- 0:00Speaker 1: We inherited the worst border in American history by far,
- 0:04Speaker 1: and we turned it into the strongest and most secure
- 0:07Speaker 1: border in the history of our country. And in the past,
- 0:10Speaker 1: a number just came out a couple of days ago,
- 0:13Speaker 1: in the past 17 months, zero illegal aliens have been
- 0:17Speaker 1: admitted into the United States through our settlements.
- 0:22Speaker 2: You're listening to the 47 Morning Update with Ben Ferguson.
- 0:25Speaker 3: Good Monday morning. Nice to have you with us on
- 0:27Speaker 3: the 47 Morning Update. Can you believe it? We're two
- 0:29Speaker 3: weeks away from Election Day. The midterms are just around
- 0:33Speaker 3: the corner and President Trump is on the campaign trail.
- 0:36Speaker 3: The good news is it seems to be having a
- 0:38Speaker 3: big impact. And that means that Republican candidates, well, the
- 0:42Speaker 3: polls are getting a lot closer. We break it all
- 0:44Speaker 3: down for you and you're going to know exactly where
- 0:47Speaker 3: we stand. But before we get to that, a flag
- 0:50Speaker 3: can say what words sometimes can't. We remember, we stand
- 0:54Speaker 3: with you, and you're not alone. Well, this year, the
- 0:57Speaker 3: International Fellowship of Christians and Jews brought that message to
- 1:00Speaker 3: the world through its third annual Flags of Fellowship Initiative.
- 1:05Speaker 3: More than 4,300 churches, synagogues, and universities across 17 different countries—
- 1:10Speaker 3: participated planting over 5 million Israeli flags to remember the
- 1:15Speaker 3: lives lost on October 7th and stand with the Jewish people.
- 1:18Speaker 3: I want you to think about that. Millions of flags,
- 1:20Speaker 3: one powerful promise. We will not turn our backs. And
- 1:24Speaker 3: the promise must continue long after the flags come down.
- 1:28Speaker 3: For someone who's hungry, frightened, or in need of medical care,
- 1:31Speaker 3: Your support makes that promise very real. Your gift today
- 1:36Speaker 3: helps deliver lifesaving food, shelter, and medical aid to the
- 1:39Speaker 3: most vulnerable through the fellowship. It brings the help and
- 1:42Speaker 3: the hope of knowing that Americans stand with Israel and
- 1:45Speaker 3: the Jewish people. Let them know they have not been forgotten.
- 1:50Speaker 3: Let them see that our commitment reaches beyond the flags.
- 1:54Speaker 3: Visit www.joinfof.org and you can give today that's joinfof.org it's
- 2:05Speaker 3: a 47 morning update and it starts.
- 2:06Speaker 4: Right now story number one president trump.
- 2:09Speaker 3: Is hitting the campaign trail republicans are seeing an opportunity
- 2:15Speaker 3: as the midterm battleground is tightening moving in favor of
- 2:19Speaker 3: conservative candidates Yes, the midterm elections are just weeks away,
- 2:24Speaker 3: and President Donald Trump is doing something that could have, well,
- 2:27Speaker 3: have enormous consequences for the balance of power in Washington.
- 2:32Speaker 3: He's doing what he does when he's on the ballot,
- 2:34Speaker 3: hitting the campaign trail day and night. He's taking his
- 2:38Speaker 3: message directly to voters in some of the most important
- 2:41Speaker 3: battleground states in America. Now, this matters because for months,
- 2:45Speaker 3: Republicans and Democrats have been fighting over control of Congress,
- 2:49Speaker 3: and Democrats had the advantage. They believe they had a
- 2:52Speaker 3: real opportunity to capitalize on dissatisfaction with the party in power,
- 2:56Speaker 3: specifically over the price of the pump.
- 2:59Speaker 4: That's what it boiled down to.
- 3:01Speaker 3: But then they also showed how crazy they are with
- 3:04Speaker 3: their El Saeed and their Tallarico candidates. And that is
- 3:08Speaker 3: now maybe become one of the biggest nightmares for Democrats
- 3:12Speaker 3: heading into Election Day. Now, early voting in several states
- 3:15Speaker 3: has already started. And many Republicans, including the president, believe that, well,
- 3:20Speaker 3: they can overcome the traditional midterm disadvantage by turning out
- 3:23Speaker 3: the votes of those or the voters, I should say,
- 3:26Speaker 3: who helped send Donald Trump back to the White House. Now,
- 3:30Speaker 3: the polls in several competitive races have showed just how
- 3:33Speaker 3: close the fight for Congress is. There's a critical distinction,
- 3:37Speaker 3: by the way, between a race tightening and a candidate
- 3:40Speaker 3: becoming the favorite. Republicans are therefore using this strategy. They're
- 3:46Speaker 3: hoping that Trump's involvement can turn competitive races into victories. Now,
- 3:51Speaker 3: the president's making the case that this election is about
- 3:55Speaker 3: far more than the names appearing on the ballot. He's
- 3:59Speaker 3: making it about whether voters want Congress to continue advancing
- 4:02Speaker 3: his agenda or put Democrats in a position to challenge
- 4:06Speaker 3: it and also to weaponize the government to go after
- 4:08Speaker 3: him and his entire cabinet. So why is Trump really
- 4:12Speaker 3: back on the campaign trail? Well, let's start with the
- 4:15Speaker 3: political reality. Midterm elections are historically extremely difficult for the
- 4:20Speaker 3: party that controls the White House to win. In fact,
- 4:23Speaker 3: it's only happened two times, only once in my lifetime.
- 4:26Speaker 3: Voters often use these elections to, well, do checks and
- 4:29Speaker 3: balances on power. And also, usually the party that lost
- 4:32Speaker 3: last time is more inspired to be frustrated and with
- 4:35Speaker 3: the party that is in power, a.k.a. this time it
- 4:37Speaker 3: would be Donald Trump, and so therefore they're more likely
- 4:40Speaker 3: to show up and vote. Now, Republicans obviously have a
- 4:45Speaker 3: serious challenge. Just what I talked about has nothing to
- 4:48Speaker 3: do with Donald Trump.
- 4:49Speaker 4: That's just history we're talking about.
- 4:52Speaker 3: But you also have people that are frustrated with the economy,
- 4:54Speaker 3: or really gas prices, and the cost of food and
- 4:57Speaker 3: basic services, which have gone up because gas prices have
- 5:01Speaker 3: gone up. Now, Republicans have to convince Americans, and really
- 5:06Speaker 3: this is Donald Trump, that keeping Republicans in control of
- 5:09Speaker 3: Congress will produce better results than handing power over to
- 5:14Speaker 3: the radical Marxist socialists and communists. And that's really where
- 5:18Speaker 3: Donald Trump comes in. Trump has, well, demonstrated an extraordinary
- 5:23Speaker 3: ability to command media attention and mobilize his supporters.
- 5:27Speaker 4: When he holds a.
- 5:28Speaker 3: Rally, no one can fill the room in politics like
- 5:31Speaker 3: President Donald Trump. the national political conversation instantly shifts towards
- 5:38Speaker 3: whatever he's saying on stage.
- 5:40Speaker 4: And he knows that.
- 5:42Speaker 3: By the way, when Donald Trump visits the state, he
- 5:43Speaker 3: can generate attention for candidates who otherwise might struggle to
- 5:46Speaker 3: break through the national news cycle. And when he tells
- 5:49Speaker 3: supporters that an election matters, Republican campaigns hope those voters
- 5:55Speaker 3: will show up. Now, here's the challenge. The electorate, in
- 6:00Speaker 3: a midterm election isn't necessarily the same as those in
- 6:05Speaker 3: a presidential election. Some Americans who enthusiastically voted for Donald
- 6:11Speaker 3: Trump don't always participate in congressional races when his name
- 6:14Speaker 3: isn't actually on the ballot.
- 6:16Speaker 4: That's why Donald Trump's out there. Republicans need those votes.
- 6:20Speaker 3: And that's what Donald Trump's central objective in the campaign
- 6:24Speaker 3: trail seems to be. He's trying to convince his supporters
- 6:27Speaker 3: that even though he isn't running on the ballot this November,
- 6:31Speaker 3: his agenda is. In other words, if you voted for
- 6:34Speaker 3: Donald Trump for four years of America first, you've got
- 6:37Speaker 3: one more vote to make to make sure you get
- 6:39Speaker 3: those four years of America first agenda items. Because if
- 6:44Speaker 3: Republicans lose control of Congress, the political landscape in Washington
- 6:50Speaker 3: changes drastically. Democrats have made it clear what they will
- 6:54Speaker 3: do if they gain control of the congressional committees. They've
- 6:58Speaker 3: said we will launch investigations, not just into weaponizing the
- 7:01Speaker 3: government against Donald Trump, but against anybody that's around Donald Trump,
- 7:05Speaker 3: the vice president, members of the cabinet, members of Congress.
- 7:09Speaker 3: The list goes on and on. They have made it
- 7:12Speaker 3: clear that they will weaponize. I'm going to say it again.
- 7:16Speaker 3: They will weaponize Congress to try to destroy anyone that
- 7:20Speaker 3: is a advocate for the president of the United States
- 7:24Speaker 3: of America. Now, we also know that they have said
- 7:28Speaker 3: that if you elect them, they will block legislation. They
- 7:31Speaker 3: will reshape, they said, much of the legislation that's already
- 7:34Speaker 3: been passed, and they will take away the president's powers
- 7:38Speaker 3: as much as they possibly can when it comes to
- 7:41Speaker 3: actually being able to do what he needs to do
- 7:43Speaker 3: as president of the United States of America. Now, you
- 7:46Speaker 3: got to understand, we're not even to the halfway mark
- 7:48Speaker 3: of President Trump's presidency. But if you voted for four
- 7:52Speaker 3: years of America first, as I mentioned a moment ago,
- 7:55Speaker 3: the president's argument is you better show up. Otherwise, you're
- 7:57Speaker 3: not going to get it. In fact, what you're going
- 8:00Speaker 3: to get is a overzealous Democratic Party. That's goal is
- 8:05Speaker 3: to destroy anyone.
- 8:07Speaker 4: At the White House.
- 8:09Speaker 3: That is the argument that Trump is now taking directly
- 8:12Speaker 3: to the voters. And there's a second part of this.
- 8:17Speaker 3: It seems that Donald Trump going out on the campaign
- 8:19Speaker 3: trail is helping. This is something that Democrats don't want
- 8:23Speaker 3: you to know. And the media certainly isn't going to
- 8:26Speaker 3: tell you. The polls are tightening, and they're tightening in
- 8:29Speaker 3: favor of Republican candidates. National polls tell us something about
- 8:33Speaker 3: the political environment. But they can't tell us everything about
- 8:36Speaker 3: who controls Congress. And we know the House decided district
- 8:39Speaker 3: by district. The Senate decided state by state. And a
- 8:42Speaker 3: candidate who looks competitive nationally may face a difficult race
- 8:45Speaker 3: because of local political conditions. So Republicans are watching for
- 8:50Speaker 3: signs that voters who previously expressed dissatisfaction with the party
- 8:55Speaker 3: are reconsidering their choices. They're also watching whether Trump's campaign
- 9:01Speaker 3: appearances increase enthusiasm among American voters, specifically Republican voters. By
- 9:07Speaker 3: the way, Democrats are watching the same numbers. They're saying, well,
- 9:10Speaker 3: if Donald Trump shows up, does it make our base
- 9:12Speaker 3: get angry and make our base hate Donald Trump and
- 9:14Speaker 3: make our base want to vote against Donald Trump?
- 9:17Speaker 4: And that's the important point.
- 9:20Speaker 3: You look at a two or three point shift in
- 9:22Speaker 3: a competitive race that can matter enormously.
- 9:26Speaker 1: Now.
- 9:27Speaker 3: One poll showing Republican improving doesn't necessarily establish a lasting trend.
- 9:32Speaker 3: But what we are seeing is multiple polls that are
- 9:34Speaker 3: now tightening. In fact, almost every Senate poll has made,
- 9:39Speaker 3: has showed Republicans over the last week or two getting
- 9:42Speaker 3: closer to Democrats if they were behind. And some of
- 9:46Speaker 3: the Republicans that were ahead have actually gotten a larger lead.
- 9:50Speaker 3: So what does that really have to do with and
- 9:52Speaker 3: how has this happened? Well, that brings us to the economy.
- 9:56Speaker 3: It is the economy, stupid. The economy is front and center.
- 10:00Speaker 3: President Trump is going out there and he's saying, hey,
- 10:03Speaker 3: we know it's the economy, but we also know we
- 10:06Speaker 3: have a genuine objective that we must keep Americans safe.
- 10:12Speaker 3: That is why we went into this war with Iran
- 10:14Speaker 3: to make sure they did not get a nuclear weapon.
- 10:16Speaker 4: And that is important.
- 10:18Speaker 3: How much does it cost to build the car is
- 10:20Speaker 3: also a really important question. The president has admitted that now.
- 10:24Speaker 3: How much does it cost to buy groceries? That's something
- 10:26Speaker 3: the president's talked about. And he wants to make sure
- 10:28Speaker 3: the numbers get better. The president said he wants to
- 10:32Speaker 3: make sure that you can afford a house. He wants
- 10:34Speaker 3: to make sure that your wages, which, by the way,
- 10:36Speaker 3: the medium income in this country is the highest level
- 10:38Speaker 3: in history right now. And the president wants to make
- 10:41Speaker 3: sure you understand that he's the reason why those wages
- 10:43Speaker 3: have gone up instead of down. Now, ultimately, Americans go
- 10:49Speaker 3: and vote on their family's financial future. Is it improving
- 10:54Speaker 3: or is it getting worse? Are your wages keeping up
- 10:56Speaker 3: with your expenses? Now, Trump's economic argument is centering around
- 11:01Speaker 3: all of that. And he said, look, I'm the guy
- 11:03Speaker 3: that lowered your taxes. I'm the guy that gave you
- 11:07Speaker 3: fewer regulations. that allowed for American jobs to grow. I'm
- 11:12Speaker 3: the guy that gave you American manufacturing back while the
- 11:15Speaker 3: other party was doing anything they could to shut it down.
- 11:17Speaker 3: I'm the guy that's in favor of massive domestic energy
- 11:20Speaker 3: production while the other guy said, we want to make
- 11:22Speaker 3: sure that we shut it down. This president, Donald Trump,
- 11:25Speaker 3: has said, my trade policies have been designed to protect
- 11:28Speaker 3: American workers and protect American industries and bring more jobs home.
- 11:34Speaker 3: President Trump argued that his approach created jobs.
- 11:38Speaker 4: It did, by the way.
- 11:39Speaker 3: It encouraged massive American investment. And he said it made
- 11:43Speaker 3: America much more competitive on the world stage. Now, Democrats
- 11:48Speaker 3: have gone back to one simple argument. They argue that
- 11:51Speaker 3: voters should judge President Trump by what they're paying at
- 11:54Speaker 3: the pump. That you should look at nothing else. By
- 11:57Speaker 3: the way, never forget that under Biden and Obama, $ 5
- 12:01Speaker 3: a gallon gas was a normal part of their policy.
- 12:05Speaker 4: They wanted to.
- 12:05Speaker 3: Force you into green alternative energy. And make no mistake,
- 12:10Speaker 3: they have no problem with the gas prices we're seeing
- 12:12Speaker 3: right now. They have no problem with it. So as
- 12:17Speaker 3: the polls are opening for early voting in multiple states
- 12:21Speaker 3: this week, some even opened last week, the number one
- 12:25Speaker 3: thing is you better get out and vote. And if
- 12:28Speaker 3: you voted for Donald Trump and you want his policies
- 12:31Speaker 3: to succeed, then you better vote one more time. Because
- 12:34Speaker 3: if you stay home, the radical Marxist, socialist, communist left
- 12:39Speaker 3: They're not.
- 12:40Speaker 4: They are showing up to vote.
