- 0:00All righty, we are here. Fresh podcast, new podcast.
- 0:03We've been here before, but it's been a year almost to the day, I
- 0:06think, and it was a fun day. I've shot a lot of arrows out of
- 0:13a heavy bow today with two guests.
- 0:15Would you like to introduce our guests here today?
- 0:18Well, we have Tate, Morgan and the page Pierce with us today.
- 0:26Good guests. How's it feel to be back on the
- 0:27show, folks? Feels good, feels good.
- 0:31Got a lot of interesting content from you 2 clowns today.
- 0:37A lot. A lot.
- 0:39It was exciting. What was the most surprising
- 0:43arrow fired? Today you're 7.
- 0:47That one. Well, I doubt, yeah.
- 0:49I might have nightmares about that just.
- 0:53I'm dying just. Shocked in the binoculars as I
- 0:57what? Did you have to count rings?
- 0:59How do you even? Call that I was like that's so
- 1:03far beyond deep into the eight. It's like you just jumped out
- 1:08into like the deep abyss you'd. Literally.
- 1:12I mean, shanked it to left field even though it was centre.
- 1:16But, you know, basically that's what I would call shanking it to
- 1:20left field, that it was just, I don't know.
- 1:24What have you shot the other day with your buddy, with your
- 1:28hunting rig, with no lens, no clarifier, you know, do you even
- 1:35have the bar? Did you have the bars on it at
- 1:37that point yet? Yeah, So you had some bars at
- 1:40least, I guess. But that's it.
- 1:45Still didn't shoot that bad. No, that's the worst shot I've.
- 1:48Ever you had a like full case of the yips on that one?
- 1:51Literally the yips, yeah, I turned into Rick and Keel and
- 1:54just forgot how to pitch and that was crazy.
- 1:57Right, Kevin Costner on On Tin Cup.
- 2:00By the way, can we talk about Kevin Costner got to be the
- 2:02most. Literally the next end you had
- 2:04to tie your left shooter double, not put all your change in your
- 2:06left pocket 100% you had to go just just completely mess your
- 2:11mind up. Clear the mechanism, clear it.
- 2:13Shout out to The Natural, another Kevin Costner.
- 2:15It was an 11, OK. Yeah, we recovered.
- 2:18You did recover. You recovered well, But yeah,
- 2:21that was, I mean, mind blowing. It goes to show that was really
- 2:26funny because it's like you could put all this work in and
- 2:29be like, make it as forgiving as possible.
- 2:32But like you can't fix a true, you know, shake a true like, you
- 2:38know, kerfuffle it just they can still happen.
- 2:42You know the worst part about indoor is you do all that work,
- 2:45all the forgiving, all the whatever.
- 2:47And let's say that bad one was just a nine.
- 2:49Like when we go to a tournament, you shoot 1 bad arrow like one
- 2:52night, your whole weekend's done.
- 2:54Yeah, like you lost, go home. That's why Indoor's not very
- 2:56fun. Lot of pressure.
- 2:59So that brings me to a question is how?
- 3:02OK, I know me shooting the sevens ridiculous, but in the
- 3:08wall up there above the targets is 2 arrows that I've heard are
- 3:12both from Tate. So I need no no no is.
- 3:14There more than two I think. There's three.
- 3:17Only two of them are mine. One of them is Emily's.
- 3:20OK, OK, so I need to know how those happen.
- 3:23Well, the one I was trans, I was shooting multiple different
- 3:28releases. One day playing around and I was
- 3:30shooting a hinge, a button and a tension.
- 3:32Well the one time I forgot I went from a hinge back to
- 3:36attention. I didn't hold the safety in, got
- 3:38about halfway back and let her eat.
- 3:40That'll do it. Then the other one I don't even
- 3:43know what happened on the other one just like my thumb slipped
- 3:46off the safety or did something. That was all she wrote.
- 3:50Or maybe I was shooting my button and it was set way too
- 3:53light and it went off halfway or something like that there.
- 3:57Seems to be a real debate in this household or barn hold or
- 4:01yeah, shed hold Shaw hold. That's so that's that also
- 4:06sounds very strange, but on what light you know, actually is for
- 4:12a button 'cause I heard a lot of back and forth on that's light.
- 4:16No, that's not that's light. No, that's not.
- 4:18And then meanwhile, I think if any other normal, sane Archer
- 4:22picked up either of y'all's buttons, they'd be like, there's
- 4:27no shot in hell I'd shoot that period thing go off halfway in
- 4:29my draw. And you guys are just like,
- 4:31that's not light at all. Yes, it is.
- 4:33No, it's not. So yeah, I find that one's a
- 4:36funny one there. It's too light.
- 4:38I'm like, I don't think you can make them any lighter before the
- 4:40button falls off the release. He.
- 4:42Wraps way harder than I do from the start.
- 4:45Like I just love. Like just this little dainty
- 4:48touch. Yeah, and he like.
- 4:50It is dainty. I mean that that one release.
- 4:52Slam your thumb on it and. Like, let it roll.
- 4:54You can almost like lock it and then go like this and gravity
- 4:57will set it off, you know what I'm saying?
- 4:59If the barrel's heavy enough, which is nice.
- 5:01You have to hold it in place because if you let go, it will
- 5:04fall. You got to, you got to push it
- 5:06forward when you draw. That's that's the trick.
- 5:08You have to push the button forward.
- 5:09Tipped it the button weight like not touching his thumb on it at
- 5:12all but just tilted it wrong it would fire.
- 5:15That's. Crazy.
- 5:16It's insane. That one's way too light.
- 5:20I like light. I mean, the Carter is pretty
- 5:22light, but I think that thing's got to be that, thing is.
- 5:25That thing is spicy. It's.
- 5:26Spicy it is. That's.
- 5:28What I use for months, my hunt and release.
- 5:30That's perfect. So you just if you feel the
- 5:33barrel touch the button, you know, there's, there's, there's
- 5:36none of or your thumb touch the button, there's, there's none of
- 5:38this going on. It's just.
- 5:41Bam, yeah, you don't ever Rev up the engine and just.
- 5:44No. Open fist at this, you know,
- 5:47hammer that sucker home, bend the trigger.
- 5:49You know what I mean? No.
- 5:51No, it's just more of like a slow squeeze and if my finger,
- 5:56if my finger feels it, it's already in the animal.
- 5:58It's already in there, which is nice.
- 6:01Speaking of animals, in the background, here we can see your
- 6:05new draft mount that you you love and it looks amazing.
- 6:09So how long did it take to get back and were you, was it what
- 6:14you expected, better or worse? 2 years, a little over 2 years,
- 6:20two years and three months. And it's better than I thought.
- 6:25Like they sent pictures and I'm like severe OCD, hypercritical.
- 6:30And I was like, oh, they did this weird really sharp neck
- 6:32turn and like, I don't know, is he like leaning weird?
- 6:35Like I kept looking at the photos and I'm like, take look
- 6:38at like, and we had different angles, you know?
- 6:40And I was like, like, it's fine. Like I'll be OK with it.
- 6:43But I didn't think it was that good.
- 6:45And then even when it was in the crate, like I looked at him in
- 6:47the crate and went, oh, it's better than I thought for sure.
- 6:50Because it stayed in the crate overnight because we couldn't
- 6:53really get it out. So we waited for Greg Poole to
- 6:54come down the next day and help. And so then when we got it in
- 6:57and got it set up, I was like, whoa, they did way better than
- 7:01what I expected. Now, did you in the process of
- 7:05ordering this thing? Did you double check your
- 7:09ceiling height? So with the map so because.
- 7:15You got definitely got clearance, but like there's a
- 7:17chance that they straight necked that thing.
- 7:19It wasn't going to fit in the house.
- 7:21We didn't even live here when I got that mount.
- 7:25We lived in the other house. And it would have had room there
- 7:29as well. Yeah, maybe.
- 7:31No, I don't. No, Yeah, Honestly, I didn't
- 7:34really know. I didn't really.
- 7:35I don't know what your thought process was.
- 7:37I will change the house to fit the giraffe.
- 7:41So then I we got this place and I was like, the ceilings are a
- 7:44little higher in here. And so I was like, yeah, I told
- 7:47them. So initially like I, I, if you
- 7:50look at a lot of my mouths, they're like very straight and
- 7:52very square. No like sneaks or weird stuff.
- 7:55Like again, OCDI just like to be symmetrical.
- 7:59And so I they. Look like something in a a bar
- 8:01from the 1940s like. I'm getting a little better, OK,
- 8:05But I wanted it straight and then I knew if we put the curve
- 8:08in it that it would eat up a lot of the height.
- 8:10So I was like, all right, let's try that.
- 8:12So I looked up some photos and found some net curve.
- 8:15And then the biggest thing on that, if you now I'm going to
- 8:19ruin all the draft mounts for you, if you go look and they
- 8:23don't and they don't put the legs at the bottom, it just
- 8:27looks like a Dick and balls really like the front chest.
- 8:31Yeah, I'll even like pull. Up.
- 8:33Oh I see, because it looks like 2 big old knuckles down.
- 8:36There, yes, not very not bad, not impressive size wise, but
- 8:40yes, I do see the shape. You know, I do see it now.
- 8:43Yeah, it looks small. Though right on my paper.
- 8:47Must have. Do not make it look like a Dick
- 8:49and balls. Really.
- 8:50Yeah. And I would say it doesn't,
- 8:52unless you got Peroni's disease real bad and that curve is just
- 8:56hooking. You know, They make medication
- 8:59for it, you know? I really did not want that.
- 9:02Like look at look at this. OK, let me take a look here.
- 9:04You're. Going to throw it.
- 9:06We got to I Oh my God, there's no way.
- 9:10There's no way I'm. Not kidding.
- 9:13There's no way that's insane. Bad look at it.
- 9:20See what I'm saying? Yeah, like I said, I'm not
- 9:23impressed by the size at all, but but it is.
- 9:27That is funny. Oh dude, you.
- 9:31Should just pause it. Just go go look up some draft
- 9:35monster. Absolute, absolute chaos on set.
- 9:38That was my biggest input. It's like you have to leave the
- 9:43legs, some front leg for some shape.
- 9:45So no, they crushed it. They did really good.
- 9:47And then my plan, because I didn't know that it would fit,
- 9:51was if it didn't fit, I was just going to leave it laying over,
- 9:53decide where we wanted it. And we were just going to cut a
- 9:55hole in the sheetrock and then just build a little pop up real
- 9:58fast. So his.
- 9:59Head could go in it. And then whenever we get an
- 10:01actual house built here, then just flatten that little thing
- 10:05back out on the ceiling. So that was my plan.
- 10:07Worst case scenario if he didn't fit.
- 10:09At least you had a backup, you know.
- 10:10Always good. We we said we could just push up
- 10:13one of the little like crawl hole spaces or this one in the
- 10:16middle in the meantime and just stick his head up there to stand
- 10:18him up and then cut a hole. I still.
- 10:20Don't think his head would have fit in that hole but.
- 10:22I didn't. I didn't even think about his
- 10:24head is like literally this big. Yeah.
- 10:26So I don't think it would have fit either, but we didn't think
- 10:29that far ahead. That's wild.
- 10:31At the San Diego Safari Park. Fun fact, you can actually take
- 10:36you can do something where you get that feed the giraffes.
- 10:39I've done it. Have you are?
- 10:41You there still? Never done that in my life.
- 10:42Aren't their tongues like? Yeah, you like do that.
- 10:44Their tongues wrap like around the thing and your arm.
- 10:46It's like. No, really.
- 10:48Like long Wow. Yeah, I'm impressed by that.
- 10:51Yeah, that's impressive. Yeah.
- 10:53So we just went to, we went to a dinner.
- 10:57A supper with your parents. Yeah, your mom.
- 11:01I love her. OK.
- 11:02She's a wild lady. Would you like to tell her
- 11:05famous story? The family story?
- 11:07How long? Ago did this take place?
- 11:09Not this year, but the year before.
- 11:11Two years ago. Yeah, because they just caught
- 11:13back from their last hunt. Yeah, and I think she kept her
- 11:16clothes on. OK, this time you.
- 11:18Know 7:00 to give her age but you know within a bracket of
- 11:21like. She was almost 60.
- 11:24Yeah, OK. We're not talking like this
- 11:26happened when she was a, you know, a a young and like she
- 11:29just did this a couple years. Ago.
- 11:31It's not surprising at all. So what happened?
- 11:33Are you going to put her on blast?
- 11:34Are you going to sit on? OK, So what happened?
- 11:36I really need to do is find the photo.
- 11:37You know how there's that AI search?
- 11:39Yeah. Do you think if I search like
- 11:41naked lady it will my even my photos?
- 11:44I've never tried it but. I'm about to.
- 11:48Definitely never tried it, that's for sure.
- 11:50I have never searched anything like that on the Internet or my
- 11:53phone. Not one time.
- 11:55Never. Just so everyone knows, you
- 11:58know. Well, I'm it didn't work.
- 12:00That's actually really disappointing.
- 12:01I thought that might actually happen.
- 12:04Text her for that photo real quick while I out her on this
- 12:07story so. I bet you you just search your
- 12:11mom's. It's in your mom.
- 12:12Yeah, but it doesn't download anymore like it's own.
- 12:15But it's not your mom. Oh, that's good.
- 12:19So they're in Arizona. They're hunting here.
- 12:23We hunt in like thick trees, right?
- 12:25So no ones like sitting glassing from afar.
- 12:27And a lot of the Archer hunting stuff living around here, that
- 12:29doesn't really happen. So her issue is she just thinks
- 12:32if she looks like this and there's no people, there's no
- 12:35people. OK, Well, in the desert in
- 12:37Arizona, like everyone's just sitting on Ridge lines, like
- 12:41glassing. And so she kind of forgets that
- 12:44there's people that can see her. So she was trying to do
- 12:48something with a blind, I think, like brush it in or do whatever.
- 12:51And she had a machete and she did not want to sweat in her
- 12:55clothes because it was hot. So she took all of her clothes
- 12:58off on the top. So if she sweated, they would
- 13:01stink like all like bra and all like and everything.
- 13:05Bosom's out, you know, out and about, OK.
- 13:09And she's out there just hacking brush with a machete, like doing
- 13:15whatever shit that she does. And it would have been fine.
- 13:19Like, had she done that, she would have come back and told
- 13:21us. And then we laugh.
- 13:22Whatever. Well, where the story really
- 13:24gets wild is my dad is then like in town or the gas station or
- 13:27something, not even seeing these guys every day.
- 13:29And so, hey, how's it going? You see any deer, you see any
- 13:31bucks, blah blah. And so we asked them and they
- 13:33said no, but we saw a naked lady in the desert.
- 13:35You want to see? And my dad, of course, be my dad
- 13:38is like, yeah, let me see. Yeah, of course.
- 13:40So I will pull it up. It's my freaking mom.
- 13:45Stand by the quad with a machete.
- 13:48And I'm like, are you kidding me?
- 13:50And my dad was so mortified he didn't even say anything.
- 13:53He was just like, oh that's cool.
- 13:55Like awesome and panicked. So then he comes back, he calls
- 13:59me. He's like, Oh my God.
- 14:01He's like, why is your mom do this shit?
- 14:03So it was like we laugh for about two days and I said, if
- 14:06you see them again, you need to tell them that that's your wife
- 14:10and you should ask him for the photo because I really want it.
- 14:13And so he did like a couple days later, he ran into the guys and
- 14:16he was like, hey, like you have that picture?
- 14:19And they're like, yeah. And he ended up telling them
- 14:20like, man, that's my wife. And the guys were like, I'm
- 14:23sorry, man, I didn't even know. He's like, oh, no, it's cool.
- 14:25It's cool. Like, it's fine.
- 14:26If she, if she does that, she deserves it.
- 14:29So we keep trying to explain to her.
- 14:30And she said, she told you this tonight.
- 14:32I looked, I didn't see anyone. And it's like my, they're like
- 14:35they could have had spotting scopes on you a mile.
- 14:38Away, yeah. Just like look at this over
- 14:40here. That's an iconic story there's.
- 14:43Picture like it's like that is just wild, Wild West.
- 14:50Like I your mom's a oh, Gee, like, I just picture a lady out
- 14:56there six years old, just boobs swinging.
- 14:58Just, yeah, swinging them Establish.
- 15:00What I eat Sure she's hard on your mom.
- 15:02Now. She's straight up hardcore.
- 15:04There's another story where I think she killed a deer and
- 15:08didn't want to get blood on her clothes and so she literally
- 15:11took her whole shirt off and hugged this bloody deer to get
- 15:14it on the bike. And then my dad, my dad happened
- 15:18to drive wherever she was and catch her shirtless with said
- 15:24deer. And then she's like getting
- 15:25redressed. Really doesn't like like I've
- 15:28been hot in the desert, but I'm like, you know the.
- 15:34It's edited, guys. It's child appropriate.
- 15:37You're good, you're good. Look at that.
- 15:38That is iconic. So fun with the Honda Foreman
- 15:42too. I you know what?
- 15:44So there's a couple funny parts to this.
- 15:46One is obviously the whole scenario, but the funny part is
- 15:49like, I can't think of a less efficient tool to cut Mesquite
- 15:54bushes and stuff than a machete. It's a terrible choice of a
- 15:57tool. Like a lopper would be so much
- 15:59better. Just a nice lopper or a hedge
- 16:02trimmer. So I find it funny like someone
- 16:04just batting like, what are you you're going?
- 16:07Is that a homeless person? Like what is happening out here?
- 16:11Maybe she was trying to get it from the bottom, like she wanted
- 16:13to get a whole Bush out. Of the thing.
- 16:16And so she was going from the side, like sideswiping a whole
- 16:19Bush. I don't think we ever know.
- 16:21That's a great story. Pretty hardcore.
- 16:23Like when they hunt like she hunts by herself, Yeah.
- 16:26Six cells swinging machetes naked in the desert.
- 16:28Yeah, you know, loading my own deer and stuff, that's.
- 16:31Freaking badass, I know. Yeah, shout out to her.
- 16:33That's awesome, but we did a lot today.
- 16:37He gets so embarrassed. I'm so sore.
- 16:39Never. Nothing amazes me anymore.
- 16:41Yeah, he's so jaded to it, you know.
- 16:43Yeah, when we first started dating, it was like, I don't
- 16:46know if you're going to be able to take my family.
- 16:49Like everyone thinks I'm bad. And then they meet the other
- 16:52three and it's like I actually am a pretty mild version
- 16:55compared to the rest of them so. He's.
- 16:58Adjusted, I think, pretty nicely.
- 17:00Now he just does. Smile and nod.
- 17:02Smile and nod. That's honestly the best move.
- 17:07It's like when it's like when not you, of course.
- 17:09But sometimes when someone calls you and just rambles and rambles
- 17:13and you just eventually convert, you adjust to going.
- 17:16That's crazy. Wow.
- 17:18A lot. Recently.
- 17:19Nice. You know that feel.
- 17:21That's Tate a lot. It starts off with the yeah.
- 17:27Wow, wow, Do you even hear what I said You're.
- 17:30Like Yep, this on it, you know, make it sound like you like you
- 17:34got to change it up otherwise it just sounds the same every time
- 17:37so you. Got for a little bit of like.
- 17:39Every once in a while. Excitement in your voice every
- 17:42now and then, every. Third word.
- 17:43Every third word. Yeah.
- 17:44It's enough to make it yourself seem engaged.
- 17:46What'd you say? Get that.
- 17:48Oh, what? Wow.
- 17:49And then go back to the Yeah. No, I don't disagree.
- 17:55So we got some big stuff happening Olympic Games and
- 17:57you're a contender, a strong contender to make the team.
- 18:01That's got to be pretty exciting one personally, but also for the
- 18:04sport that you've been both of y'all have been in for a long,
- 18:08long time. What is what do you think
- 18:10that'll do for like when you make the team?
- 18:13What do you what do you think that'll do for like you
- 18:15personally, but also the sport as a whole?
- 18:17Like does I have potential to be a pretty pretty good?
- 18:20Big look, you're going to like my answer.
- 18:21OK, that's fine. I.
- 18:22Don't think it's going to do that much for us, honestly.
- 18:26Like if we weren't in America, we were a different country,
- 18:31then I think it's a really big deal.
- 18:33But if you look at the medal count for like Olympic gold
- 18:36medalists at the Olympics from the US, like when you win
- 18:39Olympic gold medal in the US, you kind of don't get shit.
- 18:42And they like tax you for the cost of your medal.
- 18:45Like it's. Yeah, that's an interesting one.
- 18:48Yeah, that's a mess. Like they're wanting you to be
- 18:52there. Yeah, they want you to win a
- 18:56medal for their country, but you need to pay the taxes to.
- 19:00Have it like in in our country, you know, there's people who win
- 19:04a medal. It does you don't it doesn't
- 19:06change your life. Like, as sad as that is, now
- 19:09there's other countries and, and friends of mine, I even know
- 19:12from other countries who've won Olympic medals and they will get
- 19:15like a stipend, salary for life and things like that where it
- 19:19really is like big and impactful.
- 19:20And I know there's other countries where like their
- 19:23family might get a house or like a car, like big money, big
- 19:27things. That's really cool.
- 19:28We don't have that here. And so if we stay, yeah, we're
- 19:34going to pay. Our state blows me our country.
- 19:37Blows me away if we get to stay in the Olympics because this is
- 19:40basically like a trial run. There's only going to be 12
- 19:43countries and one male and one female from those countries, so
- 19:47only 24 compounders total. Kind of like break dancing,
- 19:50laughs. Yes.
- 19:51So hopefully we don't end up like break dancing.
- 19:54That Lady from Australia still a legend though.
- 19:56Dude, everyone's seen that clip. Everyone's seen.
- 19:59Everyone knows who that is. Yeah, she the most famous one
- 20:01from the whole thing. Yeah, you know what I'm saying?
- 20:02You. Know how many break kids are?
- 20:04Probably hate her after that, yeah.
- 20:06She ruined it for all of them. You know how horrible it would
- 20:09be if like, there's an Archer and that happens?
- 20:11And you Shank A7, you know, on one of the shot don't do what
- 20:15the what the guy from YouTube did you know?
- 20:19Yeah, we don't want that. Yeah, don't be another
- 20:21influencer. Exactly.
- 20:22Line of the day, yeah. Oh good.
- 20:26But yeah. It's late, but if if we get to
- 20:29stay in, then I think over like long term time, I think it would
- 20:33definitely have some impact. It's going to be important.
- 20:35Like I think it'll be really cool, but because it's a trial
- 20:38event, I think there's a lot more pressure to not just shoot
- 20:42well, but like be a personality, like get archery in front of
- 20:45people because that's what we need to do to be able to keep it
- 20:48in. So I think that should be even
- 20:50more of our focus. Like whoever ends up making the
- 20:52team and earning those spots, like the people who go to the
- 20:55Olympics need to be out there promoting archery and being a
- 20:59good personality and like represent representative of the
- 21:01sport. Because obviously a lot of
- 21:03people aren't watching archery, let's be honest.
- 21:05And so if we want the. Chance to say what if like you
- 21:09know how they did for ice dancing this year they did a
- 21:15Netflix like reality series that would be kind of ice dancing
- 21:19like what if, which I think they should like if they're bringing
- 21:22a new sport into not they as in like the Olympic council or
- 21:26whoever runs the Olympics, I don't know.
- 21:29But like archery as a whole, whoever it is, whether it's like
- 21:33the USA organization or foundation, or if they don't
- 21:37feel like doing it, then ASA should jump in.
- 21:39Even if it's not, that's not the sport.
- 21:41You know, they're actually in the Olympics.
- 21:42Somebody needs to jump in and speak to something like Netflix
- 21:46and say, how can we get this, you know, funded or what?
- 21:48What does it cost us to do that? Or would you be interested?
- 21:51Because there's your chance to start breaking into mainstream
- 21:56show into a lot more than just because who's going to watch
- 21:58archery on the Olympics? The fucking Archers when they
- 22:01air. But if it airs on Netflix, Yeah,
- 22:03exactly. Not the prime time, but when it
- 22:06airs on Netflix and the Olympics comes around.
- 22:08So what's getting shown at the top of Netflix right now?
- 22:11Everything about the fucking Olympics or or shows or that are
- 22:15fictional about the Olympics or things that are in the Olympics.
- 22:18That's the stuff that's going to start getting the sport more
- 22:21recognized. Good idea.
- 22:23And yet, but who? Who, like someone in archery,
- 22:28has to think of it. And do you know?
- 22:30You know what, it's kind of lame about archery, if you want to be
- 22:34honest. And I'm going to give you credit
- 22:36for this. Right now, a lot of The Archers
- 22:39are just boring and dull. But in our defense, that's what
- 22:43they wanted us to be like. They conditioned us to be like,
- 22:46don't show personality and like don't show emotion and like, you
- 22:49don't celebrate when you win and you don't, do you?
- 22:51Don't be sad when you lose like we were kind of when I was
- 22:55coming out, like built to be these little like robot looking
- 22:59people in a way emotionless. Still looks like.
- 23:02Yes, and so it is and so everyone in archery is like
- 23:08judging to where if I'd like, if I go win the next tournament and
- 23:12I won and was like like all excited people be like what is
- 23:16she doing? Like I'd be a man, someone would
- 23:19be talking shit. So you're interesting for
- 23:22archery because you are not what they've conditioned us to be.
- 23:27And I do think that's pretty cool because it's a brush, a
- 23:29breath of fresh air. And I remember when you kind of
- 23:32first came on the scene and I was like watching you and not
- 23:35like on YouTube, but I mean, like in our knowledge of who you
- 23:38guys were. And we're like, damn, they're a
- 23:40lot. You guys are.
- 23:42But here's the thing, you're not.
- 23:44Because that's who we all actually are.
- 23:46The first video I ever. Just show it.
- 23:49The first video I ever saw him was his music video, obviously.
- 23:53Oh yes, the iconic. Even though I will say that
- 23:57seven you launched down there tonight, your archery career is
- 24:01definitely better than your singing career.
- 24:03Yeah, for sure, for sure. My first video of him was him
- 24:07eating tacos and puking. One of my favorites ever.
- 24:10I want to redo that. But you know, it's actually
- 24:12interesting you say that and I appreciate the kind of words,
- 24:15but Greg asked me like, you know, what made you want to do
- 24:20the like the indoor stuff and and document like the whole
- 24:23thing? And for me, it was a couple
- 24:25things. One, I love competing and I know
- 24:28I'm a good shooter, like I especially at outdoor, but
- 24:31indoor, I knew I could get good if I spend enough time with it.
- 24:34I have skill as a shooter. But then the main reason was
- 24:38that I wanted to make it seem more accessible and approachable
- 24:46to do stuff that scares a lot of people who are like, you know,
- 24:50scared of being made fun of or judged or whatever.
- 24:53And Greg was saying how we really need people who just
- 24:57shoot recreationally to want to shoot indoor for fun.
- 25:01And for me, it's a win win because the content does really
- 25:05well. People love watching the
- 25:07competitions and me seeing what I can do, you know, because the,
- 25:13I guess the perception of YouTube influencers usually is
- 25:17that they can't shoot at all, can't hunt at all.
- 25:19And I can hunt and I can shoot. So for me it was like, if I do
- 25:23poorly, it doesn't matter. No one expects me to do good
- 25:25anyways. If I do good, then it's great
- 25:28because that's what I expect to do.
- 25:31But then it's just a bonus. But the contents good either
- 25:34way. And hopefully it gets more
- 25:37people wanting to shoot their bow in more capacity than what
- 25:41they're already doing. And already since I've started
- 25:46filming that indoor stuff and putting it out, we have gotten
- 25:49so many comments of people saying, like, I want to go out
- 25:53and get a target bow and try this stuff.
- 25:55Like try something they've never done.
- 25:56They've only ever shot a hunting bow like a lot of people.
- 26:00And I think just breaking down the barrier and saying, hey, you
- 26:03can go, you can have fun. And the reality is, to your
- 26:06point, I like everybody and I'm a people person, you know, and
- 26:10but you go look and a lot of the people that are talking so much
- 26:15smack up to me about doing the stuff are the nitty gritty
- 26:19target people who don't know me. And in reality, like a lot of
- 26:23them, I would smoke, you know what I'm saying?
- 26:25So it's like, I don't take it personally.
- 26:28But to your point, I think that that stonewalling that is sort
- 26:31of done by like the purists or what have you is all that's
- 26:35doing, in my opinion, is holding the sport back.
- 26:38So for me, if I have to be the first, first, you know,
- 26:41influencer to go out and actually show up and put up
- 26:45results and. Go to Vegas and do.
- 26:47The let it happen, you know, so you know this year we're doing
- 26:51reading the Triple Crown series in Arizona and and then of
- 26:55course Vegas and hopefully next year a lot more.
- 26:59But I think you should be able to go shoot attack or go shoot
- 27:02in the backyard or go do a local 3D or go do reading in Vegas and
- 27:06just like have have fun and do all of them.
- 27:09Not to do that though. Like, you know how many shops
- 27:12that have indoor ranges once indoor season rolls around and
- 27:16running ends do leagues, you know?
- 27:19So when hunting ends and it's you live in a town that freaking
- 27:24snows, like instead of putting your bow back under your bed
- 27:28every Tuesday night, you head to the bow shop and you shoot your
- 27:32league. You know, like you're still,
- 27:35you're still shooting, which is the the part that like we're
- 27:38trying, you know, keeping you involved in the sport, but
- 27:42you're also picking up something that is just for, for fun and
- 27:46like to get better at shooting. And that, you know, I think a
- 27:50purist is a good word to call the people who are like that.
- 27:54The purists would say like, Oh well, we don't want you
- 27:57demeaning the sport or making it sound like it's easier than it.
- 28:00Is the person that said that? Because I, I read that comment,
- 28:04I think I responded, I think I responded to that guy on your
- 28:07post. But a lot of people that say
- 28:09that probably aren't even very good themselves.
- 28:11Yeah. Or don't even own a target
- 28:14though, you know, don't even shoot target both of the target.
- 28:17Archers, like if you go to a tournament and you're shooting,
- 28:21people won't treat you like that.
- 28:22So it's weird because the the people who say that stuff on the
- 28:26Internet are not the people that like we are shooting, of course.
- 28:29Of course you never see people leave negative comments on any
- 28:33sport. I don't care what it is,
- 28:35motorcycling, mountain biking, rock climbing, The people that
- 28:38are out there and are pretty good at it and having a lot of
- 28:41fun and active in it are never the ones trolling people
- 28:45bringing them down. It's the people sitting at home
- 28:47wishing they were doing that. So rather than go in and do it,
- 28:50they'll just talk smack about whoever is actually doing it.
- 28:54So for me, I'll tell you, I don't care either.
- 28:56Negative. I'll take negative comments
- 28:57forever and you know it doesn't matter.
- 29:00I I just hope that one, what we're doing in any of our videos
- 29:05helps to grow the sport of archery and also help people
- 29:08shoot more year round because what hunters always say is, oh,
- 29:11I just want to practice to get better at hunting.
- 29:13That's great. But you know what shooting
- 29:14indoor does, it makes you a lot better.
- 29:16Shooting your bow hunting, shooting your bow more is always
- 29:20going to be a good thing in my opinion.
- 29:22And like Brianna said, a lot of folks do shoot a week before
- 29:25hunting season, hunting season, bow gone the rest of the year.
- 29:30But yeah, if you go shoot league on a Tuesday night, even if it's
- 29:33not every week, once a month, that's still a lot better than
- 29:36nothing. Two weeks during hunting season.
- 29:38And that's what I'm saying. It doesn't what whatever you
- 29:40want to call just the the key, it's just calm keyboard wars.
- 29:43The people are out there throwing comments or whatever it
- 29:47it doesn't demean the professionalism of the people
- 29:50who do it professionally at all. At the end of the day, more
- 29:55people involved in the sport and it's like, you should yeah,
- 30:00sure. It's been a rolling topic for
- 30:01the past like 3 pods. Now we including this one of of
- 30:05of infighting versus bickering. Like, is this a hill to die on?
- 30:10You know, of like making the sport fun or just getting
- 30:14people, you know, interested in wanting to have a target bow for
- 30:17a hobby? No, it's not.
- 30:20It's not worth bickering about, you know, like it's just so
- 30:23pointless. But it does crack me up because
- 30:25it is, it is hilarious being on the sidelines and knowing like,
- 30:29obviously he's not, you know, in the male side like Bodie Turner.
- 30:34Yeah, but he is darn good, you know, and I'm not saying he's
- 30:39going to go out there and place top five with a Perot, like if
- 30:43he went and did the championship class.
- 30:45Not saying that at all, but why not if you're good in the sport
- 30:51will challenge yourself to something different if you've
- 30:53done nothing but shoot your hunting bow your whole life,
- 30:56Like pick up a different boat. It doesn't even have to be a
- 30:59targetable like go pick up a trap bow or something.
- 31:02Just go challenge yourself to do something even harder than
- 31:06you've been doing. That's that's all you know, I
- 31:10find it find interesting. I say all that, I don't practice
- 31:13at all. But I want to point something
- 31:17out and I don't know, I've, I've never seen you guys talk about
- 31:20this, but we've said this about you.
- 31:23This is kind of an add on to what we're talking about right
- 31:25now with what you guys are doing.
- 31:27What's different from you versus the other influencers?
- 31:31And This is why we respect you guys so much.
- 31:33But everybody comes on and claims I'm the best hunter, I
- 31:37killed the biggest deer, I'm the best shooter, I'm a pro shooter
- 31:41level. But I just don't shoot
- 31:42tournaments. Like you see all these people
- 31:45that are online and they're making all these claims and
- 31:48they're trying to use those claims to get somewhere, to gain
- 31:52followers, to grow their platform or to sound credible.
- 31:57What's so interesting about what you guys did is it was just, I'm
- 32:00going to come in, I'm a real person showing you real life
- 32:05things and I'm going to make archery fun as fuck.
- 32:08It was not, hey, I'm the best bow technician.
- 32:11I own a shop, I'm the best hunter on this, on that.
- 32:13You just keep it real and you show them what you're actually
- 32:16doing. And you've never made like lies,
- 32:19false claims, exaggerations on anything that you've done to try
- 32:22to make people believe you. You just be real.
- 32:25There's not very many people doing that.
- 32:27Like that's a niche that honestly, I don't know that
- 32:30anyone else has even done and I think that's why you guys have
- 32:34been really successful. So I don't know I've never said
- 32:36that to you, but we we have said that to our own people because
- 32:41they've said, hey, what's the deal with that guy?
- 32:43Because you're different. You're not.
- 32:45Everybody else has look. At the molar, you know.
- 32:50Everyone else has approached it. But when you.
- 32:52Fraid it like that? To an end soon it has to.
- 32:54I don't. Know it's pretty.
- 32:55It's not. I'm gonna keep it.
- 32:56Yeah. Don't listen to her.
- 32:57Yeah. We could almost braid it.
- 32:59Yeah. Oh, we should.
- 33:00If you can braid my hair, let's do it.
- 33:03Let's do it. Let's do it.
- 33:04No, I, I mean, I appreciate that.
- 33:06And it's, it's interesting just in general.
- 33:10We're talking to Greg on the pod That's not out yet, but we were
- 33:15talking to him about advice that he would give to up and comers,
- 33:19whether it be they're trying to get a sponsorship for being a
- 33:22competitor or for for being a YouTube or whatever.
- 33:26Because Greg does a lot of contracts for brands and that's
- 33:28something he's done for a long time.
- 33:29In fact, he did my contract at Beast and probably yours too,
- 33:33you know. And the first thing he said was
- 33:36that number one on his list is authenticity from people.
- 33:41And it doesn't matter if they're competitors or influencers,
- 33:45whatever. That's the first and foremost
- 33:47thing he looks for. So I think to your point, the
- 33:50more you can show up authentic, that's dope.
- 33:53And you, you've always done that too, because last year, like we
- 33:56said, none of us had met and that's why it's different.
- 33:58This year is like you guys and us were like nervous last year
- 34:03because we didn't know each other.
- 34:04So. Nervous Yeah, so of course we
- 34:06are too. We're going to shoot with the
- 34:08champ like this is crazy. But this year, you know, in in
- 34:12had y'all you met us or we met you and we're like, oh bro, this
- 34:17is this person sucks. This isn't what I expected.
- 34:20You know that would have sucked, but it's not the case and it's
- 34:23it's dope. Or the same people that you see
- 34:26on the Internet. And I feel like there's so many
- 34:28people and we both met a lot of those who were like, what you
- 34:31see on the Internet, you like expect that.
- 34:33And then you get there and you're like, who is that?
- 34:36Like what has happened? And so there's not a lot of
- 34:39people out there keeping it real.
- 34:41And the other thing too, like, OK, we just talk shit about your
- 34:437. You probably shot 150 other
- 34:46really good arrows today. Yeah, they shot a lot.
- 34:50And so it's just what I appreciate about that is the
- 34:55keeping it real. Like even on the pro side, like
- 34:57there's people who only talk about when they do great, they
- 35:00don't share their highs and their lows.
- 35:02Like they don't want to seem human because they want to seem
- 35:05like a pro. Well, we all go through that.
- 35:07So like I've always tried to be upfront, open, honest.
- 35:10Like if I'm making changes, I'm testing things, like I like to
- 35:13share that that stuff and it does open me up to more
- 35:16criticism. I can take it, it's fine.
- 35:18But I would rather do it like that and feel like I am honest
- 35:22and have nothing to hide then try to hide behind social media
- 35:26to make myself seem better, cooler or or more successful
- 35:30than what I actually am. Yeah.
- 35:31I mean, not a lot of people who do that.
- 35:33I just saw you do that this past weekend, right?
- 35:35Or maybe the last couple of days before we came over here, you
- 35:39put up a post that was like, oh, I did a today I shot or
- 35:42yesterday I shot a 297. And then the next day was like a
- 35:45298 or something. And I was like, OK, I got a
- 35:48shot, you know, But like, that was to me, that's cool.
- 35:51That's cool that. Under burst your bubble.
- 35:52Yeah, I don't know what that means.
- 35:54That was on the X round. The little.
- 35:55X OK, but either. But it was a 28X.
- 35:58So I don't even. 27X with 23, so it was actually really good.
- 36:02Yeah, but my point is like, I don't even know.
- 36:04I don't even know that right. But my point, my point is it's
- 36:08dope that you're no matter what you score because I've seen you
- 36:11do it before. You're going to put it up
- 36:13regardless. And to me, that's really, really
- 36:15cool. Now I want to, I want to toss
- 36:17the ball to tape because I asked this question earlier to Paige.
- 36:20He was working. So maybe he heard it, maybe he
- 36:22didn't. He was very focused.
- 36:24He was focused though, so he he, he probably.
- 36:29No, I was just trying to focus on what I was doing because I
- 36:31had stuff on you. He.
- 36:32Was focused, Brianna. So here's here.
- 36:35I honestly, I don't know who was Moody.
- 36:36It was interesting. You know, I love but who here?
- 36:39Here's my question. OK, I'm in the archery space
- 36:43right now. It's just like the whole climate
- 36:46of it. What's the wackest thing right
- 36:49now that's, like, common? Like, just something you see in
- 36:51here, like that's goofy. We should probably stop doing
- 36:53that. Like, whoa.
- 36:55Anything come to mind? It could be any, but it could be
- 36:58any companies, it could be people, it could be, yeah.
- 37:01Trends, social media, anything. That's a tough one.
- 37:07Hi, Yeah. It is.
- 37:10It was that earlier and I was like, woof.
- 37:11I hit Greg with it too, and he thought about it, he pondered it
- 37:14and he gave up. One A1A and A1B.
- 37:17He did? Yeah, he had.
- 37:18He had multiple answers, yeah. I had one pretty definitive 1.
- 37:23And I think one of yours, your yours was one of his, OK or very
- 37:27similar to it, OK. I'll have to come back to that
- 37:30one. OK, we'll loop back.
- 37:31I'll have to think on that one. When?
- 37:33You're ready no matter what people are talking about.
- 37:35Just go. And then we'll start going to
- 37:37log it in, yeah. We'll follow it up with now you
- 37:39hold on, I'm going to ask a question then you can just cut
- 37:42this out if you can't answer. All right.
- 37:44Can you talk about the new site coming out yet or no?
- 37:47Umm no, I can't give any like details on.
- 37:51It then we won't talk about it. That's something new is coming
- 37:54out. That's a leak.
- 37:55Right there I would. Just say that's a leak right
- 37:57there. Something new?
- 37:58Yeah, we have a new site. Yeah, and it's.
- 38:00Well, we'll have a Black Gold have a new site coming out in
- 38:04mid-april to early May. And it's nice.
- 38:07Flock to your shop when it does, I mean run their Sprint.
- 38:11It's a pretty that's pretty sweet.
- 38:13Past the speed limit. It has everything to be thought
- 38:17of, has been thought of on it. So facts.
- 38:19Very detailed. I want it.
- 38:22Yeah, want it. Brianna, we need to get shooting
- 38:25her about. Well, OK, what's the best way
- 38:26she wants to increase her draw poundage?
- 38:28Obviously there's workouts and stuff you could do.
- 38:30I always say the best thing you can do is shoot more.
- 38:33What would you guys agree with that?
- 38:34So just shoot more so. With what you saw at the end of
- 38:37the day where we started doing like match play alternating,
- 38:40like tomorrow we're going to do some closest to center stuff
- 38:42that's even more fun. But I think it's doing things
- 38:47like that where if you just said, hey, pick your bow up,
- 38:49let's just shoot a 15 arrow match.
- 38:51Like that's not intimidating. It's not a lot of arrows, it's
- 38:53not bad, but it's going to make you better.
- 38:55It's still practice. You're still going to build
- 38:56strength. And so I think it's stuff like
- 38:59that where if you just look at it like, I have to do this and
- 39:01it's grueling and I have to shoot X amount of arrows, like
- 39:04that's not very exciting and like nobody wants to do that,
- 39:06but we should shoot together. I'm going to that I need a way
- 39:11to make it fun because for me shooting like indoors is the
- 39:15most. I don't know how y'all have done
- 39:18it. I think the most boring shit
- 39:22I've ever done. I think it's fun.
- 39:24I tell you I tried. I love indoors, it's like
- 39:26therapeutic. Went with James and I brought my
- 39:28bow to the the shop and we put up, you know, target for me and
- 39:33a target for him. I made it 6 ends and I quit.
- 39:37I said this sucks and I quit. I didn't even finish all round
- 39:42and I've never done it since. So I only go and I filmed for
- 39:46him. What he's doing is like Road to
- 39:47Vegas stuff, but the problem is so I need to find a way to make
- 39:52it fun at home because James knows it's like a running joke.
- 39:55Every time I say I'm going to do it and he finishes just a
- 39:57sentence for me now and he goes like oh wait, you're going to
- 39:59say you need to shoot in the house.
- 40:00I'm like, yeah, I was going to say that.
- 40:03And you know how many times I've promptly done it one time and I
- 40:08shot 2 arrows and it was on the shitty ass target that's so hard
- 40:12to pull out of. I literally left my arrows in it
- 40:14and said fuck this Jake you can get off.
- 40:18She's shooting 48 lbs. I'm like, it's not hard to pull
- 40:21them like. And.
- 40:23But so I need to come up with a game, but it's got to be a
- 40:25single player game that James maybe just like shouts out some
- 40:28rules or something. Because the problem is, is like
- 40:31I am, it doesn't matter. Like there is just I it have to
- 40:36be on a rainy day when James is caught pneumonia and he broke a
- 40:43finger in his bone and then like.
- 40:46A finger in his bone. A bone in his finger and the
- 40:49lights are stabbed himself in the eye on accident with a stick
- 40:52and then maybe I have a shot at like being competitive in match
- 40:58play. We have done a tournament for
- 41:01Funsies 3D where I shoot and then I hand him my bow and he
- 41:07shoots my bow. He still won.
- 41:10Fun fact, we can aim a bow better women are typically
- 41:17better at shooting the bow than guys are.
- 41:21We just have an advantage because we're stronger and we
- 41:23can hold the bow steadier so we can hold the bow where we want
- 41:26it to be. Worden.
- 41:27Typically guys are don't like don't have as good of execution
- 41:31and they don't actually shoot No, but if you like most women,
- 41:35seems like it's easier for women to grasp the mechanics of
- 41:39archery faster I. Would.
- 41:41Agree. With that than men are, yeah.
- 41:43I've noticed that when I coach people or like help people out,
- 41:45I. Mean some people are helpless.
- 41:47Teach a woman but. Most people that like they start
- 41:50to pick it up really fast like women normally pick it up a lot
- 41:53faster. 100 easier to teach. Yeah.
- 41:54But so that's been that's been the there's just no like we
- 41:59attempt to make rules and and things and handicaps.
- 42:02I was just going to say to you a handicap.
- 42:03Some sort of odds that I'll have a chance.
- 42:06I still never win, but so just know it like that would be a
- 42:11super fun game. Blade would be like I already
- 42:13know the results of this game. So it's the reality is you could
- 42:15just stop playing if we got narrows and be done today.
- 42:19If we got you an accurate enough handicap.
- 42:22Yeah, I haven't found out what kind of like golf handicaps like
- 42:25I got to figure out what his to mine would be.
- 42:28I mean he's getting good enough now like his ex should be the
- 42:31same as your 9 or something right?
- 42:33To where? What you can do is you can you'd
- 42:36have to shoot a full round to get your handicap would you can
- 42:39shoot a full Vegas game. So the full 30 arrows and then
- 42:43you take your score and then divide that by your 30.
- 42:46It would give you like your error average arrow value and
- 42:49then you guys can shoot like say A5 end match, say your average
- 42:54arrow value was a seven. So the first, well, I'm just
- 42:57saying for in. In.
- 43:01Theory. I talked myself down so I can't
- 43:04say it's a possible logical option.
- 43:08Let's at least say not. I love it, I love it.
- 43:11In theory. In theory.
- 43:20In theory your your average is A7 or his is let's say a nine
- 43:27over the course of the the shooting.
- 43:30The first end you guys score you you just have to shoot your
- 43:34error, your average to score a 10.
- 43:36And then the next end you have to gain another point like you
- 43:39gain another ring. So his would go 10s would turn
- 43:41into 10s and then yours would be eights to 10s.
- 43:45So it's more of like an even and it forces you to like stay
- 43:49consistent. I would just prefer.
- 43:51This and then it pushes him harder because it pushes him to
- 43:54shoot XS after the second end every single time to match 10s
- 43:59where you get a little bit of a buffer yeah, to to carry your
- 44:0210s. So like we'll have to figure out
- 44:04how to to make a handicap like that or play a game where the
- 44:07score changes like their mind increases even if it's an 8,
- 44:11whereas his does not or you know, we've done that similarly
- 44:14at a three DI don't use that thing.
- 44:16I'm. Gonna I'm gonna hit the bathroom
- 44:17with you. Or you in a pot as you drinks.
- 44:19Can I have my? Water when you come back,
- 44:21please. Thank you.
- 44:23So we'll have to come up. We've done that at tax with a
- 44:26handicap for him and the rest of us don't have the handicap
- 44:30because or we have the handicap and he doesn't just because
- 44:33there's like you see, like what he can do on no, I just I just
- 44:40like to hit the plate so I can kill the animal.
- 44:42Yes, that's it. And I hope I don't choose to
- 44:45shoot far enough that he can turn the my Harrow gets there.
- 44:51But I do need to start shooting in because.
- 44:54You're like one level above the like suction cup.
- 44:57Lick them, stick them arrows. Right.
- 44:59Yeah, basically like the goal is to get to.
- 45:04I wanted to be I don't say wanted I want to be at 55 by the
- 45:10time we're going to turn it back to 50 and I can draw it at 50.
- 45:12We just it's at 48 and it was super easy to draw through these
- 45:16last couple hunts with the new strings on and but the goal is
- 45:20to be at 55 by Oklahoma attack, which is in April, which is
- 45:26literally 5 paths. That's easy.
- 45:28Too much OK for a man that's. Easy for a woman.
- 45:31If he were to just randomly turn your bow up and you have no clue
- 45:38he's doing it and he could just walk over and you could after
- 45:40say like a week of shooting, you guys get back and you practice.
- 45:43You start to start, start it now and you just start shooting
- 45:46arrows every day. Whether it's 15 or 20 or 50 or
- 45:48100, doesn't matter. He could turn your bow up like a
- 45:51half pound, like 1/2 turn or 1/4 turn or a full turn every three,
- 45:564-5 days, every week, week and a half, something like that, and
- 45:59you would never even notice it because you're strong enough if
- 46:03you can pull it 50 and it's easy.
- 46:06Yeah. Like 55?
- 46:08Like you'll still be able to do it, it's just not saying you
- 46:10need to get your muscles. Make it through.
- 46:12Accustomed to it. And be like, OK, I can shoot
- 46:14tomorrow. Like if I get to 55 and I only
- 46:17make it through 5 targets and he has to start.
- 46:19Ah, that's fine with me. Yeah, I just want you can hump
- 46:2155 by then, like, and be able to hump the bow back.
- 46:24Yep, that's all I want because I'm super tired of sitting at
- 46:30this stagnant 47 to 50 range going down because I haven't
- 46:33shot the bow in a couple months going back up and be like, OK,
- 46:36this is fine, but I can't turn it up anymore.
- 46:38And the only way I think to do that like I'm I'm doing the gym,
- 46:43I am exercising and it's like that does a lot Jack shit just
- 46:47shooting the bow every day. Like I don't care how many gym
- 46:51videos are out there. This will increase your
- 46:52poundage. It will help.
- 46:55It will help with some stamina but it's not the same because
- 46:59you're never going to engage the exact muscles as when you are
- 47:04drawing the exact bow. So it is to me it is just
- 47:08shooting. You, it doesn't have to be a
- 47:10commitment where it's like, oh, I have to go shoot.
- 47:13Like I said, a huge number of arrows.
- 47:15If you kept the target in the house and every night before you
- 47:19went to bed, you said I'm just going to shoot 15 arrows real
- 47:21quick. You got 5 arrows.
- 47:23You shoot three NS. Even if it's blank bill of five
- 47:26arrows, it will take you literally under 5 minutes.
- 47:30Like that's enough to help you consistently build your
- 47:32strength. If every bow hunter and every
- 47:34person did only that and did it every night of the year they
- 47:37were home, they would be significantly better, stronger,
- 47:40aim better, execute better. Like all the things.
- 47:41Oh. I know.
- 47:43It doesn't take much. So rather than shooting indoor
- 47:46targets, what you need to do is I forget the brand, but the
- 47:51they, they have a 2D pin up target that's foam.
- 47:55It's like the shape you can get them in all different animal
- 47:57shapes and sizes. And they have like a AS like the
- 47:59scoring rings on them, like a 3D target, but you can like pin
- 48:02them up to the target. It's a 2.
- 48:05It's a 2D foam, 3D target. And we actually get archery
- 48:09games that are super fun that you could shoot and you can play
- 48:11golf or baseball or battleship or beer pong if you want.
- 48:15You could drink water. That's right.
- 48:17That's right. So Speaking of poundage, right?
- 48:20OK, this is an interesting topic, yes.
- 48:22Before we continue, would you grab me a liquid death or any
- 48:26form of water out of the refrigerator because my cup's
- 48:29not empty? Can I have a liquid death?
- 48:32OK, Yes, I can. Yes, I can.
- 48:35Who named it Liquid Death? He was just grabbing them off
- 48:39the shelf because they're delicious.
- 48:40And I was like, what even is that?
- 48:43This one's called Dead Billionaire.
- 48:45It's a Gavi tea. You want this one.
- 48:47OK. And then there's.
- 48:48A marketing tactic because that one kind.
- 48:50Of what the one that I had was recently but someone had one and
- 48:55I tasted it and I. Was like.
- 48:58Oh F, that's good. I'm not a fan of like the
- 49:00seltzer ones so I don't drink the the sparkling water ones.
- 49:05What's wrong with you? I don't like spicy water.
- 49:09I don't like spicy Germans. Spicy.
- 49:12Mexicans. All right, here's my love.
- 49:16Sparkling. You probably.
- 49:17Drink that top Chico stuff too, don't you?
- 49:19You got to turn your. You got to hold your pinky out.
- 49:22Now, so I actually found before we get back to your stories real
- 49:25quick side note at Vons or any store that owns owned by the
- 49:32Vons companies, Albertson's, Safeway, I think those are the
- 49:37three. There's their brand of water and
- 49:41you know, have you ever heard? And my sister told me about
- 49:45this. I was like, First off, pretty.
- 49:47That's fucking heart attack in a cup.
- 49:49You need to put it down. So right now there's this trend
- 49:54of drinking soda and pouring Creamer into it.
- 49:59And it's called like creamy something I don't know.
- 50:03So I got like a new Italian cream soda.
- 50:06Yes, basically like that. And I was like first like the
- 50:10soda contains so much sugar, then your Creamer.
- 50:14I was like that sounds beat. But there are these waters that
- 50:22are like Vons brand, so they are a $0.99 a piece and it's a 30 oz
- 50:28jug so it's huge. And they make strawberry cream,
- 50:32orange cream and Peach cream, but it's just seltzered,
- 50:37sparkling Princess water, not spicy Mexican water.
- 50:43OK, he sees Princess water, but it doesn't like have that thick
- 50:47nasty texture, obviously because it's water of like putting
- 50:51coffee Creamer in your soda. That is disgusting.
- 50:56That's kind of like. I can't bring my.
- 50:57That's kind of like putting Pickles in there.
- 50:59Like people are doing that thing with the Sonic, the Sonic trend
- 51:01where they were going and getting like they're putting
- 51:03Pickles in there. Doctor Pepper.
- 51:06What is wrong with people like I don't know, but anyways, it's
- 51:10like they are the most delicious waters and James knows I he's
- 51:15like, you know, that's like not water, right?
- 51:17Like yes it is. You cannot convince me
- 51:20otherwise. I don't care if.
- 51:21It burns. It's not water.
- 51:24But they are so good. So I do love.
- 51:26Let me let me taste test this one up with and then you can go
- 51:29back to yourself. That one's tea, lemonade and
- 51:31agave. That is very good.
- 51:33It's like, what's that green tea brand?
- 51:36The one in the. Arizona.
- 51:37Arizona Teas. I don't think those are strong
- 51:39enough. Like when I took a drink I
- 51:41expected like a hit of flavor and I tasted like it was watered
- 51:46down. Very good.
- 51:48Yeah, it's like 3 drinks after you pop the top and it's gone.
- 51:52All right, are we? So I don't drink drinks very
- 51:54fast so. Are we ready for my hot topic?
- 51:56Hit. Yep.
- 51:57OK, so Hoyt just came out with a 90 LB bow that you can buy and a
- 52:07lot of consumers have been wanting this.
- 52:09I knew it would. I assume it's probably doing
- 52:11pretty well since it's the only brand that makes 1 to my
- 52:15knowledge. What do you think of a 90 LB
- 52:20bow? Do you think that's cool, not
- 52:21cool, irrelevant? Like what do you what do you
- 52:24think about just old? I mean, if, if you can do it,
- 52:28then why not? You know what I mean?
- 52:31Like I've shot an 80 LB hunting bow for the last probably 8 or 9
- 52:37years and all my buddies and my dad always give me a hard time.
- 52:41Like her dad gives me a hard time.
- 52:43Like why you shoot 80? Because I can like does not like
- 52:48the bows going to break or anything.
- 52:51It's not like you're going to hurt yourself.
- 52:53Like, yeah, if you're completely overbowed, you can hurt
- 52:56yourself. If you can't like physically
- 52:58pull the bow back, you're having to like alter how you're pulling
- 53:01the bow just to get the bow back, like things like that.
- 53:03But where I think potentially could run into problems are the
- 53:10guys on the upper end. It could have tuning issues
- 53:15because now like you're getting a dude at say 30 plus inch draw
- 53:20length with a 90 LB bow that's a lean to like a solid piece of
- 53:25carbon. Basically to be able to tune it
- 53:28like like there's the arrow like arrows are, you're going to be
- 53:32very, very limited on what type of arrow you can shoot because
- 53:36of the spine. It's going to need just.
- 53:38The amount of force. The stiffness you're going to
- 53:40need to put into an arrow. You got to shoot a piece of
- 53:43rebar out of that thing. Also too, one thing with the
- 53:47like the strings, the average string that is built like you're
- 53:51going to have to go up in your strand count, you're going to
- 53:54have to change your serving diameter.
- 53:55Like there's certain things that are going to need to change
- 53:57because the like everything is designed off of like a 70 LB
- 54:01like metric, you know what I mean?
- 54:03So I you're definitely average and I bet you most string
- 54:07companies like, and they quite knowing that they built that bow
- 54:10like I'm sure those cables are beefed up quite a bit so that
- 54:13way you don't have stretching and things like that.
- 54:15But if you get strings from anywhere else like, you're going
- 54:18to have to get extra strands put in those cables.
- 54:22Yeah, but overall, you think it's fine so long as someone is?
- 54:25Yeah. I mean, I don't I don't see any
- 54:27issue with it. Like is it unnecessary?
- 54:29Yes. I mean, my mom shoots 53 to 55
- 54:34lbs and she's killed, I don't know, 7 or 8 elk now with her
- 54:38bow and like this year she or lap this year or last year, one
- 54:42of the two, she shot her bowl like 65 yards and got a complete
- 54:45pass through. Yeah, with like a 345 green
- 54:48arrow at like 26 inch draw length, like arrow going speed
- 54:52of turtle. Yeah.
- 54:54Like, yeah, it's just like you shoot of the the correct broad
- 54:58head and the right like based off your poundage and draw
- 55:02length and arrow weight and everything like that.
- 55:03Proper shot placement in the right sign of bright kind of
- 55:05broad head for penetration. You can shoot anything you want.
- 55:09OK, I'm jumping in though. OK, it's easy for a guy to make
- 55:12that claim because when you draw the bow back, you know, no
- 55:16matter what happens, how the animal moves, whatever, if you
- 55:19hit the animal anywhere near the vitals, you're going to get
- 55:22penetration. That's why I said if you have
- 55:23the right arrow and broadhead combination and Shaw placement.
- 55:27Time. I have a 27 and three quarter
- 55:30inch hunting drawings and 60 lbs.
- 55:34And you've first hand witnessed me hit animals not in the
- 55:39shoulder blade like where I'd want to hit them and just by the
- 55:42animal was leaning, moving, whatever.
- 55:43It's like I hit a brick wall. I get no penetration and I have
- 55:47the right arrow build and the right broad heads and the right
- 55:50like there's well. You didn't have a broad head for
- 55:52that one. This is before beast, but that's
- 55:55not the point. The point is is that I I agree.
- 55:59I think the 90 LB bow is cool and it's different in America.
- 56:03This side note real fast. It's like white tail hunters and
- 56:05then everybody else. And so I definitely call myself
- 56:09the everybody else living on the western side of the world, elk,
- 56:12antelope, mule deer, you know, black tail, whatever.
- 56:15But then going to Africa and going to Australia and hunting
- 56:18Asiatic water Buffalo, Cape Buffalo, freaking giraffes and
- 56:21zebras are dents. And you know, all these things
- 56:23that in other countries I absolutely see and why that
- 56:28would be beneficial because even with the 90 LB bow, you could
- 56:31probably square a giraffe rib and maybe not go through.
- 56:33Like the animals are built so different than what we have here
- 56:36in the States that I feel like, you know, we always talk about
- 56:39it's like what's the magic number that would get you
- 56:40through an elk shoulder? Like if you square an elk in the
- 56:44leg bone of the shoulder or whatever, like you ain't getting
- 56:46through. Even at 70 lbs I've seen people
- 56:48not penetrate. 300 win. Meg Baby.
- 56:50Like. Baby, get there. 90 get there,
- 56:53like obviously, yes, what he said.
- 56:54If you've got good shot placement, good, you know, don't
- 56:57hit that kind of stuff, but shit happens.
- 57:00What if you do? Yeah.
- 57:01It happens. So if as a woman, if I just went
- 57:04I could pull 70 lbs tomorrow, do you think I'm going to go?
- 57:07Well, I was fine at 55 and 60. Why shoot 70?
- 57:09Fuck no. No, you're going to.
- 57:12Shoot. 70 Oh fuckers. Yeah, so I think the ones who
- 57:15complain about it are just jealous they can't pull it,
- 57:17because if I could, I would. And, and, and the Tate's point,
- 57:20my buddy, privileged bull hunter from Hawaii or just filming with
- 57:24him about 3 weeks ago, his Matthews lift has, he's got it
- 57:31to 85 lbs. And I shot it a few times.
- 57:34I was like feels fine, you know, like, I wouldn't be opposed to
- 57:38it. Like the virtue comes in 80 lbs
- 57:40and I wouldn't be opposed to going to you know, if I were to
- 57:43hunt a Cape Buffalo or something, you bet your ass I'd
- 57:45be shooting it at hot of 80 and as hot as it could go, you know,
- 57:49because that's what's available to us.
- 57:51So I thought, I think it's funny when people just see I all at 90
- 57:55lbs is so stupid. I'm like, I don't think it's
- 57:57stupid. Like your point, if if you're
- 57:59stroking it no problem and can shoot it like comfortably, then
- 58:03what's wrong with having more energy and more force behind the
- 58:06arrow as long as their setups. Good.
- 58:07The question though, there are not the question, but that is
- 58:10like the statement you made right there is it?
- 58:12It's as long as you're stroking it.
- 58:15But I think there are some people out there who, and I'm,
- 58:18I'm not saying a ton by any means, but so like, because it
- 58:22came out, it's like, all right, need.
- 58:24Yeah. And it's like, buddy, I hate to
- 58:27break it to you. Yeah, you don't.
- 58:28You don't that. Your shoulder doesn't need it.
- 58:31Your age doesn't need it. Your back doesn't need it.
- 58:34Well, there's a lot to be said like that.
- 58:36It's going to be hard on your shoulders like.
- 58:38Yeah, it's going to worry you. Like this, it is definitely
- 58:40going to worry you down. And now what you're also going
- 58:43to have to be able to handle is not just the weight of the draw
- 58:47of the poundage of the bow, but also being able to now shoot the
- 58:52holding weight that 90 lbs is going to bring with it as well.
- 58:55Because it's you're still running 80% let off or 85% let
- 58:59off it just because it. Didn't magically come with a
- 59:0195%. Exactly right.
- 59:03It's not like you're not going to be holding 11 lbs ten 1011
- 59:07lbs back there anymore. You're going to add.
- 59:09Be holding like a target. 16, probably 16 to 18 lbs depending
- 59:12on where you have that set, you know, and it's with that being
- 59:16like that's a bigger jump. Like you could go UPS.
- 59:18I would go turn your bow up 6 lbs on draw weight and you could
- 59:22shoot it no problem. And maybe bumps your holding
- 59:24weight by half a pound, quarter pound, whatever.
- 59:26If I were to bump your holding weight by 6 lbs, you can't even
- 59:29hold it on the back wall. You'd be bouncing off the back
- 59:31wall constantly. Yeah.
- 59:33So that's where the biggest that jump is going to get guys.
- 59:36How much can they practice with that bow?
- 59:38Depending on now I do think though like.
- 59:41Don't get me wrong, if we had the option, I would shoot a 9590
- 59:44LB bow if I could. Yeah, right.
- 59:46Like if if. I mean because I can, I can pull
- 59:49it. For his side, that's a.
- 59:51Freak draw, pounded strike like it's very weird.
- 59:53I don't. Well, the thing.
- 59:55That comes with you target officers well.
- 59:56Because you know. I've shot a bow my entire life.
- 59:58Same here. And that's the that's the thing.
- 1:00:00Like when I my buddy, he was surprised how I was just pulling
- 1:00:05his bow and it looked the same as mine and I'm like, oh, do you
- 1:00:07got to understand? Just like you said, I've shot a
- 1:00:08bow my whole life. So like the the whole draw
- 1:00:11process I was like I guarantee and I'm not.
- 1:00:13In it because I'm. Cocky like I can.
- 1:00:15Pull £100. It's your it's your form in your
- 1:00:17tech. Exactly.
- 1:00:18Yeah. I've helped guys in my parents
- 1:00:20Archer shop that are like that look like freaking the Hulk and
- 1:00:24the rock dude. Like just big, big dudes that
- 1:00:26come in and they instantly like, I want an 80 LB bow.
- 1:00:30They're 30, they're 64. They got a 31 inch draw length.
- 1:00:32You know what I mean? It's like they can't even get
- 1:00:34the string to bend. They're like something's wrong
- 1:00:36with the bow. It's locked up.
- 1:00:36I'm like, I don't, I mean, I don't think so.
- 1:00:38And I like grab the bow. I'm looking at it, you know, and
- 1:00:40it's like, I'm just not thinking anything.
- 1:00:42I just grab it with fingers and I'm just like, Nope, it's
- 1:00:45everything's good. And they go from about, they go
- 1:00:48from that big to about that big instantly.
- 1:00:51And it's like instant deflation. I'm like, it's like you just,
- 1:00:54you don't shoot a bow all the time.
- 1:00:56Yeah, it's different. And I, I could watch someone
- 1:00:58draw and notice right away if they have like grew up shooting
- 1:01:04a bow or they're just now learning because like you just
- 1:01:05tell by the way, the elbows coming back at what angle,
- 1:01:08whether or not the efficiency is maxed and the way we all draw is
- 1:01:13very similar. Like, you know what I'm saying?
- 1:01:15Just the overall form using leverage, leaning into it a bit,
- 1:01:18and it just makes it so smooth and uses both velocity and
- 1:01:22strength to get that string back.
- 1:01:24You know a. Little bit of pre lift.
- 1:01:25It's not that we're doing this in sky drawing, but you're pre
- 1:01:28lifting and then doing this self gravity.
- 1:01:30You're essentially sharing the load between your bow gravity,
- 1:01:33your front half and your back half.
- 1:01:34So that way you don't end up with the shoulder issues that a
- 1:01:37lot of the people have. So that helps overall.
- 1:01:39One thing I want to point out real quick on the hunting side,
- 1:01:42your lady listeners will understand this.
- 1:01:44I think you'll understand this. But no, yeah, no guy probably
- 1:01:50ever has to like think about all the things that we do when you
- 1:01:53draw back on an animal. Like I don't have nerves when
- 1:01:56I'm hunting like a typical can I make this shot or whatever.
- 1:02:01Like I have nerves of like is he at the perfect angle that I
- 1:02:04think I can get penetration or like I have?
- 1:02:07Fear that like the speed of my arrow and how far the art is
- 1:02:12like when you get there in time, like you know, with the wind.
- 1:02:16And if, if he takes a step or turns in the slightest, is he
- 1:02:20broadside enough that if he turns like it's not going to end
- 1:02:24up being in the shoulder because it's going to take my arrows 3
- 1:02:26seconds to get there 70 yards shot like I took so prime
- 1:02:30example like what you're explaining here.
- 1:02:32And in the moment now I'm like, I'm trying to force myself.
- 1:02:37I will not take a shot beyond this for now with my doe set up
- 1:02:42because granted I got the animal I harvested, I recovered it, it
- 1:02:48was a very lethal shot, but it is absolutely not where I put
- 1:02:53the arrow. So I see this animal.
- 1:02:58I one up, I hide behind a tree. I'm just, I mean, I was like,
- 1:03:02this can't be any more perfect. It is just broadside fingers,
- 1:03:05like watching a cow in a field. I was like this, this can't be
- 1:03:09any easier. I step out, I draw.
- 1:03:13He's kind of walking. So I'm like fuckers start
- 1:03:16walking. So I start walking with him.
- 1:03:19He stops, he puts his head to head down and I'm like, great.
- 1:03:23I let it go. I am 80 yards from the steer.
- 1:03:28The amount of time it takes my at this time it was at £50.50
- 1:03:32pound 25 inch. Like they don't get much shorter
- 1:03:36than mine before you got to join the kids vosectual store.
- 1:03:39You know like 25 inch straw length.
- 1:03:42The seconds you can count for my arrow to get there, it literally
- 1:03:46goes out of frame. It comes back into frame from
- 1:03:50its rainbow. By the time it did that, he had
- 1:03:53time to not only pick his head up, turn to look, turn to leave,
- 1:04:00shoot him straight through the ass cheek, out the ass cheek,
- 1:04:04back up into the body through the cavity.
- 1:04:08Lethal shot, very lethal. Not at all where I placed it
- 1:04:12when he was broadside eating. Calm as can be.
- 1:04:16But when you're shooting 50 lbs at a 25 inch straw like you have
- 1:04:21to think how long is my air going to take to get there?
- 1:04:24Is he calm enough so that he doesn't react too quickly like.
- 1:04:27There is no way in that. Sort of turn am I going to end
- 1:04:29up in the shoulder like and you can't you can't but you have to
- 1:04:33just say OK, well then my effective range even though I'm
- 1:04:36effective at a target at this range doesn't mean my effective
- 1:04:40range on an animal calm or not calm is that same number and
- 1:04:44there's just there's just more you have to think about when
- 1:04:46it's not 70 lbs we. Haunted deer.
- 1:04:48We're hunting in Texas this year.
- 1:04:50First of this ever happened to me and I'm at 18 yards.
- 1:04:54I'm in a tree stand. There's a doe and I know Texas
- 1:04:58deer duck, right? So I'm aiming like heart still
- 1:05:01on the deer, like that whole aim below the deer thing.
- 1:05:04I want to punch every person in the face that says that to me
- 1:05:06because I've had the 1 deer that I posted on camera from Canada
- 1:05:10and then one deer like years ago actually the one ducked me in
- 1:05:14New Zealand that wasn't even a deer but I missed it completely.
- 1:05:18But other than that I kill all the deer.
- 1:05:20And so when people say aim below their body I'm like I would have
- 1:05:23wounded more deer aiming in that weird shit.
- 1:05:26You do guessing for the duck then like if you aim heart and
- 1:05:29you make a good shot, you'll still kill it.
- 1:05:31If it ducks, you've got inches to play with and if it ducks
- 1:05:34enough that you then clip it through the back, miss,
- 1:05:37whatever, then it deserves to live if it moves that much.
- 1:05:39But I'm never going to aim off the deer but I'm aiming heart.
- 1:05:42I shoot this doe 18 yards. She ducks so fast that literally
- 1:05:46was like what even just happened and I spined her and she just
- 1:05:50went dropped and died in like 3 seconds which was wild because I
- 1:05:53I like fully thought oh man I'm going to have to shoot her
- 1:05:55again. Nope, she was dead.
- 1:05:56But I mean, she moved a significant amount and it was 18
- 1:06:00yards. Yeah, so and so it's not even a
- 1:06:03like people say a distance thing and I've seen you guys film
- 1:06:05enough. I'm curious if you agree with
- 1:06:07this. But I think they duck more the
- 1:06:09sound of the arrow than they do the sound of the bow.
- 1:06:12And so if you look, you only want 20 yards at whitetail, it's
- 1:06:15either you don't know the difference, right.
- 1:06:17But hunting Western, when we film hunt further shots, it's
- 1:06:20like sound of the bow. They might look, they might
- 1:06:22react like in some way like that, but usually it's not until
- 1:06:26the arrows back into frame and it's coming in that last little
- 1:06:29bit that they finally start to move.
- 1:06:32Well, I also think that and not just the sound of the arrow, but
- 1:06:35actually in my opinion even seeing it like.
- 1:06:38It's a fast. Moving arrow they have
- 1:06:41phenomenal eyesight. They have more than a, you know,
- 1:06:45our line of bit peripheral vision.
- 1:06:48So like all of a sudden think about a family when you see
- 1:06:51think about a human like you, you see that fly.
- 1:06:55You don't think they see the arrow coming like when it starts
- 1:06:58to drop into you know, I think all of it plays a factor.
- 1:07:02But I did the same thing even on a crazy one shows.
- 1:07:07I'm trying to get myself into food mechanicals just to say
- 1:07:11that I can but. I'm I need to have?
- 1:07:14That 55 LB hour, but I want to do to feel confident.
- 1:07:17That's another reason for it. But so last year I tried them.
- 1:07:21I was just having a piss for a year.
- 1:07:24That's nothing more than me. But we're sitting in a blind
- 1:07:29spring Turkey season and they, he's like, we've got them
- 1:07:35figured out. Like they're going to come in
- 1:07:36from this direction and they'll come right in front of the
- 1:07:40blind. We're sitting there, you hear
- 1:07:42right by this, like, all right, he knows his stuff.
- 1:07:46Sure as shit. They come right around the
- 1:07:47corner of the blind. And I mean, they stop 6 yards, 6
- 1:07:53freaking yards in front of me. I'm like, I'm going to have to
- 1:07:57like stand up on my seat to shoot this thing out the window.
- 1:08:01I shoot this Turkey at six. Freaky I I would thought my
- 1:08:07arrow would have passed through it, dug into the ground goner.
- 1:08:12I shot this Turkey, my arrow bounced off it.
- 1:08:18Not a joke. Birds are weird.
- 1:08:20Though. Birds are weird.
- 1:08:22Birds are weird. Yeah, I've never got a path.
- 1:08:23I've got, I think, one pastor on a Turkey.
- 1:08:25Yeah, well The thing is, so birds have feathers, especially
- 1:08:28if you hit them towards the the the root of the feather.
- 1:08:32That happens. Thick, you know.
- 1:08:34But it just goes to show that like.
- 1:08:36It didn't hurt the Turkey at all.
- 1:08:37Literally it like there was not any blood.
- 1:08:40It just hit them, bounced off I. Shot 1 and bounced straight off.
- 1:08:43Like straight, like a bounce bat on a target, that's what.
- 1:08:46Happened. I was like James did, I was like
- 1:08:51did that just it's just when you become off out, what he's like,
- 1:08:57I don't, I don't know, like he gets out, he picks it up and I
- 1:09:01just, I mean, I squared up the, you know, the, the top of his
- 1:09:04leg. Which is where you're supposed
- 1:09:06to hit him, right at the top of the drum step.
- 1:09:07But just enough that it was the thickest part of their hardest,
- 1:09:12the thickest feathers and the hardest feathers where they all
- 1:09:15come together. And so you don't just got, you
- 1:09:17know, a few thick ass feathers, you got all of his freaking
- 1:09:21Turkey wings coming all together in one and he picks up, he's
- 1:09:25like, I think he picked up a feather and he's like, no, you
- 1:09:27just straight up hit like the hardest part of the yeah, I was
- 1:09:31eat the worst looking. Birds have like armors.
- 1:09:34I don't take this freaking. I went back.
- 1:09:36I didn't even own any fixed points like non used anymore.
- 1:09:39I went to Ted and he pulled out his broadhead box.
- 1:09:42He's like this one's kind of sharp.
- 1:09:44This one's I went in with a mixed back Synette stands like
- 1:09:47take the broad heads off. I ain't using the mechanicals.
- 1:09:50I don't care what fix played from 1992's in my quimmer right
- 1:09:53now I'm not using it. I can.
- 1:09:56It was a thunderhead for sure. You know her head, Yeah.
- 1:09:59I had a wide variety in there that. 3.
- 1:10:03Three blade thunderhead that like folds back.
- 1:10:05Oh yeah, that was what I glanced.
- 1:10:07Or glanced. I bounced.
- 1:10:09Back with to answer, I mean, I think that usually when you when
- 1:10:13I've watched footage, pretty much any animal will react some
- 1:10:18like at least a flinch or something whether or not they
- 1:10:21move a lot. But usually I find that the
- 1:10:24reaction happens when the arrow's about 2/3 of the way
- 1:10:26there is all, and it doesn't matter if you're 15 yards or 70
- 1:10:32yards. It seems like that 2/3 of mark
- 1:10:34is where they'll react. But obviously closer is always
- 1:10:39better because 2/3 of the way of 70 is a lot more room left to
- 1:10:45travel than 2/3 of 25. So you're cutting the reaction
- 1:10:50time, definitely. But yeah, I don't know.
- 1:10:52I, I think the visual is part of it.
- 1:10:55I think it's like the veins are definitely part of it.
- 1:10:57I think it's like you hear something coming and then look
- 1:10:59and then they, I think they can see catch something.
- 1:11:03So I think we're running like a duller.
- 1:11:05I know a lot of people will kind of dust their arrows a little
- 1:11:07bit to make them not shine and then run in a vein that's pretty
- 1:11:11dull as well as low profile are all things that can help reduce
- 1:11:15the noise and the the the eye catch of the arrow possibly.
- 1:11:20Thing with what you just said though, with broad heads the
- 1:11:23beast would be fine but the average person low profile does
- 1:11:26not stabilize very well. Higher profile stabilizes more
- 1:11:30than than length. So it's like the Blazers.
- 1:11:33That's how people blaze all that are really short and tiny but
- 1:11:36tall. I mean that's how they've got
- 1:11:37away with like that style cut forever.
- 1:11:39But the vein material makes a massive difference on the sound.
- 1:11:44Like I don't know if you guys have ever tested this, but like
- 1:11:47shoot your bow with a couple different veins, you know,
- 1:11:50flutch it with three different kinds.
- 1:11:51And then one of you go stand down range and listen.
- 1:11:54And like we can hear the differences all the time.
- 1:11:57He'll shoot and I just close my eyes.
- 1:11:58I'm just sitting there listening to go by.
- 1:12:00And then like that one was double as loud as whatever the
- 1:12:03first one was. Like if we can hear the
- 1:12:04difference, you know the animals can hear the difference.
- 1:12:07Yeah, because their ears are crazy.
- 1:12:08Yeah, you know, But yeah, 90 lbs baby, I'm in, I'm in, Yeah.
- 1:12:15I use my feet and both hands. Like a crossbow.
- 1:12:19Your dad did that. I think I've seen your dad.
- 1:12:21Do that. My dad checked his timing.
- 1:12:22Yeah, it's a pro move. It's like Facebook famous or
- 1:12:25TikTok famous or. Yeah, I don't think it's, I
- 1:12:27don't think it's completely unreasonable.
- 1:12:31I think there's definitely like A and guys, it'll, it'll benefit
- 1:12:35certain certain people if all you do.
- 1:12:36I mean, there's a lot of people who get it that are like just
- 1:12:39buying it because it's something new.
- 1:12:41Like, oh, I got to have it. Like there's going to be impulse
- 1:12:43buys from it. For sure.
- 1:12:46I don't even know. I haven't looked at the bow at
- 1:12:48all other than I saw, you know, Bo Maher post it on social
- 1:12:51media. But like FPS of this thing?
- 1:12:56I mean they you still. Got to spine the shit out of
- 1:13:00your arrow and like what's it got away?
- 1:13:03So like and what's a minimum weight you got to run out of the
- 1:13:08arrow? You know the what the FPS of
- 1:13:12this quote UN quote 90 LB bow. I think Bomar said he was
- 1:13:16getting like, I want to say he was getting like almost 340 out
- 1:13:21of like a 600 Green Arrow or something.
- 1:13:24Like ridiculous. Yeah, it was 338, like 560.
- 1:13:28Here to here. So. 590 in my life.
- 1:13:32Because when you hear those numbers, if you like, you can
- 1:13:35pause and think like, Oh well, like that's that, you know, like
- 1:13:39Matthews, like there's some bows out there that get that speed or
- 1:13:42whatever now, but it's not a 600 grain arrow.
- 1:13:47Also think about your penetration with your 600 grain
- 1:13:50arrow. It'd.
- 1:13:52Add 100 grains if you're going to shoot it like the five grains
- 1:13:55per pound, how they do like the normal, like the ATA, you know,
- 1:14:0070 lbs, Thirty inches, 300 three, 150 grand arrow.
- 1:14:04So it'd be at the 90 LB, it'd be a 450 grand arrow.
- 1:14:07Yeah. So whatever that translate is
- 1:14:11rockets. Fuel.
- 1:14:12It's fast. It's fast.
- 1:14:14Yeah, it's fast. That would be faster than shit a
- 1:14:17450 grand arrow at 90 lbs at even my drawings 29 inches I
- 1:14:21think. Well I saw a shop one of my one
- 1:14:25of my shops did they got a bow and they did a thing on it was
- 1:14:28400. They shot a 450 grand arrow.
- 1:14:30It was like 352 three something like.
- 1:14:34Burner dude. OK, but what's?
- 1:14:37Insane at 29. Inches.
- 1:14:38Are they shooting? You'd have to shoot like a 150.
- 1:14:40Who makes that? I think Easton makes a dangerous
- 1:14:44game and Veno Victory makes a super like a like a 100 or 1:50
- 1:14:48as well. Like East, you'd be basically
- 1:14:50between an eastern or a like. Just getting arrows built for
- 1:14:53that I feel like. Victory.
- 1:14:55I don't know. I don't know what I know.
- 1:14:57Pull it. That's I.
- 1:14:58Think they still make their I think Easton still makes that
- 1:15:02they used. To.
- 1:15:03They used to make a dangerous game axis.
- 1:15:06Another thing too that's interesting about draw about.
- 1:15:10Like a 150. Draw poundage is that typically
- 1:15:15a lot of men are shooting not even anywhere near 100% of the
- 1:15:22draw weight they can handle. That's like what she says all
- 1:15:24the time. She's like.
- 1:15:25And women are pulling like right at 100.
- 1:15:27Percent. She's like, I'm not.
- 1:15:28She's like, I'm at my ceiling and you're like, you got four
- 1:15:31more floors. Yeah, exactly.
- 1:15:33And that's not something we can even compare because what's hard
- 1:15:38is I don't know that he's really found the poundage that it's
- 1:15:42like, I'll take my hunting bow and it's like I can get it back.
- 1:15:45I can get it back. We go another half turn and I
- 1:15:47literally can't pull it. And it's like, OK, back the
- 1:15:50half. And now I need to figure out how
- 1:15:52to make that work. And like, they're nowhere near
- 1:15:55that. And so even for tournaments, I
- 1:15:58turn it down. Like I could shoot closer to 60,
- 1:16:00but I shoot like 5354. So I'm not at my Max.
- 1:16:04But when we talk about why the men outshoot the women, that is
- 1:16:08a factor that no one talks about, no one considers.
- 1:16:11And I think it's fucking huge. Like on our bodies, the wear and
- 1:16:15tear, trying to aim and hold up a bow and do all these things
- 1:16:18over and over over. Like the guys would struggle I
- 1:16:21think if they were actually at that percentage of their Max.
- 1:16:25And just think about like when you say wear and tear, like
- 1:16:28we're talking about how like, you know, a man can get a 90 LB
- 1:16:32bow, but like, do they really need the 90 LB bow?
- 1:16:34Like and your body sustain that 90 LB bow for how many years can
- 1:16:39it sustain that 90 LB boat? But I'm doing that every single
- 1:16:44time I shoot my bow. You know, like he shoots a 70 LB
- 1:16:49bow and then goes and picks up an 85 LB bow and put that's 15
- 1:16:53lbs. I couldn't turn a half a pound
- 1:16:55when I'm maxed out. I could turn a half a pound more
- 1:16:58in my bow without going like this.
- 1:17:00Literally like 1 inch and the bow won't move.
- 1:17:04You know, So like you think, you talk about wear and tear and you
- 1:17:07think like, Oh my God, 9 lbs. Like what are you going to do to
- 1:17:10your shoulder? I'm like, bitch, I'm doing that
- 1:17:12every. Time.
- 1:17:13I know that's one of the like, I wish that more people had that
- 1:17:17this exact discussion because I think it is such a big
- 1:17:20difference and no one really talks about what's that one?
- 1:17:23This one is just sweet tea, so. It's mixing it up.
- 1:17:27This one's called Sweet Reaper. There you go.
- 1:17:29So no, no tea in the. Now unfortunately, how?
- 1:17:33Or no lemonade. Each one of those cans.
- 1:17:36How much water? Dinero's They're a dollar.
- 1:17:39That's not bad. Not.
- 1:17:40Bad at all? Oh, it's not bad, Yeah, I feel.
- 1:17:42Like those are like $3 at the gas station probably.
- 1:17:46Oh yeah. Walmart.
- 1:17:46So is this. Walmart.
- 1:17:48Tell tell us a little bit about the the mental programming your
- 1:17:52your new program that I have done a couple of the sessions,
- 1:17:56but I know you do courses with it and stuff you're going.
- 1:17:58To commit. I am.
- 1:18:00I am but. Going to make.
- 1:18:01Them tell me what it entails because because I know you do
- 1:18:04the you were saying like like a chat as well type thing like
- 1:18:09what is that? So basically it's a subscription
- 1:18:12and with the subscription you get in for a year and then you
- 1:18:15get your first audio recording. So it is subconscious mental
- 1:18:19reprogramming. And so essentially when you
- 1:18:23shoot a bow, you have a conscious mind and a
- 1:18:25subconscious mind. So your conscious mind is what
- 1:18:27you think. Like man, I'm thirsty.
- 1:18:28I really want to drink a water. Holy shit, the wind is blowing.
- 1:18:31Like those are conscious mind thoughts when you walk, when you
- 1:18:35breathe, when you drive a car, Like there's so many things that
- 1:18:39you do that all of a sudden just become subconscious.
- 1:18:41It's a pattern and it's repetition.
- 1:18:43That's the strongest part of her brain.
- 1:18:45Subconscious is like 85 to 90% of your brain.
- 1:18:47And so that's what most athletes, depending on the
- 1:18:50sport, are using, and archery is one of those sports.
- 1:18:52So I'm able to Netflix and dry. Yeah, exactly.
- 1:18:56I do that too and they shame me. But essentially a lot of
- 1:19:01people's problems are deeper than the conscious mind.
- 1:19:04And right now in archery, everyone's only talking
- 1:19:06conscious. Well, anyone who is went to like
- 1:19:10a sports psychologist or done much mental training has had
- 1:19:14experience with this stuff before.
- 1:19:15So essentially what my stuff is, is audio recordings.
- 1:19:19All the people have to do is just sit down, relax and listen.
- 1:19:21Or they can listen while they're practicing, while they're
- 1:19:23driving, whatever to the body only option.
- 1:19:25So it doesn't have a little sleepy intro with it, but it's
- 1:19:28essentially building up your subconscious minds like the
- 1:19:31building block issues that you have that are deep we fix.
- 1:19:35So a really easy one would be confidence and self-image.
- 1:19:39Like there's so many people out there who don't view themselves
- 1:19:42as good as successful. Like just you're saying like I
- 1:19:45know I'm good. People are so like down on
- 1:19:49themselves in today's world. Like there it's kind of sad, but
- 1:19:53like everyone's self in which is like not good, right?
- 1:19:57And so just building that up to where you truly believe in
- 1:20:00yourself, you truly think you're deserving and that you're
- 1:20:03capable and that you have the skill and the ability.
- 1:20:06Like that is something that you can't just teach and you can't
- 1:20:10just confidence, like will it into your conscious mind.
- 1:20:13But we can when we use the subconscious.
- 1:20:15So it's a completely different way of thinking to where you're
- 1:20:19not actually thinking. So like 1 cool thing.
- 1:20:21I mean, people have been telling me how much.
- 1:20:23Success they've had with it and they're like, I didn't think
- 1:20:26different and I didn't feel different, but I was just
- 1:20:28better. It's like, yeah, if you're
- 1:20:30thinking different, that's your conscious mind.
- 1:20:32Like I'm working deeper than that.
- 1:20:33So it is just easier and better because you are better.
- 1:20:37And so I stumbled upon this through like years of mental
- 1:20:40training and I kind of accidentally just, this
- 1:20:42happened, this happened and I finally got there, but I've been
- 1:20:45sitting on it for a few years. And I was like, you know what?
- 1:20:47Like this is something that I know will help people.
- 1:20:49Like this is really what they need.
- 1:20:51And archery's a sport that's so mental.
- 1:20:53Like how many people when no one's watching and the cameras
- 1:20:56aren't on, can stand in their backyard and just pound.
- 1:20:58You turn a camera on and do what we just did.
- 1:21:00And then seven start popping up or you put a deer in front of
- 1:21:03them. 7 is now. I know it's not.
- 1:21:05I know I love it. I love it.
- 1:21:07We already said take shot the wall, right?
- 1:21:08Like it? I shot I shot A0 for $10,000 in
- 1:21:13the car shoot off back in the day as well.
- 1:21:15So. Yeah, we've all done it.
- 1:21:17Yeah. And we'll do it.
- 1:21:17We'll do it again. We're human, right?
- 1:21:20But the idea is let's let that happen less instead of it happen
- 1:21:23more. So another thing where it works,
- 1:21:26and this is what I want you to commit to is score.
- 1:21:29So your subconscious mind has a comfort zone.
- 1:21:31It's like really happy staying in that comfort zone.
- 1:21:34And so a lot of times if you have an average score, you start
- 1:21:37really great and you're like, I'm going to crush it.
- 1:21:39And then you fall off at the end or you start really bad and
- 1:21:41you're like, this is going to be horrible.
- 1:21:42And then all of a sudden it's really great and you land around
- 1:21:45that average. The reason you have an average
- 1:21:47is because of your subconscious mind.
- 1:21:48So this isn't like a me thing, like go Google it.
- 1:21:50You can Fact Check me. This is just your brain and
- 1:21:52science. This isn't coming from me,
- 1:21:54right? People way smarter than me and
- 1:21:56figure this out. And so using that subconscious
- 1:21:59reprogramming the audio recordings, you can train your
- 1:22:02subconscious to have a new comfort zone that you haven't
- 1:22:05even actually achieved yet. So two of the recordings, I just
- 1:22:08launched my first two score based ones.
- 1:22:09So it's shoot a 300 or shoot A330X.
- 1:22:13So obviously two different skill levels of people.
- 1:22:15But with that, it's like you hadn't shot a 300 before
- 1:22:19yesterday, right? And so now that you've done it,
- 1:22:23you're going to tell yourself, I know I can do it.
- 1:22:25I know I can do this because I've done it, but it's like, OK,
- 1:22:29can you do it every time? Do you believe every time you
- 1:22:31shoot your bow, you're going to, you're going to shoot one?
- 1:22:32Do you expect to shoot 1? So all of that type wording and
- 1:22:36all those things are in there because there's times where it's
- 1:22:39not your conscious mind failing, It's not your shot execution
- 1:22:42failing. You are your aim.
- 1:22:43It's truly your subconscious mind getting in your way and
- 1:22:46holding you back. And it's harder to feel when
- 1:22:48that's happening and there's really nothing you can do.
- 1:22:51Like if you're if you're nervous and shaking and freaking the ass
- 1:22:54out, you can use conscious mind distraction tools to get through
- 1:22:57that moment and you can still win the day when the arrow do
- 1:23:00what you got to do if it's your conscious mind failing.
- 1:23:02But if your subconscious mind is failing you, there is no beating
- 1:23:06it. So that's something you have to
- 1:23:07train outside. That's what this program does.
- 1:23:10So it's going to be pretty cool because everyone's just now
- 1:23:13going to see kind of what you can do with the score based ones
- 1:23:16and it works faster and better than probably anything else.
- 1:23:18So that one's going to be pretty cool.
- 1:23:20But with the membership, they get the recordings all that's
- 1:23:22and there's a bunch of different recording so people could listen
- 1:23:24to different ones depending on what they want to work on.
- 1:23:27But then we also do some lives with the membership.
- 1:23:29So I'm doing about two a month right now.
- 1:23:31And so we go in and just have honest open discussions.
- 1:23:34It would honestly be like, this is how I envision everybody
- 1:23:37right on screen. But it's like, what do you have
- 1:23:40coming up next? Like what are your problems or
- 1:23:42what questions do you have? And like, what's cool about
- 1:23:45archery is I don't give a shit if I'm a pro world champion,
- 1:23:49this that the other doesn't matter.
- 1:23:51I won't always have the answer in the fix for everybody because
- 1:23:54we're different, our bodies are different, our minds are
- 1:23:56different. But when you get a pretty decent
- 1:23:58sized group of people together that you can bounce stuff off
- 1:24:01of, it's nice to be able to hear like, hey, I tried what they
- 1:24:04suggested. It didn't work, but this worked
- 1:24:06for me and maybe that's their fix.
- 1:24:08So I wanted to create a community where people could
- 1:24:11basically get help, get the information they need, have
- 1:24:15somewhere with reliable information because there is so
- 1:24:18much, there's a lot of good, but there's a lot of really bad info
- 1:24:21out there on the Internet, right?
- 1:24:22And so I just wanted to build something where people felt
- 1:24:24comfortable, felt safe, built friends within archery, and then
- 1:24:28had somewhere to go to basically get help.
- 1:24:31And so there's going to be more stuff coming with the membership
- 1:24:33as well. But for now, I just wanted to
- 1:24:34make sure we offered that extra. And then I'm recording those so
- 1:24:37people miss the lives like they're in their account.
- 1:24:39They can go back and watch them, still have access to those
- 1:24:41forever. They're going to get some behind
- 1:24:43the scenes social media content that I won't post to the masses
- 1:24:47because the masses are assholes. We've established that, right?
- 1:24:49So stuff I can't normally share, I'll share in there.
- 1:24:52But the main basis of it was I want to help people with the
- 1:24:55mental game. Like that's where this stemmed
- 1:24:57from. But it's like, OK, now how can I
- 1:24:59elevate that and help them more than just that?
- 1:25:02So that's kind of what what I've been working on and it's been
- 1:25:05fun. It grew way faster than I ever
- 1:25:07thought it would. So that's it's taken a lot more
- 1:25:10of my time than I expected, but it's good.
- 1:25:13I waited until I was ready. So now that I'm, I'm willing to
- 1:25:17like donate more time to that, dedicate more time.
- 1:25:19Isn't it like the most rewarding feeling to like launching
- 1:25:23something that you've worked on for a really long time and you
- 1:25:26never know when it's actually like going to get to the finish
- 1:25:29line and people are actually going to be able to use it and
- 1:25:31benefit it. And then when it's finally out
- 1:25:33there, it's like the coolest feeling.
- 1:25:35Yeah, And you're kind of nervous too, because I was like, OK, are
- 1:25:39people going to believe it? Are they going to trust it?
- 1:25:41Are they going to actually do it?
- 1:25:42And my worst fear wasn't that it didn't do well.
- 1:25:46It was that people would, like, buy it, listen once, and then it
- 1:25:50didn't work. And so I've been like super open
- 1:25:53and honest that like, it's the repetition that makes a
- 1:25:56difference. Like you listen once or twice,
- 1:25:58don't expect anything to change, OK, like.
- 1:26:01It's just like a gym. One time this week.
- 1:26:04Why can't I pull 16 pack? Why don't I have a six pack?
- 1:26:07I don't understand mental training is just as much about
- 1:26:11consistency as the physical training.
- 1:26:13But a lot of people don't know how to mental train properly.
- 1:26:16They don't understand the different parts of their mind or
- 1:26:18how it works. And so essentially, like I spent
- 1:26:21years researching this and paying large amounts of money to
- 1:26:25do like in person trainings with all sorts of people with
- 1:26:28different letters after their name and their descriptions and
- 1:26:31all that stuff, right? Who specialized in that stuff to
- 1:26:33like, understand and learn to put this product out now.
- 1:26:37But I just really want people to know it's literally as easy as
- 1:26:41sit down, put some headphones in and chill for 20 minutes or lay
- 1:26:46down like you're going to sleep and hit play.
- 1:26:48And even if you fall asleep, it's still working because it's
- 1:26:50your subconscious, not your conscious.
- 1:26:51But it's all about repetition. And so I didn't know how fast
- 1:26:56people were going to see results.
- 1:26:58And for myself, the fastest I can truly say, OK, it was an
- 1:27:02absolute measurable difference was like a month and, and I'd
- 1:27:06listen for a month to I used to change my recordings based off
- 1:27:08what I needed. And it was like, I was a whole
- 1:27:11different person one month later than the month before.
- 1:27:13And that's all I'd changed. It was like mind blowing to me.
- 1:27:15And that's when I knew like I should, I should make this a
- 1:27:17business. Like that's insane.
- 1:27:19What's interesting to me now is that so many Archers are pretty
- 1:27:24damn good, but they've done absolutely zero mental training,
- 1:27:27like no mental work. So they're starting at true
- 1:27:31ground level. And so I've had people listen
- 1:27:33for like a week and then break their PBS and go do stuff in
- 1:27:38tournaments they've never done and like break records.
- 1:27:40It's like blowing my mind how fast people are actually seeing
- 1:27:43results. And every time I'm like, that's
- 1:27:45insane, That's so cool. But like, keep listening because
- 1:27:49if that's what you're seeing in a week, like a month, two months
- 1:27:51from now, it'll blow your fucking mind because I wouldn't
- 1:27:54expect them to see results that quick.
- 1:27:56But they have a lot of weak links because they haven't done
- 1:28:01the mental training. Like when you start here, right?
- 1:28:03There's a lot of things we can work on.
- 1:28:05If you're starting here, it's going to take a little bit more
- 1:28:07time. Just like scoring, right?
- 1:28:09Like if you're shooting two 60s, it's easy to pick up five
- 1:28:12points. Well, with you are, there's only
- 1:28:14five points to pick up, like picking up that last one or two
- 1:28:17is really hard. The mental games very similar to
- 1:28:19that. And so it's been so interesting.
- 1:28:22But every single day, I haven't actually checked messages today
- 1:28:24because we've been busy, but every day I open my phone and I
- 1:28:27like read messages and it's like, I don't understand how or
- 1:28:30why, but like, Oh my God, thank you so much.
- 1:28:32And I just did this, like fill in the blank.
- 1:28:34And it's been really cool. Even at tournaments.
- 1:28:38We just shot the Rushmore Rumble not that long ago.
- 1:28:40And two boys that I have listening to the program, both
- 1:28:44shot 9 hundreds that weekend. Yeah, like one of their parents
- 1:28:47came up and was like, this changed his life.
- 1:28:50Like, this is incredible and like, I can't thank you enough.
- 1:28:53And it's just the coolest feeling.
- 1:28:55Like I love helping people and I love teaching.
- 1:28:57And so I probably like that stuff more now than, like,
- 1:29:00shooting. So I'm also have seminars, like
- 1:29:02on the website, shops can book whatever.
- 1:29:04I did a bunch of those this fall, and I love doing those.
- 1:29:06Like, to me, this side of it is where I would like to be able to
- 1:29:10spend more time now. Like, man, I've competed a long
- 1:29:13time. I still love that.
- 1:29:14But I'm enjoying doing some other stuff, mixing it up as
- 1:29:17well. But it's really rewarding to
- 1:29:21hear the success stories like that makes it worth it.
- 1:29:24Like I get a little stressed or I'm like, oh man, I got to get
- 1:29:27this edited and I'm up late, or I'm trying to go to a tournament
- 1:29:31and I'm up there until I go to the airport.
- 1:29:33Like trying to get these recorded so I can edit while I'm
- 1:29:35gone. And like, they're stressful
- 1:29:37moments. But then you read that stuff and
- 1:29:39you're like, that's cool shit. Like it was worth it.
- 1:29:42Definitely, Yeah, that's awesome.
- 1:29:45I loved it. Like I said, I've done a couple.
- 1:29:46I am going to do those 300. I'm going to listen to 30X1
- 1:29:51baby. That's that's where I'm going.
- 1:29:52You're probably only going to need the 301 for like such a
- 1:29:55short while and then you're going to be straight to the 30X
- 1:29:58your X count. Start with like a week of the
- 1:30:00300 with daily visits to performance for our shooting but
- 1:30:07manager says 300 first for at least a.
- 1:30:09Week. So we're going to do that, and
- 1:30:11then we're going to jump up and then.
- 1:30:13Yeah. So Tate, you've had a long time
- 1:30:15to think, buddy. Do you have?
- 1:30:17An answer I was just letting I've actually I got, I got a
- 1:30:20couple. I was just letting it come back
- 1:30:21naturally. All right.
- 1:30:22I didn't want to like blurt in in the middle.
- 1:30:25Yeah, yeah, I didn't. I didn't feel like his hands up
- 1:30:28now. Yeah, it's because.
- 1:30:29He wanted that. Yeah, there it is.
- 1:30:31Yes, Tate. OK.
- 1:30:34I think just with all the different archery organizations
- 1:30:41within, like there's NFA, there's IBO, there's ASA,
- 1:30:44there's USA World Archery, there's the people who like to
- 1:30:50go shoot their bows for tack, the recreationalists, like just
- 1:30:53people in general, right? Like kind of we've already kind
- 1:30:56of touched topic on this where it's like there's so much
- 1:30:59division with inside of Archer. We're all trying to do the same
- 1:31:03thing. And it's like what we said, like
- 1:31:05that's what's so cool about what you guys do is you bring archery
- 1:31:08to a new group of people that would have otherwise never seen
- 1:31:11or experienced archery. But yet everybody with inside of
- 1:31:15archery talks so much shit on everybody.
- 1:31:19That is like trying to like break the mold and do new stuff.
- 1:31:22And like, who cares if you want to go shoot your bow on the
- 1:31:25weekend? All you want to do is go shoot
- 1:31:26tax, Totally fine, right? You want to go shoot in the pro
- 1:31:29classes in Vegas or you want to go shoot 3D and you want to go
- 1:31:33shoot feeder or do what whatever, right?
- 1:31:35Like everybody's trying to do the same thing.
- 1:31:37And there's all these and it's partly the people that run the
- 1:31:40organization's faults too, because they all want their
- 1:31:44organization to be the biggest and best.
- 1:31:45And they're like unwilling to work and grow and like allow
- 1:31:49everything archery to grow is 1. They want their piece of like,
- 1:31:53archery to be the biggest. Yeah.
- 1:31:55And I think like, that's like kind of with hunting too.
- 1:31:57Like we're our own worst enemies, right?
- 1:32:00There's so many different regulations that are trying to
- 1:32:02get passed on a daily basis where they're trying to limit us
- 1:32:05more and take more things away from us.
- 1:32:08And then, yeah, we're the first people to go on and talk shit
- 1:32:12about other people that do it differently than the way we do
- 1:32:15it, right? So it's like, rather than just
- 1:32:17supporting everybody that does the same thing we do, we're all
- 1:32:21like at each other's throats because if someone's doing
- 1:32:25something different, then someone else would perceive it
- 1:32:29the correct way to do it. I think a good quote is that a
- 1:32:33rising tide raises all ships. I think if you think of stuff
- 1:32:37that way that's deep, then it's like, well, I do because like in
- 1:32:42YouTube, it happens all the time, right?
- 1:32:44People want to be the biggest channel and they think if that
- 1:32:46guy grows, I can't grow. That's actually so stupid.
- 1:32:50It's the opposite. The more bigger channels or
- 1:32:54creators there are in archery, all that does is help archery
- 1:32:59and all the creators get bigger because more people are
- 1:33:02interested in it. It's the exact same thing.
- 1:33:05If ASA does great, it's probably going to help IBO get better
- 1:33:09too. If they are bigger too, all of
- 1:33:12them grow. That's only good.
- 1:33:14It's going to raise the whole ship.
- 1:33:16And you know, tack for a long time people, so many people got
- 1:33:19made fun of for going. All those people were flat
- 1:33:21bills, sick gear and blah blah blah.
- 1:33:23It's like a lot. Of tournaments and everyone
- 1:33:25would talk shit. And it's like, well guess what?
- 1:33:27They have 6000 people showing up on a weekend to Pennsylvania,
- 1:33:31all by an archery. ASA shoot or whatever.
- 1:33:34They're not bringing 6000, you know what I'm saying?
- 1:33:36Like, and that's there's twelve of them a year, right?
- 1:33:39That's great for the sport. So I think to your point, the
- 1:33:41more people can work together, whether it's in hunting or
- 1:33:44archery as a whole, the more the more it grows.
- 1:33:47That just helps everybody. It helps the businesses, it
- 1:33:50helps the the professionals like it helps the athletes, it helps
- 1:33:53everybody, the creators. You know what I'm?
- 1:33:55Saying helps the companies, it helps your archery shops.
- 1:33:58Like everything that we can do to try to help grow archery as a
- 1:34:01whole. Everybody with inside of archery
- 1:34:03is going to benefit from it. Exactly.
- 1:34:05So you said he had a couple, What's what's the other one?
- 1:34:07I would say the next one is the FOC.
- 1:34:12OK, I love this one. All right, hit me with it, dude.
- 1:34:16It's the dumbest thing ever really.
- 1:34:17Like why I I just, I don't understand why people get so
- 1:34:22caught up in it or people, it seems like some people are more
- 1:34:25caught up in how they're going to build their damn arrow for
- 1:34:29the possibility of a bad shot. And they're like, well, I got to
- 1:34:33have it built for this. In case it's like you're already
- 1:34:35thinking of doing that. Like you're already putting that
- 1:34:38you're already manifesting. You're going to shoot them bad,
- 1:34:41right? Like you don't need 1000 Green
- 1:34:44Arrow or you're doing hunting T rexes in the Smithsonian like.
- 1:34:48Fuck. Yeah, like where you're hunting
- 1:34:51normal 4 legged critters here they don't have armor plating
- 1:34:55like. Other than turkeys.
- 1:34:56Other than turkeys, in Brianna's case, they bounce.
- 1:35:00That's. Exactly right, though it because
- 1:35:02we just talked about this yesterday with with Greg and
- 1:35:07and, you know, creating your guys's level and expertise of
- 1:35:11like knowledge and arrow building is on a whole nother
- 1:35:15level, but they're they're little things that you don't
- 1:35:18know until you know. And then once you know, it's
- 1:35:21like, oh, it's a, it's. Like the aha moment?
- 1:35:25But to dig into like I watch what just watching Greg do, it
- 1:35:29was like he's like weighing there, weighing A vein, throwing
- 1:35:32to the side and be like, OK, Yep, Yep, Yep.
- 1:35:34He goes 2 oz different. Don't give a shit.
- 1:35:37That's fine. And I'm like, you see these you
- 1:35:40I watch because I got into this whole like I want to start
- 1:35:42experimenting with building my own arrows and watching videos.
- 1:35:44What not. I'm sitting there like 100 veins
- 1:35:47deep in like the variances of, you know, a half a grain to 1
- 1:35:52grain and separating them to like make sure you know, these
- 1:35:56are all the 4 1/2 grains. These are the five grains.
- 1:35:59This is the 6th grain. That's whoa, that's way out
- 1:36:01compared to this 4 1/2. And it's like, it's a fucking
- 1:36:05grain. Like I could pick up a piece of
- 1:36:08rice and it weighs more and, you know, a variation weight than
- 1:36:12those two. They can't.
- 1:36:13Even see that out of a hooter shooter at distance.
- 1:36:15Yep. And so I sat there and I, I was
- 1:36:19like, all right, let me get a fucking piece of paper out and
- 1:36:21start writing this down with only two different types of
- 1:36:24arrows I built. And I didn't even build all the
- 1:36:27different variations with the the pieces and parts that I had.
- 1:36:30I had over 12 variations of ways that I could build these fucking
- 1:36:35arrows all within a wellly respectable FOC.
- 1:36:42And I was like how the fuck do you know which one to pick?
- 1:36:46I was like I I call my sisters like I don't know what to do
- 1:36:50now. Now I'm literally stuck in
- 1:36:51paralysis by analysis because I have now written down 12
- 1:36:55different ways I can build 2 fucking arrows.
- 1:36:59All of them by maps. You know, theory say they should
- 1:37:04shoot just fine. So how am I supposed to know
- 1:37:06which one to pick? Am I supposed to build 3 arrows
- 1:37:09of each variation and have over 100 different arrows to go test
- 1:37:13to decide which one properly flew the best?
- 1:37:18All because I decided to figure out FOC.
- 1:37:20I was like, this was the IT was all based around the FOC.
- 1:37:24All of it was based around the percentage of FOC.
- 1:37:27And with the weight out the front verse adding and it was
- 1:37:30like the weight of the insert verse adding weights on the, the
- 1:37:34back weights. And you know, I'm like, or the
- 1:37:37the insert just weighs the same as me sitting there screwing in
- 1:37:40back weights. Like I was like, this is nuts.
- 1:37:44Here's how simple I think it. Should be you pick your arrow
- 1:37:48based off of what One, your spine is obviously that you
- 1:37:51need, but two, like what are you going to be doing, honey?
- 1:37:53Anything normal in North America?
- 1:37:55Pick whatever arrow the heck you want to pick.
- 1:37:57It doesn't matter. We're not talking Cape Buffalo,
- 1:37:59we're not talking draft. We're talking normal stuff,
- 1:38:01right? Put whatever knocking it you
- 1:38:03want, put whatever veins on it you think you're going to
- 1:38:05stabilize. I shoot 100 grain broadhead for
- 1:38:07absolutely everything because it's really easy if something
- 1:38:09goes wrong to get 100 grain broadheads.
- 1:38:11The only variance that I sometimes have decisions on,
- 1:38:15sometimes I don't depend on the arrow I'm shooting is the insert
- 1:38:18outsert half out, whatever that piece is going to be like
- 1:38:22Easton, they made a 55 grain and a 75 grain that I could pick
- 1:38:25between. So I had my arrow, I had my
- 1:38:27veins, I had my knock. I knew I was shooting 100 grain
- 1:38:29broadhead and I went OK, if I pick the 55 grains, my arrows
- 1:38:33going to weigh 370 ish. If I pick the 75 grains, it's
- 1:38:39going to weigh 390. I want to be more like 390.
- 1:38:43I'm picking that one done. I didn't pick it off FOC.
- 1:38:46I picked it off total air weight.
- 1:38:47I had two options. I picked the one that made the
- 1:38:49most sense. So I never math that out.
- 1:38:51I never have. I never will.
- 1:38:53Like it should be. It should be that easy.
- 1:38:57Like, yeah, that is sure. I have to have.
- 1:38:59A country having done that whole experience, I've shot like.
- 1:39:02Everywhere from. Don't even say a percent because
- 1:39:06that means you would have calculated it and I know you
- 1:39:08didn't. I'm not saying a percent.
- 1:39:10I've shot anywhere from a 75 grand insert to a standard
- 1:39:13insert. That's like 11 grains, right?
- 1:39:17And the main animal that I've haunted for my whole life, you
- 1:39:23know, is always been elk because that's like I grew up hunting
- 1:39:25elk and it's like a disease. Once you start you can't quit,
- 1:39:30you know, and I've killed more of my bulls with standard axis
- 1:39:38with a stand like a standard insert.
- 1:39:41My arrow was cut to 26 1/2 inches.
- 1:39:43I ran 3 blazer veins back in the day, a standard knock and they
- 1:39:47weigh 396 grains and I've killed more elk with a sub 400 grain
- 1:39:53arrow than I have ever since. I've been shooting like a 430
- 1:39:58ish 440 ish grain arrow that I shoot now because I shoot a 5055
- 1:40:03to 60 grain insert up front with 100 grain broadhead now.
- 1:40:06And I've had I've killed more of them with a lighter and I've
- 1:40:09actually had more pastors with a lighter arrow than I have the
- 1:40:13heavier arrows. So it's like there, there's a
- 1:40:16point like I think FOC is like definitely beneficial if you're
- 1:40:22a recurve shooter or like a tradition, like a trad guy,
- 1:40:26because the more what you have up front, the more it will help
- 1:40:29negate your back, your back end release.
- 1:40:31Like if you release bad, you have a bad finger release.
- 1:40:34It helps pull the back end around the front of the arrow
- 1:40:36straighter. It's harder to get the front end
- 1:40:37off, but you get a like a compound bow.
- 1:40:40Like you're shooting a mechanical release.
- 1:40:43Everything is off with let off. Like it's easier to hold
- 1:40:45everything like that. Your shots are way more
- 1:40:46consistent. The bow is going to do what it's
- 1:40:49going to do. The arrow is going to do what
- 1:40:50it's going to do. Like people dive way and they're
- 1:40:56trying to build these thousand green arrows to go shoot elk and
- 1:41:00it's like I got to have a 650 grand arrow to go shoot out.
- 1:41:03Like, yeah, I was talking to a guy the other night on the phone
- 1:41:06and a guy I know and he called me.
- 1:41:08He's like, hey, my buddy's getting ready to go on a grizzly
- 1:41:11bear hunt. And I'm like, OK, that's cool.
- 1:41:14He's like, what what what should he do for arrows?
- 1:41:15I'm like arrows, just what's he shoot normally?
- 1:41:18Like shoot your normal arrow, right?
- 1:41:20Like they're they're soft. They're not like they're a big
- 1:41:25dance. Like it's a bear.
- 1:41:27It's just a bigger version of a BlackBerry.
- 1:41:29I mean, they're just a fluffy. They're pretty soft.
- 1:41:31You know what I mean? It's you'll be fine.
- 1:41:33Shoot, if you want to be do anything different, just shoot a
- 1:41:35small little bit smaller broadhead.
- 1:41:36Maybe you'll get better penetration from that, but I
- 1:41:38wouldn't go anything crazy. He's like, I need to build like
- 1:41:40a 750 grand arrow. I'm like you.
- 1:41:42Got to climb on its back. No, you don't like.
- 1:41:45Yeah, it's. Not to mention with the arrow
- 1:41:48thing, you know, like we talked about earlier, most of the time
- 1:41:52a bad shot happens in archery, it's because either the shooter
- 1:41:55made a bad shot or the animal reacted before the arrow got
- 1:41:58there. And the best way to shorten the
- 1:42:01period of the arrow getting to it is to have it be faster.
- 1:42:04And a lighter arrow is going to get there faster, which means
- 1:42:07the animals are going to react less, which means there's a
- 1:42:09higher probability that you don't hit it poorly.
- 1:42:12So I think there's a lot of I think.
- 1:42:15There's something to be said about like I like my arrow
- 1:42:18weight and bow speed. I have like 2 numbers that are
- 1:42:22like important to me. Which are.
- 1:42:25I like to be somewhere around 300 foot a second, like
- 1:42:28somewhere 295 to 300 is like my, my, my foot per second, right?
- 1:42:32That's like my range. And then my arrow weight range
- 1:42:35is anywhere from like 4:20 to 4:40.
- 1:42:40Like somewhere in those two numbers spreads.
- 1:42:43Like that's where my arrow build and poundage and like speed is
- 1:42:46going to lie on every single hunt and bow.
- 1:42:48Just to be honest though, if you start to math everything out,
- 1:42:51you take any normal compound arrow from any of the major
- 1:42:55companies, throw 100 gram broadhead with whatever outsert
- 1:42:58they have made for that arrow. It's fine.
- 1:43:01Truly it's fine. And so all that extra thought
- 1:43:05and all these other options and stuff, it'd be different if the
- 1:43:08arrows weighed a ton different or they're designed, you know
- 1:43:11whatever. But realistically, you buy
- 1:43:12anything normal in today's market, you use the products
- 1:43:15they designed for it. Screw 100 grain to 125 grain.
- 1:43:18If you really care that much brought into the front of it,
- 1:43:21it's good you're. Good to go.
- 1:43:22Yeah, there's not much more that needs to go into it.
- 1:43:24Like the two, the two important parts, which we've we've covered
- 1:43:29in this this podcast and James's last two days with Greg is shoot
- 1:43:36your bone off that you are good enough and tune your bow well
- 1:43:40enough that in, you know, the instance that you do make a
- 1:43:44little flinch, it's as forgiving as it can and accurate as it can
- 1:43:48possibly be. If you can do those two things.
- 1:43:52The market is so good now that it doesn't.
- 1:43:55I mean, they send it to you with inserts.
- 1:43:57You know, they said like it comes with a knock.
- 1:44:01They're not going to send you something that's not meant to be
- 1:44:03fit on the bow. They're on the arrow.
- 1:44:05So just put what's given together, but do the other two
- 1:44:10things. You know, like we saw that if
- 1:44:12you go back and watch the videos when they come out of just the
- 1:44:15tuning. Now, granted we did change his
- 1:44:17fletches, but in that, you know, that can be important to a lot
- 1:44:20of people, whether it's because of the sound or or do you want
- 1:44:22to stabilize that arrow faster or whatever.
- 1:44:25But you go and do the stuff that he did in those videos, which
- 1:44:31had nothing to do with like you need a better quality this and
- 1:44:34that. And it came with these
- 1:44:36outskirts, but we're going to change them to this special
- 1:44:39third party brand had nothing to do with any of that.
- 1:44:45It was all about tuning the bow and making sure it was forgiving
- 1:44:50and accurate. And that paired with him
- 1:44:54shooting the bow more got him a 300, you know, like.
- 1:45:00So is is, is that, is that your two or you got anything else?
- 1:45:09We'll stick with two. We'll stick with two.
- 1:45:11Mine did you hear mine earlier? Mine was basically like bow
- 1:45:14hunter shit talking each other on the Internet and I just said
- 1:45:18I said in target archery you don't see much of that because
- 1:45:21one all the people at the top respect the people at the top.
- 1:45:24We know how hard it is to get there, right?
- 1:45:26But if the other people want to shit talk us, it's like we'll
- 1:45:29show up, shoot pro and let's see how you do.
- 1:45:31They can't really talk shit because there's actually a
- 1:45:32measure of metric on who's better hunting.
- 1:45:35That's not the case. And so I said into my branch,
- 1:45:37over into hunting stuff, I post a hunting video and you could be
- 1:45:40100% perfect. You could shoot at 20 yards or
- 1:45:4370 yards. It doesn't matter what you do.
- 1:45:45There's going to be some group of people out there who are
- 1:45:47criticizing you for something that you did.
- 1:45:48And I just said it's fucking stupid that no matter what you
- 1:45:51do, someone's going to be on there saying I could have shot
- 1:45:54it better, I could have got closer, I could have taken that
- 1:45:56like whatever it is, I would have waited for a different
- 1:45:58angle. Oh wow, this wouldn't happen to
- 1:46:00me. But I'm like, I wish the bow
- 1:46:02hunters would quit being so jealous and just be happy when
- 1:46:05someone else has success or like supportive if they don't have
- 1:46:07success. Like it doesn't hurt them in any
- 1:46:09way. And I've never seen a group of
- 1:46:11people like treat each other so poorly than bow hunters.
- 1:46:17It's just fucked and it makes me so mad.
- 1:46:19Like I did a whole rant like a 10 minute rant video after
- 1:46:24Canada and I honestly just got so sick of looking at the most
- 1:46:27stupid comments from stupid people I just quit looking back
- 1:46:31and I just said here's my rant video to call them out and then
- 1:46:34I don't have to look back again and I can move on and be done.
- 1:46:36Close the chapter. I do think.
- 1:46:38Moving on. One thing that would be very
- 1:46:40nice and I know like it's never going to happen, but I wish
- 1:46:45every single person putting out hunting like bow hunting
- 1:46:48content, regardless of how far the arrow is, how far the shot
- 1:46:52is, I could care less. I don't.
- 1:46:54Just please quit telling people how far you shoot animals at.
- 1:46:57I agree, Brianna's very bad at that.
- 1:46:58I absolutely. Hate that because your skill
- 1:47:03level, my skill level, someone like Levi Morgan, all or Cam or
- 1:47:08anybody, Josh Bomar, anything like that, right?
- 1:47:11Levi and Josh. Because I hate it.
- 1:47:13Because there's so many people go out there and they watch that
- 1:47:16video and they're like, Oh well, he shot it at 125 yards.
- 1:47:19I can do it the same thing. And it's like, no, you can't.
- 1:47:21Like, yeah, no, like, yeah, you can go shooting.
- 1:47:24You can go shoot a paper target at 120 yards, but you've killed
- 1:47:262 animals in your life. One of them was a Turkey and the
- 1:47:29other one is a doe at 15 yards out of a tree stand.
- 1:47:32Turkey. So it's like, OK, now you get
- 1:47:35out into a different hunting situation and it's like just
- 1:47:38like, I guess my point is like the respect to the animal, like
- 1:47:41you're hunting as well. Because you watch someone do it
- 1:47:45on TV does not mean that you have the skills or the
- 1:47:48capability to go out and shoot the same animal at 120 yards.
- 1:47:52You're probably just going to end up wounding it.
- 1:47:55Unfortunately, that's the stupidity of the human.
- 1:47:57Role I know 100% I know but humans shouldn't be that stupid
- 1:48:00but we are. And the general population
- 1:48:03watching stuff on YouTube, it's like God just I don't care.
- 1:48:07I can tell the animal was 9500 yards away.
- 1:48:10Just don't tell people how far. Do not tell the Internet how far
- 1:48:14people you are I. Like I agree just how far the
- 1:48:17the level of shooters is so much different.
- 1:48:19And you know, we talked about Jim Burnworth or earlier from
- 1:48:23Western Extreme and I remember he did a video about sort of
- 1:48:27that, like how do you find your effective range and describing
- 1:48:31how for everybody, it's completely different for Levi
- 1:48:35Morgan and good weather conditions on certain terrain on
- 1:48:39a certain type of animal. It might be 125, but I'm first,
- 1:48:43I don't. Stretched it out there and I've
- 1:48:44shot some animals at a decent distance but like.
- 1:48:49You're also an shooter, a very good shooter, this guy's.
- 1:48:52Pounding those said animals. I'm definitely not writing in my
- 1:48:55post how far I shot Yeah, exactly.
- 1:48:58So I think that I agree with you that I think that's.
- 1:49:00Good. I disagree and here's why.
- 1:49:02I hate that people have to like dumb down their skill level
- 1:49:07because someone else might think they can do it.
- 1:49:09So like as an example, in rifle hunting, their shows for like
- 1:49:13long range, blah, blah, blah. And they're they're telling how
- 1:49:16far they're shooting animals at 1000 yards.
- 1:49:18They're doing all the calculations and all the
- 1:49:20whatever. And that'd be like saying those
- 1:49:22shows shouldn't exist because the average Deer Hunter is going
- 1:49:24to go think they can do it. It's like if they do, here's the
- 1:49:28ethics thing is where this comes into play.
- 1:49:30And I'm like whether Levi Morgan or Paige Pierce or Tate, Morgan
- 1:49:34says. I shot an animal at 100 yards.
- 1:49:37If whoever that person is is going to go take a shot at 100
- 1:49:40yards, and they shouldn't be, that's an ethical issue to them.
- 1:49:45That's not my fault. That's not Levi's fault.
- 1:49:48And whether they watched us do it or not, if they're an asshole
- 1:49:51like that, they're probably going to do it either way.
- 1:49:55So it's like no one's watching them.
- 1:49:56The only accountability they have is to themselves and to
- 1:49:59that animal. And so it's their ethics that
- 1:50:01matter. But there's no other sport.
- 1:50:03Like, do you watch race cars? And they're like, they don't lie
- 1:50:06and say they're going on the track at 45 miles an hour
- 1:50:09because I don't go watch fucking NASCAR and I got this.
- 1:50:13Me just take my little traverse and hit two.
- 1:50:15Undo tomorrow. The traverse is crazy.
- 1:50:19I don't watch people on dirt bikes and just think, Oh, let me
- 1:50:22just go go off a jump or let me just so I think when you when he
- 1:50:26says that we fight about this all not actual fight, but debate
- 1:50:29fight about it all the time, because I'm very much like fuck
- 1:50:33that. If you have the skill and the
- 1:50:34ability, go for it, share it. Who cares?
- 1:50:37There's no other sport that the elitist like the the best of the
- 1:50:41best have to lie about their ability because the lesser
- 1:50:45people from a skill point of that think that they just are
- 1:50:49going to be good enough. It's kind of any other sport.
- 1:50:52It's kind of like the mentality of saying that all because your
- 1:50:54kids playing Call of Duty, they're going to go shoot a
- 1:50:57bunch of people. It's sort of the same thing.
- 1:51:00It's just like. Shooter.
- 1:51:01The kids going to be a shooter for whatever reason not.
