- 0:05SPEAKER_00: Hi, I'm Kate Dresden, and welcome to Kate's Devotional Podcast.
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: I drop my podcast every Wednesday.
- 0:11SPEAKER_00: It's always a five-minute or less devotional to bring you encouragement as we try to live our lives according to the Bible.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: So glad you're here.
- 0:19SPEAKER_00: Has God ever asked you to do something and you didn't feel up to the task?
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: Did you have a bunch of excuses as to why you couldn't do it?
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: Well, I want to talk today about Moses because he came up with a lot of excuses when he found out what God had planned for him.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: I'm talking about what happened in Exodus chapters three and four, when God actually spoke to Moses through a burning bush.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: God said to him, I'm sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people out of Egypt.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: But Moses wasn't so thrilled about that assignment.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: He starts to give God all these excuses.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: He said, who am I to do this?
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: Like I'm a nobody.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: And you know, with each excuse, God gave Moses a solution.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: So when Moses said to him, who am I to do this?
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: God said, Moses, I'm going to be with you.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: So then Moses says something like, but God, what if they don't listen to me?
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: And God told him they're going to listen to you because you're going to be able to turn this staff into a snake.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: Guys, remember that?
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: You're also going to be able to turn water into blood.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: And he also told them that if Moses was to take his healthy hand, he had to stick it in his clothes and bring it back out.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: It's going to be covered with leprosy.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: And then he was to repeat that and the hand would come out healthy again.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: But that didn't even convince Moses about this whole thing.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: So he told God, but I can't do this.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: I'm no good at speaking in front of people.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: And God said, I'm going to help you do it.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: Then Moses came back with something like, can you just send somebody else?
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: Well, that was really testing God.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: God got angry.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: And he told Moses he was going to teach him what to say.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: And he was going to have his brother Aaron even help him out.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: Have you guys ever felt like Moses, totally inadequate and unprepared to do what God has called you to do?
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: You know, I think everybody has their doubts about their skills and abilities at some time or another, but God is more than capable of helping us to get it done.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: We don't want to be like Moses.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: We don't want to try to get out of stuff.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: We want to be obedient and without all those excuses.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: We have to remember that being obedient to God doesn't mean that everything goes smoothly or everything comes out just right.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: I think that the benefit is in what God's teaching us through the process, not necessarily the results.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: And after all, Pharaoh didn't let the Israelites go right away.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: Maybe right now you're feeling a little unsure about tackling some kind of task that God has given you.
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: Well, I'm going to give you some encouragement straight from the Bible.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: God gives us the same promises that he gave to people like King David or the Apostle Paul or Daniel.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: Okay, number one, he's going to be with you.
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: Matthew 28:20, and I'm going to read out the New King James Version says, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: And number two, he's going to provide what you need.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: Philippians 4:19 says, And number three, he will help you to accomplish his will.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: Philippians 2.13 says, And last, number four, he will provide the strength you need.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: Philippians 4:13 says,
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: He doesn't need us to accomplish his plans, that's for sure.
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: But isn't it a privilege for us to get to obey him while we're following his lead?
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: We can actually glorify him in the process.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: We can trust God as we step out in faith and obedience because it's more about God's abilities than it is about ours.
- 4:07SPEAKER_00: And I can guarantee you'll never regret following his leading in your life.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: And I hope we all can pray this prayer today because I know it's mine.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: Dear Lord, here am I. Use me.
- 4:21SPEAKER_00: I know he's going to use you in ways you never dreamed possible because that's just the kind of God he is.
