- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome back to SEC Football Addiction. TJ Pittenger here with
- 0:05Speaker 1: my guy Jay over at Unfair Sports, locked on Sooners.
- 0:09Speaker 1: And buddy, before we get started, let me just take
- 0:12Speaker 1: one second. Well, all right, no Michigan jokes. We are
- 0:15Speaker 1: presented by PrizePix. We're all new users who play a
- 0:19Speaker 1: $ 5 lineup and win, get $ 150 in lineups instantly. Jay, listen,
- 0:25Speaker 1: we all watched Michigan last week, and we'll talk about
- 0:27Speaker 1: them a ton today. I watched the Oklahoma game. When
- 0:33Speaker 1: you play an opponent that you're far superior to, I
- 0:36Speaker 1: know it is hard to take things away from it,
- 0:37Speaker 1: but let's be honest, 80% of the college football world
- 0:40Speaker 1: did that last week. Even some of the games we
- 0:43Speaker 1: thought would be competitive, teams played opponents that were far
- 0:46Speaker 1: inferior to them, looking at you, Clemson. But what was
- 0:50Speaker 1: your big takeaway, just because you and I haven't talked
- 0:52Speaker 1: since that game happened, what was your big takeaway from
- 0:54Speaker 1: the weekend against UTEP?
- 0:58Speaker 2: Honestly, it was kind of the new look Sooners offense
- 1:01Speaker 2: and how they were doing things. First and foremost, you
- 1:04Speaker 2: got 10 of John Mateer's 17 dropbacks were from under center. So,
- 1:12Speaker 2: you know, he was doing some more under center work.
- 1:14Speaker 2: You got to see some play action. And then 50
- 1:18Speaker 2: of their 59 plays in the game were in 12
- 1:21Speaker 2: personnel or more. Like, I got to see 14 personnel. TJ,
- 1:25Speaker 2: you want to know the last time we had a
- 1:26Speaker 2: good tight end set up?
- 1:28Speaker 3: It was before Brent Venables. Like, it's been that long.
- 1:32Speaker 2: They were out there running 14 personnel, or you could
- 1:35Speaker 2: call it 23 because one of the tight ends was
- 1:38Speaker 2: playing H-back or fullback spots.
- 1:40Speaker 3: But yeah, you got to see.
- 1:43Speaker 2: Oklahoma go out there and try to be as physically
- 1:45Speaker 2: opposing as possible. They rushed for 170 yards. So they
- 1:50Speaker 2: did what they needed to do. They burned a ton
- 1:52Speaker 2: of clock. And yeah, that was probably the one thing
- 1:55Speaker 2: I got out of it. The defense, the defense did
- 1:56Speaker 2: what it's supposed to do. They got the shutout, which
- 1:58Speaker 2: in theory, they could have probably gave up nine points
- 2:00Speaker 2: because of field goals. but that's the one thing that
- 2:03Speaker 2: your defense is supposed to do. Make a kicker so
- 2:06Speaker 2: afraid that they shank everything they kick.
- 2:09Speaker 3: So they did their job.
- 2:10Speaker 2: Like I give them credit for that. I give them
- 2:12Speaker 2: credit for him missing because they were afraid. Even better,
- 2:15Speaker 2: the one last thing, though, the special teams feels like
- 2:18Speaker 2: it's going to be a lot better than even last year. Now,
- 2:21Speaker 2: we have the Groves Award-winning kicker, so I'm not concerned
- 2:23Speaker 2: about us kicking. But not only did we make them
- 2:27Speaker 2: miss on their kicks out of fear of getting leveled,
- 2:30Speaker 2: the punter forgot how to punt after his first punt.
- 2:34Speaker 2: He punts the ball out, Isaiah Cetania catches that thing, and.
- 2:37Speaker 3: He runs it back, right?
- 2:38Speaker 2: Well, that's not really the story there. The story in
- 2:41Speaker 2: there is one of the backup safeties, Omarion Robinson, a.k.a.
- 2:45Speaker 2: Man Man, he leveled the punter. TJ, what makes it
- 2:49Speaker 2: so funny is he took the dude out. The punter's
- 2:52Speaker 2: next punt went seven yards.
- 2:54Speaker 3: He was afraid. He said, I know.
- 2:56Speaker 1: I'm not. Nope.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Not putting myself through that. He's like, I'd rather give
- 3:00Speaker 2: y'all a touchdown in perfect position than to allow it
- 3:03Speaker 2: to go deep enough where somebody can come hit me.
- 3:06Speaker 3: I'm good. And all of his punts shanked after that.
- 3:09Speaker 1: So.
- 3:10Speaker 2: in my personal opinion, being physically imposed in the way
- 3:13Speaker 2: we were, was exactly what I hoped we.
- 3:15Speaker 3: Would do in a game against UTEP.
- 3:17Speaker 2: Now we've got to take that same mentality to Ann Arbor,
- 3:21Speaker 2: to the big house, and make Michigan bend the knee.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Shout out to UTEP, man, because it is a wild
- 3:29Speaker 1: three weeks when you guys I talked about. I think
- 3:32Speaker 1: I talked about this with you like back in April
- 3:34Speaker 1: or whenever we did this last. But for them to
- 3:36Speaker 1: play you guys and then you to play Michigan and
- 3:38Speaker 1: then they play Michigan right after that, you know, I
- 3:41Speaker 1: know we're not supposed to do the transitive property. And
- 3:43Speaker 1: I really have no point with this. Like, I'm not
- 3:44Speaker 1: going anywhere with it. But just to see that lineup
- 3:47Speaker 1: of games three weeks in a row. is pretty wild.
- 3:49Speaker 1: So shout out to UTEP for the way this is
- 3:52Speaker 1: getting scheduled because it is the ultimate sandwich game where you,
- 3:55Speaker 1: you know, it's, it's a piece of bread on the
- 3:57Speaker 1: top and a piece of bread on the bottom. Now
- 3:58Speaker 1: I'm not a carpenter, but then all the good stuff
- 4:00Speaker 1: in the middle, like that's what we expect to get
- 4:02Speaker 1: this weekend. Or that's what we expected to get. Maybe
- 4:04Speaker 1: that's a good transition. Maybe I will go somewhere with this. Yeah.
- 4:06Speaker 1: Maybe I do this for a living, but we thought
- 4:09Speaker 1: we were getting all that meat, all that good stuff
- 4:10Speaker 1: in the middle pause, but okay. Michigan last week, Not
- 4:15Speaker 1: their best performance. We all know the controversy and all
- 4:18Speaker 1: this stuff that's come out from the back and the
- 4:20Speaker 1: big time. I don't care about any of that. That
- 4:21Speaker 1: has nothing to do with this game. Well, it could
- 4:24Speaker 1: because it's been played up in Ann Arbor, but I'll
- 4:27Speaker 1: move on before the Michigan fans yell at me again.
- 4:30Speaker 1: I expect Michigan. Now, I'll tell you, my thoughts on them,
- 4:34Speaker 1: because we have the one data point, are that they
- 4:36Speaker 1: probably aren't as imposing as we thought they were going
- 4:38Speaker 1: to be this year. I still expect Michigan to play
- 4:42Speaker 1: better than they did last week. I think they've had
- 4:45Speaker 1: a week to correct. I think you do get up
- 4:47Speaker 1: for another opponent. My question for them is, will playing better,
- 4:53Speaker 1: will you play better enough to account for how much
- 4:56Speaker 1: better of an opponent you're playing? This weekend. Right. I
- 5:01Speaker 1: expect them to play better. I expect them to play
- 5:02Speaker 1: with more intensity. I expect it to be a little
- 5:04Speaker 1: bit more do or die for them because they are
- 5:06Speaker 1: playing a top 10 team. But will that be enough
- 5:10Speaker 1: to account for the fact that Oklahoma is a hell
- 5:12Speaker 1: of a lot better than Western Michigan is? At least
- 5:14Speaker 1: I hope they are. What are your thoughts on just
- 5:17Speaker 1: the way that last week impacts this week in this matchup?
- 5:21Speaker 2: To me, I don't think last week impacts this week
- 5:23Speaker 2: at all because even though Michigan did go a little
- 5:26Speaker 2: bit deeper in their bag than they probably wanted to
- 5:28Speaker 2: in a game that they probably shouldn't have, Western Michigan
- 5:31Speaker 2: did win the MAAC. They are actually a legitimate good team,
- 5:34Speaker 2: and I've watched teams snatch their players up in the
- 5:37Speaker 2: P4 on a regular basis. They find some really good
- 5:41Speaker 2: diamonds in the rough type players, and then everybody else
- 5:43Speaker 2: goes and steals them from them.
- 5:44Speaker 3: It's just a common thing. And that's okay.
- 5:46Speaker 2: That means that you are doing a really good job
- 5:48Speaker 2: of not only scouting and finding those gems, but development
- 5:51Speaker 2: to where you're getting them right before they hit that curve.
- 5:55Speaker 2: And then when they hit that curve, other teams are
- 5:58Speaker 2: really finding a way to lure them away. Besides that point, though,
- 6:01Speaker 2: I don't believe that Michigan's going to walk in this
- 6:04Speaker 2: game and just get pummeled. I think it's going to
- 6:06Speaker 2: be a closer game than people realize.
- 6:08Speaker 1: I know. I know.
- 6:09Speaker 2: It means that I'm hedging in some capacity or not
- 6:12Speaker 2: as belief in Oklahoma. But I really do think that
- 6:15Speaker 2: Oklahoma's focal point is 12 personnel punish you, run it
- 6:19Speaker 2: down your throat, push you around type football, which typically
- 6:22Speaker 2: doesn't put out a bunch of points. Granted, Michigan can
- 6:25Speaker 2: make a ton of turnovers and make it to where
- 6:28Speaker 2: Oklahoma goes out there and beat them 30-13 or 30-9
- 6:33Speaker 2: or something like that.
- 6:34Speaker 3: That could happen.
- 6:35Speaker 2: But I do think that Kyle Whittingham is going to
- 6:37Speaker 2: have them in a better headspace going into this game.
- 6:40Speaker 2: And Whittingham has a ton of respect for Brent Venables,
- 6:42Speaker 2: so they're going to be overly prepared. The good thing
- 6:45Speaker 2: is Brent Venables is in the same mindset of, dude,
- 6:48Speaker 2: they've got talented players on their roster. And they've got
- 6:50Speaker 2: a really good coach, a future Hall of Fame coach.
- 6:53Speaker 2: So we're not going to pretend like they're a bunch
- 6:56Speaker 2: of scrubs or a bunch of chumps, as Brent Venables
- 6:58Speaker 2: has said in the past. He's not going to call
- 7:00Speaker 2: them chumps or bums. He's going to look at them
- 7:02Speaker 2: as a team that– Wounded animal in the corner fighting
- 7:06Speaker 2: for their lives at this one. Because in everybody's eyes,
- 7:11Speaker 2: they're 0-1 right now. And so they're going to have
- 7:15Speaker 2: to do a lot of bouncing back this season for
- 7:18Speaker 2: people to actually believe in them again. This is their
- 7:20Speaker 2: best opportunity to do this against a team that was.
- 7:23Speaker 3: In the playoffs last year.
- 7:24Speaker 2: So in that case, I'm not going to pretend like
- 7:27Speaker 2: this team is just going to be terrible. Now, Underwood
- 7:30Speaker 2: ain't looking very good. We'll see if he's the quarterback
- 7:34Speaker 2: at halftime after halftime in this game.
- 7:37Speaker 1: Hey, guys, I'll get right back to chatting with Jay,
- 7:39Speaker 1: but just a real quick reminder, make sure that you
- 7:41Speaker 1: are subscribed to the channel. We've done a ton through
- 7:44Speaker 1: this offseason, and I'm thankful that football is finally here.
- 7:47Speaker 1: We will continue to bring you SEC updates, obviously Oklahoma
- 7:50Speaker 1: updates as they continue to have massive, massive games. So
- 7:53Speaker 1: make sure you are subscribed. Nothing else to tell you,
- 7:55Speaker 1: nothing else to ask for. That part's free. Now back
- 7:58Speaker 1: to the clip.
- 8:00Speaker 2: I do.
- 8:01Speaker 1: I'm in full agreement with you. I worry about... really
- 8:05Speaker 1: the way that they're able to sustain, they looked great
- 8:08Speaker 1: to start the game last week. I wouldn't be surprised
- 8:11Speaker 1: if they come out and score on the first drive.
- 8:13Speaker 1: Not that's not even me doubting Oklahoma's defense, because I
- 8:15Speaker 1: do think it's one of the best in the country,
- 8:17Speaker 1: but they were really good scripted. And then when the
- 8:19Speaker 1: script went away, so did their, so did everything else
- 8:23Speaker 1: except for the guy running the clock. Where's the, where's the,
- 8:26Speaker 1: I mean, again, I, and I just mentioned Oklahoma's defense.
- 8:28Speaker 1: So maybe I just stole your answer, but I mean,
- 8:31Speaker 1: against a quarterback that doesn't look great right now, And
- 8:35Speaker 1: maybe he has regressed and wasn't perfect last week, last week,
- 8:39Speaker 1: last year either. Is the defense, the matchup, like, is
- 8:43Speaker 1: there one specific matchup where you say, man, like, this
- 8:45Speaker 1: is where I really feel good about this game?
- 8:49Speaker 3: I mean, as far as I. Michigan? Is that something
- 8:55Speaker 3: that feels good for them?
- 8:56Speaker 1: Something that Oklahoma does that you feel like is going
- 8:59Speaker 1: to be tough for Michigan to compensate for.
- 9:01Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, just the defense in general. Yeah, you gave
- 9:03Speaker 2: the answer perfectly.
- 9:04Speaker 3: It really is. It's the defense. Oklahoma's defense is.
- 9:08Speaker 2: Brent Venables is going to go out there and have
- 9:09Speaker 2: them boys prepare for just about anything. What they're going
- 9:12Speaker 2: to want to do is force Bryce Underwood to beat
- 9:14Speaker 2: them by throwing the ball a lot. And Bryce runs
- 9:17Speaker 2: the ball well. He ran for 47 yards in that
- 9:19Speaker 2: game against Western Michigan. He ran often against Oklahoma when
- 9:23Speaker 2: he was in Norman last year. They're going to want
- 9:25Speaker 2: that dude to throw the ball. And if he throws
- 9:26Speaker 2: the ball, it's not going to be a very good
- 9:28Speaker 2: game for him in throwing because this defensive line truly
- 9:31Speaker 2: is stout. And I think we may have added even
- 9:34Speaker 2: better edges this year. I think we've developed at another level.
- 9:38Speaker 3: In the edge play.
- 9:39Speaker 2: So pressure on the quarterback is going to definitely happen
- 9:43Speaker 2: a substantial amount in this game. What Michigan is going
- 9:46Speaker 2: to have to do is, which I kind of expect
- 9:47Speaker 2: them to do, they're going to try to force man
- 9:49Speaker 2: to man and go with some, uh, some max protect situations.
- 9:54Speaker 2: They're going to have to do whatever they can to
- 9:56Speaker 2: keep Underwood.
- 9:58Speaker 3: Uh, upright there.
- 9:59Speaker 2: We're be in that backfield often i don't know if
- 10:03Speaker 2: they're gonna be able to establish their run like they
- 10:04Speaker 2: want to that's the one thing that if that's their
- 10:06Speaker 2: saving grace in this game for michigan is to be
- 10:08Speaker 2: able to figure out how to get the run going
- 10:11Speaker 2: They couldn't even figure out how to get it against
- 10:12Speaker 2: Western Michigan. And if they couldn't get a push against them,
- 10:15Speaker 2: I don't see them getting a push against Oklahoma. So, yeah,
- 10:18Speaker 2: the defense itself is going to be it. And I
- 10:20Speaker 2: think the offense is going to be a lot more....
- 10:24Speaker 3: Patient in this game.
- 10:26Speaker 2: I don't think there'll be a bunch of the jitters
- 10:28Speaker 2: like it was last year, because that was really the
- 10:30Speaker 2: first time you got to see Mateer on the big
- 10:32Speaker 2: stage for real, for real.
- 10:34Speaker 3: And he delivered. Now this is year two. He's like,
- 10:37Speaker 3: I've done this before.
- 10:38Speaker 2: I've played in Tuscaloosa in front of 100,000. I played
- 10:41Speaker 2: in Knoxville in front of 100,000.
- 10:44Speaker 3: We good. Just go out there, play your game, make
- 10:47Speaker 3: it happen. I anticipate that one to go down.
- 10:50Speaker 1: Yeah. I, I mean, and a lot of people, I
- 10:52Speaker 1: don't know if they realize this when it happened, but
- 10:54Speaker 1: they certainly probably did toward the end of the year.
- 10:56Speaker 1: I mean, this game, you know, so much it'll be
- 10:58Speaker 1: made about how Michigan looked last week against Western Michigan, admittedly.
- 11:01Speaker 1: So like, you know, that was our first time getting
- 11:03Speaker 1: to see Kyle winning him in this new team play. Um, I,
- 11:08Speaker 1: this was a playoff game last year. If Oklahoma loses
- 11:11Speaker 1: this game, they finished nine and three. And I think
- 11:13Speaker 1: they're out. And if Michigan wins this game, they finished
- 11:16Speaker 1: 10 and two. And I think they're in. And, um,
- 11:19Speaker 1: Because at that point, going into the last week of
- 11:21Speaker 1: the season, Michigan would have been 10-1, and I don't
- 11:25Speaker 1: think the loss to No. 1 Ohio State would have
- 11:27Speaker 1: hurt them. This was a playoff game last year, and
- 11:31Speaker 1: I don't want to oversimplify it and say, oh, neither
- 11:34Speaker 1: team can come back, but you look at both their schedules,
- 11:37Speaker 1: and I think it would be really tough to lose
- 11:39Speaker 1: this game and still go to the playoff for both
- 11:41Speaker 1: these teams. Not that it can't happen, but Oklahoma still
- 11:46Speaker 1: has to play Texas. They still have to play in
- 11:48Speaker 1: the swamp. There's still a lot of tough stuff on
- 11:50Speaker 1: this schedule. And then the same thing for Michigan. They
- 11:53Speaker 1: still got to play Ohio State. They still got to
- 11:55Speaker 1: play Penn State. They still got to play Indiana. There's
- 11:58Speaker 1: a lot on both these schedules that, man, if you
- 12:00Speaker 1: drop this out of conference one, we already saw it
- 12:02Speaker 1: last year. This was a playoff game. This was a
- 12:04Speaker 1: play-in game, essentially. Now there's time, right? Oklahoma loses this
- 12:08Speaker 1: game and goes and beats Texas and goes and beats everybody. Yeah,
- 12:11Speaker 1: they'll be fine. But I think this is a massive one.
- 12:14Speaker 1: And I do. I mean, I like Michigan or I
- 12:16Speaker 1: like Oklahoma going up there and getting the win at
- 12:18Speaker 1: Michigan just because of how the two teams look to
- 12:21Speaker 1: start the year against similar level of competition. I do
- 12:24Speaker 1: think it's going to be a little bit different. I
- 12:26Speaker 1: like your call that it's probably going to be a
- 12:28Speaker 1: little closer than people expect. And people are saying, Hey,
- 12:30Speaker 1: why did Vegas only move the line that Vegas moved
- 12:33Speaker 1: the line in a big way? Because Michigan was a
- 12:34Speaker 1: favorite before this. And you know, why are they only
- 12:37Speaker 1: a five and a half, six and a half? What,
- 12:38Speaker 1: you know, I don't know where it's at right now
- 12:40Speaker 1: on a Wednesday morning, but like it's under a touchdown still,
- 12:42Speaker 1: I believe that's a, still a massive swing, man. Like,
- 12:45Speaker 1: you know, only moving at seven points. Only seven is
- 12:50Speaker 1: a crap ton. Let me keep it G-rated for Vegas.
- 12:54Speaker 1: But I kind of like Oklahoma by 10. I kind
- 12:57Speaker 1: of like them to salt it away a little bit
- 12:59Speaker 1: more than that. But it won't surprise me at all
- 13:01Speaker 1: if this is a game that is close in the
- 13:03Speaker 1: fourth quarter and Oklahoma edges out.
- 13:05Speaker 2: Yeah, I can expect Oklahoma to cover the spread. The
- 13:08Speaker 2: spread makes sense for Oklahoma to cover in it. But
- 13:10Speaker 2: at the same time, you're 100% right. I could see
- 13:13Speaker 2: 10 or less in this one. I could see it
- 13:15Speaker 2: being a seven-point game and Oklahoma barely– Covers it. And
- 13:19Speaker 2: it's more so because Oklahoma just takes their time the
- 13:21Speaker 2: entire game. Like, there's no urgency in going out there
- 13:23Speaker 2: and just blowing them out. What the urgency is is
- 13:25Speaker 2: winning the game. You need to get the W because
- 13:27Speaker 2: you're right.
- 13:27Speaker 3: It's really– this.
- 13:29Speaker 2: Game could have been a play– this game was a
- 13:32Speaker 2: determining factor of who makes it to the playoffs and
- 13:34Speaker 2: who didn't. I see about four toss-up games in Oklahoma's schedule. So, yeah,
- 13:39Speaker 2: that's where a challenge comes in for them is if
- 13:42Speaker 2: you lose this one, there's a possibility you could end
- 13:45Speaker 2: up 9-3, right?
- 13:46Speaker 3: On the season.
- 13:47Speaker 2: There's a lot of really good teams on the schedule.
- 13:49Speaker 2: While at the same time, you win this, you can
- 13:52Speaker 2: end up going 12-0 in some capacities because there's so
- 13:55Speaker 2: many games that are toss-ups that I give respect to
- 13:59Speaker 2: the opposition on.
- 14:01Speaker 3: But yeah, this spread.
- 14:02Speaker 2: Jumping the way it did, opened at two and a half,
- 14:04Speaker 2: and now it's five and a half on some books.
- 14:06Speaker 2: Some books is six and a half. Some are dropping
- 14:09Speaker 2: back to five and a half because people are buying
- 14:10Speaker 2: it back down because people are hammering Michigan now. I
- 14:15Speaker 2: think Michigan's starting to get more love because they're like,
- 14:18Speaker 2: that's a massive swing. There's no way. Vegas does know something.
- 14:22Speaker 2: That's why they jumped it up so high and so fast.
- 14:25Speaker 2: I mean, from five and a half, if they played
- 14:28Speaker 2: in Oklahoma, are you telling me that Oklahoma's a double-digit
- 14:31Speaker 2: favorite in Norman now? That is insane, which tells me, oh,
- 14:36Speaker 2: Oklahoma should be able to win this one. To me,
- 14:38Speaker 2: the score most likely is going to be closer to
- 14:40Speaker 2: what it was when they played South Carolina last year,
- 14:42Speaker 2: 24-9 type range. Let them score a touchdown, they go
- 14:46Speaker 2: for a two and don't make it, and they get
- 14:47Speaker 2: a field goal. Something in that range, Oklahoma takes the
- 14:51Speaker 2: lead early and never gives it up. That is the
- 14:54Speaker 2: range area I'm thinking.
- 14:55Speaker 3: It's going to be.
- 14:56Speaker 2: Michigan still has talented players, and they still have a
- 15:00Speaker 2: very talented head coach as well as defensive coordinator. Brent
- 15:03Speaker 2: Venables even went up to Utah and hung out with Kyle,
- 15:06Speaker 2: and they spent a few hours together talking ball and
- 15:08Speaker 2: sharing ideas. So.
- 15:10Speaker 3: Winningham has an.
- 15:11Speaker 2: Idea of what Brent Venables is going to want to
- 15:14Speaker 2: do out there defensively while at the same time, BV
- 15:17Speaker 2: evolves constantly. He pulls stuff from all of his coaches.
- 15:20Speaker 2: That's why he's got an entire staff of defensive coordinators
- 15:24Speaker 2: running his position groups, which is kind of wild if
- 15:26Speaker 2: you really think about it. All those majority of his
- 15:29Speaker 2: defensive staff are former DCs. So with that, teaching is
- 15:33Speaker 2: always better. But yeah, that spread... It's rat poison, man.
- 15:38Speaker 2: Just go out there, win this flipping game, and push
- 15:41Speaker 2: them around.
- 15:43Speaker 1: Yeah, if Michigan's going to stay in this, I don't
- 15:46Speaker 1: have a lot of, you know, we'll see. They've had
- 15:48Speaker 1: a week to work on things. I don't have a
- 15:50Speaker 1: lot of confidence in their offense just going out and
- 15:54Speaker 1: lighting it up. Now, if they do, I'll be more
- 15:58Speaker 1: than happy to get over on the other channel, over
- 16:00Speaker 1: on the big 10 channel and eat crow. And I'll
- 16:02Speaker 1: come back here and need some too. But I, I
- 16:04Speaker 1: do think if Michigan is going to stay in this,
- 16:05Speaker 1: it is their defense. And so I'm very intrigued to
- 16:08Speaker 1: see if Oklahoma's offense has taken that step. Cause yeah, sure.
- 16:12Speaker 1: You can do it against UTEP, but I want to
- 16:13Speaker 1: see the step from last year to this year. And
- 16:16Speaker 1: I want to see them go in and not that
- 16:17Speaker 1: I'm expecting, Oh, you got to go score 30 points. No,
- 16:19Speaker 1: I mean, I think you get to 24 and you
- 16:21Speaker 1: win this game and you may, you may not even
- 16:23Speaker 1: need that much if Michigan continues to struggle offensively, but
- 16:26Speaker 1: I do want to see that offense look a little
- 16:28Speaker 1: more competent, a little, Obviously, Mateer's health played into all
- 16:31Speaker 1: that last year, too. So I'm not saying that they
- 16:34Speaker 1: were terrible on the offensive side of the ball. But
- 16:36Speaker 1: I still think this is a good Michigan defense. And
- 16:38Speaker 1: you're going on the road and you're playing in the
- 16:39Speaker 1: big house where, man, nothing will energize a team more
- 16:43Speaker 1: than whether they deserved it or not getting a walk-off
- 16:46Speaker 1: win in the fashion they did. And I do. I
- 16:48Speaker 1: think they'll come out and play with a little more energy.
- 16:50Speaker 1: I think this will be a fun game for at
- 16:51Speaker 1: least a half. I expect Oklahoma to eventually pull away
- 16:55Speaker 1: and not be in super big doubt But again, I
- 16:58Speaker 1: want to see their offense go out and compete against
- 17:00Speaker 1: one of the better defenses that they'll play. And it's
- 17:02Speaker 1: a good preview for the rest of the year where
- 17:05Speaker 1: you're going to play a really good defense in Athens.
- 17:07Speaker 1: And then you're going to play a really good defense
- 17:08Speaker 1: in the red river. And then you're going to play
- 17:10Speaker 1: a really good defense when you go into the swamp.
- 17:12Speaker 1: And then you're going to play a really good defense.
- 17:14Speaker 1: When Texas A & M comes, it's like you, you
- 17:16Speaker 1: get good defenses all year. Go show me that you
- 17:18Speaker 1: can do it up in the big house on the road.
- 17:21Speaker 1: Go get that. Maybe what might be a play in
- 17:23Speaker 1: game for later in the year. If the offense can
- 17:26Speaker 1: take a little bit of a step, over last year,
- 17:29Speaker 1: and just be a little more consistent, if they can
- 17:31Speaker 1: stay healthy, I think they'll go on the road and
- 17:33Speaker 1: get a win by, I don't know, 7-10. I'm kind
- 17:36Speaker 1: of in the same line as you. I like Oklahoma here.
- 17:39Speaker 1: But again, football's weird, and weird things happen, and we'll
- 17:43Speaker 1: see what happens on Saturday. But do you have a score?
- 17:45Speaker 1: Do you have final thoughts here?
- 17:47Speaker 2: Yeah, so looking at this game, the odds are, of course...
- 17:53Speaker 2: Just crazy. The total in this game is like 43.5.
- 17:58Speaker 2: So the anticipation is this is going to be a
- 18:01Speaker 2: defensive battle. It's going to be a low-scoring game. But
- 18:04Speaker 2: one team is going to prevail more than the other.
- 18:06Speaker 2: I'm thinking that on that over-under-ish number in the 45 range,
- 18:12Speaker 2: I think it'll probably be closer to 40 in the
- 18:14Speaker 2: score of this one. Unless Oklahoma goes out there and
- 18:18Speaker 2: they really just run it down their throat. If Oklahoma
- 18:20Speaker 2: goes down there and run it down their throat, Cancel Christmas.
- 18:25Speaker 2: Season might be over. Michigan's defense is good enough to
- 18:28Speaker 2: be able to stop that. If Oklahoma figures that part out,
- 18:30Speaker 2: it's over. They're going to probably start doing that to
- 18:32Speaker 2: everybody this season. My score prediction in this one, I'm
- 18:36Speaker 2: thinking 27-9. I think Oklahoma does win this game. I
- 18:41Speaker 2: think it's less than 40 points. I think that Oklahoma just...
- 18:45Speaker 2: Bully balls their way to this W, takes their time,
- 18:48Speaker 2: get the points that they need, and then the defense
- 18:51Speaker 2: prevents them.
- 18:51Speaker 3: From really getting on the field.
- 18:52Speaker 2: I really do feel like it's going to be a
- 18:53Speaker 2: lot of long drives like Western Michigan got, a lot
- 18:56Speaker 2: of first downs, and just consistent driving of the ball
- 19:00Speaker 2: down the field and getting points. If they do that
- 19:03Speaker 2: where it's just slow and methodical, I'm satisfied. Because that
- 19:07Speaker 2: means that you'll be prepared to play against a team
- 19:10Speaker 2: like Georgia, who is Yeah, I'm nervous about that game
- 19:13Speaker 2: because Georgia's choked themselves to be really, really– they got
- 19:16Speaker 2: another one, man.
- 19:17Speaker 3: We got to talk about Georgia soon.
- 19:19Speaker 2: We will.
- 19:20Speaker 1: We will. Well, in two weeks. And then two weeks
- 19:23Speaker 1: after that, Texas. You know, here's the– you know, this
- 19:26Speaker 1: is a big picture. This isn't really on the game.
- 19:28Speaker 1: But people, if you're watching 20 minutes in, then I
- 19:31Speaker 1: guess you don't mind hearing us ramble and hearing– you know,
- 19:34Speaker 1: people actually have told me they like the rasp a
- 19:36Speaker 1: little bit more. And I'm like, well, I don't because
- 19:37Speaker 1: it hurts. But I just keep drinking black coffee. I–
- 19:43Speaker 1: I think that there's a chance. We learn everything we
- 19:46Speaker 1: need to know about Michigan over the next four weeks. Five,
- 19:49Speaker 1: I guess, because there's a bunch. Or I'm sorry, Oklahoma.
- 19:53Speaker 1: We are going to know one way or the other.
- 19:56Speaker 1: And that's what it comes down to. I think ultimately,
- 20:00Speaker 1: if you're Oklahoma, you need to go on the road
- 20:01Speaker 1: and get this win against Michigan. And then at worst,
- 20:03Speaker 1: you need to split the big two there to finish
- 20:07Speaker 1: September and start October. And if you do that, I
- 20:10Speaker 1: think you're a playoff team. If you don't, then I
- 20:11Speaker 1: think you're probably hoping for a little bit of a luck. Well,
- 20:15Speaker 1: I mean, obviously if you go one and two in
- 20:16Speaker 1: that stretch, then you're fine. But if you win everything else,
- 20:20Speaker 1: but man, I I'm intrigued by Oklahoma this year. Cause
- 20:23Speaker 1: I feel like a lot of people are falling off
- 20:24Speaker 1: of the belief. A lot of people point to the schedule,
- 20:27Speaker 1: but a lot of people did that last year too.
- 20:29Speaker 1: And they still went 10 and two and still one
- 20:30Speaker 1: in Tuscaloosa. And so, you know, doubt doubt Brevinables in
- 20:34Speaker 1: this defense at your own peril. So Jay, where can
- 20:37Speaker 1: people follow you, man? Where can they find your work?
- 20:39Speaker 1: What you got coming this week? All those things.
