- 0:00Speaker 1: When you turn forty, it's like, okay, you know I
- 0:02Speaker 1: have to kind of stop or start to slow down
- 0:05Speaker 1: putting some bad things in my dad.
- 0:06Speaker 2: It's kind of we structure, make some small.
- 0:10Speaker 1: Changes that really help you to feel good, help your
- 0:15Speaker 1: skin be healthy, have energy.
- 0:22Speaker 3: Welcome moms, Welcome inside the Mom's Club. I'm your host,
- 0:25Speaker 3: Monica Samuels, and I'm here with my.
- 0:27Speaker 4: Co host Julie or get aloe. Julie, Hey, how are
- 0:30Speaker 4: you a friend and host? I am good.
- 0:32Speaker 3: I've had kind of a wild time lately, and there's
- 0:36Speaker 3: a lot of stories I can tell, but I'm going
- 0:37Speaker 3: to share one. Yes, because you know, you went to
- 0:40Speaker 3: the Grand Canyon and hiked the Grand Canyon and you
- 0:42Speaker 3: weren't ready for it.
- 0:43Speaker 4: No, not happy if we're not out there, and I.
- 0:49Speaker 3: Not even tease you about it, but oh please, I mean,
- 0:52Speaker 3: I mean, but well, I did something that was even
- 0:57Speaker 3: it was so ridiculous. So I was My husband had
- 1:00Speaker 3: a meeting at in Las Vegas at the wynd Hotel,
- 1:03Speaker 3: which is a sixty story hotel. We were on floor
- 1:06Speaker 3: twenty eight and it was a giant conference, so there
- 1:09Speaker 3: was lots of people trying.
- 1:11Speaker 4: To get on the elevator. Yeah, and I was just there,
- 1:13Speaker 4: now do whatever. Yeah.
- 1:15Speaker 3: So I was there and I got impatient waiting for
- 1:17Speaker 3: the elevator one day, so I thought, I will take
- 1:20Speaker 3: the stairs. I will walk down twenty eight flights of stairs.
- 1:26Speaker 4: And that is a long way, lady.
- 1:28Speaker 3: So you know, at floor fourteen, I thought this was
- 1:32Speaker 3: really a bad idea. But it got worse because then
- 1:35Speaker 3: when I got to the bottom, there.
- 1:37Speaker 4: Were all these corridors. So I'm like, up and down
- 1:39Speaker 4: these corridors and there's signs everywhere.
- 1:41Speaker 5: That say, please don't be here unless you work here.
- 1:44Speaker 3: Kind of well, I said, relax, stay calm. So I
- 1:47Speaker 3: knew this was really the exit for the fire, you know, right.
- 1:51Speaker 3: I ended up in the loading dock and then I
- 1:55Speaker 3: had security come and get.
- 1:56Speaker 4: Me, I mean Monica, And then I had to go
- 2:00Speaker 4: up a ramp the parking garage to get back into
- 2:02Speaker 4: the building.
- 2:02Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 2:02Speaker 4: I was so sore I could not walk for several days.
- 2:07Speaker 5: I was not in good totally relate to this.
- 2:10Speaker 4: It was terrible.
- 2:11Speaker 5: So but I think it woke us up.
- 2:14Speaker 3: To the fact that we need to totally one hundred
- 2:18Speaker 3: percent get in shape. I used to be more in
- 2:20Speaker 3: shape all the time, but now I'm like fully committed
- 2:23Speaker 3: on everything.
- 2:24Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, but at least at a minimum, take
- 2:28Speaker 5: care of yourself and pay attention to your body. Like
- 2:30Speaker 5: that's that's what I learned.
- 2:32Speaker 3: And do it the smart way, right, because there's a
- 2:34Speaker 3: smart way, and then there's the easy way.
- 2:37Speaker 4: Which cannot well, so like, look at this way.
- 2:40Speaker 3: Why Because of some health issues, my doctor put me
- 2:44Speaker 3: on a GLP one and it's not just to lose weight.
- 2:46Speaker 3: It was for other issues, and so I've been doing that,
- 2:51Speaker 3: but I also I've been doing something else that I'm not. Oh,
- 2:58Speaker 3: my husband, okay, this is a whole different thing. When
- 3:00Speaker 3: I try and close, I've been having trouble, like tightening
- 3:04Speaker 3: my belt or get you know, certain things are not
- 3:06Speaker 3: fitting in that one area in your you know, your stomach.
- 3:11Speaker 3: I've got this one little area of fact. And he
- 3:13Speaker 3: always looks at it and says, it's easy. All you
- 3:16Speaker 3: have to do is get LiPo. Section just go get LiPo.
- 3:19Speaker 3: And I don't want to do that. First of all,
- 3:22Speaker 3: I feel like I'd be the one who'd everybody come
- 3:25Speaker 3: to my funeral.
- 3:26Speaker 4: And say Monica was not so vain.
- 3:29Speaker 3: We would not have to be here right now, So
- 3:32Speaker 3: I don't want to do that either, so you got
- 3:34Speaker 3: to do it really smart, you know.
- 3:36Speaker 5: Yeah, there's no easy track to this by any means.
- 3:39Speaker 5: I will say, I can feel your pain. As far
- 3:41Speaker 5: as that hike went, I still can't talk about it,
- 3:44Speaker 5: but you know, I'm here, I'm alive, and I can
- 3:47Speaker 5: tell you that for the last six or seven months,
- 3:51Speaker 5: my whole body and frame has changed, meaning I can't
- 3:56Speaker 5: control it like before. I used to be able to
- 3:59Speaker 5: control it with certain things and as far as you know,
- 4:02Speaker 5: diet or whatever, but now it's like cortosol spike, you know,
- 4:07Speaker 5: different visceral fat. So I'm kind of like that has
- 4:11Speaker 5: been a mission for at least at least well over
- 4:15Speaker 5: eight weeks I have been People are like, what are
- 4:18Speaker 5: you doing? And I was like, I'm working out.
- 4:21Speaker 4: Yeah, fully committed.
- 4:23Speaker 5: Yeah yeah, like I put it above everything else.
- 4:26Speaker 4: You've been lifting weights, right? I have been a strength
- 4:29Speaker 4: program because I was recruited.
- 4:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:31Speaker 4: I think they give a discount if you're for a friend.
- 4:33Speaker 4: I don't know, but they do.
- 4:36Speaker 3: Yeah, Okay, which is totally fine because I think that's
- 4:38Speaker 3: what I need to You know, I will If you lose.
- 4:41Speaker 5: Your strength, you lose everything. I don't want to call
- 4:43Speaker 5: the girls and be like, hey, you got to come
- 4:45Speaker 5: take care of your mom or whatever. You just feel
- 4:47Speaker 5: a lot more confident, You feel a lot more powerful,
- 4:50Speaker 5: and you feel in control. So if you don't have
- 4:52Speaker 5: those things and it's out of whack, then your day
- 4:55Speaker 5: is screwy.
- 4:56Speaker 4: Exactly. Well, let's get it all back in whack. You're
- 4:59Speaker 4: doing good. You're in a good job.
- 5:00Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm not, by any means an expert at it
- 5:03Speaker 5: or but I've had some you know, great success, so
- 5:06Speaker 5: I'm excited.
- 5:07Speaker 3: Well, and that's why we're fortunate today to have an
- 5:09Speaker 3: expert with us. She is a nutritionist and founder of
- 5:13Speaker 3: you Fortified Lifestyle, a wellness focused marketing platform centered on food,
- 5:18Speaker 3: plant based lifestyle and culture. She started you Fortified when
- 5:22Speaker 3: she turned forty to help women age better from the
- 5:26Speaker 3: inside and out. Please welcome, Darren Mayer. Welcome to the
- 5:29Speaker 3: Mom's Club. Happy to have you here.
- 5:32Speaker 2: Thank you so much, so good to be here. Thank
- 5:34Speaker 2: you so much for having me.
- 5:36Speaker 4: Yeah, thank you.
- 5:37Speaker 2: I love the Mom's Club.
- 5:39Speaker 3: Well we do too, We're big fans, so well. Welcome
- 5:42Speaker 3: and tell us about you Fortified. Tell us how you
- 5:45Speaker 3: started this, because it's from what I just introduced you
- 5:48Speaker 3: You were forty.
- 5:49Speaker 1: And Fortified is a media content and an experienced platform
- 5:55Speaker 1: that I created when I turned forty.
- 5:56Speaker 2: And I've always been into health.
- 5:59Speaker 1: I actually had skin character when I was thirty, and
- 6:01Speaker 1: that sparked and interested me to really look at what
- 6:03Speaker 1: I was.
- 6:04Speaker 2: Eating and how I was living.
- 6:05Speaker 1: And then I started You Fortified and I turned forty
- 6:08Speaker 1: as a way to navigate and.
- 6:12Speaker 7: Explore products, services, lifestyle to help age well, age better,
- 6:20Speaker 7: but make it sustainable, approachable, and enjoyable.
- 6:25Speaker 1: Because you know, you have to enjoy what you do.
- 6:28Speaker 1: You have to enjoy what you eat, you have to
- 6:29Speaker 1: enjoy how you move, and if you don't, you're not
- 6:33Speaker 1: going to sustain it.
- 6:34Speaker 2: So that was You Fortified. And then I went back
- 6:37Speaker 2: to school for nutrition and I realized also that you
- 6:41Speaker 2: need your body.
- 6:43Speaker 1: What you put in your body is the foundation for
- 6:45Speaker 1: everything else that you put on it, that you do
- 6:48Speaker 1: to feel.
- 6:50Speaker 2: Good, look good, make your clothes fit.
- 6:53Speaker 1: So it's really an integrated approach to modern healthy living.
- 6:57Speaker 3: And it's that's great, and that's and we definitely need that.
- 7:02Speaker 5: Why forty, Darren, Why forty?
- 7:07Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 7:07Speaker 5: Like what hit.
- 7:09Speaker 2: Your body starts to change me?
- 7:10Speaker 1: It starts to change as you age in the twenties thirties,
- 7:13Speaker 1: but you know, turn forty, it's like, okay, you know
- 7:16Speaker 1: I have to kind of stop or start to slow
- 7:18Speaker 1: down putting some bad things in my dad. It's kind
- 7:20Speaker 1: of restructure, make some small changes that really help you
- 7:26Speaker 1: to feel good, help your skin be healthy, have energy.
- 7:32Speaker 1: And you know, as you age into your fifties and sixties,
- 7:35Speaker 1: you know you kind of carry what you start with
- 7:37Speaker 1: you and you know, things change and there's just little
- 7:41Speaker 1: ways that you can modify. But it's all about personalization.
- 7:46Speaker 1: It's all about you know, what works for me, Like
- 7:48Speaker 1: everybody is different. Every person is different, So it's what works.
- 7:52Speaker 1: It's I vet hundreds of products and you know, trends
- 7:57Speaker 1: and services and technology and really bring to the forefront
- 8:03Speaker 1: what is excellent and that what is transparent and they're
- 8:07Speaker 1: they're labeling and their messaging and their claims and really
- 8:10Speaker 1: what would work for people at all different levels, because
- 8:14Speaker 1: like I said, everybody is different and special.
- 8:17Speaker 3: Well, I want to explore all of that. Let's start
- 8:19Speaker 3: with since we're the Mom's Club. You mentioned that forty year,
- 8:23Speaker 3: your body's changing and you're going to do certain things
- 8:26Speaker 3: you lead up to that point when you're a child.
- 8:28Speaker 3: It all kind of starts when you're a child. What
- 8:30Speaker 3: your parents get you to eat, how much they get
- 8:33Speaker 3: you to exercise. When I was a kid, every lunch,
- 8:36Speaker 3: I don't even know if they still sell them, but
- 8:38Speaker 3: every school lunch I had, I had a ding dog,
- 8:40Speaker 3: I mean the healthy breed, and and I never even
- 8:45Speaker 3: thought about it, you know, And so chees a little Debbie.
- 8:48Speaker 3: I had Cheetos and ding Dongs growing up, And so
- 8:50Speaker 3: it's kind of hard to go and I would and
- 8:52Speaker 3: I would order at McDonald's. I still remember what my
- 8:54Speaker 3: order always was a quarter pounder with cheese and a shake.
- 8:59Speaker 4: That's all terrible. And now I realized that was bad.
- 9:02Speaker 5: Not of your big documentaries about that.
- 9:04Speaker 3: I know, so, but maybe someday about me as well.
- 9:07Speaker 3: So how do you instill in your kids? Let's start
- 9:09Speaker 3: with our kids. How do we make how do we
- 9:11Speaker 3: help them start good habits and eat well and exercise? Like,
- 9:16Speaker 3: what do you suggest for moms out there trying to
- 9:19Speaker 3: inspire their kids to be healthy?
- 9:21Speaker 2: Well, first of all, you do it.
- 9:23Speaker 1: You can inspire your kids by being a role model
- 9:25Speaker 1: for your kids, and you make it fun and enjoyable
- 9:29Speaker 1: for kids to kind of you know, go to the
- 9:31Speaker 1: supermarket with you or or you know, if you're ordering online,
- 9:33Speaker 1: pick out the products that they want. You know, maybe
- 9:36Speaker 1: it's what what you know, what are these colorful fruits
- 9:39Speaker 1: would you like.
- 9:39Speaker 2: To have today?
- 9:40Speaker 1: You know, Johnny, So getting them engaged, and you don't
- 9:44Speaker 1: want them to feel though that they can't have something
- 9:47Speaker 1: right because like you know, then that's like not good,
- 9:50Speaker 1: it's restrict I don't believe in restrictions.
- 9:52Speaker 2: But what you want to do is make it healthier.
- 9:54Speaker 1: So you know, if you go to McDonald's and you know,
- 9:57Speaker 1: once a month or once a few whatever, however you
- 10:00Speaker 1: do it, you know, trying to order them something that's healthier,
- 10:04Speaker 1: or getting a burger and maybe you're bringing your own
- 10:07Speaker 1: bread and you're replacing that bread, or maybe you're you know,
- 10:10Speaker 1: having the hamburger with them on half of a bun.
- 10:14Speaker 2: You know.
- 10:14Speaker 1: Maybe my mom used to do this to me when
- 10:16Speaker 1: I was a kid. She would order us French fries
- 10:18Speaker 1: and she would break them half. So you know, not
- 10:22Speaker 1: that you just like to let us enjoy it but
- 10:24Speaker 1: not and not feel deprived. But still you know again
- 10:27Speaker 1: like but really it's about making it these choices as
- 10:30Speaker 1: a family. And there's so many ways that you can
- 10:32Speaker 1: incorporate produce and vegetables into.
- 10:35Speaker 2: Your diet as like a stable.
- 10:37Speaker 1: I mean, you know, you could take carrots instead of
- 10:40Speaker 1: French fries, not if there's anything wrong with French fries.
- 10:42Speaker 2: Or sweet potatoes.
- 10:43Speaker 1: Yeah, and just making it fun and enjoyable that your
- 10:47Speaker 1: kids grow into good habits and they don't want the
- 10:51Speaker 1: other stuff because it doesn't make them feel good. It's
- 10:53Speaker 1: not good for their brain or their or their stomach
- 10:55Speaker 1: and their their growth.
- 10:56Speaker 5: Basically it does it really makes the kids fill ter. Well, yeah,
- 11:00Speaker 5: I can't imagine that that is a meal that a
- 11:03Speaker 5: kid has that for every single meal.
- 11:06Speaker 4: So but I.
- 11:06Speaker 5: Understand that your plant based focused. And I saw a
- 11:09Speaker 5: little bit of what you did at the Super Bowl,
- 11:12Speaker 5: So I'm curious about that about you know what you
- 11:17Speaker 5: what your focus is on that, And.
- 11:20Speaker 3: Go ahead, tell us a little bit more about a
- 11:22Speaker 3: plant a plant based diet because a lot of people
- 11:25Speaker 3: there have been all these things that have come up.
- 11:27Speaker 3: There's so many of that because a lot of people
- 11:28Speaker 3: don't even know.
- 11:29Speaker 4: Exactly what that is. Can you share what that what
- 11:32Speaker 4: we're talking about.
- 11:33Speaker 2: That's a great question. These are all fabulous questions. Thank you.
- 11:36Speaker 2: So a plant based diet is really where you know,
- 11:39Speaker 2: you're eating more plant based.
- 11:40Speaker 1: Food, but the original plants are produced, right, and some
- 11:46Speaker 1: seeds and the gooms, which.
- 11:47Speaker 2: Is all produce.
- 11:48Speaker 1: And that is what I believe in, is a produce
- 11:52Speaker 1: forward lifestyle, meaning that the more produce you put on
- 11:57Speaker 1: your plates, into your meals and into your acts, produce
- 12:01Speaker 1: is so rich and powerful, antioxy and vitamins, minerals, everything
- 12:05Speaker 1: that people try to get from functional products. Produce is
- 12:10Speaker 1: the original functional food Mother Nature intended how it should be.
- 12:15Speaker 1: So in terms of plant based there are good plant
- 12:20Speaker 1: based products, and there are vet I VET hundreds of products,
- 12:25Speaker 1: and I look for key things like, you know, not
- 12:30Speaker 1: a huge amount of ingredients on the label, you know,
- 12:34Speaker 1: keeping away from processed ingredients, you know, added sugars, you know,
- 12:39Speaker 1: unhealthy inflammatory oils, chemicals, you know, preservatives that you really
- 12:44Speaker 1: don't need, you know. So that's that's really it's more
- 12:48Speaker 1: of a produce forward lifestyle.
- 12:50Speaker 2: And the and the Super Bowl was a lot of fun,
- 12:51Speaker 2: I have to tell you.
- 12:52Speaker 1: I mean we had professional athletes there, and we had
- 12:56Speaker 1: Dwight Howard, you know, enjoying dandy cellery and people think
- 13:00Speaker 1: of celery, Oh, I have to eat celery.
- 13:02Speaker 2: Celery is great for your part, it's great for your
- 13:04Speaker 2: blood prushuer.
- 13:05Speaker 1: And this celery taste is so crunching and sweet that
- 13:10Speaker 1: these football players.
- 13:11Speaker 2: We made it a vessel.
- 13:12Speaker 1: So instead of you dip a celery into like a dip,
- 13:15Speaker 1: we've made the celery the main portion of the appetizer
- 13:19Speaker 1: of the sample, and we just lightly you know, coated
- 13:23Speaker 1: it with a delicious, healthy greek yogurt's vegan mayo also
- 13:28Speaker 1: dip that you could really enjoy, but you could still
- 13:31Speaker 1: experience the flavor. And you know, celery is like another
- 13:34Speaker 1: at og functional food. So so that was great. And
- 13:38Speaker 1: then the mushroom burgers that we had, I mean I
- 13:41Speaker 1: found these, you know, by accident through a trade show,
- 13:44Speaker 1: and I contact the company and I said, listen, like
- 13:47Speaker 1: we have to work together. I have to share your
- 13:49Speaker 1: product at this event through media, because like you have
- 13:52Speaker 1: amazing greedy if this product is made, what it's called
- 13:55Speaker 1: mushroom squared.
- 13:56Speaker 2: And you can buy them online.
- 13:58Speaker 1: They are made with mataki mushrooms and metagala mushrooms are
- 14:01Speaker 1: super food. They have more antioxidants, more potent minerals and
- 14:06Speaker 1: vitamins than any other mushroom category out there. And all
- 14:10Speaker 1: mushrooms are good, don't get me wrong. It's all about
- 14:12Speaker 1: your preference and your taste. But it's made with my
- 14:14Speaker 1: Taki mushrooms and it's like a super food. And they
- 14:16Speaker 1: the best part about these burgers is they taste like
- 14:18Speaker 1: real burgers. So I mean, you could take your kids
- 14:21Speaker 1: to McDonald's and you know, have these in your Papa
- 14:23Speaker 1: book just you know, order something else and.
- 14:25Speaker 2: Put them on the you know, put them in a
- 14:26Speaker 2: big mac. I'm just kidding.
- 14:28Speaker 1: It's a good idea. But these are great, you know,
- 14:34Speaker 1: to going into grilling season. You can put them on
- 14:36Speaker 1: the grill, you can bake them again, like these these
- 14:39Speaker 1: football players and these attendants, they love them. And the
- 14:42Speaker 1: interesting part about it is like you know, the athletes
- 14:46Speaker 1: are really looking for healthy foods, and so you know
- 14:50Speaker 1: that's we all should be like athletes, you know, because again,
- 14:52Speaker 1: like you're you know, you want to put good ingredients
- 14:55Speaker 1: into your body. You don't want to avoid any category,
- 14:59Speaker 1: any food groups or categories.
- 15:00Speaker 2: I mean, obviously you have to. You have to eat
- 15:01Speaker 2: for you. So if you're you know, if you're Celiac, you.
- 15:04Speaker 1: Know, avoid gluten, but but find other things that have
- 15:08Speaker 1: good ingredients you can enjoy. Because the reason what what
- 15:11Speaker 1: you fortified is really about is making.
- 15:15Speaker 2: Everyday living approachable.
- 15:18Speaker 1: Attainable, and enjoyable, because that's how I want to live,
- 15:22Speaker 1: you know, That's how I love.
- 15:23Speaker 5: So do you still find when you talk to people,
- 15:25Speaker 5: whether it's about a product that you're talking about, that
- 15:28Speaker 5: I think that people still don't understand that eighty percent
- 15:33Speaker 5: of taking care of yourself has to do with food.
- 15:36Speaker 1: You're right, and I agree with you, and that is
- 15:40Speaker 1: my one of my missions is to help change that.
- 15:44Speaker 2: Yea, because you know, and that's another thing too.
- 15:46Speaker 1: You know, when you talk about produce, I mean, it
- 15:48Speaker 1: is the most affordable food you can find in the supermarket,
- 15:51Speaker 1: right and it's the most functional food and it tastes great,
- 15:54Speaker 1: and you know, it goes with everything. You know, you
- 15:56Speaker 1: compare it with if you want to have a plant
- 15:58Speaker 1: based you know, burger, or you prepare with you know,
- 16:01Speaker 1: a healthy if you want to eat or chicken, you know,
- 16:03Speaker 1: an organic chicken, or you know a good good you know,
- 16:07Speaker 1: local chicken or whatever fish, whatever it is, even cheese.
- 16:11Speaker 2: You know, again, it's.
- 16:11Speaker 1: All about sourcing the right products the right foods that
- 16:17Speaker 1: have good ingredients that make you feel good inside and
- 16:20Speaker 1: out and kind of just you know, adding that to
- 16:23Speaker 1: your lifestyle and then you want more of that.
- 16:25Speaker 4: Yes, yes, I read a book you touched on something earlier.
- 16:30Speaker 3: I read a book called Ultra Processed People, and it
- 16:32Speaker 3: was about ultra processed food and that book scared me
- 16:36Speaker 3: so badly that I was like, I am never going
- 16:38Speaker 3: to buy anything that's in package ever.
- 16:40Speaker 4: Again, that's the safest way to go.
- 16:42Speaker 3: But obviously you soon learn you can't entirely eat that way.
- 16:45Speaker 3: You mentioned finding a products with as few calories on
- 16:49Speaker 3: the label ingredients.
- 16:51Speaker 4: Is it the number or is it what's in it?
- 16:54Speaker 3: Like sometimes I can the chemicals, I couldn't even pronounce them,
- 16:58Speaker 3: Like you read what's in something and it's got so
- 17:00Speaker 3: many preservatives and with names. I've never What should you
- 17:03Speaker 3: be looking for when you are shopping out, you know,
- 17:07Speaker 3: buying something in a package. It's obviously been very process That's.
- 17:11Speaker 1: Another great question, Minica, thank you. So Basically, what you
- 17:14Speaker 1: want to do is look for products that have ten
- 17:17Speaker 1: or less ingredients, and even if they have the ten
- 17:20Speaker 1: or less ingredients, you want to really look at the
- 17:23Speaker 1: way the ingredients are listed on the label, right, So
- 17:25Speaker 1: if the first ingredient is sugar, then you know that
- 17:29Speaker 1: that product that's the majority of that ingredient, that those
- 17:33Speaker 1: ingredients are sugar, and you kind of want to go
- 17:35Speaker 1: down the list. You want to also look at the
- 17:40Speaker 1: not low calorie, it's not low calorie, it's nutrient dent.
- 17:43Speaker 1: You want to look at the you know, the side
- 17:45Speaker 1: labels if you want, and you know, you want to
- 17:47Speaker 1: make sure that you're eating a look it's a salad
- 17:49Speaker 1: dressing sometimes that they mostly don't have protein, but there
- 17:52Speaker 1: are ones that you can't get protein.
- 17:54Speaker 2: But you want to look at the nutrition label also
- 17:58Speaker 2: to make sure that you're getting a product that is wholesome, that.
- 18:00Speaker 1: Is giving you, you know, the taste, the flavor, and
- 18:04Speaker 1: the benefits so your body can process it or digest
- 18:09Speaker 1: it in a way that you don't have bloating in
- 18:11Speaker 1: your belly, you don't have an upst stomach, you don't
- 18:14Speaker 1: feel sick.
- 18:15Speaker 2: You don't you know, so you want to put good
- 18:17Speaker 2: things into your body.
- 18:18Speaker 5: Yeah, now that's I really liked what you said about
- 18:21Speaker 5: Like I had a friend whence that said, I don't
- 18:24Speaker 5: really ever do anything that has more than three ingredients.
- 18:27Speaker 5: Do you know what I mean? Like something that is
- 18:28Speaker 5: it's more natural, it's you know, the tomatoes and you
- 18:32Speaker 5: know she's from Italy, so yeah, but yeah, that part,
- 18:36Speaker 5: that part is was really you know, hid for me,
- 18:40Speaker 5: and I think people in this country, I don't always
- 18:43Speaker 5: find that we have hit the mark yet on preventative
- 18:48Speaker 5: you know kind of medicine. Diet is one of them,
- 18:51Speaker 5: and a lot of people have on their health insurance
- 18:53Speaker 5: that it's it's a dietitian or a nutrition person is
- 18:59Speaker 5: paid for. So is that I've been reading a lot
- 19:03Speaker 5: about that lately.
- 19:05Speaker 3: Well, my son has celiac, so we went through the
- 19:08Speaker 3: whole process, the elimination diets and everything and working with
- 19:11Speaker 3: the nutritionists and you learn so much when you go
- 19:14Speaker 3: through that. Now what was hard for him? And I'm
- 19:16Speaker 3: so happy that we're going in a direction where like
- 19:18Speaker 3: he can go to a restaurant now that's seed oil
- 19:21Speaker 3: free restaurants.
- 19:22Speaker 4: That are exclusively that or gluten free exclusive. It didn't
- 19:25Speaker 4: used to be that way. We once took him to an.
- 19:28Speaker 3: Asian restaurant here in Austin where when he went through
- 19:31Speaker 3: the whole list of things he could not eat, they
- 19:33Speaker 3: came back with like a bunch of pea shoots or something.
- 19:36Speaker 4: They canet a plate of nothing. He was the most.
- 19:39Speaker 4: He was like, that's all he can eat in this
- 19:41Speaker 4: entire restaurant.
- 19:42Speaker 3: So I'm so happy that now there is, you know,
- 19:45Speaker 3: the opportunity to It's gotten so much better as.
- 19:49Speaker 5: It's gotten better, and it's not a lot. It's not
- 19:51Speaker 5: like you need a PhD.
- 19:52Speaker 4: Right right now, I am disappointed.
- 19:55Speaker 3: Like the truth is, when I look at those labels,
- 19:56Speaker 3: my favorite foods have the top ingredients that does say sugar,
- 20:00Speaker 3: I have to confess.
- 20:02Speaker 5: We're all guilty, right, You got to get.
- 20:04Speaker 4: Away from that.
- 20:04Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, Okay, let's go to the question that
- 20:06Speaker 3: all the moms out here asking, how do we get
- 20:10Speaker 3: rid of that belly fat without risking our lives?
- 20:13Speaker 4: Let's talk because let's talk about that.
- 20:16Speaker 3: Yeah's important part of the show. Everybody get out your
- 20:19Speaker 3: notebooks and.
- 20:20Speaker 5: Yeah, my name right now is Julie belly fat or kid.
- 20:23Speaker 4: I'm telling you can't even get rid of no.
- 20:24Speaker 3: Remember all the sit ups in the world, no matter
- 20:27Speaker 3: what I try, it's like always there.
- 20:29Speaker 4: So let's let's so.
- 20:32Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's another great question. And so basically
- 20:36Speaker 1: you know, belly fat comes from a lot.
- 20:38Speaker 2: Of different things. As we age. First of all, you know,
- 20:41Speaker 2: our digestion slows down.
- 20:42Speaker 1: And again if we're eating foods that have twenty ingredients
- 20:46Speaker 1: or you know, or inflammatory, we're going to feel that
- 20:49Speaker 1: in our gut, We're going to feel that on our
- 20:50Speaker 1: belly and it's going to be bloated.
- 20:52Speaker 2: So that is one way.
- 20:53Speaker 1: So again, you know, choosing foods that you enjoy but
- 20:58Speaker 1: that are that it fits to them and that help
- 21:01Speaker 1: with the digestive system and your energy levels and maintaining
- 21:06Speaker 1: helping to maintain you know, hormones is just one of
- 21:10Speaker 1: the first things that you should be looking at. The
- 21:13Speaker 1: second thing is movement. You know you want as we age,
- 21:17Speaker 1: you know, we need less really cardio cardio cardio, and
- 21:21Speaker 1: more just movement, full body movement.
- 21:26Speaker 2: Strength training. Again, this is where the.
- 21:29Speaker 1: U fortified lifestyle comes in because we want it to
- 21:32Speaker 1: be approachable, attainable, and enjoyable.
- 21:35Speaker 2: So if you love.
- 21:37Speaker 1: Lifting heavyweights and you enjoy that and you've been doing that,
- 21:40Speaker 1: then you know that's your strength training.
- 21:42Speaker 2: Someone else may enjoy a pilates.
- 21:44Speaker 1: I mean, I love there's it's free. Actually, there's a
- 21:47Speaker 1: guy he's a fitness instructor. He's a famous dancer. He
- 21:50Speaker 1: trains Madonna. Kelly Ripley's name is Isaac Boots, and I
- 21:54Speaker 1: met him years ago when I took class at soul
- 21:56Speaker 1: Cycle and he said, you should come take my class.
- 21:58Speaker 2: And it's a it's.
- 21:59Speaker 1: A kind of like a full body thirty to forty
- 22:01Speaker 1: five minute where you're just it's using your body weight
- 22:04Speaker 1: lightweights and you just it tightens everything from within.
- 22:07Speaker 2: So that is another great one.
- 22:09Speaker 1: And then Pilate's yoga, whatever works for you, and just movement,
- 22:12Speaker 1: walking with your dog, walking your kids, you know, parking
- 22:15Speaker 1: a little bit further from the grocery store and walking
- 22:17Speaker 1: a little more.
- 22:18Speaker 2: Taking the stairs, Monica, that was what.
- 22:23Speaker 4: Are you What are your thoughts on twenty eight floors?
- 22:26Speaker 3: I mean, it was all down, but that's hard to
- 22:29Speaker 3: actually once you start doing it.
- 22:31Speaker 8: How many flights do you recommend? Probably not that many,
- 22:34Speaker 8: but yeah, you're right. I'm gonna say from the Grand
- 22:36Speaker 8: Canyon down is harder. It's hard not yeah, oh yeah,
- 22:40Speaker 8: yeah yeah.
- 22:41Speaker 1: But I would just say, you know, start small and build,
- 22:44Speaker 1: but don't overdo it because you know you if you
- 22:47Speaker 1: overdo it, you're gonna get injured and there's no need
- 22:49Speaker 1: to overdo it because you want to have that time
- 22:51Speaker 1: to go do something else that you enjoy. So you know,
- 22:53Speaker 1: it's it's all about balance. And then you know, there
- 22:56Speaker 1: are really good non surgical, minimally invasive, non surgical treatments
- 23:04Speaker 1: that you can have that skin tight, that tighten the skin,
- 23:08Speaker 1: that can target fat directly under the skin. So there,
- 23:11Speaker 1: you know, there's subcutaneous fat and visceral fat. Visual fat
- 23:14Speaker 1: is what you have surrounding your organs and that's when
- 23:16Speaker 1: you read too. You know, that's a different kind of
- 23:18Speaker 1: but the visceral fat, you know, there's companies like BTL
- 23:21Speaker 1: Aesthetics and.
- 23:22Speaker 2: They have all these different technologies.
- 23:24Speaker 1: You can you know, go and you can target the
- 23:26Speaker 1: belly fat, tighten the skin, and it works in tandem
- 23:30Speaker 1: with movement, with you know, a better nutritent and more
- 23:35Speaker 1: nutrient dense diet and lifestyle and I hate the word diet.
- 23:38Speaker 1: Diet is diet with the te So just filling your
- 23:41Speaker 1: your lifestyle with good foods.
- 23:43Speaker 2: That you feel good about and enjoy and that is
- 23:47Speaker 2: really the key.
- 23:47Speaker 1: So it's really a multi prong approach. It's an integrated
- 23:50Speaker 1: approach to living well and feeling good inside and out
- 23:55Speaker 1: as we age.
- 23:56Speaker 5: So are you speaking of something like cool sculpting. I'm
- 24:00Speaker 5: just thinking that off the top of my head something
- 24:02Speaker 5: like that. Is that what you mean? Well, it conjunction something.
- 24:05Speaker 1: Yeah, cool scoping had a lot of controversy, and that's
- 24:08Speaker 1: something that you freezes the fat. This is something more that. Again,
- 24:11Speaker 1: it has to work for everyone. Not everyone would want this.
- 24:16Speaker 1: So again, you know there are creams, there are lotions.
- 24:19Speaker 1: I would just tell you that one of the things
- 24:20Speaker 1: that helps belly fat too is hydration. Drinking enough water
- 24:24Speaker 1: a day. You know, I say people say five to
- 24:27Speaker 1: eight glasses of water day. I say eight minimum, And
- 24:29Speaker 1: if you're exercising and you're moving more like you know,
- 24:32Speaker 1: eight to ten, and you can make that enjoyable. It
- 24:34Speaker 1: shouldn't have to be oh, let me guzzle down my water.
- 24:37Speaker 1: You know, you can put fruit in the water. You
- 24:39Speaker 1: can have sparkling water. You know, you can substitute for
- 24:43Speaker 1: like iced tea, you know, herbal tea. It's just to
- 24:46Speaker 1: get your your digestive system lubricated to hydrate. And when
- 24:50Speaker 1: you put more water in your body, your skin gets plumper,
- 24:54Speaker 1: your skin looks healthier. So again, it has that appearance
- 24:58Speaker 1: of being a little bit firmer and hot. So it
- 25:00Speaker 1: really is again an integrated approach. And there are some
- 25:04Speaker 1: great skin creams out there that can do you know,
- 25:07Speaker 1: they're not going to do you know, mommy makeovers overnight,
- 25:10Speaker 1: but they can help with you know, just helping to
- 25:13Speaker 1: firm the skin, tight, hydrate the skin.
- 25:15Speaker 2: It's really hydration that helps.
- 25:18Speaker 3: Yeah, and we're talking about eight ounce eight ounce cut
- 25:22Speaker 3: like you're talking about eight eight ounce glasses of water?
- 25:25Speaker 4: Is that right minimum?
- 25:28Speaker 3: Okay, Yeah, just verifying that because I once interpreted that
- 25:31Speaker 3: to mean like I had drink eight giant bottles of
- 25:33Speaker 3: water and I was going other directions.
- 25:38Speaker 1: This is this is a sparkling water. You know, that's
- 25:40Speaker 1: a great question offto Monica. You have to know what
- 25:42Speaker 1: you're drinking. But this is sparkling water and this has
- 25:45Speaker 1: I think, like sixteen ounces of water. So again it's
- 25:50Speaker 1: all about what works for you. But you know, keeping
- 25:54Speaker 1: it simple and just hydration is another factor.
- 25:57Speaker 3: Yeah, does sparkling water have the same benefit or is
- 26:01Speaker 3: the way it's processed to have other issues?
- 26:03Speaker 4: Like would you recommend is it still a good way?
- 26:06Speaker 4: Because I I've often.
- 26:07Speaker 3: Wondered that when I'm like and have some water, but
- 26:09Speaker 3: I always want to have sparkling water. But that's is
- 26:11Speaker 3: that just as good or is that not as good?
- 26:13Speaker 1: Or so this is Italian sparkling water. Again, it has
- 26:17Speaker 1: to be with what works for you. I for me,
- 26:20Speaker 1: if I drink too much flat water, it will upset
- 26:22Speaker 1: my stomach, so I like to kind of counterbalance that,
- 26:26Speaker 1: have flat water and then add in sparkling water. I'll
- 26:29Speaker 1: drink herbal teas as well, so you know that. So
- 26:34Speaker 1: it really depends on what works for you. And I
- 26:36Speaker 1: would say, fine, you know the you know, the cleanest
- 26:39Speaker 1: sparkling water that's you know, bottled at the source, If
- 26:42Speaker 1: that works to you, I mean sparkling water these some
- 26:45Speaker 1: people it can be. It can bloat some people, some
- 26:47Speaker 1: people not. So it's again it's really what works for you.
- 26:50Speaker 1: But again, making sure that you get that hydration in
- 26:53Speaker 1: is what's key.
- 26:55Speaker 5: Yeah, I think that's totally I agree with the hydration.
- 26:58Speaker 5: I'm curious, hearn, how are you raised? I mean I
- 27:01Speaker 5: know how, like I know how I was raised on
- 27:04Speaker 5: the foods that I was raised. And it is shocking,
- 27:08Speaker 5: like literally shocking that Monica and I are sitting here
- 27:11Speaker 5: today eating ding dongs for you know that.
- 27:14Speaker 4: We're still here with you to talk about it. Yeah,
- 27:17Speaker 4: I know we all did it.
- 27:18Speaker 5: But I mean it's just like, you know, I look
- 27:20Speaker 5: back on what my parents, and my parents are wonderful people,
- 27:23Speaker 5: but no skin off, you know, they're like they just
- 27:26Speaker 5: didn't know. So yeah, there's a lot of hot dogs,
- 27:29Speaker 5: there's a lot of chips, there is a lot of
- 27:31Speaker 5: cast roles, you know what I'm saying. So did you
- 27:34Speaker 5: learn this as a child?
- 27:36Speaker 2: Yes, Well, my mom, my mom raised us very healthy.
- 27:40Speaker 1: She was you know, she had relatives who died early
- 27:44Speaker 1: of cancer.
- 27:45Speaker 2: My grandfather died of heart disease at the age of sixty.
- 27:48Speaker 1: And she, my mother has just her personal passion has
- 27:51Speaker 1: always been health and wellness and she just wanted to
- 27:55Speaker 1: instill that in her children when we were growing up.
- 27:58Speaker 1: And I will say, you know, I always wanted to
- 28:01Speaker 1: have the doritos, you know, as a kid, but I
- 28:04Speaker 1: had I had something called munchies, which tasted delicious actually
- 28:07Speaker 1: you know, but again, like but she made it more
- 28:10Speaker 1: of a lifestyle. And what what I appreciate them.
- 28:13Speaker 2: Most about my mom that she did.
- 28:15Speaker 1: She really instilled my love for produce and clean food.
- 28:20Speaker 1: You know, so again it goes back to your talking
- 28:22Speaker 1: about kids. You know, you want them to feel good
- 28:25Speaker 1: about what they're eating, so you don't want to make.
- 28:26Speaker 2: It totally just healthy.
- 28:28Speaker 1: You want to kind of make a family affair, but
- 28:31Speaker 1: you know, kind of let them taste the difference so
- 28:34Speaker 1: they know they go back to what's good.
- 28:36Speaker 2: But yes, that's how I was raised.
- 28:39Speaker 1: I was I've always been very passionate about health and wellness.
- 28:42Speaker 1: I mean, I've been working at I started working at
- 28:44Speaker 1: a gym when I was, you know, in high school,
- 28:46Speaker 1: and then I became a personal trainer and a fitness instructor.
- 28:49Speaker 2: And you know just kind of like.
- 28:51Speaker 1: Have always been recreating menus and foods and things like
- 28:54Speaker 1: that to try to make them healthier when I was younger.
- 28:56Speaker 1: And so, yeah, so I was raised with that in mind.
- 29:00Speaker 5: With Prody's first, yeah, Jess was curious that I wanted
- 29:04Speaker 5: to hear yeah.
- 29:05Speaker 3: Yeah, Well, we have some other moms who would like
- 29:08Speaker 3: to share their questions and thoughts with you, and they
- 29:11Speaker 3: are our Zoomer moms. Welcome out, Zoomer Moms. Welcome to
- 29:14Speaker 3: the Mom's Club. Hi, ladies, So I will introduce each
- 29:18Speaker 3: one of you. Please tell us a little bit about
- 29:20Speaker 3: yourself and where you're from, and you have kids, what
- 29:24Speaker 3: do you do? And then do you have a question
- 29:26Speaker 3: for Darren Kreem. Welcome to the Mom's Club.
- 29:29Speaker 4: Hello everybody.
- 29:30Speaker 9: I'm here in Boja City, Louisiana. I am a physician here,
- 29:37Speaker 9: family welcome, working in street Foot Invosure and I have
- 29:43Speaker 9: have been helping people learn how to eat healthy, exercise
- 29:48Speaker 9: and all that, but I have a problem sometimes with
- 29:51Speaker 9: getting them to follow my suggestions. So my question would
- 29:56Speaker 9: be how do you help that young people?
- 30:00Speaker 5: Yes, I'm finding that, of.
- 30:02Speaker 9: Course, they love a lot of the fast foods, and
- 30:06Speaker 9: when you tell them about eating the right way, they
- 30:09Speaker 9: think that food is terrible. In fact, some of them.
- 30:12Speaker 9: I've seen children even almost vomit when you try to
- 30:15Speaker 9: give them just regular food to eat, because it's so
- 30:18Speaker 9: used to eating the bad things. So how do you
- 30:23Speaker 9: encourage the child You may have talked about that a
- 30:25Speaker 9: little bit, but how do you encourage the children to
- 30:29Speaker 9: eat more healthy and to help them to understand that
- 30:33Speaker 9: what they're eating now is going to affect them later
- 30:36Speaker 9: on in life.
- 30:38Speaker 2: That is a great question for it. So nice to
- 30:39Speaker 2: meet you. So a couple of things.
- 30:42Speaker 1: One thing that I do also is I'm a lifestyle
- 30:45Speaker 1: designer where I work with kids and families and individuals
- 30:48Speaker 1: and help them kind of create a wardrobe of food
- 30:51Speaker 1: that they enjoy that again make it approachable, attainable and
- 30:54Speaker 1: enjoyable to eat nutrient dence and enjoy what you're.
- 30:58Speaker 2: Eating with kids.
- 31:00Speaker 1: You know, there's a lot of different things that you
- 31:02Speaker 1: can do fast food again. You know, maybe it's working
- 31:06Speaker 1: with them to say, Okay, you know we're not giving
- 31:07Speaker 1: up fast food completely, but you know, before we go
- 31:11Speaker 1: for McDonald's, you know, maybe we have I want you
- 31:14Speaker 1: to try if to say, you know.
- 31:16Speaker 2: Like a like a baked I think I'm making.
- 31:19Speaker 1: Sense, but you know, sweet potato fries dipped in like
- 31:23Speaker 1: a yogurt dip or something like that, you know, giving
- 31:25Speaker 1: them the recipes. And also as a as a family practitioner,
- 31:28Speaker 1: you might want to think about doing some sort of events,
- 31:31Speaker 1: you know, in your office or whatever, where you can
- 31:33Speaker 1: showcase different recipes and food and let the kids try
- 31:37Speaker 1: them so they can see for themselves and kind of
- 31:39Speaker 1: like breaking down the barrier.
- 31:41Speaker 2: Making it more approachable so they can say, oh, wow,
- 31:43Speaker 2: this is really good. You know, they don't even have
- 31:45Speaker 2: to know that it's healthy or not.
- 31:46Speaker 1: You could even just say these are fries and they
- 31:48Speaker 1: try them, you know, these are special fries. So little
- 31:51Speaker 1: things like that can make a big difference. And again,
- 31:54Speaker 1: you know, teaching education is also important. You know, if
- 31:58Speaker 1: you show them what's actually in the the foods, you know,
- 32:01Speaker 1: letting them know to how that connects to their overall health.
- 32:04Speaker 2: You know, do you have bad grades?
- 32:06Speaker 1: You know, do you want to I mean without threatening,
- 32:08Speaker 1: but you know, do you want to help them, you know,
- 32:10Speaker 1: be better? You know, like have better brain help you know,
- 32:12Speaker 1: be able to pass those tests or you know, be
- 32:15Speaker 1: able to make it make the kids soccer team next
- 32:18Speaker 1: year or whatever the case be. Kind of making it
- 32:20Speaker 1: more personalized for them and not making it feel restrictive.
- 32:25Speaker 1: You want it again, it's all about putting good things
- 32:27Speaker 1: into your lifestyle that make you feel good inside and
- 32:32Speaker 1: out and that you're happy about and that you enjoy.
- 32:34Speaker 2: And from there, the change just kind of happens.
- 32:36Speaker 1: It's not even it's a shift and it happens, and
- 32:38Speaker 1: you know the kids will feel better and they'll be
- 32:40Speaker 1: happy about their choices. So you know, I would think
- 32:44Speaker 1: like again, like I work as a lifestyle designer and
- 32:46Speaker 1: I you know, I work. I've worked with doctors before
- 32:48Speaker 1: for their patients, and it's it's really about just you know,
- 32:53Speaker 1: making it approachable and attainable and enjoyable.
- 32:57Speaker 4: That's a great suggestion.
- 32:58Speaker 3: In fact, dont I mean you could do a contest
- 33:00Speaker 3: for the kids where they have to guess what that
- 33:03Speaker 3: vegetable is that they think you so delicious, and because
- 33:07Speaker 3: sometimes they're shocked, you know, like that's Ellie, that's zucchini,
- 33:10Speaker 3: I know, and like I wouldn't have guessed. So yeah,
- 33:12Speaker 3: that's a very great suggestion. Renee, welcome to the mom's Club.
- 33:16Speaker 3: Tell us a little bit about yourself, and do you
- 33:18Speaker 3: have a question for Darren I do.
- 33:20Speaker 4: Hey, guys, how's it going.
- 33:22Speaker 10: I'm really enjoying this conversation, by the way, very timely.
- 33:25Speaker 10: So my name's Renee. I live in Austin with my husband,
- 33:28Speaker 10: Jerome and my eight year old son, Ellis, and I
- 33:32Speaker 10: actually took some time off of a twenty five career,
- 33:34Speaker 10: twenty five year career in sales and marketing, so spending
- 33:37Speaker 10: a lot of time doing all the domestic things and
- 33:41Speaker 10: trying to focus on nutrition, also going through prayer menopause.
- 33:45Speaker 10: So really my bain has been meal planning. I absolutely
- 33:51Speaker 10: I feel like Sunday comes and I get this tizzy
- 33:54Speaker 10: where I just I'm not sure exactly what I have planned.
- 33:57Speaker 10: And honestly, some days I'm like, oh, I guess my
- 34:00Speaker 10: having pasta again, set a chicken, and so I want
- 34:04Speaker 10: to make it more exciting for my family and myself.
- 34:06Speaker 10: I want to balance all the nutrients. I mean, very
- 34:09Speaker 10: active eight year old. I'm trying to be a more
- 34:12Speaker 10: active myself again going through perimenopause. So how can I
- 34:16Speaker 10: do this and not make it feel like such a chore?
- 34:20Speaker 4: Good question?
- 34:20Speaker 5: Good question.
- 34:21Speaker 2: Yeah, so it's a great, great, great question. Nice to
- 34:24Speaker 2: meet you, and a thank you so much. So a
- 34:26Speaker 2: few things.
- 34:27Speaker 1: One, you know, just making it simple, right, So if
- 34:31Speaker 1: you go to the supermarket on shopping, you know you
- 34:34Speaker 1: want to a again, incorporate as many much produce as
- 34:38Speaker 1: you can because you can use it as a base
- 34:40Speaker 1: for your meal planning. And then from there it really
- 34:43Speaker 1: is about what your preferences are for you.
- 34:46Speaker 2: And your family. You know, if you like chicken or you.
- 34:48Speaker 1: Like pasta, you know, there's great ways to enjoy chicken
- 34:51Speaker 1: and chicken if it's organic, you know, and you bake
- 34:53Speaker 1: it in the oven.
- 34:54Speaker 2: I mean, I I actually do this.
- 34:56Speaker 1: I'm a dog mom, okay, and I do this for
- 34:58Speaker 1: my dog and I we got to share the good.
- 35:00Speaker 1: I buy our organic chicken, whole chicken legs, guys breast,
- 35:05Speaker 1: and I bake it in the oven over vegetables, over
- 35:09Speaker 1: organic vegetables, broccoli, carrots, poliflower. You know dogs can't have
- 35:13Speaker 1: all vegetables and sweet potato. And if I tell you this,
- 35:16Speaker 1: dog is I love it.
- 35:17Speaker 2: He loves it. It's like and it's so healthy and good.
- 35:19Speaker 2: It's tastes you know you feel good about. It's just
- 35:22Speaker 2: using whole food ingredients and keeping it simple. You know
- 35:26Speaker 2: that is one thing.
- 35:27Speaker 1: And you know I would not I would make what
- 35:29Speaker 1: you have, your husband have and your son kind of
- 35:33Speaker 1: as a family together, right, you shouldn't be like separate food.
- 35:36Speaker 1: They are great pastas that you can buy that are
- 35:38Speaker 1: higher in fiber, that made, you know, with with protein.
- 35:43Speaker 1: Some of them are plant plant plants while plant based,
- 35:45Speaker 1: but you know you can buy things that are low
- 35:47Speaker 1: in carbs, so and you can make that part of
- 35:50Speaker 1: the meal. So you're getting the nutrients that you you need.
- 35:53Speaker 1: Your husband's getting the teenaes and and your son is
- 35:55Speaker 1: getting what he needs. So I don't know if the
- 35:57Speaker 1: answers your question, but it's really like simplifying it, and.
- 36:01Speaker 10: I love it. I think I'm for complicating it, to
- 36:03Speaker 10: be honest. There's so much information coming at at us
- 36:06Speaker 10: these days that I don't know that I'm doing the
- 36:09Speaker 10: right thing. But I think it's like with everything, just
- 36:12Speaker 10: keep it simple.
- 36:13Speaker 5: Keep it simple.
- 36:14Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 36:15Speaker 1: I vet information, I vet products, and you really have
- 36:18Speaker 1: to look at like it. Like I approach lifestyle. It's
- 36:21Speaker 1: not a trend, right, it's it's what works for you.
- 36:24Speaker 1: And it's kind of like fashion. You know, like bell
- 36:26Speaker 1: bottoms are in style. Well not everyone loves bell bottoms,
- 36:29Speaker 1: so don't wear them.
- 36:30Speaker 2: Like, stick with what works for you. And that's the
- 36:32Speaker 2: same thing with these food trends.
- 36:34Speaker 1: You know, it's not it's not like okay, Like there's
- 36:37Speaker 1: a company I know and I work with pub they'd
- 36:39Speaker 1: make a low acid coffee and he's like.
- 36:41Speaker 2: Yeah, this is going to be a trend. You know,
- 36:42Speaker 2: the reality is like it already. It's it's a trend.
- 36:45Speaker 2: But you don't want to jump on the bandwagon because
- 36:48Speaker 2: it's a trend. You want to do it because it's
- 36:50Speaker 2: good for you. It tastes good and you enjoy it,
- 36:52Speaker 2: So that's the most important thing.
- 36:54Speaker 1: You know. And yes coffee can be acidic, you know,
- 36:56Speaker 1: so balancing it out and not having twelve cups a
- 36:58Speaker 1: day or buying a.
- 36:59Speaker 2: Lower acid coffee.
- 37:00Speaker 1: But you don't want to do it just because someone's
- 37:02Speaker 1: telling you to do it. You want to do it
- 37:03Speaker 1: because you enjoy it. And that's really what you fortified
- 37:07Speaker 1: is about. It's really about all these different approaches and
- 37:10Speaker 1: these products and these services and these ingredients and these
- 37:12Speaker 1: chef inspired recipes to really help you navigate life and
- 37:16Speaker 1: feel good, to make choices that you love, you know,
- 37:19Speaker 1: and enjoy and you can pass on to your family
- 37:21Speaker 1: and friends and experience in person.
- 37:25Speaker 3: Well, I like what you're saying about lifestyle and trends
- 37:27Speaker 3: because my mother was a really a wonderful cook and
- 37:32Speaker 3: cooked healthy. I mean, I don't want to leave the
- 37:34Speaker 3: impression that she just served me being dongs all the time.
- 37:36Speaker 3: We actually when I was growing up, she'd make a
- 37:39Speaker 3: meal and it was a complete meal. It was very healthy,
- 37:42Speaker 3: and we all had to eat the same thing. I
- 37:44Speaker 3: think there became a trend when my kids were little
- 37:47Speaker 3: that it was sort of like, well, my husband and
- 37:49Speaker 3: I are going to eat this, but the kids are
- 37:52Speaker 3: going to have something else that's more appealing to them,
- 37:54Speaker 3: and we were all then it got overwhelming as and
- 37:57Speaker 3: I'm a terrible cook. If you want to be overwhelmed,
- 37:59Speaker 3: be either me cooking it or them trying to eat it.
- 38:02Speaker 4: It's all bad. But I think, yeah, well you just
- 38:05Speaker 4: suggested kind.
- 38:06Speaker 3: Of going back the way we used to eat as
- 38:08Speaker 3: a family, where you're not trying to cater to every
- 38:11Speaker 3: single person's personal taste and needs.
- 38:14Speaker 4: And ages and all of that, but just to be healthy.
- 38:17Speaker 4: So I love that.
- 38:19Speaker 3: Alisa, welcome to the Mom's Club. Tell us a little
- 38:21Speaker 3: about yourself, and you have a question for Darren.
- 38:24Speaker 5: Absolutely so glad to be here.
- 38:26Speaker 6: My name is a Lisa Sample Alexander, and I'm so
- 38:29Speaker 6: excited to talk to you, Darren. I'm coming to you
- 38:32Speaker 6: out of the Dallas Fort Worth area, right.
- 38:34Speaker 2: So, Texas, Big Texas. That's right, that's right.
- 38:39Speaker 6: And I have been blessed to just do a lot
- 38:42Speaker 6: of different things. I'm an author. You can look me
- 38:45Speaker 6: up on Amazon. I create coloring books for kids, coloring
- 38:49Speaker 6: books for adults, as well as work books and journals
- 38:54Speaker 6: as well. In fact, I just came out in May
- 38:56Speaker 6: with three new journals for Mother's Day. So I'm so
- 38:59Speaker 6: excited about that. As I speak, I train and related
- 39:03Speaker 6: to this conversation, Darren, I'm so excited to talk to you.
- 39:10Speaker 6: I'm so excited to talk to you because I've lost
- 39:12Speaker 6: over one hundred pounds. Oh wow, yeah, over, thank you,
- 39:19Speaker 6: thank you so much, and it took me three years.
- 39:22Speaker 6: It took me three years to do it. Now, I
- 39:26Speaker 6: promise you. In my mind, I'm just going crazy right
- 39:28Speaker 6: now because we've used the word trend more in the
- 39:31Speaker 6: past five to six minutes than we have in the
- 39:34Speaker 6: entire conversation. And that's the question I wanted to ask.
- 39:38Speaker 6: So you have to be excited, Daryn, because in my mind,
- 39:41Speaker 6: we're in the middle of a health and wellness revolution.
- 39:45Speaker 6: Every strip mall now has a medspot that can do
- 39:48Speaker 6: this or that. We read articles, we look at television.
- 39:53Speaker 6: Cottage Cheese is having a whole revival, you know right now,
- 39:58Speaker 6: Like who ever knew the cottage Cheese than that an
- 40:00Speaker 6: air fryer and that a vibration plate, right well, yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 40:05Speaker 6: That's exactly why I want to ask you. So, Darren,
- 40:08Speaker 6: what are you seeing out there that you're excited about?
- 40:12Speaker 6: Because for someone who's taken three years and kind of uh,
- 40:16Speaker 6: brand new to this this world. You know, there's new
- 40:19Speaker 6: health and wellness world. I'm more artistic, I'm a writer,
- 40:22Speaker 6: I'm a thespian, I'm a singer, I love people. I
- 40:26Speaker 6: interact with people, but not in the gym until the
- 40:29Speaker 6: last few years, right until the last three years, and
- 40:32Speaker 6: so all of this has been brand new to me.
- 40:35Speaker 6: And how exciting, you know, how exciting is it all?
- 40:38Speaker 6: I heard what you said about trends before, but I
- 40:41Speaker 6: have to think that there's something that we're doing now
- 40:45Speaker 6: that we weren't doing before, are talking about now that
- 40:48Speaker 6: we were talking about before that you're excited about.
- 40:51Speaker 9: And I'd love to know what that is.
- 40:53Speaker 2: That's a great question. And it's so nice to meet you.
- 40:56Speaker 2: And congratulations on that weight loss. That is amazing that
- 40:59Speaker 2: you picked it off, it's even more amazing, So kudos
- 41:02Speaker 2: to you. That's amazing. What I'm really excited.
- 41:05Speaker 1: About is what's going on now, you know, with Make
- 41:10Speaker 1: America Healthy Again, because you.
- 41:12Speaker 2: Know, what what.
- 41:14Speaker 1: Is happening is that the consumers are becoming more knowledgeable
- 41:18Speaker 1: and the government, Robert Kennedy and his movement is and
- 41:21Speaker 1: doctorized are trying to really make it easier for.
- 41:25Speaker 2: Consumers to make healthier choices.
- 41:28Speaker 1: They were moving food colorings and dyes and you know,
- 41:31Speaker 1: inflammatory ingredients from processed food, which it is helpful to
- 41:37Speaker 1: do that because you know, again if they're still not
- 41:39Speaker 1: totally healthy, but it's little less cancer or diabetes or
- 41:44Speaker 1: you know, other diseases that you're going to develop from
- 41:47Speaker 1: eating that stuff or too much of it. You know again,
- 41:49Speaker 1: one bag a month, Okay, fine if you must have it,
- 41:51Speaker 1: but not every day. So I'm really excited about that.
- 41:55Speaker 1: I'm really excited that that you know about produce and
- 41:58Speaker 1: about that you know, produce and fresh food is becoming
- 42:02Speaker 1: more important to people and incorporating that into more of
- 42:06Speaker 1: a daily lifestyle. I think that's important. I think that
- 42:09Speaker 1: you know, used to be you know, everything was a
- 42:12Speaker 1: trend years ago, like okay, this is like your exercise.
- 42:15Speaker 1: You know, everyone was cycling, everyone was spinning, and now
- 42:17Speaker 1: like it's really about a little bit more personalization, what
- 42:20Speaker 1: works for you.
- 42:21Speaker 2: You know.
- 42:21Speaker 1: Again, you know, we're not talking about only eating one way,
- 42:26Speaker 1: although there are articles. My mom, I love her, you know,
- 42:28Speaker 1: she's into health and wellness, but she calls me up
- 42:30Speaker 1: every day. Oh you know, did you hear that if
- 42:33Speaker 1: you eat dish you can get that or you have
- 42:35Speaker 1: to go planting. So there's more information out there, but
- 42:39Speaker 1: there's more options, which I'm really excited about. There's a
- 42:41Speaker 1: lot more options that make it easier for people to
- 42:45Speaker 1: live well and enjoy it right.
- 42:47Speaker 2: So it used to be years ago. You know, bread,
- 42:49Speaker 2: for instance, a great example, bread had different choices. You
- 42:52Speaker 2: had wonderbread, you know, white bread, you had you know,
- 42:55Speaker 2: one whole week brand, and you had a whole brain.
- 42:57Speaker 1: Now there are so many options when it comes to
- 43:00Speaker 1: you have a higher fiber bread that has you know,
- 43:03Speaker 1: nutrients and some protein. You have protein breads you know again,
- 43:08Speaker 1: you know, you have plant based breads made from like,
- 43:11Speaker 1: you know, vegetables or avocado breads. Again, it's all about
- 43:15Speaker 1: the ingredients that are in there first. And I VET
- 43:18Speaker 1: hundreds of products because you know, I could be in
- 43:20Speaker 1: the supermarket and some online and someone's buying and I
- 43:24Speaker 1: won't name the brand, okay, but they're buying a popcorn
- 43:27Speaker 1: brand that you know has a celebrity endorsing them on
- 43:29Speaker 1: TV and it says only forty calories a cup.
- 43:32Speaker 2: But when you look at the label it's got unhealthy
- 43:35Speaker 2: oils in that. That again fine for once in a
- 43:38Speaker 2: blue moon, but why eat sunflower oil or processed oils,
- 43:45Speaker 2: you know.
- 43:46Speaker 1: Man made oils when you could simply get another popcorn
- 43:48Speaker 1: bag that's made with olive oil or avocata oil or
- 43:51Speaker 1: so you know, so or make your own at home
- 43:54Speaker 1: and put some parmesan cheese on it. So you know,
- 43:56Speaker 1: there's just so many different options now that were that's
- 43:59Speaker 1: so that weren't available. And what I like to do
- 44:01Speaker 1: with you fortified and with my you know, my media content,
- 44:04Speaker 1: my events, and then my lifestyle designing, you know, my
- 44:07Speaker 1: my my one on one designing is that I vet
- 44:10Speaker 1: everything for the for the consumer, and I make it
- 44:14Speaker 1: easy for them to make the choices that works for
- 44:17Speaker 1: their body, because everybody, like I said before, is different
- 44:19Speaker 1: and everybody.
- 44:20Speaker 2: Is an individual and you have to go what works
- 44:23Speaker 2: for you. So and I do love.
- 44:24Speaker 1: Cottage cheese, and I was eating cottage cheese, you know,
- 44:27Speaker 1: we would have bagels and locks and I would say,
- 44:30Speaker 1: you know what, well, I go for the cream cheese.
- 44:33Speaker 2: Nothing wrong with cream cheese.
- 44:34Speaker 1: When I could have a cottage cheese, it's so much
- 44:36Speaker 1: more high in protein and more satisfying.
- 44:38Speaker 5: So so yeah, so as long as it's in my smoothie,
- 44:42Speaker 5: I'm okay with that.
- 44:43Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 44:43Speaker 6: I just bought the Emerging blend, the Emerging the blender
- 44:46Speaker 6: that you can put in the Cottage cheese, so that
- 44:49Speaker 6: I can do all the exciting things, all the exalth
- 44:52Speaker 6: and then one last thing, Darren, I tell you what
- 44:54Speaker 6: I'm most excited about losing the one hundred pounds. My
- 44:58Speaker 6: daughter being a mom my watching me, she lost thirty
- 45:02Speaker 6: five pounds.
- 45:02Speaker 2: Oh so exciting.
- 45:05Speaker 4: That is tremendous.
- 45:09Speaker 6: One of the things I've been telling people, Darren, is
- 45:11Speaker 6: that it's not an exciting story. You know, there's nothing
- 45:15Speaker 6: exciting about it. I lived in a calorie deficit for
- 45:18Speaker 6: three years. I decided that exercise was non negotiable. I
- 45:22Speaker 6: decided that my family didn't need to eat Thanksgiving dinner
- 45:25Speaker 6: every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday night. And most important,
- 45:30Speaker 6: the most important thing I can tell you is that
- 45:32Speaker 6: I learned to love myself and put myself first. There's
- 45:36Speaker 6: a scripture, doctor Bowh. When I know you agree, there's
- 45:38Speaker 6: a scripture that says that we're to love our neighbors.
- 45:41Speaker 6: But the other side of that says, as we love
- 45:43Speaker 6: ourselves and so doing that, it may it helped me
- 45:46Speaker 6: make that mental switch in a way that I had
- 45:49Speaker 6: never made it before. It made such an impact on
- 45:52Speaker 6: me and obviously an impact on my daughter as well.
- 45:55Speaker 6: So thanks for asking me that question.
- 45:57Speaker 5: That's great, That is great. I like how you answered that.
- 46:00Speaker 5: More exciting choices, good choices. We have better choices.
- 46:04Speaker 4: Yeah, and thank you Darren. I mean I could go on.
- 46:07Speaker 3: I've been sitting her thinking of five more questions, but
- 46:09Speaker 3: unfortunately we're, as they say, out of time. Yeah, but
- 46:13Speaker 3: thank you so much. Where can our audience find more
- 46:16Speaker 3: information about you, Fortified?
- 46:18Speaker 2: You can find more information that you Fortified.
- 46:20Speaker 1: It's yo U F O R T I F I
- 46:23Speaker 1: E D lifestyle dot com and you can see some
- 46:27Speaker 1: TV segments or events that we do a little bit
- 46:29Speaker 1: of content and message me, you know, follow us. We
- 46:33Speaker 1: also promoked up on social media. Let's have simple ways
- 46:36Speaker 1: that you can just make small modifications. And thank you
- 46:39Speaker 1: so much for having me. It's wonderful. I love the
- 46:41Speaker 1: Mom's Club and I would love to come back, so
- 46:43Speaker 1: thank you.
- 46:43Speaker 3: Thank you. Well, actually maybe we could get her back, well, Julie,
- 46:46Speaker 3: you and I could incorporate a lot of the things
- 46:48Speaker 3: that she's just shared, and we'll take up before and
- 46:51Speaker 3: after picture after the show, we're gonna take a picture.
- 46:53Speaker 5: So we'll take up before and after.
- 46:56Speaker 4: No, we both have to do it, and hey support
- 46:59Speaker 4: to each other. I'm going to do your straight class.
- 47:01Speaker 4: I guess yeah you can. We can.
- 47:03Speaker 5: I've done it before.
- 47:04Speaker 4: I'm not afraid produce and and Bill I can't wait.
- 47:08Speaker 4: So yes, thank you so much, Jarin. We would love
- 47:10Speaker 4: to have you back.
- 47:12Speaker 5: We would like I mean, I just have to say
- 47:14Speaker 5: one thing that I know how frustrating it has to
- 47:17Speaker 5: be to be a physician, to tell people all the
- 47:21Speaker 5: right things and then they don't listen to you. It's crazy.
- 47:25Speaker 4: Yes, our zoomer, our zoomer physician. Yeah, thats exactly what
- 47:29Speaker 4: that's like.
- 47:30Speaker 3: Well, thank you so much everybody for being with us.

- 47:46Speaker 4: And of course Farmhouse Fresh we always love their products,
- 47:50Speaker 4: love their amazing Yeah. Yeah, so yes, thank you to
