Transcript
- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset coach, creative strategist, and also happened to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good afternoon. Chilly afternoon from the
- 0:30chicken coop and I'm watching my husband who's watching a
- 0:35football game right now and he's riddled with anxiety over what's
- 0:39going to happen. Got me thinking about how when I
- 0:41was a kid, anxiety, as we've talked about many times, was
- 0:45something that was a huge part of my life.
- 0:49It was a state I was often engaged in that emotion which
- 0:54caused the state of just overwhelm and you name it,
- 0:58everything else was thrown into the mix.
- 1:00And I know that very, very well. And what really struck me this
- 1:04afternoon was how how quickly we can lose ourselves to anxiety
- 1:10and how much it stays and how much we pick on up on someone
- 1:14elses. So here I am.
- 1:16I'm having a very relaxing afternoon.
- 1:20And because I'm recording this on Sunday afternoon and putting
- 1:22this up Monday morning, just so you know, so I can be out here
- 1:25with the chickens and doing this.
- 1:27And one of the things that I recognized was I was not
- 1:30anxious. I had nothing to be anxious
- 1:32about. I was, you know, basically
- 1:35sitting working on doing video editing, trying to learn some
- 1:38new techniques and video editing studying.
- 1:42I had a book I was reading. I was looking at plants that I
- 1:44wanted to order. I've got 75 legitimate 75 tabs
- 1:48on my computer. I was completely like in
- 1:51engulfed in another state of being.
- 1:54I was deep in curiosity and all of a sudden I could feel his
- 1:58anxiety going up, up, up, getting closer to the game and
- 2:02how all of a sudden I was picking up on that.
- 2:04And then before you know it, I felt like I was riddled with
- 2:08anxiety and I wasn't even anxious prior to that.
- 2:11But this is how it works with strong emotions.
- 2:15We can even with weak emotions, it just if they're consistent,
- 2:18we can pick up on them. But that but for some reason,
- 2:21you know, there are those of us who have a very high sensitivity
- 2:25to picking up any emotion. I like to refer to it as being
- 2:29thinly veiled. I just all of a sudden I can
- 2:32feel it. And once I start to feel it, I
- 2:34get like and and it almost feels physically to me like I drank
- 2:39coffee with caffeine because it makes me very uncomfortable if I
- 2:44drink coffee with caffeine but or even tea that's caffeinated.
- 2:48Caffeine doesn't make me feel great and I'm already amped up
- 2:51enough without it and I really don't need it.
- 2:53But it, it gives me like the heebie jeebies and I can't
- 2:56explain it. But when you couple that with it
- 3:00being like that's the physical aspect, but the actual mental
- 3:04aspect is it's just overwhelmed. All of a sudden I find myself
- 3:08going down a rabbit hole thinking about all the things
- 3:11that I have to do this week, thinking about all the stuff
- 3:14that I haven't gotten done that I'm probably not going to be
- 3:17able to get done because of the weather, whatever.
- 3:20I all of a sudden there you go. And before you know it, I'm
- 3:24trying to clean at the same time I'm trying to do the other stuff
- 3:28that I was doing at the same time that I'm listening, you
- 3:31know, okay, who's how does anybody have dirty laundry?
- 3:34I want to put laundry in and I start the panic process and
- 3:37anxiety is right at the front of my bus and making me crazy.
- 3:41So the reason I'm bringing this up and and pointing it out in
- 3:45this way and telling you exactly what happened on a very like
- 3:48relaxed Sunday day. I mean, I woke up this morning.
- 3:51My son-in-law was out doing he's he's becoming a pastor and he
- 3:56was out doing a, a sermon out by the water.
- 4:00It was beautiful. My son and I went, we watched it
- 4:03even though it was cold. We were in this little building
- 4:05on the dock. It was, it was beautiful.
- 4:07I had nothing to be anxious about.
- 4:09Came home, made my son lunch, everything was great.
- 4:12My day even started off great. So where did the anxiety come
- 4:15from? And it was borrowed.
- 4:17It was borrowed from what was going on in my husbands head
- 4:19over something as silly as a football game.
- 4:23And that's what's important. It can be picked up, it can be
- 4:26transmitted, it can you can pick it up from anything, anywhere,
- 4:30anytime. And that goes for any emotion.
- 4:33So when you start feeling something, you have to pause and
- 4:35ask yourself, is this mine or did I borrow this?
- 4:38And by the third load of dishes, because my husband is cooking
- 4:42during this football game to distract himself.
- 4:44And when he cooks, it's like Edward Scissorhands in the
- 4:47kitchen. Everything is everywhere.
- 4:48And I can't stand it. And I don't mind.
- 4:50So I start cleaning. I like cleaning, so I start
- 4:53doing the dishes and fixing things up and doing dishes and
- 4:57fixing things up and doing dishes and fixing things up.
- 4:59But by the 3rd or 4th load of dishes I was like, OK, I really
- 5:04feel off what is going on? And then I started to explore it
- 5:07and I was like, ah, I get it. So I said, oh you know what, I'm
- 5:10going to come out now. I'm going to record while the
- 5:13girls are having a snack. I'm going to hit my reset button
- 5:16and I'm going to go back in and I'm not going to allow myself to
- 5:20go in there unconsciously. I'm going to go in very aware of
- 5:23how I want to feel and settle down.
- 5:26So take some advice from someone who's very thinly veiled with
- 5:30picking up on emotions when I'm not being aware of it or in my
- 5:34coaching head. You know, you have to stay on
- 5:37it. You have to really understand is
- 5:39this mine or am I borrowing it because it can come from
- 5:41anywhere, my friends. OK, I hope you guys have a
- 5:45blessed day and I will see you tomorrow.
- 5:47Bye.
