- 0:04Speaker 1: All right, all right, Yo yoya going stool alive from Philly.
- 0:09Speaker 1: It's the Folly and Tony Foolsco. It's always Bolly Fools
- 0:15Speaker 1: go here with Tony Foolsco and Tony. You know, people
- 0:19Speaker 1: think that because there was no show these past couple
- 0:21Speaker 1: of weeks, that we were taking a break. Nope, no
- 0:25Speaker 1: sports news never slows down, people. We were busy talking
- 0:29Speaker 1: to our sources getting the big scoops to break right
- 0:32Speaker 1: here on the show where with Tony. Yep, we were
- 0:35Speaker 1: hitting all the message boards all over camp. You serve,
- 0:40Speaker 1: we were everywhere getting all the scoops and all the
- 0:44Speaker 1: stories weeks. Yeah, we got sources up the yin Yang
- 0:48Speaker 1: as you know. And you know that's a great segue.
- 0:51Speaker 1: As they say in the business to our guests today,
- 0:54Speaker 1: he's this guy who you know, some people consider a
- 0:57Speaker 1: major person in these sports media journalism field, if you
- 1:00Speaker 1: couldn't even imagine that such a thing exists anyway. He's
- 1:04Speaker 1: a writer for the Sports business journal John or Rand,
- 1:07Speaker 1: who has made a name for himself by breaking news stories.
- 1:11Speaker 1: But you know he doesn't wait, do your people hear
- 1:15Speaker 1: the stories that we're gonna break on the show. You know,
- 1:19Speaker 1: in fact, or end. He's probably sitting right now waiting
- 1:21Speaker 1: for his guest appearance, thinking he's gonna break big news.
- 1:24Speaker 1: We're gonna beat him to the punch, aren't we, don't it. Yeah,
- 1:27Speaker 1: we're gonna break more news in the next five minutes
- 1:30Speaker 1: than he has in his whole career. Yeah. In fact,
- 1:33Speaker 1: let's not even delayed, Tony, because you know, we've kept
- 1:36Speaker 1: our audience waiting. They want to know what this is.
- 1:39Speaker 1: So here we go a segment on the show we
- 1:41Speaker 1: haven't done in a long time, Tony. It's called breaking
- 1:45Speaker 1: news news all right. By now, you've probably heard NBC
- 1:51Speaker 1: has signed Drew Brees to be their football analysts. But
- 1:54Speaker 1: what you probably don't know is the reason why this happened.
- 1:57Speaker 1: The latest sports media research has shown that's what viewers want.
- 2:02Speaker 1: They don't want a talent with personality. No, they want
- 2:06Speaker 1: a guy who's boring and has no personality so they
- 2:10Speaker 1: don't detract from the game. Yeah, which makes total sense,
- 2:15Speaker 1: because these other guys like Tony Romo, they're just blabbing
- 2:19Speaker 1: on too much. You want a guy you don't even
- 2:22Speaker 1: know he's in the boot, he's so quiet. Yep. And
- 2:25Speaker 1: our sources tell us that Fox is now jumping on
- 2:28Speaker 1: this trend, though they're in deep talks with Joe Flacco
- 2:33Speaker 1: trying to convince him to retire. In fact, he did
- 2:36Speaker 1: a screen test in the off season. He said only
- 2:39Speaker 1: three words and they were barely audible. And he is
- 2:43Speaker 1: the leading candidate. As they say, gravity is the soul
- 2:48Speaker 1: of wit well, said Tony. Alright, more breaking noise, lebron
- 2:55Speaker 1: A d and Durant. Everybody thinks they're injured, right, Nope.
- 3:01Speaker 1: We got a source on one of our message boards.
- 3:03Speaker 1: He runs an airbnb part time in Modesto. He says
- 3:07Speaker 1: he saw the three guys. They're hanging out, walking around
- 3:11Speaker 1: on their two feet. This is all a hoax people,
- 3:14Speaker 1: just so they can get out of playing in the
- 3:16Speaker 1: regular season. You know, people just catching onto message boards now,
- 3:21Speaker 1: you know. I hear people say, oh do you see
- 3:23Speaker 1: what they said on Reddit? But not us, poorly, We've
- 3:26Speaker 1: been on message boards since Stay one of cop You
- 3:29Speaker 1: serve back in yep, ahead of the game as always news.
- 3:37Speaker 1: All right, So the Master's Golf Tournament just had its
- 3:40Speaker 1: lowest rating in twenty eight years. In fact, it's so bad.
- 3:45Speaker 1: Our sources tell us that CBS is considering pulling the
- 3:49Speaker 1: plug on the Masters and replacing it with reruns of
- 3:52Speaker 1: Designing Women The Great Delta Burke. What a show. Now,
- 3:57Speaker 1: obviously the reason his Tiger Wood is out, and you
- 4:01Speaker 1: know that's causing the dropping the ratings. But our sources
- 4:04Speaker 1: tell us p G eight Tour commissioner j Monahan has
- 4:07Speaker 1: a big solution. He's gonna hobble every player on the tour.
- 4:12Speaker 1: Just go out and break their leg so he can
- 4:15Speaker 1: even the playing field and therefore Tiger can compete again.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Bold initiative. This is what you call handicapping the field,
- 4:24Speaker 1: because now every play has got the same handicap. There
- 4:29Speaker 1: you go, people, big breaking news on the show. And
- 4:32Speaker 1: Luco's local's jumping on the line here, a little late
- 4:36Speaker 1: to the game, probably a little jealous because we just
- 4:38Speaker 1: beat him to the punch. Let's bring him on a
- 4:41Speaker 1: bring let's get our guests on here. We're gonna bring
- 4:43Speaker 1: him on the FUSCO Satellite network. Satellite alright, this guy
- 4:51Speaker 1: will give him this. He has established himself as one
- 4:55Speaker 1: of the most trusted writers in sports media journalism. You know,
- 4:59Speaker 1: breaks a lot of story reason got as big as
- 5:01Speaker 1: the ones we break. But you know, Bless is hot.
- 5:03Speaker 1: He tries anyway. He's in his fifteenth year as a
- 5:05Speaker 1: media reporter for the Sports business journal. John Rand Welcome
- 5:09Speaker 1: to the show. Thanks Paul, good to be here. Man. Yeah,
- 5:14Speaker 1: before we get into a big breaking news that we
- 5:17Speaker 1: broke on the show already, let's just talk about you
- 5:19Speaker 1: for a second. You know, you seem to think you
- 5:21Speaker 1: of your hot stuff because you've got something of an
- 5:23Speaker 1: inside thing going. You've got all these sources now, you know,
- 5:26Speaker 1: we get our info because we're famous big time. You know,
- 5:30Speaker 1: people want to talk to us. Why do people want
- 5:32Speaker 1: to talk to you? I mean, how much are you
- 5:34Speaker 1: slipping them? Is it a hundo? Two hundo? Tell us
- 5:37Speaker 1: there's no money that's called pay for play in the business,
- 5:40Speaker 1: and and we we don't do that. We just you know,
- 5:43Speaker 1: we we try to establish relationships with people, try to
- 5:46Speaker 1: get them to trust us, and then we uh, you know,
- 5:49Speaker 1: we run with it all right. Well, you know, maybe
- 5:52Speaker 1: you should consider it. You know, just there was a
- 5:54Speaker 1: helpful suggestion for you, you know, quick question you pay?
- 5:58Speaker 1: Do you pay for your scoop? First of all, do
- 6:02Speaker 1: you understand how how an interview works? We asked the questions,
- 6:05Speaker 1: but no people just people come up to us. They say, hey,
- 6:08Speaker 1: we know you got an audience of millions, we please
- 6:12Speaker 1: broadcast this to everybody for us. That's what they do.
- 6:16Speaker 1: Maybe maybe maybe are you jealous? Is that what you're saying? No,
- 6:19Speaker 1: I'm not trying. I just I thought that was interesting
- 6:21Speaker 1: that that was your first question. So I just was
- 6:23Speaker 1: I thought, maybe that's something that you did. That's all. No,
- 6:26Speaker 1: we have what's called integrity. But please, and also you're
- 6:30Speaker 1: a writer with a host. Allow us to show you
- 6:33Speaker 1: how an interview is structured. Now, hold on about that
- 6:36Speaker 1: you work for this sports business journal. I mean, I
- 6:39Speaker 1: guess that's a pretty narrow audience you're targeting targeting with
- 6:42Speaker 1: that over there, my guests, is your subscribe as Dick
- 6:45Speaker 1: Ebisol And that's it true? Uh, Dickstar is a subscriber.
- 6:50Speaker 1: In fact there, that's true. But you know, we we
- 6:53Speaker 1: have subscribers as the owner of sports, of sports teams.
- 6:57Speaker 1: It's the heads of networks. You know. I think the
- 7:00Speaker 1: guys producing your podcast probably subscribe. They should if they
- 7:03Speaker 1: don't leave produced to Jay he he subscribed the Highlights magazine.
- 7:07Speaker 1: But I digress. You know, don't you you know, don't
- 7:12Speaker 1: you want to be working for a more reputable publication
- 7:15Speaker 1: that everyone reads that has high readership like the USA Today. Yeah,
- 7:21Speaker 1: can I ask you a quick question? I know I'm
- 7:24Speaker 1: not supposed to ask a question. What is going on? What? Well?
- 7:27Speaker 1: My PR department said it's gonna talk about NFL rates.
- 7:30Speaker 1: You wish we did that. What we're gonna talk about
- 7:34Speaker 1: is the story that you kind of let's just say,
- 7:36Speaker 1: had a big swing in a miss with recently. Come on,
- 7:39Speaker 1: you predicted Sinclair's rs n s, which are the regional
- 7:43Speaker 1: sports network to the late people out there. You said
- 7:45Speaker 1: they'd reach a deal with the satellite and cable providers
- 7:48Speaker 1: by MLB opening day. I checked my TV. I don't
- 7:51Speaker 1: see any Sinclair rs ns on that, Tony, do you Nope?
- 7:55Speaker 1: Not one. Don't you think you should take this opportunity
- 7:58Speaker 1: to apologize to your readership out there, the Baltimore based Sinclaire.
- 8:03Speaker 1: I will tell you one thing. If you live in
- 8:06Speaker 1: a Comcast market, and I think you do, you get
- 8:09Speaker 1: you get Sinclair r SENS. So they have a deal
- 8:13Speaker 1: with Comcasts. They do have a deal with the cable company.
- 8:15Speaker 1: I don't know what you're talking about. You know, my
- 8:18Speaker 1: my antenna has been acting weird lately when I might
- 8:21Speaker 1: have to put some momentum on it. Yes. Sorry, if
- 8:24Speaker 1: I don't subscribe to your cable provider or your poor journalism,
- 8:28Speaker 1: I don't know what you're talking about. They all right,
- 8:30Speaker 1: look we'll get two more important stories. You want to
- 8:32Speaker 1: talk NFL media. Okay, this is what we're gonna talk about.
- 8:35Speaker 1: One of the big stories we just broke on the show.
- 8:39Speaker 1: After NBC signed Drew Brees, Fox realized what's hot in
- 8:43Speaker 1: sports media are boring quarterbacks with no personality. So our
- 8:47Speaker 1: sources say that Fox is reaching out to Joe Flacco
- 8:51Speaker 1: to convince him to retire. What are your thoughts on
- 8:54Speaker 1: Flacco potentially replacing Troy Aikman as Fox's lead color guy.
- 8:59Speaker 1: I Flacco would be an elite analyst, and why please
- 9:05Speaker 1: keep the league. He's just a lead. He's gonna lead
- 9:07Speaker 1: his entire career. Ah, this guy have Do you watch football?
- 9:11Speaker 1: John Spero, watch quarterball? Yeah? Like twenty years ago? Yeah,
- 9:17Speaker 1: not that not that long though? You don't think he
- 9:20Speaker 1: was an elite quarterback? Are we getting into his Joe
- 9:24Speaker 1: Flacco elite? Please? I believe the audience has had enough
- 9:28Speaker 1: of that conversation. Is that where you're going with this.
- 9:30Speaker 1: You know, you think a reputable journalist like the elite quarterback.
- 9:34Speaker 1: I said that he was an elite analyst. Oh is
- 9:36Speaker 1: that your phone? Whose phone is going right now? He
- 9:43Speaker 1: has Eric Shanks at at Fox wondering if you sure
- 9:46Speaker 1: signed Flacco and I say yeah, why not? See all right? Well, okay,
- 9:50Speaker 1: we beat you to the story on that one, so
- 9:53Speaker 1: I'm glad to see you jumping on board. You know
- 9:55Speaker 1: another major story we were we just broke. Look, excuse me.
- 10:00Speaker 1: Maybe writers when they write, they can have noises going off,
- 10:03Speaker 1: but this is a podcast. We are sorry. That was
- 10:06Speaker 1: Colin Coward. Oh well you know that guy. We don't.
- 10:10Speaker 1: We don't talk about him. We don't talk about him
- 10:12Speaker 1: on this show. Please look the more important people, lebron
- 10:17Speaker 1: A d and Kevin Durant. We just revealed on the
- 10:19Speaker 1: show they weren't injured at all. In fact, they were
- 10:22Speaker 1: hanging out at an Airbnb in Modesto so they wouldn't
- 10:26Speaker 1: have to waste their time in the regular season. You
- 10:28Speaker 1: didn't break the story, but here you go. Your thoughts
- 10:31Speaker 1: on this stunning development. Uh, I haven't heard that. If
- 10:35Speaker 1: it's true, it would be a stunning development. I take
- 10:38Speaker 1: my hat off to you guys, But I don't I
- 10:40Speaker 1: don't think it's true. I just look at he's jealous, Tony, Yeah,
- 10:45Speaker 1: what makes you you know more than Wade? Though I
- 10:47Speaker 1: wouldn't say I'm jealous. I'm just saying that, like Lebron
- 10:50Speaker 1: has been on the road with the Lakers, I haven't
- 10:54Speaker 1: seen that. I don't know. I don't know how possibly be.
- 10:56Speaker 1: How do you know that's Lebron? You know about the doubles,
- 11:00Speaker 1: you know we're on the message boards, We've seen the pictures.
- 11:03Speaker 1: Not the same Lebron that hairlines different? Is this an
- 11:07Speaker 1: act you got? These are the two worst Baltimore accents
- 11:13Speaker 1: I have ever Baltimore. It's Phil you question, you didn't
- 11:15Speaker 1: even do this. Guy doesn't even do his research before
- 11:18Speaker 1: he goes on a show. And you want to be
- 11:20Speaker 1: a trusted journalist or John rand I mean your career, this,
- 11:25Speaker 1: this might end your career tonight. Look, we'll give you
- 11:27Speaker 1: one chance to pull it out. Here. This is now,
- 11:30Speaker 1: this is this is a big breaking news story here,
- 11:33Speaker 1: this is a big story. All right. You know, we
- 11:36Speaker 1: saw you tweeted about the low ratings and the masters,
- 11:38Speaker 1: you know, twenty eight year low. Now we hear the
- 11:42Speaker 1: PGA Tour sources tell us are doing something drastic in
- 11:45Speaker 1: an effort to bring Tiger back to the tour. P
- 11:48Speaker 1: g A commissioner Jay Monahan is planning to Yeah, he's
- 11:51Speaker 1: planning to hobble all the other players. So it's a
- 11:54Speaker 1: level playing field again and Tiger can compete. Your thoughts
- 11:58Speaker 1: as a media analyst on this bold strategy, I think
- 12:02Speaker 1: if he were to level how all the golfers and
- 12:07Speaker 1: put that on pay per view, it would be one
- 12:10Speaker 1: of the biggest pay per view events in the history
- 12:13Speaker 1: of pay per view. How would he how would he?
- 12:16Speaker 1: How would he cripple them? Would it be with golf
- 12:17Speaker 1: clubs or would it be that Yeah, now you're talking,
- 12:22Speaker 1: oh good questions. But you know, let's not distract from
- 12:25Speaker 1: what we're trying to tell you here. Look, let me
- 12:28Speaker 1: just tell you something. We just showed you how it's
- 12:30Speaker 1: done in this business. How you break stories, and we
- 12:33Speaker 1: broke some big ones. Now we're gonna give you a chance.
- 12:35Speaker 1: Go ahead break What you would consider is it break
- 12:38Speaker 1: a big story right here on the show. Goa you
- 12:40Speaker 1: want a big story to break, please go. My belief
- 12:44Speaker 1: is that ESPN is going to renew Sunday Night Baseball,
- 12:49Speaker 1: and they're gonna pay less per year than they pay
- 12:53Speaker 1: currently in order to show Sunday Night Baseball, which is
- 12:56Speaker 1: a big deal in the media sports rights marketplace. Why
- 13:02Speaker 1: did you think that was a big story. I mean,
- 13:04Speaker 1: we're trying to reach a national audience here, and that's
- 13:07Speaker 1: what you go with a Sunday Night Baseball deal. Bryce
- 13:11Speaker 1: Harper is about to get richer. I thought you would be.
- 13:13Speaker 1: I thought that would all right. Now you're getting. Now,
- 13:16Speaker 1: you're getting somewhere. Yeah. Look, look, we'll help you. We'll
- 13:19Speaker 1: help you. This is how you make news. Well, we'll
- 13:21Speaker 1: teach you something here in the business. A few weeks ago,
- 13:23Speaker 1: we had Jason whitlock on. He called Clay Travis a
- 13:26Speaker 1: word that we don't like to use because out of
- 13:29Speaker 1: respect for females. But your rivals in this business, you know,
- 13:32Speaker 1: Jim Miller, other people. Is there a body part that
- 13:35Speaker 1: you would like to call him? Right now? Go ahead
- 13:38Speaker 1: and make news. Let's see who would I want to
- 13:40Speaker 1: call out? Um? Yeah, you know what? I hate Colin Coward.
- 13:49Speaker 1: Now you're talking and why he's a sure? You know
- 13:54Speaker 1: I don't disagree with you. Yeah, we don't need we
- 13:57Speaker 1: don't dsagree In fact, I kind of like this John
- 14:00Speaker 1: Iran that's coming out here? Is there anyone else you
- 14:03Speaker 1: want to go after? Go off the top rope? Come on,
- 14:05Speaker 1: it's the Philly that's coming out in me. Come and
- 14:08Speaker 1: keep going, Come on, give us one more, one more?
- 14:11Speaker 1: All right? How about um? Oh god, I'm trying to
- 14:15Speaker 1: think of who's on Fox Fox this afternoon daytime. I
- 14:18Speaker 1: can't think of one person that's on their daytime show. Wow,
- 14:22Speaker 1: that was that was one. I thought. I thought that
- 14:24Speaker 1: was a good one. That was a kind of a
- 14:25Speaker 1: sly one. I slid under the rug there that was on?
- 14:28Speaker 1: Like Mark Silverman and Eric Shanks. You know you want
- 14:31Speaker 1: to go after them? You want to say something? Um, yeah,
- 14:37Speaker 1: I'll thought it. Charlie Dixon? How about him? Yeah? What
- 14:40Speaker 1: do you want to say about him? His show's stink?
- 14:43Speaker 1: I gotta say. You know, normally we at this point
- 14:47Speaker 1: of the show we throw the guests off the show. Tony,
- 14:50Speaker 1: you can't. But I'm actually kind of impressed by where
- 14:54Speaker 1: does we like you? Why? Where does genrend is going? So?
- 14:58Speaker 1: John ang Grand are you angry? Yeah? You got me angry?
- 15:02Speaker 1: How did that work? I think it's a Philly You've
- 15:04Speaker 1: got the filly. This guy, this guy is intense. So
- 15:08Speaker 1: you know, this is the first for us on this show.
- 15:10Speaker 1: Mr Rand, I'm not gonna kick you off the show.
- 15:13Speaker 1: We're not gonna do that, don'ty. In fact, we're gonna
- 15:15Speaker 1: say good job to you. It seems like we taught
- 15:18Speaker 1: you something. You now understand how sports media works. Eat that, whitlock,
- 15:23Speaker 1: eat that. I love it. Oh, look at anything else.
- 15:27Speaker 1: When I say one last thing, I don't mean you.
- 15:30Speaker 1: You started. You started this whole thing off asking how
- 15:33Speaker 1: I got stories? Look you were too jerks. Oh I
- 15:36Speaker 1: got you, I got you, I got you warring up
- 15:39Speaker 1: to me. Look at that. You see how hazy that
- 15:42Speaker 1: I could got stories? Yeah, yeah, we're gonna do it.
- 15:49Speaker 1: Guess what. Guess what, John, you belong in the John
- 15:52Speaker 1: because you're the shot. It's like, yeah, go away off
- 15:59Speaker 1: the show. This is crazy. Is he up the line?
- 16:06Speaker 1: JH and this guy, we were nice to him, you know.
- 16:10Speaker 1: I gotta say though, I was really warming up to
- 16:12Speaker 1: this old Rand guy and then he blew it. Yeah,
- 16:15Speaker 1: our end more like his end when he crosses us
- 16:19Speaker 1: like that, well said Tony. You know, but obviously we
- 16:25Speaker 1: can't let that get to us because you know, we
- 16:27Speaker 1: got big sponsors lined up, as we always do at
- 16:29Speaker 1: this point in the show, and this time we're gonna
- 16:31Speaker 1: do an ad for a company we've mentioned in the
- 16:34Speaker 1: show earlier, one of the great new names in the
- 16:37Speaker 1: area of travel and hospitality, air b and B. Do
- 16:42Speaker 1: you like the idea of staying in a stranger's house.
- 16:46Speaker 1: Do you have fantasies about waking up somewhere and not
- 16:49Speaker 1: knowing where you are? Well, then you're gonna love air
- 16:52Speaker 1: b and B. At Airbnb, you get to stay in
- 16:56Speaker 1: some randall's house and it works out just fine. In fact,
- 16:59Speaker 1: they tell them about the experience that someone you know
- 17:03Speaker 1: had with Airbnb recently. Yeah, my aunt Marie and her
- 17:08Speaker 1: partner non Cio recently converted their one bedroom apartment into
- 17:13Speaker 1: an air b and B. They let people stay there
- 17:17Speaker 1: when they go out of town. Then the other day
- 17:21Speaker 1: she told me she had a guest book for the
- 17:23Speaker 1: weekend and I said, Marie, I didn't know you were
- 17:26Speaker 1: going out of town, and then she said I'm not.
- 17:31Speaker 1: Then I said, wait, where are you going to sleep?
- 17:35Speaker 1: And then she winked at me, and then Nunzio winked
- 17:38Speaker 1: at me, And that's when I realized they weren't running
- 17:42Speaker 1: an air B and B at all. They were running
- 17:45Speaker 1: a brothel and fucking all the guests. What a wonderful
- 17:50Speaker 1: story and such a true testament, maybe not the air
- 17:54Speaker 1: B and B, but to the general concept of having
- 17:57Speaker 1: people stay in your homes when they're stranger. Alright, well,
- 18:02Speaker 1: you know that wraps up by advertisement, and hey, that
- 18:05Speaker 1: wraps a terrific shows. No, I know, it's our produced Jay.
- 18:13Speaker 1: You know, luckily we got a couple of weeks off
- 18:15Speaker 1: from you. What what a couple of corrects? Tony? You
- 18:20Speaker 1: said gravity is the soul of wit. Yep, it's actually
