- 0:00Welcome to the Western show. You continue to talk like you're
- 0:05talking right now. You'll be history on this
- 0:07program like. Cooler show.
- 0:11Nobody eats beef and roni on a boat.
- 0:13Man, that's a problem. Yokozuna.
- 0:19Blew my mind what you did, Jack Tony.
- 0:37Let's go, I thought, under your skin.
- 0:38I'm ready to this. Episode now yeah we need like
- 0:48deadly games theme song immediately because.
- 0:51We are back. For Part 2 Survivor Series 1998,
- 0:56this is this is the Extra Cooler show.
- 1:02My name is Nick all the known as Extra Cooler.
- 1:05Appropriately me and the Survivor Series team, we are
- 1:08back. We are covering Part 2 of 1998
- 1:12Survivor Series as usually. Find us on Instagram at Extra
- 1:16Cooler and join us over on our Discord channel.
- 1:18Follow us on Instagram as well at the Extra Cooler show.
- 1:22Right now we are pulling our our our next episode.
- 1:26So you're definitely gonna want to head over there.
- 1:28But yeah, guys ready, ready for some deadly games or deadly
- 1:34game? Just lively, just lively games.
- 1:37Lively games, that's. All you're up for.
- 1:39I do have, I want to object to the way Matt started the song
- 1:42there, which is like just Jim Johnston going oh, like right to
- 1:46start is. Well.
- 1:48Very off the space, if you catch my drift there, yeah.
- 1:53It's got sprung on me. I wasn't expecting it and then I
- 1:56was trying to find it. The volume was all messed up.
- 1:58So I have this feeling it when I rush, when I rush things.
- 2:02It gives you a little Jim Johnston O face.
- 2:08There you go. Well done.
- 2:10Well, Are you ready to deliver some housekeeping?
- 2:13I think so. I think so I, I can, I can do
- 2:16that for us. So last week we, we, we
- 2:21obviously covered Part 1 of Survivor Series 1998 and there
- 2:25was some questions around Sergeant Slaughter and his role
- 2:29as commissioner or more so even his part in the Stooges really
- 2:33being caught up with Briscoe and, and Patterson here with
- 2:37Vince. And I didn't find a ton from a
- 2:39timeline perspective. As I just told the guys right
- 2:42before the episode, I was trying to do my homework on the bus on
- 2:44the way to school. So this was a last minute cram
- 2:48session. So I did find that he was
- 2:50assuming the role of the on Air Commissioner which was
- 2:54relinquished by Gorilla Monsoon in August of 97.
- 2:58But then in early 98, Slaughter turns heel and joins the Stooges
- 3:02and it's kind of on and off through the end of 1998 when he
- 3:07also steps down as commissioner as well.
- 3:09So it's pretty much the the year of 1998.
- 3:12And there's a couple of sporadic appearances from Sergeant
- 3:15Slaughter from there forward through 2001.
- 3:18But really it's it's 98 is really when he is with the
- 3:21Stooges. It just still feels really weird
- 3:23to look at. Yeah, I don't.
- 3:25I don't really recall him lingering around that long.
- 3:28Maybe it was like a backstage thing and he definitely wasn't
- 3:32on air, but. I'm pretty sure he's he's done
- 3:35with the the Stooges once they merge with like the corporate,
- 3:40the ministry there that's it happens like before that.
- 3:43Sounds about right. Yeah, well, that's like Stooges
- 3:46says, you know, it's just the two like that's you don't think
- 3:49anybody else. Yes, exactly.
- 3:51So that's what I get for trying to do my homework on the way to
- 3:54the on the way to school. So kids take that as your
- 3:57advice. But I did do my homework and
- 4:00housekeeping for whether or not Marlena was pregnant or actually
- 4:05pregnant or not in 1998. And boys, it was a work.
- 4:08She only has one child, Dakota, of course, and she was born in
- 4:121994. So cheers to that boys.
- 4:17That worked. Yep, we got worked.
- 4:19You forgot your drop though. Enough is enough, and it's time
- 4:22for. Housekeeping.
- 4:24Sorry, so, so we're going to end with that and we're going to
- 4:27move on to Part 2 of Survivor Series 1999.
- 4:31Again takes place November 15th. Sorry, 1998.
- 4:35Sorry, November 15th at the Keel Center in St.
- 4:37Louis, MO Lawler and Jim Ross are on commentary.
- 4:41This is the first Survivor Series without any traditional
- 4:45Survivor Series matches and it's got the 14 man single
- 4:49elimination match. We covered the first two rounds
- 4:53of the tournament, right? So let's we're going to jump
- 4:56through. In the second round, we saw
- 4:58Undertaker defeating Kane, Rock defeating Ken Shamrock, Mankind
- 5:03defeating Al Snow, and then Stone Cold advancing via count
- 5:07out because he had no opponent. So I, I, you know, that was a
- 5:12whole weird thing in itself. But again, the winner of this
- 5:16tournament is going to take the vacated WWF Championship and
- 5:20things are really, really, really headed that way right
- 5:25now. We're kicking things off on this
- 5:27episode with Michael Cole, backstage with Paul Bearer.
- 5:33And what is more terrifying, Paul Bearer.
- 5:35With or without makeup? Because I'm gonna go without.
- 5:38He's yeah, I like him almost better, like, And I think they
- 5:42should have just called him his real name, Percy Pringle, right?
- 5:45Like, or at least when he has no face paint, he should be like,
- 5:49straight up Percy Pringle because it's like a perfect
- 5:51name. He's insane.
- 5:53Oh and yeah, just the the facial expressions without the makeup.
- 5:57It's. It's oh man, he is.
- 6:00He's a looker man, that's for sure.
- 6:02He's. So perfect for like, the
- 6:04undertaker's manager though. He's just Oh yeah.
- 6:06Especially during this era too. Like it fits.
- 6:09Yes, it's a little meaner, really.
- 6:10Well, a little more real. Yeah.
- 6:13But we're going to get to our first match, which is our first
- 6:16non tournament match of of the event.
- 6:25Nice job. Can't forget that we've got
- 6:27Sable facing off against Jacqueline.
- 6:29They've kind of like teased this and and thrown it in there
- 6:32throughout the night and on Sunday night heat.
- 6:36Jacqueline is the women's champion, she is with Mark
- 6:39Marrow. We've got Shane McMahon as the
- 6:41referee, right? And I don't know about you guys,
- 6:45but as soon as this match started and Shane was the
- 6:48referee, I, I felt like I blacked out and I, I was kind of
- 6:53like, why is Shane the referee like did?
- 6:56Did you guys immediately remember that Shane was the ref
- 6:59in this match? I definitely forgot that.
- 7:02Yeah, no way did I. Remember that all right, 'cause
- 7:04I was like, why? Is he the?
- 7:06Referee right now, like what is his role with the company?
- 7:09Like I, I it's very blurry. I think it's.
- 7:12What? Happened.
- 7:14Oh, go ahead, You go ahead. Yeah, for for what happened was
- 7:17Vince McMahon pretty much denounced Shane as his son.
- 7:21And this is when he started taking on Mankind, as you know,
- 7:26and and said, you know, I've lost a son and but I've gained
- 7:29another. And then and then Mankind starts
- 7:33calling Vince dad. You hear it later on in this
- 7:36card. But he then assigned they he
- 7:41assigned Shane to then be a lowly referee.
- 7:44So that's really where it comes from.
- 7:46And it's, and it's really actually pretty good
- 7:49storytelling from this part because it's setting up the
- 7:52events of the evening and how it's all going to go down and,
- 7:55you know, you don't think of anything because Shane has been
- 7:57demoted to be a ref by Vincent. It's one of the smarter bits of
- 8:02booking in the whole thing, I think, right, Like it's actually
- 8:05like, oh, all right, this makes sense.
- 8:07You can't shoot a million poles through it and.
- 8:09You. Think and he hates Vince at this
- 8:13time too. Yeah.
- 8:15It was definitely one of those things about like halfway
- 8:18through this match, it kind of clicked as to why he was in this
- 8:21role and it made sense. But Jacqueline's music is awful.
- 8:28It's one of the worst wrestling entrance musics I have ever
- 8:31heard. She comes down with Mark Marrow,
- 8:34who's got a little pep in his step.
- 8:37What's it like? Wow, wow, wow, wow.
- 8:39I don't even know what it is. But, you know, it sounds like a
- 8:42bootleg version of like, his boxing.
- 8:46Yeah, when he was in the marvelous, marvelous Marc Marrow
- 8:48character. It sounds like just a poor man's
- 8:50version of that, I think. Jacqueline has Sable's weave
- 8:54intertwined in through her weave.
- 8:57It's This is women's wrestling in 1998 right now.
- 9:02There you go. Can I read you a paragraph from
- 9:04Wikipedia that says cements exactly what you just said?
- 9:09It's about this feud, so it's about the card.
- 9:12The two other feuds going into the event were both championship
- 9:15feuds. Mark Marrow grew jealous of his
- 9:17valet Sable and the attention she gained, eventually having
- 9:19her fired by defeating her defeating her in a match.
- 9:22When she returned as a wrestler, her in her own right, Mero
- 9:25employed a new valet, Jacqueline, and the two
- 9:28naturally squared off. First they had a bikini contest
- 9:31which brace for it, which Sable won by popularity but was
- 9:35disqualified as her bikini consisted of handprints.
- 9:43Perfect. Wait, was that Nick making the
- 9:45noise or was that the there we go.
- 9:48I think we just need like the Nick soundboard.
- 9:50Doing that voice. Also, do you think that's just
- 9:56Goldberg in Johnston's, you know, studio and like Johnston's
- 10:02like laying it down and Goldberg's just doing?
- 10:07Oh God, this shows how much we care about this match.
- 10:12Although I did think the impressive part was Sable goes
- 10:15for a pin at one point and Mark Merrill pulls her out of the
- 10:18ring and she delivers a Sable bomb.
- 10:20And Merrill's not a tiny guy, and she's pretty tiny, so I
- 10:27thought it was an impressive spot.
- 10:29I thought she was going to drop him on his skull like it was.
- 10:31It was hairy for a second of her, like trying to get the turn
- 10:35even with Mero, like obviously assisting with a jump.
- 10:39It was still. Scary.
- 10:41She has like 2 moves. Jackie legitimizes the match so
- 10:44much. Jackie even like makes it
- 10:46actually look like a fight even if it's what 3 minutes?
- 10:49Something like. That match goes.
- 10:51Two moves the. Match goes 3 minutes and 14
- 10:57seconds. Jacqueline's taunting Sable with
- 10:59the hair that she had cut off of her cut off of her supposedly.
- 11:04But Sable wins the Women's Championship with the Sable
- 11:06Bomb, and here we are. So that's her only championship,
- 11:13this reign right here. Really.
- 11:15So I thought, I always thought she had more than one, but no.
- 11:19I thought she had like a she had that heel run right for the the
- 11:23women that want to be me and the men that want to beat.
- 11:26Yeah, Yep. She did that move for like a
- 11:29little dance, signature dance, Yeah, that was.
- 11:32Later on the same run. Really.
- 11:35That's. The same run, yeah, apparently
- 11:37they brought. This is the whole reason they
- 11:39brought the women's championship back was first Sable.
- 11:42Interesting, here I am getting my notebook.
- 11:44Out. Yep.
- 11:45Get it out. All right.
- 11:46Meltzer, one star. Meltzer one star.
- 11:48Wow. One star, though, it's better.
- 11:50Better than the. Matches on the first guy half.
- 11:52He's firing off of those duds. Yeah.
- 11:55So our next match is the first tournament semi final match,
- 12:01which is Mankind versus Stone Gold.
- 12:03And the match goes 10 minutes and 27 seconds.
- 12:07Again, we're down to the final four, Austin versus McMahon,
- 12:09Taker versus Rock. And that's a pretty like looking
- 12:12back at that final four, that's an impressive final four for
- 12:15sure. We've got corporate sponsored
- 12:19Mankind. Players right there, probably.
- 12:22Versus fan favorite Stone Cold Steve Austin.
- 12:25And it's just like your standard brawl between these two.
- 12:29I like how right from the jump, Austin basically strips Mankind
- 12:33of his tuxedo jacket and and then the shoes, which again,
- 12:38only Mankind could make that work.
- 12:40Only Mick Foley could make it work.
- 12:42Wrestling in socks. Like I kept watching.
- 12:45I'm like, when's he gonna slip and fall right on his ass?
- 12:49I agree. But pretty early in the match,
- 12:51the crowd starts booing as Vince is pushed down to the ringside
- 12:54by the Stooges and Commissioner Slaughter.
- 12:59These two, I feel like in WWF we didn't get enough or there's not
- 13:05enough focus on Mick Foley and Stone Cold and the matches that
- 13:09they had and that they could have had because of like the
- 13:12brawling style of Austin and just Mick Foley can go with
- 13:16anybody. I I thought this match was was
- 13:21one of the more fun matches on the car. 100% well.
- 13:25Right before you forget, leading up to this, like before this was
- 13:29like over the edge. We're like dude love faced Stone
- 13:32Cold with like McMahon is the ref and like Patterson was the
- 13:37ring announcer or something. So in the match Mankind is on
- 13:45the receiving end of a Luthaz press.
- 13:47He avoids A stunner and slides out of the ring and starts to
- 13:51run away. But Vinces guys kind of talk him
- 13:54into getting back in the ring, right?
- 13:57Like you don't want to give up. You don't want to give up, Mick.
- 13:59Get back in there. This has to be the fastest we've
- 14:02ever seen Mick Foley run in any in any form, in any shape.
- 14:06That dude is booking it up the aisle way and I was wondering if
- 14:10it was just to get more camera time for that big skull
- 14:13entrance. That was so chef's kiss in this
- 14:15event. It to go back to that, and I
- 14:18know we're in the middle of this match.
- 14:19That is, to me it's it's and after watching this event I
- 14:23think it's one of the coolest and most underrated and under
- 14:27appreciated entrances in WWF history.
- 14:31Like that thing is legit man, whoever put that thing together.
- 14:35I bet you it's still in the warehouse in Connecticut.
- 14:37It has to be Yeah, you would you think I I would love to see
- 14:40that. Like it's like stuck somewhere
- 14:42in the back. Yeah, if if Triple H was on this
- 14:45card, I bet you he would have brought it back by now.
- 14:47But you see, are you proud of me, Andrew?
- 14:52Anyway, Austin? Austin catches Mankind from
- 14:58behind with a clothesline and they they fight in and out of
- 15:00the ring. Was he smashes all three of
- 15:02their heads together first. Very like 80s style move I love.
- 15:06Her triple triple noggin knocker.
- 15:08Yeah, I like that, McMahon Livid.
- 15:10Livid at this point too, when all three of the guys get beat
- 15:14up in one fell swoop. I like what he gets to get him,
- 15:17Mick, get him. It's this this whole
- 15:23pay-per-view is really interesting there.
- 15:27What like what is the deal with? Why all of a sudden it almost
- 15:30becomes like a no DQ match without?
- 15:33It's kind of all night long, but they don't announce it in any
- 15:37way, shape or form because there's a chair that gets
- 15:39involved. They're fighting outside the
- 15:41ring for the majority of the night.
- 15:43Like it's it essentially in the back half of this pay-per-view.
- 15:46Yes, everything turns into this. No DQ anything goes, but you
- 15:51have to finish in the ring kind of situation and this is really
- 15:54where it starts to really noticeable.
- 15:57Why that Shane McMahon booking from before that we talked about
- 16:01the refs looks so much smarter because the refs, this is like,
- 16:05like, throw whatever, make it up as we go.
- 16:08Otherwise, they could have just disqualified Austin for like,
- 16:12using a chair. Right.
- 16:13Yeah. Yeah.
- 16:14And in the beginning half that we covered on the last episode,
- 16:17there's a lot of like outside interference with, you know,
- 16:22with head and the guitar and like that the referee like is
- 16:27purposely looking the other way. But in this like the ref is
- 16:31there and he's watching the thing.
- 16:32And I think Jr. like says something at one point about
- 16:35like I, I guess this is no DQ at this point.
- 16:40You know, we talked about, I think Matt a lot talks about the
- 16:43system suspension of disbelief, right?
- 16:45And like how you could like that's part of this, right?
- 16:48Like you have to, you have to suspend it.
- 16:51But like, like sometimes it's just the writing is shoddy.
- 16:55Like it's like there's no attention to detail with those
- 16:58kind of things that that kind of drives me nuts.
- 17:00Yes, forever, Forever will drive me nuts.
- 17:03So again, Vince's ringside with with the Stooges and Vince's in
- 17:08in the wheelchair throughout this entire match, which is
- 17:11going to become very important as we move in.
- 17:15Mankind introduces a chair into the match, delivers a double arm
- 17:17DDT onto the chair, doesn't keep Austin down.
- 17:21He can't pin Austin. He tries to pile drive him, but
- 17:24that's when Austin reverses it, throws Mankind onto the chair.
- 17:28Then things are starting to heat up a little bit.
- 17:31Delivers a stone cold stunner onto the chair.
- 17:34And then as Austin goes for the win, Vince suddenly is a OK.
- 17:39He jumps right out of his wheelchair, pulls the referee
- 17:41out of the ring, punches him to the ground, kicks him.
- 17:45He's he's flipping out. He is not happy.
- 17:47Austin's looking on in shock and Mankind applies the Mandible
- 17:51Club and all of a sudden his pants fall down.
- 17:55So good. He's got the tuxedo pants over
- 17:58his signature brown pants, and the tuxedo pants fall down,
- 18:03which again, feels appropriate for a match of not only Mankind
- 18:08and Mick Foley, but facing off against Stone Cold.
- 18:11Like it just works perfectly. But Austin throws him into the
- 18:17ropes, catches another Stunner covering him, but there's no
- 18:20referee. And suddenly Shane, being a
- 18:23referee, comes down, slides in the ring, counts and stops it
- 18:28too, as Austin looks up. And Shane sat up on his knees
- 18:32and gives Austin the finger, the double bird, the signature
- 18:35McMahon like, yeah, the floppy wrists.
- 18:40And Briscoe and Slaughter climb in the ring, hit Austin with a
- 18:45First of all, Briscoe's chair shot is like this man has never
- 18:48swung as a steel chair in his life.
- 18:50Setup is so slow too. Oh, it's slow motion.
- 18:53He's like, I don't want to do this.
- 18:55Mr. McMahon. Mr. McMahon.
- 19:00But Shane counts the pinfall and advances Mick Foley or Mankind
- 19:04into the finals as a Vince and his entourage speed off, quickly
- 19:09jumping into a limousine, and Austin follows after tosses some
- 19:14random guy with the WWF shirt out of his like Ford.
- 19:17Bronco, I love Jr. with the McMahon and company running
- 19:24away. He's like, here they go skipping
- 19:26Gailey away. Like I noticed that too.
- 19:31They're like, they're really like, yeah, they are like
- 19:35feeling great. It's, it's very, it's funny
- 19:37because they they've go, they follow them through the the
- 19:40halls into the car and everything.
- 19:41But it keeps cutting back to Austin.
- 19:43It's a. It's a fun little bit of
- 19:45production, I think. And keep Mr. McMahon.
- 19:50It's easy to get Austin out of there, too, so he doesn't mess
- 19:54with the finals. Yes.
- 19:57So the end of this match felt extremely, extremely awkward
- 20:01because it looked like every single person in that match was
- 20:05like trying to figure out what the hell was going on.
- 20:08And there's a reason for it. Big Boss Man was supposed to be
- 20:12in the ring for the finish of this match, so that.
- 20:16Chair shot. Yes, that chair shot that you
- 20:18saw was not supposed to happen. That wasn't the scripted
- 20:21finished. So I was listening to I was
- 20:24listening to something to wrestle with about this from
- 20:27like they they covered it in 19. I'm sorry in 2018.
- 20:31But anyway, Pritchard is talking about how when Shane goes to
- 20:36back up into the corner, boss man is supposed to be behind him
- 20:40and is supposed to be the guy that actually takes out stone
- 20:43cold and lays him out for the 123.
- 20:45But instead Austin like Shane rolls out of the ring.
- 20:48Thankfully he was like aware enough to do this.
- 20:52He then Austin is just kind of looking around like what are we
- 20:55doing now? Sarge and Briscoe get into the
- 20:59ring. Briscoe has the chair and
- 21:01Prichard said that Briscoe was afraid to actually swing the
- 21:04chair at the biggest man in the company with a bum neck.
- 21:08So he just like little tink onto his head and like that was the
- 21:12finish. And it doesn't make any sense
- 21:13cuz Austin kicks out of so much he takes the double arm EDT onto
- 21:17the onto the chair and a little chair shot from Gerald Briscoe
- 21:23is the is the thing that ends it.
- 21:25That is why it did feel weird. It was like what?
- 21:27That is it. Like he goes down.
- 21:29So much more sense he. Also.
- 21:32He also was doing what happened. Yeah, yeah.
- 21:34Wait, yeah, wait. What was?
- 21:35Bossman doing yeah. I'm getting there.
- 21:37So he he said that Vince was absolutely livid.
- 21:41Like, like fuming mad. Rightfully so, but they were
- 21:45immediately after this, they had to go film the getting into the
- 21:49into the the limo and then Austin gets into the truck and
- 21:52they have to drive around the block.
- 21:53So he didn't even get back into the gorilla to like tear people
- 21:57apart until much, much later. Beyond that, Bossman's
- 22:01explanation was that he had not gone over his match with the
- 22:04Undertaker and he needed to go back and review the match with
- 22:09Undertaker and that he asked if he was needed in the in the
- 22:12beginning, like in Gorilla, before the match even started,
- 22:15he asked if he was needed and he just vanished and disappeared.
- 22:20And everyone that was out there told, or Pritchard tells it that
- 22:24everyone that was out there thought that Boss Man was
- 22:26actually at ringside. And then they started looking
- 22:28around like where the hell is Boss Man?
- 22:31So yeah, it was kind of like that's what it is.
- 22:35Decent, decent improv, though. I mean, like if you had like the
- 22:39guys nowhere to be found, they had to do something.
- 22:41I mean it's. Not great improv by Shane to
- 22:43like lure Austin into the far corner and kind of stall and
- 22:48allow the other two guys to get up on the apron on the left
- 22:50side. And this is, yeah, this is
- 22:52really. The first time that that Shane
- 22:56is actually in a an angle, like he's been around the the
- 23:00business forever and he's reft in the past.
- 23:02But like this is the first time he's an on screen character and
- 23:05he gets thrown into something like this.
- 23:06It makes me think about like when he blew out his quads and
- 23:09Snoop Dogg was aware enough to come in and do what he needed to
- 23:12do. No wonder maybe this makes sense
- 23:16that Vince is probably like, boss man, you're gonna to hell
- 23:21in the cell and he understand he's going to hang you from the
- 23:23cell and then you're going to have kennel from Hell match.
- 23:27Yeah, yeah. Talk about punishments.
- 23:29Oh my God. Although he is like has, he's
- 23:32later like dabbing them up right?
- 23:33Like they're all like, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 23:34He's. Got to be all cheery.
- 23:36You could take the night off. Maybe that's why he sent them
- 23:38off. He's like, you're not going to
- 23:39mess this up anymore, get out of here.
- 23:41Oh my. God.
- 23:42So his in his defense, he's done a lot already.
- 23:46Yes, he has, yeah. Oh yeah.
- 23:49So after this match, you know, you get the whole, the whole
- 23:52thing that goes down, but then you go back to the announce desk
- 23:55and it feels like this is the first time of the entire evening
- 23:58that they've like slowed down to recap anything.
- 24:01And Jr. and King and Jr. in particular is absolutely fired
- 24:05up about everything that's going on.
- 24:08And in true Jr. fashion, and I had to pull a clip of this like
- 24:112 minutes worth, but I only played 17 seconds.
- 24:14So here we go. Austin's been duped.
- 24:16Is that what we're saying here? That Shane McMahon and his daddy
- 24:19sucked in Austin too? And everybody else, including
- 24:22me, you, everybody here, everybody got screwed by the
- 24:26McMahon family? Is that what we're saying?
- 24:27How smart, how brilliant is Vince McMahon?
- 24:35Meanwhile, throughout this, like this tangent that Jim Ross is
- 24:40going on, it's like, you know, a classic shot of him and Lawler
- 24:44at the at the announce desk, there is like the biggest piece
- 24:47of white trash behind him, like just sitting there on screen
- 24:51with his middle finger up at the camera, like, like not pissed,
- 24:55like thinking he's hot shit. And it's like, you watch this
- 24:58guy and he's with his kid and I'm like, Oh my God, the
- 25:01Attitude Era was something else. So cool bro, you look.
- 25:05At his middle finger, the head, the head man.
- 25:09Behind behind that guy is a sign that says every what does
- 25:12everybody want? And it just says tits like
- 25:15that's the entire sign. Again.
- 25:18Attitude Era. Attitude Era?
- 25:19Yikes. Oh man.
- 25:21All right, let's talk about what's in everybody's cooler.
- 25:23The Extra cooler show and what's in the cooler is brought to you
- 25:25by Snoop Brewing Company. Snoop Brewing is known for their
- 25:28hazy and golden Ipas like Juice Bomb and Super Soft Company Man
- 25:34Over Here. Company man is here.
- 25:36I have a West Coast Sloop by Pai truly do enjoy this very very
- 25:43much and I feel like I've I've had the big hazy Ipas the last
- 25:47couple of weeks with with tree house and it's good to go back
- 25:50to a crisp West Coast style hot like.
- 25:53That. Cheers boys, Cheers.
- 25:57You drinking the wine over there, Nick?
- 25:59Oh yeah, I, I, you guys really warmed me up last week and I was
- 26:03like, I'm going to open up a bottle of wine.
- 26:06So I actually opened it up last night in preparation and I've
- 26:10got a Mal back with me tonight. And there we go for this deadly
- 26:13game that we're playing. I've heard about letting a wine
- 26:17breathe, but a full a full 24 hours it seems exorbitant.
- 26:22Well, I had some last night. I got to.
- 26:26Go to work. Mr. McMahon.
- 26:30Just imagine how much stable noises he makes if he drinks the
- 26:33whole body. What?
- 26:37Do you guys got? I've got I do not have wine.
- 26:42I have this weird thing that my wife got from ALDI.
- 26:45It's called Fieldcraft. It's a extra fruited hard
- 26:50seltzer. It's like 9% though, but it's in
- 26:52like the bait, like the BFC, not weldy.
- 26:55Yeah, yeah, it's not. It tastes totally different than
- 26:58a seltzer. It's I guess it's like a cross
- 26:59between a seltzer and a cider, if I had to say.
- 27:01OK, where's it from? Oh, oh, no, it's not good.
- 27:04It's from Utica, NY. Oh man.
- 27:11I It's not bad. Why is you dead?
- 27:15You're been to Utica. Come on.
- 27:16No, no, there's a reason. There you go.
- 27:19There once. What'd you say?
- 27:21Nothing. Forget it.
- 27:23And banger Mike, what do you got?
- 27:25I got some more red red wine. Is it sugar free sugar?
- 27:29Freebabyso.com. The OG fig kid.
- 27:33He. Loves that.
- 27:34Tom is the fetus. What?
- 27:38We got the diabetes. What?
- 27:40I don't think so. I don't think so.
- 27:44Tom is like a tough to get onto discord.
- 27:47He just. It's just summer.
- 27:49He likes to. Say Roddy Piper sucks and he'll
- 27:53show up. It's.
- 27:54Like he'll show. Bloody Mary, you know that?
- 27:57Yeah, he do Bloody Mary three times in the mirror, Tom, you
- 27:59know. Tom showed up on the Discord
- 28:01just to ask what the Hell's sugar?
- 28:03Free wine. He put down Facebook and hopped
- 28:08on Discord. This is very.
- 28:10True. Listening to the podcast,
- 28:12obviously, yeah, we. Appreciate it every wait a
- 28:14second every week man, every episode.
- 28:16We appreciate it very much. No offense Tom, I imagine you
- 28:19vlogging on the discord like the classic Shawn Michaels meme
- 28:22where you can feel like 2 fingers.
- 28:28Oh. God, all right, now he's going
- 28:31on the discord. Yeah, now, yeah, he's coming for
- 28:34you. Our.
- 28:34Next match on Fig guys. Every Tuesday night.
- 28:37There's our cheap cheers there, Yeah.
- 28:39Our our next match is. Wait, three stars from Meltzer
- 28:42on that previous match? Apologies, that's the highest
- 28:45rating so far, right? Definitely far.
- 28:48To me it's the match of the night, but.
- 28:50Yeah, I agree. Yeah, I agree.
- 28:52Rock versus Undertaker, this is a match that on paper I have 0
- 28:57interest in. I just, it's, I don't know.
- 29:01I don't know. It's a weird match up but it it
- 29:03goes 8 minutes and 24 seconds. You have said previously and
- 29:08made it no, you know, no qualms about you not being an
- 29:11undertaker guy. But there's something about the
- 29:14the, the time that the camera stayed on that skull and the
- 29:17entrance and the torches and then you hear this bad ass
- 29:20undertaker music hit and then you're just waiting for him to
- 29:23walk out and him and Paul Bearer walking out.
- 29:25There was something that was just, I agree about that it that
- 29:29intro and that just entrance was really, really cool to me.
- 29:33And I like you said, it's weird. Like I, I like that it is like a
- 29:37kind of a unique. Matchup for like the attitude
- 29:39era, like these guys don't off haven't often they you never
- 29:43think of rock and the undertaker, so not at all head
- 29:45to But this matchup, I feel like you, you rarely saw an Attitude
- 29:57Era. But again, it's a lot of like,
- 30:02you know, brawling back and forth.
- 30:04Rock delivers a Samoan drop. The two of them lay motionless
- 30:09on the mat. Big Boss Man suddenly reappears.
- 30:12Boss Man is like this guy. Now he appears.
- 30:15I want to know what his paycheck must have looked like, because
- 30:19we talk about like the Final Four boss man's like the next
- 30:24wrestler up, you know, like he's clearly #5 in this whole
- 30:28storyline outside of the Mcmahons.
- 30:30As an impact player, yeah. Yeah, so.
- 30:34And just think he missed his biggest spot too.
- 30:35Just imagine what it would have been.
- 30:37Oh my God, knowing that now, which I had no clue of until
- 30:41Matt just told us I I'm fortunate that he missed that
- 30:43because that really would he ties it all together big time
- 30:47and and. Kind of like nickel.
- 30:49Six other spots. Yeah, but he's like nickel and
- 30:51diming it, you know it's not. He's like grab was he grab a leg
- 30:54here? You know he does a little that
- 30:56there. Where?
- 30:57Chair shot right. I do like at one point rock Rock
- 31:03sits up like the undertaker. He stands up in typical like
- 31:06rock fashion where he's got the animated expression stands up,
- 31:10signals to fall, you big fat piece of shit, loud enough that
- 31:14the mic picks it up. And he like does like the like
- 31:17illustrates like his big belly. And it's it's I.
- 31:21I thoroughly enjoyed that Percy. Pringle, Percy Pringle making
- 31:26faces. This is why I love the rock back
- 31:27then. Fantastic.
- 31:30Oh God. So rock goes for the the
- 31:32People's Elbow, but Undertaker, pardon, sorry, Paul Bearer stops
- 31:38him by grabbing at his foot, allowing the Undertaker to take
- 31:41the rock down. As Undertaker set up the rock
- 31:44for a chokeslam, suddenly we get more interference and it's Kane
- 31:48climbing in the ring. Undertaker throws the rock into
- 31:51Kane's hands. Kane delivers a chokeslam,
- 31:54allowing The Rock to win via disqualification.
- 31:57Well, I guess we're doing DQS now.
- 31:58Yes, yeah, right. Suddenly.
- 32:03Earlier in the match, even King is talking about how, you know,
- 32:06what would happen if they get counted out here and, you know,
- 32:10they say that Mankind would become champion.
- 32:12And it's just so bizarre that they now are going all right.
- 32:15Cool DQ. Yeah, this is like goes back to
- 32:19what Jim was saying. It's like there's so many parts
- 32:22of the storytelling that I feel like they got right, but little,
- 32:26little things like this piss me off.
- 32:28Watching this back and maybe in the moment I didn't pick up on
- 32:31it as much, but. We all together, Oh my God,
- 32:35there's no like legitimacy, like there's nothing legit happening.
- 32:38Like it's all it's got one called Russo Prop and all of it.
- 32:44I mean, it's it's his magnum opus is kind of what he calls
- 32:47it. And like him being behind it
- 32:48all. But like the the action, the
- 32:51majority of the action during this entire card, and especially
- 32:54the back half happens outside the ring.
- 32:56And it just feels like they're coming back in to try to go for
- 32:59a pin and then they head right back out again.
- 33:01And this match was no different than the Austin mankind one
- 33:04previous to that. And surprise surprise, the same
- 33:07thing happens in the main event. Yeah, I think, well, I'll save
- 33:12it for when we give our cans in the cooler.
- 33:14I'll I'll save that my my input. But we're ready to move on to
- 33:18our next match, our second non tournament match of the night.
- 33:22Three quarter star from. Wow.
- 33:25Three quarter that's yeah, three quarter of a star A.
- 33:27Little harsh I think. Pritchard also said that
- 33:31Undertaker was banged up during this too, so he was limited
- 33:33throughout the match. But you don't see it or notice
- 33:37it if you're watching with a blind eye.
- 33:39I wonder, like if I really wonder, maybe not.
- 33:44I I wonder where Triple H would have, how he would have played
- 33:48into this whole tournament had he been healthy.
- 33:51You know what I mean? Like, would, would Taker and and
- 33:54Kane have eliminated each other, especially if Undertaker was
- 33:57really banged up? And would this been a chance for
- 34:00them to elevate Triple H at all at this point?
- 34:03Or was it too soon? I I don't know.
- 34:06I feel like I feel like he would be paired with the Rock.
- 34:09I feel like he would Triple H would have been in the
- 34:12Undertaker spot right here. Exactly what you were saying,
- 34:14Kane, Undertaker eliminating themselves in some way, shape or
- 34:19form. But having that, you know,
- 34:21rivalry already and you know, Triple H and the Rock have faced
- 34:24off in the past and the chemistry was there.
- 34:26I guarantee you that they would have paired them again in the
- 34:29final four would have been my guess.
- 34:30But maybe Triple H doesn't have the star power at that point,
- 34:33and maybe that's the other side. Maybe I'm thinking of it with,
- 34:37you know, rose colored. You know what we know about you
- 34:41know, Mr. Trips. All right, our next match is a
- 34:45is A tag team match. It's the New Age Outlaws who are
- 34:48the tag team champions, facing off against D Lo Brown and Mark
- 34:51Henry and the Headbangers. Nice.
- 34:54Triple threat match for the WWF Tag Team Championship.
- 34:58It goes 10 minutes and 10 seconds and I can tell you
- 35:01before I even started watching this match, I absolutely hate
- 35:04the idea of a triple threat tag team match.
- 35:09Doesn't. Mean I can tell you.
- 35:11I I'm not going to talk about this one.
- 35:13I can't tell you how many times Jr. said how unorthodox this
- 35:19match was, which means basically means it sucks.
- 35:22Yeah. This is and he was.
- 35:24Like. We could take a piss break
- 35:25during this piss break. So we you guys want to take a
- 35:28piss? Do you want to know how much of
- 35:31an attitude era this pay-per-view is during the new
- 35:33age Outlaws like whole shtick. They cut to that woman with a
- 35:37sign and it says I'll suck yours if you suck mine like that.
- 35:42That is that is the time that we're in.
- 35:44And then right after that, as as as the the headbangers come down
- 35:52to the ring, they cut to the only Thrasher fan in in all of
- 35:57the world, and it's a woman in the crowd with an airbrushed
- 36:00Thrasher shirt on the New Jersey license plate that says Thrasher
- 36:05on it. This Thrasher.
- 36:08Should be. I I might be the replica of that
- 36:10shirt. Thrasher should be terrified for
- 36:13his life if he saw this woman. Thrasher Stalker I didn't know
- 36:16that those kind of things existed.
- 36:18Thrasher. What a name.
- 36:20After after those two come out, we get a as Jr. which I this I
- 36:24thought was very interesting throughout this pay-per-view and
- 36:28we play this game a lot and we haven't played it so much on
- 36:32this card because Jr. has done it throughout the night.
- 36:35He's constantly telling us how old a lot of these guys are.
- 36:38I don't know if you picked up on that.
- 36:40He tells us that Mark Henry and DLO are respectively 26 and 27
- 36:45years old during this time. Yeah, earlier in the card he
- 36:49referenced someone being 30, I forget who.
- 36:51In Part 1. We talked about it, but I I
- 36:54thought that was interesting that they're constantly going
- 36:56over that stuff. Yeah, definitely Delo and Mark
- 37:00Henry's music. The nation of domination.
- 37:02Like, oh, man. So don't want to call it remix.
- 37:05Yeah, it's really good, right? Sorry, Matt, go ahead.
- 37:09No, I was going to say, I'm surprised that you didn't talk
- 37:11about that massive sign that they showed during the New Age
- 37:14Outlaws entrance. It was like.
- 37:16Oh yeah, yeah. Looks like yes.
- 37:18Oh, huge. Stencils spray painted onto
- 37:21vinyl but it took up like 3 entire rows and it was the
- 37:25entire shtick of the ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls,
- 37:28children of all ages. It was like everything at word
- 37:31for word. And imagine each each each
- 37:34letter printed out on an individual 8 1/2 by 11 sheet of
- 37:38paper. But that's what the sign looked
- 37:40like. A lot of.
- 37:43Ages. Maybe you're right.
- 37:44It looked like spray painted stencils because you can see
- 37:47like the letters like yeah, on a stencil you have to have two
- 37:51lines that. Yeah.
- 37:53So they worked a little too hard.
- 37:55They didn't have a printer. No, yeah, I think it was just
- 37:58these long vinyl banners that they were literally spray
- 38:01painting word for word. Imagine how long that thing
- 38:03took. Oh my God, it's really 3 rows.
- 38:06It's not just, it's gonna. Get on TV, damn it.
- 38:08Yeah, you know, it started with someone was like, I got a good
- 38:10idea. But it was impressive.
- 38:14It was very impressive. I have no clue what happened in
- 38:17this match. The triple threat tag team match
- 38:21makes zero sense. There's three guys in the ring
- 38:23at a time. And Jr. says you like and you
- 38:26can't pin your partner in the beginning.
- 38:28Like what? Like what?
- 38:29Tag your partner No pin your no your opinion.
- 38:32You're correct. You're correct.
- 38:33Can't pin. Your why would you want to do
- 38:35that? Yeah.
- 38:36Because you would win. That's smart.
- 38:38That's stupid. So.
- 38:40Jim and I, they shouldn't even bring that to the table.
- 38:43Jim and I are A tag team. Mike and Nick are A tag team.
- 38:45Mike tags and Jim, for whatever reason, and then I, and then I
- 38:48pinned Jim 123 and it's over. We win, right?
- 38:50Stupid. Terrible and loose.
- 38:52I have in my notes Do we have to talk about this match because I
- 38:55hated it so much. Let's talk about the headbangers
- 38:57a little. Go go ahead, Mike.
- 38:59You go first. I was gonna say, we can't move
- 39:01on without talking about the bad ass Billy guns.
- 39:05Try Yeah, the end you're talking about I.
- 39:09No, the end like the lips on the.
- 39:10Manta ray? No, no, it's a manta ray eyes or
- 39:13something. And lips, Lips there's.
- 39:17No way it slips it's eyes. No, he has eyes on his ass
- 39:21cheeks it. Seems stranger that he would
- 39:24have manta ray eyes than lips. It's.
- 39:29The It's a set of lips. On each cheek.
- 39:31I can't even. I literally have it on my screen
- 39:33and I can't screenshot it right now because.
- 39:35He was flesh colored and it looks like he's wearing ashless
- 39:38chaps. I'm going to take a picture of
- 39:42my of of my phone right now as I have it up and it is manta ray
- 39:48eyes for sure. I, I I.
- 39:54You know he would have lips on his on his gear previously and.
- 39:58Then there's just no. Line the the the inside of the
- 40:02lips were cut out and it was like a sheer like Lacy kind of
- 40:06thing in its way. So his ass cheeks were hanging
- 40:08out. And then obviously at the end of
- 40:10the match, what Jim didn't want to talk about was after they
- 40:13win, he literally pulls his trunks down and he's just shows
- 40:16off his thong and his ass to the crowd.
- 40:19It's not even a thong, it's like AG string.
- 40:23Yeah, I don't know. It's starting to fall down.
- 40:24Come. On man the the.
- 40:27Other side from hardcam may have seen the whole front, who knows.
- 40:31Gross, gross. So if you guys didn't pick up on
- 40:35it, Billy Gunn has done nothing in this match whatsoever until
- 40:40the end. He jumps on a running mosh to
- 40:43land the Famouser and then a pile driver to retain the Tag
- 40:47Team Championships with a pinfall victory.
- 40:49A. Pile driver was it's 1978 or
- 40:52something. Like, I know the pile driver's a
- 40:55deadly move, but it's not a finishing maneuver like from
- 40:58Mini Gunn in 1999. I'm sorry.
- 41:01Or 98. Did you catch that they called
- 41:04the The Famouser the Rocker dropper instead?
- 41:07I did it. Hadn't been the the famous.
- 41:10So I thought that was an interesting thing.
- 41:13And then at the very end of the match, after, you know, the New
- 41:15Age Outlaws win, Rd. Dogg gets on the mic again and
- 41:18he's winded as hell 'cause that was the story of the match, I
- 41:21guess is, you know, building up the hot tag for Billy Gunn.
- 41:24He's trying to get into the match and you know he's been
- 41:28Road Dogg is kind of trapped on the other side, but it is what
- 41:31it is. The match was awful in my
- 41:33personal, but at the very end, Road Dogg gets the mic and he
- 41:38gets cut off like very, very brief thing and then it just
- 41:42Peacock shuts it off. And I actually went and I found
- 41:45what he said and what got cut off from the, the end of this.
- 41:51So it, it didn't age well. So I'll, I'll tell you that
- 41:54much, which I'm sure you're not surprised by, but he goes butt
- 41:58bangers. Go get your WWF merchandise
- 42:01catalog and see if you can't order up a pair of IC belts.
- 42:06That's all it was. So maybe it was the butt bangers
- 42:08part that they didn't like. But yeah, they're the head
- 42:11bangers. Whatever I thought.
- 42:12It was a lot worse. I thought it was going to be a
- 42:14lot worse. Than that, yeah.
- 42:15I was like bracing for impact there.
- 42:17I was like, Oh yeah, right, bangers.
- 42:21You've said that age poorly, like I feel like the new age
- 42:24outlaws are aged like milk, like I I don't do.
- 42:27Do they even have a finishing move like the combined?
- 42:31I know the famous errors and move right like I can't.
- 42:34Do that? I don't think so.
- 42:35That's that's terrible, right? Like, come on, guys.
- 42:37And then you're there. It is there like the definition
- 42:42of cringe, like you take away the catch phrase too that
- 42:46everybody like joins in on. Like there not much to.
- 42:51No, it's, it's all smoke and mirrors.
- 42:54I think with Jesse James's, you know, the shtick and whatever,
- 42:57whatever, though more importantly, the headbangers
- 43:00think about wait, go ahead. Think about the their two
- 43:03gimmicks like right before that too.
- 43:05Yeah, rockabilly and. And Jesse?
- 43:08Rhodes. Like the singer?
- 43:09Yeah, brutal, Brutal. But anyway, headbangers.
- 43:13I was so curious that this, I thought it was like, I can't, I
- 43:15didn't really remember the headbangers kind of I remember
- 43:18them earlier, right? Like I, I feel like they kind of
- 43:21fell off this point. So I was like kind of even
- 43:22surprised to see them here. But they are at the end of like
- 43:27the very end of their original run, like this version of the
- 43:30Headbangers. And I want to quote Wikipedia
- 43:33one more time because I love to. So right after they're both
- 43:36supposed to be in the Royal Rumble, but Thrasher gets
- 43:39injured. And that's when Mosh repackaged
- 43:42his Beaver cleavage. And then Chaz, he performed in
- 43:45singles competition, began having problems with his on
- 43:47screen girlfriend. Mariana Kamlos.
- 43:49Do you remember this? I don't even know.
- 43:51No. Yeah.
- 43:52Mariana Kamlos got to look that up.
- 43:54So he was kayfabe arrested on an episode of Sunday Night Heat in
- 43:57September after Kamlos claims he hit her after Chaz's match on
- 44:00October 5th. Glenn Ruth Parentheses Slasher
- 44:03show GTV footage of Mariana applying makeup to create the
- 44:06effect of wounds. Like, I don't remember any of
- 44:08this stuff. This proved her accusations
- 44:11false, and the headbanger subsequent subsequently
- 44:13reunited. They then took on a gimmick
- 44:15where they dressed as the opponents that they feuded with,
- 44:18such as the Dudley Boys and Mean St.
- 44:20Posse. The duo later turned heel and
- 44:22began to dress in drag, which included wearing breast cones.
- 44:25That's the end of the Wikipedia note there.
- 44:27Wow, it's like I I remember the breast.
- 44:30Cones, that's for sure. I remember the breast cones.
- 44:32I remember. The gimmick like the the them
- 44:35dressing as their opponents. I vaguely I don't I the Chaz
- 44:39stuff. I remember him going to Chad's
- 44:41first. He was like pissed in kayfabe
- 44:43that he was like given the Bieber cleavage thing.
- 44:46They had a weird run. I wonder if they like stuck
- 44:47around longer, like how they would have interacted with, you
- 44:50know, like the Edge and Christian and Dudley boys.
- 44:53Like they would have tagged team champions, right?
- 44:55Definitely at least one time. Chaz could have been
- 44:58intercontinental champ. That's actually how how explain
- 45:03yourself. I'm kidding.
- 45:05That's just garbage. That's just garbage.
- 45:07That's just garbage. Sorry.
- 45:09All right, let's move on to our finals.
- 45:12Wait, what did Meltzer give that match?
- 45:15Oh, Meltzer gave that match a let's see.
- 45:19Bear with me here, have it one star.
- 45:21Also one star better. Than.
- 45:24Better than rock undertaker. He warmed up at the end here,
- 45:28you know. So the the New Age Outlaws tag
- 45:33finish was the spike pile driver.
- 45:36OK. So Billy Gunn hits it.
- 45:40Yeah. Yeah.
- 45:40Assisted by real dog. That was kind of it.
- 45:42Yeah. Whatever.
- 45:43Terrible. OK.
- 45:44Oh, Mariana Kamlos is the Beaver cleavage missus cleavage.
- 45:49We saw her in the one episode from 98 with the the the dark
- 45:54wedding in the vignette. Yeah, she's jacked.
- 45:57He's a bodybuilder. Yeah, exactly.
- 45:58Yeah, interesting. All right, Our finals of this
- 46:03tournament for the WWF Championship, we've got The Rock
- 46:08facing off against Mankind in a match that goes 17 minutes.
- 46:13Mankind is out first in his normal ring gear.
- 46:16He's he's got his boots on too, thank God.
- 46:19During the Rocks entrance, we go backstage and we see Vince and
- 46:24Shane. They've returned.
- 46:25They're telling Boss Man that he can have the rest of the night
- 46:27off. They want to handle this
- 46:29themselves. Before we go any further, can I
- 46:32just to say how much I missed the Fink?
- 46:36Oh yeah. Who is it here?
- 46:38I I don't even notice it to be. Honest.
- 46:40It's the Fink. Oh, it is the Fink I.
- 46:43Apologize. You're talking about now like
- 46:44you wish he was still with us. Yeah, yeah.
- 46:46Just like reminiscing, like how good he was like during this,
- 46:50like mankind, like it's so good. It does give you the warm and
- 46:56fuzzies anytime you hear Fink. No, he's he's the best along
- 47:01with the Knicks. Mike, you know the PA guy at the
- 47:04Knicks game like those two voices.
- 47:05Game two of my favorites ever in any entertainment.
- 47:09It's Bob Shepherd for me, the Yankees, the voice of.
- 47:12God, that's a good. That's a good one too.
- 47:15Can't deny that one. 100%. So Rock's out next.
- 47:20They, you know, they feel each other out.
- 47:22Jr. lets us know they're they're going to be on the Home Shopping
- 47:26Network. Interesting placement for this
- 47:28during the finals. I'm like, what is he talking
- 47:31about right now and why is he going on about the Home Shopping
- 47:34Network? It's a big deal in 90s, yeah.
- 47:37Immediately to follow Survivor Series, we're gonna be live on
- 47:40the. Home Shopping Network T-shirts
- 47:42and all kinds of stuff. Remember, like, if, like this
- 47:46team that won the Super Bowl, like you're going right to home
- 47:48shopping. Yeah.
- 47:49Hell yeah, all their stuff was going right up.
- 47:52I did not tune into this to watch Jim Ross on the home
- 47:55shipping shopping network. I'm picturing him in like Jr. at
- 47:57behind a table, him and King behind a table like push and
- 48:00merge. I would be great with Percy
- 48:02Pringle. That would be, yeah, that's what
- 48:04I'd want. I'm I'm picturing them with wet
- 48:06spots on their pants because they've been sitting behind the
- 48:09announce desk for four hours and just the pants because they
- 48:12couldn't get up to go to the bathroom.
- 48:13Yeah. Buy an Undertaker shirt.
- 48:16Maybe it's maybe it's just Stew. That's the only guy they have
- 48:19left that's has none of the card.
- 48:20Yeah, yeah, you can buy this ashtray for 999.
- 48:25It's the same one that smashed every that some bitches Bruce
- 48:29Hart's head back in 89. You think he was standing you?
- 48:36Call your own son, Bruce Hart. Mankind slows the match down
- 48:48with a sleeper hold and at this point we get Vince and Shane
- 48:52walking down to ringside. By the way, Earl Heppner is the
- 48:58the referee for this main event, which obviously will be an
- 49:02important part because we are a year removed from the Montreal
- 49:06Screw. Mankind grabs a steel chair and
- 49:10he's leveled by the Rock. 1st of course, does not disqualify him.
- 49:17The first of many chair shots. Yep, he picks up steel steps.
- 49:21Not just an item old. Spot picks up steel steps.
- 49:24This is all on the outside. He goes to drop him on the rock,
- 49:27but rock lands a chair shot onto the steps causing them to drop
- 49:32onto mankind. I feel like that's like an
- 49:34innovative Spot at the time that like, that had to have been
- 49:38Foley's brainchild right there. It feels like fully 100% and I I
- 49:45have an audio of not only, you know, rock pounding on the steel
- 49:49steps, but Jr. calling that gnarly headshot that happens
- 49:53directly afterwards. So I'm going to hit the play.
- 49:55Watch yourself, watch it stop. The brains are scrambled again
- 50:00over easy and well done. Most brain cells have just got
- 50:06to be totally depleted them. Over easy and well done.
- 50:14Aren't those like 2 opposite things?
- 50:18Like the opposite, complete opposites.
- 50:21Maybe that's the point. I don't know.
- 50:22This is crazy because this is the beginning of what we're
- 50:25going to be seeing. Like I think they they fight for
- 50:28the title 7 times in four months or something.
- 50:30It is, which is isn't that crazy.
- 50:32That's nuts, right? So this is the first one too of
- 50:35a classic rivalry, right? So they fight at rock bottom the
- 50:38next month. That's the December in your
- 50:40house. pay-per-view. I don't think it's in your house
- 50:42anymore. The Royal rumbles that I quit
- 50:44match. There's halftime heat somewhere
- 50:46in there right in the Super Bowl.
- 50:48Valentine's Day is last man standing.
- 50:51There's a ladder match on Raw not long after.
- 50:54Think about that. Those were all like insane
- 50:56matches. And this is this is it right
- 50:58here in the beginning, which is pretty cool to see.
- 51:02You can you can say that Mick Foley is instrumental in
- 51:05building The Rock, the biggest, absolutely the biggest superstar
- 51:09to come out of wrestling. And I'm not just saying like
- 51:12Austin Hogan, but we're not talking Mount Rushmore shit.
- 51:16We're talking like he is on top of the world.
- 51:18Every single MF in the world knows who Dwayne Johnson is and
- 51:23Mankind is influential in building that guy.
- 51:26That's exactly why I brought up that point.
- 51:28I was going to save that for the end, all that stuff.
- 51:30But you saying, you know, that spot outside, you know, was like
- 51:35Mick Foley got to be constructing that behind the
- 51:37scenes or setting that up or like to your point that's he's
- 51:41making blowing this guy up and like Rock was ready to go and
- 51:44like to have this kind of partner who was will do these
- 51:47insane things and is that smart in the ring?
- 51:51It's kind of it's electric to watch, right?
- 51:53Oh yeah. I I think Mick Foley and
- 51:57Mankind, we've, we're approaching 200 episodes of
- 52:00this. I think Mankind, Mick Foley is
- 52:04the only wrestler that we've covered excessively and like
- 52:08never had a bad thing to say about.
- 52:10It like he. Is going to be our most beloved
- 52:13like wrestler that we've. Ever covered?
- 52:15On this show. He's on our show around Rush.
- 52:18Matt Rushmore, he. Absolutely has to be.
- 52:22Yeah, I think I was the only one that put him in the the top ten
- 52:25of the superstars list back in whatever episode that was.
- 52:28So. So yeah, suck on that.
- 52:33So Rock, this match just continues to get dirtier and
- 52:37dirtier as we go on. There's Mankind starts
- 52:42delivering low blows to the Rock, follows it up by biting
- 52:45the Rock's face. Again, referee not doing
- 52:47anything, they crawl outside to escape the biting, but Mankind
- 52:51follows him, pushes him on to the announce table, continues to
- 52:54bite him and lands a leg drop on towel.
- 52:57J Rs really selling this whole thing like at at at the table,
- 53:01like get him off, get him off, get these two back in the ring.
- 53:05Reminder that mankind is the frozen corporate champion here.
- 53:12Yep, he just splat and there's one spot, right?
- 53:16So Jr. is talking about the rock and he says he just splat all
- 53:22over the floor and left a sweaty spot.
- 53:27Very interesting for such an intricate man who usually does
- 53:32such a good job. But.
- 53:34Yeah, I know you don't ever see many Jr. fumbles there.
- 53:37Right. And he left a sweaty spot, man.
- 53:42This guy's one later, which we'll get to as well.
- 53:45He stumbles over his words, which is very funny to hear.
- 53:48Mankind tries to elbow drop from the second rope that ends up
- 53:52going through the Spanish and Oz table all on his own rocks using
- 53:59bits and pieces of the table on Mankind.
- 54:03This this match is just like chaos and it's 17 minutes of
- 54:07chaos and I am enjoying it thus far even though I know the
- 54:12direction that we're headed. What top that?
- 54:18They mankind finally takes out Mr. Sacco which is like just
- 54:24looks absolutely filthy. He stuffs it in the rock's mouth
- 54:28from the mandible claw. Rock nearly passes out due to
- 54:31the the like smell of it I'm assuming.
- 54:36And then he, he withstands the sock and jumps it in and pops it
- 54:39into a rock bottom. Rock then like the crowd is
- 54:45going back and forth at this point, right?
- 54:47I feel like they don't know what they want.
- 54:51It ends so abruptly. Rock then pops up, grabs
- 54:55Mankind's legs, puts him in the Sharpshooter, uses the top rope
- 54:59for leverage, and instantly Vince goes over and has them
- 55:04ring the bell. And he gives the He gives the
- 55:06eyebrow first, though, right? He gives the big exaggerated
- 55:10eyebrow to. To Vince to.
- 55:12His yes to Vince and McMahon's outside.
- 55:15And then they they're referencing the Montreal
- 55:17Screwjob at this point and nobody submitted.
- 55:21It's quicker than the Montreal Screwjob.
- 55:24It's like it's so over the top how fast it is.
- 55:27He orders the ref to ring the bell, awards victory and the WWF
- 55:31Championship to The Rock. I don't remember this happening
- 55:37so fast, as fast as it did. After the match, Vince and Shane
- 55:42come into the ring and Vince tells the audience, You have the
- 55:45audio for this. I believe right that.
- 55:48I do you want to hear it? Yes, please.
- 55:51You can believe that Vince McMahon didn't screw the people
- 55:55tonight. The people screwed the people.
- 56:00These fans are star. You can also.
- 56:03You can also believe that each and everyone of you are just as
- 56:07pathetic and gullible as Mankind.
- 56:13Whoa. Vince tells the audience that
- 56:18and then he says how he successfully screwed Steve
- 56:20Austin, Mankind and the people, right?
- 56:23And Mankind comes in. He asks for an explanation and
- 56:27Rock delivers another Rock Bottom as the three of them are
- 56:30celebrating Rock and the Mcmahons and they introduce us
- 56:34to the Corporate Champion. The crowd is like thrown off.
- 56:38Throughout this you get a rare like soda or beer thrown into
- 56:42the ring which is not normal for AWWF.
- 56:45Show awesome. Cheers a lot of.
- 56:49Booths Austin's returned to the arena, he runs the ring, he's
- 56:54met with a beating from the rock that eventually fought back.
- 56:57Tossing the Rock out of the ring, grabs the belt, throws it
- 57:00at the Rock, gives a stunner to mankind and typical Stone Cold
- 57:05Faction as the pay-per-view ends.
- 57:08I couldn't believe that they didn't hit the glass shattering
- 57:12when Austin shows up. Like he just nonchalantly walks
- 57:16out and the crowd like starts to react as they start to see him
- 57:21just standing there and it felt like they just hadn't figured
- 57:24out how important the glass shattering really is to attitude
- 57:28era or Steve. Austin that would have been a
- 57:29pop and 1/2. Imagine that.
- 57:31Imagine that exactly where I was going, Mike.
- 57:33Like, imagine if you actually got that glass shattering and
- 57:37you got the immense eruption because right here the crowd is
- 57:41looking for something to cheer and obviously it's not the Rock,
- 57:45it's not Mankind, it's it's Austin.
- 57:47But Austin just just appears it was very.
- 57:51Strange, you get that pop about like a month and a half later
- 57:56when Mick beats The Rock for the title.
- 58:01You know the classic, the butts in the seats that WCW spoiled
- 58:05there. What?
- 58:08All right, so let's forget about I don't know.
- 58:11I'm I'm torn where you want to go with this with cans and the
- 58:13cooler, Because let's give the whole tournament, not not the
- 58:19whole. I guess we could give the whole
- 58:20card, I mean the whole tournament, the.
- 58:22You don't want to rate those other two included.
- 58:25What did what? What actually what did?
- 58:28What's his face? The whole Starboy give this.
- 58:31He gave this match. What do you think?
- 58:33Take a guess. I'm going to go 1 1/4. 3 1/2
- 58:36that much 3. And a half.
- 58:39Really. Wow.
- 58:40Yeah. He was hard to judge.
- 58:42This match, I think it comes off before we get to the whole
- 58:46rating. I think it it's pretty great for
- 58:49the most part, right, and you see like the potential of where
- 58:52it goes. Obviously, I think it's at its
- 58:54best when Foley's going. He's like feeling it right, Like
- 58:57he's like doing a like doing a double armed DDDDTS there, all
- 59:02that stuff, this Mr. Sacco thing.
- 59:04But I think it's like right there.
- 59:05It's like why? I don't know, the writing just
- 59:08bothers me so much. Like I agree he's giving he's
- 59:11got the mandible call in. Wouldn't the Mcmahons get
- 59:13involved there? I don't understand like right,
- 59:17why they don't do anything? Like, I don't know, some of that
- 59:19stuff just bothers me a lot. Like Hepburn in the bag too,
- 59:22maybe? Maybe, but then the the
- 59:24eyebrows, the eyebrows funny, but like then the sharpshooter,
- 59:28it's like very like in your face like, ha ha.
- 59:31We can do this. Yeah, it's.
- 59:32Like I think it's, I think that's the problem.
- 59:34I the match is 17 minutes and I really enjoyed the match itself.
- 59:38Yeah. The ending, and I know we say
- 59:41this so much on this show and the ending felt like so abrupt.
- 59:46It almost felt felt like like they planned everything in the
- 59:51match right and went through stuff, but they didn't go over
- 59:55the ending and like they weren't on the same page for the ending.
- 1:00:00Because I can remember in the moment as I watched this back,
- 1:00:04like obviously we watched this pay-per-view as homework.
- 1:00:08As I'm watching the ending unfold, I'm like, Oh my God, I
- 1:00:11remember watching this in high school and I remember hating it.
- 1:00:15Like, and I'm someone who even in high school, I was always all
- 1:00:19for the heels. Like I've always been drawn to
- 1:00:22the heels and and end of a turn. I love a turn Who?
- 1:00:26Doesn't love it. Did you hate it?
- 1:00:27Did you want Foley to win? Do you remember like?
- 1:00:29I just remember not liking the ending back then and I still
- 1:00:33don't like it. I think it's sloppy.
- 1:00:35I think it's very quick. I, I just, I, I don't know,
- 1:00:39there's something about it they don't let, like, they don't give
- 1:00:43The Rock enough time to like, get that heat on him at the end
- 1:00:48before Austin comes out. I don't know.
- 1:00:51It's always I think there the problem is the writing and it's
- 1:00:54like Vince Russo, he's like thinks he's more clever than he
- 1:00:57is and he it just that cleverness or so-called
- 1:01:01cleverness gets in the way of what is this is a good match,
- 1:01:06right? Like and it just kind of ruins
- 1:01:08it there. I think I hear you that.
- 1:01:11Was that was like Russo's way of selling it to Vince?
- 1:01:15Being like, listen to my idea. It's going to be great.
- 1:01:18Listen. Bro, we're going to have, you're
- 1:01:20going to be able to take a shot at Brett Hall, right?
- 1:01:24Right I I served that speaking right to his ego too.
- 1:01:27Like, he probably loved that Like.
- 1:01:29It's a year removed and then they're going back to as well
- 1:01:33and they're doing the same thing again and.
- 1:01:35Is it like a meta version of it? It's a meta version, right?
- 1:01:38I mean. Inside baseball at this point,
- 1:01:40is it like, I mean, I didn't know 97 that he's screwing Bret
- 1:01:45Hart and obviously what comes after that and you know, Mr.
- 1:01:48McMahon becoming a character, but it feels like is.
- 1:01:51Wrestling with shadows even out at this point I don't even know.
- 1:01:53Like so it feels. Low brow, like stupid shit that
- 1:01:59you could have avoided and there's no reason to do it
- 1:02:01because you just had this amazing tournament and then,
- 1:02:05well, I guess amazing is giving it too much credit.
- 1:02:07But you have this long ass tournament throughout the entire
- 1:02:10evening and it's going to end on a joke and a hit towards Bret
- 1:02:15Hart, who's not even at your company.
- 1:02:17Like I just, I don't. Understand.
- 1:02:19And I think, I think my problem with it on top of the ending is,
- 1:02:23and maybe I'm too trained by like modern day and stuff that
- 1:02:27they've done after this, the whole portion with Vince
- 1:02:30grabbing the mic afterwards, it feels totally unnecessary.
- 1:02:34Like that's the kind of thing that I want to see on like Raw
- 1:02:37the next night. I don't want to see him get on
- 1:02:39the mic and explain himself that he screwed the crowd like.
- 1:02:44He's utterly, utterly and tauterly.
- 1:02:46That's those His. Yeah.
- 1:02:48Like we don't you're, you're, you're telling us that you
- 1:02:50screwed us. It's just, it seems so
- 1:02:53unnecessary and so extra at the end of this.
- 1:02:56It's, I don't know, I think it's.
- 1:02:58It spoils a lot of it. It's Vince.
- 1:03:00It's got to be about him at this point, right?
- 1:03:02Like. That's what this that's what
- 1:03:03this feels like. And obviously that's the story
- 1:03:05throughout the evening. But it's Vince screwing Austin
- 1:03:08inevitably. And then of course the corporate
- 1:03:10champion and all that shit. But like, it just feels like
- 1:03:14it's out of turn. I don't know, it just it doesn't
- 1:03:17land like Russo wants it to land.
- 1:03:20And just real quick, Wrestling With Shadows released on
- 1:03:23December 20th, 1998. So it was.
- 1:03:26Not out right after this, it's right after.
- 1:03:27This. Interesting.
- 1:03:30Yeah. So yeah.
- 1:03:32So let's give and you can include the ending.
- 1:03:35Give the whole thing the whole Survivor Series 1998 cans in the
- 1:03:39cooler. Who's going first?
- 1:03:42Shy. Shy go there's.
- 1:03:43A very few times where I sit back and I'm like, I wish we
- 1:03:47didn't watch that. There's very few times.
- 1:03:49Maybe the Hacksaw Jim Duggan episode where we that may be the
- 1:03:53only episode. You weren't even on that one,
- 1:03:57Jim. Oh yeah, damn, I missed that
- 1:04:00one. That's the only one where I was
- 1:04:01like, oh man, I really regret doing that.
- 1:04:03But this even saying that like there this isn't that low where
- 1:04:08it goes to that point, but I feel like maybe 3 cans in the
- 1:04:12cooler is me being generous to this entire card.
- 1:04:15Like it's it's arduous task to get through the first half.
- 1:04:19And I talked about that in the first part of like it was really
- 1:04:22tough to watch some of these short matches.
- 1:04:24The big boss man, who we just heaped praise on in the 1998 raw
- 1:04:28episode and being such an unsung hero.
- 1:04:31And I guess you can kind of say the same thing here.
- 1:04:33The boss man is an unsung hero of the night, and he's not even
- 1:04:36there at the end, even with the botch that we learned from
- 1:04:38Pritchard. But I'm going to go with cans
- 1:04:41and the cooler of three. I, I, I don't know why it said
- 1:04:43it that way, Three cans and the cooler, because I just, I don't
- 1:04:47know, man. It was tough to get through, but
- 1:04:49there's so much history in this card too, and Jim even brought
- 1:04:53more light to it with the Mankind and and Rock stuff that
- 1:04:57I didn't even think of. I was thinking about how this is
- 1:04:59a crash course for Austin, turning The Rock into a main
- 1:05:03event star because they're on a crash course for WrestleMania 15
- 1:05:08where they're going to face off in the main event and you're
- 1:05:09bringing The Rock from the mid card guy who was battling with
- 1:05:13Triple H and, and through that and now he's the corporate
- 1:05:15champion. And I don't know, there's so
- 1:05:17much attitude in history that it's sitting at a three for me.
- 1:05:21But I still think it's generous for what we watched action wise
- 1:05:24throughout the match or throughout the evening.
- 1:05:26Yeah, I, I'm, I was coming in at 2.5 and you swayed me to say 2
- 1:05:32actually because I think 2.5 is too generous.
- 1:05:35The only like redeeming value in this for me is that you got the
- 1:05:39through line of rock kind of finishing his circuit with
- 1:05:43Shamrock and then launching into this thing with Mankind, which
- 1:05:47someone, I I read someone, I was going to say his name because
- 1:05:50there was a good point. Connor Odell, the fight forever
- 1:05:53feature some some website. You can Google that you'll find
- 1:05:55it. But he says this is the feud
- 1:05:57that sealed the Monday Night Wars for WWE, and that's Mankind
- 1:06:02and and The Rock, of course. But but that's the Yeah, I
- 1:06:06thought that was kind of interesting, like an
- 1:06:07interesting. I love the levity that you're
- 1:06:09adding to the importance of mankind and rock.
- 1:06:12It makes me want to go back and like revisit more.
- 1:06:14And we do have a 90. Seven, I mean seven matches in
- 1:06:17four months is pretty wild. Like halftime heat, like and
- 1:06:20probably WF at its apex. Aside from everybody watching
- 1:06:24the the halftime heat, it's the Super Bowl.
- 1:06:27It was the IT was the halftime. But but yeah, but the whole
- 1:06:30event though, oh man, everything just feels like filler except
- 1:06:34for a couple of decent matches. It's a 2 card match.
- 1:06:38It's a two match card. Excuse me.
- 1:06:40It's Mankind. Mankind in Austin.
- 1:06:42Mankind in rock. That's Fast forward.
- 1:06:44Fast kind of the MVP of this thing, no?
- 1:06:46Yeah. Him and boss man.
- 1:06:48Yeah, Mike, what do you mean? So I mean, has there ever been
- 1:06:57such, such a oh, pay-per-view is like anomalous?
- 1:07:04I feel like a lot of people regard it very highly looking
- 1:07:08back, but like the people looking back at it so fondly yet
- 1:07:17the wrestling is actually dog shit.
- 1:07:19Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:07:21Like it's like a oxymoron, kind of like, I don't know, what
- 1:07:25would you say like about that? It's, yeah, it's, let me think
- 1:07:30on it, you continue your point. So yeah, I know exactly what
- 1:07:33you're saying. I think the story of this whole
- 1:07:37event and it's been kind of like building for like the whole
- 1:07:43several months. I think the story is phenomenal.
- 1:07:47I think, yeah, the whole story of like the whole tournament,
- 1:07:51this, everything is like coming together.
- 1:07:54All these guys having feuds, like even like Al Snow and like
- 1:07:58Jeff Jarrett had a feud and like they're like finishing their
- 1:08:01thing and he's got the Socko wrapped around head, you know,
- 1:08:07like a lot of like little things, like the story wise, I
- 1:08:11think I would give the story wise the pay-per-view of 55 cans
- 1:08:17in the cooler. But you know, it's not just all
- 1:08:22story. No, yes.
- 1:08:25So, you know, allow all that other stuff kind of brings it
- 1:08:28down a little bit. But I think total I would give
- 1:08:34it 4 cans in the cooler. That's my.
- 1:08:37That's my. He's a you forget he's a big
- 1:08:40rock guy especially. I was I I enjoyed the him
- 1:08:45turning heel too back then. I bet, yeah.
- 1:08:47I loved the heels and I loved the rock and like, I was like
- 1:08:50all about it. I.
- 1:08:51He was going all face like hotshot face.
- 1:08:54Yeah, I was like, man, I didn't. I didn't love that.
- 1:08:57That part where he was like. I think you.
- 1:09:00I think you, you have a really good point.
- 1:09:03I think the story of this thing had so much potential to be like
- 1:09:09I I think unfortunately you had a dope writing the story and
- 1:09:13like someone, someone had a really good idea, let's say, and
- 1:09:17I'm sure it was Vince Russo and they, it's like someone said,
- 1:09:20here's a story idea, go write it.
- 1:09:23And they gave it to Vince Russo and he wrote it.
- 1:09:26And it's not as good as it could have been if a better writer
- 1:09:31were to have had his hand on it. You know what?
- 1:09:33I. Mean like I wrote something and
- 1:09:35then like Jim's there like. No, but no, no, no.
- 1:09:40Like I know exactly what you're saying.
- 1:09:42He didn't like it's just him. It feels like there's no team
- 1:09:44involved. There's a lot of holes in the
- 1:09:46story. That's a great idea.
- 1:09:47Let me help you flesh that out. Right, right.
- 1:09:50It's like he need would have benefited from, you know that a
- 1:09:52lot of people shit all over wrestling, especially WWFWWE in
- 1:09:58more recent years, how they have a whole writing team and stuff.
- 1:10:02But Vince Russo could. Have benefited yes 100%.
- 1:10:05I think the the intertwined story throughout the card and
- 1:10:09like you said the build I think could have worked and it could
- 1:10:12have been a 55 can story. The delivery I don't think I
- 1:10:17think the ending is sloppy as all hell.
- 1:10:20Originally I had it at 3. Matt and Jim started to talk me
- 1:10:24down to a 2 1/2. Then Mike brought me back in
- 1:10:27again because I remembered that the story I am all thrown off
- 1:10:30right now so I'm staying with my original rating of I do.
- 1:10:34I do think again as I watched it I was like this story has even I
- 1:10:38don't think I've ever rewatched this pay-per-view growing up.
- 1:10:41I think I watched it one and done.
- 1:10:44I had it on tape from Coliseum Video.
- 1:10:45Whatever, like the yeah yeah Yeah edition was at that point.
- 1:10:49I think again, there was so much potential to it, but as I
- 1:10:53watched it back too, I it also made me think like Survivor
- 1:10:58Series is clearly the worst of the big four pay per views like
- 1:11:03there is outside of the Montreal Screwjob.
- 1:11:06Like there is not much like Survivor Series history that is
- 1:11:11like significant in my and like, I'm sure someone's going to come
- 1:11:15on the Discord and prove me wrong by all means.
- 1:11:18No, no, screw you man. I'm going to fall asleep to
- 1:11:21Survivors Survivor Series 90 tonight.
- 1:11:23Watch my survivor planes matches my palette.
- 1:11:27Are overrated. They're fun.
- 1:11:29They're fun, but they're wildly overrated.
- 1:11:31I would say watching one of those over this card any day of
- 1:11:35the week, even the week the weakest Survivor Series 95 with
- 1:11:39like, yes, they're the wild card.
- 1:11:41The wild card those are. But again, those Survivor Series
- 1:11:45matches are fun, but they never did anything to advance any
- 1:11:48storylines in my and they never closed out any storylines.
- 1:11:53No, titles never changed because they were all like in teams.
- 1:11:58Again. You know, it's, come on, it's
- 1:11:59Thanksgiving Eve. It's so down.
- 1:12:01We don't even need a title changes like let's turn on.
- 1:12:03You know, I watch, I love, let's watch the Vipers against the,
- 1:12:07you know, the what's, what's Martel's team, the visionaries.
- 1:12:11There's the rude. Rude it had again and again.
- 1:12:15It is what it is. I I would like to know how many
- 1:12:19Thanksgiving Eve Knight's Survivor Series actually aired
- 1:12:22on because I think in our head it's more than it actually.
- 1:12:24Was I think it was like 3 once or twice too.
- 1:12:26It's. Probably 2.
- 1:12:28Yeah, take out the pen mat. Sorry.
- 1:12:30One more point on this card, you said in the previous episode
- 1:12:34that and I agree with you that you hate when and like the king
- 1:12:37of the ring would be like just the semifinals, right?
- 1:12:39The three matches, I agree with that.
- 1:12:43However, this 14 is too many. Like why not?
- 1:12:4514 is too many quarterfinals and on Yeah, yeah, it could have
- 1:12:49been 8. There's a it's insane.
- 1:12:51Like what would we do in here? Yes, yeah, it's too many.
- 1:12:55I I agree with it. That was too many.
- 1:12:58That's why. That's why you got 2 minute
- 1:13:00matches that had. Yes, I think that's why those
- 1:13:03matches were every match. Oh yeah, I mean, but it was
- 1:13:06arduous task, like I said, to get through the first half
- 1:13:09because of that. And sure, I mean, the
- 1:13:12storytelling throughout, it was very attitude era.
- 1:13:14There's a a through line throughout and it was like fun
- 1:13:18to watch everything come together at the end.
- 1:13:20And it was one big, you know, nice neat bow at the end.
- 1:13:24And even though the the the finish itself was a little wonky
- 1:13:28or a little lackluster, I guess is a better word it, I don't
- 1:13:31know, it feels like a quintessential Attitude Era
- 1:13:35story, and that's a good thing. And I'm glad that Mike heaped
- 1:13:38some praise on it from a storyline perspective of being
- 1:13:41a. Storyline.
- 1:13:42It was fantastic. It's.
- 1:13:43It's you know, I guess what what else does there to say?
- 1:13:45But it's a deadly game. You know, it's just a deadly
- 1:13:49game to. Go back to go back to the
- 1:13:51Survivor Series thought after this Survivor Series 1999.
- 1:13:56I don't think I could tell you anything of significance that
- 1:13:59happened that any other Survivor Series after this.
- 1:14:03The Alliance 1 is not bad, right?
- 1:14:05But I don't remember what happened was.
- 1:14:07The next year, the one that Austin got ran over, I think.
- 1:14:11Again, my rikishi. Yeah.
- 1:14:14Yeah, don't I don't, I don't recall.
- 1:14:16I did it for the Rock. Doesn't Survivor Series doesn't
- 1:14:20Michaels have poopy pants in the one?
- 1:14:21Like he's got brown pants but they have the Elimination
- 1:14:24Chamber. That's 2000.
- 1:14:25Two. Yeah, that's what's here at the
- 1:14:27garden. I like and you were as a
- 1:14:30Survivor Series match hater that you've come out now and and
- 1:14:34claim to be this. They're like it's Survivor
- 1:14:36Series matches are up there with the Bushwhackers now I feel
- 1:14:39like. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
- 1:14:41no, do not. Do not they're not that bad.
- 1:14:44We we got. The 2015 subscribers, That's a
- 1:14:48good one. The Sting 1, the debut and one
- 1:14:51Survivor Series match that was like the one time match.
- 1:14:55They could work one man show on on that.
- 1:14:58They work and they're fun, but. They're all, they're all one
- 1:15:00offs, pretty. Especially the early.
- 1:15:02Ones and again, I hated the ending of this one back in 98
- 1:15:07and I still not a fan of the way that they delivered the ending.
- 1:15:11It felt cheap and it's like reading a good book and the
- 1:15:15whole book's good and then you get to the end and you're like,
- 1:15:17oh shit, like that is really how we're going to end this thing or
- 1:15:21ATV show. Like how people feel at the end
- 1:15:24when the finale sucks. If this work book could have a
- 1:15:26lot of typos and like you know, someone's name changes halfway
- 1:15:30through. Either way, as per usual and I
- 1:15:35hope anybody that's listening feels the way that we feel like
- 1:15:39even if we watch crap and when we sit down and talk about crap
- 1:15:44it it's fun like and that's that's the end game.
- 1:15:48That's why we do this. Podcast and that's why we do
- 1:15:51this so hopefully you guys can reminisce and give us some input
- 1:15:55on how you felt about the 98 Survivor Series.
- 1:15:59So next episode that we dropped for you guys, it actually lines
- 1:16:04up right around John Cena's retirement match, and we're
- 1:16:09going to be covering John Cena versus JBL in an I quit match.
- 1:16:15Matt has been clamoring for this match.
- 1:16:17Oh. Yeah, I have.
- 1:16:18For years and I've been right there with him because there's,
- 1:16:23I think I've already watched it and there's a lot, a lot of fun
- 1:16:26stuff, a lot of fun spots. It's going to be a good one.
- 1:16:30Don't you feel like Matt, you know, like when a famous person
- 1:16:33dies, like the obituaries come out instantly because they have
- 1:16:35it written like 10 years in advance.
- 1:16:37Just updated it. Matt has all these notes already
- 1:16:40like ready to go. No, I think the only match that
- 1:16:44I have the notes prepared for is Triple H versus Mankind at Royal
- 1:16:49Rumble 2000. Only one that I'm.
- 1:16:52Our last episode ever. All right, you were ready to.
- 1:16:56Hang. His test is over.
- 1:16:57That's what it is. Guys, I can't do this anymore.
- 1:17:00Wait, you promised me? I have the the VHS cassette tape
- 1:17:05right here on the shelf behind me.
- 1:17:07Yeah. Once you can uncover the lost
- 1:17:10episode that was recorded and completely lost then.
- 1:17:14We rerecorded it. It was like Episode 16.
- 1:17:18God damn it, we're at 200 and you're still bringing this?
- 1:17:20Shit I feel like that episode was 5% a sable entrance to you.
- 1:17:27Very. Like 5 snaps of her whip.
- 1:17:32Did she have a whip at one point?
- 1:17:34Yeah, definitely. She had a whip.
- 1:17:36OK. All right.
- 1:17:38Well. Hope you guys enjoyed this.
- 1:17:40Thank you again. Happy Thanksgiving to everybody.
- 1:17:44We really appreciate you guys and we are very thankful for all
- 1:17:47of you. Yeah, we'll be back for Cena's
- 1:17:51retirement match and I'm looking forward to it, guys.
- 1:17:54And then right after that, we got a holiday episode.
- 1:17:57Oh baby. As we approach five years and
- 1:18:00episode 200. So we look forward to it.
- 1:18:03Tell all your friends about the Extra Cooler show available
- 1:18:06wherever you get your podcasts. We'll see you guys later.
- 1:18:10Gobble gobble, bitches. Wow.
- 1:18:11What the hell 3? Of them.
