- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Three O Take, where we talk
- 0:04all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate Reyes.
- 0:10It all starts right now. Welcome back to the Three O Take
- 0:16presented by Sea Kick. This is episode 438.
- 0:19I'll be your host, Kyle Cord, and I'm here with my Co host
- 0:23Nate Reyes. Nate.
- 0:30Oh boy, this almost didn't happen.
- 0:34It was almost the end of us. Just kidding, but the unit, once
- 0:41again, technical issues, promise.
- 0:44You know, maybe like another 5-10 years of doing this, we'll
- 0:47get it to where we're we're good to go without the tech issues.
- 0:52Doubt it, but the universe said Nope.
- 0:56This is an opportunity for Kyle to give Aaron Judges props and
- 1:01it's going to happen as much as I tried to get out of it.
- 1:04Awfully convenient Verizon Wi-Fi failures.
- 1:10Dude, I was ready to throw this laptop across the room.
- 1:12I can assure you there was no there was no fake outages taking
- 1:15place. I it's one of those days.
- 1:17Nothing seems to go right, but what better way to cap it off
- 1:22than by having to talk about Aaron Judge for however long we
- 1:26talk about him so. That's great.
- 1:28What a day. I love that.
- 1:32I hate it. I hate it.
- 1:34Nate, we are two months, 2 plus months into the season.
- 1:39And as our listeners very well know that is, well, I, I, I've
- 1:44mentioned before, I'm with you on it.
- 1:46But I, I want to credit you for, for the, the two-month sample
- 1:51size, as it were, because that's something that you're big on,
- 1:54something you believe in and something that you think is a
- 1:58good indicator for how the season is going to go, whether
- 2:03it be for a player, for a team, Gives you enough of an idea of
- 2:07how things are going, whether good or bad.
- 2:11So with that said, wanted to just off the top here, talk
- 2:17about where things are at. I know games are going on right
- 2:21now, but we're we're about 60 games through the season.
- 2:29In fact, I'd say majority of the teams are exactly 60 games
- 2:33through the season. Some of the some of the teams a
- 2:36little more, a little more obvious in terms of their
- 2:41success. Some of these teams we can
- 2:44pretty much write off in terms of any sort of playoff hopes,
- 2:50shout out Chicago White Sox, good luck.
- 2:55But looking at the standings, is there anything that jumps out at
- 2:59you? Is there anything that you
- 3:02anticipated happening again, whether good or bad?
- 3:04Is there anything that has surprised you thus far?
- 3:13My biggest surprise, I mean, if we're going to go like one team
- 3:18per league, I'm I'm not going to sit here and say I was a
- 3:24believer in the Blue Jays, but like this, this is pretty this
- 3:29is pretty alarming, you know what I mean?
- 3:32And and when you talk about like a roster that is, I think a lot
- 3:38of other ball clubs would kill for, you know, like you got a
- 3:42couple names in there that you would expect just another year
- 3:47of maturity, another year of being able to take that next
- 3:52step. Like, you know, the Vlads and
- 3:54the bows and but it's just like that pitching staff and, and you
- 4:00know, I, I just, I don't understand.
- 4:02I'm kind of lost, man. Like vibes are high in Canada.
- 4:06We have these renovations in the park.
- 4:09It seems like like Vlad and PO are ready to earn contracts long
- 4:15term, whether it's with this organization or another, but
- 4:18it's like, it's just weird, man. Like I, I don't know, I don't
- 4:26follow. It doesn't compute.
- 4:28So that one's a big one for me. I think the other one would
- 4:34would probably be the Reds. I know that was like a little
- 4:41bit of a bold take, but I wasn't alone there, You know what I
- 4:45mean? There's a lot of there's a lot
- 4:47of people that were pretty high on the Reds and not like sitting
- 4:50here and saying the NL Central, you're going to see like a 95 to
- 4:55100 game winner lead that or win that division.
- 4:57But I mean, at the moment they're seven games under 500,
- 5:02They're 9 1/2 back in the division in last place.
- 5:07And it's just like, it's super underwhelming, so.
- 5:11And somehow only surprises, somehow only three games back in
- 5:15the wild card. Yeah, it's, it's just the top,
- 5:19the the NL is just so top heavy. For me taking the the one in
- 5:25each league route, I would, I would say that I think this
- 5:29again touching on the the two-month sample size, I think
- 5:32the Royals have proven 60 games through 60 plus games through
- 5:39that. They are they are real.
- 5:41They're very much here to stay. I would, I would venture say for
- 5:44the remainder of 2024 and that they're legitimate.
- 5:48They're a legitimate threat come October.
- 5:51Yeah, I would imagine some sort of they're going to hit some
- 5:55sort of slide sometime in the near future as majority of these
- 5:58seems. I mean, you have to be
- 6:00absolutely dominant up and down the roster to make it through
- 6:06162 relatively unscathed. So I'm not going to sit here and
- 6:09say that the Royals are are going to be free and clear of
- 6:13any sort of skid that that's coming.
- 6:15But I think they, they've proven that they're not going to be
- 6:19they're not going to be at the bottom of the division, yeah,
- 6:22come September. So love to see that I.
- 6:26Real quick on that, I, I was talking to my father-in-law the
- 6:29other day and he's got like one of his good friends that when
- 6:33Arizona, a lot of people in that generation snowbird.
- 6:37So you'll get people here for, you know, from like October to
- 6:43April and then they go to wherever other city during the
- 6:48summer. But one of his good friends is
- 6:50from Kansas City, huge Chiefs fan and he's like, yeah, the
- 6:55city is bumping when the Chiefs are rolling, but it's way
- 7:00different when the Royals are going.
- 7:02It's like. Really.
- 7:03Yeah, he's like, it is baseball town, like we.
- 7:08It's just it feels different when the Royals are hot.
- 7:11Wow. So it's cool to see, man.
- 7:14It's really cool to see. That makes me, that makes me
- 7:16feel good, man, 'cause I, it's well documented.
- 7:19I was, I was high on the Royals this to start the year, to start
- 7:22the season. And like I said, I, I, I think
- 7:28I, I think they're well on their way to towards at least
- 7:32contending for a, a spot in the postseason and my goodness.
- 7:38Would seeing. Bobby Witt in the postseason
- 7:40just not be the greatest thing. Honestly.
- 7:43My goodness. And then in the National League,
- 7:47kind of a little bit under the radar of a pick, but the
- 7:51Nationals, they're as it stands right now, they're just about
- 7:55where I had them pegged to start the to start the year when when
- 7:58I was talking about how they're not going to compete for the
- 8:01division, certainly and with the way the Phillies are playing,
- 8:05not even a question. But they have improved and
- 8:10granted, they're, they're four games under under 500 at at the
- 8:13moment. That's, that's kind of still
- 8:17where I had them. Like I'm, I'm not, I'm not, I'm
- 8:20not saying they're going to be 10 games over when it's all said
- 8:23and done, But they're, they're making improvements.
- 8:26And I'll be honest, I've been saying for a handful of seasons
- 8:31now like just give it time, get let it, let these pieces fall
- 8:34into place, let these pieces develop and they'll be, I think
- 8:38they'll be a lot better in the near future.
- 8:40And I think, I think with the help of CJ Abrams and and names
- 8:43like that, I think think they're in a good spot.
- 8:46Yeah, that's, I mean, if they if they win, if they finish the
- 8:49season at 500, like I would consider that a wildly
- 8:53successful turn around and like a very good step forward in the
- 8:57right direction. So I'm with you.
- 8:59I'm just, I'm surprised. I I know you're in the area.
- 9:02So like it's easier to to kind of have that finger on the pulse
- 9:06a little bit. But I am surprised too.
- 9:09So good for them. Funny enough, you taken two of
- 9:13the the negative surprises and I just, yeah, without even
- 9:17thinking about it, took two of two of the the more positive.
- 9:20Surprises. Based on your Wi-Fi, I thought
- 9:22you're gonna be the -1 tonight, yeah.
- 9:24You know what? Well, that that's a, a great
- 9:26segue into our next topic, which is our our headlining topic, and
- 9:30that is Aaron Judge. This is this is your guy.
- 9:35So I'm going to let you run with this, but just know that I do
- 9:38have some numbers prepared to give this man his flowers as it
- 9:44stands to, to start the month of June.
- 9:48But tell us, just tell U.S. Open our eyes to the world of
- 9:54Aaron Judge and what you've been able to witness.
- 9:57Not really. I mean we can talk Judge for
- 9:59sure, but we I feel like you can't talk Judge right now and
- 10:02not mention Soto. So maybe give us give us an idea
- 10:06of just how insane this turn around for Judge has been.
- 10:10I, I mean, we'll read off some Nuggets.
- 10:13I've have like random Nuggets to read off as far as numbers go,
- 10:16but I, I think it's maybe one of the best months of baseball I've
- 10:25ever watched offensively. Like it is it, it's kind of
- 10:30laughable when you see what he's doing.
- 10:37I I it's hard. It's hard to put into words, man
- 10:39like it's it's obviously the the I love the depth of what that
- 10:46lineup has become when these two guys are going right.
- 10:53I wasn't worried after he started.
- 10:56Like I think I was for sure comp with there's there's a
- 11:00ridiculous amount of Yankees fans that were like, send them
- 11:03down, let them get right. And I'm like, what are you
- 11:07talking about? Hold on, hold on this.
- 11:09Is news to me. This is legitimate news to me.
- 11:12Are you serious? I'm not kidding.
- 11:14There was like a big number of Yankee fans that were like, send
- 11:18them down and I'm like, what are you talking about?
- 11:22Do you think any of them were over the age of 20?
- 11:25I don't know, dude, I don't know, Probably not.
- 11:28I there's probably some bots mixed in.
- 11:30It was it was strange. It felt it felt weird and we got
- 11:37to remember that like he did miss a big chunk of spring
- 11:40training and like having a slow start is having a slow start.
- 11:44Like it is what it is. I will say I think a lot of his
- 11:51turn around in the, the, the credit has to go to to Soto for
- 11:57every single pitcher to deal with Soto before getting to
- 12:01Judge. It changes everything for Judge
- 12:07to be able to see. I mean, and, and it's a big
- 12:10credit to the way Volpe has been doing too.
- 12:12I mean, a huge jump up from his rookie year.
- 12:15So to see 1012 pitches before he even gets to the dish is like
- 12:22that's a huge advantage. And every pitcher, it's like you
- 12:26have to be on, you have to, you have to be spot on with Juan
- 12:31Soto. You got to be spot on again
- 12:35after more often than not losing that battle to Juan Soto.
- 12:40So it, it's a crazy, crazy jump for what he's doing.
- 12:46And I wanted to look back because I remember, I remember
- 12:50recording and I wanted to find the exact day.
- 12:57Here it was, let's see, I think it was the last game.
- 13:07Is that it? That's it.
- 13:13It was the last game of the Tigers series.
- 13:17It was May 5th. That was on a Sunday.
- 13:21Be recorded after that game and I said to reach school pitched
- 13:28and judge hit a home run to right and I said it's coming,
- 13:30here it comes. You absolutely said that.
- 13:32This is this is like the tell when he starts going the other
- 13:36way and he starts because it the like the few games before it was
- 13:39like, all right, a ground ball through the right side, all
- 13:42right, a hard line drive to the right side and all of a sudden
- 13:44there's lift to the right side and you're like, he's back here.
- 13:47It comes. And sure enough, it's when he
- 13:51starts staying middle of the field and everything's just left
- 13:53center tanks and right center tanks.
- 13:56It's absurd, man. And it's the fastball's in, it's
- 14:00the off speed down. He's he's covering everything.
- 14:07It's it's one of the most dominant offensive months I've
- 14:13seen from a Yankee ever, much less like another player.
- 14:20Can I can I throw some some numbers at you?
- 14:23You got some Nuggets. Let's see, we have the same
- 14:25Nuggets. We probably have the same
- 14:27Nuggets. Let's try it.
- 14:29Well, let's let's recap his month of May.
- 14:31He was was it today, yesterday that it was announced that he
- 14:35was the player of the month, which everybody knew that was
- 14:37coming. Like even if you weren't
- 14:39thinking about it, if you had to guess, probably you're in judge
- 14:42over the month of May, a 371 average.
- 14:45He he had 14 bombs, 27 ribbies, had an on base of 488 slug 928
- 14:52and an OPS of 1415. In this giant series, arson
- 14:59judge, as it were, went six for 10, had three bombs, including a
- 15:05two Homer game. I think that was on Saturday,
- 15:10possibly Friday, Saturday. 6 ribbies and he even had two
- 15:13stolen bases. Yeah, since this is from Codify.
- 15:21Codify nobody has more home runs since April 27th than Aaron
- 15:26Judge because of course they don't.
- 15:29Also, nobody is has more hits, walks, runs, RBI or total bases
- 15:34since April 27th. And just one more nugget here
- 15:40for you related to that regarding the total bases.
- 15:42In the month of May, he had 85 total bases, which was 13 more
- 15:47than the next man in line, Jose Ramirez with 72.
- 15:50To put things into perspective because we can look at some of
- 15:53these names and go, wow, these guys.
- 15:56Not even if if I hadn't even mentioned how many total bases
- 16:00Aaron Judge had and you had to guess these names, you're
- 16:03probably going they're probably up there on the list because
- 16:06these guys are balling out right now.
- 16:07Corey Seeger 62. Bobby Witt, who's just been
- 16:12playing out of his mind 61. Rafael Devers, who is there for
- 16:17a stretch, was the hottest hitter on baseball 60 Brent
- 16:21Rooker, who took has been one of the the lone bright bright spots
- 16:26for the Oakland A's 59. Juan Soto, who will touch more
- 16:29on 59. Kyle Tucker, who's pushing for
- 16:35an MVP, names Yeah 58, and Bryce Harper, who was the National
- 16:40League Player of the Month, 56. And mullet judge again. 85 S the
- 16:46difference in total basis between your AL and NL players
- 16:50of the month 29 yeah yeah, he's Aaron judge is on another planet
- 16:57right now and there's. Been a lot of, and there's been
- 16:59Rd. trips. So like if anybody wants to sit
- 17:01back and just start claiming Yankee Stadium stuff, there's
- 17:04been a big mix of Rd. trips in here, specifically this long one
- 17:08through California and Petco and and and Oracle.
- 17:15We're both looking like regular fields that just didn't seem to
- 17:21matter. Which is just crazy because
- 17:23going back to your original one of your original points and
- 17:26saying that this is one of the most impressive season or months
- 17:30you've seen offensively maybe ever for him in in various
- 17:35statistical categories. I don't have the the complete
- 17:37list, but you can go back and look.
- 17:40He had the best calendar month of his career regarding OPS with
- 17:4450 plus plate appearances in May with a 1415.
- 17:47As I mentioned, his previous high was May of last year at
- 17:511356. So quite literally that that may
- 17:56have been based on how you want to, based on what statistics you
- 18:00want to use to prop up your case, we might be looking at
- 18:04Aaron Judge's best month all time of his career.
- 18:07And then that's crazy. We didn't have the same Nuggets,
- 18:09by the way. One's kind of close.
- 18:12Lay it on me, what else do you got?
- 18:14These are To be fair, we thought we were going to record last
- 18:19night, so I have screenshots of tweets that may be outdated at
- 18:24this point. They didn't play today, but I
- 18:26don't think this was including, maybe it was, I don't know,
- 18:31whatever. Bob Nightingale tweeted
- 18:35yesterday, two days ago, Aaron Judge with another Homer
- 18:39tonight, now has 278 career home runs in just 895 games.
- 18:46The quickest to 300 home runs. Sammy Sosa with 1052 games.
- 18:56Judge needs 22 more home runs to get to 300 and he's most likely
- 19:01going to do it in like 100 less games than Sammy Sosa.
- 19:06Nuts. Another nugget nugget chef.
- 19:10I mean, just a great account there.
- 19:12Oh, I think, I know. I think we got this one.
- 19:15You got this one. I think so.
- 19:17Aaron Judges 1544 OPS over his last 25 games is the third
- 19:24highest OPS by any player over a 20 game span in the last 15
- 19:30years, behind Christian Yelich at 1576 in Shohei Otani in 1549.
- 19:39Yelich did in 2018, Otani did in 2022.
- 19:43That's what I was talking about. Like this is legit one of the
- 19:46you know, that's one stat. That's just OPS, you know what
- 19:49I'm saying? Like this is absurd.
- 19:53And then my last nugget, which is easy home runs, is MLB ranks.
- 19:58Not just AL, MLB ranks. Home runs first, Slugging first,
- 20:04OPS first. WRC plus first Barrel percentage
- 20:09first. Hard hit percentage first Double
- 20:13S 2nd. Walk percentage 2nd.
- 20:17Is this this is on the season, not just May.
- 20:20This is the whole season. So when you're talking about the
- 20:24hole that he started in in April, that's what that's why I
- 20:27asked, 'cause I wow for him to in a month climb that list to
- 20:33not just be in the conversation to lead major categories.
- 20:40Again, Soto being a part of the picture.
- 20:45And there was a great segment on on MLB Now today, this morning.
- 20:51I got to give them credit. It was Harold Reynolds, it's
- 20:54obviously Ryan Kenny, and it was Bob Costas.
- 20:56And they talked about like, you're not a fan of some of
- 21:01these names. I wasn't a fan of some of these
- 21:03names. But when you're talking about
- 21:07Stroman, Verdugo, Soto being added to this lineup and being
- 21:13added to this clubhouse, it's completely changed.
- 21:17Like the personality, it's completely changed, like the,
- 21:21and you've made fun of it, like the dog mentality, but like
- 21:24it's, it's worked. It's it's flipped things around
- 21:28and it's helped. Like everything else on the
- 21:32roster has been pretty. I mean, that's pretty like they
- 21:35use the word stale. It's been a pretty stale roster
- 21:39until you enter in these guys. So a lot of credit goes to all
- 21:44of that. And like the everything that
- 21:46comes out of the guy's mouth is spot on.
- 21:48Everything that's Aaron Judge says is a captain is just spot
- 21:52on. And he just, he decides.
- 21:55He was quoted saying he was like, I just kind of feel it out
- 21:58each day. Like if, if Anthony Rizzo needs
- 22:01to be a leader that day, I sit back and let him be the leader
- 22:05and let him be the vocal one. If I let you know, if I I got to
- 22:10step in and be that voice. So it's like he's adopted this
- 22:14role. I it's hard to imagine a guy
- 22:18more comfortable. Man, it's it's fun to watch.
- 22:23Stop doing this to me. Don't make me like him.
- 22:26Don't make me like him. Crazy, but you meant every
- 22:28interview listen to in any behavior.
- 22:31I get it I get it. I understand I'm going to sound
- 22:34biased here. It's OK, and that's fine, and
- 22:36you can hate the Yankees all you want, but it's like he's he's on
- 22:42this trajectory of the respect that Derek Jeter just had
- 22:47widely. You can throw numbers at him,
- 22:51you can argue whether he was an overrated shortstop.
- 22:54You can argue all these numbers and, and, and argue against the
- 22:57Yankees and all that stuff. But when it comes down to it,
- 23:01the guy has respect from everybody.
- 23:04Aaron Judge is following that path.
- 23:06I. Hate to say it, but I I would
- 23:09hope that you would agree with me on this.
- 23:11I don't think he can say all the right things in the same fashion
- 23:16that Jeter did, but it's not going to matter until he wins a
- 23:19ring. Like the fact that the fact that
- 23:21he doesn't have one yet, that's alarming.
- 23:25But it's, and I, and I don't say that as a knock against the guy.
- 23:29It's well, I do, I do, but I don't.
- 23:32You get what you get where I'm coming from.
- 23:34But he there there won't be anything that he can do to put
- 23:39himself at at in that echelon, in that upper echelon that
- 23:43Jeter's in and really any other all time Yankee that you want to
- 23:48plug into that conversation until he joins them in the ring
- 23:52conversation. And he's not there yet and he's
- 23:54not even close to reaching the ring totals of some of those
- 23:57guys. But the fact that he doesn't
- 23:58have any, that's that's a little alarming.
- 24:01So. I'm at the point like I don't, I
- 24:03don't know what else it takes for this team to win a ring.
- 24:07You better, You better. Figure it out this year.
- 24:09This isn't it. Like, I don't know what it looks
- 24:11like and I may not witness it again for a while.
- 24:14If it doesn't happen with whatever is happening right now,
- 24:17whether it's this year or next year and they run it back with a
- 24:20carbon copy of the roster, I don't know.
- 24:22But it it's got to happen. The man's 32 like it's got to
- 24:26happen. Man, we're getting old.
- 24:29We're running out of time, yeah. Getting old.
- 24:34Let's let's switch gears here, talking about Aaron Judge being
- 24:38back. In that same vein, wanted to
- 24:42talk about maybe some other names that we would like to
- 24:46think are back after maybe a slow start or maybe coming off
- 24:51of a a slower end to last year or maybe you're finally getting
- 24:58back into the swing of things. I think the US Air Force is
- 25:03flying. Over and it's that it's that
- 25:05stupid St. Sweeper, you know, have you
- 25:08seen, do you have those out there?
- 25:10We got Yeah, I know what you're talking about.
- 25:12Looks like a big Zamboni or whatever.
- 25:15They got they. I tell you what man, they do
- 25:17some weird things at weird times at your place.
- 25:20So random. It's so random.
- 25:23Like landscaping in the middle of the like 100° day, like why
- 25:28not do that in the morning and then St. sweeping at dinner
- 25:31time. Like folks are just trying to
- 25:33enjoy a nice meal and the street sweepers are like, no, this is
- 25:36our time. What is this about man?
- 25:39It's hard to say what is this about.
- 25:41We got some clean streets though, let me tell you.
- 25:43Yeah. I mean, at at what cost though?
- 25:46I mean. Well I could tell you the exact
- 25:48cost cause HOA is absolutely bending us over so.
- 25:51Boom. Hate that.
- 25:54Speaking of bending over, let's talk about what your Don Alvarez
- 25:58has been doing to these pitchers recently, dude.
- 26:01And I'm glad we got, I'm glad we got pushed to tonight because
- 26:05sure. Lo, lo and behold, got another
- 26:08bomb update from Jordan Alvarez in fantasy.
- 26:12Glad I kept him as through some of the numbers I pulled through
- 26:18his first 60 games of the season.
- 26:21He he started off a little slow for his standards.
- 26:23He was still, he was, he still had the pop, but he wasn't.
- 26:27He wasn't spraying it around the field.
- 26:28He wasn't putting in the seats as at the clip that I would
- 26:32venture to say he would have been happy with.
- 26:35Through his first 40 games of the season, he was hitting 256.
- 26:40He had 40 hits with eight home runs, 21 ribbies, 23 runs
- 26:44scored. And again, that was in his first
- 26:4740 games of the season. His last.
- 26:49His 20 games after that he his average bumped up to 333.
- 26:55He had three home runs in that stretch and seven runs scored,
- 27:00five ribbies, seven runs scored. So nearly like was halfway to
- 27:05his home run total from the previous 40 games of the season
- 27:08in half that time thereafter. So starting to starting to pick
- 27:14things up and then you can tackle, you can say he's halfway
- 27:17to his home run total from that 40 game stretch now officially
- 27:21now that he's he's locked another one tonight.
- 27:23So the thing that I think is is leading to this success, his
- 27:34strikeout rate is down from last year, however, his walk
- 27:41percentages as well. So I think for your Don, if he
- 27:47can get that walk rate back up, if he can start seeing more
- 27:51pitches, if he can start seeing it deeper into the count, into
- 27:54counts, I think you're going to start seeing 'cause you, 'cause
- 27:58you, you very well know if you're able to get deeper into
- 28:01counts, you're able to foul some balls off you.
- 28:04You as a hitter are at the advantage because you're seeing
- 28:07more and more of what the pitcher has and that giving it
- 28:10back. And your Don is not going to be
- 28:13somebody that's going to shy away from taking full advantage
- 28:16of that advantage. So I think if he can get that,
- 28:18that walk percentage up, if he can start seeing some more
- 28:21pitches, I think he'll be much better off.
- 28:24And the, the other thing to keep in mind with Yordan is his May
- 28:29versus June splits, regardless of whether or not that walk
- 28:33percentage comes back up. I I think we can sit back and
- 28:36and just settle in for the month of Yordan because career wise
- 28:42for Yordan, from May to June, his average jumps from 285 to
- 28:473:31, his slug jumps from 5:26 to 684, and his OPS jumps from
- 28:54890 to 11160. My gosh.
- 29:00And as somebody that loves month to month splits, I've said that
- 29:04many times on here before, that makes me really excited.
- 29:08Yeah, as his fantasy manager. So I'm I'm really thrilled
- 29:13about. It's a good get.
- 29:15It's a good get. I'm thrilled about what's to
- 29:17come for your Don. Yeah, and, and talk about the
- 29:20rest of that lineup, like Kyle Tucker, as you mentioned before
- 29:23entering, you know, MVP conversations, it seems to me
- 29:28that Bregman has started to turn things around, started to get a
- 29:31little bit hot. So like the better that lineup
- 29:33gets, it's it's it's makes things even more challenging
- 29:38anyone else. So anyone opposing them is in
- 29:42trouble. You want to alternate.
- 29:44Yeah, who? Who do you got?
- 29:45Who's the batter you think is heating up?
- 29:48Yeah, give me, give me one of your favorite players based on
- 29:51what you're wearing. Give me Brent Roker, dude, boom.
- 29:55Give me Brent Roker. And the tough thing is that
- 29:59like, it's I, I can't go as deep.
- 30:01I don't think there's enough sample size considering last
- 30:04year was his rookie year. So it's like it's hard to just
- 30:06get into, you know, what his career month numbers are, but
- 30:12just looking in the month of on on I believe RotoWire or stat
- 30:22stat muse, one of the two. I can't remember what I was
- 30:25using today. They do like a split where you
- 30:27could just automatically grab March and April.
- 30:30So which is stupid. We've already had that argument,
- 30:34so I'm not going to pull up that thread.
- 30:36March and April 20 games hit two O 6 in May 26 games hit 335 home
- 30:49runs to six home runs in May, a climb of 13 RBIs to 22 RBIs.
- 30:56Here's the big jump though. OPS jumps from 769 in March and
- 31:03April all the way to 997 in May K rate drops from 40% to 29% in
- 31:13May WRC plus jumps from 1:23 to 186.
- 31:21I was like, what's going on? How does this happen?
- 31:24You know what I mean? How does my guy just get it
- 31:27going? And again, he's young and he's
- 31:29playing for a lifeless organization.
- 31:31So it's like you can't blame the guy for a slow start.
- 31:36But he came onto the scene last year and I think everyone was
- 31:38kind of waiting was like, is this guy real?
- 31:41You know what I mean? And you see him turn it on in
- 31:44May and you're like, he's back. He's in that conversation again.
- 31:48And obviously, like the lone bride, you know, star over
- 31:51there. But I figured out what it was.
- 31:54And it it seemed to me like he was just not great timing wise.
- 31:58And you probably just like, duh, yeah, obviously he's going to be
- 32:02not great with timing, but the pull percentage, that's where I
- 32:05found the biggest jump. March and April, he was only
- 32:10pulling the ball 24% of the time in May, 55% of the time.
- 32:17So my man started to get the barrel going, started
- 32:20recognizing stuff and probably understood that the way he was
- 32:24getting attacked. And and that's what good hitters
- 32:26do. They figure out how to like, go
- 32:29find that hole that pitchers have discovered and start
- 32:32covering it. So Brent Roker, I I think the
- 32:39A's got got something cooking, man.
- 32:41And I like it's going to take some time.
- 32:44This is probably similar to what you've been saying about the
- 32:46nationals last few years. But like, I think they, they got
- 32:50some stuff. If they really hold strong on
- 32:54Brett Roker, they really hold strong on Mason Miller and like
- 32:58start building around these names.
- 33:01You can see something. The tall ask.
- 33:04It is a tall. Ask.
- 33:07It's not a tall ask, however, to wonder whether or not Max Freed
- 33:12is back because he is Max Freed on the season five and two with
- 33:16Adra of 297. However, his K per nine rate is
- 33:20at the lowest it's ever been in his career at 7.3.
- 33:25However, his last four starts have been excellent.
- 33:31His last four starts, he's rocking a an ERA of 127.
- 33:35He's only allowed four earned runs over 28 and a third in that
- 33:39span. He's had outings of eight and
- 33:41nine innings pitched and has 22 total K's.
- 33:46My goodness. His exit V low and hard hit
- 33:48percentage are down from last season.
- 33:50I, I want to say his exit V low is in the 99th percentile right
- 33:54now. He is, he's utilizing his sinker
- 33:58more, relying on his curveball less, which I feel like, I mean,
- 34:03I could just be pulling this out of thin air, but I, I feel like
- 34:07sinker usage has been something talked about very heavily over
- 34:13these two months of the season. I don't know if there if that's
- 34:15becoming more of a trend amongst these top arms, but I, I feel
- 34:21like I keep hearing sinker a lot more.
- 34:23And they're even as we've talked about with the the splinter,
- 34:27they're they're pivoting off of the sinker itself to, to figure
- 34:32out different ways to, to alter movement or velocity with that
- 34:36pitch. So I don't know, maybe this
- 34:38maybe the sinker's becoming more of a more of a commonplace pitch
- 34:44for these some of these arsenals.
- 34:47Additionally, his ground ball rate is the second higher
- 34:50highest it's ever been. So it sounds like as as Max
- 34:57Freed with every day of his age that passes, is finding new ways
- 35:02to adapt, new ways to adjust. And he is he's making it work.
- 35:07He is playing for a contract too, playing for a contract.
- 35:10And he, it's, it's, he's looking good doing it right now.
- 35:15I mean, his, like I said, these last four starts have been very
- 35:19impressive. And it's what I said, you go
- 35:22back to his, I'd want to say it was ACG against Miami where I
- 35:26was like, you know, this is great 'cause he, he stumbled out
- 35:29of the gate there early in the season.
- 35:30But I said, you know, give him, give him this start to build off
- 35:34of this, this CG and you know, it, it's hard to put too much
- 35:39stock into it because it's the Marlins.
- 35:40And as we know, Marlins are an unserious franchise, but we said
- 35:46just sit tight, see how he rebounds from this this slow
- 35:50start. And he's he's hitting every,
- 35:53every stride that we would expect him to at this point.
- 35:55So. I love that subtle jab, too.
- 35:59I think we just need to start saying unserious franchise.
- 36:03I love that it's sophisticated, but it's also a jab, so I
- 36:07appreciate that. That's the Marlins for you.
- 36:09I wonder where you go is man, I'm really curious because like
- 36:14I, I don't know what it is and, and Braves fans get in the chat
- 36:17and let me know. It just doesn't feel like
- 36:20Atlanta wants him back. It just doesn't.
- 36:23I don't get that sense. And I don't know if he, if the
- 36:27way he plays forces their hand, but I, I just, it's hard to say.
- 36:34I, I don't know if maybe a, a just has this like mentality if
- 36:39I will find this production. Look at what Chris Sale's doing
- 36:42and maybe he's just like, I will find this production elsewhere
- 36:45without giving you that bag. Yeah, but they're playing,
- 36:48they're playing with fire in that regard.
- 36:49Like even with Chris Sale, I don't know if that's the guy you
- 36:52want to point to and be like, I can find Max Reed, Max Reed
- 36:56production elsewhere because Chris Sale is a walk across the
- 36:59street away from being out for the rest of the season.
- 37:01So for. Sure, I'm not saying Chris Sale
- 37:04is the guy you know is moving forward, but I just I'm curious
- 37:07to see if if how this progresses and like as good as he's doing.
- 37:17I don't know if the Braves, especially down Akunya,
- 37:20especially down Strider can go win this division.
- 37:25So it's like, do you do you bring him back after what is
- 37:31most likely going to be a wild card appearance, losing momentum
- 37:36on a deep run? I know it's just May or just
- 37:38June, but like, I don't know, it's so weird to see how that's
- 37:41going to play out. And I think dude's going to get
- 37:45some some money, so. Yeah, but I want to put it past
- 37:49the Braves to to figure out something.
- 37:50They're they're Wizards when it comes.
- 37:52To I kind of want them to say. I kind of want them to say
- 37:55because like you like it. It's weird to just have like
- 37:58that piece of the core go away. So yeah, who do you got, my guy?
- 38:05I'm going with one of my fantasy men.
- 38:09That sounded weird. It sounded real weird.
- 38:13Yeah, Let's, let's, let's you know, let's.
- 38:22Sorry, Sorry. It had to be done.
- 38:28Had to be done. Sorry.
- 38:30It's just a crazy, I mean full confidence just rolled right
- 38:36into it. One of my fantasy men came out
- 38:40way too smooth. One of the players that
- 38:43represents the Dodgers pitching on my fantasy team, Gavin Stone.
- 38:51I I was a huge benefit of Mr. Bobby Miller last year, a a free
- 38:59agent pick up early in the season, Gavin Stone.
- 39:07I had this feeling, I don't know what it was, but I was like
- 39:10something about the Dodgers and young pitching is going to make
- 39:13this happen. And I was close to dropping
- 39:15them. March and April, five starts,
- 39:18which is great. This is perfect because he made
- 39:20five starts, then made five starts in May.
- 39:23It's a very easy sample size to compare.
- 39:25Had a 468 ERA in May 197 144 whip dropping down to a one O
- 39:36whip. Hard hit percentage takes a big
- 39:39dip at 32%. March and April drops down to
- 39:4218% and the K to walk percentage jumps from 5 1/2 to 14 1/2.
- 39:52So my man has started to figure out this the, the swing and miss
- 39:57stuff and batting average against drops from 2:53 to 2:27
- 40:01in the month of May. So heck of a month.
- 40:05Something that like is when you see a young guy figure things
- 40:09out, like maybe you get punched in the face.
- 40:11We're we're seeing names that are like being sent down and,
- 40:15and going back to AAA to cook some more.
- 40:19And so it's, I don't know what it is about like the just Major
- 40:24League Baseball right now of like not wanting to send young
- 40:26guys back down. And I was worried about Gavin
- 40:30Stone. So I was like, I wonder if the
- 40:33Dodgers are doing that or they're just fitting into the
- 40:35mold of scared teams that are aren't wanting to take that dip.
- 40:39So but look at him figure it out, man.
- 40:42Five starts in May and did it did really good.
- 40:45So curious to see if he can keep it rolling.
- 40:48But I like the young kid. It's fun to watch.
- 40:53I love it honestly. I based based on what you're
- 40:56telling me that pretty much lines up with, I hate to say my
- 41:00interest in Gavin Stone, but those numbers that you shared
- 41:04from from early or early on, I was kind of interested to see
- 41:09how this year would pan out for him, but then he he started
- 41:11slipping. I was like, I feel like I need
- 41:13to look elsewhere for some young arms to latch on too.
- 41:17But it from what you tell me, it seems like need to be checking
- 41:21out some some Gavin Stone starts moving forward.
- 41:24Yeah, I recommend it. Glad to hear it.
- 41:26Glad to hear it for the the lad. Any other notes there on on guys
- 41:32we think are back 'cause we got a we got a topic here that I
- 41:35didn't foresee covering, but last night made for quite a
- 41:39story so wanted to give you a chance to wrap up anything
- 41:42before we move on. This is just keep an eye out on
- 41:45some of those other teams, man. It doesn't have to be the the
- 41:49big dogs. The A's got some some dudes to
- 41:51watch. It's just there's good names all
- 41:54around the league that you got to just keep an eye out for.
- 41:59I'm about it. Let's talk about, you know, you
- 42:04know, Speaking of keeping an eye out, do we need to keep an eye
- 42:08out for Tommy Pham? Like if we talk about him right
- 42:11now, is he going to show up at our door ready to dismantle?
- 42:18Ready to dismantle our. Our faces.
- 42:20This is a make my Day stay. So let's go.
- 42:22Tommy. Pham, I'm knocking my door.
- 42:25I'm just kidding, I. Don't know.
- 42:29Are you Tommy Pham dude, once again, make it.
- 42:33I saw I saw a comment today that perfectly summarized Tommy
- 42:37Pham's career. I feel like is 80% of Tommy Pham
- 42:41headlines are related to things that have nothing to do with
- 42:44actually playing the game of baseball.
- 42:47And that's that's pretty much accurate.
- 42:49And and I know a play at the plate is what sparked all this.
- 42:53So it's sort of right, sort of not, but you get you get what
- 42:56we're saying here. The Tommy Pham incident with
- 43:01William Contreras, like what are we?
- 43:07There's so many. I feel like there's so many
- 43:08things on pack here. If you didn't see the play, pull
- 43:12it up. You'll you'll see what we're
- 43:13talking about. Play at the plate.
- 43:16He gets hosed at the plate. There's a a ball.
- 43:18It's not even close. Yelich, it was Yelich, right?
- 43:21Yelich throws it in, hoses him at at the plate, the route he
- 43:26took. That's the biggest thing for me.
- 43:30What do we talk? You can't run to the pitcher's
- 43:35mound on your way home. That's bet he was halfway there.
- 43:39Yeah. Like I, I got AII saw a
- 43:42screenshot of the feed from the camera down the left field line,
- 43:48and it was it was that view. Yeah, dude, it was.
- 43:51It was just. Absurd.
- 43:53Like outside of the third baseman?
- 43:55Almost. I gotta I gotta send this to you
- 43:58this. You need to see this.
- 44:00It was insane and I'm going water.
- 44:04Is this is this what they're teaching, teaching the guys in
- 44:10the league now, because this is not what what we were taught.
- 44:14I mean, I get, I get what he's going after, but I mean, you
- 44:17look at that. My goodness, dude.
- 44:19I mean, it's terrible, yeah. It gets hosed at the plate, gets
- 44:26up. William Contreras is, as you
- 44:29would expect, pumped after play at the plate, which I I feel
- 44:32like wasn't wasn't really addressed enough, wasn't really
- 44:35talked about enough. Like, I don't care if I, I, I
- 44:38think Tommy Pham took issue with the fact that he was getting he
- 44:41was pumped because because the, the play was so like it was so
- 44:50it was clear as day that he was out.
- 44:51Like he beat him by like half the, the length of the base
- 44:55path. I think William Contreras is
- 44:59probably just pumped it, you know, any play to play.
- 45:01I don't care if it's he's out by a mile or it's bang, bang play.
- 45:04Any play to play. That's a big deal.
- 45:05That's one of the more exciting plays in baseball.
- 45:09But Tommy Pham took exception to it.
- 45:10And we've got I've got the audio here queued up from his presser
- 45:17after the fact, and here it is. One run ball game, close play at
- 45:25the plate, and I actually wasn't even fucking close.
- 45:29There's a shallow fly ball to left field you.
- 45:31You would expect the left fielder to throw the base runner
- 45:34out on that play. But the situation of the game,
- 45:38you know, like third base coach sends you, you got to go.
- 45:43I'm I'm nailed out at at home by a mile.
- 45:47I'm I'm going to the dugout and then, you know, I hear the tough
- 45:51guy with all the hoorah shit, you know, so I'll never start
- 45:56anything, but I'll be prepared to finish it.
- 45:59There's a reason why, you know, I do all kinds of fighting in
- 46:02the offseason because I'm prepared to fuck somebody up.
- 46:05So you can take it as what it is.
- 46:12Easy, Tommy Pham. It's a It's a family.
- 46:15Show on dude yeah, thanks. I'll probably have to flag the
- 46:18episode now. Tommy, we do we make every
- 46:21effort to keep this a family program and you're out here just
- 46:23ruining it for everybody Apologize apologize for for the
- 46:28language. But you know, I'm not surprised.
- 46:32And I think I think the narrative after this incident
- 46:37has it has been for just about every other Tommy Fam incident,
- 46:39is that he just comes across as a fake tough guy.
- 46:43And I'm not gonna sit here and say that he is with certainty,
- 46:46but it's just the way in which he he talks about it just gives
- 46:51off the vibe of like, all right, dude, like how many times you
- 46:54gonna say it? The instance in which you did
- 46:58get physical, it was a slap. So what are we?
- 47:01What are we really supposed to take from that?
- 47:03Excellent point, excellent point.
- 47:05Maybe that's why he got into like fighting classes in the
- 47:10offseason was after the slap. That's a great point.
- 47:13That's a great point. Because it's like what a what a
- 47:16my guy. He's like, I can't be
- 47:18embarrassing myself like this. I know.
- 47:20So that, I mean, look, you mentioned the angle like I have
- 47:25no problem with Will and Contreras being like you clearly
- 47:29were coming at me there. You're 6 feet inside the
- 47:33baseline and you're obviously like seeking contact.
- 47:36I'm going to eat that and flex on you all day.
- 47:40I'm totally fine with that. And I'm actually a big fan of
- 47:43like whatever attitude he's bringing to the Brewers.
- 47:47I don't understand the I never understand the chirping while
- 47:56I'm working backwards towards my team mates.
- 48:00Hold me back, hold me back and I'm just going to keep leaning
- 48:04back away from you. It's so, I'm so sick of it.
- 48:09I'm so sick of benches clearing when nothing happens.
- 48:13Make it real for me. Make this the NHL.
- 48:16Let it eat. Just get after each other.
- 48:21And then the shadow boxing as he's watching that, that really,
- 48:25that really tipped me over the edge.
- 48:28The shadow. Yeah,
- 48:41ridiculous. Who are you?
- 48:42Trying to impress Tommy Pham. What was?
- 48:45That the guy's delusional. The guy's absolutely delusional.
- 48:48What's crazy is that we keep hearing reports of like how good
- 48:51of a teammate he is too I. Don't.
- 48:54I don't. Get it?
- 48:55I don't get that. I'll be first.
- 48:57I'll be the first to acknowledge I'm probably the major.
- 49:00League, it's probably the guy you love to play with but hate
- 49:03to play against. I I could understand that after
- 49:07like maybe the first or second incident, you're like, OK, maybe
- 49:10there's just more to this guy that we don't really know, but
- 49:13it's the same thing every time. It's like the like he, I mean,
- 49:19we don't need to play it again. But if you go back and listen to
- 49:21that audio from the post game presser, it sounds like pouty,
- 49:24like at the end when he, when he's talking about like this is
- 49:28what it is, man, check it that what you will like.
- 49:31He just sounds like pouty and just like constantly angry and
- 49:35just looking and, and I get it, man.
- 49:36People, people have different life, life stories than me.
- 49:41And like they, you know, search upbringings can, can, can lead
- 49:45you to have that kind of mentality.
- 49:47So I, I get that from that point of view, but from a baseball
- 49:52perspective, if you consistently talk about how you're this guy
- 49:56that can just end somebody's career, end somebody's life from
- 50:00all these classes that you're taking, then like one of these
- 50:04instances, maybe let that show. If that's what you're truly
- 50:09about, if that's what you've made your identity to be, then
- 50:13let it show, because otherwise it's just all talk.
- 50:17I agree I. Agree.
- 50:18For the record, I'm not volunteering to be confronted by
- 50:22Tommy Pham. I'm not saying that, I'm just.
- 50:25I'm I'm he would he would kick my ass absolutely for.
- 50:29Sure. Can we, we, we've, we've talked
- 50:35about the the play itself. Can we talk about the call?
- 50:37Did you by chance hear the call? No, dude, you didn't hear.
- 50:42So OK. Oh, this is this would be good.
- 50:44So the White Sox announcer, I don't even remember the guy's
- 50:47name. I looked it up today and already
- 50:48forgot. Probably for good reason.
- 50:50The guy stinks tough. Remember earlier this year where
- 50:55it was the IT was the walk off? I want to say it was a Gavin
- 50:58Cheats walk off. And he said he's like for all
- 51:03the haters, the second time, like for the first time all
- 51:07season, the White Sox have won two in a row.
- 51:09We talked about this. You remember this and he's like
- 51:12Southside stand up. You remember?
- 51:14You remember that? Yeah.
- 51:17OK, so it's the same guy and the guy, the guy stinks, but we need
- 51:21to, we need to run through that call because it was please.
- 51:25Please. Here's the threat to the play
- 51:28and he's out and Contreras is barking at him.
- 51:35Tommy Pham barking back. He's not backing down.
- 51:39He doesn't like that. And now home plate umpire Edwin
- 51:42Jimenez has to hold back Pham. Nah, we ain't taking that.
- 51:48We ain't taking that from the Brewers.
- 51:51I don't care how many LS we got this year, we ain't taking that.
- 52:02That's basically it. That's the cringiest thing I've
- 52:05ever. Are you kidding me?
- 52:07I saw a tweet today that said it sounded like like a drunken frat
- 52:11bro. Yeah, trying to like.
- 52:14We ain't taking that. Throw hands with somebody.
- 52:18How old are you? I don't understand that.
- 52:21I don't understand that dude. Like I've I've listened to a lot
- 52:24of baseball and like I understand being slightly biased
- 52:28towards your team. I understand like a local guy
- 52:31being a rooting for your team. That was not not good.
- 52:40Like that's just bad, bad broadcasting.
- 52:44That's tough. That's a real tough look.
- 52:47There's a whole lot wrong going on in in Chicago.
- 52:50We ain't taking that from the Brook Stop, man.
- 52:54You are, you are. You're taking it from everybody.
- 52:58Every day, taking it from everybody, the.
- 53:00Whole season, you're taking it from everyone.
- 53:03Everyone gets the right to bark at you.
- 53:06Was it 11 straight now? Are they even playing tonight?
- 53:09Probably miserable. They probably hope they're
- 53:12they're off. And here's The thing is that
- 53:14Tommy Pham's going to make us eat our words.
- 53:16He's going to get traded. He's going to go play for a
- 53:19contenders, a lot of rumblings about the Braves, and he's
- 53:22probably going to have some great postseason performance.
- 53:25And there's nothing wrong with that.
- 53:26He's a good ball player and he dominates lefties.
- 53:29And you know, sometimes he need a tough guy in that clubhouse.
- 53:34But like, it's just a reoccurring theme here.
- 53:39Yeah, I agree, Andrew. I agree.
- 53:44Andrew says as much as I dislike Fam, I feel like deep down he'll
- 53:47be a brave after the trade deadline and lead us back to the
- 53:49World Series. Yeah, that would be that.
- 53:52It's just, it's one of the. Ironic.
- 53:53Yeah, it's one of those guys that you just truly deep down
- 53:58don't really want to see see succeed.
- 54:00But they just, they not only do they find success, they just go
- 54:04on to have these moments where it's like, all right, well,
- 54:06sick. There's nothing I can really say
- 54:08to that. So.
- 54:08Right. And that's kind of kind of where
- 54:12we're at. Kind of where we're at, Yeah,
- 54:14just a just a mess, man. But that.
- 54:18But you said it best. The the White Sox are taking it
- 54:20from everybody. So I mean, what?
- 54:25I didn't care. That's a It's a miserable
- 54:27franchise to watch. They're on.
- 54:28Pace to be one of the worst of. All time I I think I'd rather
- 54:31watch the Marlins. I really would.
- 54:35I think they're actually on pace to.
- 54:37I'd rather watch Pace the Ace. I'd rather watch the Rockies.
- 54:40I'd I would rather watch any other team than the White Sox.
- 54:44Yeah, it's crazy, crazy, unreal. Unreal.
- 54:54Good stuff, though. Good stuff.
- 54:56I know you got to get out of here.
- 54:58We'll keep it quick here, though.
- 55:00Blake Snell back to the IL. Yeah.
- 55:04Can I, can I just ask you a question?
- 55:06Yeah, friend to friend here. Should I, Should I drop Blake's
- 55:13now from the fantasy squad? I, I yeah, I do.
- 55:17I mean, is it worth even holding out hope for?
- 55:19Maybe a bounce back later in the year.
- 55:21I don't see it, man. I don't see it.
- 55:24There's so many. This is such an unfortunate
- 55:27thing 'cause like I've never root for a guy's like demise or
- 55:30downfall, but like there were so many people saying this and it
- 55:37was obvious when we watch free agency, it was it was smacked us
- 55:42right in the face that there wasn't a ball club that was
- 55:45willing to meet his slash. Scott, Boris's ask.
- 55:50We saw this, everyone saw this and I think fans were like, Nah,
- 55:54that's crazy. Got to give the NL Cy Young his
- 55:58money. The this is what we've seen a
- 56:03lot of his career. This has happened a lot of times
- 56:06like this. I mean, not not this bad dude.
- 56:09I know the injuries and like, I know that's a factor and I know
- 56:13missing spring training is a huge factor.
- 56:15And that's kind of your, your own camp's fault, by the way.
- 56:18Like I, I don't think we're, we could just sit here and be like,
- 56:20oh, poor Blake Snell. And like you and your camp
- 56:23decided to to not pull the trigger on a lot of teams,
- 56:28including the Yankees, who made a bigger offer than what he
- 56:31ended up getting. It's just nuts.
- 56:36When I was watching the other day, I, it was on his 99th pitch
- 56:39and it was in the middle of an at bat.
- 56:41And it was kind of a big moment in the game.
- 56:44I think the Yanks were down like 3-1 or something like that.
- 56:48And, and he like tweaked the back and I was like, really?
- 56:51So like, this was going to be his last hitter.
- 56:53It's 100 pitches. There was a guy in the bullpen
- 56:55trying to get hot. And I was like, now he walks off
- 56:58in this, you know, the next guy gets as much as he wants to warm
- 57:02up. And I thought that was, I
- 57:03thought that's what it was. I really thought it.
- 57:05And then the IL stint and I'm like, Dang, this is.
- 57:09No, he at that point, I think he had given up three because I
- 57:14kept, I kept seeing a lot of a lot of people talking about how
- 57:18that was somehow one of the best starts he's had this season of
- 57:22the I think 6 starts he's had, which like 3, you know, three
- 57:28runs given up over I think he was into the sixth maybe.
- 57:33Yeah, I think he got. It that's not, that's not
- 57:35terrible by any stretch, but for you to sit there and say like
- 57:37that's his best start of the season, yeah, that's true Cy
- 57:41Young season. That's that's indicative of of
- 57:44just his current situation. Where?
- 57:47Where? Soto Gotcha.
- 57:48Like yeah, deep too. Soto went over triples Alley
- 57:55left on left. Unreal.
- 57:59Unreal. Yeah, I would drop them.
- 58:02I would. I think I may have to, even
- 58:04though you're probably going to come in and scoop them up.
- 58:06I. Won't and stash.
- 58:07I should that's right that's right that's right.
- 58:11Spencer Torkelson talking about being dropped, sent down to AAA
- 58:20to hopefully figure this thing out.
- 58:23It was funny. It's.
- 58:24OK, I'm OK with it. Yeah, yeah, for sure.
- 58:27Former number number one overall pick in the 2020 draft.
- 58:32I did, I did. I saw a video which I had never
- 58:37seen before. And honestly, I was sitting
- 58:39there thinking I was like, you know, as as time passes, we're
- 58:42going to start seeing more of this.
- 58:44As I saw a clip of him, I I want to say it was from like a
- 58:50perfect game thing or, you know, showcase.
- 58:54Yeah, well, yeah, but it was more of like just like a a
- 58:58standard highlight reel. It looked like it was just him
- 59:00taking swings. I don't think it was in a game.
- 59:03But I'm sitting there thinking like, you know, as more time
- 59:05passes, then the more video and, and things that are being taken
- 59:09to these guys as they come up, like we're going to be able to
- 59:11reference these earlier videos a lot more than we used to be able
- 59:15to back in the day. But anyway, it was it was a
- 59:19video of him taking the hacks and the, the the poster or the
- 59:27the person that tweeted the video says something to the
- 59:31effect of I wish I could have seen.
- 59:34I wish I could have figured this out then what we know now.
- 59:38And it was something to the effect of it's just, it's a a
- 59:44pretty unathletic kid that just was able just figured out how to
- 59:49mash. And if if you go back and look
- 59:50at this video and I, I get it, he's like, I want to say he was
- 59:5412 or 14 in the video. But if you go back and look,
- 59:57you're like that looks like that looks like the kid you played in
- 1:00:03like coach pitch with. And you're like, he's probably
- 1:00:05not going to amount to anything. But somehow he figured out a way
- 1:00:08to make it work and become a number one overall pick.
- 1:00:10But it just makes you wonder, like, is there was there like a
- 1:00:14learned mashing there with with Spencer Torkelson?
- 1:00:19That's that somehow maybe has been lost a little bit as of
- 1:00:22late and he's struggling to to recapture.
- 1:00:25That yeah, it's definitely a confidence issue too, because I
- 1:00:28mean, like it when he first came up like this is a hopeless
- 1:00:32Tigers team, you know what I mean?
- 1:00:34Like there's it's not a whole lot going on.
- 1:00:37It doesn't seem like there's much hype and it's like you're
- 1:00:40making that transition over from 3rd to 1st, but you're also in
- 1:00:44this weird spot where like Miguel Cabrera is still here.
- 1:00:47It it was a hard way to come up and like just sit and it was a
- 1:00:52hard way to like not get consistent normal ABS.
- 1:00:57I I think like we're he, we got to remember they still young.
- 1:01:01So I'm not I'm not like overreacting here.
- 1:01:04I think it's a good thing that he's going down.
- 1:01:06I like that he's going to get more time any of my like hitting
- 1:01:10nerds out there. I would expect him to to
- 1:01:12probably spread out a little bit, get into his legs a little
- 1:01:15bit and I could see the hands getting lower a little bit.
- 1:01:18He's really like quick. He's like, you know, that that
- 1:01:21down angle, like get it back spin, but he's very in and out
- 1:01:25of the zone. I think you're going to see that
- 1:01:27swing kind of like flatten out if he does find success.
- 1:01:30And that was like Jose Abreu's issue, right?
- 1:01:33Like not a lot of launch angle in and out of the zone gets sent
- 1:01:37down. It seems like he's starting to
- 1:01:39come around, but like flatting out a little bit, getting, you
- 1:01:42know, a little more barrel lag. So I think that's probably going
- 1:01:46to happen for him if he does find success, which I hope he
- 1:01:49does because the dude can't hit. And I'm I'm I'm liking what the
- 1:01:54tigers are like putting together.
- 1:01:55So hope he finds success. Hope he's back and it's nothing
- 1:02:00crazy. Yeah, I mean, Javi Baez even put
- 1:02:04the nail the coffin of the Red Sox over the weekend.
- 1:02:08So, you know, maybe things are looking up for the Tiger.
- 1:02:11So would like Spencer Torkelson to be a part.
- 1:02:14Of that and I hope that conversation was just like,
- 1:02:16dude, go get right, get back here.
- 1:02:18Get back here as soon as you can.
- 1:02:20Yeah, that I hope that that's what it was.
- 1:02:23So I hope he takes it that way. Any thoughts on this betting
- 1:02:28scandal before we get out of here?
- 1:02:31I didn't really know what to take of it.
- 1:02:33I don't know, I. Didn't know who that was, did
- 1:02:34you? Tukapita Marcano.
- 1:02:38I know I'm not. I know I'm butchering that too.
- 1:02:42Tusa pita? Never heard of her.
- 1:02:44Tukapita. Adios, good luck.
- 1:02:47Marcano, facing a potential lifetime ban for betting on
- 1:02:51baseball after the MLB received info that he wagered on games
- 1:02:55involving the Pittsburgh Pirates when he was with the team last
- 1:02:58year, has yet to be formally penalized.
- 1:03:03I hate it. This is all according to the to
- 1:03:06ESPN has yet to be formally penalized.
- 1:03:09I thought he got the life life sentence or life not sentence
- 1:03:12but lifetime ban. Yeah, he's dead.
- 1:03:14They're going to shoot him. They're going to show up to his
- 1:03:17door and they're going. To shoot him, it's possible.
- 1:03:21They're going to literally just right to the Dome on his front
- 1:03:27porch. I think I saw on that update
- 1:03:29too, there's like three or four more names.
- 1:03:31Yeah, there's. What is it here?
- 1:03:34We didn't get the names, but four other minor.
- 1:03:36Leaguers facing potential discipline as well for gambling.
- 1:03:43It's crazy, man, That's crazy. Rule 20 MLB Rule 21 explicitly
- 1:03:48states that a player who bets on games involving his own team is
- 1:03:50subject to a lifetime ban. Oh, this is important.
- 1:03:55I think we're officially in that generation that doesn't know who
- 1:03:57Pete Rose is. I think we're officially there
- 1:04:00like kids that are like, I don't never heard of them.
- 1:04:02I don't know who Pete Rose is. They've probably never even
- 1:04:05heard that story. Yeah, yeah, they're probably,
- 1:04:09they're probably hearing about Tucapita Marcano going, oh man,
- 1:04:13this has never happened. Well.
- 1:04:16Especially guys that like, maybe not Americans that didn't like,
- 1:04:18grow up, like hearing that name as a kid, you know?
- 1:04:22Yeah, like I I bet these people don't even know.
- 1:04:26Scary. Apparently he was on the IL when
- 1:04:30he was placing the bets. Sure, why not?
- 1:04:33What else we got going on? Kick back, hang out, throw some
- 1:04:38bets out there chilling on the couch.
- 1:04:40It's tough, man. If anything if if he if he
- 1:04:45ceases living, just know that Manfred was the was the one who
- 1:04:50pulled the trigger. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:04:55Pete Rose has a real, real big opportunity here.
- 1:04:58If this, if these names were bigger, Pete Rose would have a
- 1:05:02real big opportunity. How is David Fletcher still
- 1:05:05allowed to do do what he's doing?
- 1:05:08Have they not shot him yet? I'm confused.
- 1:05:11I'm confused as like his name came out in the Ohtani report
- 1:05:15and he's still just throwing knuckleballs AAA.
- 1:05:19Well, I think what's going to happen is first they have to
- 1:05:22take care of E pay. So they're probably going to put
- 1:05:25him in a jail cell, shoot him there.
- 1:05:28And then once they take care of that, once you forget about him,
- 1:05:31then they're going to move to David Fletcher, probably out in
- 1:05:34a field somewhere. Just take him out.
- 1:05:36Just bury him right there with that headstone.
- 1:05:38And then, then, then 2222 Capita Marcano take him out, right on
- 1:05:45his front porch, right on his doorstep.
- 1:05:48Sad man Just sad. It's a tough story.
- 1:05:55This is Manford World now. That's how he that's how he
- 1:05:59handles his business. He got tired of hearing about
- 1:06:01all how lightly he took it on teams like the Astros and and
- 1:06:05whatnot, he said. All right, you know what?
- 1:06:07I'm going to take it to the other end of the extreme.
- 1:06:10Yep. Oh well.
- 1:06:13It's going to show up to show up in a mask.
- 1:06:17Take these guys up, all right? That's all we got.
- 1:06:23Try to keep it quick, but yeah, you know how that goes.
- 1:06:26Yeah, last thing I randomly found out I have Tyler Rogers
- 1:06:31number in my contacts. Did I tell you this before?
- 1:06:36You have never once mentioned that.
- 1:06:37No idea. I was like scrolling through,
- 1:06:40you know, you get like the suggested friends from your
- 1:06:42contacts on my social media. Tyler Rogers pops up and it's
- 1:06:46like he's in a Giants uniform and he's like got his arm around
- 1:06:50his twin brother in like a minor league uniform.
- 1:06:52They're from Colorado. But it comes up as suggested and
- 1:06:55I'm like, OK, so then I like go to my phone and look it up and I
- 1:06:59got his number and I'm like, how did we did we play together at
- 1:07:03some point? Like how did this so weird?
- 1:07:08Not Trevors. I don't have Trevors, but I do
- 1:07:10have Tyler's. Who's the righty from
- 1:07:13underneath? Well, I mean, if you really want
- 1:07:15to get a hold of Trevor, I'm sure you can just reach out to
- 1:07:17Tyler I. Mean.
- 1:07:18That's super weird. I don't know either.
- 1:07:20Touch. I don't remember either but they
- 1:07:23went to high school down the road.
- 1:07:25I bet you played with him and just had to realize it just
- 1:07:28didn't follow his career path the rest of the way and it turns
- 1:07:31out he was a big leaguer. It's pretty cool.
- 1:07:33Whatever, That's all I got. That's my it's my fun statement
- 1:07:37of the day. Love that.
- 1:07:38Love that. All right.
- 1:07:41Well, again, apologize for the, the shake up in the schedule.
- 1:07:47We, we really try to keep it to Sunday, Wednesdays.
- 1:07:50But there was nothing to talk about when we sat down
