- 0:34of content in the near future. And yeah.
- 0:38That's help us, help you help us.
- 0:39Help you. Follow the money and party
- 0:44party. This is Part B, the less fun
- 0:48part. Because it's also known as Part
- 0:502 singles in it. For the biggest offseason
- 0:54signings and their fantasy impacts for this upcoming NHL
- 0:57season, follow us all the social medias as mentioned TikTok, new
- 1:02to that very fun and Instagram as well and Spotify, Apple
- 1:07podcast, wherever you get your podcasts and take it away, Josh,
- 1:11with the remaining of the biggest offseason signings.
- 1:15All right, the next trifecta of signings are all by the same
- 1:19team. They're all huge and they're all
- 1:21unfair to the rest of the league.
- 1:25Gosh darn in Florida. Yeah.
- 1:28Really exciting maybe? Ever.
- 1:30Yeah, they sign Brad Marshawn to a 6 * 5.25 mil contract, which
- 1:36is BS to sign a 37 year old player to a six year contract.
- 1:40I'm pretty sure there's rules against that in the NHL.
- 1:42I know when I'm serious. When the Leafs tried to sign
- 1:45Tanev to like a 7-8 year contract when he was like 36,
- 1:50the league said no. Because obviously the strategy
- 1:53here, if the league did have rules against it, is you signed
- 1:54an old guy to a super long contract and then they retire
- 1:58halfway through that and you still pay them their money.
- 2:01So they're still happy. But they took a lower salary
- 2:03cap. So it's a way to kind of rig it.
- 2:05I don't know, but the league doesn't mind when it's Florida
- 2:07apparently. I'm not salty.
- 2:10I'm a little salty, Yeah, it's. I don't think he's actually
- 2:15gonna be that relevant for fantasy this year at all.
- 2:17He used to be amazing. He was like a fringe first round
- 2:20pick. But it doesn't really change
- 2:22much for me. The other guys were talking
- 2:25about like, I think it'll be a bit interesting.
- 2:26But for him, like of these top three signings, I think he's
- 2:30probably the biggest fade because Florida is just so good.
- 2:34That's good. Yeah, I agree.
- 2:36If by chance to Chuck is injured going into the season, which is
- 2:40a possibility because. Yeah, really.
- 2:42Beaten up in the playoffs, then maybe he could have a bigger
- 2:44role, but for now I just think he's gonna be a third line
- 2:47player. Good for depth and not much
- 2:49going on for fantasy. Yeah, let's just say he's gonna
- 2:52be Line 3, Power Play 2 and 37 years old.
- 2:54I mean. Let me put it this way, the
- 2:58Cliff with Nick Suzuki. Yeah, I'm.
- 3:00Not saving Brad Marshan. Wait, definitely butchered that
- 3:04quote. So absolutely, I gotta let Josh
- 3:07do it. But I have I have a would you
- 3:09rather which I'm way better at than making mixes quotes.
- 3:13If Nix is Brad Marshall are hanging out on a Cliff, would
- 3:17you have a good old time who makes the first move like.
- 3:23Sorry, obviously Marshall likes Suzuki.
- 3:27Lick Suzuki. Wow.
- 3:30OK. My question is, would you rather
- 3:33Brad Marshan or Chris Kreider? Crider.
- 3:37Good question, I would choose Crider, just think he has a much
- 3:40bigger chance to succeed on Anaheim and like Marshall is way
- 3:43too buried here. But that that switches to chucks
- 3:46out and then he plays with. Bennett I still I still don't
- 3:49think that could Chuck being out moves the Marsh on needle
- 3:52because Marshall is not the next guideline for power play one.
- 3:55He's the 2nd next guy in line for power play 1.
- 3:57So The thing is that if Ketchup gets injured for Hagee slash,
- 4:02Bennett, whichever one was not already on power play one will
- 4:05get the bump. So Marshall still not making it
- 4:07unless two people get injured. So to me, I'm not touching him
- 4:11with a 10 foot pole. Pretty fair, but he has a better
- 4:15515 opportunity, that's the thing.
- 4:17I mean, there's also some Miskovich who was randomly good
- 4:20last year. True.
- 4:21Yeah, but yeah. Alright, Kevin, go for your
- 4:24second of three. Brad Marshan or Logan's
- 4:28Yankovic? Stankovic, but good question.
- 4:31Honestly, I don't think about my team move in over Marshall.
- 4:35You know what? You're gonna get more with
- 4:37Marshawn. Safer, but it's more fun with
- 4:39Stankovic. OK.
- 4:41Will Cooley or Brad Marshan? Cooley obviously OK, OK Anna
- 4:45bangers league and a non bangers I'm not taking either.
- 4:47Taking the pulse on the wheel, Cooley, I feel Cool is gonna
- 4:50have more value than you had last year.
- 4:51Spoiler that's coming up. Don't worry, I had to throw with
- 4:57JQ Bone. Thanks.
- 5:00You're right. Let's go.
- 5:01To think we all agree that Marshawn's not not very fantasy
- 5:04relevant this year. Yeah, next of the three Florida
- 5:07Panthers signing, they signed Sam Bennett, Consummate winner
- 5:09to an 8 by 8 mil contract. We spoke about this in Part 2 of
- 5:14last week's trades episode. This was the one that got away.
- 5:18For most of us. It was like the one that we
- 5:20would have wanted to see traded to a different team.
- 5:22I think he could have been a huge, impactful player anywhere,
- 5:25but he's just succeeded so much with them, especially in the
- 5:28playoffs this past year. I would not expect Bennett to
- 5:31produce anywhere near what he did in these playoffs.
- 5:34I think it's literally impossible.
- 5:36He also just played better in those playoffs than he's ever
- 5:40done in his entire career. But I do think that he could be
- 5:43better than he was last year and he's definitely a great pick for
- 5:46bangers. Yeah.
- 5:48Yeah, I feel like he was, you know, the 2C on this free agency
- 5:52market that most teams were chasing after.
- 5:56But I mean, why would he sign anywhere else when you know his
- 5:58family is there? He just went back-to-back cups.
- 6:00He likes the team, he loves the city won the cons might like he
- 6:05he just like completely had a resurgence from his career
- 6:09moving to Florida and he just went back-to-back cops like he
- 6:11was going to do everything in his power to sign there.
- 6:13All that at 18 years old, Yeah. Even if you had to take a
- 6:18discount. So I mean, I think he's gonna be
- 6:21a great player for you know, bangers leagues once again.
- 6:25Does he have upside finally cracking that P1?
- 6:28I think honestly, it might be on the table this year.
- 6:31I feel this is the best chance gonna get because I don't see
- 6:34Florida running 2D's on the 1st power play unit and if
- 6:37constructs injured, I feel like there's too many open spaces
- 6:39there for him to feel that. I can easily see it being like,
- 6:42you know, Reinhart Barkov, Seth Jones E or explanation of Seth
- 6:48Jones. Yeah, I got.
- 6:49Everything if ketchup is out. Yeah, you know, if he's not out
- 6:54though, I think Bennett's gonna be power play 1 like you were
- 6:56saying. Like I don't think it's gonna be
- 6:584D and I think at least they're gonna try to start them off
- 7:01there. Don't know if it's gonna.
- 7:03I think it's gonna be over, even though obviously for Hagy has
- 7:06the shot. He's like a better.
- 7:08Point guard kind of fell out of favor with them though last year
- 7:10and they even had the trade him, so I don't know if they're
- 7:13gonna. Let the guy there.
- 7:14The opportunity again or if they're just gonna, you know,
- 7:16try to move on again this year. I just mean, you have to ride
- 7:18the hive from what Bennett did this playoffs, which was
- 7:20remarkable. So I think they're gonna give
- 7:22him that opportunity. It might, but we also didn't
- 7:24wanna, you know, overuse him or like, put too much wear and tear
- 7:27on the tires and use him for what he does best.
- 7:30And it's kind of like that guy. Don't wanna play against kind of
- 7:33like that Brad Marshan, but just younger.
- 7:35Yeah, The way I see it is, first of all, floor wise, he's going
- 7:39to get you 4050 points and he's going to be very good at
- 7:42bangers. So in any banger league, you're
- 7:44very happy to get him. Obviously the question is where
- 7:46you grab him in the draft, but he's always going to be someone
- 7:47you're happy to have on your team.
- 7:49And then it's like we mentioned with the power play.
- 7:51One upside, there's the fact that he's coming off the
- 7:53constant with an amazing playoffs.
- 7:54There's the fact that Chuck might be injured.
- 7:56There's the fact for Hagee is no longer in favor with the team.
- 7:58So he this is the best shot he'll ever get a power play one
- 8:01if he gets it, obviously that's a huge boost, but even without
- 8:04it, he's still very solid guy to have on your team.
- 8:06I will say the one potential way of him not getting it even with
- 8:10Kuchuk. Well, I guess no.
- 8:11OK, if Ketchup's injured, I think Ben, it's 100% on power
- 8:13play one. Let's say Chucks healthy, then
- 8:16it's going to be Chuck Barkov, Reinhart, Ekblad, slash Jones,
- 8:19whatever. We can discuss that after.
- 8:21But that fifth spot, like we had mentioned a second ago, Mackie
- 8:23Samutsevich might sneak in and take that even if he's not the
- 8:26guy. So, and I don't think that's
- 8:28crazy. They were doing that towards the
- 8:29end of last season over Bennett. Yeah, OK.
- 8:32Let me let me give you 1. Would you rather in bangers
- 8:36leagues? Would you rather Sam Bennett or
- 8:37Dylan Cousins? I'm taking cousins.
- 8:44Well, you have to think about it.
- 8:45Though that was no, that's a good one.
- 8:46These are. Both guys, it's so happy and
- 8:48everyone like. Very, very.
- 8:50You're not gonna be upset with either one, but I think Cousins
- 8:53has a much clearer shot at power play. 1 and.
- 8:56Then hits. The hits he was throwing after
- 8:59getting traded, we're just unreal.
- 9:00She's she's like I, I definitely want him on my team again.
- 9:04I'm putting it out there. Having his value go up in the
- 9:08middle of the year was, was huge for my fantasy team.
- 9:10So I'm sure it's probably going to go way up as well.
- 9:12But if I can get him again, I'll be thrilled.
- 9:14Yeah, I think we're all in agreement that we would be very
- 9:16happy to have him on our team. So we'll see which one of us
- 9:18ends up with him. I do think though that I mean,
- 9:23if to Chuck's healthy coming into this year, Bennett is
- 9:26playing with the Chuck, whereas Cousins is not playing with
- 9:28anyone of that caliber, which is something to keep in mind.
- 9:31But nevertheless, like, yeah, I'm with you.
- 9:33It's Cousins, but it's probably closer for me than it is for
- 9:36you. Cousins might literally end up
- 9:38also playing with Chuck. Hilarious.
- 9:42That's true. Actually, that's true.
- 9:44Yeah, I'm. I'm picking cousins.
- 9:46That's a good one, Kevin, though.
- 9:47Let's see about going. To Yeah, next Florida signing.
- 9:51All right, final Florida signing for this episode is this is
- 9:54actually the biggest discount I think they got.
- 9:56Florida Panthers signed Aaron Ekblad to an 8 * 6.1 mil
- 9:59contract. This guy passed up.
- 10:01He was. He could have gotten like 910
- 10:03mil. On open.
- 10:04Market and he passed up on that just to stay in the place he
- 10:07loves. Can't can't fault him for that.
- 10:09But like, that's crazy. It's also where he was drafted,
- 10:12so I don't know. He's finally he was.
- 10:14He was drafted there when they weren't great, and now he's
- 10:16finally like reaping the reaping the rewards.
- 10:19Of. Graduation.
- 10:20I get it from his point of view, it's just nuts like how great
- 10:23the organization is doing that someone's willing to take A4 mil
- 10:26discount to stay on the team. Really the fact that they won
- 10:30the Cup again and had the opportunity to go back-to-back
- 10:32to back is a big reason why some of these guys are taking like
- 10:36steep discounts. I mean, we are, we don't have to
- 10:39mention like the no tax state or whatever because like, you know,
- 10:41they've always been no tax state.
- 10:43So I don't know how that's always, you know, coming to play
- 10:45before, but now that they're winning, it obviously adds to
- 10:48it. I, I don't, I don't know much I
- 10:50don't like, I don't think there's much to say for fantasy.
- 10:52I feel like if he keeps like P1, if he keeps that P1, it's it's
- 10:57great, right? But we saw last year he was
- 10:59mobbed off multiple times. So I just don't know if it's
- 11:02going to stick. If he starts P1 I think he'll be
- 11:05like a top 20 defenseman, but we just don't see that that that
- 11:08defenseman on the power play be like the most fantasy relevant
- 11:11to be honest. I mean, we all know he's got a
- 11:14one big competition on that team and that's you Visible Anskis,
- 11:18so. I was going to say Jeff Petry.
- 11:22Humans. No, obviously it's a it's a quad
- 11:26versus Jones for that powerfully one quarterback.
- 11:28And I'm kind of nervous about taking either of them because I
- 11:31don't wanna be stuck holding the one that doesn't have the power
- 11:34play 1. I don't know.
- 11:35I personally don't think like I know Jones has been decent for
- 11:37back cats, but like I don't really want either of them if
- 11:40they're not the power play one guy.
- 11:41I don't know how you guys feel. I think if it's me going into
- 11:44fantasy drafts next year, I'm going to be looking at getting
- 11:47Seth Jones at value because I think he's going to be drafted
- 11:51after ironic blood. And I think Jones has already
- 11:54better category coverage, which sets the foundation and he has
- 11:57the upside of getting the P1 spot.
- 11:59So I think you get Jones out of more fair price.
- 12:02He always has the, you know, the potential of getting that spot
- 12:04throughout the year, even if it doesn't start with it.
- 12:06And that's the kind of player that I'd rather have on my team.
- 12:10I don't want to pay over air neck blood.
- 12:12If you don't get the people one, he's way more useless.
- 12:14He doesn't have the category coverage.
- 12:17I'm going Jones for sure over at Glad.
- 12:19I don't believe that Ekblad's necessarily their first choice
- 12:25for a power play one guy. Two years ago, Montour was their
- 12:28power play one guy on Florida over Ekblad, and it's just
- 12:32because he left that Ekblad had the opportunity.
- 12:34I think what happened with him truly is that they picked him
- 12:36first overall that year and they've been married to the idea
- 12:39of having him succeed. And in real life, he's obviously
- 12:42been very impactful, but I think it's a total fade for fantasy.
- 12:46Maybe I'm too low on him and that's why I'm kind of more pro
- 12:50Jones, but I think that as soon as they have another guy who can
- 12:53succeed and also, you know, Barkoff, such a good defensive
- 12:55forward, they could just put 5 forwards on that first power
- 12:58play and I wouldn't be surprised.
- 13:00Nevertheless, I think Jones is a decent guy, especially if people
- 13:03are going to undervalue him because of this Ekblad contract.
- 13:07Yeah. I mean personally I think I'm
- 13:09avoiding both of them but but I think everything I said makes a
- 13:12lot of sense. Yep.
- 13:14Alright, let's move on to the next siding, which I think is
- 13:17very interesting. This is a big one.
- 13:20Toronto Maple Leaf signed Matthew Nice to a 6 * 7.75 mil
- 13:24contract. I think this is steel.
- 13:26Yeah, I I agree steel, especially after losing Marner
- 13:30and I feel like I feel like nice has leverage at that point
- 13:32because, you know, they're they're not resigning one of
- 13:34their best wingers knives kind of take up the mantle.
- 13:37Like he could obviously ask for more money, I think, but he does
- 13:41a good thing. He takes a reasonable discount
- 13:45and I think it's going to be great for fantasy next year.
- 13:48I'm really curious to see where his ADP falls.
- 13:52So high like so like early I think.
- 13:54You think it's gonna be really high?
- 13:56High as in like early in the draft?
- 13:58I think so because. Early in the draft.
- 14:01I could see him. You have to wear white.
- 14:04Johnston got drafted last. That's exactly what I was
- 14:06thinking in our draft, why Johnson got drafted fifth round
- 14:09and I could see a nice doing that.
- 14:10And that was like around her tour ahead of ADP.
- 14:12Yeah, first of all, there's a ton of Leafs fans, so that skews
- 14:16it a lot, right? Same as with the Habs players,
- 14:19like their ADP is always a bit higher than it should be, but
- 14:21also like the hype of Marner leaving him, signing this
- 14:24contract, how unreal his playoffs and end of season were,
- 14:27especially in Bangers league. He's gonna get to pick super
- 14:30early and honestly, I think it's gonna be worth it.
- 14:32I think in Bangers League specifically, he's going to be
- 14:34worth what his cause is going to be because we don't really see
- 14:37many walking double double s. And I feel like Noises just like
- 14:40slowly fell into that situation where he's one of the only like
- 14:44elite guys that's getting you know, over two hits, over 2
- 14:47shots a game. He's going to be Matthews's main
- 14:50guy right now. So that's a good spot to be.
- 14:52I feel like he's set up for success.
- 14:54He has a contract now. They're committed to him.
- 14:56I think he's going to be a beast.
- 14:58Yeah, I agree very high on him. Yeah, I definitely like it too.
- 15:03I think I'd probably avoid if people are super high on him.
- 15:07I don't know if I would pick him where Johnson was picked last
- 15:09year. I mean, double, double is
- 15:12massive. Everybody's happy with that.
- 15:14Of course. I just, there's a certain aspect
- 15:18of how a player is gonna change his habits if he needs to become
- 15:20the skilled guy. Now, you're never really gonna
- 15:23be a double double with 80 points.
- 15:25Like that's extremely rare. It's really only Brady to Chuck
- 15:27who does that type of stuff. So if he keeps up the physical
- 15:30play, I'd expect his offence to regress a little bit.
- 15:33But if he, maybe he'll adopt more into a skill position.
- 15:37But I think there's gonna be somewhat of a tradeoff.
- 15:39I have no good would you rather for you?
- 15:41Yeah, few knives next season or Andres Technika V.
- 15:45Nice. Nice, easy.
- 15:47Yeah, yeah, I'm never taking off again.
- 15:50OK, I have one more. I have one too.
- 15:53I have one I. Smoke it.
- 15:54Matthew Nyes or Marty Natures. Nice.
- 15:58Oh, there we go. I split the difference.
- 16:00Just see, this is where I'm like, OK, I'm convinced that
- 16:03nature can get 80 points no problem, and I think now is
- 16:05gonna get like 60. Nicely get more than 60 points.
- 16:08I think I think the difference is gonna be smarter than you
- 16:11think. I think nature gets more points
- 16:12but the back cats more than makes up for it in nicest favor.
- 16:15I think nature gets like 90 plus I think Nice can get like 70 to
- 16:2080 and he'll the shots will probably be similar.
- 16:24But you know, Nice gets over two shot, O2 hits more a game.
- 16:28Yeah. Nice or Slomkowski?
- 16:33That's a good one. Yeah, myself.
- 16:38Let's go. I.
- 16:39Think I think I have to take knives.
- 16:41I would take Slough. My heart says Slaugh, but my
- 16:45mind says Nah is. I also want to take Slaugh.
- 16:49I feel like Slap could be the same as Nice this year, but I
- 16:52just feel like I saw it from Nice throughout the whole season
- 16:54last year. So he's safer.
- 16:58The slave have a higher ceiling. A slave could get like 5 blocks
- 17:02a game. OK let's not.
- 17:04That's true. Yeah, he does randomly block a
- 17:06lot. Yeah, what about Nice or
- 17:09Holloway? I think OHS super, which
- 17:13Holloway are we getting? Are we getting Holloway from
- 17:14like last 30 games of the season last year?
- 17:16Are we getting Holloway that like is?
- 17:18Normal. It's the same thing with nice
- 17:19right? He only really popped off last
- 17:21like 30 games. Yeah, I think, I think I have to
- 17:27take the shot on Matthew Nyes, who's playing with with.
- 17:31With. Awesome Matthews and knowing
- 17:34that that's one of the best players in the league and he's
- 17:36attached to him. Well, that's a good one though.
- 17:39All the way Holloway, his centre is now push shooter and I'm not
- 17:42sure if he's going to be set up the same way.
- 17:45That's a great one though because you know Holloway was a
- 17:47banger league stud last year. Like you won leagues?
- 17:51Yeah. I'm really nice playing with
- 17:55Matthews, but really, really quick on that.
- 17:58Like Holloway to me is gonna probably go two or three rounds
- 18:01later ADP. So I'd rather, I think
- 18:04personally. So I'd rather take Holloway
- 18:05there than where he's gonna go. But one for one who I'd actually
- 18:09rather. Yeah, nice.
- 18:11Definitely go with that. OK, next we've got Vancouver
- 18:15Canucks sign Brock Besser to 7 * 7.25 mil contract.
- 18:19I think he has the best flow in the league.
- 18:22He's. Overpaid.
- 18:24It's it's yeah, but have you seen his hair?
- 18:28Fair. That was an extra bill right
- 18:30there for the. Hair.
- 18:30Exactly. Building on a change, we're also
- 18:35paying. You've had their cage.
- 18:38Yeah, honestly, I'm kind of avoiding the Canucks in general
- 18:41this year. I think they're gonna suck
- 18:44better. I think is a bit overhyped,
- 18:46especially like if Peterson's gonna keep being bad then Peters
- 18:49gonna. Suffer, I don't know not.
- 18:51That type on. Him I just feel like, you know,
- 18:53this Vancouver team is like going to be one of the five
- 18:55worst teams in the league, but also we're discounting them so
- 18:59hard that they may end up being values.
- 19:01Like like don't forget Elias Pettersson was like a second
- 19:04round pick last year and mostly agues and now he just fell off
- 19:07the face of the earth. Like that doesn't just happen
- 19:09overnight. I mean, Besser was arguably one
- 19:12of the biggest fantasy busts last season as well to go along
- 19:14with Elias Patterson. So they definitely don't have
- 19:17good juju going into this year. But does that mean that they
- 19:20fall so far whether they end up being a value, like if they just
- 19:22bounce back to what they were doing like 2 years ago, when
- 19:26they're going to be a value no matter where they're drafted.
- 19:28So definitely keeping an eye on on them, especially, you know,
- 19:31because they have great deployment.
- 19:32Like better is gonna be a guy that's line 1P1 playing with the
- 19:36best players on his team. So if he goes late, like he's
- 19:40going to be a value. It's just depends where he ends
- 19:42up falling. Yeah, I mean of those two that
- 19:44you mentioned, like in that vein, I love targeting guys who
- 19:47just had a terrible season and like going for the late value.
- 19:49I'm more interested in person for that than Besser though,
- 19:52because better already even when he was like solid like he's not
- 19:55like that interesting in bangers leagues.
- 19:56You know, he's pretty one-dimensional.
- 19:58Peterson at least would like get some like good shots, power play
- 20:00points like face off wins from a dual eligible.
- 20:03So that's the one I'm more looking for the bounce back from
- 20:05Canucks. But in general, the team sucks
- 20:06and I'm not that enthused. Brock Besser or Jonathan
- 20:09Marshall so. That's a great one.
- 20:14I'm going to pick Besser. The reason I'm going to pick
- 20:18Besser is because, you know, honestly, as I hear you guys
- 20:22talk about this, I'm super low on the Canucks too.
- 20:24I think we all are, and understandably so.
- 20:26Nevertheless, I also think that you're gonna be able to get them
- 20:31at quite the discount, especially Peterson.
- 20:33Like he could be an amazing. Target if Yeah.
- 20:36Like around 6:00. I feel like you'll go and I'm
- 20:38going around four or five. I feel that's where he's gonna
- 20:40fall. Yeah, I mean, it's league
- 20:43subjective anyways, but if it's five round 5th or later, like
- 20:46this can be an elite player that can get you 100 points, he's
- 20:49done it. And then if he succeeds, Besser
- 20:51succeeds. So it could be one of those
- 20:53things that I think the Vancouver guy in your league is
- 20:55gonna draft him higher than they should.
- 20:56But this is my long winded way of saying I would rather Besser,
- 21:00especially because I think that his ceiling is higher than
- 21:03Marsha ASOS. OK.
- 21:05One more, I'll go with the besser as well.
- 21:07Actually like Marceau's back, that's a lot better, but better
- 21:10is a clear line. One power play, one March.
- 21:12So could get bumped off those with how Nashville has more
- 21:15people that are kind of relevant.
- 21:18Lost 1 Brock Besser or J Peterka.
- 21:22Peterka Ohm. Maybe because. 12P2.
- 21:27Yeah, you know what? I have just so much more hype on
- 21:30Utah, but Besser spot is so much safer than Peterka's.
- 21:34Like in terms of deployment. I don't know.
- 21:36What do you think, Jake? Jonathan.
- 21:38Jonathan Butterfly. Not Jonathan to be going.
- 21:43Brock Besser, I think I just like the deployment.
- 21:47I feel like he's gonna get more minutes and he he's known to be
- 21:51a shooter, like he could hover around three shots a game, but
- 21:54they're a has done that before. But he was also playing better
- 21:56minutes. So I, I just don't know what to
- 21:58expect, but I feel like feel like for where you're going to
- 22:00draft something better will be a value.
- 22:02Yeah, I'll give you better. I just feel like the deployment
- 22:04is more secured there. Utah has so many good players
- 22:07that can be on power play, one that Patricia could get bumped
- 22:09off. I'm gonna go besser too.
- 22:11It's a good. It's a good one, though, Kevin.
- 22:13Let's move on to the next. Alright, this is my favorite
- 22:17one. Gonna get your piggy banks out?
- 22:21We have to start. That this year go.
- 22:23For it. You gonna do that?
- 22:24By the way, this has been established.
- 22:26We're going to be putting $0.05 into the jar every time we say
- 22:30his name. Same.
- 22:32On that note, Winnipeg Jets sign Gabe the Babe.
- 22:38Hilarity to a six point 7.5 mil contract.
- 22:42It is officially a Velardi party.
- 22:44Drinks are on him, he can afford it.
- 22:46This is hype. Yeah, yeah, it's it.
- 22:49Is it worth taking you up on that game?
- 22:51So how high are you drafting him this year, Josh?
- 22:54Oh my. God, he has a contract to back
- 22:56up his performing. High.
- 22:58I always say this and I've been saying it for years.
- 23:00All of the money, you know. And.
- 23:07I, I love this this this acquisition, honestly.
- 23:11I mean, it's signing. It's really, really good.
- 23:14He's gonna play a huge role on this team that's super top heavy
- 23:20and he's just gonna return, I think on your draft this year.
- 23:24I don't know if he's gonna fall. I mean, some people may just
- 23:27forget about him. Clearly not us or our listeners,
- 23:29because he's all we ever talk about are the Wags have a have
- 23:34some trouble with it. And especially when I wake up at
- 23:37night saying Velardi. OK, anyways.
- 23:39But yeah, realistically, I expect him to have a very, very
- 23:44good season. And I think that this was it's
- 23:48big. That's big money.
- 23:49So I think that I think they're gonna be happy with him and
- 23:52we're gonna be happy owning him and fantasy.
- 23:54Alright, now it's my turn. I just feel.
- 23:58Like. Would you rather have to set it
- 24:03up first? I just believe it is one of
- 24:06those guys that has like no category coverage, but we'll get
- 24:09you points or zeros. So you gotta be, you gotta know
- 24:11you're getting yourself into. But obviously like he's taking a
- 24:14step up in recent years, like he's a young guy, like he's
- 24:16coming into his own. But would you rather draft him
- 24:18over Alexis Lafreniere? Yeah, I'm taking polarity over
- 24:22laugh. There you go, I the difference
- 24:24once again I. I just want to finally draft
- 24:29laugh when he's gonna be good. Like I just wanna see it happen.
- 24:33I like and look laugh not to references starts in the queue,
- 24:40but he was supposed to be elite. He was clearly not, and I think
- 24:44that laughs does now have that high ceiling without critter
- 24:46there. Nevertheless, I obviously he's a
- 24:50safer bet. But you're right though, his
- 24:52back hats is what's kind of like off putting above already,
- 24:54especially in a category bangers league.
- 24:56That's why I would choose left, but it's.
- 24:58Close. I'm actually surprised you went.
- 25:00Actually, I'm not surprised because it is Vilardi, but.
- 25:03Do. You pick Evan my main reasoning
- 25:05reasoning for not going laugh because I am very high on him,
- 25:08but it's just I don't think his power play one spot is secure if
- 25:12we look at their. Top Who's taking that spot?
- 25:15OK, let me let me tell you, yeah.
- 25:17And he just got paid. Let me let me tell you just.
- 25:20Taking the money? Drop it.
- 25:21Yeah, it's gonna be right now. Right now, Laugh is gonna have
- 25:25to work hard to bump one of these guys off.
- 25:26You've got Miller, Panarin, Fox, I think we all agree.
- 25:29Are the three locks, right? Like none of them are getting
- 25:32bumped off. And then that leaves Trocheck
- 25:35and Sabotage out, in my opinion. Have a step up on Laugh right
- 25:37now. It's not agree with that.
- 25:40It's not like I think laugh gets it, you know, but Velardi, we
- 25:44know for a fact he's line on power play one.
- 25:46There's no doubt Laugh obviously has the bigger upside because of
- 25:49his back cats. But even with power play 1, I
- 25:51think Hillary gets more points than laugh.
- 25:53I don't know what you guys think.
- 25:54I think the big difference is the back cats and and that's why
- 25:58where laugh has the higher upside.
- 25:59If you're certain he gets power play 1.
- 26:01Bullard is more of a safe bet in that's in the.
- 26:03Points I can get behind that I could get like I.
- 26:05Think you're right mind. I see laugh as like 85% of
- 26:09Matthew is. But Nice has the guaranteed spot
- 26:13and he's playing with like Matthews, like shotgun.
- 26:16Not that that. Is in the same convo of like
- 26:19this next generation of like power forwards, like he doesn't
- 26:22hit as much as the other guys, but like I I see him like in my
- 26:25head, I see him as like, you know, Matthew, I Slavkov ski
- 26:28like I I I see him in the same kind of like realm as those
- 26:31guys. And fully agree skillwise.
- 26:33They they, they paid him. He's a spot opened up.
- 26:38He's going to take it, I think. And if he keeps it, I feel like
- 26:41the ceiling is really high on this Rangers roster.
- 26:44Yeah, I agree with the ceiling. I agree with the back hats.
- 26:46I still think Hillary gets more points even if Laugh has power,
- 26:49play one. But if Laugh has power play one,
- 26:51he'll be a better all around player.
- 26:53But that's a big if to me. Whereas with Velardi I have no
- 26:55doubts. Yeah, that's why.
- 26:58If none of us draft already, then how are we gonna mention
- 27:01him every episode? True, true.
- 27:05That's where. That's where the money lies.
- 27:07Alright, let's go to the next one.
- 27:10All right, this one's for you, Jakey.
- 27:12The New York Rangers sign will cool.
- 27:15How's that sound? Level of.
- 27:20This was the best pickup of the year that I totally thought
- 27:23about doing myself right from the get go.
- 27:25Yeah, definitely wasn't suggested by Kevin on our first
- 27:27morning session. Immediately sniped.
- 27:31By sniped you mean I laid it on a platter and ended up making?
- 27:34The move? What about Coolie?
- 27:38Even the guy on the Utah? No, there's another one with
- 27:41interesting spelling. Yeah, yeah, they signed into,
- 27:45they signed him at 2 * 3.9 mil just.
- 27:47To finish, that's a great deal for them, for guys to be playing
- 27:50on their top six. Yeah, I feel like last year we
- 27:53saw glimpses of what he could do offensively.
- 27:55Like we just kept saying like he can't keep this up and he
- 27:58didn't. Keep getting away with it.
- 28:01It we had a beer bet about it. It was close though, actually.
- 28:04So maybe he has some more offensive capabilities than we
- 28:07think. But I think, you know, you're
- 28:09drafting this guy in your in your bangers leagues because
- 28:11he'll get you like .5 points per game, but he'll get you like
- 28:14five hits a game, which is just nuts.
- 28:17Yeah, and I think that the points can regress positively a
- 28:20little bit. You know, .5 is OK, not as floor
- 28:23as floor is. It's probably between like .4 to
- 28:26.75 and if you're getting .75 points.
- 28:29That's a lot. Like, yeah, he's not getting
- 28:31point. 75. I think he don't think you get.
- 28:3365. Points playing with Mike Miller,
- 28:38Don't think that's possible if he is that guy.
- 28:40With a 0 power play exposure it's really hard to get that
- 28:42many points. But he had a 0 power play
- 28:44exposure last year and he ended up like just under 0.65 like
- 28:48that. That was our that was our cutoff
- 28:50for the bed and he ended up at like .61.
- 28:52But he wasn't playing second line minutes either.
- 28:54So I feel like now he gets second line minutes and he's
- 28:58more of a name on this roster than just like, you know, fourth
- 29:01round, fourth line father, whatever that ends up doing well
- 29:04in certain weeks. So I actually think his ceiling
- 29:07is probably like .65 like over. Yeah, I would be shocked and
- 29:12like she'd really return on value for what he's getting
- 29:14drafted, but I feel like realistically it's over between
- 29:19.5 and .6. Yeah, I mean, regardless,
- 29:21someone who puts up the hits he does and can also contribute
- 29:24points every second game is someone that you're very happy
- 29:27to round out your roster with. And he's going to fall like
- 29:29people don't really think about him like.
- 29:31This I don't. Know unlike us.
- 29:34You know, he'll go with those big banger guys, go like
- 29:37goodness, Sherwood, like he'll be in that kind of range.
- 29:40But I would rather pick him just because like he's playing with.
- 29:44You pick him over. Players probably.
- 29:47I just think I mean it depends what I need like I.
- 29:49Understand why. Sherwood, I have never seen like
- 29:53a guy who, first of all, that's gonna regress like, that's going
- 29:57down. Second of all, I've never seen
- 29:58the guy who had the most hits one year be the guy who has the
- 30:01most hits the next year. Like, that doesn't really
- 30:03happen. So I think that Sherwood's gonna
- 30:06still be an elite hitter. No reason to think he won't be.
- 30:09But coolly also has the points upside that Trust doesn't have.
- 30:13So that's why I would just certainly rather him if I need
- 30:15the hit specifically. Yeah, sure.
- 30:16Was it safer that But if I'm going to go for a more
- 30:18well-rounded player, I'm happy picking Cooley.
- 30:20And yeah, this is one of the reasons, if you're starting to
- 30:22listen to the our episodes this early on, like, these are the
- 30:26type of guys I really don't think many people are gonna be
- 30:28thinking about going into the draft.
- 30:29And you could pick him in what, like the 14th round, coolly 16th
- 30:34round, and that would be amazing.
- 30:36Yeah, I mean, but if you ask me like would I draft?
- 30:39Would I draft him, you know, for his hits or laying around?
- 30:42I'm I would be like, I sure would, you know?
- 30:45I knew it. I was like, what's going on?
- 30:48Right now I saw I saw Josh's face and I knew what he was.
- 30:50About to say I. Knew something was coming.
- 30:53He was cooking. So confused.
- 30:56I was like, are you OK? And then you then you delivered.
- 30:59It was wonderful. All right?
- 31:01Yeah. So cool.
- 31:02Cool. Cool, anymore to stay on Cooley?
- 31:06No, I'm good. I'm I'm hype on him.
- 31:08But yeah, let's move on to our last one.
- 31:11This one I think could either be nothing or it can be very sick
- 31:17in terms of. Financing or something?
- 31:20So Philadelphia Flyers signed cameo work to 5 * 5.15 mil
- 31:25contract. And I think this is super
- 31:27interesting because if you look at what he did last past year,
- 31:31he was like scratched for like half the season and then
- 31:34Tortorella gets fired and he gets signed to a five times 5.
- 31:37This is that's an interesting, interesting sign.
- 31:40You know, it was clearly he had issues with Tortorella and now
- 31:43that he's gone, does this mean he can potentially get power
- 31:45play one? It's gonna be between him and
- 31:47Drysdale, I think. I don't know.
- 31:49Follow the money, you know. They do like Sanheim on their
- 31:52power plays as well for some reason, which I don't know why,
- 31:55but I feel like you're has, you know, when he was coming up, we
- 31:58all thought he was like the next P1 quarterback for this team.
- 32:02Drysdale obviously wasn't in the cards when that was a
- 32:05conversation. So now I feel like Drizzle is
- 32:07going to be the guy. But yeah, this is neat.
- 32:09Cause 5 mil for a guy that has done nothing in the league,
- 32:11honestly, is is a lot of money. So they're basically committing
- 32:14their future to this, to this kid.
- 32:16And he's gonna be given an opportunity, I'm sure.
- 32:18And like, you know, when it was Tortorello, the coach, I would
- 32:22not have touched it. But now I'm definitely
- 32:23intrigued. Like would you draft Cam York or
- 32:25John Klingberg? Berg To me, this is one of
- 32:29those, like you, this is an IRL contract because he's a young
- 32:34guy and he's probably like a very good defenseman.
- 32:36That just doesn't translate to fantasy.
- 32:38Drysdale's gonna have the number one chance, and if he fails then
- 32:42I think they're probably gonna default to to Sanheim over York.
- 32:47I mean last year, last year Drysdale, Sanheim, Emil Andre
- 32:52and Igor Samiullah all got shots at Power play 1.
- 32:55I don't disrespect Kamulah like that.
- 32:58I'm just saying so like, how much of that is actual based on
- 33:02York's ability and how much of that is based on Tortorella's
- 33:04hatred of him, you know? Yeah, this gives like for
- 33:08different reasons, but like, Matthias Samuelson vibes, you
- 33:12know what I mean? It's just like, wait, why did he
- 33:14get so much money? And then it's just OK, fine,
- 33:18he's helpful to have in in real life, I guess, but it's still
- 33:23not much. Like, yeah, Samuelsson 7 years,
- 33:2730,000,004.285. This is even more, you know what
- 33:30I mean? By now with the cap going up,
- 33:31it's similar vibes. I just think it's like a good
- 33:33IRL contract for them to have this.
- 33:35Not going to translate for fantasy.
- 33:36You don't see them getting. Everyone, no, I don't see him
- 33:40getting power play one off the bat, but between now and the
- 33:43start of the season, anything can happen obviously.
- 33:44So we'll definitely monitor the situation, but I feel like one
- 33:47of those guys that maybe, you know, develops value over the
- 33:50course of the season and become somebody that you can put into
- 33:53your lineups. But I I probably not drafting
- 33:55him like even in my 22 round draft.
- 33:58Yeah, I think this is a good it's a good watch list unless
- 34:01you start looking at the preseason lines and see they're
- 34:03playing in power play one in practice and stuff like that, in
- 34:05which case I definitely would draft him if he was power play
- 34:071. I think for you guys, I think
- 34:10it's gonna be Drysdale to start the season.
- 34:13I don't know if you guys agree with that, but that's what
- 34:15that's my opinion on that power play.
- 34:16But I think just the contract stood out to me.
- 34:18That's why I thought it was worth mentioning.
- 34:20Just it felt he literally got scratched for half of last
- 34:23season. So to for him to get signed a 5
- 34:25by 5 out of nowhere, it made me think oh maybe they actually are
- 34:28invested in this kid and they see him as part of their future.
- 34:31Obviously sometimes defensemen are just good at defence, which
- 34:34isn't the best fantasy, but I think it's just something to
- 34:37keep an eye on. That's the problem with these
- 34:39contracts with defenseman. It's like, OK, what does this
- 34:41mean, especially when they're young and you don't know much
- 34:44yet. And also, for what it's worth,
- 34:48not sold on Drysdale by any means, but he was picked one
- 34:51pick behind Sanderson in the 2020 draft and obviously he's
- 34:55not returned value like. Yeah, but York was picked really
- 34:59treated for Cofield in 2019. OK.
- 35:03Yeah. I just mean, like he was
- 35:06supposed to be like the second elite defenseman on draft, and
- 35:09clearly it's just not happening right now.
- 35:11But I do think they're going to at least give him the
- 35:13opportunity. The Flyers are a fun team.
- 35:15They're a really good team to have fantasy assets on this
- 35:19year, I think as a lot of them are gonna be undervalued.
- 35:21But York is probably the third defenseman I'm picking from
- 35:24here. OK, maybe Sealer with the pigs
- 35:28and symbol look as Kevin likes him and worked out last time he
- 35:31recommended Cooley. Have you heard it here first?
- 35:34Everybody pick up. Igors and Mullah first round.
- 35:37Face Yeah, yeah, we'll see, though I think it's more of an
- 35:40IRL thing. Long story short.
- 35:41Yeah. All right.
- 35:44So I think that that wraps up our signings.
- 35:46Obviously it's still early in the offseason or mid in the off
- 35:49season because the more stuff can happen.
- 35:52It has been a mid offseason, yeah.
- 35:55But yeah, more stuff could happen, but I'd expect it to be
- 35:58quiet until closer to to the season.
- 36:01But whenever anything happens, you know who's gonna be there?
- 36:05These guys. You're right, these guys are
