Sermon for the 14th Sunday after Trinity | Luke 17:11–19
There are many voices telling us who we are, what is true, and what we should desire. Our own hearts and desires speak to us too. But God does not tell us to look within ourselves to discover the truth. He speaks His Word from outside of us: “Hear, my son, and accept my words.” In Proverbs 4, Galatians 5, and the healing of the ten lepers in Luke 17, we see what it means to live by faith: to hear the Word of Christ, trust His mercy even when we cannot see what He is doing, and return again to the feet of Jesus, where sinners receive life and salvation.
