- 0:00Speaker 1: Something's off. I'm stuck. What I have isn't working, but
- 0:05Speaker 1: I don't know what to do next. Hello. Welcome to
- 0:11Speaker 1: Parents Talk. I was at a networking event recently and
- 0:16Speaker 1: I ran across Trish John and I just thought, wow,
- 0:22Speaker 1: you parents just really need to hear what she does
- 0:26Speaker 1: in the world and how it can help you and
- 0:30Speaker 1: your kids. I'm going to jump right in here. Trish,
- 0:34Speaker 1: tell us what you do and how you got into this.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Well, thank you for having me on the show. I
- 0:42Speaker 2: appreciate that, Francine. So my name is Trish John. I've
- 0:46Speaker 2: been a functionary practitioner for many years.
- 0:50Speaker 3: We'll just say that. 20 plus. We'll just say that.
- 0:53Speaker 2: The way I got into it was I was looking
- 0:56Speaker 2: for something to, I don't know, to learn, to change
- 1:02Speaker 2: the way I was living. I knew there was something missing.
- 1:05Speaker 2: Long story short, took some classes and then took deeper
- 1:09Speaker 2: classes that I learned Feng Shui. And Feng Shui is
- 1:13Speaker 2: pretty much about changing the energy in your home, office space,
- 1:19Speaker 2: wherever it may be, to attract what you're trying to
- 1:22Speaker 2: attract or to balance energy Cause that's basically what it
- 1:27Speaker 2: is about balancing energy in your environment. Okay.
- 1:33Speaker 1: I could really have used this when I was a kid. Well,
- 1:37Speaker 1: number one, I was that messy kid.
- 1:40Speaker 3: Constantly.
- 1:41Speaker 1: My mom's like.
- 1:42Speaker 3: Clean your room.
- 1:44Speaker 1: But even if I wasn't messy, I never really had
- 1:48Speaker 1: a good spot to do my homework. I think because
- 1:54Speaker 1: I've shared a room with my sister and, Maybe in
- 1:57Speaker 1: us trying to have our separate identities, the room may
- 2:02Speaker 1: have not flown as well as it could have. When
- 2:06Speaker 1: a parent comes to you, what would they typically say
- 2:12Speaker 1: to you when they decide that, oh, I've had enough?
- 2:17Speaker 1: Like my mom did many times, but there was no
- 2:20Speaker 1: one like you 50 years ago. So what would a
- 2:23Speaker 1: parent say? be feeling or thinking that would say, I
- 2:29Speaker 1: need to talk to Trish.
- 2:32Speaker 3: Okay.
- 2:32Speaker 2: So usually parents are, parents and the kids, because it's,
- 2:37Speaker 2: you know, sometimes it's the kids knowing something's not working,
- 2:41Speaker 2: but they're not sure what it is.
- 2:43Speaker 3: So it can be both.
- 2:45Speaker 2: So say it's a parent that's trying to figure out,
- 2:47Speaker 2: you know, why their child isn't sleeping, you know, not
- 2:50Speaker 2: doing well in school, being bullied. feeling overwhelmed, has a
- 2:57Speaker 2: learning disability, the ADHD type of feeling, high energy. Those
- 3:04Speaker 2: are usually the reasons why parents are reaching out to
- 3:06Speaker 2: me to help them figure out why or what could
- 3:11Speaker 2: be causing energetically, because if they're looking for me, they're
- 3:15Speaker 2: understanding that I work with energy. So energetically, what needs
- 3:19Speaker 2: to be tweaked or adjusted to help their child?
- 3:23Speaker 1: Okay, so I'd say just back five, six, seven years ago,
- 3:28Speaker 1: I didn't understand the concept of energetically. Can you explain that?
- 3:34Speaker 1: So a parent who might not understand that that is
- 3:40Speaker 1: what they are looking to solve, because they might have
- 3:43Speaker 1: a problem, but they're not understanding that it's an energetic problem.
- 3:48Speaker 2: Right, and you're right about that. Most parents, Most people,
- 3:52Speaker 2: I'm not trying to generalize, but most people don't really
- 3:54Speaker 2: understand it. So sometimes it's not even understanding that it's
- 3:58Speaker 2: the energy. Sometimes it's just understanding that something feels off.
- 4:03Speaker 2: So when they're feeling off in their home, in their
- 4:07Speaker 2: child's bedroom, or overall, they start Googling and trying to
- 4:15Speaker 2: search up something that kind of addresses the problems they're having.
- 4:20Speaker 2: And we're not talking, You know, Western medicine, we're talking
- 4:23Speaker 2: more holistic type of energy, sorry, holistic type of ways
- 4:29Speaker 2: of changing things. So that's how they could find me.
- 4:35Speaker 2: But it's just, it's not even understanding that the energy
- 4:38Speaker 2: is wrong, just understanding that something needs to be changed
- 4:42Speaker 2: and medication is not the answer. So maybe it's just
- 4:47Speaker 2: that way.
- 4:48Speaker 1: I like that. Something is off. And that's where I
- 4:53Speaker 1: work with parents or, or should I say adults, not
- 4:57Speaker 1: only parents, but something's off. I know I'm being, I'm stuck.
- 5:05Speaker 1: I know what I have isn't working, but I don't
- 5:08Speaker 1: know what to do next. So that is about when
- 5:12Speaker 1: a parent would seek somebody out like you.
- 5:16Speaker 2: Right.
- 5:16Speaker 3: Yes, absolutely.
- 5:17Speaker 2: Because they're looking for something that makes sense to them.
- 5:22Speaker 2: that they can implement, and again, without drugs or that.
- 5:26Speaker 2: Because feng shui is about changing the energy in the environment.
- 5:31Speaker 2: So they may Google that, you know, environment issues or,
- 5:35Speaker 2: you know, how do I address this problem with my child?
- 5:40Speaker 2: I'm not really sure what the specific word would be
- 5:43Speaker 2: if they don't understand energy, what the word would be,
- 5:45Speaker 2: but they would be looking for a holistic approach to
- 5:49Speaker 2: something that needs to be changed.
- 5:53Speaker 1: And I remember when you and I first talked, you
- 5:56Speaker 1: said that sometimes parents come to you wanting to fix
- 6:01Speaker 1: the whole house, but you lead them to the kid's
- 6:05Speaker 1: bedroom first. You want to talk a little bit about
- 6:09Speaker 1: why you do that?
- 6:10Speaker 3: Right.
- 6:11Speaker 2: So it's funny how situations like that happen. So I've
- 6:15Speaker 2: had a client come call me and set up a consultation.
- 6:18Speaker 2: So I went to their home and She started explaining
- 6:22Speaker 2: to me in more detail because we do a guideline
- 6:25Speaker 2: of what's going to happen during the consultation. But then
- 6:28Speaker 2: she started going off to the topic of her son
- 6:31Speaker 2: not sleeping. And she started talking more about those issues
- 6:37Speaker 2: with her son directly. And she had other children, but
- 6:39Speaker 2: those were the main issues she started talking about. So
- 6:42Speaker 2: as a feng shui practitioner, that's when I think, okay,
- 6:47Speaker 2: that's a problem for her. The other things might be issues,
- 6:52Speaker 2: but this is something that she's brought up several times.
- 6:56Speaker 2: So maybe this is something we need to address. So
- 6:59Speaker 2: in this consultation, I said to her, okay, let's go
- 7:03Speaker 2: and visit your son's room.
- 7:03Speaker 3: Let's just check it out.
- 7:04Speaker 2: Because if something's not working for your son, that affects
- 7:08Speaker 2: the whole family, which it definitely does. As parents, we
- 7:11Speaker 2: know that. If somebody's not happy in the household, it
- 7:14Speaker 2: definitely affects everybody else. So we went to the son's bedroom.
- 7:18Speaker 2: And you know, the not sleeping, he wasn't sleeping.
- 7:20Speaker 3: He was being bullied.
- 7:21Speaker 2: At school and he had self-confidence issues, obviously, hence the bullying.
- 7:27Speaker 2: So we, we, we went in there and the first
- 7:30Speaker 2: thing that I noticed and I felt was overwhelmed energy, just, uh,
- 7:37Speaker 2: you know, too much stuff happening in a place that
- 7:41Speaker 2: is supposed to be for rest, sleeping, you know, um,
- 7:46Speaker 2: spending alone time, quiet time, napping, whatever the things are
- 7:51Speaker 2: that this boy was going to do in his room.
- 7:54Speaker 2: But instead I found, you know, overloaded with toys, action
- 7:59Speaker 2: figures everywhere, very busy bedspread, wallpaper, just so much and
- 8:06Speaker 2: a desk and books. And there was so much stuff,
- 8:10Speaker 2: so much energy, because that's what the stuff is, is
- 8:13Speaker 2: so much energy that kind of just throws mixed messages.
- 8:18Speaker 2: So a person, and especially a specific child, if they
- 8:22Speaker 2: can't sleep, it's because all that energy is hitting them
- 8:27Speaker 2: all night long, literally all night long. So every moment
- 8:31Speaker 2: they're in that bedroom, they're being overwhelmed with ideas, thoughts,
- 8:36Speaker 2: things to do, solutions, like, you know, should be doing, reading, homework, playing,
- 8:44Speaker 2: How do you expect anyone to rest in that environment?
- 8:48Speaker 2: That's the question I asked her. I said, look at
- 8:50Speaker 2: the space and look at it through your son's eyes.
- 8:54Speaker 2: How do you think he's feeling here? And that was
- 8:57Speaker 2: her aha moment. And it's not, you know, it's not criticizing.
- 9:01Speaker 2: It's not calling anybody out. It's not making anybody feel
- 9:04Speaker 2: bad about it. Excuse me. It's just recognizing how energy
- 9:10Speaker 2: plays out in our environment. Because sometimes we just put
- 9:14Speaker 2: things in a room or things on a wall or
- 9:16Speaker 2: in a cupboard without even a thought to energetically how
- 9:21Speaker 2: all that affects somebody that's sitting in that situation like
- 9:25Speaker 2: the child's bedroom.
- 9:27Speaker 1: I just experienced something like that last week. I had
- 9:31Speaker 1: stacks of mail on the dining table to go through
- 9:36Speaker 1: before I did my taxes. It was overwhelming. Every time
- 9:40Speaker 1: I walked by, there it was. Well, I went through it,
- 9:44Speaker 1: and I could see the table again. And it was like, ah,
- 9:49Speaker 1: that feels better.
- 9:51Speaker 2: Right?
- 9:52Speaker 3: And that's what you want your child to feel.
- 9:53Speaker 2: When they hear she goes into their bedroom, you want
- 9:56Speaker 2: them to take that, this is my safe place. this
- 10:00Speaker 2: is my place to be me i don't have to
- 10:04Speaker 2: be anybody else because we all put masks on during
- 10:07Speaker 2: the day i don't have to be anywhere else i
- 10:09Speaker 2: don't have to be anybody else i can just be
- 10:11Speaker 2: me because this is my happy place that's the environment
- 10:15Speaker 2: you want to create in your child's bedroom not a
- 10:17Speaker 2: list of things to do not a should be, want
- 10:21Speaker 2: to be, et cetera, et cetera. It's who I am today.
- 10:25Speaker 2: That's what your room should represent. And that goes for
- 10:27Speaker 2: adults too, not just children.
- 10:30Speaker 1: Oh, when we moved into this house, the first thing
- 10:32Speaker 1: I told my husband, no TV in the bedroom. We
- 10:36Speaker 1: have blackout curtains, so we have complete darkness.
- 10:39Speaker 3: Right.
- 10:40Speaker 1: And a plain blue bedspread and pillows. That's it. Nightstand and,
- 10:47Speaker 1: you know, that's it. And that is for sleeping. Right. Right.
- 10:54Speaker 2: And people, I mean, I know it's hard because, you know,
- 10:57Speaker 2: I didn't have a massive house when I had my
- 10:59Speaker 2: little kids either. And I know people say, well, where
- 11:02Speaker 2: else do I put this stuff? Well, my answer to
- 11:06Speaker 2: that is anywhere but here. But if that's not an option,
- 11:10Speaker 2: which in my house, the first house we had wasn't
- 11:13Speaker 2: an option. Their toys had to be in their bedroom.
- 11:15Speaker 2: Their books had to be in their room. Their desk
- 11:18Speaker 2: had to be in the room. So I totally understand that.
- 11:21Speaker 2: So what I'm saying is you can still create an
- 11:24Speaker 2: environment for that child with those things in there, but
- 11:28Speaker 2: you're going to take away the other excess stuff, like
- 11:31Speaker 2: the busy wallpaper, the busy bedspread, the mounds and mounds
- 11:36Speaker 2: and mounds of toys. Maybe you don't need to keep
- 11:40Speaker 2: every toy they've ever owned. Maybe it's time to purge.
- 11:43Speaker 2: Maybe it's only keeping toys. You know, a couple containers
- 11:47Speaker 2: of things, and maybe it's hiding it in the closet.
- 11:51Speaker 2: And in feng shui, you can't hide energy. But you
- 11:54Speaker 2: can put a block up to it so it's not
- 11:57Speaker 2: at that child all night long. So closet doors.
- 12:00Speaker 3: Can create that block.
- 12:02Speaker 2: You know, a red piece of tape on the inside
- 12:06Speaker 2: of the closet, so that's blocking the energy from hitting
- 12:10Speaker 2: the child, especially if those doors are facing that bed
- 12:12Speaker 2: all night long. There's lots of little things you can
- 12:15Speaker 2: do to kind of redirect the energy because you can't
- 12:19Speaker 2: necessarily remove the energy.
- 12:22Speaker 3: So lots of ways you.
- 12:23Speaker 2: Can tweak it.
- 12:24Speaker 1: I love that tip about the red tape. Can you
- 12:27Speaker 1: tell us more about that? Because that's something even adults
- 12:32Speaker 1: could use in their rooms. Explain that, please.
- 12:35Speaker 3: So the red tape idea is very simple. It's just,
- 12:39Speaker 3: you know, it can be red duct tape.
- 12:42Speaker 2: It could be any type of red tape that you have.
- 12:45Speaker 3: The idea of it is the red.
- 12:48Speaker 2: So in feng shui, red can attract, like my red
- 12:50Speaker 2: sweater is attracting a certain intention I have, but it
- 12:54Speaker 2: also can push away energy that's too fast or not
- 12:57Speaker 2: needed or not required. So in a child's bedroom or
- 13:00Speaker 2: anybody's bedroom or any room for that matter, you can
- 13:04Speaker 2: put the red tape on the door so ideally you
- 13:07Speaker 2: want the red to be attached to the door so
- 13:10Speaker 2: say this is the door so the red tape is
- 13:12Speaker 2: on this side inside the closet as the example and
- 13:15Speaker 2: it's the intention is you're pushing away so the child's
- 13:20Speaker 2: energy is not having whatever is in that closet come
- 13:23Speaker 2: at it all day all night long or even all
- 13:25Speaker 2: day if the child spends time in their room for
- 13:28Speaker 2: whatever reason right.
- 13:29Speaker 1: Well, taping up like a red piece of paper or something?
- 13:33Speaker 3: A red piece of paper. You can do anything with
- 13:35Speaker 3: the red element tape, paper.
- 13:36Speaker 2: Or a shirt.
- 13:38Speaker 1: Hang a shirt on the back of the door.
- 13:40Speaker 2: You can hang the shirt on the back door. Like
- 13:42Speaker 2: I said, the red sweater on the back. You can
- 13:44Speaker 2: be very creative and think outside the box. If that
- 13:48Speaker 2: is not something you can do for whatever reason, maybe
- 13:51Speaker 2: you don't.
- 13:51Speaker 3: Have a closet with doors. That happens too.
- 13:54Speaker 2: You can put the red tape or the red paper–
- 13:59Speaker 2: on an item. So say it's the, you know, wall
- 14:02Speaker 2: to wall, um, Ikea shelving with all the toys that
- 14:07Speaker 2: the child has. Maybe it's just putting it on one
- 14:11Speaker 2: of those door doors or pull out units with the thing,
- 14:15Speaker 2: but intentionally it's the whole unit you're pushing away from
- 14:18Speaker 2: the child. Feng Shui, the Feng Shui I practice is
- 14:22Speaker 2: black sack. It's very spiritual. It's not, it's not a
- 14:27Speaker 2: religion by the way, but it's also not, fear-based. It's
- 14:32Speaker 2: about creating an environment that is complementing or supporting your environment.
- 14:38Speaker 2: So every feng shui cure that I would recommend is easy,
- 14:42Speaker 2: is useful, is something that's just going to tweak the
- 14:45Speaker 2: energy or adjust the energy or do whatever you need
- 14:49Speaker 2: it to do. So like I said, anything that you
- 14:53Speaker 2: have that is red, you can put there. If it's
- 14:55Speaker 2: even like You know, a heart-shaped red object, you could
- 14:59Speaker 2: place that on the nightstand beside your child's bed with
- 15:03Speaker 2: the intention of it pushing away all the non-beneficial energy,
- 15:07Speaker 2: which could be the toys, the books, the desk, et cetera,
- 15:10Speaker 2: et cetera, et cetera.
- 15:12Speaker 1: I'm going to do that today. That is just so easy.
- 15:15Speaker 3: So easy, right?
- 15:16Speaker 2: And again, it's about tweaking what you can do, not
- 15:20Speaker 2: stressing about what you can't do. So work with what
- 15:22Speaker 2: you can do. And easiest fix is adding something red
- 15:26Speaker 2: to push away the energy. The second thing would be
- 15:29Speaker 2: changing the bedspread. Like you said, your solid color bedspread.
- 15:33Speaker 2: That's what I have on mine. There's nothing that's, you're not,
- 15:37Speaker 2: you don't have, I don't have a red bedspread.
- 15:39Speaker 3: I have a.
- 15:40Speaker 2: Mint green bedspread. You have, I think you said a
- 15:42Speaker 2: blue bedspread. You want a very neutral, balanced color. You
- 15:47Speaker 2: don't want a bright red. You want a bright orange.
- 15:50Speaker 2: You don't want something that's screaming for attention. Same as
- 15:53Speaker 2: wall color. You want a very neutral color.
- 15:56Speaker 3: You don't want nothing. You don't want anything on the walls.
- 15:59Speaker 2: That are saying, look at me, pay attention to me.
- 16:03Speaker 2: I need your attention because that energy is very overwhelming.
- 16:08Speaker 2: And especially like you see posters on kids' walls with
- 16:12Speaker 2: action figures. Well, a lot of action figures can be
- 16:14Speaker 2: very aggressive energy because that's who they're portraying, which is fine,
- 16:19Speaker 2: but not in the bedrooms.
- 16:21Speaker 3: So that poster.
- 16:22Speaker 2: Belongs in a playroom, does not belong in a bedroom.
- 16:25Speaker 2: That's the kind of the idea of what you're thinking
- 16:27Speaker 2: of is you're looking at a bedroom as a child,
- 16:31Speaker 2: whatever age they are. So anybody under the age of 18,
- 16:35Speaker 2: you're looking at the room in their eyes, not your eyes.
- 16:39Speaker 2: And they may think, well, I want that action figure
- 16:41Speaker 2: because I idolize them. I want to be like them. Again,
- 16:45Speaker 2: doesn't belong in the bedroom.
- 16:48Speaker 3: Or may be.
- 16:49Speaker 2: It belongs on the inside of the closet door, not
- 16:53Speaker 2: on the outside of the closet door.
- 16:55Speaker 3: You see what I mean? It's just tweaking it.
- 17:00Speaker 1: Do you have another tip for a low hanging fruit
- 17:04Speaker 1: that parents could implement today?
- 17:07Speaker 3: Um, clutter.
- 17:09Speaker 2: Clutter is a huge one for any space, but especially
- 17:12Speaker 2: children's bedroom. So maybe it's, you know, decluttering what's, in
- 17:17Speaker 2: their room, i.e. toys, books, whatever they have in there,
- 17:20Speaker 2: because bedrooms end up being multi-purpose for many reasons. But
- 17:25Speaker 2: the other thing that I would look at is under
- 17:27Speaker 2: the bed. You have to think of it this way.
- 17:30Speaker 2: In feng shui, we think of whatever is closest to
- 17:33Speaker 2: you has the most impact on you. So again, the
- 17:36Speaker 2: bedspread and bedding, of course, is very important. But underneath
- 17:39Speaker 2: that bed, whatever you have in that space is also
- 17:44Speaker 2: very close to who's sleeping on that bed. So do
- 17:47Speaker 2: you have toys? Do you have action figures? Do you have,
- 17:53Speaker 2: you know, play weapons, special weapons? I do not recommend
- 17:56Speaker 2: that in a child's bedroom of any kind. So no swords,
- 17:59Speaker 2: no play guns, no BB guns, no anything of that type.
- 18:04Speaker 2: That energy is very aggressive, very violent, very in-your-face. Even
- 18:09Speaker 2: if you can't see it, the energy is still there.
- 18:12Speaker 2: So clearing underneath the bed. There should ideally be nothing
- 18:15Speaker 2: under a child's bed. But again, you know, we all
- 18:19Speaker 2: live in the reality world. If you have to store
- 18:22Speaker 2: something under the child's bed, the only thing that I
- 18:25Speaker 2: would recommend is linens, like, you know, out of season clothing, towels, sheets,
- 18:34Speaker 2: extra comforters, blankets, those types of things, something soft, you know,
- 18:38Speaker 2: maybe it's stuffed animals, that type of idea, nothing with
- 18:42Speaker 2: any harsh energy, nothing that's, has an overwhelming energy in it.
- 18:49Speaker 1: Sure. Okay. Now that's more for the young kids because
- 18:57Speaker 1: we talked about playrooms and action figures. What about moving
- 19:02Speaker 1: into high school where the kids are going to be
- 19:08Speaker 1: using their rooms as their personal space? They're going to
- 19:13Speaker 1: be talking on the phone to their friends. They're going
- 19:16Speaker 1: to be doing their schoolwork. How would that shift?
- 19:21Speaker 3: That's a good question.
- 19:22Speaker 2: So, you know, when my kids were little, we didn't, thankfully,
- 19:25Speaker 2: we were just starting to come out with cell phones
- 19:27Speaker 2: and all that. So we really didn't have that issue,
- 19:29Speaker 2: different world. But for today's world, most children have, or
- 19:33Speaker 2: most young adults have cell phones, computers in their bedrooms, TVs,
- 19:37Speaker 2: and all this gaming and all that stuff. So of
- 19:40Speaker 2: course I would say, don't have that in this space.
- 19:43Speaker 2: because that's a very active energy even when things are
- 19:46Speaker 2: turned off but the reality world is that that's usually
- 19:52Speaker 2: not the that is usually the situation where that is.
- 19:55Speaker 2: So a feng shui cure is to cover everything at
- 19:59Speaker 2: nighttime when it is downtime. You know, putting phones as
- 20:02Speaker 2: far away from the bed as possible, not having them
- 20:05Speaker 2: beside the phone or worse yet on the bed with them.
- 20:08Speaker 2: especially at the head, because that's a whole different conversation.
- 20:12Speaker 2: So as far away as possible, all electrical things, PlayStations, computers, laptops,
- 20:19Speaker 2: all those things, excuse me, covering them with a cloth,
- 20:24Speaker 2: so something of very, you know, neutralized color that you
- 20:29Speaker 2: can just kind of drape over things at nighttime. You know, again,
- 20:37Speaker 2: you could, put things in the closet, but then you're
- 20:39Speaker 2: going to have to be removing everything at night. Most
- 20:42Speaker 2: people will not do that. The simplest way would be
- 20:44Speaker 2: is to cover them. That's probably the best situation. And again,
- 20:51Speaker 2: furthest away from where the child is sleeping. So if
- 20:54Speaker 2: you can, move the bed or move the objects away.
- 20:59Speaker 2: Because the more room you give between the energies, the
- 21:03Speaker 2: better that child will have a better sleep overnight. And
- 21:08Speaker 2: be able to feel refreshed the next day because that's
- 21:11Speaker 2: ideal too, right? And again, when they wake up, having
- 21:14Speaker 2: all that energy, screaming at them to pay attention, especially
- 21:19Speaker 2: our phones, because that is the number one thing that
- 21:21Speaker 2: most people have, especially young adults, you know, keeping it
- 21:25Speaker 2: far away so they maybe have to get up and
- 21:27Speaker 2: do something else rather than what's on my phone first
- 21:31Speaker 2: thing when they get up. Because sometimes it's about distraction, right?
- 21:36Speaker 2: It's not necessarily having to remove the item, it's distraction.
- 21:39Speaker 2: So if it's on the other side of the room,
- 21:41Speaker 2: maybe that's all it needs, right?
- 21:43Speaker 1: Okay. Let's address the alarm clock. I remember the old
- 21:48Speaker 1: days we used to have those old fashioned alarm clocks,
- 21:51Speaker 1: but now everybody uses their phone. I know I have
- 21:56Speaker 1: my phone next to my bed because that's my alarm
- 21:59Speaker 1: in the middle of the night. I pick it up
- 22:01Speaker 1: to see what time it is. How do we address
- 22:04Speaker 1: that while keeping it across the room like that.
- 22:09Speaker 2: So, and that's a good question too. Cause you know,
- 22:12Speaker 2: the reality of it is, is most people do use
- 22:14Speaker 2: it for a long time and I'm included in that,
- 22:17Speaker 2: but so instead of having it on my nightstand on
- 22:21Speaker 2: either side, um, you can, instead of putting it on,
- 22:24Speaker 2: that's a nightstand, maybe it's putting on the other side
- 22:27Speaker 2: of the bed with the other nightstand. If you don't
- 22:29Speaker 2: have a partner, of course, excuse me. So if that's
- 22:33Speaker 2: not possible because you have a partner, then maybe it's
- 22:36Speaker 2: putting it on the floor, you know, arm's length away
- 22:40Speaker 2: from you rather than right at the table height. Because again,
- 22:44Speaker 2: that energy is hitting you all night long. And depending
- 22:47Speaker 2: on where your nightstand is, sometimes they're lower, sometimes they're higher.
- 22:51Speaker 2: Think about where that energy is coming across. You know, wherever,
- 22:55Speaker 2: whatever body part, that's not a good The table is
- 22:59Speaker 2: not a good energy, and let alone the electronic that's
- 23:03Speaker 2: beside it. So you're getting like a double whammy, shall
- 23:05Speaker 2: we say, at nighttime. So maybe like I do on
- 23:09Speaker 2: the floor, on top of a low box that I
- 23:12Speaker 2: have beside my bed, pushed aside so I can still
- 23:17Speaker 2: hear it, I can still reach it, but it's not
- 23:20Speaker 2: affecting my sleep because it's not aimed at me at night.
- 23:25Speaker 1: Another good tip I could implement today. Right.
- 23:28Speaker 3: Simple, right? It doesn't have to be complicated, right?
- 23:33Speaker 2: Okay.
- 23:33Speaker 1: So now let's move into another area of the house,
- 23:39Speaker 1: the kitchen. That's like the family gathering place. And for me, healthy,
- 23:46Speaker 1: nutritious meals are so important. How do we keep the
- 23:52Speaker 1: intention of of cooking with love in today's busy atmosphere?
- 23:59Speaker 1: Is there a way to build that energy into the family?
- 24:03Speaker 3: Well, that's a really good question.
- 24:04Speaker 2: Oh my gosh. Um, so kitchens are, you know, kitchens
- 24:08Speaker 2: have a lot of, um, uh, intentions set there.
- 24:15Speaker 3: So the kitchens are for, you know, like you said.
- 24:17Speaker 2: Creating nutritious meals, place that everybody gathers families usually that's
- 24:21Speaker 2: the place they gather either they're helping cooking or they're
- 24:23Speaker 2: watching someone cook whichever it may be um it's you
- 24:27Speaker 2: know food is our nutrition you know you want this
- 24:30Speaker 2: space to be clean organized and ready to do what
- 24:35Speaker 2: it needs to do so when you are thinking of
- 24:39Speaker 2: creating your next meal your intention should be um sending
- 24:45Speaker 2: love to the food creating that environment that people do
- 24:49Speaker 2: want to spend time there, that your food is being
- 24:53Speaker 2: respected because you're respecting yourself. There's many aspects to it.
- 24:58Speaker 2: So we'll start at the fridge. A lot of times,
- 25:03Speaker 2: especially with busy families with all the things that we do,
- 25:05Speaker 2: but anybody, busy professionals, the same entrepreneurs like ourselves, we.
- 25:10Speaker 3: All have busy lives.
- 25:11Speaker 2: The fridge is very important because that is where we
- 25:14Speaker 2: store all the perishables for our meals. So a lot
- 25:19Speaker 2: of times the fridge gets ignored. It gets put off
- 25:22Speaker 2: of things to have to maintain, clean and do right
- 25:25Speaker 2: and organize. So that's something I really try to get
- 25:28Speaker 2: families to focus on like Every time you go grocery shopping,
- 25:33Speaker 2: normally we go once a week.
- 25:34Speaker 3: I know there's always those.
- 25:35Speaker 2: Odd, oh my God, I forgot that I need that
- 25:37Speaker 2: ingredient type of shopping trips. But on average, we shop
- 25:41Speaker 2: once every week or so. But before you go shopping,
- 25:45Speaker 2: that's your cue to clean out the fridge. And I'm
- 25:48Speaker 2: not saying it has to be a drag everything out,
- 25:51Speaker 2: clean it from head to toe type of ordeal.
- 25:54Speaker 3: That's once a month, every six weeks, whatever time you have.
- 25:57Speaker 2: But whenever you're going to do this next shopping day,
- 26:01Speaker 2: This is the time to go through, you know, get
- 26:03Speaker 2: rid of the food that's spoiled, the milk that expired,
- 26:07Speaker 2: whatever it may be. Wipe down the counter because something
- 26:10Speaker 2: spilled or the drawers, whatever it is. But kind of
- 26:14Speaker 2: tweak the energy, change the energy so it's about fresh
- 26:18Speaker 2: and renewal and energizing your food again. Because moldy food,
- 26:23Speaker 2: expired food, old food, that's a really non-beneficial energy. That's
- 26:28Speaker 2: a very low vibration. You want a high vibration in
- 26:32Speaker 2: your kitchen, especially around your food. You want it to
- 26:36Speaker 2: be clean, organized, and ready to do what it needs
- 26:39Speaker 2: to do, is give you those nutrients that you all need.
- 26:43Speaker 2: So the fridge is the ideal spot to start before
- 26:46Speaker 2: you go grocery shopping. It's about emptying the recycling bin,
- 26:51Speaker 2: compost if you do that, the garbage, don't have it
- 26:53Speaker 2: always overflowing. Because the intention is you're creating meals to
- 26:59Speaker 2: support your health and whoever you're cooking for. If you're
- 27:03Speaker 2: in an environment that is not with that energy, you're
- 27:08Speaker 2: kind of giving it mixed messages. You're like, I want
- 27:12Speaker 2: to be healthy. I want to give love to my family.
- 27:14Speaker 2: I want to support them, blah, blah, blah. But the
- 27:16Speaker 2: environment's saying, yeah, no, not really. So you have to
- 27:20Speaker 2: balance that energy by doing that, by creating that environment
- 27:24Speaker 2: in your kitchen that says, Healthy meals are here. Family
- 27:28Speaker 2: connection is important to us. We want to send love
- 27:31Speaker 2: to our food. And simple ways of doing that is
- 27:34Speaker 2: you can Reiki food. If anybody that knows Reiki, it's
- 27:37Speaker 2: just a movement that you're Reiki-ing your food. But you
- 27:40Speaker 2: don't even have to do that. You can just connect
- 27:43Speaker 2: to the food that you're making and sending it love.
- 27:45Speaker 2: It's very simple.
- 27:46Speaker 3: It's not overcomplicated at all.
- 27:50Speaker 1: I once read somebody did an experiment that they had
- 27:55Speaker 1: two cups of water. And one, they praised and appreciated
- 28:01Speaker 1: and sent love to it. And the other one, they
- 28:03Speaker 1: sent all of their negativity to it. And after a while,
- 28:09Speaker 1: the two cups of water changed colors. The negative one
- 28:13Speaker 1: got darker and the good one got clearer. And then
- 28:17Speaker 1: they started doing that and drinking the clear one. And
- 28:21Speaker 1: they actually started healing their body. If you're listening to
- 28:26Speaker 1: this and it never occurred to you that saying powerful
- 28:32Speaker 1: messages over your food could help, there has been experimentation done.
- 28:37Speaker 1: And what more is saying prayers over your food than
- 28:41Speaker 1: just that?
- 28:43Speaker 3: Right.
- 28:43Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 28:44Speaker 2: And it can be simple like that. Like just, you know,
- 28:46Speaker 2: I love my family. As you're cooking, you're thinking over
- 28:49Speaker 2: and over again, I.
- 28:49Speaker 3: Love my family. We are all healthy. We are loved.
- 28:54Speaker 3: We are supported. Whatever the wording is that you want.
- 28:57Speaker 2: So if you're in a kitchen where, you know, everybody's screaming,
- 29:00Speaker 2: there's chaos, a mess, that energy goes into your food.
- 29:04Speaker 2: Just so you know that. And it's, again, not fear-based.
- 29:08Speaker 2: Just being aware of that. That is what you're creating
- 29:11Speaker 2: when you're cooking. So take a moment. Get things a
- 29:14Speaker 2: little more organized. Be a little more calmer when you're cooking.
- 29:18Speaker 2: Have a calm environment. And that alone is sending the
- 29:21Speaker 2: better intention into your food.
- 29:25Speaker 1: I used to be the ultimate multitasker, especially when I
- 29:30Speaker 1: was still working. I would be cooking and I'd make
- 29:34Speaker 1: sure everything was as efficient as possible, doing two or
- 29:39Speaker 1: three things at one time while listening to maybe a
- 29:42Speaker 1: book or a educational video. And one day my coach
- 29:48Speaker 1: told me, just do one thing. And I did. I
- 29:52Speaker 1: just made brownies for my husband. And no book off
- 29:58Speaker 1: to the side, listening to it, just one cooking, one item,
- 30:03Speaker 1: not even trying to be efficient about it, like doing
- 30:07Speaker 1: the Rachel Ray and getting everything out of the refrigerator
- 30:10Speaker 1: all at one time, just enjoying the process. And he
- 30:15Speaker 1: told me that the brownies tasted better.
- 30:18Speaker 2: Right, because that love he felt, because your mind was
- 30:21Speaker 2: focused on what you were doing, not what you were thinking.
- 30:25Speaker 2: Because thinking about the book you're listening to or the
- 30:27Speaker 2: podcast you're listening to or the kid that's talking to you,
- 30:30Speaker 2: you know, it's all good. But it's really not encouraging
- 30:35Speaker 2: that food to have any benefit at all, except let's
- 30:38Speaker 2: put a little more overwhelm into you. That's what you're
- 30:40Speaker 2: saying to me.
- 30:41Speaker 1: I remember I was living with my in-laws and they
- 30:46Speaker 1: had two young boys and it was always chaotic. No
- 30:51Speaker 1: one wanted to cook. They ordered out most of the
- 30:54Speaker 1: time or just had a bowl of cereal, right? Well,
- 30:57Speaker 1: I started cooking and the boys were being chaotic as normal.
- 31:04Speaker 1: So I started to include them in on the process.
- 31:08Speaker 1: I started doing little lessons on measurements, on measuring the food,
- 31:13Speaker 1: simple addition. If I asked you for three tablespoons, And
- 31:21Speaker 1: then you need three more tablespoons. How many tablespoons is that?
- 31:28Speaker 1: So just these simple little things calmed the chaos. And
- 31:34Speaker 1: everybody was calmer when we ate. There was actually a
- 31:38Speaker 1: family meal in that house rather than everybody making a
- 31:42Speaker 1: sandwich or sitting down with a bowl of cereal by themselves.
- 31:45Speaker 1: And I felt more relaxed. And I don't know if
- 31:50Speaker 1: I ever made an impression on them, but you know what?
- 31:54Speaker 1: It did wonders for me.
- 31:56Speaker 3: Right?
- 31:56Speaker 2: And isn't that true too, right? And you absolutely did.
- 32:00Speaker 2: Even if they've never spoken those words to you, because
- 32:02Speaker 2: maybe they didn't even recognize it, but I bet they
- 32:05Speaker 2: started looking.
- 32:06Speaker 3: Forward to those meals.
- 32:09Speaker 1: Right?
- 32:09Speaker 3: Right. Especially with young kids.
- 32:11Speaker 2: You want kids to be involved in cooking because they
- 32:13Speaker 2: don't learn otherwise. You think they just learn by watching?
- 32:16Speaker 2: Most people don't, let alone children. Um, they, they definitely don't.
- 32:21Speaker 2: So the more involved you can get them.
- 32:23Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 32:23Speaker 2: And that's even putting their energy into the food too.
- 32:27Speaker 2: And then they feel proud and they feel like they've
- 32:29Speaker 2: accomplished something and they've learned something. And it's not what
- 32:32Speaker 2: we want our kids to do is have all those
- 32:34Speaker 2: wonderful feelings about their self. Cause that gives them confidence.
- 32:39Speaker 1: And well, especially that was in the deep South where
- 32:44Speaker 1: men were men and women were women. And, you know,
- 32:48Speaker 1: cooking was a woman's job. But how many young men
- 32:52Speaker 1: grew up not knowing how to cook for themselves?
- 32:55Speaker 3: Absolutely. Unfortunately, a lot. Yeah.
- 32:59Speaker 1: And just those boys now understand just a little bit
- 33:04Speaker 1: more about what goes into making a meal. Don't know
- 33:09Speaker 1: that they ever cooked a full meal again, but at
- 33:13Speaker 1: least now they know what the effort that's put into it.
- 33:17Speaker 1: So when their wife does the wife's duty, at least
- 33:21Speaker 1: they can appreciate a little bit more what she's doing.
- 33:25Speaker 2: And that's the goal is to get them to at
- 33:27Speaker 2: least appreciate it and understand what it takes to become,
- 33:31Speaker 2: to create.
- 33:31Speaker 3: A meal from start to finish. Right.
- 33:34Speaker 2: From scratch, you know, not microwavable.
- 33:38Speaker 1: And it was funny because like I said, these were
- 33:40Speaker 1: my in-laws and they, I wasn't raised that way. My
- 33:46Speaker 1: brother was cooking full meals when he was in middle
- 33:49Speaker 1: school because my parents worked. And I was already in
- 33:53Speaker 1: the Navy, but I was hearing reports of my baby brother.
- 33:58Speaker 1: My mom would come home and they'd have fresh baked
- 34:00Speaker 1: bread and full meal cooked. And that's the way I
- 34:05Speaker 1: was raised. So to go to the South and see
- 34:09Speaker 1: the other way people lived It was a real culture shock.
- 34:14Speaker 2: Sure it was.
- 34:15Speaker 3: My gosh, yeah. Big difference.
- 34:18Speaker 1: Now, back in, well, I guess that is kind of
- 34:21Speaker 1: thanks in a roundabout way because it was moving that energy.
- 34:27Speaker 2: It totally was. And energy is everywhere. Energy can never
- 34:34Speaker 2: be destroyed, but it can be manipulated. It can be adjusted.
- 34:38Speaker 2: It can be tweaked. And it can fit to your intention.
- 34:43Speaker 2: So that's the, that's the, you know, the sparkle of
- 34:48Speaker 2: it all is that it can be adjusted to how
- 34:51Speaker 2: you need it to be by just understanding how to
- 34:54Speaker 2: work with it. And that's just the rule is learning
- 34:57Speaker 2: how to work with it.
- 35:00Speaker 1: So if a parent would want to maybe get a
- 35:07Speaker 1: consultation now, first off, Where are you? And you're not
- 35:14Speaker 1: limited by location, right? Right.
- 35:17Speaker 2: I do virtual consultations as well as in person. So, yeah,
- 35:20Speaker 2: if I can't be there because of the distance of travel,
- 35:23Speaker 2: then we can definitely do a virtual one. And it
- 35:25Speaker 2: doesn't matter.
- 35:27Speaker 3: Energy is energy.
- 35:28Speaker 2: So I still connect with the energy in your home.
- 35:30Speaker 2: I can still do a full consultation.
- 35:32Speaker 3: It makes no difference.
- 35:34Speaker 1: So where are you physically?
- 35:36Speaker 2: I'm in Ontario, Canada.
- 35:38Speaker 1: Ontario, Canada. Okay. Okay. So for those of us in
- 35:41Speaker 1: the U.S., how would they reach you to get this
- 35:45Speaker 1: virtual consultation?
- 35:49Speaker 2: So you just go onto my website. It's magicalspaces.ca. And
- 35:53Speaker 2: you can just click on the link that says work
- 35:55Speaker 2: with me, and it will give you the different types
- 35:57Speaker 2: of services I offer. It's the whole home alignment consultation
- 36:02Speaker 2: that you want. And that's literally we work on the
- 36:05Speaker 2: whole home, keeping in mind, though, we work on what
- 36:08Speaker 2: needs to be adjusted. If things are working out in
- 36:12Speaker 2: a certain area, then we don't deal with that because
- 36:15Speaker 2: if it ain't broke, don't fix it, as they say.
- 36:17Speaker 2: We only want to work on the things that you
- 36:19Speaker 2: need to adjust, not things that are working fine because
- 36:23Speaker 2: why would you waste the time doing that, right? And
- 36:25Speaker 2: the adjustments can be simple, like the red tape example.
- 36:29Speaker 2: It can be a bed positioning. It can be, you know, decluttering.
- 36:33Speaker 2: It can be many simple little things. I never recommend renovations.
- 36:39Speaker 2: I don't expect you to renovate a bathroom because that's
- 36:42Speaker 2: not the ideal location it's about tweaking whatever is in
- 36:45Speaker 2: that location um to make it work for you and
- 36:48Speaker 2: i just want to bring into this this is the
- 36:51Speaker 2: bagua map and that's the understand that's that's the map
- 36:55Speaker 2: that i use uh by placing it on your floor
- 36:58Speaker 2: plan so you we can so i can explain to
- 37:01Speaker 2: you where your wealth area is where your health area
- 37:04Speaker 2: is where your helpful people area etc etc because there's
- 37:07Speaker 2: nine sorry there's nine areas on the bagua.
- 37:10Speaker 1: Map Can you explain a little bit more what that's
- 37:14Speaker 1: all about? Sure.
- 37:15Speaker 2: So the bubble map, like I said, has nine areas.
- 37:18Speaker 2: They're all connected. The center area is your health. I'll
- 37:22Speaker 2: bring it a little closer so you can see it.
- 37:24Speaker 2: Center is your health, because without your health, nothing works
- 37:28Speaker 2: in life. You certainly can't go to your job and
- 37:31Speaker 2: make money, and you certainly can't take care of your
- 37:33Speaker 2: family if you're not able to. When you start at
- 37:38Speaker 2: your front entrance, your door is in skills and knowledge, career,
- 37:42Speaker 2: or helpful people. It's always in one of these areas,
- 37:45Speaker 2: no matter which direction, because I don't do compass feng shui.
- 37:49Speaker 2: I do black sect feng shui, S-E-C-T. So your entrance
- 37:55Speaker 2: of your home, talking main floor only, your door is
- 37:58Speaker 2: one of these locations. Let's say it's in career. It's
- 38:01Speaker 2: in the center of facing when you face your door,
- 38:03Speaker 2: your home. The back left looking into your home is
- 38:07Speaker 2: always the wealth. Back middle is always fame. And the
- 38:11Speaker 2: back right is always relationships. And relationships are all relationships.
- 38:17Speaker 2: So spouse, children, family, coworkers, all the people that are
- 38:22Speaker 2: in your life. Then we have family on the back, sorry,
- 38:27Speaker 2: the left middle. On the left right is children and creativity.
- 38:33Speaker 2: Then on the... Front right is helpful people, like I said,
- 38:38Speaker 2: and the front left is the skills and knowledge. And
- 38:43Speaker 2: basically what this, what this Bagua map explains or does,
- 38:48Speaker 2: its job is to tell you where these areas are,
- 38:52Speaker 2: so which rooms they are in, so you understand what
- 38:57Speaker 2: intention should be set there.
- 38:59Speaker 3: So I'll give you an example.
- 39:02Speaker 2: If you're Wealth area, your back left-hand corner, is your
- 39:06Speaker 2: dining room, say. And it's just, you know, like you said,
- 39:11Speaker 2: your stuff's on the dining room table, just tons of
- 39:15Speaker 2: unfinished projects, especially if it's tax-related or money-related. That's your
- 39:21Speaker 2: wealth area. So you have to look at it like this.
- 39:23Speaker 2: So if I was a stranger to your home and
- 39:26Speaker 2: I knew that was your wealth area and you had bills,
- 39:29Speaker 2: unpaid bills, paid bills taxes all things financial here but
- 39:34Speaker 2: not in a good way it was disorganized just a
- 39:37Speaker 2: lot of muddled stuff how is the energy being read
- 39:42Speaker 2: it's telling the energy or the intention is saying My
- 39:46Speaker 2: finances are out of control. I'm not organized. I don't
- 39:50Speaker 2: respect my money. I don't have time for money. I
- 39:54Speaker 2: don't attract money. I repel it because of all the
- 39:57Speaker 2: clutter and all the disorganization. That's just one example. There's
- 40:02Speaker 2: many different examples I can give you.
- 40:05Speaker 3: Relationships.
- 40:06Speaker 2: Say this is your bedroom. This is where you spend
- 40:09Speaker 2: time with your spouse. Is that bedroom representing a relationship
- 40:13Speaker 2: or is it representing hobbies? things to do, clutter, unfinished projects, overwhelm, anxiety, ADHD,
- 40:23Speaker 2: disconnection from your relationship. What is that space telling you energetically?
- 40:30Speaker 2: And in feng shui, we say your environment is a
- 40:34Speaker 2: reflection of your life, and your life is a reflection
- 40:37Speaker 2: of your environment. So if something is not working in
- 40:41Speaker 2: those nine areas of your life, Check the environment because
- 40:44Speaker 2: that environment is usually reflecting that problem. So depending on
- 40:49Speaker 2: what it is, and there can be a whole list
- 40:52Speaker 2: of different things that we could have going wrong in
- 40:54Speaker 2: our lives, usually the energy is the same in your
- 40:57Speaker 2: home or your office or your business, whatever it may be.
- 41:02Speaker 1: This is fascinating. Absolutely fascinating. I wish we had some
- 41:06Speaker 1: more time. Maybe you could come back on again. Maybe
- 41:10Speaker 1: we could do a consultation and then talk about it.
- 41:13Speaker 3: I love that. Absolutely.
- 41:16Speaker 1: Yes. So everybody stay tuned because Trish and I are
- 41:20Speaker 1: going to do a consultation on my environment and we'll
- 41:23Speaker 1: talk about it. So you could get to know me
- 41:24Speaker 1: a little bit better and get to know how Trish
- 41:28Speaker 1: helps her, her people. Awesome.
- 41:33Speaker 3: Yes. Thank you. That's great.
- 41:35Speaker 2: Love that.
- 41:35Speaker 1: All right. Well, everybody, this is the, end of this
- 41:40Speaker 1: episode of Parents Talk. I hope you enjoyed it. If
