- 0:00Praise God. Well, more of you came than I thought
- 0:04would be here this morning. So I'm glad that
- 0:08you're here. We've got a great online community
- 0:11this morning as well. So I want to welcome all
- 0:14of our people online. Can we give a big shout
- 0:18out to our people online today? All right. All
- 0:22right. We have more than usual there. And if
- 0:26you are online at home and you have a prayer
- 0:29need, type that in and just type it into the
- 0:33feed. We're going to pray for people this morning.
- 0:37And so we're glad that you're here. We already
- 0:40read the verse from Luke chapter 1, but I would
- 0:43like you to go there to Luke chapter 1 and verse
- 0:4539. Luke is the third book in the New Testament.
- 0:51And so Matthew, Mark, and Luke, Luke was not
- 0:55one of the 12 disciples, Luke was a physician,
- 0:59and Luke wrote the book of Luke, and also the
- 1:04book of Acts. In fact, the number of verses in
- 1:08the New Testament, Luke wrote more of the New
- 1:12Testament than even Paul. Think about that, verse
- 1:17by verse. And so that's pretty cool. And so his
- 1:20account of the history of the New Testament,
- 1:26the life of Christ, Christ, the ministry of Christ,
- 1:29and then the life of the New Testament church
- 1:33is incredibly vital. His perspective is unique.
- 1:37And so he records more of the birth story of
- 1:42Christ than any other author. And so a lot of
- 1:47things in the book of Luke that are really, really,
- 1:50really important. Talking about we're beginning,
- 1:59I have the privilege of beginning this season,
- 2:03this Christmas season, talking about hope. These
- 2:08are going to be the next four Sunday themes that
- 2:11are on the wall. And so we're going to be looking
- 2:15at hope this morning. I want to just pause a
- 2:20moment and I want to pray and I want to ask the
- 2:22Lord to just help me right now. Father, we just
- 2:25come before you. And I thank you for your word.
- 2:29And I'm just acutely aware this morning that
- 2:33you want to speak to people right where they
- 2:38are. God, I believe that you have something for
- 2:43every single person, whether they're here, whether
- 2:47they're at home because of the weather or wherever
- 2:50they are. Lord, I ask in Jesus' name that you
- 2:55would speak. to our hearts. We thank you for
- 2:59your word. And everybody said together, amen,
- 3:04amen. So there was a woman named Florence Chadwick.
- 3:12This is not a joke, Brother Dale. He's waiting
- 3:15to see if I'm going to turn it to a joke. Florence
- 3:20Chadwick in 1952 was an amazing swimmer. And
- 3:26she swam the English Channel several times. And
- 3:31she was attempting to swim in the Pacific Ocean
- 3:37off the coast of California, a 26 -mile swim
- 3:42from Catalina Island to the California coastline.
- 3:4926 miles in good temperatures. is nearly impossible
- 3:55for most of us. I'm sure there's probably not
- 3:59anybody in this room that could accomplish a
- 4:0326 -mile swim. But she was trying to accomplish
- 4:09it in the Pacific Ocean, where the temperatures
- 4:13were frigid. There were boats around her to watch
- 4:17for sharks and dangers in the water. While she
- 4:23was swimming, a fog rolled in, and she could
- 4:28not see more than just a couple hundred feet
- 4:32in front of her because of the fog was so thick.
- 4:36On a normal day, she could see the coastline
- 4:39from miles and miles away, even swimming low
- 4:43in the water. And the fog was so thick, not being
- 4:49able to see, she began... to lose hope. And she
- 4:57began to think, I am never going to make it.
- 5:02And after 15 hours in the water, she did something
- 5:09that she rarely ever did. Florence gave up. She
- 5:19gave up. And they pulled her into the boat. And
- 5:25she was devastated when she realized something
- 5:32that was heartbreaking because the shore was
- 5:38less than one mile away. She had swam over 25
- 5:44miles and she gave up. Less than one mile away.
- 5:53And in a later interview, she said, I think if
- 5:58I could just have seen the shore, I would have
- 6:04made it. It's a powerful story, isn't it? I think
- 6:10if I could just have seen the shore, I would
- 6:15have made it. Hope. Hope is a precious commodity.
- 6:23I was on Friday with my dad watching the Bears
- 6:26game. Oh, hallelujah. Somebody say amen. Dale
- 6:34and I rarely agree, but we do agree about the
- 6:37Bears. And I was watching the game, and the Eagles
- 6:43at one point scored a touchdown in like five
- 6:45plays and 92 yards. And my heart began to feel
- 6:50the momentum shift. And in sports, one thing
- 6:55that you try to do early in a match or a game
- 6:59or whatever you're playing is you try to eliminate
- 7:02the hope that the other team has. If you're ahead,
- 7:07you try to get far enough ahead to make the other
- 7:12team feel like they cannot win. There's no way
- 7:16that you can come back. Once the opponent that
- 7:21you're playing against gets a spark of hope,
- 7:26everything can change. Isn't that right? Everything
- 7:30can change because of hope. You've probably heard
- 7:35of the rat in the water experiment that was conducted
- 7:41by Kurt Richter in the 1950s, demonstrating the
- 7:47power of hope. He was drowning rats in water.
- 7:54And he found out that after 15 minutes, the rats
- 7:59would give up and die. But he noticed something.
- 8:04So a rat was about to drown, and just at the
- 8:08brink of pulling it out of the water, just at
- 8:13the brink of death, he would pull it out of the
- 8:15water. And the rat realized that just at the
- 8:21point that I thought I couldn't go any longer,
- 8:24rescue is coming. They would take that same rat.
- 8:30and they would put it back in the water after
- 8:32it had recovered, and that rat would tread water
- 8:36for nearly 60 hours. Why? Because it thought
- 8:46it was going to be saved. That's crazy, isn't
- 8:52it? This morning, I don't want to talk about
- 8:56hope for winning a... or hope for a rat, I want
- 9:04to talk about hope in life. For things that really
- 9:08matter, because games come and go. I've got sports
- 9:12stories. from my past that I still talk about,
- 9:16times I lost that I knew looking back I could
- 9:19have won, times where I could have done something
- 9:22different that I wish. How many of you dream
- 9:25about moments like that still in your life? You
- 9:29dream about things, oh, if I just would have
- 9:32made it five more yards. I have things like that
- 9:37that I still. dream about that I wish that I
- 9:41could have done differently. But you know what?
- 9:43Those things do not matter. I want to talk about
- 9:47hope that matters today. And the life story of
- 9:53Elizabeth, I want to read it again in verse 39
- 9:57of Luke chapter 1. Mary arose in those days and
- 10:01went into the hill country with haste to a city
- 10:04of Judah and entered the house of Zacharias and
- 10:08greeted Elizabeth. And it happened when Elizabeth
- 10:11heard the greeting of Mary that the babe leaped
- 10:16in Elizabeth's womb. And Elizabeth was filled
- 10:21with the Holy Spirit. And she spoke out with
- 10:25a loud voice and said, Blessed are you among
- 10:28women speaking to Mary, and blessed is the fruit
- 10:31of your womb. But why is this granted to me that
- 10:36the mother of my Lord should come to me? For
- 10:40indeed, as soon as the voice of your greeting
- 10:43sounded in my ears, the babe leaped in my womb
- 10:48for joy. Blessed is she. who believed. For there
- 10:54will be a fulfillment of those things which were
- 10:58told to her from the Lord. Thank you, Father.
- 11:03So this is an incredible story that relates to
- 11:07hope, and it connects with every single one of
- 11:12us because Elizabeth was a real person. She lived
- 11:16in a real world with real problems. She was a
- 11:22Jew living in a nation that was occupied by Rome.
- 11:26It was not an easy time for anybody to be alive.
- 11:30She had personal issues, and she had personal
- 11:34struggle. She was barren, and to be barren in
- 11:38a time like that was more than just not having
- 11:42a child. It was to be viewed as being cursed.
- 11:47It was to be viewed as a person that had done
- 11:51something wrong in the eyes of God. And so God
- 11:55would not allow you to have children. And so
- 11:59Elizabeth and Zachariah lived with a lot of pressure
- 12:04and a lot of difficulty swirling around them.
- 12:09Our situations in our time might be a little
- 12:13bit different. The perspectives that people have
- 12:16on these types of issues are not the same in
- 12:19our culture. Perhaps your situations are different.
- 12:23Perhaps the stuff that you are walking through
- 12:26is very different. But Elizabeth was transformed
- 12:31by the power of God. and she was transformed
- 12:35by the power of God because she placed her hope
- 12:41in him. Amen? And so... I am believing this whole
- 12:47Christmas season that God is going to do some
- 12:51things in your lives. I believe that God, this
- 12:54Christmas season, is going to draw you nearer
- 12:57to himself. The devotional that Cammie wrote,
- 13:01she said, we prepared a devotional. And she used
- 13:06that plural, and I could stand up here and take
- 13:09credit for that. But she has been writing this
- 13:12devotional for about two months now. putting
- 13:15it together. And so it is not a we thing. It
- 13:18is something that she put together. She probably
- 13:20didn't want me to say that. But this is... Why
- 13:24do this? Because corporately, we're seeking to
- 13:28draw nearer to the Lord than we've ever been
- 13:30before. Amen? And I'm believing that this Christmas
- 13:33season is not going to be about decorations primarily
- 13:37and presents, although I love decorations and
- 13:41presents. I love all that stuff. I think it's
- 13:43a great addition to our celebration. But primarily,
- 13:47I'm believing that you are going to draw near
- 13:50to Jesus this Christmas. season. And that you're
- 13:55going to look back on Christmas 2025 and you're
- 13:57going to say, that's a season that God did something
- 14:02in my life. That he worked in my life. Amen?
- 14:06And so we are believing that we together are
- 14:11going to draw closer to the Lord. We are secondly
- 14:14believing that as we look at these scriptures,
- 14:18this one particular in Luke chapter 1, that as
- 14:22we look at them, that we talk about his first
- 14:26coming. that it is going to propel you to talk
- 14:31about, to think about, and to look forward to
- 14:35his second coming. Because Jesus came the first
- 14:40time as a baby in a manger. He is coming back
- 14:43again as King of kings and Lord of lords. Amen?
- 14:47And so it is, you know, we have a manger up here
- 14:50as part of our decoration in our scene. We are
- 14:54not worshiping a baby that is still in a manger.
- 14:59We are worshiping a king that is at the right
- 15:02hand of the Father, that is alive forevermore,
- 15:05that is working in your life and in my life.
- 15:10We worship the King of Kings and the Lord of
- 15:13Lords, and he is preparing to return to the earth
- 15:17again. Hallelujah. We believe that with our whole
- 15:20heart. I want to declare something that's not
- 15:24in my notes right now. I am not... a Christian
- 15:29because I just couldn't make it through life
- 15:35any other way. I am not a Christian because I
- 15:43needed a crutch. I couldn't survive life on my
- 15:50own. And so things got so bad. I just needed
- 15:57something in my life. That is not why I'm a believer.
- 16:05I want to thank God for difficult seasons in
- 16:08people's lives because it is often the difficult
- 16:11season that wakes us up to the important things.
- 16:16But I am not a Christian because I went through
- 16:20a difficult season. I'm a Christian. Because
- 16:26I came face to face with Jesus. And I realized
- 16:32that I had stuff in my life that I was not right
- 16:38with God. And I needed a Savior to do what I
- 16:44could not do. Cross the bridge, the divide that
- 16:51was created by sin. Right? Because we're all
- 17:00separated from God because of sin. Can you imagine
- 17:07Saul on the road to Damascus saying, life is
- 17:13just so hard, I need a savior? You can't imagine
- 17:20that, can you? Because he was a... He was a strong
- 17:24individual. He was a strong person. He was putting
- 17:31Christians to death for their faith, thinking
- 17:36he was doing God a service. He was a strong person.
- 17:44We don't come to Christ just because we've become
- 17:48so weak we can't get by any other way. But Saul,
- 17:54on the road to Damascus, in Acts chapter 9, you
- 17:59can read the story, came face to face with Jesus.
- 18:06And more than anything else, I'm believing in
- 18:11our city, I'm believing in our culture, in our
- 18:15time, that people will come face to face with
- 18:20Jesus. Hallelujah. And I realized I need a Savior.
- 18:26I worship Jesus not because He's my crutch in
- 18:30life, but because He is worthy of my worship.
- 18:34I worship Jesus because He carried the cross
- 18:38for me. He paid the price for my sin. Hallelujah.
- 18:43And He's forgiven me. And I've met Him. And He
- 18:49walks with me. And he talks with me. I think
- 18:54about men of God particularly in the Bible because
- 18:58I view, you know, being a man, I view the scriptures
- 19:03oftentimes through the lens of and looking at
- 19:09other men in the Bible. And I think about King
- 19:13David. And I think about the strength that David
- 19:18carried. They sang of him, Saul has slain his
- 19:23thousands, but David his tens of thousands. David
- 19:29was a warrior. He was a magnificent person. He
- 19:35was strong. And he served the Lord, not because
- 19:42he was weak. He was so weak he needed a crutch.
- 19:48And that's how people often view the church.
- 19:52But David was a man's kind of man. And can I
- 19:58tell you something? It's a reflection of Jesus.
- 20:03When Jesus walked the earth, he walked the earth
- 20:09with strength. He stood up. to religious and
- 20:16sometimes political figures, he stood up with
- 20:22strength. Remember when he stood before the religious
- 20:26leaders and he said, you brood of vipers. And
- 20:31they all wanted to stone him, but Jesus, in the
- 20:33power of the Holy Spirit, walked through the
- 20:36crowd. And they couldn't lay a hand on him, even
- 20:39though they wanted to. And everybody eventually,
- 20:43by the end of his ministry, all the political
- 20:45people had united against him. And they were
- 20:49looking to kill him, but still he taught openly.
- 20:54He was a strong individual. He was worth following.
- 21:02He was worth following. kind of overplaying the
- 21:07Bears illustration here, but I love watching
- 21:10the locker room videos they show after the victory.
- 21:16And Ben Johnson, I don't think he's even a believer.
- 21:20I don't know, but he has this thing he does with
- 21:23the Bears, and he says, good, better, best. And
- 21:26in fact, that's getting real popular. How many
- 21:28of you have heard that? Good, better, best. Never
- 21:30let it rest till your good gets better and your
- 21:33better gets best. And all these men in the locker
- 21:37room following their 39 -year -old coach because
- 21:42he is viewed as a man's kind of man. And they're
- 21:49all following him and yelling and screaming for
- 21:52a game. But can I tell you, Jesus was a man's
- 21:58kind of man. Jesus stood strong. Jesus was not
- 22:04weak. He was not unsure of himself. He was a
- 22:10leader of leaders. And he's worth following.
- 22:17The King of kings and the Lord of lords that's
- 22:21coming back again. Let me come back to my notes.
- 22:27Hope is a precious... Commodity. When you lose
- 22:35hope, despair and defeat set in. When you lose
- 22:43hope, you want to give up. When you lose hope,
- 22:50you forfeit your harvest. You lose your race.
- 22:59If you have no hope, your life begins to spiral
- 23:05into apathy. You drop your face. You isolate.
- 23:14You turn inward. You begin to merely exist. But
- 23:25I have good news for you today. That God wants
- 23:29to restore hope. The hope that Elizabeth was
- 23:41living in in this scripture, and really you sense
- 23:45a lot of things in this verse overlap in joy.
- 23:49You see great joy in these verses. We're going
- 23:52to preach about that in the coming days. But
- 23:57the hope that she had, culminating here in the
- 24:02birth of her child, was cultivated in her life
- 24:09all along. Did you know that suffering well produces
- 24:22hope? Did you know that? We're going to see that
- 24:31Elizabeth positioned her life in such a way so
- 24:39that hope was her portion. Hope belonged to her.
- 24:47Hope starts with walking through difficulty well.
- 24:54And I've already described to you her life. And
- 24:59to have such hardship and such difficulty and
- 25:04still persevere through it and not give up, it
- 25:12produces hope. Let me read to you a verse from
- 25:17Romans. Just so you're not looking it up, I'll
- 25:20give it to you at the end of my reading of it.
- 25:25It says this, we glory in tribulation. This is
- 25:32kingdom talk right here. People that are normal
- 25:38don't say, I love it when I'm persecuted. I love
- 25:49it when I go through hardship. But this is what
- 25:54Paul said in Romans. I glory in tribulation.
- 26:00And Christian, you need to learn how to suffer
- 26:05well if you're going to walk in hope. I glory
- 26:12in tribulation. Now it goes on. Knowing that
- 26:17tribulation produces... And perseverance produces
- 26:27character. And character, hope. Hope. But where
- 26:40does it start? Tribulation. Now when you're suffering,
- 26:50you have a choice in how you're going to respond
- 26:55to that suffering. We typically do one of two
- 27:03things when we suffer. The first thing we do
- 27:07is we say, woe is me. I'm going through something
- 27:15nobody else has ever gone through. Life is so
- 27:19difficult. But the other response that is a response
- 27:28gifted to you from heaven, I believe. God will
- 27:32help you in it if you will take up this response.
- 27:36If you will say, you know what? I know this is
- 27:40tough. I know this is difficult. But I am still
- 27:44going to do the right thing. I know this is difficult.
- 27:48I know this is tough. But I know, even if I don't
- 27:51have them in my life right now, I know that there
- 27:54are others walking through more difficult things
- 27:56than me. And they are surviving, and they are
- 27:59thriving, and they are making it. And so do you
- 28:02know what I'm going to do? I'm going to press
- 28:04through the tribulation. And you know what's
- 28:09happening right now? You, like in a pressure
- 28:12cooker, you are forming the diamond of character
- 28:17in your life. And that character is starting
- 28:22to come through. I can make it. I can get all
- 28:26the way to the end. I can come through this.
- 28:30And you begin to encourage yourself in the Lord.
- 28:33Your tribulation produces the perseverance that
- 28:38you needed to face your own limitations so that
- 28:42you could push beyond them and become what God
- 28:45had created you to be. Character. And when you
- 28:51have that kind of character, it does something
- 28:54in you. It changes your outlook so that you look
- 29:00at a nation called America and you say this,
- 29:03America is not going to fall to pieces and fall
- 29:10to the ground and become nothing. I'm telling
- 29:15you what, I have more hope for America than I've
- 29:18ever had. I believe that her best days are still
- 29:21ahead of her. I believe that there is revival
- 29:24coming to the United States of America. I believe
- 29:28that the church is going to thrive again in the
- 29:31United States of America. I believe it with my
- 29:34whole heart. I have hope. Now, does that mean
- 29:39I believe that it's perfect? No. Does that mean
- 29:45I agree with everything happening? No, but I
- 29:49have hope. That's what character gives you, a
- 29:54new perspective. That out of these ashes, God
- 30:00can do something great. That out of this difficulty,
- 30:05something good can come forth. And I've been
- 30:10relating everything with Isaiah chapter 61. This
- 30:14is what it means that God gives beauty for ashes.
- 30:21He takes ashes and he makes something beautiful
- 30:26out of them. And do you know that's where diamonds
- 30:29come from? Ashes? Carbon. Squeezed and pressed
- 30:36together. In verse 5, this is Romans chapter
- 30:455, by the way. Verses 3 through 5. It goes on
- 30:51and it says this. And hope never disappoints
- 30:56us. Because the love of God has been poured out
- 31:05in our hearts by the Holy Spirit. Who was given
- 31:09to us. Going back to Luke chapter 1. You'll notice
- 31:16something. In verse 13. Now this is a part of
- 31:22the story we haven't touched this morning. And
- 31:27I'm not going to touch it a lot. Except that
- 31:29Elizabeth became pregnant by miracle. She was
- 31:35beyond the age of childbearing, just like Sarah
- 31:38in the Old Testament. Elizabeth was the same
- 31:42way. And even though she was beyond the age of
- 31:46childbearing, she and her husband, Zechariah,
- 31:52did not quit believing God. And so I want you
- 31:57to look at verse 13. We're not going to talk
- 31:59about this whole story. You can read the whole
- 32:01story because Zacharias, later on, he did have
- 32:05doubt and so forth. We're not going to talk about
- 32:10that as part of another message for another day.
- 32:13But look at verse 13. The angel said to Zacharias,
- 32:17do not be afraid, Zacharias, for your prayer
- 32:22is heard. and your wife will bear you a son.
- 32:29Think about that. So this is Elizabeth and Zacharias
- 32:34together. Elizabeth passed the age of childbearing,
- 32:38and yet they are still standing in the place
- 32:45of prayer, believing God for a child. Do you
- 32:54know what that tells me? That even though others
- 32:58thought their dreams were shattered and others
- 33:01thought that they were cursed, that they were
- 33:04still standing in the place of hope. That Elizabeth's
- 33:11hope was not born the day she became pregnant.
- 33:17Elizabeth was standing in hope. All along her
- 33:22journey. Why? Because she had produced character
- 33:29in her life. That stood strong. And hope does
- 33:36not disappoint. Hope comes from suffering. Anybody
- 33:44out there in the midst of tribulation. Don't
- 33:48say woe is me. Don't say, oh, what's happening
- 33:52in my life? I'm not saying that the tribulation
- 33:58is fun. That fun is just an emotion. I'm not
- 34:03saying that you have to get ascetic about it
- 34:06and say, oh, just see how much I can take. I'm
- 34:11not saying that you have to be like that. But
- 34:15I am saying this, make a decision today. That
- 34:19in the midst of the tribulation that you are
- 34:22walking through, that you are going to allow
- 34:25God to work in your life. And in the midst of
- 34:31it, shape you into the person God created you
- 34:35to be. God created you for victory. God created
- 34:41you to come all the way through. God created
- 34:45you. He wired you. He wired you. He wired you
- 34:52for overcoming. Tap into that. Lord, thank you
- 35:01for helping me. I am coming all the way through
- 35:04this thing. In Jesus' name. Praise the Lord.
- 35:10Praise the Lord. Hallelujah. He said, you shall
- 35:17call his name John, and you will have joy and
- 35:21gladness. That's the word of the Lord. And so
- 35:26the first thing that joy comes from is suffering.
- 35:29I'm going to wrap this up pretty quickly here
- 35:34and spend less time on these next points. But
- 35:37hope is rooted in trial and difficulty. Number
- 35:44two, hope comes from believing the promise. When
- 35:54the promise is given to you. Now this is where
- 35:57Zacharias failed, if we would follow through
- 36:00his story. Zacharias expressed doubt given the
- 36:04promise. But when he came home and could not
- 36:08speak, and he sign -languaged everything to Elizabeth,
- 36:11and she finally understood what the angel had
- 36:15said to her, maybe Zacharias wrote it all down,
- 36:19Elizabeth didn't respond with doubt. Elizabeth
- 36:22responded with hope. She responded with faith,
- 36:28believing the promise. And, friend, When God
- 36:34speaks to you a promise, then you have another
- 36:39choice to make. Your first choice was in the
- 36:42suffering and in the lack and in the time of
- 36:45difficulty to persevere and produce character.
- 36:50And now here's your second choice. Your second
- 36:53choice is this. When you're given the promise,
- 36:56are you going to believe the promise or are you
- 37:00not going to believe the promise? And that's
- 37:04the choice. And a person that has produced character
- 37:08in their life, that is walking in perseverance,
- 37:12a person that is walking in hope, a person that
- 37:16is walking in faith, will rise up and say, God,
- 37:20I believe your promise. Hallelujah. I believe
- 37:25your promise because hope is birthed in the promise
- 37:30of God. Hallelujah. Glory to God. And so in Hebrews
- 37:37chapter 11, in Hebrews chapter 11, I can't believe
- 37:44this isn't in my notes. I'm going to turn there
- 37:47real quick. Hebrews chapter 11. This is so good.
- 37:53It says this. Now faith is the substance of things.
- 38:02Hoped for. Wow. The evidence of things not seen.
- 38:10And so faith and hope are coupled together. They
- 38:21are eternally coupled together. Faith and hope.
- 38:28And so because I'm standing in faith, I have
- 38:34hope. Yeah, but pastor, you don't understand.
- 38:38I'm in stage four. Faith is the substance of
- 38:47things hoped for. Hallelujah. And so the evidence
- 38:56of things not seen, For by it, the elders obtained
- 39:00a good testimony. They carried faith in their
- 39:05heart, belief in God that he would come through.
- 39:09And so they obtained a good testimony. Think
- 39:14about Elizabeth's life. She had faith in God.
- 39:18She hoped in God. She hoped against everybody
- 39:21else's hope. I'm going to stand believing God.
- 39:25I'm still believing God for a son. I'm still
- 39:30believing God for a son. Everybody's cursing
- 39:35me, but I'm believing God for a son. And she
- 39:40hoped against all hope. And guess what happened?
- 39:46Her story is recorded in this book. Her story
- 39:52is recorded in the New Testament for people to
- 39:56read for all of time. As an example of a woman
- 40:01that stood strong. She obtained a good testimony.
- 40:11You know what else she did? Verse 6 says, without
- 40:18faith, it is impossible to please God. She became
- 40:24somebody that brought pleasure. To the Lord.
- 40:31Faith and hope. They're linked together. You
- 40:36know what God delights in? When the circumstances
- 40:39of life should snuff you out. The circumstances
- 40:43of life should just get you to quit. But you're
- 40:47still standing in faith, believing. You've not
- 40:51received the answer. And God is receiving the
- 40:54aroma of that faith. And it is making him happy.
- 41:00And that's what Elizabeth did. Look at her. She's
- 41:05still believing me. I want God to say that about
- 41:13me. Look, there's my son. He's still believing
- 41:19me. There's my daughter. I haven't healed her
- 41:25yet. But she's still believing me. There's my
- 41:32child. I haven't worked that miracle out yet
- 41:35that he's believing for. But they're still believing
- 41:40me. Oh, and when God looks down and he sees that,
- 41:44the answer hasn't come yet. But you're still
- 41:47standing in faith believing. Oh, he begins to
- 41:50take delight in that. That becomes a worship
- 41:54unto him. That becomes an aroma that is pleasing
- 41:57to him. Without faith, it's impossible to please
- 42:01God. But with faith, I can be one that brings
- 42:05pleasure to the Lord. This is what hope is all
- 42:09about. This is what hope is all about. This is
- 42:17what faith is all about. Do you know more than
- 42:20receiving the answer at the end, which I thank
- 42:24God happens, but more than receiving the answer
- 42:29at the end of it all, I get to bring pleasure
- 42:34to the Father. And I'm believing that this Christmas
- 42:39season, that this story of Elizabeth would become
- 42:42very real in your life. And that you will become
- 42:46a person of hope. That is not dependent upon
- 42:51your situation and how much money you make. But
- 42:55it is dependent upon you standing in faith, believing.
- 42:59Young people, stand in faith, believing God for
- 43:02your friends to come to Christ. Stand in faith,
- 43:05believing for the answer, for the miracle to
- 43:10come in the name of Jesus. Faith produces pleasure
- 43:16in God. God, I have the opportunity to bring
- 43:21you pleasure. The opportunity to stand in faith.
- 43:30Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Glory to God. Glory to
- 43:38God. Praise the Lord. Faith. produces hope, believing
- 43:56Him. You know, just say one more thing here.
- 44:05When Mary entered the home and Elizabeth, her
- 44:15baby side of her, Elizabeth's own description
- 44:20is, He leapt in me. He leapt in me. And many
- 44:32of you women know what it's like to have a baby
- 44:36in your womb and you feel that baby move. I could
- 44:40later on in Cammie's pregnancies feel the baby
- 44:43kicking, moving, but she could feel it obviously
- 44:47in a totally different way. For her to describe
- 44:51that as the baby leaping, jumping. And in that
- 44:56moment, Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.
- 45:00It's powerful. Filled with the Holy Spirit. All
- 45:10of that happened because Mary came into the house.
- 45:23But it was more than that. It wasn't Mary so
- 45:26much. It's that it was the child that Mary was
- 45:35carrying. It was Jesus as an infant in the womb
- 45:45coming in to Elizabeth's house. And even as an
- 45:52infant, the power of God expressed through the
- 45:57life of Mary, the power of God came into Elizabeth's
- 46:04home and impacted the baby Elizabeth was carrying
- 46:10and Elizabeth. And she recognized without Mary
- 46:18even saying anything, she had a word from God.
- 46:21You are carrying my Lord. That's what she said.
- 46:28You're carrying my Lord. And you're blessed because
- 46:33you are his mother. Just thinking about this,
- 46:39the times later when Jesus, would enter homes
- 46:47in his ministry. It was in a home celebrating
- 46:56a wedding where Jesus turned the water into wine.
- 47:03It was in a home, Peter's home, that Jesus came
- 47:09in and the fever left. And Peter's mother -in
- 47:13-law began to get up and serve them all. It happened
- 47:17in a home. Jesus came in the home. It was in
- 47:23a home that Jairus' daughter, the Roman soldier,
- 47:28his daughter was dead. And when Jesus came into
- 47:34the home, everything changed. And that daughter
- 47:39who was dead, came to life. It was in a home
- 47:44that the crippled man on a mat that was, remember
- 47:50they dug through the roof, the thatched roof,
- 47:53they dug through and they lowered that crippled
- 47:56man down into that home. And that man stood up
- 48:01to his feet and was healed. And it was because
- 48:05Jesus came into a home. It was in a home where
- 48:13Mary sat and worshipped and poured perfume on
- 48:19Jesus' feet that was worth a year's wages. Think
- 48:24about what you make in a year. She poured that
- 48:28out at the feet of Jesus in one act of worship
- 48:32in a home. Zacchaeus. In Zacchaeus' home, salvation
- 48:40came to him. His life was turned around. And
- 48:48after the resurrection, Jesus walked on the road
- 48:53to Emmaus, and there were two disciples that
- 48:57he started walking beside, and they didn't know
- 49:00it was him, and they invited, they compelled
- 49:02him. They didn't say Jesus. They didn't know
- 49:06it was him. But they said, come into our home.
- 49:10They compelled him to stay. And in their home,
- 49:16Jesus ate with them and talked with them. And
- 49:21when he revealed himself as the Christ, he disappeared.
- 49:26And the two disciples were left looking at one
- 49:29another. And they said, this were not our hearts
- 49:33burning within us. It happened in a home. Here
- 49:41in Elizabeth's home, she's filled with the Holy
- 49:48Spirit. In Revelation chapter 3, Jesus said this,
- 49:55Behold, I stand at the door and knock. Knock.
- 50:08And Jesus said this, if any man hears my voice,
- 50:12he's calling out. He's calling out your name.
- 50:20And if any man will open the door and let me
- 50:28in, I'll come in. Who knows what Jesus will do.
- 50:39He raises the dead. He fills people with the
- 50:42Holy Spirit. He turns water into wine. He makes
- 50:48provision where there was none. If you will open
- 50:54the door and say, Jesus, come in. Will you allow
- 51:03him in? Will you open the door of your home?
- 51:12Will you open the door of your heart? Elizabeth
- 51:21positioned herself. God, you're doing things
- 51:36in the hearts of people around this room right
- 51:38now. You're doing things in the hearts of people
- 51:42at home right now. There's some here that have
- 51:49lost hope. Do you want to restore hope to them?
- 51:58There's some here that... The need for you to
- 52:07come and just touch their heart. But there's
- 52:12some here that, Lord, you want to come alongside
- 52:17and you want to cheer on and you want to champion
- 52:19because they are living Elizabeth right now against
- 52:31everything. They are standing in faith, believing
- 52:36God. So I'm going to, in a moment, just ask you
- 52:44to stand. And I want you to stand for a couple
- 52:48of things. One, I want you to stand if you're
- 52:53here today, you're saying, you know what, I want
- 52:55to open up the door to Christ. I have never opened
- 53:01up my heart to Him. And this morning, I hear
- 53:06Him calling me. He wants to do a work in your
- 53:11life. And in a moment, if that's you, I'm going
- 53:14to ask you to stand and say, yes, that's me.
- 53:18If you're here this morning, and you're in the
- 53:23midst of a tribulation, and you're saying, I
- 53:25am standing. I am standing, but I want... I want
- 53:32you to pray for me because I have been tempted
- 53:34to lose hope. I have been tempted to not believe,
- 53:39to throw in the towel. In a moment, I'm going
- 53:44to ask you to stand. Some are already standing.
- 53:50Because I want to pray with you. And I want to
- 53:53cheer you on in your faith journey to stay strong.
- 54:01If you're here this morning and you're just saying,
- 54:09I want to grow in my faith. I want to grow in
- 54:15my faith because I want to bring pleasure to
- 54:17God. Then I want you to stand. So whatever the
- 54:24reason this morning, if one of those things applies
- 54:29to you, Just before the team begins to lead us
- 54:33in a worship song, I want you to stand right
- 54:38now in the name of Jesus. Say, yes, Lord, that's
- 54:42me. Here I am, God. I want you to do that work
- 54:45in my heart. I want you to do that work in my
- 54:48life. In the name of Jesus, people all over this
- 54:52room, thank you, Father, standing. Thank you,
- 55:00God, for the courage that is in this room right
- 55:04now. For people saying, you know what, it doesn't
- 55:07matter what everybody else thinks. This is me
- 55:10and you, Jesus. And I'm standing in faith, believing.
- 55:14I'm standing in the midst of my trial. I want
- 55:20to be a son or a daughter that brings pleasure
- 55:23to the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. Hallelujah.
- 55:31Hallelujah. Hallelujah. You at home right now,
- 55:34if you want to stand up in your living room right
- 55:38now, come on, just stand up right where you are.
- 55:42And just begin to say, God, I want to be that
- 55:45person. I want to be that son. I can't do it
- 55:50without you, Lord. In and of myself, I'm nothing,
- 55:54but I know that with you, I can stand. And I
- 55:58thank you for the character that you're forming
- 56:00in this room right now. I thank you for what
- 56:04you're doing right now in Jesus' name. I thank
- 56:10you, Father, for your goodness. Hallelujah.
