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: out and leave it in big primary cuts, so like
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: bone the thing out, put it in gallon size ziplocks,
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: and in the perfect world, put a good freeze on it,
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: or some freeze on it. Get a cold put a
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: freeze on it. Whatever you do and then load it
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: into uh Yetie hoppers. Forties were great forties no longer
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: made the thirties because of Yetie hopper. You're allowed to
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: check fifty pounds per box. If you have a big
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: like a big hard sided cooler, you're eating up your
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: poundage with the cooler, but with the hoppers. The hoppers
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: weigh six seven pounds, so when you check fifty pounds,
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: you're actually legit. You're checking forty three pounds of boneless
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: meat and only seven pounds is the cooler. So we
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: zip it into hoppers um and fly home. And then
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: when you get home, thrown in the freezer, or if
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: you got time, sorted out and package at all how
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: you want it. But if not, if we're leaving again
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: on another hunt, we'll take those gallons size zip blocks,
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: put them in a freezer, and then in the winter,
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: when you get time, pull them back out, let him
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: fall enough to break them apart, trim them whatever you
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: want to do, get him recipe ready, and then go
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: back in the freezer. And people would be like, they'll
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: make this sound that I often they'll make a sound
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: like the dude, the dude, you can't freeze it and
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: then thought and refreeze it the due. You just hear
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: this person on Instagram in the comment section. It's like,
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: yes you can, Yes you can. And the reason I
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: know you can is because I have eaten literally thousands
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: of pounds of meat that was frozen and then thought
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: and refrozen and I'm still here, not in jail. What
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: is the reason? Someone leave that comment, like what is this?
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: It's just one of the things that people. You got
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: your you got your people that don't know. M okay,
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: you got your people that don't know and they just
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: think you can't because of sanitation whatever. Then you got
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: you're like people who are like Joe wild game mm hm,
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: even a lot more Joe. But you've got people who
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: are Joe wild game and they're like, well, no, I
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: actually can't because of the moisture loss and because the
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: food temperature stuff. Yes you can, you can, because we
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: do it all the time and we're all fine. The
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: other thing that I want to throw in here is,
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: and I hear this often, if you want, if that
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: meat is near and dear to you and you want
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: to take it home, it can be done. Don't let
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: anybody weary you're at tell you that oh no. Yeah,
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: Like sometimes it takes stand up all night and getting
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: things really separated to get them cooled down to an
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: appropriate temperature, but it can be done. I hear horror
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: stories about outfitters really going out of their way to
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: discourage clients wanting to bring their game home because it
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: just adds to the stuff they have to deal with. Yes, yeah, bad.
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: I one time was flying out of I can't remember
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: what airport in Florida it was back is Jeff Blue
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: still an airline. They were telling me that it was
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: like Palm Beach or something. They're saying that we have
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: a policy that no one can fly with fish. I'm like,
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: that cannot be true. Jeff Lewis telling you that one time.
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: And I raised a big stinking and let me check it.
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: But someone at the conner try to tell me that
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: you can't fly fish, but you can't fly with fish,
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: and they back down, but just flippingly, like just to
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: just to get rid of the half and to deal
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: with it. Can't flay off fish. Yeah yeah, And I,
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: um yeah, I've had kind of similar experiences where it's
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: like where you start beating them up a little bit
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: just by asking politely. Have a bunch of different questions,
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: and it comes down to, like, let me get the
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: form out Alaska Airlines, that's a fish from hunting friendly airline. Man,
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: if you don't have fish, you don't fly and catch
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: Candlelaska Airlines they take your fishing game and go put
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: in the freezer while uh, it goes from the baggage
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: counter into a freezer and then it goes from the
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: freezer a round of the plane when it's time. Do
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: they take fishing game? Serious? Mate? Do you want to
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: make the point though that I personally believe of the
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: opinion that the meat does not have to be frozen.
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: A good chill cold is good, But as long as
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: it wasn't radiating heat, I would put it into that
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: hopper and stick it into that plane. It's gonna go
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: into the belly of the plane and then go up
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: to thirty feet where it as cold as hell. That's probab,
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: you're gonna be cooling. I mean, unless you're just happy
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: to be flying from Florida to California via Texas and
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: just staying in the hot zone the whole time. But
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: for the most part, it's probably getting colder as you fly.
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: Your meat is gonna be fine even if you it
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: was like a very very long day of flying. It's
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: gonna stay cool, it's not gonna warm up. You're gonna
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: be fine. And then you can fly with I think
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: three pounds of dry ice. Really yeah, a couple of
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: chech questions and don't put dry ice and a yetdie
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: hopper and seal it. Oh it'll be other too air tight. Yeah,
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: they they we almost can'ton Greuth and I had almost
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: had a couple of meat bombs. We had a couple
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: of scary situations of dry ice and hoppers. If you
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: if you put dry us in the hopp or leave
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: the zipper cracked a little bit, yea, what is that whistling?
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: And I started digging through the back of the handle
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: fire and I'm like, oh my god. I never ever
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: messed with try ice. Man. I had a trick. I
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: got in trouble for talking about this one time. But
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: we had a trick once upon time where this is
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: a hotel trick. You know those ice machines at hotels
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: where you take your a little bucket ice and go
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: out in the hallway and get ice. It's humming away
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: down the hall. Man. We've had I was on it.
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: I was doing an NPR interview one time and someone
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: was asking about traveling with fish, and I say, you know,
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: it's a good trick because we used to stick fish
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: and keep it chilled in the icemaker at the hotel.
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: Just kind of dig a trough in the back and
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: stick your frozen fish back and then and shove the
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: ice back on it. And I can't here, man. Someone
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: the the NPR station got a lot of complaints from
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: hotel you from hotel, from hotel people being pissed about
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: it's smart. Couple questions. Someone says, Steve never uses a
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: spot and scope? What's up with that? Spot scopes? All
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: the time I used spotting sculpts. Nine of my spot
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: and scope use is given something a careful examination after
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: I have found it. I don't find a lot of
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: stuff with spotting scopes. I don't know any real serious
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: hunters that we hang with that sit around for hours
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: the way we do glassing through binoculars, closing one eye
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: am peering through a single spotting scope. It just doesn't
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: from what I've seen, it just doesn't work. Yeah, your
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: eyes get tired that way. You're like squinting. Um. The
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: panting is harder. You need to have both eyes open
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: when you're doing initial glassing. And yeah, and now there
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: is a thing where you can mount two spotting scopes
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: side by side and look through them at the same time. Man,
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: oh baby, show me that. That sounds great. But I
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: do think even um, if you're doing a lot of
- 1:22:55Speaker 1: like fine looking trying to locate what the spottings go,
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: just because of that, I relief, uh kind of fresh perspective.
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: It's great to bounce back and forth, um, because it
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: almost like rejuvenates between bounce back and forth between your eyes.
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: Oh no, just from binos to spot or even when
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: you haven't located anything, yeah you know, yeah, like who's
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: your hunt? I oftentimes just had to lay down and
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: just close my eyes, and my eyes start to get
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: such like just like a weird like I've been staring
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: ating my act. There's too long. But we're just not
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: at mule your hunt. I carry it like I had
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: my just regular I emols myself with a pair of
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: ten power binos, so I had a pair of vortex
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: raisors of tens and then I had a five millimeter
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: so that's like the objective lens so big ass spot
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: and scope, and I had that thing out ten times. Well,
- 1:23:49Speaker 1: I don't know, we're seeing four to ten bucks every
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: day every year we found I'd had the spot and
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: scope out looking at it, so it's out all the
- 1:23:58Speaker 1: time or now and then to be like some little
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: pocket you couldn't really see into and you're kind of
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: curious about, I might put a spot in scope on it.
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: But every time we'd be like, there's a box, and
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: I would get spots about one to see what was
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: up with him, and two to scan around and see
- 1:24:12Speaker 1: if he had anybody's hanging around bedding under some tree nearby.
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: So I'd always give him. I'm doing it all the time, man,
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: I'd like to keep it handy. I don't like to
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: put it where I can't get at it, because then
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: you know, then you're too lazy and you can't get
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: it out when you're glassing. Are there different techniques that
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: you use with your binos checking out a hillside or yeah? Yeah,
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: I mean up, down, back forth, all that kind of
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: stuff near far close. Yeah, mine is pretty um. I
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: sit down and look at all the good stuff first,
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: and then I start picking the place apart. Yeah, I
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: go over down, back, try to break it up into
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: a way. A minute. Let's say youre looking across a
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: flat plane at a hill and there's like, you know,
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: there's like a big ridge that divides the hill you're
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: looking that. I might be like, Okay, I'm gonna do
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: the left of that ridge side to side. I can't
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: do the right ridge. I'm gonna do the flat plane.
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: I'm gonna go in that order again and again and
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: again and again and again and again and again, and
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: try to have some order to it, because if you
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: just look at all the cool looking stuff, you miss
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: a lot. Yeah, yeah, it's curious about no the tech question.
- 1:25:24Speaker 1: Why fixed blades and not mechanicals. I don't know a
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: man broadheads, I don't know. I just like them because
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: they're already in the position they're supposed to be in
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: fixed blades. But no, it's not, it's nothing. It's just
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, there it is, is all put together.
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: It doesn't need to do anything. I don't think that's
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: not enough. That's my reason. It's already the way. It's
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: already the way it's supposed to be. And I don't
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: gotta wonder, right, But I mean, but I know a
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: lot of like very accomplished archers who know more about
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: archie tackle than I ever will, who love mechanicals. But
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: for me, it's just like one less thing. We we
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: used them for a while and it was kind of
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: even the infancy. No, I mean they've been around a
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: long time. It was kind of like when they first
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: started becoming popular and they had the rubber bands, you know,
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: and like they'd get too much sunlight on them, and
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: then the rubber band and be brittle, or the rubber
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: bands that we're supposed to be and you're like checking
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: your pockets for just like I messled them and then
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: I just something about I like one piece like one
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: piece broadheads, because I just I just look at it
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: and I understand it and I know what's up with it. Yeah,
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: you get a little corrosion and stuff just from like
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: morning do after multiple mornings in the field running around
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: and and they I've had them like stuck together to
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: the point where I was like, I don't care what
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: you run this through. It's not gonna come open. It's
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: just like old man ship. I look at it and
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: I understand it. Nothing needed to be put together. I
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: just know that. It's like that's what it is there.
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: It is that makes sense. Yeah, I wouldn't use mechanicals
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: much either. You know, I think that the technology has
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: come a long way with those broadheads. If I shot
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: my bow at more critters, i'd probably try him. Um.
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: But yeah, right now, I shoot fixed because they seem
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: more sturdy, more durable. They filled the engineer. Remember how
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: earlier today I was trying to get you to go
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: to hunter safety. Yeah. Yeah. Let's say you went to
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: hunter safety and then you got a bowl and you
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: learn how to shoot your bow, and then you developed
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: this this insatiable blood lust. Probably probably gonna happen. Uh.
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: Would you be a fixed man or a mechanical man? Well,
- 1:27:49Speaker 1: I mean just the same reasons that you're talking about.
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: It seems more simple, probably will last longer, I'm guessing,
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: like like in the morning, you know less of a
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: chance of them falling up. Heart you're worth, is your
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: fixed man? Yeah? From all the knowledge I know about
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: the subject, I've weighed the pros and cons, and I've
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: come to the conclusion that I am a fixed man.
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: Well stated, you can hit number thirty one if you
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: want to knock it out. Another tech question, Oh yeah,
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: great tech question. This one comes up a lot. You
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: can't answer it enough. Go ahead, cal give the question
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: and the answer. What is the electrical tape on the
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: end of your barrel? If you just answer that straight out,
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: it would be electrical tape. But we've learned about this
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: in hunter safety. I think they like, crap in your gun.
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: We discussed it. I can't remember. I think it's on
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: the test putting a piece of tape over the have
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: to ask Tracy, Yeah, there's in one of the videos.
- 1:28:50Speaker 1: I think. Really, yeah, preventing stuff from getting down into
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: your barrel your gun. That's great, that's it. Yep. They
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: didn't tell me that. In hunter safety. Yeah, that there
- 1:28:59Speaker 1: is intense they fail get ready. I remember them discussed,
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: like talking a lot about keeping your muzzle clear, you know,
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: I mean aware of the fact that you could trip
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: stumble poke your muzzle into the mud and it was
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: gonna jam eight inches of mud into your muzzle, which
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: I've never seen actually happen in real life, and then
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: you would pull the trigger in the back pressure would
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: cause the gun to blow up. I packed a barrel
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: full of snow this morning. Bad. Really, I I packed
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: my rifle barrel full of mud, packing of bull. The
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: bull is already long since expired in in pieces. I'm
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: partially on my back but stumbling through the rifle slit
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: off and uh, that is terrible. But it got cold
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: enough to where that whole core of mud just came out,
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: and I swear to God that thing was so clean
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: actually helped. I don't understand how it worked, but um, yeah,
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: it's just an I mean major barrel cleaner like it
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: just yeah, But I did a you know, full maybe
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: I had just built up how dirty it was going
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: to be in my mind, and by the time I
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: got back and actually put a light down the barrel
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: and looked at it, I was very amazed at how
- 1:30:20Speaker 1: how clean it was. Um, you're feeling good about it? Yeah,
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: this is one that I like because I've heard it
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: discussed in a lot of circles with with folks that
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: have produced all sorts of shows and movies for Netflix,
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: which is doesn't bother you that all those months of
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: hard work can be watched in a day. Yes, yes, Maggie,
- 1:30:51Speaker 1: yeahly season nine, are you getting those comments? The number
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: one comment that's probably the number one question on you
- 1:30:59Speaker 1: should have that an audio thing? When season nine filming,
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: it right now. I think that's just the whole world
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: of just I mean, not that I work on the show,
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: but just production and post production. It's like a lot
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: of stuff I do. Sometimes you have to think about
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: You're like, man, the lifespan is less than twelve hours
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: in the days and time, and that I put in
- 1:31:18Speaker 1: a into it more or less than also all the
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: other people working on it. It's just crazy to think about.
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: But a big motion picture that you also watching nine
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: twenty minutes, they can spend years on years millions of
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: dollars for those two hours, millions and millions um. But
- 1:31:41Speaker 1: nobody complains about that. Good chat question. Do you have
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: a pack weight limit? How much is too much? Man,
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: it's gone down over the years. Uh. At a time
- 1:31:58Speaker 1: we would care area around packs that were approaching a
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: hundred pounds um and while and it's like something really
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: weird happens when you jump up, like even when you
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: jump up to like seventy pounds, you put it on
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: and you suddenly feel kind of fragile, Like you put
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: it on, you could picture hurting yourself. You're like, I
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: could picture tripping and hurting myself. And I have done
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: a couple big pack outs. I don't know if it
- 1:32:27Speaker 1: was probably not over a hundred pounds, but done a
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: couple of packouts and now you know over a decade ago.
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: Uh that just that that you didn't feed, your body
- 1:32:40Speaker 1: didn't feel right for a week or two after, like
- 1:32:45Speaker 1: you like just just I don't do it anymore. I
- 1:32:48Speaker 1: just don't do it anymore. When we wait those what
- 1:32:51Speaker 1: do we wait? We weigh those packs on that Washington
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: Elk hunt, H well, I had, like my was like
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: eighty four and years was like no low nine these
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: maybe and they were pretty brutal. I think nine pound
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: pounds over the top. I think for me on that one,
- 1:33:09Speaker 1: I can't remember Dandy pulled off a pack to weighed
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: one on nine or something once. Yeah, there's a lot
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: that you could we could pull off. I mean, I'm
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: sure I could carry a hundred and thirty pounder out
- 1:33:22Speaker 1: of the woods. But I'm playing the long game these days,
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: and I want to be hunting hel can romp in
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: the mountains well into my sixties. That means I have
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: at least twenty years maybe of good mountain hunting. And
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: uh and much rather take this last bull I killed
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: in Colorado. We did two trips. The guy that I
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: was with was not gonna do one big load anyways.
- 1:33:47Speaker 1: I probably could have doubled up quarters and packed it out,
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: you know. So if I had two guys like me,
- 1:33:51Speaker 1: we could have done it one trip. But we just
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: you know, went lighter packs fifty to sixty pound, did
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: two trips. Felt great. At the end of the day,
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: walked you know, an extra six miles, but it was
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: a nice day to be in the mountains, you know. Yeah,
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: I think it's for context, Like I can put ten
- 1:34:11Speaker 1: days worth of what I need to live and and
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: honestly pretty darn comfortably in the mountains um on my
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: back and the whole kit everything I need is under
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: sixty pounds for ten days. I don't know if that
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: does provide contacts for folks. But yeah, well then you're
- 1:34:35Speaker 1: like you put it on, and you're very aware of
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: having that pack on. You're like a where that it's there. Yeah,
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: And I guess the good news there is like from
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: the first snack on, it's getting lighter the whole time,
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: you know, like it will and until it's time to
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: start packing animals out, it's it's not going to increase
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: in weight. Uh. Question trophy hunting question, how do you
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: learn to gauge the size of a deer long distance
- 1:35:04Speaker 1: just by looking at him all the time? And the
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: other thing is like you gotta kind of ask you
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: something like why do you care? Uh? We like I
- 1:35:14Speaker 1: like to look because you like big giant buck. Yeah.
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: Like the other day I was saying to someone, we're
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: hunt with some guys, and whe of these guys have
- 1:35:19Speaker 1: passed up a five point bowl, and I was saying,
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: my new mantra is that elker for eating and mule
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: deer are for looking for big ones. Um. Yeah, I
- 1:35:31Speaker 1: guess you just learned a little I don't know, like
- 1:35:32Speaker 1: a good like for for us. When we're like looking
- 1:35:35Speaker 1: at mule deer and looking at COO's deer and stuff,
- 1:35:38Speaker 1: the first thing you're looking for is um. It's kind
- 1:35:40Speaker 1: of like the most immediate reference is you describe boxes
- 1:35:45Speaker 1: like outside the ears, inside the ears, outside of the ears,
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: inside of the ears. Like if you see a box
- 1:35:50Speaker 1: and his horns are wider than his ears, you take notice.
- 1:35:56Speaker 1: You're like, let me get a look, right, Yeah, there's
- 1:35:59Speaker 1: a buck hey inside the ears. The truly big ones
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: doesn't matter what species of antler and animal this is
- 1:36:05Speaker 1: our buddy Jay Scott always say this. It's like it's
- 1:36:09Speaker 1: gonna look abnormally large on his head. It's gonna make
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: his head look little because those are the truly it looks.
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: It looks weird because it's so big. You can do
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: all the you know, oh, it was touching his butt
- 1:36:21Speaker 1: when he put his head back, or when he turned
- 1:36:24Speaker 1: his head. It was his wise is you know, from
- 1:36:26Speaker 1: his shoulders to this, that and the other. The really
- 1:36:28Speaker 1: big ones, they just like, there's no question about it.
- 1:36:31Speaker 1: If you have to try to talk yourself into it.
- 1:36:34Speaker 1: It's not as big as you want it to be.
- 1:36:36Speaker 1: Other things like if you really are like trying to
- 1:36:39Speaker 1: trophy judge an animal. Well, now before we get into that,
- 1:36:43Speaker 1: another quick hitter is usually the more mature animals were
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: gonna gonna have a little bit of a darker antler,
- 1:36:48Speaker 1: especially looking at mule deer, the young spinley ones tend
- 1:36:51Speaker 1: to be a little bit whiter in color, a little chalkier.
- 1:36:55Speaker 1: The darker ones are with the more mature ones. But
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: after that it comes down to high length. You're looking
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: for long times, but a big thick chocolate e outside
- 1:37:09Speaker 1: the ears. We we were talking abut because we're talking
- 1:37:11Speaker 1: like like why why does everyone seem to in our
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: group of friends and stuff, everyone sort of agrees on
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: what's like absolutely like a shooter box, right, and I
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: don't know, it just has certain yeah dark antler Yeah,
- 1:37:28Speaker 1: a minimum amount past years. And I was looking all
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: the time. Uh, the last time I gotta go up
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: and hunt Alberta for me oldier. My spotting scope actually
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: got stolen out of the back of my track. So
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: I was up there hunting without a spotting scope and
- 1:37:44Speaker 1: it was like very very frustrating, but I so all.
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: I had my UM tripod and my binoculars on the
- 1:37:53Speaker 1: tripod and was glassing and um, I had to and
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: you're looking at deer from a long way way. I
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: had to really rely on the body like that is
- 1:38:08Speaker 1: a big body. It appears to have a big gut
- 1:38:12Speaker 1: on it, and it's got antlers on its head. I'm
- 1:38:17Speaker 1: gonna go after that buck, not the rest of these bucks,
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: because that is just a significantly bulkier deer that that
- 1:38:27Speaker 1: looks older from this perspective way back belly dragger. And
- 1:38:32Speaker 1: I will tell you absolutely no exaggeration. I was consistently
- 1:38:36Speaker 1: hunting larger deer than the guys that we're hunting with
- 1:38:40Speaker 1: spotting scipes. Yeah, because there it's like you want to
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: go take off and chase a deer and and go
- 1:38:47Speaker 1: hunt it. And and I would have been the exact
- 1:38:50Speaker 1: same way. But and they were like, boy, that's a
- 1:38:52Speaker 1: really nice dear. Boy, that's a really nice dear. And
- 1:38:56Speaker 1: they're like, it's got to be big, like a little
- 1:38:59Speaker 1: bit of talking to yourself off into it because you're
- 1:39:01Speaker 1: raring to go and you want to go. I give
- 1:39:04Speaker 1: it every deer the benefit of the doubt. Yeah, I
- 1:39:06Speaker 1: start out assuming every deer is a bucket, Every buck
- 1:39:09Speaker 1: is a big un until until it proves otherwise. That's
- 1:39:15Speaker 1: my operating assumption. I don't think there's anything wrong with that.
- 1:39:18Speaker 1: So here's the question, has nothing to do with the
- 1:39:20Speaker 1: season eight of met Eater. How long can you keep
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: properly packaged frozen wild game before eating it? Depends on
- 1:39:26Speaker 1: what it is. I just got my wife and I
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: stayed up late last night, and uh, I made a big,
- 1:39:32Speaker 1: big mess and got in trouble me because I just
- 1:39:35Speaker 1: had a defrost my freezer, which we're going through a
- 1:39:38Speaker 1: cold snap right now, and I was say, a great
- 1:39:40Speaker 1: time for freezer first thing about your dad and saying,
- 1:39:43Speaker 1: you know what, don't curse the darkness light of candle.
- 1:39:45Speaker 1: It's zero negative something out there right now. That's a
- 1:39:49Speaker 1: great idea. Pull everything out of your freezer. Just chuck
- 1:39:52Speaker 1: it on the back deck at our house. You do
- 1:39:54Speaker 1: have to cover it because the magpies will get after.
- 1:39:58Speaker 1: I don't know how the hell they figure out that
- 1:39:59Speaker 1: they're meet out there. It's like, I know, because if
- 1:40:03Speaker 1: it's just a piece of if it's a bone with
- 1:40:06Speaker 1: some scrap on it, I was like, it's color. But
- 1:40:09Speaker 1: how do they know. I don't know. God, he got
- 1:40:13Speaker 1: a good nose on him. Yeah, it must be. It
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: must be the nose. So anyways, the day before I
- 1:40:18Speaker 1: just turned the freezer off after I emptied it and
- 1:40:21Speaker 1: opened up the plug at the bottom, thinking there's like
- 1:40:23Speaker 1: a little bit of you know, frost in there that
- 1:40:26Speaker 1: needs to melt out. When I came home, it's like
- 1:40:30Speaker 1: not half but like you know, there was a good
- 1:40:32Speaker 1: ten foot radius around the freezer. Really, dude, I need
- 1:40:38Speaker 1: to be frost my freezer. But anyways, we put it
- 1:40:40Speaker 1: all back in there last night and there was a
- 1:40:42Speaker 1: tender loin elk tender loin from seventeen. I get so
- 1:40:46Speaker 1: attached to those things that I'm like, let's you guys
- 1:40:50Speaker 1: aren't worth it. Let's say it for another year. I
- 1:40:53Speaker 1: got no problem. I think it's gonna be a great
- 1:40:55Speaker 1: piece of I would say it depends what it is.
- 1:40:59Speaker 1: Meaning I like to eat. When we go to our
- 1:41:01Speaker 1: fish shack and bring salmon home, I like to get
- 1:41:03Speaker 1: them eating up. Yes, all that seafood does not do well.
- 1:41:07Speaker 1: It doesn't do well like any and all. See like
- 1:41:10Speaker 1: if you got if you got bluegill flas. You know
- 1:41:13Speaker 1: there's that fish, giant Travoli, and everybody likes to calm gets.
- 1:41:17Speaker 1: Let's start calm bluegills bags. If you got bluegill flase,
- 1:41:23Speaker 1: they're so lean, you know what I mean. If you
- 1:41:24Speaker 1: freeze like bluegill flas and water, I mean you can
- 1:41:28Speaker 1: keep them for a long time. But generally, like seafood,
- 1:41:30Speaker 1: I just like to get rid of it. If I
- 1:41:32Speaker 1: was gonna say that, I think that the high that
- 1:41:34Speaker 1: a high fat content has to do with something has
- 1:41:37Speaker 1: to do with how little how I fatty fish can't
- 1:41:42Speaker 1: freeze long sure, or fatty meat for that matter. You know,
- 1:41:46Speaker 1: pork just doesn't last. The fat ends up going back bear.
- 1:41:50Speaker 1: Meat that's not properly trimmed goes bad fast and to
- 1:41:52Speaker 1: freeze like the fat goes ransom, and the freezer properly trimmed, like,
- 1:41:56Speaker 1: let's just say we're talking about venison deep members of
- 1:42:00Speaker 1: the deer family. Trim the tallow off, trim the fat off.
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: It lasts for years if you you can vaccinal it,
- 1:42:09Speaker 1: but then you gotta take care of the bags. And
- 1:42:12Speaker 1: I use a vaxin there for seafood, so I think
- 1:42:14Speaker 1: it does a nice job of seafood. But I like
- 1:42:16Speaker 1: to wrap my red meat. I like to wrap it
- 1:42:18Speaker 1: in plastic wrap, and I like to wrap in wax
- 1:42:20Speaker 1: freezer paper and good tight wrap. Then put the wax
- 1:42:25Speaker 1: freezer paper on. It seems like a lot, but you
- 1:42:28Speaker 1: can eat it years later. I quit label in the
- 1:42:31Speaker 1: meat in my freezer. I quit label in the date
- 1:42:34Speaker 1: because then people I don't like have to explain the
- 1:42:37Speaker 1: date to people. Right, and my wife looks in there
- 1:42:41Speaker 1: and she sees something that says two thousand seventeen. Well,
- 1:42:44Speaker 1: you're like, what the hell is that? I just don't
- 1:42:47Speaker 1: even put it on it, and then no one has
- 1:42:48Speaker 1: the no. Then I don't have to explain why stuff
- 1:42:51Speaker 1: on my counter says three years ago if if, if
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: it came down to it, it's not like David Meltzer
- 1:42:56Speaker 1: brought over the ship from dug it up. But I
- 1:43:01Speaker 1: I try to do uh what how do you call it?
- 1:43:03Speaker 1: We talked about this, uh lasting first last in, first out,
- 1:43:08Speaker 1: first in, first out. Yeah yeah, I used to working
- 1:43:12Speaker 1: at a grocery store. First yeah. I try to do
- 1:43:14Speaker 1: first and first out. And in fact, now the hunting
- 1:43:16Speaker 1: season is totally rolling. I have a plan. I need
- 1:43:19Speaker 1: to go do some organization and I'm gonna take uh,
- 1:43:24Speaker 1: anything I have from last year is going into my
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: kitchen freezer, and and the rule being that's all gone
- 1:43:32Speaker 1: before anybody, because I still have some stray stuff from
- 1:43:35Speaker 1: last year, that's all gone before anybody taps into this year,
- 1:43:38Speaker 1: even though I've been eating this year already, because if
- 1:43:41Speaker 1: I come home with stuff rather than just freezing it,
- 1:43:43Speaker 1: I'll sometimes just start eating it because like why freezing
- 1:43:46Speaker 1: and thought you know what I mean, it's a good rotation.
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: It's so nice to do a little freezer clean because
- 1:43:52Speaker 1: you forget you have all these little goodies, like I
- 1:43:55Speaker 1: found a couple of bags of crabs that you brought
- 1:43:57Speaker 1: for me, that hadn't gotten eaten yet. So those from
- 1:44:00Speaker 1: this year, yeah, I hope, so they didn't have a
- 1:44:03Speaker 1: date on him. The reason for that? Um? What else
- 1:44:09Speaker 1: did I find in there? Some turkey liver pati that
- 1:44:12Speaker 1: I froze? Let's say it for some little fancy cocktail
- 1:44:17Speaker 1: dinner time type thing. Here's one. How do you know
- 1:44:23Speaker 1: when you're done? Okay, I don't know more about shooting
- 1:44:25Speaker 1: a wounding and animal. How do you know when you're
- 1:44:27Speaker 1: done searching? At what point is the breaking point for
- 1:44:30Speaker 1: giving in? Oh? That's tough, man. Um, I think when
- 1:44:36Speaker 1: you're exhausted, that's stupid. It's not stupid. You're exhausted. You're
- 1:44:44Speaker 1: already tired. It's gonna be no exhausted from the looking
- 1:44:47Speaker 1: part you got. Because there's been times when I've we've
- 1:44:49Speaker 1: gone back to camp. I've gone back to camp, gotten
- 1:44:52Speaker 1: a full, nice rest, and then searched all the next
- 1:44:54Speaker 1: day and become exhausted from looking, not exhausted from the hunt. Um,
- 1:45:00Speaker 1: it's mentally oh man, yeah, no, yeah, mentally and physically exhausted.
- 1:45:06Speaker 1: But when you just I don't know, when you just
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: feel like there's no hope, you have to start what happens.
- 1:45:12Speaker 1: I think after a while, with a lot of experience
- 1:45:15Speaker 1: of hitting animals with projectiles and making good and bad hits,
- 1:45:20Speaker 1: is that you just get to read. You see the
- 1:45:23Speaker 1: same things play over and over over again, Like when
- 1:45:26Speaker 1: you see a broadhead broadhead tipped arrow going to an
- 1:45:30Speaker 1: elks shoulder four or five six, maybe even eight inches.
- 1:45:37Speaker 1: You know what, I'm like, Probably not gonna do too
- 1:45:40Speaker 1: much looking. I've just seen too many of those. It's
- 1:45:44Speaker 1: just like, dude, that thing gets hit worse when he
- 1:45:47Speaker 1: fights with his buddy tomorrow, you know, from the Antler Times, right,
- 1:45:51Speaker 1: So you after a while you learned to read those hits,
- 1:45:54Speaker 1: you know. Um, that's if I had to answer the question,
- 1:45:58Speaker 1: that's why I deferred you. If I had to answer it,
- 1:46:00Speaker 1: I would say that the more you're exposed to the
- 1:46:05Speaker 1: more you start to like make sense of things and
- 1:46:08Speaker 1: you and it changes your approach where if you're like
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: I did think I know that thing is dead or
- 1:46:14Speaker 1: I know that thing's not gonna die, right, Yeah, but man,
- 1:46:18Speaker 1: it's the assumption that that's such a killer two Like
- 1:46:22Speaker 1: I I mean, I've just seen the most bizarre stuff
- 1:46:26Speaker 1: and and that bowl I lost in New Mexico, Like
- 1:46:29Speaker 1: it was such a non lethal hit and it would
- 1:46:33Speaker 1: like that placement that every the penetration was just a
- 1:46:38Speaker 1: non lethal hit. The way the bull moved afterwards, followed
- 1:46:42Speaker 1: the tracks, no blood, no nothing, non lethal, non lethal,
- 1:46:46Speaker 1: non lethal. Um. The one thing though, is he was
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: still packing that arrow. And I swear to God, man,
- 1:46:53Speaker 1: like what we found when we ultimately found the bull,
- 1:46:56Speaker 1: which was just pure dumbass luck. Um was like, you know,
- 1:47:01Speaker 1: backtrack from where the carcasses, and I swear to God
- 1:47:06Speaker 1: that thing laid down and jam that arrow into him,
- 1:47:11Speaker 1: you know. But I was like doing my due diligence
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: here falling in falling tracks, and I know we aren't
- 1:47:17Speaker 1: gonna come ount to anything, and we just really have
- 1:47:20Speaker 1: to do that. Yeah. Man, if people make the call
- 1:47:23Speaker 1: without even walking over, that's bad. Yeah, you should never
- 1:47:26Speaker 1: do that. And there's some things you learned. Like I
- 1:47:29Speaker 1: was on a tracking job one time. Something we didn't
- 1:47:31Speaker 1: find where you find like a bone fragment and not
- 1:47:35Speaker 1: a lot of blood. Yeah, and you're like lower you know,
- 1:47:38Speaker 1: you're like, okay, lower leg, it's gonna be tough. Yeah,
- 1:47:41Speaker 1: I've been there, you know. Then then like I said,
- 1:47:44Speaker 1: this little telltale signs man, where you're like, people be like,
- 1:47:48Speaker 1: holy shit, he must be real dead. It's a bone
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: fragment land here, Like how would that happen? You're like, well,
- 1:47:52Speaker 1: I happened to hit him in the Yeah, but he's gone.
- 1:47:56Speaker 1: We gotta look a long time since I told this story,
- 1:47:59Speaker 1: but I was way back when was guiding antelope hunters.
- 1:48:02Speaker 1: Guy chopped his buck pancake. I was like, oh, something
- 1:48:08Speaker 1: didn't look right, and and he was very very excited, Um,
- 1:48:13Speaker 1: real nice antelod buck. And I'm like, reload, reload, reload,
- 1:48:17Speaker 1: and he was kind of in the throes of like triumph.
- 1:48:22Speaker 1: And finally he snaps back into it, but just in
- 1:48:26Speaker 1: time to see that antelope get up and Paul ass
- 1:48:29Speaker 1: out of there and go over and there is like
- 1:48:33Speaker 1: the very top. I gotta learn the name of what
- 1:48:37Speaker 1: this is. But you know, like the long spine, uh,
- 1:48:42Speaker 1: chunks of bone that come up from the spine like
- 1:48:44Speaker 1: on the Rassic process. Is that on the neck? Yeah? Um,
- 1:48:48Speaker 1: how'd you like that, Maggie. That was very impressive. That
- 1:48:52Speaker 1: the version very impressive that I knew that someone wrote
- 1:48:58Speaker 1: someone wrote in about that might even been our chiropractor buddy.
- 1:49:01Speaker 1: The thoracic processes or whatever, know that it was. I
- 1:49:06Speaker 1: wish Phil the editor was more the engineer, like, did
- 1:49:09Speaker 1: a lot of fact checking. Wait, outside of his job description,
- 1:49:14Speaker 1: we can make it my job description. That's fine. I'm
- 1:49:16Speaker 1: gonna rewrite that description. But we made a significant medical
- 1:49:19Speaker 1: fact checking. There is hair, blood, and that top of
- 1:49:25Speaker 1: that bone land on the prairie. Oh my gosh. And yeah,
- 1:49:30Speaker 1: I never seen that. Had a client two weeks later
- 1:49:33Speaker 1: killed that buck. Really yeah, and he knew it was
- 1:49:37Speaker 1: the same one just because of oh, because of the
- 1:49:39Speaker 1: giant scar and take blood puss um. Yeah. Okay, here
- 1:49:46Speaker 1: you want to hear this is from Brian. You hunt
- 1:49:48Speaker 1: it with Brian at the the Auction to trc P
- 1:49:52Speaker 1: hunt last year in Colorado. I asked him about it
- 1:49:56Speaker 1: after someone else had written in about it, and he replied,
- 1:50:02Speaker 1: for most mammals, the projections off the vertebrae are generally
- 1:50:05Speaker 1: referred to as spinus processes and transverse processes. That sounds
- 1:50:11Speaker 1: like mostly right, that's an educated guess. I have not
- 1:50:14Speaker 1: heard of thorastic processes. That doesn't mean that one doesn't exist. Oh,
- 1:50:20Speaker 1: the thorastic is just the first one. Mm hmm. So
- 1:50:24Speaker 1: it's the that was mostly wrong. Well, the thorastic is
- 1:50:28Speaker 1: seven vertebrae, isn't it because there goes cervical thorastic lumbars,
- 1:50:33Speaker 1: spinny is process whatever? That was most right. A couple
- 1:50:37Speaker 1: of folks that actually a lot of folks asked this
- 1:50:40Speaker 1: different forms of the same question. What are you guys
- 1:50:43Speaker 1: packed for food for the longer hunts? Like the Alaska
- 1:50:46Speaker 1: doll sheep hunt. Um that was that episode is a
- 1:50:49Speaker 1: lot of people's favorite episode. It's contemplative, contemplative, I go
- 1:50:54Speaker 1: with contemplative. And the scenery is uh, beautiful scenery. It's
- 1:51:00Speaker 1: kind of like quiet and poetic and nice music. And
- 1:51:05Speaker 1: now too, I'd like to add that we have sort
- 1:51:07Speaker 1: of we have a very good spectrum um within the
- 1:51:11Speaker 1: media library of what doll sheep hunts can be like,
- 1:51:15Speaker 1: because when you went on that, when you had the
- 1:51:17Speaker 1: toke tag, we ran up there, we found a sh
- 1:51:20Speaker 1: ramp before the opening day and then got it that morning. Yeah,
- 1:51:24Speaker 1: I mean we found a mid No, it wasn't because
- 1:51:27Speaker 1: remember it was super foggy. We probably actually didn't even
- 1:51:29Speaker 1: see him until probably close to noon. But anyways, yeah,
- 1:51:31Speaker 1: that next day as as they gotten that morning. But
- 1:51:34Speaker 1: he was dead and uh, we kind of complained earlier
- 1:51:40Speaker 1: he mentioned We're like, man, sure missed out on running
- 1:51:43Speaker 1: a bunch of ridges that would have been fun. Well,
- 1:51:45Speaker 1: we got to run our Actually we didn't run too
- 1:51:48Speaker 1: many ridges because it's too cloudy floor. We ran a
- 1:51:51Speaker 1: lot of valley floors on this last trip. But yeah,
- 1:51:55Speaker 1: we have We have both types of doll sheep punts,
- 1:51:58Speaker 1: and then there's everything in between. I'm gonna give our
- 1:52:02Speaker 1: you know where. This is the first time anyone's mentioned it,
- 1:52:05Speaker 1: and I hesitate to even mentioned it. We are working
- 1:52:08Speaker 1: on two books. Um. One of these books will contain
- 1:52:16Speaker 1: you a lot of information like what I'm gonna tell
- 1:52:19Speaker 1: you right now. Uh, our basic bad Country meal plan
- 1:52:26Speaker 1: goals like this, um instant coffee. Oh check this out.
- 1:52:36Speaker 1: We used Starbucks villa mm hmm um. We use Starbucks
- 1:52:42Speaker 1: villa and bags of powdered creamer so it looks like
- 1:52:45Speaker 1: you got a bag of coke in a in a
- 1:52:47Speaker 1: cocaine movie. You guys want to rub it on your
- 1:52:50Speaker 1: lips and that's good ship. But a lot of people
- 1:52:52Speaker 1: like to complain about the villa. We've tried a lot
- 1:52:56Speaker 1: of other products to find a dude in Missoula. He
- 1:53:01Speaker 1: found one. Hear me out. Hear me out this dude
- 1:53:04Speaker 1: in Missoula. Sam, I got his address on my desk. Uh,
- 1:53:08Speaker 1: I'm done with the v is because micro trash, man,
- 1:53:13Speaker 1: it does leave a lot of micro trash. You gotta
- 1:53:15Speaker 1: please your micro trash. But here's the thing. I thought,
- 1:53:17Speaker 1: you know this guy? I do. There's a guy Sam, Yeah,
- 1:53:20Speaker 1: is that right? B h A supporter, darn good gay
- 1:53:23Speaker 1: he sent me. I think it's like this the surfing
- 1:53:27Speaker 1: dude layered Hamilton's. Is that a correct? Okay? I like
- 1:53:33Speaker 1: Mike Keely myself. Keely doesn't make the product I'm talking about.
- 1:53:39Speaker 1: He's got like all these coffee anyway. He sent me
- 1:53:41Speaker 1: this coffee and I haven't tried to x. I'm saving
- 1:53:44Speaker 1: it for a backcounch trip. It's coffee and creamer mixed
- 1:53:49Speaker 1: super food original and sure, I don't know there's like
- 1:53:53Speaker 1: a sweet one original one. It's like instant coffee and
- 1:53:57Speaker 1: it's the creamer is supposed to be made of. It
- 1:53:59Speaker 1: is funny because he wrote letters saying I don't know
- 1:54:02Speaker 1: that you're in me, Like he's saying I don't know
- 1:54:05Speaker 1: you meaning me. Um, if you're into super food. But
- 1:54:12Speaker 1: maybe Janice is like he has personality more pact is
- 1:54:17Speaker 1: one likely to be in the superfood. But I amn't
- 1:54:19Speaker 1: a super food cause I think squirrel is super food.
- 1:54:21Speaker 1: There's a lot of things that. Yeah, there's a lot
- 1:54:23Speaker 1: I think that I have because you just get the
- 1:54:24Speaker 1: name ship, you think it's super food, right, I think
- 1:54:27Speaker 1: squirrel is a superfood. Um, I'm into superfood like it.
- 1:54:30Speaker 1: But I'm looking forward to trying that. But I wanted
- 1:54:33Speaker 1: to give our here's our basic here's our basic bad
- 1:54:37Speaker 1: country meal plan. Hold on the corner, put the coffee.
- 1:54:42Speaker 1: I'm not doing the coffee. So I switched over it
- 1:54:44Speaker 1: to going back to old old school, just just getting
- 1:54:49Speaker 1: the unfortunately like little glass jar of whatever instant. Yeah,
- 1:54:56Speaker 1: we just we just drank that for eight days, you know,
- 1:54:58Speaker 1: because I like, no, I didn't I in my trash
- 1:55:01Speaker 1: via the whole time. Other people that we were with
- 1:55:03Speaker 1: had to drink it. Tasters choice, no cafe tasters choice. Yeah,
- 1:55:09Speaker 1: the one that, uh, I think it has the Mexican
- 1:55:12Speaker 1: flag on there. Well, I was just thinking to myself,
- 1:55:16Speaker 1: you know what, it would have been a great product
- 1:55:19Speaker 1: for the back country, but I don't. I'm trying to
- 1:55:22Speaker 1: buy it right now on Google and I don't know
- 1:55:24Speaker 1: if it's available. But General Foods International Coffee remember those
- 1:55:30Speaker 1: They were like a rectangular box with the red lid,
- 1:55:34Speaker 1: kind of sea and it had everything that you needed
- 1:55:37Speaker 1: in their creamer, sugar, caffeine. But I don't I'm not
- 1:55:41Speaker 1: seeing it right now on the internet. Might have gone
- 1:55:43Speaker 1: on a business, it might not be around. I'm looking
- 1:55:45Speaker 1: forward to that stuff that dude Sam sent me. I
- 1:55:47Speaker 1: need to write him a thank you, know. Um So
- 1:55:50Speaker 1: let me give my our meal plan. All right, you
- 1:55:52Speaker 1: guys can complexify this all you want. What are you
- 1:55:54Speaker 1: gonna start with breakfast? Let's started with coffee. I'm just
- 1:55:58Speaker 1: not going as quick as I wanted to a Starbucks
- 1:56:01Speaker 1: via then, whether you do or do not use cream,
- 1:56:06Speaker 1: We'll usually take a little container. Some guys put in
- 1:56:09Speaker 1: some of our w P. A is put it into
- 1:56:11Speaker 1: ziplock bag, which drives me crazy. It's better to have
- 1:56:13Speaker 1: like a little container. You get a ari I in
- 1:56:15Speaker 1: a little container section full of cream. Yea oatmeal two
- 1:56:20Speaker 1: envelopes per person, instant oatmeal packages. You eat the oatmeal
- 1:56:26Speaker 1: out of the bag, just like what what what? I'm
- 1:56:33Speaker 1: gonna have to interject because I said, you can complexify
- 1:56:36Speaker 1: all you want to trying to help people out. Go
- 1:56:38Speaker 1: ahead what I know, but we've like it's it's not.
- 1:56:41Speaker 1: I don't think you're being honest by saying that that
- 1:56:43Speaker 1: is like our go to anymore, because you might eat
- 1:56:48Speaker 1: two of those packets per trip, Like we just like
- 1:56:53Speaker 1: those things. He was asking about our like a dull
- 1:56:56Speaker 1: sheep hunt. What might one plan on bringing? Okay, but
- 1:57:01Speaker 1: that was one thing. You know what? Sorry, your answer,
- 1:57:04Speaker 1: your question cannot be answered. No, it can be answered.
- 1:57:07Speaker 1: I'm just saying, are you gonna add more breakfast items?
- 1:57:10Speaker 1: Because that's like, it's not because I like the I
- 1:57:18Speaker 1: like those vinegare have there's choice breakfast. Ye, those are good.
- 1:57:25Speaker 1: That's not oatmeal. No, but it's like a quick little thing.
- 1:57:28Speaker 1: I tell you what I don't like. It's as much
- 1:57:31Speaker 1: as I love house, I don't like houses. I don't
- 1:57:34Speaker 1: like houses. Breakfast skill it. We ate quite a few
- 1:57:37Speaker 1: of those on that trip though. Um, okay, so bagels
- 1:57:42Speaker 1: and cream cheese, I like that. But I'm trying to
- 1:57:46Speaker 1: talk about like a real anybody can figure out how
- 1:57:49Speaker 1: to feed themselves. I'm trying to talk about, like if
- 1:57:51Speaker 1: you really like like a Backpacking Applausible backpacking menu. Mm hmm,
- 1:58:00Speaker 1: let me do this. I'm gonna talk about time. Be honest.
- 1:58:02Speaker 1: Wasn't there instant coffee, instant oatmeal? Then for lunch, you
- 1:58:10Speaker 1: have flatbread with sliced meat and cheese, and you have
- 1:58:15Speaker 1: a container of mayo or mustard or both. M hm uh.
- 1:58:21Speaker 1: My brother likes to have an onion that he adds
- 1:58:23Speaker 1: into it. And you make a little thing where you
- 1:58:27Speaker 1: get like two flatbreads and a bunch of meat and cheese.
- 1:58:30Speaker 1: We used to use carl budding lunch meat because it
- 1:58:34Speaker 1: can't rot. Like it can't rot. I don't know how.
- 1:58:39Speaker 1: You'd have it for months in the back of your
- 1:58:41Speaker 1: truck and it's just fresh. It's just as fresh somehow,
- 1:58:45Speaker 1: as fresh as the day you bought it. So we
- 1:58:47Speaker 1: used to like that stuff. Or you can bring donk
- 1:58:50Speaker 1: like summer sausage whatever, like a meat and a cheese
- 1:58:53Speaker 1: that you put on a flatbread and you put mayo
- 1:58:55Speaker 1: or mustard. That's your lunch. You're good luck with all
- 1:58:58Speaker 1: kinds of cured meats lately, because they have some of
- 1:59:02Speaker 1: the same properties as the Carlo. Is it budding your
- 1:59:05Speaker 1: budding Carl? We always call it carl. We didn't even
- 1:59:08Speaker 1: use the second word, like, hey, you go, I'll get
- 1:59:12Speaker 1: the instant call, you go the grocer start, I'll get
- 1:59:13Speaker 1: the instant coffee, you get a bunch of carl, I'll
- 1:59:15Speaker 1: eat you check out and everybody know who that meant?
- 1:59:20Speaker 1: Uh yeah, uh dinner house. And then all throughout the
- 1:59:26Speaker 1: day you're eating tons of bars, and you're getting really
- 1:59:30Speaker 1: jealous of the guy at night who has some pringles
- 1:59:35Speaker 1: or corn chips. And then it's great to have candy
- 1:59:39Speaker 1: bars and bars and you eat those all throughout the
- 1:59:42Speaker 1: day and then uh some dicaffey to tease usually big
- 1:59:47Speaker 1: hit that night. The follow up question is what kind
- 1:59:49Speaker 1: of bars do you guys like? The answer is all
- 1:59:52Speaker 1: and none, all of them and none of them. Just
- 1:59:54Speaker 1: get yourself a variety, because no matter what your favorite is,
- 1:59:58Speaker 1: if it's freaking chocolate cocon today, in two days, chocolate
- 2:00:01Speaker 1: coconut will not be your favorite anymore. Yeah. Uh some
- 2:00:05Speaker 1: favorites pro Bar nothing with fruit. I don't like any
- 2:00:09Speaker 1: fruity pro bar. I'm a fruit lover. Uh we like
- 2:00:14Speaker 1: pro Bar. We like pack of runs yea from from
- 2:00:18Speaker 1: the Heather's Choice. I haven't heard of Those are good
- 2:00:23Speaker 1: we just got a little box of those. Uh my
- 2:00:26Speaker 1: nostalgia one is the like the sweet and salties. Yeah,
- 2:00:30Speaker 1: doing nothing for you can bar. It's like a hybry
- 2:00:35Speaker 1: between a candy bar and all the bar makes you
- 2:00:38Speaker 1: feel better. Though. We eat those ones that are all
- 2:00:41Speaker 1: like it's just like hell food. It's like it'll say
- 2:00:43Speaker 1: in the package, like four dates, three eggs. We eat
- 2:00:49Speaker 1: a lot of kind. I'm a big kind bar guy. Snickers.
- 2:00:55Speaker 1: People always buying Snickers for our Snickers with almonds. I
- 2:00:59Speaker 1: ate a bunch on my last strip. That was a
- 2:01:00Speaker 1: lot of Snickers. The only time I think I ever
- 2:01:03Speaker 1: eat a Snickers is when I'm around Joanna's. He's like,
- 2:01:06Speaker 1: we always it's always in our loop. There's always Snickers
- 2:01:10Speaker 1: in our loop. Starbursts when we were turkey hunting. Yeah,
- 2:01:13Speaker 1: that's what anything like that gets eating up. If you
- 2:01:17Speaker 1: were smart, if you were smart, you'd shop. No, we
- 2:01:21Speaker 1: talked about this. You might not be smart to do that. Um,
- 2:01:24Speaker 1: I say, if you're smart, you'd come out of the mountains,
- 2:01:27Speaker 1: not eat anything, and then grow to a grocery store
- 2:01:30Speaker 1: and buy all your stuff for your next trip. Yeah,
- 2:01:33Speaker 1: but then your next trip would be like springles, corn chips,
- 2:01:36Speaker 1: hot dogs, pizza, rotisserie chicken would be like all the
- 2:01:40Speaker 1: stuff where you're like just like totally calorie starved. You'd
- 2:01:43Speaker 1: like go into a store and be like, I was like, oh,
- 2:01:44Speaker 1: this uh miso soup, instant miso soup for cold weather hunts, ma'am.
- 2:01:51Speaker 1: It's really salty. It's just a nice treat and it
- 2:01:56Speaker 1: recharges all that loss sodium like mid mid day when
- 2:02:01Speaker 1: I fire up the jet boil when it's weather like this. Man,
- 2:02:05Speaker 1: I've done the same thing with chicken and beef. Stock
- 2:02:08Speaker 1: cubes has a little bully on cues. That's good. I
- 2:02:11Speaker 1: like pickle juicey hot, but I brought some turkey any
- 2:02:19Speaker 1: in my water bowl? Fool? Is it cut with a
- 2:02:24Speaker 1: bunch of water? Is it all pickle juice? Just pickled juice?
- 2:02:30Speaker 1: You have to you can buy it, But I had
- 2:02:31Speaker 1: pickles at home, so I just poured the juice and
- 2:02:33Speaker 1: a I had like a small water bottle and I
- 2:02:35Speaker 1: just brought that with me because I like gatorade and
- 2:02:38Speaker 1: I had gatorade powder. In that last question, we all
- 2:02:42Speaker 1: know what the answer is for Maggie. Everybody gets to
- 2:02:45Speaker 1: do it, and it's gonna be a rap even Phil,
- 2:02:48Speaker 1: We're even gonna let you do it. Hey, thanks man.
- 2:02:52Speaker 1: What animal gets your blood pumping the most and why
- 2:02:56Speaker 1: we know it? For mag it's obviously turkeys. One specifically,
- 2:03:01Speaker 1: Maggie gets around turkey, she loses her ability to shoot.
- 2:03:07Speaker 1: There's a lot of things going on in my head.
- 2:03:11Speaker 1: We're like, never shoo him in full strut unless side
- 2:03:14Speaker 1: he's in full strut. Did say, yeah, like, forget that, man,
- 2:03:22Speaker 1: he has a full strut. Go listen to me all
- 2:03:26Speaker 1: the time except for this. But then you gotta know
- 2:03:29Speaker 1: when not to listen to me. I wish I had
- 2:03:32Speaker 1: like a little Steve like still like Pill would have
- 2:03:35Speaker 1: been there with the sound board and it could have
- 2:03:36Speaker 1: been you go and shoot my head. I would have
- 2:03:39Speaker 1: been flipping out. So Mag, you'll let you answer. I
- 2:03:45Speaker 1: don't mean answer for you. I'll go first. What animals
- 2:03:47Speaker 1: my blood pumping the most? And why? Um? Uh? Wild turkeys,
- 2:03:58Speaker 1: mule deer and uh. It's just so much fun to
- 2:04:03Speaker 1: hunt squirrels. It's like fun to go out your friends
- 2:04:05Speaker 1: and hunt squirrels, wild turkeys and mule deer and squirrels
- 2:04:09Speaker 1: just because it's something like it's not the squirrels so
- 2:04:10Speaker 1: much as it's like the it just is always so enjoyable.
- 2:04:14Speaker 1: Oh yeah, all the pressures of a big game hunt,
- 2:04:17Speaker 1: aren't there. You just having just laughing and having fun,
- 2:04:21Speaker 1: just fun. Walk around the woods your bodies looking for
- 2:04:23Speaker 1: squirrels gets my blood bumping. But like big mule to
- 2:04:26Speaker 1: your box get my blood up pumping. Yeah man, yeah,
- 2:04:31Speaker 1: I mean I the quest for a big meal to
- 2:04:34Speaker 1: your buck is still one I am on. And I
- 2:04:37Speaker 1: mean this bad spot where I feel like I've blown
- 2:04:41Speaker 1: like three chances of a lifetime at just a monster buck,
- 2:04:46Speaker 1: I've only I've almost gotten too many of them. Yeah. Man,
- 2:04:50Speaker 1: but you're Steve Ronnella. I mean think all the resources
- 2:04:53Speaker 1: you have it your those big fat fingertips here, I'm
- 2:04:59Speaker 1: just average Joe. Uh yeah, that's I've lost my cool
- 2:05:06Speaker 1: on those damn things like embarrassingly twice um and so
- 2:05:15Speaker 1: yeah man that that's still still at the top of
- 2:05:17Speaker 1: the list. I feel like for a long time I've
- 2:05:20Speaker 1: come partmentalized. Elk into you go in the freezer like
- 2:05:27Speaker 1: I'm just I'm just shuffling you into the freezer. No
- 2:05:30Speaker 1: time to get too excited, Like, let's just get on
- 2:05:34Speaker 1: with the process. Mule, do you her for looking for
- 2:05:38Speaker 1: big ones. Yeah, says that. Yeah, I like I like Phil. Hey,
- 2:05:46Speaker 1: it's kind of a different answer. It's whichever whichever of
- 2:05:50Speaker 1: the deer that jump out in front of my car
- 2:05:54Speaker 1: when I'm taking the beater whirl roads into town during
- 2:05:57Speaker 1: the winter. Those are the ones that get my blood bump.
- 2:06:00Speaker 1: I hear you for separate reasons than you guys, But
- 2:06:05Speaker 1: I like Phil Man. He's got a smart answer. Yea, yeah,
- 2:06:11Speaker 1: I think he's getting wiser because the can we jump
- 2:06:13Speaker 1: over and talk about Phil's mustache real quick? I mean,
- 2:06:16Speaker 1: the growth is the luxuriant. I like it luxuriant, but
- 2:06:22Speaker 1: you do need to die. You like fulfill the curtains,
- 2:06:28Speaker 1: don't manage the drapes. Yes, about his face of my face,
- 2:06:34Speaker 1: the drapes of my face. Thank you for that clarification. Um, yeah,
- 2:06:39Speaker 1: we've talked about just for men. Touch of gray is
- 2:06:41Speaker 1: what lacata just to look distinguished. But yeah, it's for
- 2:06:48Speaker 1: my Halloween costume tomorrow. I hope you guys will be
- 2:06:51Speaker 1: here in the office. I can't wait. I can't wait much.
- 2:06:56Speaker 1: He spends with the headphones on. I want like a
- 2:06:59Speaker 1: real news cast or type of haircut to go with that. Mustache.
