A Navy destroyer, the USS Benfold, faced a major crisis in the South China Sea when a power failure crippled its systems for four days—no toilets, no AC, no hot meals, and questionable water. Crews showed remarkable grit while another ship, the USS Robert Smalls, delivered meals and tugboats towed the vessel to Subic Bay for repairs. Power was restored by August 7th, and the ship returned to duty the next day.
