- 0:07SPEAKER_00: A codex of untold stories and lore?
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: Or perhaps simply easy listening for your daily commute.
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: Then feast your eyes, or more accurately, yes, upon Dungeon Pedia.
- 0:19SPEAKER_00: Shit's about to get nerdy in here.
- 0:47SPEAKER_06: And I'm Travis Peasley.
- 0:50SPEAKER_05: So um okay.
- 0:53SPEAKER_05: So everything happens so much, okay?
- 0:58SPEAKER_03: Um, well, mostly because we knew about the first week.
- 1:01SPEAKER_03: We had a feeling because Lou and got cats, and then we're like, okay, well let's just play it by ear, and then it was like Yeah, no.
- 1:09SPEAKER_05: No.
- 1:09SPEAKER_05: No, because they're they're they're so tiny.
- 1:13SPEAKER_03: And then I got sick for the first time in like a year, like really truly sick.
- 1:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:20SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 1:20SPEAKER_06: That was which was fun.
- 1:22SPEAKER_05: You know, you don't you don't exactly plan for that.
- 1:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:26SPEAKER_03: Like I was so sick that I forgot to, you know, remind like we forgot to make a post about it until several days later.
- 1:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah, cuz I was uh pretty pretty messed up.
- 1:38SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it um yeah.
- 1:40SPEAKER_05: And I was lost in the in the sauce of motherhood motherhood.
- 1:47SPEAKER_03: The motherhood sauce.
- 1:50SPEAKER_05: No, that's okay.
- 1:51SPEAKER_05: That's I that's worse.
- 1:52SPEAKER_05: That's um that's actually a slang term for nope.
- 1:56SPEAKER_05: Nope.
- 1:57SPEAKER_05: Okay, bad.
- 1:58SPEAKER_05: Very bad.
- 1:59SPEAKER_05: No, you know what's not bad though, it's my cats.
- 2:01SPEAKER_05: Go go on Twitter and look at pictures of them.
- 2:05SPEAKER_05: At sniper wifel.
- 2:06SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I was gonna say, I'll probably start using my actual personal, like, well, I say using posting on my personal Twitter again more legitimately, it's just gonna be a fan account for my cats.
- 2:16SPEAKER_05: Because they're so cute.
- 2:19SPEAKER_05: They are precious.
- 2:20SPEAKER_05: I love how they would have a it wouldn't just be they would have a fan account.
- 2:23SPEAKER_05: Because there's they're stars, in my opinion.
- 2:26SPEAKER_05: Especially star.
- 2:29SPEAKER_05: Travis just making a face at me.
- 2:31SPEAKER_05: You know, honestly, I said that and then I remembered that what I named one of my one of my I literally almost said children, what I named one of my kittens, and I was like, that wasn't supposed to be a pun, but thank you for pointing it out, Taylor.
- 2:44SPEAKER_05: Anyway, life happens.
- 2:45SPEAKER_05: Everything happens so much.
- 2:47SPEAKER_03: Yeah, but anyway.
- 2:49SPEAKER_03: We're here now! Yeah, and um, since I'm a completionist, we're gonna continue on our deep dive into the lamps of the genies.
- 2:56SPEAKER_05: Ooh.
- 2:57SPEAKER_05: The lamps or the flasks, or the planes, or the gemstones, or the whatever you just trap them into.
- 3:05SPEAKER_05: Whatever other receptacles, the uh the the not gonna disclose the brand, mostly empty water bottles that you can put merits in.
- 3:15SPEAKER_03: Poor merits.
- 3:16SPEAKER_03: Um, as a quick little refresher, uh genies are incredibly powerful elemental spirit beings for from the specifically the ones we talked about previously are from the four individual like planes of elements.
- 3:33SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 3:34SPEAKER_05: They're they're elemental energy given manifest in a in a humanoid body with a soul.
- 3:43SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 3:43SPEAKER_03: Um, but they don't have a soul because the soul is basically a catalyst, a catalyst.
- 3:48SPEAKER_05: Right, okay, that's how that works.
- 3:50SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 3:50SPEAKER_03: Uh they originally come from uh Arabic mythology, and a lot of their names have to do with that except for the Tao.
- 3:58SPEAKER_03: But yeah.
- 3:59SPEAKER_05: We just say we discussed uh Taylor's game theory for why that is last time.
- 4:04SPEAKER_05: Which is basically it was a placeholder.
- 4:07SPEAKER_05: Yeah, but that's just the theory.
- 4:08SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 4:09SPEAKER_05: Um aga nope.
- 4:11SPEAKER_05: Not gonna steal that one.
- 4:13SPEAKER_03: So, real quick, we talked about the gin, which uh or specifically the gin genie genie.
- 4:20SPEAKER_03: Um the plural of gin.
- 4:23SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 4:23SPEAKER_03: The gin, which are the air genies, the uh uh Efridi, which are the fire genies.
- 4:31SPEAKER_03: The assholes that nobody likes, the Tao, which are the earth genies, and the Merids, which are the water genies.
- 4:39SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 4:40SPEAKER_06: Which just saying I'm pretty sure the plural of each of those is just the It actually depends.
- 4:47SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 4:48SPEAKER_03: Like I think Jin and Ginny uh and genie are uh like genie is actually the individual for Jin.
- 4:56SPEAKER_03: It's weird.
- 4:57SPEAKER_05: Oh okay, yeah, no, I get it.
- 4:58SPEAKER_05: It's kind of like um, yeah.
- 5:00SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 5:01SPEAKER_05: Amount nouns are hard.
- 5:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 5:03SPEAKER_03: Uh I actually had a look at this earlier because um now that we've covered the four main elemental genies, we're gonna talk about the um offshoots for lack of a better word.
- 5:13SPEAKER_03: They're considered true genies, so there's really not much of a distinction other than that they don't really fit neatly into the four elemental planes, and they have not been in any source material since second or third edition, depending on the genie.
- 5:26SPEAKER_03: So that's why they're kind of separate.
- 5:29SPEAKER_05: Oh, okay.
- 5:29SPEAKER_05: So it's kind of like those, um like it the the I feel like the definition can sometimes get a little vague for these, maybe in the same way that the definition of a true dragon can get a little vague.
- 5:41SPEAKER_05: Yeah, basically they're genie, they they they're in that they're in that ballpark.
- 5:49SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 5:50SPEAKER_05: I'm sure I mean I'm sure the the distinctions and stuff will become a little bit more apparent later on as we as we actually discuss them.
- 5:57SPEAKER_03: Uh first up we have the Jan, and actually the singular of Jan is Janny, which is why I was looking into the singulars and plurals of everything.
- 6:06SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 6:07SPEAKER_03: The Jan were introduced in first edition alongside their more elementally specific cousins.
- 6:12SPEAKER_03: Jan are actually formed from all four elements and spend their lives on the material plane.
- 6:17SPEAKER_03: They're also the weakest of the genie of the genies.
- 6:20unknown: Hmm.
- 6:20SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 6:21SPEAKER_03: Maybe it's has something to do with like the four elements sort of neutralizing each other.
- 6:26SPEAKER_03: Maybe it's because they're made of less pure stuff.
- 6:28SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 6:29SPEAKER_03: Hmm.
- 6:30SPEAKER_03: Uh they appear as like these tall, powerfully built humans or half elves.
- 6:35SPEAKER_05: Okay, well, no, so the the most important quality is still there.
- 6:39SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 6:39SPEAKER_05: They're buff.
- 6:40SPEAKER_05: Or excuse me, powerfully built.
- 6:43SPEAKER_05: They're buff.
- 6:44SPEAKER_03: Um, as is the nature of genies, they're very attractive.
- 6:47SPEAKER_05: Oh, and they're hot too.
- 6:48SPEAKER_05: Can't forget that.
- 6:49SPEAKER_05: Those are the two most important qualities, buff and hot.
- 6:52SPEAKER_03: If you're buff, hot, and have something to do with some sort of elemental stuff, you're probably a genie.
- 6:58SPEAKER_03: Hmm.
- 6:58SPEAKER_03: Hmm.
- 6:59SPEAKER_05: Recontextualizing a lot of things in my brain.
- 7:02SPEAKER_05: Anyway.
- 7:03SPEAKER_03: They're about six or seven feet tall with um dark, like human-colored dark skin.
- 7:09SPEAKER_05: Right, so not like the not like not like the the you like you get like that kind of pure like gray, like coal black kind of but like dark brown.
- 7:22SPEAKER_05: Gotcha.
- 7:23SPEAKER_03: Um, and supernaturally colored eyes.
- 7:25SPEAKER_05: The smile seed, do not steal.
- 7:27SPEAKER_03: Uh Jan, speak Kalman, and then one elemental language, either Aquin or an Ingan and Terran, and one alignment language, Abyssal, Celestial, or Infernal.
- 7:38SPEAKER_03: Huh.
- 7:38SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 7:39SPEAKER_06: Oh yeah, I forgot that it was alignment languages.
- 7:42SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 7:42SPEAKER_03: Oh, I remember those.
- 7:44SPEAKER_03: I mean, technically they still exist if now we classify more of them as planar languages.
- 7:51SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 7:51SPEAKER_05: Like, you know, obviously Abyssal and and what have you, those languages do still exist, but like you said, they're not.
- 7:57SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 7:58SPEAKER_05: They spe God, they s they speak lawful.
- 8:01SPEAKER_05: Fuck.
- 8:01SPEAKER_05: Shh.
- 8:04SPEAKER_03: Um, so the Jan favor forlorn deserts and hidden oases, where they have both privacy and safety.
- 8:11SPEAKER_03: Jan society is very open and treats their males and females as equals.
- 8:17SPEAKER_03: More on that later.
- 8:18SPEAKER_03: Uh, each tribe is ruled by a sheik and one or two viziers.
- 8:22SPEAKER_03: Uh, exceptionally powerful sheikhs are given the title of Amir, and in times of need they gather and command exception like large forces of Jan and sometimes their allied humans.
- 8:32SPEAKER_03: Jan were usually friendly towards strangers within their desert territories, especially humans.
- 8:37SPEAKER_03: Uh they did not show preference or malcontent towards any race over the other, preferring to judge people based on their actions.
- 8:44SPEAKER_05: I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop.
- 8:46SPEAKER_05: Because these guys sound very nice and chill and cool, especially in comparison to some of the societal structures we discussed for the other types of genies.
- 8:55SPEAKER_03: Their alignment is usually neutral.
- 8:57SPEAKER_05: I'm wait- I'm waiting.
- 8:58SPEAKER_05: I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop.
- 9:00SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 9:02SPEAKER_03: Uh, Jan are often ruled by their sheiks more than any great nobles or caliphs, or in this case, their Amir.
- 9:09SPEAKER_03: They see their sheiks every day while they might only visit others once a year at some sort of great gathering.
- 9:15SPEAKER_03: Uh, the like I said previously, the overall leader is called an Amir, and which Amir they follow depends on where the Jan lives.
- 9:24SPEAKER_03: In the Forgotten Realms, the Jan are split into two main areas: the High Desert, which is ruled by Amir, Baldin, Al-Mutja, Al Muta Mutajiali.
- 9:37SPEAKER_03: And the Haunted Lands is ruled by Amir Hidar Khan.
- 9:42SPEAKER_03: Spooky.
- 9:44SPEAKER_03: Many Jan bands are nomadic and they travel with herds of camels, goats, or sheep from Oasis to Oasis.
- 9:51SPEAKER_03: The Jan are often actually mistaken for humans until they're attacked because they're exceptionally more powerful than humans.
- 9:58SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 9:59SPEAKER_03: They have a lot of spell-like abilities like all the other genies, as well as um they can turn themselves invisible and become ethereal, and they can also fly.
- 10:11SPEAKER_03: Oh.
- 10:11SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 10:12SPEAKER_03: Just yeah.
- 10:14SPEAKER_03: I mean, much like the other genies.
- 10:16SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 10:16SPEAKER_03: I mean, like, it's easy to like think of them as kind of like human genie hybrids, but they're not genasi.
- 10:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 10:26SPEAKER_05: They're still genies.
- 10:27SPEAKER_05: They're just they're just genies that I guess are more than humans.
- 10:33SPEAKER_05: And have more in common with humans, yeah.
- 10:36SPEAKER_03: The territory of a Jan tribe can extend for hundreds of miles.
- 10:40SPEAKER_03: Their camps are more lavish than most nomad camps.
- 10:43SPEAKER_03: Um, as in, they have these huge mansions and towering fortresses which can vanish into the stands when they're discovered.
- 10:49SPEAKER_03: Uh, quote unquote, like a dream fading in the morning light.
- 10:54SPEAKER_06: Or like a mirage.
- 10:55SPEAKER_03: Or like a mirage.
- 10:56SPEAKER_05: That was, I was, I I thank you, because I was like, what's that word for that thing that fades like a dream fading in the morning light?
- 11:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that that the that the desert do.
- 11:06SPEAKER_03: That the desert.
- 11:08SPEAKER_05: The desert do.
- 11:09SPEAKER_05: Oh right.
- 11:09SPEAKER_05: Thank you, Travis.
- 11:11SPEAKER_03: Uh on more on the elemental planes, Jan are typically servants, mercenaries, or slaves of the greater genies.
- 11:19SPEAKER_05: Alright.
- 11:20SPEAKER_05: Okay, now you had mentioned the Jan specifically uh in this context, I think, last time.
- 11:26SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 11:26SPEAKER_03: Um, however, on the Prime, they adopted the role of guardians of the wild reachers, reaches of deserts.
- 11:33SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 11:33SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 11:34SPEAKER_03: There are proud people who repaid insults and impropriety accordingly.
- 11:38SPEAKER_03: They were hospitalized hospitable to travelers who showed that they deserved the treatment and who treated the Jan with the same respect that they were afforded.
- 11:46SPEAKER_03: Nice.
- 11:47SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 11:47SPEAKER_03: As I previously mentioned, males and females had the same status in Jan society.
- 11:52SPEAKER_03: Uh both men and women could have a number of different spouses.
- 11:55SPEAKER_03: Um traditional in the cult in their culture.
- 11:59SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 11:59SPEAKER_03: Um by tradition, a married man lived in or near the tent of his family, and married women lived in or near the tent of their spouse's family until they married again, at which point a neutral site was chosen.
- 12:10SPEAKER_05: Huh.
- 12:11SPEAKER_05: That's that's kind of cool.
- 12:12SPEAKER_06: That sounds like it would get so confusing so quickly.
- 12:15SPEAKER_03: Right, yeah.
- 12:18SPEAKER_03: Children were granted their own tents in the event that a tent became too small for a growing family.
- 12:23SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 12:26SPEAKER_05: It's just like a rotating, like, yeah, we're gonna spend uh yeah, we're gonna we're gonna spend Thanksgiving at uh and they just like go down the list of like, alright, your third cousin's second husband's tent this year.
- 12:44SPEAKER_05: Sound good?
- 12:45SPEAKER_05: Great.
- 12:46SPEAKER_03: It's um important to note that it a lot of the genies have sort of a communal um that's yeah society in general, so a lot of the times any sort of gathering would probably be like everyone in the tribe.
- 12:59SPEAKER_05: Yeah, just kinda yeah, yeah, like fucking tailgating it outside their tents.
- 13:05SPEAKER_03: The Jan are on excellent terms with the Jinn, and in an emergency, the Jan will send a messenger to the elemental plane of air to request reinforcements.
- 13:14SPEAKER_03: The Jan tolerate the Efreat, who you know tend to be foul-tempered, and take advantage of any hospital hospitality offered to them while offering literal little in return.
- 13:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 13:26SPEAKER_03: Um similarly, the Jan tolerate the Tao, but often with thinly veiled hostility, because Jan are often captives in the Tao's name.
- 13:36SPEAKER_03: Uh the Merids are treated as the royalty they consider themselves to be, but their visits to the water-stricken deserts are infrequent.
- 13:46SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 13:47SPEAKER_05: That yeah.
- 13:48SPEAKER_05: That's interesting, though.
- 13:50SPEAKER_05: I think it's it makes sense to me that they get along with the uh the djinn.
- 13:55SPEAKER_05: But you know, I think these guys are just really nice, honestly.
- 14:00SPEAKER_05: Because I I was was getting the sense that they probably would not would be like very much not big fans, especially of the Efrite and the Tao.
- 14:10SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 14:10SPEAKER_05: But they're they're just like they literally like They're like that member of the family who's just like just trying to keep the peace.
- 14:19SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 14:20SPEAKER_05: They're just like the glue at any family gathering, like you know, it makes sense.
- 14:24SPEAKER_03: They are made up of all four elements.
- 14:27SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah.
- 14:32SPEAKER_03: Um, Jan have a maximum lifespan of 300 years.
- 14:35SPEAKER_06: That seems relatively short compared to what I was thinking.
- 14:38SPEAKER_05: Yeah, no, that that and that's DD changes you, man, because you said that, and I was like, oh, that's pretty that's really short when, you know, yeah, we're we're humans on the the real the real Earth prime, you know, when we live anywhere from like an average of like 80 to 100-ish.
- 14:58SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 14:58SPEAKER_05: And I'm like, yeah, 300 years is short.
- 15:00SPEAKER_05: DD changes you, man.
- 15:02SPEAKER_03: Um, it's important to note that um at least in uh as of 3.5 edition, um, which actually was the last time the Jan were mentioned, their souls and bodies were not divided.
- 15:15SPEAKER_03: They were the only genies who could still be resurrected if they died of unnatural causes and maintain and it's not that it's because they maintained a connection to the material plane.
- 15:24SPEAKER_05: Oh, that's interesting.
- 15:26SPEAKER_03: Hmm.
- 15:27SPEAKER_03: Uh Jan, by the way, is another interchangeable word for Jinn and Genie in uh in Arabic.
- 15:35SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 15:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah, so that's where that comes from.
- 15:38SPEAKER_03: Next up we have the Kayal spelled K-H A-Y-A-L.
- 15:44SPEAKER_03: These guys were first introduced in 3.5 edition and then were never mentioned again.
- 15:49SPEAKER_03: Um, in the supplement, in the 2006 supplement, Tome of Magic.
- 15:54SPEAKER_03: So they're from the Plain of Shadow, primarily the City of Onyx.
- 15:57SPEAKER_03: They're guess what?
- 15:59SPEAKER_05: Oh, oh, oh, I have a guess.
- 16:01SPEAKER_05: They're buff and handsome.
- 16:05SPEAKER_03: Yay! What do I win?
- 16:06SPEAKER_03: Nothing.
- 16:07SPEAKER_03: Oh they're well muscled and wiry with dark and dusky gray skin.
- 16:11SPEAKER_03: So these ones are the unnatural gray.
- 16:14SPEAKER_05: Yeah, that kind of really, really like cool, cool gray that you don't see in humans.
- 16:21SPEAKER_05: Yeah, so much.
- 16:22SPEAKER_05: Because you know, even if you have like like cooler toned skin, like skin human skin has warmth to it.
- 16:29SPEAKER_05: Yeah, just by virtue of the fact that we have blood.
- 16:31SPEAKER_05: Right, unlike onyx.
- 16:33SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 16:34SPEAKER_03: Uh they have black hair and black eyes that quote resembled a void.
- 16:40SPEAKER_05: Ooh.
- 16:42SPEAKER_03: Ooh.
- 16:44SPEAKER_03: Ah.
- 16:45SPEAKER_03: Spoopy.
- 16:47SPEAKER_03: Uh the Kayle dwell apart from the rest of genies, whom they view as with varying degrees of antipathy towards straight-up hostility.
- 16:57SPEAKER_03: Uh, like they are particularly hostile towards the Jan, with whom they have fought a hidden and sporadic war for eons.
- 17:05SPEAKER_03: Why?
- 17:06SPEAKER_03: So they're kind of diametrically opposed to each other, sort of.
- 17:12SPEAKER_03: So you know how the Shadowfell, and in this case, because it's 3.5, the Shadow Plane is sort of like the the The Goth edit of the Prime.
- 17:23SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 17:24SPEAKER_05: Because you have the the like oversaturated neon edit, which is the Feywilds, and then you have the Shadow Fell, which is the Goth edit.
- 17:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 17:34SPEAKER_03: So just since the Jan are genies formed from all four elements, uh, sages kind of guess that the first Kyle were elemental spirits that materialized outside the four elements altogether.
- 17:46SPEAKER_03: They have no elemental bond.
- 17:48SPEAKER_03: They lacked any form at all, and they drifted through the periphery of genie society until they finally bonded their emptiness with the shadow of the elements.
- 17:57SPEAKER_05: Huh.
- 17:58SPEAKER_05: So they're they're kind of literally just like uh like a I mean like emptiness given form.
- 18:06SPEAKER_05: Like a a um this is evocative of something else we talked about, but essentially like a vacuum.
- 18:10SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 18:11SPEAKER_03: Um I I believe actually a vacuum elemental is something we've talked about.
- 18:16SPEAKER_03: Right, yeah.
- 18:17SPEAKER_03: That's right, vacuum elementals.
- 18:19SPEAKER_03: Um Ah, that's uh like really sad, actually.
- 18:23SPEAKER_03: Yeah, like especially when you think about everything else on the Shadowfell or the plane shadow.
- 18:28SPEAKER_03: It's right, it's kinda sad.
- 18:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 18:31SPEAKER_03: Um whether this theory is accurate or not, it's undeniable that the Kyod consider themselves apart from any of the other genies.
- 18:39SPEAKER_03: Right, okay.
- 18:41SPEAKER_03: They look down on most other races, including humans um and other humanoids.
- 18:46SPEAKER_03: They think of these creatures as weak and delighted in deceiving them.
- 18:50SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 18:51SPEAKER_03: Uh deception is a fine art among them, and they seem to have dishonesty in their blood.
- 18:56SPEAKER_03: Dang.
- 18:57SPEAKER_03: That dang.
- 19:00SPEAKER_03: They lie all the time, but they do have a tradition amongst themselves that should a lesser being ever confront one of them with irrefutable proof that the individual has lied to them, the genie must then perform a service for that individual and penance for being found out.
- 19:18SPEAKER_03: Essentially, that's kind of where the wish thing comes back for them.
- 19:23SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 19:23SPEAKER_05: Well, that's that's an interesting way to do it.
- 19:25SPEAKER_05: Also, that's so like the the the way that that's phrased is so it's not like You're you're not allowed to like just say, I think you're lying to me.
- 19:34SPEAKER_03: You have to come back with the receipts.
- 19:37SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you have to be like, but this is why I think you're lying to me.
- 19:40SPEAKER_03: I'm pr this is you can't get your way out of this.
- 19:43SPEAKER_03: You're lying to me.
- 19:44SPEAKER_05: But the the way that it's described is penance, as opposed to like, oh, if you do a if you do a favor for them, they'll or or or that it it's like some grand like riddle or something.
- 19:56SPEAKER_05: It's just like, hey, you fucked up enough in trying to deceive this person that they caught you, so this is your penance.
- 20:03SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you have embarrassed us.
- 20:06SPEAKER_03: Now you have to go perform a service for this mortal.
- 20:09SPEAKER_03: Um, some Kyle cleave to this tradition more than others.
- 20:14SPEAKER_05: And I mean, from people who just have consummate dishonesty seemingly in their blood, that does not surprise me.
- 20:22SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 20:23SPEAKER_03: On occasion, a Kyle will actually offer to assist those who have impressed them, such as with their own abilities of deception.
- 20:31SPEAKER_03: I I think you can tell what their favorite skill is, or those with whom they share a common goal.
- 20:37SPEAKER_03: Uh the Kyle will always assume a leadership role in such a case, and might be surprised if others don't simply accept him as the superior.
- 20:46SPEAKER_05: Wow.
- 20:47SPEAKER_05: That kind of reminds me a little bit of um I think it was like the the married attitude a little bit.
- 20:54SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 20:55SPEAKER_05: Like they're they're not so much like, well, I mean, I don't know if maybe this is part of their spec, but that's just a little more like they they just s automatically assume in their brain that they're better.
- 21:06SPEAKER_03: So they it They're caught off guard when others don't have the same thoughts.
- 21:10SPEAKER_05: Yeah, but it's not like they're they're just going around, like throwing their weight around for no reason because they think they're better, but it's like when they're confronted with someone who doesn't maybe necessarily see it that way, they're like, What?
- 21:23SPEAKER_05: Am R confused when not about me?
- 21:25SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 21:26SPEAKER_03: So um that Kyle also each speak common, an elemental language, and an alignment language.
- 21:34SPEAKER_03: Uh most Kyle make their homes in the city of Onyx.
- 21:37SPEAKER_03: This uh it's a community of twisted spires and high minarets protruding in all directions and paying no heed to the laws of architecture or physics.
- 21:46SPEAKER_03: Oh sick.
- 21:48SPEAKER_03: Uh the Malik al Kyal, the King of Shadows, rules the Kyle from the Grand Palace of Endings.
- 21:55SPEAKER_03: Oh, that's a oh yeah, I think you guys might have forgotten, but the plane.
- 22:00SPEAKER_03: Of Shadows got as fuck.
- 22:02SPEAKER_05: Oh man, that that's such a good name for a the Grand Palace of Endings?
- 22:08SPEAKER_05: Fuck me up.
- 22:11SPEAKER_03: Uh the city's marketplace has a bunch of different races and travelers and individuals who make make use of the Plane of Shadow as a byway between other planes, but the center of the city is off limits to non-Kyal.
- 22:24SPEAKER_03: The Kyle penchant for deception does not extend to their own race, mind you.
- 22:29SPEAKER_03: Kyle thinks nothing of deceiving a human, an elf, or any or any of the even the other genie races, but he will never lie to another Kyle.
- 22:38SPEAKER_05: Or is that a lie?
- 22:39SPEAKER_03: Did a Kyle write this and they're lying about it?
- 22:42SPEAKER_03: Probably.
- 22:44SPEAKER_03: Um, gender is a relative non-issue among the Kyle.
- 22:48SPEAKER_03: Nice.
- 22:48SPEAKER_03: City of Onyx makes few distinctions between its male and female citizens.
- 22:52SPEAKER_03: Nice.
- 22:53SPEAKER_03: Refreshing.
- 22:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I mean it's very interesting to see, especially among like genie of all.
- 22:58SPEAKER_05: Um Yeah, well, and especially given that um in like the the four kind of more elemental genies, it seemed like some of them had some pretty strong ideas.
- 23:09SPEAKER_05: Pretty pretty uh strong ideas about gender.
- 23:12SPEAKER_05: And these guys are just like, eh, eh, I don't care.
- 23:15SPEAKER_03: Can you lie?
- 23:16SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 23:17SPEAKER_03: Awesome.
- 23:18SPEAKER_03: Can you only lie to other people?
- 23:21SPEAKER_03: Great.
- 23:21SPEAKER_03: Not us, though.
- 23:23SPEAKER_03: Right, yeah.
- 23:24SPEAKER_03: Um, other kyal communities exist in the Planet of Shadow, and they operate on similar principles, although their rulers usually claim the title of Amir.
- 23:32SPEAKER_03: None but the true king can claim the title of Malik.
- 23:36SPEAKER_03: Um, it's important to mention that one meaning of Kyal, uh K again K-H-A-Y-A-L is in Arabic, it means imagination.
- 23:46SPEAKER_03: It's odd.
- 23:47SPEAKER_05: Huh.
- 23:48SPEAKER_05: I mean, I hmm.
- 23:50SPEAKER_05: I mean, I can kinda it does kind of sound cool though.
- 23:54SPEAKER_05: Like it just sounds like a cool word.
- 23:56SPEAKER_05: I mean, I'm I'm maybe I'm trying I'm trying to make a connection where it's just like maybe n not necessarily the exact same situation as the Tao, where it was like what looks like a placeholder, but I mean, at the very least, this is actually something in Arabic.
- 24:12SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 24:13SPEAKER_05: Like maybe they were just kinda looking around and they saw like a cool looking, cool sounding Arabic word, and they were like, alright, here we go.
- 24:20SPEAKER_05: But it seems uh interesting to assign a word that means imagination to the void people.
- 24:29SPEAKER_05: To the void people, to the deceptive void people.
- 24:34SPEAKER_03: We have two more of the uh offshoots, but first we're gonna take a quick ad break.
- 24:40SPEAKER_03: Hey everybody, thank you so much for listening to our episode, well, our second episode on genies.
- 24:45SPEAKER_03: Round two.
- 24:46SPEAKER_03: Round two.
- 24:47SPEAKER_03: Well, technically, if you really want to get into our third episode on genies, because your episode, your first episode counts.
- 24:53SPEAKER_06: That's true.
- 24:54SPEAKER_06: So round three.
- 24:55SPEAKER_03: 2.5.
- 24:58SPEAKER_03: 2.5 edition.

- 25:03SPEAKER_03: But uh, as far as originals go, we still have our affiliate partnership with Metallic Dice Games going on, which has tons of original dice that you can't get anywhere else.
- 25:15SPEAKER_03: They're beautiful, they're amazing.
- 25:18SPEAKER_06: They're pretty.
- 25:19SPEAKER_06: They're peaty.
- 25:20SPEAKER_06: They are not candy.
- 25:22SPEAKER_03: You cannot eat them, Louin.
- 25:24SPEAKER_03: I mean.
- 25:26SPEAKER_03: I mean, you can eat them.
- 25:27SPEAKER_03: Sharp, bad.
- 25:29SPEAKER_03: They actually do have some with sharp edges.
- 25:31SPEAKER_03: Don't freaking eat those.
- 25:32SPEAKER_03: Don't step on that D4 either.
- 25:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah, like if you're gonna eat.
- 25:35SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that would be so bad.
- 25:36SPEAKER_05: If you're gonna eat any kind of dice, don't eat the sharp ones, at the very least.
- 25:41SPEAKER_03: But you know what you should do.
- 25:43SPEAKER_03: You should, if you're interested, use code Dungeon PDF for 10% off of your entire order at metallicdice games.com.

- 25:51SPEAKER_06: But do use the code and get more dice, because don't don't eat them.
- 25:55SPEAKER_05: Don't eat them.
- 25:57SPEAKER_05: But don't legally, I have to say that.
- 25:59SPEAKER_05: Don't eat them.
- 26:02SPEAKER_05: I had to make sure that she didn't wink.
- 26:05SPEAKER_05: They wouldn't have been able to see it anyway.
- 26:08SPEAKER_05: But what you can see is our Patreon, which is at Dungeonpedia.

- 26:26SPEAKER_05: And you know, if you you could use the screen reader.
- 26:29SPEAKER_05: Yeah.

- 27:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's subscribing to our feed, basically.
- 27:32SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 27:32SPEAKER_06: So I guess kind of to us.
- 27:34SPEAKER_06: That's a weird gray area.
- 27:36SPEAKER_06: In my head, anyway.
- 27:37SPEAKER_06: Don't judge me.
- 27:39SPEAKER_06: Um remember to rate us and give us a review if that platform happens to allow it, especially if you're using the uh Apple Apple Podcasts.
- 27:49SPEAKER_06: Apple Podcasts, because that's a great platform to maybe help us get a little bit more recognition and uh notoriety.
- 27:57SPEAKER_05: That's also a gray area because their interface is gray.
- 28:00SPEAKER_05: Gray.
- 28:01SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 28:01SPEAKER_05: Very good.
- 28:02SPEAKER_05: Unless you're using unless you're using dark mode, which like me, which is the only valid mode.
- 28:06SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 28:07SPEAKER_06: Uh but the other thing that will definitely help us a whole lot is to just spread the word.
- 28:13SPEAKER_06: So you're friends, families, co-workers.
- 28:16SPEAKER_03: Fans of Robin Williams depiction of the genie.
- 28:19SPEAKER_06: No.
- 28:20SPEAKER_06: Co-workers' families.
- 28:22SPEAKER_03: Families, co-workers.
- 28:23SPEAKER_03: Families of Robin Williams.
- 28:26SPEAKER_03: Well, okay.
- 28:26SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 28:28SPEAKER_05: I was gonna say, like, are we are we gonna are we gonna tweet Zelda Williams?
- 28:31SPEAKER_05: Are we gonna do that?
- 28:32SPEAKER_03: No, but I wish I could.
- 28:34SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 28:34SPEAKER_03: I mean, we technically could.
- 28:36SPEAKER_03: Hypothetically.
- 28:37SPEAKER_03: She's just significantly cooler.
- 28:39SPEAKER_03: Morphous.
- 28:40SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 28:40SPEAKER_05: Yeah, she's just way above our uh our level.
- 28:43SPEAKER_05: Our level there.
- 28:44SPEAKER_05: You know who is above our level, but somehow we're still associated with.
- 28:48SPEAKER_05: And that's Alexander Nacarata and his theme song, Blacksmith.
- 28:52SPEAKER_05: We're not actually like formally associated with.
- 28:55SPEAKER_03: We we literally just have his music.
- 28:59SPEAKER_05: But our theme song.
- 29:00SPEAKER_05: I was trying to do a little.
- 29:02SPEAKER_03: I have given him money once, but it was as a thank you for the song.
- 29:06SPEAKER_03: It's a because it's a good song.
- 29:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 29:08SPEAKER_06: It is a great song.
- 29:10SPEAKER_06: But with that, uh, I believe we have a few more genies.
- 29:14SPEAKER_06: Genie offshoots.
- 29:16SPEAKER_06: I guess is what we're going with here.
- 29:18SPEAKER_03: That because I need to differentiate them, yes.
- 29:20SPEAKER_06: True genies?
- 29:21SPEAKER_03: They're all true genie.
- 29:23SPEAKER_03: Genie can?
- 29:24SPEAKER_03: Get out of here.
- 29:25SPEAKER_06: Anyway, back to the genie cast.
- 29:29SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 29:30SPEAKER_05: Two more?
- 29:31SPEAKER_05: Two more.
- 29:32SPEAKER_05: And then we're we're done with genies, right?
- 29:36SPEAKER_05: There's no more other types of genies or genie adjacent.
- 29:39SPEAKER_03: There are genie adjacent, so I'm sorry.
- 29:41SPEAKER_03: Uh, we're not done with genies.
- 29:42SPEAKER_03: And I'm a completionist, so we both know that I'm gonna do genasi after this.
- 29:46SPEAKER_05: You know, I actually I was scanning my brain.
- 29:49SPEAKER_05: I was like, wait, have we done an episode on Genasi?
- 29:52SPEAKER_05: We have not.
- 29:52SPEAKER_06: I was like and I kind of forgot that they were genie adjacent people.
- 29:59SPEAKER_03: I mean, they're basically like the chieflings of the Osamar of genies.
- 30:02SPEAKER_05: Well, that was my thought.
- 30:03SPEAKER_05: Was I like, I swear we've done Janasi, but I think my brain was scrambling that with Osimar.
- 30:10SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 30:10SPEAKER_05: Which is like, I mean basically at this point, I'm just doing all of the planes races.
- 30:15SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 30:15SPEAKER_06: Yeah, you kind of just took that mantle up and uh and ran with it.
- 30:19SPEAKER_05: Well, here we are.
- 30:20SPEAKER_05: And I'm over here doing dragons.
- 30:22SPEAKER_05: Yeah, basically basically dragons.
- 30:25SPEAKER_05: Anyway, next elves, though.
- 30:27SPEAKER_03: We have the Kurashi.
- 30:29SPEAKER_03: Ooh.
- 30:30SPEAKER_03: Q-O-R-A-R-A-S-H-I.
- 30:33SPEAKER_03: Oh, it's that hard C sound with a Q.
- 30:36SPEAKER_03: I like it.
- 30:36SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah.
- 30:37SPEAKER_03: Uh, these guys were introduced in third edition on a web series called Perilous Gateways, which was articles that were created by several different authors, uh, which featured portals throughout Feyrune.
- 30:50SPEAKER_03: Hence Gateways.
- 30:51SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 30:52SPEAKER_03: It um, I believe, was started under um TSR, but it actually is on Wizard of the Coast's website uh in their archive now.
- 31:03SPEAKER_03: Oh you can actually go and read through all of these.
- 31:07SPEAKER_05: I love those like web series archives, and it just feels so random whenever you find stuff kind of in one of those.
- 31:14SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah.
- 31:15SPEAKER_05: Like it's just like, oh hey, yeah, there was this period in like 2008 or whatever where they like posted just a whole bunch of these random articles.
- 31:23SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 31:23SPEAKER_05: It's fun.
- 31:24SPEAKER_03: Um, so the Kurashi were introduced in um the June 2002 post Portals of the Frozen Wace, which was about four frigid portals.
- 31:34SPEAKER_03: Ooh, ice genie.
- 31:35SPEAKER_03: Uh it was written by James Wyatt.
- 31:37SPEAKER_03: Ice genies.
- 31:38SPEAKER_03: Ice genies.
- 31:40SPEAKER_03: They are um actually genies of cold and ice specifically.
- 31:46SPEAKER_05: Ooh.
- 31:47SPEAKER_04: As opposed to that hot ice.
- 31:49SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I mean Yeah, I know.
- 31:51SPEAKER_03: It's just the way it was phrased.
- 31:53SPEAKER_05: I mean, I guess that there's like a, you know, you have a the you have ice, but then you also have like a a cold winter wind, which is the worst part, let's be real.
- 32:04SPEAKER_03: I guess like, you know, um, oh, I can't think of uh what it is.
- 32:10SPEAKER_03: Dry ice might not be cold to the touch.
- 32:13SPEAKER_03: That's true, but don't touch it.
- 32:15SPEAKER_03: But also don't touch it.
- 32:16SPEAKER_03: We'll never know because you're not supposed to touch it.
- 32:20SPEAKER_06: You can in fact touch it with your bare hands, you just can't hold on to it.
- 32:24SPEAKER_06: You can juggle it back and forth and it's not gonna burn you.
- 32:27SPEAKER_03: Ah, I didn't know that.
- 32:28SPEAKER_06: I mean, or you can hold on to it, that's when it starts to frostbite and burn you.
- 32:32SPEAKER_06: You can kind of just like juggle it every couple seconds and you'll be fine.
- 32:36SPEAKER_05: Or I mean you can just pick it up and hold it.
- 32:38SPEAKER_05: We're not your parents.
- 32:39SPEAKER_03: No.
- 32:41SPEAKER_03: I'm now your mother.
- 32:42SPEAKER_03: You're not allowed to do it.
- 32:43SPEAKER_06: But also, don't do any of that because bad.
- 32:47SPEAKER_03: Very bad.
- 32:48SPEAKER_03: You're all grounded.
- 32:50SPEAKER_05: Go do your homework.
- 32:52SPEAKER_05: It's about genies.
- 32:53SPEAKER_05: There'll be there'll be a quiz at the end of this episode.
- 32:57SPEAKER_03: Hope you've been studying.
- 32:58SPEAKER_03: Um, so the cross uh the karashi are distant relatives of the djinn.
- 33:04SPEAKER_03: Uh by the way, the plural is karosh and the singular is karashi.
- 33:08SPEAKER_03: So it's one of those weird ones where it actually gives you the singular instead of the plural first.
- 33:13SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 33:14SPEAKER_06: I don't like it when they do that.
- 33:16SPEAKER_03: And it feels like yeah, no.
- 33:18SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 33:19SPEAKER_03: Uh the Karashi appear as pale, blue-skinned, humanoid with noble features.
- 33:26SPEAKER_06: And of course they'd be prestentious little pricks.
- 33:29SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 33:30SPEAKER_03: Their skin is laced with fr frost like a window in wintertime.
- 33:34SPEAKER_05: Oh, oh, wait, okay.
- 33:36SPEAKER_05: I have a I have a is noble in this case just a um a placeholder for buff.
- 33:44SPEAKER_05: And handsome.
- 33:45SPEAKER_05: Probably.
- 33:46SPEAKER_05: Probably handsome.
- 33:46SPEAKER_05: It's just uh it's just a synonym for for handsome.
- 33:51SPEAKER_03: I mean, I'll be honest, another one of the words that's used is powerful, so yeah.
- 33:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah, they're buff and hot.
- 33:58SPEAKER_05: Or cold, as it were, but you know.
- 34:01SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 34:02SPEAKER_03: Um, the men tend to be bald but wear elegant white goatees.
- 34:06SPEAKER_03: Ooh.
- 34:07SPEAKER_03: Uh, while women had long white hair.
- 34:10SPEAKER_03: Nice.
- 34:11SPEAKER_03: They're surrounded by an aura of frigid cold, noticeable even in the coldest climate.
- 34:16SPEAKER_03: So they're colder than cold.
- 34:18SPEAKER_05: What's colder than cold?
- 34:20SPEAKER_06: Karoshi, apparently.
- 34:22SPEAKER_03: Alright, alright, alright, alright.
- 34:24SPEAKER_06: I'm sorry, Karosh.
- 34:27SPEAKER_05: That's so, and that that's so antithetical to what I feel like a lot of words are.
- 34:31SPEAKER_05: Because I feel like for a lot of words, you you attach the E onto the end of it to make it plural, as opposed to the other way around.
- 34:38SPEAKER_03: Well, it is Arabic, and that's Arabic.
- 34:42SPEAKER_03: Um, so Karosh enjoy physical combat more than their gen cousins.
- 34:46SPEAKER_06: Well, yeah, because all they do is just freeze their fucking enemy when they're that close.
- 34:50SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 34:50SPEAKER_03: I mean, you're not wrong.
- 34:52SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 34:52SPEAKER_03: Uh they do have a frostbite spell-like ability.
- 34:55SPEAKER_03: Oh no.
- 34:56SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I kind of had a feeling.
- 34:58SPEAKER_03: Um they use their magical abilities to soften up their foes.
- 35:03SPEAKER_03: Uh, they're quick to flee a fight that turns against them.
- 35:06SPEAKER_03: So they love to fight, but if it starts to go wrong, they'll bounce.
- 35:10SPEAKER_05: Hey, I mean valid.
- 35:12SPEAKER_05: Honestly, sometimes sometimes the tactical or treat is necessary.
- 35:16SPEAKER_03: Um, uh, Karashi's natural weapons, as well as any weapons at wield, are treated as lawful aligned for the purposes of overcoming damage reduction.
- 35:24SPEAKER_06: So they're lawful?
- 35:27SPEAKER_03: They are.
- 35:28SPEAKER_03: Hold on, I gotta double check.
- 35:30SPEAKER_03: Uh, they're always lawful and neutral.
- 35:32unknown: Okay.
- 35:33SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 35:33SPEAKER_06: So, yeah, they're lawful.
- 35:35SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 35:36SPEAKER_06: Now what I pictured coming from like uh from the description of noble, but you know, whatever.
- 35:42SPEAKER_05: See, that's exactly what I imagined from the fucking chilly cold ice people was that they would be lawful.
- 35:52SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 35:53SPEAKER_03: Well, yeah, I always sort of um associate cold with like law and fire with chaos.
- 36:03SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 36:04SPEAKER_05: No, I no, I do too.
- 36:05SPEAKER_05: I think that there's um yeah, no.
- 36:08SPEAKER_05: There's something to it.
- 36:08SPEAKER_05: There's something to it.
- 36:09SPEAKER_05: And like, you know, I associate earth with law.
- 36:13SPEAKER_05: Yeah, because of the rigidity, yeah, and wind with chaos.
- 36:16SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 36:17SPEAKER_05: No, same.
- 36:18SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 36:18SPEAKER_06: I mean, we're also from Oklahoma, so wind is literally chaos.
- 36:23SPEAKER_05: You're not wrong.
- 36:24SPEAKER_05: I mean, honestly, in Oklahoma, every element is chaos because we have all types of shit with there.
- 36:31SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 36:31SPEAKER_03: No, because our earth is also chaotic because it has clay in it.
- 36:34SPEAKER_03: So, like, if you accidentally put your foundation on some clay, it's just gonna slip down the fucking it bye.
- 36:41SPEAKER_03: Right?
- 36:42SPEAKER_03: Anyways, um, so um a karashi is about ten and a half feet tall and weights about a thousand pounds.
- 36:50SPEAKER_06: Jesus.
- 36:51SPEAKER_03: Uh, Korash speak orin, celestial, common, and ignorance.
- 36:55SPEAKER_03: It decides with the Korash speak.
- 36:57SPEAKER_03: It doesn't get the option.
- 36:58SPEAKER_06: Huh.
- 36:59SPEAKER_06: So it's like most elemental and then common.
- 37:04SPEAKER_03: Um no, actually just um earth and air.
- 37:09SPEAKER_06: Oh, right.
- 37:10SPEAKER_03: And then celestial and common.
- 37:13SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 37:13SPEAKER_06: Yeah, celestial isn't a part of that.
- 37:15SPEAKER_06: I don't know why I grouped those together.
- 37:17SPEAKER_05: Yes, the elements of celestial.
- 37:23SPEAKER_03: Or good.
- 37:24SPEAKER_03: Fuck.
- 37:25SPEAKER_03: I fucked up.
- 37:26SPEAKER_03: Whatever.
- 37:26SPEAKER_03: Anyways.
- 37:27SPEAKER_03: Um finally we have the tasked genies.
- 37:31SPEAKER_06: Uh I'm pretty sure I've read about the tasked genies before.
- 37:35SPEAKER_03: Have.
- 37:35SPEAKER_03: I believe you mentioned them very briefly in your episode on the gin.
- 37:42SPEAKER_03: I briefly mentioned them, I believe.
- 37:44SPEAKER_03: They sound familiar.
- 37:45SPEAKER_03: Last episode.
- 37:46SPEAKER_03: Um they're like I said, they're only in second edition.
- 37:49SPEAKER_03: It sounds familiar.
- 37:50SPEAKER_06: Yep, I remember them.
- 37:52SPEAKER_03: I do not uh once one of the four elemental genies.
- 37:58SPEAKER_03: However, they have worked at a single task for so long that their forms have been permanently reshaped.
- 38:04SPEAKER_06: Yep.
- 38:05SPEAKER_03: Um their profession defines them and rules them.
- 38:09SPEAKER_03: So like uh like Americans, am I right?
- 38:12SPEAKER_03: Oh anyways, same joke, kinda.
- 38:15SPEAKER_03: Uh such genies, taken away from their work, grow weak and sickly.
- 38:21SPEAKER_05: Which is what's what your employer would like you to believe.
- 38:26SPEAKER_03: Unlike most genies, tasked genies are not always uneasy or hostile in the presence of humans.
- 38:32SPEAKER_03: They're proud of their superior skills, but their sense of worth is based on their achievements, not on anything having to do with who they are, as in like what they were born as or what type of genie they are.
- 38:43SPEAKER_03: It's just with their achievements, which Do they have any therapists?
- 38:47SPEAKER_05: Probably not.
- 38:49SPEAKER_04: And if they did, then they would just they would be really good at it though.
- 38:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 38:55SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you're not wrong.
- 38:56SPEAKER_03: Um, as long as the inns uh share an interest and aptitude for their craft and a willingness to defer to the genie's greater knowledge, such creatures can consort with task genies with no ill effects.
- 39:10SPEAKER_03: Task genies have little regard for station, as their lives and their status among their own kind are almost entirely dependent on merit.
- 39:17SPEAKER_03: Task genies have among themselves no nobility, only masters of their craft.
- 39:22SPEAKER_03: It's kind of like a what's a craftsman's paradise?
- 39:27SPEAKER_03: Yeah, because it's kinda like you could go in and just like As long as you just like do your job and you're good at your job.
- 39:37SPEAKER_03: And like, especially if you're wanting to oh, what's the word?
- 39:40SPEAKER_03: Uh apprentice.
- 39:41SPEAKER_06: Yeah, if you seek apprenticeship, go to them because like they're gonna know.
- 39:47SPEAKER_03: And they're going to be excited to share it with you.
- 39:51SPEAKER_03: Purely for the joy of sharing their tasks.
- 39:55SPEAKER_06: Yeah, and if you think about it, really, if you're apprenticing with one of them, then like you're kind of just feeding its life force.
- 40:02SPEAKER_03: They're literally mutually beneficial.
- 40:05SPEAKER_03: They're literally as happy serving as a pauper as they are a soul sin, as long as there's work to be done.
- 40:11SPEAKER_03: Uh, this orientation does not mean that task genies are rude or flat proper etiquette.
- 40:15SPEAKER_03: They just don't and they don't think much of a flawed master, but they are super polite nonetheless.
- 40:23SPEAKER_05: Huh.
- 40:24SPEAKER_05: I y you know, something about this vis I I don't know, something about this visual is kind of grim to me.
- 40:30SPEAKER_05: I don't know why.
- 40:32SPEAKER_05: It it well Like I I'm kind of see I'm kind of seeing it with two with two minds, I guess.
- 40:41SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and like I I have some commentary on task genies, but um I'm gonna get through what I have.
- 40:48SPEAKER_05: Taylor's biting commentary.
- 40:50SPEAKER_03: Then I'll have my commentary on why they feel just so hmm to me.
- 40:55SPEAKER_03: Um That's a good way to describe it.
- 40:57SPEAKER_03: Hmm.
- 40:58SPEAKER_03: Task genies can and do turn social conventions up upside down when they are free to harass someone who has offended them, or even if they are just in the mood.
- 41:08SPEAKER_03: Task genies are either bound by their profession to a certain location, or they are imprisoned and kept inactive for long periods of time.
- 41:17SPEAKER_06: Yep.
- 41:18SPEAKER_03: Most of the task genies are helpful, creating fantastic foods, arts, and monuments, raising animals, and watching over cities.
- 41:26SPEAKER_03: A smaller set of task genies has nothing to do when not called upon by genie nobles or powerful shiers.
- 41:32SPEAKER_03: Uh most are eventually driven insane by their isolation and delight in shedding blood when released from service.
- 41:40SPEAKER_03: That's right.
- 41:41SPEAKER_03: If these genies go long enough without being able to perform their task, they become bloodthirsty killing machines.
- 41:49SPEAKER_04: Holy shit!
- 41:50SPEAKER_05: Ex that well that took a turn.
- 41:53SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 41:54SPEAKER_06: They yeah, it they they live a sad life.
- 41:57SPEAKER_05: Well that that took a turn.
- 41:59SPEAKER_03: Not to them, but that took a turn.
- 42:02SPEAKER_03: The these include it's a subsite of tasked genies, everybody.
- 42:08SPEAKER_03: Deceiver, guardian, slayer, and warmonger tasked genies.
- 42:13SPEAKER_03: Oh my god.
- 42:14SPEAKER_06: You from my understanding of it, is you can pretty much have a task genie tasked to literally anything.
- 42:20SPEAKER_03: Right, but if you want them to be one of those violent ones, you kind of have to drive them insane first.
- 42:28SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 42:29SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 42:31SPEAKER_05: My my okay, this train of thought made sense to me.
- 42:34SPEAKER_05: If if you have ADHD, you know how it is.
- 42:37SPEAKER_05: You go through like five different you go down five different trains of thought like in a half a second.
- 42:43SPEAKER_05: But like, imagine if there were because I was gonna make a joke about like, oh yeah, I get bloodthirsty and angry when I go too long without being able to play video game.
- 42:54SPEAKER_05: And it's like, what if they had like task genies who were like streamers?
- 42:59SPEAKER_06: I mean I mean that would be a task that a genie would do in like the modern world.
- 43:05SPEAKER_03: Um and actually I misspoke.
- 43:07SPEAKER_03: So there are two ways to get one of those crazy deceiver slayer wars.
- 43:11SPEAKER_03: Selling their bathwater to merits.
- 43:13SPEAKER_03: You can either deprive them of their task for long enough that they snap and become one, or you can commit them to that task, if to the task of murder for long enough that they become insane.
- 43:25SPEAKER_05: I mean, I feel like if yeah.
- 43:28SPEAKER_05: I feel like if you murder enough, it just kind of compounds inside of you.
- 43:33SPEAKER_06: Or eventually they will become so good at it that it would just be frightening.
- 43:39SPEAKER_06: Right, yeah.
- 43:40SPEAKER_06: They would be masters of their murder craft.
- 43:43SPEAKER_03: Non genies must always either pay or enslave tasked genies.
- 43:48SPEAKER_03: Otherwise, they will not render service to a non genie.
- 43:50SPEAKER_03: That's those are two very different things.
- 43:53SPEAKER_06: Those are There's one of two ways.
- 43:55SPEAKER_05: They're those are two diametrically opposed things, even.
- 43:59SPEAKER_05: I mean They they both get to the same job, I guess, as far as this goes.
- 44:04SPEAKER_02: Whatever works, I guess.
- 44:06SPEAKER_05: Oh, yeah.
- 44:07SPEAKER_05: Um I just think it's interesting that the two methods to do so are so opposite.
- 44:13SPEAKER_03: Um, administrator, architect, artist, deceiver, guardian, servants, herdsmen, oathbinder, and winemaker genies are almost always simply paid for their work as enslaving them decreases the quality and length of their service.
- 44:26SPEAKER_06: Winemaker genie.
- 44:28SPEAKER_05: Okay, I love how you have the like some really kind of basic like administrator, guardian, servant, and then you have winemaker.
- 44:38SPEAKER_03: Fuck yeah.
- 44:39SPEAKER_03: Um, slayers are almost always enslaved because they are too dangerous to be allowed to roam free and they cannot be expected to uphold any bargain they make.
- 44:47SPEAKER_03: Jesus.
- 44:49SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 44:50SPEAKER_03: Um, and like I said, those are the ones that have snapped and are violent.
- 44:55SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 44:56SPEAKER_03: Um, warmonger task genies may either be paid or enslaved, but their true war reward is the site of victory on the battlefield.
- 45:04SPEAKER_03: Jesus.
- 45:05SPEAKER_03: Uh the sweeping events that they set in motion often continue long after the warmonger genie has been imprisoned or sent away.
- 45:12SPEAKER_03: Jesus?
- 45:14SPEAKER_05: Why do I Okay, this is highly probably inappropriate, but for some reason my brain went to the plot of Zoolander.
- 45:23SPEAKER_05: Where they they like where they like brainwashed male models to come to com to do high-profile political assassination.
- 45:33SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 45:33SPEAKER_05: Except it's then you just bind a warmonger genie.
- 45:37SPEAKER_05: Well, it makes sense because they're they're probably hot, right?
- 45:40SPEAKER_05: Like they're buff and hot.
- 45:42SPEAKER_03: So basically the entire plot of Zoolander, but it's genies.
- 45:46SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 45:49SPEAKER_06: No.
- 45:50SPEAKER_06: Listen, okay.
- 45:51SPEAKER_06: No.
- 45:52SPEAKER_03: Binding any particular task unie is very difficult, requires great wealth, wisdom, and patience.
- 45:59SPEAKER_03: Procedure is equivalent to spell research and with the same costs and chances of success.
- 46:05SPEAKER_05: Um yeah, which spell research is essentially creating a new spell.
- 46:10SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 46:10SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 46:11SPEAKER_03: It it's it's very expensive, it's very difficult.
- 46:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 46:15SPEAKER_03: Um, it really it varies from edition to edition because this is second edition.
- 46:20SPEAKER_03: I mean, it it was a bit more common, but it's still right.
- 46:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 46:25SPEAKER_05: Difficult and expensive and it sounds like, you know, not to be reductive to these guys, but it almost sounds like it would kind of to to be able to successfully bind one of these would kind of be more trouble than it's worth.
- 46:43SPEAKER_03: It I mean, I guess I mean I it would really just depend on on what you Yeah.
- 46:49SPEAKER_05: And what you yeah.
- 46:50SPEAKER_05: Because I mean, like you said, like the warmonger ones, like you said they they because they're so good at what they do that, you know, if you needed a you know, if you needed a male model for a high-profile political assassination, you couldn't do any better than that.
- 47:05SPEAKER_03: But also You can literally just pay them, and they will still do the the like they'll do the job.
- 47:11SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you don't have to enslave them.
- 47:13SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 47:14SPEAKER_03: Uh though only a single genie may be bound by an enchantment.
- 47:18SPEAKER_03: Some task genies will request aid from their brethren when commanded to undertake a large short-term project, such as shearing a huge herd of sheep or building fortifications on time to hold off invaders.
- 47:29SPEAKER_03: Herdmen and builder task genies are particularly prone to calling on their kin when presented with a suitably huge task.
- 47:38SPEAKER_03: Uh, they serve without demanding pay, um, so as to free their cousin from service more quickly.
- 47:44SPEAKER_03: Uh, someone who binds more than one task genie per year will almost certainly face the wrath of the genie princes when he asks for an audience.
- 47:54SPEAKER_06: So we're we're good with you like binding or enslaving them just no more than once per one a year?
- 48:00SPEAKER_06: Yeah, no more than once a year, though.
- 48:02SPEAKER_03: Hey, well, you have to think about it in terms of like, so like the Dow, they're totally chill with slavery.
- 48:08SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 48:09SPEAKER_03: On all fronts.
- 48:10SPEAKER_03: Like, they don't like it being done personally to them, but like, what are they gonna do?
- 48:13SPEAKER_03: But how dare you enslave one of us when you they have literally thousands enslaved?
- 48:20SPEAKER_03: It's kind of like a bargaining tool, I guess.
- 48:24SPEAKER_06: Yep.
- 48:24SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 48:25SPEAKER_06: I've come to bargain.
- 48:27SPEAKER_05: Jesus.
- 48:28SPEAKER_05: Listen, I guess you gotta draw the line somewhere.
- 48:31SPEAKER_05: Just an interesting place to do so.
- 48:33SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 48:33SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 48:34SPEAKER_05: A little bit.
- 48:34SPEAKER_03: All task genies are long-lived.
- 48:37SPEAKER_03: Guardians can serve for a thousand and one years, so their age is truly immense.
- 48:42SPEAKER_03: Right, yeah.
- 48:43SPEAKER_05: Um not some paltry 300 years.
- 48:45SPEAKER_03: Winemakers and herdsmen tasked genies are more closely tied to seasons.
- 48:50SPEAKER_03: Um, and this has made them shorter lived than a lot of other genies.
- 48:53SPEAKER_03: Their lifetime is only twice that of a human.
- 48:56SPEAKER_05: You know, I damn, that's even worse.
- 48:58SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 48:58SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 48:59SPEAKER_05: You'd think that the winemakers would live forever.
- 49:03SPEAKER_05: Well, wow, I scrambled that in my brain.
- 49:07SPEAKER_05: But they probably live shorter lives just because maybe they're getting drunk.
- 49:13SPEAKER_05: Uh yeah, they're getting high on their own supply, if you will.
- 49:17SPEAKER_03: Are you saying that they're just killing their fucking livers?
- 49:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 49:20SPEAKER_03: Do genies have livers?
- 49:22SPEAKER_03: No.
- 49:22SPEAKER_06: Also, you say that just made me think.
- 49:24SPEAKER_05: What do they have up there?
- 49:26SPEAKER_06: You could definitely have a like marijuana grower task genie.
- 49:31SPEAKER_03: Oh my god.
- 49:32SPEAKER_03: Holy shit, weed genie, weed genie, weed genie.
- 49:35SPEAKER_06: You could have a weed genie.
- 49:36SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 49:37SPEAKER_03: Someone please draw a weed genie.
- 49:40SPEAKER_06: Draw a weed genie and send it to us.
- 49:44SPEAKER_05: Or bind a weed genie and send it to us, am I right?
- 49:47SPEAKER_05: Just kidding.
- 49:49SPEAKER_05: Please don't bind genies.
- 49:50SPEAKER_05: They deserve their freedom.
- 49:51SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 49:51SPEAKER_05: Please just pay them for their services, but like tell them they can come chill with us, you know?
- 49:56SPEAKER_03: Um, uh all other genies kind of fall in between with a lot of individual variation.
- 50:02SPEAKER_03: Um, task genies kept from their task live short lives unless released from servitude and restored to their true form.
- 50:08SPEAKER_06: I mean, yeah, that would make sense considering everything.
- 50:12SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 50:13SPEAKER_06: They kind of go mentally insane and then it's just all downhill from there, I think.
- 50:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 50:20SPEAKER_06: It's bad.
- 50:22SPEAKER_03: So I I do want to um Yeah, so Taylor's thoughts.
- 50:26SPEAKER_03: Well, uh no, I actually uh before Taylor's thoughts.
- 50:29SPEAKER_03: Oh, it's it's not yet time for Taylor's bid in commentary.
- 50:32SPEAKER_03: Time.
- 50:32SPEAKER_03: I want to talk about some of the uh types of genie uh task genies that it gave, and then like what they're usually what genies are usually they usually come from.
- 50:42SPEAKER_03: Um administrator genies are usually created from djinn or merits, normally chaotic races.
- 50:48SPEAKER_03: Um that okay, would not have expected that.
- 50:51SPEAKER_06: Same, actually.
- 50:52SPEAKER_05: Yeah, my immediate thought was like DAO.
- 50:54SPEAKER_05: DAO.
- 50:54SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 50:55SPEAKER_05: Because Dow are like capitalism, you know.
- 50:57SPEAKER_05: Yes, business, business!
- 51:00SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 51:00SPEAKER_03: The economy.
- 51:02SPEAKER_03: The economy.
- 51:03SPEAKER_03: No.
- 51:03SPEAKER_03: I don't know why, but they are.
- 51:05SPEAKER_03: Um artist genies, except for the craftsmen, are all from Jin.
- 51:10SPEAKER_03: This includes poets, composers, musicians, and painters.
- 51:13SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that makes sense.
- 51:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 51:15SPEAKER_03: Their craftsmen are often Dow, which makes a lot of sense.
- 51:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah, because they're that I mean, they literally build tunnels and stuff.
- 51:22SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and you know.
- 51:23SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah.
- 51:24SPEAKER_03: That tracks.
- 51:26SPEAKER_03: Uh, builder genies are also DAO.
- 51:29SPEAKER_03: Yeah, valid.
- 51:30SPEAKER_06: Kind of falls under the same reasoning.
- 51:32SPEAKER_03: Um, note that these that these were made and also ended before the um Hayal, the Shadow Genie's, um, were a thing.
- 51:43SPEAKER_03: So deceiver genies, which are sick and deluded, were once Jinn, and now their madness drives them to great false claims and heresies.
- 51:53SPEAKER_06: So this is really where the shadow genies come from.
- 51:57SPEAKER_06: Essentially.
- 51:58SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I feel like that that was definitely probably an influence.
- 52:01SPEAKER_05: Like, hey, what if we take these particular subset of task genies and then made them a whole genie like subcategory from the Shadowfell?
- 52:09SPEAKER_03: They're more d dangerous than Slayer genies because they are less predictive predictable and more intelligent.
- 52:15SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 52:16SPEAKER_06: Hmm.
- 52:16SPEAKER_06: Yeah, because you never know if they're fucking lying, do you?
- 52:20SPEAKER_05: Exactly.
- 52:20SPEAKER_05: Whereas like a slayer genie, I feel like it you like you you kind of probably know what's gonna happen.
- 52:25SPEAKER_05: It's in the name, like Slayer.
- 52:27SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 52:28SPEAKER_03: Um, guardian genies are almost all e-frit, although some Tao are also guardians.
- 52:34SPEAKER_03: Uh they uh they're one of the few task genies that became one by choice by agreeing to serve in exchange for freedom for family members, or to excuse a debt, or as punishment for some crime.
- 52:47SPEAKER_03: Hmm.
- 52:47SPEAKER_03: Interesting.
- 52:48SPEAKER_03: Servant genies are rare and a mark of status among genie nobles.
- 52:53SPEAKER_03: They were once Jan servants and s uh served for so long that they have lost the talent for any other function.
- 53:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 53:03SPEAKER_03: Oof ooh, oof says extra large.
- 53:06SPEAKER_03: Fuck! So herdsmen genie uh were originally Jan and roamed the deserts as tribesmen.
- 53:14SPEAKER_03: Uh oh yeah, because they got their goats and shit.
- 53:17SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 53:17SPEAKER_05: Camels and shit.
- 53:19SPEAKER_03: Little of their daily lives has changed, although that they become almost slaves to their own herds.
- 53:25SPEAKER_03: Which is kind of weird.
- 53:26SPEAKER_05: I mean, that's kind of that's that's that's valid though.
- 53:29SPEAKER_05: Like, have you ever seen a baby goat?
- 53:32SPEAKER_05: I would do whatever they told me to, honestly.
- 53:34SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 53:35SPEAKER_03: Yeah, like they're like fucking like sheep.
- 53:39SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 53:39SPEAKER_03: Um, any type of genie can become a slayered genie.
- 53:43SPEAKER_03: Um if they aren't able to stay sane for a number of reasons.
- 53:49SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 53:49SPEAKER_03: Uh warmonger genies were almost all a freaked.
- 53:53SPEAKER_05: Um, wow, I think I'm gonna have a heart attack of not surprised.
- 53:57SPEAKER_03: They retain only that racist liking for war.
- 54:00SPEAKER_03: They are the only task genies that desire to and often do outstay their period of slavery.
- 54:06SPEAKER_03: When they are bound to service, warmonger genies almost always attempt to ensure that they swear to uphold a nation, a dynasty, or a cause, not an individual.
- 54:17SPEAKER_05: Yeah, because they just want to be able to keep fucking fighting.
- 54:20SPEAKER_05: Yes.
- 54:21SPEAKER_03: Um, as a result, they often resist efforts to dismiss them.
- 54:24SPEAKER_03: They've been known to act to eliminate their summoner if, in the genie's opinion, that one now stands between it and what it has sworn service to.
- 54:33SPEAKER_03: They're just like, please leave.
- 54:37SPEAKER_03: Uh to dismiss it against its will, you must overcome its magical resistance and then succeed with a dismissal spell.
- 54:44SPEAKER_04: You're just like, please leave.
- 54:46SPEAKER_04: Please leave.
- 54:49SPEAKER_04: I just wanted you to kill this like one guy.
- 54:52SPEAKER_04: Can you please leave?
- 54:54SPEAKER_03: No, you're standing between yourself and greatness.
- 54:59SPEAKER_03: Um finally, winemaker genies.
- 55:03SPEAKER_03: The best, most important.
- 55:04SPEAKER_03: Okay, actually, widely believed to be the greatest of the tasked genies, they are reshaped from the merid.
- 55:13SPEAKER_05: Yeah, okay, I'm gonna have a heart attack of not surprise.
- 55:17SPEAKER_05: Um please tell me they literally turn water into wine.
- 55:20SPEAKER_05: It doesn't say that, sorry.
- 55:21SPEAKER_05: Oh, damn it! Okay, no, they they turn water into wine.
- 55:24SPEAKER_03: Um seers believe that winemakers are noble merit who have been exiled and punished for attempting treachery on the court of the Padisha.
- 55:35SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 55:36SPEAKER_03: Releasing one from its true form is not or to his true form is not advised.
- 55:42SPEAKER_06: Why?
- 55:43SPEAKER_06: So they're being punished and their punishment is to make wine.
- 55:47SPEAKER_05: They're being punished and their their punishment is to be fucking ballers.
- 55:51SPEAKER_05: I see I see no issues.
- 55:53SPEAKER_03: Look, we're marrieds.
- 55:54SPEAKER_03: It i if one e even if our lowliest is better than everyone else, what is that to say about that?
- 56:00SPEAKER_05: That's fucking valid.
- 56:01SPEAKER_05: That's the merit attitude.
- 56:03SPEAKER_05: That is the merit attitude.
- 56:04SPEAKER_05: Holy shit.
- 56:04SPEAKER_05: Fucking dicks.
- 56:05SPEAKER_05: They're true for it's not advised.
- 56:08SPEAKER_05: Why?
- 56:09SPEAKER_05: I wanna know.
- 56:10SPEAKER_03: If I had to guess, it's because of the fact that they're being punished and they want their punishment to stay put.
- 56:16SPEAKER_03: Not the merit themselves, but the or not the winemaker itself, but the married court.
- 56:22SPEAKER_03: That's true.
- 56:23SPEAKER_03: We might incur the wrath of like the Padisha.
- 56:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you Which you don't want to do.
- 56:28SPEAKER_05: Yeah, the you accidentally like dismiss the the um winemaker who makes like her favorite vintage.
- 56:35SPEAKER_05: Oh, okay.
- 56:35SPEAKER_05: And then all of a sudden you're like just the full the full wrath of the of the merits upon you.
- 56:41SPEAKER_03: Alright, are you ready for my opinion?
- 56:43SPEAKER_05: I love how the ones okay, I have one quick opinion.
- 56:46SPEAKER_05: I love how the ones who make alcohol are considered the best.
- 56:49SPEAKER_05: Oh, same.
- 56:51SPEAKER_05: Okay, time for Taylor's opinion.
- 56:52SPEAKER_03: Time for Taylor's opinion.
- 56:53SPEAKER_05: So she's wearing a hoodie that says time for Taylor's opinion.
- 56:57SPEAKER_03: No, she's not, but really like I don't know how to feel about the task of genies, because on the one hand, I too am also driven by a compulsory need to fulfill my only task and hyper focus on it to such an extent that it becomes all that I am.
- 57:13SPEAKER_03: But also it's really sad.
- 57:15SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it's like kind of like oof.
- 57:18SPEAKER_03: It like oof.
- 57:19SPEAKER_03: Like, I I think it's interesting if it's one of the ones where they've like chosen that path and they like they like that what they've become, but like it's also really sad that like it feels like mental health issues given a form.
- 57:36SPEAKER_05: Yeah, and it it kind of to me sort of makes me think of um like and maybe maybe it's not this deep.
- 57:43SPEAKER_05: I don't know.
- 57:44SPEAKER_05: It might be this deep.
- 57:45SPEAKER_05: It might have been someone on their their writing team just it might have been someone on their writing team just making a fucking cry for help.
- 57:53SPEAKER_05: I don't know.
- 57:54SPEAKER_05: But it it kind of makes me think of like that.
- 57:56SPEAKER_05: You get that sort of uncanny valley to where like you have that middle stage where it's like, oh no, this sounds like it could be kind of lit, actually.
- 58:05SPEAKER_05: Like this is like a craftsman's paradise.
- 58:08SPEAKER_05: You know, this notion where you can just be focused on this particular type of work that you're passionate about, you're really good about, and then it kind of swings to the other side where it's like it it could maybe be a stand-in for representation of like obsession, obsession, and how like how like overworking is literally like a disease and like a huge problem in some parts of the world, yeah.
- 58:35SPEAKER_05: And also like where I also kind of have the thought of like that thing that they tell you to do where like you don't turn your passion into a career because then it eventually like consumes you and makes you kind of and makes you kind of hate it in a way.
- 58:50SPEAKER_05: That it but even though these guys don't hate it, it kind of feels like it it's a representation of that stage where it's like you feel so compelled to do it, whether or not it's because it's your livelihood or it's your livelihood insofar as your body is literally physically warped to make you ideal at doing this task, that it kind of feels like a almost a stand-in for like when you just let it take take you over.
- 59:18SPEAKER_03: Anyways, and maybe it's not that deep, but tasked genies are the ultimate um analogy for capitalism, anyways.
- 59:26SPEAKER_03: And then there's that too, and then there's that there's that layer to it too.
- 59:30SPEAKER_03: Uh jokes aside, that's all I've got as far as the genies go.
- 59:35SPEAKER_03: I mean, I've already basically told you that next time I'm going to cover the genasi, but yeah.
- 59:40SPEAKER_03: That's what I got for genies.
- 59:42SPEAKER_05: Huh.
- 59:43SPEAKER_03: And they're all considered types of true well there's no like non-true genie, basically, from what I've Which kind of makes the use of the word true in front of them.
- 59:55SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I'm the one who uh added that.
- 59:57SPEAKER_03: That was not a them thing.
- 59:58SPEAKER_03: That was me.
- 59:59SPEAKER_05: Oh, okay, gotcha, gotcha.
- 1:00:00SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 1:00:01SPEAKER_05: I was supposed to say, because if that were the case and they were just referring to all genies as true genies, it's like, well.
- 1:00:07SPEAKER_03: Then what's the fucking point?
- 1:00:08SPEAKER_05: Yeah, where's the distinction?
- 1:00:10SPEAKER_03: Yeah, there's none.
- 1:00:11SPEAKER_03: They're all true genies.
- 1:00:12SPEAKER_03: It's not a um Yeah.
- 1:00:14SPEAKER_05: I mean, I feel like that there that that's often a convention with other things like true dragons, true giants, whatever.
- 1:00:21SPEAKER_05: Anyway.

- 1:00:41SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's not good Disney involved in Disney.

- 1:01:38SPEAKER_06: A bong?
- 1:01:38SPEAKER_04: No, it's called a water pipe.
- 1:01:41SPEAKER_04: Get out.
- 1:01:43SPEAKER_04: Yeah, get out of the store for calling it a bong.
