- 0:47Speaker 2: when the game, we're gonna lie about it. I want
- 0:48Speaker 2: you to give me two options.
- 0:50Speaker 3: One, Wow, cowboys, can you believe it got to playing
- 0:54Speaker 3: so well? Got a great shot super Bowl? And then
- 0:56Speaker 3: then to the other version of that. Okay, so uh
- 1:00Speaker 3: and who knows me? Leave them both in. Go on,
- 1:01Speaker 3: it's to be funny, all right, Let's do the version
- 1:03Speaker 3: where the cowboy. They're really doing well?
- 1:04Speaker 1: Right and go Wow, guys, I mean, dude, who would
- 1:07Speaker 1: have thought this is so unbelievable?
- 1:09Speaker 2: We went in, we beat the Bills, I mean, we
- 1:11Speaker 2: beat the Dolphins, and then we beat freaking Detroit. Guys,
- 1:15Speaker 2: we're on a roll. I don't I think we're unstoppable.
- 1:16Speaker 2: We're gonna win Super Bowl. Wow.
- 1:18Speaker 3: Okay, I don't know about winning all three of those
- 1:21Speaker 3: games if that's actually accurate or not.
- 1:23Speaker 2: But did you see that, dude? And Dak's six touchdowns
- 1:25Speaker 2: in one game? Wow? Unbelievable. Is he gonna win the MVP?
- 1:30Speaker 2: All right?
- 1:31Speaker 4: Well?
- 1:31Speaker 2: Go cowboys?
- 1:32Speaker 4: Cowboys?
- 1:33Speaker 2: All right?
- 1:33Speaker 1: The opposite And I don't know, dude, Like, how do
- 1:38Speaker 1: they blow it like this?
- 1:38Speaker 2: Don't cry, No, it's just gonna get mad. Fun out
- 1:41Speaker 2: for crying.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Man, it's just hard man, Like they had such a
- 1:43Speaker 1: good thing going and then they're just gonna blow it.
- 1:46Speaker 2: You know what typical cowboys? Fsh I was gonna ask
- 1:48Speaker 2: if you somewhat expected it. It's kind of what the
- 1:50Speaker 2: cowboys do.
- 1:51Speaker 4: Man.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Well, I'm sorry. I'm also sad because I had a
- 1:53Speaker 2: future and had Dak for MVP? Is that happening? I don't.
- 1:56Speaker 2: I mean, do you think it's happening. I don't think so.
- 1:57Speaker 2: I played in three games he got it. Not doing
- 2:01Speaker 2: that one. I'm not doing that version. That's dark man. Yeah,
- 2:07Speaker 2: what are you talking about? All right?
- 2:08Speaker 3: Cut, all right, here we are, so we'll talk to
- 2:12Speaker 3: to two times Super Bowl champion Logan Ryan and former
- 2:16Speaker 3: second overall pick from the two thousand NFL draft, LeVar Arrington.
- 2:19Speaker 3: Logan Ryan was coming out with this one show and
- 2:21Speaker 3: he messaged me early early, early in the morning, was like,
- 2:24Speaker 3: I just got picked up by the forty nine ers.
- 2:26Speaker 2: Can we do it next day? I was like, dud don't,
- 2:27Speaker 2: don't do it all you don't worry about it.
- 2:29Speaker 3: I was like, dude, we're good. Go play for the
- 2:30Speaker 3: forty nine ers. It's pretty cool. So h He won
- 2:33Speaker 3: two Super Bowls with Patriots in fourteen and sixteen. He
- 2:36Speaker 3: gave us some great recruiting insight. Good dude, love to
- 2:38Speaker 3: having him. Here is Logan Ryan?
- 2:41Speaker 2: Logan, where do you live?
- 2:42Speaker 4: Like?
- 2:42Speaker 2: What town I live in? Currently in Tampa, Florida.
- 2:45Speaker 3: So what's up in Nashville? Like we're lucky to have
- 2:48Speaker 3: first of all super pumpture here. Yeah, but like, what's here?
- 2:52Speaker 2: You're here. Yeah, that's true. I can agree with that.
- 2:55Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, you know, I was hosting Good Morning Football
- 2:59Speaker 5: and had a lot of fun doing that and got
- 3:01Speaker 5: some good, good feedback, and my publicist was kind of
- 3:04Speaker 5: working the phones a little bit and opportunity coming to
- 3:08Speaker 5: your podcast, which was awesome. And I used to live here,
- 3:11Speaker 5: so I lived here for three four years. My content
- 3:13Speaker 5: guys out here. I got a lot of friends on
- 3:16Speaker 5: the Titans. So so I'm doing some more media while
- 3:19Speaker 5: my name is hot and hanging out with you.
- 3:21Speaker 2: Is that the goal?
- 3:22Speaker 3: Because I know you probably want to Are you a
- 3:24Speaker 3: free agent? Yeah, you're waiting for the call, or you like,
- 3:27Speaker 3: screw the call I'm getting. I'm doing media because it's
- 3:29Speaker 3: awesome either or you know, I'm still training six days
- 3:33Speaker 3: a week. But I'm taking advantage of the opportunities. And
- 3:35Speaker 3: I've always you know, when I was a Tennessee Titans,
- 3:37Speaker 3: I hosted a Logan Ryan Show, where I hosted a
- 3:39Speaker 3: radio show for two three years. I hosted a show
- 3:41Speaker 3: in New York, hosted the NFL Player podcast. I've always
- 3:44Speaker 3: been like the speech before the locker room guy.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Were you always that guy in high school too? Yeah?
- 3:51Speaker 5: I was a quarterback growing up like and growing up
- 3:54Speaker 5: my whole life. I was a point guard. I was
- 3:56Speaker 5: a quarterback. I was a pitcher, so I always had
- 3:57Speaker 5: the ball in my hands. I was always a guy
- 3:59Speaker 5: in spy.
- 4:00Speaker 2: I know.
- 4:01Speaker 5: You know how a lot of guys say, oh, you know,
- 4:03Speaker 5: I kind of lead by my actions, not I.
- 4:05Speaker 2: Like I do both. Yeah I felt that, Yeah, I
- 4:07Speaker 2: lead by my words.
- 4:08Speaker 3: At what age did you start to be because let's see,
- 4:11Speaker 3: like in ninth grade, I'm not the athletic ar. I'm
- 4:13Speaker 3: not comparing that, but I'm just going to tell you
- 4:15Speaker 3: my story. In ninth grade, I got to move out
- 4:17Speaker 3: played with senior high team ten eleven twelfth graders. But
- 4:18Speaker 3: I didn't say anything because I'm the freaking ninth grader
- 4:20Speaker 3: and I didn't play as a ninth grader. Yeah, when
- 4:23Speaker 3: did you start playing? And when could you actually be
- 4:25Speaker 3: a vocal leader in high school? Because I'm imagining that
- 4:28Speaker 3: you were far more athletic than the other kids your age.
- 4:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:31Speaker 5: So when I got to high school, I started varsity
- 4:34Speaker 5: basketball as a freshman, but I was on the freshman
- 4:37Speaker 5: football team, so I led my little, you know, freshman
- 4:41Speaker 5: teammates on the freshman games. But I wasn't on varsity
- 4:43Speaker 5: and in basketball, I kind of was the point guard.
- 4:46Speaker 5: But I mean these kids my brother was four years older. Mean,
- 4:49Speaker 5: my brother was a senior and I was a freshman,
- 4:51Speaker 5: and I was playing with his friends, and I felt
- 4:53Speaker 5: really little compared to them, Like I was like, I
- 4:54Speaker 5: didn't have a voice.
- 4:55Speaker 2: I just ran the place.
- 4:56Speaker 3: You were playing as like a fourteen year old fifteen
- 4:58Speaker 3: years old with eighteen year old Yeah that's you. Were
- 5:02Speaker 3: you as good as some of them. I was definitely
- 5:04Speaker 3: good enough to be on the court, for sure.
- 5:06Speaker 2: I wasn't.
- 5:06Speaker 5: I wasn't the best player at fourteen on our team.
- 5:08Speaker 5: Yeah I knew that. But by you know, my sophomore
- 5:14Speaker 5: junior year, yeah, definitely, So I kind of grew into it.
- 5:17Speaker 5: I would say, once that ball got in my hands
- 5:20Speaker 5: and I realized what we needed to win, and I
- 5:21Speaker 5: wasn't afraid to step up and demand that because I
- 5:24Speaker 5: always wanted, you know, to win more than anything else.
- 5:26Speaker 3: I was watching The redeem Team on Netflix. I don't
- 5:28Speaker 3: know if you've seen it yet. It's about, you know,
- 5:30Speaker 3: the US Olympic basketball team got a bronze and they
- 5:33Speaker 3: were embarrassed and they had to somehow get a new
- 5:36Speaker 3: coach get the players to commit in because to a
- 5:38Speaker 3: lot of those guys, I would get that, being twenty
- 5:40Speaker 3: two and rich and you just got and now they
- 5:42Speaker 3: want you to go train for months, and I would
- 5:44Speaker 3: get why some of them wouldn't.
- 5:45Speaker 2: Want to do that. I watched that. I loved it.
- 5:47Speaker 2: Wasn't it awesome?
- 5:48Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 5:48Speaker 2: Man, I got a Kobe tattoo on me.
- 5:50Speaker 5: They had to bring Kobe in that, you know, they
- 5:52Speaker 5: had to bring Kobe in it to really win that.
- 5:54Speaker 2: And and that was my point about leadership.
- 5:57Speaker 3: And I always understood and respect to Kobe because in
- 6:00Speaker 3: my mind's probably the third greatest player of all time,
- 6:02Speaker 3: top three for sure. And the fact that the guys were,
- 6:06Speaker 3: like we were in Vegas, we went to the club,
- 6:08Speaker 3: we did what we put in Kobe's their gloves on
- 6:11Speaker 3: going to the gym when they're coming in four am.
- 6:13Speaker 3: And all those guys slowly started to do what Kobe
- 6:17Speaker 3: was doing because he was doing it and he was
- 6:20Speaker 3: that leader.
- 6:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:21Speaker 3: So you say you were vocal and by example, were
- 6:26Speaker 3: you like first one in, last one out type guy?
- 6:28Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 6:28Speaker 5: I kind of picked up that because I was never
- 6:31Speaker 5: I was always like one of the best athletes. But
- 6:34Speaker 5: there was always like a more physical freak on the team.
- 6:36Speaker 5: Like I wasn't like we're all out of bed better
- 6:38Speaker 5: than everybody. I was like more skilled because I worked
- 6:41Speaker 5: on it. And I remember my mom would pick me
- 6:44Speaker 5: up in high school every day after work. My mom
- 6:46Speaker 5: worked at nine to five, nine to four thirty, and
- 6:48Speaker 5: she would pick me up at like five o'clock five pm,
- 6:51Speaker 5: and we would get out of high school at like
- 6:53Speaker 5: two two thirty. So in football season, obviously had practice
- 6:56Speaker 5: and my mom would pick me up. But out of
- 6:58Speaker 5: football basketball season the spring, I had two and a
- 7:01Speaker 5: half hours to kill.
- 7:02Speaker 2: You know, I wasn't taking the bus home.
- 7:04Speaker 5: So I was just literally every day Monday through Friday
- 7:08Speaker 5: in the weight room, five days a week, lifting for
- 7:10Speaker 5: an hour or two, going out to the field doing
- 7:13Speaker 5: just drills that I made up. And then eventually more
- 7:16Speaker 5: people came out there and I would put a ladder
- 7:17Speaker 5: drills down, do a drill to drills, and I was like.
- 7:19Speaker 2: Pretty much running the drills. Yeah, so I was pretty.
- 7:21Speaker 5: Much coming up with drills that I would see on
- 7:24Speaker 5: I mean, shoot, even know if YouTube was out back then,
- 7:26Speaker 5: but whatever I was, I was just finding drills and
- 7:29Speaker 5: doing them and doing this and that was kind of leadership, right,
- 7:33Speaker 5: Like I'm doing these these offseason workouts, but I just
- 7:35Speaker 5: was like waiting for my mom to pick me up.
- 7:37Speaker 3: Did you have a good relationship with the coaches, because
- 7:39Speaker 3: it sounds like you love the game games we can
- 7:42Speaker 3: say games, and you also weren't afraid to put work in.
- 7:45Speaker 3: Were you the guy that they would lean on high
- 7:47Speaker 3: school and college to go?
- 7:48Speaker 2: All right? You got to be the voice to those guys,
- 7:50Speaker 2: be my voice to them.
- 7:52Speaker 5: Right, Yeah, I think so, Especially playing the quarterback position
- 7:55Speaker 5: and stuff. I just think there's certain positions in sports
- 7:57Speaker 5: where you expect the leader there and I kind of
- 7:59Speaker 5: was that. So I think it happened naturally mainly because
- 8:02Speaker 5: of the position I played. But I do remember, like
- 8:04Speaker 5: my junior sophomore, junior year when I kind of was
- 8:06Speaker 5: stepping in the role as varsity quarterback and stuff. I
- 8:11Speaker 5: was not great at pregame speeches, Like I didn't want
- 8:13Speaker 5: to talk and I felt like a senior should talk,
- 8:15Speaker 5: you know, before the game. Like I was silent, and
- 8:18Speaker 5: I would always get really nervous before a game still do,
- 8:20Speaker 5: Like I always get like a little bit nervous and tense.
- 8:23Speaker 2: And I just was really really quiet.
- 8:24Speaker 5: And I feel like that developed more in the NFL
- 8:27Speaker 5: in college of having the you know, taking public speaking
- 8:29Speaker 5: classes and whatnot.
- 8:30Speaker 2: Just having the confidence to go up.
- 8:32Speaker 5: In front of a room of one hundred people and
- 8:36Speaker 5: motivate them without feeling like, you know, a clown or
- 8:38Speaker 5: say something dumb or mess it up, you know, or
- 8:40Speaker 5: be laughed at. And I just think that came in older,
- 8:43Speaker 5: like giving actual the speech, but actually just on the field. Yeah,
- 8:47Speaker 5: when I'm playing in between the lines, you had a
- 8:49Speaker 5: leadership always came out.
- 8:51Speaker 3: Were you super educated on what was happening every game?
- 8:54Speaker 3: Put the time in the film room always? Was that
- 8:56Speaker 3: a priority? Or did you have to learn how.
- 8:57Speaker 2: To do that later? I learnedarn how to I learned
- 9:01Speaker 2: how to do that later.
- 9:02Speaker 5: But growing up, my dad coached me when I was little,
- 9:06Speaker 5: maybe up till I don't know, ten eleven years old.
- 9:09Speaker 5: And every year, like I said, I played, I played
- 9:12Speaker 5: offense and I played defense so I didn't come off
- 9:14Speaker 5: the field, and I swear every year he made me
- 9:17Speaker 5: change positions. He's like, all right, well last year receiver,
- 9:19Speaker 5: this year gonna play run out to learn, yeah, and
- 9:21Speaker 5: then this year're gonna do this And then We had
- 9:22Speaker 5: a really good team in like eighth grade, and we
- 9:25Speaker 5: went in literally we went like unscored upon, Like we
- 9:28Speaker 5: beat everybody thirty five to nothing and didn't give up
- 9:31Speaker 5: a point the entire season. And on that team, we
- 9:34Speaker 5: had like three NFL players in like six Division one
- 9:36Speaker 5: wrestlers out of like eleven starters, like nine of us
- 9:38Speaker 5: went to college for sports.
- 9:39Speaker 2: So it was a really good team.
- 9:41Speaker 5: But in the second half, my dad would make all
- 9:44Speaker 5: the skill players play a line and get the old
- 9:46Speaker 5: lineman the ball so that they, you know, we would
- 9:49Speaker 5: block for them. Yeah, you know, and I just felt
- 9:51Speaker 5: like why are we doing this? You know, But like
- 9:55Speaker 5: I love my old lineman, you know, I always treat
- 9:57Speaker 5: them well, and I understood what it was like to block.
- 10:00Speaker 5: I played tight end, I played receiver, I played running back,
- 10:02Speaker 5: I played quarterback, I played corner, I played safety, and
- 10:05Speaker 5: really in the NFL really helped my versatility because I
- 10:08Speaker 5: learned the game from so many different angles and even
- 10:10Speaker 5: when I played defense in the NFL, I think but
- 10:12Speaker 5: from like a reverse quarterback perspective, like Okay, what is
- 10:14Speaker 5: he reading? He's probably gonna throw this because I'm showing
- 10:16Speaker 5: him that.
- 10:17Speaker 3: It's like you're reverse engineering. Yeah, what exactly you think
- 10:20Speaker 3: is about to happen?
- 10:21Speaker 2: Yeah? Dang.
- 10:22Speaker 3: So when you're in high school you play quarterback? Did
- 10:24Speaker 3: you just were you recruited as a quarterback?
- 10:26Speaker 5: So that was back before they wanted like, you know,
- 10:30Speaker 5: six foot black quarterbacks running around the NFL like that's
- 10:33Speaker 5: not the just the norm.
- 10:34Speaker 3: Now did you feel like because you were a six
- 10:35Speaker 3: foot black quarterback that was actually held against you, Well.
- 10:38Speaker 5: They're going to recruit you as an athlete. So what
- 10:39Speaker 5: happens is there? Like everybody like, like I would say,
- 10:43Speaker 5: half of you know, college football players probably played quarterback
- 10:47Speaker 5: when they were growing up because they're the best player
- 10:48Speaker 5: and they want the ball in their hands. But back then,
- 10:50Speaker 5: they would say you're going to be a receiver, or
- 10:52Speaker 5: you're gonna be a corner, or you're gonna be a safety.
- 10:55Speaker 5: So I knew, like looking ahead, like, yeah, I'm probably
- 10:57Speaker 5: gonna end up being a corner. And I played corner
- 10:59Speaker 5: as well, and I was ranked pretty high in New
- 11:01Speaker 5: Jersey for it, so I kind of knew already what
- 11:04Speaker 5: it was, but they did. You just didn't have the
- 11:06Speaker 5: opportunities division one to be like, oh, you're five eleven
- 11:10Speaker 5: and a half and you know you're a great athlete,
- 11:13Speaker 5: We're gonna make you play a different position, like quarterback
- 11:15Speaker 5: is for these type of guys. Six foot four, white,
- 11:18Speaker 5: two hundred and twenty five pound guys.
- 11:20Speaker 4: You know.
- 11:20Speaker 5: But now the NFL, as you see, has caught up
- 11:24Speaker 5: and Bryce Young, Yeah, Bryce Young, Kyler Murray's five nine,
- 11:29Speaker 5: No these dudes. I I remember hosting the draft in
- 11:32Speaker 5: Nashville when they had the draft in Nashville a couple
- 11:35Speaker 5: of years ago, and I was actually working in media
- 11:37Speaker 5: and I was on the red carpet hosting these guys,
- 11:39Speaker 5: and I'm like, Quinn Williams, lift the mic up and
- 11:42Speaker 5: DJ DK Metcalf lift the mic way up, and like
- 11:45Speaker 5: Kyler Murray put the mic Like I'm like, this guy
- 11:48Speaker 5: is little, I mean.
- 11:49Speaker 2: Little hands, little arms.
- 11:51Speaker 5: Yeah, but he's specially in his skill set and he
- 11:53Speaker 5: had They never made him switch positions, but a lot
- 11:55Speaker 5: of a lot of us they they were like, yeah,
- 11:57Speaker 5: I don't know if you're gonna go to Division one
- 11:59Speaker 5: and play what star.
- 12:00Speaker 2: Were you recruit? I was a four star recruit, And
- 12:02Speaker 2: what is life like as a four star recruit? It's
- 12:06Speaker 2: gotta be pretty Yeah, man, it was. I mean it's
- 12:07Speaker 2: gotta be good.
- 12:08Speaker 5: So I was really a three star coming out and
- 12:11Speaker 5: for most of it, and then I think the ranking guy,
- 12:16Speaker 5: Rivals ranking guy comes to check out one of my
- 12:18Speaker 5: games my senior year, and I was already committed to Rutgers,
- 12:21Speaker 5: so I like had twenty five scholars and.
- 12:23Speaker 2: Play safety or what. At the time, We're you going
- 12:24Speaker 2: to Rutgers to do? What though? I was going to
- 12:26Speaker 2: Rutgers to play corner.
- 12:26Speaker 5: Okay, I was a number one corner in the Stay
- 12:28Speaker 5: of New Jersey, and I was like one of the
- 12:30Speaker 5: better quarterbacks.
- 12:31Speaker 2: But I was a number one at that position, got it.
- 12:33Speaker 5: And I was a three star committed to Rutgers verbally
- 12:38Speaker 5: and all that stuff.
- 12:39Speaker 2: And then we play.
- 12:40Speaker 5: We play the opening game and he comes to see
- 12:43Speaker 5: our game play and I get a pick six, like
- 12:44Speaker 5: on the first possession of the game, and literally reverse engineering.
- 12:49Speaker 5: The coach told me, if you see the quarterback roll out,
- 12:53Speaker 5: you know it's going to be a hitch, a rout
- 12:55Speaker 5: in front of and a rout behind you. Just bait
- 12:56Speaker 5: the route behind you. And every time they roll out
- 12:58Speaker 5: there on the same play. So the first play the game,
- 13:00Speaker 5: the rollout, I see the route behind me, I act
- 13:02Speaker 5: like I'm going to go get the route behind me,
- 13:03Speaker 5: and I just bade him. He throws around in front
- 13:05Speaker 5: of me eighty yard pick six to start my senior year,
- 13:08Speaker 5: and that night I got a four star, right being
- 13:14Speaker 5: four star. So what happens Notre Dame calls me, Miami
- 13:17Speaker 5: calls me, Penn State.
- 13:17Speaker 2: Calls from that that one star. Oh, now he's this
- 13:21Speaker 2: level of.
- 13:22Speaker 5: Recruit and they're like, oh, you don't want to go
- 13:24Speaker 5: to Rutgers, come here, come.
- 13:25Speaker 3: There crazy that it wasn't some tape that it wasn't
- 13:28Speaker 3: like a library of tape on you that changed their mind.
- 13:31Speaker 3: It was literally a recruiting service. One guy who saw
- 13:33Speaker 3: one game, yeah and wow, and new colleges come. It's lazy.
- 13:36Speaker 3: Recruiting is lazy.
- 13:37Speaker 5: What happens is a lot of states out of state
- 13:40Speaker 5: teams like Alabama is not going to come to New
- 13:42Speaker 5: Jersey unless one you're offered by your New Jersey school.
- 13:46Speaker 2: So they're going to let Rutgers do the work.
- 13:47Speaker 5: Once Rutgers does the work, all the other big East
- 13:50Speaker 5: schools at the time, right it was West Virginia, it
- 13:53Speaker 5: was whatever. So they're like, Okay, this guy, obviously Rutgers
- 13:55Speaker 5: identified them. So now your conference is going to start
- 13:58Speaker 5: recruiting you, and they start offering you. And then once
- 14:00Speaker 5: your whole conference offers you, and then you get that
- 14:02Speaker 5: fourth star, then you become a national recruit. Now coaches
- 14:05Speaker 5: are jetting to your field, your high school and landing
- 14:08Speaker 5: on the thing and trying to and that's why you
- 14:10Speaker 5: see guys flip recruitment. So I mean, now they're getting paid,
- 14:12Speaker 5: but they flip recruitment so much because one thing changed.
- 14:16Speaker 5: Who came that was cool, I would say Greg Shianno,
- 14:20Speaker 5: when Rutgers recruited me, they put out all the stops.
- 14:23Speaker 5: He landed a helicopter on a local hospital and so
- 14:27Speaker 5: he flew a helicopter in to see me. I think
- 14:31Speaker 5: Iowa was super dope. Michigan State was cool. But Rutgers,
- 14:35Speaker 5: I mean they sent people to my grandmother's funeral. My
- 14:38Speaker 5: grandmother passed away. They had people at the funeral. They
- 14:40Speaker 5: were work, They had a Bible in front of my mom.
- 14:42Speaker 5: They won a whole different angle at my dad. I
- 14:44Speaker 5: mean they were they were pulling every stop like to
- 14:46Speaker 5: to get me to stay.
- 14:48Speaker 3: I feel like if I was on a jury or
- 14:49Speaker 3: if I was being recruited, I just flip all the time.
- 14:51Speaker 2: I mean like, oh, that's great, I'm here. Oh that's great.
- 14:54Speaker 2: Guilty Oh no, not guilty Michigan State.
- 14:56Speaker 3: I feel like I'll be doing that like crazy, because
- 14:59Speaker 3: I'm sure everybody's giving you their best effort.
- 15:00Speaker 2: They're showing you that.
- 15:02Speaker 3: Like you know, Chris Rock talks about dating somebody knew,
- 15:04Speaker 3: and he's like, you know, you don't really meet me,
- 15:05Speaker 3: you meet my representative when you you know, it's the
- 15:07Speaker 3: early version, but it's the best version of the school
- 15:09Speaker 3: in every way.
- 15:10Speaker 2: Like, aren't they all just awesome when you do that?
- 15:12Speaker 5: They they like really recruit your parents. I came from
- 15:15Speaker 5: a two parent background, super solid. My dad was a cop,
- 15:18Speaker 5: was a cop. My mom worked, like I said, a
- 15:20Speaker 5: nine to five. So they really had my parents on lock.
- 15:23Speaker 5: But looking back at I'm like, man, I should have
- 15:25Speaker 5: took that official visit to Hawaii. That's a great flight,
- 15:27Speaker 5: great trip. Should have went out there. Maybe I should
- 15:29Speaker 5: take that LV That would have been a fun little vagae.
- 15:31Speaker 3: What we should do on a on an official visit,
- 15:34Speaker 3: like you land? Yeah, just a brief discris, I have
- 15:37Speaker 3: no idea. You land, then, what what happens? Wh who's there?
- 15:39Speaker 3: What's the daylight.
- 15:41Speaker 5: So you land, you'll be red carpeted, black car picked up,
- 15:46Speaker 5: go to the school. All the coaches will be there, excited, balloons,
- 15:50Speaker 5: catered food.
- 15:51Speaker 2: And then New York.
- 15:53Speaker 5: Rutgers's whole pitch was, we're gonna send you to New York.
- 15:56Speaker 5: So you take the train. In New York, they runt
- 15:57Speaker 5: it out like a Dave and Busters and like Times Square.
- 16:00Speaker 5: So you're in Times Square, You're like, I gotta rent
- 16:02Speaker 5: it out, David Busters. You're playing games. They're talking like, yeah,
- 16:05Speaker 5: you're gonna like we have these mccordy twins and they're
- 16:07Speaker 5: all right, but you're gonna come in and you're gonna
- 16:10Speaker 5: play over them and like all this. But I knew
- 16:12Speaker 5: they were on their way out. I was gonna fill
- 16:13Speaker 5: in the next shows. But they're like, yeah, they're okay.
- 16:15Speaker 5: But Jason McCarty, this guy, I mean, he can't even
- 16:18Speaker 5: get an interception.
- 16:19Speaker 2: Look at me, you had six interceptions last year. We
- 16:22Speaker 2: need you, right, So they tell you what you want
- 16:24Speaker 2: to hear.
- 16:24Speaker 5: And then we got back on the train to Rutgers
- 16:27Speaker 5: and the coaches leave, and then you're paired with a player.
- 16:29Speaker 2: So I didn't have them mccordy twins had.
- 16:32Speaker 5: I had a kid that was actually on my little
- 16:33Speaker 5: league team that I told you about that we like
- 16:35Speaker 5: went undefeated or whatever. So I knew him since we
- 16:38Speaker 5: were kids. So he kind of hosted me, and that's
- 16:40Speaker 5: your host, and they gave me why they gave you
- 16:42Speaker 5: him right right, because we knew each other. So then
- 16:44Speaker 5: so then I got one of my best friends already
- 16:45Speaker 5: there and.
- 16:45Speaker 2: He's like whatever.
- 16:47Speaker 5: And then they gave your host like one hundred bucks
- 16:49Speaker 5: and he's supposed to take you to a party and
- 16:51Speaker 5: take you and he was like, look, man, I'm keeping
- 16:53Speaker 5: fifty of these bucks, like you got fifty you know.
- 16:56Speaker 5: So and then you know, they try to show you
- 16:58Speaker 5: girls and try to give you a good night and
- 17:01Speaker 5: then but the worst part is when you're when you're
- 17:06Speaker 5: a host, you have practice the next day. I'm like,
- 17:08Speaker 5: I'm not partying with this freaking sixteen year old kid,
- 17:10Speaker 5: seventeen year old kid all night and I gotta wake
- 17:12Speaker 5: up at seven am and run sprints, Like I kept
- 17:15Speaker 5: that hundred bucks.
- 17:15Speaker 2: I bet some people do, though, I bet they go
- 17:17Speaker 2: hard and then go to I mean it's just so yeah,
- 17:19Speaker 2: when you're younger, you can do it yeah, so you
- 17:21Speaker 2: when you get to Rutgers.
- 17:23Speaker 3: Is the speed of the game so much different going
- 17:26Speaker 3: high school to college or college to the pros? When
- 17:28Speaker 3: does it adjust so much that you're like, okay, hold on,
- 17:31Speaker 3: let me get you straight.
- 17:33Speaker 5: I think the speed of the game, because everyone comes
- 17:36Speaker 5: from different high school. You come from some country school
- 17:38Speaker 5: where I mean you got you know, eight on eight
- 17:41Speaker 5: football whatever in the middle of Nevada or something. But
- 17:44Speaker 5: I think the speed of the game is a bigger difference.
- 17:46Speaker 5: I think the coaching was a bigger difference for me
- 17:48Speaker 5: because Greg Seana was such a tough coach for me,
- 17:51Speaker 5: and I wasn't used to getting yelled at or just
- 17:52Speaker 5: like negativity shouting my way or getting cussed at, like
- 17:56Speaker 5: I wasn't used to.
- 17:56Speaker 2: I'm like, whoa, this is kind of hard environment for
- 17:58Speaker 2: me to thrive in.
- 17:59Speaker 5: So I think that was the biggest shock for me,
- 18:03Speaker 5: the speed and just the coaching because as soon as
- 18:05Speaker 5: you commit and day one practice stars, all that recruitings
- 18:08Speaker 5: out the window, like now I own it, and it
- 18:11Speaker 5: really felt like military. I feel like like a military academy.
- 18:13Speaker 5: It was that strict in discipline at Rutgers with him,
- 18:16Speaker 5: and you know, well, then I went to the NFL.
- 18:20Speaker 5: I came from that academy mindset, so like the discipline
- 18:23Speaker 5: was there, no one could do anything I haven't done already,
- 18:26Speaker 5: Like I've been through tougher workout. So now it's all
- 18:29Speaker 5: about execution and just skill, like we need you here
- 18:32Speaker 5: at your job to do it and use way more.
- 18:34Speaker 2: It's way more efficient.
- 18:35Speaker 3: The first time you go to a college practice and
- 18:38Speaker 3: it's actually full pads, what does that feel like?
- 18:40Speaker 2: Oh? I have so many stories, man.
- 18:44Speaker 5: The first college practice, so practice is is based on
- 18:49Speaker 5: what they call periods, and they blow the whistle in
- 18:51Speaker 5: a periods five minutes. So a practice could be I
- 18:54Speaker 5: don't want to stay and get butchered on math. But
- 18:56Speaker 5: a practice can be twenty periods you do the math,
- 18:58Speaker 5: or fifteen periods or twelve or twenty four whatever, two
- 19:01Speaker 5: hour practice whatever. Our first practice was thirty six periods.
- 19:05Speaker 5: It was like over three hours. It was in middle
- 19:08Speaker 5: of July in New Jersey. It was really hot and
- 19:10Speaker 5: human on the field. I had brand new cleats. When
- 19:13Speaker 5: I was getting blisters, they made everyone tape your ankles mandatory,
- 19:16Speaker 5: have to tape. I never taped my ankles before, so
- 19:18Speaker 5: my ankles were stiff, my cleat's hurt. And then Giano
- 19:21Speaker 5: had a rule you weren't allowed to take your helmet
- 19:23Speaker 5: off at any point in the practice, so I couldn't
- 19:25Speaker 5: even take my helmet off to get water. So I
- 19:27Speaker 5: had to like get water through my helmet. And I
- 19:30Speaker 5: just was so just equipment, uncomfortable, not used to practicing
- 19:33Speaker 5: that long. It just was all like all the little
- 19:35Speaker 5: things I guess that you're just supposed to ignore that
- 19:37Speaker 5: I got don't even bother me. Now they all bothered
- 19:40Speaker 5: me so much. Like at first, it was a huge adjustment.
- 19:43Speaker 3: When you're eighteen, you're hitting twenty two twenty three year
- 19:45Speaker 3: old dudes, I assume that's physically a lot more taxing
- 19:51Speaker 3: on you than seventeen hit and eighteen you know high
- 19:53Speaker 3: school like it's young.
- 19:55Speaker 2: It's an older kid versus men. Yeah, yeah, now it's
- 19:58Speaker 2: a big jump. It's hard.
- 20:00Speaker 5: If you see guys that come in to college, true
- 20:02Speaker 5: freshmen and dominate like that, that's tough because of physical aspect.
- 20:04Speaker 5: Like these guys in college you're lifting and running your
- 20:07Speaker 5: butt off like you are working. They're where you had
- 20:10Speaker 5: nothing else to do, their owning you. They work you.
- 20:12Speaker 5: So I came in one hundred and seventy five pounds.
- 20:15Speaker 5: I red shirted, so I was the number one corner
- 20:16Speaker 5: in the state, a four star going to Rutgers that
- 20:18Speaker 5: wasn't the greatest school in that recruited me. So I'm
- 20:21Speaker 5: supposed to come in and be a savior type of thing,
- 20:23Speaker 5: replace the mccordy twins. And I red shirted like I
- 20:26Speaker 5: got crushed by all expectation pressure. And I came in
- 20:29Speaker 5: one hundred and seventy five pounds, and I was one
- 20:31Speaker 5: hundred and ninety five pounds in less than a year.
- 20:34Speaker 5: I put on twenty pounds of muscle. I couldn't even
- 20:36Speaker 5: dunk a basketball anymore because you had put on some much,
- 20:39Speaker 5: so much weight. I wasn't even used to carrying that weight.
- 20:41Speaker 5: I'm one hundred and ninety four pounds at thirty two
- 20:43Speaker 5: years old. So in the last whatever fourteen to fifteen years,
- 20:47Speaker 5: I didn't gain one pounds, right, I just but I
- 20:50Speaker 5: put on twenty pounds in one year of muscle. I'm
- 20:52Speaker 5: squatting four hundred and fifty pounds. I'm power cleaning over
- 20:55Speaker 5: three hundred.
- 20:55Speaker 2: Pounds, and that's what they want.
- 20:56Speaker 3: Oh they were lifting? Yeah, And are your feelings at
- 20:59Speaker 3: the you have to red shirt? When did they tell
- 21:01Speaker 3: you that? Or is this something that that happens in
- 21:02Speaker 3: game three when you haven't played at all.
- 21:04Speaker 5: So I kind of like I had like a little
- 21:07Speaker 5: back injury and just had a rough start to it,
- 21:09Speaker 5: and it kind of was like, Hey, you're either gonna
- 21:11Speaker 5: play special teams this year or we can red shirt you.
- 21:14Speaker 2: So I was like, yeah, I'm like I'm not going
- 21:16Speaker 2: to waste a year just playing special team. So I
- 21:17Speaker 2: red shirted.
- 21:18Speaker 5: But he Giano used to red shirt like the entire
- 21:21Speaker 5: classes because he won an older team. So I think
- 21:24Speaker 5: out of our true freshman class we had twenty five commits,
- 21:28Speaker 5: twenty five guys on full rides and not counting walk ons,
- 21:30Speaker 5: I would say he probably played four or five guys
- 21:33Speaker 5: twenty of us red shirted. He just wanted to backload
- 21:36Speaker 5: the whole roster like that, right, So now a senior
- 21:38Speaker 5: class or fifth year seniors that are twenty two to
- 21:40Speaker 5: twenty three years old. So that just was like if
- 21:44Speaker 5: you weren't a super phenomenal right away, he was, you're
- 21:47Speaker 5: gonna red shirt?
- 21:48Speaker 2: What year did you leave college?
- 21:50Speaker 5: So I actually left as a red shirt junior, So
- 21:52Speaker 5: I left early. I got it together and I took off.
- 21:55Speaker 5: So I left.
- 21:55Speaker 2: So your red shirt year than your two years.
- 21:58Speaker 5: I red shirted, had a red shirt freshman sophomore, then
- 22:01Speaker 5: I left at the I almost left after a red
- 22:03Speaker 5: shirt sophomore year, but I left after my red shirt
- 22:05Speaker 5: junion got it.
- 22:05Speaker 2: It was my fourth year. So you go and you
- 22:08Speaker 2: I was reading some of your because it still exists,
- 22:11Speaker 2: the draft stuff or like this is his peak, this
- 22:13Speaker 2: is what we think his ceiling is. Did you ever
- 22:15Speaker 2: read that stuff back then too?
- 22:17Speaker 5: I don't, I mean I don't. I don't know what
- 22:18Speaker 5: they wrote about me, but I can probably could tell
- 22:20Speaker 5: you what it was.
- 22:21Speaker 2: But yeah, so, I.
- 22:24Speaker 3: Mean, so they would they do compare a certain player
- 22:27Speaker 3: compare they're like at his ceiling, not quite Palamalu, but
- 22:31Speaker 3: you know, and they're doing it.
- 22:33Speaker 2: So who did they compare you to? In college?
- 22:34Speaker 3: Just when you would talk to folks and they'd be like, oh,
- 22:36Speaker 3: we get to kind of see you being this type
- 22:38Speaker 3: of player in the NFL.
- 22:40Speaker 5: So I don't know if there was an exact like
- 22:42Speaker 5: ceiling comp that I knew in the NFL at the moment.
- 22:47Speaker 5: But my biggest thing is like I was super smart
- 22:50Speaker 5: and tough and productive, like I had some of the
- 22:53Speaker 5: most productive stats, like I was second in Biggie's history
- 22:56Speaker 5: in past breakups, ahead of Devin mccordy, behind to Roll
- 22:59Speaker 5: Reeves by like a couple.
- 23:01Speaker 3: And do you think that's because of your athletic ability
- 23:03Speaker 3: or because you your instincts?
- 23:06Speaker 2: Instincts and studying was so good instincts and studying.
- 23:09Speaker 5: Once I figured out the game, I would say half
- 23:12Speaker 5: the time now in the NFL, I played plays over
- 23:14Speaker 5: players like I don't care, like Julio is one of
- 23:18Speaker 5: my good friends.
- 23:19Speaker 2: I had to cover Julio in the Super Bowl. I
- 23:21Speaker 2: don't care Julio.
- 23:22Speaker 5: Julio only runs, like can only run ten routes, and
- 23:25Speaker 5: once I figure out what they are, it can only
- 23:27Speaker 5: be three. So I'm gona play these three routes right
- 23:29Speaker 5: based on situation and all that.
- 23:30Speaker 2: So I'm playing the plays.
- 23:31Speaker 5: So at the end of the day, the quarterbacks got
- 23:33Speaker 5: thrown to a spot if I could figure out that
- 23:34Speaker 5: spot before you figure out this, or you know, because
- 23:36Speaker 5: I don't know where you're going, I gotta do some mass.
- 23:38Speaker 5: So I always say I'm just playing high high stakes
- 23:41Speaker 5: blackjack out there.
- 23:42Speaker 3: Being such a cerebral guy, because again, that's the story
- 23:44Speaker 3: on you too, is that you were able to almost
- 23:47Speaker 3: predict chess moves before the chess move happened.
- 23:49Speaker 2: Do you ever think about coaching? Yeah, you know, I
- 23:51Speaker 2: get asked that a lot because I definitely have.
- 23:53Speaker 5: I have a memory where I almost remember every game
- 23:55Speaker 5: I playing in the plays, and then I think I
- 24:01Speaker 5: do a decent job of explaining it to the everyday person.
- 24:03Speaker 2: So that's why media is good in coaching.
- 24:05Speaker 5: I just don't like how many hours these coaches work,
- 24:09Speaker 5: Like it's very hard for a coach to have a
- 24:11Speaker 5: balance with any family life, Like they're home at midnight
- 24:15Speaker 5: all year round. I mean, it's it's it's a crazy
- 24:18Speaker 5: profession that doesn't have any balance work life balance.
- 24:20Speaker 2: So right now, not attractive to you. Would you go
- 24:22Speaker 2: coach college or NFL if you had to, I.
- 24:25Speaker 5: Would coach NFL or college because I don't want to
- 24:27Speaker 5: recruit on the road and you're off time at a
- 24:30Speaker 5: seventeen year old high school telling him he's going to
- 24:32Speaker 5: be better than Devin mccordy. You know, it's just like
- 24:35Speaker 5: I don't like doing that. I'm too real with kids.
- 24:38Speaker 5: I'm like, look, you're not good, but we'll take you
- 24:40Speaker 5: probably make you good, but you're not. You know, you
- 24:42Speaker 5: got to earn everything here.
- 24:44Speaker 3: You're deciding to go and you can leave Rutgers are
- 24:46Speaker 3: going to go to the NFL, and they kind of
- 24:48Speaker 3: have you pegged as you know, late second third round pick,
- 24:52Speaker 3: and do you kind of have an idea of what
- 24:55Speaker 3: team will take you in that resk, like four or
- 24:57Speaker 3: five teams or does everybody just act like they like
- 24:59Speaker 3: you until they got to make that decision.
- 25:01Speaker 5: Yeah, so I leave, I leave Rutgers. I get a
- 25:03Speaker 5: second They give you a draft grade if you want
- 25:05Speaker 5: to like leave early. They gave me a second round
- 25:06Speaker 5: draft grade. So it's all going me depending like all
- 25:08Speaker 5: my combine but I wasn't a combine free Who.
- 25:11Speaker 2: Gave you that grade? By the way, I don't know
- 25:14Speaker 2: you submitted to.
- 25:14Speaker 5: Some dudes who are sitting in a room, say you
- 25:17Speaker 5: go in the second round, and I think they have
- 25:19Speaker 5: to protect you because they want to keep kids in school,
- 25:21Speaker 5: So they give you a lower grade cause they don't
- 25:22Speaker 5: want kids coming out, right. They don't want to say
- 25:24Speaker 5: you're on the first round. If you come out and
- 25:26Speaker 5: then you slide a sixth round and I get really pissed.
- 25:28Speaker 5: So they gave me a second round grade based on production.
- 25:30Speaker 5: That's like, at worst, I'm going in the second round.
- 25:32Speaker 5: That's that's good money. So Rutgers is like, no, don't go,
- 25:36Speaker 5: You'll be a first round of next year. I'm like,
- 25:37Speaker 5: I'm going I go to the second round, all right.
- 25:40Speaker 5: I start training and I'm like one of those athletes
- 25:42Speaker 5: I like, I play. I can play baseball, I could
- 25:44Speaker 5: play ping pong like, I could play pickball, like I
- 25:46Speaker 5: can fish, I can play basketball. I'm like an all
- 25:49Speaker 5: like a ball athlete. I guess bowl, I can bowl
- 25:51Speaker 5: it over two hundred whatever. There's guys that could literally
- 25:55Speaker 5: not swing a baseball bat, but they can jump forty
- 25:56Speaker 5: four inches and stuff.
- 25:57Speaker 2: I'm not like that.
- 25:58Speaker 5: So I had very mediocre numbers combine, and obviously I
- 26:02Speaker 5: was a junior, so I didn't have the Senior Bowl
- 26:04Speaker 5: or all that stuff to have more opportunity to be seen.
- 26:05Speaker 5: So I kind of was like, oh, this guy just
- 26:07Speaker 5: kept every time I look, I just slipped. Someone did
- 26:09Speaker 5: something at something that I wasn't even at, and I slipped.
- 26:12Speaker 3: You weren't doing anything to slip, No, just because you
- 26:16Speaker 3: weren't able to do certain things.
- 26:17Speaker 5: Yeah, you leave as a junior. There is no Senior Bowl,
- 26:19Speaker 5: there is no so right, so I'm okay, I'm a junior.
- 26:22Speaker 5: All I have is the NFL Combine. As soon as
- 26:24Speaker 5: I ran a four or five, it was like, oh,
- 26:25Speaker 5: this guy ran who this guy out of nowhere who
- 26:28Speaker 5: has no numbers ran a four to three. Let's be
- 26:30Speaker 5: cause they're kind of sell a story at the Combine too, right,
- 26:32Speaker 5: They want the biggest athletic freaks there. So I kind
- 26:35Speaker 5: of slipped. I went to the third round, New England.
- 26:38Speaker 5: New England came to Rutgers, and Rutgers had a lot
- 26:42Speaker 5: of guys at the time coming out and Bill Belichick.
- 26:45Speaker 5: And this is actually another I got all these Belichick
- 26:47Speaker 5: stories that just keep coming out.
- 26:49Speaker 2: So when you're in college, there's local pro days.
- 26:53Speaker 5: So in New Jersey, right, like, the Jets and the
- 26:58Speaker 5: Giants can work out the local guys on their own day,
- 27:01Speaker 5: and guys from all those colleges in New Jersey can
- 27:03Speaker 5: go do a local pro day for the Jets and
- 27:05Speaker 5: the Giants. So Bill Belichick decides that he wants to
- 27:09Speaker 5: come do a visit with me on the day of
- 27:12Speaker 5: the Jets local Pro Day.
- 27:13Speaker 2: So I'm not going to work out for the Jets.
- 27:14Speaker 5: The Patriots are coming to work me out privately, and
- 27:18Speaker 5: I think only two or three teams worked me out privately.
- 27:20Speaker 5: Not only didn't invite Purpose for right, right, not only
- 27:22Speaker 5: did he invite me, he invited about sixteen Rutgers players,
- 27:25Speaker 5: so everybody. I mean, I think we had seven guys
- 27:27Speaker 5: get drafted that year. We led the draft with players Me, Deron, Harmon,
- 27:32Speaker 5: Steve Bahrnis, everybody that we had coming out. We had
- 27:37Speaker 5: like eight guys on defense, eight guys on offense. So
- 27:39Speaker 5: it was like a pretty much a Patriot Pro Day
- 27:41Speaker 5: the day that was supposed to be the Jets Pro day.
- 27:42Speaker 5: So Rex Ryan and Jets were pissed because none of
- 27:44Speaker 5: the Rutgers players went to their pro day. They had
- 27:46Speaker 5: like Mamath players go and it was like, well, Bill
- 27:49Speaker 5: came in and said to do this. So I remember
- 27:52Speaker 5: I did the thing with Bill. But I called Devon
- 27:56Speaker 5: because Devon's one of my good friends and he was
- 27:58Speaker 5: on the Patriots already, was their captains. So I said,
- 28:00Speaker 5: I need all your drills, give me all your warm
- 28:02Speaker 5: up drills, give me all your dB drills. What do
- 28:04Speaker 5: you guys do in a workout? So Devin sent me
- 28:06Speaker 5: all their drills, and I've been practicing with the guys
- 28:08Speaker 5: for a week because we knew what day this was coming.
- 28:11Speaker 5: So our entire secondary was practicing these drills for a week.
- 28:15Speaker 5: So when they come in, we crushed the workout. Then
- 28:17Speaker 5: we go to the film room and I'm like, oh,
- 28:19Speaker 5: this is what I do. I'm turning what the nose
- 28:21Speaker 5: guard does? I'm turning with all eleven players doing every defense.
- 28:24Speaker 5: So I knew I impressed Bill and then he ends
- 28:27Speaker 5: up drafting me in the third round. Deron Harmon, who
- 28:29Speaker 5: was our free safety in the third round as well,
- 28:31Speaker 5: So we drafted four guys on Rutgers defense alone in
- 28:33Speaker 5: that draft. But I had the drills from Devin a
- 28:37Speaker 5: week prior and we were practicing for this workout.
- 28:38Speaker 3: What's it like as a rookie going into the locker
- 28:40Speaker 3: room of the NFL where you got thirty five year
- 28:43Speaker 3: old men in there as well?
- 28:44Speaker 2: Crazy?
- 28:45Speaker 5: It was again, that's another adjustment again, and I just
- 28:49Speaker 5: think you got to earn them with your play and
- 28:50Speaker 5: just being a good rookie. I was singing songs, I
- 28:52Speaker 5: was telling jokes. I remember I was playing really well
- 28:55Speaker 5: in the preseason. I actually had to pick six against
- 28:57Speaker 5: the Bucks who Shianna wants to be that coach. So
- 28:59Speaker 5: I kind of got back with the pick six in
- 29:01Speaker 5: the preseason and because he didn't draft me in the
- 29:04Speaker 5: second round, so I'm like, oh, coach that passing on me.
- 29:07Speaker 2: Dan, I had it hurt a little bit, like taking
- 29:09Speaker 2: that personal.
- 29:10Speaker 5: Yeah, it was a little personal at the time. So
- 29:12Speaker 5: I was like, Okay, don't draft me.
- 29:13Speaker 2: That's fine. See what I do.
- 29:14Speaker 5: So I uh, he actually drafted another corner as well,
- 29:18Speaker 5: so I end up doing that.
- 29:21Speaker 2: So I'm playing well.
- 29:21Speaker 5: So I'm like kind of playing with the starters, like
- 29:23Speaker 5: when the season is about to start, like kind of
- 29:25Speaker 5: like in there. Very different than started my college career.
- 29:28Speaker 5: And I remember a keep to leeve was like and
- 29:31Speaker 5: I think there's no more intimidating veteran you can have
- 29:33Speaker 5: than a keep to leave as a rookie, and a
- 29:36Speaker 5: key was like, yo, rookie, you gotta get his chicken
- 29:38Speaker 5: wings before we go on away games. On the flight,
- 29:41Speaker 5: I'm like, well, I'm not getting no chicken wings. I'm
- 29:43Speaker 5: like one of the starters, like get the other rookies
- 29:45Speaker 5: a day. And he was like he looked at me,
- 29:46Speaker 5: He's like, you're getting those chicken wings, and I just
- 29:49Speaker 5: was like, I'm getting those chickens.
- 29:52Speaker 2: So I ended up getting chicken wings before every road game.
- 29:55Speaker 5: I had to go to Skipjacks across the street a
- 29:58Speaker 5: Patriot place and get like three hundred chicken wings and in.
- 30:02Speaker 2: A suit and bring buffalo wings in a suit.
- 30:06Speaker 5: Uh and not get any sauce on me and get
- 30:09Speaker 5: pictured in the plane.
- 30:10Speaker 2: So every like pregame picture of me in the plane.
- 30:11Speaker 5: I had like big old bag of chicken wings for
- 30:13Speaker 5: the entire secondary or whatever. And I did that for
- 30:16Speaker 5: I did that for an entire year and I and
- 30:18Speaker 5: I ended up starting most of that year leaning the
- 30:21Speaker 5: team leaning the AFC and it I had five interceptions
- 30:23Speaker 5: as a rookie.
- 30:23Speaker 2: He's still getting wings even though you got fired.
- 30:25Speaker 5: Started at AFC Championship. Starting AFC Championship, had more picks than.
- 30:30Speaker 2: To leave that year.
- 30:31Speaker 5: And uh yeah, I was getting chicken wings up to
- 30:33Speaker 5: the AFC Championship. And I remember we were flying to
- 30:35Speaker 5: the AFC Championship and Bill was like, let the players
- 30:39Speaker 5: sit first class and some other organizations when you fly,
- 30:42Speaker 5: the coaches sit first class and the players in the
- 30:44Speaker 5: bat and I pisses the players off. But Bill's like, nah,
- 30:46Speaker 5: the players, they run the show like they're in the
- 30:47Speaker 5: first class, but there's only so many seats, so he
- 30:50Speaker 5: doesn't do it on some yard he doesn't know who's playing.
- 30:52Speaker 5: So I remember I was, I got like a first
- 30:54Speaker 5: class seat, and I'm like, yeah, like okay, I made it.
- 30:57Speaker 2: And they had some guys there are.
- 30:58Speaker 5: Ten year vets in a cop me pissed, but I'm like, hey,
- 31:01Speaker 5: like I'm playing better, Bill rewards who's playing better?
- 31:04Speaker 3: Who gets respect? Somebody who plays well or somebody's got
- 31:06Speaker 3: a big deal.
- 31:09Speaker 5: Who I always say play well because even when I
- 31:12Speaker 5: signed some big deals, I signed two thirty million dollar
- 31:14Speaker 5: contracts in my career, and I just I always felt
- 31:18Speaker 5: like I got to show to the guys like I'm
- 31:20Speaker 5: worth it, because nothing's worse than a guy who gets
- 31:22Speaker 5: paid and doesn't work.
- 31:23Speaker 2: And you're like, this is a guy we're paying.
- 31:25Speaker 5: Like you're Do you see that in locker rooms? Oh yeah,
- 31:27Speaker 5: that's a lot of teams issues. They play guys they
- 31:30Speaker 5: don't know their character. The money changes the guys, and
- 31:33Speaker 5: now you have a big issue because not only is
- 31:35Speaker 5: your paid player supposed to be your best player and
- 31:37Speaker 5: hopefully your hardest worker, like Tom Brady is and these
- 31:39Speaker 5: guys are he's your least hardest worker and he's not
- 31:42Speaker 5: even playing up to his own potentials. That really hurts
- 31:44Speaker 5: your team. So you got to pay. You got to
- 31:46Speaker 5: make sure that you reward the right guys. I'm a
- 31:49Speaker 5: big booster.
- 31:50Speaker 3: I do NILS with players, big Arkansas guy, And I
- 31:53Speaker 3: think one of the things that I've been able to
- 31:56Speaker 3: observe is that some of these guys grew up like
- 31:58Speaker 3: I did, no money, broke, but this is this is
- 32:00Speaker 3: their first time to get some money in college, and
- 32:02Speaker 3: it actually prepares them from when they get more money
- 32:06Speaker 3: in the NFL. So it's not just straight culture shot
- 32:09Speaker 3: going from nothing to everything. I feel like that's a
- 32:12Speaker 3: real positive of the NIL is there's an adjustment period
- 32:16Speaker 3: before you hit it real big.
- 32:17Speaker 2: Your thoughts on that.
- 32:18Speaker 5: I love that, I love that IL. It's I mean,
- 32:21Speaker 5: I just like that the players are getting a piece
- 32:23Speaker 5: of the pie. And I know it's kind of crazy
- 32:24Speaker 5: to regulate, and I know a lot of players are
- 32:27Speaker 5: making a lot of money at a young age, but
- 32:29Speaker 5: I think what it also does. I think it can
- 32:32Speaker 5: expose the family that's been waiting to do it. Anyway,
- 32:35Speaker 5: So you might you know, when you've got a million
- 32:38Speaker 5: dollars at twenty one, you got some uncles that have
- 32:40Speaker 5: been waiting in the weeds. You know that now if
- 32:42Speaker 5: you don't give them something now, now they're mad at you.
- 32:45Speaker 5: So maybe it exposes a little the family dynamic or
- 32:48Speaker 5: the support dynamic a little earlier. So these kids be like, oh, okay,
- 32:50Speaker 5: I really see who's got my back and not? You
- 32:53Speaker 5: know so, I think a lot of guys' stresses is
- 32:56Speaker 5: dealing with family and how to hint, like you can't
- 32:58Speaker 5: help everybody and where where where? Who do you owe
- 33:01Speaker 5: what to? And what? Your aunt struggling, so you got
- 33:03Speaker 5: to pay for her, and so and so had a hospital.
- 33:04Speaker 5: Bality got to pay for that. And your mom needs this,
- 33:07Speaker 5: and your dad needs that, and you're oh, by your
- 33:08Speaker 5: brother's always been there with you, so he needs this.
- 33:10Speaker 5: And then eventually it's like you tell them no one
- 33:13Speaker 5: time and then they get mad at you. You know, so
- 33:15Speaker 5: you definitely need to work on that dynamic.
- 33:17Speaker 3: Did they work with you guys on money when you
- 33:19Speaker 3: go in like that, because I know in the NBA
- 33:21Speaker 3: they do these these class.
- 33:22Speaker 5: They Yeah, we have a we have a we have
- 33:26Speaker 5: like a Rookie Symposium.
- 33:28Speaker 2: You know, but it's just it's generic.
- 33:30Speaker 5: You know, it's not like a class, it's a it's
- 33:33Speaker 5: a one day, you know, four hour presentation. You watched
- 33:37Speaker 5: the documentary about Going Broke, which was that he hit
- 33:39Speaker 5: at thirty for thirty, which was crazy, and see Antoine
- 33:42Speaker 5: Jamison then buying apartment complexes and JaMarcus Russell like buying
- 33:46Speaker 5: an entire plane every seat.
- 33:47Speaker 2: You know.
- 33:47Speaker 5: I'm like, I wouldn't do that, But I don't know
- 33:50Speaker 5: if that teaches you actually like what taxes are and
- 33:53Speaker 5: like how to p Yeah, like I don't think guys
- 33:57Speaker 5: like every draft pick is buying her mom a house
- 33:59Speaker 5: and somebody a car.
- 33:59Speaker 2: The first day.
- 34:00Speaker 5: It's like, dude, you're making like maybe eight hundred thousand
- 34:04Speaker 5: dollars this year after taxes, that's like five hundred. Now
- 34:08Speaker 5: you bought a car and a house, Like, how are
- 34:10Speaker 5: you even going to pay for your own rent? Like
- 34:12Speaker 5: there's not enough money to do that in day one.
- 34:15Speaker 3: Which I you know, for Nils again, I think it's
- 34:17Speaker 3: great when you somebody make a few hundred thousand bucks
- 34:19Speaker 3: because then when they make a million, they know half
- 34:20Speaker 3: of it where it's going anyway.
- 34:21Speaker 2: Yeah, you know.
- 34:22Speaker 3: Yeah, So when you get to the NFL and you're
- 34:25Speaker 3: playing with the Patriots and you're playing, well, I mean,
- 34:27Speaker 3: you got the greatest player of all time Tom Brady there.
- 34:32Speaker 3: I mean, does he just walk around and everybody just
- 34:34Speaker 3: it's instant respect or is he one of the guys.
- 34:38Speaker 5: He's he's one of the guys as much as he
- 34:40Speaker 5: could be. And he's just he's different. He was older
- 34:42Speaker 5: than you know, older than a lot of us and
- 34:43Speaker 5: all that stuff, but he is the most one of
- 34:45Speaker 5: the most huge, like humble people for high star power.
- 34:50Speaker 2: Like like, does he try to be involved with folks.
- 34:52Speaker 5: Yeah, he's very authentic, He's very genuine. He's very engaging, engaging.
- 34:55Speaker 5: I think his EQ is what got him so many
- 34:57Speaker 5: Super Bowls. He really knows how to how to how
- 35:01Speaker 5: to tap in with his teammates and get the best
- 35:03Speaker 5: out of his teammate's. Like sometimes you hear how Kobe
- 35:05Speaker 5: didn't always rub right with his teammates, or Jordan didn't
- 35:07Speaker 5: always rub right with his teammates or whatever. I think
- 35:10Speaker 5: Tom has that same competitive passion and he knows when
- 35:13Speaker 5: to do that, but he also knows when to love
- 35:14Speaker 5: up on his teammates and maybe a little more Lebron esque.
- 35:18Speaker 5: I don't know, but I think that like Tom has
- 35:20Speaker 5: mastered I think that's a difference with him in a
- 35:22Speaker 5: lot of these other quarterbacks. That's why he has seven
- 35:23Speaker 5: and these other guys have one or two. Is how
- 35:26Speaker 5: much like I'll tell quickly, like this story I've told
- 35:29Speaker 5: a couple of times my first time ever meeting him.
- 35:31Speaker 5: So I get drafted by the Patriots. I'm walking in
- 35:33Speaker 5: the hall. I kind of like see him like down
- 35:35Speaker 5: the home, like, oh shit, I'm going to run into
- 35:37Speaker 5: this guy. Like do I call him Tom Thomas, mister Brady?
- 35:40Speaker 5: Like I had this guy's jersey growing up, right, So
- 35:42Speaker 5: I'm like like clearing my throat and as I walk
- 35:45Speaker 5: up to him outside of normal conversation range, like you know,
- 35:49Speaker 5: you have like maybe a second to get ready for
- 35:51Speaker 5: this conversation.
- 35:52Speaker 2: He's like, oh, hey, you're Logan right.
- 35:55Speaker 5: We're drafting a third round out of Ruckers And he's like, man,
- 35:57Speaker 5: look I'm Tom quarterback here, Like if you need anything,
- 36:02Speaker 5: my lockers are here. I'm always here early anything you need, like,
- 36:05Speaker 5: just come to me and I'll do the best I can.
- 36:07Speaker 5: He's like, trust me, I was a rookie it's hard.
- 36:10Speaker 5: Just put your head down and keep working. And I
- 36:12Speaker 5: just thought that was so cool. Not only did he
- 36:14Speaker 5: take the awkward interaction out of me, but he made
- 36:16Speaker 5: me feel he knew who I was, he knew where
- 36:18Speaker 5: I was, school I came from. He made me feel important,
- 36:21Speaker 5: and he said he was an open book for me.
- 36:23Speaker 5: And when you're just the third round rookie out of
- 36:26Speaker 5: Rutgers who's probably the fifty third best player on the team,
- 36:30Speaker 5: I was like, dang, that's really cool. And I was like, yo,
- 36:32Speaker 5: I want to be like that veteran one day. I
- 36:34Speaker 5: might not be Tom Brady, but I want to be
- 36:35Speaker 5: that guy that's not hazing and not like making it
- 36:38Speaker 5: so hard. We need these guys, and I think Tom
- 36:40Speaker 5: knows that he's going to need every one of his teammates.
- 36:42Speaker 3: We only got a few minutes left too with you.
- 36:44Speaker 3: But a couple questions. What if you said, hey, Tom,
- 36:46Speaker 3: will you sign this? Well, that football, anything, It could
- 36:50Speaker 3: be anything. You're like, Tom, Hey, thanks man, were you signed?
- 36:52Speaker 4: Like?
- 36:52Speaker 2: Is that allowed on the locker room?
- 36:53Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 36:53Speaker 2: I got him, you didn't see. I got him to
- 36:55Speaker 2: sign his last I picked off his last. But that's
- 36:57Speaker 2: the end. That's you already were established.
- 36:59Speaker 3: Oh early, Yeah, it's crazy.
- 37:03Speaker 5: Yeah, I think I think you got to just draw
- 37:05Speaker 5: the line there because everyone would do it so certain
- 37:08Speaker 5: guys when you're established. I think he does it, and
- 37:11Speaker 5: charity he'll do it, but like just he would be
- 37:13Speaker 5: there all day.
- 37:14Speaker 3: Like you know, You're that went viral when you had
- 37:16Speaker 3: him sign the ball after you. And do you think
- 37:19Speaker 3: part of that situation you approached that because you already
- 37:23Speaker 3: knew him and played with him.
- 37:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I knew him.
- 37:25Speaker 5: We kind of grown together, our relationship of respect, and
- 37:29Speaker 5: I didn't know how much longer he was going to play.
- 37:31Speaker 5: I was going to play whatever, So I kind of
- 37:33Speaker 5: just snuck a bunch of stuff from the sign for
- 37:35Speaker 5: family finally over these years, and then I kind of
- 37:38Speaker 5: snuck the.
- 37:39Speaker 2: Football in there too. You still have the ball? I
- 37:41Speaker 2: do have the ball? Yeah, what could you get for? You? Think?
- 37:45Speaker 5: That's what I want to know? I mean, let me
- 37:46Speaker 5: know who's who's listening. I want to over have five
- 37:49Speaker 5: hundred thousand.
- 37:50Speaker 2: How do you still train?
- 37:51Speaker 3: I get two questions, like how do you still trained
- 37:52Speaker 3: with the intensity that you need to train with when
- 37:54Speaker 3: you're waiting on that call instead of knowing who that
- 37:58Speaker 3: call is going to be from I did.
- 38:00Speaker 2: This during COVID. I was a free agent for a
- 38:02Speaker 2: long time. I left Tennessee.
- 38:03Speaker 5: I didn't sign with the New York Giants till week
- 38:05Speaker 5: one of the season, so I was all the way
- 38:07Speaker 5: through training camp and I got in there and I
- 38:09Speaker 5: ended up leading the team and snaps, play eating tackles
- 38:11Speaker 5: on stuff. So I've been through this. I think it's
- 38:14Speaker 5: just it's discipline. I get up and get it done, period,
- 38:17Speaker 5: doesn't matter who I'm playing for.
- 38:18Speaker 2: I get up.
- 38:18Speaker 5: I know, I know the work and what I need
- 38:20Speaker 5: to do at this point in my career, and I
- 38:21Speaker 5: get up and just get it done.
- 38:22Speaker 3: You want to come here? I know some people here?
- 38:24Speaker 3: Mean you want to come here? What the Titans?
- 38:25Speaker 2: I'm just saying, we want to come here? I know
- 38:27Speaker 2: some people here.
- 38:28Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 38:29Speaker 2: Like where you want to go? Where do you see
- 38:30Speaker 2: yourself fitting?
- 38:31Speaker 4: Well?
- 38:31Speaker 2: Who needs you?
- 38:32Speaker 4: Man?
- 38:32Speaker 5: I would love to be in Tampa because my family's there,
- 38:34Speaker 5: you know. But if that's not the case, then I
- 38:38Speaker 5: obviously want to play for a good organization that could tender,
- 38:42Speaker 5: that can get a guy to plug in and play
- 38:44Speaker 5: and win championships.
- 38:45Speaker 2: See, yeah, we'll see what the record is during during
- 38:48Speaker 2: the year, he.
- 38:50Speaker 1: Wants to play for the Cowboys PSI Eddie question for Logan. Yeah, Logan,
- 38:54Speaker 1: So like, growing up, who did you want to play for?
- 38:58Speaker 1: Because I got four kids, three of them are pretty
- 39:00Speaker 1: decent at sports, so I fought them all jerseys, like
- 39:03Speaker 1: so they can take baby pictures with so the announcer
- 39:06Speaker 1: can be like he's always been a forty nine from there,
- 39:10Speaker 1: you know, So who did you want to play?
- 39:12Speaker 2: Crazy?
- 39:12Speaker 5: I kept this hitting. I was a New York Giant
- 39:13Speaker 5: and I literally kept this hitting. But I grew up
- 39:15Speaker 5: a diehard Philly fan because I'm from South Jersey and
- 39:18Speaker 5: there's like no choice, a right, there's Cowboys fans there.
- 39:20Speaker 5: They get like beat up daily fights. It's real rivalries
- 39:24Speaker 5: up there.
- 39:25Speaker 2: So I was. I was an Eagles fan growing up.
- 39:27Speaker 5: I grew up watching McNab years and and all those years,
- 39:30Speaker 5: Brian Dawkins and all that, so I was big. So
- 39:32Speaker 5: when the Phillies won the World Series in eighth nine
- 39:35Speaker 5: or whatever, like our teachers didn't show up to school,
- 39:37Speaker 5: like there was no school.
- 39:38Speaker 2: Everyone's at the parade. It's like that type of town.
- 39:40Speaker 2: They were climbing the pole. Yeah, oh yeah, it's serious.
- 39:44Speaker 2: I'm a big animal guy. Tell me about Ryan's monthly
- 39:47Speaker 2: rescue and your goal and what you've been able to
- 39:50Speaker 2: do so far.
- 39:51Speaker 5: Man, we were able to raise hundreds of thousands of
- 39:53Speaker 5: dollars for animals throughout the years. I just love I
- 39:56Speaker 5: was waiting, I was looking for my calls, and I
- 39:58Speaker 5: love shelter animals. I have rescue dogs, my daughter foster's kittens.
- 40:02Speaker 5: So we started a big animal foundation to raise money,
- 40:05Speaker 5: awareness and just be a different face in that industry.
- 40:08Speaker 5: You don't see young black guys like loving on pitbulls.
- 40:10Speaker 5: You see a different type of stereotype. You don't see
- 40:12Speaker 5: guys with kittens and stuff like that. So I've done
- 40:16Speaker 5: a lot with Naturally Humane out here when I was
- 40:19Speaker 5: still currently and we're just trying to promote adoption and
- 40:22Speaker 5: give out grants and stuff for people that are, you know,
- 40:25Speaker 5: struggling with animals and animals need help.
- 40:26Speaker 2: So I'm just an animal lover.
- 40:28Speaker 3: At r ARF dot com, which is r a r
- 40:32Speaker 3: F and you find them on Facebook search for the
- 40:34Speaker 3: Ryan Animal Rescue Foundation. We talked about a little bit
- 40:37Speaker 3: before you got in here, but I really appreciate the time, man.
- 40:39Speaker 2: I could do this for three hours.
- 40:41Speaker 3: So yeah, I hope you get picked up by a contender.
- 40:45Speaker 3: I hope you still find your fulfillment for plant sports
- 40:48Speaker 3: the next couple of years.
- 40:49Speaker 2: Whatever makes you feel like you still got it.
- 40:50Speaker 3: If you still got it, I hope you get But
- 40:51Speaker 3: then when you're done, dude, you're gonna kill it in
- 40:53Speaker 3: this space.
- 40:54Speaker 5: Yeah, man, I got peace. I'm proud of what I've done.
- 40:56Speaker 5: So I'm just honestly, it's a financial decision at this point.
- 40:58Speaker 5: I thankfully I had good team and support it where
- 41:02Speaker 5: financially I made good decisions where I don't have to
- 41:04Speaker 5: do that anymore. And my body is important to me.
- 41:06Speaker 5: My time with my family's important to me. So I'm
- 41:08Speaker 5: in the one making decisions now and waiting for the
- 41:11Speaker 5: right opportunity with the right team. If that doesn't happen
- 41:13Speaker 5: and we can do this more often, that's cool too.
- 41:15Speaker 5: You know, I'm enjoying it. Yeah, pig Sue, man, I
- 41:17Speaker 5: played Arkansas in college.
- 41:19Speaker 2: You played against them? Yeah, we beat them. Two picks
- 41:24Speaker 2: you had.
- 41:26Speaker 3: That's how we cut Oh I did Okay, we whispered
- 41:29Speaker 3: the one guy called back. I heard, yeah, probably get
- 41:32Speaker 3: what was it like a clip or something. That's how
- 41:33Speaker 3: you got it in the first place.
- 41:34Speaker 2: I don't know what. Yeah, something I didn't do somebody
- 41:36Speaker 2: else else. Follow Logan on Instagram at Logan Ryan appreciate
- 41:41Speaker 2: you guys are awesome.
- 41:42Speaker 5: Man.
- 41:42Speaker 2: It was a big deal to be here, so I
- 41:43Speaker 2: appreciate the opportunity. Man.
- 41:45Speaker 3: That's crazy, all right, Logan Ryan Everybody. Twenty five Whistles

- 42:01Speaker 3: a lot of games happening at the same time, a
- 42:02Speaker 3: lot of gambler that I feel like I'm pretty good
- 42:05Speaker 3: at ball season. I do feel pretty good. Yeah, yeah,
- 42:07Speaker 3: So I parlays. I'll bet multiple games at once and
- 42:10Speaker 3: if they all win, I win. If one of the
- 42:12Speaker 3: three or four loses, then you lose, but you get
- 42:14Speaker 3: better odds you can hit them all. We love parlays.
- 42:15Speaker 3: We haven't been so successful this year though, I'm being honest,
- 42:17Speaker 3: No we haven't. But that's the deal. New users use

- 42:37Speaker 3: another interview with Penn States legendary linebacker LaVar Arrington. He
- 42:41Speaker 3: was the second overall pick in two thousand, a three
- 42:44Speaker 3: time Pro bowler, a two time All Pro linebacker in
- 42:46Speaker 3: the NFL, where he played with Washington with the old Redskins.
- 42:50Speaker 2: Yeah, the Redskins, the Redskins and the Giants.
- 42:53Speaker 3: Is the show on Fox Sports Radio called Two Pros
- 42:55Speaker 3: and a Cup of Joe, which you can listen two
- 42:57Speaker 3: weekday mornings or check out the podcast.
- 42:58Speaker 2: Here is LeVar Arrington. We're here with LaVar Arrington.
- 43:02Speaker 3: So, being a former linebacker, were there ever such obvious
- 43:06Speaker 3: tells by watching tape that you knew even before the
- 43:09Speaker 3: play started because they didn't self scout themselves And you're like, oh,
- 43:14Speaker 3: for sure, I know this play I've seen at seventy
- 43:15Speaker 3: Was it ever that easy where you just go, well,
- 43:17Speaker 3: he's lined up here and this direction go get it.
- 43:21Speaker 4: Have you ever watched my college highlights.
- 43:23Speaker 2: At Penn Stay.
- 43:23Speaker 3: I've seen like a YouTube greatest hits, but that doesn't
- 43:26Speaker 3: count because.
- 43:27Speaker 2: It's like you were.
- 43:28Speaker 3: You were a man amongst boys that look like they're
- 43:30Speaker 3: more so than you're predicting plays.
- 43:32Speaker 4: That's that's that's that's film study. That's film study.
- 43:35Speaker 6: When you're when you're leaping over lines and hurdling, you know,
- 43:40Speaker 6: guys that are trying to block you, that's because you've
- 43:43Speaker 6: studied them so much and you found that tendency and
- 43:46Speaker 6: you've locked in on a tendency. If a guy drops
- 43:49Speaker 6: his head his shoulders following, that means he's trying to
- 43:52Speaker 6: chop block you. So you could leap frauding. You know,
- 43:54Speaker 6: you make yourself look really good on stuff that you
- 43:56Speaker 6: do and look look real cool on the film and
- 43:59Speaker 6: the footage that go to like all of the sports outlets,
- 44:02Speaker 6: you know what I mean, Bobby. So yet, you absolutely
- 44:06Speaker 6: can study not only what the team's personality is as
- 44:10Speaker 6: to what they do and downs and distances, but you
- 44:12Speaker 6: can also study the players themselves specifically in terms of
- 44:17Speaker 6: what it is that they're going to do. So absolutely
- 44:20Speaker 6: that's and that's both sides. You got a self scout
- 44:23Speaker 6: defensively by position, you got to do it offensively as well.
- 44:27Speaker 2: You were drafted second overall on year two thousand. How
- 44:29Speaker 2: long until special, Matt? Yeah, special, it's very it's very coo.
- 44:34Speaker 2: How long till you?
- 44:35Speaker 4: That's what I got.
- 44:35Speaker 6: That's that's why I got that nice little, uh, you know,
- 44:38Speaker 6: stairwell casing right there?
- 44:39Speaker 4: You see that?
- 44:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I felt that. You know, you got a lot
- 44:42Speaker 2: of money when you got a casing on a stairwell,
- 44:43Speaker 2: not just a rail. You know, you like a design
- 44:47Speaker 2: like that. How long until you get a paycheck?
- 44:50Speaker 3: What you mean when you get drafted like here, he
- 44:52Speaker 3: is the number two overall pick at the time.
- 44:54Speaker 4: You gotta sign. Well, see that's the thing. You gotta
- 44:57Speaker 4: be signed.
- 44:58Speaker 6: So you're drafted and they said that they are taking you,
- 45:01Speaker 6: but you still got to get a contract done. When
- 45:04Speaker 6: you go number one, you go number two, you can
- 45:06Speaker 6: get started on that process immediately. That could actually happen
- 45:09Speaker 6: before they even call your name. Sometimes it drags out
- 45:13Speaker 6: and they call guys holdouts, but you really, in theory
- 45:16Speaker 6: and by definition, you can't really be a holdout because
- 45:18Speaker 6: you haven't been officially hired, right, You got to sign
- 45:21Speaker 6: the paperwork. You guys got to agree to the deal,
- 45:24Speaker 6: and now you've become an employee of the team. So
- 45:26Speaker 6: sometimes it gets done quick, sometimes it doesn't. I mean,
- 45:29Speaker 6: now with the slotting of contracts coming into the league,
- 45:35Speaker 6: it's pretty easy, like you're not going to have guys
- 45:38Speaker 6: holding out. There's like a few things that you have
- 45:42Speaker 6: to talk through in terms of guarantees and options and
- 45:45Speaker 6: stuff like that, but pretty much the contract is pretty
- 45:48Speaker 6: much the contract for rookies coming into the draft, which
- 45:51Speaker 6: it was a little different in two thousand when.
- 45:53Speaker 4: I came in.
- 45:53Speaker 6: We actually negotiated a deal and you could actually get
- 45:57Speaker 6: a really really favorable and big deal before having ever
- 46:01Speaker 6: played a down of football in the league. So it
- 46:04Speaker 6: depends you could get it as early as the night
- 46:07Speaker 6: before the draft, before they call your name.
- 46:09Speaker 4: If you're the number one guy.
- 46:11Speaker 6: You could have your deal done before you they even
- 46:13Speaker 6: call your name, or it could go well into camp
- 46:17Speaker 6: before you get a deal done.
- 46:18Speaker 2: But how long until you felt like you were rich?
- 46:20Speaker 4: I was never poor though, yeah, but rich.
- 46:23Speaker 3: And poor and not poor two different things. You don't
- 46:25Speaker 3: you don't get a casing like that.
- 46:27Speaker 6: Wealthy I'll say ahead, when did I feel wealthy. Probably,
- 46:33Speaker 6: I don't know. I don't think I've ever felt wealthy.
- 46:36Speaker 6: I don't think i've ever first first.
- 46:39Speaker 2: Time that check hits, I'm feeling pretty good, you're.
- 46:42Speaker 4: Feeling I felt.
- 46:43Speaker 6: I felt good, you know, I'll tell you I probably
- 46:46Speaker 6: only looked at three or four texts.
- 46:49Speaker 4: In my entire career.
- 46:50Speaker 6: Man, Like, I just I made sure my money was
- 46:54Speaker 6: was in in the proper places, but I just never was.
- 46:58Speaker 4: It never was big to me to obsess over it,
- 47:02Speaker 4: you know.
- 47:02Speaker 6: I felt like, you did it for so long to
- 47:05Speaker 6: get to where you can make that that type of
- 47:08Speaker 6: you know, that type of wage doing what it is
- 47:10Speaker 6: that you love to do. So once I made it,
- 47:13Speaker 6: I kind of felt like if I got too deep
- 47:15Speaker 6: into that aspect.
- 47:16Speaker 4: Of it, I might lose the essence of who I was.
- 47:19Speaker 6: So I still stayed hungry, like I had never even
- 47:21Speaker 6: accomplished or achieved anything, you know, to begin with. I mean,
- 47:25Speaker 6: I did walk into a Ferrari dealership with with a
- 47:27Speaker 6: pair of like raggedy shorts on and and a torn
- 47:30Speaker 6: up practice T shirt and some flip flops and mess
- 47:35Speaker 6: around with a salesperson, and they wanted to kick me
- 47:38Speaker 6: out and have me remove from the premises, and and
- 47:41Speaker 6: I did end up buying a three sixty Medina right
- 47:44Speaker 6: there on the spot from from the actual another salesperson
- 47:49Speaker 6: who came out and was actually very cordial and kind
- 47:52Speaker 6: to me.
- 47:53Speaker 4: I did.
- 47:54Speaker 6: I did flex a few times. I definitely flexed, but
- 48:00Speaker 6: I just wasn't obsessed by it. So I don't know
- 48:02Speaker 6: that I ever felt like I was like, Oh, you
- 48:04Speaker 6: made it, and oh you're rich and stuff like that.
- 48:06Speaker 6: I've just always kind of been on to the next.
- 48:09Speaker 6: It's like just trying to keep accomplishing. And that might
- 48:12Speaker 6: be a corny answer, but Bobby, I'm just telling you,
- 48:15Speaker 6: I'm still like that to this day. That's why I'm
- 48:17Speaker 6: on this phone call interview with you, right because I'm
- 48:19Speaker 6: with iHeart, I'm with Fox Sports Radio. I just continue
- 48:23Speaker 6: to just kind of keep building what it is that
- 48:25Speaker 6: I do.
- 48:25Speaker 4: Just stay hungry, umbling hungry.
- 48:27Speaker 3: I was listening to Calhart's podcast and I heard Up
- 48:31Speaker 3: on Game come on the promo you guys do for
- 48:33Speaker 3: Up on Game, and it was it's you and who's
- 48:35Speaker 3: Manzada and Plexico And Yeah, I was like, dang, that
- 48:39Speaker 3: is like a legit group of guys here talking about Yeah.
- 48:42Speaker 4: So I appreciate.
- 48:43Speaker 2: How did you three come together to do this show?
- 48:46Speaker 4: Well, I was an evil scientist. You know.
- 48:49Speaker 6: Receivers are the most touched special individuals.
- 48:54Speaker 4: That you'll ever meet that that play football.
- 48:57Speaker 6: So they're very they're very uh interesting, we'll say, and
- 49:01Speaker 6: how they view the world around them. And TJ and
- 49:05Speaker 6: Plexico even in particular, more specifically, are very touched and
- 49:10Speaker 6: very special. TJ has such a strong, pronounced underdog boulder
- 49:16Speaker 6: on his shoulder type of approach, and Plexico is just
- 49:20Speaker 6: real smooth and just very very laid back, unassuming but
- 49:25Speaker 6: yet very opinionated type of dude. And I just like
- 49:29Speaker 6: being the one that kind of facilitates the discussions. As
- 49:33Speaker 6: a linebacker, I like to create and instigate like we
- 49:37Speaker 6: did in the locker rooms and sit back and see
- 49:40Speaker 6: what color the wall is going to be. Once you
- 49:41Speaker 6: throw something out there and you get it started, you
- 49:43Speaker 6: get it popping, then you start to realize that, you know,
- 49:47Speaker 6: you hear a lot of cool things being tossed around
- 49:51Speaker 6: in terms of what it would sound like if you
- 49:53Speaker 6: were sitting in the locker room listening to a conversation
- 49:55Speaker 6: take place.
- 49:57Speaker 3: You guys can check out Levar's podcast network it's also
- 49:59Speaker 3: called Up on Game. They have close to fifteen shows
- 50:01Speaker 3: you can subscribe. Just go search for Up on Game
- 50:04Speaker 3: on the iHeartRadio app or wherever you get your podcasts.
- 50:07Speaker 2: Final question, LeVar, who was.
- 50:09Speaker 3: The quarterback that you hated being lined up across from
- 50:13Speaker 3: because he was also reading you as much as you
- 50:15Speaker 3: were reading him, if not more.
- 50:16Speaker 6: Quarterback that I didn't like the most, that I hated
- 50:20Speaker 6: the most.
- 50:21Speaker 2: And not personally.
- 50:22Speaker 3: But you knew you also couldn't fall into your tendencies
- 50:25Speaker 3: because if he sees you do this, he's going to
- 50:28Speaker 3: exactly where you're going.
- 50:30Speaker 4: Pete Manning, dopest quarterback ever to me, what separated his ACU? Simple?
- 50:39Speaker 6: He just it was he was like a cyborg half man,
- 50:42Speaker 6: half machine man, half half computer, half like artificial intelligence,
- 50:47Speaker 6: like a cyborg type dude, you know, and you could
- 50:50Speaker 6: tell he was analyzed. Dear, do that just read alert
- 50:58Speaker 6: like like real real computer like man like Peyton Manning
- 51:02Speaker 6: was to do.
- 51:03Speaker 3: Listen, you guys, go subscribed up on Game and you
- 51:06Speaker 3: can see all the shows. Check out the show Up
- 51:08Speaker 3: on Game. And then also, you know, two pros on
- 51:11Speaker 3: a couple of Joe.
- 51:11Speaker 2: It sounds like you're always giving your opinion on something
- 51:14Speaker 2: like you are in the opinion game.

- 51:18Speaker 3: you're doing here. So congratulations, Hey.
