- 0:004, 3, 2, 1. In Deuteronomy
- 0:0425, verse 17, it is written, remember what
- 0:08Amalek did to you on the way as you were coming out of Egypt,
- 0:12how he met you on the way and attacked your rear ranks, all the stragglers
- 0:16at your rear, when you were tired and hungry, and he did not
- 0:20fear God. Therefore it shall be, when the Lord
- 0:24your God has given you rest from your enemies all around in the land which
- 0:28the Lord your God is giving you to possess, as an inheritance,
- 0:32that you will blot out the remembrance
- 0:36of Amalek from under heaven. You shall not forget.
- 0:41Why did God want the children of Israel to blot out
- 0:45the remembrance of Amalek? Who are the Amalekites?
- 0:51Does the spirit of Amalek exist today?
- 0:54Listen in as we unpack this.
- 0:58Welcome to the Daily Audio Torah. Today is September
- 1:0112th. Now let's continue our journey reading through the entire Bible in
- 1:06one year. This week we are reading from the Israel
- 1:10Bible for the Old Testament and from the King James for the New Testament.
- 1:16Deuteronomy 25:1-19.
- 1:21When there is a dispute between men and they go to law and and a
- 1:24decision is rendered declaring the one in the right and the other in
- 1:28the wrong.
- 1:31If the guilty one is to be flogged, the magistrate shall have
- 1:35him lie down and be given lashes in his presence by count as
- 1:39his guilt warrants. He may be given up to 40 lashes
- 1:43but not more, lest being flogged further to
- 1:46excess your brother be degraded before your eyes.
- 1:49You shall not muzzle an ox while it is threshing.
- 1:53When brothers dwell together and one of them dies and leaves no
- 1:57son, the wife of the deceased shall not be married to a
- 2:00stranger outside the family. Her husband's brother shall
- 2:04unite with her. He shall take her as his wife and
- 2:07perform the lover's duty. The first son that she
- 2:12bears shall be accounted to the dead brother, that his name may not be blotted
- 2:16out in Israel.
- 2:19But if the man does not want to marry his brother's widow, his brother's widow
- 2:23shall appear before the elders in the gate and declare, my husband's brother
- 2:28refuses to establish a name in Israel for his brother. He will not
- 2:32perform the duty of a levir. The elders of his
- 2:35town shall then summon him and talk to him. If he
- 2:39insists, saying, I do not want to marry her, his brother's
- 2:42widow shall go up to him in the presence of the elders pull
- 2:46the sandal off his foot, spit in his face, and make this declaration:
- 2:50Thus shall be done to the man who will not build up his brother's house.
- 2:54And he shall go in Israel by the name of the family of the unsandaled
- 2:59one. If 2 men get into a fight with each other,
- 3:02and the wife of one comes up to save her husband from his antagonist,
- 3:07and puts out her hand and seizes him by his genitals, you shall
- 3:11cut off her hand. Show no pity. You shall not have in
- 3:15your pouch alternate weights, larger and smaller.
- 3:19You shall not have in your house alternate measures, a larger and
- 3:22a smaller. You must have completely honest weights
- 3:26and completely honest measures if you are to
- 3:30endure long on the soil that Hashem your God is giving you.
- 3:33For everyone who does those things, everyone who deals dishonestly,
- 3:37is abhorrent to Hashem your God. Remember what Amalek
- 3:42did to you on your journey after you left Egypt, how undeterred
- 3:46by fear of Hashem he surprised you on the march when you were
- 3:50famished and weary and cut down all the stragglers in
- 3:54your rear. Therefore, when Hashem your God grants you
- 3:58safety from all your enemies around you in the land that Hashem your
- 4:02God is giving you as a hereditary portion, you shall blot
- 4:06out the memory of Amalek from under heaven. Do not forget.
- 4:16Isaiah 10:1-11:16.
- 4:23Ha! Those who write out evil writs and compose iniquitous
- 4:27documents to subvert the cause of the poor, to rob
- 4:31of their rights the needy of my people, that widows may be
- 4:35their spoil and fatherless children their booty.
- 4:38What will you do on the day of punishment when the calamity comes from
- 4:42afar? To whom will you flee for help? And how will you save
- 4:46your carcasses from collapsing under fellow prisoners, from falling
- 4:49beneath the slain? Yet his anger has not turned
- 4:54back, and his arm is outstretched still. Ha!
- 4:58Assyria, rod of my anger, in whose hand
- 5:01as a staff is my fury! I send him against
- 5:05an ungodly nation. I charge him against a people that provokes
- 5:09me to take its spoil and to seize its booty and to make it a
- 5:12thing trampled like the mire of the streets. But he
- 5:16has evil plans. His mind harbors evil designs,
- 5:20for he means to destroy, to wipe out nations, not a few.
- 5:25For he thinks, after all, I have kings as my captains.
- 5:29Was Calneh any different from Carchemish, or Hamath
- 5:33from Arpad, or Shomron from Damascus?
- 5:36Since I was able to seize the insignificant kingdoms whose
- 5:40images exceeded Jerusalem's and Shomron's, shall I not
- 5:44do to Jerusalem and her images what I did to Shomron
- 5:47and her idols? But when my Lord has carried
- 5:51out all his purpose on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem,
- 5:54He will punish the majestic pride and overbearing arrogance of
- 5:58the king of Assyria. For he thought, by the might
- 6:03of my hand have I wrought it, by my skill, for I
- 6:06am clever. I have erased the borders of
- 6:09peoples. I have plundered their treasures and exiled their
- 6:13vast populations. I was able to seize like
- 6:17a nest the wealth of the peoples. As one gathers
- 6:20abandoned eggs, so I gathered all the earth. Nothing so much as
- 6:25flapped a wing or opened a mouth to peep. Does an axe
- 6:29boast over him who hews with it, or a saw magnify itself
- 6:33above him who wields it? As though the rod raised him
- 6:36who lifts it, as though the staff lifted the man!
- 6:40Assuredly the Sovereign Lord of hosts will send a wasting away
- 6:43in its fatness, and under its body shall burn a burning like
- 6:47that of fire, destroying frame and flesh. It shall be
- 6:51like a sick man who pines away. The light
- 6:54of Israel will be fire, and its Holy One flame. It will burn
- 6:58and consume its thorns and its thistles in a single day,
- 7:02and the mass of its scrub and its farmland.
- 7:05What trees remain of its scrub shall be so few that a boy may
- 7:09record them. And in that day, the remnant of
- 7:13Israel and the escaped of the house of Jacob shall lean no more upon
- 7:17him that beats it, but shall lean sincerely on Hashem,
- 7:21the Holy One of Israel. Only a remnant shall return,
- 7:25only a remnant of Jacob to mighty Hashem.
- 7:29Even if your people, O Israel, should be as the sands of the sea,
- 7:33only a remnant of it shall return. Destruction is decreed,
- 7:38retribution comes like a flood, for my Lord God of
- 7:41hosts is carrying out a decree of destruction upon all the land.
- 7:46Assuredly, thus said my Lord God of hosts, O my people that dwells
- 7:50in Zion, have no fear of Assyria who beats
- 7:54you with a rod and wields his staff over you as did the
- 7:58Egyptians.
- 8:02For very soon my wrath will have spent itself and my anger
- 8:05that has bent on wasting them.
- 8:13The Lord of hosts, Yahweh Sabaoth, will brandish a scourge
- 8:17over him as when he beat Midian at the Rock of Oreb,
- 8:21and will wield his staff as he did over the Egyptians by
- 8:25the sea. And in that day his burden shall drop from your back and
- 8:29his yoke from your neck. The yoke shall be destroyed because of
- 8:33fatness. He advanced upon Aiath, he proceeded to Migron,
- 8:37At Micmas he deposited his baggage. They made the
- 8:41crossing. Geba is to be our night quarters.
- 8:45Rama was alarmed. Geba of Shaul took to flight.
- 8:49Give a shrill cry, O Baal-Gelim! Hearken,
- 8:52Lasha! Take up the cry, Anathoth!
- 8:56Madmina ran away. The dwellers of Gebim sought refuge.
- 9:00This same day at Nob he shall stand and wave his hand,
- 9:03O Mount of fair Zion! O hill of Jerusalem!
- 9:08Lo, the Sovereign Lord of Hosts will hew off tree crowns with an
- 9:12axe. The tall ones shall be felled, the lofty ones cut
- 9:15down. The thickets of the forest shall be hacked away with iron,
- 9:19and the Lebanon trees shall fall in their majesty.
- 9:23But a shoot shall grow out of the stump of Yishai,
- 9:26a twig shall sprout from his stock. The Spirit of Hashem
- 9:30shall alight upon him, a spirit of wisdom and insight, a spirit
- 9:35of counsel and valor, a spirit of devotion and reverence for Hashem.
- 9:40He shall sense the truth by his reverence for Hashem. He shall
- 9:44not judge by what his eyes behold, nor decide by what his ears
- 9:48perceive. Thus he shall judge the poor with equity
- 9:52and decide with justice for the lowly of the land.
- 9:56He shall strike down a land with the rod of his mouth and slay the
- 9:59wicked. With the breath of his lips. Justice shall be
- 10:03the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his waist.
- 10:08The wolf shall dwell with the lamb, the leopard lie down with the
- 10:12kid, the calf, the beast of prey, and the fatling together,
- 10:16with a little boy to herd them. The cow and the bear shall graze,
- 10:20their young shall lie down together, and the lion,
- 10:23like the ox, shall eat straw. A babe shall play
- 10:27over a viper's hole and an infant pass his hand over
- 10:31an adder's den. In all of my sacred mount, nothing evil
- 10:36or vile shall be done, for the land shall be filled with devotion
- 10:40to Hashem as water covers
- 10:44the sea. In that day, the stock of Ishshai
- 10:49that has remained standing shall become a standard to peoples.
- 10:53Nations shall seek his counsel, and his abode shall be honored.
- 10:57In that day, my Lord will apply his hand again to redeeming the other
- 11:01part of his people from Assyria, as also from Egypt,
- 11:05Pathros, Nubia, Elam, Shinar, Hamath,
- 11:08and the coastlands. He will hold up a signal to
- 11:11the nations and assemble the banished of Israel and gather
- 11:15the dispersed of Judah from the 4 corners
- 11:20of the earth.
- 11:22Then Ephraim's envy shall cease and Judah's
- 11:27harassment shall end. Ephraim shall not envy Judah
- 11:32and Judah shall not harass Ephraim. They shall pounce
- 11:36on the back of Philistia to the west and together plunder the peoples of
- 11:40the east. Edom and Moab shall be subject to them and the children
- 11:43of Ammon shall obey them. Hashem will dry up the
- 11:47tongue of the Egyptian Sea. He will raise His hand over
- 11:50the Euphrates with the might of His wind and break it into 7 rivers
- 11:54so that it can be trodden dryshod. Thus there
- 11:59shall be a highway for the other part of His people out of
- 12:03Assyria, such as there was for Israel
- 12:07when it left the land of Egypt.
- 12:212 Corinthians 12:11-21.
- 12:28I, Paul, have become a fool in glorifying you have
- 12:32compelled me, for I ought to have been commended of you. For in nothing am
- 12:36I behind the very chief apostles, though I be nothing.
- 12:40Truly the signs of an apostle were wrought among you on all patience,
- 12:44in signs and wonders and mighty deeds. For what is
- 12:47it wherein you were inferior to other
- 12:51churches, except it be that I myself was not burdensome
- 12:54to you? Forgive me this wrong. Behold, the 3rd
- 12:59time I am ready to come to you, and I will not be burdensome
- 13:02to you, for I seek not yours but you. For the children
- 13:06ought not to lay up for the parents, but the parents for the
- 13:10children. And I will very gladly spend and be spent for you,
- 13:14though the more abundantly I love you, the less I be loved.
- 13:19But be it so, I did not burden you.
- 13:22Nevertheless, being crafty, I caught you with guile.
- 13:26Did I make a gain of you by any of them whom
- 13:29I sent to you? I desired Titus, and with
- 13:33him I sent a brother. Did Titus make a gain of you?
- 13:36Walked we not in the same spirit? Walked we not in the
- 13:41same steps? Again, do you think that we excuse ourselves to
- 13:44you? We speak before God in Christ, but we
- 13:48do all things, dearly beloved, for your edifying.
- 13:52For I fear lest when I come I shall not find you
- 13:56such as I would, and that I shall be found unto you such as you
- 13:59would not. Lest there be debates, envyings,
- 14:03wraths, strifes, backbitings, whisperings, swellings, and tumults.
- 14:07And lest when I come again my God will humble me among you,
- 14:11and that I shall bewail many which have sinned again already and
- 14:16have not repented of the uncleanness and fornication and
- 14:20lasciviousness which they have committed.
- 14:27Psalm 56:1-13.
- 14:34Be merciful unto me, O God, for the man would swallow me up.
- 14:37He fighting daily oppresses me.
- 14:41My enemies would daily swallow me up, for they be many
- 14:44that fight against me. O Most High, what time I am
- 14:48afraid, I will trust in you. In God
- 14:52I will praise his word. In God I have put my trust.
- 14:56I will not fear what flesh can do to me. Every day they
- 15:00wrest my words. All their thoughts are against me for evil.
- 15:03They gather themselves together, they hide themselves, they mark
- 15:07my steps when they wait for my soul. Shall they escape my iniquity?
- 15:12In your anger cast down the people, O God. You tell
- 15:16my wanderings You put my tears into your bottle.
- 15:19Are they not in your book? When I cry unto you,
- 15:23then shall my enemies turn back. This I know, for God is
- 15:27for me. In God will I praise his word.
- 15:31In the Lord I will praise his word. In God I
- 15:35have put my trust. I will not be afraid what man can do
- 15:38to me. Your vows are upon me, O God. I will
- 15:42render praises unto you. For you have delivered my soul
- 15:46from death. Will you not deliver my feet from falling, that I may walk before
- 15:50God in the light of the living?
- 15:55Proverbs 23:6-8.
- 15:59Eat not the bread of him that has an evil eye,
- 16:03neither desire his dainty meats. For as he
- 16:06thinks in his heart, so is he. Eat and drink says
- 16:10he to you, but his heart is not with you, the morsel
- 16:14which you have eaten shall vomit up and lose your sweet words.
- 16:19I'd like to speak to you today from our reading from Deuteronomy chapter 25,
- 16:23and then we're going to look into Isaiah chapter 11.
- 16:28And in Deuteronomy chapter 25,
- 16:34verse 19, It is written, therefore, when Hashem
- 16:38your God grants you safety from all your enemies around you
- 16:42in the land that Hashem your God is giving you as a hereditary
- 16:45portion, you shall blot out the memory
- 16:49of Amalek from under heaven. Do not
- 16:54forget. The Israel Bible Commentary to this
- 16:58verse reads as follows: One of the 3 commandments
- 17:01that the people of Israel are to fulfill after successfully conquering the land
- 17:06of Israel is the obliteration of the Amalekites.
- 17:10The Amalekites are descendants of Esau and were the first to
- 17:14attack the children of Israel after the Exodus from Egypt.
- 17:18Amalek is more than just a nation. It represents an ideology
- 17:23antithetical to that of Israel— absolute
- 17:27denial of godliness in this world and a total lack
- 17:31of morality. For this reason, once the land
- 17:35is conquered and the people of Israel are settled, Israel was required
- 17:39to wage war against Amalek and against their system
- 17:43of belief. Now I want to add to that, there is a passage
- 17:48in Exodus where Moses is lifting up his arms and Israel,
- 17:52the children of Israel, are fighting in a battle against Amalek.
- 17:56And as long as his arms are lifted up, Israel prevails.
- 17:59But as soon as his arms begin to droop, Israel begins to
- 18:03lose the battle. So 2 people come alongside,
- 18:07Aaron and Hur, beside him, and they hold up
- 18:11his arms. Amalek is absolutely—
- 18:15it's a spiritual presence. The descendants of
- 18:19Amalek, uh, later on we have— well,
- 18:23Amalek came from Esau. Esau hates Jacob, and he
- 18:27absolutely detests his brother, wants to murder him and kill him.
- 18:31And so Amalek is a descendant of Esau,
- 18:34and then Amalek gives rise to King Agag,
- 18:38and he is an Amalekite. And Saul is tasked
- 18:43to take out all the Amalekites and not leave a single one
- 18:47of them alive. Well, Saul fails this mission, and he allows
- 18:51King Agag to live. And because of that,
- 18:55God takes away the kingship away from Saul.
- 18:59But Agag, before he later dies,
- 19:03does continue to have children.
- 19:06And a couple of generations later, we have Haman,
- 19:10Haman the Agagite. He's a descendant of King Agag.
- 19:15And Haman has a genocidal hatred
- 19:19towards the Jewish people, and he issues the edict
- 19:23that all the Jews on a certain day were to be slaughtered,
- 19:26massacred, killed, genocided. And so
- 19:30the spirit of Amalek is very much alive today.
- 19:34How do you recognize it? Any group or entity
- 19:39that hates Israel, that hates the Jewish people,
- 19:43that wants to wipe the Jewish people off the map,
- 19:47they, I would say, are exhibiting the
- 19:51characteristics of Amalek. Of the spirit of
- 19:55Amalek. So the spirit of Amalek is opposed
- 19:58to the children of Israel, and the spirit of Amalek is opposed
- 20:03to the God of Israel. I would include Iran,
- 20:07the government of Iran, who wants to wipe Israel off the map,
- 20:11Hamas, Hezbollah, and the extreme woke
- 20:16leftists who are marching in the streets in support
- 20:19of Hamas and in support of the murderous October
- 20:247th massacre that they did against the Jewish people. So Amalek,
- 20:28sadly, the spirit of Amalek is very much alive and
- 20:32well today, and they are opposed to the children of Israel
- 20:36and opposed to the God of Israel.
- 20:39Please keep Israel in your prayers
- 20:42that they would finish the war against Hamas
- 20:46in the Gaza Strip, and that they would be able to transition
- 20:50to the day after. I would like to see
- 20:54them declare sovereignty and annex the land and resettle it because
- 20:58it is a part of the land
- 21:02grant inheritance that God gave to the Jewish people.
- 21:08And now let's turn to Isaiah chapter 11, and I want to
- 21:11focus in on verse 12 where it is written,
- 21:15He will hold up a signal or an ensign,
- 21:17like a flag or a banner, to the nations,
- 21:21and assemble the banished of Israel, and gather
- 21:25the dispersed of Judah from the 4 corners of
- 21:28the earth. The Israel Bible Commentary to this verse reads
- 21:32as follows: For thousands of years,
- 21:35Jews read these prophecies and believed them,
- 21:39yet wondered how and when they would actually take place
- 21:43During the past century, Jews have returned to the Land of Israel
- 21:47from literally all parts of the earth, from Asia
- 21:51and Russia, Europe, North and South America, Australia, and New
- 21:55Zealand. This section was chosen as the
- 21:59Haftarah portion to be read on Israel's Independence Day,
- 22:03expressing the hope and belief that the founding of
- 22:07the State of Israel is the beginning of the fulfillment
- 22:11of these prophecies. And with that,
- 22:14we will close, and I will see you tomorrow. Shalom.
- 22:38Yeah, yeah,
- 22:42yeah.
- 23:23The Aaronic Blessing from Numbers chapter 6,
- 23:2724 to 26.
- 23:30Adonai bless you and keep you.
- 23:33Adonai make his face to shine upon you and
- 23:37be gracious to you. Adonai lift up his countenance
- 23:41upon you and give you peace.
