- 0:00Speaker 1: All right, Sean, is the Nebraska volleyball team going to
- 0:02Speaker 1: run the table this year?
- 0:05Speaker 2: Yeah, quite a week. They're going to play in an
- 0:06Speaker 2: NFL football stadium, an NHL hockey venue, and a MLB
- 0:11Speaker 2: baseball stadium over an 11-day period. I don't know how
- 0:16Speaker 2: many other teams in collegiate sports could say that. None.
- 0:19Speaker 2: It really is remarkable, just the exposure they're bringing to
- 0:24Speaker 2: the sport and the rock stars that these women have become.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Yeah, and they're also going to play in an arena
- 0:31Speaker 1: in Brookings, South Dakota. They're going to go from AT
- 0:34Speaker 1: & T Stadium to an arena in Brookings, South Dakota
- 0:37Speaker 1: against South Dakota State.
- 0:39Speaker 2: It's the old Roy Williams stadium where if you got recruited,
- 0:44Speaker 2: you'd play a game where you're from. I remember when
- 0:46Speaker 2: Jeff Boshy was from North Dakota and Kansas basketball played
- 0:49Speaker 2: up in North Dakota for Jeff Boshy way back in
- 0:53Speaker 2: the day. This is kind of a Bergen-Riley tribute. to
- 0:57Speaker 2: play the game there in Brookings. They probably could have
- 0:59Speaker 2: moved it to the Sanford Arena.
- 1:01Speaker 1: They should have. Or just played in the football stadium
- 1:05Speaker 1: up there where the Jacks play. Yeah, that practice actually
- 1:08Speaker 1: began with Mike Krzyzewski when he recruited a guy from
- 1:11Speaker 1: Alaska and said, if you come to Duke, we'll come
- 1:13Speaker 1: and play in the great Alaska shootout. But yeah, you
- 1:16Speaker 1: come here, we promise, once during your career, we'll play
- 1:19Speaker 1: in your home state. All right, to football. Is Carter
- 1:22Speaker 1: Nelson ready to finally start playing like he's capable? Is
- 1:27Speaker 1: he fully healthy, and is he a factor right now?
- 1:30Speaker 2: Well, he scored a touchdown, is my understanding, in the
- 1:33Speaker 2: scrimmage last week. I asked Marcus Satterfield that this week,
- 1:37Speaker 2: and he said he's still got a ways to go.
- 1:40Speaker 2: You've got to remember, he's had two off-season surgeries the
- 1:43Speaker 2: last two years. His hip his freshman year, his shoulder
- 1:46Speaker 2: his sophomore year. So what has that done? It took
- 1:49Speaker 2: him out of the weight training for two full years
- 1:52Speaker 2: in the winter and He was a late arrival because
- 1:55Speaker 2: he played high school basketball and ran track. So he
- 1:59Speaker 2: wasn't here for that early spring either to train and develop.
- 2:02Speaker 2: He's never had... a winter where he's been able to
- 2:05Speaker 2: lift and train and develop. And I do think that's
- 2:07Speaker 2: a big part of his development that needs to happen
- 2:10Speaker 2: because the athletic tools are there. There's no question. But
- 2:12Speaker 2: he physically has a ways to go just, I think,
- 2:15Speaker 2: to make that big jump that he needs to make
- 2:18Speaker 2: to be able to play at this level. And I
- 2:19Speaker 2: would imagine we're going to see him play and have
- 2:21Speaker 2: a role. But that tight end room is unique because
- 2:24Speaker 2: I think there's a lot of different guys that can
- 2:26Speaker 2: do a lot of different things.
- 2:27Speaker 1: So we're going to have a scrimmage tomorrow. How close
- 2:29Speaker 1: will that be to game-type conditions?
- 2:31Speaker 2: Well, it's not really a scrimmage. It's a mock game.
- 2:35Speaker 2: They've already had their two scrimmages that you're allowed by rule.
- 2:38Speaker 2: You're only allowed nine practices and full pads over your
- 2:42Speaker 2: first 25 per the NCAA training camp rules. They've done
- 2:46Speaker 2: their two scrimmages. This is just more of like your,
- 2:49Speaker 2: you know, kind of just like a dress rehearsal to
- 2:53Speaker 2: go through game day warm-ups, kind of go through just
- 2:56Speaker 2: the logistics of getting ready to play on a Saturday.
- 2:59Speaker 1: How many teams out there are not going to treat
- 3:01Speaker 1: this like a scrimmage? If the NCAA really got serious
- 3:05Speaker 1: about enforcing that, I think they'd have about 100 schools
- 3:09Speaker 1: in line to get indicted. But hopefully it won't happen here.
- 3:13Speaker 1: Let's talk about high school football last night. Braylon Warren
- 3:16Speaker 1: looked really good, the quarterback for Westside. What kind of
- 3:20Speaker 1: a prospect is he? He had 230 all-purpose yards.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Yeah, Braylon's been committed to Missouri now for a few months,
- 3:27Speaker 2: and He was an Elite 11 finalist, so there were
- 3:31Speaker 2: 25 quarterbacks at that Elite 11, and he made the
- 3:34Speaker 2: final 11. As we know, Trey Taylor was the MVP.
- 3:37Speaker 2: In any other given year, Braylon Warren would be regarded
- 3:42Speaker 2: as one of the best we've seen in Nebraska, but
- 3:45Speaker 2: because now Trey Taylor's here, Trey Taylor's going to get
- 3:48Speaker 2: a lot of the headlines, but Braylon Warren is without
- 3:50Speaker 2: a doubt one of the better prospects we've seen come
- 3:53Speaker 2: through this state in terms of his ranking. Obviously, Jett's
- 3:56Speaker 2: model the year before was one of the... We're kind
- 3:58Speaker 2: of on a run in this state with quarterbacks going
- 4:01Speaker 2: back to really Zane Flores and just where that position
- 4:05Speaker 2: has come and the development. Guys like Steve Warren, his father,
- 4:11Speaker 2: who have put together really good training facilities and helped
- 4:15Speaker 2: develop kids. Over the years, it's really paid off, and
- 4:19Speaker 2: Braylon is no doubt a top-level quarterback. They don't play
- 4:22Speaker 2: Millard South, by the way. It's a week nine, I think.
- 4:25Speaker 2: We could have a huge game to end the regular
- 4:28Speaker 2: season with Trey Taylor versus Braylon Warren, and then they
- 4:31Speaker 2: could potentially meet up again somewhere in the playoffs, hopefully
- 4:34Speaker 2: the finals. Yep.
- 4:35Speaker 1: Taylor and Millard South. Millard South is the number 67
- 4:39Speaker 1: ranked team in the country, according to Max Prepp's consensus,
- 4:42Speaker 1: number one in Nebraska. How good are they by comparison
- 4:46Speaker 1: to the other two Millard Souths that we've seen the
- 4:48Speaker 1: last two years?
- 4:50Speaker 2: I think they're just different. The previous Millard South teams, honestly,
- 4:54Speaker 2: were a lot of kids that grew up playing together
- 4:56Speaker 2: in the Junior Patriots, and they all went to Millard South.
- 4:59Speaker 2: Then A few transfers came, but that core group, they
- 5:03Speaker 2: had played together since, you know, fifth grade, sixth grade kids. And,
- 5:07Speaker 2: you know, they all went to Miller South together. And
- 5:10Speaker 2: then a few more people followed. This team has a
- 5:12Speaker 2: lot more imports to it. I mean, you've got four
- 5:13Speaker 2: Lincoln East kids. You've got Trey Taylor. You've got a
- 5:16Speaker 2: Chicago receiver, a Texas receiver. I'm going to be there tonight,
- 5:20Speaker 2: and I think a lot of people are interested. I
- 5:21Speaker 2: did watch them play, though. against Bishop Gorman this summer,
- 5:25Speaker 2: the powerhouse from Las Vegas. It was a controlled scrimmage
- 5:28Speaker 2: inside the Cook Pavilion, and they hung with them, but
- 5:31Speaker 2: they weren't at the level of Bishop Gorman. Bishop Gorman
- 5:34Speaker 2: is a national top-five team in the country, and they
- 5:37Speaker 2: made plays, they scored on them, and did a lot
- 5:39Speaker 2: of things. So this will be, without a doubt, a team.
- 5:42Speaker 2: I read a point spread for tonight's game somewhere, and
- 5:46Speaker 2: it was about 28 points. Yeah, 27.5, according to Caesars.
- 5:50Speaker 2: But I think it's a made-up Seattle. I don't think
- 5:53Speaker 2: it's the real Caesars Palace.
- 5:54Speaker 1: It's a made-up Seattle. They just hijacked the logo, but
- 5:57Speaker 1: it looked good. Yeah, East could have used those guys
- 5:59Speaker 1: last night. Chano over at Seacrest. Northeast pulls off the
- 6:02Speaker 1: upset 20-13. All right, big guy, enjoy the football game tonight.
- 6:06Speaker 1: We'll talk about Nebraska's mock game on Monday as we
- 6:10Speaker 1: begin game week. Chano will be with us Monday through Friday,
- 6:13Speaker 1: starting on Monday exclusively on 1110 KFB.
