- 0:02When we learn how to work with the energy of our heart space,
- 0:05not only do we invite in more love and possibility into our lives,
- 0:09but we actually change our perception and our ability to commune with meaning.
- 0:24Hello and welcome back to Remember Why You Are Here,
- 0:27a podcast for seekers and sensitives where you can relax, receive,
- 0:32reconnect to yourself, and remember the most important thing of all,
- 0:36why you're here.
- 0:38In this episode leading up to Valentine's Day,
- 0:42I thought I would revisit one of my favorite videos I've made called
- 0:47Earth as Valentine. So in this episode,
- 0:52we're going to step into a framing,
- 0:54a way of looking at the earth that helps you to connect in an even
- 0:59deeper way,
- 1:01this way of seeing our earth as your valentine.
- 1:05It's really one of the sweetest things I think I've made,
- 1:08and I'm excited about revisiting it because it always helps me in this season
- 1:13where we are so focused on romantic love to expand that
- 1:18romance into the lives we're leading,
- 1:20into the relationship that we have with this planet and to really
- 1:25create more romance in our lives because if we can have a romance with the
- 1:30earth, we can have romance at any second, at any time. In English,
- 1:35we really only have one word for love,
- 1:37but I think a lot about in the ancient Greek,
- 1:39how there's this whole vocabulary to describe the wondrous variety of love that
- 1:44we can experience on this planet. There's philia for friendship love,
- 1:48and storge for the love of one's kin.
- 1:50And then of course there's the infamous eros,
- 1:53that burning passion that we're used to seeing on valentine's day cards and
- 1:57such. But then beyond all these loves, there was agape.
- 2:02And for the ancient Greeks,
- 2:03agape was this expression of pure unconditional love.
- 2:06It's a word for love that's boundless in its kindness and compassion and divine
- 2:10warmth. When we're in agape,
- 2:12we're connected to the reality at the heart of all existence,
- 2:16the knowledge that we're loved without condition. In agape,
- 2:19we can know just how precious we are and we can feel how profoundly we're held
- 2:23by a wider benevolence.
- 2:25I feel like we don't have that many experiences of agape these days in our
- 2:29culture,
- 2:29partially because we've cut ourselves off from the wellspring of agape that
- 2:34exists beneath our feet, this relationship with the earth.
- 2:38So regardless of whether or not I've had a sweetheart on Valentine's Day,
- 2:42I've always loved celebrating Valentine's Day. I just can't help it.
- 2:45I'm such like a goon for this day.
- 2:48I'll do things like just leaving myself flowers in the morning or surprising my
- 2:52coworkers with chocolates.
- 2:54But really a lot changed for me when I started seeing the earth as my valentine.
- 2:58And on a very real level,
- 3:00the earth is the valentine who will never stop sending you flowers.
- 3:03So you can put that on your little altar for this month.
- 3:08The earth really is agape itself. No matter what we do or where we go,
- 3:12we're unconditionally held by this planet.
- 3:14No matter how far we stray from the perceived path, the earth is there.
- 3:18Bringing us honey to sweeten our existence.
- 3:20And I'm so grateful for this ability to reframe the earth as beloved.
- 3:25So if you're interested in that, that framing,
- 3:29if you want to create a Valentine's Day based around
- 3:34earth connection and earth ritual,
- 3:36then definitely stay tuned for this sweet little Valentine's Day
- 3:40episode. But before we hop into this episode,
- 3:43I wanted to let you know about a really exciting event coming up.
- 3:47And that is the 2026 Virtual Herbalism Conference put on
- 3:52by the Herbal Academy.
- 3:54This event is like not to be missed if you are interested in
- 3:59herbalism,
- 4:00if you want to study with some of the top teachers in the whole world.
- 4:05Like my favorite herbalists ever are speaking at this
- 4:09event. This event runs from February 15th to the 20th,
- 4:13and it's completely free,
- 4:14which is bonkers because when I think about how much money and time I used
- 4:19to spend going to herbal conferences around the country,
- 4:22I'm honestly in shock that you can sign up for this and just access all
- 4:27these talks completely for free with just some of the most incredible herbalists
- 4:32on the planet. And so I am speaking as a part of the conference.
- 4:36My talk is on Tuesday, February 17th,
- 4:38and it's entitled Green Whispers and Wisdom: Soul Lessons from Plant Encounters.
- 4:43And I would absolutely love to see you there.
- 4:46So if you're interested in a six-day conference with topics
- 4:50ranging from medicinal mushrooms to everyday herbalism for families,
- 4:55energetic patterns of diseases, to lessons from a curandera,
- 5:00ancient healing traditions,
- 5:02and ways of connecting with the plants that really help you open up new
- 5:07eras of being in your life.
- 5:09So I'm super stoked to be a part of this and it would be awesome to connect with
- 5:14you there.
- 5:14So I'm going to put the link for that below if you would like to sign up,
- 5:19if you want to receive all of these incredible teachings for free,
- 5:23and I'll see you there. Okay,
- 5:26so let's go ahead and get into this episode now,
- 5:29this episode entitled The Earth is Your Valentine.
- 5:33And cozy in, maybe get a box of chocolates,
- 5:36because this is a very cute and very fun one. Here we go.
- 5:41We hear the phrase the earth is your mother all the time.
- 5:45That's really beautiful,
- 5:47but sometimes I wonder what would happen if we saw the earth as our lover
- 5:51instead. What if the earth was our beloved?
- 5:54How would we treat the earth then?
- 5:57As we come into this Valentine's Day month,
- 6:00I think it's worth a reframing and a shift of our mindset to think
- 6:05about this earth as our ultimate valentine.
- 6:08This is my ultimate reframing of the earth as your valentine.
- 6:14There's so many different ways that we can connect to the earth.
- 6:18Earth as caretaker, earth as source, earth as companion,
- 6:23and of course, earth as lover.
- 6:26A lot of times people roll their eyes at this month of February and Valentine's
- 6:30Day,
- 6:31but there's really so many different ways we can work with this invitation to
- 6:34give and share love.
- 6:36And one of those ways is to invite the earth to be your valentine.
- 6:40There's a whole movement called ecosexuality that is looking at reframing
- 6:45this idea of earth as mother as earth as lover,
- 6:48specifically because of the ways in which we often mistreat our mother and are
- 6:52mistreating our mother the earth. What would happen if this was our lover?
- 6:56How would we treat the earth differently?
- 6:58This movement was really started by performance artists and activists,
- 7:03Annie Sprinkle and Elizabeth (Beth) Stephens.
- 7:05I encourage you to check out their work if you're interested in learning more.
- 7:09One of the things that they suggest that I want to suggest to you as a practice
- 7:14on this Valentine's Day is to make love to the earth.
- 7:18And there's so many ways to do that.
- 7:20One of the ways to do that is just to go outside and tell the earth,
- 7:24"I love you." In fact, how much more sense does it make to say to the earth,
- 7:28"I love you and I can't live without you," than it does to any person.
- 7:32This is the truth. We can't live without the earth. So express this.
- 7:37You might even want to write a love poem to the earth and speak it out loud.
- 7:41You could hug a tree or immerse yourself in a pile of leaves.
- 7:45This kind of intimacy, touch and engagement is another way of loving this earth.
- 7:50I also think there's something about learning how to love the earth.
- 7:54It helps us to learn how to love our bodies.
- 7:57Because truly our bodies are the earth.
- 8:00We are nature. And when we feel a disconnect from our bodies,
- 8:05this naturally can translate into a disconnection from the earth.
- 8:08Learning how to love the earth, love the body of the earth,
- 8:12helps us to love our bodies, this earth that we inhabit.
- 8:16So as an act of self-compassion and self-love this Valentine's Day,
- 8:21one of the things that you can do in honor of the earth is to honor your body.
- 8:26Maybe you would even want to create an earth temple out of your body,
- 8:31anointing yourself with infused oils or using diffused essential oils on certain
- 8:35parts of your body.
- 8:36How can you love up on the different parts of yourself as a way to
- 8:42metaphorically and holographically love up on the earth itself?
- 8:47So how can you dote on yourself?
- 8:49Can you take some time on your feet and meditate on the roots of this world?
- 8:53Can you spend a luxurious amount of time washing your hair and really send
- 8:58out love for our atmosphere? Love up on your body,
- 9:02and this is one way to love up on the earth.
- 9:05One of my favorite practices to do every single Valentine's Day is to give
- 9:08flowers to the earth. So where I live,
- 9:12there normally aren't flowers blooming on Valentine's Day,
- 9:16and yet there are so many flowers being given.
- 9:19So if I receive flowers for Valentine's Day,
- 9:22I will often keep them around in my house. And once they start to fade,
- 9:27instead of throwing them out or putting them in the compost,
- 9:30I bring them outside and I arrange them in a beautiful way for the earth.
- 9:34You could also take whole flower heads and separate the petals and spread them
- 9:38out at the roots of a tree.
- 9:41Another thing you can do is actually go to your local supermarket and ask them
- 9:45if they have any flowers that they're throwing away. This day,
- 9:49Valentine's Day is such a big flower holiday,
- 9:52that often the supermarkets are overstocking with these flowers and so many of
- 9:56them get thrown out.
- 9:58So you can actually go a few days after Valentine's Day or in the week after and
- 10:02ask them,
- 10:03"Do you have any flowers that you are throwing out because they're past their
- 10:07peak?" And you can take those flowers home and create something truly beautiful
- 10:11for the earth around your home.
- 10:14The last suggestion is to go on an earth date this Valentine's Day. Now,
- 10:18it might be cold where you are, so this might not be a whole day outside,
- 10:23but instead of planning a fancy dinner,
- 10:26what if you plan to go have a picnic outside?
- 10:30Or instead of planning to go to the movies, what if you took a long walk?
- 10:35If you were going to go on a date with your beloved, the earth,
- 10:38what would you like to do? How do you like to spend time together?
- 10:42Just initiating intimacy on this day of love with the earth can help
- 10:47reprogram your brain to see the earth as your beloved,
- 10:52as someone that you cherish and as someone that cherishes and takes care of you
- 10:56day in, day out.
- 10:59So much of being able to reframe this way of seeing the earth and ourselves
- 11:04is all about opening our hearts.
- 11:07And a lot of people don't realize that our hearts are actual gates,
- 11:10that when we learn how to work with the energy of our heart space,
- 11:14not only do we invite in more love and possibility into our lives,
- 11:18but we actually change our perception and our ability to commune with meaning.
- 11:23So if you're interested in this idea of opening the heartgate,
- 11:27you can check out my online class, Herbs for the Heartgate,
- 11:31where we talk about specific plants that can help you connect into this space of
- 11:35perception, magic, and possibility. So with that, lovers,
- 11:40I hope you have a wonderful Valentine's Day.
- 11:45So really listening to this actually may be really inspired for Valentine's Day
- 11:48next week with my daughter, who is now four years old,
- 11:52the kind of rituals that we can do together to really help her ground in
- 11:57feeling the earth as her valentine.
- 12:00Valentine's Day has taken on a whole new dimension for me since becoming a
- 12:03mother and creating and cultivating that kind of love and agape between your
- 12:07child and the earth is just so special.
- 12:09So I think we're probably going to bring some flowers outside and create a
- 12:14little altar out there and just thank the earth for all the ways in which she
- 12:18holds us.
- 12:18So if you were inspired by this episode and you end up doing some
- 12:23sort of Earth as Valentine ritual, I would love to hear about it.
- 12:27You can leave me a message over on my website,
- 12:30asiasuler.com/remember. That's my voicemail service.
- 12:35I love getting little messages and love notes from you there.
- 12:39And I'm just sending you so much love and coziness and blossoming
- 12:44for this Valentine's Day ahead and for the weeks ahead.
- 12:48And if you do end up at that virtual herbal conference,
- 12:52I hope you receive so much from that experience and I'm excited to see you
- 12:56there. So until next time, may so much agape flow your way,
- 13:02may the earth just continue to unfold new layers of becoming and
- 13:06blossoming for you in this life.
- 13:09And may you remember that most important thing of all,
- 13:13why you're here.
