- 0:05Don Armstrong: From our dual city studios in Texas, USA, it is the award-winning in wheel time car talk show.
- 0:12Don Armstrong: Just ahead, Jim Rowlett.
- 0:13Don Armstrong: Uh Lone Star Street Rod Association State Run coming up in two weeks.
- 0:18Don Armstrong: And uh we're gonna talk to Jim about it.
- 0:20Don Armstrong: Uh Jeff will have the cruise in and events calendars, and I'll bring you stories making automotive news headlines this week.
- 0:24Don Armstrong: Howdy, along with Mike out of this world Mars, he's somewhere around somewhere there.
- 0:30Don Armstrong: Uh and uh we always need more Jeff Seacon.
- 0:32Don Armstrong: I'm Don Armstrong, so glad that you could join us on this Saturday.
- 0:36Don Armstrong: He may be trying to get uh our guest on.
- 0:38Don Armstrong: Oh, well, if that's the case, then good.
- 0:41Don Armstrong: Uh because um I've got some interesting stories in the news category that uh I always wind up with stories that I haven't gotten on the air.
- 0:50Don Armstrong: Well, we're not gonna do that anymore.
- 0:53Don Armstrong: He said, saying some of the nation's largest public and private dealership groups were among the ninety-seven auto retailers the Federal Trade Commission in March warned of suspected illegal advertising practices.
- 1:08Don Armstrong: The FTC refused this spring to disclose the names of the dozens of groups and dealerships that received these letters.
- 1:15Don Armstrong: However, the agency reversed course and just this past week posted the documents and recipient names to the agency's public database of warning letters.
- 1:25Don Armstrong: The FTC says it will post information if it encounters multiple Freedom of Information Act requests for its disclosure, according to a spokesperson that uh told Automotive News where we got our stories from.
- 1:38Don Armstrong: Recipients include at least four of the six large publicly traded fine franchise dealership groups, Lithia Motors, Auto Nation, Group One Automotive, and Sonic Automotive.
- 1:49Don Armstrong: In some of the letters, several of the group stores were copied.
- 1:53Don Armstrong: Publicly traded Asbury Automotive Group and Penske did not appear to be included, nor were the two major publicly traded used vehicle retailers, Carmax and Carvana.
- 2:05Don Armstrong: Uh, receipt of the warning letters did not necessarily mean guilt, according to the author.
- 2:09Don Armstrong: Uh, but he wrote in the letters that he was concerned the recipients had engaged in one of six advertising practices the FTC considers illegal.
- 2:21Don Armstrong: Uh, the letters warned dealerships it was illegal to advertise unavailable models or vehicle prices omitting anything from the actual out-the-door price except for government taxes and fees.
- 2:36Don Armstrong: Advertised prices need to include the dealership's mandatory fees on charges.
- 2:41Don Armstrong: They cannot be contingent on certain down payments using dealer financing or the consumer qualifying for a rebate that isn't universally available.
- 2:52Jeff Dziekan: You said you mentioned Lithia.
- 2:54Jeff Dziekan: I remember with Lithia only had like six dealerships up in the Midwest, Colorado, they were more of a Oklahoma kind of area.
- 3:01Jeff Dziekan: Uh and then they've expanded.
- 3:02Jeff Dziekan: This is like 25 years ago.
- 3:05Jeff Dziekan: Yep.
- 3:05Jeff Dziekan: Yeah.
- 3:06Jeff Dziekan: Penske wasn't mentioned because they probably follow the rules.
- 3:08Jeff Dziekan: They probably do everything, you know, by the book.
- 3:10Jeff Dziekan: So you know that.
- 3:11Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, absolutely.
- 3:12Don Armstrong: Yeah, because that's the way Roger Penske operates.
- 3:15Don Armstrong: Yep.
- 3:15Don Armstrong: And uh, this is a story that we did.
- 3:17Don Armstrong: Would you call and see what's going on with Mr.
- 3:19Don Armstrong: Morris?
- 3:20Don Armstrong: Thank you.
- 3:20Don Armstrong: This is a story that um we had last week.
- 3:24Don Armstrong: Lugnut, axle, diesel, and turbo have flown the nest.
- 3:30Don Armstrong: They left behind worldwide fame for the Kansas Ford dealership where they hatched atop the tire of an F-250 King Ranch.
- 3:39Don Armstrong: The two-week-old Robins left O'Lave Ford, Lincoln, on May 27th.
- 3:44Don Armstrong: According to the dealership's social media page, employees plan to leave the nest in place for a few more days just to make sure the birds don't come back before releasing the truck to the patient buyer who's been waiting for nature to take its course.
- 3:58Don Armstrong: In addition to automotive news, the Robin's unusual nesting location received coverage from the New York Times, People Magazine, The Guardian, numerous other media outlets, including In Wheel Time, with Ford helping to spread the word through a story on its media website as well.
- 4:13Don Armstrong: Federal law prohibits destroying an active robin's nest.
- 4:17Don Armstrong: Operation Wildlife, a Kansas Rehabilitation Center, advised dealership employees that they could relocate the nest to a similar pickup if needed.
- 4:26Don Armstrong: But the buyer, a construction company, agreed to wait.
- 4:31Don Armstrong: Well, that's good.
- 4:32Don Armstrong: And because the the buyer was actually a company and uh it wasn't in desperate need of the F-250, and they said that they could wait a few weeks longer before they took delivery of the big expensive F-250 King Ranch, where the birds found a nest uh on the top of the tire.
- 4:54Don Armstrong: Open wheel well.
- 4:55Don Armstrong: It was a it was a good thing for all of them.
- 4:57Don Armstrong: Did we lose Mr.
- 4:58Don Armstrong: Morris?
- 4:58Jeff Dziekan: Uh Mike is working with our guests to try to get him situated to get him on the air, so he's behind the scenes working diligently with our guests.
- 5:05Don Armstrong: Diligently.
- 5:06Don Armstrong: Okay, I'm gonna make a copy of that work.
- 5:08Don Armstrong: Steady profits, rising sales, and record stock prices were not enough to keep General Motors CEO Mary Berra, a top fortune's most powerful women, listed for a third consecutive year.
- 5:20Don Armstrong: Barra slid to number two of the publications 2026 list behind Citigroup CEO Jane Frazier.
- 5:27Don Armstrong: Jane, you never never mind.
- 5:29Jeff Dziekan: So the money automatically gives her power.
- 5:33Jeff Dziekan: Is that what it is?
- 5:34Don Armstrong: Well, it's study profits, rising sales, and record stock price.
- 5:40Don Armstrong: Anyway, since taking charge of GM in 2014, Berra has never ranked lower than fifth on the fortune list.
- 5:47Don Armstrong: Uh, she's been number one five times, including twenty-four and twenty-five.
- 5:52Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, I know what one finger they're gonna flip or one for number one.
- 5:57Don Armstrong: Dude, I you know, it amazes me that uh the the price of the cars go up, and so does her salary.
- 6:03Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 6:04Don Armstrong: All the time.
- 6:05Mike Marrs: Strange how that works, huh?
- 6:06Mike Marrs: Mike's all tied together.
- 6:08Don Armstrong: What did you say, Mike?
- 6:09Mike Marrs: I say it's all tied together for some silly reason.
- 6:11Mike Marrs: Yeah, money and power.
- 6:13Mike Marrs: Exactly.
- 6:13Don Armstrong: Okay, do we have Jim on the line?
- 6:15Mike Marrs: I believe so, sir.
- 6:16Don Armstrong: All right.
- 6:17Don Armstrong: Well, Jim Rollett is with the Lone Star Street Rod Association, and uh in preparation for the state run that's coming up in two weeks.
- 6:25Don Armstrong: Jim, good morning to you and thanks for joining us.
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: Jim?
- 6:31Don Armstrong: Okay, so that's working real well for us.
- 6:33Don Armstrong: Uh we'll just continue on with the stories.
- 6:35Don Armstrong: Biggest company in North America's retail tire and auto repair sector keeps growing.
- 6:40Don Armstrong: And you know it's funny, because I thought of you when I was looking at this story.
- 6:45Don Armstrong: Mavis Tire Express Service Corporation.
- 6:48Don Armstrong: Uh are you familiar with that?
- 6:50Jeff Dziekan: Yep, sure am.
- 6:51Don Armstrong: Which has held the top spot in tire business annual retail rankings since 2022, reached at least 2,100 company employee-owned stores this year, the most of any North American tire and auto service.
- 7:06Jeff Dziekan: They started on the East Coast many, many years ago, and like anything else, you grow and you get you get bigger.
- 7:12Don Armstrong: Mavis, which along with its namesake stores, does business as NTB, Tire Kingdom, Town Fair, Express Oil Tire Engineers, and other brands, has uh more than 800 store lead over its nearest competitors, and that would be a company called Monroe M-O-N-R-O, Incorporated, uh Reinalt Thomas Corporation, the parent company of Discount Tire, and America's Tire, according to data collected and analyzed by tire business.
- 7:43Don Armstrong: Purchase of the Midas franchise portfolio with its system-wide sales of nearly two billion dollars, gives Millwood, New York based Mavis more than 3,500 points of sale in the U.S.
- 7:55Don Armstrong: and Canada.
- 7:56Don Armstrong: Never heard of them, but I guess if we went over to the East Coast, they'd be everywhere.
- 8:00Jeff Dziekan: Yeah.
- 8:00Don Armstrong: Kind of like discount is here.
- 8:02Jeff Dziekan: Right.
- 8:02Jeff Dziekan: When uh some of the employees of ATD left, they went over to Mavis back on the East Coast, uh, you know, for employment.
- 8:09Jeff Dziekan: So I know a couple of guys that went over there, and I I know the the the retail side of it.
- 8:14Jeff Dziekan: Uh since I was on the distribution on the wholesale side, we wealth with them.
- 8:19Jeff Dziekan: Dealt with them sorry.
- 8:20Jeff Dziekan: Dealt with them in different aspects.
- 8:22Jeff Dziekan: So uh yeah, supply and supply and demand, supply chain, all that.
- 8:26Don Armstrong: Well, uh obviously we're not going to get uh Jim Rallett on, but you know what?
- 8:30Don Armstrong: We have enough knowledge since we've been there so many times.
- 8:33Jeff Dziekan: Look behind us.
- 8:34Jeff Dziekan: See that see that image behind you?
- 8:35Jeff Dziekan: I I keep asking folks to send in pictures of their cars so we can get them on and talk about them.
- 8:41Jeff Dziekan: But I had a van almost identical to this.
- 8:44Jeff Dziekan: I didn't have side pipes on it like this.
- 8:45Jeff Dziekan: Did you have did you have shag carpet in it?
- 8:47Jeff Dziekan: Uh no, we didn't get that far.
- 8:49Jeff Dziekan: Um I had a shaggy haircut at the time.
- 8:51Jeff Dziekan: But it was almost the same color, blue.
- 8:53Jeff Dziekan: Um mine was a GMC, it was a 77, and this this brought back uh I sent Mike a photo.
- 8:59Jeff Dziekan: I said I'm living my old hippie days.
- 9:00Jeff Dziekan: Those can't be real side pipes.
- 9:02Jeff Dziekan: No, I'm I'm just saying if they were, that that's a pretty stupid idea.
- 9:06Jeff Dziekan: But if you look at the real picture, they're kind of tucked under, so it I I believe they're on there.
- 9:10Jeff Dziekan: Yeah.
- 9:11Jeff Dziekan: They're not on the engine.
- 9:13Jeff Dziekan: I would well, no, they're probably like the the faux.
- 9:15Don Armstrong: My god, like a zoomy the runners on them, but have to be, you know, ten miles long.
- 9:19Don Armstrong: Well, it is, you know, the engine is up in the it's right between the driver and the passenger in the front.
- 9:24Jeff Dziekan: I know.
- 9:25Jeff Dziekan: Big cup holder on it and all that.
- 9:26Jeff Dziekan: Yeah.
- 9:27Jeff Dziekan: Yeah.
- 9:27Don Armstrong: And that's where all the crap was.
- 9:29Don Armstrong: Every everything that you could possibly have is a pocket, yeah, collection point.
- 9:34Don Armstrong: Kind of like cup holders used to be.
- 9:35Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 9:36Don Armstrong: Now you use the cup holders.
- 9:37Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, I yeah, yep.
- 9:38Jeff Dziekan: But anyways, send in your pictures of a vehicle that you drove or your current one.
- 9:42Don Armstrong: We'll get I'll have Mike put it up there and we'll and you know what I'd like to see is I'd like to see our contributing uh editors, if you want to call them that.
- 9:50Don Armstrong: Uh George Skelton and Jeff Heitzman.
- 9:53Don Armstrong: Yep.
- 9:54Don Armstrong: I'd like to see their cars back in the day.
- 9:56Jeff Dziekan: Yep.
- 9:56Jeff Dziekan: In fact, I told you we went to Johnson Space Center the whole time I was thinking of Jeff while I was there.
- 10:01Jeff Dziekan: You know, he's there.
- 10:01Jeff Dziekan: I know, he's there.
- 10:02Jeff Dziekan: We did the tram tour.
- 10:03Jeff Dziekan: It's an incredible facility.
- 10:05Jeff Dziekan: I can't say enough.
- 10:06Jeff Dziekan: Kathy and I had a great time.
- 10:07Don Armstrong: So let's talk about uh Granberry and the Lone Star Street Route Association, shall we?
- 10:11Don Armstrong: I'm packing.
- 10:12Don Armstrong: Um so um we're going to be up there a week from today doing our show.
- 10:16Don Armstrong: We're gonna have a bonus hour.
- 10:17Don Armstrong: We're gonna be on the air from 9 to noon.
- 10:21Don Armstrong: Two weeks.
- 10:22Don Armstrong: Two weeks.
- 10:23Don Armstrong: Two weeks.
- 10:23Don Armstrong: Two weeks from today, yeah.
- 10:24Don Armstrong: Yeah, two weeks.
- 10:25Don Armstrong: Two weeks.
- 10:27Don Armstrong: Yeah, we'll have the patio all decked out in two weeks.
- 10:30Don Armstrong: And it's six months later, they finally opened it.
- 10:33Jeff Dziekan: Let's this real quick.
- 10:34Jeff Dziekan: We frequent a restaurant every every weekend, uh, same Mexican restaurant, and they were remodeling the pad front area of the approach, the parking lot area.
- 10:43Jeff Dziekan: Every time we asked when it was going to be done, because there's a hole that's 12 feet deep and it's maybe 30 feet long.
- 10:47Jeff Dziekan: Oh, two more weeks will be done every time.
- 10:50Jeff Dziekan: Is that a government project?
- 10:51SPEAKER_03: Two more weeks, it was.
- 10:52SPEAKER_03: It was hysterical.
- 10:54Don Armstrong: And it was about a month and a half.
- 10:55Don Armstrong: So Lone Star Street Rod Association, back to it again, uh, Granbury, Texas, and uh it is in a park up there called Hewlett Park.
- 11:06Don Armstrong: And it's uh right on the main drag in Granbury, and uh it's also just down the street from the lake.
- 11:14Don Armstrong: And the lake, as you've probably heard if you watch this or uh get this show every week, that the lake is like 23 miles long.
- 11:22Don Armstrong: 23, 25 miles.
- 11:23Don Armstrong: Yeah, something like that.
- 11:24Don Armstrong: Surprisingly big.
- 11:24Don Armstrong: Anyway, it's a beautiful setting, it's a beautiful little town, Granbury.
- 11:28Don Armstrong: And uh not only is the town great, but so is this car show.
- 11:32Don Armstrong: It's uh nothing but hot rods from all over, and not only Texas, but uh states beyond Texas.
- 11:38Don Armstrong: They all everybody comes in for this.
- 11:40Don Armstrong: Um it's a big deal, and it's not so large that you can't get in the whole show during the day.
- 11:46Don Armstrong: You can, and yes, there's hot dogs and all that good stuff as well.
- 11:50Don Armstrong: But um, it's very easy to get to, and if you want, you can park your car and your trailer that you've brought the hot rod on at the hotel, leave it there, and the hotel's got shuttles that goes to the park.
- 12:04Don Armstrong: So and they make it really convenient for you, it doesn't cost anything for the shuttle, by the way.
- 12:09Don Armstrong: Um it's it's south of Fort Worth by about 45 minutes to an hour, depending on where you're gonna go.
- 12:16Don Armstrong: But uh, and it's not on the main drag of any major highway.
- 12:19Don Armstrong: Yes, there's a highway that goes by, but and it's easy to get to, you just gotta wiggle your way up there.
- 12:25Don Armstrong: Yeah, um from Houston, I think uh 290 would probably get you out of town, and then you'd uh head on up to uh Bryan College Station and go up that way.
- 12:36Jeff Dziekan: Make your own road trip, make your own cruise.
- 12:38Don Armstrong: Yeah, you can.
- 12:40Don Armstrong: Um we're gonna leave on Friday.
- 12:41Don Armstrong: The the actual event itself starts on Friday.
- 12:44Don Armstrong: We're gonna leave Friday from Houston and travel up there, uh spend the night and then get up at the crack of dawn or before crack of cranberry.
- 12:52Don Armstrong: Yeah, and um and we'll get all set up so we can start at nine o'clock that morning.
- 12:58Don Armstrong: Um it it's a it's a great fun adventure and uh great people, and uh you you would really enjoy it.
- 13:06Don Armstrong: It is different than any other cruise in, if you want to call it that, that we deal with in the Houston area.
- 13:12Don Armstrong: And that's not a put down for those cruise ins here in the Houston area at all.
- 13:15Don Armstrong: But it's just different.
- 13:16Don Armstrong: It's a different crowd, it's a different notoriety, and it's a di it's a different car culture as well.
- 13:22Don Armstrong: Uh we're not gonna have uh you know Honda 2000s with the pow pa.
- 13:28Don Armstrong: There's none of that.
- 13:29Don Armstrong: No, no, no, no.
- 13:30Don Armstrong: You might get a great big huge V8 that rumbles in.
- 13:33Jeff Dziekan: Well, we had that Lincoln last year, and it was huge.
- 13:36Jeff Dziekan: It was like 13 miles long, and it was pretty and pinstriped, and yeah, it was nice.
- 13:41Jeff Dziekan: And the other thing you like you were talking about.
- 13:43Don Armstrong: Again, we'll be on the air 9 to noon central time in two weeks up at Granberry for the Lone Star Street Rod Association State Run.
- 13:51Don Armstrong: This will be the 52nd?
- 13:54Don Armstrong: 51st or 52nd state run.
- 13:55Don Armstrong: 51.
- 13:56Don Armstrong: Um, but um it's it's a great time, and we invite you to join us.
- 13:59Don Armstrong: Look forward to it.
- 14:00Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, not all wherever you're coming from.
- 14:04Jeff Dziekan: Uh, we like to stop at the little towns and you know do a little knick-nack uh shopping and kind of take in the the the depth and breadth of of what Texas has to offer on the way up.
- 14:15Jeff Dziekan: So good point.
- 14:16Jeff Dziekan: Yep, very nice stuff.
- 14:17Jeff Dziekan: And we could enhance Mike's travel.
- 14:20Jeff Dziekan: Traveling's average to do destinations.
- 14:23Don Armstrong: Uh coming up, Jeff has the cruise in and events calendars, and I'll have the stories making automotive news headlines this week.

- 18:40Jeff Dziekan: Now that's not too far from here.
- 18:41Jeff Dziekan: It's a nice little cruise up drive.
- 18:43Jeff Dziekan: It's a great cruise.
- 18:44Jeff Dziekan: That is at uh where is that?
- 18:47Jeff Dziekan: It's at 14200 Rural Road 12 in Wimberley.
- 18:51Jeff Dziekan: Starts at 8 a.m.

- 18:53Don Armstrong: Rural Road.
- 18:54Don Armstrong: Rural Rural.
- 18:54Jeff Dziekan: Rural Rural.
- 18:55Jeff Dziekan: Yep.
- 18:56Jeff Dziekan: Organizers invite car enthusiasts in the community to attend this.
- 18:59Jeff Dziekan: I think that's a rural route.
- 19:00Jeff Dziekan: Rural route, rural road?
- 19:01Jeff Dziekan: Okay.
- 19:02Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 19:02Jeff Dziekan: R R could be Railroad 12.
- 19:04Don Armstrong: It's not Railroad 12.
- 19:06Jeff Dziekan: Take a train, you'll be better.
- 19:07Jeff Dziekan: There you go.
- 19:08Jeff Dziekan: Yeah.
- 19:08Don Armstrong: Save some money on gas.
- 19:10Jeff Dziekan: Yeah.
- 19:10Jeff Dziekan: Two weeks we'll be at Granberry.
- 19:11Jeff Dziekan: It's going to be fun.
- 19:12Jeff Dziekan: Come on out.
- 19:13Jeff Dziekan: Mike, I think, is setting up a kissing booth out there.
- 19:15Jeff Dziekan: It's going to be great.
- 19:16Jeff Dziekan: So I thought about it.
- 19:17Mike Marrs: I'm waiting to find out if my wife is coming or not.
- 19:20Don Armstrong: Is she not coming again?
- 19:22Mike Marrs: Well, she's she's Debating.
- 19:25Mike Marrs: Debating.
- 19:25Mike Marrs: Yeah.
- 19:26Don Armstrong: So so women's grown grown children.
- 19:31Don Armstrong: You have grown grandchildren.
- 19:33Don Armstrong: Bring them to what what is it that uh that she's gonna stay home for this time?
- 19:37Mike Marrs: Well don't get me started.
- 19:42SPEAKER_03: Do you do we need to call her?
- 19:44SPEAKER_03: No, you don't need to call her.
- 19:45Mike Marrs: No, that would just that would make it worse.
- 19:47SPEAKER_03: I was gonna say we could stir it up over there.
- 19:49SPEAKER_03: If you call her Mike's not going to be a good thing.
- 19:58Mike Marrs: Sometimes she gets left out if she's the only one.
- 20:00Mike Marrs: Kathy's going, so Kathy will be the Well I just found that out, so I'm hoping that that will encourage her to uh Well we can have Kathy call.
- 20:08Jeff Dziekan: We're gonna stop the places.
- 20:10Jeff Dziekan: We're doing the we're doing the uh tourist road trip thing.
- 20:13Jeff Dziekan: We always make a weekend out of it.
- 20:16Jeff Dziekan: You laugh, you have fun, you you know, you have a uh couple of adult beverages.
- 20:20Don Armstrong: Well for me it all depends on when I leave as whether I can stop and you know meet you and in some sort of uh bizarre little town that's uh you know one school one school there, yeah, that kind of thing.
- 20:34Jeff Dziekan: Bizarre thing.
- 20:34Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 20:36Don Armstrong: Honda will halt production of the ridgeline for 18 months because the pickup cannot meet emissions regulations.
- 20:45Don Armstrong: Whoa.
- 20:46Don Armstrong: Honda, the company that sold everything to everybody.
- 20:52Don Armstrong: The the the popularity of the Honda Accord back in the late 80s, early 90s, and I mean ever my ex actually had a brand new Honda Accord, it was a nice little car.
- 21:04Don Armstrong: Is this the same?
- 21:04Don Armstrong: They've gone down the toilet.
- 21:05Mike Marrs: Is this the same?
- 21:06Mike Marrs: So did we.
- 21:07Mike Marrs: We bought one because it was a Honda and it was so good back then.
- 21:11Don Armstrong: Yeah, exactly.
- 21:11Don Armstrong: The Japanese automaker will stop building the mid-sized truck in Lincoln, Alabama in the fourth quarter.
- 21:17Don Armstrong: So it plans to assemble a heavily refreshed ridge line at the same plant starting in the third quarter of 2028.
- 21:28Mike Marrs: So for a year and a half they're gonna quit?
- 21:30Don Armstrong: Yep.
- 21:31Don Armstrong: Makeover is expected to include design changes, revised components, and an updated V6 engine to comply with regulations.
- 21:41Don Armstrong: This is according to people with knowledge of the plan and automotive news who published it.
- 21:46Don Armstrong: Honda is one of six automakers still obligated to improve vehicle efficiency under oh, here it is.
- 21:53Don Armstrong: California rules through the twenty twenty six model years.
- 22:00Don Armstrong: The Trump administration's moves to reduce environmental regulations.
- 22:14Mike Marrs: It's a big number of cars, but it's a small percentage of the country, you got to do something special for that nobody else wants.
- 22:24Don Armstrong: I don't know, but uh you know, here's the deal.
- 22:25Don Armstrong: So let's say, for instance, you live in LA, like Jack.
- 22:29Don Armstrong: You've bought a new Honda eight years ago under California emissions regulations.
- 22:37Don Armstrong: Now you're going to be moving to Texas.
- 22:40Don Armstrong: Guess what?
- 22:41Don Armstrong: Who wants a car of any kind with California emissions equipment on it?
- 22:49Don Armstrong: That's it, you know, uh more money to keep up with.
- 22:53Don Armstrong: Were you gonna say something?
- 22:54Mike Marrs: Yeah, I was.
- 22:55Mike Marrs: I was gonna say that's that's the thing about it, because I've looked at that before.
- 22:58Mike Marrs: Like what happens?
- 22:59Mike Marrs: You don't have to disclose that you got that car in California.
- 23:04Mike Marrs: You don't know it until you get the title.
- 23:06Mike Marrs: And really and truly, if they go through the title transfer process, you never really see.
- 23:10Mike Marrs: Yeah, Jack Nierad had it, and this was his home address, but you don't know for sure that that was a California emission.
- 23:16Don Armstrong: I'll bet you Carfax has that.
- 23:18Jeff Dziekan: Yeah.
- 23:18Jeff Dziekan: That may be true.
- 23:19Mike Marrs: You you can do some research and probably find it.
- 23:22Jeff Dziekan: Well, there's the uh Secretary of State of California would have it.
- 23:26Jeff Dziekan: Because it'd have to pass emissions to get through the tech secretary state for plates.
- 23:30Mike Marrs: Yeah, but can you afford the bribes that it would take to get that information?
- 23:34Mike Marrs: The bribes.
- 23:36Mike Marrs: Well, there is Excuse me.
- 23:37Mike Marrs: The the donation, campaign donations.
- 23:40Mike Marrs: There you go.
- 23:42Don Armstrong: I don't I don't know.
- 23:43Don Armstrong: I I don't know as if I'd want a California car.
- 23:46Don Armstrong: Um I'm sure that there's nothing wrong with them, but I worry about what what is on that emissions control vehicle for California that's different than mine that I'm gonna wind up having to pay for to keep the car actually current.
- 24:02Don Armstrong: Because once you inherit the car, you buy the car, you're supposed to keep up with all of that stuff.
- 24:08Jeff Dziekan: What about all the smog pumps that were disconnected and taken off in the 70s of some of the cars?
- 24:13Jeff Dziekan: Well, mauler cars.
- 24:14Jeff Dziekan: If they did that, they can't get past the inspections now.
- 24:18Mike Marrs: You know, San Antonio just started doing the same inspections that y'all do there in Houston.
- 24:23Mike Marrs: Well, you keep a lot of people upset.
- 24:25Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 24:25Don Armstrong: Well, I will tell you that uh in 1977, when I bought the Corvette, my first Corvette, one of the first things that I did was I and it was still underwater.
- 24:36Don Armstrong: No, I didn't.
- 24:37Don Armstrong: I took the whole pump off.
- 24:39Don Armstrong: I took the small pump off because I put the pumpkin pump.
- 24:41Don Armstrong: Oh, you're going for weight.
- 24:42Don Armstrong: No, I put the headers on it.
- 24:44Don Armstrong: So it just kind of blew out everything.
- 24:47Don Armstrong: And uh remember the recirculation valve went into the into the air cleaner?
- 24:53Don Armstrong: Nah, forget that air cleaner.
- 24:54Don Armstrong: That is dumb looking.
- 24:56Don Armstrong: We've got to put some open element.
- 24:57Mike Marrs: Nice chrome one up there that doesn't have all that nasty looking hose on it.
- 25:02Jeff Dziekan: And then you had the heater, the heater tube from the exhaust manifold up into the intake, the snorkel.
- 25:07Don Armstrong: Uh-huh.
- 25:07Jeff Dziekan: All that.
- 25:08Jeff Dziekan: Take that off.
- 25:09Don Armstrong: Take that, get rid of that.
- 25:10Don Armstrong: That's clogging up the good looks of the engine.
- 25:12Jeff Dziekan: You know what it look good in here?
- 25:13Jeff Dziekan: An LS.
- 25:14Jeff Dziekan: Drop one in.
- 25:16Don Armstrong: Um, I was just reading uh yesterday that apparently there is somewhere roaming around an actual 1969 Chevrolet DZ302 engine that's up for sale.
- 25:28Don Armstrong: But it's not all original parts, but it is a DC block D Z block, which is uh exclusive to the Camaro Z28 uh back in the day.
- 25:38Don Armstrong: That the factory said has, I don't know, 305 horsepower.
- 25:42Don Armstrong: Liars.
- 25:43Don Armstrong: It had a lot more horsepower than that, and it revved up to like 7,000 RPM and they blew up all over the place.
- 25:49Don Armstrong: But whatever the case may be, I looked at that and I thought, oh would I love to have a car with a DZ motor in it, especially a 69 Camaro.
- 25:59Mike Marrs: Or a 32 Ford Coop.
- 26:01Don Armstrong: No, I wouldn't want to do it.
- 26:03Don Armstrong: No, I wouldn't want to waste it on that.
- 26:04Don Armstrong: It'd have to be something in the 60s.
- 26:07Don Armstrong: Maybe you could put that D Z motor into a uh I was gonna say a Chevelle.
- 26:13Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, or a Nova.
- 26:14Don Armstrong: Any of those, yeah.
- 26:16Jeff Dziekan: Some Chevy 2, something like that.
- 26:17Mike Marrs: Yeah, Chevelle might be a little heavy, but a Nova would absolutely be good.
- 26:20Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, whatever.
- 26:22Don Armstrong: Absolutely.
- 26:23Don Armstrong: Just keep keep it in the family, keep it in the Chevy family.
- 26:26Don Armstrong: In the old GM make Mary Berra happy.
- 26:30Don Armstrong: No.
- 26:32Don Armstrong: That's not gonna happen that's not gonna happen.
- 26:35Don Armstrong: Um bless her heart.
- 26:36Don Armstrong: Next hour I'm gonna have a news story.
- 26:38Don Armstrong: Um what Chevy did for the 250th birthday of the country at the Indy 500 this year.
- 26:45Don Armstrong: I think that you're gonna find it.
- 26:46Jeff Dziekan: Oh, yeah.
- 26:47Jeff Dziekan: Oh, you know what?
- 26:48Jeff Dziekan: Interesting story.
- 26:49Jeff Dziekan: Don't don't blow it.
- 26:50Jeff Dziekan: No, I don't know your story, but I've got a story.
